And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station. Welcome back to Bishop Mueller Field. Like to thank Coach Andy Osborne for stopping in and letting us visit with him and catching everybody up on what he's been up to since he retired from baseball and back being able to spend a lot more time with his family. And thanks to Tim Swedeen for his comments and talking about uh Catholic radio. Yeah, what a what a great interview with Coach Osborne. Um just a class guy, and just I mean, knows baseball through and through. Fun. That was that was fun. That was to be able to listen to it, and it was fun to watch him when he was coaching. Yeah, and you can uh you can tell he misses it, but he's where he's where he needs to be, and that's uh that's the important thing. Stepping in to lead off for Sergeant Bluff will be third baseman Gavin Warren. Gaswin's on the mound. That first pitch is outside for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Really looking forward to this uh to this game, Mike, because uh uncharacteristic of uh Gaswin in his last outing. And and just anxious to see him back on the mound, doing what he does best, working inside, outside, and getting back in that groove. And he needs this game. Yeah, he does. Two balls, no strikes. Yeah, if if you know rules allowed it, uh it would have been good to get him right back out there as quickly as possible last Wednesday against North. But his pitch count was such he needed some time off. Uh was required to take some time off that pitch in there for a strike, two balls, one strike. But the competitor that he is, I know he wanted to get back out there as quickly as possible. Brody Wegger is on on deck. That pitch fouled off the plate. Two balls, two strikes. Yeah, good pitch. And Gaswin, just like Cliffaver, he works fast, gets the ball, gets the signal, and he goes. He's probably got to check cows for his dad sometime tonight and wants to hurry and get oh, there we go. Yay! Rung him up on that one. Caught him looking for strike out number one. That will bring Brody Wager to the plate. That was about as good a changeup as you're gonna see. Took it just a little velocity off of that thing and and really got that guy just caught him looking. Yeah, this umpire is gonna be hard to figure out because he does his called third strike action just backwards from what you normally see. That pitch to Wagger in there for a strike. No balls, one strike. I had a chance to see, I saw the home plate umpire from the first game in between games, and I just told him what a wonderful job he did. Yeah. That pitch by Gas went outside. One ball, one strike. Pitcher Gavin Merrill is due up next. Here's the pitch by Nathan. Oh, nice job. This one doesn't have that same outside corner that the first one had. Two balls, one strike. Just missed. I mean, and it was outside. That ball was outside. That's but I mean, you know, you get one guy calling it, one guy not. Swing and a miss for strike two. Two balls, two strikes. One out here in the top of the first, just getting started, no score. Yeah. He's coming at him. Pitch by Nathan. That ball hit out to JJ at short, scoops it up. Nice long throw over to Aiden Lefavre at first for the second out. Six to three. Two down. That'll bring Gavin Merrill to the plate. You know, that's not an easy out. You know, uh, Waggers got some serious speed going down that line, and and JJ made that one look easy. Yeah, he did. It kind of hit the heel of his glove. He was able to hold on to it and make the throw over. Gaswin Deals. Oh, that ball just pass Shaner in third base. That's gonna be trouble. Get it down. Good job on uh Sedmarovic out in left field. Merrill held to a single there. Runner at first two outs. That will bring Emmett Knife to the plate. I mean, that should have been a double. He did a great job getting to that ball and getting it in to the relay quick. Showing that determination and maturity uh somewhere other than the mound. Yeah, and that was a that was a hit all the way. What great baseball talk, you and Osborne. I mean, just isn't it just fun? I mean, somebody that knows the game that much getting back to the interview. Just it was it was really fun to just listen to him. Yeah, I enjoyed that. It was a good interview. It's good to see him. Yeah. We will have to get his wife up here and see if she feels that maybe he should go back to coaching. First pitch in there for a ball, one ball, no strikes. I told him he can sit in for me a color anytime, but then I'm afraid he'd never get out. It'd be 17 years. Nathan checks a runner at first, deals to the plate. That ball fouled down the third baseline. One ball, one strike. I'd like to see him cut that outside corner just a little sharper. A kid like this, you don't want to make a mistake and leave that ball down the middle. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Two outs, Marrill at first, no score. There's something going on here. Coaches. Um, was it him or was that Lafavre that got called for that? Or did they both? They both did. Yeah, I think so. I'm sure. And I'm sure Coach Wessman just yelled out to remind him. Come set for a nice long time. Delivers to the plate. Swing and a miss for strike three. That's out number three. Two strikeouts in the inning for Gaswent. We will head to the bottom of the first. No score. We'll be back in 30. And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station. We are back here in the bottom of the first inning. On the mound for Sergeant Bluff here in game number two is senior Gavin Merrill. He comes in with a record of one and one. Teams are hitting 143 against him. He's given up six hits, three one, three runs, one of those earned. He's walked three, hit one batter, and struck out eleven. And his ERA is.70. So uh teams are having a hard time putting barrel on ball whenever it comes to facing this young man. And healing will send JJ Hope, Peyton Erickson, and Caleb LeFaver to the plate. LeFavor will be DH for Mason Moravic, who is out in left field. Yeah, this uh Merrill comes with a little more velocity than Huffman. Um be anxious to see the adjustment these kids have, and his ball moves a little bit more just just from watching the warm-up. Uh got a little more outside in, kind of a little wiggle to it. So we'll see. See what JJ does and see where that third baseman lines up here. Here's the first pitch by Merrill. JJ grounds that foul down the third baseline for strike one. No balls, one strike. Well, there's one thing I have noticed today, Coach Must talked to him about over the weekend is we are we have been very aggressive on the first couple pitches. Merrill deals. Pitch inside, one ball, one strike. Yeah, and I'm sure I'm I'm sure and you and I have commented on that about how many pitches we seem to take that are strikes. That pitch outside for ball two, two balls, one strike. Yeah, because I've hardly seen that at all today, and and definitely more aggressive. Pitch by Merrill. Hit out to the second baseman, scoops it, throws over to first, out number one. Erickson retired. That will bring, I mean, Hope retired, that will bring Erickson to the plate. Yeah, you got good solid contact on that. Try to take it to right. He got a couple of those to sneak through in the first game, but uh just hit that one right to the second baseman. Here's the pitch to Peyton. Yeah, it's in there for strike one, no balls, one strike. First curveball we got to see. That was a nice curveball. And the pitch. Yeah. Inside corner for strike two, no balls, two strikes. Yeah, jammed him. Jammed him on the inside. That's a good pitch. Merrill comes set and the pitch. That's in there for strike three. Peyton Erickson goes down looking for out number two. And that will bring Caleb LeFaver to the plate. That's uncharacteristic of Peyton to look at all three pitches like that. And they were good pitches. They weren't bad pitches. Yeah, they were special. There's Peace. Oh. Caleb, that bounces out to the left fielder. He's unable to field it. LaFaver reaches with a single, and that will bring Shaner to the plate. Here we go. Two outs. Talk about it. We've talked about it every game. Two outs. What can you do with two outs? Let's manufacture something here. Hopefully we can score a lot of runs. We're in the bottom of the first. There's no score. LaFaver at first with two outs, and Shaner steps in. Merrill delivers. Pitch in there for a strike. No balls, one strike. I wouldn't be surprised to see Caleb take off. We've seen him steal. I mean, he's got that long stride and he gets off. Man, he's way off. The short short stop's not gonna be able to cover second base. He is so easy. He is so far over toward third. Yeah that. Yeah, he had me going on that one too. I thought he was going. I thought he was gone. He still sometimes looked like a looks like a baby giraffe trying to get his legs under him, but he's he's deceptively fast. And there he goes. That pitch is low. Lafaver with the stolen base. I like that. That's aggressive. You know, you're ahead on the count here, two and one. You got a good hitter up. Got a guy on second base. Now we can do some things. Um the way Caleb gets over there, he's got that pitcher just a little nervous. You know, he's a little