My name is Sam Russell. My name's Jane Wright. And this is Create Your Story. Thank you for joining. It's a beautiful Episode four. What it do? Let's get it. We're back. We're back. Back in better than ever. Saturday morning this time. So last 24 hours, have you been thinking these dogs done three episodes and then cruise?
SPEAKER_00Hey. Have you been there sitting refreshing the Spotify? Yeah. And where are these fucking crazy?
SPEAKER_01Nah, we had a bit on this week. Um, so yeah, it's probably a bit later than usual, but I don't mind it of a Saturday morning. It's a nice little vibe. I think um driving in through Maitland pretty quiet on a Saturday morning, so it's good to be up and doing something productive.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, now a good start to your Saturday, I reckon. Long weekend. Long weekend, boy. Already. June already. Crazy, crazy shit.
SPEAKER_01We'll get into it. We might um we might just do a bit of a debrief on we want to we want to do the challenge.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, do that. Do you want me to start or you start?
SPEAKER_01I'm happy to. Like I'd full accountability. I probably only did it for two days. It was like, it was a spin out. Just um, bruh, do you know what's crazy? Sometimes I'll plug my my phone in and I'll be driving, and then I'm like, Where's the music? So I'll like unplug my phone and plug it back in. The amount of times I was driving and I'm like, where's the music? I'm going, or where's the podcast? I'm clicking on it, I'm like, oh that's right. Um and then I think yeah, by the third day, I was just like, I can't do this because like yeah, I think definitely for me, like m most of the time, I very rarely listen um to music to be honest. It'll be like on a Sunday if I'm going to Step and Connect from mine, like in Gillo, it's not far, yeah, music, or like if I'm going from like yeah, my house to work, which is very rarely because I'm always going like to the gym, then from the gym here, I'm always just podcasting. Um like I think that was because driving from Dungog in here, like, you know, that's nearly two hours a day, so you think that's ten hours of driving a week. So like I would fit all these podcasts in that time, um, and I would have all like the routine of like this day for this one, this day for that one based on their drops. Yeah. Um and moving away from there less driving time. I don't like there's a couple podcasts I've had to stop listening to because I don't have enough time. So um and I don't listen to podcasts any other time really.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. No, I was the same. I think I sort of started there Monday or Monday morning, and um so I was just driving around town and then Tuesday I drove to Singleton um and then to Newcastle and I I was in the horror's A, to be honest. Like a bit similar to you. I I think for me, driving because I've in previous roles I I drive so much, so it's like that sort of I guess time to myself just to kick back and like put some music on, um cruise. So I I I really struggled and I think I only did it for two days as well, and I like to be straight up.
SPEAKER_01I I think for me it was like I think for me it's like um if you're if you're someone who doesn't ever give like your thoughts an opportunity, definitely give it a crack. But because like I feel like I'm pretty good at like identifying like what I'm overthinking about or what I'm thinking about and dealing with it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So when I'm driving, it was never about like de-stressing or whatever, it was always about like what I need to do more, I need to do this more. I was stressing myself out, bruh. For no reason. For no reason, because I'm like just constantly thinking about it. That was and then I'd come back to it'd be like work stuff. I'd get to the office and I'd be like, You already did that last week, you idiot. Like, do you know what I mean? So no, that was the same as me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you sort of just put shit in your head. I'm like, just relax. But the amount of envoy.
SPEAKER_01Like the amount of different things that you're thinking about, like you look at a car and you'd start like thinking about the car and shit. I'm like, am I even concentrating right now?
SPEAKER_00Like, mine was pretty like it was pretty calming, but because I I drove from the back way from um Maitland to Singleton, so it's all through like Lambs Valley and shit, and it was actually quite peaceful. That's mad. It was actually nice, sun was out and shit, but I was just like, nah. But in saying that, like we said, like I had a lot of people reach out saying, like, wait, like, am I the only person that does this? Like, people said that they they do it all the time, and like they use that for their time just to zone out, um, which is so crazy. Had like obviously different people use different things or different things work for different people. Shout out Billy Page.
SPEAKER_01Hey, I said, I'm gonna I'm gonna out you on the pod. She's like, nah, don't. Um this is your out. But nah, everyone, there's a lot of people out there that that do do that, so I guess you just find whatever works for you. But don't be doing that again, bruh.
SPEAKER_00Nah, I think um I was thinking about it like if I've got a long drive or something like that, do I give myself five minutes just to cruise at the start? But bruh, it's like it's like muscle memory. I'm just straight music plays, got me Spotify playlist, yeah, and then go to potties as well. So yeah, look, it was a bit of a struggle to be honest, but uh is what it is, eh? We're here to be open and honest, we're not here to fucking be gaming, so yeah. Not bad, not bad.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna start with a bit of a yarn. Um, I'm gonna go into a neg a negative and then we're gonna talk about Johnny Gakes. So just a smoothies over. Shout out Zoe Khan. This is not a disrespect to you, but I want to say that Tom Marie Sports Club at the Hawks there, that has to be the worst canine in the district, bro.
