SPEAKER_08

Good afternoon, everyone. I'm Mike Skaggs, joined by John Tritz. We are here for the Missouri River Activities Conference doubleheader between the Healing Crusaders and the North Stars. These two teams met earlier in the season up at North, and Healand came away with a victory in both those games. 11-2 and 8-2.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, good games up at North, Mike. The first game was a nip and Tucker, and uh we kind of actually in both games we kind of came on late in both games, scored late innings uh to put them away. But the first game, especially, I think we were down going into the fifth inning, if I'm not mistaken.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I remember that was the week of seven games in five days, and uh I jokingly said, well, actually it was true, I got home from uh MOC earlier than I did getting home from north.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, it was a long night. Um it was a really long night. Uh, you know, I'm I'm taking a look out here at the field right now. North's taking infield. This field looks absolutely gorgeous. It's a beautiful night for baseball. The the temperature is going to be absolutely perfect. The wind is at a minimum right now. Um got two uh two good teams. North has really improved. Um got a couple kids that are just hitting the heck out of the ball, the Nillis kid and the Henry kid. Um, and they've had some solid picking as of late.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, they've uh they've given other teams in the conference fits, uh teams that are above them in the in the standings, and I know like you said, it was uh it was a battle the first two times they played. I know the final score doesn't indicate that, but it took a while for Healing to get their offense going in those uh previous two games, and fortunately they're able to get it turned around and and put some runs on the board and and put the North Stars away.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, that's it's uh it's exciting. This is the time of the year where, you know, Mike, you just gotta you have got to, at this point, uh you're in the last part of the season, um, you've got to start putting some things together. You gotta start finding your number one, two and three pitcher who's gonna get you into the playoffs and who's gonna take you deep into the playoffs. And then uh hitting wise and fielding wise, you gotta find out who who in your lineup um is hitting the ball where to put them, uh strategically, and then defensively, you just you gotta go with your with your with your best players. You know, you've got uh uh secure positions, you know, that you've been kind of dabbling with.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I agree. It's uh look at the schedule, and there's about two and a half weeks left in the regular season, and then uh the tournament trail starts, and you know, Healing's got a lot of uh a lot of big games coming up. They play East on July 2nd, which is you know a rematch from last week, and it's it's a week they'd like to forget, or or two games that they'd like to forget. So uh gotta work on some things and and build toward uh sh a better showing next time they face east out at their place.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, absolutely. Um I mean this is this is baseball weather now. This I mean it's a little cooler right today, but I mean this is the time of year that if you know kids that have been working out all year, this is the time of year you have waited for. You know, and and if you're a pure baseball uh fan like like we are, um College World Series is going on, uh base major league baseball starting to heat up, and and for Iowa high school baseball, the playoffs are right around the corner.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, they are, and it's uh it's uh the coolness of the temperatures today is obviously not indicative of what we're used to in Iowa at this time of year. So uh we're kind of enjoying that. Maybe we can even open the window uh here during the game. But it's uh you know, I was driving over here and it looked like things were gonna cloud up and we might get some rain, but things have cleared off and uh great opportunity for people to come out and and enjoy some high school baseball. And I know I mentioned it last night, uh the teammates mentoring program is gonna be selling Italian ices tonight, raise some money for uh for that great program. And so come on out if you don't have anything to do and and watch some baseball and cheer these crusaders on.

SPEAKER_14

Absolutely great program, teammates. Um any of any of you out there that would like to get involved with teammates, come out here tonight. Uh there'll be people be able to answer your questions. Just a wonderful program. And uh I think matter of fact, Tom Osborne started that quite a few years ago.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, speaking of Dr. Tom, he showed up at the uh Savannah Bananas game at Memorial Stadium last week.

SPEAKER_14

What a legend. And I'm not a Nebraska fan, but you gotta you gotta love Tom Osborne.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, he he's he did great things for that program, and I'm sure that Nebraska fans wishes he was about 40 years younger and still coaching. But uh we're gonna take a two-minute break and we'll be back with starting lineups and and get this ball rolling. So we'll be back in two minutes.

Comes into this game with a batting average of 218. Batting second, playing shortstop, will be Max Weerheim, batting average of 373 on the season. Batting third, Trey Henry, playing center field. He comes in with the 409 average. Batting fourth and DHing is Joe Nillis. He will be DHing for the pitcher, Colton McClellan. Batting fifth and playing catcher, Evan Schrunk, batting average of 308. Batting sixth, Nolan White playing right field. He has a batting average of 316. Batting seventh, Cortland Whitney playing left field, batting average of 286. Batting eighth, Tim Erickson playing third. Does not have an official bat for the season, so he's.000. And batting ninth for the North Stars is Howie McCormick playing second base. Comes in with a batting average of 269. For the Crusaders, leadoff, JJ Hope playing shortstop, batting average 395. Batting second, Tommy Carroll playing right field tonight, batting average of 313. Batting third, Brody Shaner. He will be the DH. He comes in with a batting average of 346. He will be DHing for Hendrix Heaton playing second base. Batting fourth, Dylan Knapp playing center field, batting average of 333. Batting fifth, Nathan Gaswent. He'll be on the mound tonight for the Crusaders. Comes in with a batting average of 308. Batting sixth and playing catcher, Peyton Erickson comes in with a batting average of 258. Jonas Jensen will be batting seventh and playing first base. Jonas does not have an official at bat this year, so his batting average is.000. We'll see if we can't get another one at the top of the uh state for batting average tonight with Jonas get a couple hits. Batting eighth will be Mason Moravic playing left field. He comes in with an average of 273. And batting ninth for the Crusaders will be Chase Beck playing third base tonight. Comes in with a batting average of 259. Nathan Gaswent. Starting pitcher comes in with a record of 2-2. He's pitched 16 in the third innings. Teams are batting 271 against Nathan. He's given up 19 hits, 21 runs, 12 of those have been earned. He's walked six batters, hit five batters, struck out 18, and has an ERA of 5.14. For the Stars, their pitcher will be Colton McClellan. He comes in with a record of 2-1, 16 innings pitched on the season. Teams are batting 190 against him. He's given up 11 hits, 9 runs, 8 of those have been earned. He's walked 12, hit three batters, and struck out 15. Comes in with a batting average of 3.50. Should be a good pitching matchup tonight between uh he and Nathan.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, I'm I'm really excited uh about Nathan being on the mound number one. Uh let's talk a little bit about him. Uh this is this is Nathan time. And what I mean by that, Mike, is this is the time of year we know what Nathan can do, Gaswim. We know how he can take over a game. And we're late in the season, and Nathan's got to go out there and be the Nathan that we know he is going into these last three uh outings that he's probably gonna pitch uh before playoff time.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, absolutely. He's uh struggled a little bit at times, and I think he gets a little frustrated with it and just needs to come in and settle down. I know talk to his dad, and I know you did a little bit after last week's game against East. He he seems to be in a uh a comfortable spot now as as far as he knows what he needs to do, and yeah, and you know, right now with with you know Caleb away getting ready for the combine. I mean, Nathan's the number one guy. He's the dude. He is he's the dude. He's the leader of this team now, and and he's he's taking that role and and really growing with it and and building on that. And we couldn't, you know, couldn't find somebody better uh to take that that role and and lead this team as we hit finish the season out.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And for North, uh they got the freshman kid going, McKellen, been giving him some strong outings. Uh their coach is real excited about him, and like he told me tonight, he's not a freshman anymore, basically. He's matured um and he's taken a little bit more of a leadership role. So uh it's gonna be a good matchup. Um I I'm real excited about this matchup, Mike, and and I'm I'm real excited about what some of our healing uh players have been doing as of late. Uh JJ Hope, we talked about him until we're blue in the face last night about his range, about his hitting, about his on-base percentage. When he gets on, he scores. Uh just no question about it. Um something that Nathan can really take and and what I what I think will help him relax, Mike, is that he's he's brought his batting average up. He's over 300 for the first time. And let's say it for what it is. He didn't play the field last year, only had to concentrate on pitching. Sometimes that can wear on you when you're not doing the things that you think are to help the team, and that can carry over to when you're on the mound.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, absolutely. He's uh he's really brought that batting average up, hitting the ball well here lately, and uh looking forward to him continuing that. We're getting ready for the national anthem, so let's take a two-minute break and we will be back.

unknown

Please rise.

SPEAKER_04

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

Welcome back, everyone. We are getting ready for first pitch here. Nathan's finishing his warm-ups. Healing comes into this game with a record of 17-8, 14-4 in the Missouri River Activities Conference. And North comes in with a record of 11-12 and a record of 9-9 in the Missouri River Activities Conference. So if you look at it, if you go by records, it doesn't look like it's going to be much of a uh doubleheader tonight, but it's baseball, and you know anything can happen. We saw the ball take some funny bounces last night against Harlan, and and it's we'll see how this would shakes out.

SPEAKER_14

Oh, absolutely. And and you cannot take North for granted, first of all. North has got a as solid uh probably first three to four hitters as we're gonna see all year long. Henry uh hitting an absolute uh leather off the ball. Uh Nillis leads the state and doubles, and and Loganson um just a really good uh usually he leads off and is a really good leadoff hitter that if he gets on, he's got some serious wheels. Um Nathan's just got a nip and touch, got to hit the corners. Uh look at last night, Mike. Let's talk a little bit about that. You know, Harlan came in here and and let's say it for what it is. I mean, they they beat us basically at our own game where they they just got those those little nibbler hits through the infield. I call them worm uh worm diggers, and they had a lot of them and then had some key hits. Um we've got to do a little bit better job tonight, keeping the ball down, keeping the ball low, making some plays uh that might be uncharacteristic of some of the players.

