Hi, I'm Bill and this is the Warrior Medic. I remember the exact moment the mask started to crack. I was sitting in a conference room. Senior leadership. The room full of people who believed I knew what I was doing. And in that moment I realized I had no idea if any of this was real. I've spent four decades proving I'm worthy of this position. And I still don't believe it. That moment in the conference room was the first time that I had admitted it. The mask was all that was holding me together. I was sitting across from people I'd worked with for years, smart people, people who respected me. And all I could think was if they really knew me, if they saw the fear underneath all of this, they'd know I don't belong here. That's when I realized something. I had a choice keep the mask or let it crack and see what was underneath. That was the exact moment that that mask began to crack. Sitting in that conference room full of people who believed I knew what I was doing, and sitting there with all my credentials, my titles, and years of achievement, and realizing I had no idea if it was real. I had spent decades proving I was worthy of that position. And I still didn't believe it, not for a moment. The people in that room respected me, trusted my judgment, and all I could think was if they really knew me, if they saw the fear, the boy underneath all of this, they'd know I don't belong here. That's when I had a choice, keep the mask on and keep performing, or let it crack and see what was underneath. I chose to let it crack. And that's when the real work started. The mask wasn't protecting me. It was suffocating me, and that mask, well, it's suffocating you too. There's so much you can do when you conquer the fear and let that little boy go.