SPEAKER_00That's a big call.
SPEAKER_01The worst canine in the district, and I've got two experiences to back it up. So we went over there probably three weeks ago um to watch like a bit of footy and stuff, and I walk up to the canine and I'm with like Riley and a family because like a brother's playing over there, a place for hawks, and we walk up there and I'm like um I'll get two pies, and they're like, Nah, pies aren't ready. Um, you have to get something else. I was like, Righto, I'll just get two hot chips, and then like, yeah, wait over there. So I wait over here, and then um there's like four or five other people there waiting for chips, and I'm looking at like them cooking them in the deep fryer, going like, I'm gonna be the next batch. I'm gonna yeah, at least the next batch, cuz, right? So um then her two sisters go up to the canine and say, Can we get a pie? And she's like, Oh, there might be some ready, and give them a pie. Same same person, same person, and I'm like, sorry, like I'm just sitting there thinking, like, bruh. So I'm I'm like like they test out the pies and they're like, Oh yeah, I think the the server originally said, Oh, I don't think they're and then someone else jumped in and said, Oh, I think they'd be ready by now. So they give them a pie, right? All good, whatever you didn't think they were ready. So I then go up to the counter and I say, Look, I can see these people in front of me, I'm with them. The game's about to kick off from half time. Is there any chance? Like, can I just grab two pies instead of two chips? You can keep the leftover money. No, you can't, you've already bought chips. I'm like, yeah, but you haven't started cooking them yet. They fool wouldn't let me do it, eh? I was like, bro, I'm giving you free money. Like, I was spinning and then um went back there on the weekend. On the weekend? Yeah, yeah. Sunday. And um, I was like, oh Rhino, we'll go and try this canine again, eh? About 12:45 probably. Peak lunch time, bruh. I walk up to the canine and I'm like, can I get a pie? Oh, they'll be ready in an hour. Who's taking an hour to cook a pie? I'm like, serious, put them in the microwave for two minutes 50, and I'll come back after half time. That was crazy. I was like, he's got an air fryer back there. Like, bro, I've never known a pie to cook for an hour, so I'm like, right, we'll do these chips again. And like, dead set, probably waited 20 minutes. Like, I'm like, you're peak lunchtime, then pie should be ready to be served.
SPEAKER_00Not a good experience.
SPEAKER_01No, it was diabolical.
SPEAKER_00Would you reckon you'll even suss it out for round three or you just get something else on the way?
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, probably won't be going back. Like the food's not bad, but like, come on. I'm like, cuz I'm trying to watch the game. I've come up here at half time with the nine eens. Yeah. You reckon pies are gonna be an hour, that'd be kick-off for Denton.
SPEAKER_00Like, and I think that's that's the point of a canine, right? She's right there ready.
SPEAKER_01I'm just used to that Maitland Piggers can eat invest in the biz.
SPEAKER_00On the back of that, on the back of that canine yarn, and I know I sp spun a yarn about dad there last week, but I've got another one actually about him. Um, and it was when we were all young, um, and mum, like we'd get a lo-like randomly, you know, you just get a lunch order and you're like, fuck, this is the best day of my life, eh? Um and it would wouldn't happen often.
SPEAKER_01Bruh, I don't know if this is the same for you, but you know how they would always send someone down to grab like the basket of lunch orders to bring them back to the classroom, particularly if it was wet weather. Yeah. How nostalgic is that smell, cuz that school can even smell.
SPEAKER_00That's mad. Hey, and it'd be fucked when you got a poxy Devin Sandwich. But um, yeah, and mum would always do it and we'd get, I don't know, pie and a drink or something like that, eh? Um, or like something else. But um one time dad was doing it, and it was for my brother, and I think my brother would have been in like year four, year five. Um and he's like, Oh, what do you want? And my brother was like, Oh, chicken chips, like you know the chicken fingers? Yeah. Um but like, yeah, that he said chicken chips, and dad thought he meant like packets of chips. So dad just put down one chicken chip. So he's thinking this whole day he's like, fuck yeah, I'm getting chicken chips. Yeah, old Smiths. Nah, but come back and it was just one chicken finger. That's all he got for his lunch order. I mean, he said one time that and his dad got fucking bin from lunch orders from the day.