SPEAKER_08

Absolutely. Moganson steps in here for North to get things started. Healing is in their white uniforms with the blue pinstripes and blue numbers with the Vegas gold cap and the blue bill. North is in gray pants, blue top with red lettering across. That first pitch hit out the left field, Moravik settles under it for the first out. Excellent start there for Nathan. One pitch, one out. That'll bring Max Weerheim to the plate.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, uh Moravik out in the left field. He's solid. I mean, that's that's just a that's a good position for him. Um he's a steady fielder and a steady hitter.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, another thing that'll be important for Nathan tonight is to keep that pitch count down so he can go deep into the game. First pitch. Swung on, hit out to JJ Hope it's short, throws it over to first for out number two. Two pitches, two outs. That's an excellent start for the Crusaders. That'll bring up Trey Henry.

SPEAKER_14

Beautiful play by Jonas going into the grabbing that ball out of the dirt. Looked really good over there.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, he's uh he's not the tallest over there, so they kept it low, bounced it in there, and he was able to scoop that up.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, he's an athlete, though. Jonas is an athlete. Athletes make plays.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan with a long look in, steps off. Always curious to see what fingernail polish Peyton's gonna use for each game to make it easier for the pitcher to see the signs. Here's the first pitch. Bounces in there for ball one, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Man, we saw him up at north. He just got wheels, he's got a quick wrist, um, swings the bat really well.

SPEAKER_08

Here's a wind up in the pitch. That is pop down the first baseline. Jonas over. Just into the netting out of play. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_14

Boy, Jonas got a good, quick first down over there. He was at the fence exactly like you're supposed to do. You find the fence with your with your left arm, you find it and get yourself positioned. Yeah, it's his perfect job of getting over there.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan with the wind up and the delivery. Bounce out to Beck at third. Throws over. Out number three. Well, how's that for low count? Now, four pitches in the first inning, Mike. We will take that. That is three up, three down for the North Stars. Healand coming to bat in the bottom of the first. There's no score. We'll see you back here in one minute.

SPEAKER_04

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

Thank you everyone for tuning in. We're back here at Bishop Mueller Field for Healan Baseball. Bottom of the first inning, no scorers. Healan will send JJ Hope, Tommy Carroll, and Brody Shaner to the plate. JJ Hope is number two according to their rankings, and Brody is number five in the in 3A. And pitcher rankings, Caleb LaFavor is at the top.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, I mean, we talked about Caleb obviously and and uh and wish. Caleb all the all the best in his endeavors here as he gets ready for the major league draft. But it's time. It's time for the other guys. You know, they got to forget. You know, Caleb's not in that dugout right now. And new leaders got to take a step forward.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the first pitch to JJ. Hits that between first and second base for a single. First pitch swinging JJ Hope is on with the single.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, great, great job of bringing the wrist and the hands through first, taking it to the opposite field. He does that so well. Yeah, he's just a tough out.

SPEAKER_08

Obviously, it's important for healing for him to get on and get things started. Tommy Carroll will step in.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, I love this kid. Tommy Carroll is just, I mean, you put a picture of a baseball player, and Tommy Carroll's the dude, man. He he's the guy. He's solid, he's just a freshman, uh, but he does everything so fundamentally well.

SPEAKER_08

First pitch to Tommy outside for ball one. Here's second pitch. Just high for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. JJ Hope at first. Brody Shaner on deck.

SPEAKER_14

Tommy getting the signal. We got something going on probably here.

SPEAKER_08

JJ goes. That ball popped up out into right field. JJ's gonna have to retreat. Right fielder misses it. He drops it. It's off his glove. JJ, because he had to go back, is forced to hold up at second base.

SPEAKER_14

Well, there's that sun coming into play right away. It just sits up there right up above, and I think he kind of lost it.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, you could tell that it seemed a little unsettled out there trying to get under it. That'll bring Shaner to the plate with two men on and no outs here in the bottom of the first inning.

SPEAKER_14

You got to give a shout-out to our umpires tonight. Behind the plate is Kevin McGregor. Uh Sioux City works at three with some good friends of ours, Bobby Thompson and Stan Pithan. Mike.

SPEAKER_08

First pitch.

SPEAKER_14

I think that was the ball. Just misses for ball one. And out in the field tonight is Chris Robby, uh Omaha native that's came to Sioux City to do a couple games yesterday and today.

SPEAKER_08

Check of the runner at second and delivery of the plate. That pitch fouled off back into the net for strike one. One ball, one strike. He looks with the chance to make some noise here early in the contest.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, I know I don't want to take the bat out of his hands, but I really would love to see some small ball here, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

Here's a pitch. Ball hit hard out to the second baseman. Toss it over to shortstop for one. And Shaner out at first with the double play. 6-4-3. Two down for the Crusaders.

SPEAKER_14

I know I sound like a broken record when I talk about that, but you know, I mean some of your best players still should have to be able to bunt that ball. We get two guys in scoring position instead of one here.

SPEAKER_08

That brings Dylan Knapp to the plate. He'll be followed by Nathan Gaswent. Here's first pitch to Dylan. Bounces in there for ball one, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Especially with a hot hitting knap coming up to the plate.

SPEAKER_08

Swing and a miss, strike one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_14

Just underneath it.

SPEAKER_08

Comes set. And deals. Swing and amiss, strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Now keep that head in there. Dylan's uh just choke up just a little bit, protect the plate.

SPEAKER_08

Checks JJ at third.

SPEAKER_14

There we go.

SPEAKER_08

Up ball hit to the third baseman, makes a nice scoop. Yep. Throws over to first for out number three. Healing gets leadoff man on, unable to score him. After one, Crusaders zero, North Star Zero. We'll be back in one minute.

SPEAKER_04

And now back to your Crusader Sport on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

Welcome back. North will send Joe Nillis, Evan Shrunk, and Nolan White to the plate here in the top of the second. Nathan was able to get through that first inning with five pitches, so the pitch count in really good shape. North came up and swung at the first pitch, first couple batters, and uh that helped out. Got a one ball, one strike count on Trey Henry and was able to get him to ground out third to first. So need to keep that going and keep Nathan out there as long as we can.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, getting through this top of the order was huge. Uh Nathan, uh, I mean the the least amount of times you've got to see those three guys, um, and Nillis uh is another one. Um the least amount of times you've got to see these guys, uh the better off you are, and and short, quick innings is the way to do it. Yep.

SPEAKER_08

Nillis will step in from the right side and take his chances here against Nathan.

unknown

Joe, Nillis.

SPEAKER_14

We're gonna talk about the importance of Peyton Erickson here. Uh, and and this is this is Peyton Erickson time right now. Um Peyton's got to be in command of his pitchers.

SPEAKER_08

First pitch, swing and amiss, strike one.

SPEAKER_14

He he's got to start recognizing tendencies by batters. Do they stride to the plate? Do they stride away from the plate? He does that so well. And uh it's time for him to take control of Gaswin here.

SPEAKER_08

There's a pitch. Another one in there for strike two, swing and a miss. No balls, two strikes. Evan Shrunk do up next. Just starting top of the second inning, no score. Wind up in the pitch.

SPEAKER_14

That's he got him looking for strike three. And that's right there, Mike, what I'm talking about. Peyton comes in and covers that inside of the plate, the black, and that was a beautiful strike. I know Nillis didn't agree with it, but that hit the corner.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, that was a really good inside pitch. Evan Trunk steps in from the right side. First pitch to him is outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Nolan White is due up next. Delivery of the plate. Swing and a miss, strike one.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, this is where Nathan struggled a little bit against East Mike was this inside corner that he's right now has got good command of. Uh when he came in, he hit a few guys.

SPEAKER_08

That ball's popped up in the shallow center field. Dylan Knapp settles under it for out number two. That will bring Nolan White to the plate.

unknown

Nolan White.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan delivers to the plate, swinging him as strike one.

SPEAKER_14

No balls, one strike. He really right now has good command of that inside fastball. And that's just huge for the growth of him in this season.

SPEAKER_08

Cortland Whitney is due up next for the stars. Here's the pitch. That pitch fouled back into the net for strike two. No balls, two strikes. He seems to be taking his time between pitches here, too. Earlier in the season, he was he was working quickly, but he seems to have slowed things down a little bit.

SPEAKER_14

Going at outside.

SPEAKER_08

Wind up in the pitch.

SPEAKER_14

Boy.

SPEAKER_08

Just missed. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

That's a tough no call, man. That I mean that's that go either way, but uh boy. I mean, I thought he had the black on that, but that was close.

SPEAKER_08

Well, last night that definitely would have been a strike because the strike was over in the left-handed batter's box. Here's pitch. JJ, oh my goodness, JJ Hope makes a diving stop out behind second base to keep that ball from going into center field. But Whitney will reach on a single.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I'm sorry, White reaches on a single.

SPEAKER_14

If he wasn't playing him to pull, I mean he was kind of more over in the gap. He makes that play, but that was incredible.

SPEAKER_08

Man. That was some serious range right there. Yeah. How to bring Whitney to the plate. North has a runner on first with two outs. Nathan takes a long look in, checks a runner at first base. Pits to the plate. Hit out to second base. Bobbled. Whitney will reach on the air by the second baseman. So runners at first and second for North, and that will bring up Tim Erickson.

SPEAKER_14

Now just one of those routine grounders that uh I think he was trying to make the throw before he had it in his glove and just gobbled it.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan taking a long look in. Checks a runner at second and deals to the plate. Swinging him at a strike one. No ball is one strike. Here's the pitch. Pitch popped up down the first baseline. Just out of play. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, yesterday that balls all the way into the probably it'd probably be fair the way that wind was blowing.

SPEAKER_08

No balls, two strikes, two on, two out for the stars here in the top of the second inning. Bounce out to JJ at short, fields it, throws over to first for out number three. So the starters get two on in this inning, unable to push anybody across. We're gonna head to the bottom of the second. Score still tied, zero-zero. We'll see you back in one minute.

