SPEAKER_15

Happy Memorial Day to everyone out there. I'm Mike Skaggs, joined by John Tritz here at Dutch Field up in Orange City, Iowa. John, how was your day?

SPEAKER_17

Great day. What a beautiful day for a baseball game and what a much anticipated baseball game it is, Mike.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, it is. Matchup between the number one team and the number three team in the state. Gonna have a couple good pitchers going tonight. A lot of excitement around this game. It's really starting to fill in as far as the fans go.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, I had a chance uh earlier to talk to the head coach of MOC, uh Floyd Valley, Coach McCarty. Um talk to him a little bit about this game. This is their opener as they had their first two double headers rained out last week. And he's got a couple good ones that are going to be on the mound. And uh, you know, a gentleman uh by the name of Henry uh Heller, he'll be kind of coming in second, but the main guy, Brooks McCarty, uh, who will be heading to Iowa and being a teammate of uh Caleb Flavors uh next year. And Coach Heller's excited to see what those two can do on the mound. They'll probably be splitting the duties with McCarty going first and Heller going second. Um Coach McCarty, as some of you probably recognize that name, uh Matt McCarty is the head football coach also at Northwestern University. Just over just over the road here, and obviously he's done a wonderful job there. And and just like he said, he's a baseball player who happens to be coaching football.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, absolutely. He's got a great AD that lets him do all kinds of stuff, so uh works out well. We're joined by his AD up here in the press box, so we've got to talk good about him as much as we can.

SPEAKER_17

Yep, Coach Alders, the defensive coordinator uh on the football team here. Um I did Coach McCarty uh in going over the game tonight, he knows he's gonna be facing a good one uh from healing. And like he said in this first uh in this first game, he's got six kids that are coming back. He's got a veteran, six kids that are coming back, but he's got four kids that haven't seen much playing time. And and so what he'd like to see obviously is really good at bats against Gaswin, who'll be going for healing tonight. And you know, and then just good pitching from their side, limit our base runners. Uh and then, of course, one of the unknowns um will be uh their young kitcher, the young catcher who hasn't caught a varsity game, and how he's gonna be able to handle these uh these two veteran pitchers that they have.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, he feels confident. Uh he said he's gotten better as the as the early season has gone on, so uh he thinks he'll be effective and do a good job.

SPEAKER_17

Also, um he kind of thought that McCarty and Heller would both throw about 60 to 70 tonight, you know, depending on the situation of the game, you know, and doesn't want to overthrow either one of those guys. Uh want to get this out of the way a little bit too. They're playing a sophomore catcher tonight, and the varsity catcher that they had, uh like to just kind of say a shout out and keep our prayers with the family. It was one of the Cope kids that was lost his life in that tragic accident over there in uh Alton this past winter. So our prayers go out to the Cope family. There's a lot of Cope ties to the Bishop Healing community. Um, so we both feel that, and our prayers out to them.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, absolutely. It uh stretches a long way. We're gonna take a two-minute break and be back with a special interview.

SPEAKER_10

Hello, listeners. I am Father Travis Roddy with the Traveler Catholic.

SPEAKER_13

And now back to your Crusader sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_15

Welcome back, everyone, to Dutch Field. We've got a special pregame guest. Mary Kate Blander is here to visit with us a little bit. She's got a special place in my heart. She's my youngest daughter. I always get yelled at because I don't mention that, so I gotta get that out of the way quickly. Mary Kate, tell us about uh your involvement with Healing and in school and outside of school.

SPEAKER_07

Hi, Dad. Um, I work at Bishop Healan in the counseling office. I address the social emotional needs of the students, but uh I'm honestly, you know, we're at a baseball game. I'm kind of the utility player at Healing. I address all kinds of things. Like I'm mostly social emotional, but I'll help set up tutoring. I'll help kids cover their books, literally any question or anything they need at school, I'm there to help them. But then also my husband is an assistant coach for the baseball team, so I live at the baseball field in the summer.

SPEAKER_15

Yes, you do. And with your uh you're also coaching JV soccer.

SPEAKER_07

Yes.

SPEAKER_15

So with that schedule, you guys, this is about the only time you get a chance to see each other.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, pretty much. And our varsity squad is gearing up for our substate on June 2nd, so just trying to squeeze in some baseball games while I can.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah. Uh tell us a little bit about the impact that you see uh Bishop Healan and and the Catholic school system has on these student athletes that are uh in any sport, but you know, baseball is where we're at, so let's talk about that.

SPEAKER_07

Well, Healen truly is one of one. Um I really, with all bias aside, I mean I graduated from Healan, my whole family were Healan alum, but working in the building is so special to get to know these kids and to see them on a personal level, but then also outside of school on the baseball field, how they carry themselves, and you can see the values of Healing carry over, the hard work, the service. Um you can just see it how they play for each other, but then also how they carry themselves into any environment and any baseball field.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, it's a it's a great thing to see. They're they're positive role models in the community and at school. I know that uh you enjoy having them around, and and I noticed whenever we got here and the varsity team was walking by, they all had to say hi MK. Do they call you Mrs. Blander or is it Mary Kate? MK.

SPEAKER_07

No, if it's just Mary Kate, they'll have to say hi MK or hi Mary Kate. But yeah, I mean, working at Healing, all my students I I love them like they're my own. Um, but especially with my husband coaching them, the baseball kids have a special place in our heart.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, it's uh it's great to see, and uh I I can see the impact that not only you have on these kids, but these kids have on you, and uh appreciate all that you do at Healing and for the kids and for the school and and for the athletic program. It's great to have someone like you uh to ride up with John and I and keep us sane. And then uh keep you humble, really. Yeah, keep us humble. We're looking forward to uh following the girls as they uh start state uh June 2nd and win that one. They play June 4th, and if they win that one, they end up going to Ames, correct?

SPEAKER_07

Yep.

SPEAKER_15

All right. Well, Mary Kate, thanks for joining us. Uh we'll we'll talk some more on the way home. Yes, we will. We'll take a uh two-minute break and we'll be right back.

SPEAKER_13

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_15

Welcome back, everyone, to Dutch Field. We're going through the starting lineups here and getting ready for the National Anthem. So we'll get through that and then we'll get the game started. I'll have the heel and batting order for you after the national anthem. As you said, John, it's a great night for baseball. Sun's right in our eyes here, so hopefully we can we can still see what's going on.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, we got uh wind going on left left to right field about 10 miles an hour, Mike. Uh could play a little factor in tonight's game, but let's uh we got the national anthem playing here.

SPEAKER_15

Let's take a short break for the national anthem. Let's get to the heel and batting order. Leading off, playing shortstop, coming into this game with batting average of 455 is JJ Hope. Batting second with a batting average of 333, playing catcher is Peyton Erickson. Batting third and DH for Mason Moravic with batting average of 455 is Caleb Lefaver. Batting fourth is Brody Shaner, batting average of 385. He's playing third coming off that grand slam uh last week, John. Tommy Carroll is playing center field, batting average of 444. I'm sorry, he's playing right field. Nathan Gaswin is on the mound tonight. Nathan's got a 0.00 earned run average for the season. Aiden LeFavor batting seventh, playing first base. Chase Beck batting eighth, playing second base, and batting ninth for the Crusaders playing center field is Dylan Knapp. McCarty finishing his warm-up pitches here. He's throwing from the left side.

SPEAKER_17

Mike, let me give you the quick lineup for the MOC Dutch. Pitching is going to be Henry Henry Heller. Excuse me, center fielder Henry Heller will be leading off. Brooks McCarty will be pitching. He'll be batting second. Shortstop, Cole Pottebaum will be batting third. Left fielder Caleb Korselman will be batting fourth. First baseman Carter Van Gelder will be batting fifth. Sixth will be right fielder Thatcher Dugan. And batting seventh will be the DH Ryan Boone, who will be he'll be hitting for Lane Pottebaum, the catcher. Batting eighth is uh Parton Jaeger. He'll be at third base. And then rounding it out will be Abel Carrion will be batting ninth.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, last week on Thursday, Healing faced the lefty, but uh McCarty's got a little more velocity than the pitcher that they faced on Thursday night.

SPEAKER_17

Absolutely. And like I said, you know, we know a lot about McCarty. He's going to Iowa. Uh he'll be joining the favor there as a teammate, and I'm anxious to see it. The anticipation for this game has been huge, and you can just feel it in the air in the in the crowd out here in the left field under the trees. It just packed. So they obviously came out here to see this game.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the first pitch. Inside for a ball. Healing is wearing their blue tops with white numbers, gray pants with the blue stripe down the side, and JJ Hope, as we've commented before, he's got the old school stirrup, so that's fun to see.

SPEAKER_17

Absolutely. Ball two inside. Gotta say a quick shout out to JJ's grandma, Joanne. I know she's home watching this game, as she never misses, so hopefully we got something exciting for you.

SPEAKER_15

McCarty with the wind up, high and outside for ball three, three balls, no strikes. She just joined us. We're just getting started. 0-0, top of the first. JJ Hope, the first batter up. Four straight balls.

SPEAKER_17

Hope walks to lead the game off. Just a little up. Kind of kind of reminds me of uh Lefavre's first uh uh first at bat uh batter that he faced last week. Yep. You know, just a little bit up, hasn't come, you know, his follow-through isn't quite there yet, Mike.

SPEAKER_15

Peyton Erickson steps in. Hope with a sizable lead-off first base. Here's a pitch. That pitch on the outside corner for a strike, strike one.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, I'm sure McCarty's gonna want to go inside out with these guys, and with this inexperienced catcher, that's gonna be interesting to see how he adjusts.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, well, he's done a good job so far. Throw over to first, hope back safely. Hope kind of hesitated on that. Fortunately, he was able to get back in under the tag.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, situation baseball. This is what we're this is what it's all about. We're getting it right off the bat.

SPEAKER_15

Cardi with the windup. Here's pitch. That ball's inside, gets away from the catcher. Hope takes off to second. Man, he's in there. Stolen base for JJ. That's six for six on the season. Give a shout out to my brother-in-law John Bondrak, listening down in Austin, Texas. I'm trying to beat you for the farthest away, John.

SPEAKER_17

I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, Austin might be a little farther than Cincinnati. Just a little.

SPEAKER_15

One ball, one strike on Erickson. Hope with a good lead off second base. Swing and a miss by Peyton for strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Great cut. Right on it. You know, JJ just uh just capitalized on that. Just a little bobble from that catcher when he got down to second. And catcher actually had a good throw, but but JJ was there pretty easily.

SPEAKER_15

Erickson actually has three hits on the season, one single, two doubles. He's got three RBIs. Here's the pitch. That pitch is high, two balls, two strikes. So he's been able to make good contact. He commented after the first game last week that he needed to do a better job of putting the bat on the ball than he has since then.

SPEAKER_17

So like I said, Mike, we're in situation baseball here right now. This is this is where it's just this is just great right off the bat. You know, yeah the game within the game.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss.

SPEAKER_17

Good pitch by McCarty coming on the inside, on the inside half of that plate.

SPEAKER_15

That was. That uh might have been ball ball three, but uh Erickson offered at it, and that brings Caleb LeFavor to the plate. Hope at second with one out, no score.

SPEAKER_17

You know, a lot of these players, Mike, you know, they they play with each other during the offseason, and I know it's no no different here with LaFavor and McCarty and and and probably Erickson that they all play on the same club teams in the fall and spring.

SPEAKER_15

Oh, I'm I'm sure if they're not if they don't play together, they see each other quite a bit out on the trail there. That ball gets away from the catcher. Uh 1-0 count to LaFaver. Hope is able to get down to third easily.

SPEAKER_17

This is what we were talking about, Mike, the inexperience of the catcher and and uh how he was gonna be able to handle these two guys. So seeing a little bit of that right off the bat.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, we are. It's a long season, and he's gonna get better with every inning. So the catcher position is in good hands, I'm I'm sure, as the season goes on. Oh, yeah. Wind up and the pitch. LaFavre takes a swing at that. Swing and a miss. One ball, one strike. Just missed that.

SPEAKER_17

Beautiful, beautiful cut by LaFavre. He's right on it. Just uh just a hair, just a hair below it.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the wind up by McCarty and the pitch. Swing and a miss by Lefavre. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Anything here was gonna score hope. They're playing uh they're playing normal on the infield, so they're not up. So anything on the ground or in the air is gonna score JJ.

SPEAKER_15

That pitch on the outside corner for strike three. Caleb thought it was a little outside, but the umpire disagreed. Two down brings up Shaner, the third baseman. Hope still at third with two outs, no score.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, good job from Brooks going inside, inside, inside, and then popping that thing to the outside. I don't think the favorite was looking for that.

SPEAKER_15

No, if it fooled him. Here's the wind up by McCarty. That ball's inside. Ball one. As you can imagine, there's fans in purple that disagree with that, but it was high.

SPEAKER_17

Well, he's been swinging a good bat, so let's see. Let's let's see if that continues here.

SPEAKER_15

Give a shout out to Brody's grandma and grandpa. Grandpa just had open heart surgery. Grandma is not able to make it to the game, so they're listening on the radio, and uh I'm sure they're proud of their grandson after last week. All the time, but I'm sure especially after last week. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss by Schaehner.