jittery with him over there. He's behind on the count. He's got to come with something good here. Merrill looks back at Lefavre at second and the pitch. Oh, he just missed that. Big swing and a miss there by Schainer. Two balls, two strikes. Wow. Yeah, he just missed that. For him, right in his wheelhouse. Errol checks LaFaver back at second in the pitch. Yeah. That is in there, caught looking for strike three. So Healan retires, is retired with La Favre stranded at second. We will go to the top of the second, and there is no score. We'll be back in 30. I just uh saw young Mr. Hayes's grandpa outside the uh concession stand in between the games and had a nice little talk with him. He's now the AD down there at Sergeant Bluff and uh just a good friend. Known him a long time and a good man, and and uh his grandson's anything like uh his dad and grandpa. He's a he's a standout guy. That's all I got to say. I liked how Gat Gaswin looked in that first inning, Mike. Um really uh really went after it, hit the corners, um just just solid, confident, and that's that's what we're used to seeing. Yeah. Oh, just that ball lined over back at second base by Hayes for a single. That'll put a runner on first base with no outs. And that will bring Tyndall to the plate. Yeah, he kind of hung that curveball just a little bit. I know he uh he probably liked that pitch back. Uh he likes to get that thing low and on and uh you know either on the inside or outside corner. Cassman will pitch pitch from the stretch here with the runner on first base. Delivery to the plate, squares around. Looked like he offered, but the umpire said no. That is ball one. One ball, no strikes. Yeah, I thought he was gonna lay that down, you know, play a little small ball, and and uh Shane ran a little bit at third just in case. He's not off. There's a pitch. That pitch is outside for ball two, two balls, no strikes. Hayes isn't getting a huge lead, but we also know that Gasman's got a good move over the first, so unofficially, Nathan had 14 pitches in the first inning. Yeah, so pretty efficient. Gasman checks a runner first, deals to the plate, squares around again. That's in there for strike one. Two balls, one strike. Well, he's really got a delay on his strikes, so it's got to kind of hold off to see, make sure he called it. Yeah, that's uh a lot of what we ran into one game last week, yeah. Up at North. We sure it was a throw over by Nathan to first. Hayes able to get back safely. Two balls, one strike to Tyndall. Gavin Anderson due up. Yeah, I think Coach Nelson just needs manufacture around here. I'd I'd be shocked if he didn't square him up here. Get him down to second. Yep. Squares. Another pitch in there for a strike. Two balls, two strikes. Coach Nelson's not gonna be happy about that. I mean, he that ball's right down the two. You gotta you gotta put that down. Yeah, come right back in. Look at him, Mike. He's right on the line. He jammed that inside corner, he didn't have a chance. That's where I think that's where he's going. There's a pitch. Yeah. Swing and a miss, strike three. First out of the inning, third strike out of the game for Gaswent. That'll bring Anderson to the plate. You know, Healham Pitchers did a really good job of missing Sergeant Bluff bats in that first game. They struck out 13 batters. Yeah. And continuing to build on that here in the second. Yeah, you got another guy that's just right up on the he's right up on the inside of the batter's box. Here's the pitch. Yeah. Just outside for ball one, one ball, no strikes. He's uh he's working him here. He's gonna come in the outside corner, Mike. Pitch just high for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Tough, tough one to take. That was a real tough one to take. Bell tie. Right down the pipe. Casswin takes a long look over at first base. Here's the pitch. Runner goes. Erickson not able to get the ball out of his glove. Hayes with the steal. That pitch was a ball, three balls, no strikes. Hayes had a really good jump, but I think Peyton had a shot at him if he could have got the ball out of his glove. He he got up pretty quick. Yeah, I still think that ankle injury from last week's bothered him a little bit. It'll be good to have a week-long break after this game. Yeah, there's no question about it. Nathan looks, checks runner at second, and the pitch to the plate. That ball hit to Beck out at second, bobbles it just a little bit. Throws to Aiden Lefaver at first for the second out of the inning. Good job by Aiden getting his foot back on the base there. With that, Hayes will advance to third. That'll bring up Crew Christensen. Yeah, here we go. Runner at third, two outs. Two outs. Yeah, Nathan needs to do what Nathan does best. You know, keep him inside, outside. Keep him guessing. Keep him off balance. Gaswin comes stretch or comes set. And the pitch. Nice. Swing and a miss for strike one. No balls, one strike. Yeah, nice, nice changeup on the speed of that curveball. Through him through a slower, a little bit slower curveball in the outside corner. He's way ahead of it. Hayes at third, two outs, no score, top of the second inning. Here's the pitch by Nathan. Uh weakly fouled off toward the Sergeant Bluff dug out first. Strike number two. No balls, two strikes. Yeah, so he's worked that outside corner the first two pitches, Mike. And uh trying to think like Peyton here. You might come up right on the fist on the inside corner. Either for a waist pitch or try to get him to you know do that half swing. Yeah, and that's where he's going. Here's the pitch. Fake throw down to third base. Keep the runner honest. One ball, two strikes. Yep. Good pitch right up there on the fist. Inside. You know, he just didn't bite. Maybe come back with that same pitch. Give a big shout out to Grace Tott back in the studio for keeping everything running smoothly here for Bishop Healing baseball tonight. Yeah, thank you, Grace. Swing and a miss for strike three. That's four strikeouts in the game so far for Gaswent. We will go to the bottom of the second. We'll keep it here, folks. Yep, let's uh let's talk about some of our underwriters and uh sponsors for Catholic Radio, Bishop Healan uh Baseball, uh Two City Musketeers, Security National Bank, Service Master of Siouxland, Two Body Shop, Sioux City Sprinkler, Sioux City Symphony and Orchestra, Sneaky Chicken, Soho Kitchen and Bar, St. Augustine Indian Mission, Staber Meats. Sunnybrook Dental, Tim and Lisa Swedeen, Tri-State Dental Care, Vance Thompson, Vision, Sioux City Prof LLC, Wall of Fame, Graphics Art, Incorporated, Wilmus, Do It Best Hardware, Sioux City and South Sioux City. And Ren's Plumbing and Heating, Incorporated in Sioux City, Iowa. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Heeland Baseball and Catholic Radio. We're in the bottom of the second here. Mike stepped out just a little bit. We got Chase Beck up to bat. His first at bat. Or excuse me, this is Tommy Carroll. Tommy Carroll up takes a ball on the outside corner for ball one. Nice swing on the inside corner. Got a one-on-one count. Got Mike back in his seat there. Coach Osborne kept me here so long. He didn't get a chance to get something to drink between games. Nice hit in the right up the middle. Beautiful piece of hitting by Tommy. Lineback up the middle for a single. Carroll reaches. That'll bring Nathan Gaswin to the plate. Nathan, a couple good hits that first game. You know, we got a manufacturer run here, and uh Nathan needs to do everything he can to help his cause. That's a good pitch. Pitch in there for a strike. No balls, one strike. You know, Mike, back in our day, everybody, even your best hitters, knew how to, I mean, would square to bunt. I mean, you just you just don't see that today. I'd love to see a little more small ball on our part, but just not not as popular as it was back when you and I were growing up. Nice. That ball fouled off out of play. No balls, two strikes. And Nathan Tommy Carroll down at first, no out here in the bottom of the second. We have no score. Yeah, we got to find a way to get Tommy down there, get him a run. Get a little breathing room here. Pitch. Nice. Nice inside out hitting there by Gaswin. Carroll's going for third. And he's in safely. That's a great job of running by Tommy Carroll. He didn't even hesitate right to third. Third time tonight we've seen Gaswin with that, with the fifth coming through and the barrel following it right behind, taking that ball to right field, inside out. That will bring Aiden Lefaver to the plate. Looks like Mr. Heaton. Is that Mr. Heaton coming out to run? I can't believe they're pitch running for Nathan Gaswin. How dare them do that to that young man? Actually, it's one of the wiser moves that the coach can make tonight. Yeah. Throwing a good game. He's he's been he's been good at the plate tonight. Needs a little rest over there. Get that sleeve on, keep that arm warm. Step over to third, looks back over to first. The old fake to third. Go to first. See if you can catch him. Move. Nobody's going anywhere. Well. Runners at first and third with no outs for the Crusaders here in the bottom of the second inning. That pitches inside, gets away. He's coming. Carroll's gonna score. Throw gets away