Too THURL
Jay & Tai host this lifestyle comedy podcast that dives into candid, unfiltered conversations through personal stories, work experiences, and relationship highs and lows. Each episode keeps it honest, relatable, and a little bit hilarious—because being “thurl” isn’t always perfect, but it’s always real.

This banger of an episode kicks off with Jay and Tai reflecting on reaching their first major podcast milestone (10 episodes!!), talking about their recent livestream and the direction they see Too Thurl heading. Then they welcome their second-ever guest, Derek from Providence — someone Jay bonded with and formed a lifelong friendship at Full Sail University nearly 15 years ago. Although Jay only spent about eight months at Full Sail and the two haven’t seen each other in person since, they’ve stayed close through sports, video games, and eventually finding themselves in a similar chapter of life as single dads to sons.
Derek shares the story of how he originally met Jay and drops a bomb that completely blows Taiwan’s mind. The conversation moves into sports, including AJ Brown on the Patriots, Jaylen Brown, and the Sixers/Celtics rivalry. To close things out, Derek gives his Top 5 Philly Sports Moments, where he proceeds to absolutely clown Jay and Tai along the way.
A milestone episode, an old friendship, a few unbelievable stories, and plenty of Philly sports shit-talking.
Hey, there he is. Hey, what up, boys? What's going on? Jason, my man. Like absolute shit over there. Hi, how you doing, bro?
SPEAKER_00There's nothing you can there's nothing T.I. really have that can uh basically um go against with Lil Wayne. Who says that? What you mean who said that? I love T.I. I do too.
SPEAKER_02He was ripped a little whip Lil Random apart. Get him?
SPEAKER_00Lil Wayne, yes, that's what I'm saying. Okay. That's what I'm saying. There's nothing T.I. will play. There's nothing. Like if Lil Wayne plays anything, there's nothing TI can really play to go against that.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00Interesting. Bring him out. Let him know. If he plays, bring him out or let him know. Or even he plays rubber band. Robert Bandman. Wow, that's the teleban. That's my jam.
SPEAKER_02We get right in there.
SPEAKER_00Lil Wayne gonna yo, Lil Wayne would eat him up, bro.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. In adversa. Yeah. And then he'd go and hop and put on episode 10 of the Two Thorough Podcast. Yeah. We made it. If Lil Wayne does that. Alright, but I was transitioning to the 10th episode thing. That's pretty cool because you want to know a neat statistic? What? 8 to 15% of podcasts that start do not make it to episode 10. That is absolutely right. We made it. Blacked out, baby. Birds. Process. Trust the process. So what were you doing in Scrotum PA this week? Scrotum. I told you I had a good opening line. Scrotum? That's what I thought it said, but it was an end. Scott Run. I was way off. Yeah. Looked like Scrotum. I'll put a picture up and you guys can decide. It looked like Scrotum. No. Alright, so what were you doing in Scott? Scott Run. Scott Runner. Oh, that's easy to say. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So we decided to take the kids to Great Wolf Lod, the Pokonose PA.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00The you know the water part. The water part telling you about. Yeah. That me and you was going to try and take Bryce and West. Right. So we we took the kids there. And then after that, we went to the movie theater to go see Spider-Man.
SPEAKER_02I was gonna say Spider-Man.
SPEAKER_00Guess who is Spider-Man?
SPEAKER_02You I was gonna say Sophie Rain. No, man.
SPEAKER_00Oh, this is gonna be a good episode. So I got to the I got to the movie theater. Kids were scared. One kid was scared. Of what? No, the suit. I had the Spider-Man. I had the whole thing on. I had the whole thing with a mask and everything. Oh my god. I was getting my popcorn. Oh my god. And then, like I said, Spider-Man, Spider-Man. One kid was very excited when I first walked through and I waved to him. And he waved back, pop pop, oh whisper. I was like, I don't gotta whisper. And give me a hug. You whispered in his ear? Nah, he just whispered. He just kidding. He just whispered, he said, pop up, Spider-Man. And I said, You don't gotta whisper. So the kid came up, gave me a hug, I gave him a hug. After that, we went in and we got the popcorn. So the kids are like, go scare him. Go scare her. Go scare her. She's scared of Spider-Man. I'm like, I'm not gonna do that. So I just brought her a small popcorn, gave her a hug. And so I'm like, there's nothing to be scared about. Such a gentleman. So Spider Man was good.
SPEAKER_02Damn. I was scared the shit out of her.
SPEAKER_00Kids love me.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they do.
SPEAKER_00They love me.
SPEAKER_02You're a good dad. You're a good kid. I am too. Kids love me too. We're good. We act like we're kids, right? Yeah. I'm a big kid. A big kid.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you can't. Trust me. Do not see me at a park. All these kids are playing tag. We're playing kickball. Even stranger kids, like. Stranger things.
SPEAKER_02No, but what did you really say?
SPEAKER_00I heard Stranger Kid.
SPEAKER_02Alright. I heard I heard Stranger. I heard that right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like I took I took Wes to the park one time and kid just came up because we were playing kickball. So they wanted to play.
SPEAKER_02I'm like, go ask your mama daddy. Were you playing like actual kickball, like with the bases? Like in baseball? No. Not at first. Me and West, no. Okay.
SPEAKER_00We were just kicking the ball. So you're playing, you're having a soccer pass. Basically, yeah. And then that's when kids came up. It was like about six of them. And they wanted to play. So I was like, all right. And I set a little rocks. And I said, okay, this way y'all gonna run this up. And everybody won me on 18. I'm not kicking the ball. I wonder why.
SPEAKER_02Athletic. Yeah, yeah. Kickball. Kickball was fun, dude. We used to play that in gym class, recess.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02Kickball, dodgeball. Yeah, dodgeball. You remember manhunt? Oh my god. Yeah, I explained that to Bryce the other day. Dude, I was such a little bitch, dude. I always had to hide with someone, and the best spots were like the darkest spots and the creepiest spots.