SPEAKER_11

SPEAKER_04

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

We're back for inning number two. Healing will send up Nathan Gaswin, Peyton Erickson, and Jonas Jensen. No score so far here as we head to the bottom of the second.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Nathan's been swinging such a hot bat lately. He's got his average up above 300 for the first time this year. I think he's hitting 308. Like to see him continue.

SPEAKER_08

First pitch to Nathan. High for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, that's that kind of that slow curve that McClellan likes to throw.

SPEAKER_08

Pitch number two on the outside corner for strike one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_14

Nathan's got such quick wrist.

SPEAKER_08

Swing and a miss, strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, sometimes that pitch will darn near almost be in the catcher's glove, and Nathan can take that thing to right field with such a quick wrist he's got.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_14

Like that.

SPEAKER_08

That's gonna drop out in front of the right fielder for a single.

SPEAKER_14

Perfect.

SPEAKER_08

Gaswent reaches with the base hit. Runner at first. That'll bring Peyton Erickson to the plate.

SPEAKER_14

Right, right when we say it. Yeah, exactly what he did. He waited till last minute, took that pitch right over the first baseman's head.

SPEAKER_08

Cal Geez heading out to courtesy run for young Mr. Gaswent. So I would expect that we're gonna see some action on the bases here with Cal out there. He's got some great speed. Had a nice long conversation with Cal's dad this morning about Cal's soccer season and various other things we talked about, but I always enjoy talking to his dad. And uh Cal's a great kid, great family. And first pitch in there to Peyton is strike one, no balls one strike. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_14

That's it between first and second base. That's just a good hitting, beautiful taking the ball and waiting back and getting those fists right through the to the plate and the barrel coming right behind it and taking it to right field.

SPEAKER_08

So we got back-to-back singles by the Crusaders. That'll bring Jonas Jensen to the plate. Two on with no outs.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, we got a courtesy runner over there, Mike. Uh 24.

SPEAKER_08

Um 24 on our roster.

SPEAKER_14

No. That's kind of wonder if that's one of the JV kids.

SPEAKER_08

So, parents, if your son is number 24, he's courtesy running. Sorry, we don't have a name for you. Here's the first pitch. Squares in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_14

I just want to those you gotta get it down. And uh it's a good pitch. Something's going on over here. Everybody's kind of just sitting around. I don't know what what do we uh we're back playing. Here we go.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. Beautiful bunt. Yeah, third baseman can't make a play on it. Wouldn't have been able to get him anyway because nobody was covering first base. So Jonas, that's three singles in a row, folks, and the bases are loaded for the Crusaders. That'll bring up Mason Moravic.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, he should have let that go. That thing was gonna roll foul, and uh and he got his hand out there to try to make play. And uh this is here we go. Situation baseball, boys. Bases loaded. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

What they were doing out there at second base is the same thing they did earlier in the season. It's kind of a mixed master roundabout out there where the shortstop comes and circles around second base and heads over toward third.

SPEAKER_14

Yep.

SPEAKER_08

Here's pitch. Outside corner for strike one.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, that's that's that's the old uh, you know, I got you at second, uh, but I'm gonna be covering third play. As Get Smart would say.

SPEAKER_08

Checks the runner at third. Here's the pitch. Just high for ball one. One ball, one strike. Base is full of Crusaders with no outs here in the bottom of the second.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, or uh Mason just he does such a good job keeping that chin in. He's a good contact hitter. Loves to take that ball right up the middle.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. Foul down the first baseline for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Chase Beck do up next.

SPEAKER_14

Good curve by curve ball by McClellan. Throws that in the inside corner.

SPEAKER_08

Checks the runner at third and deals to the plate. There we go. Foul down the third baseline. The count remains one ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Well, one thing Mason does is he gets great at bats. He doesn't get cheated. Um he he stays alive, he makes contact.

SPEAKER_08

Jacob Gesey at third. Here's a pitch. Oh man. That ball hit hard down the first baseline, just foul.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, he saw that all the way.

unknown

You know.

SPEAKER_14

Kind of looks like your favorite player here, Mike, with that kind of stooped up, got the left-handed.

SPEAKER_08

Don't even bring it up, John. Don't even bring it up.

SPEAKER_14

Kind of looks like a like a young Pete Rose.

SPEAKER_08

I'll almost bet you that's not my favorite player.

SPEAKER_14

Oh Mike and I love to go around and round Bob Pete.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. That pitch is high for ball two. Two balls, two strikes. I can name you a thousand different players before we get to him.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Robert got that bat choked up a little. Here's the pitch. Nice piece of hitting.

SPEAKER_08

Gets that out into the gap between left and center. That'll score Geecey. And our courtesy runner looks like Frelick.

SPEAKER_14

Oh, it is. It is. That was Ryden Frelick. That's right, and absolutely. Just got a different number.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

So Lisa and Justin.

SPEAKER_14

Now we know who it was. Absolutely. What a great piece of hit and taking that ball right in between left and center.

SPEAKER_08

Runners at first and second, no outs. Chase Beck at the plate. Crusaders have pushed two across here in the bottom of the second, and they lead two to nothing. Infield coming in just a bit. Here we go with that roundabout play out there.

SPEAKER_14

Do you think they might have listened to me in between innings, Mike? We got two guys squaring up in this inning. So uh I love it. Let's get him over to third. Get him in get him in scoring position here.

SPEAKER_08

Pitcher taking a long look. Checks the runner back at second. That second pitch in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Yeah. Did not square that time.

SPEAKER_14

No, Chase has been swinging a hot bat. Um maybe that first one was a decoy.

SPEAKER_08

Check of the runners. Here's a pitch. That ball hitting the air out to center field. Settles under it for out number one. That will bring JJ Hope to the plate.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah. Henry having some few words to Moravik, like uh, why didn't you tag up? You're afraid to check me here or test me, and I think. He wanted to throw somebody out to third.

SPEAKER_08

Come set. Here's the pitch. Outside to JJ for ball one. One ball, no strikes. He'll be followed by Tommy Carroll. Crusaders have two in and two on with one out here in the bottom of the second. Check Moravic at second. Sit out to the second baseman. Tosses over to the shortstop. And JJ beats that one out.

SPEAKER_14

They're looking over like, how's he not out? And JJ beat him out. That was a good call. You can't lolly gag around uh second base and and uh and make that throw like that over the first when when you got a guy like JJ Hop on coming down the line.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, JJ at first, Jonas at third. Tommy Carroll steps in. JJ goes on the very first pitch. So now we've got runners at second and third with two outs.

SPEAKER_14

Kind of looks like that curveball that kid was throwing last night, Mike. Looper just kind of breaks right at the last minute.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. High for ball one, one ball, one strike. Brody Shaner is due up next for the Crusaders. Here's the pitch. High for ball two. Two balls, one strike. He's not even checking the runner at third. I know if that was JJ down there that he'd be scoring.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, he's he's just he's just coming home, concentrating on the batter. I mean, you can get a bigger lead.

SPEAKER_08

And here's the pitch. Oh, he just missed. Swinging a miss. Two balls, two strikes. Two outs. Crusaders have pushed two across here in the bottom of the second. They lead two to nothing.

SPEAKER_14

Well, he takes a long time getting rid of the ball here.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch to Tommy.

SPEAKER_14

Oh, that's tough. That's going to be tough play.

SPEAKER_08

Dribble down first baseline of the first baseman. He takes it unassisted for out number three. Crusaders push three across or two across here in the bottom of the second. They lead this one two to nothing. We will be back in one minute.

SPEAKER_04

And now back to your Crusader sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

We're back heading to the top of the third. Crusaders lead this one two to nothing. North will send Howie McCormick, and then they'll be back to the top of the order. It'll be Jack Mogenson and Max Weerheim.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, let's get a chance to get some of our sponsors in, Mike and Underwriters. Um Bargain Center, Barclay Asphalt, BCU Catholic Connections, Bob Rose Point After and North End Zone, Bush Dry Cleaners, Central Bank of Sioux City and Sorm Lake, Christy Smith Funeral Homes, CNOS Dr. Ryan Meese, Council Loke Supply Company LLC, Culligan, and Cybercloak Technology LLC. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healing Baseball and Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_08

McCormick steps in from the left side to face Nathan Gaswent here in the top of the third. Here's the first pitch on the outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike. Unofficially, that's pitch number 20 for Nathan here heading into the third inning.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, he's doing a great job keeping the pitches down.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

That pitch way inside, but he swung at it. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

That's a great job by Peyton recognizing where he's striding. Guy standing right on the right on the white of the line. Throw that inside fastball.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. Just high for ball one. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Getting back to Peyton, I mean, the importance of that uh of that that catcher relationship with your pitcher and him knowing these guys. I mean, you're seeing it right now.

SPEAKER_08

Pitch fouled back. Count remains one ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

I'd come down with that little fastball in the inside corner, and he suckered for it there on the second pitch.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch by Gasland. Fouled off down the third baseline. Count remains one ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Nathan Deals. There you go, beautiful pitch.

SPEAKER_08

Swing and a miss. Strike three.

SPEAKER_14

That's that curved ball that uh he kind of backdoored it in there and caught it on the uh kind of started outside and swept the inside of the plate. Beautiful pitch.

SPEAKER_08

Strikeout number two for Nathan, that'll bring Jack Mogenson to the plate. He flew out to left field his first time up.

SPEAKER_14

He's not afraid to lay it down. He did that to us up at North.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. Outside corner for strike one, no balls, one strike. Nathan wind up and the pitch. Just low for ball one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_14

That's a good pitch, though. Curved ball outside corner, just down, but you know, normally he gets some chasing on that pitch.

