SPEAKER_05Hello, listeners. I am Father Travis Crotty, the chaplain of Bishop Healen Catholic High School. As we prepare for this athletic competition with the Crusaders, we want to take an opportunity to offer a pregame prayer, keeping in mind the safety and the enthusiasm of all sporting events for the safety of our own students and those of our opponents. Let us pray in the name of the Father, into the Son, of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, and thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Amen. Thank you, listeners, and go crusaders.
SPEAKER_11Just exactly what he said.
SPEAKER_12And uh looking forward to uh seeing Gaswent pitch. I know he's ready to uh get there, uh get out on the mound and show what he can do. We've got the uh coaches and umpires meeting at uh home plate right now, so we will be starting here very soon. Uh we'll take a break, and when we come back, we'll have the lineups for you.

SPEAKER_09And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic Radio station.
SPEAKER_12Welcome back, everybody. Uh waiting for game two to start. Healing getting ready to take the field and uh start their warm-ups to get ready. Uh John, I know you talked to a couple parents uh from both sides between games, and uh what did they have to say about what they what they saw in that first game?
SPEAKER_11I kind of think they, you know, for the most part, Mike, they reiterated what we said. Um, you know, the great job by the Lamar's pitcher keeping us off balance. We were a little impatient on the curveball, but but they've all seen him before, and they just said that's just the kind of pitcher that he is. He he goes at you and and tries to get you off balance. That's exactly what he did. And third time around, we were able to kind of catch up with him a couple times. Um coach uh uh Cander, he was he was fairly happy with with how his team played. Um he didn't like the airs. I did talk to him a little bit. Had a couple uh uh you know errors that are kind of typical of a first game. Um cost them a couple runs, obviously, with the pass ball and uh well, I probably went in there as a wild pitch, but um but we can't say enough about the job that Moravic did coming in. You know, he he had that uh he didn't have that scared look, Mike, to me. He just was out there, he was ready to go, and once he got through that first batter, he kind of was pretty consistent the rest of the way.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, he was. Uh he was not intimidated at all. And uh, you know, the first first batter he he walked with four pitches and then struck the next one out and uh had that situation where the bases were loaded and was able to work his way out of that and uh keep Lamar from scoring any runs. So uh looking forward to Nathan Gaswin taking the mound for the first time.
SPEAKER_11Just a terrific young kid uh for Gaswin. Um you know I see his mom and dad and and him at church on Sundays sitting in the front row, just just a super good kid with not only in school and at church, but obviously he's a bulldog on the field, and and we're gonna see that. Uh he's worked extremely hard in the offseason. Um anybody that knows the Gaswin boys is you know knows that his dad and his and his uncle and just a hard-working family uh uh farmers, um, cattle, cattlemen, and and you can tell the kid's got good work ethic, and I'm sure he was raised that way. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, he's uh uh he's a great kid, and it's a great family, and we are lucky to have them in the healing system and lucky to have him on the mound. Let's get going, man. I'm anxious to see him. Yep, here we are with the first pitch, and McKinnis is up to start the game. He'll be playing catcher for Lamar's this game, this time around.
SPEAKER_11There's that there's that sh there's that strike that we were looking for in the first game. A nice low strike inside corner. Good start there by uh Nathan.
SPEAKER_12Fouled off to the left side.
SPEAKER_11Came back with that same pitch on the outside corner, but I'm guessing he's gonna come in on him again, Mike. Look where that kid's standing. I uh he's coming in. He's coming in on him. Let's see where the catcher's. Oh yeah. Exactly what he needs to do.
SPEAKER_12Fouled at the plate, still no balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_11I'd stay there, Peyton. Stay right there.
SPEAKER_12And like we talked a little bit about uh John, they saw some the velocity from Lefavre and went to Moravic, and now they've got to turn right back around and face velocity with gas went.
SPEAKER_11I'd come right up at his fist, right up at his fist on that inside corner. There's no way he can cat can catch up with that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_12Oh. Fouled it off again.
SPEAKER_11Well, he changed the speed up on that.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, keeps the ball uh count at no balls, two strikes. Yeah, it looked like it might have been a little bit of a breaking ball on that one, but uh Nathan was a little frustrated that he wasn't able to get that third strike on that.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, come in on him, Nathan. That pitch was outside ball one, one ball, two strikes. Beautiful setup by Peyton down the outside corner. Let's come back in now. Let's come back in. That's exactly where he's setting up.
SPEAKER_12Down the third baseline, just foul. Last year, whenever uh Nathan pitched, he was always wearing Spongebob square pants socks. Uh a little bit of a change to his uniform this year. Not able to wear the SpongeBob socks, but uh I have been told that uh SpongeBob is on his body somewhere. So uh it's it's still there, it's just not in the socks anymore. So uh count still one and two, and uh McKinnon's doing a really job of extending this at bat, and he's right there on top of that plate.
SPEAKER_11You gotta come in, you gotta come in, and I'd set the precedence right now. Right there. That's my plate.
SPEAKER_12You gotta take it. Yeah. Got McKinnis looking on that one uh for out number one, brings Clary to the plate. Uh pitcher. Clary will be pitching this game. Just a beautiful pit uh pitching right there. Just beautiful. Yeah, Nathan's just a smart pitcher and uh going to Augustana, gonna study kinesiology. I you see all these college athletes studying that. I never knew what it was until my kids told me the other day. I said, I I need something for the radio, what's kinesiology? And my occupational therapist daughter explained it to me, so now I know.
SPEAKER_11That's definitely a word that I can't pronounce. I probably wouldn't major in it, Mike. That's the first curveball I think we've seen him throw right there.
SPEAKER_12Pitch outside for ball two. Talked to Gavin's parents between games and uh I asked him where he got his speed, and they said it wasn't for either one of them. Nice pitch. Pitching there for a strike, one ball, two strikes.
SPEAKER_11I know we were a little hard on the the umpire in the first game, but you know that we gotta remember that's his first game out there too, and he was consistent. He you know, he had he had his zone.
SPEAKER_12It wasn't necessarily the zone we wanted, but that ball grounded to Beck at second base, over to Lefavre at first, Aiden Lefavre at first for the out. Beautiful play.
SPEAKER_11You can tell right now Gaswin is just he's painting the corners. And he looks good right off the bat, does not look nervous.
SPEAKER_12Stepping up to the plate is Tolson playing center field this game for the Bulldogs. Yeah, so far Nathan looks really comfortable out there on the mound. Which you'd expect. Good pitch there, swing and fouled off, just off Ericsson's glove for strike one. Yeah, I talked to Peyton between games and um he said he needs to be better with the bat, but now the bat will come. There's the pitch. A little low for ball one, one ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_11That was a pretty pitch. Just a beautiful, nice slider on the outside corner, Mike. Just must have been just a little bit low.
SPEAKER_12Here's a wind up in the pitch. Inside, and Tolson, you could tell he was glad that didn't hit him. You just see a little bit of sigh of relief out of him there. Yeah, Peyton, I said, I could tell by your body language in the seventh that and he goes, I didn't agree with it at all. It was a strike, so um. Oh. Just missing that. Just missed on the inside corner there. Three balls, one strike. That's the difference in umpires, because the first game that would have been strike three or strike two right there. Yeah, this guy's definitely calling it lower strike. Yep. That pitch is in there for strike two. Brings the count to full. Three balls, two strikes on Tolson. Gas went working pretty fast himself. Not quite as fast as beautiful. On the outside corner for strike three. It's a good first standing by the three up, three down for healing in that inning. We'll take a quick break and be back uh with more healing baseball.
SPEAKER_01You can take a swing at Better Vision with Gretkin Family Eye Care in Lamar's. SPEAKER_09And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_12We are back at Bishop Mueller Field with Heal Baseball. Uh Lamar's has Clary on the mound uh to start this game. He pitched against Healan last year up in Lamar's, and and he was a freshman and he did an extremely good job, uh very competitive pitcher uh against that lineup that we had last year. Uh so I I'm expecting being a year older, he's gonna be more mature and more confident. And uh these batters are gonna have to come to the plate ready to swing the bat.
