SPEAKER_20And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_03Welcome back to Bishop Mueller Field, everyone. Uh Healing wins that first game ten to nothing. And as we get ready for game two, we've got uh a couple special guests. We'll start with the prettier and smarter of the two, uh Heather Gaswent. Of course, everybody knows. Uh Nathan's parents will be up here to talk to us for a couple minutes. So year two at Healing.
SPEAKER_14Yes.
SPEAKER_03What what was the growth that you saw in Nathan between the beginning of junior year and the end of his high school career?
SPEAKER_14Uh I see a lot more um work he puts in. Um he's working in the offseason, working towards the end goal, wants to get to that next level.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he's uh his competitiveness i I mean it shows through and uh unfortunately for him that you know Tuesday he came up a couple times with the bases loaded and you know he wanted to really do some damage and uh instead of just relaxing and taking a little bit of that competitive edge out of it. So talk can you talk a little bit about uh the difference between uh Akron and Healan in terms of you know school and and things like that, because I know that uh just in conversations with with people that I'm related to that uh there's been some really positive things that have taken place uh during his time at Healing.
SPEAKER_14Yes, absolutely. Um Akron is was a great place. Um he had he had success there, great great community, um, but making the move really pushed him pushed him where he needed to academically, athletically, um just getting getting ready for college almost, just taking that step just to meet new people and make new friends and and get that bigger push in his academics and athletics.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's great. Now uh the graduation party coming up this Sunday. And that'll except with baseball still going on, that'll kind of officially end high school. And uh how are you preparing for August when he goes to Augustana?
SPEAKER_14Well, with everything going on this last month with all the graduation activities and the party, it it it it's kind of in the back of our mind, but yet I think once we get through um through this week with the party and um I I it it'll probably start settling in that it's it's coming, especially once once baseball's over, then I think I think that'll be the biggest thing for us um to end his high school career is when baseball's over.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that uh it's a tough time. I know it's it's still hard for me to think back on my five whenever they graduated from high school and headed off to college and everything. And my youngest just graduated from Nebraska uh week uh Mother's Day weekend, so that was uh that was tough. So I know that uh the next guest is not gonna answer this question truthfully, so I'll ask you who was closer to tears on Sunday of graduation? You or Dad?
SPEAKER_14I think it might have been a tie. I think uh I don't think either one of us had any tears drop, but I think we both got a little glassy-eyed.
SPEAKER_03It it happens. It happens. Well, I I tell you, I know that in talking with uh the staff at Healen, uh, and I I know it was posted on Facebook in one of the comments that uh the only regret that Healing has is that they didn't have you guys for four years because uh you're a phenomenal family. Uh I knew that from the very first time I met Nathan. He's a great kid, so much respect, and and uh you know, just wants to be the best that he can be, and and that's a credit to you folks and and a tribute to uh to the type of example that you guys have set for him, and we're just we're really excited to have him. Uh like I said, four years would have been great, but we're we're thrilled to have two, and I can't wait to see what the rest of the season holds for him. So I appreciate you stepping in and going first, and now we're gonna bring uh Brad, who has offered to even do play-by-play this game, but uh I don't know that he can move from his seat down there, especially after they made a scout move the other night. Hey, you you've got to slide over. This is our seat. So uh we're gonna bring Brad in here and ask him a couple questions and and then we'll uh send it back to the studio when we're done with Brad. Thanks a lot, Evan.
SPEAKER_14Thank you.
SPEAKER_02All right, you with me? I'm with you. All right, Brad's here. This is gonna help my voice.
SPEAKER_03First question I'm gonna ask you is I know you're not looking forward to baseball being done, but I would imagine you'll get a lot more help out there in the country whenever baseball's done, right?
SPEAKER_02Oh, I don't know about that. I he does help quite a bit when he's not playing baseball, but you know what, we're gonna travel quite a bit too when he goes to Augustana. Heather's already been looking at uh cities that we can fly into if he plays up there at Augustana. Awesome.
SPEAKER_03Well he's he's he's gonna play. It's just a matter of how quickly he's gonna play. And uh it's nice that he's gonna be close enough that you guys will be able to uh go and see a lot of games. Your your travel will be a little bit shorter than the Bleakers has been this this summer or this this baseball season. They've been all over the country. I think I think if they had one of those big motor homes and they had a map of the United States on the back, they'd just about have every state filled in with stickers. So a little bit about uh what you've seen in Nathan from from the beginning of junior year to now.
SPEAKER_02Growing a lot. Academically, for sure, baseball for sure. You know, I know I heard Heather. It's pushed him a lot, academically, um, and athletically, just facing this competition has been good for him. You know, anytime you can play up, right? It just makes you a better athlete all the way around. And and it's it's been huge for him. Uh I've seen his pitching grow from you know from 1A baseball to 3A baseball. Just the competition, the conference games, everything's been great. Fantastic, yes.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, the Missouri River Athletic Conference is tough. And uh, you know, East is gonna be good every year, so you've got that to look ahead to, and and uh, you know, these Healing coaches, they don't they don't schedule soft schedules. They go out and they they try to play people, and I know they'd like to get those Des Moines schools to come over here, but they don't want to because why would they come here when they've got that competition? But you know, I bring I bring two schools over if I if I knew I could face East and Healing if I was gonna be over in Sioux City.
SPEAKER_02And the complexes that they have over there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, it's it it's hard to walk away from those. So uh Tuesday night, Nathan's out there pitching, and uh he's rolling.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_03And I didn't say anything. It's never supposed to be brought up when it's taking place. I didn't I all I said on the radio was if you're not here, you you are probably gonna miss something very special.
SPEAKER_02You know, it's funny, half the crowd maybe doesn't know what we're thinking. They don't they don't keep track of that stuff, but uh when you're into the game for any pitcher or any player, uh a no-hitter is uh something we all uh uh dream of, and I I kept thinking there's a chance, there's a chance.
SPEAKER_03And a perfect game on top of that. And a perfect game, no walks. We're a break between the fourth and fifth inning, and I go, John, he's throwing a no-hitter in a perfect game. Yeah. And I said, Oh, at first I said we're not supposed to say anything, and he goes, What? And I said, I don't want to. I can't say it. And he looked and he goes, He's got a perfect game, and I said, Okay. Now I can say it. And I didn't, I I didn't say those words exactly, I just said it's something special. And uh whether it's perfect game or no-hitter, folks, uh, you need to come out and support this baseball team. Uh, they've it's gonna be a great season for them, they've got a bright future. Uh, you know, you've got Caleb and you've got Nathan who helped lead this team to the state semifinals last year and just lost a heartbreaker to Pella, and I know these guys want to get back to the state tournament and uh probably want to get another shot at Pella.
SPEAKER_02And I think they probably do, you know, and those two push each other so much, and it's great the friendship that he and Caleb have, uh Nathan and Caleb have. It and that's the other benefit that we've had from coming here, because now he spends more time with him than he did prior to, and it's it's really helped both of them. I mean, I've talked to Jeff and quite a bit, and and uh we both shared our comments on how you know each pitcher is a little bit different, but yet they they give something to one another to make them better, you know. So um yeah, it's it's been great. Definitely.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they're fun to watch all season for sure. We John and I, as we were heading to the car Tuesday, saw one of the Lamar's uh coaches and said, you know, you guys you got a pretty good ball club. And he said, Well, when you're facing two of the best pitchers in the state, it doesn't matter how good you are. So it's pretty nice. Uh they uh they knew what they were looking at whenever they showed up the other night. But uh, like I said to Heather and and I've said many times on the radio last year and this year, uh Nathan's just a great kid, and and I knew that the very first time I said hi to him, and he's uh so respectful to everybody. Uh and like I said, everybody at school loves him. Uh my daughter Mary Kate, uh she's uh you mentioned Nathan, and it's 20 minutes of conversation from her. She she loves him, and and that was uh when the seniors left last week, that was one of the harder ones for her whenever he came in to tell her to be able to get it a little teary-eyed. She she even told me she did. She will probably not like that I said that on the radio, but she got she got a little teary-eyed. She's over at soccer, so she won't hear it unless she goes back and looks like the the replay. So uh well, I appreciate you guys coming up and thank you very much. Uh looking forward to uh what the rest of the season holds. And is it all right if I show up at 10 45 Sunday morning or do I have to wait until 11?
SPEAKER_02Um, you know what? Why don't you roll up about 10 and we'll go check cows first? Let's get you involved in the farm a little bit. All right. You need another little hobby. I'll do that. My wife would love that.
SPEAKER_03She said, Yeah, you go on out and you you look at the cows.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, you can rename them or whatever you want to do.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I appreciate you guys. Uh everything that you guys uh do for uh Healham Baseball. I know you had the team out several times last year, and uh great party at the end of the season.
SPEAKER_02So looking forward to it again this year for sure.
SPEAKER_03Looking forward to the great rest of the season. I'll let you get back down to your seat. Thanks. So you can be there for that first pitch. Thanks for coming up. Uh appreciate you guys, and we will take a five-minute break and we will be back.

SPEAKER_20And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station. All enjoyment.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, it was uh w what a what a great interview uh by the Gaswins and and having Ben Taylor uh come up here in between the games and and talk a little bit about uh the wonderful job that uh Dylan Knapp did pitching and and uh some of the hitters uh and and just the focus that they had and the patience they had uh with the pitcher from Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson. Um looking forward to to seeing the young eighth grader pitch, uh Aiden LaFaver, who will be throwing in this second game, and and uh I know they're anxious to see what kind of composure he has. Um we all know he's throwing some AAU ball and and events like that, but uh pitching for your varsity high school, it's just a different experience, so they're anxious to get him on the mound. Um kind of a little bit about the first game. Uh we had a scoreless game going in through about four innings. Uh Council Bluff's Thomas Jefferson pitcher uh threw with a little bit slower velocity than a lot of our kids are used to, and really had. And that's what their coach, to be honest with you, that's what their coach was hoping to get out of out of him was to just throw strikes and let their defense do the job. And I'm sure he emphasized that in their meeting. Once we got into about the third time around, you could tell that they all had their timing down, and we put together quite a few hits. Obviously, the grand slam by Schaener uh just was a uh it just busted the game wide open. Um the Healing Crusaders are taking the field as we speak, um, and the young the young Lefavre kid is out there taking the ball and and uh loosening up as we go. Let's talk a little bit uh about the crusaders and uh in that first game. Um obviously the grand slam by Shaner uh just opened things up. Um uh the patience uh of JJ Hope, uh Peyton Erickson, uh uh LaFavre, uh their patience at the plate, um really just paid dividends third and fourth time around. Um as we watch young LaFavor, looks just like he looks just like his older brother, to be honest with you. Those of you that have not seen Aiden, uh you're basically looking at at uh just a little bit younger Caleb built maybe maybe an inch or two shorter, but looks like him. And uh and throw is very similar, maybe not quite the velocity at this point. Um got Mike coming back here. Uh what are you seeing, Mike?
