Welcome To Five Minutes

SPEAKER_00

Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in the Word. I'm Ronnie Cooksie. When

A Navy Base Access Story

our family lived in Yokosuka, Japan, we loved to visit the U.S. naval base. However, after the 9-11 attacks, security became understandably dramatically increased at our U.S. bases around the world. Therefore, we were not able to enter at will. In order to enter the base, we had to leave our car outside the base, walk up to the visitor center, escorted by a member of the U.S. Navy, fill out the paperwork, show our ID, have our Navy friend show his ID or her ID, and then enter the base walking with or riding in the car of our Navy friend. We were not able to go in as we were. We were fine with that, of course, but it was not we who fulfilled the requirements, our Navy friends fulfilled the requirements. We were able to enter because we were with them. If we were in a car, we were able to enter because we were in the car with them. We

Romans 8:1 And No Condemnation

SPEAKER_00

see this same pattern at work here in Romans chapter eight, where it begins with in verse one, there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Now it begins with the word therefore, because at the end of chapter seven, and there were no chapters originally, Paul was bemoaning his sin, and he was frustrated that he had these sins that would show up in his life repeatedly. And so as we turn into chapter eight, Paul is rejoicing that because he is in Christ, he has come to know Christ as his Savior, the Spirit of the living God is inside him, then he is no longer condemned. We see this throughout

Growth Without Crushing Guilt

the scripture. The devil loves to condemn you. The devil wants to bring up everything you've ever done, and he wants to declare that you are therefore unworthy for God to love you, and that the cross is somehow not big enough to pay for your sin. Well, it's foolish and it's because he hates you and he wants you to be miserable. So you make sure you've come to know Christ, that you truly are in Christ, and then you can know that God no longer condemns you and you can stop listening to the devil. Well, does that mean that once you're a Christian, God doesn't really care what you do? No, not at all. God does care, he cares so much that he paid for it on the cross, and then it's for his glory and our good for us to seek to grow in him, to obey him more and more each day, even though we continue to fall. The prodigal son is a good example. He repented, he came home, he returned, and he was completely forgiven. In that initial conversation recorded for us, the Father didn't say one thing about what he had done. He was admitting that he had sinned against the Father and against God, and so he comes back and there are yet terrible consequences. The prodigal son wishes that he could go back and not do those things, but the condemnation is gone because of what the Lord had done to forgive

Caller ID For Condemnation

him. Caller ID has been a wonderful addition to our telephones. You can, for the most part, tell who's calling you. And I like that our phones now warn us spam alert and things like this, so that we can choose to not pick it up. Well, when the devil begins to condemn you and remind you of all that you've done, don't pick it up. Don't answer. Tell him to talk to God because God has forgiven you.

Law, Gospel, And The Spirit

SPEAKER_00

And he says that the law couldn't save us. You see, the law just prepares us for the gospel. The law reminds us that we're a sinner. The worst thing we can ever do is not think we need salvation in Christ. So the law prepares us, and what the law could not do, God did, sending his own son in the likeness of sinful flesh. And then it says the requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. It's not that we are doing it, it's not fulfilled by us, but rather in us, because who's in us? The Spirit of the Living

Steps When You Feel Condemned

SPEAKER_00

God. Are you feeling condemned today? Well make sure you've been born again, and then just proc keep proclaiming with your heart, even with your mouth, memorize some verses to claim that there's therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. No matter what you've done, what could you ever do that's too big for the cross of Christ to forgive? I am praising the Lord with you, and I'm rejoicing and declaring for you, if you've come to know Christ as your Savior, you are not condemned today. God loves you and He can never stop. So take it all to Him, cry out to Him, spill it all out to God, and He'll hear you and He'll comfort you with these words of Scripture.

Hope, Comfort, And Closing

SPEAKER_00

Well, I'll see you back next time as we pick back up here in Romans chapter eight.