SPEAKER_11Well, it looks like he's throwing strikes and warm-up. Looks like he comes right at it. So I'm assuming I'm assuming when we get the batter up there, this is how he's gonna throw. Let's see how that curveball looks. I think a nice little hook. Nice little hook.
SPEAKER_12And he's not a big kid, but he's he's got good uh good control. And this is Ann's cousin, huh? Yep, it's one of her cousin sons. One of her 107 first cousins, I believe.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, with the Vondrax. Well, they're everywhere.
SPEAKER_12It's no different than Tritz and Lore. There's a million of them out there, too. There is. Yes, there is.
unknownOh shadow.
SPEAKER_12Let's see. JJ Hope steps in to lead off the game for Crusaders. Looking to get on and and wreak some havoc on the base pass. Pitch inside for ball one. Have to wonder if the runner bouncing ball to the shortstop. Oh, that was awfully close, folks.
SPEAKER_04Man.
SPEAKER_12I think we as they like to do now in college ball, I think they'd put in their be putting their hands to the ears. Uh asking to check that one on replay. That was awfully close. JJ's speed really showed right there. It's a bang banger. Uh one out for healing. Brings Peyton Erickson up to the plate.
SPEAKER_11Uh I mean that was a routine ball at the shortstop. Just to give you an idea how fast JJ got down the line.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, there's there's no reason that that should have been that close other than JJ's speed. I mean, he was he was flying down that baseline. And I'm guessing if we ask him after the game, he was safe. Boy, that pitch uh not sure how that was a strike, but it's a strike. Breaks it one ball, one strike. Peyton's just not getting any.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, he's not getting any breaks up there, is he?
SPEAKER_12Uh that's what oh, nice ball back up the middle. Right up the middle. Single up the middle for Erickson. Erickson on first base brings uh Caleb Lefaver to the plate. He will be DH'ing this game. Uh Mason Moravic went from pitching to he's gonna be playing left field for Healing. Uh got a pinch runner coming in for Healing. It's Hendricks Heaton. Uh that way Peyton can get in and get the gear on and uh keep the game moving between innings. So got Heaton on first base as a pinch runner. We've got Caleb of Favor up to bat with one out. Just a beautiful piece of hitting by Erickson. Hit it just driving it right up the middle. That's what he said he needed to do, was he he needed to put the uh bat on the ball, and uh he did a good job there. That pitch in there for strike one, no balls one strike to Caleb. Caleb with a couple hits that first game. I'd like to add to that uh here in this one. Heaton's got a pretty good lead over there on first base. Here's the pitch outside, ball one, one ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_11One thing Lefavre does is you know, i anybody that's done soft toss or hit off of a T is you you you you look to drive that ball straight up the middle, and you can see by the stance and by his head that that that's where he's looking. And his both of his hits in the first game were right up the middle.
SPEAKER_12Yep, yep, he did a great job taking that ball right back up the middle. And Clary steps off here. That technology uh is wreaking a little bit of havoc with Lamar's right now, so uh Heaton keeps getting a little bit farther and farther off first base. That pitch there from Clary outside, two balls, one strike. Have to wonder at some point if Heaton's gonna be going every every time he gets an extra step or two. So Clary looks over, pitch to the plate, outside for ball three, three balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_11So Boy, I think you know what, if you're gonna go, I think this would be the pitch. Because the favor he's a contact hitter, so well and he's he's gonna get something to hit here.
SPEAKER_12If if Clary, if Clary's got control, it it's gonna be where Caleb can can put a bat on it. And there it is. Oh grounds it foul down the first baseline. Three balls, two strikes. Heaton leading off first base. Heaton just an eighth grader. That pitch was outside for ball four. Got runners at first and second with one out. Bring Schaener up to bat, and Shaner was very impressive that first game uh at the plate. He made some really solid contact and and hit the ball really sharply uh to the left side of the infield and threw.
SPEAKER_11Mike, he'll jump on this first pitch. One thing that I liked about him in the first game is that uh he jumped on that first pitch. He knew he was gonna get something good, and he jumped on it.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, if if uh if you're someone who likes your batter to have patience, uh Shayner's not the one to have up there because he's he's if it's there, he's gonna swing.
SPEAKER_11You know, sometimes you know we the best pitch you're gonna get is that first pitch. And I know there's there's two two rules of thumb on that is uh sometimes you you know a lot of people like to take that first pitch, but me, you know, I when I was hitting, I'd love that first pitch. Usually that the a lot of times that's the best pitch you're gonna get.
SPEAKER_12That's how you become a Hall of Famer, John. That pitch would blow for ball one. I know John told me don't bring up the Hall of Fame thing, but they just give they give you anything when you pay your tuition off, Mike. Not every day I get to share a cramped booth with uh Hall of Famer. I mean, John and I, we gotta start brushing our teeth better before these games because we are close. It's a little tight in here. One ball, one strike. Sometimes I think we gotta take turns standing in the booth just so we can. I can see the right field line, John can see the left field line.
SPEAKER_11Yep.
SPEAKER_12Pitch.
SPEAKER_11Oh.
SPEAKER_12Yeah. Tried to check his swing, went around on that. One ball, two strikes. Yeah, he wants that one back. You know. Clary doing a good job, though. He's uh uh still showing he's got that control that he showed last year as a as a pitcher. That ball goes behind the batter all the way to the backstop. Runners will advance. So we've got runners at first and second. With one out.
SPEAKER_11Just make contact.
SPEAKER_12Just just make contact and we get get a run in here. Yeah, Shaner's got a chance to uh get the first RBI of game number two here for Healing.
SPEAKER_11Just got one job to do here. Get in, get in.
SPEAKER_12Ball gets away. Here we go.
SPEAKER_11Heaton scores. First run for that young kid and his varsity debut.
SPEAKER_12Heaton scores on the pass ball. Makes the count full at three and two, and LeFavre advances to third on that pass ball.
SPEAKER_11So you know, it almost looks to me like that catcher got crossed up because I don't know how he missed that pitch.
SPEAKER_12That pitch is inside for ball four. Schainer draws the walk, puts runners at first and third, brings up Tommy Carroll, who ended the first game on a great diving catch. He laid out he's moved over to right field for this game with uh Gasmore. On the mound, so catcher steps out to give some signals. Not sure if Shaner's got speed to go, but uh they're worried about him. So catcher making sure all the infielders are on the same page, and Shaner does have a pretty good lead over there. Boy, he's got a really good lead. Clary looks back. There's the pitch. Swing and a miss by Carroll. Ball gets away from the catcher, but not far enough for LaFavre to score. But Shaner is able to take second. So now we've got runners at second and third with two outs, with one out.
SPEAKER_11Oh, I think Tommy'd like that pitch back. That was right down the middle. He took a nice cut at it.
SPEAKER_12Clary comes set. Wind up. Here's the pitch. Nice. Nice. Hard hit ball to the third baseman. LaFaver was able to get back, so we have the bases loaded.
SPEAKER_11Great swing, great cut. That just was a tough play down the line. Even if he makes that catch, Mike, I don't think he catches him at first base because he had to reach back right on the line.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, it was it was a good stop by the third baseman. I just don't know if there's any way he was going to get him. Brings up the pitcher, Nathan Gaswent. So we've got the bases loaded with one out. Nathan's got a chance to help his cause here. None of the runners being held on, so they can get a fairly sizable lead. Nathan fouls that first pitch back to the net. No balls, one strike. There goes Dylan Knapp showing that speed, waiting to get into the batter's box here at a batter or two. Aiden LeFavre is got a chance to open this game up in the first inning. Aiden LaFavor's on deck. Yeah, Nathan's got a chance to really help his cause here if he can fouls that one off toward the healing dugout. No balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_11Get a fly ball, uh, put the ball in play. Yeah, he's got some pretty good speed down the line.