from the pitcher. Heaton advances down to second. Healing now leads this one one to nothing. Runner at second with no outs. Yeah, great job by Tommy Carroll. Great jump. I mean, that ball didn't get away that far. And uh we saw it in the first game. Guys not take off from third on something you know farther away from that. And good job by Tommy getting in. Heating down at second base. Pitch. Pitch on the outside corner for strike one. One ball, one strike. Yeah, real good pitch. Aiden Lefaver with an opportunity to extend this healing lead. Good crowd out there in the left field. And the pitch. Outside. Two balls, one strike. Yeah. Catcher saying, where was that? Serious says, Well, where you brought the glove back in was a strike, but where you caught it was about a foot out. The Oscar goes to the catcher for Sergeant Bluff on that pitch. That's trouble. Nope. Nope. He's under it. Center fielder. He likes to make that jump and catch out there, and there's really no reason for him to do it. Almost looked like it was going over his head, or he makes it look like that. It reminds me of the my granddaughter's dance recital I was at Sunday afternoon. There was a lot of jumping around like that. That'll retire LaFaver for the first out. That will bring Beck to the plate. Gaswent's still down at second base. Crusaders lead this one one to nothing in the bottom of the second. Beck's been making good contact. I mean, we got situation here. You got both guys right in the middle. Both areas are wide open. In between left and, or excuse me, in between third and short, and in between second and first are wide open. And they're both staying really close to the base. Another pitch inside. Two balls, no strikes. Beck's been really patient at the plate in the first game, and no different here. Look back at the runner. Here's the pitch. That pitch is inside. Ball three, three balls, no strikes. Dylan Knapp, do up next. Like I told Coach Osborne during the interview, Dylan's grown up enough. I can't call him Dilly very much anymore. I gotta call him Dylan. No, you can't. And uh he keeps hitting the way he is. It's gonna be Mr. Knapp. That pitch outside for ball four. No one was quite sure if that was ball or strike, but including us. Yep. Yeah. Yeah, I thought that was interesting at six years of age. Dylan was down in the healing bullpen throwing the ball around. Coach had to keep running him off so they could uh warm their pitchers up. Yeah, he's uh you know, I mean, he's i typical youngest kid. I mean, you're if you're at the ballpark 24-7 with the older brothers and sisters usually. Dylan steps in here, runners at first and second. One out. That is the fifth straight ball by Sergeant Bluff Pitching. Yeah, nice, nice hole there in the gap in between uh left and center if he could get it there. This was down in college station, Texas. Those fans would be yelling ball five, ball five, ball five. College station. I've been there, so I know that that field real well. No, there's better places in the world to be, John. Take it from me. Got a break here while the Sergeant Bluff coach heads out to settle his pitcher down a little bit. Well, he can tell that he can tell this pitcher's getting a little upset. This pitcher wants that. There's been a couple close, close pitches on the outside corner, especially. He's wanted them and kind of give the umpire a little stare down. I'm sure coach is going out there and just say, hey, settle down. And that might have been just that's a message to the to the pitcher, but that's also a little message to the umpire, like, you know, you're calling a tight game. Maybe can you loosen it up a little bit for my pitcher? There's a double message going on there. Yeah, the Sergeant Bluff coach did uh had a couple polite words for the umpire about where was that pitch and Dylan Squares, that pitch in there for a strike, one ball, one strike. Yeah, this guy third base is playing deep. Playing deep and it was the pitch, Dylan Squares. He had him not able to make contact on it. One ball, two strikes. I like it. I like it. I mean, guys playing deep. He gets that thing down. Heating at second, back at first, one out. Crusaders lead one to nothing. We're in the bottom of the second. Here's the pitch to Dylan. Ooh, that hit him. Just got away. That will load the bases, and that will bring up the dangerous JJ Hope. Yeah, JJ's made hard contact every at bat. He's been very unfortunate on two or three of those. Just hits him right to the right to the players. But let's see if he can't put something in between one of the one of the infielders here. Right. That ball hits sharply back to the pitcher. He's able to field it, throws home. Again, just sharp hit right to the pitcher. So Heaton retired. Pitcher to catcher for the second out. JJ Reaches on the fielder's choice. And that will bring up Peyton Erickson. Runner still at first and second. Two outs. That pitch outside for ball one. Yeah, Peyton uncharacteristically uncharacteristically looked at three last time. That pitch in there for strike one, one ball, one strike. He did not like that one. Peyton did not like that pitch. Shook his head after the umpire called that. From the wind up in the pitch. He hits that ball hard out to shortstop. Over to first for the third out. Erickson retired 6'3. Healing pushes one run across. They lead this one one to nothing. We'll head to the top of the third and be back in one minute. Millschahammer Pitson Associates is a proud supporter of Bishop Heelin Athletics and Siouxland Catholic Radio. And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station. Welcome back to Bishop Healin Baseball on KFHC. We appreciate everybody listening. Here in the top of the third, Sergeant Bluff will send Micah Frankel, and then we're back to the top of the order. It'll be Gavin Warren and Brody Wegger. Healing leads this one one to nothing. What a beautiful, beautiful day, beautiful night for baseball. I mean, if you're just sitting around, just wanting to do something, come out here and it's just gorgeous out. Got quite a few people sitting up there on the left field under the tree and out there in the bleachers and along the side, uh third base side there. And quite a few people behind home play. Just a good crowd. And uh come out and watch two uh good baseball teams, you know, go at it here. One-nothing in the bottom of the set or top of the third. Yeah, I like that. Uh Ryden was warming Nathan up and ball got past him. He looked over and saw that Peyton was coming out. He said, I'll let you get that. I'm just gonna head back to the dugout. So uh smart move by the underclassman there to let the senior gentleman and Peyton just looked at it and asked the umpire for a ball, so Raiden's idea didn't work out for him very well. Al Blading per se. Number three, Michael Frankel. Yeah. Cass went with four strikeouts already through two innings. That first pitch outside for a ball. One ball, no strikes. Peyton says you just called that pitch on me in there and you didn't give it to me. So I'll guarantee you there there was a couple words there. That pitch is high, gets away from Peyton just a little bit. Two balls, no strikes. Yeah, there's nothing worse if you're a catcher and you got one called on you and you get in there and the k and the ump doesn't give it to you. There's generally a few words. That pitch outside for ball three, three balls, no strikes. And the confidence to throw that pitch with the 2-0. Here's the pitch by Nathan. Just low for ball four, four-pitch walk. Frankel is on first base. I mean, all around the zone, all four of those pitches are around the zone. So that'll bring Gavin Warren to the plate. We are in the top of the third. Crusaders lead this one one to nothing. Gavin. I wouldn't be surprised to see Gavin Square here. Nathan checks a runner at first. It's on that inside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike. Yeah, I I like that pitch. I I like going inside on him because he he he's sitting in the middle of the box, but as soon as uh Nathan goes to go in his windup, he'll step on his stride toward right toward home plate. Here's the pitch. Just low for ball one. One ball, one strike. I come back on the inside. That right foot of Warren's comes right up on the line, and there's no way he can catch up to that inside fastball of gas ones. He throws it too hard. Come back at it. See what Nate. Here's a pitch. Outside, ball two, two balls, one strike. Give a shout out to Mark and Lori Dickas. Who are tuning in and listening to a little Healing baseball. They've got a son on the Healing boys soccer team. There it is. Boy, how do you not call that? That was great pitch on the inside corner. And Peyton's taking his time throwing it back. He knows it. There's a little. I think there's he's I don't know if the ump said something to him, but Peyton's getting his message across. Three balls, one strike. Oh another walk that will put runners at first and second with no outs. Gas one's frustrated, Mike. He Peyton's going out talking to him, but the Gaswin's frustrated. He's not getting the corner. Yeah, and he as competitive as he is, he needs to this is a good visit here. Settle down. Yeah, uh, you talked about the uh young Dickens