Welcome Back And Meet Dale Blue

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

What's up, guys? We're back and you're listening to Swifty Podcast. We hope you're not sick of us yet because we're on a roll, and honestly, I don't care if you are or not.

SPEAKER_02

Our next guest is an entertainer, a businessman, and a living legend at the Lake of the Ozarks. He has a lot of friends, but no shoes. His favorite cuddler, oddly enough, orange. He made us take a survey. Ladies and gentlemen, it says slam em Dale Blue in the house.

SPEAKER_01

Now I can't believe you had to have a piece of paper to write all that down on. It's Dale Blue, right?

SPEAKER_06

Dale blue.

SPEAKER_02

Slam 'em. Now we might as well get the sponsor out of the way. In case you can figure it out, the sponsor today, lovely enough, is Malagro. They went hard. And it's delicious. It's so good. You got to think of tequila?

SPEAKER_01

Well, yeah. Malagro flavors that hell yeah. Orange is not my favorite color, bro.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

We were just getting it. Where the hell did you get that?

SPEAKER_02

That was online. It's on your Wikipedia. Really? No, I'd be like, I'll get the correction on that. I I knew I should have written it down.

SPEAKER_01

Very messed up. Oh, why is it your favorite stuff? That's my favorite tequila, absolutely. This now, right now, at the moment. Last year. Almost a year now. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Just they wanted to make sure you we had plenty.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I know. They got they knew I was coming. They got me the tequila. They got everything ready for me. We got everything in some bloodline. We're ready to go. Production girl.

SPEAKER_02

Production girl. Getting good. We got pillows in case we need it. I got my pillow right here. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Just in case. Just in case Reese always gets ruined the orange one next week.

SPEAKER_02

We threw that pillow after Reese's podcast. Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_01

Well, that one with the leopard's kind of orange. That's kind of orange. Your favorite pillow? There you go. Look at that. You just need something bigger, huh? I'm not bragging. I'm just saying.

SPEAKER_05

I mean you should.

SPEAKER_01

So what are we doing? Guys, what are we doing?

SPEAKER_05

We're chilling, man.

SPEAKER_02

Chilling. I think you start

Growing Up As The Lake Changed

SPEAKER_02

at the the beginning of it. I mean, everyone knows you as the owner of the fishing co. They know you was the barefoot entertainer. Where does this all start? Where the hell do you come from?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

From right down at Kaiser Moe.

SPEAKER_06

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. About a mile and a half past Lowe's. Hey.

unknown

Not very far away.

SPEAKER_01

Not very far at all. Yeah, this hillbilly bill. You know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah. Of course it wouldn't be in a Lowe's if it wasn't for a little buddy.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I'll tell people when they when they bitch and moan, they've been here all their life. They bitch and moan because of all the traffic and all the boats and all the houses. And I go, Well, hey, you you shop at Lowe's? You shop at Menards? They go, Yeah, I love it. Well, you wouldn't be one if it wasn't for all the big boats and big Halloween babies. Exactly. Yeah, that's one of my pet peeves.

SPEAKER_02

We're very team big boat, big houses. So I love it.

SPEAKER_01

I love it. I'm one of the neighbors that I I l I lived here all my life and I've seen it like boring as hell. You could drive through all the way from KK to the dam and never see a car. Is that crazy? Yeah. Yeah. Like I said, I was born here. I remember when we uh there was a flashing yellow light at uh 4254. I thought it was getting big as Eldon. Holy crap, man.

SPEAKER_02

What was the music scene like when you were going to tell you?

The 70s Music Scene And Oddities

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, in the 70s it's really good.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I mean it had tons of music, and and every bar had live music. Almost every bar.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

That's great country music. And and we had even more than that. We had uh we had a lot of entertainment. Let's see. I was talking to Landry early about uh the aqua massage. Oh houseboat on the water. Oh 74, 75, 76, right around there. And maybe I don't know if I should have mentioned his name. He's dead now, so who cares? Yeah. Charlie Landol. He came into town and and and uh brought some great ideas. First tanning, upright tanning bed I've ever seen in my entire life, 74, 74. Were you in there? Jerviser? Yeah, I tried it out. And uh that's why I got skin cancer. Anyway. Thanks a lot, Charlie Lando. I just gotta cut, I just gotta cut the other day. Anyway. Anyway, the uh he had an aqua massage as a houseboat. Yeah. And he advertised on a radio. I mean, uh KRMS, you know.

SPEAKER_04

I never heard of this. This is the first time.

SPEAKER_01

Where were you in 74?

SPEAKER_04

74? I was being made. I was in the other.

SPEAKER_01

That's exactly right. Anyway, yeah, it was it was uh on a radio all the time the afternoon, and then uh they finally got busted. A little high trail one got on there and undercover and and uh they got to the zipping the pants down, and then he pulled his badge out and shot that shit down. Dang, that was into that. I mean, honestly, that would have been so but Mike, we could just start another one up if you'd like. I got I found a buddy of mine's got a real good deal of houseboat. Yeah. I'm gonna talk to Shaw about this. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I think we steer clear of this business.

SPEAKER_01

I've seen the lake change so much it's unreal. I mean, it's it's changed so much to the good, I think.

SPEAKER_02

Really? Like when you were in like high school and then coming up, where were the places that's when I was in high school?

SPEAKER_01

I think the the girl's name was jelly bean on the on the microphone. So much jelly today. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Did you play music in the aqua massage? Or where where were people playing the music?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, just all places. I mean, yeah, a lot of country music course back then. You know what I mean? And uh of course we had the boats going out. I I find I played on that boat for uh uh I think it was '82. Yeah. 1982 on Larry Don. I was the only one that had the uh years the whole season. The band played the whole season. The whole season. Yeah, the whole band. Yeah. Nice. Yeah, I had a band and we do Larry Don. We do sometime we'd do three cruises on the weekends. Yeah, that one o'clock goes out till three in the morning.

SPEAKER_02

And they'd roll out of the dam. Do they always go out of the dam?

SPEAKER_01

Oh Larry Don? Yep. Yep. Yeah, right there where where uh Tucker's got their place, they'll taco with me on Taco Place.

SPEAKER_02

John Flipple told me to ask you about the the wild mouse, or he said you

The Wild Mouse Roller Coaster Job

SPEAKER_02

have some sort of roller coaster. Oh, yeah. So it's very scary.

SPEAKER_01

It used to be on 42 Highway. Yeah. There used to be uh where the school is now. There used to be a big amusement thing there. They they had they even had a freak show there and a whole bit. You know, it's like a regular like bearded lady freak shows? Yeah, I don't know if my ex was there or not. I'm not for sure. But anyway, the uh sorry, sorry, man. Anyway, sorry, sorry, honey. Anyway, the it was out there, and I th I at that time, I think I was fifteen, I think. Pretty fair, but a little skinny shit. I was a little skinny shit. So uh they uh they moved it out to the 54. Okay. Lee Mace bought it. And he put it over there at the end of his little stretch of uh property he had down by there, and they put it up, and I had to skivvy up the damn post and put the pins in. That was your job? That was my job, yeah. Well, no wonder. Oh yeah, I I never write it. No way. No, I put the pins in it and it was sitting on cement blocks. That's why I had that metal at the bottom where you couldn't see the foundation. Yeah, it was sitting on cement blocks, man. It was horrible.

SPEAKER_04

That sounds very Ozanky.

SPEAKER_01

Oh no, it was Hillbilly, baby. That's crazy. Oh, yeah. Yeah, we had little pins in it, and uh you stick a pin in it, it wasn't even anything to keep the pin from coming out. You know what I mean? It was like a pin and a pin. I can only imagine. Stick the pin in, and then to go to the next one, they'd hold me up, they'd pull it up there, and I'd climb up a damn thing and put a pen in. That's why I called the wild miles.

SPEAKER_02

So they just had like high school kids run around sticking pins in it while people were riding it as a roller coaster?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, well, tourists. No, no, no, locals wrote that stuff in it. No, locals didn't ride it everywhere. You can ask any old anybody's been around here forever. Yeah, I ain't riding that.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, not if you're the ones sticking pins in it.

SPEAKER_01

It probably wasn't in the internet yelp reviews or anything. So they just saw you city slicker tourists wrote it. Gotcha. It was right across from Goofy Golf.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_05

I love all these names of all the Goofy Golf.

SPEAKER_01

I feel like all of our name was where the big slide used to be. Big slide used to be over there, the big slide. Yeah, it used to work there.

Sneaking Into Bars At Fifteen

SPEAKER_01

What bar were you sneaking into that uh well back then it was called the 18th Amendment down below the dam. 18th Amendment? Yeah. It was called the 18th Amendment Down Below the Dam. Okay. And it was, I remember I was going there, I was uh because it back then I had real long hair and even had even and grow even had a beard. I thought we had to find a picture of that to put up there. I got a couple of them.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Uh full beard and long, long hair. And I'd go down there and I got real in tight with the the bouncer. I mean, the guy at the door, the door guy. That's who you gotta get in with. When you're 15 and and it's 21 over your old place, you know, and and uh we'd go down there and and I'd always compliment on his head a pfft a cup, it's a pewter cup, and and with a glass bottom. I always said, Man, that's so cool, that's cool. I went in there one time, I drank Ronicopes back then. Okay. I didn't know about good tequila at that time. He bought me a cup and had it there for me. I was 15 years old. So the goddamn showed this guy. The door guy. Yeah, because I ran with older people all the time. All the girls, all the girls I ran with then when I was 15, 16 years old was 21.

SPEAKER_04

You're always chasing chicks.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but now I'm chasing younger ones. Now you say older ones then, so it's like they could buy liquor. You know what I mean? I took two to two of my uh my freshman dance. Yeah. Two two of them because I thought my guy that ran the whole show. I told him I said, Here, here's the problem. Uh, because well, all they wanted, they didn't care about me. They the band was really good out of Jeff City, Missouri. And they wanted to see the band. They want to see the band, so I had told one of them I could go. And then the the this other one wanted to go real bad. Do you remember their name? One of them was Beth. One is Beth, and but they God, what was the other name? I can't remember. Anyway, they were 21, they were 21. And so all the uh actually the coach was always ticked at me at those age, because it was girls he would be dating. You know what I mean? He wanted to date, and I I took him to so I I but I talked him into it. I said, hey, I already told this one she could go, and then she said she couldn't, and so I invited another, and now she can go, and I feel bad, and they let me bring both of them to my freshman little boy sock hop, whatever the hell they called him. Sock hop, yeah. I don't know. I feel like you're that old. And so all my buddies.

SPEAKER_05

What was the the music like at your dance book?

SPEAKER_01

Pretty much the same thing as now, really. Really? Yeah, yeah, we had a lot of you know uh hip hop. Yeah, a lot of hip hop, a lot of what's his name, what's his name? He was out there at Bromley here a while back.

SPEAKER_02

Afroman? Afroman?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, a little uh Afroman. No.

SPEAKER_02

I'll tell you what.

SPEAKER_01

No, it was it was many it was 70s rock and roll. It was 70s rock and roll. It was you know, uh Led Zeppelin and and uh Skinners and yeah that's a good track, but that Afro Man was my favorite.

SPEAKER_02

We had a great concert. That was my favorite Thursday night of the year.

SPEAKER_01

I'm telling you, it was a lot of fun.

SPEAKER_02

Did you go?

SPEAKER_01

You went to the Azure bar, yeah. Well, I mean I brought him I brought him a damn lemon pound.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, you bought him a uh brought him away.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, from scratch she got she got the the the lemons and scraped the damn it was awesome. Yeah, she made two of them, one for the bus because we took the bus out with the old son bitch out, and and we took had one cake made for the bus.

SPEAKER_04

People thought actually you were him when you showed up in that business. Oh, it was funny as hell.

SPEAKER_01

We pulled up there and and Sean and this other dude got off first, and we pulled up there, and they're all just out there. There's like hundred people out there with cameras. Yeah, oh yeah. And then we backed we backed down and parked, and and then we got out, and everybody got out. And I mean the girls got out at the at the end. Well, then somebody in the crowd, a couple of them knew that me, and they go, Oh, hell, that's just Dale Blue's bus. So they all left.

SPEAKER_02

We went to uh we saw Afro Man in Breckenridge a long time ago. Oh, really? Living out there, and we went there's a place called Sherpin Yetis, it only had like 200 people, and he was like two and a half hours late, and everyone was like, Oh, come on, like everyone's about to leave. And then everyone's like, He's coming, he's coming. He finally came in, he walked on stage smoking a blunt and he's like, Sorry I'm late, everybody. I got high, and immediately everybody just goes, I mean, yeah, of course, what a get up course. I didn't know what time he was gonna show up.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well, and in uh at Buffalo, he's going to Buffalo right after that.