SPEAKER_00Nah, I had to find me right away. I had the best hunt spot even playing. You remember Cops and Robbers? Yeah, that's what Manhunt is, basically. Well, yeah, but we played Comps and Robbers, Tag, anything. I had the best hunt spot because nobody wanted to go there. And I was the only one there. Where was it? You're not gonna believe me.
SPEAKER_02I have no idea. Up in the tree. You could climb. Better watch out for sloth. Hey. They'll get you. Nah, they can get me. Reference from the last episode, episode nine.
SPEAKER_00That was that was kind of good.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I try. I told you this could be a good episode. We got a special guest guide on tonight. We definitely do.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02And what are we just waiting on home? Do you want? Yeah, yeah. I don't even know if you I silenced my phone, but dude, the last four hours have been so stressful trying to figure out how to do this. So I don't know if we're gonna do this right, but we're gonna try. I see, because you a little red. I could see. Yeah, it's been very it's been it's been a couple hours, dude. Not that red. Nah, not me neither, not that red, but you read. You read.
SPEAKER_00I'm black. Did you read those thorough thoughts? So, just in case Jay didn't tell everybody, we got our first three little pennies, three cents. And we I don't know, like it was just an excitement thing. Like, like how excited were you? We're monetized, bitch.
SPEAKER_02Made that money. Can't take that from us. And if you do how excited were you? I framed it. Uh 10. Because I hate TikTok. And I did not want to lie go live on there. I wanted to go live on Twitch. But you know, I went live or we went live on TikTok. That was a process. Oh my gosh. He didn't record it. I had to take a selfie with my ID and everything. It it ruined the first 50 episodes for hassle. Golf is hard. Yeah. Bro. A lot of people make comments on your swing. They want to know how you're how you're not hurt right now.
SPEAKER_00Well, I'm an athlete, so at the end of the day, I mean, if it if I am hurt, I'll just keep it moving. Well, you were saying stuff about your back.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But I'm used to it. So that was a good time. And it literally earned us three cents. And I was excited. I got a confession to make though. I spent two of the cents. Because on TikTok, it's a whole engagement thing.
SPEAKER_00Alright, so that's cool. You spent my penny, your penny, and we're paying for you.
SPEAKER_02I gifted some, I don't know, some shit to someone. Because then maybe we'll get more gifts, which equate to more pennies.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Pennies turn into dollars. Dollars turn into dollars.
SPEAKER_00They turned into benji's.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay, there we go. But yeah, I mean, my first time, guys, don't get me wrong, it's my first time actually out there golf. I did top golf before, but doing that was totally different. Yeah. Totally different. Yeah. I have no idea what the hell Jay was doing on the screen. I wasn't even hitting him that good, honestly. Jay was supposed to be teaching me how to bowl. I mean, bowl. Jay was supposed to teach me how to golf, but he was in there laughing at me the whole time. I was not. I was not. You was laughing. No. Every time I missed the ball, you laughed.
SPEAKER_02False. There's video proof out there. A couple times I did laugh when it was funny. And then after that, you did the same exact thing. Yeah, I swung a mist for the third time. I've never swung a mist in my entire life. That's how frazzled I was from the fucking verification bullshit before you could go on live.
SPEAKER_00What a process everything is nowadays. But Jay can actually go. I see. I mean, well, I don't know nothing about golfing, but what I seen, he can golf.
SPEAKER_02I can hit the ball. Alright, it's taking a while. Not having a job, I was able to get out there and Jay.
SPEAKER_00You hit the ball further than I did when I've been asking this dude next to me, like, what do you do? How do you do this? Yeah. Yeah, not one question for this dude.
SPEAKER_02Because I don't understand what they're telling me. I have understood one thing in my entire life. Someone told me, shout out to my ex-fantasy football commissioner, keep your arms straight, do not bend them. And it was uncomfortable at first, and I got used to it, and that's how I do it now. Okay, but do you see the difference between me and you? Yeah. What's the difference? Where do I start? You're short? Okay. I don't know. I don't know. Athletic-wise, you're bigger than me.
SPEAKER_00Right. Okay. So my arm not bending. I mean, not staying straight the way you always show them. So it has nothing to do with that. Come on. This is the fucking worm. I can't do the worm. Explain that. Jay. That boy. No, hitting the ball, like you say, keep your arm straight. I can only stop here.
SPEAKER_02That's where I start to bend them. You have to find a middle ground. Like you, it's it physically impossible to keep them straight all the way. Okay, that's how I started. I was a smart ass. I was like, oh, how am I gonna do this? But then I was like, okay, it's physically impossible. How far can I actually bend them? And I try and keep them straight as possible. And you see the ball go up in the air.
SPEAKER_00And the crazy part about it, you never say that to me. I had to figure that out myself.
SPEAKER_02I wouldn't even have thought to say that. I'm not a good teacher with stuff that I've been taught and don't really know. Great teacher with stuff I do know. Develop the shit out of people. But yeah, it hurt, man. Yeah. But guess see, people say, oh, yeah, I'm clowning you with all the golf and everything. Guess what? I want you to take me to your barbershop for a haircut. Um who wants to see that? Next week. Alright. I'm gonna ask for a shape up. Isn't that a thing? So you go to a barber shop to get a shape up. What would I well I can't shape? I I'm good at cutting my own hair, but I can't shape it up. So what am I gonna ask for?
SPEAKER_00I don't, whatever you want. Do you want a fade? Do you want a uh a one, a two, like stuff in my drawer? He knows me already, so I don't have to ask anything.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Alright, so let's we'll time this out to when I actually need a hair, because I just cut my sides. I shaved my sides on the middle of last week.
SPEAKER_00Alright, so two weeks, two weeks from now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I'm already gonna get a haircut next week. Alright. Well, matter of fact, no. I need one hair. Well, you get a haircut every week, don't you?