SPEAKER_08

Wind up in the pitch. Fouled off. One ball, two strikes. We're heim is due up next. Nathan looks in and deals. That is on the outside corner for strike three. Caught him looking for out number two.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, curveball just caught the black on the outside corner. I know Mogenson didn't like it, but uh, I think it came across a strike, even though he might have caught it a little bit wide.

SPEAKER_08

Brings Wirheim to the plate. He grounded out short to first his first time up. Nathan Deals. That hit out to right field. Tommy Carroll settles under it for out number three. Stars go quietly here in the top of the third. We'll head to the bottom of the third. We'll be back in one minute. Crusaders lead two to nothing.

SPEAKER_04

And now back to your Crusaders courts on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

We are back at Bishop Mueller Field heading the bottom of the third. Crusaders lead two to nothing. They'll send Brody Shaner, Dylan Knapp, and Nathan Gaswent to the plate here.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Nathan, excuse me, Nathan's really got good control of his pitches tonight. This is the Nathan Gass one we're used to seeing Mike inside, outside, nip and tuck, confident in his ability to hit the black on the corner of the plate.

SPEAKER_08

He's unofficially at 30 pitches for the evening, so really good shape as we get ready for Shayner to step in here. Here's the pitch. Bounces that ball in there for one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, he turned on a couple last night against uh Harlan. Here's the pitch. Just missed it.

SPEAKER_08

Pops that out into left field. Left fielder settles under it for out number one.

SPEAKER_14

Just got it on the uh top of his bat. Didn't quite get the barrel. Uh just missed it. A little bit underneath it.

unknown

Dylan Knapp.

SPEAKER_08

Gotta bring Dylan Knapp to the plate. Yeah, just he grounded out third to first his first time up.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, I hit a rocket.

SPEAKER_08

Here's first pitch to Dylan. Squares if he's gonna bunt. That bounces in there for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Not a bad idea for Dylan. We know the wheels that he's got.

SPEAKER_08

Third baseman comes in just a little bit. Here's the wind up in the pitch. Hits that down to the third baseman again. Throw over to first, gets past the first baseman. Dylan is on his way to second. He's on his way to third. Dylan is in there with a single and a two-base error.

SPEAKER_14

Can't teach speed, Mike. He just can't teach it, and he's got it. Just took a routine out and uh and a bad play over at first into a triple.

SPEAKER_08

That'll bring Gaswent to the plate with Dylan Knapp at third base. There's one out here in the bottom of the third. Crusaders lead two to nothing, looking to add to that. First pitch to Nathan on that inside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, the pitch. It looks like it's gonna be high and it breaks right at the last minute.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan be followed by Peyton Erickson. Here's the pitch. Outside, ball one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_14

Opportunity here. Let's add to our uh run total. Hate to see us waste him out there.

SPEAKER_08

Swing and a miss for strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, he just missed it. Outside corner, good pitch by McClellan.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan singled his first time up. Swing and a miss for strike three. That's out number two for the Crusaders. Still a man at third with two outs. That'll bring Peyton Erickson to the plate, who singled his last time up.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Peyton did a really good job inside out hitting, taking that ball to right field. Been kind of uh had a had a hot bat here as of late as well.

SPEAKER_08

First pitch to Peyton. Low for ball one, one ball, no strikes. He'll be followed by Jonas Jensen. Here's the pitch. That pitch in there for a strike.

SPEAKER_14

One ball, one strike. Yeah, guys just got to keep their weight back. They're gonna get that pitch. It's a slow curve ball that just breaks at the last minute. Just got to keep your weight back and go with it.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. Outside corner for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Dylan Knapp at third base. Two outs for the Crusaders here in the bottom of the third.

SPEAKER_14

That pitch is almost automatic for him. I mean, umpire's giving him that pitch. Here's pitch. Nice piece of hit.

SPEAKER_08

Gets that out into right field. Right fielder able to settle under that and make the catch for out number three. That will retire the Crusaders. They leave a man stranded at third base. We'll go to the top of the fourth. Crusaders lead two to nothing. We'll see you back here in one minute.

Mary Queen of Peace, pray for us.

SPEAKER_04

And now back to your Crusader sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

Back here for the first game of the doubleheader between the Healing Crusaders and the North Stars. Healan leads us with 2-0, heading to the top of the fourth. North will send Trey Henry, Joe Nillis, and Evan Shrunk to the plate. This reminds me a lot of the first time they played where North just kind of hangs around, hangs around, and Healan's got two-run lead, but they've had some opportunities to really put some runs on the board and haven't been able to capitalize.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, and basically what you said is exactly what Coach McLaughlin talked about when I talked to him before the game about, you know, we're always in the game. We hang around, and sometimes we just we don't know how to finish. And for them, you know, hanging around and giving themselves an opportunity is what they want for this, you know, for this game.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, they hang around long enough, they start to really believe in themselves, and then good things start to happen. Henry steps in to lead off. He grounded out third to first his first time up. Yeah, swung at that first pitch. Here's the pitch. He squares to bunt, offers at it, does not make contact for strike one. No balls one strike. He'll be followed by Joe Nillis.

SPEAKER_14

Henry's a good looking athlete. Uh very, very fast, very athletic.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan comes set, starts his windup, and the pitch. Henry squares around again. In there for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Here's the pitch by Nathan. And that hit him.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, just got him on the uniform. Didn't uh I don't know if it actually got any of his skin, but it but definitely caught the front of the uniform.

SPEAKER_08

Well, as hard as Nathan throws if you're Henry, you're glad that's all that happened.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, you know, Nathan trying to get that inside corner pitch. He was up on a Mo-2, kind of a waste pitch. Um and we've seen that uh periodically with Nathan. He comes, tries to come in and just kind of loses the control of the ball. That's usually when he hits his batters.

SPEAKER_08

Nillis steps in. He struck out looking his first time up, time up. Henry out there at second base. He's got good speed. I would expect he'd be going here at some point. Here's first pitch. Outside, ball one, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Nathan knows he's got a dangerous runner at first base. Looked, took an extra look over there. Maybe rushed that pitch a little too much.

SPEAKER_08

Throws over, Henry back in time. I'd really like to know what Nathan what his season would be like if he was able to wear SpongeBob square pants socks.

SPEAKER_14

How do you know he doesn't have them on?

SPEAKER_08

I can see. Those were disallowed for this year, so long look in, here's the pitch. Swing and a miss, strike one, one ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, good location by Gaslin. High strike up by up by the wrist, and uh Nillis just couldn't catch up with it.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan takes a long look in, checks Henry at first base.

SPEAKER_14

Comes set, delivers the plate. That could be that ball hit out. That could be, and it is.

SPEAKER_08

And that one's gone, folks. Two-run home run for Joe Nillis. That will tie the game two to two here in the top of the fourth inning. No outs for the stars.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Nillis absolutely tagged that ball. Uh curveball right in his zone and uh got all of it.

SPEAKER_08

His dad's right down in front of us getting video of that.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, that'll make Chris happy. Chris treated us really well up there at North. Um Chris Nillis, uh the dad. So gotta give him a little shout out.

SPEAKER_08

Nice hit by his boy. His son's not treating us very nice today.

SPEAKER_14

No, no, he absolutely got all that ball. I mean, that was a no-doubter.

SPEAKER_08

Bring Evan Shrunk to the plate.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, take a deep breath, Nathan. I mean, that's that's not a big deal there. Something's going on here. Nathan looks a little upset about something, and he's looking over at the dugout. I don't know if Coach liked that pitch. Uh he's he was up on Nillis, and maybe he didn't like the pitch call, or I'm not sure. We got it straightened out now.

SPEAKER_08

There's a wind up in the pitch. And that hits him. Two hit batters here in the inning, and still no outs for the stars.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Peyton got to go out right now. You gotta go out right now and talk to him and calm him down.

SPEAKER_08

Shrunk trots down to first base. He will have Tatum Henry courtesy run for him. And that'll bring Nolan White to the plate.

SPEAKER_14

Well, where Nathan's just he's just got to take a deep breath, get back in. He's been throwing a really good ball game. And just continue doing what you're doing, nipping and tucking, inside, outside, and just play catch and forget about the battery.

SPEAKER_08

Checks the runner at first base. Comes set and square, batter squares. Bunts that ball foul for strike one. No balls, one strike. Cortland Whitney does up next. Stars have been able to push two across this inning on the strength of the home run by Joe Nillis to tie this game two to two in the top of the fourth. Long look by Nathan. Batter squares. Bunts that out. Nathan not able to field it. Nolan White will reach.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, he's rattled here. He's got they gotta come out and talk to him.

SPEAKER_08

Two men on, no outs for the stars. That'll bring Cortland Whitney to the plate.

SPEAKER_14

Good job by Peyton recognizing that. Going out and having a conversation with his pitcher.

SPEAKER_08

Stars have two runs on three hits. And two errors. Crusaders have two runs on five hits and one error.

SPEAKER_14

They give him a hit on that, or they give him an error. They gave him a hit.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan checks the runner at second base, deals to the plate, squares around.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, he did. What do we got here? The umpire wanted to call a strike, and I don't think he did. He squared on that, Mike. I yeah, you gotta I'd come out and challenge that. Yeah, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan checks runner at second base. Batter squares again. Offered at that one. One ball, one strike. Tim Erickson is due up next.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, this is a huge out. Got guys on first and second. Um we gotta force any base. I mean, this is huge situation baseball right here.

SPEAKER_08

Whitney reached on an error by the second baseman his first time up. Squares again. Pitches inside, gets out of the way.

SPEAKER_14

Two balls, one strike. I am telling you, he is not pulling that bat back. He's keeping it out there, and then the Ump's not calling it. Hump's calling a good game, but yeah, I think he's missing that one.

