Welcome to LDS Seminary Teacher Helper. I'm John Merrill Kirkman, welcome to the podcast that helps LDS seminary teachers grow and become one percent better day by day to become the best teachers in the world to help the best youth in the world. Now, first, you need to understand that you are not here by accident. Jesus Christ called you to this calling and appointed you at this time, at this place, with these youth to help them come unto Christ and to change their lives. You are not here by accident. You are chosen. You are called as a seminary teacher. Whether you're a called seminary teacher or a hired seminary teacher, you are here for a reason. He stands with you, He stands behind you, and He believes in you. And I believe in you too. You are valuable. You serve in His hands to do a great work. You are a mighty servant of God. Do not forget that. You are His hands. You are His servant. He stands with you. He stands behind you. He walks with you. He believes in you. He loves you. I'm reminded of a World War II story there was a statue of Jesus Christ with extended arms and extended hands. During the World War II battles and bombings, the hands of the statue were blown off. After the war, the town came together and discussed what they should do with the statue. Should we rebuild the statue? Should we make new hands and put on the statue of Jesus? Eventually, it was decided to leave the hands off and to include a plaque that said, Ye are my hands." I want you to understand that you as seminary teachers are the Savior's hands. And day by day, as we walk in the room, we're ministering to His sheep, caring for His fold. And One big decision you can make right now that will help you as a seminary teacher is to walk with Jesus Christ in this ministry. Early in my teaching career, there was a teacher that would count days to the end of the school year. And I'll admit, I've caught myself counting days to the end of the school year or till vacation or till a holiday. Now my saying is, Don't count days. Make the days count." Look at every day as an opportunity to touch a life, to lead somebody to Christ, and to change their future. Every day is an opportunity to convert somebody to the magnificent power of Jesus Christ. The second great decision I want you to make right now is to make up your mind that you will never talk poorly of a student. For example, never say words like,"Oh, he's such an idiot. He's such a punk kid." Let's decide right now that I will never talk about a student in such a way but always consider the fact that they are a child of God. Occasionally, we have to talk about somebody with another teacher or a leader or a parent, and we have to explain some negative behaviors. But let's not let that define them in our heart. Even though we all understand some are gonna be challenging and hard and harder to love than others, but let's not allow space in our heart to hate a student. Let's close our heart off to disliking a student. In our hearts, we love all our students and pray for them to their Heavenly Father. In summary. Number one, you are called for this work, and I believe in you, and Jesus stands with you. Number two, let's not count days, but let's make days count. And number three, let's live every day to convert God's children. Let's not use negative language in any way towards them. You are awesome