SPEAKER_02I need one this week. All right. I need one this week. Should I grow up my beard? Like, that's what I want. I want them to shape my beard, like give me nice, yeah. Fresh to death.
SPEAKER_00Jay? Yeah. I'm just letting you know now. This is a black-owned barbershop.
SPEAKER_02I'm aware.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02Do I need never mind.
SPEAKER_00You need what? I got you. Yeah. You gotta let him know ahead of time of recording. I got no, so what I'm gonna do is so the dude, I mean he don't cut my hair no more, but he's been cutting my well, his dad been cutting my hair since I was a kid. And then he started cutting my hair after. But he don't cut my hair now, but I have another barber that's there. Because I gave some young bull that was there, you know. I'm not gonna say what he been through, but I gave him a chance. So I like how he cut my hair and everything. So I've been going to him now. The owner I'm still cool with. So I'm gonna ask him, like, hey, do you mind? Well, I'm gonna ask both of them, do y'all mind if we record while you're cutting his hair? You know, this is first, you know, black-owned barbershop that he's coming to. You know, we doing a little podcast with us. I gotcha. All right. Here we go.
SPEAKER_02You heard it first. We're setting this up. This episode's dropping. This will drop. They'll hear this today on Thorough Thursday, which is a week from now, and then the week we don't record, we'll go.
SPEAKER_00Is we win go.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. If you didn't read Thorough Thoughts or check social media, we're recording every other week. Yeah. Because once a week, or if not every other week, we will be going live and doing something fun and funny for good content.
SPEAKER_00And honestly, tell you, I think out next live. I'm excited. So you took me golfing. This time is my chance. Yeah, it got a lot of people. I'm a clown. I'm easy to make fun of. No, I'm taking you somewhere that you don't know what you're doing.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I got you. Bro, I got you on that too. All right, we each get one where we blindfold each other because I need to blindfold you for mine.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, lock it in. I'm fucked.
SPEAKER_00Okay. All I'm saying is bumps and bruises. Where are you dropping me off at? I ain't dropping you off. We going. I can do it. Oh, boxing.
SPEAKER_02He's working to box.
SPEAKER_00Oh no, that's not next. All right. That that's that's probably like in like three weeks. We gotta add that to the content list. See, we got so much good stuff. All right, I hit my boy up. All right. There you go. So when I say I hit my boy up, I'm not gonna say his name because I'm not sure if he wants me to, but I text him and say, But my thing is if y'all watch Creed, the very, very first Creed, Michael B. Jordan. Yeah. When Creed walked into the gym and put up his car, and the dude that actually stepped up, that's my boy.
unknownDamn.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Get him on the pod. And I know, Jay, you better say Luigi. Cap. Oh, cap.
SPEAKER_02But it's actually true, like No, I believe that. Oh, I better say I got a lot of people. I didn't cap. Like, no, I I know when you're capping or exaggerating. That one, I bought that.
SPEAKER_00That was good. Like it definitely. I didn't honestly when I found out he was in Kree One, I didn't believe it. I thought he was lying. So you knew him before you knew. Before Kree One. Okay. Yeah. I I literally I was I worked for him. He was a construction worker, so I worked for him. I did demos for him, like basically, you know, taking everything down.
SPEAKER_02Tear that shit down.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that was me. And then help him put down carpets and everything like that. That's what I was doing. But when I finally actually got to know him, and he was like, Yeah, he said, I want to see what you can do. You feel like you great. He said, I want you to be my second man. I said, All right, bet. Like that. He said, Do you even know who I am? I said, Yeah, you're my boss. It's a movie star. He said, No, he said that. Did you ever watch Creek? I said, Yeah. He said, Did you watch the first one? I said, Yeah. He said, So you don't remember the first dude that stepped up to Michael B. Jordan? I said, Do I? No. I don't remember that. Standing right in front of you, bro. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I was like, all right, like, you know.
SPEAKER_00I looked it up and I said, holy shit, it really is you. That's crazy. So yeah, so I hit him up. All right. See if we can go to his gym. Me and you can throw the boxing gloves on. Hell yeah. Me and you. Yeah. Throw the boxing gloves on. Yeah. I gotta reach.
SPEAKER_02Tell me nothing. You're gonna knock me out.
unknownI ain't gonna knock you out. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'm trying to figure out how to invite our guest. How to what? Yeah, I didn't like this where where this was going because I know that you're gonna beat me up in a boxing match. I'm not gonna beat you up, yeah. You're gonna knock my ass out. You got all that thing. You think I can't golf?
SPEAKER_00Boom.
SPEAKER_02All right, back to figuring this out.
SPEAKER_00This is gonna be this is gonna be fun.
SPEAKER_02Host tools. Hey, there he is.
SPEAKER_01Hey, what up, boys? What's going on? Like absolute shit over there. Hi, how you doing, bro?
SPEAKER_02I'm good. How are you, Matt? He's got notes. That's an opening.
SPEAKER_01Did you guys already uh start recording?
SPEAKER_02No, we gotta clap. Yeah. Ready to clap?
SPEAKER_01Wait, no or yeah. Ready?
SPEAKER_02Alright. Good luck, Goofy. We clapped. Yeah, we're 20 minutes in. We got good stuff. Oh, what'd you drinking over there? What'd you drinking over there?
SPEAKER_01Oh, just a uh modello imported from Mexico. It's golden, full flavored, Pilsner style lager with a clean, crisp finish. Sponsor the podcast.
SPEAKER_02Ooh, yeah, he's good, dude. He had a podcast. He's used to writing stuff. Okay. Now you try, you do it with the cut lager.
SPEAKER_01I'm a video.
SPEAKER_00I have no idea. Come on. What's actually in this stuff, but I'm drinking lime. Cut water. The margarita. What percentage is it? Oh. Oh, dang. Yeah.
