Thanks, and I will be joined by Briarcliffe Hall of Famer John Tritz this year. Uh we're excited to be working together to bring you Healam baseball this summer. John, it's your first time in the booth. How do you feel?
SPEAKER_02Feeling pretty good, Mike. I'm anxious to get this season started. Some high expectations, obviously, with the Crusaders. Um looking forward to uh watching this first game, get the jitters out. And uh glad to be up here.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it's uh it's a nicer environment than it would have been sitting up in Lamar's in 45 degree weather at 8:30. But we'll take it. Uh let's do a little recap of last season. Uh course Crusaders finished 30 and 11 last year. Uh lost a heartbreaker to Pella 3-2 in the state semifinals. Uh some accomplishments they had last year was Hunter Wahab set a school record for stolen bases. Uh of course they beat East three out of four times. That's always uh a good deal. And uh let's see, LeFaver is back this year. He led the team in hits uh with 50, uh RBIs with 34, and had a very impressive 0.71 ERA. I know John is a catcher, you know that's uh uh that's pretty good. Uh Nathan Gaswent led the team uh with wins with seven and uh had eighty strikeouts on the year and a 1.68 ERA. So the top two pitchers returning uh did a lot of great things last year, and and I think they're gonna be uh a good catalyst to get the season started off uh this year, John.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think I mean obviously one and two are extremely solid, and and you put the combination of uh you know Peyton back there, catching again, uh veteran catcher who who did just such a great job of commanding the plate. Uh it's just it's just something that you can't put in words the importance of that catcher, and we have a really good one in Peyton.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he's uh he's very impressive. He he saved a lot of runs last year, uh did a good job keeping the pitching staff uh within their uh frame of of doing well from on the mound and and not getting uh too amped up or excited and and out of their element. Uh so now let's get to this season. Uh got some some familiar faces in the lineup, uh but also a lot of new faces. Of course, uh Lefaver and Gas went returned to lead the pitching staff. Uh JJ Hope slides over to shortstop to replace Hunter Wahab. And Peyton Erickson, like we talked about, returns uh behind the plate. Uh some of the questions. I know John, you talked to Coach before the game, but uh who does he see that's gonna you know step up and and fill some of those holes?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I I had a chance to talk to Coach Welselman before the game, and and obviously the strength being in our pitching staff, especially one and two, but uh he's also really uh looking forward to our number three and our number four, which uh the assistant coach um Taylor said could probably be starters on any other roster. Also, uh we have some good good ones coming off of the uh uh out of the bullpen, uh Rodriguez being one of them. Um really, really uh confident and complimentary, he thinks of our offense. He said we'll be solid and we'll we'll probably see a lot of small ball, which excites me because I love small ball.
SPEAKER_06Yep, huggy gurrito ball.
SPEAKER_02I love that. Yes, absolutely. Uh Coach Wessman's also looking forward to these seniors becoming leaders, um taking over for the uh seniors that we had last year. And you know, he's also got a veteran coaching staff, and that's gonna that's gonna pay dividends, especially with these young kids, uh first baseman being an eighth grader, obviously uh a little concerned there, seeing how uh the nerves might get to him and and hopefully uh you know get that out of the way right away.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it's uh it's it's gonna be an exciting season. Um I'm looking forward to uh seeing what this senior class is gonna be able to build on from last year and and you know the younger kids uh get an opportunity to do some things. Uh Dylan Knapp's gonna take over in center field, so uh he's got some good speed. He ought to be able to cover a lot of ground out there. And uh Nathan Gaswent, when he's not on the mound, is is gonna be out in right field, and uh he's been working on his hitting in the offseason. I understand that uh it's it's much improved from uh what it was last year. So I think it'll help that uh he'll get to be an everyday player when he's not on the mound. Oh, I'm sure he's just got to be looking forward to that. Licking his chops, Mike. Yeah, it's gonna be uh uh it's gonna be fun. Let's uh let's send it back for a break and and then we'll be back with uh the starting lineups.

SPEAKER_07Hello, listeners. I am Father Travis Crotty, the chaplain of Bishop Healing Catholic High School. As we prepare for this athletic competition with the Crusaders, we want to take an opportunity to offer a pregame prayer, keeping in mind the safety and the enthusiasm of all sporting events for the safety of our own students and those of our opponents. Let us pray in the name of the Father, and of the Son, of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Thank you, listeners, and go, crusaders.
SPEAKER_12And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_06Welcome back, everybody. I am Mike Skaggs, joined by John Tritz. And uh we talked a lot about healing before the break. And I know John, you were down talking with the Lamars coach, and uh you and I both have a little bit of history with that family. We we both know their dad really well. Uh so uh let's learn a little bit about Lamar's.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I had a chance to talk to uh Coach Cander, uh Kendall Cander, um, and obviously he's the the son of uh somebody we know. I played against his dad, uh Todd, and and you worked with him and just a great uh a great baseball family, number one. Had a chance to talk to him about the strengths of the Lamars Bulldogs, and he said uh uh a few things. They're they're extremely quick, they have a lot of speed, um, they'll be aggressive at the plate, but they also show signs of patience, and he's excited to see that. Um he also says he's got some really consistent pitchers, and that will be the strengths. What they're a little concerned about and kind of anxious to see in this first double header is is how their youth is going to step up and how they're gonna be able to develop that youth uh as the season goes on. So um he's looking forward to this. He's excited uh that you know to get right into this and to see LeFavor in that first game. I mean, that's just uh his kids are fired up and uh see what they can do against him.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that's uh having to face these two pitchers, your your first game out, that's uh that's a pretty tall task, and I know Lamar's their their season record last year was three and thirty. Uh we know they'll be much improved this year. They're uh they're young, but uh those kids that were here last year obviously uh have a year experience and and uh it's it's gonna be fun. I I cannot wait to uh get everything started. Uh we'll go ahead and do the starting lineups here. Uh we'll start with Lamar's uh leading off in pitching will be Brett McKinnis. Uh batting second at shortstop will be Gavin Clary. Batting third in center field will be Isaiah Tolson. Batting fourth and playing left field is Jacob Genery. Batting fifth, playing second base will be Drake Peters. Batting sixth and playing first base is Ben Reganitter, batting seventh and playing third base will be Cooper Pick. Batting eighth and playing catcher will be Dominic McDougal. And batting ninth and playing right field will be Jackson Albrecht for the Crusaders leading off number five, JJ Hope. Batting second, playing catcher, Peyton Erickson, batting third, and the DH and pitching, Caleb LeFavre batting fourth, playing third base, Brody Shaner, batting fifth, and playing left field, Tommy Carroll, batting sixth and playing right field as Nathan Gaswent. Batting seventh, playing first base, Aiden Lefaver. Batting eighth, playing center field, Dylan Knapp. And batting ninth will be numbered 13 and playing second base, Chase Beck. And we are ready to play some baseball.
SPEAKER_02So our umpires tonight, Mike. Uh, behind the plate is uh Peyton Schroeder, and on the bases is Blake Schmitz.
SPEAKER_06That first pitch from Caleb is outside. A little low. A little low on that one. A little bit low. Two balls, no strikes account.
SPEAKER_02Probably a little bit of nerves and anxiety from both sides here, so that was pretty that was a pretty curveball in there for a strike, Mike.
SPEAKER_06That ball had a lot of movement on it. That uh that brings a count to two balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_02What's that say about Le Favre? He comes back on an O on two-and-o with a curveball.
SPEAKER_06He has a lot of confidence in his ability to get the ball across the plate.
SPEAKER_02So I got a three-and-one count here.
SPEAKER_06That ball must have been a little low. That was ball four. So that puts the first runner on. Brings out a shortstop to Gavin Clary. The ball is lying foul into the net. Great scoop. Great scoop. Yeah, Ericsson doing what Ericsson does best. That ball was low. Uh, he was able to stop it and keep it from getting to the backstop. One ball, one strike. I think he might have been able to hear the pop of the glove on that one. That was uh that had some heat on it.
SPEAKER_02And like Coe's challenging him, coming in on him.
SPEAKER_06Ball lineback up the middle. Puts runners uh first and second with no outs. Brings to the plate Isaiah Tolson.
SPEAKER_02Well, Mike, this is uh first inning, and uh guy in first and second, no outs. We got our first uh kind of our first situation here, so let's see how Le Favre can handle this.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it'll be interesting to see if Lamar is into a small ball as well and try to bunt these guys over or gonna say that ball hit him.
SPEAKER_02I don't know about that one.
SPEAKER_06Well he's giving that to him, but I thought that hit the bat, Mike. It sure sounded like it hit the bat. Uh let's go ahead and take a quick uh legal ID break.
SPEAKER_09You're listening to FM 88.1, KFHC, Ponka Sioux City, and KOIA, Storm Lake, Sioux Land Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_12And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_06With uh bases loaded and no out.
SPEAKER_02I just missed on the outside there.
SPEAKER_06One ball, no strikes that curveball is really working for him so far.
SPEAKER_02That's his go-to pitch right now.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it's been very effective. He's not afraid to throw it, doesn't matter what the count is. Oh, sweet. Sweet.
SPEAKER_02That was in there for strike two. It's one ball, two strikes. Curve that baby right around the inside corner, Mike. That's just a beautiful pitch.
SPEAKER_06He swung and missed at that. That's the first out. Base is still loaded, that brings up Drake Peters. Uh good job coming back there after everything that that the inning has brought so far.
SPEAKER_02That last curveball made him look a little silly.
SPEAKER_06Yep. That first pitch was in a little low. Ball one That one was just a bit high. Two balls, no strikes. I kept telling Tony last year we need to do a game from the bleachers, so at some point we gotta figure out how to do that, Johnny.
SPEAKER_02I was gonna say that that that looked like it just under his underarm there. It looked like it was in the strike zone. That one's a little high.
SPEAKER_06Three balls, no strikes on the batter. It'll be interesting to see what he comes back with here. Will it be uh another one of the curve balls that he's uh done so well with? Or that was ball four. Walk to run in. Base is still loaded.
SPEAKER_02He's having a little trouble getting that fastball in. Um in the early batters he was uh he was a little high and and his release point was a little up. Um last batter here, he was the umps got him a little bit low, but he can't be far off the zone.
SPEAKER_06That brings up uh Ben Reganetter. Just on the outside corner for a strike, no balls one strike. Inside off the plate, that brings count to one and one.
SPEAKER_02You know, I don't mind that pitch because this guy's coming up, he's he's sitting right up there on the line. You know, and that's his plate. Yeah. There we go.
SPEAKER_06There's that curveball. All the runners are leading off, they're not taking too big of a lead at this point. LaFaver not pitching from the stretch with the bases loaded. That is swing and a miss for strike three. Two outs.
SPEAKER_05Brings up Cooper Pick for ball one.
SPEAKER_02Nice. That was nice. That curve ball is really, really, really working for him tonight. You know, we're right behind the plate. That ball came across that outside corner as a strike. I know the Lamar's fans were thinking that was a little bit outside by where he caught it, but there's no question that was a strike.
