SPEAKER_01

My name is Sam Russell. My name is Jaden Wright, and this is Create Your Story. Just a quick disclaimer before we start. Or book an appointment with your GP and talk about a mental health care plan today. Let's go! We're back. Another app in the books. This is a bit of a different one. We got the the soccer roos on in the background. Um yeah, got here early. I only made it up last night, eh?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, we're at the You Matter event there, and I was thinking about it. I was like, we'd do a bit of a live stream, but we've got the second half of the Socceroos playing in the background, currently down 2-0. So if you see us, just jump around or pop off or scream or something. Headbutt something. Yeah. Headbutt each other, maybe. I don't know. Yeah, a bit of a slow start for the soccer roos and for me this morning. Hey, well, that's what I hit you up and I said, You want a coffee? Then I drove past the coffee shop. We're that early, bro. It's not even open. We're up. We're out there catting after it.

SPEAKER_01

Tell me what other podcasts is up at 5 30 in the morning.

SPEAKER_00

I was like, what the fuck are you doing on a Saturday morning? Ready to go. Mate, I was out before the postman this morning. Hey. Postman Pat. What's been happening, cars? Nah, a fair bit, actually. It's been a busy week, but it's been good, bruh. Um obviously, like I touched on there, we had the Umata, uh, was UMatter Day yesterday, um, so the inaugural UMatta Day. Um, and we had a bit of a community catch-up at um Maitland City there, which was a mad night, eh? Yeah, you bought an iPad. Uh I got stitched up. I don't know. I'm so bad in solar auctions, so I just keep putting the price down. Sam Russell, right next to me, put the price down for the iPad and the Knights jersey, and then backdoored it, and I thought of it.

SPEAKER_01

Uh I was just I was just putting it down thinking, like, I'm just gonna raise the price for him. Like, I don't really want an iPad or a jersey. That's a shame. But then I got late in and at one point there I had the iPad and the jersey, so I crossed my name out on the iPad and I thought Jib was probably a a better recipient of that.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah, so if anyone wants an iPad out there or a night sign jersey, no. Nah, we'll use it, I'll use it for business stuff. So nah, and it goes to good cause anyway. What's 450 out of my pocket, you know what I mean? No, yeah, but no, it was a mad night. Um, had Craig Semple there. Um Yeah, shout out Craig, I think it's Dr.

SPEAKER_01

Craig Semple. Dr. Craig Semple. But um I've actually listened to um him on a couple of podcasts ages ago, like last year or the year before. Um I listened to him on Zero Limits podcast with Maddie Morris. So that's a mad one if he's looking for something to listen to. Um I actually used to work with his wife, and that's kind of how I found out about it. But Craig's wife. Uh no, the Zero Limits podcast got it. Gotcha, gotcha, gotcha. So I listened to it on that, and then um I listened to it on Gary Jubilin's I Catch Killers.

