SPEAKER_04

Two and one count.

SPEAKER_16

Cherkas will be next.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I'm a I'll call a little bit here, Mike. Well, Mike's trying to get the lineup in here, so if you don't mind, you get to listen to balls and strikes from me. Foul tip by Jepson makes it two and two. Good pitch on the inside corner by Shayner. It's really important that Shaner comes right after these guys this game. You know, and basically show that we've erased that game and we're gonna take our good things and come right into this game. Curveball high for ball three. We got a three-and-two count on Jepson. Kind of just kind of threw that curveball, just didn't break sharp. Peyton setting up on the outside corner. Just missed, just low. Just missed. You know, and that's a good pitch by Schaehner. And brings up Cherkis here.

SPEAKER_16

We know that Jepsen won't fool around out there on the bases. He's probably gonna be pegged to go here in the first couple pitches.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Jepson's giving him some kind of sign here. You know, and Cherkis is a contact hitter, so it's a good hit and run. You tell me when you're ready to take it back over, Mike.

SPEAKER_16

You're doing a much better job than I could. Cherkis is is up at the plate. Uh he'll be followed by Cook.

SPEAKER_04

That ball. See, that's that that's what you and I were talking about. That was an inside corner fastball by Shaner. Um it hit the it hit the heel of the bat, so we got ball, we got a uh foul tip, strike one. But it almost looked like he's leaning into the plate.

SPEAKER_16

If they're gonna let you do it, then they're gonna keep doing it, that's for sure. Check the runner at first, squares around.

SPEAKER_04

It's a good pitch. Pitch is hard.

SPEAKER_16

Yep. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, so if you see where he's lining up, he's he's batting left-handed, he's he's in on the line uh close, but where his left, excuse me, where his right elbow is, he's over the plate. And this this is where, as me as an umpire, when I'm umpiring, I'm like, you know, you get hit, and I'm telling the batter that you get hit, you know, I I'm calling that a strike.

SPEAKER_16

That squares again, pitch high for ball two, two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's important here. We got manufacturing out here. Shamer does come home a lot quicker uh than looks like what Jepsen likes. He's not getting quite the quite the jump.

SPEAKER_16

Throw over Jepson back just in time. Jepson goes. Throw to second, Jepson in there, ball skips away into center field. Jepson will take third, stolen base, advances to third on the ball that skipped out into center field. Got two balls, two strikes to Cherkis. Runner at third, no outs. We're just getting started in game two.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, ball got underneath glove Heaton and uh got out into center field. There we go.

SPEAKER_16

Pitch fouled off. Count remains two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, this is important here. I mean fly ball. Let's see. He's coming, he's got a shot at him. Oh no, no.

SPEAKER_16

Dylan took his eye off the ball, had it, and was looking to make the throw home. That's what uh Cherkis' speed will do for you or do to you. So Cherkis will score. I mean, Jepson will score on the air by Dylan.

SPEAKER_04

Boy, Dylan's kicking himself, uh, and and and rightfully so. I mean, you've got to make that play first, and and he knows it. I mean, yeah, we got to call spade a spade, and uh that's definitely one I'm sure he wants back. Uh I know exactly what he's doing. He's trying to get himself in that crow hop to make the throw home.

SPEAKER_16

Jerkis was able to advance to second. Shayner checks the runner, delivers to the plate. Outside ball one. One ball, no strikes. Cook at the plate from the left side, and Colling will follow. That pitch high for ball two, two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it was good to hear from Lori uh Lori, I call her Lori Wealthy, uh Lori Doherty, uh, who uh the unbelievable job she has done at Bishop Healing in enrollment is uh I I can't even begin.

SPEAKER_16

Pitch bonnet foul. Two balls, one strike to Cook. He'll be followed by Colling, Chamberlain, McCaffrey, Leander is the DH for Steuze, Weimer, and Ashcraft. The rest of the batting order for the East High Black Raiders. That's hit out to Carroll in left field. Settles under it, makes the catch for out number one.

SPEAKER_04

Good job by Tommy uh getting back first, and with that wind blowing out. I mean, he got back, and then if he had to come in, he he would have been able to, but it's camped underneath it.

SPEAKER_16

That will bring Bodie Colling to the plate. He's playing second base this game. He starting pitcher for the Black Raiders in game one. Top of the first inning, one out, runner at second. East leads one to nothing. That pitch high for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, important, important that Shaner, you know, keeps throwing strikes. We need to get out of this. Uh give up, just give up a run. Try to try to keep him down. I mean, the last thing we need is this get this second run in.

SPEAKER_16

Here's the pitch. Good clock. We do not need to dig too big a hole here in the first inning of game two.

SPEAKER_07

No.

SPEAKER_16

Two balls, no strikes to Colling. Chamberlain due up next.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I had a nice talk with Peyton in between games and just said, hey, you need you need to keep these kids fired up. We did a lot of positive things.

SPEAKER_16

Check of the runner at second. Deals to the plate. Pitches high. Ball three, three balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, you got that open base over there, I mean, so you lose him here. There's the pitch. Yeah, that's high.

SPEAKER_16

High for ball four.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Peyton just I was just gonna say, call timeout, go out there and get calm him down. Now here comes Coach Wesselman, and I think he sees the same thing you and I do, Mike. How important this second run is here.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, definitely need to keep keep that second run away from home plate.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I've never seen this. I don't think I've ever seen this umpire that we got behind home plate. I've seen the guy in the field before, and he called a really good first game.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, he did, he did a good job. And I know it's been just a few pitches, but gentlemen behind the plates doing an admirable job so far, too. Yep. Visit to the mound is over.

SPEAKER_04

That's exactly what Coach Wesselman. He he went out and he says, all right, I mean, we gotta nip this right now. Let's concentrate on number four here, Batten. And we gotta force out at any base. Let's just let's get the out.

SPEAKER_16

Chamberlain steps in. Check of the runner at second. Deals to the plate, squares to bunt. Low for ball one, one ball, no strikes. McCaffrey due to follow.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Shaner likes to keep that ball low and and that just missed the knees.

SPEAKER_16

Squares again. Beautiful bunt there. Nowhere to go with it. Bunt single by Chamberlain will load the bases, and that will bring up McCaffrey. Bases loaded, one out here in the top of the first. East already has one run across, and they lead Bishop Heal in one to nothing.

SPEAKER_04

This is this is huge here. Infield's got to come in, at least on our on our corners. Boy, that's a tough pitch to lay off.

SPEAKER_16

First pitch high for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Nice pitch. You know, Shaner throws with he's got a little velocity. He's just finding the zone here. He's just got to get that zone.

SPEAKER_16

Shamer deals. There we go. In there for strike one. One ball, one strike. Yeah, painted that inside corner. Shamer from the stretch. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

There we go.

SPEAKER_16

Outside corner for strike.

SPEAKER_04

Beautiful spot. Painted the back.

SPEAKER_16

One ball, two strikes. Leander due up next. And the pitch. Pitch high. Outside. Ball two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

That's one of those curved balls. Just didn't quite break. Kind of hung up over there.

SPEAKER_16

Wow. That brings the count full. Base is loaded. No place to put him.

SPEAKER_04

Boy, he is not missing much. He wanted that pitch. You can just see it in his face.

SPEAKER_16

Here's the delivery of the plate. Nice pitch. Fouled off out of play. Count remains. Three balls, two strikes. Base is full of black Raiders.

SPEAKER_04

Corner's got to be in. Chase needs to come in just another step or two.

SPEAKER_16

There's a pitch by Brody. Fouled off again down the first baseline out of play.

SPEAKER_04

Come on the outside corner and last two pitches. See if Peyton sets up.