uh kid playing on the side. Well, he had a heck of a game last night. Yeah, played on that left outside. I mean, he really did. He played really good. So yeah, the Dickasses ought to be extremely proud. Yeah, I had the good fortune of coaching his younger sister, Caitlin, for a few years in basketball, and uh she always had a big smile on her face. And of course, when Caitlin Clark was big, she wore a 22 jersey, and I just kept calling her Clark the whole time. Here we go. Let's see how Nathan can battle back here. Yeah. A little high. Pitch was high for ball one. Yeah, Coach Nelson's gonna play a little small ball here. He's got guys on first and second. He wants to get him in scoring position. He realizes now it's the fifth straight ball by Gaswin. Wouldn't be surprised to see him take a pitch here. But at the same time, you don't want to waste a good pitch and get it down. Wagger squares, puts it in play, fielded by Erickson, throws to Beckett first for the out. Great play by Peyton. Runners will advance to second and third. Yeah. Great bunt by Wagger from Sergeant Bluff. He put that ball literally right in between third, pitch, and catch. One of those ones that all three guys could have could have had, and Peyton made a great play on it. Number 17, Gavin Merrill. Gavin Merrill steps in. The pitcher has a chance to help his cause here with the base hit. Let's bear down here, Nathan. Healan leads this one one to nothing. We are in the top of the third. Long look by Nathan. Here's the pitch. Good pitch. Swing and a miss for strike one. No balls, one strike. Boy. First pitch slider on the outside corner. That's a tough pitch to hit. Great, great pitch. Great pitch selection by Peyton. Nathan really slows the process down when he has runners on. Here's the pitch. Oh, just that pitch way inside. A big sigh of relief by Merrill there that he didn't get hit by that pitch. How did that not hit him? That thing. And I mean a huge sigh of relief, folks. Oh I don't know how that didn't hit him. But uh that curveball was like about six feet, and great job by Erickson to catch it. Yeah, you did a good job, Coach Wesselman headed out to have a conversation with Nathan. Well, we'll get back to while we got a break, a little College World Series talk. Starting on Saturday in Lawrence, Kansas, the Oklahoma Sooners will take on the Kansas Jayhawks in an old Big Eight matchup there. See a little heated rivalry there. Just a little bit. And also on Saturday, Alabama down the Tuscaloosa regional, they will host St. John's of New York, Big East School. St. John's did a great job. I mean, they came from nowhere too, Mike. And uh had a great big East season, especially in the tournament. And uh that's good. Good job, good for the Big East. Yeah, St. John's was a four-seed in that regional and knocked off Coastal Carolina and Florida State. Yeah. Also on that side on Saturday, you've got Mississippi State against Georgia in Athens. Another SEC matchup. And that's the one I'd like to see. That'd be it. That's gonna be a fun one. And the last one is the Texas Longhorns hosting Oregon down in Austin. All the winners of those super regionals will advance to Omaha a week later, play in the greatest show on dirt. Here's first pitch by Gaswent. He pops that down the first baseline. Beck ranges over and drops it. And it's a foul ball. Fortunately, it was a foul ball. Well, if it wasn't, at least one run was gonna score. Not a bad drop, okay, because he doesn't have a shot at him at home plate. Um just by the angle he was and kind of reaching out and where he was on the field. So you know, not a not a bad drop. I'm sure he'll tell you it was intentional because he knew all that. So that's that's yeah. One ball, two strikes to Merrill. Runners at second and third with one out. Yeah, I like a there's a there's a wicked wicked slider here. Let's see. Here's the pitch from Nathan. Come home that ball grounded to Shaner at third. Throws to Erickson. Nice. Throw home. He is out for out number two. Great job by the third baseman, Shaner, to get that ball in. And great job by Erickson to come across. And uh and and to be honest, the good old-fashioned blocking of the home plate. We got something going on here. Second. This is his second, but he's taking him out. Yeah, he's back for the second visit in the inning. I don't know what's going on here. Yeah. There's something he doesn't like that that's going on with Nathan. I don't know if maybe Nathan doesn't feel a hundred percent or that's his second visit, right? I mean Yeah, it's a second second visit to sitting. He went out and visited after he threw that pitch behind uh Merrill. Well, if I'm not mistaken, well, maybe he does. I thought you had to take, you know, am I wrong? Did they change that rule? Yeah, they must have changed it because I I know it's that way in college. Second visit, well, yeah, that you in college a pitching coach goes out. Whenever the the head coach comes out, that counts as second visit, and you've got to take them out. So the only thing I can think of is if that first visit was maybe an injury that they're checking an injury or something. Knife steps in, got runners at first and second with two outs. Crusaders lead this one one to nothing in the top of the third. Cass went long look in, he deals to the plate. That pitch just low for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Should Knife will get on, Carter Hayes will follow. Yeah, I was gonna go back uh after this pitch. I'll go back to that play at the home plate, Mike, is uh and and I'll talk a little bit about that. I was just gonna say, you gotta give him that pitch. That's the pitch that he wants. That's the pitch that really frustrated him. He got out there, and it was really bothering him that he wasn't getting that pitch, and he just got that pitch. Yeah, that pitch right on the outside corner for strike one. One ball, one strike. That's a big out here. Nathan Deals. Nice. That ball fouled out a foul down third baseline into the healing dugout for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Yeah, I noticed uh after that pitch, Nathan Nathan shaking his right arm out a little bit and then kind of walking around the mound. So I don't know if there's uh if there's something that just doesn't feel right or tender. And here's the pitch. Runners go. Gets away from Erickson. Everybody will advance one base. That will bring it two balls, two strikes. Yeah, it makes this this pitch all all that more important. Yeah, really need Peyton to make sure he keeps this in front of him. Yep. Healing leads one to nothing. We're in the top of the third. Sergeant Bluff is threatening with runners at second and third and two outs. They've got Knifel at the plate. Yeah, that's a big pitch here. Nathan looks in and deals. Up in the air. That pitch is popped out to Mr. Knapp in center field. Makes the catch for the third out. Good job by Gas from getting out of that inning. Sergeant Bluff puts a couple guys in scoring position, was unable to score. We'll head to the bottom of the third. Crusaders won. Sergeant Bluff 0. We'll be back in one minute. You're listening to FM 88.1, KFHC, Ponca Sioux City, and KOIA, Storm Lake, Siouxland Catholic Radio. Millshahelmer Pitts and Associates is a proud supporter of Bishop Healing Athletics and Siouxland Catholic Radio. And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic Radio Station. Welcome back to Bishop Mueller Field. I'm Mike Skaggs, joined by John Tritz. Head to the bottom of the third here. The Crusaders lead one to nothing. They will send Caleb Lefaver, Brody Shaner, and Tommy Carroll to the plate. Yeah, that's the meat of the lineup here, Mike. So that first pitch in there for a strike. No balls, one strike. My microphone. Here's the pitch. That's a good piece of hit and stay in. Oh just foul down the third baseline. No balls, two strikes to Caleb. Let me tell you that that spot's open, and Caleb knows it. Left fielder's gonna Caleb. Now he's now he's over. Sergeant Bluff had some coach had some words of encouragement for Caleb. They smiled at each other. So Caleb said, I'll just put it on the ground between short and third. Lafaver singles. He's at first base with no outs. That'll bring bring Brody Shaner to the plate. Yeah, good piece of hitting. I mean, we talked about that last. So his last bat, they had that shift on, and and we were saying Caleb can take it to left field with the best of them, and there you go. Inside out, fist come through, barrel follow. Beautiful piece of hitting. Gotta ask you, you know, back when we played, you didn't have all this body armor and everything else to protect yourself. Would uh if you played today, would you wear it? I don't think so. I just, hey, I needed to shed things so I could be a little faster. I don't need things slowing me down, Mike. That first pitch to Shanner is a ball, one ball, no strikes. Yeah, I just mean I get really frustrated. That ball hit out into the gap between center and right. Oh my gosh. Oh my goodness. That right fielder made a heck of a play on it. LaFaver able to get back safely. He went a long way to get that, folks. We thought that was down and they were gonna keep running. Oh my gosh, what a great play by the