SPEAKER_0212.5. We got hairs on our chest over here.
unknownAll right.
SPEAKER_0112.5. I'll be honest. I didn't know. I didn't know what we were getting right into it. So I'm recording now. What's up, boys? How are we doing? Good to see you.
SPEAKER_02All right now. Wait, let's do the clap now again. All right. Pause and the clap. There we go. Yeah. Three, two, one. Yeah, I don't know. There's a delay and shit. There's oh, I guess he's gonna hear the clap on his audio file, and we'll hear the clap on yeah, Goofy's got it. Yeah. All right. So yeah, we got right into it. So this is this is my boy Derek. What's going on, brother? Known him for 15 years now. Went to school with him down in full sale.
SPEAKER_01He was like he was a straight A's. I did get I did get A's.
SPEAKER_00You talking about the St. J say here? Bro, you all you had to do is show up to class.
SPEAKER_02And and you just stopped. You can get him that way. No, those are the those files are classified right now. Oh wait, I did stop before I left. Yeah, you're right. That was a theme, dude. I hate school. I could have gone to school for podcasting, but here we are.
SPEAKER_00So let me ask you a question, Derek. How do you actually like stay friends with this guy? First of all, okay, let me rephrase that. Because in the beginning of our friendship, before the friendship, we never liked each other. Okay? That's one. How did you actually become friends with this guy? And he's quiet as hell. Yeah, I'm curious. How did you do that? I'm curious.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. I feel like we kind of just we chose the same circles to follow in like the first the first like month or so. Well, okay. I chose a circle that had your roommate in it at the time. So I met you through your roommate, Lisa, who I have not heard from in years. He yeah, he was in this faced. She was in my class for most of my college. Two opposite ass people, Jason and Lisa. She was very bubbly, and Jason was the only bubbles, the only bubbles come from him or from his fucking bond.
SPEAKER_02Yo. Sounds about right.
SPEAKER_00That was incredible.
SPEAKER_01So did you just uh man.
SPEAKER_00So did you approach Jason or did Jason approach you? No, they who started talking first?
SPEAKER_02They definitely all showed up for like a pregame or something. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Lisa invited a few people back to their apartments, and obviously Jason lived there. So I think maybe he was playing a video game, maybe something, but there was just a hobby that I had that he also had that made us just like me. Like, you know, and I I we both moved down there. Well, I moved down there not knowing anybody. You and Lisa, you guys kind of knew each other previously a little bit. So I was a little bit more like trying to meet people, trying to vibe with people, people who seemed like they were cool.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01And you know, people who maybe in 15 years might ask me to have a conversation on camera. So like I fucking nailed this. Yeah, I mean. Our teams and that kind of just you know once you get those juices flowing, especially after God knows what cheap alcohol we were drinking back then, it's just like, oh, we're did we just become best friends?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. Video games, sports betting, he was diehard. He's it's Providence, he's from Providence. Big Boston fan, loves obsessed with the Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox, Bruins, all that.
SPEAKER_01Not not a big Bruins guy. I'm just not a big hockey guy, you know. I just want to I just want the people to, you know, I don't want anybody DMing me questions about the Bruins and but you know whatever, all the other teams, I got it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so he's a big sports fan, degenerate gambler like me. We don't, you know, spend hundreds and hundreds, but five, ten, fifteen dollar ridiculous parlay, stuff like that. And no, we had a lot of fun. He smoked weed, drank. What why is that funny? It's something to bond over.
SPEAKER_00Because I the reason why when he said you smoke weed, honestly, I used to, but I stopped. So normally sometimes I get the urge that I want to. Like even if I'm around like my girlfriend, sister, whatever, I'll be like, oh, let me hit that. But about the about the weed or the weed. So it's like I can't and I don't want to, but it's like it's sometimes the urge because like it's I'm not gonna say I'm addicted or anything. It's just like sometimes like it clear, like you everybody knows it clears your mind. You know, it shuts your body, like your body, I ain't gonna say shut it completely down, but it shuts your body down a little bit and get you focused. So smelling I'll be like, oh, I miss it, but I really don't care for it. So that's why I started laughing because it happened this past weekend too. I was like, You smoked again? No. No, uh, when I hit the pen at the golf course, no. So yeah, that one, and then also like we was at some type of uh lake or whatever. I never been to a lake. Never been till lake. But went to the lake once again. Can't swim. The only black person at the lake. I don't even have to say it anymore. He just says it for me. So everybody did everybody smoking, everybody. So it's like I was left out. You feel me? Because normally when I when people smoke, I smoke. And but that was back in you know when I used to. So I was like, you know what, I don't feel like that because now my girl not smoking, so I'm good. But it was like it was the smell, so that's what I thought about.
SPEAKER_02I gotcha. All right. Well, thanks for that backstory on the laughter.
SPEAKER_00That's what's left at y'all.
SPEAKER_02I want to bring up another thing now that me and Derek have in common, he's got in common with you. Is we started talking again recently because of the podcast, and I found out he's been single for two years now. And he's also he's also got a yeah, clap it up, clap it up. I'm not trying to say, you know, huge competition.
SPEAKER_01Only five people in the world are single, and we're two of them.
SPEAKER_00Yes. No, three. Well, three. No, you're I don't know what uh we don't, whatever. Well, not single, but actually like single parent, like my son. Single single.
SPEAKER_02But he's also he's got a son as well, so we're all single. So yeah. And my dad's how old is your son?
SPEAKER_01He's nine.
unknownYep.
SPEAKER_02Around the same age. Nine, nine, eight, seven.
SPEAKER_01Hey, look at that. Pretty awesome. I just took him took him to Gillette Stadium on Tuesday. Was it Tuesday? Yeah, two two days ago. We went to the training camp, Patriots training camp. And that was fun. It's like our little tradition, it's our fourth year going. Fucking awesome. It's like it's it's like really cool because it's free to the public, but then you know, you go to the pro shop and that's where they get you for like 160 bucks on like a couple things, and it's like, well, whatever. It's the tax for the fun, I guess, the memories.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01The journey we'll fit them in one year.