SPEAKER_06That's in there for strike two. Batter swung and the bat flew out of his hand. He fooled him so badly. Well, at least it stayed in the in the field. Yep. One ball, two strikes. Yeah, with all the netting down here. The only person, the only ones that could have hit was gone into the heel and dugout at the at that uh at that rate. So one ball, two strikes. Here's the pitch. Oh, you gotta call that. Well, folks, that was a backwards K.
SPEAKER_05He got him looking at one run on one hit.
SPEAKER_02You know, Mike, it took him a little bit to get going, but uh once he did, uh he got command of that fastball, the last two batters. Uh and obviously his curveball was working from the get-go. Um I really like how he he battled out of that and got out. That could have been a could have been a big inning for Lamar's.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he did a good job. Like uh, like we talked about. He's he's not afraid to throw that curveball, and whenever that uh fastball starts hitting for him, it's it's gonna be great. Let's go ahead and take a quick break, and we'll be back for the bottom of the first inning.

Mary Queen of Peace, pray for us.
SPEAKER_12And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_06Welcome back to Bishop Mueller Field. Uh going to the head and bottom of the first inning here, and he will be coming to bat. Uh while we've got a little bit of a break, let's uh give a big thank you to some of our underwriters for Catholic Radio, uh, the Bargain Center, Barclay Asphalt, Bob Rose Point After, and North End Zone, C Notes, Dr. Ryan Meese, and Drilling Morningside Pharmacy. John, what are you looking for here in the bottom of the first inning from uh the Healing Batters?
SPEAKER_02I'm really anxious to see uh how our top lineup uh fares the you know their first at bats. You obviously got to get the nerves out of the way, but we have some serious we got some serious speed, I think, in this uh in these top five hitters, especially with JJ Hope leading off.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I think uh I think if JJ can get on, he'll uh he'll be this year's Hunter Wahab in terms of uh running the bases. I know I at the scrimmage on Saturday he went from first to third on an overthrow to first base, so he's got he definitely has the speed.
SPEAKER_02I would imagine that the Hope family is in their usual spot out there. Graham's probably up there uh looking on, she doesn't miss too many games. Um JJ Hope would have just a tremendous athlete in the year he's having, both in football, hockey, and and and hopefully in baseball. I mean, he's just a tremendous all around athlete.
SPEAKER_06Absolutely. Hope steps into the box. We got uh Lamars has McGinnis on the on the mound, and and here we go with that first pitch. A little high for ball one. Lamar's pitcher kind of throwing from a half stretch and a half full-on motion here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's kind of a little awkward.
SPEAKER_06A slow up curve. Swing and a miss there. One ball, one strike. Looks like they're playing just about uh medium depth out in the outfield. Oh, the umpire started to raise that hand for a strike, but he must have remembered that that wasn't a strike when Healing was batting. So it's two balls, one strike. Nice cut. That was a good swing. That ball was fouled back. Uh, thank goodness for the net, because it was coming right at you and I, John. Yep. And being a being a catcher, you would have been the one that had to reach out and grab it.
SPEAKER_02Well, I don't know if my reflexes are quite like they used to be, Mike.
SPEAKER_06Go, go, go. He just kind of stuck his bat out and made contact. Uh slow roller between pitcher and first base. Pitcher picks it up, gets it over to first base for the first out. Brings to the plate Peyton Erickson. Uh Peyton last year in the during the playoff run uh really started to find his groove in the batter's box, had some key hits at key moments, and uh was really instrumental in in healing, advancing as far as they did. First pitch to Peyton.
SPEAKER_02Boy, that's outside.
SPEAKER_06That one looked like it was pretty far outside, but the umpire called it a strike, so we've got no balls, one strike to Peyton.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Peyton didn't like that. And and I don't blame him. That was that was a good six inches outside.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, catcher catchers, it's always interesting for them when they're up to bat because they they want to get the same things that uh the other team got.
SPEAKER_02That's right. That's right. Peyton, I'm sure, is when he gets the gear back on behind the plate, he'll say that to the umpire as well. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Uh that ball got uh was low, got past the catcher. It's one ball, one strike. Yeah, you see that a lot in in pro and college. The catcher looks back at when they're batting and says, Can I have that uh when I'm up? That ball was practically the same place as pitch number one, and it was called a ball. So now we've got two balls, one strike to Peyton. So uh he's in a good position here. We'll see what this pitcher, we'll see what McKinnis does to come back and and try to even this count. That one was high and outside, brings count to three and one. So this catcher does a pretty good job framing the ball for Lamar's. He does, he does a really good job.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_06Well, we know what LeFaver would throw here. Yeah, it'd be that curve ball. Oh, nice cut. Good swing there by Erickson. Fouled back at the net again. So now we've got three balls, two strikes. He's throwing him nothing but fastballs.
SPEAKER_02So um not I'm wondering if he'll try to sneak that curve ball in, he can waste the pitch here.
SPEAKER_06Got LaFavor on deck, so uh it'd be good to get somebody on base here and give him a chance to move them around. Swing and a miss there by Peyton.
SPEAKER_05Two outs.
SPEAKER_02It's one of those ones that's just kind of tough to lay off. A little bit high, but it it's one of those ones, Mike, that you know it just looks so juicy coming across, but but just a little up.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that like you said, that's a tough one to lay off of. You you see even the the guys in the big league swinging at those. First pitch to Caleb on the outside corner, strike one.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he kind of swung that curveball right around the outside corner.
SPEAKER_06Same pitch. Uh that's the exact same pitch. No balls, two strikes to Caleb. He's always been a good hitter with two strikes, so see if he can come through this time. That pitch was way outside. Caleb's too good of a hitter to to chase something like that. That pitcher just wasted a pitch right there. Line down the third baseline foul. Just foul. Just foul. Count stays one ball, two strikes. Good job uh making contact there by Caleb and keeping this at bat alive. Pitcher in his wind up. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. So no runs, no hits, no errors for healing. We'll go to the bottom, top of the second. Scores one to nothing Lamar's. We'll send it back to the studio.
SPEAKER_10Hi, Christy and Dave here from Sneakies. Having friends over to watch the big game, you're gonna need some serious munchies. Just call Sneaky's Carryout at 2520522 to make it a great tailgate with delicious chicken, ribs, hot wings, fresh-made salads, and homemade dressings.
SPEAKER_01Sneakies is perfect. Give the fans our carryout number again.
SPEAKER_10252-0522. Call 15 minutes ahead, and Sneaky's carryout will have your game day grub ready to go when you arrive.
SPEAKER_01Friends, football and great food from Sneaky's for the win.
SPEAKER_12And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_06Welcome back everybody to Bishop Mueller Field. Uh heading to the top of the second inning. Lamar's leads healing one to nothing. Uh could have been a lot worse in the in the top of the first inning for Healen, but Caleb was able to work out of a jam and and keep it at one to nothing. And uh brings up McDougal, Albrecht, and then back to the top of the batting order for McKinnon's.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it'll be nice to see what uh Caleb does this second, and he got the got those jitters out of the way. Um he looked a lot stronger uh the last two batters.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he was uh really solid those last two batters, and uh he just he's got the defense behind him. If if they put it in play, they're gonna they're gonna get him out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Shout out to my sister who's listening to us out in Cincinnati, Mary Claire Clark. Wow. A class of 1968 from the Crusaders. That's the first shout out of the year. So there we go.
SPEAKER_05She just sent me a text.
SPEAKER_06First pitch here. Just inside. Ball one, one ball, no strikes. Trying to paint that inside corner on that one. Sweet. Good pitch there. Swing and a miss by uh McDougal. One ball, one strike. From the full wind up. High and outside on that one. Two balls, one strike. Uh Helens playing about, you know, natural depth in the outfield.
SPEAKER_03Beautiful pitch. Beautiful pitch.
SPEAKER_06One ball, two strikes, swing and a miss there by McDougal. See if Caleb comes back here. I'm I'm guessing he's coming with that curveball. Or fastball, swing, swing and a miss. Oh, geez. Ball got away from the catcher. Runner heading down to first. The ball got it past the first baseman out into right field. So we've got a K, but we've got a runner at first base.
unknownWhat number is that going to be in? Can you guys tell?
SPEAKER_06That brings to the plate Jackson Albright. Runner on first, no outs.
SPEAKER_02Peyton did everything right on that. He stepped out and went to throw it first. Ball just got away from him when he threw it. And uh and you know, they made the first baseman dive a little bit.
SPEAKER_06Yep, that's that that's that youth you you mentioned in the pregame. Batter squares to bunt, bunts it down third baseline. Picked up by Shaner, good throw to first. Get him getting a good thing. Runner on first is heading to third. And he was out. I have no idea what he was thinking there, but five three put up.
SPEAKER_05And then brought the item and he won't.
SPEAKER_02We had two guys over there at third base to make that catch.
SPEAKER_06Um we had uh Hope and Chane are both over there ready to make that uh ready to make that out, but I have no idea what that Lamar's runner was thinking because he was he never slowed down going around second base, folks. He just kept on running.
SPEAKER_02You know, Todd said they were gonna be uh, or not Todd, excuse me, his son, Kendall, said they were gonna be aggressive on the base paths, and I thought maybe that was a little too aggressive.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. That brings up McKinnis. That first pitch was in there for a strike. Uh swing and a miss there, foul tip, it looks like. Caught Erickson. That's uh John, you know all about that being a catcher.
SPEAKER_02You've been hitting every part of the body, Mike. Every part. It's never fun. Uh yeah, it's uh he's a tough kid, though. I mean, he shook that right off.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he's you can tell he's not happy about it, and the umpire was kind enough to to walk out toward Caleb and and uh throw a new ball to him so Peyton could kind of overcome the uh pain of getting hit. That ball's outside, one ball, two strikes. Much better inning, obviously, for the Crusaders. Uh helped out with that base running error by Lamars.
SPEAKER_02That's a beautiful pitch. You know, Mike, when Caleb, when he's following through, uh uh he's definitely he's got great command of his pitch. A couple times that ball's taken off on him. I I think he's releasing it a little bit high, but he's correct in that, and you can tell he corrected that in that last pitch.
SPEAKER_06Yes, he did. Let's take a quick break and we'll be back uh with more Crusader baseball.

SPEAKER_12And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_06All right, everybody. Welcome back to Bishop Mueller Field. Uh Mike Skaggs and John Tritz here uh calling the action. And John, it's May 19th, and people shouldn't have to be in coats and uh heavy jackets while they're watching baseball. But the sun pops out, the sun goes back behind the clouds. So now it's out, and McGuinness is back out on the mound. And we have Shayner, Carroll, and Gaswent coming to the plate this inning.
SPEAKER_02You know, Mike, you and I are are both uh uh we we go way back in in soccer with our daughters, and I got a grandson playing soccer up at Healing right now. It has been a cold spring. This has been the coldest spring that I can remember as far as watching sports, and it's only fitting to start the baseball season off with a cold day.