SPEAKER_17

Just missed that. He just missed that. Kept his head in there, which was really good to see. He's right on it.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, two balls, one strike. Hope at third, two outs, no score. Tommy Carroll would be next up.

SPEAKER_17

What the umpire's doing there. Call the timeout.

SPEAKER_15

I think I think he thinks McCarty's moving a little faster than Shayner wants him to.

SPEAKER_17

That could be.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the pitch by McCarty. Hope steals home. Oh my gosh. Hope broke on the wind up and was able to steal home. What a play. Unbelievable. He almost beat the ball to the plate, folks.

SPEAKER_17

I'm telling you. And that's absolutely true. He was sliding into home as that ball went over his head. I think McCarty went back into the windup. I don't think he was on the stretch, Mike.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, I don't think he was. It's kind of a half wind up, half stretch the way he is right now. Here's the pitch. Ball's low, ball four. So two walks in the inning. Healing leads one to nothing. This brings up Tommy Carroll.

SPEAKER_17

Reminds me a little bit of Henderson back in the day from the old Oakland A's. Something like that.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, that folks, if you're listening, you're gonna get a lot of old-time baseball names from John and I because that's that's all I know, and I know that's a lot of what John knows. So Shaner with good lead off first base, McCarty with the pitch, swing and a miss, strike one. No balls, one strike. Two outs in the inning. Shaner on first, Carroll at bat. Gaswent would be next up if the inning gets extended.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, Tommy's looking looking in there. Took a nice cut at that first one.

SPEAKER_15

That ball bounces in there for ball one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, Shader's getting a nice leadoff over there. I'm kind of like to see the move he's got toward first here. That pitch is high and outside. He's not even looking over there. I mean, he's coming from the stretch, but he's not even looking over there. So.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, he's he's not. They must have done some scouting and don't figure that Brady has much speed. Two balls, one strike to count, two outs. Here's pitch. Swing and a miss by Carroll for strike two. Good cut by Tommy. Two balls, two strikes. Just missed making contact with that one.

SPEAKER_17

You know, you're gonna get a pitch to hit with McCarty. He's around the plate. You're gonna get a good pitch.

SPEAKER_15

There's a lineup in the pitch. Shaner goes. That ball inside bounces away. Carroll walks. Runners on first and second with two outs, brings up the pitcher. Nathan Gaswin. Three walks in the inning so far. Healing leads one to nothing.

SPEAKER_17

I'd like to see Nathan get a hold of one here. You know, where we know that, you know, if he with the speed coming in from McCarty and his swing, I mean, he makes some serious contact on it. That ball's gonna go. Yeah, but here's the pitch. On the outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike. Yeah, we were talking about that on the way up here. Yep. Every pitch I think he gets on his first run is the best. The first pitch is always that high up pitch.

SPEAKER_15

It is. Every hit bat, he's had a first pitch strike. McCarty looks back. Here's pitch. Ball bounces away from the catcher. He doesn't see it. He's looking for it. He doesn't know where it is. He's coming. Schaener's coming. Shayner scores from second base on the pass ball.

SPEAKER_17

Carroll goes all the way to third. He had no idea where that ball was, Mike. And in his defense, I mean somebody should have been yelling and telling him where that ball was.

SPEAKER_15

Well, the pitcher was, he was standing there telling him the ball had bounced almost all the way over to the heel and dugout, which is a good 50 feet from home plate.

SPEAKER_17

Good heads-up running by Shayner. Come from second base all the way in.

SPEAKER_15

Absolutely. One ball, one strike to count to Gaswent. Two outs. Carroll on third. Healing leads two to nothing. There's the wind up in the pitch. On that outside corner for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Nice pitch. Nathan's got a chance to help his cause here with the base hit. Yeah, ducks on the pond, as they would say. There's the windup. Pitch is high for ball two. Two balls, two strikes. McCarty looks in, starts his windup. Here's the pitch. Pitches way outside for ball three. Three balls, two strikes. This is a little reminiscent of Caleb's start last week. First game of the year, big game. A lot of things going on. It took Caleb an inning to settle down, and he got settled in and did a great job. Here's the pitch. Pitch is fouled off behind us. Count remains three balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, when McCarty's in the zone, we we really haven't made much contact with it. So it's I mean, all the damage has been done either, you know, either on wild pitches or pass balls, basically.

SPEAKER_15

Absolutely. McCarty with the wind up in the pitch. Gaswind goes down looking for the third out. Three walks in the inning for Healen. Three strikeouts for McCarty. After a half inning, Healing leads two to nothing. We'll be back in 30 seconds.

SPEAKER_13

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_15

Welcome back to Dutch Field. I want to make sure and give a shout out to Grace back in the studio. This game was not originally on the schedule for us. And some parents wanted it. We realized it was a big game. And thanks to Tim and Ann back at the station, they made it happen. And Grace came in on a day off. So we could broadcast this game for you folks. So, Grace, we appreciate you doing a great job. We appreciate Jack when he's helping us. So we've got a couple great kids back there in the studio that make all this work and make John and I look really good as we're trying to connect electrical equipment. First three batters for MOC in the bottom of the second will be Heller, McCarty, and Potobaum. We figure that gas went's not gonna take very much time between pitches. So we were kind of talking on the way up that we might be out of here in an hour and a half.

SPEAKER_17

Well, you know, I mean, uh let's go back to that first inning and and we talk about situation baseball, Mike, and and we saw it right away. Um Cardi also likes to work fast, but couldn't find his control early. We got a runner on, which creates basically it just it creates situations, the game within the game, like we like to talk about. JJ took advantage of uh of an inexperienced catcher, and like we said, you know, the catcher's gonna get better as the year on, but he's a sophomore and he's never played a varsity event. And you're in your first game is against Healing in this kind of a matchup, catching maybe one of the top three pitchers in the state of Iowa.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, absolutely. And uh that cat he's only gonna get better. I'm sure they had a conversation with him in the dugout, told him to settle down, relax. Yep. Uh everything will be fine.

SPEAKER_17

Well, let's see how Gab, I mean they're uh coach talked about their top six hitters being experienced, so uh let's see what Nathan can do right off the bat. Number one and two are their top two.

SPEAKER_15

First pitch, swing and a miss by Heller for strike one. Nathan with the wind up, delivery of the plate. Pitches way inside. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

I don't mind that pitch at all, Mike. I don't mind that at all. You know, let them think a little bit.

SPEAKER_15

Nathan with the wind up. That's on the outside corner for strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

This umpire's gonna love calling a game with Nathan because he is he's inside out and he doesn't miss by much.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, both these pitchers we know are gonna be right around the plate all night long. It'd be easy for the umpire and the catcher. Ball hits sharply to Hope at shortstop. Over to Aiden Lefavre at first for the first out. And Aiden didn't have to jump for that one.

SPEAKER_17

He did not. Chest high.

SPEAKER_15

Brings McCarty to the plate with one out. Healing leads two to nothing in the bottom of the first.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, great routine play by J.J. Hope. Just fielded it clean, got rid of it quick. You and I talked about that. That's something that they'd be working on in practice.

SPEAKER_15

There's the wind up by Gathwent. Pitches, bounces in the left-handed batter's box. Back to the backstop for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Can't tell looking through the screen if Nathan had a little smile on his face on that one or not. Wind up in the pitch. Swing and a miss for strike one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

Boy, how fortunate were we that these clouds all of a sudden just came in because that sun would be right in the catcher's eyes right now.

SPEAKER_15

There's a wind up in the pitch. Hit to Shaner at third, scoops it up, throws to Lefaver at first, just gets McCarty. That was a close play.

SPEAKER_17

Had a little trouble getting it out of his glove, I think. But uh beautiful play. Fielded it clean.

SPEAKER_15

Brings potted bomb to the plate with two outs. Healing leads two to nothing. Give a shout out to my wife who's back home, Anne Marie, listening on the radio, and she let me know that as usual, she put round up on the weeds, and it's raining. Seems to happen every time that goes on.

SPEAKER_17

We need the rain, so I'm not gonna argue too much. We can't get enough right now.

SPEAKER_15

First pitch ball. One ball, no strikes. Healand leads two to nothing, bottom of the first. Gas went with the wind up. Just inside for ball two. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_17

I like that pitch.

SPEAKER_15

Very efficient so far pitching. He's thrown seven pitches. Eight, nine pitches. Here's the wind up. Ball's popped up. Dylan made me nervous there for a second. It looked like he was camped under and then took about six steps to his to his left for the third out.

SPEAKER_17

So I'm telling you, Mike, with this win, you hit that's going left to right, and that's just gonna pick up as the game goes on.

SPEAKER_15

Three up, three down for MOC in the bottom of the first. We'll be back in 30 seconds.

unknown

Welcome back.

SPEAKER_15

Welcome back, everyone, to Orange City. I'm Mike Skaggs, joined by John Tritz. Healan will have the seven, eight, and nine hitters coming up this inning. Aidan LeFaver, Chase Beck, and Dylan Knapp. Healan leads two to nothing. Get uh some of our underwriters some uh applause here. Bargain Center, Barclay Asphalt, Bobro's point after and north end zone, Bush Dry Cleaners, and Central Bank and Sioux City and Storm Lake. Well, John, it's bottom of the order. It'll be interesting to see what they can do uh against McCarty here.

SPEAKER_17

You know, it's kind of funny. I mean, what we're seeing is uh in these two pitchers, they're like clones of each other, only one's a lefty and one's a rightie. I mean, speed, the way they hit the corners. Um, and we haven't missed by much on our swings, Mike. We seem to be right on it.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, we've been right on him. Wind up in the pitch. Aiden fouls that first pitch up for strike one. You know, interesting stat for Aiden. He's got two RBIs, and he hasn't got a base hit.

SPEAKER_17

Well, he got the first RBI of the season on a basis loaded walk.

SPEAKER_15

Got an R by on a basis loaded walk, and his second RBI was on a hit by pitch. Swing and a miss there for strike two. Good cut.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, very good cut. He's been right on him. You know, McCarty's throwing that little bit of, it's got a little wiggle to it at the end, and we'll just seem to just be missing it. Nice cut.

SPEAKER_15

LaFaver fouls that one back to the net. Count remains, no balls, two strikes. Top of the second inning, the Healing Crusaders lead two to nothing. Healing with a record of four and oh on the young season. LaFaver fouls that one out of play. Count remains, no balls, two strikes. He's right on him. Just needs to straighten it out here, John. Yeah, he's he's not intimidated at all.

SPEAKER_17

He's not it's good to see. I mean, you're talking an eighth grader here, so he's probably never seen something like this.

SPEAKER_15

Got caught looking for strike three. That's four strikeouts for McCarty.

SPEAKER_17

You know, initially I thought that might be a little high, but then I forget he's about a 6'5 kid, you know. Got a little higher strike zone. But uh good pitch by uh Brooks McCarty there.

SPEAKER_15

Brings Beck to the plate. Knapp will be up next. Here's the pitch. Beck squares around, fouls it off at the plate for strike one.

SPEAKER_17

Boy, I don't mind that. See where the third baseman was playing, Mikey was about 10 feet behind the bag. Don't mind that ball.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, first and third are playing deep, so. No, you come in, come quite a bit, come in quite a bit after that. Here's the wind-up in the pitch. That pitch is inside for ball one. One ball, one strike. McCarty doesn't waste a whole lot of time between pitches either. Nice cut. Nice cut. Beck fouls that pitch off into the net.

SPEAKER_17

No balls, two strikes. You know what? I like our attitude coming up the plate. I mean, these guys know they're gonna get something good, and and they're taking cuts on that first pitch.

SPEAKER_15

That pitch is high, gets away from the catcher for a ball. Two balls, two strikes. McCarty in the wind up in the pitch to the plate. Beck gets caught watching that one go by for out number two. Brings up Dylan Knapp.

SPEAKER_17

We have to have that attitude coming up, and I talked about it. I mean, they're going to get good pitches to hit from McCarty, and you've got to come up with that aggressive attitude.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, absolutely. You can't go up there and leave the bat on your shoulder. You're gonna have to swing with this kid. First pitch to Dylan is a ball. One ball, no strikes. Healing leads two to nothing, top of the second. McCarty with the pitch. Good cut by Dylan. Very good cut. He didn't get cheated on that one.

SPEAKER_17

No, he didn't. You know, he's he's another one with great speed that I, you know, I wouldn't mind seeing him maybe lay one down here.

SPEAKER_15

There's a pitch. That pitch is outside for ball two. Two balls, one strike. Yeah, third baseman's playing back far enough. Oh yeah. If he could put it down the third baseline, he could run for a while. Wind up in the pitch. That pitch is inside for ball three. Three balls, one strike. McCarty looks in, ready to deal. That pitch on the inside corner for strike two. Three balls, two strikes. Two outs. Nobody on. Healing leads two to nothing. Top of the second. Wind up in the pitch by McCarty. Swing and a miss by Dillon for strike three. Well, every out has been a strikeout so far for McCarty. We're gonna keep it here. Talk a little bit about a lot of the stuff going on at uh in Healing Athletics this week. Uh tomorrow, the Bishop Healing Junior Varsity Reserve will be playing at Briar Cliff, and the junior varstee will be at North High. The Junior Varsity softball will be at North High for two games. There's a lot, folks. I'm gonna try to get to as much as possible. Uh the Healing Junior Varsity will be playing at Briar Cliff tomorrow against West. On Wednesday, the boys start their their trek in the tournament trail for state soccer. They'll be playing Green County, I believe, John.