SPEAKER_01Speaking of Dak, went down there to JobLink Plus. Um thanks for having us, Tina and the team. Reconciliation week. We didn't really touch on reconciliation week too much, but um, like in terms of on the potty and stuff, I don't think. But um, yeah, obviously it's uh it always runs from that kind of Wednesday to Wednesday. So the start of the um not not like I think it was 67 referendum into Marbot Day, which was on Wednesday. Um making Johnny cakes, it was actually mad. Wait, I that was actually probably the second time I've ever made them, like we had a bit of a practice, and like they are pretty simple to make, um, but it's just making sure you get the consistency consistency of everything right. I actually think I so um with the results of it, like Jaden got eight votes, he won, I got six, I come second, Dak got two, he got third. I actually think I played a role in the demise of Dak's Johnny cakes because I'm sitting there, we're making these Johnny cakes, right? And I was pumping them out, and um, I'm rolling them quite small, and Dak's like, they're too small, bruh. And I'm thinking in my head, like, nah, could self-raise and flour, but then he like wigged me out a bit, so I made him with the big orders too, uh yeah, and then um and I'm sitting there and I'm making them and I'm starting to roll mine up, Did's rolling his up, and Dak's still trying to like get it together. And I said to everyone, I'm like, um, if you want to try Uncle Dax, you've got to come back in the morning by the time he's finished, and then he turned his pan up so that he could cook him quicker. So that when he's put him in the pan, just burn them up.
SPEAKER_00Our dry is all fucked too, eh? Bless you, man. Look like scrambled eggs. I'll try to get some photos up. I think we got some photos.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, um couldn't couldn't get enough bloody Kempsi honey to make them taste the right egg.
SPEAKER_00That's what I said. I said that Kempsy honey's not even gonna do the trick, bruh. Yeah, but no, it was good, eh? Like, it was sort of good just to do something um that wasn't so serious and just have a bit of a laugh.
SPEAKER_01Um especially, like you said, you touched on reconciliation week, but it was just good to get everyone together and um And outside your comfort zone for me, like I don't know about you, but I I don't I'm I wouldn't say um like say I'm a good cook, bruh. I don't I'm only it's only been since moving out of home. I've been dabbling in a bit of cooking here and there and stuff, but yeah.
SPEAKER_00And plus you got 15 people standing there watching every move. So I was like, I um at the start there, I'm not gonna lie, I fucked the consistency up a bit, and I'm like, and then I didn't wet like put flour on my hands, everything was sticking to each other and I'm looking around and everyone's watching me. I'm like, fuck me.
SPEAKER_01But did you put did you do what I told you? I I because I did the same as you, yeah. Um and I started rubbing it and it all got on my hand. Yeah. Then I poured flour into one of them spare bowls and just rinsed my hands in there and it came off.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah, shed it to Sam actually, because if I know how I won, to be honest. I always packed it up as I go, and everyone was like, gassing Sam. They're like, oh, can't wait to try Sam's, and I'm just sitting in the corner, like, fuck, I'm gonna give up, eh? Sam's already won it. I've got the people's vote. But then I like um then I flipped my first ones. I'm like, fuck, they actually look sick. Yeah. Um, I don't know. We had different pans, but like mine was stainless. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I don't like the stainless bra.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't know. But no, it was mad. Um, if anyone wants to try to make Johnny cakes, um we'll we'll put a little easy recipe up. They're easy as they're easy, but they're fun to make. Um, yeah, but we'll put it up on our Insta.
SPEAKER_01One of those things that like they're they taste alright, but it's what you put them with. Same as avocado.
SPEAKER_00I hate avocado.
SPEAKER_01Avocado's goat, bro. Bro, it's only what you're eating it with. I'd have said it by itself like an apple.
SPEAKER_00Skin on and all.
SPEAKER_01Um while we're on food, I want to tell this yarn that I had this experience I had last night, um, as at Domino's in Gillo. So Bruh, we're like went and went to netball training. Umly because like there's been a few rat bags hanging around training, just older kind of men looking real sus and stuff, and obviously my Mrs. Coach is like her sister's team are just 14 girls. Yeah. Um, so I was like, right, I'll just come and and suss it out and you know.
SPEAKER_00Boxy, yeah.
SPEAKER_01What am I gonna do if someone just stand there and shadow box out?
SPEAKER_00It comes like five bits.
SPEAKER_01Um, that's one running around the courts, bar, push-ups, you know how it is, but no. Yeah, so like we went and then we went back to her family's house for a bit, watch a bit of footy, and I'm like, oh on the way home, we're like, what are we gonna get for dinner? Sweet, we'll just put an order in for Gillow Domino, just get a bit of pizza. Yeah. I walk in there, bruh. Some old dude, 55. Don't ever be this guy in your life.
SPEAKER_00How do you know he's 55?
