For years now, every Thursday, two best friends who find themselves often so in sync they've dubbed the phenomena "Mind Twins" watch movies. Alternating on who picks the movie on a weekly basis, this duo continues on their quest to enthuse about movies in their rambling and unfocused podcast. Because why not?

The Rom-Com series concludes this movie night with The Wedding Date (2005) from Clare Kilner! Kat Ellis (Debra Messing) is invited to her sister's wedding in England where her ex and family will be. To avoid any embarrassment of travelling alone and to make her ex jealous she hires a male escort, Nick Mercer, (Dermot Mulroney) to be her wedding date.

SPEAKER_06

Hello folks. I've been dragged uh here in the back of a van with a hood on my head and tossed down in the basement. There's a lot of doll heads over there. And uh what what's this podcast that you're now forcing me to record too? Sandwiches? Is it okay if I go with that one?

SPEAKER_05

I mean that it it works. I'm Lotico.

SPEAKER_06

I'm JD.

SPEAKER_05

And I it's our last movie for rom-com month.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_05

Which means it's my final pick. Um I'm picking a movie I have not seen since high school.

SPEAKER_06

Schindler's List.

SPEAKER_05

Another one. Yeah, close. Um, The Wedding Date.

SPEAKER_06

Oh. Now I feel foolish.

SPEAKER_05

I haven't seen it since high school. I remember liking it. I said the same thing about P.S. I Love You, and it turns out I still very much like it. So hopefully this movie it'll be the same kind of outcome. I do remember this one being more on the comedy side. Then the tears and the tears side. So this one should be a bit more lighthearted. Less dead people.

SPEAKER_06

Less dead people, hopefully, but how much do we end up with Jeffrey Dean Morgan asses?

SPEAKER_05

Ah, zero. That's the downside to this movie.

SPEAKER_06

Okay. Alright, alright. I mean, I have to. It's fine.

SPEAKER_05

And away we go.

SPEAKER_06

Uh it should be better than serendipity, which you did not like that much.

SPEAKER_05

No, it wasn't my it wasn't my cup of tea. But I also get it if people do like it.

SPEAKER_06

It was my tea. I I will drink that shit every day.

SPEAKER_05

If you love rom-coms, then I get it.

SPEAKER_06

Uh yeah, and I am the rom com guy here.

SPEAKER_05

Uh between the two of us.

SPEAKER_06

I am like inject that into my DNA. Like that is that's going right into my veins.

SPEAKER_05

You like the warm, fuzzy, sappy stuff.

SPEAKER_06

Always. Oh my god. And I like Yeah. Well, you did show me Hot Frosty.

SPEAKER_05

I did show you Hot Frosty.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

I I was fooled into that movie. I was told it was a satire. And it might have been a little bit, but I still feel like it definitely was just a Hallmark style Christmas movie.

SPEAKER_06

Who told you that was a uh satire?

SPEAKER_05

Someone on the interwebs. Ah. See, you can't trust them. Yeah, I I learned that lesson. I'm like, this isn't a satire. Like, we're not, it's not the parody of it. This is just it. Uh, action.

SPEAKER_07

I'm not a knuckler. I fly all the time. The reason I can't film my leg any second. My date's gonna sit down with three B. And I need it to look really, really, really, really good today.

SPEAKER_05

Also, how are you gonna hire an escort to be your date for your sister's wedding? What's the sole purpose of making your ex jealous and not really look good?

SPEAKER_06

Hemi Adam, what are you dumb? You've done. Harlot. Oh. Yeah, it's fine with you, Surfer.

SPEAKER_05

Okay. Um Lady.

SPEAKER_06

Oh. End of second act. Why you gotta end of second act so hard? You've made me so aware of the 3X structure of romcom. That was the wedding date. That was so sweet. I love that. Yay! Yeah, that was actually really good. Again, okay. You're playing on a hell of a curve here. Showing me rom com's Montico, but I will say that was really, really sweet.

