SPEAKER_02

Mike just stepped back in here. Mike, let's talk a little bit about that game. Um Heeland just uh early, looked good early, came out of the shoot, five hits in that first, I think, I think it by the second inning we had five of our ten hits, scored a couple runs, and then we kind of went a little dormant.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah, they North the pitcher really settled down and was able to keep us off balance. And uh, I mean Healing had their opportunities. They they loaded the bases a couple times uh with one out, no outs, and weren't able to get any runs across. This very easily could have been a run rule game or seven, eight, nine to two game. But North, you got to give them credit. Uh they play hard and there and made some really good plays in the outfield. You know, anything you hit in the air out to center field to Henry, it's not gonna be a base hit. He's he's gonna make the catch.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and it and and and just you know, and that can get a little disheartening. Um, you know, if you're the coach, you know, you he he's lost several games this way, so you got to go out and tell your team, hey, we we about pulled that one off against a really good healing team. Um we got to come out, and I think they got uh I'm trying to think who's pitching the second game, but uh he threw against us last time. Um who do you got? Do you have their lineup yet? I don't I don't have any lineups for the second game.

SPEAKER_19

This may this may be a lineup on the fly, this second game, folks.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'll get that in a second here when we go to break. Um the Healing bats. Uh 10 hits again. We had 10 hits last night. Uh we've been hitting the ball well. We talked about this. Um we're our bats are coming around now. Now we just got to have the pitchers uh start finding themselves, finding their zones. Nathan today, awesome job. Inside, outside, just through a great complete game.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah, great job. I made the comment. I saw his dad downstairs and said I didn't know your son could smile that big, and I haven't seen him smile in a while, so it's good to see him having fun. And you know, he aided his own cause there in the bottom of the seventh, got that walk-off single to drive that winning run in, and and hopefully that's gonna be a catalyst and uh for the rest of today and and end the next week. And you know, we've talked about it. They they know right now they know who their number one pitcher is. Yeah, they've got to find a number two, they've got to find a number three, they've got to find a number four because they're gonna need that. Uh, you know, when it comes playoff time, you're playing about every other day, every third day, and yeah, and you can't your number one guy can't go all the time, so you're gonna have to find kids that can step up and and fill that role as the number two because nobody knows what what's the rest of the season is gonna hold for Caleb.

SPEAKER_02

No, no, and and we don't know if he'll be back um by the end of the season. We just don't know. So you you got to go in with the mindset that he's not gonna come back. And and we got the pitcher uh in Dylan Knapp coming in here, who in my opinion has been extremely consistent, one of our more consistent pitchers, and has probably worked him into himself into the number two uh position and uh three for sure, but I think he's probably worked himself into the number two. He's been consistent, um, keeps the ball around the plate. Uh he might give up a run or two, but always is battling and always has seems to find a way to get out of an inning.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah, I would agree with you as as him being the number two, and that's not to take anything away from Aiden Lafebre or any of the other pitchers. You know, Aiden still he's in that transition between eighth and ninth grade. He's got good stuff. Yep. Uh he's still young and it needs a little bit more experience before we get to the playoffs. So he's he's ready and he's battle tested. I mean, that that'd be a huge ask for an incoming freshman to you know start game one or game two of the uh the state playoffs. So he's gonna grow, he's gonna get better, he's got a great breaking ball, and uh, you know, looking forward to seeing how this pitching staff is gonna come together and and carry this team the rest of the way.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, this will be a this will be a huge game for the Crusaders to get a sweep here uh going into next week, uh down at the crunch time, and when we got four games coming up against some extremely tough competition in in the conference in East High School and Abraham Lincoln. And uh AL, especially we lost two one-run games to them, and uh I'm sure our guys would love to sneak one, possibly two away from East, you know, out at East next week. Or in a couple weeks here.

SPEAKER_19

They'd be able to get one if if not two from them. It'd be nice. Uh, you know, East, they almost lost last night, or you know, uh Tuesday night, I guess. So I they're beatable, they're a very good team. They're beatable. Everybody in the conference is looking up at them in the standings. They've only got one loss, and everybody's trying to catch them. And uh not saying it's impossible. I I don't think that's gonna happen. I don't think anybody's gonna be able to catch them with with so few games left, but it doesn't mean that you can't play and you know, continue to play and play hard because these teams they they want to get a chance to play a home game in the in the playoffs. They don't want to have to go on the road and and have to go to enemy territory and and try to win a game. So learning North learning from you know what they went through this game here, and you know, they're just they're they're kind of the hard luck team in my mind of the Missouri River Activities Conference because they've always been so close to getting a win against teams that are are more talented than they are, but they've got a lot of heart, and I you know I've said many times, I'll take nine kids with heart over nine kids with talent.

SPEAKER_02

And they're they're right on the cusp of breaking through, and I'm just glad it didn't happen against us in game one.

SPEAKER_19

So yeah, absolutely. If if teams want to get their shot at North, they better do it now because like I said earlier, Coach McLaughlin is he's gonna build this program the right way, and he's gonna get kids uh playing his kind of ball, the kind of ball that he grew up learning from his dad, and and they're they're gonna take their licks now, but they're gonna be handing it out uh over the next few years.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I think we should take about a let's take a two-minute break, Mike, and come back. I'll go grab the lineup cards for the next game and and uh and we'll get going. Maybe grab a hot dog.