SPEAKER_01I reckon about I walk in and he's at the counter, and there's all young blokes working in there, and a couple young girls working in there, right? It's obviously it's a fast food place, it's a Friday night. Yeah. They're young. Um, probably about a I'd say 17 or 18 year old, and credit to this guy on the counter because he handled it so well. He comes up and he goes, Order for Paul. Don't be Paul. So Paul grabs his food. I'm behind Paul, and I'm like, Paul, get out of my way. Mine's right there, I can see it. And Paul goes, See that guy over there behind them? That looks like he's about to start making pizzas. And the young guy's like, Yeah, and he's like, he's got gloves on, he's coming out here, he's touching the cash registers, then he's going in there and he's touching pizzas. And then the guy at the counter was like, Oh, oh, okay. And he's like, Yeah, you shouldn't be doing that. You shouldn't be doing that. And as he's like turning around to leave, he's just staring at the young guy, and he's nearly about to bump into me. So I've stepped aside him. Yeah, I've stepped aside him, and then the young guy's like, Don't forget your drink. He's like, Yeah, I know. I'm just saying, and I'm not having a go at you, but you shouldn't be wearing gloves and then going out there and then touching food. Then he walked out and I looked up at the boys and I was like, if you don't like it, make your own pizzas at home. You pour and then um the young bloke brother was like, Yeah, for real, bro, right? Um, because the guy, like the guy behind that, he was having a dig at, he was hiding behind where they store all like the pizzas in the warmer. So he was obviously just staying there so that he um that he didn't have to deal with it. I said, Oh, get out, come out, come out here, and he steps out. And I was like, bruh, don't worry about him, cuz I was like, if you come on in the fast food places and you're worried about that, I was like, make your own pizzas at home. And I was like, You're doing a good job. And then he was like, Oh, thanks, bro. I was like, nah, it's all good. I was like, he's gonna go home and just dig into his pizza now. And he's I'm like, cuz you just touched the door at Domino's, you touched the door in your car, you touched everywhere else, but you want to go and have a crack at these young kids.
SPEAKER_00Nah, that's good. Don't be Paul. Fuck you, Paul. If you're out there listening, Paul sells Avon, I reckon. Fucking growing pizzas, give the young fellas a break, they're having a crack, and then them sort of blokes are the same people that bag people, young people out for not having a job. Yeah, that's right. Fuck you, Paul. I was off at eight. Nah, good on you for standing up and having and sort of. I waited until Paul left, but yeah. I waited till Paul I said in driveway in his car, but fuck you.
SPEAKER_01It was cracker butt because he walks out and I could see the the guy at the front was a bit rattled, and I was like, I got an online order and he grabbed it and he looked at me and I'm like, make your own pizzas at home, Paul. He just lost it A. Like That's mad. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Fuck you, Paul A. A proper. I didn't even know there was a f dominoes in Gillo. Domino's RGA's laundromat.
SPEAKER_01That IGA is one of the elites, eh? It's owned by the same people in um that like it's owned by the same people that own the one at the Gold Love's like James Oscove and that. Oh, true.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, gun. It's like a grocery, like a family, it's like a big thing, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I think they own Gloucester 2 NT gardens. Shout out. Yeah. Lovey. We want to get into some quotes or what? Yeah, gone. Alright. Oh, we have to get our own. Yeah. You got one? Yeah. You go first.
SPEAKER_00I don't have one.
SPEAKER_01He doesn't have a quote.
SPEAKER_00No, I do. I screenshotted it, but I just bro, I've got so much shit going on. I do have a quote.
SPEAKER_01Well, I don't I forgot to even find one. Oh, actually, I'm just gonna read one from my threads. Let's do that. Hey, you've got 60 of them, boys. Yeah. I don't know if he's like that from last time. I didn't get any new followers, so maybe not. Nah. I liked it. Alright, here we go. This one's good. It's not a bad month, it's not a bad week, and it's not a bad day. They're just bad moments. Don't have a bad moment and shift to a negative mindset looking for more bad moments to add up to your bad day, week or month. If you have a growth mindset, even the bad moments are good moments. Put the same emphasis on good moments as you do bad moments and see your attitude change. I like that. That's good from you, Samuel. I remember listening to someone talk about that, and that was would have been when I made this quote, and um they were always saying, like, you know when like people get up late, bruh, they'll scramble to get out the door, they'll be late, and like today's a bad day. Then they're instantly just looking for things to add to their bad day. Of course, that light will go red. It's a bad day. Of course I stepped in dog shit. Yeah, split the split your days up into three if you have to. I've had a bad morning, but I'm gonna have a good middle part of the day.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I um I like that, and I've I've seen something similar um to that. It's just like don't let yeah, those bad moments fuck everything, you know what I mean? And then you're look- you're looking you're looking for negatives, man. Um but I like that. I like that. I got one. Yeah, man. And it's sort of off the back of I don't know, you sorry, I'm just fixing my mic up. You on your threads, and I wanted to create my own.
SPEAKER_01Create your own quote.
SPEAKER_00Create my own quote. Um so I was having to think about it, and this is sort of in lines with what um Guru and stuff like that. Um, sort of my little mentoring business that I what I do, but um, and our our sort of I guess quote or slogan at Guru is listen today, lead tomorrow. So I wanted to create one in lines with that. Um, but it's listen today, lead tomorrow, walk beside people today so they can stand on their own tomorrow. Mad, that's good. Yeah, like it. I just got a bit of um bit of motivation, bro, from you creating your own, and I'm like, I want to do my own. Um but I guess um what it means to me is like some people just need that extra support. Um, a lot of people in community um don't have those positive role models to look up to. Um so if you can walk beside them, um give them the power to then stand staunch on their own, brass.