SPEAKER_00So you're a Patriots fan. I am a Patriots fan, yeah. I'm afraid I'm afraid to actually this, brother. Please bear with me. How do you feel about AJ Brown, my boy?
SPEAKER_01Being cautious. I don't want to get too excited. I respect the talent. I respect you know what he's done. I also understand he's got a history of kind of being, you know, a little bitch sometimes on the sidelines and you know, crying with the team or at the coach and stuff. So reading. That's a green flag. But you know, I'm I'm hoping, I'm not expecting Randy Moss 2007 type numbers here, but you know, maybe maybe give me like 12 touchdowns, maybe like 1100 yards, and just just you know, keep keep the offense moving. I'm thinking I I I think I mean obviously our record's not gonna be as good as next year or as last year, but I'm pretty excited. I think we I think we have a shot at the division this year because I'm I'm not I'm not buying the bills. I think I think their windows closed. Not that we're gonna win the AFC, but I think we win the AFC East. That's book it.
SPEAKER_02I can see that. Okay. Well, what about in terms of drama and locker room with Mr. AJ?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean who would have thought that us getting him, he wouldn't even be the biggest locker room distraction. Because our coach is a sexual deviant. So I but you know, he's cured. He spent one day in rehab. He's cured. Dude, one day in bro, he was there all day. He's good. He's he's never gonna do it. 24 hours or you know, an eight an eight-hour day. It might have been like an eight-hour day. Maybe maybe eight and a half if they gave him 30 minutes to Yeah, he's he's cured, he's good. Yeah, and honestly, I saw him the other day, it looked like it looked like he just loved his wife. She wasn't on the field, but I just got that vibe from him. Like, there's a fucking guy who loves his wife, and you know, and she loves him because they she's she's still with him.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, what a fairy tale story that is. My god.
SPEAKER_01We should all be so lucky.
SPEAKER_02We should. We definitely should. All right. With that being said, what goes on down there with sports talk radio? Do you listen to sports talk radio? Like, do they eat this shit up like Philly does?
SPEAKER_01The sports radio here is the most negative bullshit. It's I I really don't really listen to it anymore. It is just, it is all fucking negative. There, like, if you cause because a lot of the guys who do sports radio, like there's like Michael Felger, he's like, he does he works in the market, but he's not a fan, so he's very like straight. But and like he gets calls from Patriots fans all day, hey Felder, throw the fucking pets, how about them? And he's and and he gives them a you know, he gives them a nice glass of like fucking relaxed juice. So it's like now it's but there's also you know, there's definitely some biased people, but I try not to listen to a lot of it because I get I get mad and I get like like I I used to call in a lot to those stations and now I'm like man I can't be doing that. Like I just so I just I'll just tweet about it, or now I'll just I'll just text I'll just text Jason be like can you believe this shit?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, uh Twitter, you were fucking great on Twitter back in the day. Oh my god. He was hysterical. Yeah, he wrote blogs. Nah, no way. He wrote blogs. He had a podcast before this, so he's he's very creative and he's fucking hysterical. Okay.
SPEAKER_01I will say, I mean, Jay, like it it fucking fired me up. Can we swear on this? It's gonna fuck up that Jason was doing this. Like, I'm and just his articles, he's doing podcasts. It's like, this is amazing, man. Where was this 10 years ago when I was in school with you? We could have fucking we could have ran the world. 15 years ago. Man, why are you gonna say that? Instead, I'm hanging out with film students, I'm acting for fucking Evans Evans movies with his classes and stuff. And it's like, what the hell am I doing, man? It's like am I me there was one time me and Lisa were thinking about doing a show, and I'm like, oh my god, this is the lowest point of my life.
SPEAKER_00But I'm the lowest point now. That's hysterical. Honestly, I didn't even think this was gonna even happen, honestly, to tell you the truth. What do you mean? So when Jay first, he didn't even come to me first. Oh, yeah, it's in it's in a it's in volume one of Thorough Thoughts. I wrote about it.
SPEAKER_01That's fucked up.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Thank you. So Jay went to somebody else. So when Jay part of it, though. I was part of it, but I was like the third person. So when Jay did all that, and Jay came to me and told me, So yeah, I'll do it. Like, you know, it's in fun to me. I watch a lot of podcasts, I listen to a lot of podcasts. After that, a week, not even a week later, he said, Okay, you're number two.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but why? Because I gave you guys both assignments or whatever, and you actually did it and did so much more than I expected. And I'm not gonna talk.
SPEAKER_01Take us behind the curtain. Like, what are we talking about?
SPEAKER_02Business plan, my vid, like I spelled it all out for him. I said, I need you to understand podcasts. I sent him everything I was listening to, everything I was studying. Like, we're not just gonna get a computer and mics and hit play and record and make a podcast. Like, I put legwork into this, and I need someone that's gonna care about it the same way, not as much as I did because it it was my passion, but like right up there. And he is he is there with me now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, you guys, your guys' chemistry. I I just see clips and I listen to some shit on the podcast. I listen to a little bit, and you guys have great chemistry. You guys are just both you're both mellow but fucking hilarious people, and it's like it's just a good vibe. It's like you're not gonna come on here expecting to like cry and like have like really sad stories and nothing. Like you guys are just you guys are chilling and you gotta go. Carry that shit. Good good chemistry. And Jason, your t-shirts sucks, by the way. Oh, sorry, go ahead.
SPEAKER_02I was gonna give you a compliment and say that's why you're gonna guest for number episode number 10 because you're the same exact five. This fucking t-shirt, trust the process, baby. This year's gonna be so much fun.
