We now interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to bring you this broadcast of Crusader's Orthodox. We would like to thank the donors, benefactors, and sponsors that make this broadcast possible. We now send you straight to the action on your Catholic Radio Station, channel 88.1 FM, AFHC Ponka Su City, K-O-I-A Storm Lake. Hello to everyone out in Crusader Nation. I'm Mike Skaggs joined by John Tritz. We're out here on a beautiful sunny day, getting ready to watch the Bishop Healan Crusaders take on the Sgt. Bluff Warriors. And John, you've been a road warrior. I have. I have. How about those uh Healing boys in the soccer? I got a grandson uh playing for the boys' soccer team and got down to state and they won their first round, so they'll play Thursday night, Mike. That's that's good stuff. And of course, the girls are in action tonight at Bishop Mueller Field. I mean Bishop Memorial Field. Yep. I'm at the baseball park. My mind's locked on that. But they'll be playing Lamar's tonight in their first round match. And should they win that one, they will play on Thursday for a chance to head to Ames and be a part of the state tournament over there. Well, John, uh Friday, you got to leave early and go watch soccer. And I was here for the final game of a long day of baseball. And uh, for those of you who you know went online, saw the score, looked at the stats, listened, uh didn't go the way the Crusaders wanted. Uh really kind of not surprised by the way things went. They were they were giving some kids an opportunity to pitch that they haven't seen yet, uh, but it's all valuable experience that's gonna help them as the season goes on. There's no question about it. And I did have a chance to talk to Coach Welsman, and it's kind of one of those games, you just gotta throw it out. You know, we played six games in three days, Mike. And bottom line, I mean, we really we had we were down to our last handful of arms, throwing kids, uh, like you said, to get experience and great experience to do because West Lion, just not uh take anything away from them. They are a good ball club, big kids, hit the ball hard, etc. etc. But we also with we were also without uh Peyton Erickson, uh, which is just huge to not have him back there. Uh for those of you that have been listening, for those of you that haven't been listening, Peyton got hurt uh against West uh in a collision at first base. But the good news is he's out here today. Yeah, that's huge. And uh, you know Raiden Frelick, the the young catcher that that caught in that second game, uh he did an amazing job, and there was a there was a hit out to the fence that Tommy Carroll picked up and threw in, and JJ Hope threw home on a rope and Ryden got it and did the swipe tag, and they got the guy out at home and and saved a run, which you know it's 14 to 2. You don't think that's a big deal, but 14 sounds better than 15. Ryden's gonna be a good catcher. Let's just make no bones about Ryden. He's got a lot of potential, he's a young freshman, and he's a kid that that didn't grow up catching Mike. He did not, you know, he kind of converted to being a catcher, and and what what a better person to be behind right now than one of the Erickson boys. You know, they come from a lineage of catchers, and and Raiden's learning the ropes, and he like you said, he got some valuable experience. Yeah, he did uh when they last year when they they needed a catcher for JV, no one stepped up, and Raiden uh raised his hand. He saw it as an opportunity to get some playing time and get out on the field probably sooner than he might have otherwise, and took advantage of it and and really stepped into that role on on Friday. And and there were some other young kids that that you know played on Friday that hadn't played uh during the season. So they got some game experience, and uh some others were able to get a rest and and kind of rest their body and and hopefully uh they can build on on the bad experience uh from Friday and get it out of the way and and come out here ready to play Sergeant Bluff tonight. Yeah, that let's talk a little bit about Sergeant Bluff. Uh before we get into Healens lineup, uh Mike. I had a chance to talk to Coach Nelson uh before the game. Coach Nelson, veteran coach over at Sergeant Bluffs, came here in 2007 as an assistant under a legendary coach uh from Sergeant Bluff uh uh Need Needmeyer, is it Needmeyer, I think was his name. Um and then uh took over as the head coach in tw in 2016. Lost a lot of seniors last year, so he's kind of out got some young kids that are rebuilding, and some of the kids that he kind of highlighted that is that are doing well now, uh Gavin Miller uh hitting 375, uh Emmick Knife hitting 300 with it with a uh uh uh on base percentage of 500. And then uh Gavin Warren, uh who's their leadoff hitter, uh uh might pitch today, but he says that he's their best best athlete. And then uh Huffman, who'll be the starting pitcher today, said he saw some really good innings out of him against East last week. Uh and thinks he'll give Healand some fits with his style and uh and just the way he moves around the ball. And then Carter Hayes, um uh son of BJ Hayes, and and then of course his grandpa, the legendary coach out there at Ponka, Coach Hayes out there at Ponka, and now the A D at uh Sergeant Bluff Luton. Um he says the key for them is just to keep the ball inside, outside, make them uh hit the ball, grounders, and hopefully their guys can make the plays and no errors. And that that'll be the key to keep them in the game to the to the end, you know, to the last few innings. Well, let's hope that their catcher's not as good moving the ball inside and out as our catcher is because uh, as we talked about, Peyton does a phenomenal job, and we're gonna take a two-minute break. The umpires are out at home plate awaiting the coaches, and we'll be back in two minutes. As we prepare for this athletic competition with the Crusaders, we want to take an opportunity to offer a pregame prayer, keeping in mind the safety and the enthusiasm of all sporting events and for the safety of our own students and those of our opponents. Let us pray in the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit, and amen. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Thank you, listeners, and go, crusaders. You're listening to FM 88.1, KFHC, Ponka Sioux City, and KOIA, Storm Lake, Siouxland Catholic Radio. And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic Radio Station. Welcome back, everyone, to Bishop Mueller Field. I'm Mike Skaggs, joined by John Tritz. We'll get through the starting lineups for both teams. Leading off for Sergeant Bluff, playing third base, batting 419 will be Gavin Warren. Batting second playing shortstop, batting 286 will be Brady Wegger. There's a name that Heal and families uh would recognize. Batting third, playing first base, Gavin Merrill, batting average 375. Batting cleanup will be Emmett Knife, batting average of 300, and he will be roaming around in right field. Playing center field for the Warriors will be Carter Hayes, batting average of 310. Batting sixth and playing center field will be Kyler Tyndall. He comes in with a batting average of 160. Batting seventh, playing second base, Gavin Anderson batting 333. Batting eighth and DHing with a batting average of 276 will be Crew Christensen, and he will be DH'ing for the pitcher Braden Huffman. Batting ninth for Sergeant Bluff will be Micah Frankel with a batting average of 095, and he will be catching. Batting order for the Healing Crusaders. Leading off, JJ Hope. He is second in 3A with hits with 16. And he's got a 410 batting average. Batting second, Peyton Erickson back in the lineup, comes in with a batting average of 280. He will be playing catcher. Batting third, DHing and pitching, doing it all tonight. Caleb LaFaver with a batting average of 562, and he leads the state in 3A in hits with 18. Batting fourth, playing third base, Brody Shaner. Batting average of 306. Batting fifth, Tommy Carroll playing left field, batting average 323. Batting sixth, Nathan Gaswent playing right field, batting average of 143. Batting seventh, Aiden LeFavor. Got his first RBI by hit on Friday, batting average of 125. He will be playing first base. Batting eighth, Chase Beck playing second base, batting average of 217, and batting ninth, playing center field. A young man who really drove his batting average up in that double header on Friday is Dylan Knapp. He comes in with a batting average of 308. Aiden Lefavre comes into the game with a pitching record of 1-0. Teams are batting.062 against him. He's given up two hits, one run, which was earned. He's walked two, hit four batters, and those were all in the North game last week. Struck out 17 and has a ERA of.81. Yeah, I I I've highlighted some of that stuff, Mike, talking about Caleb Lefavre. He leads the team in batting average, he leads the team in slugging percentage, and he leads the team in on-base percentage. And that's that's just on the offensive side of it, obviously. You get into the pitching side of it, uh.81 ERA. Uh just incredible. And and that one run, I think the first game we did, first inning. Yep. Here we go, boys. Gavin Warren steps in from the left side. Caleb looks in for the side, wind up and deliver. Pitch way outside for ball one. Sergeant Bluff has the orange tops, black short sleeve shirts, gray pants with the orange stripe down the side. Bishop Healing is in the pinstripes. Blue numbers, gold caps. Pitch number two. That pitch is outside for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Yeah, he just uh first two pitches, he kind of airmailed those a little bit uh just over Peyton's head. Uh he's gotta get uh just relaxed, get his form down, get his follow-through there. There's the pitch. Uh just missed the outside corner for ball three, three balls, no strikes. A little reminiscent of his first two starts. Yeah. That pitch in there on the outside corner for strike one. I was just gonna say that, Mike. This is exactly how he started in both his first two games. Um, just takes him a couple couple pitches to find that zone. That pitch breaks in there for strike two. And if you haven't been out or you haven't been listening, uh there is a whole lot of scouts right behind home plate. Radar guns, that pitch high for ball four. Radar guns and everything. Warren will draw the walk. That will bring up Brady Wegger. And like we talked about last week at North, as soon as Caleb comes out of the game, the crowd reduces greatly. Yeah, no question about it. Let's go back to that first batter. You know, just took him a few pitches to get his zone going, but once he did, he he's right around the plate. First pitch to Wegger is high for ball one. Yeah, he's he's got you know, he's gotta get that release point just a little bit down, a little farther, Mike. Just a little high on his shoulder. Throw over to first. Warren back in time. I mean how good it is is it to have Peyton Erickson back behind the plate. I mean, just the inside outside uh alone is incredible. Here's the pitch to Wegger inside for ball two, two balls, no strikes. Wagger just a freshman. Probably hasn't seen anybody throw in the 90s, so this will be this will be uh new for him. Here's the pitch to Wegger inside for ball three, three balls, no strikes. Peyton, Peyton just get him get him nice and relaxed here. Pitch by the favorite runner first goes. Throw down to second. He is in with the stolen base. That pitch was in there for a strike. That's a great throw by Peyton, Mike. Three balls, one strike. Beck was both of them were a little slow getting over there. Fortunately, that didn't go into center field. Yeah, they were slow getting over there, and and and you know, a lot of people think you're stealing off the catcher, and you're not. You're stealing off the pitcher, and he got a great jump uh on Caleb. That pitch to Wagger on the outside corner for strike two. Full count to Brady. Gavin Merrow is due up next. Yeah, painted that corner. I look for him to come back with that same slider on the outside corner here, Mike. Caleb with the delivery. And he did. That pitch hit out to Gaswent and right field. I'd like to see that he makes the play. This is gonna be close. No. Wager flies out to Gaswent and right field for the first out. Warren advances on the sacrifice. That'll bring up Gavin Merrill. Yeah, Wager did his job. You know, he he got that ball out in the outfield up in the air to advance the run to the third, set up uh, you know, a uh sacrifice, any anything on the ground. Oh, here we go. Good job by Peyton. Warren chooses not to come in. That first pitch was outside for ball one. I don't think Warren was ready. We know we both know how fast Caleb uh likes to work. I do not think he was ready. Well favor with the wind up. That ball hit sharply to Dental Knapp out in center field. Off his glove. Warren will score from third. Sergeant Bluff leads one to nothing. And Merrill is on first due to the air in center field. That will bring Emmett Knife to the plate. Yeah, that's a perfect example. I think Dylan trying to make make the play before he before the play. You know what I mean? He was he was setting himself up to make a play to home plate. And sometimes you you start the play before you actually even made the catch. And I think that was the case there. And he tried to one-hand that catch. That pitch in there to Knife for strike one. No balls, one strike. First batter that Caleb has been able to get ahead of. Carter Hayes is up next. Here's the pitch. Breaks in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Beautiful sweeper on the inside corner, catching that black of the plate. I mean, that's a tough pitch to hit. Favor heels. High and inside