SPEAKER_01I want to read out this message. So this is um this I got this message on the 14th of May. My reply was deadly, my bra. Love that. I'll read it out next, which I didn't. So four weeks later. I'm gonna read it out now. It comes from Nick Bailey, um, and it was when we were first asking for like quotes and stuff. When we were first asking for the quotes, a lot of people just like gave us um quotes, but he's actually given like how he interprets it too, which is mad. I don't think I've I don't think you've shown me this. Yeah, I'm not sure. Um you can't stop a bird from flying over your head, but you can stop it from laying a nest. I heard this one recently and it really resonated with me as someone who gets a lot of head noise and fixates on every conversation, interaction, and occurrence that happens in my life. The way I interpret this is that these bad days, bad words, and bad feelings will come and you can't stop them. They are never changing and uh and around uh as long as there is negativity in this world. But it's up to you whether that nest continues to build. Love what you boys are doing, keep killing. True, that's mad. I love that. That's sort of off the back of what we're just talking about, too. Fits and good.
SPEAKER_00That's why I was saving it for this app.
SPEAKER_01Oh, he's all over it.
SPEAKER_00No, I like that, bruh. Um, and sort of can resonate with that as well. Sometimes you sit there and fuck.
SPEAKER_01See, I would never have like interpreted it that way, and I'm so glad that um he wrote that because it opens like I would, but do you know what I mean? Like if you're putting quotes in, I'd love to I'd love for you to send us a message on like what it means to you.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I think um that's why it's so cool because everyone interprets it different, or everyone's had an experience, it's different. So send a quote in, send us what it means to you. That's mad, but shot Nick. Alright, few from this week. Few from this week, you reading them, we I read a few, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um the old like it's an old favourite, old classic from Joy Delaney. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.
SPEAKER_00On your doll, you're aware, bro.
SPEAKER_01That's a good one. Yeah. Like that.
SPEAKER_00Um, yeah, I like that one as well. Oh, I'm just trying to get these up here. Sorry, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um another simple one if nothing changes and nothing changes, um, simple, but it is what got me sober. That's from Josh Barb, so um appreciate you sharing that.
SPEAKER_00That's mad, Josh. Um, and you're hundred percent right there, bro. If you're gonna sit there, if you want things to change but you're not willing to change anything. In yourself or your environment, um, then don't expect any outcomes. But proud of you, bro. I don't I don't know you personally, but proud of you for being sober and sharing that story with us. Tactic bra.
SPEAKER_01Um and then everything is a win when the goal is experience. That's Eloisa, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00Eloisa, yeah. Yeah. Shout out Eloisa. Um she sent a fair few in, and um she's always good for a yarn. Yeah. I've been pretty close with her, and she'd come to the walks and stuff like that as well.
SPEAKER_01I had a mad yarn with her. Um it would have been about 6 a.m. Yeah on the 12-hour walk, bro. And um I'd love to like sit down and have another another yarn tour because um when like I took shared a bit about my life story in the first step, and when I went like when I lost my mate and when my mum had the stroke and stuff, I was so fascinated with like that frontal lobe and like the brain and understanding it. And I was just like, like, I reckon I would have struggled so much more in those last couple of hours if it wasn't her, but because we were having that insightful conversation, my brain was just ticking, and I was just like, Yeah, I want to know more. She's heaps smart too. Yeah, she's aware.
SPEAKER_00Um, yeah, she got it, she got mad yarns and um sort of been there through so my darkest moments. So I'm really grateful for her, and she's doing awesome work um as well. Would talk to me, bro, and um hopefully can link up with them in the near future. But love you, see us.
SPEAKER_01Jess, shout out. Um, she had another really good one. If everyone's comfortable, you're not doing it right. A hundred. See, this is this is mad, but I always like I was thinking about this last night and I interpret it probably the wrong way or differently. Like, because I'm always like I think everyone is comfortable. I think if you're doing it right, everyone is comfortable and you're the one that's not.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I know what you mean. But I think what she's saying I think what she means, like, if you're surrounding yourself with people that are comfortable. But no, but I know what you're saying. I think if you're around people and you're and you're in a group of friends and you you're all comfortable, then you're you're in the wrong group. You're in the wrong group. I like that. That's mad. I like that. There's no growth in being comfortable. Um what else we got? Do you want you got yours? You the few personal ones that you got? Um, yeah. I got a few. Um, shout out Kane. Love your bra. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding. Which I love. I love that one. Um and it's always it's always things that you don't want to do or you're sort of sitting there overthinking it, and it might be something that you don't feel comfortable in doing. But when you do it, that's where that growth is, and you feel so much more better for it. You're like, fuck, I'm a I'm a wep now.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna read you one that one of the young fellas I've known for a while at Mail and Hys and Yeah, hectic. I struggled to interpret this, but I want to see what you think. And I don't know if he just um like messed a bit of it up, but I want to read it. If you and it comes from J. Cole, so he's quoted J. Cole, love J. Cole. Um shout out, shout out Jet Connell. Shout out J. Cole. If you refuse to shoot a gun, does not mean it's not deadly. If you refuse to shoot a gun does not mean it's not deadly. I think it means like I like that. Let's get thinking.
