Wait...Same Podcast
Welcome to Wait...Same — the podcast equivalent of a voice memo rant between best friends who love their kids deeply… and also hide in the pantry for five minutes of peace.
Hosts Kendall Gavaret and Emily Gorrie talk about the stuff moms are already thinking but not always saying out loud: the overstimulation, the guilt, the tiny resentments, the hilarious chaos, the identity shifts, the “is it just me?” moments, and the weirdly emotional breakdowns over snack cups.
This isn’t a parenting advice podcast.
It’s a “wait…same” podcast.
Honest conversations, relatable spirals, hot takes from tired moms, and the kind of validation that makes you text your friend immediately after listening.

The Mystery of the Missing Farfalle
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Have you ever spent days looking for one tiny toy while convincing yourself you're definitely losing your mind?
...same.
This week we're talking about disappearing toy pieces, standing-room-only sports bars in your 30s, trying new hobbies (hello, herb garden), why getting yourself ready somehow always comes last, and the strange confidence that your toddler absolutely did swallow that tiny Lego piece.
Plus, we listen to another anonymous listener submission that somehow turns into a full breakfast strategy for moms everywhere.
If you've ever wondered where all the toy pieces go...we're still looking too.
Key Takeaways
- Motherhood has a way of making the smallest inconveniences feel disproportionately personal (looking at you, missing toy pieces).
- Moms almost always prioritize everyone else's needs before getting themselves ready—which is usually why we're late.
- Sometimes saying yes to something fun (even if it feels very "twenties") could be exactly what you need.
- Lowering the bar doesn't mean lowering your standards—it often means finding systems that actually work for your family.
- Some of the best parenting hacks come from other moms, not parenting books.

Kendall (00:01)
Right.
Emily Gorrie (00:02)
Hi. Good morning. Afternoon. Yeah. What time is it?
Kendall (00:04)
Good afternoon. ⁓ it is three PM. ⁓
Emily Gorrie (00:13)
Okay. Not 6 a.m. baby. I'm actually feeling pretty good. So I can't be too upset. I've got my tea. Thank you. I have my tea. I'm doing a like a sweet basil. It's supposed to be like a nice caffeine-free energy boost.
Kendall (00:15)
Which means it's bright and early for you.
You look really good.
I like it.
Emily Gorrie (00:38)
I'll hit coffee
later. We're just starting a little gentler this morning.
Kendall (00:44)
I just had my afternoon decaf espresso. ⁓ so I'm right there with you.
Emily Gorrie (00:51)
Nice.
I love it. I actually had full caffeinated espresso at four PM yesterday.
And I was concerned. No, I actually was so tired that I conked up. I did ⁓ gardening yesterday. So I was outside and I had Henry with me. So like if you can imagine taking Henry to Home Depot, it was very funny. So I was very tired already. Like, let's just say a gentleman had to help me to my car. There was ⁓
Kendall (01:00)
How were you up all night?
Emily Gorrie (01:29)
soil falling out of my cart on the way in the parking lot. So I was like, this is how this is going to. So I was already sweating, worked out a ton yesterday.
Kendall (01:38)
And yet you still took the
open soil home.
Emily Gorrie (01:43)
It was just tiny, like a tiny, it was just Joel. It was more for a dramatic effect. But it like had fallen out of my cart and a man had to like pick it up for me so cars didn't run over it as I'm like dangling Henry under his arms in the parking lot.
It was great. We did a lot yesterday.
Kendall (02:00)
I mean I was gonna say she has a hobby
now.
Emily Gorrie (02:04)
I do
Woohoo! I have a hobby. ⁓ it's growing herbs from seeds. So it just started yesterday, and I'll let you know how it goes.
Kendall (02:17)
She's a garden girly.
Emily Gorrie (02:20)
I'm feeling inspired. I am.
Kendall (02:24)
I mean, I feel like we've actually talked about it on quite a number of these ⁓ episodes so far, but I fully support it. I think that's a great hobby for you.
Emily Gorrie (02:35)
Thank you. I was feeling really inspired by that like how to trim basil you sent me. Cause I have a couple of ⁓ like basil pots. One did not do well, but it was before you sent me that Instagram. So I'm trying it out on the second one. But we go through so much basil because I make a lot of pesto and my kids will eat it. So it feels like a nice alternative to like butter and cheese, because they won't eat red sauce. So
Kendall (02:43)
Mm-hmm.
Emily Gorrie (03:06)
I go through basil a lot. I'm like, we're gonna try and grow many bunches of this. So we will see. I don't know. I don't know.
Kendall (03:13)
It'll
be great.
Emily Gorrie (03:17)
It's gonna be great. Sound a little bit more enthusiastic for me, Kendall. Thank you.
Kendall (03:22)
⁓ I'm sorry. It will be great. You will have extremely
herbaceous herbs. And you know what? Like I told you, when you are ready, watch Little Garden Aves videos and learn how to make your own tea pre-coffee of your own herbs. You can make your own mint tea, Emily.
Emily Gorrie (03:31)
Yes, yes I will.
Yeah.
All right, let's talk about something a little bit happier today. It's Friday.
Kendall (04:24)
It is. It's Friday. Tomorrow's a holiday.
Emily Gorrie (04:30)
Tomorrow was a holiday. Should I be more excited about this? That's what Seth said to me yesterday. He's like, It's the 250th anniversary of America. Should we be like more excited about this? And I'm like,
Kendall (04:44)
You know I get that feeling.
Emily Gorrie (04:45)
Yeah,
I guess I sho I'm excited.