for ball one. One ball, two strikes. Yeah, he's uh he's really uh you know, right now he's just having a little trouble with that follow through, Mike. That ball fouled out of play. We'll get that corrected. And what I mean by that on the follow-through mic is that his release point is just a little high, and they'd like to probably see that release point down more toward the middle of the body. Pitch by Lefavre. High and inside for ball two, two balls, two strikes. Yeah, I know there's a million rating services out there, but I think the last one I saw, uh Caleb, was the 180th Major League Baseball prospect. So uh that's about a fifth or sixth round. And Kenaifa went around on that for the strikeout, out number two. That was a good call by the umpire. That was a tough one. That's a tough call. And the guy out in the field would not have been able to help him on that. So, you know, he did go around and and good job by him staying with the play. Top of the first two outs, runner on first. Sergeant Bluff leads one to nothing, pitch by Lafavre. That fooled Hayes. He ducked out of the way, it broke cross air for strike one. One ball, no start or no balls, one strike. Now Peyton setting up, gonna go outside corner again. Same pitch, looks like. Yep. He's got it working now. Yeah, he does. Yep. No balls, two strikes on Hayes. Coming back with that slider, you know, that's his go-to pitch, and we've talked about that, Mike. Is his go-to pitch really is that slider. Runner from first goes. Swing and a miss, strike three. So LeFaver ends that inning with two strikeouts. However, Sergeant Bluff is able to push one run across. We're going to the bottom of the first. Sergeant Bluff leads one to nothing. We'll be back in 30. McClintonk Insurance has been an insurance staple in Iowa for over 60 years. During this time, we have continuously provided our customers with highly competitive rates. And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic Radio station. On the mound for Sergeant Bluff will be Braden Huffman. Comes in with a record of 1-1. Teams have a batting average against him of 163. He's given up seven hits, eight runs, five of those earned. He has walked four, hit four batters, and struck out eight. He's got an ERA of 3.89. Healing will start off with JJ Hope, Peyton Erickson, and Caleb Lefaver here in the top of the or bottom of the first. JJ Batting 410 coming into this game. Number five, JJ Hope. Boy, Jay Wright's got a little enthusiasm in his voice, getting the crowd fired up. First pitch. JJ fouls that down the third baseline for strike one. No balls, one strike. I mean, let's talk a little bit about JJ. Just the job he's been doing at shortstop, Mike. I mean, we we know what he can do when he gets on the base pass. You know, he's 15 for 17 stealing. Um pitch. Throw over. Just beats JJ. Yeah, good stroke by JJ. Uh just hit it right to him. Yeah, I mean, the job that he's been doing at shortstop, we've we've commented about that. I mean, we've seen, we've literally seen the growth right in front of us and the maturity uh on playing that position. Uh the play he made uh on Friday, one of the best plays we've probably seen. Yep. Yeah, very good job. Peyton Erickson steps in. First pitch is low for ball one, one ball, no strikes. What a beautiful night for baseball, just a nice nice light wind going right to left. Caleb Lefavor is on deck. Here's a pitch from Huffman on that outside corner for a strike. Two balls, one strike. Good consistency so far by the umpire. I know it's early, but that's a good pitch right there. Another pitch on the outside corner. Two balls, two strikes. Yeah, he really painted that. Right on the black on the outside. That's two in a row they've gone out there. I'm guessing they're gonna go there again. And they are. Here's the pitch. Yeah. Way outside for ball three. Count goes full on Peyton Erickson. Caleb Lefaver awaits his turn. Yeah, Peyton Peyton took a little step in. Up on right on the line there. Upman in the windup. Here's the pitch. That bounces in there for ball four. Erickson draws the walk. He'll trot down to first base to turn around and trot back to the dugout. I would imagine Hendricks Heaton is going to come in and run for him. And as usual, he does. Up the plane. Caleb LaFaver will step in from the left side. Heaton with the short leadoff first at the moment. Huffman looks in. That's trouble. Lefaver hits that out to the left fielder who settles under it and makes the play for out number two. That will bring Brody Shaner to the plate. Guys are coming up aggressive, but we're swinging at that first pitch. You know, obviously they've probably seen Huffman before and know that he's going to be right around the zone and give him something to hit. And I I like it. Personally, I like being aggressive at the plate. That pitch in there for strike one. Caught that black on the inside corner. Again, Erickson at first base, pinch running for Peyton Erickson who drew the walk. That ball hit hard by Shaner. It's fair. That's a fair ball. Heaton's got to get moving. Come on. Heaton stops at third. Shaner in with the double. That'll put runners at second and third. Two outs. Tommy Carroll steps in. Tommy's been swinging the bat really well lately. Yes. Opportunity to get a run or two across here. Yeah, Shaner wrote that. Warning track right on the just about two feet inside the line. And uh kind of that spot. We he likes to pull the ball, Mike, and and we've seen that a few times. Carroll fouls that down the third the first baseline for strike one. No balls one strike. I think something was said over the weekend about being a little more aggressive on the first pitch. Because we we kind of been talking about that, you know. Yeah. Yeah, you don't want to give uh give a good pitcher a chance to settle in. Shanner with quite a lead out there at second base. Not being held on. Here's the pitch. Outside gets away. Oh Heaton. Similar to Sergeant Bluff runner in the first inning. I don't I don't know that he was paying attention and ready to take the break. It didn't get away very far, so. No, but he a good if he would have got a good jump, I think he would have made it. But yeah, he he didn't get a good jump on that. I don't think he saw it, Mike. Upman looks in, deals. That pitch way outside. Ketcher tried to catch that and bring it in and frame, and and uh that's what you call over framing, Mike. Yeah, absolutely. Two balls, one strike. That pitch outside for ball three, three balls, one strike. Gas went to up next. Okay. Huffman working pretty quickly. Here's the pitch. Carroll fouls that back into the net. Brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Sergeant Bluff leads bottom of the first, one to nothing. Healing threatening with two runners on. Here's the pitch by Huffman. Low for ball four. That will load the bases with Crusaders. That brings Gaswin up. Well, we've seen this chance before. Opportunity for Gaswin to clear the bases. What more can you ask for? These guys throwing it right down the middle. Gaswin hits that out to the right fielder. Oh, he off his glove. One run will score. Two runs will score. Gaswent reaches on the air by the right fielder. And Heaton and Shayner score to give Healen the lead two to one here in the bottom of the first. Healan still with runners at second and third with two outs. And that brings Aiden Lefaver up. That right there, Mike, is why you hustle to first base. Two-hand? Yep. And make a two-handed catch, absolutely. Both the airs in the outfield have been a one-handed, let's be fancy catch. That first pitch to Aiden outside for ball one. Yeah, let's be cool and just stick the glove out, and that's what happens. There's a chance for Aiden to help his brother out here and get a couple in. Absolutely. Big swing and a miss there by Lefavre for strike one. One ball, one strike. Gas win at second, Carroll at third. Healing leads two to one. We're in the bottom of the first. Here's the pitch to Aiden. Pops that out of play for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Yeah, catcher's really working this outside corner. And uh, you know, obviously they've done their scouting report a little bit on us because that's a I mean he's set up there, I bet 80% of the time. Here's the pitch. That's cut. The favor fouls that back almost right at us. Count remains one ball, two strikes. Chase back, do up next. Huffman looks in. Starts his wind up. Here's the pitch. Nice cut. Aiden right on that. Fouls that back into the net. Remains one ball, two strikes. Yeah, we talked a little bit last week about working with two outs, and here we go, Mike. All of our runs, two runs right now, all with two outs. Here's the wind up by Huffman. Nice hit. Hayden lines that back up the middle. Bounces in front of the center fielder. One run of score. You got to play at the plate here. Oh my goodness. Wow. Tommy Carroll will score. Gas went thrown out at the plate. Sergeant Bluffcatcher looks like he got banged up a little bit on that. Boy, he must have caught his head on the helmet when he went to tag. He must have you're right. We're gonna take a 30-second break and we'll be back. As we get ready to head to the top of the second here, the Crusaders push three across in their half of the inning. They'd lead three to one. Sergeant Bluff will send Kyler Tyndall, Gavin Anderson, and Crew Christensen to the plate. Now we've got a chance here to talk about some of our underwriters and sponsors of Bishop Healing Baseball Catholic Radio, the Bargain Center, Barclay Asphalt, BCU Catholic Connection Scholarship, Bob Rose, Point After and North End Zone, Bush Dry Cleaners, Catholic Charities, and Central Bank Sioux City Storm Lake. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healan Baseball and Catholic Radio. Like to let everyone know you'll want to hang around between games. We'll have future Hall of Fame Iowa High School Bishop Healan baseball coach Andy Osborne in the booth with us. We're going to find out what life is like after he retired from baseball and see what he's been up to. And we might even have another, we will have Tim Swadeen in for a few minutes, and we also have uh former Bishop Healan baseball star out in the crowd as a scout. We're gonna try to get him up here and ask him a couple questions as well. So as we get ready to start the inning here, Tyndall steps in from the left side. First pitch by Caleb on that outside corner for a strike, strike one. That individual you're talking about is uh Hall of Famer uh Joe Bicinius, both in the Healing Hall of Fame and Iowa High School Baseball Hall of Fame. Second pitch on the outside corner for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Two pitches, two strikes. This inning, John. Big change from the first inning. Yeah, he getting that first pitch in is huge. Come back on that second with the backdoor sweeper. That's another one. Oh wow. Okay, one ball, two strikes. That was exact same pitch, exact same location. So um just missed. Might have been just a bit like just a little bit loud side. Here's the pitch by Caleb. Swing and a miss for strike three. That's three straight strikeouts for Lefaver. That will bring up Gavin Anderson. We're in the top of the second. Healing leads Sergeant Bluff, three to one. Yeah, just like up at North, you know, I mean, he is almost identical start, and then he comes back in that second inning and a strike there, curveball in the outside corner for strike one. But just like at North, I mean, I think he got in that second, third, and fourth inning and just had uh complete control of the pitches. That pitch gets away from Erickson. One ball, one strike. Swing and a miss for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Christensen would be up next. You know, one thing that Joe likes to do in with a catcher like Peyton is he really likes to work that corner on inside and outside. That pitch outside for ball two, two balls, two strikes. Well, Peyton struggle. That ankle still bothering him a little bit. Yeah, he's he's not set up the way he normally does. You can tell the ankles still bother him quite a bit. Here's the pitch. That ball hit out to Beckett second base. He feels it, throws to second. Smooth as a big thing. That stops the three streak of strikeouts at three. Two out for Sergeant Bluff here in the top of the second, and that will bring Crewe Christensen to the plate. Should he extend the inning? Micah Franklin Frankel will follow him. Yeah, Beckett, just so smooth over there. Yeah, he was one of those questions, Mark, at the start of the season, and he's he's answered it and then some. Yeah. Yeah, defensively, he's just absolutely phenomenal. Caleb with the wind up and the delivery. That pitch breaks in there for strike one. One no ball is one strike. Caleb much more efficient this inning. And the pitch, that one breaks in there for strike two. That pitch was coming right at him and and just froze him and then broke on the inside corner. Uh just I mean, it's almost unhittable when he does that. Yep, see if he comes back with that same pitch. No, just comes with the heat. He's gonna get on strikeout. Strikeout, ball got away from Peyton. Christensen will trot down to first base. Two outs. Christensen at first, and that will bring up Micah Frankel. Yeah, Peyton's Matt. He's a little upset at himself. And you know, that's just there's your sign of a good catcher right there. I mean, he's he he he knows he should have had that, got a guy on first, you know. That and that's when you just say every look right at the picture and say, This is my bad, you know. He's got something going on, he's something either helmet or his glove. Got a timeout here. Yeah, and you can you could tell as he took off for that ball uh behind the plate. Yeah, he's still