Tonight we will talk about trusting God in the waiting places of our lives. We will talk about how God’s timing is perfect for us, mamas.

Good evening, mamas, and welcome back to Midlight, your light in the middle of the night. Tonight I want to talk to you about Psalm 130 in verse 5 through 6, which is a concept of God being with us in the night hours and waiting on his timing and for the morning to come. And it goes like this, verse 5. I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I do hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning. Yes, more than those who watch for the morning. And this psalm is about a psalmist who is putting all of his hope into the Lord. It's a place of trust. It's a place of bearing his desires, his needs, his want for mercy from the Lord. It's all being laid out before him because he trusts that the Lord is with him and will hear him, and he's actively waiting. It also says, more than those who watch for the morning, because this is related to ancient watchmen who would sit on the wall and watch over the night hours and wait for the dawn to come to bring relief from their shift. And I think as mamas, we can so much identify with that exact concept when we have little ones and we are in the night hours season of motherhood, and we are doing what needs to be done in the middle of the night, and we are waiting for the relief that comes when the dawn comes. And I think this is such a special and kind of a private place to pour your heart out before the Lord in the middle of the night as you are tending to your babies and rocking them and just meeting their needs. I think this is such a tender and precious place to pour out your heart before the Lord and then wait on him for his timing. I always think to myself, when I was up in the middle of the night with my littlest ones, I would think, well, God, I have to be up anyway, so I might as well spend this time tending to this precious little one and talking to you. So I would encourage you that in your night seasons, as you wait for the dawn to come, and Mama, I promise it will come, that you would use your middle of the night time well, that you would use this time to bond with your baby, and you would use this time to bond yourself to the Lord, because He is with you and His help is there. I think one of the most beautiful displays of God's love has been in those times where I felt so alone, and there wasn't a human who could meet those needs in those spaces, but the Lord did, and He will do that for you too, Mama. I want to take you to another place in Scripture in Psalm 27, verses 13 through 14, and it says, I am certain that I will see the Lord's goodness in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord, be strong, and let your hearts be courageous. Wait for the Lord. I'm going to be honest with you right now. I am a horribly impatient woman. I do not like to wait. But in all my years the Lord has graciously continued the practice of discipline of waiting in my life. And I have learned that my timing is not the same as God's timing. And I've also learned that God's timing is actually perfect. He knows what we need and when we need it. He knows when we pray and we ask and we beg that sometimes we're not ready for what we're praying for, and other times our ideas and desires line up with God's desires for us, and the waiting is the same, and the patience is worth it, and God's timing lines up. But mamas, tonight I want you to rest in God's timing in your life. If there is something you're waiting for, if there is something you are longing for, and you feel like the timing is just off in your desire and this particular thing that you are waiting for, I would encourage you to do this very verse. I would encourage you to wait for the Lord, be strong, and let your heart be courageous. Wait for the Lord. And I love how it starts out with saying, I am certain that I will see the Lord's goodness in the land of the living. We know that God works all things together for our good, and He has a plan for us, and that He is with us in this beautiful life that we are living, and we will see God's goodness in the land. That is a promise of the Lord. So tonight, Mamas, I want to encourage you, if you find yourself in the waiting place, be patient, wait on the Lord, and do it actively. We don't just lay down and give up while we're waiting for something to happen. We bless God, we serve our families, and we move along as we wait for God's timing on the particular thing that we have laid at his feet. I think it's an interesting time to be talking about this because every year when I have a little one graduate college or high school or even preschool, I read them the book, Oh, the Places You'll Go by Dr. Seuss. And it's always interesting when we get to the page called The Waiting Place. And it talks about waiting for the snow to snow, waiting for the bus to go, waiting around for a break. There's just everybody just waiting. And I feel like all of us can identify with the waiting place in the Dr. Seuss's book, Oh, the places you'll go, because we've all been there. We know what the waiting place feels like. And I've learned something in my years here on earth. Even in my purse, I keep something fun to do while I'm in the waiting room. Whether I'm at the doctor's office or a restaurant, I always have something kind of intriguing and fun to do in my purse, such as a fun little book to read or little cards that are like bingo cards or I spy. And I have found that that makes the waiting so much easier when you have something enjoyable to do while you're waiting for your turn. So mamas, I encourage you tonight to trust in God's timing, to wait well, to be patient, and to find the joy in the waiting place because we can all relate to it. So tonight, mamas, if you have something heavy on your heart and you haven't seen it come to pass yet, I encourage you to give it to the Lord, like our psalmist, and that you would trust him for the answers in his timing. And Mama, know this, you're not alone. We have all been there, and some of us are there right now with you. Be encouraged that God's timing is absolutely perfect and he hears you and he knows what you need. Tonight, Mamas, I want to leave you with a blessing. May the Lord bless you and keep you, make his face to shine upon you, be gracious unto you, and give you peace. Amen. That is number six, twenty four through twenty six. Until next time, mamas, remember to watch for the dawn, to have courage, and put your trust in God's timing. Until next time, mamas, take care.