SPEAKER_02

I know you were I guarantee you was late for that show. That was the craziest because there's like wild out because you were going to be able to do it.

SPEAKER_01

No, we were going. My bus driver said, Okay, let's go. We'll I'll drive you there. And I couldn't get anybody else to go in the bus. And then everybody went, oh no, let's go home, let's go home. Production girl, you would have gone, wouldn't you? Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Production girl.

SPEAKER_02

We took a par down there and we had about enough beer for a three-hour drive, and it was 15 minutes.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, well, yeah, and but I would have just slept in a bus until I got there.

SPEAKER_04

His personality, though, it's like you like your personality sells.

SPEAKER_01

It's so funny because we we tell Lander, you weren't care.

SPEAKER_04

Who wasn't?

SPEAKER_01

He started playing his little lemon pound cake song. And I said, Lisa, come on, let's go. How am I gonna get there? Like because I mean it's backed. I mean it's it's hard. It it is. It was backed too, it was just wild. And I just walked up there, and you know, of course, no half the people there, and they slept me through. And then the security guy there, they got us over there. He stopped his song and and said, I need a knife. I need a knife because he cut that pound cake. One of the security dudes is an a little uh old bull rider guy that used to know, he's a young young dude or Brumley boy. His son was there and he he had one of those knives on his side, you know. I guarantee he he probably skinned a fish with it two days ago. Yeah, seriously. And and and so he went out and cut a piece of that damn cake. And Alframan stopped the song and and ate a big old piece of cake and had chased it down with damn Colt 45 beer. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_05

It was that I missed that.

SPEAKER_01

No, that's my kind of show. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, it's that's some Dale Blue shit.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, it is. I think I think it is. That was a blast. But uh, but uh Dale Blue shit has let's have another shot.

SPEAKER_05

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

I'd say that'd be the thing to do, but right now. Yeah, well we're gonna. Amanda, you haven't had one, have you? Yeah, yeah.

unknown

I did.

SPEAKER_05

I had one.

SPEAKER_01

Let me see.

SPEAKER_05

What?

SPEAKER_01

Did you drink it?

SPEAKER_05

I most of it.

SPEAKER_01

Hey, where's that camera? Where's the camera? Is that the camera? Turn around to the camera. BS bullshit.

SPEAKER_05

I took most of it. I took most of it. Damn you guys. How dare you call me out like that. Speaking of your bus. Pardon me? Your bus. Not your bus. Yeah, it's for sale, by the way, out there. But not for sale. What do you they call? It's for sale. Yeah, that's that bus has probably got some stories. You had to. Yeah, well, I had stories before I got it. How did you get it?

SPEAKER_02

He's like, I love it, but you can buy it right now. I don't want it anymore.

SPEAKER_01

I bought I bought it from an old country center named Del Reeves. His grandson. Okay. Del Reeves had Looking Out the World through a windshield and a couple other big hits. Okay. And I think it's the late 60s, early 70s. Anyway, his grandson had a band they couldn't afford to travel in it. And I just I found it on the marketplace and bought the damn thing. Nice. And then I put the wrap. Put the wrap on it. Yeah, I put the wrap on it. Because it's a 1980 MCI and Smoking and Bannon's one of the best movies in the world. You know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

You traveled quite a different place with that bus.

SPEAKER_01

Well, it's I I don't go to go too far with it.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You know what I mean? I now the old Bud Light bus. And the old Bud Slight bus. That's how traveled. That's what you traveled with. Okay. Yeah, I put it.

SPEAKER_05

I remember Brian told me stories of something. Yeah, that's right. What bus did they take to spring break?

SPEAKER_01

That was the Bud Light bus.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that was back when I had a railway. That's before I had to get the a job.

SPEAKER_05

Took his bus to spring break.

SPEAKER_04

Or you did you go with him? There's no you had to go, right?

SPEAKER_01

What?

SPEAKER_04

If you knew Brian.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, I let them guys take it back. You let them take it. Yeah, I let them take it.

SPEAKER_04

I thought for sure you'd be in the back. No, no, no.

SPEAKER_01

I let them take it. I could work. I had to work. You had to play at the dog. You know. I spent 19 years at dog days, you know.

SPEAKER_04

I got so many questions about that.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I missed I missed out.

SPEAKER_01

Back back when you didn't have to have a filter. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_05

Where did

Learning Music By Ear

SPEAKER_05

you start? Where was your starting point playing being an entertainer?

SPEAKER_02

So right now we're at the dance with 19 years old.

SPEAKER_04

So we go back to high school, he's got two dates, he graduated from I I didn't even play music back then. All right.

SPEAKER_01

Oh no, they wouldn't let me play music back then. Yeah, I wouldn't just start. Yeah, they wouldn't let me uh I remember my the the music teacher kicked me out of band uh because I didn't I said uh hey, I said I don't want to learn all this squiggly line stuff. Just let me listen to the song and I'll figure it out. You know what I mean? Yeah, I don't know I can't read a note. Yeah, I don't know nothing about nothing music wise. I just do it. You know, back back in the day though, when you learn a song, it was on a a record player and you had to go back like this, you know.

SPEAKER_05

So you play by ear?

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely. I have no idea what I did not know that listen to the radio or listen to the record, listen to whatever. And just tune it in. Just tune it in, figure it out.

SPEAKER_05

Where did you learn to play guitar and sing? You just taught yourself?

SPEAKER_01

Pretty much I had a good friend of mine, he was a super good guitar player, and uh he got killed on a car record when he was 17. I was 16, and he's the one that kind of taught me how to play a little bit. And but I didn't play again until 1980.

SPEAKER_04

So when did you uh did you buy a guitar? Did somebody give you guitar? Like what uh did you pick it up?

SPEAKER_01

Both. Both have some give to me, some brought some. Actually, uh 1976.

Aspen Hustles And The Gong Show Plan

SPEAKER_01

Guitar number had a guitar named Stella, a little three-quarter guitar named Stella. Okay, and that's what had on a headstock, Stella. And we friend of mine, we were went to was heading to the gong show in 197, I think it was '76. And we made as far as Aspen, Colorado, and we camped out for a month and a half at Aspen and never made any further. And we had the greatest time in the world. We we have nothing with us but a but a tent, uh, rainfly, and uh sleeping bags, and maybe a quarter pound, maybe a half a pound of pot. You know what I mean? And and and one frying pan, and we headed to the gong show. I don't know if you even know what the gong show is. The gong show is cat's. Oh, you gotta go, you gotta Google it. It was a show in California. No, it's a coolest show ever. No, not the dong show. No, that's that's right right here, right now, production girl. I can't show you. I got a pillow.

SPEAKER_03

We're gonna throw this pillow away for this one, too.

SPEAKER_01

Home goods, here he comes. It's called the gong. You know, they had a big gong, and they couldn't stupid ass act would come on. And and people would boom, and it was silly as hell. Yeah, and what the damn uh I remember hit that guy's name, the Chuck Barry? Burris. Oh Chuck Burris. That's right. Huh? Chuck Burris was the uh MC. And we're heading for the gong show because my friend, he he's a little older than I, he uh played one of his wooden recorders, you know what I mean? He put through his nose. What? And he called it a snoop flute, and he'd he'd play that tummy. I mean he could play like just a few. On the gong shoot, I don't know whatever we want. No, he'd play through his nose. It was so much fun. Anyway, so we was heading there, and we got a ride with a friend of ours, and he was go they were going out that way out west, but they were they had money. We didn't have shit. We didn't have no money. And and we actually opened a started a company right before we left there called What was our steps, uh Hillbilly Steps, something like that. And we just had uh two jobs that we built steps from their house down to the dock, all right. But made it natural, yeah, like real rocks and sticks and whatever, whatever, and made a couple hundred bucks and headed out.

SPEAKER_05

So we got there that's amazing, actually.

SPEAKER_02

That's the biggest hustle to drive. We're just we're not gonna buy products and boards, we're just gonna buy real. No, no, no, that's what they wanted. That's what they wanted.

SPEAKER_01

They wanted natural steps to the dock, and we made it natural steps to the dock. I bet that it washed away the first ring. No, no, no, no, no. You know what I mean? You underestimate my uh construction abilities.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, just all that that pen putting in from the good job.

SPEAKER_01

It'd probably still there if you go look.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, yeah, we have to do it.

SPEAKER_01

Anyway, um the we headed out there and we ran out of money after a little bit. You know, like yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, went fast.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, get them up. Is the camera over here? Where's the camera? They're all around us. Oh good, yeah. Because I don't know where to look. Is there one by you, baby? Yeah. Damn straight. Here you go.

SPEAKER_05

Oh I finished that one.

SPEAKER_01

Well, damn. That's a good one. That is delicious. That was a good one. It's just it's good to give you. Yeah. You know what I mean? And I was drinking that high dollar crap for I'm not gonna mention no names. That'd be rude. But uh, it was high dollar and now I can't even drink it after I drink it.

SPEAKER_04

I think it's harsh. I won't say names, but yeah, that's way smooth.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, it's smooth as well. Yeah, when it's cold. When it's cold, but it'd be at the end of better. You got your is that full full?

SPEAKER_04

Margaret. Margarita. Dressing that.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, you had drinking margaritas. Yeah, I'm not a margarita. I drink beer in tequila. I know how I can I react. But anyway, let's go back to asking.

SPEAKER_04

All right, so rent out of money.

SPEAKER_01

So I took a job as a uh maid at smuggler's lodge and made nine bucks an hour. This is nineteen seventy six. Is made the guy from a nine bucks an hour.

SPEAKER_04

Nakey for nine bucks an hour. I'm saying for nine bucks an hour. What were you doing? Did you wear an outfit?

SPEAKER_05

Did you have a cute little outfit that you wore? No.

SPEAKER_01

No, but I put one on for you, baby.

SPEAKER_02

If you asked me to. Speaking of Aspen, you should have seen this girl at the bull riding.

SPEAKER_01

No, Aspen was a big deal. I mean, I met uh John Denver out there. Met John Denver. I've seen what's his name? Oh, he had a midnight special dude. God, it was I can't remember his name. He had a midnight special, was a a thing on TV.

SPEAKER_06

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Good show on TV. Burke Sugarman.

SPEAKER_06

Burke Sugarman. Anyway, well, you're too young.

SPEAKER_01

You weren't even born. Just Google it. Anyway, the his big deal. Anyway, uh, I remember when we uh we uh met John, John Denver, he was at he we heard that he was Denver? Yeah, he was we heard he was buying John Denver in there. Yeah, yeah, he's yeah, because he lived there in Aspen. And we we heard he was buying pictures of strawberry margaritas at the Jerome Hotel for everybody. And so we headed that way. And what was laundry day, had everything we had on my back, on my big backpack, top here, clear down below. We come up here, John was just coming out. I mean, he's hammered. He's just coming out of the drome hotel, and he's getting ready to get in his car, and he had a beautiful Porsche, you know, and this is 1976, brand new mud from top to bottom. That that he looked like he'd been out in the field with this damn Porsche, muddy as hell. And and we went up there and he goes, Hey, dude, you know, he's cool as hell. He goes, Man, look at all that stuff on your back. That's a lot of stuff. I said, Yeah, laundry day, whatever. You know, peace out. And he gets in short and fucking fixed. Oh, I didn't mean to say F-word, sorry. Laundry Day. But it was I mean, is that that quick? I mean, it's just like you just you know I love the random story.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, it's that was funny. John Denver wrote a smash head laundry day.

SPEAKER_01

Oh no, that was but we never got any damn strawberry margaritas. I mean, that's what sucked.

SPEAKER_04

Went all that way.

SPEAKER_01

Oh no, we I mean we were running for the laundry, man. Yeah, could we somebody come in there and say, hey, John Denver's up there at the drum hotel? I guess he did that a lot. He'd go there a lot and buy drinks for everybody. And so, and we started we hustled up there and went up there as quick as we could, and and we just got right when he's coming out, got right getting ready to get in his car. But he's very nice. We was from here to the wall right over here from him, and he and he's saying, He was talking about us being me. I had all my back. I mean, from I mean, I was way up here on the back.

SPEAKER_05

Wait, what was in the what what did you have?

SPEAKER_01

All of our bags, all of our stuff was getting yeah, we had a little storm on the hill. Okay. You know, we we uh what did you smell it smell like? Five, five what you stink.