SPEAKER_16

Pitch by Brody.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, where wow.

SPEAKER_16

Walks in a run.

SPEAKER_04

Where was that pitch?

SPEAKER_16

Second walk of the inning, keeps the bases loaded, pushes a run across. East Leeds Healing 2-0. We're in the top of the first. Bases are still loaded. Leander, the designated hitter, steps in.

SPEAKER_05

Well that had to be high.

SPEAKER_04

Looked like it was a good high school strike.

SPEAKER_16

In there for a strike. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Chase. Chase has got to come in just a little bit more. They're going to lay this thing down.

SPEAKER_16

There's pitch. Get out to Heaton at second. Off his glove. Gets into right field. Two runs will score. Black Raiders lead this one four to nothing. McCaffrey all the way to third. And Leander on at first.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's that's three errors in the first inning here, Mike. They've got one hit and they've got four runs. I mean, this is the stuff that as a head coach it just drives you nuts. And because you want to play clean ball.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, you can't give a team like this more opportunities, and that's exactly what we're doing. Weimer steps in for the first time tonight, squares to bunt, pitches outside for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Weimer's playing left field, he'll be followed by Ashcraft.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, good crowd out there in the left field line, up under the trees.

SPEAKER_16

Pitch bounces in there for ball two.

SPEAKER_04

You can see it in Shayner's face here a little bit, the frustration. He's just got to sit back, concentrate, let's get out of this inning.

SPEAKER_16

Here's the pitch by Brody outside. It's ball three, three balls, no strikes. First base is open. Runners at second and third. That pitch in there for strike one. Three balls, one strike. McCaffrey at third. Leander at second. Crusaders trail four to nothing here in the top of the first. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike two. That brings the count full to Weimer. He'll be followed by Ashcraft.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, same thing. Just throw that same pitch. Outside corner. About waist high.

SPEAKER_16

Here's the pitch by Brody.

SPEAKER_04

There you go.

SPEAKER_16

Caught looking.

SPEAKER_04

Nice.

SPEAKER_16

For out number two. That'll bring Ashcraft to the plate. I almost think watching this east batting order is you're required to be left to a left-handed batter, and we're going to go out and find one kid that can bat right-handed that we're going to put in every game.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, you don't know. I tell you what, that is to face that many left-handed batters, it's huge. It's a huge advantage for a team with left-handed hitters.

SPEAKER_16

Yep. Ashcraft, the ninth batter, to come to the plate this inning. First pitch is ball one, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Shaner found his zone there a little bit on this last batter and just missed on that first pitch.

SPEAKER_16

That pitch high and outside for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Again, if you're just joining us, East High won the first game 14-4 in six innings. And currently lead this one four to nothing in the top of the first. Two outs, two on for the Black Raiders. Here's the pitch at pitch high for ball three. Three balls, no strikes. At pitch high for ball four. That walk loads the bases. That will bring Jepson up to the plate who walked his first time up. Peyton goes out to have a conversation with Brody.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, and we got uh I can't tell who we got warming up in the bullpen out there, Mike, but we're warming somebody up, and and this is basically a chance to to give our guy time to warm up. Usually it's directed by the coach to have catch go out there. But the main thing is, is you know what? I mean, Shayner's not thrown bad, should have been out of the inning, and uh he just needs to concentrate on this guy and on Jepson and let's get out of here.

SPEAKER_16

First pitch. That ball hits sharply down the first baseline. That's trouble, that's all the way to the fence. That's gonna score three. Jepsen heading for third in with the triple. That now makes a score seven to nothing. Jepsen at third base with two outs.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Jepsen absolutely turned on that ball. That was a line drive down the down the right field line. I think Coach's gonna make a pitch and change here. Yep. And uh look. Looks like is that Beckett that's coming in? I think that's Beckett Blatchford.

SPEAKER_16

Oh, geez.

SPEAKER_04

Yep.

SPEAKER_16

Beckett Blatchford coming in. We're gonna take a one-minute break.

SPEAKER_02

You're listening to FM 88.1, KFHC, Honka Sioux City, and KOIA, Storm Lake, Sioux Land Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_07

Member FDIC.

SPEAKER_14

And now back to your Crusader's courts on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_16

We are back. New pitcher for Bishop Healing will be Beckett Blatchford. He's out taking his warm-up pitches. Looking to see. Schaener's gonna stay in the game, looking to see where it's gonna be. I'm guessing he's gonna move to third base. Position he's played.

SPEAKER_04

You know, Shaner didn't do a bad job throwing there, Mike. I feel bad for him here. I mean, we we made three errors in that first inning to extend the inning. We should have been out of here with one run. I mean, Jepsons was legit walked, uh, got the third on a stolen base and uh and a pass ball and and would have scored on the on the uh probably on the sack fly, but the two errors have extended this inning and and I'm sure Coach Wesselman is extremely frustrated.

SPEAKER_16

Again, we are in the top of the first inning. And healing trails this one seven to nothing. They have yet to come to bat. East has sent ten batters to the plate, and Cherkis will be up next with Jepson on third base.

SPEAKER_04

Well this is uh we haven't seen a lot of Beckett, so it's coming in here with a tough situation. Guy on third base, uh, two outs. You know, I'm sure coach just said, go in there, throw some strikes, let's get out of this inning. Let the defense do the jet. Let the defense do the job.

SPEAKER_16

Cherkis steps in. Blatchford deals to the plate, first pitch. It hits him. Cherkis reaches hit by pitch. That'll put runners at first and third and bring Cook to the plate. Flew out to Tommy Carroll in left field his first time up.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I tried to throw that ball inside and and uh and Cherkis just turned. Again, I I I I mean he's close, or he's getting hit, he's close to being on the inside corner of the plate.

SPEAKER_16

So it just first pitch to Cook that hits him. Two hit batters in a row will bring Colling to the plate. Healin already trails this one seven to nothing. We're just in the top of the first inning with two outs.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, uh Peyton's trying to come on the inside corner with those guys, and and uh the ball's just getting away from Beckett a little bit.

SPEAKER_16

Colling one of the rare right-handed batters in the East High lineup.

SPEAKER_04

I think in this game they got seven and two. Seven uh lefties and two righties, and in the first game it was eight and one.

SPEAKER_16

That pitch outside to colling for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Base is full of black raiders still. They lead seven to nothing looking to add to that. Three errors by the Crusaders in this inning have kept the inning alive. Pitch. Went in right field, settles under it, and that will retire the side. East is able to score seven runs. We're heading to the bottom of the second. They lead seven to nothing. We will be back in one minute.

SPEAKER_14

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_16

As we head to the bottom of the first inning, Crusaders Trail 7-0. Batting order for the Crusaders this game will be JJ Hope leading off playing shortstop. Batting second will be Peyton Erickson at catcher. Batting third in DHing will be Caleb LeFaver. Batting fourth, Brody Shaner now at third base. Tommy Carroll be batting fifth playing left field. Nathan Gaswent batting sixth playing right field. Aiden LeFavor batting seventh playing first base. Hendrix Heaton batting eighth, playing second. And Mr. Reliable Dylan Knapp, for the most part, had a misplay in the first inning, but he'll be playing center field, batting ninth. JJ steps in to see if he can get something going here and try to get some of these runs back.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it seven hits, uh seven runs on three hits, but the key was the three errors by the by by the Crusaders. I mean uncharacteristic errors.

SPEAKER_16

First pitch. In there for strike one. No balls, one strike. Throw over to first. Out number one.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Jephson was in a hurry to get rid of that ball. He knows how fast JJ can get down the line.