Kendall (04:49)
Yeah, I feel like there's a lot going on around that. ⁓
Emily Gorrie (04:57)
Yes.
Kendall (05:01)
I'm not even in the country right now. So I'm I don't think that I'm a great example of like we should be more excited about that. ⁓ but it is a big deal. Like I think that that's great.
Emily Gorrie (05:13)
I just yeah.
I know, I thought it was an interesting comment. Like, how would you like me to show up, sir?
Kendall (05:22)
Well what are you guys gonna do?
Emily Gorrie (05:22)
I'm gonna,
well, we're spending time with like the people we love, you know? Like we have some playdate scheduled today. We are doing the beach this afternoon, like ⁓ tomorrow we have like a afternoon party, we're gonna go see fireworks. Like I feel like that's celebratory. Do I have like decorations on my house? No.
Kendall (05:50)
I mean, seeing fireworks is celebratory.
Emily Gorrie (05:51)
Do have like, I have a flag?
Right? I know. I think what Seth meant was like, it's such a big number that, like, is, you know, should we be doing something more? And isn't that the question of motherhood? Should I be doing more? And I just kind of was like, no, I don't think so. I'm not sure I should do more today. Should I be more excited? Maybe. my god, okay.
Kendall (06:06)
Yeah.
The answer is no.
Emily Gorrie (06:20)
Really fast and then we can get into like some legit topics. But I went to a bar on Wednesday for the US World Cup game. Trust me, I know. I don't I felt like I was in my twenties. No, we Seth got a sitter so we could go to a bar and watch the World Cup game. When I tell you.
Kendall (06:22)
No, tell me.
I have so many questions. Where were your children? Were your children with you?
What?
Emily Gorrie (06:47)
Yeah, and I had three drinks, which I never do.
And when I tell you I was bored, let me tell you I was bored. I was like standing because you know we did not like plan ahead, which is fine, not a big deal. We're still we're in the bar standing. I feel like I was 22 again. I'm like, okay. There's people like clearly been at the bar since early afternoon. It was a five o'clock game. I'm like, so it's like, what are you wearing? I'm like, this gray sweatshirt.
leggings and sneakers. He's like, You have nothing, red, white, and blue. I was like, No. It was a US game. It was US ⁓ I already don't even remember who they played. Bosnia.
Kendall (07:29)
Was it so it was a US game? Okay.
Okay.
Emily Gorrie (07:40)
So we're in the bar, I'm like not decked out at all in attire that it was deemed appropriate. The guys in front of us have already been there. They turn around, they look at me, they're like, you need glitter. I'm like, do I need glitter? So they have like these like, have you ever seen the face stick glitters? They look like sunscreen, just like rolls on your cheeks. So I got glittered. I'm like, okay, there's too much of this going on.
had three drinks, they win. Sorry, spoiler, I think people should know that by now. They win. This whole bar is like rupturing in excitement. Like when I say it felt like the world was shaking, the world was shaking to me. And just for anybody, it was probably the three drinks. But like just for anyone who like hasn't seen me in person, like I'm five foot one and change.
Kendall (08:26)
those the three drinks.
Ha ha ha
Emily Gorrie (08:40)
So like there's all these men like jumping up and down. I'm like, I'm so small. Do you see me down here? Like, don't hit me with like an elbow. And Seth looks at me, he's screaming. He's like, could you incite something a little bit more than woo? Cause that was my reaction when everybody was like surrounding me going crazy.
Kendall (09:02)
mean in your defense it's not even like a big game. Like it was the first round.
Emily Gorrie (09:07)
I mean
they had to win. They had to win. We couldn't like tie or like ⁓
Kendall (09:12)
But it's
it's is isn't it only the round of sixteen now? Like there's still a far way to go until a final.
Emily Gorrie (09:17)
Whenever this is n is this
Is the round of sixteen where like you lose you're done? I don't know. Okay. Yeah, you lose, you're done.
Kendall (09:26)
Yeah, I think now it's now it's like a proper bracket.
Yeah.
Emily Gorrie (09:33)
Anyway, this is what I did on Wednesday. Tell me why.
Kendall (09:34)
I'm really impressed with you.
Because ⁓ you did it, because you showed up. Because honestly, I all of that does sound like you're in your twenties in a way that I never want to be again. Like the idea of standing in a bar watching a sports thing of any kind, like I'm having flashbacks to literally doing that in my twenties.
Emily Gorrie (09:44)
I did.
Yeah.
Kendall (10:09)
And I I admire that you did it. Like that you let go, you showed up and you like had fun.
Emily Gorrie (10:10)
Yeah.
Yes, yes, I did. And thank you. ⁓ you know what? That is really appreciated because
Kendall (10:23)
I'm proud of you.
Emily Gorrie (10:31)
There's still a part of me that's like, should I have been more excited about it? But we had fun. Let me t I had fun. We did it. I had already been to Pilates and gone for like a networking walk that afternoon. So like I had worked out twice already that day. And now I'm standing for like two and a half hours on like three drinks with no food in my body. And I'm like, this really feels like I'm 22 again.
Like I don't know, like no sneakers. Sneakers. So totally different. gosh. I was like, we're going to a soccer game in a bar. I'm wearing sneakers and the clothes that I worked out in.
Kendall (11:00)
Were you wearing heels?
thank God.
Okay, good.
Emily Gorrie (11:16)
I did take a shower after Pilates. So like the heart like the more sweatier of the two I had like already showered, but I like was still post working out. So
Kendall (11:25)
Honestly was not a concern for me. Not
a concern.
