00:01:59.760 Okay, looking in Acts chapter number nine, verse number 36. 00:02:01.920 --> 00:02:08.159 The word of the Lord says it says, Now there was in Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which translated to mean Dorcas. 00:02:08.719 --> 00:02:12.319 She was full of good works and acts of charity. 00:02:12.479 --> 00:02:26.319 In those days she became ill and died, and when they had washed her and laid her body in an upper room, then Lida, since Lida was near Joppa, the disciples hearing that Peter was near, they sent two of them, urging him, Please come to us without delay. 00:02:26.479 --> 00:02:31.039 So Peter rose and went with them, and when they arrived, they took him to the upper room. 00:02:31.199 --> 00:02:32.159 Somebody say, Upper room. 00:02:33.039 --> 00:02:39.599 All the widows stood beside him, weeping and showing their tunics and other garments that Dorcas had made while she was yet with them. 00:02:39.840 --> 00:02:46.240 Peter put them all outside and he knelt and he prayed and turned to her body and he said, Tabitha, arise. 00:02:46.560 --> 00:02:54.319 My God, Tabitha arise, and she opened her eyes, and when Peter when she had saw gazelle or grace. 00:03:20.080 --> 00:03:24.400 Scripture tells us that this woman seemed to live an anonymous life. 00:03:24.719 --> 00:03:31.439 But when she left this plane of existence, the Bible says that the evidence of her impact became very clear. 00:03:31.759 --> 00:03:36.960 I think that for many of us that we have the wrong metric when we consider what is valuable in our lives. 00:03:37.199 --> 00:03:42.560 We have been wired in such a way that we believe that the accolades of men somehow reflect the heart of God. 00:03:42.800 --> 00:03:49.360 But I believe that when we look at passages like this, it reminds us of what it looks like to just be faithful even if no one else is looking. 00:03:49.520 --> 00:03:53.680 Because you're planting seeds that have the ability to few from our staff and our team, we we had the incredible privilege of of going to visit a church that's here in our community. 00:06:32.879 --> 00:06:46.879 Many of you know that we're believing God for our own permanent location, and so Pastor Nate has been um intentionally setting us up with different churches in our community so we can go and visit them and begin to ideate around hey, if we got a facility like this, how could we utilize this? 00:06:46.959 --> 00:06:49.519 It's been really an exploratory journey. 00:06:49.600 --> 00:06:55.600 It's been very inspiring, it's been very hope-filled, and so we've just kind of been on this journey of exploring what the future looks like. 00:06:55.759 --> 00:06:58.560 Sometimes you have to visit what you believe God has for you. 00:06:58.720 --> 00:07:01.199 And so we began to walk the grounds and envision things. 00:07:01.279 --> 00:07:24.959 And as we're walking through the facility, we walked into the sanctuary, and I recall this moment where I was looking at the room and and and analyzing and thinking of even some of your faces and us worshiping, engaging the presence of God, the possibilities, and I began to get excited, but I also began to recognize what I perceived to be some things that were distracting because it seemed strategically placed at different spaces in this room. 00:07:25.120 --> 00:07:28.319 There were these, there were these poles, these pillars that were there. 00:07:28.480 --> 00:07:34.319 And I remember turning to the pastor and I said to him, I was like, man, like this room is amazing, it's open, it's the ceilings are great. 00:07:34.399 --> 00:07:39.120 These are the type of things that you're trying to do in order to facilitate um these movements that we're doing. 00:07:39.199 --> 00:07:43.199 But also, man, like these columns, they're such an obstruction. 00:07:43.360 --> 00:07:45.759 Like, man, how do you guys navigate around that? 00:07:45.839 --> 00:07:49.199 Man, can't you just remove these pillars? 00:07:49.439 --> 00:08:02.639 And he smiled and he turned to me and he said, Man, he said, he said, if it was only that easy, he said, it would be beyond expensive for us to do that because what you need to know, Pastor Keith, is that these are load-bearing pillars. 00:08:02.879 --> 00:08:10.800 Maybe you're not familiar with what load-bearing is, but in the construction space, load-bearing is a part of the structure that carries the weight of everything. 00:08:11.040 --> 00:08:14.160 If you remove it, the entire thing collapses. 