SPEAKER_16

Bring brings Peyton Erickson to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Jephson's got a big time arm. I mean, that and it takes a big time arm to get him when he's moving down the line like that.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, it was still a close play, even as good a play as Jepson made. Here's first pitch to Peyton. Outside ball one, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Cook uh he's not his ball. I mean, he has some nice velocity on the ball, but it doesn't move. I mean, we're gonna get pitches to hit. No question.

SPEAKER_16

That pitch on the outside corner for strike one. Two balls, one strike to Erickson. He'll be followed by Caleb Lefaver.

SPEAKER_04

I'd like to see his curve. I haven't seen the curve ball yet, so he's throwing all the ball. There it is.

SPEAKER_16

Pitch foul back right back at us. Yeah. Brings it two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, didn't break much. It uh had a nice little turn, and uh Peyton just missed that one.

SPEAKER_16

There's a pitch. That pitch is low for ball three. Three balls, two strikes. Will Favor do up next, followed by Shaner?

SPEAKER_04

Well, he likes to work that outside corner, so my my guess is he's going back at it. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_16

Here's a pitch. Grounded out to Bodie at second. Over to first for out number two. Two up, two down for the Crusaders here in the bottom of the first. They trail seven to nothing. Caleb O'Faver steps in.

SPEAKER_04

Boy, I'd like to see him get one up in the air out to left field and let that thing go. I mean, he's definitely got the power. They've kind of learned their lesson. They're playing them straight up.

SPEAKER_16

First pitch on the inside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike. Again, we'll our next broadcast will be Thursday from Lamar's. 5.30 and 7.30 will be first pitches. Pregame will be 5.15. Caleb fouls that second pitch off. No balls, two strikes. Here's the pitch. Bounces away from Cherkis. Ball one. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

That's how you're supposed to get out of the way of the ball, Mike. Instead of turning into it.

SPEAKER_16

Here's the pitch. Grounds head out to Colling at second. Throws over to first. One, two, three inning. No runs, no hits for the Crusaders. We'll go to the top of the second Crusaders trail. Seven to nothing. We'll be back in one minute.

SPEAKER_16

If you've got uh slightly used uniforms, athletic equipment, uh anything like that, you can drop it off at Healing any day, Monday through Friday from 9 to noon. And then on August 12th is the night that anyone can come in and they can go and look through the stuff, see what they need, see what they want, and it's absolutely free. So anybody out there that's got Crusader uniforms, athletic equipment, anything, feel free to drop that off as Chamberlain doubles down the left field line. Drop that off at Healing, and another family will be able to put it to good use.

SPEAKER_04

Chamberlain just loops that one just out of the reach of JJ Hope. I mean made a great effort at that thing, kind of looped it in between left field and shortstop.

SPEAKER_16

McCaffrey steps in. Chamberlain at second, no outs. East leads seven to nothing here in the top of the second. There you go. Swing and a miss there.

SPEAKER_04

Good little uh movement on the ball by Beckett. I mean, kind of a little little slider there. You know, that just kind of just got uh got him off balance a little bit.

SPEAKER_16

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

There you go.

SPEAKER_16

Outside corner for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

There you go. I mean, this is where you just you get back and you just hit batter by batter, one pitch by pitch, try to manufacture an out. I mean, he did his job that first one. That was just kind of an unlucky hit. Chamberlain puts up there in between left and short, uh short.

SPEAKER_16

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Nice pitch.

SPEAKER_16

Fouled off down the first baseline out of play. Count Reigns, no balls, two strikes. Yeah, there's a lot of baseball game left. Seven to nothing. Hold him to no runs here. Get back to the plate and get a run or two across and just slowly chip away at it.

SPEAKER_04

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_16

Checks the runner at second, delivery to the plate. Puts it out to Dylan in center field. Nice. Nice running catch by Dylan Knapp out in center field. He went a long way to make that catch, folks. Great play out there by Dylan for the first half.

SPEAKER_04

That's big time. That's a big time play by Dylan. He covered a lot of ground.

SPEAKER_16

Yes, he did. He said you'll get me with that one in the first game, but you're not getting me with that one in the second game.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_16

Leander steps in.

SPEAKER_04

Terrible job by the by the guy on second base should have been tagging on that. He would have easily been in the third.

SPEAKER_16

But uh I think he thought he wasn't gonna get to it.

SPEAKER_04

That's our that's all right. We want them to make those mistakes. So we've had our share in the first inning. Let's let's let them make some here. Yes.

SPEAKER_16

Bladford checks the runner in second, deals to the plate. You gotta low and inside, ball two, two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Beckett, you gotta keep him on there.

SPEAKER_16

Weimer do up next.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Keep him on second. Yeah, he's just getting a huge lead.

SPEAKER_16

Here's the pitch to the plate. Way outside. Ball three. Three balls, no strikes. Weimer would be followed by Ashcraft.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, he's been listening to me, right? I mean, when I say he's got to keep him close, he he makes a move towards second base. I like it.

SPEAKER_16

So at least he didn't turn and at least he didn't turn and release it. We've had that happen a couple times.

SPEAKER_04

There we go.

SPEAKER_16

Pitch on the outside corner, strike one.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Beckett's Beckett's right around the zone. I like it. He came in here, he's throwing strikes.

SPEAKER_16

I mean checks a runner at second, deals to the plate. That ball hit out to gas, went in right field. He's going back, going back, settles under it, makes the catch. Runner tags from second, advances to third.

SPEAKER_04

That is not an easy play right now, where the sun is dipping down. Anybody that's played at Bishop or uh Sister of St. Francis Field here knows at this time of the day in the summer that sun starts dipping.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, that was uh tough play, and he almost made it look easy, but he was able to make the catch. Weimer steps in, he struck out looking his first time up. First pitch.

SPEAKER_04

There you go.

SPEAKER_16

In there for strike one, no balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, let's have a one-two-three inning. Well, not quite one, two, three, but pretty close.

SPEAKER_16

If we can get three outs in a row, I'll take it as one, two, three inning.

SPEAKER_04

Let's take it.

SPEAKER_16

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Good scoop.

SPEAKER_16

Bounces in there for ball one. One ball, one strike. Peyton keeps it in front of him, saves a run. Ashcraft two up next. Here's the pitch by Beckett. High for ball two. Two balls, one strike. Chamberlain at third. Top of the second inning. East High leads seven to nothing. Seven runs on four hits for the Black Raiders. They've had the benefit of three Crusader errors. That ball hit out to Heaton at second. Over to first for the third out. That will retire the side. We will head to the bottom of the second inning. East Leeds 7-0. We'll be back in one minute.

Sounds like runs to me, Mike. Shaner's been making good contact.

SPEAKER_16

First pitch. Popped up on the infield. Makes the catch for out number one.

SPEAKER_04

I like being aggressive on that first pitch. He's throwing strikes and he's throwing the ball straight down the middle. You know, he's giving you something good to hit first pitch. And uh I I don't mind being aggressive. Try to make something happen.

SPEAKER_16

Brings Carroll to the plate. Pitch in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Well, he doesn't he doesn't waste any time, does he?

SPEAKER_16

Oh, he knows it's gonna be dark soon. Yeah. One ball, one strike. Pitch high for ball two, two balls, one strike. Kerr will be followed by Gaswent. Here's the pitch. Outside corner strike two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

He's gonna give you stuff to hit. Yeah, I mean you've got to be up there and you gotta be really, you gotta be swinging.

SPEAKER_16

And the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Nice. Good luck. Tough. No, he didn't go. He didn't go.

SPEAKER_16

Low and outside. That brings count full. Three balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, pitcher wanted him to check that, but now he didn't go. He kept that bat back.

SPEAKER_16

First base umpire was ready. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

That's trouble. Oh, just good play by the pitcher.