SPEAKER_00

Um which we won't give too much away, but it's a mad yarn. Like he's an ex um detective, I think what, twenty fifteen, twenty years in detectives, um, led some big cases down in Sydney and sort of um western New South Wales, and he's got a real sort of touching story and that just the way he speaks is so articulate and sort of one of them people that when they speak sort of just engages the room. I'm so I'm so jealous of that because it it's such a good skill to have. I'll teach her class. Yeah, that's why I'm doing this potty. But no, like it was so sick, like um he's yarned and some of the stuff that he's done in community is so sick. And uh yeah, if you if you get any time, um we might even sort of give him a bit of a shout out on um one of our stories and sort of tap on his potties or something like that, eh?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he's got two books as well, so um have a look at them and I think we can probably all learn a bit of a lesson from it. Like he told a couple of stories, which I won't repeat, obviously that's that's his story. I'll create my own. Um but like yeah, a lot of the a lot of stuff that he spoke about, um, I personally like really resonated with because we kind of talk about like who you are, and like and I I remember the biggest thing that kind of resonated with me from what he said was um he went through a bit of PDSD and um he didn't tell anyone, he kept it a secret for like nine years. And um when he spoke to the doctors, eventually they were kind of like you could have just done five one hour sessions of professional help, and you probably would be right, like we'd be still managing it. Instead, he's done like over 300 hours of clinical help and support. So um anyone out there struggling, like if that's not a big enough reason to reach out and get that help, then yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, it was it was really good. Um I really enjoyed it and sort of a shout out to a few other people um as well that um there's a bit of a lived experience panel. So we had three people from community from here in Maitland community that sort of spoke on um some of their struggles and I guess what helps them and what's helped them through um I reckon that would be nearly one of the um one of the hardest things to do is stand up in front of your own community and talk about the shit that you've been through.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So shout out to them people. So you've got Samo. Obviously Samo's um one of the good mates of our podcast and sort of um helps me with Step and Connect, but I think that's probably the probably the most detail he's gone into his story, um, especially in that sort of setting as well. And I know um it's something that he's wanted to do for a while, and um and I don't want to sort of um sort of say too much on that, but just to see I guess the relief that come from his shoulders after and stuff like that was uh was very good for me to see. Um I think his s story is so powerful and it's just a testament to how strong of a person he is to come out the other side. That's him. But yeah, no, it was a mad night and just sort of it's good to catch up. I think um we speak when when I'm talking to you, Matt, we always speak um as people, oh we've got to catch up, we've got to do this and do that, but we never make time and I know we spoke a lot about time there last week, but um it was just good to catch up in a setting with um people and get around and have a bit of a yarn and um sort of no judgment, bit of a safe space, bro. It was really good. But other than that, um had that and just been working. Um got a couple of yarns from the week actually, but we'll we'll touch on them later on. Um but yeah, go to Bali next Wednesday. So I've just been cruising along um on holidays from from yesterday, so madness.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we um we had a pretty big event Thursday at the trade college there. We did um uh a Cut Murray. So can you explain that for people that Yeah, I'll explain it to you. Um we teamed up with um Ganus Passy, and he's got his own little company um that he's doing stuff through. So um what it is, it's kind of it's similar to a hungy. So a hungy's done underground, yeah. Um where you kind of trap the heat in and you cook it. But what you actually do is um like there's a bit of preparation, so we had to prep on the Wednesday and then uh actually it was Friday and we prepped on the Thursday. Um so yeah, this time yesterday we would have been lighting the fire, and um Thursday night we had to go and cut some some mango leaves for it as well. And um you kind of we do it across in one of the paddocks there at trade, but what you do is you um put like river rocks on the bottom because they kind of um absorb heat as well and they and they do pop and they do explode, but they do trap heat the best. Um you put a couple on the bottom as like a foundation and then you just stack wood, like jango it up so that way and then that way, then that way, then that way, until it's probably like pretty high. Like around the sides of the day. No, like on top of the rocks. Oh, yep, yep, yep, sorry. And then you just pile as many rocks as you can on top of the wood. Right. You just pile you just pile it all on. Yeah, hey, and then you just pile it all on, and then um, like then you light from the bottom, so you just like newspaper or um whatever. We actually use fire starters, but um nothing traditional about that, but um reckon you're traditional, yeah. Light it on the newspaper from underneath like the bottom of it, so it burns bottom up. Yeah, and then when all the wood burns out, all the rocks are just sitting with all the coals on the on the ground. Um traditionally, like they would actually, or not traditionally, but if they were up in the Torres Strait, they would actually dig a little bit of a hole out, but we just don't know what that ground's being treated with. So just do it on top of the surface, and then um all the rocks are really hot, and then that's kind of like there's a period of time in that where it's go time, like in between that. So while we while the fire's um doing its thing, you can prep the food. So um we had pork, big pork rolls, um, chickens, and like heaps of different veggies, carrot, pumpkin, and potato. And what you're doing with that is you get um banana leaf.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And you'll actually use coconut leaf um if you're in the toastray, but there's no coconut leaf denny. You kind of wave it around the fire, and then it'll change colour, and that makes it a little bit more malleable, so you can actually bend it. You d like debone them like their stems, and then um you kind of wrap the food. Like we marinate all the food in like garlic and ginger and soy sauce, and then you wrap the food in the leaf, and then wrap it in foil just as like an extra protector.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um and all like and then you kind of um wrap it all up while that fire's burning down, get them out sunrise, and then yeah, basically once all the wood burns down, we kind of spread the coals a little bit in the rocks, and then you go pork in the bottom, um, a few rocks on top of that, chicken, and then you do heaps of like mango leaf and the mango leaf and it um kind of gives that flavour, like smokes it. And then you put um you wet the Hessian bags down and then you put them all around the top of it, and that basically um stops it all like the leaves and everything from catching on fire and so on. Keeps the heat and shit to it. Keeps the heat in too, and then you just cover it with sand. Yeah. Um and yeah, we had to we wanted it in the ground by eight o'clock so it'd be ready about 10 30, 11. And then that part is like mad because we just sit around as a group and just watch the sand, and just if you see a bit of smoke come out of it somewhere, you just pat it down or you just put a bit of extra sand on. But you can have mad yarns. And um we did it with their their year eleven identified students, and like bruh, some of them kids were like it was probably our best group, to be honest. Five or six years now. Yeah. Um, and like they were just on the ball with everything. They were listening and and I think um really showed I guess they're probably like what would I say, how much they care about that sort of stuff. So they're very lucky to get that. Like, and there's no other school that gets that. And it's very hard to actually get something like that in a school. So shout out to them kids and trade, but um yeah, it's like a six a.m. start and then he's back to back.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, bruh. That's what you have to do when you when you're gonna be there for your community, you know. No, that's how it's mad. I did like I haven't done anything s like like that, but I know when we're living in the Northern Territory, and because kangaroo tail is like a delicacy there. Like we had like a little like where I lived in the in the remote community was about four hours southwest of Alice Springs. Um probably had 50 50 people in there, had a little shop um that sort of had most of your staff that had a clinic and a school. That's about it. And then houses. Um and you'd walk in there and there'd be big red kangaroo tails frozen in the freezer. Um and then sort of sitting down with the elders and stuff, and they taught me how to um sort of cook them on a fire, um cinch the hairs off, scrape them back, peel the peel the actual um skin back, and um they ta it tastes good, but it's it's a it's a smell and a taste that just doesn't get off your fucking hands. Yeah. Like it's just and the kids walk around like it's like an apple bright eating it, they've got it all over their face, flies and shit. But no, it's sick. We should try and do it one time. Um if anyone's gonna come in. True. There you go. You can watch me eat it. That's mad, but yeah, it's sick, but yeah, no, that sounds sick, and it's so good to see that sort of stuff, that different stuff in community, and good to see um young people engage in it because like you said, it's not many schools would get that sort of opportunity. No, that would fuck.

SPEAKER_01

Um yeah, so it's been it's been a bit hectic this week, but um grateful. Grateful. Grateful's that's another thing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I'm grateful all the time.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well I've probably gone a bit away from it. I I think listening to him last night, Craig there.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Probably something that I want to kind of bring in a little bit more, I reckon. Like I'm I'm grateful, but like actually practicing it a little bit more.