SPEAKER_04

I do no Gell Nice on laundry dates.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I got a date later, cut it out. Anyway, the uh nice restaurant's gone. The uh we got a storm or something come up. So you had to wash up. So we just washed it all up. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

All right, so then you brought everything too to to wash it.

SPEAKER_01

No, it was five and a half miles up the mountain. Oh god. We hiked every day, five and a half miles up now. And it didn't seem like nothing then when I was seven years old. Sure, yeah. You know what I mean? I mean I was stud back then, but still are still. And anyway, we that was that was a fun trip. But let's move on up.

SPEAKER_04

Okay,

Hitchhiking Stories And Road Characters

SPEAKER_04

so then you get how do you get back to Missouri?

SPEAKER_01

Hitchhiked, like we got out there. All right. I hit hikes a lot back in the day. One time I hate my month back from Montana and got a ride with a good dude, was uh a uh NASA guy.

SPEAKER_06

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, a big NASA guy. And he then he he was tied flies. Fish flies, you know, when you're fishing. You know, he tied those. He was going to a big deal and he picked me up and we it was awesome. Then I got picked up one time across Kansas with a guy that wrote books, kids' books from England. And I wish I could remember his name because he's probably as famous as hell because he wrote tons of uh kids' books. Well he always flew across from California back to Chicago, you know, to for book fairs. He was from England. And he England, Germany, somewhere like that. And anyway, he would probably drive across the country. We had to stop twice in Kansas, we got tickets twice. And and back then he would get cashiers checks, because back then he didn't have you know, he didn't have credit cards. He'd he'd get cashier checks and take them, had to pull in this little towns because he got pulled over and write cashier checks and dump them off. And because he'd be going, he'd be going 100 miles an hour because he's used to the Audubon or whatever they call it. And he and we get pulled over all the time. We got pulled over twice when I was with him going across Kansas. I wish I remember these guys' names though.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, yeah, like what the hell?

SPEAKER_01

This is not even half my adventure.

SPEAKER_05

I feel like you're making the shit.

SPEAKER_01

Matter of fact, right before I got it right with that guy.

SPEAKER_02

So you're you're in like your teens and you're hitchhiking back because you went out as far as you can.

SPEAKER_01

Actually, I guess uh a buddy of mine, his girlfriend was uh moving out there with him in Hamilton, Montana, and he was going to hunting guide school, and so he wanted me to drive her out to make sure she got out there, and they wanted to give me a bus ticket back. I said, No, I'd rather just give me the cash and I'll just hitchhike back.

SPEAKER_05

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

You know what I mean? And and met tons of people. Right.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, that's tons of people.

SPEAKER_01

But you can do that then, you can't do it now. Right. Well, that's what I'm like.

SPEAKER_05

I'm just trying to imagine like you hitchhiking.

SPEAKER_01

Honestly, it in today's world. I always stayed very clean. You know what I mean? I always look presentable. I wouldn't like a bum out there, you know, like looking like shit.

SPEAKER_06

But who didn't you get who else hitchhikes?

SPEAKER_01

No, no. I mean, I I I would I would wear it wearing the same nice clean clothes when I was out there and hitchhiking. Did you show a little leg at all or just a thumb?

SPEAKER_02

I met tons of good people, cool people. Was it like a lean back thumb or did you you like a leg out there?

SPEAKER_01

No, no. No, no, it's just like I would I would never stop walking. Oh, you just walk. Oh no, I wouldn't. I wouldn't, I wouldn't, I wouldn't, I wouldn't like you sit there on the side of the damn trying to get a ride. Did you ever put your thumb on? I'll walk, maybe. I walked and I oh we gotta put my thumb on, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

And then that's when they got to do. I don't know. I've never hitchhiked before. Well, we'll just go try it. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

It's the last time we'll see you.

SPEAKER_05

I'm a gunner.

SPEAKER_02

No, you couldn't do that.

SPEAKER_01

You couldn't do that before.

SPEAKER_05

No, guys, if you ever told me Dale hitchhiking, I guarantee we'd get a ride.

SPEAKER_01

We'd get a ride pretty quick.

SPEAKER_02

If we didn't, we'd stop and have a ride. So you so you had a guitar, you had Stella, you went out there, you hitchhiked back. Where's like where does the music uh where's the music really start hitting for you? Like where do you really start with the biggest thing? None of that was music involved. Except for the fact that we You had a guitar at that point, right?

SPEAKER_01

Well, no, no, no, Stella, but no, uh uh you didn't have Stella then on a trip to Montana, no.

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_01

And this came back. I did honestly, uh I'm I uh I was here and I was working for a company here in town, and there was a show band come through

Meeting His First Wife And Going Pro

SPEAKER_01

town.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Because there oh you know where the big churches over there, what's it called? Uh the hills. Yeah. That used to be a them a bar. Oh really? It was called the fountains, super nice bar. Uh and they had show bands all the time. Yeah, I mean I mean show bands, but they were back in the day they'd play it four seasons and chanture. Oh, yeah. They were traveling bands that played like top 40, so I mean super bands. I mean, they were so good. Well anyway, they they had this uh show bands there, and my first wife, she was coming through on a show band, and she'd been on traveling for a while. She's out of uh uh Michigan. Uh what's it called? Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo, Michigan. And uh she did some quite a bit of stuff with she did some little backup stuff with uh Bob Seeger at the time back in the day. And she played trumpet and keyboard at the same time, so she's very talented. I learned most of my entertaining stuff from her. Okay, to give her some chops. And but anyway, the she was here and it was here for a couple weeks, two different times, whatever. She loved the area. So she ended up wanting to stay. Okay. She worked for Jean-Pierre at at was Michaels now. What was it called? Uh I can't remember the name of it. I'll think of it a second. It used to be called before Michaels. Before Michael Chalet. Yeah. We'll check, we'll we'll we'll check it. Damn, I can't remember the name of it. Anyway, I'll think of it in a second.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

And so we went out there and she got a job there, and we started dating and like getting on. So how old were you then? Uh uh 20 then, I guess.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Probably 20, 21, I don't think.

SPEAKER_04

All right.

SPEAKER_01

Like yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Because you lived a lot of life already before 2021, so that's pretty good.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, I I before us before I was 17. I we in the middle. We have not even we haven't we have House Cup at 15. We've not even talked about like uh the Ozark Mountain Music Festival up in uh Sandai, Missouri, that was the biggest concert that's ever come here.

SPEAKER_02

You know, we haven't talked about things to ask you about. When are we in when is the pee break? Yeah, yeah. Take a pee break.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because it didn't didn't uh the the more you can take a pee break. Oh yeah, you can we can take whatever break.

SPEAKER_05

Wait, wait, wait, what do you mean? You're not wearing a diaper? You didn't get your depend order from Walmart earlier today?

SPEAKER_02

While we're waiting on the pre-pee break, they said that Taylor Swift concerts, they said that they couldn't figure out what was going on with orders because Walmarts would run out of adult divers, and they said all the people would go there and buy all the adult diapers for television concerts. So they couldn't miss Taylor Swift peeing yourself peeing in a diaper.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. I was like, uh I don't know.

SPEAKER_05

You were in La La Land, traveling.

SPEAKER_04

We started talking about Sedalia then before.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, no, I understood that.

SPEAKER_01

We haven't touched on nothing.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So you were we didn't touch on stories at all yet. No, no.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, you kept you got back, you met your first wife, she taught you about music. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

She was a nice trumpet player. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Like an instrument?

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

We got a snoop flute, a trumpet player.

SPEAKER_01

And an organ. Which kind of goes together.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Are we on yet, baby?

SPEAKER_05

Oh, yeah. We're on. We've we're still we've been rolling.

SPEAKER_01

That's good. Oh, even when I with peeing? I'm I waited so long to pee that I don't think I have a prostate problem anymore. Nice.

SPEAKER_06

Why'd you wait that long?

SPEAKER_01

Oh everybody. Yeah, she was really good. People played corn player. And so we played we were together for I don't know how many years, six years, probably. But anyway, we played around here. That was when I saw my Larry Don. Played on that thing a lot. That was her there.

SPEAKER_02

And uh the when the hold on when they did the Larry Don with like you just go out there to like party, would they do food? Like so you'd go out there for like just like a sunset cruise. Like they don't really do.

SPEAKER_01

Oh no, no, no, no, no. But this is a nighttime baby. Oh, it's a nighttime party. Oh, it was a party. I'll tell you back in the day, back in the day before I ever played there, we would when we was not old enough to drink, you could go in there and take your own, you'd have somebody take booze in for you.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You know, like uh a friend, older friend. And I mean, I'm talking about when it's 14 years old. And we go in there and and we'd have it under Bob. You know what I mean? You put Bob booze under Bob, and you just walk up the up the, you know, he's out in the middle of the lake. Yeah. And we walk up there and say, Yeah, I need a beer. Uh it's Bob. Because he just bring your own beer on. Yeah. You bring your own beer on. Okay. You know what I mean? Oh, yeah, we drink there when it's 14, 15 years old. Oh, no, I don't think there's that many. I'm like, it wasn't a very eighty or hundred, maybe. It's Larry Don, and what was the other one? I got my first uh BJ on the top of the very top. Can I say that? BJ on the very top of the uh Larry Don. That's the top deck. And what's so funny is so funny as when when I put that one bar in years ago, when I put that one bar in that I would have the the the boys have their uh neon taco now. Because I I started that. We won't go into that story because the guy's horrible, dude. I had my partner anyway. Yeah, yeah. Then Larry Don was selling stuff off. Well, I got to buy uh those a couple of things. Yes.

SPEAKER_06

Where is this? Where is this?

SPEAKER_01

It was out the farm, it's out the farm, it's probably still out there now on 42. Yeah. I sold the farm, but I saw it to my son-in-law, my ex-in-law. No, they weren't numbered. I just knew I just knew which one it was. Yeah, and but I thought I thought it was cool as hell years later. And this has only been 2011. 2011 is when I bought uh they was I bought the I was like, that's nowhere when you got your first BJ. Huh? No.

SPEAKER_06

I didn't hear it. Yeah, that's when I bought the seat.

SPEAKER_01

That's when I bought the seat because it was no, that was like shit. I got to tens. No. No, it wasn't that then. No. Honestly. Yeah, because if uh I remember I got f laid first in a cave on D Road.

SPEAKER_04

So you get laid before you got a blowjob, or you got a blowjob for you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it was just like a get it on thing. You know, that's a lot young. See, I'm a big cave.

SPEAKER_06

That's pretty.

SPEAKER_01

Like, no, there's caves everywhere. I know, and it had to be between 60 and 75 degrees. It was called Little Mouth Cave. It's down by India Burial Cave, which is down D Road.

SPEAKER_02

I'm just glad Little Mouth wasn't the one that gave you your first blowjob.

SPEAKER_01

No. Well, she had a little mouth.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

I was too young to know, man. I was too young to know. I just took advantage of me. Story tales like sorry. I remember her name, Robin.

SPEAKER_05

Your memory uh your memory is so good.

SPEAKER_01

No, my memory's good, but I can't tell you what I did yesterday.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, but you know the shit.

SPEAKER_01

But I got the best memory in the world. Oh, I I remember I all my friends are like uh it keeps them out of trouble. They don't remember nothing. My age. I remember everything. I mean, I remember I could go story after story after story. That's crucial. Yeah. You got a lot of them. Oh no, we ain't we touched the story. We even touched us.

SPEAKER_04

After Larry Don, where did you go after that?

SPEAKER_01

No, no, we're we're clear we're clear back up to uh when I got with my first wife. Okay. And we was playing music and had the bands. How old did you get? Larry Don't had 20, 21. Okay. Yeah. And then uh we were on the road in 1983.

Hotel Circuit Life And Saying No

SPEAKER_01

Where did you get married? Went on the road as a duo. Okay. Okay. And we cured hotel circuit, boring as hell, wore tucks every night. Yeah, oh yeah. I refuse, I refuse to wear those silly shoes, so I wore tennis shoes with my tucks. But she would wear long tail tucks, but she'd wear like short shorts, you know what I mean? Like little band skin pants if it was cold, a little short shorts and and a little tucks, one of those little tops, what you call them, two-tops things. All sparkly and shit. Okay. She had fake boobies. She had two sets of boobies. We bought two sets of boobies. One set and it wasn't big enough. We got another set. And she even had her nose done one time.

SPEAKER_04

I definitely want to get the nose done.

SPEAKER_01

She had her nose done one time. Yeah. And I go, guy, you're gonna have to break her nose some because she didn't like it. It looked like Michael Jackson or something. And she changed it. So anyway.

