Welcome And A Retirement Lesson
SPEAKER_00Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in the Word. I'm Ronnie Cooksie. I have a friend who is retiring this week from a computer company. He's worked for the same company for 30 years. Do you think as he neared retirement they wanted him to share a few things with some other colleagues before leaving his post? Some knowledge about the company, some skills, some knowledge about projects? Well, you bet they did. They absolutely did. This is how we approach all of life. Where there are ideas and wisdom and knowledge we want them to perpetuate, not to die off. The same is true in Scripture, and we pick
2 Timothy 2:2 Read Aloud
SPEAKER_00back up today with Second Timothy chapter two, verse two. Paul says to Timothy, The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. These things that Paul wanted Timothy to pass along were the truths of God's Word, and we have the Old and New Testament, God's Word completed for us, and these are the things, the doctrines of the faith, the ways of the Lord, that we're to pass on to others in this same way. So he says these things are to be passed along to other faithful men who will be able to teach
God’s Pattern Of Multiplication
SPEAKER_00others also. God is a God of multiplication. It's fascinating. We see five generations pictured in a way here, because Barnabas was instrumental in the discipleship and encouragement of Paul when Paul became a Christian. And then Paul is doing the same in the life of Timothy, and he's encouraging Timothy to pass these things to faithful men who will then teach other faithful men. So we see five generations. This is the way God works. It's a pattern we see all through creation, multiplication. In the plant life, the seed for the new crop is within the first crops. Animals, humans. Well, the same principle is true in God's church and with believers. He made us to be a part of the process of making and multiplying more believers, more disciples. The Great Commission tells us to go and make disciples. Starting with, yes, in the church, we want to multiply and produce more teachers and preachers. It's not good to have just one person who's the only
Why The Church Needs More Teachers
SPEAKER_00one who can do these things. We want to see it spread out. It increases the number of people we can reach with the life-giving truths of Christ. In church, discipling other believers, all of us can be
Simple Ways To Disciple Someone
SPEAKER_00a part of discipling other believers. You say, I don't know how to disciple. It's not complicated. Your pastor or your church leaders would be happy to give you a curriculum or a tool to use, but you don't even really have to have that. It's as simple as meeting with a new believer or another believer and reading the Bible together, showing them how you read the Bible, and letting the subjects of discussion come from within the reading, then showing them how you pray and showing them how you make certain decisions in your life. It's just one life rubbing off on another. There's also just interaction with other believers, sharing with others in your conversation the things that God is teaching you, and then allowing them to do the same. Texting a believer with an encouraging Bible verse or an encouraging thought or a prayer that you're praying for them. And then there's passing along biblical truths to your children and your grandchildren. You say, Me? Yes, you. Even if you're not a perfect teacher, in fact, I would say it's best if you're not, because your children, your grandchildren get to see what Christianity looks like Monday through Saturday in the home, in the lives of those whom I love.
Kids Grandkids And Social Media Witness
SPEAKER_00Even social media can be a place, if you're on social media to pass along the things of the Lord. I would say that if you mark yourself as someone who's passing along God's truths, be careful about the other things that you post. Make sure the messages agree with one another. Evangelism is certainly part of passing along the truths of the Lord and passing along the need to come to know Christ as Savior. Do me a favor, in your mind, find your name on God's family tree, that place where you became a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, if you have. What comes after your name? Do you see names of people whom you've told about Jesus? Names of people you've encouraged with God's Word, either formally through Bible studies or sermons, or just in conversations? Do you see the names of people that you've influenced to grow in the Lord? If you don't see any names, stop now and ask God how you might apply Second Timothy two in your life with the Lord, because he wrote it for all of us. And God wants
Your Name On God’s Family Tree
SPEAKER_00to use you in his multiplication process. Oh believer, let God encourage you. Don't listen to the devil as he says this is for others. Imagine the impact of all believers seeking to pass along the things that God is teaching us and to multiply and impact all those who come after us. Be encouraged. If you've become a Christian and God has left you here on this earth, he did so with a purpose in mind, and he has ways he wants to use you, and you're important in his kingdom. God bless you. I look forward to seeing you back here tomorrow.