SPEAKER_03Uh I'm keeping an eye on on Aiden out there warming up, and you're right. I mean, it's uh it's almost a clone of his brother, and uh it'll be interesting to see whenever he gets a batter in the batter's box as to how he deals with that. Uh for Thomas Jefferson, batting order will be leading off. Garrison will be playing right field, Null the pitcher. Murgan will be at first base, Anderson will be at second, batting fourth. Townsend batting fifth and catcher. Norton will be batting sixth, playing third base. Grant will be batting seventh, playing left field. Persinger will be batting eighth, playing center field. Jager will be the designated hitter, and Tripp will be playing shortstop. And here we are, we're ready to go. First pitch is high for ball one.
SPEAKER_07Try to break one off there for his first pitch, which is uh kind of surprising that uh he went with that curveball right away, Mike.
SPEAKER_03That pitch was in there for a strike on the inside corner. He settles in. There's the wind up. Ooh, ball fouled off into the Thomas Jefferson dugout and catches Mergen on the left forearm. Jeez. Yeah, that thing was a sharp hit. I know. It's my wife wishes they'd put nets up or the kids wouldn't stand there at the fence, but it's like, okay, try to tell the kids don't stand up there. They're gonna do it. One ball, two strikes to Garrison. Here's the wind up in the pitch. Fouled back for Key Leaves account at one ball, two strikes.
SPEAKER_07Beautiful curved ball on the outside there. Beautiful. He's uh kind of works just like his brother, doesn't he? Same motion. Yeah, nice patches.
SPEAKER_03Swing and miss, gets away from Peyton Erickson. No throw down to first. So got a K. Able to get to first base on the passball. Garrison's at first, brings Noel to the plate.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, Peyton's going out there right now to talk to Aiden. I think they got crossed up, Mike. Uh that's not like Peyton. I it he I think he was expecting a fastball and um, or excuse me, I think he was expecting a curve, and and uh Aiden threw him a fastball in the end, inside corner. They had a nice little discussion out there, and it's probably just a cross up on the signal.
SPEAKER_03I'd like to give a shout out to Bridget Moore and her family down in Omaha. Bridget's making homemade cinnamon rolls and listening to Crusader baseball. Aiden LeFavre checks the runner over at first base, comes set. Here's the pitch, bunts it right back to Aiden. Aiden wisely goes to second, unable to make the play at first.
SPEAKER_07Well, I think that uh the runner from uh TJ did a wonderful job of uh sliding, kind of took JJ out. Uh but uh those of you that uh that uh are new to the game or whatever you saw, uh Erickson backing up first, and that's exactly why you uh as a catcher, you take that angle and you back up first base on an overthrow like that, then you're there. Otherwise, that guy's on second base.
SPEAKER_03Got null at first base. Mergen steps in, takes a big cut at that first pitch for a strike. No balls, one strike. One out. Game just getting underway. Score is zero to zero.
SPEAKER_07Beautiful play by Aiden when that ball is hit right back at him to turn and make that throw. Oh, snap throw over to first, keep the runner on us.
SPEAKER_03Lefaver checks the runner at first, doesn't have a very big lead. Here's the wind up in the pitch. Huge breaking ball there for outside for ball one, one ball, one strike. It had a nasty break on it.
SPEAKER_07Nasty break. Yeah, remember this is new. This is new for Peyton, too, as a catcher. It's probably the first time he's caught him.
SPEAKER_03That ball fouled down the third baseline for strike two, one ball, two strikes. Yeah, this is where Peyton's maturity is gonna come in. Yeah, that's very handy.
SPEAKER_07Huge. It's huge for Aiden to have someone like that behind the plate. Playing uh playing even up at second and short.
SPEAKER_03Lafaver with the pitch. Fouled at the plate. That was count stays one and two.
SPEAKER_07That was r okay, that was really weird. That ball, he hit that ball, and I almost think it had backspin. Yeah. Came up and hit him in the hit him in the leg.
SPEAKER_03We'll be back on the air tomorrow at pregame at 5 45, first pitch at six when the Crusaders take on Harlan. Another ball fouled, another huge breaking ball by Kay or Aiden. He doesn't seem too uh too rattled by anything, though, too. No so far.
SPEAKER_07So far so good. He I mean he's throwing a lot of breaking balls here, and and uh I don't know, like to see him like to see him unleash fastball in that inside corner here. They this guy's seen about about three curve balls.
SPEAKER_03Lefaver continues to check the runner over at first where his older brother is. That that's a good way to get your uh first no-look strikeout for an official out. Caught the batter looking.
SPEAKER_07I think he thought that was gonna be inside, and that thing just just hooked right in.
SPEAKER_03For out number two brings Anderson to the plate with null at first base and two outs. That ball hits sharply between left and center, drops down.
SPEAKER_07Good job getting that ball in and keeping that guy at first base.
SPEAKER_03Tommy Carroll fields it. So a base hit for Anderson there. Advances null to second base, brings Townsend to the plate. Townsend the catcher in this game. Men on first and second, two outs.
SPEAKER_07Well, he's got himself in his first situation. We'll see how uh how Aiden handles this. Get a guy in first and third.
SPEAKER_03There's the pitch.
SPEAKER_07Beautiful. Man, he's got a breaking ball. Yeah, that thing really hooks. It really hooks.
SPEAKER_03It's going right at the hitter, folks, and then it sharply breaks across the plate. Here's the wind up. Delivery. Nice. Swinging a miss for strike two.
SPEAKER_07That's the first uh really good look of uh of a nice fastball that we've seen in these this first handful of batters, and and he uh he placed it right where he wanted to. Peyton was set up outside. He was a little bit outside, but got got the hitter swinging. Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_03Fouled off back toward the screen. Keeps the count at no balls, two strikes. Null at third, Anderson at first, two outs.
SPEAKER_07Peyton come back, and and yeah, he is. He's going on the inside with him. Got him. Strike three.
SPEAKER_03So officially three strikeouts, but uh it took four four outs to get there. At the end of one half inning, it is zero to zero. We'll be back in 30 seconds.
SPEAKER_11And now back to your Crusaders. Hi, Christian Dave here from Sneakies.

SPEAKER_20And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_03Welcome everyone back to Bishop Mueller Field as we head to the bottom of the first inning. Healan and Council Bluffs are tied 0-0. Uh another lefty on the mound for TJ this game. That is null. Uh Healen will send JJ Hope, Erickson, and Caleb Lefaver to the plate to start things off here. Throws with a little more velocity than the pitcher in the first game, Mike.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, there that's a huge difference in velocity between lefty and lefty here. Oh yeah. Yeah, I was talking to uh a couple of the parents in between games and and uh and they were talking about that, how you know the our guys were were, you know, you're just you you see that and you just get anxious when somebody's not throwing with with much velocity. And it took them a couple of bats to and once they did, you know, obviously the result was what it was, ten nothing. But you know, and that's a learning thing as well for for these, especially these young players. I mean, they get up there and and uh you've got to adjust to the pitcher, and and if it means getting back in the box or getting up front in the box, uh you've got to make that adjustment. And I think we did a really nice job of that third time around.
SPEAKER_03Did a nice job and it helped. There were uh what four consecutive walks. Yeah, it makes it easier to get those runs in and all you have to do is keep the bat on your shoulder.
SPEAKER_07So here we go, bottom of the first inning, JJ Hope stepping in JJ's JJ's open the box on this guy.
SPEAKER_03Hope was two for three in that first game. First pitch in there for a ball, one ball, no strikes. Pitcher with the windup, here's the pitch. He bunts it beautifully down the third baseline. Third baseman wisely lets it go.
SPEAKER_07Beautiful bunt, just a beautiful bunt. And you know, I'd love to say that the uh the lip of the grass pulled that thing to the left, but this is a field turf field, and I don't think it's gonna go anywhere but where the ball wants to go.
SPEAKER_03Catcher's looking over at the dugout, shaking his head, so I don't know what what he's being asked, but whatever it was, it's uh it's not what they were hoping for.
SPEAKER_07Beautiful job putting that bunt down there by JJ, though. Yeah, I like I'm sure that's not gonna be the last time we see that. Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_03Pitch high for ball two, two balls, one strike. Pitcher looks in, here's his wind up, there's a pitch. Ball hit sharply out to center field. Center fielder settles under it. Yeah, he just got underneath that one. Brings Erickson to the plate. Like to thank Gretkin Family ICare, Heidman Law Firm, Heidman Family Dentistry, I'm on Communications, J and J Coins and Collectibles, Jimmy Johns, and Keller Williams, Keller Williams Real Estate Agent Tammy Bertrand. That's a lot of L's to try to get in there, John. Pitch first pitch fouled off by Ericsson for uh for strike, no balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_07Thank you for being sponsors for Catholic Radio and for Bishop Healing. We it doesn't go unnoticed, trust me.
SPEAKER_03Wind up in the pitch. Way inside to Peyton for ball one, one ball, one strike. Yeah, we appreciate the underwriters for uh keeping Catholic radio growing and giving John and I an opportunity to call Healing Baseball for you for everyone out there. Pitches in there for low for ball two, two balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, these uh these young men, uh Bishop Healing Bull.
SPEAKER_03Ball ripped down the third baseline. Erickson makes the turn. He's heading for two.
SPEAKER_07And he's in there. He's underneath it. That's a good call. Good call. He was definitely underneath that.
SPEAKER_03Slides in under that tag and gives the old lightning bolt. Did you uh catchers usually don't have that kind of speed, John? Did you have that speed when you were playing?
SPEAKER_07Well, uh I had a little more of a piano on my back. Uh he got there a little quicker than I did. Oh man. No, these young men are very fortunate to be able to have a radio station that follows and broadcasts their game. It just what a what a delight it's been for us and uh to be able to highlight these kids as athletes and not and and and and also be able to say a little bit about uh Bishop Healan and the education and the Catholic education that these young men get.
SPEAKER_03Caleb LeFavor steps in with heat and the pinch runner out at second base. LaFay LeFaver fouls that first pitch off for strike one. He wanted that one, Mike.
SPEAKER_07He he he he dug in. He knew exactly what he was getting. That right field just missed it. That right fielder gets a little farther back every time Caleb comes up.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Pitch low and outside for ball one, one ball, one strike. And another advantage that Caleb has right now is the sun is shining in the right fielder's eyes.
SPEAKER_07You know, Caleb looks like he's put a little muscle weight on. I mean, from last last year to this year, you know, and I'm I'm sure if I asked his dad, he'd he'd tell me it was uh probably hitting the waist, but I mean it looks like a good ten pounds, maybe heavier.
SPEAKER_03Fouls that ball sharply off toward the heel and dugout.