SPEAKER_16

High bouncer to the pitcher. Over to first for out number two.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. That's called covering your position right there, Mike. He did a good job of most uh pitchers come off the mile and that thing's over their head.

SPEAKER_05

That's a tough play.

SPEAKER_16

That'll bring Nathan Gaswent to the plate. Should he get on? That will bring Aiden Lefaver up. First pitch to Nathan. And that hit him.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_16

Nathan wasn't sure the umpire was giving him the hit by pitch. The umpire's adamantly pointing toward first base. Get down there, get down there.

SPEAKER_04

I think Nathan wanted to swing at that and realized that the last second that thing was kind of coming in on him.

SPEAKER_16

Yep. And little difference in result in that play. He didn't slam his bat to the ground. He just headed down to first. Yeah. First pitch to Aiden. In there for a strike. No balls, one strike. Heaton do up next. Gaswin takes off. He's got a stolen base, folks.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, he had a huge jump.

SPEAKER_16

Well, for Nathan, you need a huge jump. He's a little faster than he looks, but I think he got down there pretty quick. When he's running around in the outfield, he is rumbling around out there.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_16

Feel the earth move under my feet whenever he's taking off after a ball. No balls, one strike to no balls, two strikes a little favor.

SPEAKER_04

Well, two outs. And we talk about it. We've talked about it every what can you do with two outs here? I mean, let's let's nip nip at this lead.

SPEAKER_16

Here's a pitch. There we go. Fouled off at the plate. Count remains, no balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's a good cut. Good cut. I mean, just put the ball in play. He's gonna give you something close. One thing uh that Cook likes to do is he doesn't like to waste too many pitches. I mean, he's 0-2 on on Aiden, and everybody he's been ahead on, he's coming right back with a strike. He puts it right around the plate. So you're gonna get something to hit.

SPEAKER_16

Long look in, looks back at second, deals to the plate. Popped up on the infield. First baseman makes a play for the third out. That will retire the side. We'll head to the top of the third. East. Seven. Bishop Healing Zero. We'll be back in one minute.

SPEAKER_13

SPEAKER_14

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_16

We're back. Top of the third inning. Hit two batters in a row and been able to settle down.

SPEAKER_04

He has.

SPEAKER_16

Swing and a miss, strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

You know, I mean, this is uh what Coach Wesselman wanted when he put him in here. He said, go in. I mean, throw strikes.

SPEAKER_16

Ball hit out to Dillon in center field. A few steps back, makes the over-the-shoulder catch for out number one. That will bring up the top of the order. And Cal Jepson.

SPEAKER_05

Cal Jepson.

SPEAKER_04

Well, it just seems like he's bent up every other bat. Isn't this his fourth at bat?

SPEAKER_16

Uh it's his it'll be his third.

SPEAKER_04

Third? Jeez.

SPEAKER_16

Got a walk and a triple. I'd like to thank Grace Tott back in the studio for keeping everything going. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Not a bad pitch.

SPEAKER_16

Inside for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Delivery. Outside ball two, two balls, no strikes. I'd like to thank Healing legend Jaron Bleecker, current Iowa Hawkeye pitcher, for stopping by between games to let everybody catch up on what's going on in his life. Here's the pitch. Hit hard out to Heaton at second base. Fields it. Nice throw over to first for out number two.

SPEAKER_04

Nice job by Heaton.

SPEAKER_16

And uh look like a junior play with that play there.

SPEAKER_04

You know, I mean, that's and that's exactly what he needs. He just needs to get more and more grounders. He needs to be out there more, get the feel.

SPEAKER_16

Nice steps in. First pitch in there for a strike. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Beckett's got this uh little wiggle curveball. He's got it working, kind of just grooving it right in there. Comes back with that fastball. A little bit high, but nice pitch.

SPEAKER_16

One ball, one strike, two outs. We're in the top of the third. Crusaders trail, seven to nothing. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

One thing that their lefties do, and this is top, Mike, is when they're lefties, and you saw Jackson do it, and and it's and I and I'll I'll tell you here after this pitch.

SPEAKER_16

I'll tell you here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

So what their lefties do when they're when they're in there and the ball's on an inside pitch, you watch, they don't bend backwards to get out of the way. What they do is they turn their body so that their shoulder is actually over the line and and and basically covering that inside of the plate, and that's taught.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, his his uh armor is sticking out over home plate.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, and and and they got seven in this game seven left-handed batters in the first game eight, and every one of them does it. And it's I mean, until somebody calls it, you know, it's a it's a great strategy to have.

SPEAKER_16

Full count to Cherkis. Here's the pitch.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_16

And that hit him.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, that ball was gonna hit him anyway, but you saw how he what he did. I mean, he just turned toward the plate.

SPEAKER_16

That'll bring Cook to the plate. Flew out to left field his first time up and hit by pitch the last time.

SPEAKER_04

All right, Beckett. You got two outs here. I mean, no harm, no foul here. Let's see, let's get out of this inning. Manufacture ground ball.

SPEAKER_16

First pitch.

SPEAKER_04

There we go.

SPEAKER_16

Outside corner for strike one, no balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Good job. Framen by Peyton on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_16

Pitch for the plate. Fouled off. No balls, two strikes. Two outs here in the top of the third inning. Cherkis at first. Black Raiders lead seven to nothing. Delivery. And that hit him. Two hit by pitches here in the inning puts runners at first and second with two outs.

SPEAKER_04

I d I don't know. I don't get why we're not arguing that. I I don't here comes Wes Coach Wessman out, but I don't understand why we're not arguing that. I mean, he turned into that pitch, and that ball, I don't think that that's out of the zone. But maybe I'm wrong, you know, about my angle, but we will have a pitching change.

SPEAKER_16

Blatford is headed to the dugout. Let's see who is next in line. Haven't seen A Rod yet tonight. Wondering if maybe he's next. Still waiting to see somebody. No, I see him in the dugout, so not sure who it's gonna be.

SPEAKER_04

Um, it's got somebody who's warming up, but I don't know if he's come out yet. Yeah, this while we're waiting here, let's uh let's get some of our underwriters and sponsors for Catholic Radio and Bishop Healing Baseball with all their fixtures, Liberty National Bank, Lightform, Modern Day Parish, McClintock Insurance, Meyer Brothers Funeral Home, Mills Shellhammer Pitts, Missouri Valley Land and Cattle, Mollet Industrial Group, My Jeweler, Myra Favors State Farm Agency, Neil Pfeiffer, KOC Insurance Agent, NUCRIB Inspection, People's Bank of Sioux City, Prime Bank, Queen of Peace, Trinity Heights, R. E. Scott, Rooley Family Chiropractic, and Shram Electric. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healing Baseball and Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_16

That was the reason for the delay. The new pitcher is Peyton Erickson, so we had to have an equipment change. We now have Raiden Frelick behind the plate, who came in Friday before last and did an extremely good job. Uh first time behind the plate in the in a varsity setting.

SPEAKER_04

That's the first time we've seen Peyton.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, I don't I don't remember seeing him yet this year, so and and why not?

SPEAKER_04

I mean, we we know what kind of arm he has. Ooh, throws a nice curveball. A warm-up there.

SPEAKER_16

Runners at first and second for the Black Raiders here in the top of the third. They currently lead seven to nothing. Two outs, two on. Bodie Colling will step in when Peyton is done with his warmups.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we get to see the young Freyleck kid. Uh did a nice job. His first time catching back when Peyton was hurt, so he's got an exciting future ahead of him.

SPEAKER_16

He'd have a visit with him after the game, John, tell him how to dress as a catcher. He's only got one sleeve on.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I don't know if they could be number 10 for you probably.