00:08:14.399 --> 00:08:32.720 If you need to have these load-bearing pillars, they they hold up the walls, they connect the roof to the foundation, these load-bearer things are so, so important that if you remove it, even though it may seem inconvenient, it may seem confronting, it may seem distracting, but if you remove it, the entire structure can't remain. 00:08:32.960 --> 00:08:48.159 I haven't stopped thinking about that since then because it's allowed me to really begin to think about the people in my life that I often don't recognize, the people in my life that sometimes they're obstructing my view of things, but they're actually holding everything together. 00:08:48.399 --> 00:08:57.039 There are some moments that God will bring people into our world in that sometimes they confront us with a version of truth that makes us feel uncomfortable. 00:08:57.120 --> 00:09:09.919 And sometimes we're like, what if I just were to remove this feedback from my life altogether, not realizing that we need people who are willing to love us well enough to let us know that if you go this path, it can possibly cause damage to you. 00:09:10.080 --> 00:09:23.759 I'm talking about load-bearing people, people that can carry the weight of your dysfunction, people that can carry the weight of their love for you, people that can carry the weight of your successes and not feel jealous about you, the people that you can lean on and not on your own understanding. 00:09:23.919 --> 00:09:30.799 And as I stand in this room on Mother's Day, I recognize that women are absolutely load-bearing in our community. 00:09:31.039 --> 00:09:33.519 They serve such significant purposes. 00:09:33.679 --> 00:09:38.879 And sometimes it seems as if they're overlooked, undervalued, and unseen. 00:09:39.279 --> 00:09:46.639 But sometimes we'll see that when women show up, especially in the ministry of Jesus, that they were literally the ones that were advancing the ministry. 00:09:46.879 --> 00:09:59.039 The Bible tells us that it was women that were paying for the ministry of Jesus, that were women that were supporting the ministry of Jesus, and I can think of my own life and the varying people that have had impact, but I can't think no different than my mother and my wife. 00:09:59.120 --> 00:10:04.399 These women are literally the pillars that have allowed me to advance and do what God is ultimately calling me to do. 00:10:04.559 --> 00:10:07.600 We need load-bearing people in our lives. 00:10:07.840 --> 00:10:10.720 And sometimes those load-bearing people, they confront us. 00:10:10.879 --> 00:10:13.440 Sometimes those load-bearing people, they challenge us. 00:10:13.519 --> 00:10:21.919 Sometimes those load-bearing people, it can bring us discomfort, but nonetheless, if we were to remove them from our lives, we could possibly lose our stability. 00:10:22.240 --> 00:10:30.159 Paul talked about these types of people in Galatians chapter 6, verse 2, where he says that we're called to bear one another's burdens. 00:10:30.720 --> 00:10:33.519 Bear each other's burdens, carry the heaviness, the weight. 00:10:33.600 --> 00:10:35.919 That means to stand with each other and serve as a column. 00:10:36.000 --> 00:10:45.440 So not only do we need people in our lives that are load-bearing, but we also need to be people who are load-bearing in the lives of others, people who can carry the weight for one another. 00:10:45.759 --> 00:10:53.120 And as we look at this text, we see that we're introduced to a woman who is a load-bearing woman in that community of Joppa. 00:10:53.279 --> 00:11:02.639 And this text brings us on a journey where we can begin to not only extract some principles that can be encouraging for us, but inspiring and challenging at the same time. 00:11:02.879 --> 00:11:11.279 Looking at the beginning, it says that there was a woman who was in Joppa who was also a disciple, and her name was Tabitha. 00:11:11.519 --> 00:11:15.200 She lived an incredibly full life. 00:11:15.519 --> 00:11:20.159 That's the principle for us, is that we need to be people who live a full life. 00:11:20.480 --> 00:11:21.759 Let me break that down for us. 00:11:21.919 --> 00:11:27.840 Because first the text tells us that she is classified as being a disciple of Christ. 00:11:28.080 --> 00:11:36.720 We could skip past that if we don't recognize the culture in which this was written, but in the first century, women were not often associated with being disciples. 00:11:36.879 --> 00:11:39.279 Discipleship was viewed as a man's world. 