SPEAKER_12That pitch looked a little high, but it was called strike three. And it's it's got to be tough for someone as competitive as Nathan when you come up with the bases loaded, not to amp it down just a little bit and and not want to try to do too much. Uh Aiden LeFavre steps in with two outs and the base is loaded. So here you go. The the young Lefavre's got a chance to uh uh make a mark in this game as well. And he's hit by the pitch on that.
SPEAKER_11That just got away. I think he was trying to throw a curveball there, Mike, and he just I just don't think he snapped it.
SPEAKER_12No, I don't. And isn't it interesting that both of Aide LeFavers RBIs are a walk and a hit by pitch? He he hasn't made contact with the ball, folks, and he's got two RBIs. There we go. That pitch hit him well enough that it untucked his shirt. That brings Dylan Knapp to the plate. Base is loaded two outs. Healing leads two to nothing. Pitch inside to Dylan for ball one. Aiden's getting himself all back together down there on first base. And again, none of the runners are being held on, so they can take a fairly sizable lead.
unknownNice.
SPEAKER_12And that ball's hit back up the middle.
SPEAKER_08Oh, he got it.
SPEAKER_12Oh shortstop makes a good play. Fields it. Very good play. Overruns second base, but is able to get back and get the out for out number three. Healing scores two runs in that inning after one. It's two to nothing. We'll be back after a short break.

SPEAKER_09And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_12Welcome back to Bishop Mueller Field. Like to take a moment to thank some of the underwriters for uh Catholic Radio and Healing Baseball, Heinemann Family Dentistry, Gretlin, Gretgen Family ICAR, and Culligan. Uh appreciate the support that they uh show to Catholic Radio. And Nathan Gaswin's back on the mound for inning number two, win the three up and three down. Very minimal pitches thrown that inning, so he's off to a good start. And uh he's throwing pretty hard here even in warm-ups.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, he he uh he's very focused. Notice the win, Mike, in the first game that win was coming straight in uh from left field to home plate and and uh it's kind of shifted. It's it's it's kind of going out towards center uh a little bit, which um in the first game it was really holding the ball up. You notice the outfielders are playing very shallow. And uh I think if you hit the ball down the down the line now, so if you hit it to right field, it's gonna go. I mean, if you look at that flag right now. And some of that's just discipline at the plate. If you know that that that wins going out to right field, if you're disciplined enough to take that ball to right, you're gonna get some extra base hits in this game.
SPEAKER_12First pitch from Gaswent. Swing and a miss there for strike one. Nathan settled in really well. Here's pitch number two. That ball's low. One ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_11You know, one thing as a catcher that I like to do, I'd like to see where that uh where that batter would stride. And if you watch uh if you watch him as he strides, look where that right foot goes. His right foot goes over toward toward the first base side. So I'd come on the outside corner. There's no way he's gonna be able to reach that outside corner when he swings.
SPEAKER_12That's a good point. Peyton tried to frame that uh as best as he could to get strike number two, but that's exactly where he's going. It's he just can't get it. Yeah. That pitch in there for a ball, three balls, one strike to the leadoff batter. Nathan's gonna come back with some heat here, I think.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, he's going outside corner. There. Yeah. Yep. And he doesn't like it. He doesn't want that pitch. And he thinks it's a ball because when he's striding, he's way over to the right.
SPEAKER_12Yeah. Yeah, he thought that was ball four, started down toward first base. And he got caught looking for out number one.
SPEAKER_11That's just a good piece. That's that's a good piece of pitching and catching right there. The catcher, they set him up outside, outside, outside, and they came back and jammed him on the inside, and he wasn't even looking for that.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, that was that was uh strikeout number three for Gaswend here and uh one in the third inning. So he's off to a good start, brings Peters up uh to take his chances with Nathan. Pitch just a little bit high for ball one.
SPEAKER_11It's the difference between game one and game two. That's a strike in game one and a ball in game two, and that's just uh the zone of the ump.
SPEAKER_12Pitch in there for a strike, one ball, one strike. Yeah, the first base umpire's like, you got all the heat now. I'm standing out here and enjoy myself. Yeah, yeah. Here's a pitch by Gaswent, swung on. Shayner feels it, throws to first, in time.
SPEAKER_11Well, that's a good thing. We got about a six foot four first baseman right there.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, it is it's nice. And you know they say in soccer speed kills if baseball hype helps.
SPEAKER_11It did in that case. Nice play by our third baseman. Yeah, good job, young man.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, well, Favor had to step on his tiptoe to get it, but he was able to get that. First pitch here by Gaswent. A little inside for ball one.
SPEAKER_11Not much, not much. You know, Peyton's setting up his body a little bit outside, so it's bringing that ump out a little bit, but I'm not so sure that what didn't catch corner.
SPEAKER_12That pitch breaks in there for strike one. One ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_11Oh, he's coming back in. He's coming back in.
SPEAKER_12Oh, just threw that one by him. One ball, two strikes on the batter. Yeah, Nathan's got a good command of his pitches right now. He he's feeling pretty good about the way things are going so far. You can tell by his body language. Pitch outside, ball tube, two balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_11If you're uh you know, if you're a young young ball player, Mike, uh Nathan's a good pitcher and and and Peyton's uh a great catcher to come watch how you how you you work inside out, you know, inside, inside, pop it on the outside. I mean, Nathan does a really good job of that, and he and he did it last year too. So the problem with that is sometimes as a defender when your pitcher's in control of the pitches and working inside in, it it's easy to get kind of lull you to sleep a little bit. So you've got to be on your toes.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, if you're if you're going up against Gaswinner'll favor, you don't want it you don't want them to get comfortable and get settled in. You want to get on them early. No. Uh once they get settled in, you're gonna be in real trouble. That was ball three. So full count here on the Lamars batter. Uh Gass went looking for the strikeout. And he gets it. It's a nice pitch. Goes down swinging, out number three. Three up, three down for Lamar's. We'll be back after a short break.

SPEAKER_09And now back to your Crusader Sports.
SPEAKER_11Jack, the son of John Stevens, who my wife taught in junior high out at Immaculate Conception back in the day. You just got too many ties to the community, John. Good family, the Stevens is. Mary and Don, grandparents. Yep. Shout out to them. Huge Catholic radio supporters and just good all-around people.
SPEAKER_12Beck leads off the second inning here for Healing. It'll be Beck, Hope, and Erickson. First pitch. Low for ball one. Looking for that first hit. Now it'd be a good time to get it. Pitch in there for strike one. One ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, clearly likes to play that inside-outside game, too. He's he's got some decent command of his pitches. We just happened to get a couple hits off him in that first inning.
SPEAKER_12That pitch was inside. Ball two, two balls, one strike. There he is. He works rather quickly too. There's a pitch. Outside corner for strike two. Two balls, two strikes. There we go, Chase. Choke up a little bit. Protect that plate. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss for strike three. That's a nice, nice curve by curveball by Cleary. That'll bring hope to the plate with one out. Grounded out third to first his first time up, and it was very close play at first base.
SPEAKER_11So uh let's see where that third baseman plays him. I think they're playing way back for someone with his speed. I lay one down so fast.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, if he got it halfway between home and third, they're not gonna get him. No. That pitch outside for ball two, two balls, no strikes. I think JJ be uh taken here, but he might have the green light. Here's the pitch. That ball's low, ball three, three balls, no strikes. Yeah, you have to wonder with his uh as aggressive as Healing was in that first game, if he might not have the green light here.
unknownNice.
SPEAKER_12That pitch way outside for ball four. So hope is on. First base with one out, brings up Erickson, did a nice job hitting the ball back up the middle the first time up. Ended up scoring the first healing run. Gotta love Peyton's look, man.
SPEAKER_11He's got that is that old school or what? Got those socks up. I mean, Mike, you and I grew up. That's that's how we grew up. Yeah, that was the only way you could wear them back then.
