Birthdays look a little different once you're a mom.

This week we're talking about birthday plans that don't exactly go as planned, kids getting sick at the worst possible time, getting accidentally headbutted by your toddler, the shows we're secretly obsessed with, and the very glamorous reality of postpartum pelvic floors.

Kendall (00:00)
okay, before we get into anything, I have to t I have to tell you this. Not kid related. But yesterday I'm I think at OT with Owen and I get a notification or an email on my phone from my a new

Gmail that I had created. And it says we couldn't verify your age, so we've like locked down all of these things. Basically, you know, child proofing, I guess, or like kid proofing. And it said, All right, click here to verify your age. So I'm like, okay, I guess I'll have to like, I don't know, upload my ID or something. And Google gives me

Emily Gorrie (00:38)
Okay.

Kendall (00:52)
two options it says use your ID or take a selfie and so I took a selfie

I was so offended at how immediately Google was like, yeah, you're old. Like, yeah. Yeah, we don't we don't we don't think you're a child. You are old, ma'am. Like

Emily Gorrie (01:11)
gonna be the opposite.

You're

definitely not fourteen. Okay.

Kendall (01:19)
Exactly. I

was like, I guess I shouldn't be offended that I don't look like I'm under 18. But I definitely was like, rude, sir. Like

Emily Gorrie (01:30)
But also

like is the threshold eighteen? I think it's like fourteen.

Kendall (01:37)
I just assumed eighteen 'cause adult is eighteen, but

Emily Gorrie (01:37)
So like okay, that's

fair, that's fair. Okay, so like we're not winning any points this week.

Kendall (01:46)
⁓ I just think that it really underlines the comment that my niece made about the the bags under my eyes. So And here we are at 6.30.

Emily Gorrie (01:51)
Mm.

Yes. Well, mom yeah,

and the mom's watching. I mean, how do the bags look?

Okay, let's get into our weeks, shall we?

Kendall (02:34)
Well you had a big week. It was your birthday week. I wanna hear all about it.

Emily Gorrie (02:39)
⁓ it was the most classic you're a mom birthday week I have actually ever experienced. And I'm what five years into this? So let me fill you in. If you can't tell, I'm getting over a cold. Last week was brutal, and I don't get like hit too hard that many times a year. I probably get hit like twice a year really hard where it knocks me.

down for days. This was one of them. So it started like middle of last week, wasn't feeling great. Thursday rolled around, knocked on my booty for like two whole days, canceled everything, basically just did like mom life. I like literally just watched Henry on Thursday. He didn't go to school on Friday because turns out he was getting the cult that I had. He was not sleeping.

my god, you this, Charlie. He's so sleep sensitive. If he doesn't sleep, he's cranky. The whole thing, whole shebang. Saturday, he wakes up, my neck hurts. He wouldn't turn his head. I'm like, great. Turns out it's an ear infection. I've seen this before with him, where he's so sensitive to like sore throats or ear pain that he won't actually like move. So I ended up taking him into like the walk-in clinic. They turns out he has an ear infection. He proceeds to

vomit up all of the antibiotics that we've attempted to give him. We ended up like running around to get back there so they could prescribe us with a different antibiotic, which we can hide in grape juice. If anyone wants to know what it is, just DM me. I'm not gonna put it out here. ⁓ it's actually hidden by grape juice and I'm only whispering that because if he hears me, I don't want him to know what I'm doing because he doesn't know I'm giving it to him.

And it's the only way we've been able to keep it in him. So that was Saturday into Sunday. Sunday was my actual birthday. Still sick. Now let me tell you the fun part of all of this. Thursday, if that wasn't fun already. Thursday, I was laying on the couch down for the count. We did a whole bunch of TV that day. Super down for the count. I said, Henry, do you want to just come snuggle with mama on the couch? He said, yes.

Kendall (04:49)
I know, I'm like, okay.

Emily Gorrie (05:03)
Yes, I do. And I was like so excited, very ready for these. Like, cause you know him, when he gives you hugs and kisses, he's like in on the hugs and kisses. So he comes in, I open the blanket for him, he comes, rolls in, he whips his head back, bam, head butted me straight in the nose. When I tell you a crack, blood, searing pain through my entire head.

I was convinced Henry broke my nose right then and there. Like when you think, and this is kind of embarrassing, but I'm gonna just like and I was really trying to hold it in. I'm gonna share it with you anyway. When you think like your kids like wailing from pain or like, you know, they scraped a knee or something and they just cannot recover, that was me. I turned 36 on Sunday.

That was me. I and I was really trying to hold it together because I didn't want him to feel bad about it because it was so unintentional. But blood, pain cracked. I was like, holy it was awful. I ended up no, this was me and Henry. We were we were living our best life on Thursday. Immediately he got me the ice pack from the from the fridge, which was like very cute.

Kendall (06:12)
Well Setham.

Sweet boy.