SPEAKER_05

The uh wait can we go back to the four sets of boobs?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Why she had four sets of boobs? No, she has to be.

SPEAKER_01

And so we she had another set. Yeah. And this is this is the eighties. Yeah. I mean, that's that's wild. That's eighties, yeah, yeah. But she's living her time. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway, and uh and she's an entertainer. And so we went out on the road for three years with one week off. We worked five to six nights a week in hotels. Thirteen states. World's fair in '84 and this and places like that. And yeah, and so uh we had and what wasn't the press best part is because we ran across a lot of uh fun people. And there's all the rich dudes with really hot young wives. We go to hot we go to hot parties. That was the winner on that. Oh, Jesus, poor girl. I feel bad for her because she didn't end up with the old dude. She did with the old dude. We said the hotels.

SPEAKER_04

Did you stay in the hotel? Okay.

SPEAKER_01

We stayed at the hotels. Three years. One week off. Five to six nine. We had one, we had either a day or two to get to the next one. Yeah. Then we go to the next one.

SPEAKER_05

Did they have the continental breakfast?

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely. What was your choice? What was my favorite? Yeah, what would you my favorite was the pancakes? Pancakes. I thought it wasn't so much. Like hojo's. No, probably no, I I never we never made breakfast, baby. No. We never made breakfast. We'd like to have dinner. We we slept all day. This is you know, this is stay up all night. You missed out. Stay up all night and uh have a little dinner in the afternoon, maybe. I don't know. You know, we we uh because we we'd go to hot tub parties every night. We'd do whatever the hell was going on. Sure. I mean, it was you know, all but the most boring part is we'd play holiday ends, high dollar holiday ends. Big boys nice. Hilton's and Sheridans. Was that right? Fancy places. Right. Sucked. So we'd be there we'd been there playing for four hours to two business guys trying to chase one waitress. Many a night. It's horrible. That's why when I when I uh uh when I got out of that and started doing my own thing, I said I'll never play anywhere I don't want to play. Yeah, never play a song I don't want to play. Because we we used to do uh Simply Red and Madonna and all this shit right off the radio.

SPEAKER_02

What's your least favorite song to play? Oh God.

SPEAKER_01

I don't play any song I don't like. No, but back then when you're on the circuit. Jeez, that would be Well, you already said something right about Gavin. Like a virgin, probably. Oh man.

SPEAKER_05

I could have you dislike that song at so many levels.

SPEAKER_01

Seriously. Like a virgin probably, you know, make a few. She sang it, she sang really good on all that stuff. Yeah. You know what I mean? And uh, but we did top 40 right off the radio in the 80s.

SPEAKER_06

So that's what you have to say. I hated it all.

SPEAKER_01

I never even sang back then. I didn't sing a song. What'd you say? I just I just played music and took care of things, and yeah, I didn't I didn't I just played. I didn't I didn't sing until eh third year. Started throwing a couple in there once in a while. What'd you throw in there?

SPEAKER_04

What was your first like your get out?

SPEAKER_01

Like Tulsa time, shit like that.

SPEAKER_02

You know, because I'm a big Rolling Stones

Ozark Music Festival Chaos In Sedalia

SPEAKER_02

fan. I saw like the uh Gimme Shelter documentary when they're at Altabon, and then I was like, this is crazy, and they're talking about Woodstock and all this stuff, and they're like, there was this music festival down here, that Ozark Music Festival.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, they and that we're in the table. I'm saying now that they can do uh a you know, they can do that digital stuff to look at the crowd. Yeah, and there was there's only supposed to be 80,000 there tickets sold. Yeah, and there was over 300,000. Where was this at? In Sedelia, Missouri. There was at the time there was only sixty thousand people in the whole town. So what year would that be nineteen seventy-four, July twelfth? Something like that. You have to Google it, but I think July 12th, middle of July, hot as hell. And I uh here's what happened is we're gonna go back a couple of years. We always went for the fashion. I'm infatuated. Oh, no, no, no. It was it was cool as well. It was cool. Hey, everybody, keep up. Anyway. Anyway, we I was on the strip, I spent a lot of my youth on the strip. Yeah, yeah. Down on the strip. Because that was where it happened. Right. It's fun. You know, I mean, it was a lot of fun back then. And so uh the I was down there and the concert was that weekend and up in Sedalia, and I this really hot little chick was there, met on the strip, and shey, you're going to concert with Sedalia? I said, Well, I wouldn't didn't really plan on doing. She said, Well, I'm supposed to meet my sister up there. You want to go? And I said, Let's go. Well, neither one of us had no beer or nothing. So we hits hiked up. Can I ask you a quick question?

SPEAKER_02

Because even like I feel old when we started promoting like rehydrates, because we went to Columbia and handed out flyers like pre-social media. So how do how the No one knows social media? Just word of mouth, baby. Well, no, for sure, but I'm saying, like, I feel old doing that. So how how did you even know, or how did all those people find out about it?

SPEAKER_01

Uh well, they had posters everywhere that time. There's a used to be a place called the Way Out Shop. The way out shop was used on the strip where that sunshine daydream thing is right next to you. So people find the windows or it was little posters and and and the flyers. You Google it and you'll see the flyer. Everybody that was anybody was on the bill that was there. I mean, everybody, you know, I mean, was on that it was at that concert. Anyway, it's supposed to be a bluegrass folk concert and only 50,000 tickets sold. Well, that didn't work out. I mean, they were uh when I got there, they we busted out of gate. But let me go back to when I met that girl. We headed out there, and she she said, I want to go meet my sister. And I go, she I'll go, we'll go. We started hitchhiking up there to Sedalia. Got a couple of rides. These old people picked us up one time, it's cool as hell. They old people, oh, you kids don't want to go up there to the National Guard, because they did have the National Guard out there, it was a mess. And the National Guard's there, you go, you guys don't want to go up there, it's dangerous, and whatever. And I remember we we stopped up in some little town, I can't remember the name of it, on the way up there, nothing but cornfields around on the way up Sedelia. And I had this school shirt. I love this school shirt. It's kind of a pinkish red shirt with little peace signs all over it. Sounds cool as fuck. That was hippie, baby. You still have this shirt? Oh no, uh the beard and yeah, yeah, a little bit. I didn't have the big one. But anyway, the so we uh went to the cornfield for a minute, take a little break. Pit stop. Yep, a little pit stop, the cornfield. And I wish I'm in that town. I I go when I go through there, all the time I reminisce a little bit. When I go through there, send us a text when you go through there. I gotta remember that. Anyway, the she loved that shirt. So we switched shirts. You know what I mean? Jersey swap. Yeah, because I mean that's a little sweet. I could wear what kind of shirt she has on. I I have not a clue, maybe. Didn't you switch it? It didn't matter. She you know she doesn't have to be a little bit more. Oh, you just were like whatever. I was on it. I didn't give a shit. What's whatever she wanted, I was just short. You know, I'm in. Anyway, I like took off with her hitchhiking. It just matters. Anyway, so we got up there. I never saw that shirt again.

unknown

Of course.

SPEAKER_01

Anyway, uh, we we got up there just to tell you. And and uh first thing that happened is we got into town, and because we these people saw how horrible it was, you know, crazy. And it was, but we went up to this, there's a gas station there right there in the s in the middle of town. It's not there anymore. And right when you get to this light square, and you gotta turn, you get up there and you gotta turn left to go to the uh it was at the uh like where the fairgrounds are. Well, yeah. And what's crazy is where the parking lot is, that's where the stage was. The big parking lot on this end, okay, that's where the stage was, and then it went all the way back to the uh where the uh racetrack is. Yeah, and so anyway, we we go up there and we got up there and and all these big blacker dudes are sitting on this wall by this damn gas station. Guys, come here, come here. I go, Oh shit, here we go. They're gonna beat me up, take this chick. And and anyway, wearing a crack. I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know what I don't know. You know what I mean? And she's got such a cool shirt on.

SPEAKER_01

Oh no, which no, she was hot, hot, hot. They probably beat her out and take the channel. You don't wear no bra or nothing. So, you know, she looked good, she looked good. And and perky, you little perky girl. Anyway, so we we get up there, and these guys are out here and they got their little knives off their side and they're wiping them off. Well, here can here I go, oh here, it's all over now. You know what I mean? Because they told us it was everybody's killing people and stuff. Anyway, here comes uh this big old dude, big old biker, had a watermelon on both shoulders. A watermelon. Watermelons. And and they and they invite us to have a piece of watermelon.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, like actual watermelon. I thought that was like breaking bread versus.

SPEAKER_01

That was pretty cool. And but then we went a little further up and we got up there by the uh damn place and we didn't have no tickets. We had nothing. I don't think I had I think I had five bucks on me, to tell you the truth. I think I had five five or ten bucks on me. You know what I mean? And I know I don't know if I I barely had five five bucks on me. Anyway, we got up there to the gate, and there's a bunch of people on the gate pushing it back and forth. No, no, they knocked knocked the gate down. So we went on in with those guys, and we sit down in a little circle. Oh my lord, this is some hippie shit. And so we sit in a big circle. Everybody's after they set the gate down, sit in a big circle, and uh I'm sitting there, and here comes this little person over in this little hand with a pipe in it, and walking around past out, and there was a uh two little midget. Can I say midget? Yeah, little people midget, whatever. And and and they they walked up there because there was a little circus going on, too. Carnival on a carnival. They were there trying to get a job, they don't get a job at the carnival. And they come up with a pipe, and the pipe was bigger than the little hands, and and it was hell, man. You know, we're already kind of on some extra stuff anyway. Yes, yes, yes. And so the you uh they kept walking around passing. The next thing I know that we're in, and we left there and walked into the main part of the damn concert, and there's a big group of people, her sister's right there.

SPEAKER_05

I was lucky.

SPEAKER_01

Never saw her again. Oh I'm there by myself. I'm 17 years old at this place I've uh 16 or 17 years old. It was 76.

SPEAKER_02

Who played there? That lineup was in the middle.

SPEAKER_01

I just turned 16 in April, and that was in July. And everybody's there. Yeah, who I mean everybody. No, yeah. The lineup was crazy. Skinner Bachman, everybody. And then Aerosmith, they flew in just because I heard about it. I just realized they weren't even on the bill. They weren't even on the bill. Aerosmith wasn't even on supposed to be there. They flew in and wanted to be there. It was not all these like.

SPEAKER_02

Nobody knew because they were like, we're gonna have a concert, and then these things got so big, but they had one here, and they just don't talk about it like the other ones. It was huge.

SPEAKER_01

Well, it was so big that there was so much garbage and trash that they didn't even bother picking anything up. They came in with bulldozers and things and took the dirt completely out and replaced the dirt. Oh my gosh. Yeah, had to replace the dirt. That's crazy. I mean, it was crazy, it was it was nuts. And I was like there by myself going, okay, that what? And uh so then I ran into some people that I knew. Of course. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I hitchhack back.

SPEAKER_01

And they hit back. No, no, I I I I think I rolled back with them, but I I hung out with him the rest of the time. Yeah. That's nice.

SPEAKER_02

Was it a couple day festival or just like a one? Three three days?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, three days. Yeah, I'm it was it was nuts. I mean, there was no the the the everybody just had big old mud places and they did mud slides, and it's just your typical, it's a mess. Oh, yeah, you need to Google it. You need to go to and see some of the pictures because the pictures are uh tells everything. Right, yeah, it's like a lot of stock. It was like five. There was uh three the over three hundred thousand people there. Wow. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

We talk about those big concerts.

SPEAKER_01

It's supposed to be supposed to be talking tickets sold, fifty thousand tickets sold. It's pretty cool.

SPEAKER_02

Wow, sweet.

SPEAKER_01

So we fast forward back to then since you brought us took clear back there. I took us back there. Yeah. But anyway, we we like I said, we toured on the road for a while and then I came back. And what else I do after that? Who knows? Well, after I got through with her, I got a divorce. Right, in Springfield, Illinois.

SPEAKER_06

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Springfield, Illinois is a whole nother story.

SPEAKER_06

Oh boy.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, holy crap, man. I saw my first stabbing year at the Curve Inn, and and I had two cars sold in there. Uh and why don't you live there anymore? I well no, I I was only lived there for a year's contract. I was only there for a year. That's where I got my divorce, but we st we still played music together for three.

SPEAKER_02

Pardon me, a hotel or something to get played at the end.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, no, it was a called Mr. J's on Wall Bash. All right. Right on the corner of Wall Bash, and it was Mr. J. I played at 11 o'clock at night till three in the morning.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Only live music.

