Today we cover Day 4 of VBS and ask Was Jesus Just Someone Who Lived a Long Time Ago?
Start counting in your head. Ready? Go. Okay, let's see how far you can get before we start the Phantom Podcast. And stop. How high did you count? Nice. If I didn't stop you, you've could have gone on forever. Well, sort of. You'd have to stop some time to sleep. But there's some things that do go on forever, and that's what we're talking about today at the Fam Podcast. Fam stands for five awesome minutes. It's a little mini show that encourages and equips your crew, and today we're recapping Illumination Station Day four. Let's start today by seeing if you got our memory verse, John eight twelve memorized. Say it with me. Jesus spoke to them again. I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life. I sing it because it helps me remember it. But now that you know it, here's the challenge. I want you to say the verse, but I will call out different ways to say it. Now if you finish the verse before we're done, just start back in the beginning and say it again. But be listening because I'm going to change up the way I want you to say it quickly. So be on your toes as you repeat the verse. Here we go. Start by saying it like a robot. Now slowly. Now deep and low. Now squeaky like a mouse. Now singing. Now whispering. Now we're your tongue out. And stop. Great job. I could have done that forever. Well, maybe not forever, but close to it. Each day at Illumination Station we have a spotlight question we try to shed some light on. Today's question is, was Jesus just someone who lived a long time ago? Sure, there is tons of historical evidence to back up God's word that Jesus really did exist all those years ago, but that was a long time ago. What does Jesus have to do with us? Well, to answer that question, we looked into the Bible, God's message to us, and we read Mark chapters fourteen, verse forty three, all the way through chapter sixteen, verse seven. We saw where Jesus was arrested, given false charges, disowned by his friends, mocked, beaten, and given a crown, not of gold, but of thorns. If your hands are free, take your fingernails and put them on your scalp, the top of your head. You can only imagine what it would feel like if someone pushed those thorns into your head. They took Jesus to a cross where he died. In Mark chapter 15, verse 39, it says, When the centurion saw the way he breathed his last, he said, Truly, this man was the Son of God. Those people who killed Jesus hoped that this is where the story would end. No more Jesus. Some things don't last forever. But then we read that Jesus is alive. He has risen. He defeated death. And because Jesus is who he said he was, he lived a perfect life. He lived and died and rose again. And now we can be saved from sin. That's right. There we have it, straight from God's word. Was Jesus just someone who lived a long time ago? Yes, and he still lives. Jesus lived, died, and rose again to be our Savior now and forever. Why don't we play a little game? It's a musical challenge today. When I say go, I'm gonna hold out a note as long as I can, and you all try as well. Let's see who can last the longest singing out one note, or if anyone in your crew can beat me. Three, two, one, go. Some of you are still going down out there. But you can't last forever. You see, God created everything good, but sin, going against God's rules, has made a mess of everything. And because we're all sinners, we're in trouble. The punishment for sin is death. But here's the thing Jesus lived, died, and rose to life again to be our Savior now and forever. Because God provided Jesus, and Jesus gave up his life on the cross, we can be forgiven and live forever with him. That is called the good news of the gospel. That we can admit that we're sinners and believe that Jesus really is God's perfect sacrifice for us, and confess that he is our Lord and Savior, and we can enjoy his goodness forever. Amen. Alright, why don't we do the joke of the day? Why couldn't they play cards on the ark? Because Noah was always standing on the deck. And now the question of the day for your family to discuss. Who needs to hear the good news of Jesus in your life? And what can you tell them that's good news? We'll see you tomorrow for the final day of VBS at Illumination Station.