SPEAKER_00

That that's another thing that I think it was Kylie that touched on one of the lived experience uh mentors, which really stuck with me. Um and what she she said is like she um for ages, I think I'm not exactly sure what it was, but what she said was why do we stop doing things that make us feel good or bring us joy? Like there's so many things that I've done, maybe as a young fellow, or even um recently, that I do, and I'm like, fuck, this is so good. And you sort of get in that routine of making it makes you feel good, but then you you go away from it. Yeah, you think you're right, eh? I'm not yeah, I'm not sure if I'm like, oh no, I'm right now, I don't need that. I think that's what it is. Um and you go away from it, and you might even stop thinking about it, but then something will click and you're like, fuck, why did I go away from that?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I I think for me it I'll do things like that, and then I feel good, but I don't do them for long enough to actually ingrain it as like a habit sort of thing. Yeah, so I feel like that's what it is, and then once life gets hectic, we go away from it, and but then we never go back to it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So I don't know, but you got some yarns for us a lot. I got some yarns, and this is not right. I I want to just say out there, I'm not trying to be disrespectful or who, but it was just something that happened, and it was just it was just wild to me at the time. But um, we went to Charlestown Square, went to Besson Leicester, got some state of origin kit, um a bit of a jumper and stuff. And we're walking in, and I was I could smell something, and there was babies and stuff all around. Um and Ali, who I was with, she's like, oh baby, like baby must have shit herself or something like that. And then she walked away, she was getting changed. You're sitting out there saying, and I'm like, fuck, did I shit myself? Um and I was walking around and I sort of s stood near the change rooms. Um and I seen the staff walking around, and I'm like, fuck, I can still smell something there. Um and I seen the staff and they didn't realise I was there, and they're like, got their arm head up in the air, like sniffing around. They're like, Can I smell it? Can I smell it? And they looked over and someone actually took a shit in the corner of best and less. Like, and I'll when I say shit, and I don't want to make anyone feel crooked, but it was fucked. Like it was a full places. Oh, it was all through the back corner of best and less. And they've looked at me and I said, That's fucked. And she she goes, I'm not cleaning that up. I said, That's well above your pay grades. It's like shout out to best and less stuff, but that is not strong match in there. That that's not your fucking that's not your role. And I I said, Excuse me, girls, like, but I've got to walk out, like this is just too much for me right now. And so I've walked out and I was sitting there, I was just sort of laughing to myself, um, not at the person, but just at the whole scenario. And then I seen this big secie walk in, and you know, like shop seckies, they think they're the maddest things. What are they more copy? But he's walked in like strutting, like chewing his chewy, and I looked at him and I said, Bruh, you won't be walking like that much to see what's in that corner of the shop. You'll be tasting that on your chewy for the rest of the day. Buddy, if I was you, I'd turn around or grab a mop and fucking something. I'd be calling in sick. Oh, but yeah.

SPEAKER_01

That's that's a spin-out, eh?

SPEAKER_00

That was a spin-out. Who's doing their business investing less? Hey, and the wild thing is there's a toilet right next to it. I don't know if you're busting or what, but when you gotta go, you gotta go. But I'm just thinking at least do it in the change room. Joking. Nah, you can't you can't be doing that. You cannot be doing that. But that was wild to me. That sort of um yeah, it sort of took me back to my plumbing days to be honest.

SPEAKER_01

I can smell it.

SPEAKER_00

Bruh. I was right even and I could st I I wouldn't be able to talk about it. Like I couldn't talk about it that day. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So I was fucking I don't I don't think I got really any unds from the week. I think everyone's safe at the moment. I haven't last weekend I don't really I only remember. Everyone's safe at the moment. Yeah, not calling Zoe can't. Yeah, Zoe, you're right this week. Um Zoe might come on next week, maybe, or the week after.

SPEAKER_00

Well, someone needs to take his I don't know who's um who's capable to take my um my position. Yeah. Might have to do some job interviews, eh? Yeah, something like that. Just send me through your cover letter and um or or you can send through money and whoever pays the highest to No, I've got another one, but this sort of goes in line with the challenges as well. Yeah, you can tell it now. Right then. So last Sunday I was on the way to Step and Connect, picked up a bag of ice, right? And the bloke at the servo gave me a set of five keys. Um and obviously you've got to go and unlock the um the the door with the ice is in. But I reckon my secret power or whatever the whatever it is, is being able to identify off a set of keys what the lock is pretty like I'd say I reckon 90% A. Like I can just look at the key or just something and then just bang straight in first go. True. We'll have to test that out. Test it out. I'm gonna do I'm gonna test it out.

SPEAKER_01

We can do it in here. We can do it in here. Mine's flags. I told you that. Yeah. You can give me a flag, and I'm I'm pretty good at them. Like obviously there's some pretty wild countries out there that are quite small and not very reputable. Yeah. Um, they're a bit harder, but like I guess, and I'm not sitting there saying I can get Australia and USA. Like, I can there's a like, particularly the African countries and stuff where they kind of start to differ a fair bit. Like I can sometimes just look at them and just be like, Yeah, are you gonna get something up? Well, I'm just downloading the flags on the capitals of the world. If you get it up, just um whatever you do, just screen record it when you're just clip it up. Flags of the country quiz. That's what I'm gonna do. That's um you can call me Mr. Worldwide Pitbull, holy crap. Right oh, right oh right. I've got them here. But so I used to always say this, and that's I said it to Riley, and she tested it out, and she's like, Well yeah, like she's actually feet blown away.

SPEAKER_00

So well, this is like a best of four. So you've got the name and then you've got four flags, which I find's pretty hard because um the first one's Belarus. That's tough, eh?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's that one.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we'll click it, buddy. Um, these are countries I haven't even heard before. Oh, that's alright. That one is that good.

SPEAKER_01

That one is alright. That's pretty good. There's a couple in there.

SPEAKER_00

There's a couple in there. There's a little taste of it. There's a taste, but I think I want to put it out there and we'll clip this up. What do you think you're good at? Like, what's some weird things that you're good at, you reckon?

SPEAKER_01

That's just like little things that you you do and you're like, yeah. We we we um tossed out a few. Some are pretty easy that we think like getting the fuel on the dollar. I'm gun at that. Yeah, but I like I ease off the trigger and stuff. Like, yeah, but some people can't even get it to the right to the dollar.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, well, I'm used to that from back in the day when I only had 50 bucks and put fifty bucks in. 50 bucks isn't even pushing, bro. I used to get like 10. That's shame, mate. When you go in there and get five bucks of fuel. Yeah, yeah. Like, mate, you you sure you want five bucks? No, I'm just the dairy can out there. Yeah, it doesn't get paid till fuck it next week and dummy ass. Yeah. But yeah, put it out there. What's it out there? Um what else am I? Some little niche things you've come across. I don't know, just sort of that just sort of clicked to me, eh? But you know those random things you're like, but you probably just think it's you. So yeah, you could be out there and it'd be you could be the only one.