SPEAKER_06You're right, and it uh it's crazy. I mean, you'll have days, four or five days of 85, then all of a sudden it's 40. Yep. But the sun's starting to peak out, so that would be good for us. Shayner steps in, first pitch, fouled off uh to the right side for strike one. Shamer transfer from Lawton. Uh so excited to see what uh what he's gonna bring to the program this year. Wind up, there's the pitch, way outside, one ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, all the coaches were extremely excited about him, and they're anxious to see what he can do. All all three of them the ones that I talked to.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I didn't get the chance to see him in the scrimmage on Saturday, but uh I know that uh like you said, people are talking about him. Uh that pitch there, swing and a miss, so it's one ball, two strikes. Wind up, here's a pitch. Outside. I think the catcher was hoping for a little bit of help there from the umpire, but it was too far outside. Two balls, two strikes on the batter.
SPEAKER_02He throws that slow curve, Mike. I mean, you either gotta get back and wait to the break or jump up in the front of the plate.
SPEAKER_06That pitch was high for ball three, full count on Shaner, uh, Carroll on deck, and gas went in the hole. I'm gonna ask you here in a bit what how you feel about all this shift that goes on in baseball now. Foul ball there. How do you feel about the these teams on defense shifting in college? You get sometimes they take the third baseman, put them over where the second baseman is, and move the shortstop to the second base side of the bag and leave the whole left side of the infield open.
SPEAKER_02You know, I don't mind the shifting uh as long as it doesn't get completely out of control. I know that like in the major leagues they're they've they put a kibosh to it a little bit where they you're you have to have somebody um on the shortstop can't move over all the way to where the second baseman is for for example. Um I don't mind them shifting as long as you know they're not completely all over on one side of the field or not.
SPEAKER_06Shayner was caught looking on that uh last pitch, so that was a strikeout. That brings the plate to Tommy Carroll. Yeah, I'm I'm not 100% sold on the shift. I sometimes I think it does more harm than good when you're on on defense. Second pitch in there for a strike, good swing by Carroll, made a good cut at the ball there.
SPEAKER_02Promising solid freshman, and I've gotten to watch Tommy in both football and basketball this year. He played with my grandson, so extremely good athlete.
SPEAKER_06There you go, nice cut. That ball fouled off to the right side. Uh it's that time of year for the houses along the street to collect high school baseballs. Pitcher in the wind up. Here comes a pitch. Nice. Oh, lined it right to the shortstop. Great play by the shortstop there.
SPEAKER_02Tommy waited on that curveball beautifully and got a nice swing on it. Didn't didn't get his full extension, but that shortstop made just a wonderful play.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he made an excellent play there. Moved just a little to his left, and when it was off the bat, I thought it was going to get through.
SPEAKER_02And that's this is kind of what I'm talking about. This kid's kind of throwing this slow curve ball, and and there's a couple different couple different uh theories about hitting that. I mean, you either get up in the plate and and and try to, you know, try to hit that thing before it starts to break, or just step back in the back side of the plate, take it the right field, uh wait till that break is coming down.
SPEAKER_06Gas went up to the up to bat. Uh one ball, one strike to Nathan. I'm I'm excited to see him hit this year. He didn't get to do a lot of it last year, and I know that uh he's excited. I've talked to his dad, talked to him, and he's really looking forward to being able to swing the bat this year. Yeah, just a big strong kid. Yeah, he is. Uh first scrimmage, uh, he had a double and a triple, so uh the possibilities and the and the opportunities are there for for him. He's he's just gotta uh be patient. Yeah, he didn't go on that one. Two balls, two strikes. Of course the Lamar's fans thought that was a strike.
SPEAKER_02And you gotta check that. You gotta check that as a catcher.
SPEAKER_06Pitcher's into his windup. Here comes the pitch. That ball is on the outside corner, caught looking for strike three.
SPEAKER_02Thought that might have been a little bit up, a little bit up and out. But this catcher's doing a great job framing that.
SPEAKER_06Three up, three down for healing. Uh when we come back, we'll be going to the top of the third. Uh Lamar's coming to bat.

SPEAKER_12And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_06Welcome back to Bishop Mueller Field, Mike Skaggs and John Tritz calling the action. Uh while we've got a couple minutes, let's uh give a shout out to some of our underwriters. Uh sneaky's chicken. Uh you can never go wrong with the buffet at Sneaky's Chicken. It's uh it's affordable and it's very good. Everybody knows about sneaky's. We've got J and J coins and collectibles, Jimmy John's, uh, and new this year for baseball. We've got Council Oak Supply Company. Getting me hungry, Mike. I know every last year Tony would always bring up Sneaky's Chicken. It was like on days that I didn't have a chance to eat. Um for Lamar's here in the top of the third, it'll bring it'll be Clary, Tolson, and Genery. Clary has the only hit of the game so far for Lamars. Lafaver back out there for third inning. Throwing from the full wind up. That looked like a breaking ball outside. Ball one.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, threw a nice curveball in the outside corner. Just just missed.
SPEAKER_06Seems like everybody's fouling off to the right side today. So one ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_02Hopefully, I parked my truck a little far back.
SPEAKER_06I noticed you parked down there. I was gonna tell you, you're awfully brave. Oh my, that that was a good curve ball there. Ball hit back up the middle. JJ Hope moves to his left, makes a great play.
SPEAKER_02Beautiful play by JJ. Beautiful. Covered that gap really well. Came up throwing.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, and that uh right back up the middle is where Clary uh put the ball the last time he was up. Um one out brings up Tolson. He was hit by a pitch last time, and there's uh still doubt in the press box that he was actually hit. That ball inside for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Uh ball on the outside corner, good strong fastball there by Caleb. One ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_02One thing I like about what Caleb's doing, he's really trying to paint the corners, and you know, he's not giving him anything down the middle. Um he's got command of his fastball now, it looks like, and and he's kind of putting it where he wants.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, last pitch was a ball, two balls, one strike. Beautiful. That one's right down the middle, right down Broadway. Two balls, two strikes. Uh Genery is on deck. See if Caleb can come back here and get a K. That ball fouled back. Missed us this time. Count remains two and two. Seemed like everybody's just a little bit late on Caleb. Oh, yeah. He fooled him with that one. That was a beautiful curveball for strike three.
unknownThat will bring up.
SPEAKER_02He was definitely looking for a fastball there. He had no clue on that one.
SPEAKER_06Yes, he was. He leaned back and then realized, oh, that's going across the plate. I probably should have swung. Genery up, first pitch, high. Erickson does what he always does, made a great play, and uh didn't have to turn around and chase it. So one ball, no strikes. There's that curveball again, a little bit low.
SPEAKER_02Boy, I tell you what.
SPEAKER_06It's i it th this strike zone is is pretty varied so right now. That ball was out low and outside, three balls, one strike, but a couple times that's been a strike, John.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he's not giving him the low strike right now. Uh uh those both both those last two pitches are right at the knee. And then there that one there is at the belt, and he called that a strike. So nice curve ball by Caleb, but as a pitcher, you want that low strike.
SPEAKER_06Swing and a miss there. Uh full count. Yeah, Caleb, he you can tell he's got confidence because it was 3-0 count and he came back with two curve balls. Here's the pitch. Good pitch. Ball weakly fouled off into Lamar's dugout.
SPEAKER_02Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. You know the thing about it, Mike, is if you have to start leaving that ball up in the up up in the strike zone, you're just setting yourself up for a bomb. You know.
SPEAKER_06Yep. That was three up, three down for Lamars in that. Uh when we return, we'll go to the bottom of the third, and up for Helam will be Aiden LeFaver, Dylan Knapp, and Chase Beck.

SPEAKER_12And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_02Can you start leaving that ball up against good yeah?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, we were during the break we were talking about uh the umpire's not given that uh low strike, and it's it is not out of the strike zone, it's just down lower than than what he feels should be a strike. We've got uh Lamars has McKinnon's back out there on the mound. Yeah. Uh this will be our first chance. See Aiden Lefaver, the eighth grader, uh at the plate.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean, as a pitcher, I was just going back uh tracking a little bit. You want that low strike, Mike. I mean, especially at the knees. If Dump doesn't start, if he's if he's not giving you that and you gotta and you gotta go high up around the belt, you're just setting yourself up for you get a good hitter there, they'll launch that thing.
SPEAKER_06Here's the first pitch to LaFaver. That looked like one of those low strikes we were just talking about, John. But that thing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Maybe Caleb's just thrown too hard for this guy. Could be.
SPEAKER_06Fouled off toward the heel and dugout. Uh no balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_02That was a good cut. Nice, nice strong cut by the young, young eighth grader.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I'm uh I'm confident that he's he swung a few bats uh in the offseason and done a lot of travel balls. So uh oh. Fold him a little bit with the curveball there. Good swing by Lefavre, but results in a strikeout. One down brings uh Dylan Knapp. I want to see Dylan get on because I want to see that speed that uh he kept showing us last year.
SPEAKER_02Another one of these all-around athletes, Mike, been talking about uh Dylan Knapp, just an outstanding football season, one of the hardest hitters uh that we had this year. See if that uh transfers over to the baseball field.
SPEAKER_06Uh I know when talking to him uh at a graduation party the other day, he's excited to be playing center field. Yeah. That first pitch was outside, just one ball, no strikes. He he just got some serious speed. Yeah, he'll be one of those. If he puts a bunt down, he's he's gonna beat it out nine out of ten times. That pitch was outside, brings count to two and oh. He'll be one that'll keep the pitcher. He'll he'll distract the pitchers whenever he's on base, that's for sure. That ball was low and outside, three balls, no strikes. And speaking of Hunter Wahab, we'll give a shout out to Russ. Uh he his dad, he's sending us texts with advice and ways we can do this better. So uh for those of you who don't know, John and I are new to this, so we're gonna grow with the team. There's the pitch. That ball was low, ball four.
SPEAKER_02Yes, the same pitch he just called a strike on in the last batter. So you know, I the umpires are just like the ball players, Mike. You know, this is their probably their first game out for the high school season, and and you know, I've been in their shoes, so I know sometimes it takes a little while to get that strike zone. So, you know, as as much as I want that to be called, it might take him a little while to find his zone as well.
SPEAKER_06That's true. Brings up Chase Beck. Dylan's got a pretty decent lead out there at first base. That ball gets away from the catcher, and Dylan is off to second base.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, well that too.
