series because it's been allowing us to really get proper perspective, perspective and recognizing that we are citizens of the kingdom of God. 00:02:30.240 --> 00:02:40.400 You know, the Bible tells us while it's important for us to pray for where we are, Jeremiah 29 instructs us to pray because as the as the world we live in thrives, so do we thrive because we're in this world. 00:02:40.560 --> 00:02:42.879 But we're not to lose sight of the fact that we're not of this world. 00:02:43.039 --> 00:02:46.800 Don't lose sight of the fact that we are called to be citizens of the kingdom of God. 00:02:46.960 --> 00:02:53.039 And some of those passages that we've been looking at over the past couple of weeks, and if you missed any of the series, I want to invite you to go back and check it out. 00:02:53.199 --> 00:03:03.520 These do build on one another, but but the one of the primary passages we've been looking at over the past couple of weeks is Philippians chapter 3, verse 20, where it says that our citizenship is in heaven. 00:03:03.680 --> 00:03:11.520 Paul is reminding us that we're citizens of the kingdom of God and for us not to be distracted by the empire or the things of this world. 00:03:11.680 --> 00:03:24.319 I think our theme scripture has been in Daniel chapter 1, verse number 8, where it simply talks about how Daniel determined that he would not defile himself with the king's food or with the wine that he drank, that Daniel knew how to draw the line. 00:03:24.400 --> 00:03:35.599 He understood that I'm in this world, I'm in this Babylonian system, but he knew how to create boundaries to ensure that he didn't lose sight of how God had called him to function and to live. 00:03:35.759 --> 00:03:44.400 So as we step into today's message in Daniel chapter six, I want to I want to give you some context as to what has happened since the last time we gathered last week. 00:03:44.560 --> 00:03:48.639 Since the last time we've gathered, we actually have seen a couple of different regime changes. 00:03:48.800 --> 00:03:55.840 That initially you've heard us talk for the past couple of weeks about Nebuchadnezzar, about Babylon, and just how oppressive and destructive that it is. 00:03:55.919 --> 00:03:57.360 And that and that very much is true. 00:03:57.520 --> 00:04:00.479 But there's another element that I believe that is subtly introduced. 00:04:00.639 --> 00:04:03.840 We last kind of hear about Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel chapter 4. 00:04:03.919 --> 00:04:05.520 That kind of concludes his journey. 00:04:05.599 --> 00:04:10.240 And then we get into Daniel chapter 5, where a new king comes on the scene, Belshazzar. 00:04:10.479 --> 00:04:12.639 He comes on the scene, and then his journey is really short. 00:04:12.719 --> 00:04:17.839 It's only one chapter, and then we actually are introduced to who we're going to hear about today, a man named Darius. 00:04:18.000 --> 00:04:20.560 But here's the thing I want you to recognize in all of this stuff. 00:04:20.720 --> 00:04:27.920 Because we're talking about Daniel and the life that he lived and how God had given him so much favor and influence and impact everywhere that he went. 00:04:28.079 --> 00:04:29.360 But did you hear what I said? 00:04:29.439 --> 00:04:36.079 That he served under Nebuchadnezzar, he served under Belshazzar, that he served under Darius, and yet he was still favored. 00:04:36.480 --> 00:04:37.360 Did you hear me? 00:04:37.519 --> 00:04:42.480 That no matter who was in leadership, Daniel still had favor because the king was still on a throne. 00:04:43.279 --> 00:04:48.639 As we're entering into a very hotly contested political season, I understand the weightiness of it. 00:04:48.800 --> 00:04:53.600 I understand the importance of us praying and seeing things put into place that we're very passionate about. 00:04:53.759 --> 00:04:58.560 But but let me say it to us plainly: it doesn't matter who's in the White House because Jesus is on the throne. 00:04:59.120 --> 00:05:00.399 Jesus is on the throne. 00:05:00.560 --> 00:05:06.160 And as long as we truly believe that as the people of God, that Jesus is on the throne, it helps us to have peace in this. 00:05:06.399 --> 00:05:10.480 The kingdom of God does not need the empire's permission to function. 00:05:11.040 --> 00:05:14.720 That the things of God are going to still move forward the way that it always had intended to be. 00:05:14.800 --> 00:05:23.279 And I believe that Daniel's life is a perfect example of what it looks like when things change, but God remains the same and we can have peace in the midst of all of that. 00:05:23.519 --> 00:05:33.839 Starting here at verse number three, it beautifully sets the tone where it says that Daniel distinguished himself above the administrators, the satraps, because he had an extraordinary spirit. 00:05:34.079 --> 00:05:36.399 Other translations said he had an excellent spirit. 00:05:36.560 --> 00:05:39.519 So the king planned to set him over the whole realm, promotion. 00:05:39.600 --> 00:05:45.600 And the administrators and the satraps therefore kept trying to find a charge against Daniel regarding the kingdom. 00:05:45.759 --> 00:05:52.160 But they could find no charge or corruption, for he was trustworthy, and no negligence or corruption was found in him. 00:05:52.319 --> 00:06:01.759 That means that even while Daniel was living in this broken world, that he still functioned with excellence, even in the context of the empire, which is a result of why he was able to get a promotion. 00:06:01.920 --> 00:06:02.720 Hear what I'm saying. 00:06:02.800 --> 00:06:05.519 It doesn't matter who your boss is, promotion comes from above. 00:06:05.680 --> 00:06:13.040 And if we can live a life that is dedicated to the kingdom, wouldn't it be great for people to say when they look at you, like, there's no false charge I can put against that person. 