SPEAKER_07One ball, two two balls, two strikes is a count. Well heaton, he's uh tell you what Erickson's been on so much these last three games that Heaton's getting a lot of work. Yeah. Caleb fouls that one down the third baseline. That's a beautiful piece of go uh, you know, a beautiful uh piece of hitting going with it, taking it uh to left field as a left-handed batter. I mean, this is what I'm talking about being patient, and you can't you can't, like we were talking the other day. A little bit outside. Pitch outside. As we were talking the other day, you know, you were talking about shifting with the players. I mean, you can't shift on him because he goes to he goes to left, center, and right.
SPEAKER_03Pitcher taking his time looking in. Comes set. Here's the pitch. Caleb fouls another one. Get out of there. Fouls another one off. Left fielder makes a valiant effort to get over there, but wasn't able to do it. Before we get too far into this, we're one game and a little over a half an inning, and we John and I could not do what we do without Jack Stevens back in the studio. He he keeps us going and and keeps us straight, and for a young kid, he's very demanding and makes sure that we know what we're doing, and uh he gets us on the air and makes sure we stay on the air. So as long as long as we stay connected and plugged in, I think that uh we make Jack's job a lot easier.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I'd like to reiterate that. What a great job Jack does. Followed that last one off. Here's a pitch. Pitches way high for ball four. That was a great at bat by Caleb. I bet I think he threw about 11 pitches on that one, Mike.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Caleb did a good job fighting pitches off and staying with it. So bring Schayner up, uh had the grand slam in the first game, really turned on that. Actually, he hit it over the fence twice. The first one was foul. He made sure the second one was fair. Erickson uh Heaton at second. Lafavre at first, first pitch in there to Shaner is a strike. I don't think he was expecting that. That was a nice pitch by the pitcher through it outside corner. No score yet, but the Crusaders are threatening, and there's one out. Here's the pitch. Pitch in there high for ball one, one ball, one strike. Wind up in the pitch on the outside corner. Both these umpires love that outside corner, and it's it is a strike when they call it. They're not just making it up. So that was a good pitch.
SPEAKER_07He he painted that corner. And the catcher did a good job keeping that glove out there. Pitch way inside. Two balls, two strikes. I don't mind that pitch. If I'm if if I'm uh the other team, I don't mind that pitch coming in on him, especially after the grand slam last at bat. Here's the pitch. High and outside.
SPEAKER_03Ball three. Full count to Schayner. Heaton on second, LeFavor on first. He rips that one down, foul down the third baseline. I'd like to take a moment and let everyone know that on June 14th, uh Curious Catholics Movie Night will be at the St. Michael Parish Center. Join us for a light dinner, popcorn, and the movie for greater glory. And if you're coming, bring a dessert for everybody to share. Again, that's June 14th at 5 p.m. Shayner pops that up. Pitcher makes a play on it right inside Fair Territory for the second out.
SPEAKER_07Just got underneath that. Uh I think he was expecting something a little more in and and uh and just got underneath it. Nice play by the pitcher.
SPEAKER_03That brings Tommy Carroll to the plate. Nathan Gaswent would be up next. Here's the pitch. Pitch is high for Ball one, one ball, no strikes.
SPEAKER_07Tommy looks really good at really good at the plate, nice and comfortable. He's got a he's got a pretty even stance. Um got the bath night and relaxed nice and relaxed. There we go.
SPEAKER_03Ball bounces in there, gets away from the catcher. Heaton advances to third. So runners at second third. Two balls, no strikes to Tommy Carroll. Chance to put a couple runs on the board here in the first inning.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, they're really playing him. Uh center fielder's moved over a little bit.
SPEAKER_03Pitch outside low for ball three. Three balls, no strikes.
SPEAKER_07Got an open base here at first. Not so sure they're gonna give him something. There we go.
SPEAKER_03Ball four. That will load the bases. Bring up Nathan Gaswent. Well, as a as an opposing coach, when you know that when you look at it and you see that Gaswent's been struggling a little bit at the plate, you want to want to put the opportunity on Nathan and not give it to Tommy and drive a couple runs in. First pitch to Nathan's on the outside corner for a strike. No balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_07It was kind of an unintentional, intentional walk. He didn't give Tommy Carroll anything to hit. Here we go.
SPEAKER_03Nathan hits that sharply to the shortstop. Throws him out at first. Healing gets a couple runners on, unable to score. At the end of one inning, the score is Healing Zero, Thomas Jefferson Zero. We'll be back in 30 seconds.
SPEAKER_19You're listening to FM 88.1, KFHC, Ponka Sioux City, and KOIA, Storm Lake, Siouxland Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_20And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_07Welcome back here to Bishop Neeler Fields, Sister of St. Francis Field, to be exact. Some of our sponsors for our Catholic Radio and our ballgame, Cruise Financial Group. Went to school with Jill, so thank you very much. Lawler Fixtures, Liberty National Bank, Lightform, Modern Day Parish, McClintock Insurance. Give a shout out to my good friend Tim and Meyer Brothers Funeral Home. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healan uh Catholic uh baseball and Catholic radio. And uh what did you think about that last uh at at BAP by Gaswin, Mike?
SPEAKER_03We talked about it a little bit. Seems to be the most comfortable he's looked uh in the three games that that we've watched him. And uh, you know, he's been up several times with the bases loaded, and I think his competitive nature probably puts a little more pressure on himself than he needs to, but uh he looked really comfortable that time, and and I think he was just trying to make contact with the ball and did. Unfortunately, he hit it right at the shortstop.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I agree with you. Yeah, that he he looked really good. You know, and it and I know it was an out, but yeah, he he ripped that ball.
SPEAKER_03Morton steps in for the Yellow Jackets. Lafaver with the pitch. In there for strike one, swing and a miss. Wasn't even close to that one.
SPEAKER_07Almost, you know, that looks almost like a slider. He's got a slider curved.
SPEAKER_03Just missed that one. That pitch was on that outside corner. Peyton wasn't able to hang on to it, and I think that's what kept it from being a strike.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I think he's got the semi-curve, it's kind of a semi-curve, almost a slider looking pitch, and then he comes back with a hard break. There's a pitch.
SPEAKER_03Oh, that had a lot of break to it, just a little low. That thing that was a good looking pitch. That thing had a lot of movement. Goes into his wind up pitch. Shallow. That's it, the shallow left. Carol Camps under it for out number one.
SPEAKER_07I want to forget uh I know listening from Okeboji, uh, and I'm sure he got to listen to his grandson pitch a wonderful game in the first one, but Chuck um Chuck uh and uh Mary um up there in Okeboji listening, uh just uh um just a wonderful job by your your your grandson Dylan in the first game. Yeah, he did a good job.
SPEAKER_03Five strikeouts. Uh brings Grant to the plate. And you can't throw high to this kid, he's only about five feet tall. No. If he's that. And Aiden says hello by buzzing the tower and going behind his back on that one. First pitch, ball one. He tries to be an intimidating hitter up there. Nice pitch there, swing and a miss for strike one, one ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_07I'd come right back. Same pitch. He's so far ahead of that. Nice curveball on the outside corner.
SPEAKER_03It's right there for strike two. You gotta wonder, too, if if TJ, when they found out that an eighth grader was pitching, if they didn't think, okay, this is this is gonna be T-ball for us. Yeah, there's no question.
SPEAKER_07There's no question. But you know, I mean, w we're kind of all in the unknown here with with Aiden. This is the first time out that a lot of us are getting a chance to see him.
SPEAKER_03Two balls, two strikes to count. That one's on the inside corner for strike three. Okay, that was a beautiful pitch. He he fooled him with that one.
SPEAKER_07He froze him, threw that ball. That ball, uh, for those of you that are not here and listening on Catholic Radio, the ball was thrown right at him, and it just broke and just caught that inside corner. Beautiful pitch by Aiden.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he he started to dive out of the way and just headed to the dugout. He knew it was strike three. First pitch. Outside for ball one. Persinger has stepped in to take his shot at uh the young LeFavor.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, he's he's kind of in a little bit of a groove here.
SPEAKER_03Nice pitch. That pitch right there on the outside corner for strike one. One ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_07I'm sure Jeff's out there watching uh his uh the second eldest uh of his three boys here. Um and one thing I'm sure he'll talk to him about is leaving leaving that hand out there and and and and exposing your hand to the curveball. And uh he did that that last pitch, but he'll learn on that. Here's the pitch, good breaking ball for strike two, two balls, two strikes. And he hid that one just perfect. So that's exactly what Jeff will say, I'm sure. You know, you keep that ball in the glove as long as you can, don't let him pick you. Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_03Slow roller to third, Shaner feels it, throws to throws high to the favorite first. Persinger will stay on the bag.
SPEAKER_07It's a great job by both the catcher and the right fielder backing up first base and uh and getting that overthrow. That's an extra base, an extra base hit, if uh if either one of those two aren't back there.
SPEAKER_03That's true. They both did a good job getting down there and helped cover. That brings Jager to the plate, the designated hitter. He's a big kid. Intimidating present there in the batter's box first pitch. In there for strike one. Yeah, that's a pitch.
SPEAKER_06Nice pitch.
SPEAKER_03Swing and a miss there for strike two. Really fooled him on that one.
SPEAKER_07You know, the way he's striding, he's striding to the outside of the box. I'd come back with that same pitch. I don't think he can hit that outside corner pitch.
SPEAKER_03The ball hit sharply to Beck at second. He throws over to Hope, uh, covering the bag for the third out. That's a beautiful inning. Beautiful inning by Aiden. We'll take a 30-second break and be back for the bottom of the second inning.

SPEAKER_20And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_03We are back at Bishop Mueller Field, headed to the bottom of the second inning. Healan will be sending the designated hitter, and I've been waiting to say this since we started, John. Alex Rodriguez. So we've got an A-rod in the lineup tonight, folks. He'll be the designated hitter. Uh Chase Beck will follow that, and Dylan Knapp will be batting third.
SPEAKER_07I I didn't think uh we'd be calling his name first hitting. Um talking to Coach Wesselman that uh I think I think he's one of our closers. I thought maybe we'd see him the other night, but we didn't need him.
SPEAKER_03So he uh when I was at the scrimmage on Saturday morning, I found out we had an Alex Rodriguez. I there was no way he was gonna be anything other than A-rod uh all season long. So I I prefer Jeter. Pitcher finishes warm-ups, throw down to second. And Alex Rodriguez is gonna step in here.
SPEAKER_07If I'm not mistaken, Mike, uh didn't he come over from uh Sal Sioux, correct? Uh that I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_03Didn't get that information. Pitcher looks in, starts his wind up. Here's the first pitch. High and outside for ball one.
SPEAKER_07Oh Alex looks good in the plate. He's got a nice comfortable stance. Turn the music off, yeah. There we go.