SPEAKER_12I know. Pitch way outside. Yeah. Hope advances to second on the wild pitch. Yeah, I love that look. I love that look. Yeah, more and more, more and more kids nowadays need to go to that. Everybody wears them all the way down to their shoes. It's the old school look. I like it. Yeah. Hope's got them on that way too. One ball, no strikes. Here's the pitch. That ball in there for strike one. One ball, one strike. Nice pitch. Nice pitch. Yeah, as as wide as that first one was, that was a good pitch to come back with. Yep.
SPEAKER_11I seen them now. Let's let's drive that ball up the middle. Any base hit out of the infield's gonna score hope. Yeah. Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_12Oh. Oh, that was strike two. Catcher didn't hold on to it. Normal a lot of times you don't get that if you don't hold on to it, but it looked a little low, and one ball, two strikes. Second baseman trying to hold hope on base out there, which leaves a pretty good hole between first and third.
SPEAKER_11I mean, they're both over there, Mike. I mean, you got a hole between first and second. And and third and short. I don't know what they're they're second baseman, just kind of standing there. Oh now he's moving, now he's moving. Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_12He wanted that. That's a little outside. Low for ball two. Two balls, two strikes. Clary looks in for the sign. Comes set. And there's the pitch. That almost almost hit Erickson. We got a full count. Full count, three balls, two strikes. Hope out on second base. As many times as Peyton gets hit behind the plate, he should have just taken that for the team and tried it down to first base. Oh, it's just natural instinct to get out of the way.
SPEAKER_11That's ball four. Ball gets away from the catcher. And that's where JJ can make you pay. I mean, that was just he just bobbled that a little bit in front of him. And JJ's at third.
SPEAKER_12Hope advances third on that, brings up the designated hitter, Caleb Lefaver. And Heaton goes in to run for Erickson. I'm a little surprised.
SPEAKER_11McGuinness is catching after throwing 100. I think he threw 108 pitches in that first game.
SPEAKER_12That's a lot on your arm, man. Yeah, especially this early in the season. Now he's out giving signals to the infield on what they're gonna do in case Heaton takes off. Uh LeFaver steps in with one out, runners at first and third. Got a good contact hitter. Oh swing and a miss there for strike one. Sun shining directly into the right fielder's eyes. He's out there with his glove down and one hand up over his eyes. So if you can get something up in the sun, might be able to. Oh, that pitch is in there for strike two.
SPEAKER_11You know, he really jammed him on that first pitch, and then he came back on that outside corner. That's really actually that's a really smart pitch because I'm sure Lefavre was looking at him coming back in. Heaton with a good leadoff first base.
SPEAKER_12Caleb drives that between short and third.
SPEAKER_11Hope scores the run. It's a perfect example of sitting back and waiting and taking it to where they aren't, Mike. Shortstop was playing over behind almost toward the second base, and Caleb just took it right where the gap was.
SPEAKER_12That brings up Schayner. Runners at first and second with one out. Healing now leads three to nothing.
SPEAKER_11He's gonna turn on this one, Mike.
SPEAKER_12Clary comes set. That pitch is low and outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Great great job hitting there by Caleb, like you said.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely.
SPEAKER_12He seems to know where to go with the ball whenever it whenever it's gonna be most advantageous. Or when he takes a cut, he takes a cut. Yes, he does.
SPEAKER_11He doesn't get cheated.
SPEAKER_12No, it's he's definitely getting his money worth at every pitch. Clary looks in for the sign, comes set. There's the pitch. High and outside for ball two. Two balls, one strike. First, heaton on second. One out. RBI opportunity here for Shaner if he can put the ball out there and play. Here's the pitch. Oh, that catcher did an excellent job of framing that because that was way outside. Two balls, two strikes. Now Shaner's got to protect.
SPEAKER_11For some reason I think catching is McGuinness's natural position. Pitching just because he's a good athlete.
SPEAKER_12Clary comes set. Here he is with the pitch. Shaner pops that up out to right field.
unknownBoy.
SPEAKER_12Heating tags, and for some reason the right fielder threw to the catcher. I don't think the right fielder can. He had trouble with that.
SPEAKER_11That sounds right in his eyes. Yep. Yeah, he was. I don't think he could see the cutoff.
SPEAKER_12I think he just threw it. That's what it looked like. Uh that brings Carol to the plate with two outs. My favorite first, Heaton at second.
SPEAKER_11Uh that saved uh advance on the base, uh the ball is in the dirt way out to the right.
SPEAKER_12Tommy Carroll up at the plate, walked his first time up. Clary comes out, pitched uh foul down the first baseline.
SPEAKER_11Good swing there. Anyone that's watched Tommy, and I've been watching Tommy for the last handful of years. He's the same age as my grandson, and and Tommy's really filled. He's he's really filled into his body. He looks uh so much stronger than he did as an eighth grader playing.
SPEAKER_12Here's the pitch. Outside. Good job. Good piece of running by Heaton. Got away from the catcher. Heaton was able to advance to third on that. Let's see what uh Jacob draws up here. We got uh first and third with two outs, two balls, one strike on Carroll. Here's the pitch. And pitches outside.
SPEAKER_11Almost do a delay delay double steal here, Mike. I don't know uh if he's thinking that way, but uh it might be a good opportunity to manufacture a run here.
SPEAKER_12Three balls, one strike, the pitch outside ball four. That's gonna load the bases. Brings up pitcher Nathan Gaslin. So here, Nathan, again with the bases loaded. Chance to help his cause. Let's let's hope he can come through this time. Yeah, he could really open it up here. Yeah, he's coming through on the mound. Now he can come through with the plate. This is a great opportunity for him. That pitch is low and outside for ball one. Got caught looking last time. Strikeout. Yeah, put that head in there. Bow your neck, young man. Runners aren't being held on, so they've all got sizable leads. Here's a pitch from Clary. That pitch is outside as well for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. McGinnis gonna go out and settle Clary down a little bit, have a conversation with him.
SPEAKER_11I mean, this is a huge bat for both Healing and for Lamars. I mean Cleary, uh, if he can get out of this with only giving up one run, he's he's had a pretty good inning. But uh for Gaswin, he gets a base hit here. I mean, this really opens it up.
SPEAKER_12Cleary looking in for the sign. Come set. Here comes the pitch. That pitch is outside as well for ball three. Three balls, no strikes. Well, we'll take an RBI the old-fashioned way. You can just walk. I can I can handle that, Mike. I'm gonna guess Nathan does not have the green light.
SPEAKER_11I would not think so.
SPEAKER_12Clary comes set. Here's the pitch. That pitch is outside as well, ball four. He is all of a sudden just struggling getting that ball across the plate. He was needing. Nathan draws the walk. LaFavor advances to third. Carroll goes to second. Base is still loaded.
SPEAKER_02LaFavor.
SPEAKER_12And Aiden LeFavor's up. Young LeFavre, every time he's come up, he's had an opportunity to get RBI's. Let's see if he can finally get one with a hit. Hit by pitch last time, got an RBI.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, clearly was about a half foot outside on all those pitches last one. There he brings one back in. That pitch is in there for strike one. He needed that for it for himself. Would have been a nice pitch to jump on, but I'm sure that uh Lefaver might have had the sign to not take a pitch there.
SPEAKER_12Pitch is way outside for ball one. One ball, one strike. Base is full of Crusaders. Ducks on the pond, as they used to say when you went over young. Clary with the pitch. And there for strike two. That was a pitch. That was a good pitch. That was a very good pitch. I bet Aiden wishes he could have that one back and take a swing at it. Clary comes set. Here's the pitch. Yeah. That's on the outside corner for strike three. Healing scores two runs that inning. As we move to the top of the third, score is Healan four, Lamar Zero. We'll be back after this break.

SPEAKER_09And now back to your Crusader Sports.
SPEAKER_12He needs to have his hearing check because there's no way we sound anything close to that. Very kind of you, Coach O, but uh we've got all season to work on it and get better, like we said during the first game. John and I are new at this, and we're gonna grow as the team grows.
