In this episode, Rosie tells us a folkloric story that she invented about why foxes are the size that they are today.
Hello, my name's Rosie.
SPEAKER_01This is Johnny, and this is Imagine This.
SPEAKER_00And I'm gonna be telling the story this time. Um called Why the Fox is So Small. Um the air. So once what um Daddy, imagine this. Before before humans were alive or even made or even existed, the fox was a bit smaller than an elephant. So would that would mean he could eat any animal he wanted, even sometimes an elephant itself. One day he the animals grew tired of him eating all their beloved friends and family. So they hatched up the plan. The tiger was going to tell Fox that he should stop going to eat the people the animals from the forest and instead go to another place to eat. The f the tiger was very, very, very, very, very smart, so he she had a very good idea. Her idea was she would tell the fox to go to the farm. So the next day the tiger said Fox, go in the farm and you can have as many chickens or animals as you want. See, Tiger had already been in the farm because the farm was run by elephants. I know, very strange, but elephants and monkeys were the closest to being human. And remember this is still a story, so no, elephants aren't close to being humans.
SPEAKER_01That's a good point you make, Rosie. Very good.
SPEAKER_00Um and uh the elephants and monkeys liked tiger, so he was very close friends and went to visit the farm often. So he w she was scared that elephants and monkeys weren't going to be happy when he told them that it was her idea to um let fox eat their chickens. But Fox didn't really care, so he went to the chicken pen and said, Wow, these are lots of chickens. There are about millions of them and hatched a plan um to get the chickens to come out so he could eat them. Um then his plan was to get tell the chickens that they should go out and there was lots of yummy seeds out. One of the chickens was Zelda, but the but the fox did not know that um Zelda was actually the Morgan. Pause that the story, but if for those of you who don't know who the Morgan is, it's a shape-shifting goddess that were in Celtic um uh nations.
SPEAKER_01So this is Celtic, is this Irish?
SPEAKER_00Um I think it might be Scottish. Okay, Scottish or Irish.
SPEAKER_01Okay, it makes sense.
SPEAKER_00Yes. So back to the story. Um he didn't know that she was a powerful goddess. So he um he said to the chickens once again, come out, there are loads of yummy seeds to eat. The the chickens were did fall fell for it at first and said, Okay, every anything for seeds. But Zelda, the powerful goddess, said in chicken language, of course, know that he is trying to eat you. Stay inside. The chickens squawked a lot and went to their eggs to protect them. The then the the fox kept going um every week every day for a week. Despite his size, he didn't have a very big brain. So the he for a week he didn't realize he could just find the key and open the pen. He found the key one day uh under a under a flower pot and opened the the cage. The cage was very big, um as big as uh as big as a two-storey building because elephant sometimes went goes in and feeds the chickens. He couldn't fit in a tiny pen that we have today. So when he went when he went um inside the morrigan, otherwise known as Zelda, um told him that started to grow and grow and grow and grow until she got the size of a human. Um and she said the fox said, Oh mighty Morrigan, what do you want from me? I've not done anything bad. The Morrigan said, Are you sure about that? Because I've heard and seen many complaints of the animals from the forest that you've been eating their families and friends. You will have the biggest consequence that you've ever had, the fox said. Um as big as when my mum told me that I couldn't I could only eat uh little tiny birds the rest of my life. But she didn't really mean it and I thought she meant it because I was four? No, way bigger than that. You will be forced to be as small as a dog. And that would mean you could only eat one animal per day. The fox gasped and tried to apologize, but the Morgan didn't take any apologies. Then um he realized that his hands were starting to squish and be smaller than his legs, then his tail, his head, and then his ginormous body was as small as a dog. Still to this day his foxes are as small as dogs and uh still as cute. But that would show Fox before he should not have done the thing that he did all the time. That's the end of this story and we hope you enjoyed it. Bye.
SPEAKER_01Well, I really enjoyed it. Before I say bye, I wanted to say, Rosie, this sounds like a story with consequences, huh?
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01I think there's a lesson to be learned. Anything you do, there are consequences. So be ready.
SPEAKER_00Don't be greedy.
SPEAKER_01Don't be greedy, that's a great moral. Okay, thank you all for listening, and uh hopefully we'll have another another story. When do you think, Rosie, next week?
SPEAKER_00Uh yeah, but we hope to be sooner. It's just that we didn't have enough time, and we're sorry for the wait um before.
SPEAKER_01Okay, and then do you think our next story will be about about El C's family member? Okay. Alright, well, until next time, everyone have a great weekend, and uh hopefully we'll have another story next week. See you later. Bye. Bye.