SPEAKER_03That pitch is way outside. That was air mail to home plate. Two balls, no strikes to Rodriguez.
SPEAKER_07That pitcher kind of forgot to follow through there. Ball ended up up in the net. Can't tell what have we got? Three. I think we have three and oh, but there's nothing up on the scoreboard right now.
SPEAKER_03Three balls, no strikes to Rodriguez. There we go. That pitch right in there for strike one. Three balls, one strike. And now they got it corrected. Wind up in the pitch. Nice cut. Swing and a miss there. Takes the count full.
SPEAKER_07Really nice cut. Just missed it.
SPEAKER_03Here comes the next pitch. Low and inside for ball four. Rodriguez draws a walk in his first at bat. I think the pitcher kind of wanted that one. That was just a little bit low. Got Rodriguez at first. We've got Chase Beck stepping in. Rodriguez takes a short lead over at first. Here's the pitch to the plate. Oh, he hits sharply out to center field. Center fielder's on his horse. He's not going to get that, folks. That's all the way to the fence. Rodriguez rounding third. He's going to score. Chase Beck in with a run-scoring triple.
SPEAKER_07What a nice piece of hitting by Chase Beck. And sat back in the box and took that thing to right field. That's just a wonderful piece of hitting. You know, waited for the pitch to come in and the center fielder. I don't think he thought it was hit that hard. And then that thing ended up by the warning track.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that brings up Dylan Knapp, and both Beck and Rodriguez showed good speed on that as well. Dylan pops that one up into the infield. Pitcher makes the play for the first out. Brings up JJ Hope. Healing currently leads this one one to nothing with Chase Beck at third base. I'd squeeze it in here, John.
SPEAKER_07You know, I would not put it past him. And and I know Coach Wesselman, he'll play small ball if he has to. And you got the you got wheels at both on third base and up the plate.
SPEAKER_03That pitch high for ball one, and JJ just looked down to check, see how deep the third baseman was playing. Next pitch on that outside corner for a strike. One ball, one strike. Outside for ball two, two balls, one strike. Erickson would be up next. Erickson had that nice double in the first inning. Healing's really starting to hit the ball hard. Yeah. Oh. That pitch was outside. And first time I think John and I would question.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, the umpires have done a fantastic job tonight. Fantastic job.
SPEAKER_03I remember these two from last year. They were very good and very consistent. Here's the pitch. Swung on. Hope drives it to center field. Center fielder makes the catch. Beck tags. He's on his way home and he's going to score easily.
SPEAKER_07So Hope with the sacrifice fly gets the run across. JJ did exactly what he was supposed to do up there. I mean, obviously you would love it if he got a hit and got on the base. But he made contact. And you got a guy on third base, you've got to run sitting there. He did exactly what he needed to do, put the ball in the air, made the center fielder make a play, and just it was an easy, easy tag for Chase.
SPEAKER_03Peyton Harrison steps in with two outs. Healing leads two to nothing. First pitch high and inside for ball one.
SPEAKER_07Peyton looks so much more comfortable at the plate this last three, four at bats.
SPEAKER_03That pitch. He turns on that one. Left fielder has to run it down. At the warning track. Good power there. So three outs. Healing's able to score two runs, two to nothing after two innings, and we'll take a 30-second break.

Great opportunity for some fellowship there on Sunday morning after 10 o'clock mass. Garrison steps in, faces LeFavor for the second time.
SPEAKER_07He definitely made sure he was going to throw that at the waist this time.
SPEAKER_03Yep. Yeah, he I he remembered last time. Caleb, Caleb, you're tall, but Caleb said I'm not quite that tall. Brings Noel to the plate here in the top of the third inning.
SPEAKER_07He's got a really nice stance in there. He's in there, he's comfortable. It's it's not open, but but just looks really comfortable at the plate.
SPEAKER_03First pitch was outside for ball one. Here's pitch number two. Fouled off. Strike one, one ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_07I'm sure Peyton took notice of where that where that stride was that right foot on that swing was dipping toward first base. He'll come back outside. That's exactly where he set up. Pitch hits sharply back to JJ Hope.
SPEAKER_03It's short, throws it over Lefaver at first for the second out. A little closer than I like there, Mike. Yeah, it was. I've got this one. Has the potential to be a real short inning here for Aiden. He looks in. First pitch to Mergen. He's outside for ball one.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, that's that swooping uh it's almost a slider looking pitch there. And he'll come back. I bet he comes back with that curve.
SPEAKER_03Ball hit sharply to Shaner at third base. Throws to Lefaver at first. Well, he went from really high to really low. That ball skips in there to Kayla, but he's able to scoop it up and make the play for the third out.
SPEAKER_07I have a feeling, Mike, I know what we're going to be working on in practice with the next one.
SPEAKER_03After two and a half, Healing leads Thomas Jefferson, two to nothing. We'll be back in 30 seconds.

SPEAKER_03Welcome back to Bishop Healin Baseball. I'm Mike Skaggs. John Tritz is joining me. I'd like to let everybody know on Monday there will be a Memorial Day Mass at Calvary Cemetery at 9 a.m. in the Golgotha section. In case of inclement weather, the Mass will be held in the mausoleum. That is Monday, May 25th at 9 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery.
SPEAKER_07Just some wonderful events that we got going on around Sioux City and our different parishes. You know, get involved, be involved. Um I know you're you guys are involved up at at Holy Cross, Mike, and and uh I'm involved in the nights over at Sacred Heart and just just wonderful events that those people put on, you know, and a around the uh at all the parishes in Sioux City.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, all the parishes do great things and uh if if you can find a way to get involved, get involved. We've uh my wife and daughter got me hooked on Latin Mass every uh Sunday morning at 8 30 at St. Boniface and uh it's it's a really neat thing to attend and and be a part of. Caleb Lefaver steps in here to lead off the bottom of the third inning. Pitches outside for ball one.
SPEAKER_07You know, if I'm an opposing pitcher, uh he looks so comfortable when he gets in there, and that's he's got just he's just got a beautiful stance, and he just looks so relaxed.
SPEAKER_03Pitch outside for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Healing leads Thomas Jefferson two to nothing here in the bottom of the third pitch. Boy, he turned on that one. Caleb turned on it, pops it up between second and center. That's trouble off the center fielder's glove. Caleb was gonna take off to second because nobody was covering, but thought better of it.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, the pitcher got there in a hurry. Yeah, I knew that that was gonna be trouble. He didn't have a beat on that from the get-go.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that that was gonna be a tough play. So uh if for our stats, that was that was a base hit. That brings Schayner up to the plate, popped out to the first baseman or the pitcher in the first inning. Pitch in the first pitch in there for a strike, no balls one strike.
SPEAKER_07Pitcher likes to work the outside corner, and I don't blame him on Shaner in the way he's been pulling pulling that ball. Absolutely. That's a trouble. That's a trouble. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Center fielder makes a long run, makes the catch, Lefavre retreats back to first base.
SPEAKER_07You got a lot better jump on that one. And made that made that play uh relatively easy out in the left center.
SPEAKER_03So Lefavre at first, one out brings Carroll to the plate.
SPEAKER_07Chance for Tommy to do some damage here. Let's uh, you know, with one out, let's move the runners.
SPEAKER_03Fouls that down the first baseline. Up against the fence for a strike, no balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_07Beautiful inside out swing by Tommy. I mean, that ball was uh kind of curving to the inside corner and and uh he adjusted and took that thing to right field and just uh just foul.
SPEAKER_03Here's the pitch. That pitch is high for a ball, ball one, one ball, one strike. There we go, let's move him. Nice Carroll grounds that sharply the short. Turns the double play. Hey, hit it to hit it solid to end the inning. So Healing gets no runs in that inning. Score remains two to nothing as we head to the top of the fourth. We'll be back in 30 seconds.

SPEAKER_20And now back to your Crusader sport on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_03Heading to the top of the fourth inning, the Healing Crusaders lead the Yellow Jackets two to nothing. And that that third inning was a really quick one for Aiden Lefaver. I think he probably threw less than 10 pitches and was able to get out of it with three outs.
SPEAKER_07He did uh he he did exactly what uh what they're hoping he could do. And um I'm I'm thinking I don't think he's thrown a lot of pitches. I don't have my pitch count here, Mike, but he's gotta be under 50.
SPEAKER_03He hasn't thrown a whole lot, he's no he's probably between maybe 30 30-35 pitches.
SPEAKER_07The thing I like about A is so far, Mikey, I mean, he he's throwing everything, he's right around the zone. Even when he misses, he's not missing by much. And his the rotation of his ball, a lot of times his fastball kind of moves in, and it almost looks like the same motion he's throwing is curve. And I and I really I really do think it's it's messing up some of their hitters because they're they're looking for that thing to curve and it's breaking in. His fastball has kind of a natural tail to the inside, and uh, you know, it's almost like a left-hander throwing from the right side. If you know if he was familiar with that left-handed tail.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, being a lefty, I know all about that. Yep. First pitch. Popped up. Aiden Lefaver settles under it, makes the catch for out number one.
SPEAKER_07In that situation, I don't mind him taking. I really don't like it when I when the pitcher takes that fly ball. You know, there's a lot of things that can happen, uh tripping over the mound, etc. But uh situation like that, it you know, it wasn't that high, and he took command of it.
SPEAKER_03Brings up Townsend, who struck out first time up. Oh, nice pitch just outside ball one.
SPEAKER_07Peyton tried to bring that in. That's when the elf might say to Peyton, uh don't bring that in any farther than that.
SPEAKER_03Next pitch. In there for a strike, strike one, one ball, one strike. Like to thank Shram Electric and Security National Bank and Service Master Siouxland for underwriting Catholic Radio. Here's a pitch. Big breaking ball there.
SPEAKER_07Two balls, one strike. That's that swooping, that's that swooping, almost slider looking pitch. And a lot of times he'll come back with that tail-end fastball.
SPEAKER_03Swing and a miss there for strike two, two balls, two strikes. Also like to thank Sioux Body Shot, the Sioux City Musketeers, and Sioux City Sprinkler for their support of Catholic Radio. And the pitch. Grounded to Shaner at third. Shayner bounced another one in. Caleb makes a great job, makes a great scoop over there at first base for the second out.
SPEAKER_07You know, I don't mind that. He got rid of the ball quick, and I know it went in the dirt, but it was just a little short hop. I'd rather see him doing that than than you know than lobbing it over because he's afraid he's gonna overthrow him. So good play by a third baseman, Shaner.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, absolutely. He's been busy this game. Yep. Uh that brings up Norton, uh, who flew out to left field his first time up. Here's that first pitch to him. Just inside for ball one. That's that tail-end fastball I was telling you about Mike right there. I'd like to thank People's Bank of Sioux City and Prime Bank for their support of Catholic Radio. Next pitch by Aiden. Just high for ball two, two balls, no strikes.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, he's right around the zone. Even even when he misses, he's right around the zone. Another pitch outside. Three balls, no strikes. Gather yourself here. Take a deep breath, and you're down 3-0 here as far as uh in the count. Just gotta fight back.