SPEAKER_11So maybe we'll have that Jack Buck call by the end of the season. There you go.
SPEAKER_12There you go. Gaswent doing a great job on the mound. He's faced the minimum, six up, six down. He's got four strikeouts. Uh and coming to the coming to bat in the bottom of the third here for Lamars to take their chances with against Gaswent are pick McDougal and Albrecht.
SPEAKER_11By the way, I just got to give a shout out to this. This field looks just absolutely tremendous. The sisters of uh St. Francis Field. Um Friar Cliff's just done a wonderful job of just putting together just a pitcher perfect ball field. Uh no, Dale Roder and the Alumni Association, uh Jeff Newman, uh Kevin Capisi. Uh and that uh the touch em all club has has done a just a wonderful job.
SPEAKER_12First pitch is in there for a strike, strike one, no balls, one strike to pick. Yeah, Lamar said that they're gonna use this opportunity to go to their school board and say this is why we need a turf field, so we could have been playing at home tonight. Just gorgeous. The blue fence in the outfield is just beautiful. That pitch on the outside corner for strike two. We're not gonna we're not gonna complain about that outside call there. No, no.
SPEAKER_11No balls, two strikes on that one. You know, one thing that uh Nathan does is he makes it, he makes it it he makes it hard for ump not to call that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_12Ground out to Beck at second base, throw over LaFavor at first for the out.
SPEAKER_11When you're hitting your spots, it just it makes it that much easier to get those calls from the umpire because when you're hitting spots, that ump, he's assuming you're gonna be right around the plate. You know, it it versus if you're a little if you're wild and constantly off or uh up and down, this umpire just has got to love calling the game right now with Nathan because he knows he's gonna be right around the pitch or right around the zone.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, McDougal steps in, that first pitch is in there for a strike, takes a good cut at it. Uh Nathan's doing a great job of missing uh barrels tonight. He's picking them up and putting them down. That's good cut there for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Yeah, and going to Augustana College, which is a very good Division II program. What's he gonna study, John?
SPEAKER_11I think he said kinesiology, Mike. There he goes. Swing and a miss for strike three. He got him on that one. That's strikeout number five. I got yeah, I got my English degree.
SPEAKER_12That was one word I could pronounce. Brings Albrecht to the plate with two outs here for Lamars in the top of the third. Boy, we are playing really shallow. Uh it just man, Nathan is really dealing that. That Albrecht takes a good cut at that one and swings and misses for strike one. Yeah, he's locked in. Another one swing and a miss for strike two. Yeah, he and he's not wasting time between pitches. I might be able to get home when the roast in the crock pot is still warm and the mashed potatoes are fresh. Yeah, yeah, good play. Bounced up yet. Bounced up the middle to Beck at second. Great play. Great play. Goes to his right, fields it, makes a throw to the favor at first for the third out. Three up, three down again. We'll take a break.

SPEAKER_09And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_11That sounds goes down tonight, supposed to get to 37.
SPEAKER_12Welcome back everyone to Healan Baseball. We're heading to the bottom of the third inning here. Healan will have Knapp, Beck, and Hope coming to the plate. Uh they've got a lead four to nothing on Lamar's in this second inning. But uh, you know, Clary is really pitching a solid game. He's just uh struggled a little bit with control, but when he's on, he's been on and very impressed with him as as a sophomore. Uh he's gonna do nothing but get better and and grow, and he's gonna be somebody that uh Lamars is gonna be able to rely on the rest of this season and into uh the next two years.
SPEAKER_11He kind of lost his way for about two batters last inning, and he just had a little trouble bringing that ball. He was he was outside on uh on a couple batters, and and uh I think that kind of cost him, but then he kind of found it and got it back in. But yeah, I agree with you, Mike. He's he's solid. He he reminds me of McGuinness, maybe maybe not with quite the velocity uh that McGuinness has, but kind of the same arsenal. You know, curveball slider, uh decent fastball.
SPEAKER_12Yep. He toes the rubber, knapp steps in. First pitch to Knapp is swing and a miss, strike one.
SPEAKER_11Keep that head straight, Dylan. Keep that head straight. He's pulling that head a little bit.
SPEAKER_12Another swing and a miss for strike two. It I like between innings when you watch some of the parents. Brad Gaswin always has to be here when the first pitch. He almost missed it. He came running in and jumped into his chair right before the first pitch was thrown. Must be a superstition thing or something. Dylan fouls that one off. How dare you go sit in his seat? Yeah, I've I'm no, I've I noticed right away last year that uh they took command of the seats they wanted at Bishop Healing baseball. Oh, just foul. Nice rip. That was just a little bit foul down the third baseline. Dillon would have still been running if that would have been fair.
SPEAKER_11Just missed, maybe a foot on the left field line.
SPEAKER_12Got a pretty decent crowd from Lamar's here tonight. Especially since they were expecting to be at home. There you go. Another pitch in there. Dylan fouls that one off. Extending the at bat. Clary comes set. Here's the pitch. Fouled another one off. A good at bat for Dylan. He needed this. This is that's got to be the six or seventh pitch of this at bat coming up. Sometimes that gets overlooked when a batter is able to extend a pitcher seven, eight, nine pitches. It it it wears on that pitch count.
SPEAKER_11Yeah. I mean, we forget sometimes these high school kids are on a on a on a limited pitch count. There you go, nice.
SPEAKER_12Pitches high for ball one, one ball, two strikes. Good job by Dylan. He's he's wanting to make contact and laid off that one. Here's the pitch. There he is.
SPEAKER_11Nice. He deserves he earned that.
SPEAKER_12Rips that over the third baseman's head for a single. He earned that. He did I'll tell you what, he really worked the pitcher on that one. Yes, he did. He uh he did a good job extending that that at bat, and uh now we get to see him as a a base runner in a field position instead of coming in as a a pinch runner. So he's already taken a sizable lead over there, and you know he's gonna have Clary's attention during this at bat. Pitch inside to Beck for ball one.
SPEAKER_11I bet he's going on this pitch, Mike. This would be a great pitch to go on.
SPEAKER_12Dillon will be going at some point. We all know that. It's just a matter of when. He's got to come in. There he goes. Good call, John. Pitching there for a strike. And they got him.
SPEAKER_11I have a feeling that I wonder if Chase missed that call. That should have been a hit and run.
SPEAKER_12Yeah. He may there may be a conversation about that later, but first game or second game of the season. It's early. He's young.
SPEAKER_11Good throw by the catcher. That was a really good throw by the catcher. Because Dylan had a great jump.
SPEAKER_12Beck fouls that one off. One ball, two strikes. Yeah, good job by the second baseman catching that and getting the tag down because you gotta be thinking he's fast, he's coming. I gotta I gotta get there quick. Here's the pitch by Clary. Nice. High and inside for ball two. Two balls, two strikes. Good eye, Chase. That's just a great eye. Pitch was inside for ball three. Three balls, two strikes. I think uh McKinnis thought that might have been strike three. Beck, of course, felt it wasn't strike three. Here we go. Here's a pitch. That pitch is outside for a ball, ball four. Peck takes first base, brings JJ Hope to the plate. Who walked his last time up. Want to remind everybody, Healing will be back at home on Tuesday against Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson. Game times are at four and six. If you can't make it out to the stadium or the ballpark where you should be to see these guys, these kids, you can catch all the action here on Catholic Radio. First pitch in there for a strike. Pitch outside for ball one, one ball, one strike. McCleary really likes to work fast, doesn't he? Yeah, he does. Beck doesn't have quite as big a lead as some of the others, so I'm not sure that he's gonna be going anytime soon. There we go. Nice job. That ball gets under the shortstop's glove. Uh we're not gonna worry about what Jay Wright, the official scorer, gives him. We're gonna give him a base hit on that. Beck advances to second. That's THTH as far as I'm concerned.
SPEAKER_11It was it was a tough play. Yeah, he had a slide to make that play. Yeah, he had a slide to make that play. That would have been a tough out. Even even coming back to second base, he would add a tough out.