SPEAKER_04

I think that's the new trend. I think every I mean I watch a basketball game now, Mike, and I think yeah, you know, one leg's got is covered and the other one isn't.

SPEAKER_16

So God bless you for being able to watch a pro basketball game. I think right now it's the worst sport on the face of the earth.

SPEAKER_04

It's uh yeah, it's it's not what it used to be, but yeah, I still enjoy it.

SPEAKER_16

First pitch by Peyton. High for ball one, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

You mean to tell me you being from Texas, you're not even for the San Antonio's first?

SPEAKER_16

No, but I'm I can't I can't watch a league that's nothing but flopping, no defense. Oh here's pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Here we go.

SPEAKER_16

Pitch foul back, one ball, one strike. Well, it doesn't have to do with baseball, John, but I'm gonna ask you. Yeah, who's the uh, in your opinion, who's the greatest basketball player of all time?

SPEAKER_04

Oh boy, you know, uh it's either Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson. Larry Larry Bird's right up there with him, but uh, I mean I I'm an MJ guy.

SPEAKER_16

That pitch lined over the third baseman's head. Carroll Fields at one run will score.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it was a nice piece of hit, and that was a beautiful curve ball by Erickson. Just kind of hung a little bit, but uh great job of hitting. I I like the pitch though. Uh I I really do. That was that had a really nice break to it.

SPEAKER_16

Double by Colling scores one run, makes a score eight to nothing. That'll bring Chamberlain to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, just keep strikes here.

SPEAKER_16

Fouled off end of the East dugout for strike one, no balls one strike.

SPEAKER_04

And you can't you can't keep LeBron out of the conversation. I mean, I'm I'm Oh yes, yeah. I'm not all right.

SPEAKER_16

That conversation's over. We'll have to think of something else. What's your favorite deli sandwich then, John? Well, maybe we can agree on that.

SPEAKER_04

There you go.

SPEAKER_16

If I played 110 years, I could have every record, too.

SPEAKER_04

I got a trivia. This is a baseball question, and I got a little trivia question playing in between here.

SPEAKER_16

Here's a pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Nice.

SPEAKER_16

Grounded out to Heaton at second, throws over to first, out number three. East pushes one run across in that inning. They lead eight to nothing. We'll head to we'll keep it here. Head to the bottom of the third.

SPEAKER_04

I'm gonna give you some more of our sponsors and our underwriters for Catholic Radio, Bishop Healing Baseball. Uh Neil Pfeiffer, KOC, insurance agent, um Rooley, family chiropractor, Security National Bank, Service Master of Sioux Land, Sioux Body Shop, the Sioux City Musketeers, Sioux City Sprinkler, Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, Sneaky's Chicken, Soho Kitchen and Bar, St. Augustine Indian Mission, Staber Meats, Sunnybrook Dental, Tim and Lisa Swadin, Tri-State Dental Care, Vance Thompson Vision SC, Prof. LLC, Wall of Fame, Graphics Incorporated, Wilmus Do It Best Hardware, Sioux City, South Sioux City, and Ren's Plumbing and Heating Incorporated. Thank you so much for being sponsors of Bishop Healing Baseball and Catholic Radio. Mike, what's the only Big Ten team not to have a baseball team?

SPEAKER_16

I should know this.

SPEAKER_04

Come on, man. And trust me, it's it's tough to stump Mike on sports questions.

SPEAKER_16

I know the one Big 12 team that doesn't have a baseball team. Uh you got me on a Big Ten.

SPEAKER_04

This comes from uh my grandson's grandmother, Leslie Riediger. She's at the Wisconsin Badgers, does not have a Big Ten baseball team.

SPEAKER_16

I guess I need to start following the Big Ten a little closer in baseball then. Heaton steps in to lead off the third inning. First pitch is a strike. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Boy, we've got to come up ready to hit here. This guy's throwing nothing but strikes. Yeah, it's we gotta we gotta be aggressive. There we go. That's gonna be tough play.

SPEAKER_16

Colling makes a great play, ranges over to his right, feels it, throws to first for the first out.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that was a great play by Colling. That was a good hit by Heaton right up the middle.

SPEAKER_16

Yep, hit it right where he needed to. Colling just made a really good play. And I know we're not supposed to talk about it when our pitcher has it, but right now Healing is being no hit, so maybe we can we can break that right here. Maybe we can jinx it and get a hit here. Dylan Knapp at the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Here's the kid to do it.

SPEAKER_16

Swing and a miss by Dillon for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

It's that curve ball. You know, the nice thing about Dylan, I mean, he'll come back with that curve.

SPEAKER_16

Okay. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

A little low, but that but that's Dylan was ready for it. Is there's a guy gonna break it?

SPEAKER_16

Oh wow. This guy this umpire must have dinner reservation somewhere.

SPEAKER_04

He came back. That was an in inside curve ball. Ah, must have caught the inside corner.

SPEAKER_16

I didn't think it did, but um balls are two outs. JJ Hope steps in.

SPEAKER_04

Nice, yeah. There we go, work. Wait a minute.

SPEAKER_16

JJ Hope on it first. That will bring Peyton Erickson to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

And as a pitcher, you can get good jumps.

SPEAKER_16

And that hit Payton. JJ Hope trots down to second base, got runners at first and second for Caleb Lefaver. Healing trails eight to nothing. Cal Geesey gonna go in and run for Peyton. So we've got a little speed on the base pass here.

SPEAKER_04

Let's talk about Cal real quick. I wanted to go back to Cal on the soccer season that he had. And those that of you that didn't get to see him uh play 20 23 or 24 goals this year, one of the tops in the state, and just a magnificent, you know, forward for the Healing soccer team.

SPEAKER_16

First pitch by Cook.

SPEAKER_04

Outside ball one. And it's tough for those kids. We've I know we've had it happen before with uh you know some players that have done both sports, and and for him to try to do two sports, soccer and baseball, and it's hard. I give all the credit. Nice piece of hit and up right to him.

SPEAKER_16

Get it right down to the first baseman for out number three.

unknown

No runs on one hit, no air.

SPEAKER_16

That will take us to the top of the fourth inning. Crusaders trail eight to nothing. We'll be back in one minute.

SPEAKER_15

SPEAKER_14

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_16

Here in the top of the fourth inning, East will send McCaffrey, Leander, and Weimer to the plate to face Peyton Erickson.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, uh see how Peyton. There we go.

SPEAKER_16

Oh, just off the glove of Shaner down at third. Would have been a tough play anyway. McCaffrey on with the double to start the inning. East Artie leads this one. Eight to nothing. Eight runs on five hits.

SPEAKER_04

That was a good pitch by Peyton inside corners. Nice piece of hit and got the ground ball, but just down the line, just over the first base. Or excuse me, over third base and just out of the reach of Shaner's glove.

SPEAKER_05

Number 11. Leander.

SPEAKER_16

Leander steps in from the left side. Reached on an error his first time up and flew out to Nathan Gasswent in right field the last time up. Peyton checks the runner at second, deals to the plate. Hit down to Aiden Lefaver at first. He feels it. Unassisted. Out number one.

SPEAKER_04

Nice play by Aiden. Playing the line.

SPEAKER_16

McCaffrey advances to third on that. That will bring Weimer to the plate. He'll be followed by Ashcraft. First pitch. And there for strike one. No balls, one strike. Peyton working quickly. Here's a pitch. Swing and a miss, strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

You know, I really like seeing this uh with Peyton throwing. He's throwing nice. He's he's got a little velocity, he's got a nice curveball. But what it really does, Mike, is it gives him some innings and gives him some throws for down the down the road, come playoff time. Uh you know, I'm sure Coach Welsman's trying to find that guy that he that can come in and and shut him down.