SPEAKER_05

That was um Uh yeah, I haven't seen that one since high school. I liked it still. I think it holds up. And it's cute.

SPEAKER_06

I was going to ask. More importantly, and the one who's the better judge of uh movies objectively between the two of us when they're rom-coms. Uh yeah, well yeah, what you what did you think?

SPEAKER_05

I think it's cute. Uh it it's it makes more sense than serendipity.

SPEAKER_06

Ah, there it is.

SPEAKER_05

Ah I think it's cute. Yeah. It's adorable. It's charming.

SPEAKER_06

It is. I will say, with the difference between it and serendipity is it doesn't reward the cheater. So Right. Yeah. That's nice.

SPEAKER_05

Right. That's upside. You still get the twist. There's still a twist in there.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Turns out it wasn't Dan Stevens, guys.

SPEAKER_05

It wasn't Dan Stevens. I know.

SPEAKER_06

It just makes me look so stupid in retrospect.

SPEAKER_05

Do you recognize that man? I'm perfect.

SPEAKER_06

Uh that's um, let me see. Wait a second. Show me him again. Zoom in. Enhance.

SPEAKER_03

Look how big.

SPEAKER_06

Am I not the luckiest person? Oh my god, yeah, that's Dan Stevens.

SPEAKER_05

No.

SPEAKER_06

I know.

SPEAKER_05

Like, no.

SPEAKER_06

No, I don't know how that's Stevens.

SPEAKER_05

That's uh the Commodore from the Press of the Caribbean movies.

SPEAKER_04

You know, that's what he gets for not taking dance lessons until two days.

SPEAKER_05

Dan Stevens, it's him? No! Also, I looked it up because I made that comment that Dermich Lorini would be a great voice for Batman. I looked it up to see if he did play Batman at any point. He did not, but he did play the voice of Hal Jordan.

SPEAKER_06

Ah, that makes sense.

SPEAKER_05

And the animated series The Batman.

SPEAKER_06

Okay. So he's technically in a Batman thing.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, he just does not play Batman. He plays Green Lantern.

SPEAKER_06

I mean, that's really cool. He plays, yeah, the Green Lantern, that's fine.

SPEAKER_05

Which I mean, it is a superhero voice, so good job, Drain it.

SPEAKER_06

And Green Lanterns are the coolest you know, I Hal Jordan's not my favorite of the Green Lanterns, not even close, but you know, he's he's great.

SPEAKER_03

He's good. Yeah. I don't know much about the Green Lantern.

SPEAKER_06

John Stewart, I would say. Then maybe Kyle Rayner. So you're like, I don't know much about this, and I'm like, let me name all of them.

SPEAKER_05

I'm like, yeah, but don't never even heard of those names. Not familiar. Well, you know who Guy Garner is. Uh I do. That one I know. I know how. I think that's it.

SPEAKER_06

Jessica Cruz.

SPEAKER_05

Nope.

SPEAKER_06

Simon Baz.

SPEAKER_05

Nope.

SPEAKER_06

Do you know what sector they serve? Uh the human Green Lanterns?

SPEAKER_05

Nope. I know what it looks like. I know he's got a ring. I know there's an awful movie with Ryan Reynolds.

SPEAKER_06

Uh the movie.

SPEAKER_05

That's all I know. Never seen it.

SPEAKER_06

Uh you know the Green Lantern Oath, at least.

SPEAKER_05

Uh no.

SPEAKER_06

And brightest day and darkest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil's might beware my power of Green Lantern's light. I didn't have any friends growing up.

SPEAKER_05

I was like, yeah, no, this is my one. Don't know much about Green Lantern.

SPEAKER_06

Uh, it's kind of my thing, other than like Superman and the Flash.

SPEAKER_05

Uh, but what were your uh first impressions? I'm playing.

