Welcome And A Lost Child Moment
SPEAKER_00Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in the Word. Those of you who are parents, have you ever had the experience of your child getting separated from you at the store? I'm talking about when they're on one aisle, one aisle away from you, and they went around the corner or you went around the corner and there was a second or two where you didn't come back and they didn't realize where you were. Well, it's enough to make a child cry, and it's natural, but it's fascinating that if they don't see you for just a moment, they can assume immediately that they'll never see you again. This happened to us with one of our children years ago, a very short separation, and in that short time our child had already told himself that if he couldn't find us, he would go to church the next day and he would look for us there. Well, it wasn't logical, but it was natural and understandable.
Romans 8 Promise Of Unbroken Love
SPEAKER_00In today's beautiful crescendo and finale in Romans chapter eight, God wants to remind us that if we know Christ as Savior, nothing can ever, ever separate
Why Separation From God Matters
SPEAKER_00us from His love. You know, hell is the ultimate example of being separated from God. It's not God's will for any of us. I don't believe it's why Jesus came to die on the cross for all the world and those who would place their faith in him. Now hell is a real place, a place of eternal suffering. But one piece of that is that it's separation from God. It's a big deal to be separated from him, and so it's a big deal for him to assure us that if we know Christ, we could never, ever be separated from
Suffering And Overwhelming Conquest
SPEAKER_00him. And so he gives us this in Romans chapter eight, verse thirty-five and following. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword? Just as it is written, for your sake, we are being put to death all day long. We are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. And certainly these first century Christians knew what it was like to be persecuted and even martyred for their faith. But Paul is urging them and urging us that no matter what comes in our life, to never have our first thought to be that God has somehow abandoned us, or that God doesn't care, or that God doesn't see what's happening in your life. He sees, he cares, and says in verse 37, in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through him who loved us. Tertullian
Martyrs And The Church Growing Stronger
SPEAKER_00said, The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church. Every time the devil tries to take away what belongs to God or to harm that which belongs to God, it only causes God and God's people to conquer even more. And we see this throughout history, how God has used what the devil means for evil for good. Polycarp was the famous bishop of Smyrna, and he refused to recant his faith, and so they gave him one more choice in front of a great crowd, and he said, Eighty and six years have I served him, and he has done me no wrong. How then can I blaspheme my king and my Savior? They tried to burn him, but it appeared to those who were watching like there was a mysterious, miraculous buffer around him. They couldn't burn him. God was with him in that moment, so they had to take his life another way, but it's a picture that God is not only not absent in the hard times, he is ever so close to us. And so Paul is giving example after example.
The List Of What Cannot Separate
SPEAKER_00He says in verse 38, for I'm convinced that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God. Oh, friend, there are so many times that we're tempted to think that God has forgotten us, but God says, I cannot leave you.
A Father’s Love Compared To God’s
SPEAKER_00When my children were younger, I would sometimes do a word game with them, and I would say, Does Daddy love you? And they would say yes. And I would say, What about on a rainy day? Does Daddy love you? Yes. What about when you're four years old? Yes. What about when you're ten years old? Does Daddy love you? Will he love you? Yes. What about when you're twenty years old? And on and on we would go just to remind them that Daddy would always love them. Well, folks, much better than the love of a human father is the unending, perfect love of God.
Turn To Christ And Final Blessing
SPEAKER_00And if you don't know him as Savior, please don't end this episode without turning to him in faith, asking him to forgive your sin, to come into your heart and live forever and ever. Because the last line of this wonderful Romans 8, where is this love of God found? In Christ Jesus, our Lord. Oh God loves you no matter what you're experiencing today. Turn to him and admit to him that you believe that and ask him to give you faith, to trust in him today, and to know that he cannot leave you and he will not leave you ever, while you're alive on this earth and for all of eternity. God bless you. Take a moment and read through if you want to the wonderful chapter eight of the book of Romans. You'll be blessed again by God's word. Hey, I look forward to seeing you here next time. Thanks, Mm.