SPEAKER_00What do you reckon? I'm trying to. Can I visually see that? I'm like a visual, I just need to see it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, hold up. I was wanting to actually find the quote. Oh, I think it's like um I think it's like just because you didn't shoot the gun doesn't mean that you did like for example, you go in and do an armed rob, you hold everyone up but you don't fire the weapon, doesn't mean you didn't contribute to the same amount of trauma.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's like just because Yeah, 100%. Just because you weren't there and did it, um doesn't mean that you have yeah, can I have a look at a bar?
SPEAKER_01I think it comes from a song called Port Antonio, and it says if you refuse to shoot the gun, don't mean the gun ain't deadly. You can you can you still cause the same amount of intimidation and trauma. Yeah. So I think even in like a um realist sense, like as a person, even if you're not like going out of your way to disrespect people, you can still do that in your minimisms and things.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the way you carry yourself, I reckon, the way you carry yourself without being um disrespectful or being rude to someone, you can still um fuck someone's day, I reckon. That's mad, but I like that. I like um like Joe J. Cole. J. Cole's just a poet in himself, yeah. He's a whap. Love yours, huh? Love yours, J. Cole. Shout out, get you on the next board. Right, is it is it? Quote of the week. Quote of the week, wait up. I just maybe want to share one more. Um shout out to Dil Smear. Um, there's a positive in every negative, so look for it. Yeah, love that. Love that. I think something sort of I sort of push as well, and I I try and practice it myself is um every situation that happens or every negative outcome or negative experience, look for the positives. I think I'm pretty good at doing that. Yeah, I mean, some people sometimes are like, fuck me, you just need to relax. I'm like, well, there's always learnings or something from every experience.
SPEAKER_01And I think as well, like um we get a lot that people are like, everything happens for a reason. That's only every week. Like I love that, and I guess in in line with that, um, to what Dil's saying, I say, always say something kind of similar in that like everything does happen for a reason, or everything you know is meant to be, but sometimes you just gotta look extra hard for it. Sometimes you it does it's not right there in front of your face. Same with the positives, like sometimes you've got to search for them, bruh.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Quote of the week. Quote of the week. Quote of the week, here we go. Shout out. Um, I'll do a bit of a spiel because this young young lady's been doing some awesome work in community. Um, nah, I won't say that.
SPEAKER_01Why deserve the credit for this one?
SPEAKER_00This is no, no, no. Let her have a moment.
SPEAKER_01This is my influence, cuz.
SPEAKER_00Um, yeah. So Sam's partner, Riley. Um, she's been sending quotes in most weeks. Um the quote is don't let your comfort zone become your address. Quote of the week.
SPEAKER_01Um if it was any other quote, I'm not picking her. Like, just I want it to be known. No, she's got to jump through extra hoops, but I actually love this one. So do I. And it kind of fits in with um the theme of what we've what we've spoken about. Yeah. So don't let your don't let your your comfort zone be your address. Yeah. It's so easy. You can you can go on a holiday there.
SPEAKER_00Hey. You can do that for a couple weeks if you want. Yeah. But you don't live there. It's it's so easy to do that. It's so easy to just to be stuck in that comfortability and um be that safe place. It's safe, right? It's safe, it's familiar, you know it, um in lines with home as well. So shout out, Riley. Um, you've got quote of the week, you can be happy now. So stop messaging our um Instagram page.
SPEAKER_01And yeah, I think um, I guess even if you try and do something every week to be outside that comfort zone, something small.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, something small. Um, but I'm loving the engagement with the with the quotes as well. But if we can get um, and I might um even post in the post as well, like maybe some meaning behind um your quotes. Um, and even anything like something that you've done outside your comfort zone, whether it be um I don't know, even something that you've changed during the week that you you you're not used to. I want to hear um what you've done and and how it's working for you. Um it'd be unreal. Mad. What are we up to, bra?
SPEAKER_01The challenge?
SPEAKER_00Oh fuck this I've got one that I really hope it's not, and I tried to do it. I tried to prep myself to do it there at the gym. So I really hope it's not that one. Alright.
SPEAKER_01Generate this number. Generate Oh, it didn't work. Yeah, while Sam's doing that. It's three. Oh. Number three, I'm number three, number three.
SPEAKER_00Talk to three changes, talk to three strangers. That's what it is. I was at the gym at stage knocking, I'm like, right, I this challenge is gonna come up. I'm gonna just talk to this random person. And I went up and I freaked out. He had his headphones in, he's just looked at me and I thought I'm like, fuck.