SPEAKER_12Brings Erickson to the plate. Uh got a hit his first time up and walked the last time. He's scored two of the healing four runs. Looking to add to a great second game so far. Clary taking a while looking in, slowing down a little bit now. Here's the pitch. Erickson squares like he's gonna bunt. Pitches there for ball one. One ball, no strikes.
SPEAKER_11They're not holding uh back on it. We could get a couple more steps out there. There we go.
SPEAKER_12There he goes. He's uh now he's like to thank Shram Electric for being an underwriter of Catholic Radio. Clary has really slowed down with his pitching since he's got runners on base. Ball outside, throw down to second.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, they were setting him up for that. I was wondering why the shortstop and second baseman weren't they weren't covering. It was just kind of yeah, throw down to second.
SPEAKER_12Beck was able to get back in, but you're right. They they're leaving him alone, and then as the pitcher goes into his windup, they're sliding over to the base. Two balls, no strikes count to Erickson. Here's the pitch. He bunts it. It drops. Third baseman can't field it. Great bunt. Bases are loaded. Great bunt. One out. Everybody moves up a base. Beck at third, hope at first, or at second, Erickson at first, brings up Lefav. And if you're Clary or Lamar and Lamar's, this is not who you want up with the bases loaded. That was an absolute perfect. And it would, I mean, it popped up. It wasn't even toward the ground. No. So Heaton comes in to run for Erickson, and everybody's taking large leads out there. And LaFaver hits that down the first baseline. First baseman is not able to field it. One run scores. Two runs score. LaFavor legs out a double. We've got runners at second and third.
SPEAKER_11It's a great piece of hitting by LeFavre. One out. Just lined it right over the first base.
SPEAKER_12First pitch in there for a strike. No balls one strike to Schainer. Yeah, isn't he the one who drove it out there? He drove it out there. He had to be on a dead run to make the catch. So yeah, I would rather be way out and have to run back in than have to turn and go the other way. Here's the pitch. Grounds it to short. Heaton scores from third.
SPEAKER_11He did the job. He he he put the ball in play and got a run in. That's exactly what you know, that's exactly what you want.
SPEAKER_12That brings up Carroll with two outs. LaFaver at second base. Healing now leads seven to nothing. Here's the pitch by Clary. Outside ball one.
SPEAKER_11I remember watching Tommy's dad play. He's an outstanding athlete himself. He looks and he looks like him, he runs like him.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, they're they are twins. Fouls that one off at the plate. One ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_11And I'm thinking his mother, Amy, was quite the athlete herself. She probably, you know, the athletic ability probably comes from her side of the family.
SPEAKER_12I'm guessing if you ask her, she'll say yes. Yeah. I'm guessing that uh dad will have a different story, but we all know who's right. That's right. Clary steps off. A little bit of a technology issue with the headset for the catcher.
SPEAKER_11You know, this is something that's different, Mike, than I I never had this. Uh these catchers now have this. your piece where the coaches um where they call the pitches uh uh from the dugout and it you know with the walkie-talkie basically yeah you had to call everything yourself didn't you it's just it's a different it's a different ball game. I mean these uh when I was playing I mean uh the catcher called the game catcher and the pitcher you were in sync with the catcher in today's game and the the coaches they give the the catcher the pitch um and the pitch usually comes from the coach and it used to be by signals but now it's by walkie-talkie they have these little earpieces in there and and uh it's just I don't you know I don't know if I like it or not. Um that pitch it gets away from the catcher. It it definitely changes the game it speeds it up a little bit um and I'm sure that was part of it. It also you know in this day and age of of trying to pick signals um you're always trying to pick off the signal from the other team and this prevents that because you know your coaches aren't giving signals they're just talking into the mic you know into the microphone.
SPEAKER_12Yep. Two balls two strikes to Carroll the Favor was able to advance to third on that pass ball. Pops that up down the right side and out of play. Yeah until someone figures out how to hack into the the headset system which you know at some point's going to happen. Yeah yeah I agree from that aspect it is more effective because you can't steal signs but me personally when I was catching I I I enjoyed calling the game it kept my mind into the game a little bit more I know there's a couple rules of thumb to that in in in most programs college high school even in the pros the uh the you know the coaches are calling the game now that ball bounces up there the benefit of having field turf right there Mike it he didn't get the ugly hop three balls two strikes to Carroll Gaswent is on deck like to see Tommy get on here and give Nathan the chance to uh drive in a run here's the pitch from Clary that's inside for ball four Carroll draws the walk brings up Nathan Gaswent again Nathan's up with runner in scoring position and a chance to help his cause and let's see if he can settle down just a little bit and make contact and get that run in Clary taking a long look in I'm guessing Tommy's gonna go here on the first pitch or two Clary thinks so too he steps off and looks over toward first. Now back on the rubber here's the pitch good job of framing by McKinnoness there that was a good job that was a little outside but he you're right he did a great job framing that ball strike one there to Gaswent Nathan I think wanted either wanted that one back to take a swing or didn't agree that it was a strike. Here's the pitch swing and a miss by Nathan for strike two no balls two strikes another step in Nathan take another step in toward the plate he's gonna probably come back with that same pitch boy draw baby right to the left fielder solid contact by Nathan but flies out to the left fielder to end the inning healing scores three runs in that inning and we go to the top of the fourth healan leads Lamar seven to nothing we will be right back.
SPEAKER_04Greenville Pharmacy is a fully staffed modern health pharmacy that specializes in providing personalized care and concern for every prescription customer this dedicated concern is substantially enhanced by our professional staff's more than 200 plus years of combined experience we are all about service sales and savings at our pharmacy you are far more than just another prescription number you are a customer friend.
SPEAKER_12Greenville Pharmacy is a proud supporter of Bishop Healan Athletics and Sioux Land Catholic radio and now back to your crusader sports on your Catholic radio station we are back uh Catholic radio with some Healing baseball healan leads Lamars 7-0 going to the top of the fourth Lamars will have the top of the order up they'll have McKinnis Clary and Tolson I think they're gonna keep Clary in pitching Mike yeah or do you did they have any I didn't see anybody warming up for them.
SPEAKER_11Yeah and it one thing about being here is it's it's hard to tell who's warming up because of the screen or netting or whatever down there it's so thick it's hard to tell who's out there and and uh or if there's even anyone out there we have brand I don't know if anybody uh if you've seen them yet Mike but our new uh bullpen out behind uh left field and right field are just absolutely gorgeous they just put those in here over the winter and if you're a pitcher a relief pitcher it's just a it's just a beautiful setup out there well if we can convince them to let us do a game from the bleachers out there we can look down on that bullpen I doubt that's gonna happen.
SPEAKER_12All we got to do is run extension cords we can do it. Now that we know how to hook everything up we got it the right way and the battery's not going dead. Well you did uh McKinnon steps in uh to face Gaswin he struck out the first time uh Nathan's been perfect facing the minimum nine up and nine down outside with that first pitch ball one you know that's the only worry you have uh that was a long that was a long half inning and you know your pitcher you know that arm can get a little tight if you don't keep any you know keep some clothing on it or what have you wind up and here's the pitch that pitch there for strike one there again that's just a great job by the catcher framing that ball because it probably was a little bit outside but that pitch lined out to JJ Hope at second base or third or shortstop I'm sorry for the easy out one out brings up the pitcher Clary of course he wants to get step in and do a little bit of damage. We've done damage to him so he wants to exact some revenge first pitch a little inside for ball one yeah I think Nathan doesn't like him on the plate so tight and he came in on him that was a that was a let you know I'm here pitch and come back and Gavin I mean like we said he's not that big but he's he's not afraid to get up and get in there. Nope if you want to come at me come at me he's saying he's not backing down grounds that ball to hope it's short. He's got some wheels over to first play a favor with the play six to three put out for out number two.
SPEAKER_11This was a so this was the the kind of the the move that I was really interested in Mike was seeing JJ going from second base to shortstop you know he's a he his speed obviously is a shortstop and his glove is obviously very good and and it was the arm strength and right there he just showed I mean just a beautiful play.