Emily Gorrie (11:32)
So I I honestly feel like that was the best way I could show up and I did it. And yes, I am also proud.
Because Seth and I got to do something fun also without the kids. And we missed bedtime. And we got one of our favorite burgers. I ate the bun. I just did it. And I actually felt fine. And I had stopped drinking by like 7 30. So I felt fine the next day, which honestly was kind of a miracle. Cause I don't drink anymore. So to have like three drinks in general is risky.
Kendall (11:44)
Yeah, I s I love
I mean, you might have two hobbies now.
Emily Gorrie (12:11)
But
Drinking?
Kendall (12:16)
Well, I was gonna say like more like sports bar viewership, but like she might have two hobbies now. Who who knew?
Emily Gorrie (12:25)
I really hope I don't pick up sports bar viewership.
Kendall (12:30)
You know, I was like so excited to
be here during the World Cup. We were here
Emily Gorrie (12:41)
Yes.
Kendall (12:45)
What it happens every four years, right? So I'm gonna butcher when this was. I'm not great at math. ⁓ it was twenty ⁓ no, because I had ⁓ I was about to have a baby in summer of twenty twenty two. 2018, that was
Emily Gorrie (12:48)
Yeah.
Twenty twenty two.
Kendall (13:07)
it. We were here in 2018 during the World Cup.
Emily Gorrie (13:11)
⁓ okay.
Kendall (13:15)
And and I think maybe in no 2014, we wouldn't have been in France. So 2018, ⁓ we were in France for the World Cup and it was just like electric. It was so much fun. And and so I was really kind of like excited to be here for the World Cup and like France historically in the past maybe.
Emily Gorrie (13:31)
yeah.
Kendall (13:43)
three or four. ⁓ somebody who knows better is welcome to correct me. But like the past three or four World Cups has done pretty well. ⁓
Emily Gorrie (13:53)
Seth keeps saying to me that France is predicted to do really well this year.
Kendall (14:01)
The French national team is really great and they have been for years and like
Emily Gorrie (14:05)
Well, he he also
said to me, he said that some stat like eight percent of all players who are playing in the World Cup are French.
They just play for other teams.
Kendall (14:19)
That doesn't actually surprise me.
Emily Gorrie (14:21)
Me either. Right. So I guess like
so that's kind of cool. I mean, there's like such a strong like thread of soccer running through France that I imagine it feels Okay, well.
Kendall (14:33)
We call it football? No, I'm joking.
I'm totally joking.
Emily Gorrie (14:40)
This could be why I don't think this is in my future. I'm like, cool, yo, do you.
Kendall (14:40)
⁓
but so the last French game was
Tuesday, I think, and but it was eleven PM France time.
Emily Gorrie (15:00)
Don't know.
Mm, yeah.
Kendall (15:07)
So
like I'm sure people were at a bar or like were watching it, but I'm certainly not going to be going somewhere at eleven PM. And then the next round yeah, exactly. And then the next round is also an eleven PM kickoff.
Emily Gorrie (15:15)
Right, or even being up to watch it.
I imagine like even as the rounds continue, it will just ki be horrible timing for whichever
Kendall (15:36)
It will be, but that's what's so
Emily Gorrie (15:40)
I don't know.
Kendall (15:41)
That's just what's so crazy to me, is that like it feels so
Like a problem that could have been fixed. Do you know what I mean? Like you don't have to solve for all well, you don't have to solve for all it's the same thing that they do for Formula One. You don't have to solve for all time zones, but you solve for where the majority of your viewership is, right? So if the majority of the c teams that are playing or are predicted Yeah, you would
Emily Gorrie (15:57)
Yes, but how?
so like it should adjust as the rounds go on, 'cause less teams are playing, in theory.
Kendall (16:20)
And like maybe you do them on the West Coast time zone instead of on the I sorry, I said West Coast. I meant East Coast time zone ⁓ instead of the West Coast. Like that's what they do, for instance, like Formula One, the Las Vegas race is late at night because that is early morning for
Emily Gorrie (16:22)
Yeah.
Mm.
Kendall (16:48)
Europe, which is traditionally one of the bigger viewership markets.
Emily Gorrie (16:51)
Mm.
That makes sense.
Kendall (16:56)
⁓ so yeah, I mean again, I don't know
Emily Gorrie (16:58)
So now that we've made suggestions
for FIFA, hope you're listening, FIFA. Okay.
Kendall (17:04)
Hope you're listening, FIFA. Actually, like kinda
hope you aren't listening because not the best morals. Not that everyone listening has to have good morals, but yeah. FIFA.
Emily Gorrie (17:13)
FIFA, you mean? Or ours. Yeah.
I've heard there's a little corruption there. So just a little. Yeah.
Kendall (17:22)
I mean they've made many documentaries on it, so
I feel like once you're corrupt enough that they're making documentaries of your corruption, that's probably a not a great sign.
Emily Gorrie (17:30)
A sign. Yeah,
yeah. ⁓ well, maybe that will be my next rabbit hole watching all the documentaries on FIFA because I'm like a soccer person now. So football, football person now.
Kendall (17:37)
Well
Football. ⁓ I mean I guess I guess that n is the next plan. yeah, you've got plus I mean hydration in its in and of itself is its own hobby and you've got that one unlocked.
Emily Gorrie (17:48)
Feels right.
It's my new hobby. I got a lot of hobbies now. I went from zero to three.
