You are awesome! You are a hero! You got this!
In the last episode, we did a pass and write activity. In this episode, I wanna share pass, mark, and write, which is a scripture study activity. Now, for this activity, you need to print up a scripture study page for your students. This is very easy. Go to lds.org, look up the scriptures you need, and copy and paste them. Now, if you wanna use NIV, you simply search that chapter book, NIV, on the Internet, NIV being an easier reading level. And sometimes I use that with chapters that are very difficult or even just any chapter because I really like the NIV. Copy and paste those scriptures onto, uh, one side of the page and leave some room on the other side of the page. When I talk about a side of the page, I'm talking the left side of the page versus the right side of the page. So what I often do is I'll create a text box on the left side of the page, fill in the text there for the scriptures, and then it'll leave the right side open, the right side of the page open so that they can write. I pass out these pages to everybody and, and then I say, "Okay, you're gonna read for one minute, then you're gonna write for one minute." Okay? So what you do is you read, mark some phrases, and then off to the right, start writing some insights of what you're getting from the scriptures. And then we say pass the paper. Simply pass it to the person in front of you and create a simple rotation of the passing. And walk the students through this rotation, so if it snakes through the class, they know where they're gonna pass the paper. Give them another minute to continue reading and marking. What they do is they pick up wherever they read, left off in their reading. They read and then they mark for one minute, and then you say, "Okay, now write for one minute," and then pass the paper. And so every time they're getting the paper, they're continuing their scripture study, marking and as r- they're reading, and then having some time to write. Highly engaging. And then after five or six passes, you could say, "If you finish reading at this point, go back to the beginning and mark Find some phrases," excuse me, "that haven't been marked yet. "Mark them, and then write them, uh, and write about them to the right." And you can continue this activity. Highly engaging. Keeps all the students with you. And then what you do is when you, you get to a point where you've done this for five or 10 minutes or whatever you wanna do it, 10 or 20 minutes even, depending on how long the scripture block is, and you could say, "Now, you got this page that you're getting now is your page, and you're gonna keep it read over all the markings, read over all the writings. Now turn to your neighbor and share something that you found was helpful." To you, something you learned from somebody else's writing. Then you could have and set up a class discussion at this point. Highly engaging activity. Now, you may c- you could do this with scriptures. You could also add in some s- some quotes from general authorities. So let's say your scripture reading for this block is only ten verses. Add in all those verses and then go through the curriculum, highlight all the quotes that it has in the curriculum, and add those to the study page. And then once you've got this all set up with the quotes and the scriptures and places to write, then you can begin the passing the paper, read, mark, and write. And this is an excellent way to engage students in scripture study so it's an awesome engaging activity. Very similar to the last one, but this one is they're reading a couple verses, then marking, writing, passing. Read, mark, wr-write, pass the paper. Very simple, engaging. I like to use this three or four times a semester. Easy, because it is so engaging. You guys are awesome. Have a great day.