SPEAKER_06And I did promise Dylan I'll do everything I can not to call him Dilly Dilly every time he comes up this year. Well, I'll let you I'll let you do that, and I'll let you hear it from him. I'll call him Dylan. He's a quiet kid. He'll never say anything to me. I hear it from others, I hear it from people that I'm related to that know him, that tell me he really doesn't like it. But I saw him the other day and told him I wouldn't do it, and his dad said, Oh, I I kind of like it. I think it's funny. And he just kind of rolled his eyes and shook his head. So uh I'll try to go 50-50. Uh I'll let I'll let his mom hunt you down, not me. Uh she's uh she's gonna be doing the cooking down there, so I've already asked, told her, be sure and hold me a hamburger. I didn't get a chance to eat lunch today. So uh action back. Uh Lamaris went out and had a conversation with the pitcher, and now the pitcher wants to talk to the catcher. There must be some confusion about the signals. So either that or he's saying if Dylan Knapp goes too far off base, you got to give me some signal that I can turn around and try to pick him off. Which are gonna have to be pretty quick, because uh much like Hunter, if I I think Dylan could turn the lights off and be in bed before it got dark. Boy, look at that gap.
SPEAKER_02Look at that gap, Mike, between left, between third and short right now.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah, there's a big gap. Shortstop slid over to help cover the bag. Oh good cut there by Beck. One ball, one strike. He was looking to go there. So Lamar's defense, a little bit worried about Dylan out there. That shortstop is now slides back over, but it's still a pretty good hole out there.
SPEAKER_02Here's the wind up in the pitch. You know, they're both playing the middle. I mean, I get that that you know you're trying to deke that that sec the the runner off the second between the second baseman and the shortstop, but boy, they're leaving a huge gap between third and short and second and first.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, there's there's two good opportunities. Uh obviously, if he can go to the right side of the infield, uh that's gonna be a big plus. But uh that was a curveball that missed, three balls, one strike. But yeah, if he could if he can put it in play between uh short and third or first and second, uh Dylan's gonna be running for a while. But we knew when Dylan got on, he was he was gonna take a little bit of focus away from the pitcher.
SPEAKER_02So boy, he's really got a nice lead. He's got a nice lead. Yeah. That ball was on the outside corner for strike two. That's a pretty pitch. And uh right at the knees. That's when we were talking about that uh that's the strike we want.
SPEAKER_06Maybe we'll maybe we'll get it one time before the night's over. I hope so. Pitcher comes set. Here he is with the pitch. Swing and a miss for strike three. Good cut there. Brings up JJ Hope.
unknownJJ Hope.
SPEAKER_06Two outs, nap on second. Uh here's an opportunity with uh Dylan in scoring position to uh get an RBI and tie this game if possible.
SPEAKER_02He threw Dylan three uh or excuse me, he threw JJ three uh curve balls at his last bat. So if I'm JJ, I'm sitting back looking for that. First pitch. And that's what it was, and that's outside. Uh even though he called that a strike, that was way outside.
SPEAKER_06That ball was in the uh left-handed batter's batter box. Yes, it was. Pitcher comes set. There's the pitch. Outside, one ball, one strike. Look where this third baseman's playing, Mike.
SPEAKER_02I tell you what. I mean, I wouldn't I wouldn't leave the pass JJ to lay it down third base.
SPEAKER_06I with his speed too, yeah. He could definitely beat it out. That third baseman's playing behind the bag.
SPEAKER_02Oh, good six, seven, seven feet at least.
SPEAKER_06Uh, to keep Dylan from getting down to third. Two balls, one strike. Dylan keeps dancing a little farther and farther off second base out there. He's definitely got the second baseman nervous. He's second baseman's almost standing on top of the bag right now. Pitcher comes set. Pitches outside, three balls, one strike. Good night, JJ.
SPEAKER_02Here we go. You know, I have a feeling he's gonna come with the curveball here, Mike. That's his go-to pitch. He's got he's got way better control with his curveball. And you know, if our guys just have some discipline, sit in here.
SPEAKER_06Outside for ball four. There you go. Got some speed on. Yeah, we definitely have some speed on. We got knapp at second, hope on first, and that brings Peyton Erickson to the plate. It's time for Peyton to uh reproduce that playoff magic that he had last year.
SPEAKER_02He came at uh Peyton last time with four straight fastballs. So what would you be looking for here? Would you be looking for the first one? If I was Peyton, I'm no, I'll tell you what. I think he's gonna come with fast. If I was Peyton, I'd look for this first pitch fastball.
SPEAKER_06First pitch outside for ball one. Through McCurve. See, that's why you're here, John. You can see that stuff.
SPEAKER_02Well he's having you know, I I think you're right. Dylan's really I think he is really bothering him out there.
SPEAKER_06Here's the pitch. That's low for ball two. That pitcher wanted that. Yeah, he wanted it. He's uh let's let's hope we can uh keep this inning alive because uh Caleb is is on deck and it'd be nice to get him up with uh the bases loaded or a couple guys in scoring position.
SPEAKER_02So he's coming to a stretch, he's okay.
SPEAKER_06It's a little uh little foul behind us. Two balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_02So shortstop second baseman, they're trying to play a little cat and mouse with Dylan back there. You you watch there, they're just both trying to trying to deke him and and uh it's really not affecting him. He's staying out there with a nice lead.
SPEAKER_06Pitcher comes set, here's the throw. Outside got Peyton to chase an outside pitch. Two balls, two strikes. Still working to keep Dylan close.
SPEAKER_02Sit back on that, Peyton. Sit back. There we go.
SPEAKER_06Pitcher steps off the rubber here. You can tell that having Dylan out there at second base is really uh unsettled this pitcher. He's oh yeah. Uh he's really struggling. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. Got him on that curveball. We will be back after a break.

SPEAKER_12And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_06Welcome back, everyone, to Bishop Mueller Field. Uh heading to the top of the fourth inning. Uh Lamar's will have Peters, Reganitter, and Pick coming to the uh coming to the plate. Uh some more underwriters for Catholic Radio, McClintock Insurance, Meyer Brothers Funeral Home. Wilmus Do It Best Hardware, Sioux City in South Sioux City, Nebraska. I was in Wilmus early this morning buying a uh power strip, so I'd make sure we had power tonight, John, and we turned out being at home and everything was all set for us.
SPEAKER_02So shout out to Mike. Mike was a year behind me in high school, so just a wonderful guy.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, they do a great job.
SPEAKER_02Give Mike a little business.
SPEAKER_06Throw down. We'll see what uh we'll see what Caleb comes out with here to start the fourth inning.
SPEAKER_02Those little favors have just done a wonderful job. These boys, I know Jeff and Kathy both uh just really ooh, nice pitch inside.
SPEAKER_06Beautiful. Yeah, batter did a good job fighting that off and found it off to the right side. Still having a hard time catching up to that fastball.
SPEAKER_02Strike two.
SPEAKER_06He is really in command right now. Really in command. I like when he pitches because he pitches like he's double parked. He wants to hurry and get out. That's a good ball right there.
SPEAKER_02His follow through right now, Mike, in the fourth inning compared to the first inning, is it's just like night and day. You you know, he got those jitters out of the way in the first inning, but he's coming through that extension of his right arm and the follow-through after he steps down is you see that you know that stride. You can see where his his left foot is coming down, and that right arm is just coming all the way through. He can put that ball right now pretty much anywhere he wants. Boy, you gotta call that. That's just a beautiful pitch.
SPEAKER_06Reagan iter at the plate, it's one ball, one strike. Caleb struck out uh Peters to start the inning. Fooled him on that one. Uh good curve ball there. One ball, two strikes. Oh, that was a good curveball, a little high. Two balls and two strikes. Caleb comes set. Here's the pitch. Foul down the third baseline. Count remains two and two.
SPEAKER_02Coming on the inside corner with that same pitch. That fastball. He's he throws that fastball on the inside corner, no way. Always have it was the inside.
SPEAKER_06It was just a little in. A little too far inside.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Got a huge uh shout out coming up between batters here, John. Okay. Swinging a miss there. Inside, just like you said, John.
SPEAKER_05For the bulldoze.
SPEAKER_06Regonitter strikes out, brings Pick to the plate. Uh, I'd like to give a shout-out to Amber Haggerty. Uh she posted today that uh she is officially cancer free. Uh so that's excellent news uh for the Haggerty family. Uh Amber and Nick are uh two great people. Uh Nick does a lot for uh Healing and Healing Athletics. Uh with that last batter. Uh there's going to be a pitching change. Uh Caleb LaFaver is heading to the dugout, and that brings Mason Moravic into pitch. So we'll take a break uh while Mason warms up and we'll be back.

SPEAKER_12And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_06Welcome back. Mason Arabic out on the mound. He's a left-hander. Uh Caleb did a great job pitching. He ended up with one, two, three, four, five, six, seven strikeouts uh through four innings. So uh pretty solid performance. Uh a little bit of first inning jitters, but he settled down and uh really was never afraid to throw that curveball. Didn't matter what the count was, he was gonna throw it.
SPEAKER_02No, it really good first outing. Um, I'm sure he'd like to have that first inning back, but you know what? Uh the big pitcher, uh, he's he wanted to get that that first game in and and uh get those jitters out of the way. He threw extremely solid two through four. Uh had great command of his pitches here in the last two two and a half innings for sure. Uh hitting the corners whenever he wanted it. Um and and if you watch Caleb, if any of you guys get a chance to come out and watch Caleb, that is one thing you'll see. And then Peyton does a really good job of that as a catcher, is they set up, they set up on the corners. They don't give that that pitch right down the middle. Um sometimes you get an up to calls it, sometimes you don't.
SPEAKER_06Pick steps in against Moravic, and there's I'm guessing there's gonna be quite a change in velocity from what they were used to. First ball was low and inside, one ball, no strikes. Comes from the left side, I like that.
SPEAKER_02Change it up a little bit.
SPEAKER_06Yep. Another pitch, low and inside, two balls, no strikes. I watched Mason pitch a little bit on Saturday. He pitched in and did a nice solid job.
SPEAKER_02Come on, young man. Here we go.
SPEAKER_06Yep. First chance on the mound this year, and just need to settle down. A little bit of jitters, he'll get it. All four of those pitches were in the same place. So pick walks, that brings McDougal to the plate with two outs. It's obvious. I mean, I I watched Lamar's last year when we played them up there, and it's obvious they're much improved this year.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they were young last year and and uh and obviously that was one of the things. He was he was looking forward to uh Coach Cander was the development of his young players.
SPEAKER_06Um so Moravic throws over to first. Uh pick not taking much of a lead, but Mason wants to keep him close. Good pitch there. There we go, young man. Swing and a miss for strike one. He needed that. Yeah, he needed that. After four straight balls and that really weren't that close, and now he comes back, throws a huge strike. High curve ball there it looked like, John.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, a little up. A tough situation. I mean, you bring him in with two outs.
SPEAKER_06Uh there's the pitch. Oh swing and a miss, strike two, one ball, two strikes. Uh he's doing a nice job. I know when I talked to Coach Wesselman on Saturday, it's uh when you get past uh Caleb and Nathan, it was you know, we don't need the velocity. Just throw strikes and and let the defense take care of you. Oh, nice job. Nice job. Swing and a miss there for third out, strike three. Uh three four up, three down for Lamars. Uh when we come back, it'll be the bottom of the fourth, and we'll have Caleb LaFaver, Shaner, and Carol coming to back.