SPEAKER_03Another pitch way outside for ball four.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, Peyton's telling him forget about that one, got that one out of your system. Let's come back and get this one.
SPEAKER_03That's the first walk he's given up tonight. So uh brings Grant to the plate.
SPEAKER_07That's the first time I've really seen him miss uh consecutive pitches in a row like that. So he'll bounce back. Like that.
SPEAKER_03Grant, big swing and a miss there. I'd like to thank Queen of Peace, Trinity Heights, and Ruley Family Chiropractic for supporting Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_07Kind of watch for him to lay one down. He's got some wheels.
SPEAKER_03Oh, he rips that over Shaner's head at third base. Run him from first. Boy, geez, he said. That's all the way to the fence, folks. They're gonna send him. Yep. He's gonna score from first. Norton scores from first to make the score two to one. And Grant ends up at second with a big double.
SPEAKER_07That was just a miss for it. That ball got there in the corner down there where that dirt is up along the fence. And it kind of bounced around. Tommy had had a beeline on it out in left field, but it just kind of bounced around. He couldn't get a grip of the ball.
SPEAKER_03Yellow Jacks have been able to cut the lead in half. It's now two to one. Two outs. Grant on second, and Persinger steps in. He grounds it back to Aiden Lefaver, who trots over, tosses it to his brother Caleb to get out of the inning. We go.
SPEAKER_07Way to get out of the jam, Aiden.
SPEAKER_03So after three and a half innings, it is Healan two, Thomas Jefferson one. We will be back after a short break.

SPEAKER_20And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_07Welcome back to Sister of St. Francis Field and the Jim Ward from Pressbox here at Briarcliff College. Like to talk Sneaky's Chicken, Soho Kitchen and Bar, St. Augustine Indian Mission, Staber Meats, Sunnybrook Dental, and Tim and Lisa Swedeen. Like to also give Tim and Anne Reed a shout out, our superiors over there at Catholic Radio. Hope you're listening, Tim and Lisa. So there you go, Mike.
SPEAKER_03And that Anne, she's a wonderful lady, but I'm uh let me tell you, when we were trying to get connected today and we finally did, she said she was going to take me and Jack out to the barn and beat us. I don't I don't know what that means, but uh I'm anytime she speaks, I listen. I can definitely tell you that. What a wonderful person. Gaswin steps in to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning. Ball bounces in there for first pitch bounces in there for ball one, one ball, no strikes. He'll be followed by Alex Rodriguez and Chase Beck.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I just love to see him turn on one here. Just like that. You got your wish.
SPEAKER_03He turned on it a little too soon.
SPEAKER_07I mean, this kid is so strong. Just know if he if he gets one in his wheelhouse. I mean. That was a perfect example. Just follow.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. He pitch on the outside corner for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Yeah, it's it's definite he's got the power. And when he gets it going, I no one's gonna want to face him. Here's the pitch. Way outside for ball two. Two balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, he likes that outside corner, this pitcher. He's and the catcher likes setting up out there. That's exactly where he's going. There's a pitch. Nathan gets that one. Just missed it.
SPEAKER_03Got under it. Yep. You can tell the frustration as he came out of the batter's box, but he made good contact. That was a good at bat for deep fly ball for Nathan on that one.
SPEAKER_07Deep fly ball to left field. Yeah, he's he's just got to be patient, young man. He's he's he's gonna start turning on these. That's just getting in the cage.
SPEAKER_03And here's Arod. Walked his last time up and scored the first run of the game for the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I'd kind of like to see what he can do. He he he didn't get much to swing at last at bat.
SPEAKER_03Yep. First pitch in there for strike one.
SPEAKER_07I just missed it. Just missed it on the outside corner. He's got to choke up a little bit and uh make that play yours.
SPEAKER_03Here's the pitch. Way inside for a ball. One ball, two strikes. Again, if you're just joining us, it's bottom of the fourth inning. Healing leads two to one. That pitch way outside for ball two. Two balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, this catcher's doing a good job of uh yeah, he's going outside again. Nice. That's it.
SPEAKER_03Throws a little offline, so Rodriguez is able to get on.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, there's no way he was gonna make that play. Just beautiful hit in between third base and shortstop. Uh making that shortstop come over to his right. That that's he wasn't gonna make that play. Brings up Chase Beck, who had that big triple his first time up. Yeah, he pounded that thing. You know, and that's that was almost kind of against the wind over to right center.
SPEAKER_03First pitch outside gets away from the catcher. Rodriguez will take off down to second base, get in there safely. One ball, no strikes to Beck. Dylan Knapp is on deck.
SPEAKER_07You get that ball high in the air going out to left field. That thing's gonna go a long way. That wind's just blowing straight out.
SPEAKER_03Here's the pitch. That pitch is high for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Here's the pitch. Boy. Just got underneath it. Got under that one, popped it up, shortstop, settles under it, makes the catch for out number two. That'll bring Dylan Knapp to the plate. Rodriguez down at second. JJ Hope would be next up if Dylan is able to get on and extend this inning.
SPEAKER_07You know, Dylan's another one, uh, Mike, that I mean, I can see him laying one down. You're not gonna catch him. He's got he's got great wheels.
SPEAKER_03Pitch low and outside for ball one. Yeah, Dylan uh he was the designated pinch runner last year, and when he got out there, it was fun to watch. That pitch on the outside corner for a strike, one ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_07Had one of the hardest hits I've ever seen a high school kid make down state playoff in football this year. I've only uh swing. Swing and a miss by Dillon. I've only seen a couple people hit as hard as he did. Uh Jerry Stabil back in the day, and Leo Berger against Dalian back in the 77 playoffs.
SPEAKER_03That pitched to nap inside, two balls, two strikes. Rodriguez at second. Knap at the plate. Trying to get that run back that Healing gave up in the top of this inning. That pitch takes the count full.
SPEAKER_07Three balls, two strikes. Yeah, he I heard their coaches wanted that, but that ball was over by the for by the you know the batter's box on the right side. Yeah, that pitch. Nice.
SPEAKER_03Knapp hits it sharply to third, third baseman scoops it up, makes a throw to first for the third out. Ripped that ball, just right to the third baseman. Very unfortunate. So that retires Healan. We head to the top of the fifth. Healing two, Thomas Jefferson one. We will be back shortly.
SPEAKER_19Missouri Valley Land and Cattle Consultants started up in 1987 by Mike and Virgin. They specialized in buying and selling cattle. You can reach Michael Richer at 712-251-4232. They're located in Dakota Dune, South Dakota.
SPEAKER_20And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_03Well, we have a much more competitive game this time around than the first game that Healing won 10-0 in uh five innings. Uh the score in this one is two to one. Thomas Jefferson will be sending Jager, Garrison, and Null to the plate. So they've got 9-1-2 coming to bat. And Aiden LeFavre is really doing a great job out there holding his own and keeping these guys at bay. Uh only giving up the one run. Uh hasn't thrown a whole lot of pitches. So uh Healing fans and and coaches have to feel pretty good about this so far.
SPEAKER_07Absolutely. Uh, you know, this was the unknown that Coach Wesselman was talking about before the game when I had a conversation with him was the pitching of uh of Aiden you know LaFaver. Uh Coach Wesselman knows what he's capable of, but it's just it's getting out there and and doing it. And being in this situation, Mike, I mean, this is you're you're in a in a varsity event, you know, as an eighth grader. Um you and I might not as we think about that, but you know, you put yourself back as a 13, 14-year-old young man, and and that's gonna be kind of intimidating. He seems to really be handling the pressure.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he's done a great job. I want to let everybody know what's ahead for Helam Baseball next week. On Wednesday, we will be at north uh 5.30 and 7.30 first pitches. We'll be on the air at 5.15. Thursday, we'll be at west, same thing, 5.30 and 7.30. We'll be on the air for the pregame at 5.15. And on Friday, it's kind of a special day. Uh it's either breakfast with the Crusaders or brunch with the Crusaders. We're playing at 10 a.m. against Boydon Hall Rock Valley. And then uh late tea with the Healing Crusaders on Friday afternoon when we uh first pitch will be at 4 o'clock. So on Friday, we'll be on the air at 9.45 in the morning and also back on at 3.45. Sharply hit to Beck at second base, fields it, makes throw over to Le Favor at first for the first out.
SPEAKER_07Our guy's got to quit thinking about our six foot six first baseman over there and get that ball down a little bit.
SPEAKER_03Just throw it to him. So, yeah, you can have breakfast with the Crusaders next week, and then you can have tea with them in the afternoon.
SPEAKER_07Hopefully, I'll be going from that second game right to uh the substate championship in our boys' soccer.
SPEAKER_03Is that on Friday?
SPEAKER_07That'll be on Friday at 7 o'clock if we win. On Wednesday, which we will.
SPEAKER_03First pitch. Head sharply to Beck at second again. Let's see how this throw looks. Uh, that one's low.
SPEAKER_07But it's there. He's just trying to give Caleb a little workout over there. Stretch him out after pitching the other night.
SPEAKER_03Give him some calos calisthenics there.
SPEAKER_07Boy, Beck looks sharp over there at second, doesn't he, Mike? He really does. Yeah, looks very smooth.
SPEAKER_03That brings Null to the plate. And yeah, the uh Healing Boys and Girls Soccer team are both having great seasons and both getting ready to gear up for state tournament runs.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, Pat Herbst has just done a wonderful job, obviously, with that boys uh program, uh state runners up uh uh last year, state champions the year before.
SPEAKER_03That ball's fouled off for strike one, one ball, one strike. We're gonna try to get both those uh both Pat Herbst and Sean Mansfield on as as pregame guests next week so they can talk a little bit about their season and and what's expected. And yeah, with you've got a grandson playing and and I've driven the girls' soccer team forever. Uh you and I might miss a game or two when they get to the state tournament. But I hope Tim Swadin's gonna fill in and he'll do an admirable job, and uh you guys won't have to listen to us all the time.
SPEAKER_07I listened to Tim last year, he did a great job, so there's no question. Knows baseball very well.
SPEAKER_03Two and one to null is the count. That pitch on the outside corner for strike two, two balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_07You know, I think going into this game, Mike, I think if if Caleb uh or Jacob Wesselman, I think if he knew he was gonna get five innings out of Aiden, I think he'd have been Just tickled pink.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, definitely. Yeah, you have to be with, like you said, a young kid coming in, and you know what he can do, but it's different whenever you're in a varsity game and you you're hitting batters, you know, throwing to batters you've never seen before, and he's handled it really well.