SPEAKER_06

Oh. Uh so I really liked it. That goes without saying. I thought it was incredibly sweet. It was very good at playing with formula well, where it lets you feel keyed into what's about to happen. Uh I was able to do should I go through the plot of the wedding date?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Okay. So I will recount the plot of the wedding date. So the wedding date is about Kat, she's just your doubt on your luck, non-Green Lantern kind of lady. I'm gonna stop bringing Green Lantern. That's gonna be annoying to edit around. No, uh she yeah, she's in New York, and then she pays $6,000 for a guy that she sees on a magazine? Was that did they have magazines for that?

SPEAKER_05

Well, he so he wrote an article about his experience of being an escort.

SPEAKER_06

And it was on a magazine, though, right?

SPEAKER_05

It was in a magazine.

SPEAKER_06

Hmm. So yeah, and then she pays them $6,000. The amount isn't very important, but I I'm going to keep repeating it. To go to uh it's a lot of money. Uh to go to London. Now, when they f before they leave for Heathrow Airport, though, let me just specify they don't know who they are at all. They haven't met each other. She doesn't know what he looks like. Uh she even has a line like, oh, I just hope he's handsome or something. And before they go there, though, something really unrealistic happens where she uh is saying it's 15 minutes until my flight. No way is it 15 minutes before flight. She's bags at that point. You're not making I don't care. And there's there's a few airports in New York, so I'm not certain which airport uh it was, but if I had to assume, because it's probably probably going to be LaGuardia, there's no way either of them you're getting there. I don't care what year it is. It could be 19, like, I don't know, what year did they invent flight? Like 1914? Sure. The Wright brothers could be right outside your building into their your flight, 15 minutes outside. No, craziness. But anyway, so then uh she gets on the flight though, and she uh achieves this feat. And then uh on there she's ends up seeing the guy, and he is a very, very foxy guy. Do what? What's the name of the actor again?

SPEAKER_05

Uh Dremet Mulroney.

SPEAKER_06

Mulrooney, I was like told. Dremet Mulrooney and uh Mulroney.

SPEAKER_05

Mulroney? Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

He is particular wedding date. So she sees him and she's like, oh, okay, he's great. Yep. Uh when she sees him, uh they're like, oh, okay, great. And then she uh she and him go and meet the parents, and uh he's very dashing and awesome, and he remains perfect throughout the whole thing. You know, fall for each other. She sees that she's he makes her uh ex oh I should specify they're going to England because of her sister's wedding, her little sister, half sister, her mom remarried, her sister's played by Amy Adams. Uh the ex that she's trying to make jealous is the best man of her little sister's groom. I got that right.

SPEAKER_05

Sounds um yeah. Yes, he is the best friend slash best man of the groom.

SPEAKER_06

Of the groom, who yeah, uh, who is marrying her her little sister. Uh she's making uh the ex jealous and the titular wedding date, he goes to the bachelor party, and there the ex continues to suck. And you get more screen time with the groom, who is the sweetest guy on earth, played by not Dan Stevens, unfortunately. What is the actor's actual name? Do you know that?

SPEAKER_05

No. Let me look it up though.

SPEAKER_06

Okay. Uh for the listener, I, as a joke, said Dan Stevens, and I keep doing it throughout the whole movie.

SPEAKER_05

Jack Davenport.

SPEAKER_06

Jack Davenport. Okay, so the groom played by Jack Davenport, and he's the sweetest guy, who I will continue to call Dan Stevens throughout the whole thing, so don't get confused confused. Uh she comes back from her bachelor's party, she gets very drunk there. Uh, she ends up stopping by an ATM and getting out a whole bunch of money. And when she comes back, she ends up sleeping with the titular wedding date. And then it's really sweet and romantic, but then she claims she doesn't remember what happened. The guy ends up seeing, uh oh, there's a whole bunch of money in her purse. She was going to try to pay me. Uh, which she says earlier in the movie that he only charges uh in advance, and that it was actually a romantic thing for them. So then, uh no, they're all confused. And then they go off to the countryside for the wedding.