SPEAKER_16

Pitch just outside for ball one, one ball, two strikes. Yeah, so far he's done a good job with that. Here's the pitch. Gets away from Fralick. And McCaffrey will score from third. That will make the score nine to nothing. And the count is two balls, two strikes to Weimer. Nine runs on six hits for East. They've been the had the good fortune of three errors by the Crusaders to help inflate that score. Here's a pitch.

unknown

There you go.

SPEAKER_16

Outside corner caught looking, strike three. That's out number two for East. That'll bring Ashcraft to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, let's let's get this guy out here and get our bats going, see what we can do. Nice curve ball, a little high.

SPEAKER_16

Start building on those positives that we need to get ready for Lamar's on Wednesday. Or Thursday, I'm sorry. Pitch inside. Two balls, no strikes to Ashcraft. He'll be followed by Jepson. Who getting tired of calling his name tonight, John?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Well, one thing we found out he's legit. I mean, he he he's a legit Division I ball player, Mike. And wouldn't be surprised to see him, you know, maybe go in the draft here. I I don't know what round, maybe the high rounds. I don't know. I don't know where he's projected, but uh a good looking ball player.

SPEAKER_16

Three balls, no strikes to Ashcraft. Just the pitch by Peyton in there for strike one, three balls, one strike. Two outs, one run across for East here in this inning. They currently lead nine to nothing.

SPEAKER_04

Shout out to my sister Nancy Zedeker. I know she's listening tonight. There we go. Nice pitch inside corner.

SPEAKER_16

Brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Peyton starts his wind up. Here's the pitch. And that hits him. That's five-hit batsman tonight by the Crusader pitching. That'll bring the very dangerous Cal Jepson to the plate. Who would love nothing more than to drive in another run and make this a 10 to nothing game? We are in the top of the fourth. Crusaders trail 9 to nothing.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, he he jumped all over the first pitch. He got thrown to him last time, so I was just gonna say I think Peyton needs to keep the ball away from him. Anything in his wheelhouse.

SPEAKER_16

Pitch outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. That's gonna score one. Jepson rounding second on his way to third. That makes the score 10 to nothing, Black Raiders. And Jepsen is on third with a triple.

SPEAKER_04

It's got to be about his third or fourth of the game, or of the double header. I think they're all hitting that same spot right between uh left center and uh right field.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, he's put it in the same spot every time. That'll bring Cherkis to the plate. Two outs. Jepson on third. Here's the pitch. Bounces in there for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Peyton takes a long look in. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss.

SPEAKER_04

Nice pitch.

SPEAKER_16

One ball, one strike, two outs. Jeffson to third, Shirkus at the plate, here's the pitch. Outside.

SPEAKER_04

Nice job, Framan, by young Frelick. Right, and shout out to his mom Lisa and his dad Justin.

SPEAKER_16

Here's the pitch. Bounces in there. Ball three, three balls, one strike. Cook due up next. Crusaders trail 10 to nothing. We're in the top of the fourth inning. Bounces in there for ball four. Cherkistraws the walk, runners at first and third. Cook steps in, hit by a pitch twice tonight in this game too. And flew out to Tommy Carroll and left field.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it's been a lot of throwing for Peyton. I mean, behind the plate. You know, with his heat working working a game and a half, and then now coming out on the mound.

SPEAKER_16

Erickson takes his time looking in, checks a runner at third. Runner at first goes. Jepson will score from third on the throwdown to second. That makes a score 11 to nothing. Cherkis at second. First pitch was ball one. One ball, no strikes to Cook. He'll be followed by Colling. And the pitch. Outside, ball two. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Kind of like uh what Caleb Lefaver has, that open look.

SPEAKER_16

Here's the pitch. Outside ball three, three balls, no strikes. Cherkis at second. Three runs in for East this inning. They lead 11-0. 11 runs on seven hits. Healing has no runs on one hit. There's a pitch by Peyton. Just outside for ball four. Puts runners at first and second. Two outs. That will bring Bodie Colling to the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Body Colling.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Ryden. Ryden's gonna go out and talk to Peyton.

SPEAKER_16

Catcher to catcher here and yeah, a little reversed uh role play here for Peyton. He's usually the one giving the advice to settle down and just throw strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Now let's get out of here. We got let's work on some positives. Um let's get out of this inning. Yeah, two outs.

SPEAKER_16

Here's the pitch. And that hits him. That'll load the bases. Bases full of black raiders.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, here comes Coach Wesselman. I think I think that's he's seen enough.

SPEAKER_16

It's gonna bring JJ Hope into pitch. You have to wonder if they're gonna give Peyton the rest of the night off or if he's gonna Yeah, I I would just rest him.

SPEAKER_04

Well, let's see.

SPEAKER_16

Looks like he's gonna go in and put the gear on.

SPEAKER_04

Yep, looks like he's coming back in to catch and good job by Ryden. I mean, I don't know. I think I agree with you here, Mike. I maybe just let Ryden finish it out and let and let Peyton. Yeah, I think that's what they're gonna do.

SPEAKER_16

Good.

SPEAKER_04

Uh I'm I'm looking over there and seeing if he's putting the gear back on.

SPEAKER_16

That yeah, it could be Ryden's just out there to warm up JJ.

SPEAKER_04

But uh, I mean this give give Ryden a little experience and uh give Peyton a little rest. I mean, at this point.

SPEAKER_16

I always like it when the relief pitcher comes in and sails that first one way back to the back step.

SPEAKER_04

I haven't seen JJ. We haven't seen him throw for a little while, so uh we saw him throw uh I'm trying to think early in the year, and he came in, did a nice job, but uh seen him since.

SPEAKER_05

Number five.

SPEAKER_04

And and we know he can throw strikes.

SPEAKER_16

Looks like we might have Chase Beck coming in to play shortstop.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, this could get interesting on the old on the old uh participation card.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, I'm I'm done trying to figure it out in the book here.

SPEAKER_04

This is where the umpire's got his. Hopefully he's you're trying to figure out who's where sometimes you just kind of just write stuff down and and make it up and hopefully he didn't screw up.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, on a night like tonight, you just write it at the bottom and draw a couple arrows.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, he's bringing Peyton back in.

SPEAKER_16

So Erickson will come in to take Frelex's place.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, coach just trying to get out of this inning.

SPEAKER_16

Here's pitch. Inside ball one, one ball, no strikes. Base is loaded with Black Raiders. They lead this one 11-0. We're in the top of the fourth inning. Long look in by JJ. He deals to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Nice pitch.

SPEAKER_16

On that inside corner for strike one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Good pitch by JJ in the inside corner.

SPEAKER_16

Here's the pitch. Heaton makes a good effort out at second base, goes out into right field. Two-run score. That will make the score 13-0 Black Raiders. And we've got runners on the corners with two outs. That will bring McCaffrey to the plate here in the top of the fourth. Well, I've seen the scores on Iowa baseball and I've seen the scores on bound, but yeah. I was hoping we could slow them down and and maybe get a split, but these guys can really hit the ball.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, they uh I mean they've they've been over the 20 mark uh several times this year. And uh, I mean, i if they're not leading the state, I mean they're they're pretty close.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, they've got to be real close. We've helped them with errors and and hit batsmen.

SPEAKER_04

Yep, no question.

SPEAKER_16

Two balls, no strikes to McCaffrey. Here's the pitch. Bounces in there, ball three, three balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we just need to manufacture an out here. Whatever it takes.