SPEAKER_17

Green County, so shout out to Pat Herbst and good luck to the Crusader soccer team and boys soccer team.

SPEAKER_15

And then on Wednesday, of course, for us, Healan will be at north for a doubleheader. And then on Thursday, Healen varsity baseball will be at West for a doubleheader. And then Friday, like we talked about last week, it's breakfast with the Crusaders and High T with the Crusaders as they play at 10 o'clock and 4 o'clock on Friday. And John, you're gonna be splitting duty this week because you're gonna leave me and go watch some soccer on Wednesday. And if they win, I think you're gonna leave me again on although we play at four, we should be done.

SPEAKER_17

I'll be uh I'll be at the first game on Wednesday, and then uh of course I have a grandson that plays for the boys' soccer team, Parker Riediger. Um so I'm excited to see they have a they have a really good soccer team, and I think they have a good shot at uh at possibly making it to the state tournament.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, like you said, Pat Herp's done a great job. Unbelievable. Uh here we go to the bottom of the second. Healing leads two to nothing. Korselman, Van Gelder, and Don will be the first three batters for MOC. Gaswent looks in, starts to wind up. Swing and a miss for strike one.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, he's feeling it. He's he's uh just like he was the other night. He's inside, outside, he's sitting his corners.

SPEAKER_15

Another pitch just off the outside corner for a ball. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

You know, we forget that uh that he and Erickson, you know, they grew up playing with each other. They've been throwing to each other for probably ten years.

SPEAKER_15

That ball fouled down the route, right field line out of play for strike two, one ball, two strikes. Yeah, they they know a little bit about each other and they know what each can do, so it's a good combination for those two.

SPEAKER_17

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_15

Nathan looks in, here's the pitch. Popped up to Beck out at second base. Beck makes the play for the first out.

SPEAKER_17

That's a beautiful pitch. Nice curveball on the outside corner. Got the batter leaning a little bit, popped that thing up to the second baseman.

SPEAKER_15

That'll bring Van Gelder to the plate. Looks like Peyton's going inside on this one. Ball hit sharply to hope it's short. He scoops it up, throws to the favor at first. Just gets him. Van Gelder with good speed heading down the first baseline there.

SPEAKER_17

Beautiful play by JJ. I'll tell you what, Mike, what I'm seeing in JJ is he's coming up and he's getting rid of that ball way quicker than he was last week. Yeah. I mean, and and when you're at second base, which was where he was last year, you have time to gather that ball up, make throw over. So just a new position that he's learning, and let me tell you, a lot quicker this week.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, he's done a good job. Don steps in, first pitch in there for a strike. No balls, one strike, bottom of the second. Healing leads two to nothing. That pitch in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Nathan's only at about 13, 14 pitches so far. So he's being very efficient.

SPEAKER_17

You know, I tell you what, he is he's an intimidating presence out there, Mike. I mean, those that you haven't seen uh Nathan, he's got thighs about the size of tree trunks.

SPEAKER_15

Yep. Don caught looking there for strike three. Uh that's out number three. We'll be back in 30 seconds, seconds. Head to the top of the third.

SPEAKER_11

If you have any questions, you can reach out to Coach Lumpy with any questions. Here we go to the top of the third. JJ Hope will lead off. He'll be followed by Erickson and Caleb Lefaver.

SPEAKER_17

Nice patience. Got on on the walk, and we know what he did after that.

SPEAKER_15

First pitch bounces in there for a ball, ball one.

SPEAKER_17

Again, Mike, we talked about JJ. What just a tremendous all-around athlete, football, hockey, baseball. Just one one right to the other.

SPEAKER_15

That pitch on the outside corner for strike one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

And look at that third baseman's playing. I mean, this obviously doesn't remember his first go-around.

SPEAKER_15

Wind up in the pitch on the inside corner for strike two. One ball, two strikes. McCarty has six strikeouts so far. Here he is with the wind up and the next pitch. JJ fouls that off at the plate. Count remains one ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

You know, the way he makes contact. I wouldn't put it past him with two strikes. I mean, possibly lay one down here.

SPEAKER_15

Here's a pitch by McCarty. Hits sharply between first and second. Right fielder fields it. Looks to throw back in. JJ Hope on first, no outs. Brings up Peyton Erickson. Healing leads two to nothing in the top of the third.

SPEAKER_17

Beautiful piece of inside outside hitting, Mike. McCarty tried to come on the inside with him, and and JJ held back, kept his fist in, and took that ball to right field. And just like how you teach him to do it. You know, you you just take it, take it, and take what he gives you, and poke that ball where they are, which is right between first and second.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, he fought that off and was able to put it between the hole there. Erickson steps in, McCarty checks first base, comes home with the pitch, pitches inside for ball one.

SPEAKER_17

Again, here we're right back where we were in that first inning. Situation baseball, Mike. The game within the game. I know we talk about it, but this is, you know, you're you're as a coach, you're sitting here, and you know what's he gonna do? He's gonna lay one down, they're gonna steal.

SPEAKER_15

Pitch low and outside for ball two, two balls, no strikes. See if JJ stretches his lead a little bit here. A little bit tougher on JJ with left-handed pitcher, but he's still got great speed that he can get down there if he needs to. Wind up in the pitch.

SPEAKER_16

All right, okay.

SPEAKER_15

Erickson fouls that off. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

Now we gotta find him. We gotta manufacture a way to get him down to second base. And I'd like to see us play a little small ball here, Mike, but yeah, that that'd be nice.

SPEAKER_15

Uh Lefre on deck, Caleb Lefaver on deck. Cardi looks over to first, comes home with the pitch. Swing and a miss by Erickson there for strike two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, beautiful. Took some speed off that beautiful uh curve ball in the outside corner.

SPEAKER_15

McCarty doesn't even look toward first. Pitch is on the inside corner for strike three. That's seven strikeouts for McCarty. Brings Caleb a favor to the plate. You have to figure that JJ will be going at some point in this at bat with Caleb up there and uh left-handed batter to uh try to get that hole open between first and second. Yeah. JJ goes. Pitches outside. No chance.

SPEAKER_17

No chance. Catcher didn't even make a throw. And JJ was halfway down there before the ball even got the home plate.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_15

One ball, no strikes to LaFaver. JJ Hope at second, one out. Shayner on deck. Here's the pitch LeFaver on the outside corner for strike one. One ball, one strike. That's where that call third strike was on Caleb the last time.

SPEAKER_17

Well, the ump likes the outside corner, and that was a good pitch. I mean, he's and he's right around that. And uh and and he's calling it, so you have to come up there when you come up the bat, you have to keep that in mind.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the pitch LeFaver, low and outside, ball two, two balls, one strike. JJ Hope at second, Caleb Lefaver at the plate, Brody Shaner, next up. Yeah.

SPEAKER_17

I mean, as a as a hitter, uh you have to adjust to the umpires. You know, the umpires aren't going to adjust to you. And you if they're calling that outside corner, Mike, I mean, cheat up a little bit. I mean, especially McCarty. He kind of likes that outside corner.

SPEAKER_15

Yep, McCarty steps off there, brings pitch to the plate, way outside for ball three. Three balls, one strike. Like we talked about last week. It's you know, you pitch around Caleb, that brings Brody up.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, he's he's not gonna give Caleb anything in his wheelhouse. You know, he he knows what Caleb can do.

SPEAKER_15

Three balls, one strike. Hope at second. Here's the pitch to LeFaver. Lines it right back up the middle.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, it's gonna score Hope, hopefully, there. He's coming.

SPEAKER_15

JJ had to JJ was held up by Coach Taylor at third, and JJ said, I missed that sign, I'm going all the way. Hope scores from second base, makes a score three to nothing healing. LaFaver with a good job of hitting there, single.

SPEAKER_17

Folks, so JJ was out there at second. He was actually going back to second base because he got caught. And when he took, it took that center fielder forever to get to that ball.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, he was slow.

SPEAKER_17

And uh, but JJ with those kind of wheels, there's no way he didn't have a chance at him.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, Shayner steps in here with LaFavre on first and one out. Healing leads three to nothing. Pitch high and outside for ball one.

SPEAKER_17

Just a good piece of hitting by uh Caleb LaFavre there, right up the middle, just like we just like we teach. Just drive it right right at the pitcher's head.

SPEAKER_15

We're in the top of third here in Orange City. McCarty throws back over. Kind of waiting for LeFavor being 6'10 or whatever he is. He's just able to lay down and put his hand on the on the base, didn't have to go too far.

SPEAKER_17

Kind of waiting to see that throwback.

SPEAKER_15

Cardi looks over first, pitch to the plate. Pitch on the inside corner for a strike. Well, I think Shaner would like that pitch back, Mike. One ball, one strike. Carroll on deck. Healing looking to do some more damage here with Shaner at the plate. Pitch to the plate. Shaner tried to check his swing, wasn't able to. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah. Cardi came in with a cutter on the inside corner, and uh by time Shaner was able to realize that thing was coming in, it was just a little too late. He had already committed.

SPEAKER_15

Lefavre goes. Swing and a miss. Ball gets away from the catcher.

SPEAKER_17

Here we go.

SPEAKER_15

That is strikeout number eight for McCarty.

SPEAKER_17

I was telling you, Mike, the other day, uh watching uh Omaha Scut and uh Elkorn in the Class B state championship. And the reason I'm bringing this up because there's two outs. They had 18 runs in that game, and 14 of them were scored with two outs.

SPEAKER_15

That's that's crazy.

SPEAKER_17

You know. So let's make something happen.

SPEAKER_15

First pitch on the inside of corner to Carroll, no balls, one strike. LaFavor at second. Gas went next up if we can extend the inning, and Healing leads three to nothing. In the top of the third. Pitch to the plate. Way inside. One ball, one strike. Well, Faber's getting a pretty sizable lead out there.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, he's got those long strides, short stops, the only one keeping him on there.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the pitch by McCarty. Outside corner for strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, beautiful pitch. You know, again, the inexperience of the catcher. I mean, kind of bobbles that ball, gets hoped to second base.

SPEAKER_15

That pitch foul down the first baseline. Count remains one ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Bobbles that ball, gets hoped down to second base, and and you know, we manufacture the run. And it's uh like we said, you know, I mean, as the season goes on, he's gonna get better and better with these pitchers.

SPEAKER_15

McCarty steps off. Yeah, we were talking to the MLC coach before the game. He said, you know, he told his kids this could be the first game of the season, it could be the last game of the season. Yep. These two teams could very easily meet in the state tournament.

SPEAKER_17

Oh, no question.

SPEAKER_15

Carroll swing and a miss for strike three.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, overall, he's gotta he's gotta like what he sees from the We'll be back in 30 seconds.

SPEAKER_13

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic Radio station.

SPEAKER_15

Welcome back to Orange City, where Healan is taking on the MOC Floyd Valley Dutch. Heading to the bottom of the third, Healing leads three to nothing. Coming to the plate for MOC in the bottom of the third will be Boone, Jaeger, and Carrion. Just anywhere, down here.

SPEAKER_17

Let's say uh give a shout out to some of our sponsors and underwriters for Catholic Radio and for Bishop Healing Baseball, uh, Greken Family I Care, Heideman Law Firm, Heinmann Family Dentistry, I'm on Communications, JJ Coins and Collectibles, Jimmy Johns, Keller Williams Real Estate Agent, Tammy Bertram.

SPEAKER_15

I'd like to thank all of our underwriters for Catholic Radio. And folks, if you're interested and you want to get involved in supporting Catholic Radio, you can give Ann and the fine folks there at the station a call and they'll work with you to find an affordable underwriting spot for you. Throw down to second base. Gaswin getting ready to take the mound to start the bottom of the third with Boone stepping in, the designated hitter.

SPEAKER_17

Now we're getting to the part of the lineup that's a little inexperienced for the uh MOC Dutch. This is kind of the area where Coach was a little concerned about. So we'll see how their first bet goes up here against Gaswin.

SPEAKER_15

First pitch by Nathan was outside for ball one. Second pitch. Swing and a miss by Boone for strike one. One ball, one strike. Again, we're in the bottom of the third. Healing leads three to nothing. It'll be Boone, Jaeger, and Carrion. Hits sharply to Beck at second base, makes a good stop, throws it to LeFavre, who makes the tag on the runner heading down the first baseline.

SPEAKER_17

Great field and throw by Beck and an even better play at first base on Cale. The throw was a little bit to the left, and the young man had the patience to stand there, catch it, and make the tag.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, you'd almost think he was a sophomore or junior when he made that play instead of an incoming freshman. Gaswent looks in. First pitch to Jaeger on that outside corner for a strike, strike one. No balls, one strike, one out. Carry on would be up next. That pitch just missed on the inside corner. Ball one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

Well, he didn't miss by much. No, he didn't. Peyton really wanted that one.