SPEAKER_12Yeah he's uh he's done a great job Tolson steps in that first pitch uh bounced in the dirt got passed got away from Erickson no one's on base so he didn't uh didn't really have to put a whole lot of effort into stopping it but it's one ball no strikes here's the pitch that's in there for strike one one ball one strike Nathan's really good job Nathan's just coming right after him he's coming right after him he's painting that corner and if you beat me you beat me and and I like that attitude yeah he's got five strikeouts and three of them have been looking that's in there for strike two one ball two strikes we are we are definitely very uh we we got very two very gifted pitchers number one and two yeah they uh according to Iowa baseball that ball grounded to Beck at second nice pitch over the favor at first according to Iowa baseball the favor number two and three returning in in the state of Iowa three up three down again for Lamars we go to the bottom of the fourth healing leads seven to nothing we will be right back Heinman Family Dentistry produces great smiles that win every time and our clinic is here to help Josh is a proud graduate and supporter of Bishop Healan and Dr.
SPEAKER_04Heyman and his team offer everything from cleanings and fillings to crowns and implants all at their convenient morningside location. Trust Heineman Family Dentistry for care that keeps your smile in the game. Go Crusaders Hein Family Dentistry is a proud supporter of Siouxland Catholic Radio and Bishop Healan Athletics and now back to your Crusader sports on your Catholic radio station we are back for the bottom of the fourth inning here at Bishop Mueller Field Healan will send Aiden Lefaver Dylan Knapp and Chase Beck to the plate looks like we've got a new pitcher out there trying to see a number 10 number 10 that'll be Tolzin yep that's why they weren't warming anybody up Mike they just uh they they uh filled it with the position player yeah but it looks like Clary might be moving to shortstop I'm trying to if he'll look up here I'll get him to turn around and I can see what the number is but it looks like that's where he moved to yeah it looks to me that I think you're right.
SPEAKER_11Yep yep Clary moves to shortstop Tolson moves to pitcher beautiful play by Chase Beck to end that inning nice move over to his left you know some questions are definitely being answered tonight you know that move from Beck over to second base JJ to shortstop um we've seen uh some good movement out of the favor at first base he's saved a couple overthrows and and then of course the third baseman Shayner you know kind of an unknown on on what we'd see out of him and I think he's fielded everything clean tonight.
SPEAKER_12Yeah he's uh he's done a really good job he's had an impressive debut as a healing crusader and uh like you said a lot of those questions have been answered and if if you're the Healing coaching staff or uh even part of uh Healing fan base you've got to feel pretty good about what you've seen here tonight. Lamar's is not a bad ball club.
SPEAKER_11I tell you what I really like this McGuinness yeah especially even as as a catcher I know he's a nice nice Hayden lines that off the third baseman's glove is able to beat it out first pitch ripped down the third baseline there brings up Dylan Knapp I gotta give him a hit on that Mike I think that one that was a sharp hit down just on the tip of the third baseman's glove here's the pitch from Tolson swing and a miss by Knapp strike one healing's doing a really good job making contact and when they hit it they're hitting it hard he's gonna come on that outside corner again Dylan here we go Dylan might take a step in toward the plate because it looks like they're trying to go outside with him and they did that last at bat too yeah he's far enough off the plate they're gonna go outside on him there we go grounds that to third third base from Bobbles it trying to go to second can't make a play anywhere nope got runners at first and second really you know what he was trying to make the play before he had the ball Mike he had it was a decent enough hit to him where he could go to second try to get the double play and I just think he got a little excited.
SPEAKER_12Yeah he uh he had his mind made up before it started that brings Beck to the plate runners at first and second with no outside to do a lot of damage here this inning with the top of the order coming up after Beck. That pitch is high and inside for ball one one ball no strikes sometimes you you think it just kind of affects the way you play whenever you're down seven nothing and you're trying to make a play and you know he this is yeah they're in a tough position as a coach you want to get some positives out of this and it's it you know I mean in high school ball you never know.
SPEAKER_11I mean you can come back from seven nothing. The way Nathan's pitching right now uh I don't know how realistic that is but as a coach you want to get some positives and you want it's not about how you start at the game it's how you finish and you want your kids to keep competing.
SPEAKER_12Well we know the Cander family we know they're gonna compete till the end count to back is two balls one strike. Nobody competed harder than those Cander boys tolls and steps off the mound I think McGinnis is getting a little frustrated back here and you can tell he's a competitor he hates seeing this so Lefav at second nap at first no out two balls one strike here's a pitch that's a nice pitch pitch is in there for strike two two balls two strikes you know and this is an opportunity for Lamar's for some of these kids that you know that uh I'm sure Coach Cander's putting these kids in he's got to see who he's got to come off the you know and throw. Yep nice cut.
SPEAKER_11Swing and a miss everybody back for strike three that's first out for healing in the bottom of the fourth brings up JJ Hope who has a walk and a single order and a very close six three out uh in the first inning think he's gonna bunt again these guys they obviously don't know how fast he is I mean he's they're playing way behind third base I'd I'd be about five feet in front of the base I wouldn't give him that that pitch was in there swing and a miss by hope for strike one no balls one strike Tolson definitely doesn't uh speed things up when he's pitching no nice pitch that pitch in there for strike two right on the outside corner he did a good job very good job with that one no balls two strikes to hope runners at first and second with one outsen checks first base nobody's being held on really here's the pitch high and inside for ball one one ball two strikes you know the way McGuinness is throwing that ball back I want you know his arm has got to be sore.
SPEAKER_12Yeah first time out just yeah that's uh that's a tough first night yeah I just I can throw that many pitches and then come back and catch Tolden comes set comes to the plate pitch popped foul down the first baseline into the netting right into my truck window maybe no if the netting caught it John you're still safe the windshield's intact man there's a white pickup a white car and another white pickup so if I say a white vehicle got hit you just won't know if it's yours or not. Not until I get there. Yep JJ steps back in here's a pitch swing drives it back nice stop by the shortstop there. Man Clary made a great diving stop and was able to get how did he make that play that was he was able to get nap at second base that was a great play.
SPEAKER_11Tried to paint that pitcher that ball was hit straight over the middle right up over second base and Clary dove and caught it and backhanded it to second base to get nap just a beautiful play.
SPEAKER_12Yeah that's the that's the positives you're you were talking about earlier that Lamars is going to be looking for and wants to in this game with that was a really great play by Clary. Erickson steps in here's the pitch swing and a miss for strike one we've got runners at the corners got to imagine that JJ's going to be off and running here pretty quickly.
SPEAKER_11Tolson checks over see what kind of lead he's got Tolson comes to the plate hope goes gets a stolen base I thought maybe we would send him from third but now he's going on a straight steal I didn't didn't know if we'd run a double steal there or not but not sure not sure the speed of the favor but yeah you also got a 7 nothing lead you got to you got to think you know do I do I want to risk injuring somebody on something like that so you you know it's it's not a bad thing to play it safe there.
SPEAKER_12Erickson steps back in Tolson with the wind up here's a pitch oh that was a good ball two we might have got away with that go go go go go go ball got away going back to the pitcher no one was able to advance didn't mean to get a little excited there Mike but we know we know if JJ was on third he'd he'd have scored he'd have been going.
SPEAKER_11Right there boys and girls that's why you wait you can get out there you get that lead until that pitcher's got the ball in his glove.
SPEAKER_12Yep runners at second and third now with two outs here's the pitch low and outside for ball three three balls one strike chance to load the bases and Lefav's up next boy this is we talked about you that's not who you want coming up with bases loaded. This is a huge out I mean here's the pitch from Tolson yeah way to fight foul fouled off into the netting on the right side three balls two strikes this is a big pitch here for Tolson he's battled this is uh this is a good at bat for for Erickson yep he's done a good job uh making Tolson throw some pitches look at that gap up the middle Mike I mean second baseman's way over here we go with the pitch boom he drives that into the gap that's that's that's gonna score two yeah excellent job of hitting by Eric beautiful piece of hit and he talked between games that he needed to get the bat on the ball and he's done it this game gave a nice little gesture to the sky there the old lightning bolt makes a score nine to nothing number 21 to run yep Hendrix heating in again he's getting his fair share of time on the on the ball field tonight Lefaver steps in heaton at second base Tolson looks in the plate.