SPEAKER_01No, right, I would not do it at the gym, cuz.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's can I can I um This is easy for me because but I have had experiences. I'm gonna change it. Not change it, but I'm gonna I'm gonna put strict guidelines into it. So it's easy as what what is it?
SPEAKER_01Talk to three strangers could be at the gym, servo, coffee shop, work, anywhere. Right, oh.
SPEAKER_00So we're we're good at that. Like obviously talking to strangers, but I want to hear actual conversations from this person, and you've got to get you've got to know one thing about them that's sort of random. Yeah, Matt. I'm happy with that. Yeah, yeah, 100%. It's not just a hey hi. No, it's like I have a fucking Maltese Kroshitsu dog. And I'm breeding them.
SPEAKER_01I don't breed dogs, greyhounds. Yeah, because I'll always like, oh, we're walking up the levee here, going to get lunch or something, and I'll just like say stuff to people. They just ignore me because sometimes I'm just like, oh they ignore the trip over there, and they're just like looking at me like, Why are you talking about? I knew it was gonna be that. I'm happy with it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so am I? So am I. Um that's alright. Any more yarns?
SPEAKER_01Fuck.
SPEAKER_00I'm just trying to think. What's on for the long weekend, boy?
SPEAKER_01Footy today, um, up the picks, and then I'm actually pretty first. Uh we the girls play Hawks. Oh, fucking get those pies warmed up. Yeah, well you make or you're at Maitland now, Tit. Go up there and see how good Canine runs. Um and I think the boys play Wes, so it'll be a pretty big day there. True. Um, at home. I think the old boys going up. Is it all we no? I'll probably watch a bit of nine eens and then I'm going to the entrance for the weekend. True. Yeah. Not a bad spot down there. Stay down there for two nights, get away a little bit. I think well I didn't I wasn't super keen on it, but um Riley's brother plays down there on Sunday. True. So we would have gone down there anyway, and then she's like, Oh, you want to go away for the weekend? I'm like, No, I've just been away. She's like, Yeah, but I haven't. I was like, Yeah, right. Fair enough.
SPEAKER_00No, that's mad. Yeah, it's good. Good to get away, bro. I'm going to fuck on a fairly busy weekend, actually. We've got caught like one of my mates' daughter's second birthday today, then a mate's 30th tonight out at where is that at Seam? Out at C'm. Sure. It should be cold out there. Um then we got this half maritimor. Oh yeah. Um, I want to have a yarn about that actually because I'm in two mines. I've had no prep because my knees been playing up, um, and then sort of had four weeks off running, um, and then ren the other day, and it's all good. And I'm so bad for this to be like, right, oh, it's all good now, I'm just gonna go straight into it. And then I fuck myself up in the long run. Um so I was sort of thinking there last night or yesterday, I'm like, bro, I don't know if it's worth um like I'm just proving it to myself, and I don't think it's worth me fucking myself up further. Um and just because it's right now, like bro, the furthest I've ran is 15k and I haven't done any prep. Like I'm I'm asking for an injury. Well, and the thing is, like But for in my head, bro, it feels like I've got to I'm like, I've got to do it now.
SPEAKER_01No, because we know, so the the biggest thing about it is that like I know for a fact that yourself, Samo, like Blake, any of the boys, you you'll find a way to finish it. It's not about that, right? So do you want to go out there and run it in and then get injured and then be ruined for a few weeks? That's what I mean. Just to finish it when everyone knows that you're gonna be able to finish it. I think I'm gonna give it a miss, to be honest. I've got a few things happening. Um Bro, that's and I'll talk about that too, because that's one thing that I've learnt um only recently that I've implemented is just listening to your body, bra. Like um, the start of this week, um, I started to get sick, and I'm like I'm heaps big on like my mum, like my mum's a nurse, so like she's always said to us, never just take um penadole for a headache or for like a small thing, because the more and more you take it, the less it's effective on you and stuff. Um, but also like every single time you take medication or medicine, um, your immune system relaxes and goes, Oh, sweet, I don't have to do as much, which is fine. Like, if you need it, you need it. Yeah, but I'm always one that like I will never take it. And then and she's always even said to us, like, when you get sick, um, you should at least give your body like the first two days to try and fight it, and then pump whatever you need. True. Um, just so, and then when I was like probably 16 or 17, um, I took like vitamin C tablets for six months, and then mum didn't know about it. I just went down to the chemist and got them, and like you can get them, and um, she was like in my room cleaning. Why vitamin C just random? I just heard that it was heaps good for you. The boys were taking it, and I was like, Yeah, I I probably like back then I wouldn't have known. I probably thought it was like, Oh, this has helped me in the gym and all, bruh. Look at me, yeah. Um, and then she's like, What are you doing taking these? And I was like, No, no, heaps good for you. And she's like, Oh, yeah, this shit will make this is like because what happens is your immune system starts to shut down. Yeah, but it doesn't, but it starts to like not be as strong because it's not working. So then um I stopped taking them and I was like the sick as I've ever been for like six months. True. Um, so like I started getting a bit sick on I think Tuesday, Wednesday, and I was like, Look, I'm not gonna go to um we had that youth working thing, I was like, I'm not gonna go there, and I'm not gonna go to the gym. Yeah, um, I was like, I just need to um listen to my body and I two days and then I pump some cold and flus and it's gone.