Welcome And A Quick Setup

SPEAKER_00

Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in the Word. I'm Ronnie Cooksie. Can I have

The Dessert Question We All Ask

SPEAKER_00

one? I remember when our eight children were all at home, and it would be time for something special like a dessert after dinner. And I would begin going from one child to the next, giving each child one piece of the dessert. There would always be that one kiddo who was two or three seats away who would blurt out, Can I have one? And I would think, have I ever given every one of your siblings something right in front of you and passed you by? Well, the truth be told, we are all like that, though we might not always give voice to our thoughts.

Israel’s Complaint In The Wilderness

SPEAKER_00

In Exodus chapter sixteen, verse two we read about Israel. The whole congregation of the sons of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. The sons of Israel said to them, Would that we had died by the Lord's hand in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat, when we ate bread to the full, for you have brought us out into the wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger. Wow, what short memories

Forgetting God’s Big Rescue

SPEAKER_00

we have. Here's Israel, they were slaves in Egypt. Cruel masters were the Egyptians, taskmasters, hard life. The Lord came in to rescue them. He sent Moses in and he used Moses, and by God's strength and power, he miraculously delivered them from the hand of the most powerful ruler and the most powerful, numerous army in the world at that time. God performed the miraculous ten plagues to convince Pharaoh to let them go. But then Pharaoh changed his mind, and God used that hardened heart of Pharaoh to pursue them to get glory for God. So they chased after Israel. They were trapped at the Red Sea, and God divided the Red Sea, and they marched across two, three million, we're not sure how many, a lot. They marched across on dry land, and then God caused the sea to come back together and drowned the entire Egyptian army. There's a great song of praise to God, and then right after that we pick up with Israel here, and now they're a little hungry, and they decide that God did all of that just to bring them out to the desert to kill them. Wow. And so they begin to complain. It was so great back in Egypt. We had everything, and now God's going to starve us

Manna From Heaven And Trust

SPEAKER_00

to death. Well, right after this complaint, this is where God does begin to send manna from heaven. Daily God drops food out of the sky for a few million people. And don't you bet God wished that they would have trusted him and he could have sent the manna without them questioning his faithfulness? I bet so.

The Heart Of Contentment

SPEAKER_00

What about you? How do you do regarding contentment? Do you always think that you wish you had things either the way they used to be or the way you think they will be, but never the way that they actually are? May God help us in this way. How great it is for God's people to be contented trusting in Him. I have a Navy friend who told me that there's a saying in the Navy that the two best duty stations are the station you were at before and the station you'll be at after, never the station you're currently assigned. We struggle with

Gratitude Habits That Reframe Life

SPEAKER_00

this. One way that you can grow in this is to thank God for the things He has already done. You might need to make a list. Make a list and take it to your prayer time of the things that you want to thank God for each and every day. In our family, there were times where we would play the thankful game, and we would go around, and each person would have to think of something or some things for which they were thankful. There's something about being grateful and thankful to God that will change our attitude and will give us encouragement and hope, and it's to God's praise as well.

Remembering The Cross And Closing

SPEAKER_00

So don't be like the Israelites who grumble about a God who has done everything in the world for them. Thank God that He has given Himself for you on the cross, He's provided every heartbeat, every meal you've eaten, and more and more and more than we could ever think to thank Him for. Well, God bless you today. I'll see you back here next time.