And all the new supplements I'm taking to like heal this gut feels like a whole full-time job. So it's a lot. It is like in my brain. I'm like, okay, I gotta take these at this time, these at this time, but these at that time, then I gotta like dose myself up. Yes. Am I eating protein? Or am I eating like, is there a fat and it's like a whole thing. Like, god. I'm getting a little bit better at it as like
Kendall (18:11)
'Cause it probably is, honestly. Yeah.
Well and then like these have to go with food. These don't have to go with food. Yeah.
Emily Gorrie (18:33)
the days and weeks are going. It feels less of a chore, but like for the first couple of days I was like, okay, what am I supposed to take right now? It's hard. The brains.
Kendall (18:44)
It is hard.
⁓ well so we got some feedback from our first few episodes that we kind of just dropped into us being us and people didn't know ha how we know each other, which fair
Emily Gorrie (18:53)
Okay.
Ha ha Fair.
We definitely did
not give any insight into that. Except maybe we went to college together. We talked a little bit about that, but that was about it.
Kendall (19:13)
No, we didn't.
We did mention that. ⁓ and so I mean, I think rather than just doing
like a boring voiceover of seventeen years of friendship, that it would be more fun if we do a little best friend lore part of the next couple episodes.
Emily Gorrie (19:41)
Okay.
Alright, let's do it. I'm excited. I think I'm curious to see what it uncovers. Cause this is I haven't prepped for this, so we'll see.
Kendall (19:47)
Okay.
I mean
I haven't
I haven't prepped per se, but it is funny because I think next week's prompt, I have something like so vivid in mind, and I'm kind of curious when it's when next week's prompt comes up if you will know immediately what I'm thinking about, because I think you will.
Emily Gorrie (20:17)
Wait.
Okay.
And are you gonna just give me the question in real time and see what happens or sh
Kendall (20:25)
Yeah, I'm about to
I'm about to tell you right now, then we're gonna both answer it.
This first one is like very
Emily Gorrie (20:31)
Okay. I'm a little nervous.
Kendall (20:37)
basic easing easing ya in. You don't have to think about it. Okay. So who is more likely to be late or say that they're already on their way when they're like still in pajamas?
Emily Gorrie (20:40)
Okay. All right. Let's do it. Okay. Okay. Let's do it.
Me.
Are we already in disagreement?
Kendall (21:11)
No, I see, I think that that is true, but I think you know what's interesting? I think that that is true, but since having kids, I feel like I am also more likely to be late. Because if it's just me, you know I am on time all I am on time all the time, and it is kind of
Emily Gorrie (21:28)
Hmm.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Kendall (21:37)
Painfully punctual. But once I had kids, now I'm late all the time and I hate it.
Emily Gorrie (21:49)
Well yeah, 'cause you have to wrangle three other personalities to get out the door.
Kendall (21:57)
Literally Emily, a week ago we had a play date. It was intended to just be Charlie and I.
Emily Gorrie (22:08)
Okay.
Kendall (22:09)
We're supposed to be at my friend's house. First of all, morning play dates, so love, so recommend. We we had four little kids and four moms meeting at my friend's house. It was supposed to be at 8 30.
Emily Gorrie (22:15)
Totally. Agreed.
Okay. Okay.
Kendall (22:27)
Eight eight ten. First of all, my husband sleeps until eight AM that day. Eight ten, Charlie and I are both dressed, ready to go.
Emily Gorrie (22:39)
Yeah, love it.
Kendall (22:43)
Then Owen, my older one,
says I want to go.
And hi my husband, Pierre, was like, well like what if you and I go to the boulangerie or like go do this or go do that? And he was like, No, I wanna I wanna go to Titi's house.
And I was like, okay, well sure. Like, you know, and then he obviously started crying. And so he ended up coming. We didn't leave our house until eight forty five.
Emily Gorrie (23:13)
Come on.
Yeah, but
Yeah. You were that was set up for delay from the get go.
Kendall (23:29)
But I was ready at eight ten. Like I it was so the two people who were supposed to be there were ready because that was what was in my span of control.
Emily Gorrie (23:31)
I know. You were ready. You were ready.
To tell you
Yes. Well I have to tell you, I feel like
I have evolved in my lateness since becoming a mom, but not entirely. Like if I recall, okay, so we lived with each other senior year of college. And I'm like picturing like getting ready, going to the bar, like you were always ready. And I was always like last minute, hang on, I just need to do like one more thing, or like one more thing, or like I was downstairs, like in the thick of everything. And then like last minute was like, ⁓ shoot, I gotta go get ready.
Kendall (23:59)
Yes.
Emily Gorrie (24:15)
Right. And then I'd like run upstairs and then be I have five minutes. Okay, I'm gonna do my hair. I'm gonna do my makeup. I'm gonna put my clothes on. And it's like I always thought I needed less time than I really did to get myself ready. And I still do that, like to this day. I'll be like, okay, the kids' stuff is packed, the food is made, the backpack's done, they're dressed, they're ready. ⁓ we have to leave in five minutes. I'm still in my pajamas. shoot. So I'm still last minute.
I'm the reason why. So if I can get myself, which is actually why I've started when I wake up in the morning, I feel like my best self if I can wash my face, brush my teeth, and change my clothes, whether that's like workout leggings, which is what it usually is in like a big t-shirt, at least then I can run out of the house not looking like I'm still in my pajamas. So I'm still like that. I am likely to be late because of me.
Because I like forgot to like get myself ready first.
Kendall (25:17)
See, like I hear hear you, understand, and I'm gonna offer you a reframe, which is it's not because of you. You're taking care of literally everyone else. Cause that is my reality as well, is that like every I've usual morning, we're going to school. I wake up, make sure people have breakfast, make the coffee, make the lunch, get them dressed.