00:06:13.120 --> 00:06:16.560 I can gossip, I can yell all the drama, but at the end of the day, they function with excellence. 00:06:16.639 --> 00:06:18.639 There's there's no charge that I could put against them. 00:06:18.800 --> 00:06:22.560 That was literally the testimony of the people that opposed Daniel. 00:06:22.800 --> 00:06:30.160 So these men, they said, We will never find a charge against Daniel unless we find something against him concerning the law of his God. 00:06:30.319 --> 00:06:35.040 They knew so deeply that Daniel was a man of conviction that he would not compromise in his faith. 00:06:35.120 --> 00:06:41.040 They said, The only way we could trip Daniel up is if we find a way to trip him up regarding his faith. 00:06:41.199 --> 00:06:46.399 So the administrators, the satraps, went together to the king and they said to him, May King Darius live forever. 00:06:46.480 --> 00:06:56.720 All the administrators of the kingdom, the prefects, the satraps, the advisors, and the governors have all agreed that King, you should establish an ordinance and enforce an edict for thirty days. 00:06:56.879 --> 00:07:03.199 Anyone that petitions any God or man except for you, the king, shall be thrown into the lion's den. 00:07:03.360 --> 00:07:06.879 In other words, they went to the king and said, Everything needs to flow through you. 00:07:06.959 --> 00:07:12.319 And anything that doesn't flow through you, it's going to risk the opportunity for judgment and ridicule. 00:07:12.399 --> 00:07:14.480 They were elevating man above God. 00:07:14.720 --> 00:07:16.319 Everything has to flow through you, king. 00:07:16.399 --> 00:07:17.839 That's the only way it's going to function. 00:07:17.920 --> 00:07:20.800 They were playing into the king's ego. 00:07:21.439 --> 00:07:30.720 And so the king's response was like, Therefore, your majesty, let's establish this edict, this document, that the laws of the Medes and the Persian is irrevocable and it cannot be changed. 00:07:30.879 --> 00:07:34.240 So the king Darius signed the written act. 00:07:34.639 --> 00:07:38.399 When Daniel learned that the document had been signed, he went into his house. 00:07:38.639 --> 00:07:49.199 The windows in his upstairs room opened toward Jerusalem, and three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed and gave thanks to God just as he had done before. 00:07:49.680 --> 00:07:58.399 I believe we're going to look at some things in the life of Daniel to show us how he was able to function in this broken world but still thrive with kingdom excellence. 00:07:58.480 --> 00:08:02.720 And you this guy's this example, how I said that I would never, ever, ever buy me another iPhone because I know what Apple's trying to do by causing my iPhone to slow down. 00:08:50.399 --> 00:08:52.720 Every time a new iPhone comes out, I'm never going to do it. 00:08:52.799 --> 00:08:56.559 And then as soon as a new iPhone came out, I got me a new iPhone. 00:08:57.360 --> 00:08:59.039 We're all under the influence of something. 00:08:59.279 --> 00:09:01.679 So what do you do when you when you get a new iPhone? 00:09:01.919 --> 00:09:04.399 Well, of course, you're now trapped into this doing. 00:09:11.600 --> 00:09:19.279 It's been a while since I've had to go and shop for new iPhone cases because for me, iPhone cases like a it's like a relationship, it's an expression of your 00:10:39.679 I I I look over at her, and and and while I recognize that we're not necessarily within six feet of distance, we got our mask on, that's probably about three feet away. 00:10:39.759 --> 00:10:40.480 She's standing over there. 00:10:40.559 --> 00:10:44.639 I kind of look at her to let her know, like, hey, I'm about to go in, I'm gonna grab this case and I'm gonna get out the way. side of me, the the old school Philly side of me, is like, you know, I mean, whatever, but but I'm trying, I'm trying to maintain my faith and my salvation. 00:11:49.200 --> 00:11:50.320 I don't know find that it like for me, it's crazy when I'm like, man, like you're just having a full conversation and you don't care about what it looks because you know that you're connected and that someone's we're connected and that someone is listening on the other side, it gives us the ability to speak with boldness. 00:13:59.519 --> 00:14:11.360 You see, when I think about what it means for us to be people of prayer, more often than not, we can often feel like the people like myself who are observing people who are talking about praying and we're like, but is any is anybody actually listening? 00:14:11.519 --> 00:14:14.000 It what's what's happening on on the other side of that? 00:14:14.080 --> 00:14:23.120 But when you are a people that are knowing what it feels like to be in conversation with God, you're not concerned about how it looks because you know you're being connected and you're talking to someone on the other side. 00:14:23.519 --> 00:14:25.519 See, that's that's the power of 00:15:05.519 Like, okay, if I get up and I do my devo every single day, I read the word, I'm doing my best to put it into practice, you begin to learn things, you grow, you expand, you you begin to get a heightened awareness, there's a result that you can see almost immediately. 00:15:05.759 --> 00:15:12.799 We often we also know that if I'm if I'm generous, I understand that if I'm I'm beneficiary of people's generosity and I can also be generous. 00:15:12.960 --> 00:15:16.320 We know that we have those moments where we can see the benefit of our generosity. 00:15:16.399 --> 00:15:28.159 We we even know that when we come into environments like this and we worship, that for some that this may be our first time in service for so long, and so us being together and worship