SPEAKER_07

Oh wow. That's a big bed. I've been spilling my guts all weekend and I don't know anything about you.

SPEAKER_01

I'm allergic to fabric softener. And I majored in comparative literature at Brown. I hate anchovies. I think I'd miss you even if we'd never met.

SPEAKER_05

Damn it, baby. I wasn't ready. That was good. It's like, okay, I guess I want to get married. Like, oh night. Let me just make some phone calls.

SPEAKER_06

And while at the wedding, the day before, kind of doing English things in the countryside, he asks our lead uh character, Kat, her stepdad, to go uh if he can date his daughter. He's like, it won't make any sense, but can I date your daughter? And he's like, Oh, aren't you already dating her? Ha ha ha. Yeah, it's all sweet. And then uh they're all doing a great time, and then they're like, hey, can you go check on Amy Adams' character? They say that in the movie, I was really confused by it. And then he goes to the little boathouse to check on Amy Adams' character, but plot twist. There's the asshole, the ex there, and he apparently had a thing with Amy Adams, who again the groom is his best friend, which you assume was the best man thing. So no, it's he's his scumbag. And then uh afterwards he doesn't tell uh Kat right away, and then ends up being a situation where the ex comes up then to Kat later in another scene. Kat thinks that it's going to be about like him saying, Oh, I'm super into you. But they're wrong because he's like, Oh, by the way, your sister's hella fine. She's pretty foxy. She's upset, and then Amy Adams is like, Oh no, I can't believe you told them the wedding date. And uh Termit is like, What? And then uh they're all upset, it's a whole thing, because of course he didn't tell her, and then she goes running off into the fields, he goes chasing after her, lace down some sick burns, and and then uh after that they uh they part ways and he's gonna leave. And while he's gonna leave, then she's talking to her sister, and she's like, Okay, I won't spoil this for you, but you gotta tell him because when are you gonna tell him? It's all about timing, blah, blah, blah. Uh, like basically, Amy Ms. You suck. He cheated on perfect not Dan Stevens, and you suck. Uh, so then uh Dan Stev, not Dan Stevens, is uh right before his wedding, he's there, it's all sad because the wedding date's driving away. He left the money in an envelope. He's like, Don't worry, it's all there. Uh it's written on the envelope. And he's driving away, and then Kat is all sad, and the dad sits down and gives a great speech to his daughter.

SPEAKER_07

It's complicated, Dad. Ah, right.

SPEAKER_00

It probably wouldn't have worked out anyway, huh? I remember reading a fascinating article in the New York Times magazine once. Where this guy said, every woman has the exact love life she wants. You know what? I agree with him. But I refuse to believe that this is what you want, Kat. Ever since you were a little kid, you've always worried about what other people think. Now come on, what do you think? Is he the guy for you?

SPEAKER_06

The dad did the great speech. I love it. Ah, God. Something about dads giving good speeches. While that's happening, Amy Adams tells not Dan Stevens, her betrothed, that she cheated on him with his best man. And then he chases him out of the church and goes chasing him through the fields. But the wedding date turned around in his car, and he's driving back because he's like, ah shit, so we should be together. And then when they're driving back, he sees him chasing him off and he's like, ah, don't worry about him. He sucks, which is true. And then they uh he talks him back into the wedding, and then he goes running back to get married, and then he makes him the best man, though, and he uh reconciles the cat and they all live happily ever after. How do I do? That was pretty good.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, yeah, that was pretty good.

SPEAKER_06

All right, thank you.

SPEAKER_05

All right, and then I have questions.

SPEAKER_06

Oh shit. I didn't prepare for the quiz. Okay.

SPEAKER_05

I know. Well, with this being a rom-com, what scene or moment in the movie did you think is the most romantic?