SPEAKER_01

After one in the morning. Yeah. It's fun. It was I won't go into the whole details of that one.

SPEAKER_04

So how did you get

Coming Home To Lake Bars And History

SPEAKER_04

back to the lake then?

SPEAKER_01

If you're like so you got divorced after I left there, after I left that contract, I come back here and put a counter bar in at where Walmart is right now. Okay. It's called Stinky's. In the country bar. It's called Stinky's Saloon. And and makes me want to go.

SPEAKER_05

No, it's a great job.

SPEAKER_01

My sign, my sign is a big skunk with uh cowboy boots. I mean not cowboots, a cowboy hat and have high top uh red tennis shoes on the board. I don't like that much.

SPEAKER_05

We've got to find like I want to bring this hat back. I'm actually really honestly sad that all these places you're talking about that were here are not here.

SPEAKER_01

It was the barbecue joint when I when I moved in. It was a barbecue joint. Oh no, it's right. You know what the coolest part is, you know you don't want to go down the hill, right across from here. It was right across the street from this place right here. Right across the street. And and you know, down this hill sometimes it gets the smelling pretty bad because of city's tour. Yeah. You know what I mean? It does. Yeah, it does. It does. You're right. And uh even back then. And anyway, there would be tourists and stuff coming and thought that we had something under the steps, big old steps, walking up there in the big deck, and they thought we had something under there and make it smell because it's so stinky.

SPEAKER_02

Man, I was wearing that wool jersey last night. Uh we were at that uh shady gators and Nikki's like, what smells? And I'm like, I think it was me. I just switched my chair. Michael Jackson's a deodorant in there. There used to be Nicki Lugamina.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, there used to be one of the uh the one of the finest restaurants uh it was at the lake, it was right across the street from here. Right. Really? Yeah, called Ratskellers. Red Skellers? Ratskellers, yes, is as a one of the best restaurants here, right? See, it used to be right across the street. Isn't that weird to live? Rock cabins over by where Walmart's at. And then that bar I was talking about, and then right past it was uh before you got to the lumber yard. The lumber yard was right down here. Lake Lumber was right down to the end of the dale. And Jojo's cafe, Joe's uh Jojo's cafeteria, I think they call it. It was uh that's a Homs daddy. Yeah. Okay. You know what I mean? Joe Homs all them boys. Their daddy had a place there called Jojo's. Okay, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Did you ever get down on Kirkwood Lodge with the Flippos at all? Or when did you run into when did you run into John Flippo? Oh. Because his parents had uh Marshall.

SPEAKER_01

Who's John Flippo? He's this guy. Now honestly, I I he knew all my relatives before I ever met him. Really? Yeah, because in Kirkwood Lodge. A lot of my relatives worked there. Yeah, back in the day when his dad called called uh uh square dances and stuff.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I didn't know how big of a deal Marshall was.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he's a big deal. Yeah, my my one of my cousins, he kind of followed in his footsteps and he was a big caller. Uh he moved to California and because uh the actually around here there was no nothing really going on anymore. I guess it's a big deal out there. He still goes out there twice a year on calls still to this day.

SPEAKER_06

Like a little angel.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he's got several albums and scrap, whatever. I don't know. So what year are you thinking? We're getting off the fun stuff. That's boys.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, so yeah. When so then you you started playing around here.

SPEAKER_01

We've never had to fast forward, Hank. We were always way back.

SPEAKER_05

I know. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

We honestly got back here. Had the bar over here, and then uh then I uh went back on the road. Okay, okay after that, by myself. Yeah, I mean, and went out on the road. And then you're singing this. I met I met uh my last your husband's babysitter. Uh met her. Yeah. Yeah. Your husband's babysitter.

SPEAKER_05

Uh speaking of, okay, hang on. Let's side story here. I got a little uh poem that Brian wrote for you. Oh, really? A poem he wrote for me?

SPEAKER_01

He wrote it for you. No way. Sorry, I can't see it.

SPEAKER_02

We're clicking.

SPEAKER_01

Damn, we better have another shot.

SPEAKER_02

I got him. I got you ready to go.

SPEAKER_01

Production girl, how are you doing, man?

SPEAKER_02

Beautiful.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, are you ready for this? Yeah. Okay. Dale. Oh, thanks. I have a buddy named Dale. He probably should be in jail. His shows are like watching a wreck because he's been drinking too much select. He tells the girls to do a little turnaround, but everyone knows he really just wants to see my butthole.

SPEAKER_01

Man, he knows me so well. He's the best, isn't he? Is it more? Is it more?

SPEAKER_05

No, that's it. He was it.

SPEAKER_01

Well, he gotta go.

SPEAKER_04

That is he really loved you.

SPEAKER_01

If he's ever written a poem, he did it. I didn't know, I didn't know if Brian wrote poems.

SPEAKER_04

Did he write he ever wrote you a poem? No.

SPEAKER_01

That's a go art, actually. I'm pretty jealous.

SPEAKER_05

That was actually pretty much. Pretty jealous. You're gonna frame it. We're gonna frame it. Yeah. Oh, do please. We'll have him sign it.

SPEAKER_01

I'll drink it. Oh, that's good. You got one? Yep. Hey, production goes. Oh my gosh. Oh, you can't because you're a production? You guys don't have to waste these limes.

SPEAKER_05

Don't have to waste these. Oh, you're having one?

unknown

I have to drive.

SPEAKER_01

I got an Uber. Uber Duck.

SPEAKER_03

He actually is a super cool.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Uber Doug. Uber Doug, but don't I'm not giving his number out, that's for sure.

SPEAKER_06

No, you didn't pick me up.

SPEAKER_01

That's private. He said he picked you in Chuck Up the other day.

SPEAKER_04

I asked him to for like a dinner party at some house. I can plan it. I can always ask him for that.

SPEAKER_01

He said he'd been. What's that, baby? Thanks for noticing. Slam. But they say they're so big, so you're meaning. It's fine. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_05

Get them up.

SPEAKER_02

My grow is delicious.

SPEAKER_01

That's smooth. You know, I thought this was gonna be boring, but it's kind of fun. This is great.

SPEAKER_02

I wish we would have got one ice cold. I'm with you on getting one ice cold. I bet one super ice cold because we've been chilling them with a little bit of water. Oh, that's great.

SPEAKER_01

You're good.

SPEAKER_02

I like those metal cups too.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we got a bunch. We bought a bunch of those through uh for the weekend last weekend and uh of our frozen drinks to get one with that.

SPEAKER_02

On our fast forward game, do you guys get hit at all by that storm? That storm.

SPEAKER_01

No, actually we we uh we two and a half hours was out of electric.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I had to start my show late, and I played like 90 minutes, and then the other band came on, was all good. You know, had a little issue with the credit card machines. Yeah, but you know, I mean the internet, you know, so we had to go cash only for a little bit. And but boy, oh boy, but all my buddies, they had a rough time. You know what I mean? Uh uh uh Mark and uh Dog Days and of course uh backwater. Everybody, everybody had a tough time. Didn't have electrical the next day. High tide went down. I would I was I went out to see uh Nickel Moon on Sunday. I heard the end of that show was it was the greatest show, it was the greatest ending in the world.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, the ending stopped.

SPEAKER_01

It was almost like it was so planned, but it was it was it was it was awesome because I was up by the stage up uh up there and the I mean it's this kicking, he's kicking, he's great as he's a good dude. He he played at 2012 he played the dog uh when it's on the tour coming through or whatever. He played his dog, and and that was my last year there. 2012 was the last my year, the last year at the dog. And actually it stopped for a minute and came back on 2012, and then after that, I mean it's a fish ever since. But anyway, the uh he was there and I was playing outside and he's playing inside, but he kicked it. I mean he kicked it in his last song, you know, a sad song, you know, and everybody sings along and at the end. Well, I mean Dan, if he's going along and singing along and this and that, I mean it shut down. Every all the left except the stage lights and a drummer. He he didn't have a he just plays kick drum, and that was it. And the stage lights were on a generator. So it was perfect. I mean, it lit up the stage.

SPEAKER_04

It was even camera, like the whole company. Everything.

SPEAKER_01

No, we had to use a flashlight to get to my truck. That's cool. Yeah, I had my friend from Hawaii with me, she don't drink, so uh she was driving, and we had to use our phone to get out of the excuse me, out of that place. But the crowd was still it was a perfect ending. I mean, perfect, because I heard lots of like three times, the chorus part, three times, and the whole crowd was lousy. No, he just quit he quit singing, he just let's whole crowd doing it. Yeah, and I guess when he went down to the green room, he said that that's one of the best endings he's ever had to a song. And so he'll remember that one from a while.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, yeah. That's that's cool.

SPEAKER_01

I've never had one of those, I've never had one of those moments, I don't think.

SPEAKER_02

I was at I was at Lake House just relaxing.

SPEAKER_01

No, they shut the lights out usually when I start.

SPEAKER_05

Well, I guess for those of our listeners that don't know who Dale Blue is. Well, who doesn't?

SPEAKER_06

I mean, that's fair, fair. I just I had somebody this weekend come in.

SPEAKER_05

Some people may not know who you are necessarily, but you are the barefoot entertainer.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Mark Burr gave me that bullshit.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. You don't like that?

SPEAKER_01

So anyway, he seems he gave me he when he did to me when I first started playing. He gave me the they they used to put ads on the damn radio and uh stuff uh because he spends way too much money on radio that Mark does. Anyway, the I think sorry no, he should invest in podcasts. Yeah, yeah, he used to spend his money right here. Yeah, that's right. You gotta get him on here. We might wait. If when you get him on here, I'm gonna be a surprise guest. Because I got some stories on his lap. I I got some stories, baby, that he will not tell you. I bought I bought Mark Barrett

Dog Days Era And Lake Celebrity Tales

SPEAKER_01

well on his 40th birthday. I I uh uh uh uh because I played there 19 years. He's 21 years old when I met him. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

When did you run into the Barrett? Like so we can see it.

SPEAKER_01

When they come down here, the uh 1994. 1994, because they started in 93 at the fall, and I started in 94 with RJ. Me and RJ started St. Pat's weekend, 1994. Okay. And the boys were I think 21, 22, they just got out of college, whatever. And uh we we had a big time. You know what I mean? That's been 19 years old.

SPEAKER_04

I used to love like we would come from Party Cove and then we come straight to you. I mean, it was just Garrett. Oh, and that whole crew. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, you would just Well, that's a whole nother podcast. I mean, I mean I can tell you some story about Bobby. I have a feeling this is gonna be a series. Yeah. No, there was no there's no filter. No. No, the the the them damn phones everything. They ruined porticole, they run.

SPEAKER_02

I remember my dad was a beer truck driver for Anna's bush, so I've always been team Budweiser. And then I remember you would go, I remember the first time I must have been like a kid. You went there. You were a kid. I was. But you went and took a Miller light out of some guy's hand and threw it in the trash.

SPEAKER_01

Anybody No, I wouldn't throw it in the trash, I throw it over the rail. Anybody sitting in front of me with a Miller light or a damn cruise light is out. Is out. And I didn't I didn't have sponsorship from them. I didn't have I didn't have nothing. I just believe in the product, and that's what I liked.

SPEAKER_02

And and how you're doing that no sponsorship?

SPEAKER_01

No, no, not at all. Not at all. And and now uh once in a while, old uh uh old uh Charlie Brown, Ed's daddy, they they'd uh they'd send me some give me some stuff to give out, you know, some keychains and some beads or some crap like that. They give me some of that. But people will go crazy. Yeah, you'll go crazy for it. But but but no, I didn't have uh nothing. And and they approached me. That's what's nice. Uh they I didn't ask for nothing. And they they come to me and said, Hey, what can we do for you? You know, JJ, I don't know if you ever met JJ, uh August's uh assistant uh before uh Jimmy Sprick came along. But uh JJ, they come up to me and and said, Hey, what can we do for you? That was it, darling. But dog days I'm gonna be able to do that.

SPEAKER_02

So where did they find you here? Where'd you guys bump into each other? So they're 21.

SPEAKER_01

It's a dog.

SPEAKER_04

94. Oh, you mean probably the year you're gonna be able to get it?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, isn't it? No, no, no. Uh the Mark and Bryant.

SPEAKER_01

Oh no, when they when they when they opened it, no. I was playing, I had kind of playing all the time because I bought a pawn shop, I had a pawn shop over here at OCDB. So I was like Joe and Pawn, right? The lives you've lived by the Glaze Bridge. I had a pawn shop.

SPEAKER_06

Dwayne, are you a dog? Like I swear.

