Tonight we will talk about how God gives us peace, restores our souls, and places us
where He has for a reason, mama.

Good evening, mamas, and welcome back to midlight, your light in the middle of the night. We have discussed a beautiful place in Scripture several times, and it's the one where God says that He is tender with those who care for young. That verse is found in Isaiah chapter 40 and verse eleven, which I think pairs beautifully with the psalm I want to share with you tonight, Mamas, because it talks about the things that God wants for us as our shepherd, and that is in regards to who we are because we are his. So here I'm gonna read you Psalm twenty three if you just want to listen. It is such a beautiful psalm. Psalm twenty three, The Lord the Shepherd of His People, a Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside the still waters, he restores my soul. He leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies, you anoint my head with oil, my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. And that is Psalm twenty three, Mamas. I paired those together because when you go and you read in Isaiah chapter forty, the Lord is comparing himself to the shepherd, and he is talking about taking care of his people and keeping them close by his side. Some versions even mention keeping them under the fold of his robe and how he gently leads those who are with young. The Lord is not only our shepherd as believers, but he is our shepherd for us as mamas as well. And I think we get an extra layer according to the Bible of God's tender care for us and how he cares and loves us so much and knows the deep things in our heart and the responsibilities that we carry as a mama, and he knows and he sees, and he is there for us in these moments. We are not alone, no matter what time the clock says, God is there. And this Psalm twenty three brings peace to my soul as a mama, because I see here that through what the Lord tells me in Psalm twenty three that I shall not be in want, He will take care of my needs. He makes me to lie down in green pastures, that's because he wants me to rest. He leads me beside the still waters in a special place that is calm and quiet, and he restores my soul. He is the only one who can do that. And he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. He shows me the right way to go. And it goes on throughout the psalm to just describe how God takes care of us and gives us rest, and he restores our soul. Have we ever thought about it like that as mamas, that he is our soul restorer? But he is. When we come to him, we can rest assured that he will meet us there and give us what I would call metaphorically, big long drink of water as mamas. What a beautiful place we have in the Lord to be the ones to tend to these little precious babies, and that God would pick us. Something I have recently been made aware of is that I have found my purpose in my family. I don't know what my purpose would have been otherwise because this is what the Lord saw fit to give me, to make me a mama, to have little ones who run to me when they get hurt or when they need a band-aid or when their heart is sad, or when they just have the funniest things to say to me, to make me laugh. I have found my purpose in this family. Have you found yours? I remember when my babies were tiny tiny and they would wrap their whole hand around my finger while I was feeding them. And I remember thinking, isn't that the greatest honor that I could ever be asked for? That a little one would find their safety and security in my arms and in my presence? And I just think it is the sweetest gift that God could give us as mamas that we could be a place of love and refuge and security for our little ones. And it's just true that it's an honor. Is it a lot of work? Yep. Is it not always easy? Mm-hmm. But is God with us? Yes. And did He give us this assignment because it was exactly His plan for our family? Yes. Mama, I wonder, did you find your purpose in your family too? The one you have right now that you are in charge of? I know that some of us had interesting pasts or families we came out of, but this is our opportunity to fulfill the purposes that God has for us as mamas over these children and in this family. What a beautiful place to write history and be a legacy lever with these precious little ones that we tend to on a daily basis. Mama, you are replaceable in other places in life, but you are not replaceable in your family. It is such a precious place and honor and a seat that God has given you to be the mama in this family. I know I feel that way too. So tonight as I read Psalm twenty three, I thought about how God gives us rest. He is there to restore us and he is our shepherd. He is tender with us. And guess what? I think we display those same characteristics to our little ones as we tend to them. What a beautiful opportunity to take the things that God does for us like this in Psalm twenty three, and then pour it out onto our families, our children and our babies, and the ones He saw fit to give us in our homes. We are so incredibly blessed, and God will be there for us to give us His peace, to restore our souls, to give us the rest that we need, and we can continue to serve this beautiful place that God has given us. Tonight, Mamas, I want to be reminded of this very thing that we were handpicked for this job, and it was no mistake, no accident, just purely God's doing. Tonight I want to leave you with a prayer, Mamas, and it comes from Numbers 6, 24 through 26. May the Lord bless you and keep you, make his face to shine upon you, be gracious unto you, and give you peace. Amen. Until next time, Mamas, continue to do the good work and take care.