SPEAKER_07That pitch just high for ball four. Just missed. Even when he's missing, like I said earlier, even when he's missing, he's right around the plate, so it's a good sign. Let's not mess around and get this third out here.
SPEAKER_03That'll bring up the first baseman Mergan. Runner at first, two outs. Healing leads two to one. We're in the top of the fifth inning. First pitch by LeFavre. Breaks across the plate for a strike. No balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, that's that swooping curve I was talking about. A lot of times he'll either come back with that inside fastball or he'll sweep that uh that breaker right back in again.
SPEAKER_03Lafavre throws to LeFavre to keep the runner close. And he seems to know right where to throw it. Yeah. Caleb didn't have to reach up high or go down low. It was it was right where it needed to be.
SPEAKER_07My guess is they played a little catch together.
SPEAKER_03Just a little pitch, runner goes from first. Ball fouled off.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. I don't think the home plate umpire saw it right away. Good job on the umpire in the field. He saw that right off the bat. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So Noel will go back to first base.
SPEAKER_07I gotta I gotta give a shout out to these guys. These two umps have just done an absolute wonderful job. And uh being a former ump, I I know, I know how hard it is sometimes uh to get in that zone, and and these two are just just doing a just an outstanding job.
SPEAKER_03Lefaver looks in, comes set. Here's the pitch. Ball fouled off down the first baseline. Caleb gives chase. Where'd you park today, John?
SPEAKER_07I did not park over on the on the first baseline. That's good. It's right about where you're parked.
SPEAKER_03It bounced and hit the side of that pickup. I'm right in front of you today, Mike. Where you were the other day. So uh count remains, no balls, two strikes. Lefaver looks in. Here's the pitch. Ball fouled off.
SPEAKER_07And that got a piece of Payton. Yeah, give him a little time here. The umpire knows right away. That's there's an experienced umpire. He's walking out to the pitcher and letting the kid letting the catcher shake it off. He knows. Oh boy, I'm trying to see where he got hit. Yeah, Coach Wesselman come out to make sure he's okay. I'm sure Peyton appreciates it, but at the same time, he's like, don't embarrass me, Coach.
SPEAKER_03I'm fine. I'm a tough kid. You don't need to come out and make sure I'm okay. That's like my mom coming out and making sure I'm okay. Yeah. Speaking of, Peyton's mom does the cooking here at the ballpark for these baseball games, and she does a phenomenal job with the burgers and hot dogs. Yep, give her some business. That pitch breaks in there a little high for ball one, one ball, two strikes.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I went up to her and introduced myself uh in between games and you know, told her how much I've enjoyed watching her boys catch, being a former catcher. Yeah, it just it's really nice seeing seeing them behind the dish.
SPEAKER_03Aiden, here's the pitch. Runner takes off from first, that hits him. Hit sound like it hit him in the helmet, John.
SPEAKER_07It did. It hit him, you know, Mike, that this is one of those ones where where the batters, and and I think Jacob's coming out to settle down Aiden, but the batters w when he's hugging the line like that, he almost dipped into the plate. So did Aiden miss that bat or or did that batter, you know, dip his dip his head over the plate? And I it almost looked like he did that, because I didn't think it was that bad of a pitch.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I think it's I think that it's the way he, I guess if you want to call it, tried to get out of it out of the out from in front of the pitch and just kind of leaned into it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_07Good job by Coach Wesselman coming out, settling down your young pitcher. You got two outs here. Let's let's get some strikes and put the ball in play.
SPEAKER_03So you got runners at first and second. Two outs, Anderson up, Helen leads two to one.
SPEAKER_07Faber looks back at second, steps off. Nice. A little unsure of the signal there. Peyton's going over the signals.
SPEAKER_03Here's a pitch. Ball's popped up. No one's gonna get to that one. No. And man, that silver truck. Whoever's it is, they need to go move it because it almost got hit again. No ball's one strike to count. Null at second, Mergen at first. Healing leads two to one. Comes to the plate. Nice. Swing and a miss for strike two.
SPEAKER_07Beautiful fastball in the outside corner, Mike. Set him up perfect with that first pitch. That first pitch came in the inside corner with that curveball, and then Peyton set him up just perfect on the outside corner. All right, he's he's up on him now. Yep, that's exactly what he's gonna ball lined back up the middle.
SPEAKER_03We gotta play it home. Carroll feels it. Throw home, a little high. Yep. Null scores from second to make the score two to two.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, Peyton wanted him to waste that pitch and pitched that thing, and it went right down the middle. Um, I'm sure Peyton will have a little conversation with him.
SPEAKER_03Murgan stops at second on that. Anderson at first with a single brings up Townsend. Scores now two to two, top of the fifth. Two men on for the Yellow Jackets with two outs.
SPEAKER_07Here we go. Let's come back. You gotta forget about that, shake it off, and come right back at him.
SPEAKER_03Gets back on the rubber, steps off again. There's yeah, there's some signal issues here that they're trying to get straightened out.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I think on that last battery I I saw Peyton lift his glove really high, wanted him to waste it up high, and and uh you know what? That's that's something they'll talk about in between innings. Um good job by Peyton going out, calming him down. So let's get this guy.
SPEAKER_03Pitch outside for ball one.
SPEAKER_07I don't mind that pitch. That's uh that's a nice curve ball just missed on the outside corner. You know, come back with it again.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Anderson uh is really active in the batter's box. Uh someone just texted me, he said he's got moves like Michael Jackson. He does not stand still, that's for sure.
SPEAKER_07He's jittery. He's jittery. It's okay.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_07Aiden faked like he was gonna go back to second base, step off the plate. I just forget about him a little bit here. Now let's go after the batter.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, situations like this, it I think just focus on the batter. A little dribbler foul.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, good job by Peyton getting there and tapping it. But this glower.
SPEAKER_03Anderson rushes down to make sure it stays foul. Yep. Got one ball, one strike on Anderson. Again, you've got Mergen at second. Anderson at first.
SPEAKER_07I don't think Murgan has is the fastest guy in the world. You know, so if the ball does get through the infield, we get you know, we'll definitely have a play at home.
SPEAKER_03Favor comes to the plate. Pitch outside for ball two, two balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, and they're really chirping over there, trying to get under the young man's nerves. You can hear those the players from the first base dugout really, really getting on him. Yeah, they're letting they're letting him hear it, that's for sure. Yeah, they're chirping. Let's see how he handles it.
SPEAKER_03Here's the pitch. That ball is hit out to Tommy Carroll in left field. He settles under it, makes the catch. Camping underneath it.
SPEAKER_07For the third out. Good job, young man. Good job.
SPEAKER_03Thomas Jefferson is able to score a run. Tie the score at 2-2, heading to the bottom of the fifth. We'll be back in 30 seconds.

SPEAKER_20And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_07Just a wonderful job of uh of Aiden getting out of that any noon, don't you think, Mike?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he did a great job. He uh you could tell that uh he got a little unsettled there for a brief time, and coach went out and talked to him, and uh he was able to settle back in and uh work his way out of that, keep the score at two to two. Healan will send Hope, Erickson, and Caleb Lefaver to the mound to start the fifth inning here.
SPEAKER_07Well, that sounds like a run to me. Sounds like at least one. Yeah. When JJ gets on, it you you know, you're all it's almost an automatic double. Uh he's gonna get to second. And and and who knows, uh, maybe even third, uh, the way he's been getting jumps when he gets on base.
SPEAKER_06Here we go.
SPEAKER_03JJ steps in. First pitch. That's he bunts it down the first baseline. No one they're not gonna get him. No, ball gets away from the first baseman. JJ's head into second. Is he just gonna keep nope? He decided let's hold up on that one. Nice bunt down that first baseline.
SPEAKER_07Paint that pitch. You know, not he he pushed that bunt, it was a push bunt down the first base, and and he had it beat out. There was no way they were gonna get him. But there's a perfect example that that right fielder was just standing there. He should have been backing up first. I mean, he just gave that uh that second base to JJ. There was nobody backing him up at first base.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's very true. Brings Erickson to the plate. Erickson had a double his first time up and flew out to the left fielder his second time.
SPEAKER_07I'll tell you what, tell you what, Mike, I I I mean, I almost wouldn't mind butting him over to third base. I was just thinking that myself. You know he can get there. Yep.
SPEAKER_03Oh, he's gone. JJ takes off. Yeah, he's in there easily. JJ gets a stolen base, puts himself in scoring position down at third. Huge jump, huge jump. That pitch was a ball, two balls, no strikes to Erickson.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, it wasn't wasn't a bad throw by the third baseman, but he didn't have a chance at him.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Infield comes in. By the catcher, excuse me. Hoping to cut that runoff at the plate. Ball bounces away, ball three, three balls, no strikes. And I'll get it out of the way quickly. Erickson gets on, Heaton will be in for pinch running. Yes, he will. That way I don't miss him. I missed him one time.
SPEAKER_07You know, um, we're gonna be seeing pitch. We're gonna be saying Heaton's name a lot this year.
SPEAKER_03I think I think so. Erickson's gonna get on a lot. And uh so three balls, one strike, runner at third base, two to two. Healing and Thomas Jefferson here in the there we go.
SPEAKER_07He walked him. And now the uh now now our guys are chirping a little bit. So I mean, all's fair and love and war, right, Mike?
SPEAKER_03They're they're getting their uh they're getting their turns in. So Erickson walks, puts runners at first and second, no outs. I gotta get better at this scorebook, John. I keep putting it in the wrong spots, but I'm learning. Caleb will favor steps in on from the left side of the plate.
SPEAKER_07Not the guy you want to see with guys in scoring position.
SPEAKER_03And Kathy is here, she's gonna get a picture from behind home plate.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, Caleb puts the ball in play. Probably as well as anybody, and and that's really all you're looking for here. Put the ball in play. They aren't gonna get JJ at home. So anything on the ground or high in the air in the outfield.
SPEAKER_03And speaking of the favors, today is Jeff LaFavre's birthday. Oh man. I want to wish him a happy birthday, and what better present than to come out and watch both your sons play some high school baseball together.
SPEAKER_07Jeff does just a wonderful job with our youth and with our young young uh players at that 7-1-2 um organization that he runs.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I know uh Jeff Blander, who was on with us before the first game, he's he's uh been involved in that 7-1-2 working with uh LaFavre. So uh he's really enjoyed it and is a good good program. Three balls, no strikes to Caleb. I think his mom's gonna get the video a walk. Oh! He ripped that down right outside the first base. He turned on it. I was just gonna say, I think his mom's gonna get the video a walk.
SPEAKER_07I think Turning's an understatement on that thing. He might have thrown his hip out. He swung so hard.
SPEAKER_03You you and I would have turned thrown our hip out, that's for sure.
SPEAKER_07Well, mine are already gone, so I don't know if I can do it again.