struggling a little bit with that ankle, he's favoring it quite a bit. Well, let's see, he's switching he's switching masks. I'd like to give a shout out to Eloise and Clara Porsche. They're listening as they're in the car or sitting at home. Hi, ladies, thank you for listening. Absolutely. I've got uh well, I'll give that in here in between pitches, Mike. Hold on here. Caleb LaFavor delivers outside ball one to Frankel. Two of my sisters, uh my sister uh Nancy uh had cataract surgery today. They're up there right now in the waiting room, and her and my sister Barb. Shout out to both of them. Here's the pitch. Good pitch. One ball, one strike to Frankel. Christensen on first, and Warren would be due up next. Nice. That in there for a strike, one ball, two strikes. That thing looks like it's coming right at you and then just breaks at the last minute. And Peyton's just he's working it inside outside. Caleb with the pitch. Swing and a miss for strike three. That will retire the side for Sergeant Bluff from the top of the second. We'll go to the bottom of the second. Healing leads three to one. We'll be back in 30 seconds. We are back here at Bishop Mueller Field. Beautiful sunny day. Healing leads this one three to one as we head to the bottom of the second. They'll send up Chase Beck, Dylan Knapp, and the top of the order, JJ Hope. It'll be really uh talking to Coach Nelson before the game, having Andy Osborne up here in between games, Mike. Those two are really good friends. Matter of fact, I used to listen to uh the late afternoon uh sports show with Curtis Anderson, and he'd have both those guys on. And if you're a baseball fan, those two would go back and forth and banner and talk baseball for like an hour. And it it just and I told him, I told Coach Nelson Andy was gonna be here today, and he just big smile on his face and said he misses his good friend. Well, if we'd have known we were gonna be in this position down the road, John, we should have recorded some of those and and listened to it and picked up a lot of baseball knowledge. Well, yeah, they yeah, between the two of them, uh uh they probably know just a little bit more than you and I. Yeah, that that wouldn't take much on my part. You're you're the Hall of Famer, you're the expert. Chase Beck steps in here to lead off for healing in the bottom of the second. Second baseman, Chase Beck. It's first pitch by Huffman. Oh, and that inside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike. Yeah, a little high strike inside corner, but nothing. Huffman deals. Beck fouls that off at the plate, no balls, two strikes. I'd like to see him just kind of get out of that funk and get string together about two or three hits. Yeah, it'd be nice. He's bottom of the order. I mean, I talked about it with a couple of them. They had no place to go but up with the batting average, but they've all increased their batting average in the last week. Here's a pitch by Huffman. Nice, there we go. That's lined up the middle. One bouncer off the pitcher's glove. Asking you shell received, Mike. Beautiful, right up the middle. That'll put Beck on first with the base hit. That'll bring up Dylan Knapp, who has really driven his batting average up. He was uh he was below 100 whenever we went into Friday's doubleheader. I mean, talk about the job that Dylan's been doing. Uh just a total transformation of his swing, Mike. Hoffman looks in. Here's a pitch. Big swing and a miss by Dillon for strike one. No balls, one strike. Yeah, he uh I mean I I can't count on one hand the amount of times he took that ball to right field. Just did a great job inside out hitting. There's a big gap between first and second base here. Be good to put one through there here. There we go. And he fouls that one off for strike two. No balls, two strikes. I mean, we we we got we got situation baseball here. We got uh you know, we got Beck over there getting a nice lead. Now you now the head game start here. Here's the pitch by Huffman. Swing and a miss by Dillon for strike three. That will be the first strikeout for Huffman. That's out number one. That'll bring JJ Hope to the plate. It's a little surprised Dylan didn't come up and and at least square around once and maybe try to bunt on that. You know, well, you and I both know. We're both fans of small ball, and I don't mind seeing that. I mean, let's get the guy in scoring position. And and now we gotta we gotta try to manufacture it a different way here. Beck with a good lead off first. That pitch in there low for ball one, one ball, no strikes. I mean, we know JJ can lay it down at any time, especially when you got the third baseman like he is, playing about eight feet behind. Beck working his way off first base here. Pitcher steps off, looks over at first, no throw. Beck able to get back. And that hits JJ. That will put runners at first and second. Yeah. That'll bring Peyton Erickson to the plate. I I mean, that ball doesn't hit JJ. If that if it if it's a straight pitch, Beck, he had a I mean, he took off before he even started his wind up. He did. Now we've got some discussion with Sergeant Bluff Coach saying that JJ leaned into it, but that pitch was that pitch was so far inside that he'd had to been in the dugout to get missed by it. Yeah, yeah, that was way inside. Yeah, the Sergeant Bluff coach was telling JJ to go back home. Umpire said, no, that's my decision, not yours. So we've got runners in first and second, one out. That'll bring Peyton Erickson to the plate. Caleb Lefavre to follow. Okay. Peyton walked his first time up and scored a run. Huffman checks a runner at second, delivers. That pitch inside. Good corner for strike one, no balls, one strike. And here's another pitcher that he's still looking back at second base when he starts his wind up to come home. Yeah. Well, some you know, I'm sure Coach said something to him. He did he didn't look over at all at Beck on at first, and that's and Beck just got a huge jump. Here's the pitch. Ooh, nice pitch. That breaks in there for strike two, no balls, two strikes. Throwing him two really good pitches. That that first pitch on the inside corner was just was perfect, and that's a pitch we haven't seen yet, Mike. That last one he threw kind of an over the over the top hanger, just a little looper. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss by Peyton for strike three. Second out of the inning. That will bring up Caleb Lefavre, who flew out to center field his first time up. That's a pitch Peyton would like back, I'm sure. Caleb hit the ball hard out to center field his first time up. I could beck. That pitch way outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Two outs. Uh you got your best hitter up at the plate. I mean get a good lead off. This guy's he does not have a good move back to the base. You can get off. Here's the pitch to plate by Huffman on the outside corner for strike one. One ball, one strike. Yeah, he definitely painted the black on that one. Shortstop's playing over. I mean, and Caleb, we've seen it. He he can take that ball the opposite field as good as anybody. Shortstop just giving a huge gap. Pitcher steps off, looks back towards second. I mean, they're playing him to pull. And we know he can pull, but Mike, you and I've seen him put it right down that line on the left side. Absolutely. Here's a pitch by Huffman. Caleb hits that back to the shortstop, fields it, steps on second base for the third out. Shortstop didn't break off of second base, Mike. It took about two steps over and balls get right to him. Absolutely. That'll retire the side for Healand in the bottom of the second. We'll head to the top of the third. Healing leads three to one. We'll be back in 30. Yep, don't need to say that one. Culligan, Cybercloak Tech, LLC, and Dave Pepin Real Estate, LLC. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healan Baseball and Catholic Radio. Yep, we appreciate all the underwriters. Failed to mention Healan comes into this game with a record of 9-2. Sit alone atop the Missouri River Activities Conference with an 8-0 record. They have a one-game lead over the East High Black Raiders. Sergeant Bluff comes into this game with a record of 4-5. They are 4-4 in the Missouri River Activities Conference. And speaking of East High, that will be our next broadcast. That will be next Tuesday. Games at 4 6. Pre-game will be at 3 45. You might not have to listen to me next week. It'll depend on how the Healing Girls Soccer team is doing. I usually make the trip over to state with them. But uh John and Tim Swadin will fill in. I think we're up there. Yep, we're up there. That ball fouled off by Warren. No balls, one strike. Yeah, good pitch on the inside corner there. Warren, Warren looking for it. He got a good cut on that, but uh just foul. Yep, Warren steps in from the left side. Here's the pitch by Caleb. That's in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Same way he started last inning, two quick strikes. Yeah, Caleb works so fast. I mean, he's got that ball, and I mean there's no question. I mean good morning, good afternoon, and good night. That's a strikeout for Caleb Lefaver. Out number one. We don't have to worry about the the clock uh when Caleb uh when Caleb's at the next level. I don't think you have to worry about that. No, you don't. And what you'll what he'll have to worry about if he gets to Iowa is the umpire stepping out, pointing at his eyes and pointing at Caleb. It's like you have to wait until the batter's ready. And Caleb's not into that. Caleb wants let's pitch, let's play ball. I love it. I love it. First pitch to Weggers outside for ball one. He flew out to guess went right field his first time up. That pitch in there for a strike. One ball, one strike. Yeah, he had a good at bat last time. Got that ball up in the air and did what he was supposed to. Got him, got him over to right that third base. Ooh. Boy, just a little bit outside, Mike. I thought he might have had the black on that, but just a little bit outside. Two balls, one strike to Wegger. Merrill is on deck. That ball hit out to Knapp in center field. He runs in, settles under it. Two-handed catch. Unlike the first inning, he got the two hands on that one. For out number two, that'll bring Gavin Merrill to the plate. He reached on an error by Knapp in the first inning and was stranded. Here's the pitch by Caleb. That pitch in there for a strike. No balls, one strike. Yeah, it just that that pitch, it just freezes those guys. I mean, they they think he's coming right at them. That second pitch in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Yeah, beautiful fastball. Followed it up belt high. Yeah, he's coming back. Here comes Caleb with that pitch outside. Tried to get him to chase one. That one ball, one str one ball, two strikes. Two outs. Top of the third. Healan leads three to one. Here's the pitch by Caleb. That pitch in there for strike three. That will do it in the top of the third for Sergeant Bluff. They send three up. Three down. Healan still leads this one three to one as we head to the bottom of the third. We'll be back in 30. Healing will send Schayner, Carroll, and Gaswent to the plate here in the bottom of the third. Caleb's really found his zone, Mike. I mean, after that first couple of batters, you know, it seems like he he struggles a little bit just coming out of the shoot. Um but once he finds that zone, I mean, uh, he's he's got everything working. Sliders hitting the corners, uh fastballs hitting the corners. I mean, he if you ever notice with Caleb and and if you're a pitcher and you really want to see how to work a battery you come out here, and I know it it's a huge having Peyton Erickson back there, but but you don't see anything down the middle. Everything's on the inside, outside. Just you know, doesn't give any the the hitters ever anything really tough to hit. Shayner steps in, doubled his first time up, and scored a run. Here's the first pitch to Brody. Bounces in there for ball one, one ball, no strikes. I meant good to hit, not tough to hit. Pitch by Huffman. That bounces in there for ball two, two balls, no strikes. Unofficially, I have Caleb at 46 pitches through three innings. Here's the pitch by Huffman on that outside corner for strike one, one ball, two strikes. Well, we we've seen him throw three, and then he went five. You know, I wonder if they're if they're gonna extend that tonight. Here's the pitch by Huffman. Nice shaner hits that hard to the shortstop. He scoops it up, throw over to first, gets him for the first out. One down for Healen. That'll bring Tommy Carroll to the plate. He walked his first time up and scored a run. You know, one of the players I was talking to Coach Wesselman before the game, uh, we do we've got access to another player. Um I'll talk about it here in between pitches, Mike. Here's a first pitch by Huffman. Let's tell you Carroll lines that back up the middle for a base hit. Beautiful piece of hitting. Uh Jonas Jensen, the sophomore, um, he was one of our players earlier in the season. He had got hit in the face. Coach didn't know if he'd have him available at all this summer, and he said he got released here uh, I think yesterday or today. So he's excited to have him back in. So it gives him some more uh options on the bases and and in the infield. So welcome back, Jonas. Yeah, Gaswin steps in here at pitch high for ball one. Yeah, um after that incident when he was in the hospital down in Omaha, he didn't remember anything about the incident, but all he kept talking about, the best thing that ever happened to him was coming to Bishop Healing. Yeah, and I've I've talked to uh my son-in-law Jeff Blander, one of the assistant coaches, and also my daughter, about trying to get Jonas up here and just