Emily Gorrie (25:29)
Sure.
Yeah.
Yes.
Kendall (25:47)
write the note for for our caretaker like have everything done and then it's
Two minutes past when ideally I would like to be have left. And I'm I have to get dressed. Now
Emily Gorrie (26:04)
Yeah.
Yeah. Yes.
Yeah.
Kendall (26:11)
I won't
even open up the Pandora's box of
How different partners approach that situation because I think
Emily Gorrie (26:24)
But also like
they have to do less. Granted, Pierre showers like every morning. So like let me riff I feel like Seth does less like than me to get
Kendall (26:35)
I don't get to shower
because I'm taking care of everyone else.
Emily Gorrie (26:39)
Right.
Right. Right. But I'm saying like for like it feels like our realities are a little bit different. Like Pierre has to have a shower. It wakes him up. He gets to do his thing. He sleeps in. Like, and you're like really on that morning shift. Like that is like your thing. For me, it feels like also like the realities are different in partners, also, but like like Seth.
Kendall (26:49)
Yeah. Yeah.
Emily Gorrie (27:04)
It's also way easier for Seth to get ready. Like he literally like hops in the shower, takes a quick body shower, like does not have to like like maybe he throws a little soap on his body, but he also like showers multiple times a day. So like, how much cleaning do you really need to do? And then, you know, like he throws on shorts and a t shirt and like is ready.
Kendall (27:23)
Yeah.
See my feedback on your well yeah. Thirty minutes is j is generous, yeah. I if I'm washing my hair, we are in for at least an hour. If I'm gonna dry it.
Emily Gorrie (27:27)
My if I washed my hair, it would be game over. I'd need a whole 30 minutes. At least.
Yeah. If
I wanna look like a functioning human, yeah, agreed.
Kendall (27:47)
See, but that was
my that was gonna be my point of what you said about when we were in college, is that like, yes, you were late, later, but you looked the best always.
Emily Gorrie (27:52)
Hmm.
We're gonna have to pull up pictures because I don't recall it being that way. But thank you. I'll it.
Kendall (28:10)
I do. I
always remember like I don't know. I've always thought you were just like the most beautiful person. You've always like, yeah, you always were like put together and like
Emily Gorrie (28:25)
It was never a haphazard. Like it was always like an intentional thing for me. Like if I was gonna go out, like I needed to like feel confident in what I was wearing. And like I did a little bit of something for myself that day. Which is usually like makeup. Yeah.
Kendall (28:27)
Exactly.
Right. But like your hair was always done or you had makeup
on. And like the rest of us were just in those like bandage skirts with a going out top.
Emily Gorrie (28:47)
Ha ha.
those are the days. Those are the days, man. It was so simple. Could you
Kendall (28:56)
Right? Isn't that the
the truth? Like ⁓ just so simple. But that's kind of what's
Emily Gorrie (29:04)
Remember that
bright yellow top that I had we I wore it to Vegas for your twenty first birthday?
Kendall (29:12)
Do I remember? Yeah, of course I do. It's in that Florence, it's in that Florence picture that we posted.
Emily Gorrie (29:16)
I wish I still had it.
yes, I just like loved that color.
Kendall (29:24)
Or is that a yellow different
yellow top?
That might be a different one. That might be more mustard yellow than neon yellow.
Emily Gorrie (29:36)
We're gonna have to go back and look. Did I have more than one yellow top?
Kendall (29:37)
I don't remember. That twenty first birthday in Vegas
was a little bit of a blur.
Emily Gorrie (29:43)
I had some very solid memories from that actually.
Kendall (29:45)
Well, we have some solid
stories for sure from that trip. I mean, I remember I remember it, but
Emily Gorrie (29:49)
I remember most of them. ⁓
That's a story
for another time. I'm sure we'll get into them at some point.
Kendall (29:58)
Yeah, I
wouldn't say it was in ⁓ eight K.
Emily Gorrie (30:04)
That's fair. That's fair. There's some missing
pieces. Like it's like the internet cut out for a couple of minutes, jumped right back in. It's cool. Bye.
Kendall (30:12)
Yeah.
Okay, this is a horrible transition, but I'm gonna do it anyways. Speaking of ⁓ misses and missing things, this is what I had to talk to you about today. I I cannot be the only one who goes insane.
Emily Gorrie (30:19)
I'm excited.
Okay.
Okay.
Kendall (30:42)
And feels like I am losing my mind when all of these little stupid little toys go missing.
Like does this happen to you? It happens to us all of the time.
Emily Gorrie (31:00)
Give me an example of one one toy that's l missing something right now.
Kendall (31:00)
Prime example.
I'll give you two because this is both of these have happened in the past few weeks. The first is the last literally last day of school, Owen came home and his lunchbox had leaked. And so Pierre took everything like off of the lunch or the backpack to wash the backpack.
Emily Gorrie (31:05)
Right.
Okay.
Okay.
I'm just gonna say if you had it in a lunch box in a bot in a bag, it might not have like it might have saved the backpack.
Kendall (31:32)
Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay.
Emily Gorrie (31:38)
I don't mean that I just mean you gave me a hard time for having like a lunch bag for the lunch box.
Kendall (31:44)
And you know what?
The backpack was fine. It just needed to be washed off.
Emily Gorrie (31:51)
And honestly backpacks probably need a good washing anyway. So they've been through the rigmarole. Yeah.
Kendall (31:55)
It was the end of school year
But no, fair c fair callback. so anyways, Pierre takes everything off of Owen's backpack.
Emily Gorrie (32:00)
Anyway, okay.