SPEAKER_03Okay, he oh wow he ripped that line drive to the first baseman. First baseman steps on the bag to double up Heaton, but what a rocket.
SPEAKER_07That was an absolute rocket. Just right to the first baseman and step back on first base. Yeah. Not much you can do about that. No, that'll bring Schaehn to the plate. You know, he's been getting an this guy's been painting the outside corner on the first pitch every at bat. And if I was him, I'd be looking for that.
SPEAKER_03Pitch drops in there on the inside for ball for strike. No balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_07I was wrong. He went inside on him on that one. I I thought for sure he'd go outside with him the way he's been pulling the ball.
SPEAKER_03Bounces in there for a ball. Ball one, one ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_07I have a feeling he's gonna rip this thing right between third and short, Mike.
SPEAKER_03He hasn't shown us yet that he'll go the opposite way, so I'm gonna guess that if it's going anywhere, it's going that direction. Here's the pitch. It's a little up. Yeah. Pitch was high for ball two. Two balls, one strike. Two outs, two to two. Healan and Thomas Jefferson here in the bottom of the fifth inning.
SPEAKER_07Good chance. Manufacture run here. Let's get it, let's get it done. Let's give the young man a little run support. Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_03Bounces in there for ball three.
SPEAKER_07Three balls, one strike. Nice block by the catcher. Great job. That's why you get down on those two on those two knees and get that get that put and your and your uh your elbows out in front of you. It's perfect job on a block.
SPEAKER_03Pitch. Pitch high, way outside for ball four. Put Shaner on first base, brings up Carroll.
SPEAKER_07I think they uh they they wanted to see the young freshman instead of uh instead of Shayner. So here's a chance for Tommy to do some damage.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Got JJ Hope standing down there at third base.
SPEAKER_07Base hit or a pass ball would be nice. Shout out to his grandpa, got a chance to talk to Doc Carroll there between games.
SPEAKER_03There we go. Tom fouls that first pitch off for down the third baseline. No balls, one strike. Shayner at first, hope at third.
SPEAKER_06Oh, I just just missed it.
SPEAKER_03Tommy cues that down the first baseline, first baseman picks it up. That's exactly what it was. A cue ball down first base. Just missed it. For the third out, we'll go to the top of the sixth inning, tied two to two. I forgot to say we'll be back, so hopefully.
SPEAKER_20And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_03We are back, headed to the top of the sixth inning. It's Healan two and the Yellow Jackets two.
SPEAKER_07What about the confidence uh Coach Wesselman has in the young young eighth graders? Let them go in here into the sixth inning when um that just I'll tell you what, if you're a pitcher, or if you're any player, and your coach gives you this kind of confidence, I mean that that what's that say? It just that just sends a huge message. And and if I was Aiden, I'd just be I'd just be fired up. My coach says, get back out there, young man. Let's go at it again.
SPEAKER_03He's showing him, he's obviously shown him in the offseason what he can do. And uh here in the sixth inning, the Yellow Jackets will send the six, seven, and eight hitters to the plate, Norton, Grant, and Persinger. Norton flew out to left field and walked his last time up, scored the first run for the Yellow Jackets. Grant struck out looking his first time up and doubled his last plate appearance. And Persinger got on by an error and grounded out first to third, his last time up. Here's the first pitch.
SPEAKER_07Nice pitch inside corner.
SPEAKER_03Fouled right back at us for strike one.
SPEAKER_07A look up on the left field line there, Mike, and uh it's funny that uh everybody's got their blankets and coats on, and uh what a different scene we'll be seeing here in a couple weeks.
SPEAKER_03Absolutely. You and I are comfortable up here in the balmy uh press box. It's probably about 70 degrees in here. Yeah, it definitely is. One and one the count. Dylan's under that. Fly ball, Dylan Knapp settles under it out in center field for the first out. That will bring Grant to the plate.
SPEAKER_07You know, you love it as a pitcher. You get you know, you can get in get in and out of an inning with you know under ten pitches. You know, we got you got this guy on his on one, maybe two. Here's the first pitch.
SPEAKER_03Little high for ball one, one ball, no strikes.
SPEAKER_07This kid's been a tough out, I'm telling you. He ripped it down third baseline.
SPEAKER_03Pitch outside for ball two, two balls, no strikes. Like to thank Tri-State Dental Care and Vance Thompson Vision uh for their support as well as Wall of Fame graphics.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, don't let his height uh mislead you. He's no bigger than a minute, but he's got a he's got a sweet swing.
SPEAKER_03That pitch outside for ball three, three balls, no strikes. One out here in the top of the sixth, score tied two to two. Here's the pitch. And it's high for ball four.
SPEAKER_06I don't know about that one, but that's all right. A little high. I forget he's not very tall.
SPEAKER_03So Grant trots down to first base, brings up Persinger. Also like to thank Wilma's Do It Best Hardware in Sioux City and South Sioux City, Nebraska, as well as Rin's Plumbing. uh for all they do for Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_07It's uh got a force out at second, so let's get a ground ball out of him.
SPEAKER_03Nice pitch. That's on the outside corner for strike one. No balls one strike. Yeah you have to wonder if Grant's not going to take off here soon just to try to get I wish we were on TV and just show the difference in height between Caleb and Grant out there. It's got to be two feet. Yeah he is not very big. He's tall. He's he comes to his right shoulder yep. Right at the shop and that's with the helmet on he's at his shoulder so one ball one strike to Persinger that ball hit out to Dillon in center field. He takes a couple steps back and makes the catch. Beautiful didn't even have to move just right to him. Dillon a little busy this inning with being involved in the first two outs that brings Jager to the plate the designated hitter he rounded out second to uh first his last time upon he's gonna work him on the outside corner set up perfectly out there nice pitch you're not gonna touch that pitch in there for a strike yeah even if he's set up too far outside if you hit it and the catcher doesn't have to move you're gonna get that call. Now Peyton's going out there again he's gonna here's the next pitch swung on fouled off and whoever was driving that silver truck did move it.
SPEAKER_04No balls two strikes kid 0-2 he's he's coming outside with him again let's see what ball hit sharply foul down the first baseline that's right where Peyton was set up set up on that outside corner you know and and you got a pitch to waste here I'm not I wouldn't be surprised to see him come up in on come up in on the wrist a little bit and let's see what uh Peyton does here no balls two strikes to count grant at first two out score tied two to two got a lot of twos here yep good morning good afternoon and good night he caught him looking up for strike three inside curve ball right at the wrist perfect pitch perfect way to go young man that will take us to the bottom of the sixth with the score tied two to two we'll be back in 30 seconds hello I'm Brian Coyle market president from Liberty National Bank as the seasons change it's the perfect time to fall in love with your financial security why not take a moment to review your financial goals our team is here to meet all of your financial needs come see us today at our Sioux City Dakota Dunes North Sioux City and Elk Point locations or you can always visit us online at Libertynational bank at Liberty National Bank we believe in you member FDIC and the community and now back to your Crusader sports on your Catholic radio station we are back as we head to the bottom of the sixth inning healing will be sending Gaswent, Arod and Chase Beck to the plate to try to get a run and give Lefaver and this pitching staff a lead going into the seventh inning.
SPEAKER_07It'd be nice to to manufacture a couple runs and and uh and give Aiden just a just a little room to breathe and I kind of like to see uh what Aiden can do see how far he goes obviously and and uh wouldn't mind seeing uh Rodriguez come in if they ever bring him in uh to close the game well Nathan has hit the ball hard tonight so let's uh let's see if we can hit it if he can hit it where someone isn't this time. First pitch way outside for ball one one ball no strikes I think that's the first time he's had the first pitch not called a strike so let's see what happens here.
SPEAKER_03Pitcher doing his wind up Nathan grounds that sharply to shortstop first baseman scoops that out he's hitting it solid he's right on it he's just hitting it right where they are so uh hopefully that builds a little bit of confidence in his mind that'll bring Arod to the plate Alex Rodriguez steps in he walked and singled his first two times up scored the first healing run that pitch was way outside for ball one one ball no strikes a good eye it's the pitcher I mean you know he's just like Aiden he's right around the plate he doesn't miss by much that ball bounces in there for ball two balls no strikes and you love that I mean as a hitter you love that you know he's gonna be around the plate so he's gonna give you something good to swing at there's the next pitch that ball is way outside for ball three three balls no strikes Beck would be next up ball on the outside corner for strike one three balls one strike score tied two to two bottom of the sixth inning he's got to come two more times pitch high and outside for ball four let's do something with it we got a guy on first here let's do something with it got Beck who had that triple the first time up and then popped out to the shortstop his last time up Chase scored healing second run oh just big cut there swing and a miss for strike one no balls one strike boy he's lucky he didn't tag on that one that I'm I'm assuming that's not where he wanted that pitch to go because that was right down the two Rodriguez leads off first base ball bounces in low ball one one ball one strike catcher does a really nice job blocking the ball Rodriguez with a short lead over there oh pitch dropped in there for a strike one ball two strikes that was a looper man that was a looper it was it it was high before it crossed the plate it it dropped down to to get into that strike zone it really did it really did but you know what I that's that's a high school strike no question yeah here's the pitch swing and a miss for strike three yeah let's see what we can do with two that's out number two brings Dylan Knapp to the plate this is where we did a lot of damage uh against Lamar's in that second game was with two outs so got a guy on let's let's do something with it I mean we got Dylan Knapp we got uh you're back to the top of the order here yeah Dylan will be followed by JJ Hope should he get on throwback to first gets away go go go Rodriguez takes off down to second so Rodriguez fances to second puts himself in scoring position here we go I mean this is exactly what you want you got a guy out there you know and and uh and Dylan knows how that is when he was pitching I'm sure you know I mean he wanted a little breeding room so let's give your uh your your counterpart here let's give him a a little breeding room want to remind everyone we will be back on the air tomorrow at 5 45 pregame uh six o'clock first pitch as healing takes on Harlan that's always a big uh you know big game that'll be a really really good test for the Crusaders pitch to Dillon outside for ball one yeah they just they always have an outstanding baseball team you know amongst other things football etc one ball no strikes Rodriguez at second first baseman over keeping him honest yeah pitcher looks back comes home yeah pitches high for ball two balls no strikes good patience by Dillon up there well and with that the pitcher looked at second and then never settled himself he just looked at second and turned his head and threw home yeah he's throwing a lot of pitches uh he's got to be I'm guessing he's getting up there he's got to be close to close to the limit that ball bounces in there to Dillon for ball three three balls no strikes he he isn't afraid to get out there and get a lead is he Mike no he's he is he's a good seven or eight steps on second base that pitch way outside for ball four knapp draws the walk puts runners at first and second with two outs or yes two outs yep all right jj here we go score tied two to two JJ of course had that beautiful bunt the last time up yeah it's Rodriguez just begging him look at he just begging him to come back at him pitcher comes set looks back bounces in there gets away from the catcher they're gonna have a play oh he's the catcher throws it away down to third Rodriguez is going to score from second left fielder bobbles the ball knapp goes to third great piece of running by both Rodriguez and Knapp on on that you know things happen Mike when you make somebody make a play this is what happens especially in high school ball catcher you can see he's dejected he feels bad about what he did but I he was he was trying to make a play ball bounced away from a little bit and Rodriguez took off a good throw would have had him but fortunately for the Crusaders they now have the lead three to two that pitch is ball two but two balls no strikes nap at third base you can see that coming though Rodriguez was not going to not come on anything you're either going to throw me out or I'm gonna be safe because I'm not stopping and then and and Dylan what a smart play I mean he saw that left fielder bobble the ball and and with his wheels he was over at third in hurry three balls no strikes that pitch on the outside corner for strike one three balls one strike.