Emily Gorrie (06:24)
Yes,

I was just seeing boy. So that was my Sunday. I ended up going into the urgent care on Monday because it was still bothering me. Like I it's a mirac It was actually just here in like the bridge was swollen. Like in this like card like I can't even touch this right now when I tell you. It tingles all the way down my nose. So I ended up getting x-rays done. It's not like there's no major fracture or broken bone, thank goodness, because

Kendall (06:31)
So your nose was like swollen? What was going on?

Like a hairline fracture.

Emily Gorrie (06:52)
there's a good there's a possible chance. They couldn't give me like, you know, the likelihood of it, but there's a good chance that it's either still just inflamed, which is why I'm feeling that, or like on this side, he just kind of like cracked a little piece of the cartilage or something over here. But like my sunglasses are these they have to be like pushed all the way in to my face. Because if they rest right here, I can't do it. So I ⁓ entered my 36th year with a illness, a kid with an ear infection

Not having slept more than like five hours a night cumulatively, and possibly a broken nose. So I'm really hoping there's only one place to go and it's up. ⁓ but overall it was it was fine. Seth did a lovely job trying to celebrate me that day. Not everybody was in a great mood, and we were just momming it. We were moming it that day.

Kendall (07:46)
Man.

⁓ gosh. What what a week. So what did what did Seth do? Because you don't like surprises. So like what did Seth do?

Emily Gorrie (07:50)
Yes.

I do not.

Well, he tried to get us out for breakfast to do like some fun things. The kids were just losing their minds, honestly. ⁓ so we just stayed home, which was okay. You know, he took them out to grab like dinner for us later that night. He we ended up getting he went to Seaside Market in Cardiff and he got like the tri-tip that they're so famous for and some like twice baked potatoes and corn on the cob. So it was like a really nice, like light.

grilling afternoon. ⁓ so I got to like lay on the couch for a little bit and watch ⁓ one episode of Sweet Magnolias, which I'm like low-key obsessed with, even though it's not low-key horrible. Like it's like it's one of those cheese on Netflix.

Kendall (08:42)
I have no idea what it is, so tell me.

I'm I I'm far too busy with Bravo to go to Netflix, to be honest.

Emily Gorrie (08:51)
That's fair. I

do not participate in the Bravo anymore. My heart just can't handle it. So I've gone to like horribly predictably scripted Netflix teen dramas. Yeah. It's like a teen drama, net like hallmark vibe. Horribly scripted. We are telling you. We are not showing you. We use like conversation to like set set scenes. It's so bad.

Kendall (09:04)
Is it like a Hallmark movie? ⁓ okay. Yeah.

Emily Gorrie (09:20)
But it's so good. It's like exactly what my heart and my nervous system needs because everything has like a positive, loving, heartwarming spin to it.

Kendall (09:31)
And it's tied up with a bow and it's and it's perfect. I get it.

Emily Gorrie (09:33)
And it's tied up with a bow. It's all I can handle. Yes. So that's I got

to relax a little bit with that. So that looks good.

Kendall (09:43)
I love that. That sounds

Emily Gorrie (09:45)
I think

you would hate it, but

Kendall (09:48)
think I would hate it. I probably it probably wouldn't be my first choice. But like I no, no no no no. But like I can I can get down with like what was that Mindy Kayling show? ⁓

Emily Gorrie (09:50)
Mm.

That's fair. That's fair. Wouldn't torture you to sit there and watch it, but you wouldn't choose it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

the one that was out like a handful of years ago.

Kendall (10:13)
Uh-huh. Never have I ever, maybe? I think that's what it was called. Yeah, I watched that. That's like adjacent, right? I thought so. Honestly, it's like and there are like four seasons or something of it. Like I think it was good.

Emily Gorrie (10:20)
the teen drama. Yes. I never watched that. Was it gun? Should it be my next one?

Okay.

Okay, maybe that I'll put that on my list next. It's like I'm either watching teen dramas that get wrapped up with a bow or I'm watching Law and Order. There's no in between.

Kendall (10:41)
Or law and order.

Yeah.

I get that.

Emily Gorrie (10:49)
I'm not sure how.

Kendall (10:51)
You know, the amount of time I I think especially okay. Here's the thing. I think especially as moms of young kids, the amount of time that we get to watch something that we j just us wants to watch. We don't have to like think about the kids or think about our partners. Like, I think that that time.

Emily Gorrie (11:18)
Yeah.

Kendall (11:20)
You should watch whatever you want to watch. Like I I I just I'm and maybe it's because I relax through reality TV, but I don't feel like there should be any judgment about like the caliber of content or like entertainment that you're watching because you get so little time for

Emily Gorrie (11:24)
Yes.

Agreed.

Yes. ⁓ my gosh, that's so true.

Kendall (11:49)
yourself.

So you should watch whatever the h hell you want to watch.

Emily Gorrie (11:56)
Tell me what it is that you're watching right now. Which is the Bravo show that you gravitate towards? Do you watch like, are you the mom who's like all caught up and you watch like every live episode that airs, like of like every like series on Bravo? Or do you have like certain ones that you gravitate towards and you're just like catching up? Or do you re-watch? That's another question.

