Some goodbyes don’t come with closure.
No final conversation. No apology. No explanation. Just silence.
In this episode of we’re talking about the kind of goodbye that lingers long after someone is gone. The goodbye that leaves you searching for answers you’ll never receive.
Together, we’ll explore why we hold on, how to stop waiting for the closure someone else may never give, and what it truly means to choose peace over unanswered questions. Because healing doesn’t begin when someone finally explains themselves . Your healing begins the moment you decide your future is no longer waiting on their words.
If you’ve ever struggled to let go, replayed conversations in your mind, or wondered how to move forward without the ending you hoped for, this conversation is for you.
Presence over noise ….always
Can I ask you something? Have you ever had to say goodbye without actually saying goodbye? No final conversations, no apology, no explanation, no hug, no I wish you well, just silence. And somehow, silence can be one of the loudest things you ever hear. Maybe you've replayed the conversation in your mind, wondering what you would have said, or wondering what they would have said, or wondering if one more conversation could have changed everything. If you've ever carried a goodbye that never really happened, this conversation is for you. Welcome back to Quiet Power with Sunshine. I'm Sunshine. If this is your first time here, I'm so glad you found us. This is where we have honest conversations about healing, relationships, confidence, purpose, and business, and becoming the best version of ourselves, not loudly, but intentionally, because around here we choose presence over noise, peace over proving ourselves, and purpose over popularity. Before we begin, here's today's quiet power truth. Closure isn't always something you're given. Sometimes it's something you choose. Today we're talking about the hardest goodbye, the one that was never spoken. I've learned something about goodbyes. The hardest ones aren't always the ones where someone walks away. Sometimes the hardest goodbyes happen when someone slowly becomes a stranger, when the phone calls stop, when the conversations become shorter, when the effort changes, when you can feel the relationship slipping away, but nobody talks about it. Those are the goodbyes that stay with us because our minds keep searching for an ending. As human beings, we like endings. We finish books, we finish movies, we finish conversations, we like knowing how the story ends, but life doesn't always give us that. Sometimes the chapter ends without the last page. I remember a season in my life when I kept waiting for one final conversation, not because I wanted to argue, not because I wanted to be right, I just wanted understanding, I wanted clarity, I wanted to hear. This is why. Maybe you wanted that too. Maybe you've waited for a phone call that never came, a text message that never arrived, an apology that was never spoken. For a long time I thought healing would begin after I got those answers. Then one day I realized something. I had placed my peace in someone else's hands. That's a heavy place to leave your peace, because if they're not unwilling to give you closure, you stay emotionally connected, waiting, hoping, wondering, and life keeps moving. Have you ever written a letter in your mind, not with a pen, but in your thoughts? You think, if I ever get one more chance, I'll finally tell them how much they hurt you, how much you love them, how disappointed you were, or how much you wanted things to be different. I've written those letters in my head, and maybe you have too, but here's what I discovered. Sometimes the letter isn't for them, it's for you. Sometimes the healing isn't found in the final saying it. Sometimes the healing comes when you no longer need to. That's quiet power. I think one of the hardest things to accept is not every story gets a perfect ending. Not every relationship gets closure. Not every friendship gets repaired, and not every dream comes true exactly the way we imagine. But that doesn't mean our story is over. Sometimes it simply means God is writing a new chapter, and we can't rereading the last one. So why is it so hard to let go? I don't think it's because we can't move on. I think it's because we keep waiting for something that never comes. One more phone call, one more conversation, one more apology, one more explanation, we tell ourselves, if I could just understand why, or if I would if if they would just acknowledge what happened, or if they would just say they're sorry, then maybe I finally have peace. But what if peace was never supposed to depend on someone else's words? What if the closure you've been waiting for isn't coming from them? What if it's coming from the decision you make today? I remember thinking maybe one day they'll call, maybe one day they'll explain, or maybe one day they'll realize what happened. And for a while, I kept a little piece of my heart waiting, not because I wanted them back, but because I wanted the ending to make sense. Have you ever felt that way? You weren't necessarily asking for another chance. You were simply asking for understanding. Then one day it hit me. I had been putting my healing on hold, waiting for someone else's decision. I wasn't stuck because they had left. I was stuck because I was waiting, waiting for words, waiting for answers, waiting for permission to move forward, and finally I realized I didn't need permission. I needed acceptance. Acceptance that some people will never explain themselves. Some people will never apologize, and some people will never understand the impact they have on your life. And as painful as that is, your healing cannot depend on what someone else chooses not to give. Have you ever noticed how our minds replay old conversations? You think, maybe I should have said this, maybe I should have stayed, or maybe I should have left sooner, or maybe if I had done one thing different. Can I tell you something? Be gentle with yourself. You made the best decision you could with the information, the strength, and the healing you had at that time. We all wish we knew then what we knew now. But that's how growth works. Growth gives us wisdom after the lesson, not before. So stop punishing yourself for not being the version of you that exists today. Someone once told me closure is overrated at first. I didn't agree with them. I thought, no, closure is everything. But now I understand what that meant. Because closure isn't always a conversation. Sometimes closure is waking up one morning and realizing you didn't think about them first. Closure is smiling again. Closure is making plans for your future instead of replaying your past. Closure is laughing without feeling guilty. Closure is finally believing that your life didn't end when that chapter did.