Okay.
Kendall (32:08)
And
Maybe isn't the most intentional on where to put those things while the backpack is drying, right? So he puts them on a tabletop. Those things include the farfale keychain that I bought for Owen when I was with you visiting you, that he loves.
Emily Gorrie (32:30)
Yeah. Yeah.
Great. So cute by the way. I love that.
Kendall (32:37)
Літерли the next day.
I'm walking by this table, I go, Where's the farfale?
I know o I know Pierre didn't pick it up. I know I didn't pick it up. I know Charlie can't reach that particular table. I go, Owen.
Did you pick up the farfale? He goes, Yeah. I said, okay. Did where where where did you where did you put it?
Emily Gorrie (33:07)
Where is it?
Kendall (33:18)
I'm like, and where did you put the farfale? In my room. Emily, I have been looking well, I'm I'm not looking for it now because I'm not at home. I literally spent two weeks every day looking for this effing farfale keychain.
That nobody else cares about, but I do because I'm losing my mind. So like that's it thank you. Where is it? It I literally at one point was like, do I buy a metal detector and try to find it? I I feel I just I I this is the stuff that makes me feel crazy. And then like
Emily Gorrie (33:44)
Yeah. It couldn't have walked away.
You let me know if you do.
Kendall (34:07)
We're packing to come to France and I'm trying to bring some toys for the kids to play with on the plane. I'm packing the Sesame Streak characters. I find all of them, with the exception of four.
Emily Gorrie (34:18)
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Kendall (34:28)
And they're kind of four big ones. Elmo, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, and Abby.
Emily Gorrie (34:36)
Those are like some of the big four. Like
Kendall (34:41)
Yeah, I mean
we have we have, you know, the what else? We have Bert, we have Grover, we have No, Ernie did not come in this set. Sorry, Ernie. ⁓ we have Gabrielle.
Emily Gorrie (34:48)
Ernie, do you have Ernie? Did you say Ernie? Didn't that's so silly. Didn't they don't they come
as a pair? Yeah. Anyway.
Kendall (34:59)
Well,
I think that's I think about that often actually, but we don't need to talk about that. I think about Bert and Ernie and their relationship a lot. again, I literally spent a day and a half looking, turning over our entire house looking for these four Sesame Street characters, and I did not find them.
Emily Gorrie (35:05)
Ha ha.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
Kendall (35:27)
And I I just have to know if it's just me. Like it makes me feel like I'm like literally losing my mind. And it is so infuriating to me.
Emily Gorrie (35:31)
Yeah.
To tell you that hits me to my core because there I'm trying to get rid of toys that the kids don't really play with anymore, but they came with like a lot of little pieces. And I have a bin in my garage of about 10 different toys that are missing one piece that I can't get rid of because there's one piece missing that I know is in my house somewhere. And I am really trying to like
Kendall (36:00)
Yes.
Emily Gorrie (36:09)
keep things out of the landfill if I can. So I'm like hanging onto them in a bin in my garage so I can like repurpose them and they're wooden toys for the most part. They're not like some of like the plastic things, you know, that we see, which we also have. Like I won't, you know, but these are some of like the nicer ones that I had gotten like when Olivia was first baby. Like I'd like to pass them along to a mom who could use them, but I can't find some of the pieces. And it's I think for majority, if not all of them, one piece missing.
Kendall (36:13)
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
And you're like, I this can't be this cannot be this hard.
Emily Gorrie (36:40)
One. So yes, you are not alone.
No, and I would like to throw it out there to all the Lego moms out there. So we do Duplo right now and like I don't understand how. Like I have anxiety thinking about all the pieces. So I got those like mesh zip top bags to like try and keep all the sets together, but like
That never happens. So now I've started just taking a bin and throwing them all in one and build whatever you see as like the most exciting thing in your brain. But like you can't then re-separate them and pass them along to like people because they're like missing pieces or you don't know which one goes to what. Like it gives my like need for detail such attention. I'm like, okay, we're just gonna say throw caution and just throw them together.
Kendall (37:15)
Yeah.
Сі, this is where
This is where when we say we're both type A, like this is also a thing. Like it, I ended up giving up on the duplos. Like, we have literally a box that is this a giant box that everything is thrown in. But one of those sets that I bought is a gingerbreut gingerbread house set that was very cute. And every Christmas.
Emily Gorrie (37:40)
I don't know.
Yeah.
Yes. You have to.
Kendall (38:09)
When I can't build it, I am annoyed. The kids don't care. I am annoyed.
Emily Gorrie (38:13)
Ha ha.
Yes. I I would like something to feel complete every so often. Yes.
Kendall (38:20)
Yes Ugh I'm just
so happy I'm not alone.
Emily Gorrie (38:24)
No, you are not alone in this. I would imagine that there are many, if not all, of us listening, feeling a very similar trend in their lives. We just got rid of the no, go ahead.
Kendall (38:36)
And it's probably good like
it's probably a good exercise in letting go and that I can't control everything, but I'm not there yet and that's part of my journey and that's fine.
Yeah.
Emily Gorrie (38:53)
I think you're doing
a lovely job of that because if you weren't able to let it go, you'd have bought that metal detector and you would be in Owen's room looking for the farfale and you would have found it by now and you've just kind of trusted and you let it go.
Kendall (39:08)
Mm.
Emily Gorrie (39:13)
You did. I'm manifesting that for you and you're gonna find the far folly when you least expect it.
Kendall (39:18)
Thank you. Maybe. ⁓
Emily Gorrie (39:19)
Gone.