SPEAKER_01

I had a pawn. I kind of semi-retired from the music business. I only played I played at Eddie Sports Bar, and that's when it was up at the little outlet mall.

SPEAKER_04

Remember that? Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And I played there on Fridays, happy hour. That's that's kind of all I did. And I'd you know, I'd kind of back it up and then you know, trying to do the family thing. Well, it didn't work, apparently it didn't work out. Anyway, the so Mark could come in and what was that first girl he was with? Oh, Nastasia. Oh she married she married Chris Chris uh Chris for a while. Uh I think she lives in California now. Foster. She got married to Chris Foster. That should be named.

SPEAKER_05

Sorry, God. Well, that's like I know too much.

SPEAKER_01

No. I knew too much. I know too much. No, you're not. Anyway. You know where the bodies are. Stasia, that's it. She worked for Anza Bush for a while up there at the uh video fan for a while. Did videos up there. Yeah. Anyway, she uh was going out on Mark Barrett, and they'd come in, and Mark would buy me tequila, and and and he we drank Michelob Light. It wasn't the ultra one out, Mickel Light in the old bottle. It was a fat chick bottle. Anyway, the so Mark switched over and started drinking that, coming there, and he'd come in every Friday and buy me shots and do all that. And he he said, uh, Dil, uh because I had a little following then. I mean, a handful. And he said, You think you come over and do uh c a few weekends uh for us and you know and I said, sure, whatever. He was buttering me five five days a week during the summer uh for 19 years. Yeah, and it was supposed to be a weekend or two. And yeah, I remember I remember Mark's fortieth birthday. Cause like I said, he was he was like 30th? 30th, 40th? How old is Mark?

SPEAKER_04

Uh he's not quite as he's not as old as Chucky, so he's he's in his fifties.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so it must be like I think it was his 40s. I remember writing it on the on the side of this. I made some posters, uh, wood poster things. I I went all the way to uh uh Arkansas and bought a uh little miniature jackass. Uh uh miniature jackass. I went down there and got bought this thing and brought all the way back and made this little uh thing, a little rope thing with a little sign on each side that says, Happy uh birthday, you jackass.

SPEAKER_04

It's kind of like the uh from Norway.

SPEAKER_01

He lived on he lived on on KK out there on the highway, his little house out there on the highway, on the road, KK. And I tied up to the lamppost and called him and said, Hey, I said, Get up, your your birthday present is out in your yard. And he said, Well, the yard he's on the phone. I'm right, I'm right over here watching him. I'd probably watch him come out and he goes, What the hell am I gonna do with this, man? He was all doing this. Well, I ended up keeping that thing for six years and fitting at some of them for six years. What did you name it? Nice. Nice ass. It was a jackass, so I call it nice ass. Wait, you're talking about an animal. No, I really don't know. No, I went all in, I well, and this guy, there was like 30 of them. There was 30 of them in this great big area, and this dude had on, and they they'd never even been touched by a human except for feeding them. I we got uh I took a lead rope and a halter down there. We got that on the thing, we pinned it over to the side, got on there. The first time I grabbed hold of it, it jumped this high off the ground, straight up, and trying to hang on this damn jacket. And he was a little miniature thing. Beautiful. I had a cross on the back. The word jackass was beautiful. No, it was beautiful, it was jackass because it was a dude, it was a dude and not cut. So it was a jackass. Anyway, anyway, I say it. I brought him all the way up here and I had a box trailer. I didn't have a horse trailer. Had this little box-in trailer, and I put some hay in there.

SPEAKER_04

Like your Dale Blue trailer? Is that the one you went and got?

SPEAKER_01

No, no, but kind of like it.

SPEAKER_02

But worse. How long had you known Mark at this time? For a while, then, right?

SPEAKER_01

No, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I bet I've known him 10 years. Oh, okay, okay.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I probably know him 10 years. Not quite. No, yeah, probably 10 years when I that's a good time to get somebody.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, no. Oh no. Several birthdays. We went out, we went out several birthdays. I can tell you several birthdays. One time I I skidded all the way down that we used to have the most horrible steps coming down to the dog before they remodeled on that stuff. And that's another thing, too. It cost them a lot of money to remodel that place to replace me when I left. Tell the truth. I had a lampshade. One of these birds, I had a lampshade on my head, and we was coming down the steps, and I lost my control. And I mean right at the bottom of the step, there was a gravel. Oh, it was bad, it's bad.

Key West Trips And Questionable Lodging

SPEAKER_02

I'm a big uh Key West guy. I spent like almost 10 years down there in the winter. So I'd parts into the gator and then go down there in the winter. And and Mark asked me to ask you about because I saw you playing Key West a couple times at Rick, but he said the first time.

SPEAKER_01

I played 11 years in a row there.

SPEAKER_02

But he said the first time that we went down there. He said ask ask about the accommodations the first time I played.

SPEAKER_01

Hell yeah, we we took uh butter stick down. Butter stick my my my is my little uh motorhome I had. Oh, okay. And I'm getting ready to buy another one. No, I'm getting ready to buy another one. I'm getting ready to buy another one. Just like it. It's uh uh it was a 1976 GMC.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

And it's a front-wheel drive, and it looks like it looked like it was kind of yellowish, it looked like a big little stick of butter. But but it's I mean, butter yellow is air sort of. Well, you ever seen that movie stripes? Like that, butter yellow. You know that you know the stripes, the movie stripes? Yeah, no. Nikki? You know, you know, Nikki. You know it? You don't you know the stripes?

SPEAKER_02

The movie stripes Bill Murray's in it, right?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it was it was called the insult uh uh assault vehicle that that uh the vehicle they had. That that was a that was a GMC motorhome. Anyway, the uh so we took it down there and we stopped off in St. Louis and got Billy, one of Mark's employees, who his brother, and Billy was with us. We went down there and Rossi, uh super dude, he talked to the guy that had a parking lot behind and gave us a deal on the parking lot. Well, the cat house is right next door. It's called the cat house. That's where the uh the strippers from uh the red garter stayed. And so uh I got the shower over there. I didn't let the other boys mark it and we were out because I was only what is like they let you park the permission, Rex. I don't even have permission to go to this cat house that's crazy.

SPEAKER_04

They legit put butter stick behind Red Garter next to the cat.

SPEAKER_01

We had no hookup, no nothing, no hookup. We had the generator, no hookup, but uh you know why. So that gray tank just got full. And and so we just just hung out. And and so he got us a good deal to stay there. And so I'd go to the cat house a couple times in the shower, but anyway, the but after that we went out again, Mark went with me again, yeah, and we stayed at the lumberyard. It was a lumber. Like a legit like a real lumberyard, not the old lumberyard that had banned, and they use it for parking. And we stayed there, and the guys at the front that's I mean, like the front desk with the gate. They just like this. And it's what they stayed there. No, no, wait, wait, wait, back up. That wasn't birds like we had to select bus that that time. And so we thought they thought we were somebody. So many buses. They thought we were somebody, so they let us stay there for free. This is expensive to get a place down at Key West. When we stood at one R V park one time in the Bud Light.

SPEAKER_02

There's not any really good RV parks in Key West, you guys. Well, it used to be like I mean, right?

SPEAKER_01

Right on the backside, it'd be a marina. Usually one right on the backside of the street.

SPEAKER_05

That's because most people that are down there have boats that they're staying in, not RVs.

SPEAKER_01

Cassie, Cassie rented a room. What are they doing? I'm not preying got long legs like you, baby. You can't get no fancy boat. Are you kidding me? Dale, Cassie rented a room.

SPEAKER_02

Cassie went in a room this year that was like a hundred square feet. She her and Carrie lived in. She did what now? She rented a room in Key West for boat races. We had a we had a phenomenal time. But her and Carrie in a room, they're like, it's 200 square feet. And we're like, how is that even possible? And the shower was like in the bed. It was crazy.

SPEAKER_01

The shower was in the bed?

unknown

No, the toilet, the toilet was in the shower.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, I get that.

SPEAKER_05

Oh yeah. I can go to the bathroom and the shower.

SPEAKER_01

That's cool as hell. Where's my pillow?

SPEAKER_03

It's like, tell me more. Go ahead. Continue.

SPEAKER_01

No, I went 11 years in a row to uh boat racing.

SPEAKER_02

You do have front part wrecks, like whether you carry it.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I w every every time is different. Because uh, you know, all when August goes down, then uh then they they had a beautiful condo out there right on the on the track. I mean right there on the front. And he wanted everybody at the hotel that year. He wanted them all in winning. And and and so he said, Yeah, you guys take the condo. So I'm I'm laying I'm laying in bed watching the race. I'm laying in bed the next day, laying in bed watching the race from the damn condo. Oh yeah, I was it yeah, I was I was I was spoiled, rotten.

SPEAKER_02

For the last five years, I'm like, I'm not gonna go to boat races this year. Well, I'm gonna go to the house. Every year I go, and it's so fun.

SPEAKER_01

No, it's it's a lot of fun, but yeah, as far as playing, that's I've been offered to go down a couple more times since then, but back then they took care of me. Yeah. Yeah, I was spoiled. Yeah, yeah. Well, uh we when we went fishing, you weren't with Brian then, were you? When we went fishing, I I caught the big uh I caught the big sailfish and I caught a big old Mahi Mahi and a trigger fish, and we had it all to eat the next day and zombies. That was his other garbage.

SPEAKER_02

We went out for Brant's birthday one day and hooked one of the stuff.

SPEAKER_05

Actually, I don't know. I mean that's I I don't think I was probably. I was probably right around that time, is when we started dating. So yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

We went for Brant's birthday one year and we caught a sailfish and we were so jacked up and it got off right before we got on the boat. We were devastated.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I got to go on the the the uh every year I got offered to go out on the boat. Yeah, I had a great boat down. Actually, it was so cool because it was like a 1962 or 63 boat, off you know, fishing boat, and Stan was a deckhand guy, and he was cool as hell. I can't remember the captain, but anyway, they've been with the A B for a long time, you know, taking care of the boat. This boat was has so much history, it's unbelievable. There's a book in there, you know. I mean that people sign it. I remember looking through it and back when uh the day when Don Johnson and everybody I had rumors about him and uh Barbara Scharzan getting it on. They uh their their names are right together on the boat. Oh yeah, they're right together. I mean everybody, everybody's uh sign this thing. Well then there's me and my buddy Cash and George Denny. We signed the boat, we signed the boat, you know what I mean? We we signed we signed the book, and then there's all these celebrities been on this boat and stuff. That was called the Miss Budweiser. Well, that was the last, yeah, it was the last uh year of the high school. It was a cool. Well, they told me, they said uh probably your your hubby told me, or Jeff One said, Hey, they'll you you're gonna go on the boat, you better do it this year because that was the last year we was at Key West. Yeah. When the company sold, they said they're gonna get rid of the boat, and you'll probably never get off to it. And I they offered it, they offered it to me every time I went down for 11 years. And I didn't go on it because we just party. We just party, man. We too hung over to go on a damn fishing boat. Yeah, you don't want to go out. You know what I mean? But I went we went out and we had the greatest time. I like I was about a six-foot cell fish I caught, and uh and then this big Mahi Mahi was a beautiful fish. Yeah, because they take that and you take it right into Oh no, A B A and they cooked it up and we had lunch the next day. Yeah, yeah. With your ex uh mother-in-law.

SPEAKER_04

We did that one year before.

SPEAKER_02

I love it on there. All the bad businesses from QS are coming up here for shootouts. You should have filleted her.

SPEAKER_01

Sorry. Yeah. Oh, I've pilled talked with her.

unknown

Say it.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my god. You guys shouldn't have a pause today.

SPEAKER_02

Shouldn't keep talking. We can add it with that. I like it.

SPEAKER_01

And this is getting pretty serious. I don't even know where we're at, but who cares? Shout out to Barbara. Yeah.

unknown

They all play like a version.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Oh, I hate that song.

SPEAKER_02

So we're about to bottom F in. But anyway. Well, in the timeline of Debloo, we're trying to we're trying to get to where we're at now.

SPEAKER_01

So we were Well, we've said Mark Barrett's birthday. Yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. So you played for the city. I played 19 years at Dog Day. Yeah, and and and it was it was so much fun. Like I said, uh nowadays uh he couldn't get by with the crap I'm doing now. I mean, vice versa. Couldn't get by with what I did then. There's no there's no filters back then for me, and there's no issues. If if I did the stuff that I did back then, I would be in the protesters. Yeah, I mean there'd be protests out there.

SPEAKER_04

That was um the my that was my favorite place out of all the things we got at the lake to go see you in the afternoon.

