Jonah Runs And God Intervenes

a riveting story in the Bible about a man who was. His name was Jonah. God told him to go to Nineveh to tell them about the Lord, and he refused. So God sent a storm to the ship he had boarded. The men of the ship threw him overboard to appease God. Then God sent a fish to swallow Jonah, and then after Jonah repented and agreed to obey God, God made the fish vomit Jonah up onto the shore.

God’s Precise Control Of Creation

What a sight. Well today we look at the miraculously minute, detailed control God has over every single thing in all the world. Jonah 2, chapter ten says, Then the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah up onto the dry land. Experts estimate that there are thirty to forty trillion fish in the ocean alone and another ten to twenty trillion in freshwater rivers and lakes. I guess they didn't estimate how many are in fish tanks in our homes. It makes me laugh to imagine counting all the fish, and I'm glad they have other methods of estimating. So back to our story. While God was simultaneously working in every person's life around the world, God intervened in Jonah's life by hand selecting one large fish, maybe a whale. On the week in question, God picked out one lucky fish and told him to ignore his normal diet of krill or whatever he was going to ingest and to go for Jonah. Then three days later, God gave the fish a case of Jonah indigestion and out came Jonah onto the shore. There's much more to talk about in the story of Jonah, but think with me today about this one truth. God created and controls every molecule in all the world at all times. If God controlled one fish out of the trillions, what about your life is outside of his care and concern?

Stop Running And Turn Back

Now this can be good news or bad news, depending on our circumstances. If you're running from God or purposely seeking to live away from him, you need to know that you can never get away from him. And that's actually good because it means he loves you and he wants to draw you to himself. So stop running and turn

Hope For Those Who Follow God

back to him right now in humility, repentance, and submission. If, however, you're a person who does know God and you desire to follow him, know this. He not only sees your situation, but he has known about your situation from before time began, and he is actively working out his perfect will with precision

and care down to the minute detail. So now take a few minutes and tell God all about the things on your mind. Submit to him in anything where you've been running from him. Thank him that he's working in ways that you may never see. Rest in the all-encompassing control of our great God. That's a great truth for us today. I look forward to seeing you next time.