SPEAKER_01What's going through your head? What's going through we'll get to the Eagles. What's going through your head, Jason? Uh you you got LeBron James on the fucking sixes. You got Jalen Brown. It still really hasn't hit me.
SPEAKER_02No, it's been hit me. Like, it's wild, like this never happens to us. The worst things happen to Sixers. This is like right.
SPEAKER_00You ever play like the 2K or whatever? Yeah. And then they actually do you want to play the all-star team? Yeah, this is what it is. Like, it hit me with someone I seen. I said, and I start naming a five, like, and I say, wait a minute, hold up. This is really the whole all-star team. And that's it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I will say, I do not think we win the championship this year. I think we lose and then come back and win next year. Now, with you being sick, Jalen Brown, how like, are you mad at him or are you mad at Brad Stevens?
SPEAKER_01Fuck no, he didn't do anything. He's Jalen Brown was a perfect Celtic. He was a great citizen, he's a great man. Jalen Brown is the fucking best. I'm just more upset at how we handled the trade. I mean, I thought about the trade every single day since it happened, and I still can't find a silver lining. I mean, it doesn't make any sense. By the time we get that first round pick, my son's gonna be in college. Like, we're just Jason Tatum is gonna be LeBron's age. Like, why did we do that? I I understand wanting to get the money off of the cat off the salary, but it's like Paul George makes almost 98% as much money as him. And he sucks. And he can't, he's not, he doesn't suck. He can't stay healthy. He and he's not he's not Jalen Brown. And those first round picks are bullshit. Unless they were for next year, but like even then, I mean you guys will be good next year, but it's still like it's just it makes no sense unless and these these rumors are floating right now. Here we go. Unless they unless they package those those picks, maybe a few more picks, maybe Paul George, and they go. Steph Curry? And they go they go and get a little bit of a Steph Curry. I think it's happening. I would I'll be all in.
SPEAKER_02I've seen what he I've seen what he's talking about, but it it came from the same accounts that said Mike Trout was going to the Phillies. But I can see Steph Curry going to Boston.
SPEAKER_01That's true, bro. Apparently he was golfing in Boston Tuesday with Jason Tatum and someone else. I forget. But but it's you know, that maybe they're just friends. It would be fun. But I mean, I I would be fucking fired up. I mean, that's that's the only way you can that's the only way you can salvage this as a self like for the Celtics because what we have right now, we're gonna end up I don't I don't really see us being better than like a sixth seed, and we're gonna play like the Bulls in the play-in game, and I'm gonna fucking blow my brains out. It's just gonna be it just sounds awesome. Like we're gonna be we were set up to just be at least a top three team in the East for at least the next five years with those two guys, and now it's like what happened? What what happened? I feel like I don't have any legs anymore.
SPEAKER_00Trust the process, baby. Last year I was actually mad at y'all at the Celtic. Why? We beat them. That's what that's what I was upset about. We didn't have a challenge.
SPEAKER_01We gave you false hope. We didn't have a channel.
SPEAKER_00No, I'm no no no no. We did not at the very no, I'm gonna tell you hold on, hold on. I'm I'm a six-year fan too. I'm not a Boston fan. My brother's a Boston fan. But at the end of the day, at the end of the day, the reason why I was upset is because to me at the very, very end, I feel as though we did not have a challenge. Tatum was out. Tatum was out, bro. We were down three to one talking about the last day when we won.
SPEAKER_02Oh, you're like Bryce.
SPEAKER_00Oh, Jason Tatum wasn't in, so just that would have been a good game with Jason Tatum in. Even that. I did my bet. Remember, I did a bet. I didn't put Jason Tatum on there. Personal. Yeah, I wanted Jason Tatum on my on my head. But after that, even though Paul George, I mean, yeah, George actually uh trashed my ticket even though, but fuck it anyway. But Tatum at the end of the day, like, it would have been great to see him play. Toss Boston fan.
SPEAKER_01No, I mean, it just shows you, like, you know who would have played in that game if they had a if if they were in that situation and they, you know, their knee was a little iffy, Jalen Brown would have played in that game. Jalen Brown is a fucking man. And Jason Tatum, Jason Tatum is the most talented on the team, but he was not the alpha of that team at all. That was Jalen Brown's team. And it hasn't been for 10 years.
SPEAKER_00Right, but nobody, honestly, me personally, when I talk to a Celtics fan, you're the only one who actually brought that up about Jalen Brown. Nobody ever brought up Jalen Brown. They can't say Jason Tatum, Jason Tim. That's crazy.
SPEAKER_01I mean, Tatum's amazing. Yeah, he's great, but I mean, he's he didn't say he didn't stick up for his boy once this whole offseason. All the rumors, he didn't say, like, hey, maybe, you know, I I love playing with Jalen Brown. It's like, no, it's like I don't know. Just something's off about him that it's like, and you know, maybe he should have won finals MVP over Brown because Brown played really well, but it's because Tatum was the focal point of the defense. I mean, he he he's super talented. But it's like, I don't know, the things that that Brown does, I mean, you see all these advanced analytics that come out now that are anti-Jalen Brown. It's like, actually, he's dog shit. It's like, no, he's no you gotta watch you gotta watch the fucking games and see that this guy's the one talking to his teammates in the huddle. This guy's getting make holding everybody accountable. Tatum's not, Tatum's just focused on winning the MVP.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely agree.
SPEAKER_01I feel there's we switch topics. Jesus Christ. I'm gonna need another beer.
SPEAKER_02That's me, fucking. Modella's getting their working tonight. Well, one thing I do want to say though, I like your chair because it has a T on it. Why? Because of Taiwan. Duh. That's the first time I full named you on here.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, that I didn't even notice that. You had this chair for three years. I didn't even notice that.
SPEAKER_00Or you yeah, T for Thorough.