SPEAKER_15

Guessing he'll come back to that one here shortly. Oh yeah. There's a wind up by Nathan. Pitch to the plate.

SPEAKER_17

Much trouble.

SPEAKER_15

Lined out to right field. Great play by Carroll out there in right field for the second out.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, he played that beautifully. Just a little bit to his left, made that uh made that turn and ran it down.

SPEAKER_15

That'll bring Carey onto the plate.

SPEAKER_17

If there's gonna be a tough play tonight, Mike, that's gonna be it. That ball hit out to right field with that win.

SPEAKER_15

Nathan looks in, wind up. Here's a pitch. Ball lined over Beck at second base. That's the first hit of the ball game for MOC. And it will bring Heller to the plate. Top of the batting order. McCarty would be next if Heller is able to extend the inning.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, you know, I mean, I'm sure coaches told these guys you're gonna get it, you're gonna get a strike or you're gonna get a pitch close to the plate, you know, be aggressive, and that's exactly what their young man just did there.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, he did a nice job driving that uh over back at second base.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, now now this is where, you know, I mean your your pitcher-catcher and and the experience comes in. Now you're seeing these guys the second time around, Mike, and they know he's gonna be around the plate. So now you're inside outside game. This is where it really comes into play, you know. Where did I throw him last time? Do I go with that same pitch or do I change it up?

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, it'll be interesting.

SPEAKER_17

Coach is over there. I'm telling you, he's right now he's telling them you're gonna get something, be aggressive on that first pitch.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, I can't imagine he'd be they'd be discussing laying a bunt down, but you never know.

SPEAKER_17

Oh boy. You know, you just gotta get one back at a time with two outs.

SPEAKER_15

Uh guess went from the stretch for the first time tonight. Healing leads three to nothing in the bottom of the third. Two outs for MOC. Runner on first. Heller at the plate, first pitch. Just outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Boy, that was a nice pitch, and he's been calling that. Uh just maybe a little, just a little bit outside on that one.

SPEAKER_15

Peyton tried to frame it. Nathan looking over at first base, keeping carrying close. Wind up, comes to the plate. That pitch is almost the exact same spot for a strike. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

I think that thing's still bending. That thing had some serious spin on it. I'd come back inside on him, Mike. If you see where he's got his that front foot back, he's stepping right, he's stepping right toward the plate, and his back foot, his back foot's already basically on the plate.

SPEAKER_15

Thrower to first. Almost got him there. Good move by Gaswent.

SPEAKER_17

Uh umpires I'd like to see him a little bit more over make that call.

SPEAKER_15

Nathan from the stretch. I think Nathan's getting a little bit of uh signal from Shaner over at third base here. Nathan looks over at first again. Yeah, Peyton's going inside. Lind up comes to the plate. That pitch was inside. Mind that. Don't mind that at all. Two balls, one strike. Fans are getting a little excited down there, and it's gonna take a lot to get Nathan rattled. Come right back in on him, Mike.

SPEAKER_17

Come right back in on him.

SPEAKER_15

Nathan delivers to the plate. Ball hit out to right field. Heller with the double. Carrion advances to third.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, he took that curve bow to right field. Just kind of hung it just a little bit.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, he did. MOC's got runners at second and third with two outs. Brings McCarty to the plate. McCarty has a chance here to help himself out.

SPEAKER_17

It's interesting. McCarty throws from the left side and hits from the right.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, you don't you don't see that very often.

unknown

That's ultimately does everything else right.

SPEAKER_17

Golf streight. We're talking to the MOC AD as we speak. He says he does everything right except throw.

SPEAKER_15

Nathan looks in. Here's first pitch in there for strike one. No balls one strike. MOC and threatening here in the bottom of the third. Runners at second and third with two outs. Healing leads three to nothing.

SPEAKER_17

Well, I like Yasmin here.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the pitch to the plate. That hit him.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah. Hit him on the backside. Humpire called that right away.

SPEAKER_15

So now we've got the bases loaded with two outs, and that brings up Potabom.

SPEAKER_17

Mikey threw a curveball that did not break.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, and that doesn't happen very often for him.

SPEAKER_17

No.

SPEAKER_15

Peyton goes out there, pats him on the back, and says, All right, now you've made this interesting, let's let's get out of this.

SPEAKER_17

I don't I don't mind that, putting McCarty on, getting bases loaded. Um you know, and and and facing Potobaum, 'cause now you got you gotta force out at any base. Um I'm assuming he was fearing McCarty a little bit more than he probably does Padabaugham.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah. Defense just has to make a play here. First pitch fouled off down the third baseline. Strike one, no balls one strike. Base is loaded, bottom of the third. Healing leads three to nothing. MOC threatening to score a couple runs at least in this inning.

SPEAKER_17

Come back in.

SPEAKER_15

Batter calls timeout, steps out, trying to throw Nathan off a little bit. Nathan looks in. Here's the pitch to the plate. Swing and a miss for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

He strides way away from the plate. When he takes that first stride, first cut, he strides way away. You know, I'll take note of that. And then there Peyton, I'm setting up on the outside corner. Let's see what Peyton goes, and that's exactly where he's going.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the pitch. Hit to Hope at third. Drummond in the favor. Drummond's the favor up the bag. They've got the runner coming between second and between third and home. So Kerrigan will score from third on the net. Himmer will advance to third. McCarty goes to second. And Padebaum is on at first base. Just low enough that we couldn't make a play on it.

SPEAKER_17

I think he wanted to go to third. But the third baseman was off the off the base because he was coming in.

SPEAKER_15

That would have been the easy play, but third baseman was moving away from the bag and he wasn't able to do that. Base is still loaded. Bring Korselman up. Healing leads three to one. Bottom of the third.

SPEAKER_17

This is a huge event.

SPEAKER_15

Wind up in the pitch. On that outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike. No, he's he's not rattled. He's gonna be fine. Comes to the plate. Ball hit up the grand slam home running from the gentleman puts them over the fence in the right field.

SPEAKER_17

The only splendid on the field mic uh we get the ball up in the air and it's gonna be hit it, he hit it high, which normally would look like a routine fly ball, and that thing just carried and carried and carried.

SPEAKER_15

Well, you said it when we were watching the JV game. If you're gonna get one out of here, it's gonna be the right field. He got a bat on that and was able to send it.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, that wasn't a bad pitch, yeah. You know, and he got him to basically fly out, but the ball just carried.

SPEAKER_15

Van Gelder steps in, nobody on. Two outs, first pitch outside for ball one. MOC now leads five to three. Five runs here in the bottom of the third inning for the Dutch. Gas went. Fires that one in there for a strike. One ball, one strike. See if Nathan can come back and get the out here.

SPEAKER_17

I mean, this is huge.

SPEAKER_15

Pitch must have been a little bit low. Two balls, one strike. He's firing it, that's for sure. Here's the pitch. That ball inside, three balls, one strike. Nathan checking the scoreboard out there. Just focus on the batter, Nathan. That's that's where you need to have your head right now. Pitch. That pitch was inside for ball four. Van Gelder goes down to first base. Brings up Don.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, Caleb's gonna go out and talk to him. Try to settle him down here a little bit.

SPEAKER_15

Again, MLC has put five runs across the plate here in the bottom of the third. They now lead healing five to three. Coach Wesselman and the infielder out there talking to Nathan. Tell him just settle down here.

SPEAKER_17

Let's get it. Let's get in. Let's get our let's get our our bats up here. Yeah, it's too bad because the pitch he threw on that on that home run on the Grand Slam mic was actually a really good pitch. Did exactly what he needed to do. Got him to fly out. And like I said, that 15 to 20 mile an hour wind going out the right field there. It just carried.

SPEAKER_15

Alright, Coach Wesselman's had his words with Nathan. Don steps in. Gas went from the stretch here. Checks first base. Delivers to the plate. Ball's fouled off. Out of play to the right side. Strike one. No balls, one strike to Don. Ninth batter in the inning for the Dutch. Caleb looks over at first. Comes to the plate with the pitch. That's lineback out to center field. Dylan Knapp with the catch to end the inning. The Dutch score five runs in the bottom of the inning. Take the lead five to three. We'll be back in 30 seconds as we head to the top of the fourth.

SPEAKER_13

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_15

Welcome back to Orange City, everyone. Crusaders have a little bit of work to do now after MOC scored five runs in the bottom of the third. Coming to the top of the fourth, Healen will send Gaswent, Aiden LaFaver, and Chase Beck to the plate.

SPEAKER_17

Just like clockwork, uh, Mike, I think that's it for McCarty. I think we got a pitch and change.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, he'd thrown quite a few pitches.

SPEAKER_17

Is that Heller? I think that's Heller in now. 22. Yeah, I think they just changed spots. I think McCarty went out to center field and Heller is now pitching, and and and coach said he was gonna only throw each one of them 60 to 70 pitches.

SPEAKER_15

Well, McCarty leaves with the lead now. He did throw a lot of pitches, but uh he leaves with the lead and brings Heller in. They don't need to press too much. No, no. Just need to make contact. No. Defensively, MOC's tightened it up. Uh wild pitches have pretty much non-existent since first and second inning.

SPEAKER_17

So now let's see. You know, I mean, two runs is nothing here. We you know, we just need to manufacture one at a time. And uh, you know, one base runner at a time, one at bat at a time, and then let's see, let's just see how they react. We haven't had we haven't been in this situation. No. So let's see what what kind of reaction we have.

SPEAKER_15

First pitch to Gaswent in there for strike one. No balls, one strike. 5-3 MOC, top of the fourth. Gaswent leading off. Here's the pitch to Nathan. Pitches in there for strike two, no balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Heller just the sophomore for the Dutch. Also comes from the left. I mean, and really look just identical to McCarty the way he throws.

SPEAKER_15

And here's the pitch to Nathan. Swing and a miss for strike three. Gaswin strikes out to lead off the inning, brings up Aiden Lefavre. Beck would be next, and Dylan Knapp if the inning can be extended. Now would be a good time for this young man to get his first hit. Yeah, it's good cut by Aiden there on that for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

A little bit up in the zone, like to see him bring it down just a tad. But but nice cut. Nice cut.

SPEAKER_15

Color comes set. Pitch to the plate. Inside for ball one. One ball, one strike. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_16

Nice cut by Aiden.

SPEAKER_15

Aiden fouls that back to the net. Has the MOC fans jumping a little bit down there. One ball, two strikes, one out. Healing trails five to three in the top of the fourth.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, two extremely good ball teams out here. What a treat that we're we're getting tonight.

SPEAKER_15

Pitch. Pitch fouled off behind us. Remains one ball, two strikes. Yeah, thank you again to Tim and Ann and Grace for putting things together to allow us to be able to broadcast this game tonight. I know we've had people asking if it was going to be on, even with you and I are standing down there, John. There's the pitch outside for ball two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, it you know, when we we talked about this game, this is one of those ones, Mike, that, you know, I mean, once we found out, you know, top ten matchup, and and uh you jumped on that right away.

SPEAKER_15

Swing and a miss, ball gets away from the catcher. Throw down to first. Second strikeout of the inning. That will bring Chase Beck to the plate. Well, he knew it wasn't hope running. He knew he had a little bit of time.

SPEAKER_17

A little bit of time. But yeah, uh thank you again to after Tim and Ann and that group letting us come up here and do this game. And it's just a treat for us as well.

SPEAKER_15

Beck squares around. Ball one, I believe. Yep. Didn't offer at it. One ball, no strikes on Beck.

SPEAKER_17

That's tough for the first base umpire. I know they checked with him, but to see that, see if he actually squared on a bunt. I that's a tough one on him.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the pitch to Beck. Second pitch is low for ball two, two balls, no strikes. Yeah, and the umpire was having a conversation with the first base coach for healing, so yeah. A little bit of a delay whenever the appeal was made down to him. Heller to the plate. Inside for ball three, three balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Almost hit him. Dylan Knapp would be up next. I mean, uh let's manufacture something with two outs here, Mike.

SPEAKER_15

Pitch by Heller. High for ball four. Four pitch walk. Puts Beck on first base. Brings Dylan Knapp to the plate with two outs. Healing trails five to three, top of the fourth.

SPEAKER_17

Be aggressive, Dylan. I get in there. He's he's coming. He just threw four straight balls, so their pitching coach looks like he's coming out going to talk to him a little bit. Something he didn't like.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, he must have seen something for to get two K's and then a four-pitch walk and have him come out and have a conversation with him.

SPEAKER_17

He's looking him right in the eye. There's just something going on here. You know, you got JJ sitting sitting in the wing here, and I'm sure he doesn't want to see him come up with guys in scoring position. I'm sure coaches telling Dylan, you know, you're gonna get something. He just threw four straight balls. He's gotta come, he's gotta, he's gotta come to you. He's he's been right around the plate. Look for that first pitch.

SPEAKER_15

Conversation's over on the mound. Dylan steps in. Heller pitching from the stretch. Beck with a short lead over at first base. Heller comes to the plate. Dylan takes a cut at that first pitch for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

That's a good pitch to take a cut at. Right down the middle. Took a little bit of speed off of it.