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's gone. Nah, it's it's something that I struggle with because I'm like, I feel like I'm letting people down, but I think in the long run, I've got a few things happening um obviously with work, and then I'm going away to Bali and I'm going to Sydney, going we're going to Sydney on Sunday, so I'm like, I'm just gonna I think I'm just gonna go there and support the boys and I'll continue running. Hopefully I'll run a half marrow eventually, but I just don't think it's worth me at the moment with everything happening, um, just because I I did an 8k run on Tuesday and I hadn't run in like a month that I could just go out and do it. Definitely um because I'm the type of person, like you said, if I'm in excruciating pain, I'll just keep running. I'll just fuck it even more. Once you start, you're not gonna stop. So at what point do you that's it? So yeah, sorry for people that thought I was doing it, but I'm not doing it. Um if you've got a problem with me, come from Express. Um but yeah, doing that, go on the footy tomorrow. Uh Sunday, yeah, tomorrow. Going to watch Riff First Tigers. I uh gonna because we're heading down to Sydney to see a DJ, so we're like, I might as well make a day of it. Samo's avid um Penriff is a porter. And I haven't I don't think I've ever seen Penriff play law, have eh? So at Combank, too. I haven't been to Combank. Combank's mad. Um and the Tigers are going all right, so it might be a half-decent game.
SPEAKER_01Lua versus Combank's like the um the steepest stadium you're allowed to have in vacations. That's wild, like incline A. Yeah, it's mad.
SPEAKER_00But yeah, doing that, pretty busy weekend. Um sorry for the delayed podcast. Yeah, all good. All good. Um probably have to do it a bit earlier. My um work roster's all over the place at the moment, so we're just trying to fit it in. But thanks for everyone for reaching out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the engagement's been good. Like and I said to Jib, like I don't this is not something that we're trying to go famous with, or it's not something that we're trying to, you know, turn it into like yeah, we'll be full-time podcasters. It's not what we want. Um, and you know, it's just something that like we want to, I guess, build a platform where people can tune in. Like, I actually went to uh I did a presentation yesterday for work at Glendale TAFE, um and like shout out Glendale TAFE because what they're running is they bring all these different high schools in, so like Toronto, um Cardiff, like there was heaps of different high schools that come in and do like this program year 10, year 12, and they call it student pathways.
SPEAKER_02True.
SPEAKER_01Um, they do like an eight-week program, and what they do is every Friday in the program they bring in someone from industry to talk about the industry, how to get into the industry. So I just went and like told a bit of my story and like just told them about like you know, you might think that Glendale's a shit hole, but you've actually got so many leaders, like you've got Origin Energy around power station not that far away, Hunter New England Health, the roads, right at the lake, you know, transport. So there's a lot of different um like industry within you know their back door sort of thing, and um they said to me, like what did he say? He said, Um what's your bit of advice for young people? Or I guess um they're like the last question, or what is like the reason you do like youth work? And I actually said to him, I was like, Look, um, like who asked you that? Did it a young fella ask you that? No, the guy running there. And I actually said to him, I said, um, I think the biggest thing is like no matter what you've been through, no matter what you're doing, um, no matter what happened in your life, whether mum's gonna done this, dad's gone and done that, you grew up in the system, you grew up in care, like whatever, everyone gets an opportunity at some stage to break that cycle and create their own story. And then one of the like I could see him all heading on. I was like, me and my my like my good friends actually, we just created a podcast titled Create Your Own Story, and that is what it's based on. It's based on young people to get on there and and find a platform that they're like they're pivoting away from, you know, like Jess said, Um, if you're surrounded by people that are comfortable, you're doing it wrong. Alright, well now how do I actually go and find people that are good for me?
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_01Um, and then as I was walking out, the guy that asked that question came up to me, he's like, Watch podcasts. I was like, create your own story. Or create your story, and he's like, Yeah, man, I'm gonna have a listen. So it is listen. Shout out.
SPEAKER_00It's mad that they um they bring those sort of industries together. And um I think I would I really would have benefited from that as a young fella, eh? Um hearing that lived experience. And I think, bro, if I heard someone like you speak when I was fucking 16, 15, I probably would have wanted to do youth work straight out of school as well.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was good, actually.
SPEAKER_00That's mad. That's us, cuz. Create your story.
SPEAKER_01That's us, have a great day.
SPEAKER_00Stay safe. Sashi's on the next one. Double the merits, drive safe.