SPEAKER_07Let's bring him in nap at third two outs healing leads three to two bottom of the sixth inning here's the pitch high for ball four well we all know what's about to happen so we don't even need to say it boy this f I'll tell you what Mike this first pitch you know he's he he's well he's out there I don't know what's going on with him he's he's either mad at himself or his arm hurts I can't tell yeah yeah here comes the coach so or you know what did he hit his pitch count might have been so null is gonna head out to center field and looks like Persinger the center fielder is going to come in to pitch.
SPEAKER_03So we've got a change in pitchers let's take a one minute timeout and we will be back to Crusader baseball.

We're proud to be rooted in your community offering modern banking tools with a hometown feel visit www.mycentral.bank or stop by your local branch central bank member FDIC Equal Housing lender and now back to your Crusader sports on your Catholic radio station we are back as the pitcher finishes his warm-up tosses healing now has the lead three to two knap at third hope at first and Erickson steps to the plate good job by noel from TJ you could tell he didn't want to he did not want to come out pitching and I'm sure he's uh he's kicking himself for throwing that ball in the dirt but just a a nice job by him keeping the the Healing hitters at bay yeah he did he did a really good job I mean uh you know first game was 10 to nothing this and two to two until this inning so and you know TJ's not out of it.
SPEAKER_07I mean it's no uh healing could really use an insurance run here and make it four to two yeah we have an opportunity here with with the kind of speed we have on the base pales right now like you said Mike uh there's probably no question he's gonna be at second base and uh the question is do you do you hit and run this first pitch? Because uh I have a feeling he's gonna dial something right down the middle.
SPEAKER_03Yeah he's he struggled a little bit with his warm-up pitcher so we'll see if he can even get it across the plate but there goes JJ pitcher hadn't even started his motion yet and JJ was taken out to second base so got runners at second and third that pitch was well behind Erickson's head for ball one one ball no strikes there's the pitch outside corner for strike one one ball one strike boy he just looks like he's throwing batting practice yeah that's uh if he had a net in front of him it would look like batting practice healing leads three to two bottom of the sixth inning boom Erickson turned on that if that stays fair oh just foul he really put the charge in that one one ball two strikes he'd like to have about three feet back on that he did yeah just missed it he just missed it to the uh on the left of the uh of the foul pole one ball two strikes runners at second and third two outs healing leads three to two in the bottom of the sixth and you got Lefav on deck and you don't want bases loaded with Lefavra up pitch way outside for ball two two balls two strikes he almost I'll tell you what he he almost was throwing like the uh first pitcher uh in the first game only coming from the right side yeah kind of a shot put motion here's the pitch that ball bounces up there for ball three three balls two strikes yeah here we go he's in some dangerous territory here we might get our wish and he'll get his nightmare if LeFavor comes up with the bases loaded wind up in the pitch just missed on that outside corner but it was high for ball four bases loaded two outs healing leads three to two Caleb LeFavre steps to the plate yeah Caleb's uh and I'm I'm sure Caleb got a good look at him while he's there in the in the uh batter's in the on deck circle yeah Caleb licking his chops getting a nice cut in here first pitch to the favor is geez hit right sharply back up the middle off the pitcher's glove bounces right to the second baseman for the out he roped that thing that if that doesn't hit the first pitcher's glove and I think it hit it on the bounce didn't it yeah I think that thing's through and we score two runs that's just just an unlucky unlucky hit there. That's your number normal one four to three put out yeah yeah so we'll head to the top of the seventh inning score is three to two bishop healing leads we'll be back in 30 seconds.
SPEAKER_23At Mills John Pitsen Associates we understand that one size does not fit all when it comes to insurance which is why every client gets our undivided attention we recognize that everyone encounters challenges along the way and we strive to anticipate those situations as they occur. SPEAKER_03And now back to your crusader report on your Catholic radio 21 for healing 21 for Healing is uh Hendrik Keaton Hendrik Teaton we are back for the top of the seventh inning healan and council bless Thomas Jefferson Healan leads three to two during the break we have a pitching change JJ Hope moves from shortstop to pitcher chase beck moves from second to shortstop and we can't call him a pinch runner anymore because Hendricks Heaton is out there at second base. Second base all right so we'll see what JJ's got here see if he can finish this off and and give healing a 3-2 victory shout out to uh young man Aiden Lefaver what a great first outing six innings pitched I don't think he even came close to his pitch count Mike no I don't think he did either had probably five six strikeouts just did a really good job got into a couple tough situations was able to settle himself down and let's see if if JJ can get the save and get little of favor that first win tough part is TJ brings the top of their order to the plate it'll be Garrison Null and Mergan.
SPEAKER_07Yeah Garrison he's tough out to face hope I know we've talked about that before but yeah he's he's just a solid solid leadoff hitter.
SPEAKER_03He makes you pitch struck out the first time grounded out third to first and the and the third and second to first and the fifth so uh he's he's made contact two of the three times he's been up there.
SPEAKER_07Here's the first pitch by JJ a little outside for ball one JJ brings it a little bit harder obviously than Aiden. Yeah so uh this could be interesting yeah one ball no strikes to count to Garrison see if they can catch up with it.
SPEAKER_03That pitch right on that outside corner for a strike one ball one strike he doesn't waste a whole lot of time between pitches either so no it is starting to get a little dark here so we need to get this finished so we don't have to try to make up the rest of it at another point.
SPEAKER_07Yeah Peyton's coming in on this one yep ball fouled into the front yards across the street for strike two one ball two strikes yeah they're setting him up perfectly they went outside outside inside and uh let's see I'm assuming Peyton's coming back outside with this nope nope he's going in here's the pitch that's on that outside corner cut looking for strike three it's the first out I don't think that's where Peyton wanted it but you know what we'll take it Mike strike up he was set up inside and and uh a good job by the umpire the umpire didn't move over with him so he could see that outside corner so I'm gonna give that one to the ump on that here's hope's first pitch to null on that outside corner for strike one no balls one strike one out healing leads here in the top of the seventh three to two yeah he's he's dialing right now he's dialing second pitch foul down the third baseline out of play for strike two no balls two strikes JJ's just coming right after him he's saying here here it is I'm just I'm just gonna overpower you right now yep that's a that's exactly what's going on right now he steps off well you know we you and I had questions and I
SPEAKER_03I'm sure the coaches did too about the pitchers behind number one and two. I think the questions have been answered. I think I think they're in good shape. No question. Swing and a miss. Good morning, good afternoon, and good night. That's strikeout number two for JJ Hope. Two batters, two strikeouts.
SPEAKER_07That brings Mergen to the plate. Great inside outside with Peyton and JJ. You know, I mean, it's just pitcher perfect if you're a pitcher catcher. How to work the inside and then and then just finish them outside.
SPEAKER_03First pitch to Mergen.
SPEAKER_07Get over there.
SPEAKER_03Hit to Lefaver, tosses it to Hope for the third out.
SPEAKER_07What a great job.
SPEAKER_03Three outs. Healing wins this one three to two. We'll take a two-minute break and we'll be back to wrap things up.

SPEAKER_20And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_03Well, John, another great night at the ballpark. We ordered up broom service and we got it. Uh sweep of healing over Council Bluff's Thomas Jefferson, 10-0 in the first game in five innings and three to two in the second. A lot more competitive, obviously, in that second game. But uh what things stand out to you uh game one, game two?
SPEAKER_07Well what stood out to me, Mike, was before the game, before the doubleheader, I had a chance to talk to Coach Wesselman, and he talked about uh some of the strengths of the team and and some of the unknowns. And some of the unknowns obviously were how these two pitchers today were gonna handle the pressure and how they were gonna handle their you know, for the eighth grader for for Aiden, his first varsity experience. And I think, like I said, like you and I were talking in between during the commercials, I think those questions were answered today. They competed, they threw strikes. Our defense is solid. And if y you know, if if they hit the ball, I I'm not afraid our guys aren't gonna make the play, they make the play. So I think coach has got to feel good about that. Um I'm sure some of the things he's gonna want to work on uh in between now and and even tomorrow are uh be a little more patient at the plate when you got somebody that's throwing a little bit uh with less velocity. And and and and and Ben talked about that, Coach Taylor in the middle in between the games, about you know, being a little more patient. Um but Coach Wesselman uh having the confidence uh with this young man, uh Aiden uh Lefavre and and letting him go six, six plus uh, you know, well, six innings, went solid six innings. Um that just tells you, you know, uh what kind of a coach he is and what kind of coach he's gonna be.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I think uh these first four games uh say a lot about what uh Healand fans have to look forward to and what you and I have to look forward to this season with Healand baseball. Again, we will be on tomorrow at 5 45 with the pregame, first pitch at 6 o'clock as Healing takes on Harlan. Uh we are gonna wrap this up tonight.
SPEAKER_07But we were hoping the coach would be able to come up right after the game, but looks like he's out there talking to the team. So uh maybe uh maybe the next game we can get Coach Wesselman up here.
SPEAKER_03Maybe we can catch him. It's tough. He's he's all the things he's got running through his mind, he wants to get out before he forgets about them. So uh we we appreciate the two assistant coaches coming up. Uh appreciate Brad and Heather G Heather Gaswent uh helping us out with some interviews, and we are gonna get some sleep and come back tomorrow for some healing baseball.
SPEAKER_07Enjoy working the game with you, Mike, and thank you to Catholic Radio for letting us have this opportunity to do so.
SPEAKER_03Yes, thanks Tim and Ann and everybody at Catholic Radio on the board for letting John and I do this. Uh it's been fun and uh we're continuing to grow. I think we did much better tonight than we did Tuesday, and uh they better watch out by the end of the season.
SPEAKER_07I gotta give one last shout out before we go. My wife Lisa and daughter Rachel, they're they're up at the soccer scrimmage in Haywardon, so uh shout out to them as they're driving back and forth.
SPEAKER_03Awesome, awesome. We will talk to everybody tomorrow. Uh have a great night and go, Crusaders.