I have high hopes. Are you gonna like step on it in the middle of the night and you're gonna be like, Where the F did that come from? 'Cause that's happened to me with a block before. Horrible.
Kendall (39:33)
⁓ that's the see the Lego stepping is the bad.
Emily Gorrie (39:37)
Yes.
Agreed. So we've been starting to get, Henry loves cars and trucks right now. Like it's like his huge obsession. So when we go to Legoland, because you know, you know their dad, we always seem to walk out of there with a Lego set, which is fine, but it's not usually the duplos. It's like the tiny taxi that has like all the little pieces that he thinks is fun to like pull apart and then he's like, put back together.
And I'm like, where are the directions? Like, where does this piece go? Or like, where's that piece? And some of them are clear. Clear. For like a headlamp. I'm like, we could use our imagination. I didn't need that clear piece. And I clearly don't need it because I can't find it.
Kendall (40:20)
But also like
⁓ cleared isn't great for ⁓ potentially swallowing it either.
Emily Gorrie (40:25)
Chase Minutes.
You know that happened.
Kendall (40:34)
No,
Emily Gorrie (40:35)
Henry swallowed a headlamp. A clear headlamp Lego. Yeah, probably like a couple months ago. He's like, I had gotten him, because he was prior primarily my kid who didn't put things in his mouth. We've evolved. He now puts things in his mouth, but he didn't at the time. So I had gotten him like one of those like big boxes of ⁓ small Lego. So I was like, we can evolve into this. He's like really good with a fine motor. Like, he doesn't put things in his mouth. We're gonna see.
Kendall (40:38)
Wait, what?
Emily Gorrie (41:04)
Within days he's like, Mama, where's the headlight? Where's the light? I was like, I don't know. Where's the light, Henry? He's like, ⁓ it, in my mouth.
I ate it. And Seth and I looked at each other and we were like, nah, Henry, like where is it? Like, spit it out. You know, like where did it go? Well I'm like looking under the couch. He's like, No, I ate it.
I was like, okay, well, I can't find it. So I'm gonna trust you on this one. So I, you know, call the nurse line. I'm like, all right, you know, this is he's saying I can't confirm or deny if this really happened or not. But like, what do I look for? You know, she basically was like, keep an eye out for like these things, like wheezing, coughing, if he has issues, like, you know, swallowing things or doesn't want to eat, like, you know, maybe it got stuck. So like you need to take him to the emergency room. But like,
We're, you know, if he doesn't have those symptoms, like there's a good chance it just made it into his stomach. And we're like not worried anymore. Like once it hits the stomach, it'll definitely pass. Cause it was tiny. It was like one of those like tiny, tiny, tiny little headlights. So I'm like, okay. She's like, you may see it in his diaper in like the next couple of days. We're like, okay. Two days later, without fail, in the poop. Found it. He did it. He ate it. ⁓ huh.
I have a picture of that di poopy diaper. Let me tell you. That is gonna be shown to him. You wanna know when he gave mom one of her first heart attacks? Here it is. This
Kendall (42:29)
I don't think
I never heard this story. ⁓ my god!
Emily Gorrie (42:41)
I don't either.
I feel like it would have been a voice memo. So, so funny. Yeah, he did. He ate it. So I don't know. Like, talk about missing pieces. I was really hoping it came out in his poop so I could close that door. Type A, baby. That went straight in the trash. We didn't keep it, but at least I knew where it was. Wasn't a missing piece anymore. Anyway.
Kendall (42:45)
Yeah.
Ha ha ha
⁓ man.
⁓ geez.
Yeah, you don't want to put that you don't wanna hand that that one down, that piece down.
Emily Gorrie (43:13)
No, no, that one went straight in the trash. That was funny. Maybe we would have framed it and given it to him in a little shadow box, but I didn't feel like digging through the poop on that one. Anyway, anyway. Yeah, we should. Like we need more laughter today. Actually, I could always use more laughter. What am I kidding? All right, here we go.
Kendall (43:17)
Ha ha ha ha
Should we do a listener note?
This has been fun.
Emily Gorrie (43:52)
I love this for her.
Not what I was expecting this morning with the submission saying cheese it's, but I like it. Have you done that? Maybe not cheese its, but like
Kendall (43:59)
Yeah.
Well so
well like there's
I part of why I'm laughing is because like my kids don't my younger one does because we have a caretaker who like makes her breakfast, but we live 40 a 40-minute drive from school. So my kids don't eat a full breakfast pretty much any day. So like part of why I'm chuckling is because like
Emily Gorrie (44:25)
Yeah.
Mm.
Yeah.
Kendall (44:42)
I'm I very much admire that her norm is to make breakfast because I'm like, here are your options. You want a piece, literally a piece of brioche. Like not not toasted, like a piece of brioche. Maybe I'll put some like jam on it for you. Maybe. Do you want a yogurt pouch? Yeah. You want a yogurt pouch?
Emily Gorrie (44:56)
Yeah. ⁓
Yeah. If you can keep it clean in the car, yeah.
Kendall (45:12)
Or fruit. Those are your three options in our house any given morning. If I like sometimes I'll make actually ⁓ not sponsored, but if you are interested, Trader Joe's. the Trader Joe's mini croissants are pretty good. Well, and they only take, they're so easy. They take, first of all, you don't even have to preheat the oven.
Emily Gorrie (45:16)
Yeah.
you love us. Yeah. They're easy.
Kendall (45:40)
Yeah throw right in there. They take twenty twenty five minutes.
Emily Gorrie (45:41)
Mm.