SPEAKER_16

Pitch in there for strike one. Three balls, one strike. Again, Crusaders trail in the top of the fourth, 13 to nothing. He says runners at first and third with two outs. That's in there for ball four. That'll load the bases. And that will bring up Leander. Grounded out to Aiden Lefaver at first base on a censored last time up. Flew out to Nathan Gaswin and reached on an error in the first inning and scored a run.

SPEAKER_04

Now we just need to throw strike. Just get some strikes, skin swinging. Let's let our defense get us out of the inning.

SPEAKER_16

Here's the pitch to Leander. Every East Base runner is about halfway to the next base with their lead here. Here's the pitch. That pitch fouled off the plate. One ball, one strike. East has pushed five runs across this inning to take a 13-0 lead here in the top of the fourth. Here's the pitch. That's popped up. Peyton. Misplayed by one of the East high parents there. Sketching a lot of flack from the East parents.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, you gotta make that play, Mike. You and I would have had it.

SPEAKER_16

Well, that's reminds me of an incident I was involved in down in Omaha a few years ago that I embarrassed my family. Here's the pitch. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

I say we go to a bit like banana ball, where if they catch it in the stands, it's an owl.

SPEAKER_16

Oh, they're bringing ice over. Got an injury in the stands. Might have to get Kinsey to the healing trainer to come up and take a look at this parent. Full count. Nowhere to put him. Three balls, two strikes. Now he is refusing medical attention. And here's the pitch. Fouled off. Count remains. Three balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

There we go.

SPEAKER_16

For out number three. That'll end the inning, but the Black Raiders add five runs. They lead 13 to nothing as we head to the bottom of the fourth. We'll be back in one minute.

SPEAKER_02

SPEAKER_14

And now back to your Crusader sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_16

They have 13 runs on eight hits, no errors. Healing has no runs on one hit and three errors.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, let's uh the score obviously is lopsided here right now. It's not but let's not take anything away from from this healing team. I mean, we got a good ball club. We just we need to hit some get some positives going here to go into the Lamar's game, like you said last last inning, Mike. I mean, and and say it for what is. It's a really really good East High School baseball team.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, we're definitely better than we showed tonight. Jackson Vickery at the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Coach Miller uh for East has done an excellent job and uh senior uh nice pitch.

SPEAKER_16

One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

A senior uh led team. I mean, he's got seven, I think seven seniors, or five or six seniors starting this game.

SPEAKER_16

That pitch low for ball two, two balls, two strikes. Nice hit, hit sharply out to left field, gets away from the left fielder, bounces off his glove. Vickery holds up at first. See what the official scorer gives on that one. That was a tough play.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, he there's there's no question, that's it, that's a hit all the way. He he's he uh he laid out to try to catch that and uh and it just it just got away from him and bounced. I mean, I thought maybe we'd get a double off of that, but Vickery held up at first.

SPEAKER_16

Carroll steps in. Nice gets that down to third, over to second. Nice double play by these tie black Raiders there.

SPEAKER_04

That's how you do it right there. Sort of beautiful double double play.

SPEAKER_16

Two outs for the Crusaders. That brings Nathan Gasmint to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Not two well-hit balls. I mean, that ball hit right to the third baseman, which allowed him time to do that, uh, to make that double play.

SPEAKER_16

First pitch outside to Nathan. One ball, no strikes him on that one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Nice curve ball in the outside corner.

SPEAKER_16

13 to nothing lead. Healing's gonna need to get four runs in these next two innings.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, he's still got a good crowd here. I mean, you know, on this muggy night. I mean, there's a heck of a crowd up in the outfield out there. So parking, parking out there is too deep up on the hill. Nice hit by Nathan.

SPEAKER_16

Took that the other way.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, beautiful inside out hitting by Nathan.

SPEAKER_16

That'll bring Aiden LaFor to the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Number 18, Aiden LaFaver.

SPEAKER_16

No balls, one strike. Again, we'll be back on the air Thursday from Lamars. Pregame 515. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 530. Grounded down to the third baseman. Throw wild to first base.

SPEAKER_04

You know, I'm I'll tell you what, Mike, I'm giving him a hit on that. That ball, that was a tough play at the backhand behind the third base, kind of a middle of the road roller. Well, they're giving him an error up there, but I I I think that's a tough play.

SPEAKER_16

It's going as a hit in this book, John.

SPEAKER_04

Number 41. Yeah, they're giving it uh giving third baseman an error on the Throw, but man.

SPEAKER_16

Heaton steps in. Crusaders at second and third, two outs. We're in the bottom of the fourth. They trailed 13 to nothing, looking to try to get some runs across here. First pitch low for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Dylan Knapp do up next.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, these are those positives that you and I were talking about, Mike. You know, making some things happen. Um something you can build on for the next next doubleheader.

SPEAKER_16

Pitch was in there for strike one. One ball, one strike. Here's the pitch. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Keep that back foot in there. Keep that back foot in. Dig in there.

SPEAKER_16

Two on, two outs for Healing here in the bottom of the fourth. They trail 13 to nothing. Trying to punch a couple runs across here.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. I mean, some of the things that I was looking for in this doubleheader, I have not been disappointed. Nice. I don't know where it went.

SPEAKER_16

Heaton pops that up. Cherkis makes the play. And that will end the inning. Healing gets two on but is unable to score. We will go to the top of the fifth. Crusaders trail this one 13 to nothing. We'll be back in one minute.

SPEAKER_14

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_16

East leads this one 13 to nothing. Weimer steps in for the Black Raiders. First pitch by JJ Hope. High for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

There we go.

SPEAKER_16

Outside corner. Outside corner for strike one. Two balls, one strike. Weimer will be followed by Ashcraft and Jepson. Just outside ball three. Three balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

I'm sure Coach just told JJ, just come in there and throw some strikes. That's gonna be a triple.

SPEAKER_16

Weimers digging for third. The ball got stuck under the fence out there. He is gonna stay at third with the triple. That will bring Ashcraft to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

I don't understand that. That should have been a ground rule double then, or did he?

SPEAKER_16

I wonder if Nathan tried to pick it up and then realized he couldn't and then put his raised his hands.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's Coach Wesselman's uh rightfully so is asking the uh umpire like, hey, what's the call here? I mean if he couldn't make a play, if it stuck, that's ground rule double. Well, what's he saying? He's I'm missing something here, Mike.

SPEAKER_16

Ashcraft steps in. Weimer on third with the leadoff triple. Jepson and Cherkis do up. First pitch. Get out to Heaton at second. That will score the run from third. Weimer scores to make it 14 to nothing. And Jepson will step in. Actually, we're gonna have a pinch hitter.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's number 15.

SPEAKER_16

Bakulskis.

SPEAKER_04

Yep, Bakulskis.

SPEAKER_05

Number 15. Bakulskis.

SPEAKER_16

Jepson's arms have got to be tired from hitting the ball so far. Legs have got to be tired from all the running. First pitch inside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, the sun's starting to go down. I mean, we're 8-15 here.

SPEAKER_16

Pitch high for ball two, two balls, no strikes. Well, with the 14-0 lead, East has.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. One thing about this, this where the baseball field is here, that that sun goes over those trees. It it actually gets darker here quicker than anywhere else.

SPEAKER_16

Yep. Two balls, one strike. One out, one run in in the top of the fifth.

SPEAKER_04

Another, another nice pitch in the outside corner with JJ.

SPEAKER_16

Two balls, two strikes, one out. 14 runs, nine hits, one error for East. No runs, three hits, four errors for the Crusaders.

SPEAKER_04

Oof, just missed.

SPEAKER_16

Just missed on that one. Brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Like we're gonna have another pinch hitter here, John. Yeah. Cam Reynolds looks like he's gonna be due up next for the Black Raiders. Caught looking for strike three. That's out number two of the inning. That'll bring Cam Reynolds to the plate. He will pinch hit for Cherkis.