SPEAKER_12And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_06Welcome back. I'm Mike Skaggs with John Tritz. Uh, great job by uh Mason uh coming back after walking that first batter on four pitches and getting that strikeout. He really settled in and uh I think he's gonna be a nice solid addition to the uh pitching staff.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it threw solid. You know, he once he found a strike zone, he threw, I think he threw three straight then that second batter there.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he did. He did a really good job. So here we come. Uh it's one to nothing Lamars uh in the fourth inning here. So uh we've got three, four, and five up. So if if we're gonna get something going, now's the time to get it started.
SPEAKER_02You know, one thing we talk about LeFavre when he was pitching, just to go back a little bit, is you know, I mean you and I are are here watching him, but uh behind home plate were several scouts and and uh both college and pro to watch him. That that's got to be a little nerve-racking for a young man. Uh you know, he's got we remember he's still 17, 18-year-old kid here. So and uh once he got over those nerves, he was solid.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he was. It does have to be a little unsettling. Uh, you know, he he's committed and signed to Iowa, but uh you never know what the future might hold for this young man. First pitch low and outside for ball one. All right, it's time to start putting together some hits. Yeah, put the ball in play and uh make the defense get you out. Here's the pitch. Nice ball lineback over second base. Good job of hitting there by Caleb.
SPEAKER_02Just beautiful patience. Nice and calm. Just beautiful patience on that. Hit it right up the middle.
SPEAKER_06So Caleb on first uh brings up third baseman, uh Brody Shaner. I was half expecting maybe a pinch runner for Caleb, but apparently they're gonna let him run.
unknownThey can DH now.
SPEAKER_06I just got a rules interpretation from Jay Wright, so now I know why Caleb's still out there. That first pitch was high to Shaner, ball one.
SPEAKER_02You know, one thing you teach the hitters is you want to drive that ball right through right through the pitcher's head there. That's where that's where you want to if you know, as a as a as a good hitter, you're you're during practice. Oh, just beautiful.
SPEAKER_06That ball ripped past the third baseman. There we go. Shamer with a base hit there. You got runners on first and second now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you teach your hitters to just drive it straight through the middle. That that's the ideal. Uh straight through the middle, right up through the where the pitcher's head is. And that's what Caleb did, and then you know, Shaner, he just jumped on that first pitch. That was, and that's what we got to start doing on this guy. He's he's putting that first pitch in for a strike every time.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he's uh he's putting it where we can hit it. We just gotta do it. Uh brings up Tommy Carroll. He uh hit a nice line shot to the shortstop first time up. Come on, Tommy. And shortstop and second baseman are worried about Caleb. I don't know that there's much danger that he's gonna run.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_06Oh, wow. First pitch uh outside, but called a strike. So no balls, one strike to Tommy.
SPEAKER_02That's tough. That's tough when an umpire calls that pitch, because I mean that now you that changes things when you're up there as a batter.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, you don't know what you're supposed to swing at. That ball was virtually in the same place, and that was ball one. So it's one ball, one strike. Good job of laying off on that, even though uh he knew that first pitch was called a strike. Nice gap between first and second base here. Nice that ball's hit right between first and second base out to right field. They're gonna hold the runners. So we've got the bases loaded with no outs.
SPEAKER_02That's just a beautiful piece of hitting by Tommy. Took that curveball to right field. He he he just waited just just perfectly and took it between the second baseman and first baseman.
SPEAKER_06That brings up Nathan Gaswin. Yeah, he did exactly what you were talking about. They need to do earlier in the game is just wait on that curveball and and catch it when it breaks and and take it the other way, which is what he did. So just go with it. Here's a great opportunity for Healing to uh manufacture some runs. Base is loaded, Nathan Gas went up.
unknownWatch your butt.
SPEAKER_06Pitcher taking a long look in. Good cut there by Nathan for strike one.
SPEAKER_02Taking a little little step in, Nathan, a little step in toward the plate. Just missed that curveball.
SPEAKER_06I'm sure he's probably a little amped up with the bases loaded. Here's a chance to uh drive in that first run of the season for healing. Here's the pitch. Oh, got him on that curveball. That was a good curveball. That strike two.
SPEAKER_02Here we go, Nathan. I'm gonna guess he's gonna he's either gonna come back with that pitch or he's gonna throw a high, high fastball up, but I'm gonna guess he's coming back with that pitch, Mike.
SPEAKER_06Runners not not taking too big a lead out there. That I don't know what to say anymore, John. One ball, two strikes. I think the catcher had a couple questions on that one, too. Yeah, I've I think they're as confused as we are, and and we're up here in the press box. But pitcher comes set, starts as lined up. Here's the throw. Got him on that curveball again. So Gaswent strikes out, brings up Aiden Lefaver. This will be something. Aiden's got a chance to drive his brother in for the first run of the season for Healing. So uh we'll we'll see what we can do here. You know he you know he swung the bat plenty uh with travel ball and then the offseason, so here's his chance.
SPEAKER_02Boy, he does not like calling that pitch.
SPEAKER_06Uh well, he does sometimes. He's very selective when he calls it. Uh and he's folks, he's calling it bad both ways. Yeah. He's mi I'm sorry, he's missing it both ways. Yeah. Uh but you you just never know what it's gonna be. We have to wait and see. Um pitcher goes into his windup. Here's throw.
SPEAKER_02That ball low and outside, two balls, no strikes. Oh, this is you gotta be licking your chops here, kid. This is this is what you this is what it's all about. You got two and oh bases loaded, he's gotta come with a strike.
SPEAKER_06Let's yeah, let's just hope he doesn't try to do too much. Just make contact and put the ball in play. Pitcher into his wind up. Here's the pitch. That was low. Three balls, no strikes. Now, if my wife were sitting here and he let strike this next pitch go by as a strike, she'd be having she'd be yelling at the TV. Why didn't you swing at that? Us old folks, we we know you never swing at 3-0.
SPEAKER_02Unless you got a green light, and I'm assuming that he does not probably have the green light. I would guess no.
SPEAKER_06That pitch in there for a strike, three balls, one strike. Pitcher still got to come back and make a pitch, though. Coming with that curveball again, John.
SPEAKER_02That's his pitch. The curveball. He's he's getting more more catchers lined up inside. That ball is outside. Ball four. Here we go.
SPEAKER_06So one to one. Got a new ball game now, Mike. That makes a score one to one. We still have the bases loaded with one out. And little LeFavor gets the first RBI of the season. I guess I can I guess I need to find out from his parents what we're supposed to call him. Baby Lefaver, little LeFaver, or Aiden.
SPEAKER_02I'm guessing mom would say Aiden. I'm gonna guess that too. He is I'll tell you what. You got bases loaded with some serious wheels here.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, Dylan Knapp up to the plate. That was ball one, and I'm telling you, uh, favor at first and Carroll at second are taking huge leads out there. So this ball gets hit to the outfield. Uh there could be a couple more runs coming in. Good cut there by Dylan.
SPEAKER_02Keep that head in, Dylan. Keep that head in. Don't pull the head.
SPEAKER_06One ball, one strike. Yeah, there Lamar's rightly so is not uh not even worried about holding people on base here. They've uh LaFaver and Carroll are about 10 to 15 feet off first and second. Another swing and a miss there by Knapp. One ball, two strikes.
SPEAKER_02Just need to make contact here, Dylan. Nope. Take a step in there. Take a step in. It's gonna come back with that same pitch. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Probably a little bit high with that pitch, but he he swung at it uh for strike three at the second out. That brings Chase Beck to the plate. Base is still loaded and two outs. Uh Lefaver and Carroll.
SPEAKER_02What a nice scoop by the catch.
SPEAKER_06That was a good good scoop there. Pitch was low, ball one. Aiden's about halfway to first by the time the pitcher throws by the time the pitcher throws the ball.
SPEAKER_02Second baseman's not even coming over. He's staying, he's staying put. Uh shortstop's the only one kind of kind of in the gap a little bit.
SPEAKER_06Pitch on the outside corner for strike one. One ball, one strike. Man, if he could line it just to the right of the second baseman, uh we'd get a couple runs out of this. Oh. Oh, wow, boy. Oh, that was just strike two. I was wondering what this umpire was doing. He thought he thought he was amped up for strike three because he he called him, he wrung him up. And and folks, that that pitch was as far inside as some of those outside pitches have been that have been called strikes. So one ball, two strikes, bases loaded. Here's the pitch. Here we go. Way outside. Two balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_02I keep wanting calling him Carson, but it's Chase. Of course, Carson.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, we well, we talked about that. There's a couple of these guys that we gotta remember. It's not their brothers playing. It's no uh it's them. So pitcher looks in, starts his windup. Here's the pitch. Good eye. Oh, that brings it to full count. Runners will be off with the pitch, so you make contact and put it in a hole. Uh we might get two, three runs here out of this. Here we go. Get moving, boys. Here's the line-up. There's a pitch. Ground her right back to the pitcher.
SPEAKER_02Sorry. Manufactured a run, Mike, and and now we got a new ball game.
SPEAKER_06Did get a run out of that. It's now one-to-one, heading to the fifth inning. Uh we'll be back after this short break.

SPEAKER_12And now back to your Crusader sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_06Welcome back to Bishop Mueller Field. We're heading to the top of the fifth inning. Moravic back out there on the mound. He really settled in after that first battery the last inning. And in this inning, Lamar's will have the nine one and two hitters, Albrecht, McKinnis, and Clary. This has been a real pitcher's duel uh all the way through. McInnes has done a good job keeping uh healing off balance and and you know once Caleb settled in that first inning, uh he did a really good job of keeping uh Lamar's off balance as well.
SPEAKER_02He said it perfectly. That's exactly what McGuinness is doing. He's just he's kept us off balance uh with that curveball. Guys, he's got our guys guessing a little bit. Um few of our guys, you know, I mean, they're they're uh they're just guessing wrong right now. And then and uh I think the third time around we start seeing him, we've seen him twice. I I think the third time around our guys have a little bit more success with him, and I'm assuming that they'll leave him in.
SPEAKER_06Uh he's got nine strikeouts, so uh he's been very effective, like you said. Number eight has already into the wind up on the pitch, bounces that in there for ball one catch, display catch here. Pitch was low for ball two, two balls, no strikes. There we go. Ball's popped up. Just out of reach, just made it into the stands. Erickson made a good effort to come back and catch that. But it was just a little too far. That was pitcher perfect.
SPEAKER_02Uh you're a catcher, you're out here. You with uh Peyton turned around, got that helmet off, located the ball. I mean, that was just pitcher perfect as a catcher. Go find that ball. Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_06Good pitch there. Swing and a miss, two balls, two strikes. Arobic settles on the mound, starts his wind up. Here's a pitch. Beautiful, nice job. Swing and a miss there by Albrecht. That's a beautiful curve ball on the outside corner. Strikeout from Arabic brings McKinnonis to the plate. One out. McInnes in there from the left side.