SPEAKER_15

Dylan steps back in. Beck really no threat to Steele over there. He's got about a three-foot. That ball almost hits Dylan. Way inside. One ball, one strike. Beck has only got about a two or three-step lead over there, so I don't think there's any danger he's gonna run except on a pass ball.

SPEAKER_17

No, I mean.

SPEAKER_15

Pitch to the plate. Dylan takes a good cut at that.

SPEAKER_17

One ball, two strikes. And Dylan's just missing it. He's just missing that. It's gonna get a little bit of the same here, Mike.

SPEAKER_15

Beck takes off for second. He's in there safely. Oh, that was strike three. Umpire was late with the call there. Boy, he was really late. So Healen leaves a man stranded. We'll go to the bottom of the fourth. Healing trails five to three. We'll be back in 30 seconds.

SPEAKER_12

SPEAKER_13

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_15

As we head to the bottom of the fourth, MOC leads Healing 5-3. MOC will send Boone, Jaeger, and Carey under the plate in this inning. And that's the way the last inning started with those three. So Nathan is back out on the mound. A little confidence in him.

SPEAKER_17

And basically do the majority of the damage until the Grand Slam. And uh and it's kind of similar to us, Mike, and in the bottom of the order, you know, uh our inexperience is there, and and you know, we're just looking for that big hit, and and you know, we just gotta be patient.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, and I notice here you talked about that uh two-out scoring that in a Nebraska State Championship game the other day. MLC scored five runs with two outs.

SPEAKER_17

Yep, yep. I mean that's that's you just you gotta manufacture things. You like we talked about, I mean, it's a situation baseball. I mean, you're not out until the third out, and that's exactly what happened. He got some key hits and he got to the top of the order where they want it to be.

SPEAKER_15

Nathan winds up first pitch. Low for ball one. No balls, one strike, or one ball, no strikes to Boone.

SPEAKER_17

Nathan just needs to come back here and have a really good inning. I mean, you want to build that confidence back up. I'm sure he got a little shook after the last inning.

SPEAKER_15

Swing and a miss there by Boone for strike one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

Beautiful curveball in the outside corner there.

SPEAKER_15

Pitch. That pitch is outside for ball two. Two balls, one strike. We will have a short post-game show when this game is over, and uh Coach Wesselman is going to try to join us, so we'll recap the game a little bit and do a short interview with him and and call it a night. Nathan looks in. Here's a wind up.

SPEAKER_16

Boy.

SPEAKER_15

Oh, that ball looked like right on the inside corner. Well, he really was. Just a little off. Three balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

That's a pitch you gotta have. And as a catcher, I mean I'm sure he's chirping a little bit. You just gotta have that pitch.

SPEAKER_15

Pitch fouled off behind us. Brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Bottom of the fourth, MOC leads Healing five to three. MOC scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the third inning. And this is new territory for us, too, John. We haven't been a we haven't been the visiting team yet this year.

SPEAKER_17

No, no, no.

SPEAKER_15

It's it's pitch on the outside corner for caught looking for strike three.

SPEAKER_17

Beautiful pitch. Uh Nathan really painted the corner on that one on the outside corner, but um, you know, I know Nathan wants that inside corner. Uh and in in in the um's just not, he's not calling that. Uh or it's just a little bit in, and I know Nathan wants it.

SPEAKER_15

Appeal down to first base, said he did not offer. One ball, no strikes to Jaeger. Carrying on deck.

SPEAKER_17

I'm anxious to see how we react, Mike, to be honest with you. I mean, this is this is this is actually, I mean, if you're gonna have a game where you're where you got to come back and and and see what you got in you against a good team, this is it. It's early in the season.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, yeah, and you want to do it against competition like this. You want to see what you're made of. That pitch was high for ball two, two balls, no strikes. Healing will have the top of their order coming up in the top of the fifth inning. Here's the pitch, swing and a miss. Strike one, two balls, one strike, one out. Healing trails five to three, bottom of the fourth inning. Wind up by Nathan. Oh. Just a little bit low. Three balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

Peyton did a great job framing that ball on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_15

I'm sure Peyton had a word or two for the umpire on that one as well. Yep. He's wind up in the pitch. Inside for ball four. So Jaeger walks. Jaeger at first base. Carrion comes to the plate with one out.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, this is this is a big out here, Mike. This is a big out. We want to get we want to get carrion out, got the top of the order coming out. We you know, I mean, this is kind of the same situation we had last inning.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, you don't want to don't want to get too many men on base here. Want to get out of this uh untouched and keep the scored five to three. Nathan checks first base, pitch to the plate, hit to Lefavre at first off his glove. That'll be an error on the first baseman. Now have runners at first and second with one out.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, I think he just misjudged it. Just took a weird bounce for him.

SPEAKER_15

Weird bounce, a little bit of inexperience there on that. Brings Heller to the plate with one out. Runners at first and second.

SPEAKER_17

Forced out at any base.

SPEAKER_15

MOC looking at trying to do some more damage here. They already lead five to three in the bottom of the fourth. Gas went check second base, comes to the plate. That pitch just missed for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_17

It's gotta be low.

SPEAKER_15

Runners aren't being held on here. Gaswin checks back to second base. Here's the pitch. That pitch in there for a strike. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

Pitch had a little wiggle to it.

SPEAKER_15

That did have some movement at the end.

SPEAKER_17

Yep.

SPEAKER_15

Made it easy for Peyton to have to frame because it came right back where it needed to be. Gaswent taking a long lead in.

SPEAKER_17

JJ's popping over there.

SPEAKER_15

Gaswent comes to the plate. That pitch in there for strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

There we go. Good inside, outside on him.

SPEAKER_15

Nathan being a little more deliberate here with runners at first and second, not pitching quite as fast as he normally does.

SPEAKER_17

Now this is a big pitch here. This is a big pitch. Get him one and two.

SPEAKER_15

Checks second. Throw to the plate. That ball hits sharply out to center field. Knapp settles under it. Runner from second tags. Heads to third. In there safely. We now have runners at first and third with two outs. That brings McCarty to the plate.

SPEAKER_17

Great job from Dillon hitting his hitting our uh hitting his cutoff man. Actually had a play at third there. When that ball was initially hit, I didn't think we'd have a shot at it. So good job from Dillon getting that ball turned out of his glove and in.

SPEAKER_15

So McCarty steps in. Peyton giving some signals to the infield on what they may or may not be doing if the runner from first decides to take off.

SPEAKER_17

I mean, this is a huge at bat. You got McCarty, probably their top hitter. In here, and you got a guy at first and third.

SPEAKER_15

Gas went, delivers to the plate. Foul down the third baseline for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

Curveball in the outside corner, and McCarty just a little bit ahead of it.

SPEAKER_15

MOC would dearly love to add another run or two here.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah. They're not comfortable with the two-run lead. Not with top of the order coming up for the Crusaders.

SPEAKER_15

Gasmine delivery to the plate. Hit between short and third. JJ Hope makes a diving attempt for it. Not able to make the stop. Jaeger will score from third to make it six to three. We now have runners at first and second with two outs. And that brings Pottabaum to the plate.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, with JJ Holting the kind of leaning over towards second base. He hit that in a perfect spot. JJ would have had to make a heck of a play to come up, come up with that, and just got underneath his glove.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, I think even if he could have got to it, all he could have done is knock it down.

SPEAKER_17

Right, right. I agree with you.

SPEAKER_15

Runners at first and second. MOC leads six to three, bottom of the fourth. Gaswin deals to the plate. Batter squares around a bunt. Did not offer at it. Ball one. One ball, no strikes. Two outs here in the bottom of the fourth. Healing trails six to three. Ball goes to center field.

SPEAKER_17

Or Dilly.

SPEAKER_15

Gary and is in there safely to third. And McCarty advances to second on the throw to third. So now we've got runners at second and third with two outs.

SPEAKER_17

Well Nathan's looking over at that into the dugout. So we actually had a play on and to second base. And at least Nathan thought we had a play on. He turned and threw, and there was just nobody there. So one of the they're either that there was a mess up from the catcher to the pitcher, or from the pitcher with the second baseman.

SPEAKER_15

Ball gets away. What did he runner unable to advance? I thought that ball hit him. I thought it did too. Two balls, no strikes. He didn't do a very good job of selling it. I think he could have tried to sell it a little bit and maybe got away with it.

SPEAKER_17

Well, I think the third base, the guy on third base thought it hit him. I mean, like, how did he not score on that?

SPEAKER_15

Yeah.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah. Yeah, he almost reacted like he thought he got hit. But anyway, on that go back that play at second base, Knapp almost got that guy at third base. Great job coming up and just unleashing a bullet to third.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the pitch on that outside corner for a strike. Two balls, one strike. Runners at second and third, two outs for the Dutch. They've added a run this inning. They lead Healand 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth. Nathan pitching from the full wind up. Here's a pitch to the plate. That ball hit him. Another hit by pitch. So we hit it. We have the bases loaded. Two outs. Brings up Korselman who hit the grand slam the last time up.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, we're in dangerous territory here right now. I mean, this is a huge out. You want to keep this thing in within reach. Uh 6-3, it's still within reach. You know, he he unloads on this one. You know, it's trouble coming down, coming back from a you know, 7-8 run game.

SPEAKER_15

And I do not see anybody down in the heel and bullpen warming up. So my guess is they're gonna stay with gas rent here.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah. Peyton's going out there right now. He's calming him down, talking to his uh young pitcher here. And and Peyton knows how big an out this is. Like I said last time, it wasn't a bad pitch to Potobaum. Uh or excuse me, uh to Corsa. Is it Korselman?

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, to Korselman here. It wasn't a bad pitch. He just got it up in the air.

SPEAKER_15

That pitch in there for a strike. Fake throw down to third base there.

SPEAKER_17

You know, that wind's starting to die down just a little bit, which uh he gets that ball up there now. That's it's a routine fly ball.

SPEAKER_15

That pitch hit right back up the middle. Bounces up the mound, map up with it. Two more runs with score. Carrion from third, McCarty from second.

SPEAKER_17

That was just a good piece of hitting. Hit it right up the middle, right back up, right, just like you're taught.

SPEAKER_15

Potterbaum to third, and Korselman on first. Running first and third, two outs. MOC now leads this one eight to three, bottom of the fourth. Ben Gelder will step in.

SPEAKER_17

Gaswin, you gotta he's just he's gonna have to bear down here. He's got to get us out of this inning, and you know, coach is leaving it up to him. Uh he's got the confidence in him saying, come on, young man, let's uh let's let's bear down, let's get out of this inning.

SPEAKER_15

He's going into the stretch here. Pitch to the plate. That pitch is in there for a strike. Yeah, big thing that Nathan needs to do right now is he just he needs to look forward through the windshield and not through the rear view mirror because the view is a lot bigger and better. Can't change anything that's happened in the past. He's just got to work on on moving forward.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, one out at a time.

SPEAKER_15

Runner from first goes, no throw down to second. Corsiman advances to second. Just got a huge jump.

SPEAKER_17

Huge jump. That would have been a tough, even if he threw that thing on a perfect throw. I don't I don't think he would have had a shot at him.

SPEAKER_15

No balls, two strikes on Van Gelder. Runners at second and third. That ball bounces in there for ball one. One ball, two strikes. MLC has added three runs to their lead in this inning. They now lead at eight to three in the bottom of the fourth. What do we have here? What are they calling here?

SPEAKER_17

Call him for a ball.

SPEAKER_15

Coach Wesselman heading out. Not sure if that's a question you want to ask in a post-game interview, but you might want to ask what that was about because we're not quite sure. Anyway, at this point right now, the score is 9-3. Pottebaum scored from third. The umpire explaining what his call was.

SPEAKER_17

That's the only thing I can think of, Mike, is that he called a bulk on that. And and I I am uh I'm speechless on this one. I I have no idea what he called, and I think he's trying to explain to Coach Wesselman that he didn't come set. And I'm still it's still confused to me.

SPEAKER_15

So Pottabaum scores. Korsman heads to third on the unknown call.

SPEAKER_17

No, I think that's gotta be that's three of it.

SPEAKER_15

That's three of us in the press box that have no idea what the call was because we asked the MLC AD and he he thinks that's what it was, but he's not sure. So let's go with that. Korsman advances to third. One ball, two strikes on Van Gelder. Here's the pitch. Flying out to Carroll in right field. He makes an attempt at it. It gets by him. Korsman will score from third. Van Gelder is in there, standing enough at third base.

SPEAKER_17

That's one of those dumb. I mean, when you make the dive and try to make the diving catch, if you make it, it's it's it's an incredible catch. If you miss it, um it gets away from you like that, and the results triple. And and a beautiful effort by Tommy Carroll. He he laid out on that one.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, he he started back on it and then came back in. It reminded me a little bit of uh the Creighton St. John's game yesterday morning. Same thing happened to the Creighton outfielder. He started in and the ball, he let the ball bounce in front of it, got away from him. So that'll be it for Gaswent. We'll have a pitching change. We'll be back in 30 seconds.

SPEAKER_13

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your own.

SPEAKER_15

Mason Moravic comes in to pitch. Uh he'll be the first batter he'll face will be Van Gelder. MOC leads this one 10-3. Bottom of the fourth inning, two outs.