right fielder. I thought that thing was way past him. And that's a direction that we haven't seen Shaner hit yet. First time I've seen him take it to right field. Maybe he was listening to us, and his dad said, Hey, prove those guys wrong. Yeah, you know, a lot of these guys when they they walk, they virtually get undressed at home plate, leave everything laying there. Lafaver takes off to second, he's in safely. My wife gets the biggest kick out. She wants to know what the big mitt is that these kids put on now. You know, they because they all gotta look like the big leaguers, you know. They put this thing, it looks like a a winter, a winter glove, and you know, to protect your hands. Yeah, can't can't scratch the hands up while they're sliding. Yeah, I I think they're headed to the oven to pull some fresh made cookies or something out. It's it's crazy. Some of them are really big. Oh, geez. Here's the pitch, Tommy Carroll. That ball low for ball two, two balls, no strikes. Yeah, Tommy has just been solid. He's a tough out. Tommy's a tough out. He he he's he can't go in on him because he he's got such quick rest. Uh pitch on the outside corner for a strike. Two balls, one strike. Again, our next broadcast will be next Tuesday from Bishop Mueller Field, where the Crusaders take on the East High Black Raiders. The Crusaders have a one-game lead in the Missouri River Activities Conference over East. I can't wait for that one. Here's the pitch. That ball gets away from the catcher. There you go. LaFavor sprints to third base. Well, you know the old saying, Mike, ducks on the pond. And literally all Tommy's got to do is do his job, put the ball in play. Anything in play on the infield, the infield's playing deep. Anything on the infield, anything up in the air is going to score LeFavor. Yep, we haven't had a turkey sighting here at Bishop Muellerfield like we had at West last week. Look at that. Carroll hits that ball very well out to right field. Right fielder bounces away from him. Tommy looks wisely decides to stay at first. Carroll with the RBI single. That makes the score two to nothing. Bishop Healand. Nathan Gaswin steps in. We've seen some really, really good inside out hitting today. Going to right field from the left-handers and going to right uh or excuse me, going to right field with the left handers, going to left field with the right hand. Really good hitting. And you can tell they've been in the cage. Yeah, Nathan's been really hitting the ball well tonight. That batting average has got to be north of 200 by now, the way he's hitting. Yeah. Here's the first pitch to Nathan. It's on that outside corner for strike one. No balls one strike. That was a good pitch. Good pitch. Nathan's probably looking down at Coach, going, I wish he'd let me swing at that. Yeah. I would not be surprised to see Carroll go on this pitch. And he knows it. He dives back in. Ball gets away from the first baseman, not far enough for Tommy to advance. Me and the pitcher, I think I think we're in sync here. I think he was thinking the same thing. Almost had Tommy leaning the wrong way, but he was just able to get back. Sun is shining right in the first baseman's eyes. Tough to see as it comes from the pitcher. Here's the pitch. Carroll goes. That's going to be trouble. Oh, he got back just in time. Oh, no, no. We dropped it. Shortstop. Started towards second, was able to get back over and field that ball. Made a great play and actually made a good throw, just a little low that the first baseman couldn't handle. Yeah, so this game, instead of pinch running for Peyton Erickson, Hendrix Heaton is pinch running for Nathan Gaswent. Aiden LaFaver. Aiden LeFavre steps in. He flew out to center field his first time up. Crusaders have pushed one across here in the bottom of the third. They lead two to nothing. They've got runners at first and second with one out. You don't know how important that run was. Nice. Aiden hits that hard between short and third. Oh, shh. Everyone will be held. Might have been able to score, but better safe than sorry. Well, as hard as that ball was hit to the left fielder, that's one of those ones where you don't come around, you don't score, but then he bobbled it. So I mean if he was running, he's gonna score, but yeah. You can't anticipate that. That'll bring Beck to the plate with the bases loaded and one out. Healing has pushed one across, looking to score more. Now he's made good contact. Everything with that here. Here's the pitch to Chase. That's outside, gets away from the catcher. It's another huge run. Carroll will score from third. All other runners will advance. Healing now has runners at second-third. They pushed two across this inning. They lead three to nothing. Yeah, pitcher's a little frustrated, I think, with the catcher there. I think he uh probably thought he should have had that. Now the infield's got to come in. And boy, I mean, what an opportunity here for Beck. Pitcher steps off, looks towards the dugout. Outfielders are all taking three, four, five steps in. They're all trying to prevent that play at home. Here's the pitch. Outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes to Beck. Sorry, two balls, no strikes, Tebec. Pitcher stepped off long enough. It threw me off there for a second. Boy, just a huge lead over there. That's on that outside corner for strike one. One ball, one strike. Two balls, one strike. Now I'm caught up. I mean. We are. Boy, he is he is halfway to third. Yeah, there's nobody holding him on. I know. I would I almost think he could go. That brings the count to three balls, one strike on Beck. Dylan Knapp, do up next. Yeah, Beck is He's looking for something right down the pipe. Here's the pitch. Oh. That was in there for strike two. Inside corner. Full count. I really wonder why they haven't just had Aiden go. I mean, he is over halfway to third base, folks. Wow, you got we got uh Heaton on third over here. So okay. I'm blocked out. I can't see anything down that line. That pitch was up for ball four. That will load the bases. That was kind of I think that was a makeup pitch because that ball looked more like a strike than the one before it. And I think I think the ump knew he he missed the one before it. That's why we have you in the in the booth, John. I wasn't able to see third base, and I'm wondering why isn't Aiden running? He's gonna have a talk with that kid after the game. No, I don't have to, and he doesn't have to listen to me. Oh. Infield's still in. I'm surprised. I'm surprised at this, Mike. I mean, I know they want to get that runner at home, but you've got an opportunity for a double play up the middle, but they're gonna give they're gonna give that up. Yeah, first pitch in there to Dylan for a strike. That pitch way inside for a ball, one ball, one strike. Yeah, Dylan's got opportunity to break this game wide open. Base is full of Crusaders. They've pushed two across already. There's one out. We're in the bottom of the third. Healing leads three to nothing. Here's the pitch. That pitch high and outside for ball two. Two balls, one strike. There's no place to put him. No. He's got to come to him and make Dylan put the bat on the ball. Yeah, Dylan knows he's Dylan knows he's got he's got to come. Here's the pitch. That pitch way outside. Three balls, one strike. Yeah. JJ Hope, do up next. Yeah, you you you you really want to get an out here. There's the pitch. Oh, where we got Dylan. Yeah, he's hammered the well hit. Well hit. That's over center fielder's head, folks. One run's gonna score. Hey, better better slow down. You can't pass him. You can't pass him, folks. Oh my god. Let him score. Fortunately, Chase Beck was chasing eight in the favor, and he almost caught him. In order to not catch him, he slid into home. And that's a basis clearing triple by Dylan Knapp. Oh my gosh. I'd love to have it on video. That was a good one. They could not have been two feet apart when they scored. That's how Beck took off and Aiden held up thinking he was going to catch it. Well, Beck knew he was fast enough to get back in case it was caught. Aiden said, I can't go very far because I'm not sure I can do it. Oh, that was a classic. I haven't seen that in a long time. JJ Hope steps in. Dylan, I'm going to call him Mr. Knapp on that one. Mr. Knapp with the triple, run bases clearing triple. Healing now leads this one six to nothing. He tagged that. Got it up in the jet stream. I mean the wind's going out. Here's the pitch to JJ. Nice. Oh. Pops that out into center field. Centerfielder makes a great effort, diving attempt. Not able to make the catch. Mr. Knapp scores from third to make it seven to nothing. And we have JJ Hope on first base with one out. And I would expect at some point in this at bat, he's going to take off. Erickson steps in. He'll be the ninth batter in the inning, and we're going to have a pitching change. With that, we're going to take a one-minute break and we'll be back. And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic Radio Station. Coming into the game is Zach Van Otterloo. He is a junior. He's started two games. He has a 0-1 record. Teams are hitting 368 against him. He's given up 14 hits, 14 runs, 13 of those earned, five walks, one hit