talking about not what happened to him, but uh how things have been for him since he transferred over from Bishop Healing. He came from South Sioux, and the accident was his buddy from South Sioux was swinging and the the ball or the bat slipped out of his hand and and unfortunately caught him in the face. But I mean I saw him last week at North, and I had to ask, is this the kid that got hurt? I mean, he looks fantastic, and uh, like you said, it's great to have Jonas back. And if we get a chance before he he plays, I would like to get him up here and and uh just have a conversation with him about how life has been for him at Bishop Healing. One ball, two strikes to Gaswent. Sorry we got off on a tangent there, folks. But that's a good tangent, though. Yep, that's uh he's I've heard nothing but great things about him as a as a kid and a student, so uh looking forward to seeing him and getting to know him a little bit better. Aiden Lefaver is due up next. Carroll takes off. Nice. Nathan fouls that ball back out of play, remains one ball, two strikes. Yeah, Carroll has got a great lead over there. You know, this pitcher gets he gets you get guys on base and he gets a little edgy, you know, because he doesn't have a great move. Steps off, looks Tommy back. He's got him nervous. Tommy's got a good lead. He knows they're stealing on him and not the catcher. They're getting good jumps. Tommy goes again. Yeah, that pitch is high. Catcher unable to make the exchange and make the throw. Carroll down at second base with one out here in the bottom of the third. Crusaders lead three to one. Count is two balls, two strikes on Gaswent. He'll be followed by Aiden LaFerre and Chase Beck. Yeah, he he he takes so long to get the ball from his glove to the release point. They get great jumps. Here's the pitch. Nathan hits that out to right field. Right fielder still using that one-handed catch process, able to make the catch out there for out number two. That will bring up first baseman, Aiden Lefaver. Here we go. Two outs, guy on second. You know, the um situation baseball. We know Tommy's kind of in this pitcher's head a little bit. He's he he gets a little edgy like we were talking about earlier, gets a little jittery. And, you know, I wouldn't be surprised to see Tommy go here with uh with Aiden up and do a little hit and run. I wouldn't be surprised at all. Huffman deals to Aiden. That pitch on the outside corner for strike one. No balls one strike. Yeah, good job by the catcher outside corner. Nice pitch. Big hole between first and second. Pitcher turns and fakes throw to second base. Carroll gets back safely. Here's the pitch. Pitch high for ball one, one ball, one strike. Yeah, three to one. Uh bottom of the third here. I mean, it getting another run here would be sure nice. I mean give him a little more comfort, a little more room. Here's the pitch. That pitch inside. Carroll breaks for third. And he's in there. Yeah. Slid off, but was able to keep his foot on the bag. Well, initially his foot might have come up a little bit, but the cat the third baseman took his glove off and then put it back down. If he would have just kept it on. Well, then again, if he would have kept it on, he might have kept his feet down on the bags. That's true. Two balls, one strike to Aiden, runner at third base. Two outs here in the bottom of the third. That pitch sails over Aiden's head for ball three. Three balls, one strike. That was a curved ball didn't curve. Got it up. Tried to throw a spinner with no spin. Huffman comes set. Deals to the plate. Nice pitch. That's in there for strike two. That'll bring the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Tommy Carroll at third with two outs. Yeah, his go-to pitch is definitely the fastball in the outside corner. And he likes to throw it. He's coming with it again. Here's the pitch by Huffman. Nice pitch. LeFaver fouls that off out of play down the first baseline. Keeps the count. Three balls, two strikes. Healing trying to push another run across here in the bottom of the third. Extend their lead from three to one to four to one. Huffman checks Carroll at third. Deals to the plate. That ball is hit out. He's not going to get it. Gets away from the right fielder. Aiden holds up at first base. Tommy Scarlett will Tommy Carroll will score from third base. That'll make the score four to one Crusaders. Aiden reaches on a single, gets the RBI. That'll bring up Chase Beck, who singled his first time up. Good piece of hitting by Aiden. Took that ball inside out. And what I mean by that, he he had those fists coming through through the plate before the barrel. Yep. Yeah, that uh Sergeant Bluff is lucky that ball was not hit harder because the right fielder dove for it and missed it, and that ball would have still been rolling. Yeah, he's trying to look down there to see if he's got anybody throwing, but I I don't see anybody down there. Yeah. Sergeant Bluff coach is out there having a semi-animated conversation with his pitcher and his infield, so we'll see what comes out of that. Should Chase Beck get on, that would bring Dylan Knapp to the plate. My guess is he's he's out there talking to him about when you know relax and and uh don't let these runners get to you. Don't let the nerves. I mean. That ball bounces in there, gets away from the catcher. Aiden takes off to second base. He's in there safely. That first pitch to Chase is the ball. One ball, no strikes. Yeah, he definitely let Carroll get in his head and and uh affect his pitching. So that's my guess is that he said, you know, relax when these guys are on base. Here's the pitch inside to Chase, two balls, no strikes. Yeah, sometimes I think you're as a pitcher you're better off just not worrying about. I mean, you you keep them on, keep them close, but don't throw over and all that because I think it that ball hit sharp, bounces off the mound. Second baseman's not able to field it cleanly. Beck again, right up the middle. On with the single two times in a row, Mike. I mean, he took that ball straight up the middle. LaFaver able to get to third. That'll bring Dylan Knapp to the plate. Two outs. Crusaders have pushed one across in this inning. They lead four to one here in the bottom of the third. Yeah, I got to give him a hit on that. I'm sure you did. Yeah, if that if that had to hit the mound, it was gonna be cleanly through there. So Chase with a good lead over at first base. Pitchers worried about Chase. He steps off and looks over. Yeah, I'm telling you, he just gets he gets you know, he doesn't have a real quick throw to home, and I I and I think he I think he knows it. Here's the pitch. That pitch in there to Dylan for a strike, no balls, one strike. Yeah, I would imagine that Chase is gonna be going here pretty quick. Yeah, you gotta worst case scenario. You get thrown out and you got Dylan leading off the next inning. Here's a pitch to Dylan. He pops that up to the shortstop, shortstop settles under it, makes the play. For the third out, Healan pushes one run across, increases their lead to four to one. We'll head to the top of the fourth. We'll be back in 30. He struck out his first time up. That first pitch Knife hits him in the back. That'll put Knife at first base with no outs. And that will bring Hayes to the plate. There's one thing we know about Caleb Lefavre, and we've talked about this. He wants that inside corner. And and he's gonna go after it. That first pitch to Hayes, foul back. And every now and then that that's exactly what you see. You might see something like that where that that slider that he wanted to curve in, you know, just didn't break. But he wants that inside corner. No balls one strike. Pitch in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Tyndall would be up next. Yeah, good job by Peyton framing that on the outside. There's the pitch. Swing and a miss. Good morning, good afternoon, and good night on that strikeout. That is out number one for Sergeant Bluff here in the top of the fourth. That will bring up Tyndall. He'll be followed by Anderson. Tyndall struck out his first time up. And that right there is white. You know, we we talked about it working inside out. I mean, you want that inside corner. You get them thinking about that, and then he comes right back with two outside corner breakers that that he has to reach for to get. That was the eighth strike out of the game for Caleb. That first pitch. High and an eye opener for Tendall. One ball, no strikes. Dental squares around again, pulls back, that's in there for a strike. Gorgeous, gorgeous pitch. One ball, one strike. Right at the fist on the inside corner. You know, he's setting him up here. He's gonna come back. I'm guessing he's going out. Here's the pitch by Caleb. He tried that backdoor sweeper on the outside corner and just didn't get it to break quite enough. Outside, two balls, one strike. Here's the pitch by Caleb. Swing and a miss for strike two. Two balls, two strikes. Again, Anderson's due up next. Got Knifeel out of out on first base. He reached on a hit by pitch. Just low. Brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Well, it was it was low to the um. I don't know if it was low necessarily. Yeah, I think that was a good pitch. And you know what? That's alright. We'll just come back with come back with that same pitch. Runner goes. Swing and a miss for strike three. That's out number two, the ninth strikeout for Caleb in this game. So we've got Kneifel down at second base with two outs. That brings Anderson to the plate. He grounded out second to first his first time up. Oh, we'll take we'll take that one. Yeah. No balls one strike. To Anderson. Two outs here in the top of the fourth. Crusaders lead four to one. Slide around the outside corner. Here's the pitch by Caleb. Oh. Peyton's glove didn't move. No. Except when that heater hit it. And I'm sure you can hopefully you can hear that pop when it hits his glove. That's how hard that pitch was thrown. Here's the pitch by Caleb. High for ball one. One ball, two strikes. Yeah, infield's playing straight up. Um not I'm surprised we aren't moving over just a little. These guys have been behind Caleb. I'd move that left fielder over a little bit, maybe move the center fielder over. Here's a pitch by Caleb. That's in there for strike three. That's three strikeouts in the inning for Lefaver. That retires the side for Sergeant Bluff. Healing leads four to one as we head to the bottom of the fourth. We'll be back in 30. And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station. Mike Skaggs joined by John Tritz. Welcome back to Bishop Mueller Field. I'm Mike Skaggs joined by John Tritz. We're heading to the bottom of the fourth. Healing will send JJ Hope, Peyton Erickson, and Caleb Lefaver to the plate. They lead this one four to one. You know, one thing when Caleb pitches, and and to be honest, a lot of times when Gaswin pitches, it's the same thing. It's really easy to get complacent when you're playing because these guys I mean they work fast, they threw a lot of strikes, and they get a lot of strikeouts. Sometimes it can lull you to sleep a little bit, and that's uh and I know Wesselman with Coach Wesselman that's a concern sometimes. That pitch high for ball one to JJ. One ball, no strikes. That I have an obstructed view anyway of left field, but the shortstop is so far over, I'm not able to see him. Yeah. Here's the pitch to JJ. He pops that up. Catcher's got that. See? No. No, he doesn't. That pitch. Hit off the catcher's glove. Falls harmlessly to the ground. It's one ball, one strike, and I can't count the number of times that I have seen something like that come back and haunt a baseball team. I know if there's any Arkansas Razorback fans out there, they've seen that happen twice in Omaha, and uh it's an ugly memory every time. So I know the I know I well I I can picture one of them for sure. Cost them a national championship one time. Yep. That pitch high for ball two, two balls, one strike. Erickson and Lafavre to follow. Here's the pitch by Huffman. Go high. That pitch high for ball three, three balls, one strike. This is the guy you do not want on the base pass. I mean, he's 15 for 17 stealing. Here's the pitch. Yeah, if you think uh if you think Tommy Carroll makes pitcher nervous, wait until JJ Hope gets on. Yeah, and he leads our team in runs. I think he's got about 18, maybe 19 now. Here's the pitch. That pitch is low for ball four. JJ Hope draws the walk. That'll bring Peyton Erickson to the plate. Yeah, you're right. Exactly right. You think you think he was itchy with Tommy Carroll over there? Wait till JJ gets over there. I mean, no out here. Let's you're either gonna have a straight steal or a hit and run on this first pitch. There's no question. First pitch by Huffman. JJ goes. He's off with the pitch. Oh. That is over the right fielder's head. He misplayed it. I think JJ's still gonna score. It's gonna be tough. He's standing. Oh no. Nope. They're gonna hold him. Oh. Peyton pulled up heading into second base. You can tell that ankle is still bothering him. Erickson got into second with the gun. JJ makes it all the way to third base, so you've got runners at second and third with no outs. That'll bring Caleb LaFavor to the plate. Well the ball was clearly, I don't think he had a chance at it anyway, but he can't the way he kind of looked, it looked like maybe he did. You know, and then so I think that's what caught JJ up. JJ was three quarters of the way down and stopped thinking he was gonna catch it because he looked out there. Ball was clearly over his head, but uh great piece of hitting by Erickson. Yeah. Heaton out there to pinch run for Peyton. Yeah, I think a chance to break this thing open here. That pitch on the outside corner to Caleb for