SPEAKER_16

Thatcher Donovan.

SPEAKER_17

Thatcher.

SPEAKER_15

We are waiting for Moravic to finish his warmups here.

SPEAKER_17

Let's see if Moravic can come in and and do what he did the other night. Throw strikes, uh, keep the batters a little bit off balance uh and a little bit inside outside.

SPEAKER_15

You know, he came in last week and did a great job in relief. Uh hopefully, like you said, he can keep that going. Uh obviously not an outing indicative of what Nathan Gaswin is is capable of doing. This is one he's gonna have to wipe out of the memory banks and move forward as the season goes on.

SPEAKER_17

Right. I I totally agree with you. I mean, just a couple unfortunate uh situations that uh, you know, I I mean if that guy hits the ball right now, though if you look at the flag out there, it's it's completely died. There is no wind. That's a routine ball, but but when it was hit, it was you know, the thing just carried Grand Slam. And then uh just a couple situations in this last inning, a couple walks, hit by pitch, and then just a nice piece of hitting by uh Korselman and Pottabaum to kind of open the game up here.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, MOC's been able to blow it open these last two innings, scoring five runs in the bottom of the third, five runs in the bottom of the fourth. And again, it was bottom of the batting order that got it started last inning, bottom of the batting order got it started this inning. Don at the plate, Van Gelder on third.

SPEAKER_17

I think this is a this is a pinch hitter, Mike. Um looks to me, is that number 15?

SPEAKER_02

Well, Thatcher Dun.

SPEAKER_17

Thatcher Dugan? Yeah, Thatcher Dugan.

SPEAKER_15

One ball, no strikes. Moravic looks in. Swing and a miss there for strike one. One ball, one strike. Obviously a different velocity than what they were used to with Nathan.

SPEAKER_17

Well, he's uh you know he's coming in, and and if you're Moravic, you know this is a 0-0 ball game.

SPEAKER_15

This is how you that ball hit out the center field.

SPEAKER_17

There we go.

SPEAKER_15

Catch made out there by Dylan for the third out. MLC scores five runs in the bottom of the fourth. When we come back, it'll be the top of the fifth. Healing trails, 10-3. We'll take a 30-second break.

SPEAKER_13

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_15

Here we are back in Orange City. I'm Mike Skaggs, joined by John Tritz. Healing Trails 10-3. They have the top of the order coming up. JJ Hope, Peyton Erickson, and Caleb LeFavor. You know, this you just want to see some positives now if you're the Healing coaching staff and a Healing fan. Good things to happen here.

SPEAKER_17

You're exactly right, Mike. And I think that's what Coach did. He got him over there in a little bit of a huddle and talked to him and said, okay, you know what? Uh one at bat at a time. Let's do some positive things. You know, I mean, let's make a little bit of a run at this. You know what? In worst case scenario, you you finish strong, and that takes you right into your next doubleheader.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, they've got uh two big doubleheaders, uh, MRAC doubleheaders this week with North and West. Uh so get some positives at the end of this thing. Uh try to chip away and and come back and obviously try to get the win, but uh finish strong at first pitch on the outside corner to hope for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, and it starts with you know Moravic coming in there and get and getting it out, doing his job. Yep. Come in and get out of the inning.

SPEAKER_15

There's the pitch that bounces in there for ball one, one ball, one strike. Yeah, he's he's been impressive the the two outings that he's had so far. I know this one was just uh a batter or two, but uh last week when he came in and did a really great job and uh came in and was steady and was able to get that third out.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the pitch. Pitch on the outside corner for strike two, one ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, JJ's had two really good at bats, and uh he looks you know, he looks really comfortable in there.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the pitch by Heller. High for ball two, two balls, two strikes. Erickson would be up next, followed by Caleb Lefavre. Here's the pitch. Pitch was a little farther outside than the MOC fans would have liked, but brings the count full. Peyton's a really tough hitter with with uh two strikes on him, so yeah. JJ's JJ's just got a great eye. Here's the pitch. Caught him looking for strike three.

SPEAKER_17

I think JJ was looking for something a little more in. I caught the outside corner there, and and he didn't argue, so he knew. Um you know sometimes you go up there and you're looking for something, Mike, and and you know, and pitcher just out guesses you, and and uh that's exactly what what happened there.

SPEAKER_15

Brings Peyton Erickson to the plate. Healing has struck out 13 times tonight. And if you do the math, that's every out. Yes. Peyton squared to bunt, spun away, felt it was inside. Um Pires said, nope, that's a strike, young man. Coming into this game, Healing only struck out 19 times and walked 31.

SPEAKER_17

So you're you're seeing two of two of the best in the state. That's true. Nice.

SPEAKER_15

Erickson fouls that off the plate, no balls, two strikes. Yeah, he just missed that one. Yeah, this definitely a step up in in uh pitching between what they faced last week in those four games and this week.

SPEAKER_17

No, you'll you'll you'll maybe see one or two more pitchers, probably that that throw with this velocity and and this kind of movement uh the rest of the season.

SPEAKER_15

Swing and a miss by Erickson for strike three.

SPEAKER_17

Just to give you guys an idea, I mean, you you got two left-handed pitchers. Um say it for for what it is, Mike, these guys are throwing you know 90 plus and right around 90 uh at the low. So you're not uh these guys are both just uh superb pitchers.

SPEAKER_15

Pitch inside to La Favor for ball one, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_17

And you see that from the left side, it even looks faster.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah. It's safe to say that much like Elon, uh MLC's top two pitchers, uh they're in they're in good hands with those two. Yeah. Pitch low and outside to Caleb for ball two, two balls, no strikes. Caleb lines that back up the middle for a single. He'll stop at first base.

SPEAKER_17

That's just a gorgeous piece of hitting.

SPEAKER_15

Brings up Shaner.

SPEAKER_17

That's what you call a frozen rope single right up the middle.

SPEAKER_15

He walked his first time up and scored a run, uh, struck out his last time up.

SPEAKER_17

Here we go. Two outs again, Mike, and you know, let's manufacture something. You know, and that win has kind of shifted. It's now uh kind of going out left field, which if he gets one up in the air out left field.

SPEAKER_15

Yep, here's the pitch. In there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

You know, and in shamer uh transfer from uh Lotton Brownson uh just talking to his mom a little bit before the game and this is this is exactly what he you know these type of games is what he wanted to see.

SPEAKER_15

Pitch on the outside corner for strike two, no balls, two strikes. Yeah, he's uh he's got a good swing. He doesn't get cheated when he swings. No. Caleb's got a huge lead over there on first base. They're not holding him on. Heller deals. Pitch to the plate. LaFaver with stolen base.

SPEAKER_17

Well, I tell you what, with those long strides, he is deceivingly fast. He was down there in a hurry.

SPEAKER_15

He's he's gotten much faster as uh he's aged.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, he's he had a great jump.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, he's I don't know, eight, nine, ten steps off second base right now.

SPEAKER_17

Great lead.

SPEAKER_15

Dancing back just a little bit. Here's a pitch to Shaner, way outside. Ball two, two balls, two strikes. We're in the top of the fifth inning. MLC scored five runs in the third, five runs in the fourth to make it a ten to three ball game.

SPEAKER_17

Boy, he's off, he's got to be off 15 feet.

SPEAKER_15

Shayner with the pitch. Lefavre goes. That'll be the third out. We'll head to the bottom of the fifth, MOC 10, Healing 3. We'll be back in 30 seconds.

SPEAKER_13

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic Radio station.

SPEAKER_15

We are heading to the bottom of the fifth inning here in Orange City. MOC leads Healing 10-3. Moravic back there, back out there on the mound for start of his second inning of pitching. And we will have a short post-game show. Coach Wesselman said he would be up. It's possible that the way things have gone, he may want to spend some time talking to the players. So we may or may not have him, but we will have a short recap and then we'll call it a night. Do you want to thank everybody for taking time out of their Memorial Day weekend listening to us? And uh we appreciate you listeners and we appreciate the kind comments that we get from people when uh we see you folks out. And uh if you've got family that lives out of town, out of the area, out of state, uh let them know they can download the KFHC app and they can listen to uh every game that we we are scheduled to do. And if there's if we see more that we think we should do, John and I'll put a word in and see what we can do. Four MOC. Boone will lead off.

SPEAKER_17

Now this is where they've kind of started their damage last couple innings, Mike, right here.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, I don't. This is starting to be like Groundhog Day, the movie all over again. Yeah. That pitch was outside for ball one. I would I would rather I didn't like the movie when I watched it the first time. I sure don't want to see it two more or another time tonight.

SPEAKER_17

I I think he's led off the last two innings, hasn't he?

SPEAKER_15

Yes. And made an out both times. Yeah. So maybe if he gets on, yeah, that'll be a good sign for us. Two balls, no strikes to Boone. Here's a pitch from Aravic. Nice pitch. In there for a strike.

SPEAKER_17

With coming back, that's a that's a lot of confidence throwing your curve ball with the two-0 count.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, he may be little in stature, but he doesn't lag for confidence. He believes in his ability to get the ball over the plate. That pitch lined out to nap in center field. Takes a few steps back, makes a catch over his head for out number one. Not a good sign, John. No, not a good sign. The way things have gone the last two innings. That'll bring up Jager, followed by Carrion. We're in the bottom of the fifth. MOC leads Healing 10-3.

SPEAKER_17

You know, you you just got to love the job that Moravic does. He comes in and and it's a it's like it's a 0-0 ball game for him. He's he's just dialing. He's in there. He's he's throwing uh everything's right around the plate, even the balls. That one came out in the inside corner for strike one there.

SPEAKER_15

Very good pitch by Mason on that one. Here he comes back. Basically the same spot, weak liner out to Beck at second base.

SPEAKER_17

And you said that was bad that he made the first out. See, we got two outs right off the bat, Mike. There we go.

SPEAKER_15

All right, well, inning before last. Uh Jager made the second out. So did he uh two down for MOC brings Kerry into the plate. Heller would follow if Carrion is able to extend the inning. 10-3 MOC, bottom of the fifth.

SPEAKER_17

Boy, it's a good spot. Good spot, right on the outside corner there, right?

SPEAKER_15

Tried to get him to chase it.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, Peyton did a good job framing. It was a little bit low. Peyton did a really good job framing that.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the pitch by Moravik. Pitch fouled off for strike one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

You know, he's got a little Greg Maddox in him, you know. He just he just spots the outside corner. Inside corner, inside, outside.

SPEAKER_15

Soft liner out to right field. I'm not sure that Nathan saw that coming out there. He kind of put his glove up.

SPEAKER_17

That was a weird, it was like a corkscrew, corkscrew hit out to right field there. He just kind of got it off the bat, off the handle of his bat, and it just kind of one of those uh just a little loop.

SPEAKER_15

Carrying on first base. Heller steps in with two outs. MOC leads Bishop Healing 10 to 3 in the bottom of the fifth. Here's the pitch. In there high for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_17

And just come back and don't change anything up here, Moravik. You know, just you just come in and and just keep hitting those spots.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the pitch. High again for ball two, two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah. Take a deep breath here. Slow yourself down a little bit.

SPEAKER_15

Well, you know, last week when he came in, he had four-pitch walk, and then he struck him out. So here's the pitch to the plate. Swing and a miss.

SPEAKER_17

Good comeback.

SPEAKER_15

Two balls, one strike. Carrying on first. MLC leads Bishop Healing 10-3. We're in the bottom of the fifth inning.

SPEAKER_17

I think he was swinging for the fences on that one.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the pitch by Moravic. Swinging a miss again for strike two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Good job changing it up by Moravic. You know, fastball, curveball. And then come back down here with a nice low, low sinker. It's got him off balance a little bit.

SPEAKER_15

Moravic checks the runner at first. Just missed. Just missed inside. Full count. Runner will be off on this pitch. Three balls, two strikes to Heller, two outs. Carrying on first. Good throw at second would have had him. Moravic threw over to Aiden Favor at first and throw down to second was just a little off. Hope made a good job, did a good job stopping that from heading out into left field.

SPEAKER_17

Great move over to first base by Moravic. Kid just took off. He took off as soon as Moravic made a move, and like you said, a good throw has him at second base. But now you got a guy in scoring position here, Mike.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, full count to Heller. McCarty on deck. JJ Hope ranges to his right. Bounces it over to LeFavre. Gets away from LeFaver. Carrion will score from second to make the score 11-3.

SPEAKER_17

Great play by Hope. Snagging that thing and getting out of his getting it out early. Just a one hopper to first base that Aiden couldn't handle.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, JJ had to go a long way to his right to make that play.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, he got it out of his out of his glove quick. Nice quick throw over, just a little little shallow, and Aiden couldn't come up with it.

SPEAKER_15

McCarty steps in. We're in the bottom of the fifth. MOC leads Bishop Healing 11 to 3. Two outs.

SPEAKER_17

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_15

Called a balk on Mason. Not sure what he did there, but there's another balk, so Heller will go down to second. Mason toes the rubber here. Looks in for the sign. Delivers to the plate. First pitch is high for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Just uh, you know, make them hit the ball. Let's let's make a play here. Get out of this any.