SPEAKER_19

Sounds good. Thanks everybody for listening, and we'll see you back here in two minutes.

SPEAKER_19

Welcome back everybody to Bishop Mueller Field. We're still waiting to get Game 2 started. The coaches are out having their meeting with the home plate umpire, going over ground rules and different things like that. Like to give you an update. Our next radio broadcast will be Tuesday, June 23rd. The Crusaders will take on Sioux City West at Bishop Mueller Field. Game times will be 4 and 6. Pregame show will be 3.45. And then on Thursday, the Crusaders will travel to Sergeant Bluff, where they will take on the Warriors. Game times 5.30 and 7.30. Pregame for that first game will be 5.15. And then Saturday the 27th, Healan will face Carlisle. We will not have that game on the radio. That will be over in Des Moines, they will also face Dallas Center Grimes. So some big games coming up for the Crusaders over the next couple weeks. And it's been a while since I talked about this. But if you have gently used uniforms, uh sporting equipment, anything like that, if you want to drop it off at Healing each day, Monday through Friday, between 9 and noon, they'll gather all that stuff up and get it ready. And then I believe it's on August 12th. They'll have an open house, and anyone can come in and they can find stuff. They can find athletic equipment for their children, they can find uniforms, whatever they need that has to do with Bishop Healing. And there's no charge whenever you show up on that that Tuesday night. Kind of a little update on Caleb Lefaver. I talked to his parents last night, and he will head out this Sunday night, I believe. He'll head out to Arizona with his folks and spend an entire week out there at the Major League Combine. He's gonna be doing a lot of workouts, meeting with a lot of people, uh networking, and having some interviews with with uh professional baseball teams. And between games here, we've got Coach Osborne. He's gonna throw out the ceremonial first pitch, and he's out there now getting ready to tow the rubber, and we're gonna see if he's got a better arm than Mr. Flannery last night, who way outside and bounced it in there. So coach is getting ready to start his wind up. You can tell by his body language that he's ready to fire one in there to Peyton Erickson. They're giving a little bit of a read about Coach Osborne and all he did for this program over the years. Wants to make sure Peyton's ready, he throws it in there, fires a strike. Good one there by Coach Osborne. So good to see him back out here. I visited with him uh a couple weeks ago on the radio, had a great interview, and he and his wife were down in Omaha on Friday night watching North Carolina and Old Miss play at the College World Series. His wife was latched on to North Carolina, she's a fan of theirs, and Coach Osborne was he had a soft spot in his heart for Old Miss because of Bertie Schreiber, who who played there at one time. So uh hope they enjoyed the games down there, and it's been a it was a great week at the College World Series, and the finals will start on Saturday. It'll be North Carolina taking on the Oklahoma Sooners. Let's go ahead and take a two-minute break, and we'll be back to get this game started.

SPEAKER_16

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic Radio Station.

SPEAKER_19

We are back at Bishop Mueller Field. First pitch of game number two. Moganson for North steps in. Dylan Knapp is on the mound. Mogansen fouls that first pitch off for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good first pitch by Dylan. Curveball in the outside corner.

SPEAKER_19

Dylan looks in, starts his wind up in the pitch. And that hits him. Moganson reaches first on the hit by pitch.

SPEAKER_02

That was a vintage curveball that did not break, Mike. And I think he's trying to curve that on the inside corner.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah, there was definitely no break there. We're heim will step in. He'll be the pitcher for North in this game.

SPEAKER_02

Get some of those burgers. They are just excellent.

SPEAKER_19

Dylan deals to the plate, pitches outside. Werheim square to bunt, pulls back. Trey Henry do up next.

SPEAKER_02

You know, we've seen Dylan start out like this. I mean, he he gets himself in some situations and then ball hit down to Beck at third base.

SPEAKER_19

Throws over. Jonas able to reach up and snag that for out number one.

SPEAKER_02

How impressed have you been with Jonas at first base today, Mike?

SPEAKER_19

Moganson able to get over to second on that fielder's choice. Yeah, that was uh Jonas isn't a tall kid, but he was able to he didn't even have to jump. He just reached way high and was able to get that.

SPEAKER_02

Nice quick. He he he he's got a great stretch from first. He he's dug three out of the dirt so far. I mean, just just playing a solid first base today.

SPEAKER_19

Henry steps in. Dangerous, dangerous hitter. And he's hit by a pitch.

SPEAKER_02

Same pitch. Uh Dylan's trying to get control of that curveball.

SPEAKER_19

So two hit by pitches here in the inning puts runners at first and second with one out. That'll bring Nillis up, who homered in game number one. Definitely don't want to see that again.

SPEAKER_02

No, a smart move by Peyton. Peyton going out there talking to him. And I think Peyton's seeing something with his grip uh on that curveball, and I think that's why he went out there. And just a dangerous hitter hitter in Nillis, and you gotta keep the ball out of his out of his wheelhouse.