by pitch, and two strikeouts. His ERA is 17.06. Well, he uh I'm sure he doesn't would like to bring that ERA down a little bit. That's uh that's up there. Um Merrill's a little frustrated when he went. I don't blame him. He had a couple miscues by uh you know the catcher. Uh lets that one go by. Um you have he's had a couple deals here with the first baseman drops the pit, the or the ball to first, drop ball out in the outfield. You know, he he showed a little frustration and and you know he really it didn't seem to me like he was a pitcher that gave up seven runs. You know what I mean? Yeah, no, it it uh he actually pitched pretty well. It just it's fallen apart for him in this inning, and you know, we were we were up at MOC last week and and we lived through it on the opposite side. So absolutely Peyton Erickson steps in here. Again, Healman has pushed six runs across in this inning. They lead seven to nothing. JJ Hope at first base. Big hit of the inning was a basis clearing triple by Mr. Dylan Knapp. Peyton hits that out into right field. He can't, oh, he did find it eventually. He was looking right up into the sun and was really struggling to find that ball. Yeah, good play by the right fielder. That'll bring Caleb LeFavor to the plate. He'll be the tenth batter of the inning for the Crusaders. He singled his last time up and scored a run. Halo LeFaver. He's got two singles this game and a stolen base. He's kind of done it all. Yeah, he's here's the pitch. JJ takes off. That ball hit to the third baseman. He scoops it up, throws over to first base for the third out. That will end it for the Crusaders. They pushed six runs across. We'll head to the top of the fourth. Crusaders lead seven to nothing. We'll be back in 30. We are back at Bishop Mueller Field. Crusaders lead this one 7-0. We head to the top of the fourth. And Sergeant Bluff will send Hayes, Tyndall, and Anderson to the plate. I'd like to give a shout out to some of our underwriters and sponsors of Bishop Healing Baseball and Catholic Radio. Bargain Center, Barclay Asphalt, BCU Catholic Connection Scholarship, Bob Rose Point After and North End Zone, Bush Dry Cleaners, Catholic Charities, Central Bank, Sioux City Storm Lake, Christy Smith, Funeral Homes, CNOS Dr. Ryan Meet, Councilload Supply Company, LLC, Culligan, Cybercloak Technology, LLC, and Dave Pepin Real Estate LLC. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Heeland Baseball and Catholic Radio. And as we head here to the fourth, we've got a pitching change for the Crusaders. Alex Rodriguez is on the mound. He's pitched in two games, started one. He has a 1-0 record. Teams are hitting 2.06 against him. He's given up seven hits, eight runs, three of those earned, two walks, seven strikeouts, and he has an ERA of 2.52. Well, I think our our question was answered. I still don't know what's going on, but obviously Coach Welsman saw something was going on with Gaswin, and I don't maybe we'll have to get the answer from his dad or somebody here, but but uh new pitcher in Rodriguez here in the top of the fourth. And I'm for sure, I mean, and unless they just felt we have a comfort that this comfortable lead, they can rest his arm or something. But I think something might have been going on with Gaswin. Carter Hayes. Carter Hayes steps in here to lead off the fourth inning for Sergeant Bluff. They come into this game with a record of four and six. They're four and five in the Missouri River Activities Conference. First pitch outside for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Arod delivers. Makes a good throw over to Aiden Lefaver at first for the first out. Way to stay patient and not rush it too much and get that first out. That'll bring Tendall to the plate. Knocked it down, went down, picked it up with his hand, and threw a BB over the first. How batting for Sergeant Love. Tyler Tendall. He steps in on from the left side. Loves crowding that plate. Yeah, he really does. He gets right up on it and smartly uh Peyton goes right on the inside corner. Swing and a miss for strike one. And the pitch. That ball hit to the first base coach. He scoops it up. No balls, two strikes. Yeah, Peyton. Peyton definitely jamming him. Wouldn't be surprised to see him waste the pitch on the outside corner, see if he can get him to chase it. Yep, that's where he's going. And here's the pitch. Perfect. Beautiful job. That ball's popped up. He's got room. Oh, he dropped it. Shaner not able to make the play down there. That keeps him count it. No balls, two strikes. That's the one spot. You and I, neither one of us can see. Mike, we got behind that third base dugout. And uh all I did is I just saw the ball hit the ground. You know, if we do a game from the bleachers out there, we won't know what's going on at home plate, but we'll be able to see the entire field. You know, we can do it. Here's the pitch by A-Rod. Just on the outside corner for ball one. One ball, two strikes. Good spot. He's got him one and two. Come back on the inside here. Oh, he's he's he's come away. He saw two outside pitches. Now he's jamming it even more. Yeah, Peyton's coming right at his knees. Here's the pitch. Oh, it was way inside. That ball ball. He is Andy Foster would say he buzzed the tower on that one. He buzzed the tower. That was on the other side of him. That was two balls, brings counts, two balls, two strikes, one out. We're in the top of the fourth. Crusaders lead seven to nothing. Coming back on the outside corner, Mike. Here's the pitch. And that hit him. Peyton. Tendall will trot down to first base with the hit by pitch. Peyton's going out and talking to him because he he was lined up on the outside corner. And uh and Alex came on the inside on him, so just giving a little reminder, just find me, play a little catch, just throw strikes. That'll bring Gavin Anderson to the plate. Peyton's older brother was in the crowd a little bit ago. Looks like he's either relocated his seat or gone home. Anderson steps in. He grounded out short to first his first time up. Pitch by A-rod. Inside for ball one. One ball, no strike. You know, didn't miss by much. I mean, he did he hit that black on the inside corner. Might have been just a little bit out. Here's the pitch. Fouled off for strike one. One ball, one strike. Tendall will head back to first base. I can see a little more chatter here. She's kind of dead right now. Seven and zero lead. That pitch fouled off. One ball, two strikes. Arod doing a better job of checking the runner at first. Yeah. Well, he's got a critical ways, too. Got their traditional stirrup socks on. He steps off the mound. Like I said, I mean you're you're stealing off the pitcher. You're not stealing off the catcher. So you're you know, you're you're trying to time that move. There's the pitch. Ball hit out to Hope at second. Over to Beck at first. To a favorite first for the double play. 6-4-3. Pitcher's best friend. That will retire the side. I'll tell you what, now there's there's growth right there, Mike. We've seen that. We've seen him have struggle making that play. And look like a veteran there on that one hop over the first base. Absolutely. We'll head to the bottom of the fourth. Crusaders lead 7-0. Your Crusaders too lead 7-0. Culligan of Sioux City has been serving the area since 1939, and it's currently owned by third-generation Culligan expert Mark Coffey. Culligan of Sioux City is a proud supporter of Catholic Radio and Bishop Healing Athletics. And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station. Okay. We are heading to the bottom of the fourth. And we just got information that Nathan was taken out. He had a little strain in his neck, so uh to avoid further injury or possible injury, they decided to go with young Alex Rodriguez and did a good job that inning. For the Crusaders in this inning, it will be Shaner, Carroll, and Gaswent. Well, not Gaswent. I'm guessing Moravic or A-rod will bat in his place. Well, thanks for that. We got that information on uh on Gaswent a little bit on maybe sh got a little strain. Uh so it kind of answers our question, Mike, on on the two visits to home. One of them had to have been for injury. Yep. And then obviously smart move taking him out here. I mean, you got a seven-run leaders, and you don't want to make it worse. And so, I mean, looks to me like the like the young man's okay. I mean, just you know, for precaution reasons, get him out of there and get, you know. Absolutely. Shayner steps in here to lead off the fourth inning. Crusaders lead seven to nothing. First pitch to Brody is high for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Yeah, you don't don't want to put in position where he could have a delayed absence off the mound there. Here's a pitch. Another pitch high. Two balls, no strikes. Nathan pitched well. One two. Had a few strikeouts. Yeah, last time Shaner here just stroked the ball at the right center. Look, or just missed that one. Shayner pops that up out of play. Two balls, one strike. Yeah, just missed it. I mean, that's actually the ball that he hit the last at bat might have been one of the best ones I've seen him hit all year, and that right fielder just made an unbelievable play. And they're testing them again. They