SPEAKER_15

Robin checks back to second. Delivers. Another pitch high. Ball two. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, but I think that ball kind of got him rattled a little bit. He's just gotta just take a deep breath here and and uh I don't think that guy's going anywhere, so just kind of reach in, follow through, and get that get that strike.

SPEAKER_15

There's a pitch to the plate. Outside corner for strike one. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

Beautiful pitch. Just exactly what he did. He kind of took his time on that pitch, Mike, and got back and gathered himself.

SPEAKER_15

Bottom of the fifth. MOC leads Healing 11 to 3, 2 outs, runner on second base. Robbie takes a long look in. Checks back at second. To the plate. High for ball three. Three balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

I mean a walk doesn't hurt you. It just kind of gives you the opportunity. But you really like to just get out of this inning and and uh and obviously get our bats going.

SPEAKER_15

Mason deals to the plate. Nice. In there for strike two. Batter thought it was ball four. Yep. Tossed his bat toward the dugout and started to take his gloves off. And now he's apologizing to the umpire for that action. Full count on McCarty. Mason looks in, delivers. Pitch is high for ball four. Runners at first and second, two outs. MOC leads 11-3 in the bottom of the fifth. Potobaum steps in. Flew out to the center fielders first time up, reached on an error, and was hit by pitch last time up. Mason steps off. Wants to go through the signs again. Potterbaum steps back in. Mason comes set. Here's the pitch. Outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Just missed on that outside corner.

SPEAKER_15

You know, Healing was rolling along, had a three to nothing lead, and things look comfortable, and you had gas went on the mound, and the wheels just kind of came off in the bottom of the third inning.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah.

SPEAKER_15

That pitch outside for ball two, two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, there's a couple of those at batside. I'm sure Nathan would like back. A couple of those walks. I mean, he I think he had full count on two of them. Um you know, I mean, you get that pitch. Changes the inning.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, the pitch high for ball three, three balls, no strikes. Of course, the big blow was the grand slam home run by Korselman in the bottom of the third.

SPEAKER_17

Like I like I was talking earlier, Mike, you know, that win was was just hollering out to that to the to right field at that time, and now it's just basically straight up and down.

SPEAKER_15

Four-pitch walk to Potterbaum. That'll load the bases. Base hit here, could possibly end the game.

SPEAKER_17

Looks like Coach Wesselman's gonna come out and talk to the young man. I don't know if he's gonna make a change here.

SPEAKER_15

He's gonna make a change. Looks like Alex Rodriguez, A-rod, is gonna go in. We will take a 30-second break here.

SPEAKER_14

SPEAKER_13

And now, back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_15

Well, John, that's two uncharacteristic pitching performances by the Healing uh pitchers tonight. Gas went Moravik, uh nothing like what we're used to. And as Moravic was coming off the field, Caleb Lefaver met him out there, patted him on the back, and said, let this one go and let's get ready for the rest of the season.

SPEAKER_17

I've been kind of anxious to see Rodriguez throw and we're getting an opportunity to see him tonight, Mike. Um heard some good things about the young man, and and I think this is an opportunity for uh Coach Welsman to get him some to get him some pitches and and see what he can do.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, he's a junior. This, like you said, this is our first chance to see him on the mound. And uh so far he's doing a good job of showing some control, so we'll see what it looks like whenever batters step in.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, I mean.

SPEAKER_15

MOC has the bases loaded here in the bottom of the fifth inning. Korselman will step in, obviously a very dangerous hitter.

SPEAKER_17

Here again, Mike. We talked about two outs and a lot of this damage done with first two guys were out. I mean, this has all been done with two outs.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, MOCs this MOC leads this one 11-3. And yeah, they scored their one run this inning with two outs. Scored four runs in the last inning with two outs. Five in the bottom of the third with two outs. Dangerously close to a run rule here. If we're not able to get out of this inning, and MOC's able to put two more runs on the board.

SPEAKER_17

You know, one thing I like about what Coach Wesselman's doing is I haven't seen him like lose any of his composure tonight. He's he's been very calm when he's talking to the pitchers. You know, they they've had a bad inning. He stayed stayed confident in them. You know, patted him, basically he just patted him on the back. He said we'll get him next time.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, there's definitely brighter days ahead.

SPEAKER_17

Yep.

SPEAKER_15

A-Rod looks in, delivers first pitch. Corsman grounds that to third. Shayner will step on the bag. Arod, one pitch, one out. That ends the inning. We go to the top of the sixth. MOC leads Bishop Healan. 11 to 3. We'll be back in 30 seconds.

SPEAKER_12

SPEAKER_13

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_15

We are back in Orange City. We're heading to the top of the sixth inning. MOC leads this one 11-3. Healan will send Carroll, Gaswent, and Aiden Lefavre to the plate. A-Rod did a good job.

SPEAKER_17

He did. One pitch, threw an inside fastball, got uh got the ground out to the third baseman. I mean, that's that's all you can ask for. Came in, did his job.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, he did. This uh this lived up to its billing for two two and a third innings, two and two third innings, and uh MLC started hitting the ball really well and was able to put five runs in the bottom of the third, five runs in the bottom of the fourth, added another one in the bottom of the fifth. Um C pitching tonight has been phenomenal. They've got we're starting the sixth inning, and they have 15 strikeouts. So every out that Healing has recorded tonight has been by strikeout. That's incredible.

SPEAKER_17

I mean, they're they're keeping it right around the the plate. I mean, we've had uh two or three players that have made some good contact, uh LaFaver being being one of them a couple hits up the middle, but other than that, uh Yeah, they've had our number at the plate.

SPEAKER_15

Carroll steps in, that first pitch is low. Ball one, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_17

You know, Tommy's here's Tommy's one of them. Tommy's taking some good swings at both these guys, you know, and and uh which which I like to see. I mean, I like them being aggressive.

SPEAKER_15

That pitch inside for ball two, two balls, no strikes. Gaswent would be up next.

SPEAKER_17

Seeing these two guys, Mike, is doing nothing but helping us down the road.

SPEAKER_15

Yep. That pitch inside for ball three, three balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, you see somebody like this, and you're not shell-shocked down the road when you see another flamethrower come in. And and you and it just gives you a little more confidence.

SPEAKER_15

That pitch in there for a strike. And we know for sure that Healing will see a couple of flamethrowers in a couple weeks that team out by Southern Hills Mall.

SPEAKER_16

So, yeah.

SPEAKER_15

I mean that pitch low and inside for ball four. Carroll draws the walk.

SPEAKER_02

Next up with Crusaders, Gas.

SPEAKER_15

Carroll on first, gas went, steps into the steps into the batter's box. He'll be followed by Aiden Lefavre. So let's get some positives out of this inning, a run or two, and and something that we can hang our hats on moving forward.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, you want to manufacture something here.

SPEAKER_15

That pitch is inside for a ball, ball one. One ball, no strikes. Carroll at first, gas win at the plate. He'll be followed by Aidan Lefabre and Chase Beck. Heller from the wind up, he looks in. Delivers. Oh, that pitch hit him.

SPEAKER_02

Next up.

SPEAKER_15

Gaswin heads down to first base. So Healens got runners at first and second. No outs. Hayden LeFaver steps in. Now would be a good time for this young man to get his first base hit.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, he uh he plucked him pretty good. And and uh I'm not so sure, you know. Gaswin plucked a couple of their players earlier in the game, and I'm not so sure that might not have been a little bit of both benches have been warned. Yep. Yeah, the umpires did a good job. He came out right away because uh Gaswin was not happy after he got hit.

SPEAKER_15

No, and it's been a frustrating frustrating night for Nathan. So that getting hit just added to it.

SPEAKER_16

Yep.

SPEAKER_15

LaFaver steps in, runners at first and second, no outs. Healing trails this one 11 to 3. We're in the top of the sixth inning. Heller deals to the plate, bounces that one in there, gets away from the catcher. He's he doesn't see it. Carroll advances to third. Gaslin heads down to second. So Healing's got runners at second and third with no outs.

SPEAKER_17

Well, that's the second time that's happened, Mike. That he's lost it. And uh, you know, if there's anything that uh I'm sure Coach Cardi's gonna be talking about is the composure of the young man behind the plate. I mean, he's he's done some really good things, but there have been there's been some spots they get into a tight game. You know, I'm sure they're gonna talk to him about some of these situations about getting down, getting his body in front of those balls.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah.

SPEAKER_15

That pitch inside gets away from the catcher. Carroll scores from third. Gas win advances to third.

SPEAKER_17

Yep.

SPEAKER_15

That will make the score 11 to 4 healing.

SPEAKER_17

Good piece of running by Tommy Carroll. I mean, that ball didn't get away. That got it as soon as that ball got away from the catcher, it only rolled back about 10, about 15 feet. And uh Tommy was Tommy had a great jump on that.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, he did a good job getting in there under the tag. So it's two balls, no strikes, a little favor. Chase Beck is due up next. Gas went down at third. Heller steps off. Not sure there's much of a threat of Nathan running, especially down 11-4 in the top of the sixth. Heller looks in. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss by LaFavre. Two balls, one strike. Nice cut by Aiden. The young catcher heading out to talk to Heller here. The other thing is with the young catcher, uh, and you know, we're up here in the press box, we can't hear it, but his teammates need to help him out as well. They need to let him know where that ball is.

SPEAKER_17

There's no question about it. And he's gonna learn from this. I mean, let me tell you, I mean, you catching a lefty is not easy anyway. You know, he's throwing 90 miles an hour and curveballs that break into the dirt. I mean, it's tough. And uh it's not an easy task, and and for this being his first uh varsity experience, that ball obviously got in there for a strike inside corner.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the pitch of favor. That is strike three. Strikeout number sixteen.

SPEAKER_17

Can't always tell if this guy's gonna ring him or not because he's got about a three-second delay on his third strike call.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, we understand there's a six or seven second delay on the radio call and had the uh delay from the umpire there. That pitch low and outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Top of the sixth inning, MOC leads Bishop Heal in 11 to 4. Nathan Gass went on third with one out, chase back at the plate. Dylan Knapp would do up next.

SPEAKER_17

You know, we were talking about the positives, Mike, and and and we've seen a couple of those this inning. Oh a little bit high, but take that one.

SPEAKER_15

One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

He's gotta get he's gotta give us one now, Mike. He called that one, so he's gotta get that next one down the middle. He's got to give us that one.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the pitch. That pitch inside for ball two, two balls, one strike. Beck danced back to get away from that one. Heller looks in. Ready? Good swing by Beck there. Gets away from the catcher, but not far enough for Nathan to score. Two balls, two strikes, one out. Dylan Knapp do up next.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, Beck's not, he's not off on him very far. Just choke up on the bat here a little bit, protect the plate.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the pitch. Outside, ball three, three balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, if you watch Peyton, when Peyton's catching, you see him, Peyton working inside, outside, and really framing that corner, and that's one of the things that this this young this young kid, he doesn't quite do that.

SPEAKER_15

Here's a pitch. Ball four. We had to wait on that one, folks, because we weren't sure if he was gonna ring him up or not. Runners at first and third, two outs. Brings up Dylan Knapp.

SPEAKER_17

We already talking about the positive, Mike, and here we go. I mean, we're seeing some good things, and our that you know, our our guys aren't giving up, good at bats, uh, you know, and they're not swinging at stuff outside of the zone, and that as a coach, that's something you you know you you harp on that and practice, and and for them to uh to do that in a game, you know.

SPEAKER_15

First pitch into Dylan for a strike, strike one.

SPEAKER_17

To have the patience and and and to have good at bats. I'm sure he's gonna come up and he's gonna he's gonna talk about that a little bit as being a positive.

SPEAKER_15

Heller delivers to the plate. Outside for ball one, one ball, one strike. Beck on first, gas went on third. Healing trails this one 11-4 in the top of the sixth inning. Heller checks the runner at first, delivers that pitch in there for strike two, one ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Had a little bit of a little bit of a break at the end on that, right in there for a strike.

SPEAKER_15

Heller delivers. That was strike three, folks. Not quite sure how, but that was strike three. That's the 17th strikeout for MOC pitching tonight. That brings J.J. Hope to the plate. Runners at first and third, two outs.

SPEAKER_17

Okay, now that one was about the longest delay we saw, Mike. It's about four seconds before he rung in.

SPEAKER_15

Peck takes off. Hope fouls that off down the third baseline out of play. Strike one. No balls one strike.

SPEAKER_17

Good cut by JJ. He was right on it.

SPEAKER_15

Beck takes off for second. Grounder to short. That is the first out that Healing has recorded tonight. There was not a strikeout. We'll go to the bottom of the sixth, Crusader's Trail, 11 to 4. We'll take a 30-second break.

SPEAKER_13

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_15

Welcome back to Orange City, everyone. MOC leads Bishop Healen 11 to 4. Alex Rodriguez back out on the mound for his second stretch.

SPEAKER_17

He just started his warmups here. Security National Bank.

SPEAKER_15

Sneaky's, that would be good about now.

SPEAKER_17

It would be. Better than that hot dog we had before the game.

