Welcome to Cotton Quick Take by PCCA, your short weekly update on the factors shaping cotton markets and the broader agricultural economy. Thanks for joining us. Let's take a quick look at what's moving the market this week. Cotton enters a relatively quiet week with Friday's USDA WASDI report expected to be the market's biggest event. The report will incorporate last week's higher U.S. cotton acreage estimate and provide updated global supply and demand projections, giving the market a clearer picture of the new crop outlook. Weather also remains a key focus. Forecasts continue to favor much of the cotton belt, helping yeast production concerns. While recent rainfall benefited many areas, West Texas could still use additional moisture, and parts of South Texas would welcome a drier stretch after weeks of heavy rain. Carlos Garcia, PCCA's Director of Sales, has provided additional insight into the weather.
SPEAKER_01I think this week the focus will be on the weather. The crop is planted. It is in the field, even though it's in various stages. It is there and ready for us to take it to harvest. We just need Mother Nature to cooperate so that we get the rains that we need in order to make a crop.
SPEAKER_02Looking back at last week, December cotton futures closed at 77.12 cents per pound, gaining 74 points despite mixed market signals. Traders wait a larger U.S. acreage estimate, weaker export sales, and a softer than expected jobs report, while crude oil had little influence compared to recent weeks.