still don't think he can put it where he put it last time. Center fielders all the way over into left center. And the pitch. That pitch high for ball three. Three balls, one strike. Tommy Carroll do up next, followed by Alex Rodriguez. Wind up in the pitch. And bounces off the wall. Shayner in with the stand-up double. Even with the shift, I don't think you're gonna get that one. He he stroked that thing and one bouncer to the fence. Left center about the 385, well, 365 mark out there. Number eight. Tommy Carroll. Tommy Carroll steps in. Crusaders lead 7-0. We're in the top of the fourth. Schainer with the leadoff double down at second base. Got a great opportunity here to do some things. Got a guy on second. The guy at the plate has been making just great contact. He fouls that straight back for strike one. No balls, one strike. Now, one thing we've seen out of Schaefer this year, we we know he's got some serious power. Got a pretty sizable lead out there at second base. Pitch outside to Carroll for ball one. One ball one strike. I mean, there's just a huge gap between second and first and third and short. Both these guys are staying close, obviously worrying about Shaner. Yeah, Shaner's got a huge lead. Here's the pitch. Way outside. That one got away from it. Catcher was able to keep it from going to the backstop and keep Shaner at second base. Two balls, one strike. To Carroll. A-Rod on deck. Great opportunity here for Tommy. Advance the runner. Here's the pitch. That pitch is high. Three balls, one strike. Good eye by Tommy. A-rod due up next. Aiden Lefaver follows him. That's one of those pitches that, I mean, that's that tempting pitch right there about elbow high. Here's the pitch in by Van Otterloo. High for ball four. Five pitch walk. That puts runners at first and second with no outs. That'll bring A-rod to the plate. And like you said earlier, he's shown that he can he can put a charge in the ball. And he's aggressive, and he'll he'll he'll go after that first pitch. And he's a pole hitter, and they're not playing him to pull. The left fielder's way out of position. He goes down the line, he's gonna run forever. Here's the first pitch to A Rod. Swing and a miss for strike one. No balls, one strike. Boy, he was uh he was swinging for the bleachers out there. Yep, he definitely was on that one. Van Otterler takes a long look in. Looks back at second, delivers to the plate. That's what I was talking about. That ball is hit. Schayner on his way home. They are not gonna get a throw. Rodriguez with the RBI single. Schaener scores from second. That's exactly where I said. If he hits that ball down the left field line, it's gonna score. And that left fielder was playing way over. Number 18. That makes the score 8 to nothing Crusaders here in the bottom of the fourth. Two runners on, one run in, no outs. Aiden Lefaver steps in. Starting to find his way in the batter's box and doing a good job making contact. That pitch was a strike. One ball, no balls, one strike. Sometimes I always I think it's his brother ups hit from the other side. If you want to know what they're gonna look like when they get older, look at dad. Here's the pitch. Fooled him on that ball gets away from the catcher. Yeah. Carroll thrown out at third for the first out of the inning. That had to take a perfect throw. What do they call here? No. No. He called a foul ball. Okay. Carroll did not get thrown out at third base. I did not see that. We've got runners at first and second still. Wow. Okay. Count as no balls, two strikes on Aiden Lefaver. Great throw by the catcher to get him on that. I mean, now that's perfect throw. Because Tommy was in there all the way. That throw had to be exactly where it was. But we'll do it all over. Here's the pitch by Van Otterle. Way outside, ball one. One ball, two strikes. He's really worried about Tommy Carroll out there at second base. Arod at first. That's an RBI single this inning. Carroll at second. No outs. Here's the pitch. Pitch way high. And if you've got it way high on a favor, you've got it way high. That was a curved ball that did not curve. Matter of fact, I think it I think it had a little rise to it, Mike. Might have seen that in Oklahoma City from one of those softball pitchers. Texas Tech and University of Texas meeting for right to win a national championship starting tomorrow night. Here's the pitch. That pitch is high. Three balls, two strikes. I mean, let's move the runners, get them all in scoring position, and let's get a couple more, a couple more runs across. Chase Beck do up next. Yeah, make this a short game. Long look back by Van Irloo. Here's a pitch. He got him looking for strike three. First out of the inning. That will bring Chase Beck to the plate. He'll be followed by Dylan Knapp, who tripled his last time up. Aladdin for your bishop healing Crusaders. Number 14. Chase. That mean I I've seen I've seen it where I mean you don't want to you don't want to step off the gas here. I mean, you want to keep going. If you got a chance to put these guys away, let's put them away. That pitch bounces in there. Runners will advance. Now that's a perfect chance. Now you got guys in scoring positions, second and third. You got a guy that's making good contact up. Opportunity for a couple RBIs and and give your uh give all you guys just a little break and and hopefully hold them scoreless in the top of the fifth. Listen. Gotta get the two runs across first. Van Otterloo taking his time, long look in. Delivery to the plate. That pitch is high for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Here's the pitch to Chase. Bounces in there. Tommy Carroll will score from third. That will make the score nine to nothing. Count to Chase Beck is three balls, no strikes. Arod advances to third. Healon leads this one nine to nothing in the bottom of the fourth inning. Here's the pitch by Van Otterloo. Yeah, good pitch. That's a strike. Beck taking all the way. Sergeant Bluff, no runs, two hits, no errors. Bishop Healen, nine runs, ten hits, no errors. Van Otterloo with the pitch. That's gonna score him. Beck hits that out between center and left. Nice coming. Here comes Arod. Throw away offline. There we go. That will make the score ten to nothing. Good job of hitting there by Beck. That will bring Mr. Dylan Knapp to the plate. Tripled his last time up, cleared the bases with that triple. Now that makes it 10 to nothing, Mike. So I mean. You tired of hanging out with me, John? You want this to end early? I'm never tired of hanging out with you, Mike, and I'm never tired of baseball, but I'm thinking of our guys' arms and give our guys a little rest. Absolutely. Swing and a miss, first pitch to Dylan. No balls, one strike. Yeah. He's been on it. Let's keep that keep that head down. Keep that head in, Dylan. Take that thing to right field. Wind in the delivery by Van Otterloo. Way outside. One ball, one strike. That ball definitely got away from him. Healing leads 10-0. We're in the bottom of the fourth inning. They push three runs across in this inning. Look how shallow they're playing him after he just put the ball at the warning track his last at bat. No respect. No respect at all. Here's a pitch. Oh, he just missed that one. He did. He fouls that one back. Brings the count to one ball, two strikes. Yeah, he just missed that one. Dylan looked at the umpire. Maybe the umpire said the same thing. Wind up in the pitch by Van Otterloo. Dylan hits that right back up the middle over second base. Knapp on first with the single. Boy, he's in a groove, isn't he, Mike? Yep. Keeps the inning alive. That will bring JJ Hope to the plate. Yeah, he he's definitely seeing the ball way better than he was early in the season. Number five. JJ Hope. I can't wait till the new stats come out tomorrow or sometime and see how these batting averages jumped up by that bottom of the order. And I don't want to say you and I know a lot, but we talked about that a lot last week on the way to MOC and on the way home that bottom of the batting order comes alive. It's going to be a tough team to reckon with as we head down the rest of the season at the tournament trail. There's no question about that, Mike. I mean, it it just it just does so much more, gives you so many opportunities when when your guys at the bottom of the order are making contact and getting on base. Here's the pitch on that outside corner for strike one. One ball, one strike. I mean, I can't count how many times in the last six games JJ's come up with Dylan. Well, normally he gets on first, and he's second or third by the time JJ's done batting. Van Otterloo looks over. That pitch high for ball two. Two balls, one strike. And I like this. Normally, I think you're sending Dillon to second base, but with a 10-0 lead, why risk an injury? I mean. And you have to face Sergeant Bluff again. You don't want to give them any ammunition or bulletin board material for the second time around. I agree. Here's the pitch. Oh, he just missed that just underneath it. JJ pops that up into the outfield. Center fielder making a long run. He's not able to make the catch. Dylan Knapp, of course, with two outs, never stopped at second base. He is on the third. That's Scott, you know, and that's