Kendall (12:18)
I mean like have I have I

have never had time for a rewatch in years. ⁓ if I'm like on a plane and the like built in screen has episodes that I've seen, like maybe I'll rewatch them, but like never have time for a rewatch myself. ⁓ I've never like live watched a

Emily Gorrie (12:23)
Okay. ⁓

Yeah.

Kendall (12:45)
T V show. I mean, you know, like I love F one. I haven't watched F one in three years because

Emily Gorrie (12:53)
Right.

Kendall (12:53)
I don't have time to wake up and watch a race at 6 a.m. Because I have two little people who won't let me watch a race at 6 a.m., which is always so funny to me because your husband is the person who texts me about F1 and is like, did you see the race? And I was like, No, Seth, I have not seen the race, and I will not see the race, even though I would love to see the race. Like

Emily Gorrie (13:04)
Right, right.

Do you know

what I saw on Instagram that really, really resonated with me? And I I'm gonna try and find it. I can't remember who posted it if it was like something I just found on my like, you know, scroll feed or if it was like actually someone I follow, but I'll I'll dig into it. But it was like, welcome to dad iPad season. And it's like all these dads just walking around with their phones because the World Cup is on, and it's like every soccer game for like random countries that

You know, I don't know how if you're invested in that country. I guess you are, like, you know, or is it just the fact that soccer gets to be on and you have like an excuse to walk around with your phone? But it was like she was recording like her husband or you know, the dad of her kids or whatever, and they're like boarding a plane and he just has his phone. He's just staring at his phone. And it's so true because that is Seth. That has been Seth for the last week.

Kendall (13:56)
Ha ha ha

Yeah.

I like it is

I know. Well, the funny thing about your husband, which I can say because I have known him for

Fifteen years i and and and I love him. I know is he that man will watch any sport. Like literally curling, golf, tennis, honestly, bocce ball. If bocce ball was on the TV, I guarantee you your husband would be watching it.

Emily Gorrie (14:30)
Yeah, can you believe that? That's crazy.

god, curling, obsessed with curling.

Soccer.

Yes, agreed.

Agreed.

Kendall (14:56)
Now in stark contrast, my husband could not care less about sports.

Emily Gorrie (15:08)
No into the World Cup. No interest.

Kendall (15:10)
I think

I would be more interested in watching the World Cup than Pierre is. I like I actually I can bandwagon the World Cup, but I also like, I don't know if you remember ⁓ in college, I was quite the soccer fan in college, mostly for the soccer team.

Emily Gorrie (15:19)
Sure.

Vaguely, yes.

Yes.

Kendall (15:38)
which was full of very fit, very attractive, mostly foreign men.

Emily Gorrie (15:45)
Yes.

Yes,

yes.

Kendall (15:52)
So like I can get into the World Cup is the T like is the TLDR of it. I can get into the World Cup.

Emily Gorrie (15:54)
Totally. I honestly feel like

the only reason why in past years I have been invested in a sports team usually has started because there is a man on that team that is quite good looking. And I'm invested in

Kendall (16:12)
I mean that's the entertainment.

Emily Gorrie (16:14)
And I am invested in his success, that man right there. Not I don't really and then maybe I get into like the team in the long run because like, you know, I've been watching it all the time and I'm like, I want them to win because he wins. And then, you know, we see more of him. Like, there's a there's a starting point here with most things.

Kendall (16:19)
Yes.

I could not agree more. It's like, you know, you gotta get bought in at some level. And no shame. So I actually like, I think we will watch the World Cup, but France plays for the first time today. and you know what's funny is like

Emily Gorrie (16:41)
Yes. No shame. Mm-mm.

⁓ okay.

Kendall (17:02)
you know, like North America is hosting the World Cup, right?

Emily Gorrie (17:05)
Yeah.

Kendall (17:08)
That's so weird to me that it's like not it's not even it's not a single place, not even a single country. It's North America. Like cause I looked up tickets to the World Cup because I initially thought, like I I I saw somebody a mom post that it was at they had tickets to Levi Stadium, which is here in the Bay Area, and I was like, ⁓

Emily Gorrie (17:10)
Ha ha ha.

Yeah.

Okay.

Kendall (17:38)
Well, France is playing, like, maybe that would be fun. Like, maybe we should go. I looked up the World Cup schedule and even like went as far as looking at tickets, and then saw it was in Philadelphia. I was like, ⁓ okay, well, guess that's not happening. And then I was like looking at the schedule and I was like, Toronto, Mexico City. I was like

Emily Gorrie (17:57)
Not going there.

Yeah. Yeah.

Kendall (18:05)
I guess,

in my opinion, maybe it's like you go one way or the other, right? Like maybe it's like you either do commit to just one city and spend all the millions of dollars on the infrastructure or whatever, but maybe there's something nice about it being truly a World Cup. I mean, at this point, what's stopping us from having a game in

Emily Gorrie (18:28)
Yeah.