SPEAKER_01

But also sometimes you you might think that um it's just you, but everyone can do it. Or or yeah, that, or you might think that everyone can do it, but actually they can't. Yeah, that's what I mean.

SPEAKER_00

So you could be them, you could be him, yeah. Yeah, put it out there, put it out there, but no, I don't know. That we'll we'll track that up. How'd you go with your challenge? I went alright. So the challenge of this week was reading um 30 pages.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um I like reading, and honestly, it's funny that we were talking about um you always go from away from the things that um sort of bring you joy or happiness and sort of calmness.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um, I went for a stage there that I'd read before bed every night, like the last 45 to half an hour. I just put my phone down, put on D, and just read. Yeah. Um I fall asleep. Um, so I started reading The Resilience Project. Man. Um, which is a hectic, it's it's a hectic read, and um, it's something that's just been sort of sitting in my car for ages. So I'm sort of grateful that we had that challenge. Um the start is just pretty much just about a bit about his story, um, and I guess um what sort of got him to where he is and the challenges that he's had. I don't want to go into de detail too much because um Hugh Van Halenberg or something.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um but yeah, he has a mad story, and I d I think um Um I'm the type of person that if I can tell in the first probably two or three pages if I'm going to enjoy the book. Um and I can just tell the way that um I listened to the audiobook of it. Yeah, I I started doing that, but then it clicked to me. I'm like, fuck, I swear I've got this book somewhere. Yeah. Um but yeah, if you're out there, um reading's not your thing, audiobook, Resilient Project, Hugh Van Van Van Van Hugenberg or something. Um but yeah, it's mad yarn so far. Um but yeah, really enjoying that. Well I um yeah, I read two books.

SPEAKER_01

No I'm bro, I suck at reading people. Two books don't count, boy. I didn't read any book, and to be honest with ya, um I'm still waiting for Jib to give me the book. So how am I meant to read if I don't know what it's like?

SPEAKER_00

Help me get these messages up because I said, bro, you want this book? And you said fuck reading, that was good. We got um, that fucking shit.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, penalty. No, he's injured. That's a second injury that we've had. Volpado.

SPEAKER_00

Um gun. We just had a shot at goal. He's on side, he's on side. This could be a penalty. I didn't even see it. But I'm just saying it could be a penalty. Oh give it, give it a free kick. Come on, cuz.

SPEAKER_01

Come on, cuz.

SPEAKER_00

But yeah. Nah, I think um in his back.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know what they'll call with that. They probably won't. They got VAR butt, which is kind of like. I got no, I don't have don't have I don't know the rules of soccer. In the back, surely. But nah, I yeah, I need to do better. I just I just I'm so busy, I just like and then I've got to make time.

SPEAKER_00

You got the same 24 hours in the day that um I don't actually have the challenge um because we're filming off Sam's phone, uh which has the challenge up on there.

SPEAKER_01

Um maybe you just can send one in if you want.

SPEAKER_00

Send one in.

SPEAKER_01

If you've got um this is Saturday, you've got until Monday to send one in and we'll pick one or something. Yeah, I'll post it on the story. Or just first one to send one in, maybe. That's reasonable. Because we shouldn't be picking. That's reasonable, yeah. Don't like not like taking a look at the.

SPEAKER_00

And I go to Bali on Wednesday, so I'll have to send a voice message in. Um, yeah, we'll we'll put that on a thing. But I'll show you get up. What I'll keep sending you South Wales, maybe. What else do we have? PTSDA. Um, what else do we have? I wanted to have another yarn actually. And this is rogue, and I've only the other day, me and Samuel and Corey were talking a little um I didn't bring it up, but they're like, what's something that you've actually never told any like you've just never told anyone? And I'm like, fuck, but I can't I honestly can't think of anything. I would exclusives, um but they were trying to get I don't know what they end up saying. Obviously, I wouldn't out them yeah. Um I probably would actually if I could remember. But mine is rogue, right? And this is people are probably gonna look at me like I'm a freak, but this wasn't a bad time of my life. Um a couple of my mates um a couple of my mates working the pits, and I know what it's like to have sort of a big weekend and then having to go back working in the mines. Um it's just had noise central, I think. And when I was working in the mines, it would have been probably 2020 or maybe probably 2019 actually. Um we had a Chrissy party. And for anyone that knew me in 2019 and the way I used to carry on on the pierce, um, you didn't really want to be around, like honestly, yeah, but my ADHD, my brain just I just flick a switch and I'm just it's like I'm in a whole different world. But I ended up playing up a treat at my boss's house in front of everyone. True. Maybe ended up Starkers, maybe Stark's like a nude. Oh, true. Riding a bike around inside. And bro, we had two weeks off after that. And so that two weeks, I'm like, oh yeah, fuck bro. I still got two weeks.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And it came down to the night before, and I'm like, I honestly cannot face these blokes. A but probably didn't sleep the whole night. Yeah. Didn't sleep, I reckon. Maybe well just tossed and turned thinking, whoa, what are they gonna say? This and that. That morning I got up, I'm like, how the fuck can I get out? Like, I'm thinking, hell I can't have a sicky, right? How do I get out of this bar? I'm in this yeah, I'm in this yeah having a shower. I'm like, fuck this. I'm gonna pretend to slip over and like land on my elbow and try and fuck my elbow so I don't have to go to work. That's hectic. So I'm on the ground, I'm like looking at my elbow, I'm like fucking trying to hurt myself. So I'm not facing this music.

SPEAKER_01

That's wild. That's head noise.