SPEAKER_02You know, you were you were talking about uh shifting, um, you know, with with Moravic throwing a little bit uh less velocity than than Lefaver and uh especially with this left hander. I you know, I'd almost want to move our our shortstop third baseman over a little bit and our our our left fielder over. These guys are if they do make contact, it's it's probably gonna be ahead or they'd be pulling the ball. And uh right now we're playing them straight up, but I almost want to move them over a little bit.
SPEAKER_06That second pitch there was outside, two balls, no strikes. Grounder to second baseman Beck. Throw to first for the out. Nice play, young man. Out number two, four to three. That brings up Clary.
SPEAKER_02I don't think our right fielder needs to be playing down a lot. I'd move him over a little bit.
SPEAKER_06First pitch, nice pitch, nice pitch. Strike one, no balls, one strike to Clary. Robic's doing a really nice job. He really is.
SPEAKER_02You know, one thing our our infielders and our and our outfielders, I know the shortstop, what you're trained to do is kind of look and and and you want to see where the catcher's uh setting up. Uh that ball, is that pitch gonna be inside, outside? And you can kind of adjust your your positioning based off of that. Single out to left field. Yeah, and that's kind of what I was talking about right there, Mike. I think they're gonna be ahead on him just based off the velocity.
SPEAKER_06And uh brings tolls into the plate with Clary at first. Pitcher takes runner takes off from first base, successfully steals second.
SPEAKER_02That was a good throw by Peyton, just had a little trouble getting it out of the glove. He bobbled it. If he doesn't bobble that, that kid's out.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, first pitch was a ball. One ball, no strikes. Clary showed some good speed there, though. Wind up, there's the pitch. Here we go again. Yeah. Two balls, no strikes.
SPEAKER_02And you know if I'm the catcher, I'm telling that up right after that. That's the same pitch he's giving them, you know, that outside corner.
SPEAKER_06Nice pitch there, swing and a miss. Brings the count to two balls, one strike. Little hine outside there. Three balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'd keep him on. I'd keep that I'd I'd keep Clary close to the base. Yeah, he's shown he's got the speed. Yeah. You gotta you gotta you gotta deke him a little bit here. There you go.
unknownNice.
SPEAKER_06Nice pitch there. Full count. Yeah, Clary, Clary's getting off second base out there.
SPEAKER_02And Beck and Beck and JJ need they they need to be doing a little, you know, doing a little hollering behind him. There we go. There we go.
SPEAKER_06Nice play. Oh sharply hit down to third base. Shayner makes the play over to first uh to retire the side.
SPEAKER_02Just a beautiful play by Shaner. That ball was ripped right down the line, right in front of him. He made a nice uh clean one-hop scoop with the uh just a nice relaxing beautiful throw. We will be back after this break.

SPEAKER_12And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_06Welcome back to Bishop Mueller Field. Going to the bottom of the fifth, tied one to one. And Healin has Hope, Erickson, and Caleb LeFavor coming to the plate. So another opportunity to uh get to the Lamar's pitcher who has really been effective against this Healing lineup.
SPEAKER_02This third time around, Mike, and these guys have all seen it. They they know he likes to come with that curveball. Um he's kept us off balance, and like I said, I you know get up in the plate uh and hit that thing before it breaks. You know, you get or or step way back and get it as it's coming down. But you know, me personally, I like to jump up and begin in front of that plate. It looks like what JJ here is gonna do, just kind of looking where he's stepping right now.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, and McKinnis with each inning is getting more and more confident. So uh we we need to knock some of that confidence out of him here in this inning.
SPEAKER_02No, I don't mind.
SPEAKER_06JJ squares the bunt.
SPEAKER_02I don't mind that at all.
SPEAKER_06That was did make an attempt at it. That's strike one. Yeah, he's first baseman still playing back behind the bag. Third baseman's playing even with the bag, so uh they must not remember JJ from last year because he does have the speed to lay it down and get there. Now first and third are kind of creeping in just a little bit. Pitch on the outside corner for strike two. No balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_02You know, if I was in the pros, Mike, I'd be certain doing the circle there and having them go up and check that pitch. I think it was a little outside. Oh, which day?
SPEAKER_06JJ hangs in there, fouls that ball off toward Lamar's dugout to extend this at bat. Yeah, there this game here, there'd be a lot of that. Let's go, let's go take a look. Yeah. Pitcher starts his windup. Here's the pitch. Hi. That ball was high. One ball, two strikes. Uh good eye there by JJ, even though that was way high. They don't need to come in and start pressing. Just just make contact and and make this defense get you out. Fooled him a little bit on that one. Struck him out for out number one. Uh brings Erickson to the plate. So that's 10 strikeouts now for McKinnis. He is he is really doing an effective job against his lineup.
SPEAKER_02Well, we're really struggling staying off that curveball. And uh here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_03Boy, that's way out.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I don't know if anybody other than me and you are setting my home plate, but uh if they had video of it, I'd I they'd be scratching their head too. That was a good pitch there. In there for strike two, no balls, two strikes to Peyton. Pitcher starts his wind up. Here's the pitch. Ball's on that outside corner. Got caught looking for strike three. That was a beautiful pitch. It was, it was. That was uh strikeout for out number two brings up uh designated hitter, uh Caleb Lefavre. Now the right side of that Lamar's defense is sliding over toward the line. First pitch here. Way outside, ball one. One ball, no strikes. Caleb singled up the middle last time. Really did a good job driving that ball back out there. Um that one's in there for a strike. He started to swing and held up. One ball, one strike. Right back up the middle for Caleb. Uh fielded by the center fielder. Another single.
SPEAKER_02Just driving it right up the middle.
SPEAKER_06Yep. LaFavor at first. That brings up Brody Shaner with two outs. Brody had a nice rip last time at bat. Yep, he hit it right down the right past the uh third baseman's reach. So we just need to keep making contact. We're putting it in play, and and right now it's going where Lamar's isn't. First pitch here. Nice ripped it. Same place, right down the third baseman. Oh, go, go, go, go, go. Got by him. Misplayed by the left fielder. They're sending Caleb home.
SPEAKER_02Here we go.
SPEAKER_06Yep. Caleb scores from first. Shaner goes to third on the throw. I like it. I like it. Way to be aggressive.
SPEAKER_05Yep.
SPEAKER_06I love Caleb to death, but I never thought I would see him score from first on a ball hit the left field.
SPEAKER_02The relay was nice from uh the ball got by the left fielder for those of you that aren't here. The ball got by the left fielder and he he chased it down, got it to the third on a nice relay. The throw was actually ahead of the runner, but the catcher bobbled it. It was a one bouncer. So just a just a beautiful aggressive play. I I I don't mind that.
SPEAKER_06Brings up Tommy Carroll, fouls that first pitch down the right field line. Yeah, if if if the catcher handles that that throw cleanly, uh Caleb was out by three or four feet, but uh he didn't. And uh Healing now leads the ball game two to one, and it's no balls, one strike to Carroll with Shayner on third. Good eye, Tommy. That ball in the in the dirt or in the shredded tire or whatever it is up here at Briarcliffe one ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_02Shaner was up in the plate, like I was telling you, Mike, and he just jumped on that first pitch before it had any chance of breaking.
SPEAKER_06Good eye. Two balls, one strike. Yeah, I'm really impressed with uh Shaner's bat so far. He's he's done a very good job. Got caught looking the first time, but these last two times up, uh, that hasn't been the case. That ball swing outside gets away from the catcher. Shamer scores easily. There we go. On a wild pitch. Brings a score three to one. And the can't count now to Tommy Carroll is three balls, one strike. Uh Gaswent uh would be up next if if Tommy can extend this inning. Here's the pitch. Yeah, it's a nice pitch. In there for a strike. Sometimes when the catcher doesn't hold on to it, they don't get that call. But you know you did there.
SPEAKER_02Uh going back to that pitch before, I'll I'll I'll wait till after this pitch, but uh low, nice wall.
SPEAKER_06Bounces in there for ball four.
SPEAKER_02You know, this catcher, he's he's done it, he's done a wonderful job for Lamar's, but on that last one that got by him, uh if you're if you're a catcher and he he tried backhanding that ball. The ball was out and and in the dirt, and he tried backhanding it, and and it's really a situation where you want to get your body out. If you get your body out and just knock it down, you know, you prevent the run.
SPEAKER_06Brings up Gaswind, who's been caught looking the first two times up. So you know he's gonna be anxious to put the ball in play and make contact. Tommy Carroll over at first base, taking a sizable lead. So you have to wonder if he may be off here at some point.
SPEAKER_02His mom and dad, Heather and Brad, are sitting right behind home plate. I'm sure they're anxious to see their son get his first hit. Yeah, when they got here, they asked a couple of the scouts to move over. I don't know if I want to mess with those Gaswin boys. I know two of the three, and the toughest of all of them is their sister, so yeah.
SPEAKER_06Brad, I I got to know him pretty well last year. He and Heather both, and they're just they're really good people. They uh very, very happy that they brought uh uh made the move for Nathan to come to to Healing. And uh I know talking to those people in the building that uh their only regret is they didn't have the gas went uh family for four years. But yeah, uh that pitch there, good cut by Nathan. It's one ball, one strike. Uh first time I met Nathan last year, he was just I very impressed with uh how polite and and how nice of a young man he is. And uh he signed to go to Augustana. That ball's driven to the ball.
SPEAKER_03That's trouble.
SPEAKER_06That ball drops in, the right fielder can't get to it. Boy, good piece of running. Good piece of running. Carroll goes all the way to third on that, and Gas went and gets his first hit of the season. Nice single. Um we've got men at first and third with two outs. And here's Aiden Lefaver. We'll just go with Aiden until I find out what we're supposed to call him. But there you go. Uh he got the first RBI of the season for Healing the last time up on a bases loaded walk. And now uh he has a chance to uh help Heal and increase this lead. Catchers out there doing all kinds of signals. I think they think that Nathan's gonna run. And uh I don't I haven't seen Nathan with a whole lot of speed, but he's taking a pretty sizable lead out there, so who knows?
SPEAKER_02Nice cut.
SPEAKER_06Good swing and a miss there by Lafavor. You think maybe they send uh Nathan and then try to get him to get caught in a rundown out there and let Carroll score from third?
SPEAKER_02I'd like to get that insurance run. I'd like to get that fourth run, and and uh let me tell you, nice ball. Oh, that's trouble. That's trouble.
SPEAKER_06Ball hit to the third baseman gets away from the first baseman. Carroll scores on the play. Gaswent makes it all the way to third. So uh Favor just keeps doing LeFavor things.
SPEAKER_02What we had was a slow roller to third baseman who instead of coming up and and firing it, he kind of lobbed it over there and he one hopped it to the first baseman, and it got by him. Uh so now we got a first and third situation.