SPEAKER_08

A little bit of a jam here for Nate here in the top of the fourth. See if he can work his way out of it. Batter squares again.

SPEAKER_14

Foul tipped it off of uh Peyton.

SPEAKER_08

Fouls that one off. Peyton Erickson, who's walking it off a little bit. Brings the count to two balls, two strikes. No outs for the stars here in the top of the fourth. They've got two on. They pushed two across. They are tied this game two to two. Yeah, this is huge. This is just a huge out right here. Oh, look by Nathan. Here's the pitch. What's up? Pitch popped foul. Count remains two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Shout out to my little brother Jim. Listening to the game today. I should say younger. He's not smaller.

SPEAKER_08

No, he's definitely not smaller. Can he take you?

SPEAKER_14

He can take me. Okay. Anyone can take me now, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan checks the runner at second, delivers. Good pitch. Strikeout looking for Whitney. Yeah. For out number one. That will bring Tim Erickson to the plate who grounded out short to first his last time up.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, great job. Great pitch on the outside corner.

unknown

Number 23, Tim Erickson.

SPEAKER_14

Now we got a double play ball up the middle, uh, third to first. Um got so many options that we can do right here.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan checks the runner at second, delivers to the plate. That's it down the first baseline. Foul out of play for strike one, no balls one strike. Howie McCormick is due up next. Nathan getting set on the mound there. Yeah, we got a little bit of a delay here.

SPEAKER_14

Okay, we're ready to get back. Here we go.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan comes set. Checks runner at second. Here's the pitch. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

He's gone fastball, fastball in that outside corner. I'd come back in, jam him at the fist right now. I mean, he's he's just prime for it. He's seen that outside corner twice. Barely got his barrel on it. He's gonna be looking for that. I'd come back inside. See where Peyton sets up.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan Long look in he comes set.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, that's where he's going. That's where he's going inside. Yep. High and inside. Ball one. One ball, two strikes. Yeah, beautiful call by Peyton. He's just got a little bit up. He gets that thing by the fist, and he's gonna get him.

SPEAKER_08

Two on for the starters. One out here in the top of the fourth. They push two runs across to tie. That's two to two. Gaswin comes set. Delivers to the plate.

SPEAKER_07

That's beautiful.

SPEAKER_08

Hit over to Beck at third. Able to step on the base for the force out for out number two. And that will bring Erickson to the plate. I'm sorry, McCormick to the plate. So runner still at first and second for the stars. Two outs. McCormick will step in. He struck out his first time up.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Beck is so smooth with his glove over there. Had a great play. Step on third. And McCormick just stands right on the right on the white. I mean, you gotta come in. You gotta come in on the inside corner.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan checks the runner at second and deals. That pitches outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Peyton was set up in. He just looks like he just got away from him a little bit.

SPEAKER_08

McCormick steps back in from the left side. Check of the runner at second. And here's the pitch. Squares. Pops that up. Peyton.

SPEAKER_14

Good job by Peyton.

SPEAKER_08

Able to make the catch in foul territory for out number three. Starts pushed two runs across here in the top of the fourth. They've tied this one two to two. We'll see you back here in one minute.

SPEAKER_08

Jonas steps in here from the left side. He singled his first time up. Stranded at third. Here's first pitch. Inside ball one. One ball, no strikes. Here's a pitch. Outside corner for strike one. One ball, one strike. Delivery to the plate. Jonas squares. Pulls back. Two balls, one strike. Wind up and the pitch. Good cut by Jonas. Swing and a miss. Strike two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Just missed it. Keep that head in there, young man. Just pull that head just a little bit. Keep it in there.

SPEAKER_08

Drive it. Here's the pitch. Inside ball three. Brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Moravik on deck.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, good eye by Jonas. That ball's inside.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. Just gets a piece of that one. Stay alive.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Keith, get that. Tuck that chin right down into the shoulder there. Jonas, and drive that ball. Don't pull that head.

SPEAKER_08

Long look in. Starts to wind up. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Jonas caught looking for out number one. That will bring Mason Moravik to the plate. He singled his first time up.

SPEAKER_14

Back-to-back left handers, Mike. We haven't seen that in a while. Not for the Crusaders. I like it.

SPEAKER_08

Wind up in the pitch. Bounces in there for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, it's that curved ball that just overthrew there a little bit. Got in the dirt.

SPEAKER_08

Chase back is due up next. Here's pitch. Inside corner, one ball, one strike. Here's delivery. Outside corner, one ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, keep the weight back. I mean, he's he's not going to overpower you, so you can catch up with this pitch.

SPEAKER_08

And here's the pitch. Way outside, ball two. Two balls, two strikes. One out here in the bottom of the fourth. Scores tied two to two.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, he likes to throw that curveball. They'll throw it anytime. You throw it for strikes, he throws it when he's here's the pitch. Nice.

SPEAKER_08

Foul down the third baseline. Count remains. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, nice piece of hit and just missed it. Yeah, you can really catch these outfielders. They are playing really shallow.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. Way outside. Brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. One out here in the bottom of the fourth inning. Here's the pitch to Mason. Second caught-looking strike out of the inning. Two down for the Crusaders. That'll bring Chase back to the plate.

unknown

The third baseman. Number 14. Chase.

SPEAKER_14

Let's go, boys. We need to get a little pep in our step here now.

SPEAKER_08

Here's a wind up in the delivery. In there for strike one.

SPEAKER_14

No balls, one strike. We're looking at a lot of pitches. Those things, those balls are right down the zone.

SPEAKER_08

Here's delivery of the plate. Swing and a miss, strike two. No balls, two strikes. JJ Hope is due up next. Chase flew out to center field his first time up. Here's the pitch. Bounces that one in there for a ball. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Playing him straight away. Here's the pitch. Here we go. Well.

SPEAKER_08

Hit down to the third baseman. He fields it. Throws over to first for out number three. That will retire the Crusaders. One, two, three, here in the bottom of the fourth. We'll head to the top of the fifth, tied two to two. We'll see you back here in one minute.

SPEAKER_04

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

Back here, heading to the top of the fifth in game one of this doubleheader with the North Stars. North will send Jack Mogenson, Max Wirheim, and Trey Henry to the plate. They were able to push two runs across in the last inning to tie this game two to two. Nathan just finishing his warmups. Unofficially, he's at 50 pitches through three innings. Four innings, I'm sorry.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, here we go. I mean, uh, this is almost identical to the first game up at North. I mean, we're going into the uh fifth inning, two to two ball game. Uh they've hung around, hung around, hung around, and and uh basically got a zero-zero ball game we're going on right now.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, we definitely definitely can't go as late tonight as we did that night because there's no lights up here. No. Nathan Deals first pitch. Outside ball one, one ball, no strikes. That pitch on the inside corner for strike one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Nathan has to have that inside corner. Get him about bell tie. I mean, they can't they can't uh they can't catch up with that ball on the inside corner.

SPEAKER_08

That hit out there off Nathan's glove, scooped up by Hendricks at second. You're very normal 1-4-3 put out for out number one.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah. Good job by Nathan slowing the ball down, and and good job by Hendricks staying with it. Almost uh that bounce off of uh Nathan made it almost a routine ground ball to Hendricks.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, Wirheim steps in, he grounded out short to first his first time up and flew out to the right fielders last time up. First pitch to him is in there for a ball. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, we got to come back here. Uh see where Peyton. Peyton's lined up on that inside corner.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. That was good. That ball hit hard out to Carroll in right field. He makes the catch for out number two. That will bring Trey Henry to the plate. He grounded out third to first his first time up, was hit by a pitch and scored a run last inning. One of the two batters that were hit by pitches last inning that contributed to the two runs for the stars.

SPEAKER_14

I mean, huge out. We uh you get him out here, you've got two outs. Uh we don't have him leading off the sixth, which makes him just that much more dangerous when he's when he's leading off.

SPEAKER_08

That pitch inside for ball one, one ball, no strikes. He will be due to be followed by Joe Nillis, who had the home run last inning to tie this game up. Here's pitch by Gaswent. Outside corner for strike one, one ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_14

Leave that ball right there, Peyton. I don't think Henry can catch up with that on the outside corner. Yeah, that's where he's going right there. Same spot. In there for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Great job, Peyton. Great job calling that. Now he's you got him coming in on the plate a little bit. Now come back on that inside corner. Nope, going right there.

SPEAKER_08

Gasmine deals. Just outside. Ball two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Henry's took it took an extra step. Now he's coming toward the plate. Come back on that inside corner.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan with the wind up and the pitch. Gets away from Erickson, brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, curveball just missed. Got in the dirt a little bit.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. Grounded out to Beck at third. He scoops it up. Throws over to Jonas at first for out number three. That will retire the stars in order. We will head to the bottom of the fifth. Score tied two to two. We'll see you back here in one minute.

SPEAKER_04

And now back to your Crusader sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

Back here at Bitchamp Mueller Field as we head to the bottom of the fifth inning. Crusaders and stars are tied two to two. Healing will send top of the order JJ Hope, Tommy Carroll, and Brody Shaner to the plate to try to get things going and break this tie.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, get back to the last inning. Great job by Peyton coming back inside on Henry to get that last out. Got him on the fist, and exactly what we needed to do with him.

SPEAKER_08

First pitch to JJ is outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Squared around and didn't offer. Brings third baseman in a little bit.

SPEAKER_14

That's a huge out for North, I mean, and just a huge at bat for us. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_08

Hits that out to the shortstop. He fields it. Throws over to first for out number one. JJ Hope retired short to first. One out. Tommy Carroll steps in.

unknown

The right fielder. Number eight. Tommy Carroll.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, a lot like last year. Yeah. You know, we needed Wahab to get on, and when he got on, things, we were able to create things, and really important for JJ to get on and help us get things started. That first pitch to Tommy is ball one. Brody Shaner is due up next.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Tommy, just as effective way of getting on base.