SPEAKER_00

That is head noise. But it got me thinking that's sort of off that, but like, what's the wildest sicky excuse or roguest sick excuse? You probably don't have any because you don't really have them.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I I I it's weird because I understand the people that are like, you know what, I'm so run down, I just want a sick year, and I I get and that's totally fine. Like, but I don't know, bruh. I like I started here I feel bad. I started back at Youth Express in November and I haven't had a sick day since then. Um I've just not one for it. Well, I do have a bit of a story, but when like They should be giving you a pay rise. When I first started um work at when I graduated school, I just needed a job. Um, and I was working down there at that call centre. Uh I think I told you that in the pot in my potty, but um, like, bruh, we're selling hot these holidays um for people, and I got my best mate a job there, so we're just selling these holidays to people, bruh. Like, what do you mean selling holidays? So you ring them up, and like they'd be like, We've got selling holidays. But they'd be like, Oh, we've got five nights at the luxury resort in Port Stevens. So you're one of those folks that just fucking hang up with them. Um yeah, that's it. So um, like did that, and well, some of them, like depending on what script that they gave you for that day, you might be selling them in WA. True. And they would be like, bruh, you know that I live in Darwin. I'll be like, cuz like down the road, like and like they would never um check their numbers, so like I've called hospitals, I've called police stations, like they wouldn't actually go through and like media mediate any of it. So like there was times in that job that I hung up on people, like I'd be like, nah, cuz and then Raymond Terrace Police Station like what when we decided that we were quitting, it was probably like lunchtime, and I said to my mate, I was like, I'm not I'm not coming back, and he's like, Yeah, I'm done with this. So we were like, let's go up there for the second half of it, and we won't call anyone, we'll just pretend to call people. So we're just reading the script out and not calling anyone. Um went home that night, and I didn't even tell her that I was quitting. I just blocked her on blocked her messages and just never came again.

SPEAKER_00

See if you're out there listening um and you're still selling holidays.

SPEAKER_01

I can't remember her name, but she was a Grong. I got her that male bruh. I sell that many holidays for her, and she kept trying to cheat me for stuff. I'm like, you gave me like 45 minutes training on the script. Job's not that serious, yes. Yeah, honestly.

SPEAKER_00

Just relax a little bit, man.

SPEAKER_01

Sell your own holiday, sell your own fucking shit.

SPEAKER_00

Um, what do you want to get into some quotes? Yeah, you got a quote for the week because I got a mab one. Yeah, I do actually. I screenshot a one. Where is it? You go yours.

SPEAKER_01

My quote for this week is be the the be the hero of your own story. And I'll I'll come up with that last night. Um, or maybe someone said it. Someone definitely said it.

SPEAKER_00

And you said, Oh, that's gonna be my quote for the week. Come up with it last night. That's wild. Yeah, but I think it's just in that context, but I it's sort of things with us clicking.

SPEAKER_01

Like like the way the the reason I want to talk about it is because uh and what it means to me is like some some there'd be people out there that grow up with role models in their families or in their networks that they want to be like, but there's a lot of people out there that grow up around people they don't want to be like. Yeah, um, and I think the way our society is at the moment, um we're very, very quick to complain about stuff without being grateful, like we spoke about before. We're also very quick to um like if someone says what's your strength, you'll be like, mmm. But then someone says, like, what's your weakness? You could name like five things in 30 seconds. So I think I don't know what the percentage would be, but majority of society, I reckon probably even 80% of society gets stuck in times regularly, or probably more often than not, where they're the villain of their own story, and what I mean by that is that their own negative self-talk and their own um negative perception of themself and their self-esteem is making is making them be the villain of their own story, where um I think that you need to kind of flip that flip that switch. Um and the way that you talk to yourself and the way that you word things is very, very important for your own um chemistry of your brain and the way you believe it. And Craig had like one of the best examples of that where um people would ask him why he's not in the cops, and he'd sort of say, I suffer from PDSD. Then after a while, he was like, I need to stop wording it like this. I live with PDSD. So if you're out there and you're struggling with um, you know, diagnosis, anxiety, depression, ADHD, any of that sort of thing, like think about how you're wording it.

SPEAKER_00

Um on that too, um, yeah, that was a mad yarn by Craig, but sort of on that wording stuff, and I know like reading um Atomic Habits, yeah, they talk about um he was an ex-smoker, yeah, and for ages he was like people just smoke around and goes, and like, oh, you want one? He goes, No, I don't smoke anymore. No. Um yeah, I don't I don't smoke anymore anymore. But then he ended up trying to say, um, I'm not a smoker. Yeah, true. And just changing that whole thing, though, because if you say I don't smoke anymore, you're still thinking you like you still sort sort of sound like you want one. Yeah, or you you might get one, yeah. Yeah, but then I don't smoke. It's just bad.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and the even the same with drinking, where it's like, um, I don't drink, or I'm off it, or I'm not drinking.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, I'm off the beers. Nah, that's mad. I like that. That's mad that you made that up last night. That's sick.

SPEAKER_01

I only got the quote from that person. Um put everything else together.

SPEAKER_00

I got one. Um if everyone in the world wrote down their problems and put them in a hat, would you risk grabbing one or keeping yours?

SPEAKER_01

It's wild that you bring this up because I um I was in the office here two, three weeks ago, and there was a few people standing around, and I'd read that exact same thing. Oh, really? Yeah. We're telepathic. Yeah. No, well, I would um I think that's mad. I think I'd pick out of the hat because I'm I got balls. Yeah, I wouldn't.

SPEAKER_00

I'd keep my own bar, and and that's the moral of the story, isn't it? That's the moral of the story, is is um I guess you you never know what some other people are going through. And yeah, even like we sort of spoke about it last night, you had three people from community that if you walk past them in the street or had a conversation with them, yeah, you'd have no idea about the stuff that they've been through. Yeah. Um and I talk about it a lot. Um I volunteered a bit um at some services of a Saturday night um for the less fortunate. Um and sort of I used to be bad, but I just driving past someone um and being like, fuck, what are you doing? Yeah, why are you homeless?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, true.