SPEAKER_05

Not bad at 12.

SPEAKER_16

First pitch. Inside ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I don't get that. And then why not? That ball's on the inside corner. And because he's jammed the uh the inside of the box, he doesn't get that call. And I just don't understand that. Uh I mean you gotta be able to block out the batter where he's standing.

SPEAKER_16

Two balls, no strikes. High for ball three. Three balls, no strikes. Cook due up next. Wind up in the pitch. Bounces in there for ball four. Reynolds heads down to first base with the walk, and that will bring Cook to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

We have Cook or we have uh Pinch Hitter here.

SPEAKER_16

It's Cook. And that'll be it for JJ Hope.

SPEAKER_04

Guys looks like he's gonna bring uh show's riding Freilick, but we know that's not right.

SPEAKER_16

Not sure who number three is. It is Jonas.

SPEAKER_04

Is that Jonas?

SPEAKER_16

Sure looks like it. Looks like he's got a face guard on.

SPEAKER_04

Wow. That's awesome.

SPEAKER_16

Jonas making his first appearance as far as we know on the mound tonight.

SPEAKER_04

We've seen him run a little bit tonight. What a story. What a story, Mike. I mean, you've been more involved with this thing than than I kind of came into it during the season. But uh, I mean, what a wonderful story um of a of a young man that was uh presented some serious challenges this year.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, he uh it was a practice and one of his teammates swung and the bat slipped out of his hand and it it hit Jonas in the face. And I've I've visited with him a couple times or been around when he's visiting with other people, and he said the he does remember getting hit, which is good. He doesn't remember much of that. He the next thing he remembers is waking up in the hospital down in Omaha, and that happened on a Monday, and folks, he was back home by Wednesday. That's uh I mean he's had plastic surgery, he he's had everything else, and uh all he kept saying when he was in the hospital and when people would go visit him is the best thing that's ever happened to him was transferring to Healing. So says a lot for the Heal community. Uh the way he's you know he was embraced whenever he came over from South Sioux, and uh this is a big moment for this young man.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, nice left-handed. Oh, you just missed. Nice pitch.

SPEAKER_16

We we do have a pinch hitter. No, that cook got on.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, this is uh Charlie Carter. Yeah.

SPEAKER_16

Pitch foul back.

SPEAKER_04

So he wears that uh that mask, a little bit of a face mask on that side that he got hit.

SPEAKER_16

That ball hit well out the great effort by Nathan Gaswent to try to make the catch. He's not able to. Runner will score from first.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, great effort by Nathan, just missed it, just uh just missed the outreach of his glove.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, just off his glove.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, those guys have had a workout tonight. Him and uh especially uh especially him and Dylan.

SPEAKER_05

Nick Johnson.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, they've they've covered every inch of that outfield out there from uh uh left center all the way to the foul line in right field.

SPEAKER_04

Peyton's gonna make sure that they got I don't know if he crossed him or something, but Peyton's making sure that that Jonas has got the signals down here. There's no question that's what that was. Peyton's saying, you know what, young man, here we go. Let's let's uh let's get this guy out. Throw me some let's throw some good pictures, let's work on your fundamentals, and uh let's do some positive things here.

SPEAKER_16

Here's a pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Good pitch.

SPEAKER_16

Outside for ball one, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

That miss, it didn't miss by much.

SPEAKER_16

Pitch in there for strike one, one ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I like I like this. Uh he's got some nice velocity. He's got a nice little curveball.

SPEAKER_16

There's the pitch. Pitch is high for ball two, two balls, one strike. Three balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Gotta get come through, follow through with that. He's got that nice stride, just bring that left hand, just follow through all the way down to your right knee.

SPEAKER_16

Ball four.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, his release right now is just a little up. He's he's he's striding and he's releasing before he's coming down with that left arm.

SPEAKER_05

He's just played catch with Peyton here and two on two out here in the top of the fifth.

SPEAKER_16

East High's push two more runs across. They lead fifteen to nothing. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss, strike one.

SPEAKER_04

Boy, did that thing really have a nice break to it, Mike? Really nice break on that pitch. Back kind of a backdoor curve ball on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_16

Here's the pitch by Jonas. There you go. Drops it in there for strike three. Nice. That'll retire the side. Two runs for East in that inning. They lead 15 to nothing. We will be back in one minute.

SPEAKER_14

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic Radio Station.

SPEAKER_16

Dylan Knapp steps in. Low for ball one. One ball, no strike.

SPEAKER_04

Dylan's been swinging the bat well. Even when he's missed, I mean he sits he set some balls hard tonight. Two people, and then he's had a couple really nice hits. And there's another one that's trouble.

SPEAKER_16

That ball hit well. Oh center fielder able to come over and make a play in right field.

SPEAKER_04

Another well-hit ball by Dillon. I mean, he has been right on. You know, and then and and they're playing, like I said, they got the shift on. They're playing the ball to be hit to right field. So normally on any other given night, if you're playing regular, that's a double in between the gap.

SPEAKER_16

Absolutely. Really well hit ball by Dylan there. First pitch to JJ Hope is a strike. No balls, one strike. That pitch in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes. That ball popped out to right field. Right fielder takes one step back, makes the catch. Two outs for the Crusaders here in the bottom of the fifth. They trail 13 to 15 to nothing. Brings Peyton Erickson to the plate. That pitch in there for strike one. One ball, one strike. Here's the pitch. Outside corner strike two. One ball, two strikes. Healing down to their last strike. Should Peyton get on, Caleb Lefaver will follow. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss for strike three. And that will do it. East wins this game 15 to nothing after winning the first game 14-4. You can't really say that Heal and missed cues that Healan beat themselves. It contributed to the massive amount of runs that East was able to put on the board, but it it really wasn't the games weren't close enough to where those errors stood out and could have could have been the difference between a win and a loss.

SPEAKER_04

Uh in in that second game, or four in the second game, two in the first, right? Absolutely. So uh coach needs to take them down in the corner, and they just need to really need to go over some of the things they did good in that first game. The second game, obviously not a lot of positive things to talk about. Uh they jumped on us. We never really did threaten to score. Uh we had that one inning where we had guy on second and third with uh with with two outs and with the possibility. But other than that, I mean guys' heads are hanging. I'm watching them walk down there now. And their heads should be hanging. You should go in there and you should feel like, you know what? We didn't play good. We can play better and we need to do better. And you need to forget about it, come out here the next on Thursday night and jump all over Lamar's. We're only so we're we're only down three, we're down three games to East in a really good conference. We just need to do our job, win the rest of the games that we have in the conference, and and then maybe have another shot at them again.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, that's true. And they uh just have to you know come back tomorrow, get get some practice in, uh, regroup, get ready for Lamar's on Thursday.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. And let's not let's let's just say it for what it is. East has a really good ball club, and we'd be doing an injustice on the on the radio if we didn't paint that picture to you folks out there. They're worth watching. They they hit the ball extremely well. Um and uh they have good pitching, and they're deservingly so number one rank.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, they uh they have all the tools. They they definitely have the ability to get to the state tournament and make some noise when they get over there, and I'm sure losing in the first round in Sioux City last year at the state tournament left a really bad taste in their mouth, and they're gonna want to uh get that out of the way and and represent themselves and and their school a lot better than they did uh last year here in Sioux City. So, with that, we are gonna sign off. We will be back on Thursday from Lamar's. Pre game starts at 5 15. First pitch will be at 5 30. Thank you, Grace Todd, back in the studio for keeping everything going. And folks, we'll be back on Thursday. Thank you, Mike. Thank you.

SPEAKER_04

Alright.