SPEAKER_08

Pitch in there high for ball two.

SPEAKER_14

Two balls, no strikes. He does a lot of things when he gets on base. He's he's a smart, smart base runner.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. If he hits that any other outfielder, I don't know they're going to get to it, but you know Trey's gonna make that catch.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Trey's just got such good wheels. He had a good jump on that ball, just camped underneath it.

SPEAKER_08

Out number two, Brody Shaner will step in. He had hit into a six four three double play his first time up and flew out to the left fielder his last time up.

SPEAKER_14

Just missed it. His last one, I mean, he just missed that.

SPEAKER_08

Here's first pitch in there for a strike. No balls, one strike. He'll be followed by Dylan Knapp.

SPEAKER_14

Let's start it with two outs. I mean, you know, we talk about two out baseball right now, and we've seen a lot of it.

SPEAKER_08

Swing and a miss, strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

McLaren's not going to overpower you. He throws this curveball and he throws a fastball on the corners.

SPEAKER_08

Brody's 27 hits. Ten of those are doubles and three of them are home runs.

SPEAKER_14

So he's got the power. Yeah, when he connects, uh usually that ball comes off like a rocket.

SPEAKER_08

One ball, two strikes, two outs here for the Crusaders in the bottom of the fifth. They're tied two to two with the North Stars. Here's the windup in the pitch. He hits that out to center field.

SPEAKER_14

Oh, no, he dropped it.

SPEAKER_08

They call him out. He held on to it. They're calling it out number three. Great play out in center field. That'll retire the Crusaders in order in the bottom of the fifth inning. We'll head to the top of the sixth, still tied two to two. We'll be back in one minute.

SPEAKER_04

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

Heading to the top of the sixth inning. Crusaders and stars tied 2-2. North will send Joe Nillis, Evan Shrunk, and Nolan White to the plate. Nillis had the two-run home run his last time up, and that was his first home run of the season.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, he got all of it. I mean, that was a no-doubter. Just kind of a curveball kind of hung in there. I'm sure Nathan would like that pitch back because he was up on the count.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan unofficially at 61 pitches for the day.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, I don't think he's going to have any problem finishing this game unless he gets in trouble.

SPEAKER_08

On your standard 1-4-3 put out. And then a fly out to right field and a third to first ground out.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Peyton. Peyton's showing a little pep in his step here. He runs out there talking to his pitcher saying, Alright, let's finish this thing.

SPEAKER_08

Talk to Peyton's mom before the game. He's still undecided where he's going to go to college, but uh the she told him to have fun this baseball season and we'll figure it out when it's over. Nillis hits another one. Moravic not able to get to it, slips out on the warning track. Millis in with a double. That's a home run and a double for Mr. Nillis today, along with a strikeout looking. So the stars have something going here in the top of the six. They've tied this one two to two. And they've got a runner at second with no outs, and Evan Shrunk will step in. He flew out to center field his first time up and was hit by a pitch his second time up.

SPEAKER_14

Good piece of hitting by Nillis to stroke that thing down the left field line. No way Moravik had any chance at it. And they're going to put a little put a pinch hitter or runner in here for him.

SPEAKER_08

Tatum Henry will go in for Nillis to courtesy run.

SPEAKER_14

Here we go. And uh I'm assuming uh Coach McLaughlin's gonna play a little small ball and try to get Henry over to third base. Put the go-ahead run in position to score.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan checks a runner at second a couple times, turns and throws back to second, runner back in time.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, uh he had trouble getting his bunt down last time. I mean he was in position to bunt the last at bat and had a little trouble getting that butt. You know, barrel on the ball.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan deals with the plate. Fouls that one off, squared around a bunt, fouled it off. No balls, one strike. Yeah, again, I mean.

SPEAKER_14

Get one out. Keep the keep Henry off third base. I mean, this is a huge bat.

SPEAKER_08

Checks runner second. Batter squares again. Offers for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Nolan White is due up next.

SPEAKER_14

I'm sure Coach McLaughlin says I know what we're working on on uh on our next practice, and that's getting getting the barrel on the ball.

SPEAKER_08

Two runs on four hits, two errors for the stars, two runs five hits, one error for the Crusaders. Top of the sixth inning. Check of the runner at second. Here's the pitch to the plate. Good morning, good afternoon, and good night. That's strikeout looking, out number one. That will bring up Nolan White to the plate. One out, runner at second base.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, beautiful pitch. Outside corner, curveball.

unknown

Nolan White.

SPEAKER_14

That's the manufacture of ground ball.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan steps off here. Looks back at second. Toes the rubber.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, he's paid's coming on that inside corner. Nope. It's gonna switch it over to the outside corner. Checking the runner at second.

SPEAKER_08

Headball hit out to JJ Hope. He catches on a rope and steps on second base for the double play. That will retire the side. Great play by JJ, unassisted double play. We'll take that. Three outs for the stars in the top of the six. We will head to the bottom of the six. We're still tied two to two. Come back in one minute.

SPEAKER_04

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic Radio Station.

SPEAKER_08

We're back here for the game between Healing Crusaders and the North Stars. We head to the bottom of the sixth inning, score tied two to two. Healan will send Dylan Knapp, Nathan Gaswent, and Peyton Erickson to the plate. I know you and I talked about a little bit off air, John, but there's a proposal out there by Major League Baseball to do away with drafting high school players and cutting the draft down to 12 rounds and also drafting international players.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, I love it. I mean, baseball is the only sport that doesn't uh, you know, make uh high school seniors go at least one year of college. Um I'm for it personally.

SPEAKER_08

First pitch to Dylan in there, first strike, no balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, one thing about having Dylan up here, I know he's in our number four spot, but it's like having a leadoff guy with his wheels.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. He squares, pitch way high. One ball, one strike. Gaswent would be due up next. It'd be nice to get Dillon in scoring position, give Nathan a chance to drive in a run. Swing and a miss, strike two, one ball, two strikes. Chased a bad one there.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, you know, talking about McLaren's throwing a good ball game. He's he's he's throwing this curveball 70% of the time, and it's really frustrating us.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch high and outside. Yeah, that last one Dylan swung at it. Must have looked like a watermelon at some point and then turned into a golf ball because he was way ahead and over it. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_14

Just missed it, got up underneath it.

SPEAKER_08

Hits that one out to center field. Henry settles under it for out number one. And that will bring Nathan Gaswin to the plate.

SPEAKER_14

I mean, the guys just we just got to sit back, let the ball come to you, and take that thing to right, left field. We don't need to you know, it's it's real easy to come up to bat with a guy that throws like this and want to just clobber it, clobber it, clobber it. And and that's exactly what what his goal is.

SPEAKER_08

Here's first pitch to Nathan, outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_14

He manufactures a lot of pop-ups and the and and a lot of ground balls.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. Foul back for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Erickson do up next. Speaking of Erickson, Ethan Erickson in a wood bat league yesterday was two for four and had a home run.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Ethan. Here's the pitch. Just a great catcher, as is his brother. I mean, we've been very blessed to have just two great catchers the last four years, five years.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch outside. Brings the count to two and two. One out here in the bottom of the sixth. Yeah, he's got to protect. Here's the pitch to Dylan. I mean to Nathan. He pops that out, shortstop, runs out under it for out number two. And that will bring Peyton Erickson to the plate. He has singled and flew out to right field his two times up. Peyton also scored one of the two Crusader runs.

SPEAKER_14

That's that curve ball that he's just looping in there, and our guys are just overswinging and we're popping everything up. And we just got to be a little more patient with it.

SPEAKER_08

That bounces in there for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Jonas Jensen would be due up next. Here's the wind-up and the pitch. Just low for ball two. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, two outs here. Let's get something going with two outs. I mean, we've seen it happen several times this year, Mike. There's the pitch. He hits that out into the gap. That's gonna be a two-bagger.

SPEAKER_08

That's gonna be at least a double for Erickson. He motors into second base with a double, and that will put a runner at second base with two outs and bring Jonas Jensen to the plate.

SPEAKER_14

Well, this is Jonas's uh first really big opportunity to be a game changer, uh to have a great at bat. I mean, we got a guy in scoring position.

SPEAKER_08

Riding Frelick out there as a courtesy runner. Hi to his mom and dad and grandparents. I know they're sitting up on the hill watching. Checking the runner at second base. Here's the pitch. And there to Jonas for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_14

That was a pretty pitch. A pretty pitch on the outside corner. Would have liked to seen him take that thing to right center. Or left center, excuse me.

SPEAKER_08

Arabic is due up next. Here's the pitch. Bounces in there for ball one, one ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_14

Keep that head in there, Jonas. Get that head in there and get the barrel on the ball.

SPEAKER_08

Long look in, checks the runner at second base, comes to the plate. In there for strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, good fastball in the inside corner. Right, he's got a good lead over there. Take another step.

SPEAKER_08

Jack Frey look at second and pitches. That pitch outside for ball two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

That's good at bat by Jonas. Got him at two and two. Gotta protect the plate. Anything close.

SPEAKER_08

That pitch inside. Brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Again, Moravik is due up next. Should Jensen be able to get on.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, this is a huge pitch. Both ways. I mean, uh extends the inning for us, puts a good hitter at the plate, guy in scoring position. Here's the pitch. There we go.

SPEAKER_08

High for ball four. That'll put runners at first and second with two outs, and that'll bring Mason Moravic to the plate. He has singled and struck out looking his two times up.

unknown

Mason Moravic.

SPEAKER_14

Here we go. Bottom of the order, Mike. We talk about the bottom of the order at producing, and we got an opportunity right here for the bottom of the order to put us in a go-ahead situation going into the top of the seventh. Got a good contact hitter and Mason Moravic up to the plate. Just missed it.