Kendall (18:34)
in Peru, having a game in in Australia. Like let's let's make it a World Cup. Like

Emily Gorrie (18:40)
In time.

I guess. But it takes you twenty four hours to get to Australia. So maybe they just like assumed that like it would limit the people. I don't know. Totally. Yes. That's fair. That's fair. Yeah. That's fair.

Kendall (18:48)
Okay, well maybe for example, but it's six hours from it's six hours from MetLife to France. So like have have

a have a match it in England. I don't know. but I just thought it was so funny because I was like, okay. But we'll probably get into the World Cup a little bit. To answer your question, what am I watching on Bravo? Because I'm sure there are other people who love Bravo listening. Cause

Emily Gorrie (19:03)
I know. Well

Okay.

Yes, yes, yes.

Kendall (19:17)
I'm not alone, there's a whole Bravo verse. ⁓

Emily Gorrie (19:21)
They have their own channel. It's wild. On TV.

Kendall (19:25)
It's not wild. It's it makes perfect sense.

Emily Gorrie (19:27)
It's w

I just mean the scale of it exists.

Kendall (19:32)
I think if you think that

them having their own channel is wild, the fact that there's a Bravo con will blow your mind. ⁓ there's an Emily, there's an entire there's an entire conference. I have not been to it. But if you have, if you have, convince me to go in the comments.

Emily Gorrie (19:43)
I did know about that.

think where has it been? I think it's been

has it been in San Diego? I think it I think it may have been. I do follow some, what are they called? Bravo Leberdies on Instagram. ⁓ so I'm not like totally out of date. Like I watched all of Vanderpump rolls until it got wild. Like bad wild. And then I did watch through that. I did watch through that. Yeah.

Kendall (19:58)
think it may have been

Bravo Liberties.

Yeah. Scandival Scandal of it all?

Emily Gorrie (20:22)
⁓ that was like kind of the extent. And then I think COVID hit and I was just you've lost me. My nervous system was shot. Okay, so what are you watching?

Kendall (20:29)
Yeah. So

what am I watching?

I if I have like a moment, first up on my deck is usually no, I guess no pun intended, is below deck. So ⁓ below deck mad just started airing. I am in the middle of episode two right now. Cause how how would I ever watch a full episode? That's a great question. so I I love a below deck.

Emily Gorrie (20:45)
Yeah.

Okay.

No. Yeah, no.

Kendall (21:05)
I have I am up to date on Southern Hospitality. I watched all of that season. I watched all of Southern Charm. I I have watched all of this season Summerhouse, which has been have you are you not are you not up on the drama?

Emily Gorrie (21:20)
I've been following the drama. No,

I've been following the drama. I haven't watched the series since probably season five.

Kendall (21:32)
Okay, well, you're in good company because Amanda wouldn't even watch the last three episodes. And I think collectively we all think that's ridiculous because she has wronged people and probably should have watched the episodes. But I'm fully invested in the summerhouse drama. I I think it's getting a little stale at this point, to be honest. The drama of summer the summer house stuff. Like

Emily Gorrie (21:37)

Yeah.

Well that's why they made a new series, didn't they make In the City?

Kendall (22:01)
I think they started making that before this drama.

Emily Gorrie (22:06)
but I just mean like this the that whole crew is starting to get stale.

Kendall (22:10)
the formula.

Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ I am watching in the city, but to be honest, it it hasn't riveted me yet. next up we have the Rory ⁓ reunion.

Emily Gorrie (22:19)
Hm, fair.

Don't wait. ⁓ yes, I got you. Yes.

Kendall (22:28)
Real Housewives of Rhode Island,

which is basically just Real Housewives of New Jersey.

Emily Gorrie (22:40)
So good. Okay. So good.

Kendall (22:43)
And like as somebody who has family

in Rhode Island, I don't think they would

quote that show as like an accurate representation completely, maybe of like a subset of Rhode Island. ⁓ but I I have watched that. So the TLDR is like I watch a lot on Bravo when I can, which is usually like if I'm doing a mindless task at work, I'll like throw it on my phone as I'm in front of my computer working.

Emily Gorrie (22:55)
Ha.

⁓ yeah.

That's funny.

Yeah.

Okay.

Kendall (23:20)
That's about the time that I get to watch Bravo. Or if it's trash night and Pierre has to like break down a bunch of boxes, I get like twenty minutes to watch T V.

Emily Gorrie (23:31)
When you said trash night, I actually thought you meant like trash TV night and you got to pick what was on the TV. Not actually trash night.

Kendall (23:38)
⁓ first of all, how dare you how dare

you how dare you conflate Bravo with Trash TV? How dare you? How dare you?

Emily Gorrie (23:52)
just love me, but I actually thought that's what you meant. I I had it that you were equating it to trash night. Okay, well, agree to disagree.

Kendall (23:54)
I do.

No.