SPEAKER_06

There's a few really good ones, but I actually think for me, the one that did it the most for me would be when they're dancing together and they're kind of angry with each other because she just pretended not to know of him. And I again there's a few scenes I could say. Like there's when he makes her coffee, when he opens the door for her, or that, but I think the one that illustrates the best is when they're dancing because they're both kind of expressing that they're upset with each other. She stomps on his foot, he acts like he's gonna drop her or like trip her. But then the way that they laugh together afterwards is really sweet, and it ties back into I think the theme for them, which is his statement of, I'd rather be fighting with you than uh loving someone else.

SPEAKER_05

So is it that's such a good line? That was actually my next question was which line do you think was the best like rom-com line?

SPEAKER_06

I think it I think that's it. I think uh it's it's up there. I mean, there's he says so many.

SPEAKER_05

I think my favorite was the I think I'd miss you if even if I never met you. So I'm like, oh so sweet.

SPEAKER_06

He says a lot of really sweet things. I think he's got some great lines. I think the theme of their dynamic is that the uh I'd rather be here fighting with you than loving someone else.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. What did you think about the the two main characters or their chemistry?

SPEAKER_06

Okay, they had amazing chemistry. I think the way they played being kind of playfully annoyed at each other to actually annoyed to then being like they actually the way they had locked eyes, I I and the laugh together. I thought they had great chemistry. It really worked for me.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_06

What about you?

SPEAKER_05

I felt like it was a little um is rushed the right word. Okay. Rush. A little rushed. In my opinion, although it's a short movie, it's like an hour and half. Um and they're two people that don't know each other but now they have to fall in love. So to me it was a bit rushed. Because I when I saw it in high school, like I remembered that they slept with each other at some point. But watching it now, I'm like, that happened really early in the movie than I remember. Like that was fast.

SPEAKER_06

That's true. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Which is fine. But it it wasn't like it was just uh we're gonna sleep with each other because we're both horny, kind of a thing. Like I think the implication of that there was supposed to be a connection because the next morning he thinks that they had a moment and that's why he went and got her coffee. So I was like, Oh yeah, that that happened real quick. So it's a little to me it's a little rash, but I don't think it ruins anything. I think after that moment that the chemistry spot on.

SPEAKER_06

That's fair. I think uh when it comes to 90-minute rom coms, I'm also like really not to say adapted, but I think I'm really I'd I ask less questions of the characters. Uh I'm very familiar with the genre, so it's not I'm ready, like I've got the hitch ready to go. Just get me a wagon that's moving kind of thing. Um so at that point. Like I'm I'm yes ending it with everything, so I'm I'm a pretty easy sell when it comes to like do they have chemistry?

SPEAKER_05

I was just shocked at I just like oh that happened fast.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, it did happen fast.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, but other than that, I thought they were fine.

SPEAKER_06

Um again, they were like the movie is um I bet like 90 minutes. I didn't time it, but it the most romance are 90.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

They it I will say it's better than like Jar Butler and uh I can't remember the actor's name, uh, who played Christine in uh Phantom of the Opera, though, where uh the shoe the Schumacher one where they had no chemistry, and I was every time they're on screen, they're like, why are they on screen?

SPEAKER_05

Oh crap. What is her name? I don't know her name. Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Uh I mean Minnie Driver is perfect in that movie. Don't like she's perfection, but that's about it. Her and Patrick Wilson are the only reason why I sit through the movie.

SPEAKER_05

I love Patrick Wilson.

SPEAKER_06

I love him in everything he's in.

SPEAKER_05

Everything he touches is gold. Golding Midas. Uh I can't remember. I can't remember the actress's name, but yeah, they had zero chemistry.

SPEAKER_06

Uh it didn't. But for them, yeah, I was very on board. And I guess it's also they did some work with that where there's a scene where he uh where she's like, oh, just you know, try to like, you know, do for me what you do to the other girls, like kiss me like those other girls.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, yeah, that was a good one.