strike one, no balls one strike. Speaking of college world series, John, I've got the bracket up here. We'll talk a little bit about it. Some really new names are gonna be playing in super regionals this weekend. Here's pitch. That pitch way high for ball one, one ball, one strike. Yeah, I watched a lot of baseball over the weekend. You've got Cal Poly, who uh won that UCLA regional, the overall number one seed in the country, knocked out first weekend. They'll be taking on West Virginia at pitch fouled off by Caleb. One ball, two strikes. Yeah, the Big Ten did not have a good look uh on their home regionals, you know, UCLA, Nebraska. Yeah, when Nebraska had a tough draw. I'm I'm they did. They did. Anybody who knows me, I'm not a huge Husker fan, but when I saw that, I saw that that that was one of the tougher draws. They were not kind to them. No. That Cal Poly, West Virginia will be in Morgantown at West Virginia. That pitch to Caleb High for ball two. And then here's the interesting one, John. Little Rock out of Arkansas and Troy out of Alabama. One of those teams is gonna make to the College World Series for the first time ever, folks. And I can tell you, if you go down the College World Series, you know that ball hit sharply into the gap between center and right. That's gonna score two. He's gonna get three. Caleb is on his horse. He's going for three. Never thought I'd see Caleb LeFavor get a triple, but he's in there, folks. Standing up. Great hit by Caleb LeFavor. He drives in two more to make the score six to one. Crusaders. We're in the top bottom of the fourth, and there are no outs. That'll bring Brody Shaner to the plate. Yeah, that's a great piece of hitting, and and we've seen that several times when he turns on it. Hit that, he hits that gap in between left and center. And uh yeah, he thing rolled all the way to the about the 390 mark. That pitch by Shaner is high. Popped up out into left field. He did his job. We should be able to score here. Caleb takes off. Should be scoring easy. And they're not gonna be able to get Lefaver at the plate. Great job. That'll push another run across. That will make the score 7-0. Crusaders one out here in the top of the bottom of the fourth. And Tommy Carroll will step in. Tommy walked his first time up and singled his last time up. He scored two runs today. I got a little trivia question for you in between pitches here, Mike. I'm not gonna know the answer. You will. You will. Here's the pitch. That ball hit. Third baseman ranges over to his left, makes the play. Nice play on Tommy. Over to first for the second out. That'll bring Nathan Gaswin to the plate. What famous Healing baseball alum played it Little Rock, Arkansas. Tommy Moosel. There you go. I knew you know it. Well, that's because I tried to get him to go to UT and mom and dad want him a little closer. Yeah. Yeah. Shout out to the Moosels if they're out there listening. Knowing Joe, he's probably home ready for bed about now. He he goes to work and he goes home. We were just on that campus here back in October. We came through and went and looked at the baseball field, and the campus is not a very big school, but yeah, nice little nice baseball program. Good job by them. Here's a pitch to Nathan swinging a miss, strike two, one ball, two strikes. We got to keep that back foot planted, Nathan. Just keep that back foot planted. Kind of came out of it there. Yeah, one of those two teams, Little Rock or Troy, are gonna be the local favorite there in Omaha. Ball hit hard between first and second. Great job of hitting by Nathan. He singles out the right field. He's on first base with two outs. That will bring Aiden LeFaver to the plate. He is singled both times up. Great job with his fist, keeping his fist back, and then taking that thing inside out and uh just in between the first baseman and the second baseman. Nice piece of hitting. Aiden LeFavre steps in. We'll get to the rest of that half of that side of the bracket here in a second. Nice favor. Soft liner out to the shortstop. I thought it was gonna get over his head. Yeah, I did too. He's playing pretty deep, though. That will be the third out, but Healand's able to push three more runs across in the bottom of the fourth. They now lead seven to nothing. We will take a 30-second break. For years, Prime Bank has been paying you for your everyday banking. And now we've made our UPIC banking account even better. And now back to your Crusader sports on your Catholic radio station. We are back heading to the top of the fifth. The Crusaders lead Sergeant Bluff 7-1. Sergeant Bluff will send Crew Christensen, Braden Huffman, and Gavin Warren to the plate. I'm on communications. JJ Coins and Collectibles, Jimmy Johns, Keller Williams Real Estate Agent Tammy Bertran, and Cruz Financial Group. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healand Baseball and Catholic Radio. Joe Cruz, former Healing Baseball player, 1982 grad, and teammate of mine with Cruz Financial Group. Thank you, Joe, for being a sponsor. Caleb gets ready to deal to Christensen. Caleb's got ten strikeouts here through four innings. Just high for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Ball two, two balls, no strikes. Christians steps out to try to slow Caleb down a little bit. That pitch fouled off for strike one. Three balls, one strike. That was actually a high pitch. Here's the pitch by Caleb. Swing and a miss for strike two. Brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. No outs here in the top of the fifth. Also on that side of the bracket, John, you've got North Carolina and Southern Cal, and it's been a long time since Southern Cal. That's strike three. Beautiful pitch. That'll be the 11th strikeout for Caleb Lefaver. Christensen has retired. That'll bring Micah Frankel to the plate. He struck out his first time up. If I'm not mistaken, I think Southern Cal has the most national championships in baseball. They did. But if if you're a fan of college baseball, you know a lot of those were done in the early years. Absolutely. Back in the they had a stretch in the 70s. They were they were kind of the UCLA of college baseball there for a while. Yeah, that that pitch, no balls, one strike. That pitch high for ball one, one ball, one strike. North Carolina's become a mainstay in in Omaha the last 15-20 years. And I know that my daughter Alicia, huge catch, huge Roy Williams fan, when North Carolina would come, uh she would say, Dad, you need to find where he is and let me know so I can go over and say hi. And Coach Williams was always very gracious. Between innings, he would take pictures, shake hands, sign autographs. But when it was time to play baseball, he politely said, wait till the wait till this inning's over, and then he would come back and uh basically go through the same thing. Yeah, we got uh full count here now at the first uh couple pitches. Yeah, he had started off the ball and then a couple strikes on the outside corner and and just a little high slider there. Nice pitch. That's in there for strike three. Another strikeout by Caleb. That brings the total to 12, and that will bring Gavin Warren to the plate. You know, Peyton just uh really working that that corner inside out. Just he's done a really good job tonight of setting up the pitch, setting up the batter, getting them thinking inside, inside, and then he sneaks that thing on the outside corner. Here's the first pitch on that outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike. Yeah. He just, I mean, he's I just yeah, you're right, he's just not comfortable. Fooled him on that one. Swing and a miss for strike two, no balls, two strikes. I'm talking about Peyton here with that right ankle, just a little. You can tell there's a little discomfort in there when he when he gets down on the he goes down on one knee, and then sometimes I think that cleat catches gets up and stretches it out. Here's the pitch. Just outside for ball one, one ball, two strikes. Yeah, he's gonna see him come on the inside corner on here. Let's see where he goes. There he goes. Caleb with the delivery. Got him on the outside corner. That's three strikeouts in the inning. That will bring the count to 13. We head to the bottom of the fifth. Crusaders 7. Sergeant Bluff 1. We'll be back in 30. And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station. So we head to the bottom of the fifth here. Crusaders 7, Sergeant Bluff 1. Crusaders will send Chase Beck, Dylan Knapp, and JJ Hope to the plate. You know, I I love what Coach Wesselman does with his lineup with uh with Knapp and uh Hope. I mean, and you see that a lot of your good teams do that. You get your two basically, you're probably your two fastest guys, one at the bottom of the order, one at the top of the order. And that's a lot of times that's done on purpose. You know, you got speed at the bottom, speed at the top. Huffman still on the mound for Sergeant Bluff. First pitch fouled off by Beck for strike one, no balls, one strike. Yeah, two nice hits up the middle by Beck. You know, right after I said I'd like to see him come out of it and get a couple hits, and boom. There's a pitch by Huffman. Pitch high for ball one, one ball, one strike. You and I we you and I know what he can do at second base, Mike. Done a great job there. Delivery. That bounces in there for ball two, two balls, one strike. And a 7-1 lead for the Crusaders here in the in the bottom of the fifth. Here's the pitch. On that outside corner for strike two. Two balls, two strikes. That's a good pitch. Just caught the black on the outside. Huffman deals. Swing and a miss. Got him on that one. That's a strikeout. That's the first out for the Crusaders here. That was a good pitch by Huffman. He he got him guessing there and hit him twice with fastballs on the outside corner and then comes with that that looper curve ball and just caught him. He just wasn't looking for it. He'll get it next time. Looks like we might have a pitching change here. Sergeant Bluff coach is heading out. If that's the case, we will be back in two minutes. We are back on the mound for the Sergeant Bluff Warriors is number 10, Jack Zelane. He's a senior, has a record of one one and oh. Teams are batting 111 against him. And they have an E he has an ERA of 2.21. Dylan Knapp steps in. The count is one ball, one strike. Jack has struck out two on the season. You know, I Huffman did a nice job. He did exactly what their coach needed him to do. I mean, he he threw strikes. Um really we have the big inning after the guy drops the ball in the outfield, a couple misplayed. You know, I mean, yeah, he gave up seven runs, but really it was about a three to four run outing for the you know for the young man. Yeah, Dylan fouls that off. Two balls, two strikes. Yeah, his defense let him down. Uh he he pitched pitched a good game, had three strikeouts against Crusaders, but uh the air out in right field and had a couple that Healan hit where they couldn't get to it. Nice rip. Dylan drives that ball into the gap. It's gonna drop left fielder unable to make a clean play on it. Dillon is on with the single, and that will bring JJ Hope to the plate. Yeah, good piece of hitting by Dylan. Uh he really stayed back on that curve ball and and just roped it right in between center and left. And here we go. We were just talking about it, Mike. Now you got the situation, you got your two fastest guys, one at the plate, one at first base. So many things we can do with this. Dylan takes off on the first pitch. Catcher unable to field it cleanly. It was a strike. Dylan in there safely. He is on second base with one out. And that's obviously option A is a straight steal. But uh so now here, I mean let's say it for what it is. I mean, I I wouldn't be surprised to see him take off for third. Yeah, I mean and yeah. Here's the pitch. In there for ball one, one ball, one strike. That's a looper and a half. Well, that's a good one. Yes, it is. Hangs up there. Yeah. Selaney, a long look in. Dylan's got a nice leadoff over there. There he goes. Deals to the plate. Good. JJ just gets a piece of that one ball, two strikes. JJ grounded out short to first. He's hit by a pitch and walked. He scored a run tonight. Yeah, Dylan really got him got him thinking. He's got a nice lead. Here's the pitch. Dylan goes to late steel. That ball hit sharply down the first baseline. JJ heading for second. Knapp's score. That will make the score eight to one. That's about as good of inside out hitting as you're gonna see, Mike. That ball was almost in the catcher's mitt when he when he swung. And he he held back, held back, took that thing right down the right field line. Just beautiful. Hands coming out before the barrel. Just beautiful hitting. Yeah, that was lined hard over the first baseman's head. Got JJ Hope at second, one out. Crusaders have put a run across to make it eight to one here in the bottom of the fifth. Erickson steps in. Yeah, chance to really throw this thing open here. Here's the pitch to Peyton. Inside for ball one, one ball, no strikes. That's where he went. Selaney not nearly as fast with his pitching process as Caleb or even Hoffman. Here's the pitch. That pitch is low for ball three, three balls, no strikes. You know, there's a right way and a wrong way to frame the ball if you're a catcher. Um you ever watch Peyton when I when he frames that glove just moves in a circle so that no matter where you catch it, the gloves on the corner. Then you see some of these guys will will come out and they'll catch it, and then they'll try to bring it in, like this young man here. Pitch on the outside corner for strike one. Three balls, one strike. You get uh really good umpire, and he'll say something to you about that. You know, he'll he'll he'll put up with that for about