Yeah, that's

fine. You're watching Hallmark movies, so ⁓

Emily Gorrie (24:08)
Also

could be equivalent with trash. So I get it. You know, there's no judgment, there's none of that. I mean, the writing in these shows that I watch, horrible. I mean, we're not talking like Pulitzer Prize winning anything over here. Okay, it's okay. It's okay. The writing's just not good. But I like it because it's like it's not hiding anything, it's telling you on the nose what it needs you to know to get through this episode. I'm

Kendall (24:12)
Fair, fair. At least you can own it.

Yeah.

That's that's fair.

Emily Gorrie (24:37)
I love that for me.

Kendall (24:40)
I love that for you too. How is so you were able to have your birthday dinner with your girlfriend before all of this this horrible sickness started?

Emily Gorrie (24:41)
Right?

Yes.

Tuesday was like the last day

I had last week of normalcy, I will say. And yes, we got dinner that night. It was so nice just to like, we got dinner and then we were like, we don't really want to go home yet. And she's like, I have to hit the grocery store. You wanna come? I was like, okay. So we like walked through the grocery store together. We picked up a couple things for lunch the next day. We just like didn't, we didn't want to like.

end it. And what was nice is the restaurant was like in a big center that also had the grocery store. So we could just like walk our way over there. but I am I'm grateful for friendships like that these days because it's like we just didn't want to go home yet. I didn't want to sit in my car and scroll on my phone and you know we could just continue on and and do some things we still needed to get done.

Kendall (25:44)
I like that.

Emily Gorrie (25:46)
Yeah, it was so nice. I I went I also had a dermatology appointment yesterday trying to get a baseline for myself now that I'm, you know, aging.

Kendall (25:56)
You

had a dermatology appointment when you have a broken nose. That feels bold.

Emily Gorrie (26:01)
⁓ he did not need it was just a baseline and he didn't have to like take anything off or anything. He didn't like touch my nose. I warned him. I said, please don't touch my nose. ⁓ but my point of sharing this was I brought a book with me to read while I was there because I don't want to scroll on my phone. I don't like how it makes me feel in my body. I'm trying to like lower my cortisol levels at all times throughout the day. So I brought a book. So I'm waiting for him to come.

Kendall (26:08)
Okay.

Emily Gorrie (26:30)
into the room, the doctor, and he walks in and he's like, Whoa. I was like, Whoa, hi. Like never met you before. And he's like, That's so rare. I was like, what? And now I'm like sitting here with my

Kendall (26:43)
You're like something

on my face is is rare. ⁓

Emily Gorrie (26:47)
I was like,

I was also, let me just I was in the gown already to do like a full, you know, skin check. I'm sitting with a book and I'm sitting cross-legged. No, I'm not like, I'm like on the like the gown's like I there's nothing to like see, but I'm like sitting cross-legged. And so I didn't know what he was talking about. And he's like, the book. I was like, ⁓ yes, I'm reading a book. He's like, no, like a paper book. I haven't seen a paper book in I was like, really? Sorry, I feel I feel for you.

I know people that still read paper books. Do you?

Kendall (27:20)
Yeah, a hundred percent. I was just having a conversation. I was just having a conversation yesterday about how the county where I live

Emily Gorrie (27:21)
Okay, so it's just this man. I don't know.

Kendall (27:35)
The libraries are bumping. Like the libraries are so well funded and just have so much programming and everything. We're like I was just having a conversation with somebody yesterday about it. So yes, I do see people read paper books.

Emily Gorrie (27:37)
I love that.

Mm. I love that.

Yeah, so he was quite surprised, but I was reading a paper book. My Kindle had died and I don't know where the charger is and I also need to renew my library card to like overall I've just been like using paper books as my ⁓ outlet.

Kendall (28:09)
And there

is motherhood. Like

Emily Gorrie (28:12)
And you

think I live eight minutes from the library. I could just pop in there and get my library card renewed so I could start using like the Libby app again and rent, you know, rent these books. If anyone doesn't know about Libby, you should. L-I-B-B-Y, you can basically check out books from your library virtually on your Kindle or your like e-reader app. But I need a new library card. It feels like every

Kendall (28:36)
Well you might as well

just wait until you wanna get one for Henry and then you can both go get one.

Emily Gorrie (28:41)
Yeah, so now I'm just getting I'm actually like buying books, but I'm getting them secondhand, like off of like, you know, thriftbooks.com or like there's a couple of them ⁓ that are reputable. And you just have to wait like a week for them to get shipped to you. Gosh, the patience.

Kendall (29:01)
Have you ever like bopped

around to a like a free little library by you? Are there any in your neighborhood?

Emily Gorrie (29:08)
You know what, I there are none in my neighborhood. There is one like up the way, but it feels just as intentional of having to get to the library.

And

Kendall (29:20)
It

might not when you have when you're when Olivia's at that school and you're doing drop off. Maybe you should start one Emma.