SPEAKER_01

They would come in there at all. Well, you you probably know Charlie a little bit, all that bunch. I met him when it was 21 years old. Yep. You know, I mean they just get they just got married after 20 years. Matter of fact, just three weeks ago. Yep.

SPEAKER_04

It was two days, I guess Jenny told me it was what two days from then they actually started to date.

SPEAKER_01

So I met him, like I say, when it was called a little bit.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, call her a little bit, and been calling that for that was like uh Midwest boat party days when all those guys would come over and years ago.

SPEAKER_01

Well, they come straight from party code and come in there, and boy oh boy, did I have a good time.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Because they'd been had their boobies out all day. So they would come straight into the the uh the fish, and back then I didn't have a stage. I was on the I was on the floor right before you go up the steps because there's only bathrooms inside.

SPEAKER_04

And you had like the sidebar where like Joe used to work there.

SPEAKER_01

There wasn't no sidebar, baby. No, no, no, there wasn't no sidebar. There was there was steps up in the bar. But no, no, no, no. Wait, there might be a sidebar. There was no bathrooms.

SPEAKER_04

There was no bathroom.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no bathroom. Sidebo. Yeah, you're right. But there wasn't no stage. I didn't know a stage. And the girls now tell me they would sit out there and almost piss themselves because they didn't want to walk by me, because I had to go up to the bathroom. Yeah, that's always a scary thing. Walking by mail is definitely very scary. But it wasn't that bad. Whatever. It wasn't that bad, but but then I had lots of them that come up there and uh I had several come up here. Okay, I don't know if we can even say this. I don't want to say this. Some of the stuff I had doing, they'd come up there and I had I got the golf club as my stand, you know. Oh yeah. And they would they would come up there and they'd already show them their titties and stuff. And they say titties are boobs, which what do you what do you prefer? Either of course. Anyway, they would show them and they'd show them, and then some would come up here and they'd pull their swimsuit over and get my golf club and shh. Oh wow. Oh yeah. Was there a coochie? One time, my kitty. I'm telling some good stories here. I know, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

It was a good old days.

SPEAKER_01

And uh and we missed several years of good stories. We'll have to go back to that later. But anyway, we're all sleeping here.

SPEAKER_06

Anyway, we're gonna keep going. Jesus Christ. Anyways, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

They uh this one girl they're they're from Des Moines, Iowa, and they end up selling everything they had in Des Moines and going down and buying a boat to Key West and give tours, took people out on their big sailboat thing. Great couple.

SPEAKER_04

But I feel like long story short, it's like all the relationships you've made through all the years, and you have such a following and everybody loves you to death, but it all starts from all that randomness, craziness of just you being you.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I'm just well, yeah, I just I'm super lucky. I'm the luckiest got the leg, hands down. I don't give a shit who you are. Luckiest got the leg. I know the some of the best people ever. I mean, rich, poor, they make a difference. Yeah, I know them all. It's all about how someone treats you. And there's there's I got you got a lot of friends. I'm lucky, but I'm like, yeah, you got a lot of friends. Yes, yeah, take me home.

SPEAKER_04

All right, I gotta ask you. So I'm trying to reel you in. So you talk about friends. So when did you meet? When did you meet Nard? Like, when did Nard come about? And then I'll be able to do that. I was just getting ready to say that.

SPEAKER_01

He's my best friend, best friend ever. And because everybody would come in on your shoulders. Let's go. For Nard. Yeah. Because like I said, they all come in there and right there. Well, right above where I was playing, is that that railing up there, the seats up there? Well, that's where Nar would sit. Right above me. Because I met him because uh he knew Risa. Reese was one of his favorite bartenders. That's how he'd come into dog days. He would sit right above me because he knew all the girls would come in. First thing I'd do is do shit like that.

SPEAKER_02

You know, they they would uh show movies and like I put Reese in the top tier, Lagos are bartender. And she's a good girl. She's an OG.

SPEAKER_01

She's she's she's awesome. She's she's been around for a while. So is the production girl, but she's just no, she's just been around. She's not been around. She got nothing on Reese. Are you drinking?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I still have half of the dog.

SPEAKER_01

Cheers. Cheers. Oh my day's gonna be impressed.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Dale's gotta go to dinner after this.

SPEAKER_01

That's why I'm in this goofy damn outfit. Otherwise, I wore something cool.

SPEAKER_05

You look great.

SPEAKER_01

You look great. Something cool, what would have that been?

SPEAKER_04

He wanted his t-shirt.

SPEAKER_01

No, I was gonna wear some red wine boots uh trunks and a red, white, and blue uh Dil Fu King blue shirt, my cowboy hat, you want to borrow those and some red elephant skin boots.

SPEAKER_05

You could have worn that and gone to dinner or changed.

SPEAKER_02

I know it's a lot of the shoes I've ever seen.

SPEAKER_01

I just got crocs, aren't there?

SPEAKER_02

I know they're they're weird.

SPEAKER_01

Indian crocs. Like Indian crocs. I don't know what those are, but terrible moccasins. Anyway. Something. Alright, so how do you would always sit up above me? And and all these girls come in and show your booze because he loves movies. And and and I'm more of an ass guy myself. But see, Brandon. Yeah, I'm pretty much an ass guy. I've seen millions of titties. I don't care. Yeah, I mean, I've seen tons over.

SPEAKER_04

You can buy movies, but you can't buy a nice butt.

SPEAKER_01

Well, you can buy ass, but it costs you. It's yeah, but it's only a little bit. Shout out Tori.

SPEAKER_05

Shout out Tori.

SPEAKER_02

We met a really good friend Tori and she she had a John Flippo met our buddy Tori and she had a big butt. And he goes, Is that real? And she goes, Real expensive. Yeah, exactly. It's all it's all very expensive.

SPEAKER_01

She's awesome. Anyway, Mart Nard was up here and some girls I know he'd come in. I'd go, Hey, my buddy's right up there above. He's wearing that yellow shirt. It's his birthday. Could he go up and give him a smooch on the cheek? Next thing I know, I'd look up her and they'd have her shirt over him. He'd be motorboating him. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_04

And then then So was it Nard's birthday like every Saturday?

SPEAKER_01

Every weekend. Every weekend I saw a girl that I thought would go up there and mess with him. Yeah, well then. Sure enough. Of course he's gonna be my best friend after that. Yeah, that's how that all started. Gotcha.

SPEAKER_05

But you better be glad I got this pillow girlfriend. I maybe have to do. So then, yeah, so you did dog days for you know that long.

Buying Fish And Co And Doing It All

SPEAKER_05

Then you got your own bar.

SPEAKER_01

Well, the reason I had my own bar is because of the little episode down there at the at the end.

SPEAKER_05

That's now.

SPEAKER_01

I had a little some some health issues. And I just got out of the hospital and he took me around to and we went to I mean every damn I mean there's uh several you know right now. Uh uh what uh the Oh shit, what's that one? A little sliding crap, what's it called? Bare barrel. It was abandoned. There was nothing there. Went and looked at that. Went and looked at oh what's that one? Well, actually we didn't go to uh Larry's or anything. No, no, no.

SPEAKER_04

Naughty fish.

SPEAKER_01

Oh shit, I don't know. I don't know. We went to several different places we looked at. I went to look at trailer parks that were on the water over there by oh, what's the name of that name of that place? It's a bar right now, but right next to the trailer park, and they said 1,500 feet of shoreline. Well, this had a dock and it only put like six boats in because it wasn't no with no water.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, is that like uh Betlow Park where the trailer park is? Or what is that? It's off of like it's off F-road, right? Is that what you're talking about? Or where? Oh, Papa Chubby's yes, right next to it.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. I went and looked at that. I should have been there. You guys got the real estate business, you know what the deal and had a little dock out there had like like four and it gets real shallow.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, you couldn't put 170 feet of shore on it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you couldn't put nothing in there. Anyway, I looked at a bunch of properties and Nard uh loved to fish because he go used to go there. And the uh I never even heard of it. Didn't have any clue. Nothing. Well, I went there and uh the first thing I did is uh anytime I go anywhere I order wings or strips. Chicken strips or wings. Yeah. And I can find out exactly what's going on because then this when I got there, the strips were out of the bag and the wings were freaking horrible because they weren't cooked. You know what I mean? No, no, I mean it won't be. When you get the slimy inside or not, oh yeah, they gotta be can't stand that because uh what we do, what we do is we uh bake them off. We bake them off that way that they're they're already cooked before we deep from them.

SPEAKER_04

That Chuck approves of your wings.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I like to give them a crispy wings. I don't want to be able to do that. And and the and the strips, yeah. The strips, chicken strips, we we we uh we make our own ranch. So we use buttermilk and ranch. And we we uh soak them in that at least 24 hours or more before we even cook them off. The strips. And uh the and honestly, if you don't know the truth about it, years ago, uh bulldogs used to have the best uh strips ever.

SPEAKER_05

Stacy and bulldogs ever.

SPEAKER_01

I mean and and and I I my when I first got the fish, I uh we had out of the bag. I said, Well, I'm not doing this, I can't do it. Oh my kitchen got oh, we sell too many, we can't do that, and uh bullshit. And so I went and I bought some to go. A verse. Oh, yeah. I said, You gonna make them like this or better? And I argue with them for uh it took me two years to get them to do it. And then finally did it.

SPEAKER_05

It is worth it.

SPEAKER_01

And and and then then it they turn out better, kind of, I think. Anyway, though, because we soaked them at buttermilk and on my ranch. And uh but then I'll be goddamn they w switch back to the out of the bag. Oh, really? Yeah, that's sad. I love I love Station and Bulldog. Yeah, right. They're great people. And now you you do pizza, right? At your place. So when you when you I honestly I make the sexy pizza in the lake area. Oh, you didn't know. But when you made the move on the sexy pizza? But when you made the move on the physical. I mean, no shit now, I do it. I make sexy pizzas.

SPEAKER_04

You know what is that in there?

SPEAKER_01

I've been in the kitchen for seven years.

SPEAKER_04

Because everybody says Lake's best, but he has this sex type.

SPEAKER_01

No, the first seven years I was at the fit, here's my stuff. I get up at 6 30 in the morning, uh early in the morning, I get out of the house at 7, I do all my chores, blow off the decks, grade the road, fix the ice machine if it's broke, whatever.

SPEAKER_04

I was just gonna say, we've texted you and you're like, what are you doing if I'm fixing this goddamn ice machine?

SPEAKER_01

Yes, yes, clearly. And then I do whatever, and then I get myself ready for the stage. I go to the stage.

SPEAKER_05

Wait, I want to know what that process is. How do you get ready?

SPEAKER_01

Well, since I've been drinking Bud Light, it takes a lot less for my makeup. You get it, nobody else does. You know what I'm saying. Uh did you get it? No? No, you know what that commercial they have with that damn damn goofy ass commercial that's a good thing. Yeah, yeah, that's that's that's my little insight by the way. Little insight jokes, sorry. Yeah. Anyway, I got it. Uh so but for the first seven years, at least seven, sometimes I'd get to go upstairs. I lived upstairs. And and I'd get to go change clothes before I'd get in the kitchen. Sometimes I have to go straight from stage and with my flip-flops and in the kitchen, making pizzas and doing whatever, and and I'd have sauce all on my feet and there and and uh I'd there and then the dishwasher would walk out, and so I'd wash dishes until two o'clock in the morning.

SPEAKER_04

There's no glory in doing a bar. I know I did for uh the seven years.

SPEAKER_01

So the last few years I haven't had I I go in the kitchen just to show off once in a while.

SPEAKER_02

You got a great staff to what was year one at the fish when you owned it? Like what's that? What was the first year of that you owned the fish or fish ago? Thirteen. Thirteen? So we're at thirteen years?

SPEAKER_01

No, it's 13 it's actually 14 season, I guess.

SPEAKER_04

Your staff is solid and they love it.

SPEAKER_01

I've had I've had most of them uh for minimum six, seven years. You're good to do that. I've had uh some of them for the whole 13.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, they absolutely love it. You talk about that.

SPEAKER_02

That means that speaks volume about you and everything you do there. That speaks volumes about you and everything. Like I've worked at at the gator, we have the same bar staff for the colour. I got pictures of you. No, but I'm saying, like, we've got each other.

SPEAKER_01

We've got a picture. Can we can we put that on the screen?

SPEAKER_04

We'll make sure that we put that on this podcast. We'll put that on the screen.

SPEAKER_01

Because you secular shit.

SPEAKER_04

It's a little joke, actually.