one or two times, and he'll say, you know, listen, you make me look bad, you try to make me look bad, and you're not gonna get the next pitch. Yeah, absolutely. Here's the pitch. Yeah, that sales in there, that'll be a walk. Runners at first and second with one out. And the last super regional that starts this Friday is between Ole Miss and Auburn. Got an SEC flavor to that one. Ole Miss looked good. Auburn looked good. I watched both those guys over the weekend. I mean, some there's there's just some really good baseball here. Center field is finally taking a few steps back. I was wondering what he was doing. He was really shallow, and he's moved way over toward right field. They're giving him the line, they are giving him left field, baby. They're all moved over. Yeah. Yeah, if he if he's able to hit this in the air out to center field, he's gonna run forever. That first pitch in there, Caleb for strike one, no balls, one strike. Yeah, they really got the shift on only in the outfield though, now the infield staying normal, which is kind of odd. Heaton out there pinch running for Erickson. Here's the pitch. Way outside for ball one, one ball, one strike. Now we've seen we've seen uh Caleb take that ball to left field, so he's gotta see it, I'm I'm sure. So I'm sure if he gets something again on the outside corner, he's gonna he's gonna go with it. So Laney checks runner at second. Here's the pitch. Way outside for ball two, two balls, one strike. And that's what I was just talking about there, where he you know caught it and brought that brings his glove in. Long look, here's a pitch. Low and outside for ball three, three balls, one strike. Shayner, do up next. Well, we get let's get Caleb on. Maybe Shaner can end the game. Selaney, a long look in at LeFavor, looks back at second, and the pitch. Oh, he wanted to turn on that. Caleb fouls that off, brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Yeah, Caleb was licking his chops on that. We've seen him do that that low golf swing and send it a long way. Good lead by Hope and Heaton out there on first and second. Selaney deals. Caleb tried to go to left field with that one, fouls it off. Yeah. Count remains full. One out. Yeah, bottom of the fifth. He had his hands ahead ahead of the barrel there. He was going for left field. Crusaders lead Sergeant Bluff, 8-1. Looking to add more. Here's the pitch. Caleb hit that out to he didn't even have to move. Left fielder was shifted way over, and Caleb hit it right at him for out number two. That will bring up Shaner. Who can still end it with one swing of the back? Yeah, he still could end it. And with the wind blowing right to left and a little bit out, he gets that ball up in the air today, it's gonna go a long way. Floats in there for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Yeah, it's uh nice piece of hitting by Lefavre and and and you know, smart move on Coach Nelson's part to do the shift. And now they've got the center fielder shifted over toward left field. So yeah, this is this is how I'd play him. I'd I'd play, I'd put the shift on him. He hits everything to left. Shayner steps out. You mean one thing about Coach Nelson, I mean, he's a baseball guy, he's done his homework. He he's probably scouted, got a scout on these guys, and and if you're scouting Shaner, he's a pull hitter. So it's actually a smart move how he's got his got his uh infield and outfield set up. Salini long long look back at second. Shahner hits that hard to the shortstop. He feels it. Trouble. Throw over to first. First baseman's able to make the scoop for the third out. Healing adds one here in the bottom of the fifth. We'll go to the sixth. Healing leads eight to one. We'll be back in 30 seconds. Soho Kitchen and Bar is located at 1024 Fourth Street in Sioux City. Well, everybody, Caleb LeFavor's Day on the Mound is done. He leads this game with a lead of eight to one. He did strike out 13 batters. Gave up just the one run. Mason Moravic will step on the mound. He has a record of 1-0. Teams are batting 250 against him. He's given up eight hits, three runs, one earned run, eight walks, and he struck out nine. He has an ERA of 1.11. And we've been impressed with him the times that we've seen him on the mound. He's come in with a lot of confidence and done a great job. Yeah, Moravic is he's just solid. I mean, he he comes in, he's confident, he he throws strikes, he he's not gonna overpower you, Mike. He comes from the left side, he's not gonna overpower you, but what he does do is he hits the spots. You know, Peyton sets up inside, outside, and he hits spots, and and yeah, sometimes he's gonna miss that spot, and they might, yeah, and they'll get a hit here and there. And we've seen him give up a couple hits and get guys on base and only to be able to work himself out of it. Yeah, he walked himself into a jam the first time out, was able to get out of it. Brady Wegger steps in, he's flown out to right field, flown out to center field his two times up, and first pitch by Mason. Yeah. In there for strike one, no balls, one strike. Murak working quickly as well. Here's the pitch. Outside for ball one, one ball, one strike. Yeah, tried to get that thing to sweep on the back side and and uh just didn't break. Kind of stayed where it was. Mason Deals. That ball fouled back into the net for strike two, one ball, two strikes. Peyton working that outside corner. Pitch that ball hit hard to hope. It's short. He fields it, throws over to Aiden Lefaver at first base for the first out. Six to three for the first out. We are in the top of the sixth. Crusaders lead this one eight to one. Gavin Merrill will step in. He reached on an error and struck out his two times up. Yeah, and Mason doing what Mason does best. You know, gets a ground ball, lets his fielders do work. That pitch fouled into the net. Strike one. Deals. Pitch way outside for ball one. One ball, one strike. That's a good waist pitch. I don't mind that. Kind of give him just a little taster up there on the outside corner, a little high. See if he'd see if he'd uh you know go for it, but he didn't held back. That pitch lined back up the middle for a single, fielded by Dylan Knapp out in center field. Merrill. Yeah, good piece of hitting by Merrill. I think that's Merrill on first with one out. That'll bring Knife up, and that is the first hit for Sergeant Bluff. So I just heard Jay Wright saying that over the speaker, and I was looking over to make sure he was right, and he is. He's not right very often, but he was that time. That pitch high for ball one. Yeah, a little high outside. Kneifel struck out and was hit by a pitch his two times up. Yeah, Knife likes to strike toward the plate. If I had Mason come back on the inside here. That pitch on the outside corner for strike one. One ball, one strike. He went opposite of what I was thinking, but that's okay. I've been shook off by many a pitcher's Mike. That pitch. Nice one. Another nice pitch outside corner. One ball, two strikes on that outside corner. Well, he's really set up outside. Nice pitch. Oh. Beck makes a nice play out there at second base to keep it from getting out into right field. Boy, he did. He made it now. That's what you call a cue ball hit, Mike. That thing hit the end of his bat and looked like a little, it just had a spin and just dribbled past the first baseman. You don't see that very often. Don't want to take anything away from Aiden out there. He made a diving attempt too, just wasn't able to reach it. But Chase was able to keep that ball from getting any farther and hold the runner at second. We've got runners at first and second with one out for Sergeant Bluff, and Hayes steps in. There we go, Mason. Manufacture a ground ball. We got uh double play and you know at any base. Here's that first pitch. Nice fouled off at the plate for strike one. No balls, one strike. I mean, he really did his job on the last batter, got him to ground out. I mean, just kind of one of those weird, weird hits. I mean, that that and that's baseball. I mean, sometimes you barely get a hold of it, and it looks like a frozen rope single in the book. Nice pitch. Pitch fouled off at the plate for strike two. Think it might have got a piece of Peyton's exposed hand there. I think Mason took a little bit off of that. I think that was uh looked like a changeup to me. Um batter was way ahead of it. Pitch fouled off. Boy, he's worked him inside all three or outside all three pitches here. And oh, he got him 0-2, you know. Maybe a little waist pitch up high on the inside corner, a little bit high, see if he'll chase it. Keeps a count, no balls, two strikes. Here's the pitch. That's where he went, exactly where he went with the pitch. Pitch fouled off down the third baseline. Job by Hayes. Again, we're in the top of the six. Crusaders lead eight to one. Sergeant Bluff has two runners on with one out. Got a force at any base. And JJ's working him over there at short. He is, he's not gonna let him get too far. Swinging a miss for strike three. There you go. That'll be the second out of the inning. That'll be the 14th strikeout for Crusader pitching tonight. And that will bring Kyler Tyndall to the plate. Steps in from the left side. First pitch. In there for strike one. No balls, one strike. What a pretty pitch, Mike. Thing started up by his head and just broke. Massive break right at the end on the outside corner. Arotic long look in. He comes set. And there's the pitch. Just got a piece of that one. Fouled off for strike two. No balls, two strikes. You know, that thing is wicked to left-handed batters. I mean, that thing breaks like massive to the outside corner. Mason comes set and deals to the plate. There we go. That ball popped out to Carroll in the left field. Two-handed. Settles under with the nice two-handed catch. Think they're listening to us, Mike. And that will retire the side. No runs for Sergeant Bluff in the top of the six. We'll go to the bottom of the six. Crusaders lead eight to one. We'll be back in 30. And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station. I'll run down while Tim's up here. And then after Tim's done, I'll just be up here in case we're done, and then I'll I'll just do whatever. Okay, talk about the game, upcoming game, etc. Until you get back up here. Perfect. Oh shoot. Got Tommy. Excuse me, Tommy Carroll steps in to lead off the sixth inning. Center fielder makes a jumping catch out there. And that will be out number one. Got a new hitter, 25. That's looks like is that Harpin all? No, no, no, that's Gaswin. I'm sorry. That's Nathan. Yep. Nathan reached on an error, flew out to the right fielder, and singled his last time up. Yeah, he did a really good piece of hitting inside out out down to the right right field. First pitch to Nathan was a ball. Zelane looks in and deals. That pitch outside for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. He's not given that uh kind of that low knee pitch, but he hasn't been given it all game. He's been consistent. So, I mean he's done a great job to some. And here's the pitch. It's inside to Nathan for ball three. Three balls, no strikes. We're in the bottom of the six. Crusaders lead Sergeant Bluff, eight to one. Here's the pitch. On that outside corner for strike one. Three balls, one strike. Yeah, just a little bit above the knees there. Outside corner. Good spot, good location. And the pitch. Boy. Nathan hits that one hard. Oh, folks, that was about that took a hop about two feet from the fence and bounced and was foul. He turned on that one and got a hold of it. Boy, I thought he had enough to get it out, but just uh right right to the fence. Yeah, he and and I don't think he got got that right on the meat of the barrel, so gas one step back in. The count is full. There's a nice piece of hitting. Hits that hard over the second baseman's head. He is wisely gonna stop at first for a single. Yeah, much much more patient by Nathan the last two at bats on with an 0-2 count. Both actually he had two strikes on him on the last at bat, too. He took that thing to right field. This one here, right center. Uh nice piece of hitting by Nathan. Yeah, it's the got Arod stepping in. Yeah. Uh pinch hitting for Aiden Lefavre. Yeah, this is the bottom of the batting order that we talked about. That's starting to come alive. Nice. Rodriguez hits that hard. One thing we know with Alex is uh Alex can turn on it. We've seen it. Um he's not afraid, he's very aggressive at the plate. Gas went good lead over at first. Zelaney deals to Rodriguez. That bounces in there. One ball, one strike. Oh. Pitch was inside for a strike, one ball, one strike. Yeah, it's a great, great pitch on the inside corner. He would have really, I mean, if he swings that, I mean that that's hitting him in right on the fist. It was good good location by the pitcher. Celini deals to the plate. Rodriguez hits that. That's trouble. Between short and third, they're not able to get to it. Hit them where they're not, right? Absolutely. Shortstop was playing more over towards second base. And not so sure why. And um, but then again, they haven't probably seen Alex Bat. So they might not have known that he's more of a pull hitter. So yeah, he was way over. Yeah, absolutely. We've got Rodriguez at first, Gas went at second. Chase Beck steps in. He has struck out, popped out to the shortstop, and singled his last time up, and he did score a run. Eight-to-one Crusaders. We're in the bottom of the sixth. First pitch. Outside corner to Chase Beck for strike one. No balls, one strike. Yeah, not a bad pitch to lay off of. I know we got called a strike, but that was a tough one. That was out there a little ways. Selaney looks back at Gaswin at second. Here's a pitch. High for ball one, one ball, one strike. Much more comfortable by Chase at the plate today. Seleney looks back at the runner at second. Comes to the plate. Pitch high for ball two. Two balls, one strike. Rodriguez at first, Gaswin at second, one out. Here's the pitch. Chase fouls that off out of play. Try taking that to right field. Brings the count. Two balls, two strikes. Dylan Knapp do up next. Wait till right to the last second to take that cut. Kind of inside out, tried to take it to right, and just missed it. Here's the pitch to chase. Pops that down the first baseline. First baseman's able to get over. Make the play. For out number two. That will bring Dylan Knapp to the plate. He has scored a run. Runners at first and second, two outs. Oh heat and hitting. Heaton pinch hitting for Dylan. Yep. This is heat and hitting, yep. Figure, well, son, if you're gonna run, you're gonna do it on your own. You're gonna get a hit. Or a walk, and we're not gonna pinch run you. First pitch in there for a ball, one ball, no strike. That's a good chance, good opportunity to get the young eighth grader in here, get him to get him some swings. Here's the pitch by Zelaney. In there for a strike, one ball, one strike. Paint in the corner. Here's the pitch. Heaton fouls that back. Brings count one ball, two strikes. Yeah, good turn. Got those wrists moving, got him got him through. Pass the barrel. Nice turn when he came through. Good cut by the young eighth grader. Selane who looks at Gaswin at second. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. That's that point. That's that epis pitch. We go to the top of the seventh. Crusaders lead eight to one. We'll keep it here. And Sergeant Bluff will send seven, eight, and nine hitters. Gavin Anderson, Crew Christensen, and Micah Frankel to the plate in the top of the seventh. Let's give me a chance to get some more of our sponsors in, Mike. Lawler Fixtures, Liberty National Bank, Lightform, Modern Day Parish, McClintock Insurance, Tim McClintock, Meyer Brothers Funeral Home, Mills Shellhammer Pitts, Missouri Valley Land and Cattle, Mollett Industrial Group, My Jeweler, Myra Favors State Farm Agency, Neil Pfeiffer, KOC Insurance Agent, Nagrib Inspection, People's Bank of Sioux City, Prime Bank, Queen of Peace, Trinity Heights, R. E. Scott, Ruley Family Chiropractic, Shram Electric, and Security National Bank. Thank you for sponsoring Healing Baseball and Catholic Radio. We head here to the top of the seventh Crusaders lead eight to one. Ask everybody to keep the Eric Porsche family as Dad Randy in your prayers. Dealing with a couple of tough life situations, and I know that they would appreciate an extra prayer or two for everybody out there. Absolutely. Robbic back at back out there on the mound here in the top of the seventh. Came in and uh got a strikeout. Didn't give up any runs there in the top of the sixth. Did exactly what we said when he when he first stepped on the mound, Mike. He sometimes will get himself uh gives up a couple hits, a couple walks, whatever, and and uh does a really good job of working him way his way out of it. Yeah, he does a good job. And it's helpful that he's got Peyton behind the plate to no question. Help keep him grounded, humble, and focused. No question. We got four warriors will be saying out of here. Yeah, I you know, I I see him hooking that thing up into their ear where they can call the pitch, and I just I don't know, man. I think that would just drive me bananas, but these kids probably grow up and they're used to it. First pitch by Mason. Foul off down the first baseline out of play. He's gonna come back with that same pitch. You gotta chase in the first one, you gotta chase that second one. Gavin Anderson steps out. No balls one strike. Nice pitch fouled off down the first baseline again, out of play. Yeah, I got him chasing the first one outside a little bit on the outside corner, and then he comes back with a high inside pitch to get him. Now you now you got him thinking, okay, uh I've seen I've seen outside, I've seen inside. What's he gonna come back with? Wind up by Mason in the pitch. Hit out to Dillon center field, takes a few steps over, settles under it, and makes the catch for the first out. One out, top of the seventh. That will bring Crew Christensen to the plate. He has struck out both times up. Yeah, let's get two more outs here. Yeah, we were cruising along pretty quickly. Things have kind of slowed down here a little bit. That's a tad, but we're still right about on time, about quarter to seven to six. First pitch to Christensen bounces in there for ball one. No balls one strike. Well, he's been calling that all night. That just kind of looped. Maybe you know it broke. It broke, and where he caught it was maybe in the strike zone, but it might have come over a little bit high. Here's the pitch. Nice pitch. That ball he doesn't see it. Popped out the back at second base. Lost it for a second in the sun, was able to settle under it for out number two. That will bring Micah Frankel to the plate. He's the last hope for the Warriors here in game one. Good piece of pitching by uh Moravic there. Get him to fly out. Easy can of corn. First pitch by Mason in there for a strike. Again, between games, we'll do a quick recap, take a couple minute break, and we are due to have Tim Swedeen, the executive director of Catholic Radio, and also Andy Osborne. That ball hit out to Carroll. It's over his head. Gets all the way to the fence. Frankl rumbles into second base there for a double. Boy, he just missed that. Matter of fact, that might have might have had that almost in his glove, and it just just on just just on the outreach of him. Yep, that'll be just the third hit of the game for Sergeant Bluff. Again, LaFavor left after five innings, hadn't given up a hit. And Mason came in. That's really the first hard-hit ball that Sergeant Bluff has had against Mason. He's been able to keep everything nice and easy for his defense. Warren steps in. He walked, scored a run, scored the only run for Sergeant Bluff. Struck out, and it struck out twice. That first pitch fouled off for strike one. No balls, one strike. Well, it wouldn't be uh like uh Mason to not have to work from the stretch and uh get out of an inning, so here we go. Yeah, I think he does it on purpose. I think he looks likes coming from the stretch. Looks back at the runner. Nice pitch. Pitch just low for ball one, one ball, one strike. Good location. Good location. You know, you're heading the count. Here's the pitch. That ball hit to Aiden over at first base. Flips it to Mason for the third out. Good job. That kid's getting down the he got down the line quick. Good job by Mason covering the good. There we go, folks. That is a final in game one. Healing wins this one eight to one. John uh as he's done all year long. Caleb came in and made it interesting early and a little wild with some of his pitches, but settled down obviously, got 10 strikeouts, didn't give up any hits. In the lower part of the batting order, did a great job hitting the ball. Yeah, it's interesting. It's you know, it's interesting to watch his starts. We've seen all three of them. Uh and that first couple two, three batters, it's almost I don't know if if it if he's not loose or not, but I I'm assuming he, I mean, nobody probably knows how to warm up better than Caleb. And and but he just has a little trouble finding that zone right away. But once he does, oh my gosh, I mean, he's in absolutely incredible. I mean, throws with with high velocity, obviously, in the 90s, got that sweeper, and and he had it going tonight, no question. And then, of course, the job that Mason Moravic does coming in, as he has for all three of his starts, he's come in and and just done a bang up job getting getting in and out. Um gives up a couple walks, gives up a couple hits, but nothing damaging, and and finds a way to work out of it. Yeah, absolutely. Uh we gotta we gotta ask Mason that question. Do you do you do it on purpose so you can pitch from the stretch? Is that where you're more comfortable? Or uh yeah, is it just one of those things? But again, I mean he did an admirable job, admirable job coming in. He has every time he's been out there, and looking forward to watching him grow as the season goes on. Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna text in Andy Osborne here right now as we speak to make sure he's he remembers to come up. We're hoping to get Andy up here for 10 to 15 minutes. Um Yeah, we we think it'll be a 30-minute break, folks, uh, between games. We'll have to see. So we're gonna send it back to Grace in the studio for three minutes, and we will be back with hopefully a couple of interviews between games and and we'll get ready for game two. I have the good fortune of being joined by retired and former Healing baseball coach, Andy Osborne. Coach, how are you? Thanks for having me. Glad we could get you up here. That was uh you were one of the ones that we definitely had on the list to try to get up here and and find out what's been going on with you and you know get your your thoughts on the Healing program so far. And let's start out with other than the obvious, how is life different that now you're not here 60 hours a week coaching baseball? Well, it's it's uh certainly different. Our I think our you know our whole family, our lives have changed a lot in the last six months, but uh it's uh it's amazing what gets neglected at your house around you know when your life when this is your life when you're focusing on on all your energy out the ballpark. And so it's but it's good, it's good. I think uh you should probably interview my wife and find out if she's ready for me to go back to the ballpark or not. But uh no, we're we're doing good. Well good, and I know I know what you mean about you know, when you're busy with stuff like this, things get neglected. I mean, we did seven games in five days last week. I was listening, yeah. There was a lot of stuff that got neglected at my house. How'd your yard look, Mike? Uh it I finally got to it yesterday and and had to use uh Thatcher and everything else to try to rake up all the grass. But just get a herd of goats and turn them loose. Absolutely. The the rain, you know, everybody says we need rain, we need rain. Well, I we didn't need rain on my yard, that's for sure. But uh it turned out uh turned out nice. So I know you said that officially this is your first time back to see the team. Last week we were up at north and uh you kind of snuck over and stood up on the hill. And what are some options? Observations you had of of that uh that night. Well, I it's just I mean, it's fun to see these young kids playing at such a high level, right? They uh I and I hadn't really thought about it that much, but I I was looking at their starting lineup, and basically you've got Peyton Erickson and JJ Hope are your only returning starters from last year's state semifinal team. You know, Caleb Lefavre obviously in gas, you got those guys that played, but everybody else on the on the field is kind of first-time playing kids. And so, you know, I I'm pretty constant communication with Jacob. He's asking me stuff and trying to, you know, find out where the light switches are and where you know where the rakes are, that kind of stuff. But um I just I keep telling them they're they're they've played so many tight games, but you're they're finding ways to win those tight games, and that's really gonna pay off later in the year, right? When they when they get into the playoff run and and you've been in those pressure situations, but so many of these kids, you know, I I kind of highlight JJ Hope, the things he's doing. You know, last year we had him, that was his first year coming back and and playing second base. He was just trying to get the lay of the land, right? Playing baseball at this level. And now you're finally getting to see what he can do when he's playing with confidence and and just letting his athleticism take over. So it's just, I mean, I I'm really happy for all these guys and and Coach Welselman and Coach Taylor. You know, those guys are are doing such a good job with this young group, keeping them in ball games and finding a way to win games. That's uh, like I said, that's gonna really pay off down the road. Yeah, it will. And that you you mentioned the the youth and and all the new faces. That was you know one of the things that you know I talked with Jeff Blander about a lot. I said, Who's gonna fill what holes? Yeah. You know, who's gonna do this, who's gonna do that? And uh he said, Well, I think it'll be this, and I think it'll be that. You'll, you know, you're gonna early season you're gonna see some switching around. And then of course John and I spent a lot of time uh the first couple games. Uh that was the main thing we talked about was you know who's gonna step in at at third base? Uh Aiden's an eighth grader. How's he gonna do over at first? What kind of what kind of growing pains is he gonna go through? And you know, Nathan, he's rumbling is the best way to describe it, a round out there in right field. Uh-huh. Uh he doesn't got God bless him, man. He he makes the ground shake when he runs. But I mean, we knew when JJ slid over to short uh that he was he was gonna do great. He's done a good job, and you know, Dylan, not too much, is gonna get past him out in center field. And Peyton, uh he is uh as solid, if not more solid, than he was last year for you guys in that semifinal run. Yeah, I I think that that's that's really key. You have a good veteran leader behind the plate. You know, you want to be strong up the middle, that's kind of a baseball thing. And with with Peyton, JJ, and then Dylan in center, which you know, Dylan has kind of been on a trajectory to get to this point. You