Emily Gorrie (29:25)
Totally. Right. So I feel like

Okay,

Kendall (29:30)
I've thought about it, ⁓ 'cause there's like a whole program, right? Like you just like they provide the infrastructure. They're very cute. We have a couple down the road from us, but our I can't do anything until our construction is done because nobody Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. ⁓ but we also live on like the side our street doesn't have a crosswalk on our stride our side of the street.

Emily Gorrie (29:34)
Yeah. And they're so cute.

Would you put it in the front of your house? Yeah. Yeah.

⁓ sure,

yeah.

Kendall (29:59)
So that's probably for like our next house 'cause I don't think anybody's gonna like cross the street just to get a book. But nor is that necess but it's not necessarily like safe either. Like we're at a corner, so

Emily Gorrie (30:04)
Hm, fair enough.

They might

gosh. Is it pretty

active on that corner? Like a lot of cars come through?

Kendall (30:20)
This

yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. It's it's a pretty busy corner. ⁓ and sometimes not everybody stops at the stop sign, so or like fully stops. So yeah. I know. Well, I got I think I would too. I was I mean it's been I I have a

Emily Gorrie (30:22)

Course. Yeah, they roll right through. ⁓ I didn't realize that. That would be so cute though, if you could do that. I think you'd love that.

Kendall (30:45)
bag of books to donate in my trunk for like the past week and a half. So but I've also been sick. ⁓ I'm going on ten days of this sickness. And it like got better because there were two days like a a week and change ago where I was like I had to take Dayquil just to like function, which I don't usually like to take Dayquil at all.

Emily Gorrie (31:11)
Yeah.

Kendall (31:15)
I just like could not function. And then ⁓ it like got better and then it's gotten worse. ⁓ but apparently there's just like this viral respiratory thing going like the cough I have is abysmal. And ⁓ there's just just this like viral respiratory thing that's been going around for

Emily Gorrie (31:17)
Yeah.

Yeah.

Kendall (31:40)
a while that I I guess you're like sick for three weeks, which is really just fun. Whole family has it.

Emily Gorrie (31:47)
Okay, we'll keep

⁓ goodness. Don't you love that? You're like

Kendall (31:51)
And

in the vein of being very ⁓ honest, ⁓ it's been really fun as someone who's had a baby in the past two years ⁓ to have a respiratory illness where I cough intensely all the time throughout the day because I keep peeing myself a little bit. And

I like can't even articulate if you've never experienced it, which I think most women who have had children have experienced it, but if you've never experienced it, there is just like no like you can't control it. It is humiliating, even though you're the only one aware of it, it is humiliating in it is just so unpleasant.

Emily Gorrie (32:25)
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah.

Kendall (32:49)
And not that like I have a like I went to pelvic floor therapy after I had my daughter and

Emily Gorrie (32:49)
It has

Kendall (32:59)
have like worked on my pelvic floor. It's clearly not great because or good enough. But it's not bad usually. But it's just been horrible.

Emily Gorrie (33:10)
I know. That

is, it's one of the most uncomfortable feelings. It happens to me when I sneeze. If I sneeze more than twice, it will happen because it's like I've just like I'm yeah, it's just like weakening with every sneeze. ⁓ I have not, I'm gonna knock on wood here. I

Kendall (33:22)
'Cause you're out of control of it.

Emily Gorrie (33:34)
Have not had like enough of like a coughing fit for that. But I'm sure if I did, that would happen. and I also went to pelvic floor therapy post-Henry. I actually went when I was pregnant with Henry and because I was having like a lot of problems, ⁓ pain. So I went then, I went after. I think it's just one of those things where like

Kendall (33:44)

wow.

Emily Gorrie (34:00)
Now that I'm two and a half years postpartum with Henry, it might be time to go back and like address what hasn't like settled back in, you know, because like things were still shrinking, things were still, you know, ⁓ realigning. You know, it might be time to like s adjust where they've aligned, you know, again. ⁓ I don't know.

Kendall (34:20)
Yeah, yeah. Isn't that an interesting

experience though? Pelvic like thank God that there are pelvic floor therapists, but like quite an interesting experience. ⁓ intimate is what I would describe it as. ⁓

Emily Gorrie (34:25)
Yes.

Ha ha ha.

Yeah, that's fair. That's

fair. I mean it's it should be for everyone, but yes, you have to get over that like little hump.

Kendall (34:41)
Yeah.

Someone having

presence inside of you. ⁓ I don't know how else to say it. How better to say it.

Emily Gorrie (34:53)
Ha ha ha.

I'm not sure everyone needs that. It could just be like certain.

Kendall (35:03)
You're saying that that that woman wasn't even a doctor, is what you're telling me.

Emily Gorrie (35:08)
Definitely not telling you that because that would be horrible. I'm definitely not telling you that. ⁓ Kettle.

⁓ definitely not telling you that. I also am just saying, like I think there is a ⁓ scale of needs when you go into pelvic floor therapy. So perhaps not everyone. So don't be scared. Go to pelvic floor therapy. I know, I know.