SPEAKER_06

With the way he doesn't kiss her, but that like really seduces her with that. I think that did a lot of for me the heavy lifting when it comes to intimacy for them, where it felt uh applicable.

SPEAKER_05

To add to that, the way he did it though was simply building her up, which I also thought was really nice.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Show me holding me back. I think it's the word morally repugnant.

SPEAKER_07

Show me.

SPEAKER_01

Close your eyes. Close your eyes. Close your eyes. You're safe. You can relax. I'm not gonna kiss you. He's gonna be so sorry he lost you. So stop worrying. Forget the past. Yeah, he's a warlock. Forget the pain.

SPEAKER_06

And making sure she felt safe and everything. So for me, that scene did so much work that uh that and like you know, making her ex jealous, things like that. Right. So Jeffrey. But again, I'm an easy sell.

SPEAKER_05

I'm an easy cell. Um I I liked the switcheroonie because if you it's not exactly the same, but they're similar themes. If we compare it to Pretty Woman. We've got um Obala, male who needs a date, so he hires a prostitute, blah di blah di blah. So which means he holds all the power, and then in the end he's the literal white knight. In the end. And this one kind of flips it a bit, because it is usually gonna be in the man that kind of pursues the woman, and then this one that's a woman pursuing a man, hiring him, but they do the falling and love thing around the same time, and it's it's not a power play.

SPEAKER_06

Right. Yeah. I that's a good point, yeah. But I'm trying to think, I I don't think there is really a power dynamic between them like that. She initiates everything too, but he gives his consent to everything, and I it doesn't really it doesn't feel icky.

SPEAKER_05

It doesn't, no. Every woman feels icky. Like I love the movie. It's it's I like it a lot. But it gets a little icky.

SPEAKER_06

There's good there's really like a there's really good scenes in it, but there are some scenes where I'm like, oh, that just does not do it for me.

SPEAKER_05

You're just being a dick for like you know the scene, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

That I know it's the exact scene you're talking about. The scene. The scene. Yeah, the scene.

SPEAKER_05

That scene.

SPEAKER_06

He's so mean to her.

SPEAKER_05

So mean.

SPEAKER_06

I can't even like, oh my god. Hell, we kind of joke about that, but like the scene we joke about uh is so much less than that. Where uh for the listener, uh we sometimes choke to each other say it's like the Moolan Rue scene um where uh you and McGregor. Yeah, it goes up to oh what's her name? Um Nicole Kidman. Nicole Kidman, uh yeah, her character in front of everyone, it says the shows of money on the ground.

SPEAKER_05

I paid my whore.

SPEAKER_06

And if we we say that all the time, but like basically that's the like it's like that, but worse.

SPEAKER_05

It's so much worse.

SPEAKER_06

Oh my god. I love I love her to career and things. I'm like, that this is this is painful to watch.

SPEAKER_05

It is, and the only saving grace really is the fact that they have dynamite chemistry.

SPEAKER_06

It is the chemistry movie, yeah. Yeah, they do really. But anyway, um I think that's a natural analog to view it with that uh because the movies are so similar, but this one doesn't have the icky power dynamics, you're right.

SPEAKER_05

And it's not, yeah, it's not icky.

SPEAKER_06

I think it it makes sense too, where like the the scenes where she over brings up how much, you know, it's like, oh, because you're a sex worker to him a lot. Uh or he's like, you're totally killing the mood, lady.

SPEAKER_05

I'm well aware of my occupation, thank you.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Um I'm more than just a piece of meat. I'm five.

SPEAKER_06

Five piece, uh approximately five. And a tight sweater.

SPEAKER_05

Uh and then uh final question. Can you guess the Rotten Tomato score?

SPEAKER_06

Okay, Raw and Tomatoes is uh let me just That's a tricky one. I'm gonna preface this. Can I may I preface this?

SPEAKER_05

Yes.