know, we sprinkled him in a little bit last year as an eighth grader. He was with us just kind of learning. But that that's uh a really good foundation up the middle. And and you know with Caleb and Gas, those two guys are gonna keep you in every game. You're gonna have an opportunity to win every game that are on the mound. So I I think with a young squad, you're gonna you're gonna take your lumps once in a while. The West Line MOC thing, you know, that's that's part of the deal sometimes with young guys. But again, I think for Jacob to be able to, you know, get his feet wet as a first-time head coach and to keep this program going the direction he wants it to go, it's important that these young guys are playing, they're they're getting a lot of baseball in and learning how to play the game at a really high level. Yeah, and and Friday, you know, that was game six and seven of the week, and it did give some younger kids an opportunity to get in. Uh, we knew by the time they got to Friday night, virtually every arm they had was spent. And you know, we saw some kids pitch that they didn't have the success that they wanted, but uh it's the experience that you talked about and I talked about. John was at soccer, but uh it may not look good now, but come that first playoff game, you may need one of those kids to step in there. And and you know, case in point, I know he he's uh he's done a great job coming in. I mean, Mason Morovic two weeks ago when he came in for uh for Caleb that first game. I mean, I was John and I were just blown away at his confidence, his ability to work the ball around the plate. Yeah, he you know, three straight balls to the first guy, walked a couple guys, got himself in a in a spot, but he worked his way out of it, uh, believed in himself. And you know, for a he's not a big kid, no, but he's he's got a lot of confidence. He's got a huge heart, too. That's one thing. He he's kind of the prime example of a kid if you could could cookie cut what you wanted Healing baseball players to look like, maybe not in stature or physicality, but he he came all the way through, played freshman baseball, and then played JV with Coach Jeff and Doc Barr and those guys. And then when he's a junior, then he's contributing and he's ready to contribute. You know, it's it's kind of sad, it's unfair for Aiden Lefaver. He's gonna he's learning trial by fire, but you know, he's a talented kid, so he's earned that right to to get this opportunity, and he's doing great for an eighth grader, but that's not uh necessarily the design that you want. You'd rather him play a couple years of lower level baseball before they have to get out here and compete. But Mason's uh he's such a tough kid, and and he's got that drive. He wants to be good, and and I think that's what what will help him in the long run. Yeah, and that'll pay off. And real quick, back to Dylan. Uh he's doing so well. I can't call him Dilly anymore. I gotta start calling him Dylan. He's he's grown up. Hey, whenever I whenever I think of Dylan, I think of standing over here in the third base coach's box and watching him having to chase him out of the bullpen because we're trying to warm pitchers up and he's down there throwing with his buddies at you know at whatever six years of age. Yeah, you gotta get out of there. Let us get so you know what I mean? And now it's now he's out here running around just like he was when he was little, you know. That's really fun. It it it is it is great to see, and I know that uh if I don't if I don't get this in, I'm gonna get yelled at by my daughter Mary Kate. But um some of the coaches that you know you kind of took after or uh used some of their philosophy as you were coaching. Yeah, uh name a couple of them. Oh boy. Well, um I you know the the first one that kind of springs to mind. Obviously, my dad, you know, that was a big part of of growing up as a baseball player, is always having your dad around. Um Jim Wesselman, Jacob's dad, was my high school coach for a couple years. Okay. And I and I also had the the privilege of playing alongside of him when I was in college playing for the Spencer Cardinals and just how he would carry himself at a ballpark, not only as a player, but as a coach. It's just you learn so much just maybe sometimes by watching, you know, and and I think I I've been so blessed to to see, you know, a guy like uh Tom Betts, Roger Jansen, some of those guys, as I grew as a coach at Healing, to to just kind of see this is how you're supposed to act when you're a Healing coach, and this is how you handle yourself at the ballpark. So I mean, I I could give you 15 names of people that have influenced me along the way, right? Because you you just like as a player, you learn from other coaches. And I I probably watch more of that now than I do the actual game. I'm kind of watching, okay, what's the strategy? Why are they doing what they do, you know? And so it's uh that that was kind of where I I learned how I wanted my program to look, you know. And as far as what again, Mary K's gonna kill me if I don't get his name in there. What can what did you learn from Augie Garrito? How to swear. Absolutely. It's Catholic radio station, so keep that. Yeah, I'm not gonna repeat it. You just just YouTube Augie Garrito and you're gonna find it pretty quick. But no, I mean Augie, come on. He's on the Mount Rushmore of college baseball coaches, right? And probably baseball coaches in general. You know, he just for a guy like that that can win no matter where he's at, you know, he did it at Cal State Fullerton, then he goes to Texas, and it's like, man, that's you're blessed with talent, which obviously coaching at Healing, I was blessed with more talent than maybe anybody. But you you have to be able to do something with that talent, and Augie, boy, he really he could he could get it done. Yeah, if you're if you're watching any of his videos, if you can just block out the expletives, uh-huh, he's got really good life lessons in there. And no doubt. Uh you know, it's it's one of those every once in a while I've just got to pull one up and I've got to laugh and smile and everything else. Well, we'll end with this. I know it didn't end the way you want it to last year, but you had the good fortune of being able to coach in a state tournament in Sioux City. Yeah. I mean unforgettable. Unforgettable. I mean, that's it was about as close as you could get to a storybook ending. You know what I mean? We fell a game short, we didn't get the ring, but to be able to do that, I I still get goosebumps thinking about that crowd. Yeah. Both the first night against Carlisle and then you know, second time against Pella. It was just just incredible. And and you know, it was it was exactly ended exactly the way it was supposed to. And I can live with that, you know, and and it was fun. The kids, the kids played their tails off, and uh, you know, again, I I think to be able to do that in your hometown, that's pretty special. Yeah, it was it was fun. It was uh good to have Sergeant Bluff, uh Bishop Healan and East in there. Uh as one that was on the state tournament committee, it would have been nice to get Sergeant Bluff for East to win that first game, so we could have set an all-time attendance record for 3A. But uh, you know, it was it was great, great atmosphere, a lot of great compliments from everybody that was in town, and and just seeing, you know, your kids, how hard they played and how hard they wanted that. I know there was I mean there was lightning and thunder all over the place when that semifinal game was over. And people stood around outside. Um I was told several times you need to leave, you're gonna get struck by lightning. It's like nobody else is leaving. Yeah, nobody wanted to leave. No, nobody wanted it in, nobody wanted it to uh be over. And uh great representation again. You you represented Healing well over the years, and you know, we're glad to call you an ex-coach and a and a friend, and you know, you're welcome in the in the booth anytime with us and and look forward to seeing you again down the road. Well, I I appreciate that, and and boy, I I know I speak for everybody. I appreciate what you guys do, I appreciate what Catholic Radio does for us. I know my mom's listening right now. I that's one thing I always talk to the kids about was how how important this is to the entire healing community, not just in Sioux City, but Don Wangert, he used to text me all the time. He'd be listening in Des Moines. You know, there's there's crusaders all over the country that that are tuned into what you guys are doing, and it's you guys do a great job. I know it's not easy and it's a big commitment, but uh we all love it, and I'm tuned in, and Catholic Radio, bless you guys for doing that for us. It's really important. Okay, last quick question. Does mom normally listen, or is she listening because she knew you were gonna be in? She listens, she she listened to every game that I was coaching that we had on the air, and and she hasn't missed a healing football game or or basketball, or but she's still plugged in. So she's she'll get a shout-out every game. Yep, Diane Osborne up there and out in the country just north of Fawstoria. She's she's locked in. Well, we enjoy having uh her listening and everyone else that listens. And if you've got friends that don't know about it, have them download the KFHC app and they get some great programming on there. And uh if they're really bored at the end of the day on a Tuesday or Thursday, they can turn it on and listen to John and I. But again, coach, I appreciate you coming up and I appreciate John for arranging this. It was great, and it's really good to see you. Anytime. Thanks for coming in. Thanks. Go Crusaders. Thank you, my pleasure. You ready? All right, we've got Tim Sadin stepping in. He is the executive director of KFHC, and he's gonna talk a little bit about some of the great things that that Catholic Radio has to offer and and some of the great things that are going on at KFH. You know what? I think Caleb Lefav was as dialed in as I remember him being. I mean, he was popping that mitt, and it was strike after strike after strike. I think he had what, 13 strikeouts? He had he had 10 himself, uh Mason had three, but uh Caleb had a no-hitter uh when he left. So he he was really on top of it. He he did a fantastic job. You know, Sioux Land Catholic Radio is obviously about being the voice of Bishop Healing Sports. Very, very important to us to have that partnership with Bishop Healing. However, as I go around town and talk about the station, there are a lot of questions that come up. Like, what is our mission? Daily faith engagement, give listeners a greater connection to the Catholic faith, the promotion of Catholic education. Who are our listeners? Obviously Bishop Healing Sports fans. But who really needs our station? Lonely people, people who feel disconnected from their faith, Catholic people wanting to grow in their faith, and people wanting to become Catholic. All those are important to us that they listen and can maybe change their life. Remember our tagline Change Your Station, change your life. Vision. What is the vision of this station? Creating a more informed Catholic community. We want you to be smarter as a Catholic, helping people actively live their faith and measurable life change through small daily actions. We are all people of routine, but we do the same things over and over every day. What if part of that routine was ten more minutes of prayer? Go to mass one day a week outside of Sunday? Do a service project outside? Go into your parish and and work a fish dinner. Whatever it may be, those daily actions are gonna affect your faith life. What is our role as a radio station? Companionship. We want to be your companion every day. Guidance and growth. How do we do that? How do we do the things I just mentioned? Religious programming like Catholic answers, parenting advice with Ray Garandi, prayer events like The Chaplain and the Rosary, Catholic questions and answers with Father Mark Stoll. Interviews with local influential Catholics on faith and action, building partnerships and alliances with local Catholic organizations. Who would that be? Obviously Bishop Heland, Diocese of Sioux City, Mary's Choice, Holy Cross Parish, Modern Day Parish, Lamar's Galen Schools, the Sarah Club, Holy Spirit Retirement Home, and Catholic Daughters. Just know we are surely this voice of Bishop Helen Sports, but we are so much more than that, and we can become your daily companion if you just let us. Lastly, we are grateful to everybody who donates to us. Donates during a pledge drive, donates during a monthly angel, donates to sponsor our sports. We cannot do any of this. We cannot have Mike and John on the air if we do not get donors. And we thank you so much for becoming part of this. We appreciate uh you, Tim, and Ann and Grace and Jack back at the studio keeping everything going. And I know John and I really appreciate the opportunity that you guys have given us to follow Healing Baseball live as the season goes on. We're looking forward to a good long season through the playoffs, and hopefully it'll end over in Cedar Rapids. Yeah, we're we're very fortunate, Mike. I mean, uh I've known Tim and his wife Lisa a long, long time, and we couldn't have we couldn't have a better person uh uh heading up and with our Catholic radio station and Tim and and then of course Ann uh back at the station. Liz, I've known her family forever and ever, and just just good Catholic uh people that that live live their faith. And and I want to thank you, uh Tim, for allowing us to do what we do and have fun with it. Alright, we're gonna take a two minute break for the national anthem, and we will be back.