Kendall (35:27)
Yes. Heard, heard.

But they that's how they check well, but that's how they check you

initially. Like ⁓ Yes. There's nothing there's nothing to be afraid of. It's good. It should be for everybody. Should also be included for everybody, but that's a different conversation. Yeah, so we had our ⁓

Emily Gorrie (35:37)
But please go, please go to pelvic for therapy.

Yes.

Agreed.

Kendall (35:58)
anniversary in this past week and it was really lovely. Like I felt

Emily Gorrie (35:59)
Yes, yes, yes. Yes.

Didn't you get a massage?

Did you end up getting a massage?

Kendall (36:13)
Yes, I did without my husband wasn't included in the spa day. So I went I went to the spa with five of my friends, ⁓ who most of them are like one's on sabbatical, one's on pregnancy leave. Three of them don't work.

Emily Gorrie (36:13)
no. ⁓

Yeah, sure.

Kendall (36:42)
One I guess took the day off. So that's six. But I went to the spa with six of my friends and just had the literal best day. Like we each of us kind of got treatments at different times, but the spa that we went to is ⁓ I'll give it a plug, Stanley Ranch in Napa.

Emily Gorrie (36:47)
Okay.

I love that.

Kendall (37:07)
It's at the like the very bottom of Napa. So it took me like thirty-five minutes to get there. And it is such a beautiful property. The spa is incredible. And you get to when you get a treatment, you get to like have access to they have a pool just for the spa. And there's like this whole, they call it spring house, but there's this whole like

Emily Gorrie (37:14)
That's great.

Kendall (37:37)
building that has a sauna with the most beautiful view. First of all, have you ever seen a sauna that has like glass? Okay. Literally the most beautiful view you've ever seen. Giant sauna. A steam room, a Himalayan salt room. they that's like really fun. And then they have this salt water pool and you get to hang out by the pool. So we hung out by the pool

Emily Gorrie (37:44)
You know? Amazing.

Kendall (38:06)
until I think I left at 245. ⁓ so we just hung out by the pool. They have like bento boxes that you can order. We ordered mocktails. It was great. did that and then our

Emily Gorrie (38:11)
Yeah. Nice.

Yama.

Kendall (38:29)
caregiver stayed with the kid or picked Owen up from school because it was the last week of school, brought brought Charlie, picked Owen up from school. And so we were planning to go to there's this restaurant in San Francisco in Glen Park called La Cigale, which is ⁓ the French word for cicada, which is like the

Emily Gorrie (38:35)
Yeah.

Kendall (38:55)
It's like this, I always say it's the sound of summer. Like in the south of France, in summer, you just like there's something very like meaningful, I guess, like nostalgic about the like tssst of the cicadas. And like literally you open your door and that's all you hear. And

Emily Gorrie (38:58)
Yeah, yes. You've said that to me, mm-hmm.

Yeah. Yeah.

Kendall (39:23)
I think I've mentioned this to you. Even in Marseille, in the airport, the like announcement bell is a recording of cicadas. Like that's how ubiquitous this is. ⁓ and so, anyways, it's this southern French restaurant that's only has I think like 14 seats.

Emily Gorrie (39:30)
Yeah.

Yeah, yeah. I love it.

Mm-hmm.

Kendall (39:46)
And

we've been wanting to try it and wanting to go. And so we were like, okay, perfect. But they don't take reservations. So at 4:30, they open their wait list because they open at five. And if you're in in person, you put your name on the wait list and you're like the at four o'clock, I guess they open the virtual wait list. But if you're in person, you get priority over the virtual wait list.

Emily Gorrie (39:52)
Mm.

Yeah.

Priority.

Kendall (40:14)
And so, anyways, we were like, okay, well, great. Like, Patty's going to get the kids. We we have this opportunity to actually go and be in the city at 4 30. That's like incredible. And it's our anniversary. And so, anyways, long story short, ⁓ we're going, we're driving there, we're getting gas.

Emily Gorrie (40:22)
Yeah.

Yeah.

Kendall (40:37)
It turns four o'clock and I go on the website to put our name in on the virtual wait list because we're gonna get there a little after four thirty.

They have a private event. They're closed.

I was like, what are the chances? Like, literally, if this is not a sign that I am overscheduled, like that I didn't even know that they were having a private event. But like, I'm so overloaded and so overbooked that like we are on the way. I was like, well, thank gosh I actually looked because we would have been in Glen Park.

Emily Gorrie (41:05)
Ugh.

Yeah.

my gosh.

Right, at four thirty trying to get on a wait list for something that you couldn't do. ⁓ my gosh.

Kendall (41:25)
At four thirty.

Exactly. So I'm like, I told Pierre,

I was like, drive slow. And so we're driving into the city and I'm like looking up, okay, like, where can we get a reserve? And the good news is like it's a Wednesday at 5 p.m. Most people don't want to eat at 5 p.m. So I was like, okay, where can we get a reservation? And we ended up going to ⁓ this incredible place called Robin and we did an omakase.