SPEAKER_00Sometimes closure looks a little quieter than we imagined. So here's today's quiet power truth.
SPEAKER_01Healing begins the moment you stop waiting for someone else to finish your story. Because your story still has chapters left, beautiful chapters, unexpected chapters, chapters filled with peace, purpose, joy, people who choose you and opportunities you can't even see yet.
SPEAKER_00I want to talk about what finally helped me let go.
SPEAKER_01Not all at once, but little by little. Because moving on isn't about forgetting, it's about making room for the what's next.
SPEAKER_00And that's what real what real healing's about.
SPEAKER_01So how do we actually move forward? Because letting go sounds beautiful until you're the one who has to do it. The truth is, moving on isn't one decision. It's a series of small decisions. It's walking, wake, it's waking up every day and choosing not to reopen a womb that's trying to heal. It's choosing peace, even when your heart still has questions. I know that's easier said than done because there are days you'll miss that person, days you'll miss the memories, days you'll miss who you thought they were, and that's okay. Healing doesn't mean you never think about them. Healing means they no longer have the power to keep you from living. Without living in it, one of the biggest lessons I've learned is that two things can be true at the same time. You can be grateful for what someone taught you and still know they weren't meant to stay. You can love the memories without wanting the relationship back. You can forgive someone without giving them access to your life again. And you can miss someone without going back to what broke you. That's what maturity looks like. Not pretending it never mattered, but accepting that not everything that mattered was meant to last forever. Can I challenge you with something? Maybe the goodbye you've been waiting to say isn't to another person. Maybe it's the version of yourself who kept waiting, the version of yourself who believed you weren't enough, the version who blamed yourself for everything, the version who kept asking, why wasn't I enough? Can I answer that? You're enough. You always were. Sometimes people leave because they're on a different path. Sometimes people leave because they aren't ready. And sometimes people leave because they make choices we don't understand. But their decision is not a measurement of your value. Your worth was never determined by who stayed or who left. Your worth has always been yours. Don't let one goodbye convince you that your story's over. Sometimes the end of one chapter is the beginning of a life you've been praying for. Before I finish today, I want to speak directly to the person listening who feels like they've carried, they're carrying a goodbye that was never said. Maybe you're sitting in the car, maybe you're walking, or maybe you're floating laundry, or maybe you're just lying in bed, wondering if you'll ever feel like yourself again. I want you to hear me. You are not behind. You are not forgotten. You are not too broken to heal. This chapter may have changed you, but it doesn't get to define you. There is still joy ahead. There is still purpose ahead. There are still people you'll laugh with, dream with, guild with, and there is still a version of you that you haven't even met yet. Don't stop before you meet them. This week, instead of asking, why didn't they choose me? Ask yourself, how can I choose myself today? Maybe choosing yourself looks like resting. Maybe it looks like praying. Maybe it looks like starting that business. Maybe it looks like applying for that job, or maybe it looks like going to therapy, or maybe it simply looks like smiling again without feeling guilty. Whatever it is, take one step because healing rarely happens in giant leaps. It happens one peaceful decision at a time. If today's conversation spoke to your heart, share it with someone who's caring a goodbye they never got to say. Someone who needs to know that healing doesn't begin when someone finally apologized. Healing begins when you decide we're no longer waiting for someone else to write the ending. If Quiet Power with Sunshine has become a place where you feel seen, I would love for you to follow the podcast and leave reviews. Help this conversation reach someone who quietly is fighting a battle. And every person listening today, thank you. Thank you for trusting me with your time. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your healing journey. And I don't take it lightly. And just remember presence over noise always.