SPEAKER_08

Good ball popped up into foul territory. Third baseman not able to make the catch.

SPEAKER_14

That's huge.

SPEAKER_08

Moravic survives. That's huge. No ball is one strike. And you and I have seen it enough. If you've watched baseball enough, you know how a dropped foul ball can come back to haunt a team.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, that's just a huge missed opportunity for North. And now Moravic's got a chance to make a pay.

SPEAKER_08

Pitcher comes set, checks the runner at second. Pitch high for ball one. One ball, one strike. Chase back is due up next. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss, strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

You just missed it.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, like we talked about. If you look at the records, this shouldn't have been a close game, but we all know that North is tough and they're gonna play anybody they play tough. Here's the pitch. High. Two balls, two strikes. Runners at first and second with two outs. Score tied two to two.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Ryan's got to get another step off. Another step. Get himself out there so he can score on anything up the middle.

SPEAKER_08

That bounces in there, brings the count full. Runners will be off with the pitch. Huge advantage to Healan if he can put this ball into play.

SPEAKER_14

Oh, that's I think boy, that almost looked like a balk for a second there.

SPEAKER_08

Count remains full. Pitcher comes set, checks runner at second. Here's the pitch. High and inside. That'll load the bases. Back-to-back walks. They have loaded the bases for the Crusaders here in the bottom of the six. That'll bring Chase back to the plate.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, he lost a grip on that ball when he went to throw it and was really high.

SPEAKER_09

Number 14. Chase.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Coach McLaughlin. He might be close to his pitch count, Mike. Got something going on here, Coach. Yeah, coach is making a change. Yeah, that's gonna do it for McLaren.

SPEAKER_08

Trying to see who they've got coming in. Number seven is Andrew Kling. He's one and one on the season. Teams are batting 298 against him. He's given up 14 hits, 10 runs, eight of those earned. He's walked 13, he's hit four batters, and he has struck out seven. He has an ERA of 4.67. So all we've got this change, let's take a one-minute break and we'll be back.

SPEAKER_08

Welcome back. We are in the bottom of the sixth inning. We've got a pitching change, and the bases are loaded for the Crusaders. They're tied with the North Stars 2-2. And you know, we had a in the break, we had a commercial for Sue Body. I see that George Shabonis took his son and two grandsons down to Kansas City to watch Lionel Messi play in the World Cup, and he got to see a hat trick by young Mr. Messi.

SPEAKER_14

Oh my gosh, yeah. What I mean, what an incredible show. And what is Messi now? He's got to be in his late 30s.

SPEAKER_08

I think he's as old as you and I are, John.

SPEAKER_14

Oh God.

SPEAKER_08

He can obviously play a lot better than we can.

SPEAKER_14

He'll be playing at our age, that's for sure.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, George, he posted on Facebook and said Kansas City wasn't ready. It was hard to get into the parking lot in the stadium, but it's hard to get into Arrowhead Stadium, even if you're just going to a Chiefs game. But I'm sure. But once they got in, everything was great. So glad they were able to go down and be a part of that. Chase Beck steps in. Base is loaded with two outs for the Crusaders here in the bottom of the sixth. First pitch to Chase is high for ball one. One ball, no strikes. He'd be followed by JJ Hope.

SPEAKER_14

The new pitcher is Andrew Kling. Throws a lot like McLaren. Not going to overpower you and throws that curveball for a strike. Yeah, he's gripping right now. That's what's coming.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. Yeah.

SPEAKER_14

Oh man.

SPEAKER_08

Pitch popped up by Beck out into center field. Henry over. He makes the catch for out number three. Crusaders load the bases. They're unable to push anything across. We'll head to the top of the seventh. Score tied two to two. We'll see you back here in one minute.

SPEAKER_04

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

We're back here heading to the top of the seventh inning, score tied between North and Healand, 2-2. North will send Cortland Whitney, Tim Erickson, and Howie McCormick to the plate. Shout out to Soho. They were Kelly Quinn was here yesterday helping get the concession stand ready and then turns around and serves Allison Krauss and her band last night after they played their show at the Orpheum. So just a great huge opportunity for them.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, great, just a great alum and and just a great person. Just does a great job with his business down there. Yeah, just an opportunity here for uh Nathan. Let's get us into the seventh inning. You got 7-8-9 coming up.

SPEAKER_08

That pitch fouled off for strike one, no balls, one strike. Whitney reached on an error his first time up and struck out looking his last time up.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Nathan, Nathan's been throwing real well, other than the one pitch that he kind of made a mistake there on on Nillis. Um he's done a great job. He's only giving up four hits. Really doing a good job inside outside.

SPEAKER_08

That pitch way outside. One ball, one strike. Erickson is due up next. Pitch fouled off how to play down the first baseline. Brings the count to one ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, he's ahead in the count, got a one and two. Got kind of a jittery epic batter up there. Wouldn't be a bad idea to come on the inside corner.

SPEAKER_08

Pitch is outside for ball two. Two balls, two strikes. Nathan unofficially at 65 pitches for the evening.

SPEAKER_14

I like to try to jam these guys. When these guys come up like he is, and he's got kind of happy feet, I call it. He kind of moving his feet around. Come on the inside corner.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan Deals. Beautiful pitch. That pitch breaks in there for strike three. Caught him looking for out number one.

SPEAKER_14

Or throw a curveball that sweeps that outside corner. Great pitch by Nathan.

SPEAKER_08

That'll bring Tim Erickson to the plate. He reached on a fielder's choice and grounded out short to first. His two times up.

unknown

I'm adding the third baseman. Number 23.

SPEAKER_08

Gasman delivers first pitch. Hit out to JJ at short. Scoops it up. One hopper over to first base for out number two. What a I don't know how many more times we can say it. Great play by JJ Hope there.

SPEAKER_14

He's got great range. You know, and I've I've had the privilege to watch JJ in all three sports football, uh, baseball, and hockey. I've seen him play all three. He's exceptional in all three, probably could go to college in all three. But I love him in baseball. I'm a little biased. I I just think he's just an outstanding ball player, hasn't even come close to reaching his potential yet.

SPEAKER_08

McCormick steps in from the left side. He is struck out and popped out to the catcher his two times up. Here's first pitch. Outside corner for strike one, no balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_14

We got a two and two on the scoreboard, but we know that's wrong. Yeah, come on that inside corner, he's gonna go out.

SPEAKER_08

That hit out weekly to left field for a single.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, I didn't like that pitch. I I I think we gotta jam that kid.

SPEAKER_08

That will bring Moganson to the plate with two outs. Runner at first.

unknown

Number six. Yeah.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, dangerous Jack Moganson. And let's see where Beck plays him. He's I see he always takes that look down. Kind of sneaky how he does that. He looks to see where his where the third baseman's playing him.

SPEAKER_08

He's flown out to left field, struck out looking, and the 1-4-3 put out. Here's the first pitch. Outside corner strike one, no balls one strike.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, nice pitch coming across that outside corner painting the black.

SPEAKER_08

Long look in by Nathan here, checks the runner at first, becomes set. Steps off, throws over to first base, runner back in time.

SPEAKER_14

Maybe setting them up a little bit. That quick, quick snap throw.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan checks the runner at first, he comes set. Delivers to the plate.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, should be a can of corn.

SPEAKER_08

And hit out to Dylan Knapp in center field for out number three. We're gonna head to the bottom of the seventh, folks. We're tied two to two. We'll see you back here in one minute.

SPEAKER_04

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

We are back for the bottom of the seventh inning. Crusaders and stars tied 2-2. Healing will send top of the order, JJ Hope, Tommy Carroll, and Brody Shaner to the plate.

SPEAKER_14

You know, let's manufacture a run and put this thing away.

unknown

JJ Hope.

SPEAKER_08

JJ will step in here. He is singled, reached on a fielder's choice, and grounded out short to first.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, third baseman's playing way in. JC. That's hit hard past the third baseman. Just roped it. Oh, that's going to be a double. Nope.

SPEAKER_08

JJ on with a single.

SPEAKER_14

Nope. I don't think JJ saw him bobble it. If he would have seen him bobble it, he would have been on second.

SPEAKER_08

That will bring Tommy Carroll to the plate.

unknown

Tommy Carroll.

SPEAKER_08

JJ at first base, no outs. We're in the bottom of the seventh. Score tied two to two.

SPEAKER_14

I think you gotta get him to second base, and no matter how you do it, maybe I'd love to see a bump, but a hit and run would be just as nice here.

SPEAKER_08

Crusaders with a chance to walk this one off here. First pitch to Tommy is in there for a strike. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, he's dangerous. He's got the catcher. He's the catcher is looking over there, trying to think, okay, I'm gonna waste a pitch here. Pitcher steps off. Yeah. I mean, it'd be worth a pitch out. Because you know he's probably gonna be taken off.

SPEAKER_08

Taking a couple looks over at JJ at first base. JJ not going, that's outside. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_14

Here we go. I mean, great, great situation baseball here. Each coach trying to figure out what the other guy's gonna do.

SPEAKER_08

Throw over. JJ back in plenty of time.

SPEAKER_14

We got some serious wheels on first base. Um perfect opportunity for a hit and run with Tommy Carroll, who's been just making great contact.

SPEAKER_08

JJ goes. That ball hit to the hole. Shortstop went over to cover second. JJ on his way to third. We've got runners at first and third with no outs here in the bottom of the seventh inning.

SPEAKER_14

That's just some great hitting by Tommy Carroll. He kept his weight back and waited. As soon as that shortstop took off, he because he's normally taking that ball to right field. He just jumped on it, put it right where he wasn't.