Emily Gorrie (41:41)
Right, right.

Amazing. Great pivot.

Kendall (41:58)
And I don't think we'd actually

I don't think we'd done an omakause probably in at least ten years. And it was so much fun. Like both of us, we sat at the sushi bar, the like yeah, like the head chef owner is who like took care of us. We were there for two hours. It was it was impeccable and like

Emily Gorrie (42:05)
Yeah. Yep.

that. Ugh, the best experience. Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah.

Kendall (42:28)
Just everybody. Yeah. It ended up being a really good pivot. We went to a wine bar first. Like, I just think we ha we were able to, ⁓ thanks to couples therapy, like I just think we're able to be having more honest conversations now of like

Emily Gorrie (42:28)
Okay, good pivot.

I love that.

Yeah.

Kendall (42:52)
Year nine was hard. Like year nine was a really hard year for us. And I think we're both really hopeful that year ten is a better year. But year nine year nine was hard.

Emily Gorrie (42:54)
Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah.

Kendall (43:07)
but I'll share with all the listeners too, is like when we first started couples therapy, our first session, like get to know you session with our couple therapist, she basically was like, wow, okay. So you guys have just kind of had like stressful event after stressful event after stressful event.

Emily Gorrie (43:09)
Huh.

Kendall (43:29)
For the past

basically eight years or actually pretty much since we got married. So the past like ten years. We were like

Emily Gorrie (43:40)
Yeah.

Kendall (43:44)
⁓ yeah. Like we just didn't think of them as like kind of curveball or like stressful event after like we're like, yeah, I guess we have done a lot in 10 years. And yeah, I guess it has kind of been stressful. Like there's not been a year where there wasn't like a big stressful moment, right? Like we, you know.

Emily Gorrie (43:44)
Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Thing to yeah. Yeah, to navigate. Mm-hmm.

Yeah.

Kendall (44:14)
We've gotten married, we've started jobs, we've had layoffs, we've had parents be sick, we had COVID, we got stuck in Guatemala, we've had like ⁓ we went through a whole like infertility journey. We've had a we've had two babies, we've bought a house, like pretty much all of the stressful thing. Like we've had loss of parents, you know, like all of the stressful things.

Emily Gorrie (44:23)
Yeah, that was wild. Yeah.

Yes. Yeah.

Yes. Yeah.

Kendall (44:43)
У вів

maybe not all of them. There that's I'm I'm jinxing myself there. ⁓ but we've you know, we've gone through a lot of big stressful things in ten years So anyways.

Emily Gorrie (45:01)
let's pull up our voice note submission from one of our lovely listeners and let's get it.

Kendall (46:17)
⁓ my gosh.

Emily Gorrie (46:22)
First of all, I just want to thank her for sharing that voice note because that is absolutely one that you and I would have sent to one another. So thank you for sharing that with us. My whole body feels for her. I want to know what she did.

Kendall (46:42)
I wanna know what she did too. My like heart rate is elevated right now.

Emily Gorrie (46:45)
Ha ha

Kendall (46:48)
At this story.

Emily Gorrie (46:51)
For me.

Kendall (46:51)
I can just

like picture I my god I just picture it. ⁓ god. Yes, yes, yes, yes.

Emily Gorrie (46:54)
Thank God she had hardwood. I really I was with her on that. I was my immediate

thought was, do you have garbage? Like that would have been horrible, horrendous. I totally feel her on the it's not a well-formed poop at that point. Like it's just like particles disintegrating in the water. motherhood is not for the week. And it always seems to happen when.

Kendall (47:13)
Yeah, it's gross. It's nasty.

Emily Gorrie (47:23)
Like the other parent is not around? Why?

Kendall (47:26)
It's gone. Always. Always.

How would you have handled that situation?

Emily Gorrie (47:35)
I would have cried.

Kendall (47:36)
Ha ha ha.

Emily Gorrie (47:40)
Cried. And then I would have gotten myself together. I don't know, washcloth maybe? Like maybe you like get a good washcloth. At least you like wipe them down to an extent, right? The kid.

Kendall (47:52)
Yeah, I mean the ideal situation is if you have a second bathroom, just throw in the shower or the tub. I think yeah, like my priority would be kid.

Emily Gorrie (47:57)
Yeah, maybe stick him in the shower.

Kendall (48:05)
Floor bath. Yeah. But like

Emily Gorrie (48:07)
Tub. Yeah. Tub you can come to later.

It's con it's contained.

Kendall (48:12)
Yeah, I'd put the I'd do honestly I'd probably do the tub after they're asleep.

Emily Gorrie (48:16)

Kendall (48:17)
my gosh, this

is such a classic mom story. So thank you. Thank you, Anna, for sending it in.

Emily Gorrie (48:25)
We appreciate you for being vulnerable and sharing it with us. And if anyone listening has any of their own like that, we'd love to hear them. Please share them. Remind us that we are not alone in these experiences. And until then, we'll be back next week.