SPEAKER_06And we've got a pinch hitter for Dylan Knapp. We have uh Beckett Blatford uh up to the plate, batting from the left side. Runners at first and third. Good cut there by Beckett. Oh man, he's a big kid, so that's uh took a nice cut at that. Yeah, but no balls, one strike. That ball in there low, one ball, one strike. Bottom of the fifth, healing leads the Mars four to one. Uh been able to get three very, very important insurance runs this inning.
SPEAKER_02I like our aggressiveness, Mike, and and uh breaking ball in there for strike two. And that doesn't surprise me. Uh Jacob Wesselman coming from the Rems and St. Mary's uh Wesselman's and the program they had up there. That's that's just vintage uh St. Mary's ball.
SPEAKER_06And Carroll takes off from second. There we go. Uh trying to get them to play a little catch out there, and it didn't work. So Carroll advances to second, and that leaves Nathan at third. So we've got runners at second and third with two outs. One ball, two strikes on Blatchford. Nice grounder to shortstop. Nice play throw by the shortstop over to first base to retire the side.
SPEAKER_02That was a nice piece of hitting by Blatchford actually. It just hit it where they were instead of you know that that shortstop normally is covering behind second base. And he's out of position, but he he stayed over there, so that was a good play with the short. And we'll be back to Bishop Mueller Field after this break.
SPEAKER_09Missouri Valley Land and Cattle Consultants started up in 1987 by Mike and Virgin. They specialized in buying and selling cattle. You can reach Michael Richard at 712-251-4232. They're located in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota.
SPEAKER_12And now back to York Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_02Well, I like the aggressiveness.
SPEAKER_06Lamars will be sending uh four, five, and six to the plate. Genery, Peters, and Reganeter.
SPEAKER_02Wouldn't be fitting if we didn't mention uh uh Jacob Wesselman uh taking taking over for the legendary coach Andy Osborne, the amount of years and time uh that he gave to Bishop Healing Baseball. Um and I know all this whole coaching staff uh were all under Andy last last year and some of them for the last several years. So uh just a shout out to Andy. Uh we couldn't thank you enough for the for the time and effort and the program that you built here at Healing High School.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he did do a nice job and uh uh made quite a few trips to the state tournament, and his last one was uh the first state tournament in Sioux City. So uh it was great to uh see the following. Uh Genery steps in, Moravic with the wind up and the pitch. Very very important he got that first strike pitch instead of a couple balls to that first batter.
SPEAKER_02So you know he's calling that pitch as a battery you got to go up there and you know what? You you gotta protect the outside of the plate because he's that's the um now, that's the pitch he's calling. He's been calling it all game.
SPEAKER_06That pitch was fouled back. Uh no balls, two strikes. Uh Moravic's done a really nice job coming in uh behind Lefavre. He's uh settled in and and really done uh a nice job keeping these Lamar's hitters off balance. Boy, is it me, Mike, or is he just getting a little bit stronger each time he comes out? I think he's getting a little bit stronger. He's his confidence is building, and uh that pitch was low for ball one. It's one ball, two strikes, but uh he's not backing down from these guys. He's coming right at them.
SPEAKER_02I wonder which Moravic family this is. I should I should find out because I wonder if that's Punky and Dan's uh grandson.
SPEAKER_06That was a swing and a miss by Genery for out number one. Uh brings to the plate uh Peters, the second baseman. That's a third strikeout for Moravic. Yeah. So he's done a nice job. First pitch, swing, and fouled off.
SPEAKER_02You know, this you you go from from facing LaFavre, who's probably throwing in in the low 90s, and then and then Moravic comes in throwing, uh, you know, he's not throwing in in the 90s, obviously. I mean that really throws you off as a batter. Yeah, I mean it really does. And you have to adjust, and it takes a little while. And and Moravic's just doing a great job. He's painting the corners, he's he's got this off-speed pitch that he's really catching them on.
SPEAKER_06And the thing Lamar's has looked forward to is if if uh Nathan's pitching the next game, that speed comes back. Right back. So I like Moravik. He's a little bulldog out there. Yeah, that pitch was a ball, one ball, one strike. Yeah, he's that's treble. That ball lined over Beck's head into right field. Peters on first base brings up Reganitter with one out. Lou Pitt over the second baseman's head, just over just over his out his reach. Yep. Beck Beck was working on trying to make a uh a play on that. Needed a little height there, and I think he might have been able to jump up and get that.
SPEAKER_02Boy. Need to move back over a little bit, just a little bit.
SPEAKER_06Throw over to first base. Keep Peters honest. Reganetter steps in from the left side, so we got lefty on lefty here.
SPEAKER_03Beautiful.
SPEAKER_02Nice pitch there for a strike. Boy, he painted that corner. Just beautiful on the outside corner. No balls, one strike. Peyton came up. I thought he was going, but he came up ready to fire.
SPEAKER_06I would not uh take too many chances on Peyton Ericsson this year. Ball fouled off at the plate there. No balls, two strikes. Yeah, Peter's at first base. He's kind of dancing around out there, so it's hard to tell if he's actually gonna go or not. But uh Ericsson's watching him, and Ericsson Erickson's gonna be ready for him if he does go.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the thing Robic steps off. The thing with lefties either either you get a great jump or they're gonna nail you because it's just so hard to figure that out.
SPEAKER_06Runner goes, lineback up the middle. Great job of hitting there by Reganitter. Puts runners on first and second for the Bulldogs. One out, brings uh Cooper Pick to the plate. That was a good job of hitting there. Really was. I think uh Coach Wesselman's gonna make a visit out to the mound. If we have a pitching change, we'll take a break.
SPEAKER_02Looks like we got somebody coming in. Um I can't read the number, but he's coming in. No, he's gonna leave him oh he's leaving him in there. He's gonna leave him out there for now. Whoever was out in the bullpen's coming in, he might must he must be ready to go, whoever it is.
SPEAKER_06And then looks like uh Coach Wesselman's got a lot of confidence in Moravic in the way he's been pitching. Just throw strikes, young man. Just throw strikes. Let our guys make the let our guys make the play here. Runners at first and second with one out. Pick steps into the plate.
SPEAKER_02I still wish we would shift over just a little bit, Mike. Just a little bit.
SPEAKER_06Nice pitch there for strike one. I appreciate it. Absolutely. I've been really impressed with this young man. He's done a phenomenal job.
SPEAKER_02Throwing strikes, Mike.
SPEAKER_06Another one painted. He's he's putting it right where that umpire's calling that strike. He's he's not afraid to go out there to that outside corner. Peyton's doing a great job framing that thing right out there. Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_06It doesn't matter how good a pitcher you are, you're lucky to have a Peyton Erickson behind the plate. Absolutely. He can make those borderline pitches look like strikes.
SPEAKER_02I don't like that gap we have between third and short, Mike. I just don't like it. There we go.
SPEAKER_06That's a swing and a miss for strike three. Nice job by Moravic. Don't know what Wesselman said, but it worked on that better. Brings to the plate McDougal with two outs. Runner still at first and second.
SPEAKER_02Looks to me like we're we're he's staying on the outside corner, because that's not that's the only reason I can think JJ's playing playing so so much more in the middle.
SPEAKER_06Ball is high a little inside for ball one. I mean if we were doing players a game, uh Rotick's gotta be right up there as as one of those that we would have to look at. Bulldog, isn't he? Yeah, he is. I like that. Thank goodness he's on our side.
SPEAKER_02That's alright. That's alright. Get him off balance.
SPEAKER_06That pitch was low for ball two, two balls, no strikes. Yep, it's been his MO. He gets a couple balls on a on a batter, and he's able to come back and get him out. There's the pitch. Ball's high and outside, three balls, no strikes. I gotta be careful here. Don't want to load the bases. Uh next up would be the nine-hitter, uh, Jackson Albright.
SPEAKER_02I'm guessing McDougal does not have a green light on a 3-0 count, soutside for ball four.
SPEAKER_06That puts bulldogs on every base and brings Albrecht to the plate.
SPEAKER_02Number nine hitter.
SPEAKER_06So, really, first time that Moravic's been in any kind of trouble. Uh let's see if they're gonna leave him out there to work his way out of it. They are for now. He's pitching from the stretch, base is loaded. Albrecht up. Here's the pitch. Flies out the center field, nap settles under it and makes the catch. Nice pitch. Let your players make the play. That great job by Moravic coming back, getting the bases loaded and getting out of it. We will be back after this break.

SPEAKER_12And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station. Who is that? I missed the number.
SPEAKER_06Welcome back to Bishop Mueller Field where Healan leads the Lamar Bulldogs 4-1. Uh Lamar has a new pitcher. It is Isaiah Tolson. He comes in, uh right-handed pitcher. Uh while we've got a moment while he's warming up, uh I'd like to thank some more of our underwriters, Sunnybrook Dental, Staber Meats, Rin's Plumbing and Heating, Advanced Topson Vision, and Soho Kitchen and Bar. Thank you all for uh underwriting Catholic Radio. And folks, if uh you have an interest in supporting Catholic Radio financially, uh it's very affordable. Give the folks at the station a call, and they will be more than happy to uh work with you to find something that's affordable and and keep all the great Catholic programming on uh locally. John Mason Moravic, we've got to talk about him.
SPEAKER_02He's done a phenomenal job. He did exactly what uh Coach Wesselman wanted him to do. He came in, got us out of an inning, uh found his zone, uh and and just did a wonderful job. He didn't buckle on the bases loaded. Um just put the ball, you know, let the guys hit it and let our players make the play. Got to do a little bit uh McGuinness uh for Lamars. What a an outstanding job for that young man in his first uh appearance. Uh what do you end up with 10 Ks on us?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he had double-digit strikeouts on Healing. He he did a uh phenomenal job. He's he's got a bright future, and Lamar's uh they're gonna be able to ride him for a while this year this this year. That first pitch into Chase Beck was swing and amiss for strike one. Uh he'll be followed by Hope and Erickson. Uh that pitch in there for strike two. Uh yeah, we can't say enough about the great pitching we've seen from all three of these pitchers that have been out here. And and this Tolson is he's picking up right where McKinnon's left off. That ball in the dirt and outside for ball one, one ball, two strikes.
SPEAKER_02That was the first curve ball I saw him throw. He wants to he wants to work really fast.
SPEAKER_06Beck a little bit of an open stance there. Oh, that was a tough one to lay off of. He did, and it's two balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_02Man, he's not calling that though. He hasn't called that inside strike, Mike, all night. He's always it's the it's the outside corner that he's given.
SPEAKER_06Here's the pitch. Nice fouled off to the right side. Missed your truck, John. We hope it missed my truck. Caught the net. I'm trying to decide if I'm gonna let you know if it does hit it or if you can just be surprised when you get there. But so far you've got a full windshield. That was that was almost a curve eethus pitch there.