SPEAKER_00

But I was sitting down and listening to their stories like fuck.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, like that's why. Yeah, I know. And I was um having like the Mattis Yarn last night to Nat Hayes and shout out, um, yeah, shout out to two beautiful ladies. Um talking to them two last night before the event was like you've been trying to do this puzzle for so long, and I just found the last piece. And not not that I've been trying to work their lives out, but just like everything like so many so much of like a bit of you matter or even like certain things just come together because obviously she puts the quotes in and it kind of all um it all made sense to me last night, but um I can't remember where I was going with this, but what what did you say before that? Um Bro now you're fucking me up. Yeah, that's right. But we were having a Mattis Yarn.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think they just bring both them two just bring so much like warmth to the room.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, there was something that um or we were kind of talking about like um the purpose of creating our podcast, and I was saying to her, like, you know, I know so many people in community that are absolutely killing it and doing like the most amazing jobs, but if they went out and hit the drugs hard and ended up living that lifestyle where they were like fully like you know, drug riddled, everyone around would be like, Oh, that's so sad, but yeah, I can see why it's happened because of what they've been through. But like it doesn't really matter at the end of the day what's happened, like you you get an opportunity when you get into that adulthood where you can change that a little bit. Um so yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Craig mentioned something about I can't remember exactly like um and it was the wording as well about trauma, yeah. Um post-traumatic post-traumatic uh opportunity or something. Yeah, growth, growth growth. Yeah, um, yeah. So using um the things that you've been through um instead of using as a negative is to push you and food you're on the fight and be positive. Yeah, I'll read one out. Um there's yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um this one is from uh Marley Wright. Shout out. Shout out. She might have to start paying me. Simple but effective. You can't be what you can't see. I like it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and we just spoke a little bit about role models, so yeah, we just spoke a little bit about it, but and you can sort of look at it in two different ways. Um you're looking at it as young people that probably don't have those positive role models um in their life. Um which I guess that's sort of I guess what we're trying to do in community too, Sam, is fucking is be those positive role models for those young people that don't have um and people to look up to. But on the flip side of that as well, is like if you're hanging around with fuckwits and you want to be up here, you're never gonna get there.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and I think also it's like um I I'll also say to that, is like if you want to achieve something or you want to do something, go and find someone who's done it or doing it and then talk to them about it. Yeah, and that'll help. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, push the series for that. Um got another one. We'll do one more, then we'll do a quote of the week. Yeah. Um, we'll do a couple more, sorry. This one's uh from Eloisa, she sent a few in. Love your work. Have to catch up soon. Um her quote is forgive yourself for not knowing earlier what only time could teach. That's mad. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

We did a lot about time last time.

SPEAKER_00

As I was gonna say, time is everything.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, can you read it again? Forgive yourself for not knowing earlier what only time could teach. Yeah, hundreds. I think it I think it goes for me, it's like you don't have to have everything fucking worked out right now. Yeah. If you're going through something and you're like, oh, I need to get his foot sorted, this and that. Um could be anything, um, could be work-related, could be just personal growth. Um, you don't have to have everything sorted right now. Um time heals things, but time also allows you to grow as a person and sort of learn on the way.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and I think with that as well, you might do something and you'd be like, Oh, I wish I did this earlier, I should have done it earlier. You might have done it earlier and not liked it, or you might might not have been ready for it yet. So I think allowing that time's always always a good thing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um got another one from Jay Garside, um, which is is simple as well, but it's mind over matter. Yeah, I'll I have that tattooed on me. True.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

What's your meaning behind like what is that?

SPEAKER_01

I got that tattooed on me on um pr on my um and this is wild, like it only worked out to be like this. But the day the so the the day I was meant to get tattooed was um whatever day it was, and then they were like, Oh, we can't do it. Um the tattooists had something come up or whatever. So I think it got pushed back a week and it landed on the first year anniversary of my nan passing away.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, like when you got the tattoo.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And were you always gonna get that? Yeah. Yeah, true, that is wild.

SPEAKER_01

I wanted that for ages, and for me it was just it's just as simple as like if you can't prepare your mind for what's gonna happen, then you can't expect to physically be able to follow through with that. And it can literally be in any form that you need it to be. Like um when you think about everything that you do, your brain has to play a role in that. Because there is not one thing in this world that you not one action, not one thing that you do that doesn't process through your brain. And that's kind of like a very deep version of it, but it's as simple as um whatever the the matter is and whatever it is that you need to overcome, um, it's always your mind um that will beat whatever that is. And um, bruh, the biggest thing, like obviously um I've spoken quite openly about like the stuff my mum my my mum went through with her stroke and stuff, um, and the doctors being like, you know, you probably can't do that job again, like she had to like she couldn't really like talk and stuff in the early stages, and then her telling me that like part of the reason why she made such a quick recovery and a full recovery was because she's sitting there thinking, like, I can't be like this forever, and that is the epitome of mind over matter. Um and then like even like you hear all these mad stories about it, and um even like my auntie when she was early 20s, I think, or maybe teens, but um, she had like an aneurysm and um I think it ruptured or something and she had to learn how to walk and talk and everything again, bruh. And I like that crazy and you wouldn't um you wouldn't kind of know and like know that happened. So I guess like throughout my whole life, um I've had examples of kind of people overcoming stuff through their their brain. But like um Yeah, if you like get an opportunity to um look at like when when I was kind of transitioning out of um drinking every weekend and doing that into just understanding a little bit more, um I I was always like looking at different things and one of them was like the secret, and like I'm I'm not fully committed to that kind of side, but it was just mad to like I think I read the book, yeah, um listen to it as well, and then um yeah, there's actually heaps heaps of good resources out there that like logic and like Drake and like all these people talk about like different things, so yeah, yeah, love it simple simple and effective, simple and effective boy. Quiet of the week, Quiet of the Week. I'll read it out because this lad, shout out to Dil, Dill, my brother. Um my brother's actually named Dil. Yeah, Dil Holloway. He's he's always um yeah, he's always um messaging me like when's the potty coming out? Like sad day. Oh why? Because that's the only time I can do it, cuz Dill! What's it? You wanna sponsor us or what?

SPEAKER_00

Uh actually, Dill, you want to get on this potty? Yeah, so I appreciate the support.

