asks receives, he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks, it's opened. 00:02:59.199 --> 00:03:01.360 That's how Jesus starts out this teaching. 00:03:01.439 --> 00:03:06.000 And then he gets down and he talks about if you ask for bread, would you give him a give him a stone? 00:03:06.159 --> 00:03:09.840 If he asks for, yeah, you know, would uh would you give him a serpent? 00:03:09.919 --> 00:03:13.360 You know, this kind of a weird analogy that Jesus is talking about. 00:03:13.439 --> 00:03:26.000 But then he gets down and he says, if you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him? 00:03:26.400 --> 00:03:29.599 I want to talk to you this morning about there's always passage reminds us that all we have to do is ask. 00:05:04.480 --> 00:05:09.439 More asking, more listening, more dependence on the Holy Spirit in our lives. 00:05:09.680 --> 00:05:14.480 In John chapter 20 is when the disciples receive the Holy Spirit. 00:05:14.560 --> 00:05:19.759 So Jesus said to them, Peace to you, as the Father has sent me, so I also send you. 00:05:19.920 --> 00:05:26.560 And when he has said this, he breathed on them and said, Receive the Holy Spirit. 00:05:26.800 --> 00:05:30.639 This is when the disciples receive the Holy Spirit, right here in John chapter 20. 00:05:30.800 --> 00:05:34.160 So of course we receive the Holy Spirit at salvation. 00:05:34.240 --> 00:05:38.079 He comes to live inside us and dwell in us, but there's always more. 00:05:38.800 --> 00:05:46.000 There's a place in the Bible in Acts chapter 19 where Paul goes to Ephesus and he says that he comes across some disciples. 00:05:46.160 --> 00:05:50.800 He says, Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believe? 00:05:51.040 --> 00:05:52.240 You know what they say? 00:05:52.959 --> 00:05:56.720 We have not so much as even heard that there is a Holy Spirit. 00:05:57.439 --> 00:06:02.639 And so Paul prays for them, he lays hands on them, and they receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 00:06:02.800 --> 00:06:05.680 So many Christians today, that's what they would believe, that's what they would say. 00:06:05.839 --> 00:06:08.079 We've not heard much about the Holy Spirit. 00:06:08.319 --> 00:06:11.680 So many people in America, we've not heard so much about the Holy Spirit. 00:06:11.759 --> 00:06:18.399 Whenever I teach on this topic, I'm always reminded, I've been able to been blessed to spend uh been Africa to Africa several times. 00:06:18.560 --> 00:06:20.480 We have a campus in Zimbabwe when I was young. 00:06:20.560 --> 00:06:24.319 I used to go to Peru a lot, been to Peru uh about a year and a half. 00:06:24.399 --> 00:06:28.639 I spent some time, our family was in uh Colombia, been all over the place. 00:06:28.720 --> 00:06:36.959 And listen, in these countries, the Holy Spirit, the moving of the Holy Spirit, it's normal Christianity. 00:06:37.360 --> 00:06:41.600 In America, sometimes we become so intellectual. 00:06:41.839 --> 00:06:43.120 You know, I wrote this down. 00:06:43.279 --> 00:06:48.160 In fact, I I feel like I'm getting old sometimes, especially in this church, there's so many young folks. 00:06:48.399 --> 00:06:54.079 And uh what I is it was all this was all when I tell some of the stories, this was But I wrote this down almost 30 years ago in a journal that I have that true Christianity is neither barren intellectualism nor thoughtless emotionalism. 00:07:10.240 --> 00:07:12.639 You may want to And so the Holy Spirit, many Christians are living in John 20, where Jesus said, He breathed on and said, receive the Holy Spirit, or they're living in Ephesians 19, where they don't know much about the Holy Spirit. 00:07:44.160 --> 00:08:01.120 And God wants us to step into the story of the scripture in Acts chapter 2, on the day of Pentecost, where God fulfills the promise in Joel chapter 2, and he says, On your sons and daughters, I will pour out your pour out my spirit on all flesh. 00:08:01.279 --> 00:08:06.879 Your sons and daughters will dream dreams, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. 00:08:07.360 --> 00:08:21.519 That's the fulfillment of Joel and that promise, the scripture says, Peter stood up and he preached, This promise is for you, and to your children, and to as many as the Lord our God will call. 00:08:21.920 --> 00:08:23.839 Maybe you feel far from God today. 00:08:23.920 --> 00:08:25.759 That's that promise is for you. 00:08:25.920 --> 00:08:26.800 It's for our children. 00:08:26.959 --> 00:08:28.639 We can stand on that promise. 00:08:28.959 --> 00:08:42.080 And so he Jesus, he told the disciples there in Luke, he says, wait in Jerusalem, tarry, the King James Version says, and you will be endued with power from on high. 00:08:42.240 --> 00:08:44.559 And so we get to Acts chapter 2. 00:08:44.799 --> 00:08:49.679 When the day of Pentecost has fully come, you know, the day of Pentecost is coming up. 00:08:49.840 --> 00:08:51.279 It's just in a few weeks. 00:08:51.519 --> 00:08:54.080 When the day of Pentecost, it just means 00:09:23.279 And Peter stands up and he says, Repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. that I don't understand and things that maybe I wasn't taught, or you know, but I always said this, God, I want everything you have for me. 00:10:43.919 --> 00:10:46.320 I want everything you have for me in my life. 00:10:46.480 --> 00:10:50.000 I want to go deep with you, I want to know you, I want to walk with you. 00:10:50.399 --> 00:10:55.039 And so there's always another level in our relationship to learn to walk with Him. 00:10:55.200 --> 00:10:58.799 This scripture, I've been reading the scripture the last few weeks for real. 00:10:59.200 --> 00:11:08.720 If you love me, Jesus said, John 14, keep my commandments, and I will pray the Father, and he will give you another helper. 00:11:09.200 --> 00:11:12.799 That word helper, it means comforter, and maybe your translation. 00:11:12.960 --> 00:11:15.600 It's in the Greek, it's periclete or pericletos. 00:11:15.679 --> 00:11:17.759 And that word, it means to come alongside. 00:11:17.840 --> 00:11:37.519 So if I were to pick up like a giant log, don't do that too much anymore, but if I were to pick up a log and someone came and picked up the other side, the one who comes alongside and helps you carry, I will send you another helper, another comforter, that he may abide with you forever. 00:11:37.600 --> 00:11:40.000 Now, this is the part that's been I've been thinking about. 00:11:40.159 --> 00:11:59.120 It says whenever you you think about the baptism of the Holy Spirit or fill or being filled with the Holy Spirit, remember this. 00:13:55.120 --> 00:13:56.799 This is a promise from whom? 00:13:57.919 --> 00:15:07.279 --> 00:15:12.639 Remember in the Old Testament, when they would anoint someone with oil, they would pour oil over a king, or they would anoint someone. 00:15:12.799 --> 00:15:14.720 become dry and thirsty in a land where there is no water. 00:16:03.519 --> 00:16:11.759 Jesus said, if any man thirst, let him come to me and drink, and out of his heart will flow rivers of living