SPEAKER_11Yeah first gapper yeah he did a good job he turned on that and and uh put it in a great spot that ball was inside to Caleb for ball one's really calling a good game he's been really consistent Tolson looks in comes to the plate oh that was ball two that say that that would have been a hard one to take John you got a six foot six batter that might have been a strike you're the one that said he was calling a good game he really is he's been very consistent
SPEAKER_12Plate Lefavre puts it between first and second. You got to score him. Come on. Heaton's gonna score. Standing goes to second on the throw home.
SPEAKER_11That one for that's a huge run because especially if you're Coach Wesselman and you got your uh your number two pitcher uh Nathan throwing here. This goes into the fifth inning. We got ten runs, and Nathan can get through that fifth inning un unscathed. I mean, it's a short, it's a short game for him, and that's that's perfect. You get that you know limited pitches.
SPEAKER_12Got Moravi going into pinch run for Lefavre. This brings Schaener to the plate, guy who's been hitting the ball hard all night long. Yeah, and you know he's just itching.
SPEAKER_11He's itching to just pound one.
SPEAKER_12Getting some good swings. He and McKinnis are having a talk back there.
SPEAKER_11Well, they probably played against each other in a few different sports, I'm assuming. Matter of fact, all these guys, they probably a lot of them play either with each other or against each other in fall and spring ball.
SPEAKER_12Come set. Moravi got a pretty good lead out there at second base. Oh, that was self-preservation by the third baseman because ball overthrown to first base. Absolutely crushed. Absolutely crushed. Folks, that that was a hard-hit line drive that didn't leave the infield, but it knocked the third baseman over. That's how hard it was hit. Yeah. Young Mr. Shaner's got some power. I have a feeling some are going to be leaving the ballpark before the season's over. This kid gets, if he gets going, it's gonna be something else. Brings Carroll to the plate, runners at first and third with two outs. Yeah, that's healing leads ten to nothing.
SPEAKER_11That's literally what you call a frozen rope single, Mike.
SPEAKER_12Throw over to first. Shaner was able to get back. I have a better angle than the umpire out there, and I can tell you that he was not safe, but we'll take it. Carroll drives that one out to left field, left fielder right there to make the play. That's a great ending by the Crusaders. Great ending by the Crusaders. They score three more. We go to the top of the fifth. Healing leads Lamar's ten to nothing. We will be right back.

SPEAKER_12We head to the top of the fifth. Lamars will send Genery, Peters, and Reganitter to the plate to face Gaswent here in the fifth inning.
SPEAKER_11Candor's over there talking to the I think he's making a couple changes. Might be. Let's see. Numbers.
SPEAKER_12Well, six is is generic.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, so he's definitely staying in.
SPEAKER_12What we got as a batting order is a little bit different than what he's got up there. So he might have made some changes between the time he wrote the batting order down. Yeah. And then uh it got up here to us, which is fine. We'll adjust and adapt. He's just keeping us on our toes. First game out. He knows that I got a couple rookies up there. We'll see how smart they are. But uh Genery's gonna step in here to face Nathan. Nathan Gaswent in the top of the fifth inning. Crusaders lead this one 10 to nothing. I'd like to thank Greenville Pharmacy for supporting Catholic Radio, Falk Brothers, and Empirical as well. We appreciate all the support that uh all the underwriters give to Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_11I don't know what we're waiting for here. Coach Cander's over there with the yump going over something. And he must have a lot more changes than we know about the way he's well, or he's questioning something. I'm not sure what's going on here. Oh, he's going over to Coach Wesselman here.
SPEAKER_12He uh Oh, there's gonna be some changes in the batting orders are coming up. Yeah, we're ready to go. Okay. Genery steps in against Gaswent. First pitch. Swing and a miss, strike one. Nice cut by the young man. That's a better pitch. Looks like we'll have a pinch hitter for Reagan hitter here whenever it gets to him. No balls, one strike. Fouls that ball off down the third baseline.
SPEAKER_11Juniere likes to he likes to step toward the first base on his stride. So Peyton's doing a smart job. He's keeping that ball in the outside corner.
SPEAKER_12No balls, two strikes. Gas went here in the wind up. There's the pitch. Exactly where he went. Swing and a miss for strike three. Perfect pitch.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, number one.
SPEAKER_12That's six strikeouts for Nathan here tonight. Brings Peters to the plate. Peters grounded out third to first his first time up. Pitch outside for ball one.
SPEAKER_11Stay within yourself here, Nathan.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, he's he's working really fast here.
SPEAKER_11Yep.
SPEAKER_12First hit of the ballgame for Lamars. That didn't come from us, Mike. Peters drives that one back up the middle. No, that was that was good solid contact and a good hit. Yeah, that's a good hit.
SPEAKER_11That brings up Not only did this the first hit, that broke up a perfect game, and we didn't want to jinx him, so we we didn't say anything, but probably did when I said you're missing something special, but so uh we'll blame it on you.
SPEAKER_12His dad can punch me when we're done. Yeah. Brings up a pinch hitter, Jackson Majoris uh for the Bulldogs. Pinch hitting for Reagan itter. Nathan from the stretch. Here's the pitch. Low and outside, ball one. Let's finish tough here. Let's finish tough. Let's get the pitcher's best friend double play here.
SPEAKER_11Yeah. This kid looks anxious. I'd I'd jam him on the inside here. He went on that outside corner with that. Beautiful pitch.
SPEAKER_12Strike two? That makes a strike two.
SPEAKER_11One ball, two strikes. You know, I'm I'm having trouble with that. Our our strike that when when it says one up there, it looks like a four.
SPEAKER_12Yep. That was a half-hearted swing by Majoris there on that one. Nathan throws over to first. Runner able to get back in time. One ball, two strikes, Majoris.
SPEAKER_11You know, I don't I I don't mind him doing that, because you know what? That's his first opportunity to throw back. Yep.
SPEAKER_12Peters with a much smaller lead than he had before the throwover. There's strike three. Caught him looking. Beautiful. How many is that, Mike? That's seven strikeouts for Nathan. Four of them have been caught looking. Two outs here. Cooper pick at the plate. He grounded out second to first his first time up. First and only time up. Here's the pitch. Popped out of play. Foul. Strike one. No balls, one strike. Runner on first with two outs here in the top of the fifth inning. Halen leads Lamar's ten to nothing. Here's the pitch. Pop foul again. No balls, two strikes. I'm gonna take a call third strike here, John.
SPEAKER_11I I pause me. I mean, he's got a pitch to waste here, but I just come right back on the inside, right at his hands.
SPEAKER_12Oh. Outside gets away from Erickson. Yep. Peters will advance to second on that. So it's one ball, two strikes. Peters on second base.
SPEAKER_11I think Nathan just he just misjudged that a little bit. Yep. That's not it's not like him. Let that thing go by, but you know, it just that happens.
SPEAKER_12Yes when looking back at second base. Peter's not being held on at all, so see what Peyton's lining up here. And that strike three on the outside corner. Caught him looking.
SPEAKER_11What a gem. One hit a one-hit uh shutout for Nathan Gaswin. Five inning.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, one hit, five inning shutout for Nathan. Great job by the Healing Crusaders tonight, this first game. They uh somebody ordered broom service and they got it against Lamar's. Uh great job tonight, uh everyone. We will be back on Thursday at 3 45 with the pregame show. Games at 4 6 against Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson. Thanks everybody for linking, Mike. We'll see you on Thursday. Thank you, John. Great job. We don't do any postgame.
SPEAKER_11We're done.