SPEAKER_01

I think last week he's like, oh well, I'm on and on a Monday or Tuesday. So when I'm going to work, I'm like, cuz we'll don't listen to it on Saturday or Sunday. And you can have it for a Monday or a Tuesday. Nah, I'm a man of the people.

SPEAKER_00

We've got to give the fans what they want.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, nah, is he's a big supporter. So respect. Um he said to me, I think it was a week or so ago, he's like, I got I got a quote and I said, send it in. He's like, nah. Like, I I don't really like he doesn't really do stuff like that. So um, yeah, this week he's into me from Monday. He's like, When's the when's post going up? I was like, and then he messaged me um Thursday, he's like, He's putting this up or what? Yeah, tonight cut. I love it. Um but he would have remembered. I don't know if I I told Ian, but I think I told Ian in one of the early episodes of um him falling off one of the e-scooters up in Brizzy. Yeah, um, and yeah, he's he's a cracker. But this is his quote We do not wait for things to happen, rather, we make them happen.

SPEAKER_00

Call of the week.

SPEAKER_01

That's good. I like that. That's mad. There's so many people that get stuck in waiting.

SPEAKER_00

Waiting for what, but yeah, but nothing's gonna come for you. Yeah, hundreds, or even like waiting for the perfect time. You're like, oh, I could have went then, but oh, it's not perfect, but just fucking do it. Yeah, it's something that I've had to work on, especially with business stuff, yeah, and maybe just even like personal stuff, it's like bro, just try it out. Yeah, you sit there and waiting, you could be waiting, you'll be waiting, bro. You'll be waiting till Socceru score a goalie, which could be four years.

SPEAKER_01

That might be next World Cup, four years. Holy.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, we could be on it, go.

SPEAKER_01

No, you motherfucking Um, yeah. So I love that. Love that from you, Dil. I think um I've always said this. I've always said that half of society uh they find a mad job, they like it, they're comfortable, they'll sit in it for the rest of their lives, and that's alright to do that. But the other half will climb ranks, they'll climb up the ladder and they'll always look to um upskill themselves and grow. I think it's probably that kind of probably sums it up a little bit. Like, are you gonna wait around for things to come or are you gonna get after 'em and and do what you're gonna do? Things don't come to you.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Like unless you're active.

SPEAKER_01

I hate that quote, things come to those who wait or whatever. Good thing.

SPEAKER_00

Nothing was can we banish that from like that off and make do who's out there saying that? Dill, put copyright on this one and just just make your own quote. Make your create t shirts, Dill.

SPEAKER_01

I'll help you design a t-shirt.

SPEAKER_00

Fuck that. Fuck waiting. Don't wait. Yeah. Get out there and get after it.

SPEAKER_01

I think um Well, literally, when you think about waiting and you think about this quote, remember the quote the quote of the week from last week. There's graveyards full of people that thought they had more time.

SPEAKER_00

What are you waiting for? What are you waiting for?

SPEAKER_01

That's good.

SPEAKER_00

That's good. Cheers, Dil, shout out, bruh. If you're gonna get those t-shirts made up, send something for a bit of potty, bruh. That's mad.

SPEAKER_01

Mad. What what do you reckon the t-shirts would look like? Just big, big clock on them. Yeah. Just probably just we we don't wait. We don't wait for a note. Oh, I've swore so much in this potty, sorry, guys. I'm just giving you a business idea, Dil, so get after it. Hey, we might even be able to sponsor us. Yeah. We don't wait. Yeah, we don't wait, guys. Undo things on my time.

SPEAKER_00

Weekend, what's on for the weekend? Weekend, bro, weekend. Saturday morning. After this, we'll go grab a coffee and um Might even get some Recky. Yeah, bro. I'm feeling I don't know. I'll eggs on toast, me aren't. I'm feeling a bit crooked me.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

No, it's just like if I don't eat when I first get up, then I I'll lose my tab no appetite. Appetite. Yeah. Uh but I might just get a toasty or something. Yeah. Maybe like a a soy bowl or something. Never had a side bowl in my life. Something simply. Something simply. He talks about something that's got about nine ingredients. Bro, I've done it.

SPEAKER_01

Are we going to score a goalie or what?

SPEAKER_00

Oh brother's doing my head in. But no, I've got um shout-out samos. Oh, these bar can I just say something? I'm just gonna say it, right? I'm not a soccer fan at all at all, but anything that Australia do, it could be fucking water polo. Water polo. Um, what's that one? Bocci. Could be fucking boy. Bocci. Bocci's a mad game, actually. Bring that back. Does that still exist?

SPEAKER_01

They I don't know. You're not thinking of that Gaelic football.

SPEAKER_00

No, I'm not thinking about that. No, you know bocci butt. How you'd have the white ball and you'd have the coloured water and the balls have water in them, the plastic ones. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You'd have a little metal one. Um, I'd support them, but if you're gonna carry on for a penalty when you're an Australian and roll around on the floor, I guess that's what they all do, isn't it? The NRL's a bit like that nowadays. Yeah, you are right. But I yeah, it's no respect to them. Score a goal. Surely beat fucking America.

SPEAKER_01

Do something hectic.

SPEAKER_00

When's when's a Paraguay game? Um I don't know. I think well we played last Sunday, so is it weekly? Like it might be around the weekend. Um it does look packed there.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because it's in America.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Which is which is weird to me.

SPEAKER_01

I d bro, I honestly hate the multi-culture or well, well, pause. Fucking weird. Pause. I actually hate the multi-country hosting, like America, Canada. Yeah, it's like America, Canada, and something else. Like South America, maybe. I don't like that.

SPEAKER_00

I feel like the World Cup should be a festival of the support sport, and then just putting say if it was in Oz or the reason they do that is because like should I add them?

SPEAKER_01

Probably not. I would certain countries can't come to America.

unknown

True.

