Hey explorers, welcome to Animal Rescue Adventures, the show where we meet amazing animals and become heroes for them too. I'm Steph, and today we're going on a rescue mission. Today we're visiting a very special animal named Sierra at the Wolf Haven International in Washington. Can you guess what kind of animal she is? You got it, Sierra is a wolf. Let's learn a few cool things about wolves. Wolves live in families called packs, and each pack works together like a team. Wolves talk to each other by howling, but also by using body language like tail positions and ear movements. A wolf's howl can be heard from up to 6 to 10 miles away in the wilds. Wolves are great parents. They take care of their pups and even bring them food. Wolves can run very fast, up to about 35 miles per hour when chasing prey. They have super strong noses and can smell things from really far away. Wolves don't just hunt, they also play, especially as pups, which helps them learn skills. A wolf's eyes can look yellow, amber, or even blue. But Sierra didn't always thrive as a wolf. Sierra was born in a place where animals are bought and sold as pets. When she was three years old, she escaped from her home and wandered through the busy neighborhood of the Hollywood Hills in California. Kind rescuers found Sierra and brought her to a safe place to care for her. But Sierra loved to explore and was very good at escaping, which made it hard to keep her safe in a regular home. So then what happened? Now Sierra has a forever home at Wolfhaven. She lives in a big, peaceful space that looks out over the prairie, and she shares it with her wolf friend, Mesa. Trivia time. What is a group of wolves called? A pack. How do wolves communicate over long distances? By howling. About how fast can a wolf run up to? 35 miles per hour. What do wolves use their playtime for when they are young? Learning skills. Alright, explorers, here's your mission today. You can help wolves like Sierra by learning and educating. You can teach others that wolves are not big or bad monsters, but they're essential to our ecosystem. You can join initiatives like the Species Unite program to send letters to the Department of the Interior requesting protections for wolves. You can support conservation organizations like symbolically adopting a wolf through organizations like the Wolf Conservation Center, which helps fund the care of endangered species. At school or another organization, you can host big sales or have challenges to raise money for wolf sanctuaries. You can watch live camera footage of endangered red wolves and Mexican gray wolves to learn more about their behavior and share this awareness. Every small action makes a big difference.
