In this episode of Fashion Verdict with ZellSWAG, we sit down for a raw, stylish, culture-driven conversation about where streetwear stands today. And today we're talking about streetwear because everybody got a hoodie. Everybody got puff print. Everybody got a big logo. Everybody got a deep quote on the back talking about pain built me. Baby, pain built who? And the real question is, is streetwear still culture or is it oversaturated? Let's get into it. Because some of y'all got Canva, a cousin with a heat press, and a dream. And now suddenly everybody is a creative director. So today we're talking about the pros, the cons, the histories, the pioneers, the icons, the people that are still putting it on. So let's get into our fashion hot take of the week. Streetwear is not dead, but baby, it is overcrowded. Everybody got a brand now, and I love entrepreneurship. Sell the hoodie, get the money, build your dream. But everybody cannot be the next Supreme. Because why everybody got the same brand? Black hoodie, puff print, stacked sweatpants, chrome logo, a photo shoot, and an abandoned parking garage. Baby, I'm tired. I'm tired, I'm tired, I'm tired. Cheap quality with luxury prices. Social media has made copying so easy as being crazy. You see one thing on one post, you scroll down, you see the same outfit in a different color. I'm sick of that shit. And I'm tired of the fast fashion designers stealing from the smaller brands. Y'all gotta give it up. Nobody wants that same Supreme outfit and uh and material that you could have got from the St. Alley in LA. And hype culture is just not getting the same. I don't know if the resellers are hiking up the prices. I don't know if these designers are just trying to think that everybody is, you know, denim tears like what I got on. Yeah, I don't know what they think they are, but those prices are getting higher and higher for cheaper and cheaper shit. Originality really separates brands from looking like merch. Because I'm not gonna lie to you, some of y'all shit looking like y'all just got off a tour. Like it's like for a tour for the pizza cat dolls or something like that. Y'all gotta have some type of meaning behind your brand. This don't make a shirt because your homeboy got a hoodie, and a quote on the back of a hoodie don't make you deep. I'm sorry if I had to put it to you. If y'all call on the back of your hoodie, slap yourself in the face right now. And if your brand looks like five other brands on Instagram, baby, we got a problem. You know he had a nerve to step on. Oh, y'all know what that means. It's designer on track. Now, baby, we talk of streetwear. We can't talk streetwear without talking Supreme. Because once upon a time, Supreme was that girl. People was sleeping outside for days for box logo t-shirts, spending they rent money on their hoodies. Supreme had people acting like that. Red box logo came with health insurance. These are the questions I gotta ask the court today. Did Supreme fall off? Is Supreme still cool today? Did too many collabs water them down? Did hype culture help or hurt? Did street wear involve past Supreme? Let's be real. Supreme helped build the hype culture, the drops, the resale madness, the box logo obsession. And when Supreme linked with Louis Vuitton, baby, that was a culture reset. But let's talk about it. When was the last time somebody said, Oh my god, you got that Supreme on? Don't worry, I'll wait. My verdict, Supreme is not irrelevant, but also it's not untouchable anymore. The brand still matters historically, but the culture moved, boo. Streetwear got bigger. The kids have found new brands. And baby, hype don't last forever. Alright, y'all, it's time for swag on the scene. Do you feel that Supreme, the brand Supreme fell off?

Some people like it, some people don't, but like there's nothing in the world that don't have a fan.

For this segment, I want to give y'all some street wear one-on-one. Now, before we drag streetwear, we gotta put some respect on a few people's names. Because street wear is not just hoodies, it's not just logos, and it's not just sneakers. Street wear came from culture, surf, skate, hip-hop, Harlem, Japan, luxury remixing, youth rebellion, black culture, street culture, music, art, baby, street wear, the whole family tree. We gotta start off with Sissy. Because Sean Sissy was putting his signature on skateboards, on surfboards, and t-shirts before any of y'all even knew what a drop was. That California surf and skate energy helped create one of the earliest streetwear brands. Now, baby, y'all gonna have to put some respect on Dapper Dan. Because before luxury brands wanted black culture, black culture was already remixing luxury. Harlan, custom Gucci, custom Louis Vuitton, custom Pendy, the rappers, the hustlers, the celebrities, and the athletes, everybody went to Dapper Dan when they want to look expensive and feel untouchable. So we gotta put some respect on Dapper Dan because he definitely had the streets lit. Okay, now Supreme. Supreme took skate culture and turned it into a global streetwear brand. The stores, the drops, the attitude, the box logo. Baby Supreme made people treat that box logo team like it was concert tickets. So we gotta put some respect on Supreme. Now we gotta talk bait. Can't forget about bait. Nigo changed streetwear with camo shark hoodies. Bold graphics and that Japanese street style energy. And hip hop helped make bait global. So shout out to all those rappers, those strappers, and hustlers that really pushed Bape out. My one of my favorite people that I always just see all the time in Babe is Lil Wayne. So shout out to Lil Wayne and Babe because they still roll. And then there came Virgil. Virgil made streetwear luxury. Off-white changed the way that people looked at hoodies, sneakers, quotation marks, zip tees, and industrial belts. He made fashion intellectual, but still wearable. Virgil helped push wear into luxury houses, high fashion places. So without Virgil, we might not be having these big high fashion collabs with some of the street brands. Virgil is really the blueprint of streetwear. So we have to, if we want RIP to Virgil, we miss you. Okay, you guys, we're back for another culture check.

This time for culture check, we're talking about some of the black streetwear brands that you need to know. Some that we just need to give them their flowers. Oh, and the underwear, hold on. The underwear too. Denim tears. Denim tears is more than clothes. Denim tears is history, it's storytelling, it's black culture stitched into fashion. Jerry Lorenzo gave us elevated basics, relaxed silhouettes, natural tones, and that rich, quiet confidence. Very rich uncle. Very private airport. Very I don't check the price tag. So shout out to Jerry Lorenzo and um Fear of God. We love them. Gallery Department. Now let me tell y'all this. Gallery Department is a brand that I feel like that I turned a lot of people on to. People used to literally come up to me all the time and ask me what's gallery department my brand because I wear them so much. I used to get custom pieces that people never seen before. Then I start saying people do it. So we're gonna talk Gallery Department because that's one of my favorites. Gallery Department is that artistic street wear luxury movement, paint splatter, vintage energy, distress pieces, looking expensive and homeless at the same time. And somehow it all works. I love Gallery Department. They definitely got the hood on lock. See, that is the difference between a brand and a movement. The best street wear brands have identity, story, point of view, culture, not just a hoodie and a photo shoot. And that was a culture check. Alright, y'all, welcome back to another segment of Style Me Like Zausez y'all motherfuckers looking crazy out there. So I'm gonna teach y'all some tips just to take your outfit to the next level. Right here, we have a male model right here. He's a very nice looking male model, but it's like I like the shirt, we like the pants. The pants is by a black designer that he moved to moved from the US to Thailand to start his fashion career. And these are Japanese denim right here. But anyway, we ain't gonna get into all of that. But we like it, but it is can you spin for us? This is the look, not style. It's just like, okay, you look good, you look great, but give me something more. And then we got this look. We added the hat, a Yankees hat that compassment, like the pant stripe, the blue. I just feel like it looks really good together. We got we threw some glasses on on him. And like, I feel like he just looked way more polished, way more put together. He doesn't look like he just left an all-night Diddy party drinking all night. He looks like, yeah, he looks like a great Molo. He looks like he can snag a girl or a nigga. Or both of them. Who knows what he wants, but he looks good, he looks sad. I don't know.