SPEAKER_06

Rotten Tomatoes is really mean to the movies I like sometimes in the Ron films. So I'm gonna guess low. Not because I think the movie's low, but I have experience with the movies I like and Ron Tomatoes is like, hey, that's a dumb movie and you should feel bad. Because it does not like rom comms. There's just, I don't know what it is. Like, I can't explain why. IMDB or like Lairbox or things like that will like have movies at like, you know, seven or six or some things like that. They'll be like Ron Demands is like five percent. I'm like, holy shit. Okay. So I'm gonna I'm gonna guess, and yeah, and I don't need to be vindicated, but like, you know, you can everyone has different opinions, but like um I I will say Ron Demands is a little bit more extreme. So I'm gonna guess if I had to put it in Ron Demand score, I'm gonna say 34%.

SPEAKER_05

It got 11%.

SPEAKER_06

What? That's even meaner than mine. Seriously?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, it got 11%. What? Uh critics called it bland and lightweight.

SPEAKER_06

Okay, but bland, what do you think would be like 40 or 50%?

SPEAKER_05

It got 11, which surprised the dickens out of me. He certainly did, but he got like 50 or something, whatever. I was like, really? Well, I need only got eleven? I like it.

SPEAKER_06

11's like for an incomplete movie. That's crazy.

SPEAKER_05

I know, right? Um that was cute. Yeah, I disagree with Auntamia score as someone who does not like rom coms. This one's cute.

SPEAKER_06

What what's it in the Mariko score?

SPEAKER_05

Like the rating? Oh.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

I give it five out of five Dermot Mulroney butts. Going with the theme here.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, this is a theme for us.

SPEAKER_05

For rom coms, five out of five German Mulroney butts.

SPEAKER_06

Uh, I agree, actually. That would be my writing too. It's five oh five Dermot McR uh Dermot Mulroney, I'm sorry, actor. Uh Dermot Mulroney butts. He uh does have a great butt, and the movie deserves five of them because it does what it sets out to do, I think, really well. I think it achieves it.

SPEAKER_03

The scenes are all the score is good.

SPEAKER_06

It's got a good score. The scenes are all functional, the lighting is really nice in them. And uh it's uh it's a pretty well-made movie that is edited, I think, well, and I think it works perfectly, and it made me tear it off. Because everything does no, but yeah, it's it's it gets the job done, it's cute, it makes you go, awww a lot.

SPEAKER_05

Um even if you don't really like rom-coms that much, I don't think you'll hate yourself.

SPEAKER_06

It's far worse.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, like this this is pretty standard. It's cute.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, me too. Yep, me too.

SPEAKER_05

That's what I'm looking for. I'm looking for cute.

SPEAKER_06

I'm looking for cute too. But again, the mom really needs to chill.

SPEAKER_05

She is firing off. Well, yeah, the first half it's really just the one speech. She needs a chill.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Have two less drinks. I think by the time she tears into Jeffrey, that's that's a good amount of drinks she had right there. That's she should have stayed there for the wedding speech.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I think everyone should have I should oh that guy. Oh, that guy may be angry.

SPEAKER_05

That's the thing. Oh, there's an account. That's my only complaint, really. What's up? What's wrong with that family? Everyone keeps bringing up painful memories to Kat, to her face. It's not like they're talking behind her back, like, oh remember when you were engaged last year and Annie broke up with you and shattered your heart. Yeah. Do you remember? Can you believe it? He's here. Oh you must be just so upset. And so it's like, yeah, thank you. Thank you for bringing that up.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it's it's it's pretty rough. There I don't think I could have the self-esteem to survive that family.

SPEAKER_05

No. People kept bringing it up. Then turns out people in the family knew about the affair and didn't say anything. That's wild. Oh, Jeffrey just told you. Excuse me? You knew? Everyone knew. So everyone knows except for me. Everyone knew my relationship was over before I did. Cool, great, not embarrassing.