00:11:39.440 --> 00:11:43.039 Rabbis often took male students under their tutelage. 00:11:43.200 --> 00:11:45.039 Religious leaders were trained men. 00:11:45.279 --> 00:11:47.120 Women were not a part of those circles. 00:11:47.279 --> 00:11:50.879 They were assumed to be outside of serious spiritual formation. 00:11:51.039 --> 00:11:59.440 And here we have Jesus modeling women sitting at his feet, which we don't realize how progressive we feel uncomfortable with that word, how progressive that concept was. 00:11:59.600 --> 00:12:03.759 That was unheard of to have women sitting at the feet of Jesus in a learning position. 00:12:03.919 --> 00:12:12.159 And then watch this the Bible shows us that Luke uses the same language to define her that defines Peter, a disciple of Christ. 00:12:12.399 --> 00:12:16.480 The same language that defined John is the same language to define this woman. 00:12:16.639 --> 00:12:20.720 The same language to define Paul was the same language to define this woman. 00:12:20.879 --> 00:12:24.000 It doesn't say that she was a helper, it doesn't say that she was a supporter. 00:12:24.080 --> 00:12:27.039 It says that she was a disciple of Christ. 00:12:27.360 --> 00:12:30.320 In the kingdom, there are no second-tier citizens. 00:12:31.039 --> 00:12:33.679 Her gender did not segregate her from her calling. 00:12:34.080 --> 00:12:41.279 That she was a disciple of Christ, and her background, her culture, and her gender were not a lid for what God wanted to do in her life. 00:12:41.519 --> 00:12:47.279 And the text tells us it's as a disciple of Christ that she was living a life of fullness. 00:12:47.519 --> 00:12:52.080 It says that she was full of good works and acts of charity. 00:12:52.399 --> 00:12:53.519 Stay with me for a minute. 00:12:53.679 --> 00:12:55.919 Because Luke could have said that she did good works. 00:12:56.080 --> 00:13:04.960 It could have said that she was very helpful towards people, but he was very clear in saying that she was full of good works and full of charity. 00:13:05.120 --> 00:13:08.720 He was saying that she was so full that it became a life of overflow. 00:13:08.879 --> 00:13:16.240 That word that he uses literally means to be filled to the brim with nothing left to add to it, to live a life of overflow. 00:13:16.399 --> 00:13:20.960 And this word is doing something so much more than what the surface would insinuate. 00:13:21.120 --> 00:13:29.200 Because there's only a handful of time that we see an individual that is defined as being so full that it lives to a life of overflow. 00:13:29.360 --> 00:13:36.000 In John 1.1 and 1.14, it says that Jesus was full of grace in truth, living a life of overflow. 00:13:36.080 --> 00:13:42.320 It says that Stephen in Acts chapter 6 was full of faith in the Holy Spirit and that overflowed into boldness. 00:13:42.480 --> 00:13:48.480 It says that Barnabas was full of the Holy Spirit and with faith, and that overflowed in a way in which he served people. 00:13:48.639 --> 00:13:53.279 And now we have Tabitha, who was full of good works and acts of charity. 00:13:53.519 --> 00:13:58.159 She was living the abundant life that Jesus defines in John 10 10. 00:13:58.399 --> 00:14:02.159 Let me remind us that the Bible says that the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. 00:14:02.320 --> 00:14:06.960 But I, the words of Jesus, have come that you can live life to the fullest. 00:14:07.279 --> 00:14:11.360 God's desire for us is for us to live a life of overflow. 00:14:11.600 --> 00:14:14.080 But the question is, what are we full of? 00:14:14.320 --> 00:14:17.360 Because whatever you're full of is what you're going to leak with. 00:14:19.679 --> 00:14:22.960 And let me say this we're all full of we're going to be led by. 00:14:34.080 --> 00:14:39.440 If you're full of the flesh, then you're going to leak the behaviors and the mindset that are connected to the flesh. 00:14:39.759 --> 00:14:41.440 Because here's the thing I want to tell you. 00:14:41.600 --> 00:14:43.279 You can't fake fullness. 00:14:44.240 --> 00:14:50.879 What's in you will eventually come out of you, or scripture refers to it, is it says that it is by their fruit we shall know them. 00:14:51.120 --> 00:14:56.639 Now here's the tension that I've recognized that many of us live in because we're full of the wrong things. 00:14:56.879 --> 00:15:10.240 We have this place where we're one foot in and one foot out, so we're also full of our own desires, our own carnality, and whilst trying to be full of the things of God, and one will leave you depleted and one will leave you full, and we're wondering why we're feeling empty. 