SPEAKER_01That's a gaming chair, right? It is, yeah. My company, when I I work from home, so my company gave me a $500 allowance when I first started to get whatever I want from my home office, and this thing cost $498. I'm like, are you fucking kidding me? Give me that. And I've been I've been parking in this thing for ever since.
SPEAKER_02He's the man, I told you. Wow. Flexing on with a game chair. I would have bought a PS5, but the chair is nice. Oh, I already had one of those. Did you have to turn in uh your receipt for that?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely. Otherwise, I would be I would have so many OnlyFan subscriptions.
SPEAKER_02Oh, he's hysterical, dude.
SPEAKER_01So you guys got nice mics.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, March Madness Money, baby. I got the most expensive basic mics. Those are nice. I'm gonna have to get a mic.
SPEAKER_01I got the mic that they gave me from full sale back in the day. They gave me like a mic with my like starting thing. And it's just like just a basic, just a basic ass microphone. It's probably fine, but I gotta I gotta find it. I don't really know where it is. It's in like one of two boxes somewhere. I was gonna get it for this, but then the day just flew by. It's like, oh man, I gotta be ready. I gotta be ready mentally more than my microphone.
SPEAKER_02I needed an hour before this to mentally recruit. I got one too. I know how that feel. What I was gonna say with full sale, I lost my train of thought. Someone else go.
SPEAKER_01All right, I'll go. So speaking of full sale, do you remember Evan? You obviously remember Evan. Yeah. Yeah. So Evan and I have stayed close this whole time. Evan is my fucking brother.
SPEAKER_02Well, I was gonna add that was one of my questions for you, too. Yeah. So you've roomed with him, right?
SPEAKER_01So no. Oh yeah. Towards the end, actually, I did. Sorry. But when we were when we were in school, he was living with that girl, Claire. I don't know if you remember Claire.
SPEAKER_02Oh, the blonde girl, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. But him and I, we we've stayed tight. But he is a huge Broncos fan, and I just remember like we've watched so many fun games. Like I remember we watched one game at Your House. I think it was Broncos versus Ravens. I think we watched it at your apartment. It was like the playoffs, and Evan had his big red ass rope, and he was wearing his fucking jersey, and he was just so stressing, and I was I was loving it because I fucking hated the Broncos. But I actually he so he lives in Atlanta now. He works on uh movies and TV shows and stuff. He's yeah, he's crutch with it. He's in he actually he actually does what he went to school to do, which is very rare to find these days. Yeah, seriously. Yeah, now he's crutching me. But I I went last year, I went to surprise him for his birthday, so I like called his wife and I was like, I fucking gotta see my boy. So I flew down, it was like in October, and back in back in the day, we were we were just smoking cigarettes constantly. Like, you know, we would play a game of NHL, we'd look at each other, sig, go out on the porch, have a cig, have a shot, go play NHL. So so we went, so I went down there and I was like, dude, if you know, I'm gonna be here for two and a half days, and he's like, Well, we're gonna just be fucked up for two and a half days, and I'm like, yes, so what we're gonna do is we're gonna we're just gonna buy cigarettes because neither of us smoke anymore. So we bought a pack of parlance. So on the Saturday, we go to this bar, this like really nice bar, just a big bar, and we sit right in the middle. It's probably like six o'clock, and we just start drinking. A couple hours later, we're still there drinking, the bar fills in. We're talking to everybody. We just make so many random friends. The bartenders are fucking cute, like really cute, and I'm flirting with them, I'm flirting with fucking old ladies, everybody. We're just we're all just a vibe. We're buying drinks, bro. We are, and then we're going outside, we're smoking cigarettes. It's like I am fucking King Atlanta tonight.
SPEAKER_00Sound like me.
SPEAKER_01It was like around 11 o'clock, I went outside for another cigarette. And again, I hadn't smoked in Madhlong, but I was like, I was talking to some girl, and then I took a drag, and then in the middle of my sentence, I started whispering.
SPEAKER_03Oh
SPEAKER_01I lost my voice. I lost my voice and I couldn't talk for two days.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god.
SPEAKER_01I just I was I was just dead. My voice was was dead. So and then dude, the bartender comes out and she's like, you might want to go check on your buddy. He's falling asleep on the bar. So I'm like, okay, I'll go right in. She's like, what? Like, I'll be right there. When we close out the tab, I'm fucking all these people are like, hey, take your buddy home. And I'm like, bye.
SPEAKER_00See you guys.
SPEAKER_01Bye. It was like, I was, it was so fucking inconvenient because that was Saturday. And on the Sunday, we were gonna watch football all day. I mean, we did, but Broncos played at one, they played the Eagles. Do you remember that game? Birds. Broncos Broncos. That game was crazy. So he was riding high from that game. He was riding a high from that game. And then Sunday night was Patriots Bills, and we beat the Bills. So that was a good game. But the whole day, I couldn't fucking talk. I had to whisper the entire time, man. And it was just it was so frustrating. Were you trying to talk? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like as loud as you could, like yell.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Yeah. And it was it was like awful. So never smoke parlance.
SPEAKER_02No, that's not but that happened to me at the big smile. I lost my voice in the middle of the shift. And I couldn't talk to people. And I was yelling as loud as I could. Was that one day shift or nice day shift? Do I remember that? I don't know. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Probably in the middle of the shift.
SPEAKER_02Literally in the middle of the shift. And then the next morning I had to give the talk to everyone before the shift started. And I put on the board, we asked that you please bear with JJ. You remember that, dude. And I was literally yelling at people, and they're like, the more you talk, the worse it's gonna get. And I was like, what am I supposed to do? Yeah, it's inconvenient. But yeah, parliaments weren't the root cause of that one.