SPEAKER_15

It was good, but Sneaky's would have been a lot better. We're gonna get some help from the MOC AD here. They've got a pinch hitter coming up. So it'll be interesting to see what Rodriguez does here with the full inning.

SPEAKER_17

I can't see the number on that on that player, Mike.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, the uniforms are black and the numbers are purple, and it's hard to see. There, first pitch in there for a strike. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

Tucker Dugan looks like. Number 24.

unknown

Tucker Don. Yep.

SPEAKER_17

Is that how you pronounce that, Don?

SPEAKER_15

That pitch bounces away from the catcher. One ball, one strike. Rodriguez looks in, delivers. That pitch in there for a strike. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, we talked about the positive. Nice guy, you know. We had some good at bats. Got a got a run back. Like to see uh Rodriguez, what he can do in a full inning.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, here's the wind up. Popped out to JJ Hope. It's shortstop for the first out.

SPEAKER_02

That's a problem.

SPEAKER_15

Out number one.

SPEAKER_17

Here we go. Peyton sitting up on the outside corner there.

SPEAKER_15

Ball bounces in there for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Peyton's kind of deakin him. He lines his body up on the inside corner, but then gives that outside corner with the put. I tell you what, that's just a beautiful piece of catching, actually. Especially when the guy on deck's trying to pick and let you let you know if it's inside outside.

SPEAKER_15

Two balls, no strikes. That's pitch lineback up the middle for a base hit.

SPEAKER_02

Boone.

SPEAKER_15

Boone will step in with one out, runner on first base. MOC leads this from 11 to 4. We are in the bottom of the sixth inning.

SPEAKER_17

So maybe that means no runs for MOC.

SPEAKER_15

Rodriguez steals to the plate. Pitches way inside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. One out, runner at first. Healing trails 11 to 4.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, Rodriguez kind of has a almost uh kind of a short arm uh the way he throws to home plate.

SPEAKER_15

Pitch got away from Peyton. He bounced it down to JJ. Runners able to advance.

SPEAKER_17

Now that's one of those ones. He should have just picked it up, made it, got got away from him, and and uh but no harm, no harm done there. Uh JJ scooped that up.

SPEAKER_15

Two balls, no strikes. There's the pitch. Pitch is high, gets away from Peyton. Runner will advance on the wild pitch. Three balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, I think he crossed him up, Mike. Peyton wasn't looking for that. That's why he's walking out with him. I think Peyton was looking for a curveball. And uh and Rodriguez threw a high fastball. And that's when you just take your mask off and you walk out and have a little conversation and remind him of the signals. Yeah.

SPEAKER_15

I know you're new here, kid, but A-Rod looks in. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_16

Nice pitch.

SPEAKER_15

On that inside corner for a strike. Three balls, one strike. Runner third base. MLC leads healing 11 to 4. We're in the bottom of the six.

SPEAKER_17

Gotta battle back here.

SPEAKER_15

Popped up to Beck at second base for the second out.

SPEAKER_17

It's one of those screwball hits though. Sometimes that thing's got a little got a little back spin on it, hits your glove and bounces out. So it's actually a pretty good play by Beck to make sure he secured that ball in the glove.

SPEAKER_15

That'll bring Jaeger to the plate. First pitch on the outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

Good pitch by Rodriguez. Painting that outside corner.

SPEAKER_15

Martinez takes a long look in. Comes set. Here's the pitch. On the outside corner again. Same spot for strike two. No balls, two strikes. MOC leads this one 11-4. We're in the bottom of the sixth. And that pitch on the outside corner for strike three caught him looking.

SPEAKER_17

Beautiful pitch. Nice ending for the young man.

SPEAKER_15

We'll head to the top of the seventh. We'll be back in 30 seconds.

SPEAKER_14

SPEAKER_13

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_15

We are back in Orange City and the Dutch are making a pitching change. Who is it, John?

SPEAKER_17

Carter McDuggan.

SPEAKER_15

Done a nice job pitching, caught that last batter, struck him out looking.

SPEAKER_17

Let me uh let me change that. Carter Van Gelder, Mike. Carter Van Gelder is now pitching for the MOC Dutch.

SPEAKER_15

Healan will send Erickson, Caleb Lefaver, and Shaner to the plate.

SPEAKER_17

Throws with a little velocity about the same.

SPEAKER_15

Peyton has struck out all three times up, so he's due to have a positive experience of the plate. First pitch low for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Pitch way outside for ball two, two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Well, you really had a wicked, wicked snap on that pitch. That thing, that thing broke six feet outside.

SPEAKER_15

Needed to break about five feet last that was way off the plate.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah.

SPEAKER_15

That pitch was right there. Fouled off for strike one. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

Kind of a whip motion. He's a tall, lanky, tall, lanky right hander.

SPEAKER_15

Oh, broke that in there beautifully for strike two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_17

That was that curved ball that he threw way wide earlier. That thing, that broke off the table. Outside corner.

SPEAKER_15

Two balls, two strikes to Erickson. Healing trails 11-4. Lineback up the middle by Peyton. Good job of hitting there.

SPEAKER_17

Very good job of hitting. That thing was breaking toward the outside corner, and he sat back, waited, and took it to center field. Good piece of hitting by Peyton.

SPEAKER_15

Here comes Heaton to run for Erickson. 11-4, top of the seventh inning. Brings Caleb Lefavre to the plate. Shayner will follow him.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, Caleb's just had a great night at the plate. Couple ropes up the middle.

SPEAKER_15

First pitch low and inside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Hits that one sharply between short and third. Another good job of hitting there by Caleb.

SPEAKER_17

Caleb's had a great night at the play. Just beautiful. Inside out took that ball to left field. You know, he's he's a he's a left-handed batter, so that ball was inside on his fist, and he just took it. Inside out, right in between short and third base. Just a beautiful piece of hitting.

SPEAKER_15

That'll bring Schainer to the plate with no outs. Heal and trails 11-4. Trying to end this game with some positives, and so far they're headed in that direction, John.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, I've seen some good things these last two innings, and I'm sure Coach Wesselman will emphasize that.

SPEAKER_15

That pitch on the outside corner for strike one.

SPEAKER_17

I mean Rodriguez coming in and throwing a nice inning.

SPEAKER_15

High for ball one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

We've actually had some really good at bats these last two and a half innings, Mike. I mean taking them deep into the count.

SPEAKER_15

Ball bounces in there. Two balls, one strike. Tommy Carroll do up next.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah.

SPEAKER_15

He'll be followed by Gaswin. We're in the top of the seventh. MOC leads healing eleven to four.

SPEAKER_17

Coach is calling a timeout talking to him and something's going on here. He's bringing everybody over. My guess is Coach Coach Taylor gave a signal here, and somebody's off that I don't know if he had a double steal going. I don't know if that was supposed to be a hit and run, but he immediately called timeout and brought all the runners and the hitter over to him. That's the only the only thing I could think of why you would call a timeout in that situation.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, with two strikes. Can't imagine they're putting putting a bunt on or anything else on. Runners at first and second, no outs here in the top of the seventh for Healing. Shayner at the plate. Healing trails, 11-4. Pitch. On that outside corner for strike three. Beautiful pitch. That's the first out of the inning for Bishop Healing. Brings Tommy Carroll to the plate.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, Shaner knew it right after the catcher caught it.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the pitch. Outside. Bounces away from the catcher, not far enough for anybody to advance. One ball, no strikes. That's the 19th out of the game, and it's the 18th strikeout that MOC pitching has tonight.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah.

SPEAKER_15

There's the pitch. Nice swing by Tommy. Fouled off by Carroll down the third baseline. One ball, one strike. Yeah, he really turned on that one. Gas went due up next. Should Healing be able to extend this inning?

SPEAKER_17

Well, Tommy's had some good cuts, so just hasn't, you know, hasn't panned out to a hit or anything.

SPEAKER_15

Here's the pitch. Oh, that was a big breaking ball that just missed. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

That thing broke off the table.

SPEAKER_15

That was a lot of break on that one. Yeah. Two balls, one strike. Runners of first and second, one out. Bishop Healing trails 11-4, top of the seventh. That pitch is high for ball three. Three balls, one strike. Healing trying to get a little something going here in the top of the seventh inning. There's the pitch. Swung on and fouled off. Brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes, one out. LaFaver on first. Heaton on second. Gaswent waiting his turn. There's the pitch. Hit to the third baseman. Steps on the bag. Throws to first.

SPEAKER_17

And Tommy Carroll beat it out. Yeah, Tommy got down there. Great job by Carroll hustling down there to avoid the double play because that was a bang banger. Hit hard hit the third baseman. Stepped on it. And uh Tommy showed showed his athleticism and good speed down the line.

SPEAKER_15

Still have runners at first and second. Now with two outs, brings Nathan Gaswin to the plate. Hit by a pitch the last time up. He steps in. First pitch breaks in there for strike one. That was a big break. Nathan turned.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, he throws. He's got a great hook. He uh really bends that thing. I mean, that thing starts up at your shoulders.

SPEAKER_15

LaFaver takes third on the pitch.

SPEAKER_17

You know, they weren't really holding him on, and the pitcher wasn't checking him. You know, you can't blame him. Yeah, I'm surprised it took him that long. Yeah.

SPEAKER_15

That pitch was a ball, one ball, one strike. Carroll on first, LeFavre on third, two outs, gas went at the plate. Healing trails 11 to 4 in the top of the seventh. Pitcher looks in. That pitch is outside for ball two. Two balls, one strike. Outfield playing gas went really shallow. Yeah.

SPEAKER_17

Now he's he's more than likely going to come back with that bender. I mean, he he throws that bender in for a strike. That's it.

SPEAKER_15

In there for ball three, three balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_17

Boy, he just missed, didn't he?

SPEAKER_15

Yep. Aiden Lefaver do up next. Should Heal him be able to extend this inning? Here's the pitch. That pitch in there for a strike. Outside corner. Full count. Carroll will be off with the pitch. Here's the pitch. Outside corner caught looking for strike three. That will end it. MLC Floyd Valley beats Bishop Healing. 11-4. We'll take a two-minute break and we'll be back with the post-game show.

SPEAKER_17

Welcome back here to uh Orange City at Dutchman Field, uh home of uh MOC Floyd Valley Dutch. Uh Bishop Healan. We're kind of looking to see if Coach Wesseman was going to make his way up here. And he's out there talking to the team right now. So, Mike, let's uh kind of let's kind of do a little bit of a wrap of the game. Um started off, Healing looked really good in the first couple, two, three innings. Uh Gaswin had it going on, pitching inside, outside, got through the lineup unscathed, through their first nine at batters, or probably, you know, it was kind of the second time through that really opened it up for the Dutch. The uh couple walks, hit by pitch. Um they're top six at hitters, obviously, very good hitters, contact hitters, and they make things happen.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, they do. Their top six are very good, but for two of those innings, it was the bottom of the batting order, they got things going. They uh scored five runs in the bottom of the third, five runs in the bottom of the fourth, added another one in the fifth, and in the bottom of the third, all five of those runs are scored with two outs.

SPEAKER_17

That's correct. We can and we talked about that on the way up here, you know. I mean, how doing things with two outs, and the MOC did that tonight.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, it's definitely definitely not the uh excuse me, performance or ending that Healing wanted. But they're gonna learn from this and grow, and you know, it's number one team in the state. Um, and it was their first game, and and uh they're impressive.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, let's talk a little bit about uh early uh before the game, we talked to Coach McCarty, and he talked about those two pitchers and kind of their strengths and and and their weaknesses, and it definitely panned out tonight. I mean, the inexperience of the catcher, we saw some of that. I'm sure that he'll get better as the year goes on, and and and they'll work with him. But you know, it it it can't be an easy task catching these two lefties that that just throw throw BBs and then they got breakers that break off the table. Um some positives for the Crusaders just and I and I'm just gonna name a few of them. I wrote a couple things down, is uh late in the game we didn't give up. We saw some good things. We saw Rodriguez come in, got four straight outs. You know, so that's a good outing by Rodriguez. We had some really good at bats in the sixth and seventh inning. Um manufactured a run, and I think we ended up leaving three or four guys on base in the last two innings. So those are some things you can you can work on going forward.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, we'll uh uh uh we'll we'll definitely see a different healing team on Wednesday whenever they take the field against North. North North is a good ball club, so it's not gonna be an easy one, but uh, I know that healing's gonna have a bad taste in their mouth after tonight, and they're gonna want to uh uh make a good showing. And uh that's that's when we'll be back, folks. We will be back with you on Wednesday at 5.15 pregame, 5.30 first pitch from North High School. John, anything else you want to finish with?

SPEAKER_17

I'd like to give a shout out to my wife, Lise. Thank you for letting me do this and to Catholic Radio and and our people there. Thank you so much for letting us come into your house and and uh what a great atmosphere tonight, and uh thank you very much.

SPEAKER_15

Looking forward to working with you some more this season, and uh everybody, good night. We got to thank the the Hades. We gotta thank the Hades too. We did a good job. He had the air conditioning flowing on him, and we had the fan blowing on us. It was a great job. Uh appreciate everybody, and we will talk to you again on Wednesday afternoon.

SPEAKER_17

Thank you, Mike.
