James 2 challenges believers to examine whether their faith is genuine by looking at their actions. Written by Jesus' half-brother to persecuted early Christians, this passage addresses the problem of showing favoritism based on wealth or appearance. James argues that true faith naturally produces good works - not to earn salvation, but to demonstrate it. He uses examples like Abraham and Rahab to show how authentic faith requires action, not just intellectual belief. Even demons believe in God, but their belief doesn't save them. James concludes that faith without works is like a body without spirit - dead and lifeless.