SPEAKER_02That hung up there a long time, Mike. Yes, it did. That was one of those ones that you you you just you clench your fist and you you mad at you after you're after the pitch is called a strike, you just shake your head.
SPEAKER_06Beck got caught looking for called strike three on that one, brings up uh JJ Hope. There you go. Fouls it down the right field line out of play for strike one. JJ grounded out pitcher to first base, first time up, got a walk in the third inning, and then struck out in the fifth.
SPEAKER_02Boy, this pitcher's ready to go. Look at him. Yeah, and JJ's not even in the box yet.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, this entire dream right there. This pitcher, if he were in college, would never come close to the 20-second clock. Uh that ball behind JJ for ball one, one ball, one strike. Yeah, if we had a pitch clock here, this kid, I don't think this kid would get below 10. There we go. Nice ball driven over to third baseman's head. Left fielder gets it back into the shortstop. Nice piece of hitting there by JJ. That was beautiful patience. He waited on that ball and just drove it to left field. Brings up Peyton Erickson uh with one out. I'm gonna guess that probably by pitch number two or three, JJ's off because he is almost has both feet past the cutout.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you don't need to bunt on this one. JJ. I'm I'm assuming he'll be taken off. Throw it first gets away from the first baseball.
SPEAKER_06Let's see how far they're gonna send JJ. Oh, he's they're sending him all the way to third. Here's the throw. He slid around the tag. Great job of base running there and great slide there by uh JJ over at third base. That was a beautiful slide. That ball definitely beat him there. The the throw beat him and he slid and took his body and arms around the third base and was able to get on the bag.
SPEAKER_02I don't see that. Yeah, I don't see a lot of argument. I figured Coach Cander would be out there if he thought that was a tag.
SPEAKER_06Oh wow. That ball fooled uh Peyton. You're exactly curved in there for strike one. I think he I think he was kind of hoping it was gonna hit him, the way he just kind of leaned and then turned away from it. Was gonna take it in the back. Hits a fly ball. We gotta be center field. He's gonna go, Mike. He's going. JJ, here's the throw to the plate. It's offline. JJ started down the line and came back. Yeah, that was a smart move.
SPEAKER_02That was a good throw by the center fielder. You're exactly right on that curveball. Compared to what McGuinness was throwing, it's almost like an ethos. For those of you that don't know what an ethos is, it's kind of a lob, kind of kind of a loop, a rainbow look to it.
SPEAKER_06Tolson must have dinner reservations at Bob's or Archie's or something, because this kid he wastes no time. He is he is raring and ready to go. They were announcing Caleb is the next batter, and this kid's ready to pitch. Caleb fouls that ball off down the left side.
SPEAKER_02He wanted that, he wanted that bad.
SPEAKER_06No balls, two strikes to the favor.
SPEAKER_02Oh, he's kicking himself. Shayner on deck.
SPEAKER_06That looked like lunch coming in. Caleb's had a good start to the season. Two for three tonight. That ball bounces away from the catcher. And I don't need to tell you the rest, folks. JJ was on third. It's now five to one healing. One ball, two strikes to count to Lefaver. Shaner on deck. Shayner's another one who's had a really good uh first game for healing. Caleb's two hits have been back up the middle, so he said I'll go to third base this time. And that throw gets away from the first baseman. Wild throw. Caleb is headed down to second and we'll get in there easily and safely.
SPEAKER_02I'm curious what they're gonna rule this because that was a tough play. That was uh backhand, and he had to Hey, there's nobody but me and you.
SPEAKER_06We're the official scorers. That was a base hit.
SPEAKER_02That's what I was gonna go with, but I didn't know what uh Jay over there was gonna. Let's see what Jay does. I gotta give him a hit on that. That's a tough play. And Caleb's got some wheels. Hendricks heat and end a pinch run for Caleb. Brings up Shaner. His dad might be a little tougher on him. He might, you know, he'd get home and say, oh, that was an error, son.
SPEAKER_06Well, in my book, it's a hit, so first pitch ball to Shamer.
SPEAKER_02I think I'm gonna go with him on that, Mike. I that was one of those THTH, too tough to handle.
SPEAKER_06Oh, Shamer turns on that one. Oh. Left fielder had to go back, but was able to get under it for out number three.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that wind's blowing straight in. I mean, you just hit it to the wrong wrong spot.
SPEAKER_06Healing scores one run. We go to the top of the seventh. Healing leads. Five to one.
SPEAKER_03Would you rule that, Jay? What's that? Would you rule that? I got a THTH. TH THTHIN LEW GOMETELP.
SPEAKER_06We are gonna keep it here as we head to the top of the seventh. And Moravic is back out there.
SPEAKER_02I thought maybe we'd see Rodriguez come in uh and throw in. And maybe and maybe he still will. We'll see what the plan is in this seventh inning, but he's gonna start off with Moravik. You know what? Let the young kid get this one.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I mean, this will be a win. This is, you know, he he came in with the tie ball game. Actually, we were I think we were down a run when he came in.
SPEAKER_06So uh yeah, I believe you're right.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_06Let's see, he came in here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think it was it was one of the.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, we were we were down. We were down a run, so good opportunity for Moravic to pick up his first win of the season. Like to thank Service Master Sue Land and Sue Body Shop uh for being underwriters of Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_02Shout out to Suzanne Wesselman, uh Jacob's uh mother. I'm sure if she's not here at the game, she's listening, hoping, hoping and praying that her son gets his first high school uh coaching career victory.
SPEAKER_06Lamar's has uh the one, two, and three hitters up to to start this seventh inning. Uh McInnis leading off. Moravic ended wind up with the pitch.
unknownNice.
SPEAKER_06Ball fouled back.
SPEAKER_02Painted that inside corner. Strike one, left-handed batter. That's exactly how you want to do it, boys. Just you come in on this kid. He's he's hogging the he's hogging the plate, and that's your plate. Come in on him.
SPEAKER_06That ball in the dirt and outside for ball two. One ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_02People always ask me, what do you do when a kid's right on the line up there? Well, you know what? You got to challenge him. You come in. Uh you make you make sure you the batter knows that that's your plate.
SPEAKER_06Check swing, he did go around on that according to the umpire. So it's one ball, two strikes. Robic has a chance to come back and get another strike out here.
SPEAKER_02Come in on him. That's a nice piece of hitting.
SPEAKER_06Ball foul down the left field line. Carroll gives chase. This kid's a tough out. He is. He's he's really been uh he's been tough. Walked the first time up, struck out, uh grounded out second to uh third, his last time up in the fifth, but uh he's he's made the pitchers work every at bat. And he's really hugging that ball. He really is. Pitch high for ball two, two balls, two strikes. Yeah, he's got one foot on the on the line there. He's he's up so far. Yeah, if it's anything inside, he's not it's not going anywhere.
SPEAKER_02There you go. Nice job. Beautiful pitch, young man. Painted that outside corner.
SPEAKER_06Brings up Clary. Yeah, he was crowding the plate, and Moravic said, Well, I'll just go outside then. Got him. Nice job of pitching there. Gavin Clary up to bat, one out. Moravic can feel it now. He's ball bounces in there for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Yeah, I can't say enough good things about how Mason has pitched. This is very impressive. First time out. First conference game, first game of the year. Ball's inside for ball two, two balls, no strikes.
SPEAKER_02Come on, young man, you can taste it.
SPEAKER_06But again, he gets these batters two balls, no strikes, and comes back and finds a way to get them out. So done it a couple times. Uh did it once with the bases loaded. Yep. I don't even get nervous now when Mason does it. Pitch is outside for ball three.
SPEAKER_02Peyton tried to tried to bring that back in just a little bit.
SPEAKER_06He tried. Umpire said, I'm not buying it.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_06That's a nice pitch strike there. Healing leads this five to one. Healing has seven hits. Lamar's has four. Lamar's has four errors. Healing has one. Three balls, one strike. Here's the pitch by Moravic. Fouled off. Strike two. Full count on Clary on Clary. That's my wife's relative. There, she's gonna kill me. I guess I got the pronunciation wrong, but it's Clary. Here's the pitch. Oh man. That just a little bit low. You know, Clary walks, and we know he's got speed, so you know uh he may be going trying to get in scoring position, even though they're down four.
SPEAKER_02I know Moravic wanted that pitch, uh, but he hasn't been calling that all night. You know, in in defense of the uh of the um piece he's established kind of a midsection strike zone and an outside corner strike zone. So there you go. Clary goes.
SPEAKER_06Nice nice throw by Erickson. Clary's out at second base. Erickson, as Erickson has been known to do. That was beautiful. Great throw out. I mean, that was that he was three steps ahead of uh Clary when the ball got there.
SPEAKER_02So um we were uh second baseman had a cup of coffee waiting for him on that one. That was a beautiful throw.
SPEAKER_06Very nice job. Two balls, no strikes to Tolson. Two outs, top of the seventh inning. Healing leads five to one. Swing and a miss there. Nice job by Moravik. Two balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_02Coach Wesselman has must be really working with these pitchers on on hitting the corners because you notice, Mike, do you see hardly any down the middle? Hardly any. Either pitcher. They they really painted the corners well.
SPEAKER_06That's a swing and a miss there by Tolson. So it's two balls, two strikes, two outs for the Bulldogs here in the top of the seventh inning. Can he get the strikeout to end it? Bounces that one in there. Brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Let's end him on a caught looking, John.
SPEAKER_02I'll take that.
SPEAKER_06I'll take that any day. Here's the pitch. Uh low for ball four. Puts Tolson on first base, but that that was a long at bat.
SPEAKER_05Of that four.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Brings up Jeanry with two outs. Healing leads five to one. And I would imagine he looked really bad on the curveball.
SPEAKER_02Um last at bat, so I'm see if he first pitch is high for ball one. Let's come back at him.
SPEAKER_06Tolson dancing around there off first base. I I would imagine after what you saw happen to Clary, who's got speed, you wouldn't want to be taken off. But another high pitch for ball two. Erickson did a good job of framing that. He just uh must not have brought it down quick enough. You you can tell by his body language that he He's talking to the umpire right now.
SPEAKER_02He had a couple words with him.
SPEAKER_06Uh I've seen Peyton for a year at a game now, and I I know exactly what that body language means. Good pitch there, swing and a miss. Two balls, one strike on Genery.
SPEAKER_02Mr. Umpire, I imagine that ball was up. Something like that, huh, Mike?
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Did I raise up too fast and you couldn't see, or or what what happened? Here Moravik comes set. Here's the pitch. That ball is lined out to left field. Tommy Carroll makes a great diving catch to end this game, folks. Beautiful catch by Carroll. He laid out. He came a long way and laid out for that. What a great way to end this game for Healing. Wow. Healing wins the first game of the year, five to one. We're going to take a break between games and we will be back with you. I'm guessing it's going to be about a 30-minute break, so we'll be back with you. It is 5 56. We'll be back with you at 6 15. We'll talk about the first game and what we have to look forward to for game number two.