Yeah. To set it, forget it, walk away. Mhm. I love it. I love it. That's it's
Kendall (45:46)
So like a luxurious a luxurious day in our house is a croissant morning. So like
I've not done Cheez Its, but not far off.
Emily Gorrie (45:58)
Yeah, it's so funny because we're like the polar opposite, which is probably why we're always late. Because Olivia needs a good breakfast. Like she's like, Mom, what's for breakfast? Like I need breakfast. And sometimes, you know, they'll do ⁓ like yogurt and or cottage cheese with like fruit. Sometimes it'll be like toast, but like sometimes she's like, I want eggs. I'm like, Okay.
Kendall (46:05)
Ha ha
Emily Gorrie (46:22)
You know, and then if anyone cooks on stainless steel pans, you gotta like prime them. So you gotta like turn it on, heat it up, then you know, cool it back down. It's like a whole thing. And Seth has has it down to a science. I I could use some work on it, but ⁓ but he likes Seth makes breakfast like a legit breakfast for the kids, like both days. Whether it be a smoothie, he makes it. Sometimes we do eggs. I've been trying to add like more protein to my breakfast so I can have my supplements. It's like an a
Carb, so you need the fruit and then you gotta wash the I don't know. We just maybe I need to like learn how to prep better, but we do like full breakfast in our house. So I love the Cheez It for her because it feels so doable. I just wish my kids ate Cheez Its. They actually don't like ⁓ They prefer goldfish.
⁓ I like Cheez Its.
Kendall (47:11)
I don't think my kids have ever had a cheese
it. ⁓
Emily Gorrie (47:16)
Yeah, they cheeses are running like the birthday party circuit for a little bit, like in like the little snack bags. ⁓ that was just like a blip. I don't know. They're not usually a that's usually goldfish or something. ⁓ I think they're kind of spicy compared to like a goldfish. Not like spicy like in true nature, but like for kids.
Kendall (47:21)
yeah. Yeah.
I might
Yeah. I ⁓
I might try to add that into a snackle box sometime. Snackle boxes literally my kids the number one thing that they enjoy about travel is that when we go on an airplane, they get a snackle box.
Emily Gorrie (47:43)
Yeah.
Yes. Yes. I feel like we should do that for breakfasts. Breakfast snackle snackle boxes. We're on the way. You get a little bit of, you know, a couple fruit pieces. You get a little, maybe like we have ⁓ a lot of like pancakes and waffles frozen. So like throw them in the toaster, chop them up, put them in a one of the I have like a box that's not quite as complex as the snackle box. It has like a lot of little ones. I have one that's like
Kendall (47:57)
Is their favorite thing?
Yeah.
Emily Gorrie (48:23)
⁓ two and two. So there's four sections. Waffle, fruit. I don't know what else you put in there.
Kendall (48:31)
This could totally like unlock something for me when school goes back is like a breakfast a breakfast charcuterie board.
Emily Gorrie (48:36)
Yeah, on the way. You prep it the night before it
yes, we do that for dinner quite regularly as well.
Kendall (48:47)
Cause I I'll make like protein waffles and then freeze because we have like the yeah, like the mini, the dash mini makers. I'll freeze those. And yeah, I like this.
Emily Gorrie (48:48)
Mm-hmm. Right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Right? So all this this listener needs is like a little snackle box. So that cheese it right in there. You've got it, you're halfway there, right? Little cheese it. That's like cheese, that's a protein. You can count that. Throw a little fruit in there, right? Maybe like a little bit of like ⁓ toast, toast with jam, and like you're good to go.
Kendall (49:14)
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Honestly, yeah. Throw out the toasted like put a toast and jam in there, even just the fruit and like a
Emily Gorrie (49:33)
Banana peel that baby. Don't peel that. I don't know what your kid wants, but don't take it from me. But yeah, right? I feel like J Fid is like you're almost entirely there to a full meal.
Kendall (49:36)
There you go.
Yeah.
Or like a little apple
an apple peanut butter dipper. There you go. Some protein.
Emily Gorrie (49:52)
E if you're willing to risk
the peanut butter in the car, yeah, I'm with you. I'm not quite there yet. We just had to get the cars detailed because there was yogurt all over the ceiling. So those yogurt pouches are really fun to squeeze and throw.
Kendall (49:57)
I like this idea.
Emily Gorrie (50:11)
My poor car. So I'm like less in the sticky sauce phase in the car. My children. My children. ⁓
Kendall (50:13)
Wow.
I I would say so. Well, this
listener just totally unlocked something for me, so now I have a lot of thinking to do.
Emily Gorrie (50:30)
Well, I hope that you will share what you come up with on your little snackle boxes. Cause I feel like we could all use something.
Kendall (50:39)
I will come back to you with what I end up planning. I'm thinking.
Frozen waffle protein ball. Like make a little granola peanut butter kind of protein ball fruit.
Emily Gorrie (50:51)
⁓
Okay.
For those who don't wanna make anything, make good makes pretty good, like aller allergen free granola bites. They're not like high in protein necessarily, but like those could be easy things to like toss in the box.
Kendall (51:08)
Yeah.
Yeah, okay. I think this is we're I think we're on to something here. So ⁓ this was a quite a successful listener submission. Thank you.
Emily Gorrie (51:13)
When you're in a pinch?
Agreed. Agreed.
And of course, as always, if you're listening and you have your own moment that you must share with us, because you absolutely know that other moms will say, wait, same, please do send us an email, send it to us on Instagram. We will link how to do it exactly in the show notes. And we want to hear them. So please share them with us. You never know what kind of inspiration will strike. And until next week, we will be back.
