Between Rooms is a podcast about the spaces we survive, the ones we outgrow, and the ones we finally learn to build for ourselves. I’m Elizabeth McCracken, author of Between Rooms, and each week I sit down with women who have lived through grief, family rupture, caregiving, addiction, burnout, divorce, betrayal, reinvention, and the quiet catastrophes that change a life.

This is not a show about tying pain in a bow or pretending everything happens for a reason. It is a show about telling the truth — about what happened, what it cost, what we carried too long, what we had to release, and what we know now that we could not have known then.

Some rooms break us open. Some rooms teach us to breathe again. And some rooms, if we are brave enough, become the doorway to who we were becoming all along.

There are rooms we choose. The house we buy, the job we take, the marriage we enter, the nursery we paint, the classroom, the hospital room, the kitchen table, the church pew, the office where we learn how much of ourselves we are willing to give away. And then there are the rooms we never would have chosen. The room where someone tells us the truth. The room where someone leaves. The room where someone dies. The room where we realize we have been strong for so long, we no longer know what rest feels like. I'm Elizabeth McCracken, and this is Between Rooms. This podcast grew out of my memoir and out of the honest, complicated truth that women are often expected to carry entire worlds quietly. We carry families, we carry careers, we carry grief, we carry secrets, we carry people who cannot or will not carry themselves. And sometimes, whether by choice or catastrophe, life pushes us into a hallway between who we were and who we are becoming. Each week I'll talk with women who have lived through those in-between spaces grief, addiction, family rupture, caregiving, burnout, divorce, betrayal, reinvention, and the kind of change that rearranges everything. But this is not a podcast about tragedy. It's about what we learned after the room changed. What did we misunderstand about ourselves? What did we keep carrying too long? Who helped us survive? What did we finally stop apologizing for? And what does safety, peace, faith, and identity look like on the other side? We're not here to make pain pretty. We're here to tell the truth with tenderness. Welcome to Between Rooms, a podcast about the spaces that broke us open, the women who helped us stay standing, and the rooms we are brave enough to build next.