just so frustrating for your pitcher. I mean, that's he did his job, got a high fly ball. How about it? And I don't know if the center fielder didn't get a jump on that. But I mean that looked like it should have been a routine fly ball. Yeah. Ethan Erickson steps in. We've got runners of first and third, two outs. Crusaders have pushed three runs across here in the bottom of the fourth, and they lead this one ten to nothing. Long look in. First pitch outside. Ball one. One ball, no strikes. Don't expect that JJ will be going here just much like Dylan. No. And that's just that's that's just good, smart uh baseball coaching. On the outside corner for strike one. I'd like to see Peyton get a hold of one here. He's he must have had a gnat or something flying around him because he kind of shook his head on that one. Like either there was a bug or he didn't agree with that one. I'm saying he didn't agree with that one. And Otterloo looks over at first, delivers. Well, he got a hold of it. Yeah, right to the center fielder. Hit it right to the center fielder. So Erickson flies out to retire the side. Crusaders push three across. That brings a score 10 to nothing. We are heading to the top of the fifth. We'll be back in 30 seconds. And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station. We're heading to the top of the fifth inning. Sergeant Bluff trails this one 10 to nothing. They will bring up Crew Christensen, Micah Frankel, and the top of the order Gavin Warren scores 10 to nothing. They will need at least one to keep this game alive. I'm wondering if we're making a change here, but I'm not sure if Raiden's coming in for Peyton or not. But I'm looking over there to see if Peyton's putting his gear back on. Arod back on the mound to start the fifth inning here. No, here comes Peyton's coming back out. Okay. Peyton said, I miss my two games for the year. I'm not missing anymore. Give a shout out to Security National Bank minor league team. They knocked off Mike Sioux City carpets tonight, six to five. Loaded that game changer app. It's been a game changer. You can keep up with everything. Because if we don't spend enough time on our phones already, now we can sit at home and see what the grandkids are up to. Texan see if mom's keeping score. Texan, find out how it went. Where everybody bounced and everybody scores. Christensen steps in. Oh man. Have you given her any hitting tips? She's way further along than I was. He throws it. He went way to his right, folks. Stretched across his body, fielded it, and made a long throw over to Aiden LeFaver at first for the first out. You know, that I mean that that arm right there, that's big telling him arm. And we've seen that in the last two throws by Shaner. He's had to come up firing and he threw a bullet across field. Great play. Let's get another old-time name in there. That was Brooks Robinson style right there. I was going to say Pete Rose, but Pete Rose probably would have fell flat on his face over there on the dive. That pitch in there on the way outside for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Yeah, would it be rude to say he might have bet on whether or not he was going to field that play? Oh man, you're going after my my my man Pete. That pitch in there, swinging a miss for strike one. One ball, one strike. Well, we we'll have to agree to disagree on whether or not he should be in the Hall of Fame. If you put him in, you got to put Shoeless Joe in. We could go on and on and on about that. I I do agree with you, Mike, as far as that. That pitch on the outside corner for strike two. One ball, two strikes. And shoeless Joe should be in, but that's what I'm just saying. I think there was a lot more evidence on Pete than there was on Shoeless Joe, and I just think that was uh they didn't like the owner of the White Sox at the time, and we're gonna prove a point, but I mean, then you I mean you're talking, and we could go to Roger Clemens and and and Barry Baum. I mean, we could we could oh my gosh, it's just a debate. We could go on for a long time. But here we got a two-and-two count. Alex trying to get out of this inning. Ooh. Just high for ball three. Three balls, two strikes. Just a little bit high on that one. That's a tough one not to call. That's a tough one. I think a more veteran pitcher might have got that call, but umpire said you're gonna have to earn that one, young man. That pitch outside for ball four. I'm thinking an umpire seeing a 10-0 lead might want to open up his zone a little bit so he can get out of here. Yeah. Frankel draws the walk. That'll bring the top of the order up. Gavin Warren steps in. Sergeant Bluff Lee trails this one. 10 to nothing. We're in the top of the fifth. Again, they need at least one run to extend this game. Let's hope John didn't jinx us by overnight. That pitch outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Let's just throw some strikes and let's let our uh let's let our defense do the job. Yeah, you're second, short, and third baseman. They've all proved that they can make plays tonight. So let them put it into play to one of those guys and let's get out of this. Here's the pitch. That pitch is high and outside for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Take that pitcher's best friend again to end the inning a double play. Arod looks in. Long look. There's the pitch. Outside ball three. Three balls, no strikes. Yeah, he's having a little trouble finding the zone here. Just his last three pitches. Actually, last four. Frankel down there at first base. I would imagine there was no green light here. Good test. Pitch in there for a strike. Three balls, one strike. No. Warren down at first. One out. Top of the fifth inning. Crusaders lead 10 to nothing. He's got Schaener about 10 feet behind third base. I mean. There's a pitch. Nice hit. Good ball's hit out to Knapp in center field. Oh man. Runs in, makes the catch for the second out. That's how you get a jump on a ball right there, Mike. I mean, he he had a beat on that right off the bat. Great jump. Mr. Dylan Knapp with the play out in center field for the second out. That'll bring Brody Wegger to the plate. Last chance here for the Warriors to keep this inning alive. Arod delivers. Pitch in there for strike one. No balls one strike. He's come in and done a really good job pitching. Yeah, he has. He has. He's solid. He he works fast. Um kind of lost his just a little focus there on that last batter, and looks like he's found it. Pitch in the dirt. Alright, when I say that, he he gets one in the dirt to Peyton. One ball, one strike in the dirt, in the ground up tires, whatever you want to call it. Got away from Peyton far enough that Frankel was able to take off to second base. Just high. Two balls, one strike. That's a good pitch. You know, and Wagner's not exactly short. I think he looks like about a 6'1 kid. 6'2. He's got to be the tallest of the Wagner kids. Oh yeah. Yeah. Here's the pitch. That pitch outside. Three balls, one strike. I mean, we got first base open here. I mean, no harm, no foul. I mean, it just would like to get it and like to end it right here. Come back on him. Frankel down at second. Two outs for the Warriors here in the top of the fifth. They trail 10 to nothing. 3-1 count to Brody Wegger. A-Rod takes a long look in. Deals to the plate. Just outside for ball four. Second walk of the inning. Given up by A-Rod. Peyton's wisely going out there. I like this. Going out, just saying, you know what? Let the defense do the job. Throw strikes. Inside, outside. You know, and let's get out of here. Got to force out any base. Got a guy in first and second, so any uh any base other than home, uh, you gotta force. Brings Merrill to the plate. He singled his first time up and hit into a fielder's choice his last time up. Yeah, good hitter. I mean, if anybody's gonna extend the game, uh, it's Merrill. I mean, he's here's the pitch. Well, that hit out to Dillon in center field. He takes about three steps, settles under it, and that'll do it, folks. Merrill flies out to center field to end the game. Crusaders take this one 10-0. They stay perfect in the Missouri River Activities Conference with a 10-0 record. They move to 11-2 on the season. I mean, what a great job by Rodriguez coming in and finishing for Gaswin. Yeah, he did a great job. Solid endings. Probably wasn't expecting coming in. Let's uh they're shaking hands. Let's talk a little bit about the bats, Mike. I mean uh before we end this, I mean, what a great job at the bottom of our lineup has has done over the last probably week. I want to say the last four to six games. Really just a huge improvement. Yeah, it's uh it's been fun to watch. They've obviously started to focus a lot more on the hitting side of it. And we get a week off, John. You have a safe trip to Des Moines on Thursday for boys soccer. And I, depending on how the girls do, whenever they get over to Ames, will either be here or not be here next Tuesday. But the next broadcast will be next Tuesday against the East High Black Raiders. If you want to come see that one, you better get here early, folks. Pregame 345, first pitch, four o'clock for that first game. Appreciate everybody tuning in and go, Crusaders. It's 200.