SPEAKER_01

They gotta play all their games in Canada. Yeah, true. True. Nigeria, Iraq, like maybe not Nigeria, just drive-by's on Nigeria. But you know, there's certain like country conflicts. Yeah. Um definitely probably Russia if they're in it. Yeah. Um, so then that's why they do it. Gotcha. But people are talking about Australia hosting, but it would probably be like Australia, Japan, New Zealand or something. Which doesn't make sense because what were you gonna go to Japan? Like Yeah. For like we it's not like it's around the corner.

SPEAKER_03

Oh.

SPEAKER_01

Um there's a few yellow Aussie fans there.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, there's a massive group there, and there's a massive group behind us too. Um what we yarning about? Oh, fuck nose, I'll just yarn shit. Oh, just for the weekend. Weekend, no. Yeah, do that. We'll go get we'll go get a feed, and then um I've got Samo's 30th on today. I I I'm not sure. You got something like that.

SPEAKER_01

I've got a I'm going I think I'm going to that um viral food fest in New E. Oh, that sounds right. Whereabouts is it? I don't know. Might just go with Riley and just do what you told you.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

No, do that. Out at um full photo full throttle. Full photal word. Full four word bar. Full thought of ranch out at um, yeah, wherever that is.

SPEAKER_01

Bruh, just quickly, um, have you seen um that oh actually we'll yarn about it off body. Don't worry. Explicit content. Yeah. No, if you want to join the Patreon and you want to pay for our I was actually just gonna say, I'll just say I don't care. Like, um, have you seen all that drama around the bad apple stuff and the newy? Like everyone just gone off head. That's hectic. I um like, what are we doing?

SPEAKER_00

I actually come on, I actually pulled a couple of boys up from that because they were posting it, and I said, bruh, I said, what is this? And they told me, and these are young people that I've looked after and not looked after, that's a shit, um, worked within community and that I've got strong connections with, yeah, and I can have these sort of open conversations with. And I'm like, bruh, what the fuck are you doing? Yeah. Like, do you know how embarrassing this this is? Like, not only for newy, bruh, but for yourself. Like, you're gonna look back in ten years or five years, or maybe even two, yeah. And think, what am I doing? It's not tough at all. It makes us look stupid, and you've got grown men and grown women fighting around. Yeah. Petsy in. You see Starbucks open in Ruddo? I did, actually. Was it like the first night last night? Thursday, I think. Brah. We when me and Samo drove past there on the way to um Maitland City last night. The lineup was out the door. Like around the thing, but I've never I'm I don't think we've ever had Starbucks.

SPEAKER_01

Line up from Method.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, the lineup from fucking uh Talara Lagoon.

SPEAKER_01

I don't think I have either, because it's only in Sydney, but yeah, one sus in it. I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. Is it just that one of those brands that like people just get just to put photos on Insta? Yeah, and it's not actually good. Yeah. But it can't be Acacia dining coffee for me, Hunk. Family. Actually, Rex and Friends as well. Shout out Rex and Friends. Also, don't go shouting at competitors. Also, um, I don't know when you will listen to this, but I'm gonna post it on my story. It's Rex and Friends one year anniversary tomorrow. True. Um so at 8 30 they'll be having live music at Rex and Friends at Maitland. Um I'm gonna try to get as many people there.

SPEAKER_01

But also come to Step and Connect instead.

SPEAKER_00

Also come to Step and Connect and we'll go over there as a group. Yeah, mad. Um but yeah, just cruising. Yeah, yeah. Um like I said, I've got I don't work until I go to um you know until I go to Bali on Wednesday. Um but I've just got a lot of um computer stuff to admin stuff to tie um tidy up and I've got a few things in the works. I don't want to share it on the potty yet. Um but watch your space. She's all atmin and buy. Um but yeah, just do that, spend some time with family. Um was good to see mum and stuff last night, but Marley and my little nephew Nella's coming down on Tuesday, so it'd be good to see them before I go as well. But what about yourself bread?

SPEAKER_01

Just same, same for me.

SPEAKER_00

Your footy?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, uh lakes today. Yeah, cruise out there this morning, and then um Yeah, probably just kick back to that thing tonight. That's it, that's it. Also, can we get something going on there? Because like trying to leave like that netball facility on an afternoon, like You're fucked every way. Well I went I was going out um Well, unless you're going to Gillow. I was going out through the park though the other day. That's um to go towards Gillow and it it was so packed so I just did a UI and went the other way and it was packed.

SPEAKER_00

I definitely what I'd definitely go around.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, anyways.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so if you listen to this Philip Penfold, um, can we get some more parking out there, bro? Phil, stop getting Yeah, come get a photo.

SPEAKER_01

Come get a photo of this with us of this bottleneck and create your story, boy. Yeah, no, but that's it really. That's for the week, I think. That's it.

SPEAKER_00

So I won't be here next week. Um I'll be living it up in Bali. I'll be back the following Thursday, so we'll be able to do that.

SPEAKER_01

We can do a zoom call over there. Yeah, no.

SPEAKER_00

Umkeys over there kicking back.

SPEAKER_01

We'll get someone, we'll get someone on maybe Zoe Khan should be the first option. I'll just have a no. So if we come in here next week and it's not Zoe, you know she rejected the the opportunity.

SPEAKER_00

No, she acts like she's not busy, she's got each time, and then I ask if she's can't do something, and then it's like, oh no, I've actually got this one. Oh this one I've got flying to Brisbane. I've got a now on a Wednesday night at fucking 12 30.

SPEAKER_01

Hey. Boy. No. Not bad for the unemployed. Nah. They're just running it out. Nah, she's she's in between jobs and and moment. Oh nah, nah. Actually, I can run it down because um she rang me yesterday and then she was gonna ring me back, and she never did.

SPEAKER_00

So I can't run it down because I do that to her. Yeah, true.

SPEAKER_01

And a lot of other people by the sounds of things I do.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, sorry. I always have my I get in the zone, bro, when I put my phone on D and I don't want anyone to disturb me. And if if I don't get you call, then I don't get you call, I'm sorry. I should be better.

SPEAKER_01