SPEAKER_08

Chance for Brody Shaner to end this game with a base hit or a long out. Coach McLaughlin out to have a conversation with his pitcher in his infield.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, and you know, and this is the opportunity that we've been waiting for. Um top of the order, JJ gets on, bottom of the seventh. I mean, we have so many different things we can do. We can suicide squeeze, we can uh manufacture a double steal, um, or just let Shaner do his job, get the ball up in the air. I mean, just so many things you can do with JJ, and because of his speed, it just gives you so many different options. Infield's coming in.

unknown

Brody, shamer.

SPEAKER_08

Shayner will step in here with an opportunity to end this game. They're gonna intentionally walk, Brody.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, not a bad move.

SPEAKER_08

So that'll load the bases. No outs.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, that's a smart move. Now you gotta force out at any base. Um they're gonna bring their infield in and everything's gotta come home. I mean, the play's gotta come home. Outfielders are coming in. So your outfielders just try to paint the pitch or the infielders around the grass on the infield. The outfielders are about uh oh, 15 to 20 yards outside uh the dirt uh on the outfield side of the grass. Any long fly ball is gonna be a base hit because it's gonna go over their head.

SPEAKER_08

No outs, base is loaded, bottom of the seventh, score tied two to two. Keelan trying to walk this one off in game one.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, you got you got the guy up that you want to have up.

SPEAKER_08

That pitch bounces in there for ball one, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_14

And Dylan's just been making great contact lately. Um that's all he basically needs to do here.

SPEAKER_08

Long look in to the catcher. Pitcher comes set, checks runner at third, here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_14

There it is.

SPEAKER_08

And Dylan pops that up into left field. We're gonna have a play. Left fielder makes the catch.

SPEAKER_14

Oh man, nice throw.

SPEAKER_08

JJ Wisely. Wisely, I say, stays at third base, so there's one out. Base is still loaded for the Crusaders. Nathan Gaswin will step in.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Nathan's got a chance to end the game for, you know, and give himself a win right here. Couldn't ask for any better situation.

SPEAKER_09

Nathan Gaswin.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Dillon just got underneath that fly ball to shallow left field. Just not far enough.

SPEAKER_08

Infield is still drawn in here for Nathan. Here's the pitch. There it is. Gets that down the third baseline. That's a game-winning RBI for Nathan Gaswin. Nathan drives in the winning run and gets the win for himself.

SPEAKER_14

Beautiful walk-off by Nathan. Just rope that thing down the third baseline.

SPEAKER_08

Crusaders will walk this one off here in the bottom of the seventh. They win this one three to two. And just like last time, it took till the very end for the Crusaders to put the game away.

SPEAKER_14

Look at that smile on that kid. Full game, finished it, and got the got the hit to win it himself. Gotta love it.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, it's been a while since we've seen Nathan smile after a game, so it's it's good to see that. But you know, North has got nothing to hang their head about. Coach McLaughlin, uh, he had a very good teacher. His dad coached over at Headed for years, and uh one of my sons played for him, and and I can honestly say he was probably the best coach that my kids had ever played for over there at Headed Baseball. Mike knew so much about the game, and he knew how to treat the kids, and he knew how to teach the game and made every kid feel important. It didn't matter if you were 0 for 20 for the season or if you had uh 400 batting average, everybody was treated the same and everybody was equal, and it was great to see.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, that's funny you brought that up because Coach McLaughlin and I were talking before the game. I I was talking to him about uh his in-laws uh Pat Pat Herbst, our soccer coach, and his wife, um, who's uh Lally. Uh any all those anybody out there that knows the Lallies, she's related to the Lallies from Sioux City. But anyway, we're talking about his his folks, his brothers, and and the Herbs, and just how his kids are just growing up with two just solid families.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, it's uh it's great to see, and and he's he's a good kid. Uh it's hard to pull against him, even when we're playing for him, because he he does everything the right way, and he's gonna he's gonna continue to build this north program, and they're gonna be a team to reckon with the rest of the season and for years to come.

SPEAKER_14

Uh how about those crusaders, Mike?

SPEAKER_08

Absolutely. Pulled off a win. They're now 15-4 in the Missouri River Activities Conference and 18-8 on the season. I don't know that we're gonna have a full 30 minutes between games, folks, because there's no lights here and want to get this second game in before it gets dark. So we're gonna take a five-minute break, and then we'll be back to babble some more between games. Hey, hey, let's get it. Oh, hold on one second. We've we've got Coach Wesselman here.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, we're gonna talk about it.

SPEAKER_08

He's a little winded. He was running up here, but we're gonna let him talk. You go ahead, John. We're gonna let him talk, and then we'll take a five-minute break after Coach Wesselman.

SPEAKER_14

Why don't you go over there, Coach? Get that headset on.

SPEAKER_06

How are we doing, Tritzy?

SPEAKER_14

I'm doing great. I'm doing great. First of all, great win. Yep. You know, uh I was talking to Coach McLaughlin before the game, and and he said the keys for them to win was was to stay within the distance so that they could actually be there in the sixth, seventh inning. And that's exactly what they did. Uh they stayed in. Um We did some great things to pull this one off. And let's talk about that seventh inning.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I mean JJ gets us going right away with a single hard hit, um, and then we just keep passing the passing the baton, right? We we get it to the next guy. Um Tommy gets on, they they put on Brody, and then uh you know Dylan flies out, um, but then Nathan comes up huge for us. He he obviously threw a complete game on the mound, uh did exactly what we needed to there, made one mistake uh in the middle innings there, slider left it up. Uh they you know they hit it out, and uh that's baseball that happens, but then he comes around and and drives in the winning run as well.

SPEAKER_14

So I was I was gonna I I saw him after that pitch looking over to you, and I'm up here because I was calling for an inside fastball up on the fist because I didn't think Nillis could catch up with it. And he throws that slider and then and he's looking over you, so I'm thinking, okay, uh he hung it. Was that what you were kind of saying to him?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I I mean that that happens, right? Just just kind of hung on and he put a good swing on it and gave it gave it a ride. So, you know, Nathan knows he he needs to be better there, but he he did he did a tremendous job. He got ahead of everybody. Um fastball was electric. Yeah um, you know, few very few free passes. Um and then defense behind him just played terrific, right? Fielded every ground ball, um, made plays in the outfield. Um catching wise, Peyton did a really good job back there as well. So, all around, really good team effort um uh against a good North Squad.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, we were talking about their hitters. They're obviously their number one through four. That's that's just some solid, some solid players. And Nathan from the get-go had control of that of the pitch, of the pitches, excuse me. Him and Peyton were were just in sync. And the importance of those two obviously growing up together, uh, they know each other. But I mean, I was almost pitch for pitch with Peyton. I could see what he was calling, and and because Gaswin had such good control of his pitches, other than yeah, I think what he hit hit the one guy in the shirt.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, hit a couple.

SPEAKER_14

Um but that's just trying to get the inside corn.

SPEAKER_06

That's just you know, and and and he knows that as well. He he works both sides of the plate, um, has a really good off-speed as well, a couple off-speed pitches. So he fills it up for us. Um Nathan did a really good job on the mound. And yeah, like you said, those two work really well. Um they grew up together um and then came over here um in in high school. So we're glad to have those two as our battery um right now. And yeah, like you said, they they work extremely well together. Um it was just just a terrific team win, right? We up and down the lineup. We had good at bats, battled, um, kind of went away in the middle innings there. Um few innings without a hit.

SPEAKER_14

But no, he was throwing that, so he he was throwing that looping curve ball, and every and you know as well as I do. Guys like that can really frustrate you because you come up there and you just want to clobber it.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, and it mess it messes with hitters timing, right? Um he he kept us off balance there in in the middle innings. Um but then we we found a way to gut it out and and get a win.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, it uh let's go to your to your hit here. We Mike and I were talking about this before the game. Uh again, another 10-game hit. Uh as a team, we have been we've really been putting the bat on the ball uh and hitting the ball uh really good.

SPEAKER_06

I mean Yep, Jared Sitzman does such a good job with the hitters. He he's so knowledgeable with with the swing mechanics, um, talks with them every single day working with them. Um he he's as a hitting staff, we're we're huge on on hitting backside, um, hitting the ball hard on the ground, uh, make them feel that anybody can catch a fly ball, right? So we we got to find a way to put the ball hard and play on the ground. Um and Jared does such a good job with them working working backside, working gaps. Um that's a big part of of what we do every day in batting practice as well. We have our rounds, um working hit and run, backside gaps, um, and and just making sure that we're we're putting the ball in play with limited strikeouts. I'm not sure how many strikeouts we had um as a team, but I can't remember, Mike.

SPEAKER_14

Do you remember?

SPEAKER_06

Limited. Yeah, right.

SPEAKER_14

Very few.

SPEAKER_06

Maybe I'm looking at one, two, three, three to four strikeouts. So that's really good, good job of our hitting hitting staff putting the ball in play.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, much more aggressive. Um I know you've got stuff to do. I don't want to keep you too long here. Thank you for coming up and talking with us. And uh congratulations on our newly engaged uh Coach Wesselman. Yeah. Gave your fiance a shout out yesterday.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, Faith is she was here, she was out in the outfield. Um, she if you look around, she's the one with the little golden doodle.

SPEAKER_14

Well, I I know the woman who's probably really excited, and that'd be your mom Suzanne.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, yeah, absolutely. And and dad Jim is is just as excited.

SPEAKER_14

We got it, we got it. It's all about the moms, and you make sure you tell Jim, your dad I said that because he's a former, obviously, you know, former teammate of mine. Yep. It's got to give him a hard time. Good luck in the second game, coach. Yeah, thank you. All right, thank you for coming up. Yep. We'll see you guys in five minutes. We're gonna take a little break here. Thank you.