SPEAKER_06

Oh my god. And with her sister, that's insane.

SPEAKER_05

I think that would be it. Because you can you can keep it. You can keep the fact that the sister slept with Jeffrey. You can keep it. That's fine. You didn't have to, you know, reveal that the whole family knew. Like, what did that add?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, it said nothing. Well, it added for her to be like, you know, to everyone, oh, you guys all betrayed me, and then it turns out, you know, the titular wedding date knew too.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, but she still would have reacted that way regardless.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, no, I it doesn't I you're right. I don't know.

SPEAKER_05

Like you didn't need to have the whole yeah, the whole family knew. Yeah, they just lied to you for an entire year. And it wouldn't have and it didn't make a difference because she went to the wedding anyway. So it wasn't like, yeah, I'm not gonna go anymore because my family sucks. No, she still went to the wedding. She still pretended everything was okay. I think they were trying to justify it with the dad talking to her because he mentioned that all she ever since she was little, she just cared about what everyone else thought of her. So I think that's how they were kind of trying to make it work. Yeah. But it just I don't I don't think it really I don't think it worked too well. So I think that's my only complaint about the movie that family didn't have to do be involved in the affair.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, you're right, actually, that because it does add nothing and it just makes them complicit in a way.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, it just makes them assholes. And they're like, well, this family kind of sucks. And then you kind of judge her a little bit. Why are you still going to the wedding? Oh, I'd get on the next plane. That's impossible.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I would question a lot of the people who just sit there and would l watch uh not Dan Stevens almost get married or married without knowing that his best friend.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Uh it was yeah, it was a sweet movie.

SPEAKER_06

It was a really sweet one. Yeah, I would recommend.

SPEAKER_05

Hooray! rom-com month.

SPEAKER_06

And that's that finishes our rom-com segment. Our first ever thing where we watch four movies of the same category.

SPEAKER_03

Woo!

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Which is crazy because I would never have suspected us doing rom-coms with you being like, yeah, okay, I can do this.

SPEAKER_05

I'm like, I'll f I'll figure something out. I'll look through the history and see what rom-coms I've liked before. No, you put great ones. Yeah. Um they both were ones I watched in high school.

SPEAKER_06

From one friend.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I had to well, P.S. I love you, I saw my own. Oh. Uh I think yeah, I'm pretty sure Mackenzie was the one that introduced me to the wedding date. I'm like, you know what? That one was cute. I'm not even mad about this. That's good. It was cute.

SPEAKER_06

Thank you, McKenzie.

SPEAKER_05

Thank you, Mackenzie.

SPEAKER_06

Uh anyway, yeah. Uh well, in that case, I we're back to our normal things, which are not these. It they're things like Wishapon or actually good horror movies, although I don't actually know what I'm going to pick. So that's gonna be a surprise.

SPEAKER_05

But be a surprise. Is it gonna be uh Mortal Kombat Annihilation?

SPEAKER_06

It's definitely okay. I can confirm it will not be Mortal Kombat Annihilation. That's Shucky Darn. Please don't make me watch that. No, do you can do whatever you want. You're fine.

SPEAKER_05

Anything I want.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, you're fine.

SPEAKER_05

It'll be a surprise.

SPEAKER_06

Anyway. Yeah, I know it will. I know. Coming up to me like JOS 3.

SPEAKER_03

The revenge.

SPEAKER_06

Is Jaws 3 the revenge, or is that Joss 4?

SPEAKER_04

That's four.

SPEAKER_06

Hey, look at that. That's anyway. Uh but yeah, thanks for listening, folks. Uh, do you have a written ending thing yet? Because you said you're gonna work on that.

SPEAKER_05

I'm gonna say that. Um I said I would, and then I didn't.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, okay, cool. So we don't win. That's fine.

SPEAKER_04

Um thanks for watching with us.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, thanks for watching for with us, for us, and because of us. And don't forget to do the dishes. And tip your wedding dates.