SPEAKER_02

No, that picture. Yeah, I look fetish. Yeah, yeah. Is that cool? When was that? It was like an LO profile deal, right? I think 10. Oh, probably. That was like right when lazy was.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no, that was on our that was on our damn documentary, DOC. For Profile Magazine. 53 bars. It took us three days, two nights. Oh, yeah, we're on the bag. We took the blue water and your boy was uh driving. Yeah, Captain. Your little boyfriend. He's your boyfriend then, probably. Yeah, he was just my boyfriend. Huh? Yeah, he was just my boyfriend.

SPEAKER_05

When was that? 2000.

SPEAKER_01

We got married in 2003. I wish you would have come along. I don't know. Been a lot more from them, old dudes.

SPEAKER_05

I love uh no tricks were allowed. That's what he told me. Huh? That's what he told me. No chicks were allowed.

SPEAKER_01

Well, he's crazy. Brian. Sounds like a big thing. He didn't ask me.

SPEAKER_06

He didn't ask me.

SPEAKER_01

I would have had you and a production girl there.

SPEAKER_06

You would have gotten zero.

SPEAKER_02

And I would have gone to jail. Now, there's there's nothing more than I love a good nickname.

The Speed Bump Nickname Origin Story

SPEAKER_02

And there is a nickname that you there's a girl that works at the fish. Oh, yeah. Speed bump. Speed bump. Absolutely. And it is one of the most insane stories ever. And then that she goes by speed bump, I think is crazy. And then you guys made a post other that said, Happy birthday, speed bump.

SPEAKER_04

No, no, it's back. She's back.

SPEAKER_01

No, she we uh after uh she left the fish about three years ago because she per she got uh her uh nursing job and and a mama, she's a mama now. Her boy's two years old, and it was uh I I got a video today. I got a video today, this morning, uh, from her. She woke him up. He's two years old. First thing he says is Del Del plays marsh tuckle. Del no, Del plays can't you see, no, no guitar. That's all he's talking about. As soon as he gets up. That's what we're playing. Anyway, we used to talk about it. Speed bumped she gets what happened. Here's what happened. Can she super, super, super server. I mean, she don't she runs. I only got one other person that does that now, and that's Lisa. Lisa's speed bump ran all the time. And I I was so disappointed and and bumming when she wanted to be a bartender because I missed her as a server. That's what they all want to do, be bartenders or whatever. Anyway, thank God Lisa doesn't want to be a bartender. Anyway, so my partner, Nard, took him that he'd take them out on the on the boat once in a while, you know, all the staff, and they went over to backwaters and they like to drink out rumpies. Well, she can't drink rumpies. She anytime that she gets really drunk, she kind of just wanders off. You know what I mean? And uh that she's only line 90. She's about your size. Production girl, you she's about your size, little b thing. Little b thing. Anyway, anyway, so they go, hey, let's have some rumpies. And she goes, Oh, yeah, yeah. Well, so she's I think she told me she had to go to the bathroom or something. She wandered off. Well, she wandered off over to the parking lot and decided to take a little nap between a couple cars. Well, one of the employees that worked there was getting ready to leave and starts backing up, and she didn't run over her arm, she just got it and and it the little car that the the people were driving with, I guess, big enough to run over her arm. They just scooted it across the parking lot. And and oh yeah. And she ended up in hospital about till about four in the morning. And and she was like kind of wild, and they had to tell her to put her top on once or twice. I don't know what that happened to have the top. Nar was telling me anyway. The next day the next they they woke up at like four in the morning, five in the morning to change her bandage. Because she was staying with Keanu and a couple of my girls that work here. And she they took her to her their house, and they lived there in town, and they got up and she didn't even know what happened. She goes, bandage? What are you talking about? Oh no. She had no idea. No idea. No clue. She made her four o'clock shift. She was working the next day at four o'clock. Oh, dang. And she made her four o'clock shift. And when she came in, she's all bandaged up. And I was up there going, and she was still the same way. Bam, bam, bam. Fast you can go. I'm I'm I'm trying to think. I uh at first I thought maybe pothole. You know what I mean? Because I I because they ran over her.

SPEAKER_02

Speed bumps got about her right.

SPEAKER_01

And so then I come up with speed bump, because she's a little b thing. She's got little b boobies. And so it could be a double thing. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_04

And it just stuck. Yeah. And she takes it in stride.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, she does. I tell her she knows she knows. She knows. I'm she if she sees this, she'll she'll be laughing her ass and go, Dale, Dale. That's what she'll say. Dale. Anyway, man.

SPEAKER_04

Back on Wednesdays.

SPEAKER_01

So you need to see it. And she's back on Wednesdays. Shout out to Speed Bumps. It's cool as hell. Speed bump. But I call her mayo. She got hats. I wear one when she works, I wear a hat that's got speed bump on. She got hats.

SPEAKER_02

If you see this, go to Fish and Co. ask for speed bump and give her a shit ton of money.

SPEAKER_01

No, no. Seriously, dude. Yeah, because she's got a beautiful child and and he he's two. He's cool as heck. Anyway, but that's that's speed bump. So did you did you have a bunch of notes or something? Is that what you you're bringing up this stuff? We're just good at it. Somebody's talking to you. No, you don't even know this stuff, Mike. It's like your little note you had to introduce me.

SPEAKER_02

That was bullshit. I still can't believe we got the wrong color. Orange. Orange.

SPEAKER_01

I don't think you get orange. I think he's messing with each other. Okay, okay. If you're writing a song, what what rhyme is it orange?

SPEAKER_02

Orange. Huh? There's a MM deal that's like Pornge? No, MM rhyme a bunch of stuff with orange.

SPEAKER_01

No, I I I I did it fucking 20 years ago.

unknown

It's a orange.

SPEAKER_01

20 years ago. Orange? No. I told everybody there's only one thing.

SPEAKER_05

This is a hard door hinge.

SPEAKER_01

No, I did it 20 years ago.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, that's true. 20 years ago. Honestly, they're not going to be able to do that.

SPEAKER_01

Somebody here told me here a while back that like somebody come up with come up with I go, I've been saying that damn thing for 20 years. Orange. Door hinge. Malagro.

SPEAKER_05

No. Yeah, that's negative. Let's fire it up. Let's fire it up. That is a hard one. Well, so and now you've owned Fish and Co. for how long?

SPEAKER_01

Since uh 2000. Uh well, I bought it in 2012. Okay. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

And it's been going strong for now.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's for sale if you want to buy it. Everything's well yeah, because he's I'm only paying three percent.

SPEAKER_04

We're not putting a damn pool in there.

SPEAKER_01

No, I don't know. I'm not putting a pool. No, that was our original plan. That was? Oh yeah, that's the original plan. On the backside. On the backside, we got plenty of property over there. That was our original plan. You can't put a pool. And then I found there we got three zones. We got we got the down there at the tiki bar, which when I got there, the tiki bar is not like it is now. No, it's holy shit. It was a piece of crap. I mean, it's horrible. We tore that so much down the first winter. Oh, it's it's it is the dookie bar.

unknown

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

Dingy. That sounds like an ice cream. Dingy, like your little dinghy guys ride around the other night. You guys are riding around a little dinghy the other night.

SPEAKER_04

By the way, girls' dinghy day is uh next week, next Wednesday.

SPEAKER_01

I got a dinghy day tonight, I think. Unless you guys kept me too late.

SPEAKER_05

Don't you have a little dinghy boat sitting up on top of your thing on your in edge of bar?

SPEAKER_01

That was it or was it what kind of boat is that? That was at down at the rooster.

SPEAKER_05

No. At the fishing code.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. A friend of mine.

SPEAKER_04

Timmy Seabowl?

SPEAKER_01

No, no, no. No, that was a different one. Smaller than that. No. Friend of mine. Eric Jensen gave me that boat. Okay. It's one of those little bitty things that you it's supposed to be a pedal, but I put an outboard motor on the back of it.

SPEAKER_05

Okay. It's sitting up on top of the like the coat. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

You must have found a fun fact.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, it says the orange thing, because I always thought the same thing. And as Anderson Cooper interview with Eminem, they said you can't ride anything with orange. And he said, like door hinge. Like I put my orange four-inch door hinge within storage and eat porridge with Torridge.

SPEAKER_01

Well, yeah, that's 20 years after me. Yeah. That's 20 years after me, son.

SPEAKER_02

No, I know, but also like for someone to just say that and that like no one's been able to ride that.

SPEAKER_01

I wish I would recorded it years ago. Me talk talking about door hinge. You wouldn't be sitting here right now, probably. No, no, I'm not a rapper. You should try it. But he probably heard me talk about it.

SPEAKER_02

It was probably Eminem if I heard you talk about it.

SPEAKER_01

Damn Eminem. I saw him years ago.

SPEAKER_05

He was cool as hell.

SPEAKER_01

Kansas Rock. Well, he picked you up when he was like, Kansas Rock after the Kansas Speedway called Cans Rock. Kansas Rock. Yeah. Oh, okay. It was one of the best, one of the best concerts I've ever seen.

SPEAKER_04

If you could go to concert right now, who would you go see? Like who would you pay money to go see? Right now?

SPEAKER_01

Somebody that's now or somebody can go back.

SPEAKER_05

Ooh, both. Go back and then right now.

SPEAKER_02

Can I can I can I re- Can I re-fix this question a little bit? Yep. We're at the fishing co. It's the last night that you're ever going to play music. You have three people to open for you. Whoever. Who are they?

SPEAKER_01

That's I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

You don't?

SPEAKER_04

Anyone somebody past somebody present?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, it could be somebody past somebody present. Yeah, yeah. Anybody? Anybody. Anyone. Well, Hank Jr. would be one of them. Okay. He'd be one of them out of the three for sure. Okay. You know what I mean? And then probably. Oh my goodness. It's a hard one. I know. It's hard. It's not it's not probably who you think. Not not no big celebrity rock guys. I'm not much into that.

SPEAKER_02

I would think who could have the biggest party. Like who could have the biggest party? Like I would think. Well, hey, Junior's one of them right there. Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_01

You know what I mean? Okay. Maybe not today as much as back when. But and maybe you know what it'd be cool to have his uh his boy. Junior? The third.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

He doesn't know. Hey, Junior the third. You don't you never seen him?

SPEAKER_02

I think I'd say MM.

unknown

Huh?

SPEAKER_02

He's not a country guy.

SPEAKER_01

No, he's no, he's heavy metal. That'd be wild. He's like he's like it.

SPEAKER_05

The screaming music.

SPEAKER_01

Damn, I don't know, man. That's that's a tough, that's a really good question, Mike. Is this why you get the big bucks? You can think about it.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, I don't really get the big bucks. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

My f favorite band ever is Marshall Tucker.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_06

Marsh Tucker.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

But I would have to have the I would have the have the old Marshall Tucker with with Toy Cardwell and his brother Tommy still alive. Okay. Okay. Yeah. If that was the case, they'd probably be at my top, even before Hank Jr.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Because yeah. I'd have been a little bit more.

SPEAKER_05

And I'm assuming I'm assuming you're gonna choose Ruba McIntyre, right?

SPEAKER_01

No, but you know what I tell you with that show, right? I met her one time. She did? Yeah, she wanted me to go to the roof.

You know, and uh, but anyway, I told him, I told him, and he'd come up to me, and and honestly, I didn't really know him that well. He knew me more than I knew him.

SPEAKER_04

A Lumberyard Joke To Close It Out

SPEAKER_01

Well, I I can tell you one. I'll tell you one, because my my father was in a lumberyard business. Okay. Right across the street. Oh, here, Lake Lumber. He worked here for 25, 26 years, right across the street, Lake Lumber. And but anyway, so it's kind of a lumberyard joke. Okay. So this this guy had this lumberyard, and he his guy that graded all of his lumber that came in and he passed away. So he needed somebody new. Well, he wanted his foreman said, Hey, I got this guy, he he's the best there is, grading lumber. And and so he said, Well, bring him in tomorrow and we'll check him out. So he came in, this guy's blind. He had a stick, you know, he couldn't see nothing. He said, Well, how's he gonna grade lumber? He said, Trust me, he's the best there is. So anyway, he went up there and said, Well, we'll try him out. So he went up there and he put a piece of lumber out there and he got that board out there, and the guy said, That's fur. A-grade number one fur. And so perfect, that's what it was. Well then he brought another piece out there and he smelled that damn lumber and goes. That's a clear pine. Some of the best. He went through this like for four or five boards, you know what I mean? And and he got it. Oh boy, what a minute and goes turn that board over. Turn it over. That's easy. That's a shit house door for turnable boat. Okay.

SPEAKER_04