SPEAKER_01I did uh so in June I turned 36, and I had I haven't smoked since college, you know, 10 years ago. So when I when I was 36, is my 36th birthday. I'm like, I turned 18 twice. I'm gonna go buy a pack of cigarettes. And I bought one every two days since then. But I do it responsibly. I do it responsibly. You know, I don't do it in front of my son, I do it behind him. So uh but man, nothing beats a nothing beats a nice drunk sig. What's going on with this Zoom meeting? We got nine minutes left? Yeah, nine minutes left. Do we have to re-up?
SPEAKER_02No, but we got we it's we're about to be in an hour right now, and he's gotta go anyway. So you're gonna be you're gonna be a monthly guest, honestly. Oh yeah, most definitely. Like you know what you're doing right now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, before we go though, I I want to give you my top five uh favorite Philly sports moments, if you'll if you'll indulge me.
SPEAKER_02But I I remember what I was gonna say earlier.
SPEAKER_01Oh, go for it.
SPEAKER_02With with everything, so he was telling me how he was gonna use his MacBook that he got at full sale 15 years ago. He still uses that thing. So moving forward, he is so fired up and inspired by our podcast and all this. Literally put himself a loot a new MacBook today.
SPEAKER_01Hey MacBook Pro.
SPEAKER_02Hours before that.
SPEAKER_01You got you guys look fucking great on this, by the way. I charged it up about an hour before we started. So I was kind of like frantically trying to figure out Zoom and Garage Band. It's a lot. Yeah, it was very daunting, but these are my top five Philly sports moments, if you'll if you'll go. Let's go. Alright, so at number five, 1998, we have Philadelphia Eagles. They are so fucking bad, right? That they hire a literal garbage man to play kicker for them. Which is absolutely insane. So this guy, Barney Gorman, right? He misses a fucking field goal to win a game. The whole team hates him. He's an alcoholic, his wife and his kid fucking hate him. He's just down in the dumps, right? But he gets one last opportunity before the end of the season to redeem himself. So he it's the last game of the season. He's got they're down by maybe two, whatever it was. He goes to kick the field goal, the holder fumbles it. Idiot. But who picks it up? Barney Gorman. He runs it in and he scores the game-winning touchdown. And it's just it's electric. And that was really cool.
SPEAKER_02So that's stupid knowledge from a Boston fan to know that. And put that in that's incredible.
SPEAKER_01Wait, you never seen the uh garbage kicking, field goal kicking Philadelphia?
SPEAKER_00I know who I no, I know who Barney is. No, I'm I hear people talking about people talking about that, but I never knew who Doug was.
SPEAKER_01No, it was it was a movie starring Tony Danza.
SPEAKER_02Oh wow. Wait, what? Uh did you just fucking wait?
SPEAKER_01Well, that's it happened in the movie. It's not a real thing.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, dude. We got a fucking clown.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, a little bit. Wow.
SPEAKER_02I'm thinking, like, what the fuck does this guy know?
SPEAKER_01All right, so number number four, we're gonna go back to my son's first birthday party. This is May 5th, 2018. It's the playoffs, and it's the Celtics versus the 76ers. Marco Bellinelli kits game winning three. Oh my god. Game winning three. Confetti comes down. Oh my god, you guys won. But wait. It wasn't a three, it was a two. And we went to overtime and we beat your fucking ass. Number three. Number one is gonna be Kwila and it's balanced here. We gotta end this quick. Uh number number three, you know, I gotta give it to Will Smith for avenging his wife by slapping the shit out of Chris Rock. Will Smith, he's from Philly, you know. I gotta give that props. That was a great, that was a that was a great open hand slap.
SPEAKER_00That was great, yes.
SPEAKER_01Number two, so let me take you back to 1985.
SPEAKER_02So just that a song.
SPEAKER_01Just an underdog boxer from Philadelphia, Rocky Balboa. He goes, you know, he he loses his championship, but then he gets it back, right? And all of a sudden, this guy Ivan Drago, this fucking Russian guy, challenges him. So what does he do? He's like, all right, well, I'll fight you an exhibition. But he didn't they didn't fight an exhibition. He fought Apollo Creed, who was Rocky's, you know, trainer, former rival, best friend. He kills Apollo Creed. Rocky's like, has to fight this guy. This guy is an absolute beast. So what he does is he flies to Russia to fight him. He's like, I'll fight you anywhere, motherfucker. He goes to Russia, fights Ivan Drago, beats Ivan Drago, turns the entire Russian crowd into Rocky fans. They're all chanting Rocky. So here's what happened. Let me tie this into my life. So I had I had the the VHS. My dad had the VHS of that movie. So him and my him and my mom were going through like a divorce. They were like separating. So he's like, Derek, when your mom wakes up, just press play on the TV. So she woke up, I opened the TV, I press play, and it's the last scene of Rocky IV. He beats Ivan Drago, and he's got the microphone, he looks at the crowd, and he's like, if I can change and you can change, anybody can change. And I'm like, oh my god, that stuck with me for my whole life. I mean, they did get divorced, so it didn't fucking work, but it was still a pretty cool, pretty, pretty cool try. Um last one, I'll be quick. Uh February 5th, 2005. Eagles, yeah, Eagles have a chance to really to really stop the dynasty from beginning. But you know, Donovan McNan has to go and puke all over himself. Patriots win the third Super Bowl against the Eagles. I can relate. So those are off the top of my head, those are my top five Philly sports moments. I will say I really enjoyed you guys beating the Rays in the uh World Series because fuck the Rays. Anything AL East, fucked all of them. So I I'll give you that. And yeah, I can't believe you guys got LeBron and fucking Jalen Brown.
SPEAKER_02So that's where I'm at. We're thriving over here. So let me just end this real quick and give you our top moment. 40 to 32, Eagles beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl. We out. Alright, we just we just got his ass, dude. Get the fuck out of here. That was actually good. He knows what he's doing. Yeah. Like he he was legit. So he might have to be a monthly guest just to check in on Jalen and Aja. Ten twenty minutes here and there. Okay, we know. As long as you have clear eyes, full heart, and