00:15:10.480 --> 00:15:15.360 Because so many of us are pouring out into environments that aren't pouring back into us. 00:15:15.519 --> 00:15:25.120 We're finding ourselves in spaces where because we're in environments that aren't life-giving for us, the consequence of that is that we begin leaking disappointment in our families. 00:15:25.279 --> 00:15:28.240 Because whatever you're full of is what you're going to overflow with. 00:15:28.320 --> 00:15:30.240 And we're wondering why I feel empty. 00:15:30.399 --> 00:15:31.600 Why do I feel depleted? 00:15:31.759 --> 00:15:34.320 Why is my patient virtually non-existent? 00:15:34.399 --> 00:15:36.639 It's because maybe you're full of the wrong things. 00:15:36.799 --> 00:15:40.960 An empty cup cannot pour out anything except for disappointment and despair. 00:15:41.279 --> 00:15:44.639 But also, the truth is, many of us are full of the wrong things. 00:15:44.799 --> 00:15:48.639 Some of us are full of resentment for that season that we can't let go of. 00:15:48.879 --> 00:15:55.679 Some of us are full of comparison from that feed that we can't stop looking at and wishing that somehow that was our life. 00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:58.799 Some of us are full of fear for the future that we can't control. 00:15:58.879 --> 00:16:03.759 Some of us are full of bitterness of the wound that we have not surrendered to God and we stopped praying over. 00:16:03.919 --> 00:16:07.440 And some of us are leaking these things into our marriage. 00:16:07.600 --> 00:16:12.480 We're leaking these things into our friendship, we're leaking these things into our community. 00:16:12.639 --> 00:16:20.960 But the Bible says that for Tabitha, for Dorcas, that she was so full of the spirit that she leaked goodness out of her life. 00:16:21.120 --> 00:16:27.039 That everywhere she went, she had impact on people because she was full of the right things and the things of God. 00:16:27.200 --> 00:16:29.759 So here's my question that I want you to ponder this week. 00:16:29.919 --> 00:16:33.600 If your like began to leak tomorrow, what's coming out? 00:16:35.120 --> 00:16:52.240 Will people begin to benefit from the fruit of the joy and love and peace and kindness that's in your life, or are they stopping, or are they stepping into the residue of the toxicity, the unforgiveness, and the bitterness because we're all full of something, and whatever we're full of is the very thing that we are full of is what you're going to leak into your families. 00:17:06.480 --> 00:17:12.240 We can't be disappointed at the condition of our family when we've been leaking the ingredients for it the whole time. 00:17:12.720 --> 00:17:17.279 But when we can pour the right things in, we can see fruit that transforms everything. 00:17:17.440 --> 00:17:28.400 The Bible says that Dorcas had lived such a full life that it began to shift the atmosphere of everything around her so that when she breathed her last breath, people showed up on her behalf. 00:17:29.279 --> 00:17:34.640 Here's another thing I want you to recognize, God's it's important to know who's really in your corner. 00:17:35.200 --> 00:17:40.400 Because we need to live a full life, a life that is full of the things of God so that we can live a life of overflow. 00:17:40.640 --> 00:17:45.440 But please make sure you recognize the people who are truly in your corner. 00:17:45.599 --> 00:17:52.799 The text tells us that in the days when she had died, that her community had come alongside her, they had washed her and put her in the upper room. 00:17:52.960 --> 00:17:54.480 Somebody say upper room. 00:17:54.799 --> 00:17:58.559 In the book of Acts, the upper room becomes a sacred space. 00:17:58.720 --> 00:18:04.480 In Acts chapter 1, the disciples gathered in the upper room to wait on the promise of the Holy Spirit. 00:18:04.640 --> 00:18:09.440 In Acts chapter 2, the Holy Spirit fell in the upper room and gave birth to the church. 00:18:09.599 --> 00:18:18.480 And now we find ourselves in Acts chapter number nine, where the Bible says that the this precious woman was placed in an upper room and they were waiting for a miracle. 00:18:18.720 --> 00:18:23.519 This is the space where God shows up and meets us at the face of our expectation. 00:18:23.680 --> 00:18:25.599 They are waiting on a miracle. 00:18:25.759 --> 00:18:29.519 I'm wondering if I'm talking to anybody that's waiting on a miracle right
