Security We All Want
SPEAKER_00Hello, welcome to Five Minutes in the Word. I'm Ronnie Cooksie. Security. It's a common word in advertisements, security systems for our home, security and retirement, financially, job security, and
Isaiah’s Picture Of Real Refuge
SPEAKER_00on and on. But I want you to know about the best security system available. In Isaiah chapter 33, verses 15 and 16, we're going to start with verse 16. This is the goal and the result. He will dwell in the heights, his refuge will be the impregnable rock, his bread will be given him, his water will be sure. What does that all add up to? Having your needs met, being taken care of. This is the security we want. Now, the reality is that God blesses each and every person, even by giving them another day. He sometimes blesses us in ways that's surprising when we don't feel close to him, and we know that we get to heaven by coming to know Christ and on and on. Nevertheless, throughout the scripture, we see these passages that encourage us to walk closely with God so that when we encounter issues and problems, they're problems that God wanted, not the problems brought on by God having to send consequences to bring us back to Him.
Right Walking And Quick Repentance
SPEAKER_00So, verse 15. How do we walk? How do we live our life in a way that will put us in the right position for God to bless us and take care of us and not have to discipline us? He begins with right walking. He who walks righteously. Psalm 111 we looked at how blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked. Where do you walk? The goal is that I could find you, you could find me at any hour of the day, and it not be embarrassing. God can help us with that. Now, does this mean we're going to be perfect on this side of heaven? No. But when we do find ourselves making the wrong choice, making a sinful choice, we immediately deal with it with God, making sure we know Him as Savior, and then keeping short accounts with God. If you miss a meal, you don't just give up, you keep on eating. And so we want to keep on pursuing this kind of relationship with the Lord where we're walking in a way that's pleasing to him. Proverbs 27 says, A righteous man who walks in his integrity, how blessed are his sons after him. We want what we say to be true in our inner life. There are two signs hanging on the door of a repair shop. One sign said, We can fix anything. Right next to it, the other sign said, Please knock on the door. The bell doesn't work. Well, thank you, readers digest for that story, but we
Right Talking And Clean Speech
SPEAKER_00don't want our life to be like that. Right walking, right talking, says he speaks with sincerity. And so we want to be those whose speech is also pleasing to God. Upright speech, plain, level, straight. Is the totality of what we say pleasing to God? Is it true? Is it appropriate? Can I set my child or my grandchild in front of you and not be concerned that they'll hear about all the sin that's happening around the world, defiling their conscience? Does our speech contain slander? Would we speak the same way about that person if they were in the room? Fill up your life with right living and speaking,
Rejecting Unjust Gain And Evil
SPEAKER_00pursuits him, but he goes on. There are things that he runs from. He rejects unjust gain, deceitful ways, wrongful advancing. Despising them. Jacob was always trying to get himself ahead through cheating. We want God's blessing. Proverbs 10 22 says, It's the blessing of the Lord that makes rich, and he adds no sorrow to it. Now we know God doesn't make us all rich, but your financial gain is a blessing from God if you do things God's way. He rejects bribes and other things. He shakes his hands so they hold no bribe. He stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed. I don't need to know. You don't need to know about every sinful thing that's ever happened in the world. I don't need to hear every slander, every rumor, all the harmful words. He shuts his eyes from looking at evil. Same thing. I don't need to see everything that's out there. There are things that are harmful for my spiritual life, to try to train my eyes to look away by God's grace and to focus more on what God wants to fill my heart rather than the ways of the world. And so these are these ways that we pursue God's ways so that we are more in the position to experience God's blessings. Yes, He blesses us all, but it's true scripturally that when you pursue God and you try to live a life that puts that which is pleasing to God into your heart, and you work by God's grace to keep out those things that are displeasing to the Lord and harmful to our spiritual life, you're
Secure Living And A Prayerful Pause
SPEAKER_00going to be able to live that secure life. And the problems that will come will be the ones that God chose, not the ones that are consequences for your sin that cause regret. Stop and spend a moment in prayer to God and let Him bring up anything that He wants you to address in your life. God bless you. See you back next time.