SPEAKER_19

Don't check the runner at second. Here's the pitch. He hits that hard out to left field. Moravik over to make the play, gets past him. One runner will score. Two runs will score. Nilis into second base. One of the North runners even stepped out of his shoe. He was going so fast.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that ball got underneath the glove of Moravik. Uh I think he tried to dive to stop it, and it went underneath and rolled all the way to the fountain.

SPEAKER_19

That will bring Shrunk to the plate. Runner at second base early in this game, top of the first one out. Crusaders trail two to nothing.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, this is huge right now. Dylan's gotta he's gotta, you know, put the water on the fire right now. Uh get out of this inning. Um two runs is nothing. We can come back on that.

SPEAKER_19

There's the first pitch. That hit out that hit. Yep. That hit the runner.

SPEAKER_02

That hit. That's a dead ball. Should be a dead ball. Ball hit the run. The guy from second was coming, Nillis was coming across to third base, and the ball hit him as he was running, so he's automatically out. It's a dead ball, and uh the guy gets first base, so he should be on first. Oh, they're doing the bench runner, okay.

SPEAKER_19

Bring us a courtesy runner in, Tatum Henry will come in to run for Shrunk on that. That will bring White to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

That's really important for Dylan right here to get out of the setting. Stay composed.

SPEAKER_19

Dylan checks the runner at first. Hit pass Geese at second base. Out into center field, Tommy Carroll feels it, gets it back in.

SPEAKER_02

Boy, that looked just like all those hits we saw last night. Just those those bleeders that just get through uh a nice hard-hit ball in the infield, but just out of the reach of Geezy, and and uh he as he was playing a little more over toward the first, uh, and rightfully so because he's uh he doesn't he doesn't pull the ball.

SPEAKER_19

Whitney steps in. Two in, two out, two on. Stars lead two to nothing. We're just in the top of the first. Here's the first pitch. That's in there for strike one. No balls one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Good pitch by Dylan on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_19

Umpires asked between games how they did, and I said, You guys did great, and he said, Is that what you said on the radio?

SPEAKER_02

Didn't you tell him I said, Yeah, you only missed uh five or ten. I'm not gonna make them mad.

SPEAKER_19

Oh that ball hit past a diving geese at second base.

SPEAKER_02

Oh man.

SPEAKER_19

Bobbled out there in center field by Carroll. Allows White to go to third. Shrunk scores, that makes a score three to nothing. North Stars here in the first inning.

SPEAKER_02

Well, that hit was almost identical to the one right before him. I mean, ball hit just out of the reach of DC. Um, and then Tommy coming up uh thrown to try to make a play at home and just bobbled it.

SPEAKER_19

That'll bring Erickson to the plate. We've got runners at first and third with two outs. North Stars have three runs in here in the top of the first inning. Here's a pitch by Dylan. That pitch fouled off out of play, strike one, no balls one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, North's come up here swinging and and and very aggressive on the first two, you know, the first two pitches he's throwing to every batter they've been swinging. So they've obviously done their homework and they know that Dylan likes to keep the ball around the zone and that they're gonna get something to hit.

SPEAKER_19

Dylan deals to play runner at first goes. Throw down to second. Not in time. Runner will score from third. Will make the score four to nothing here in the top of the first. Runner at second base. No balls. Two strikes. The count to Whitney. I'm sorry, to Erickson. Dylan looks in. And deals. That ball bounced back up to JJ at short. Fields it. Throws over to first for out number three. North Stars able to put four runs on the board in the top of the first inning. We'll go to the bottom of the first. Stars lead this one four to nothing. We'll be see you back here in one minute.

SPEAKER_16

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_19

Back here, heading to the bottom of the first inning here in game number two. If you weren't with us earlier, Healing won the first game 3-2. Complete game by Nathan Gaswent, and he also had the walk-off base hit to win that game. For North here in the second game, Max Wirheim is on the mound. He started four games. He's got a record of three-two. Teams are hitting 299 against him. He's given up 29 hits, 14 runs, 13 of those earned. He's walked four batters, he's hit two batters, and he's got 22 strikeouts. ERA of 3.79. Game number two batting order for the Crusaders, pretty much the same as the first one. JJ Hope leading off, playing shortstop. Tommy Carroll slides over to center field, batting second. Brody Shaner will be batting third and DHing. He'll DH for Cal Geecy, who will be at second base this game. Dylan Knapp will be batting fourth, pitching. Nathan Gas went right field, batting fifth. Peyton Erickson at catcher, batting sixth. Jonas Jensen at first base, batting seventh. First pitch to JJ inside and a strike. No balls, one strike. Batting eighth. Mason Moravic playing left field and batting third. Or ninth in bat playing third base is Chase Beck. Here's the pitch to JJ. He fouls that off toward the heel and dugout. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, North came out and just jumped on us on that first inning. Couple miskews. We just need to. There we go.

SPEAKER_19

That pitch way outside to JJ. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

We just need to manufacture one run at a time. We're going to get our chances on this guy. He doesn't, he's not going to overpower you. He throws strikes. We're going to get pitches to hit. Just one run at a time.

SPEAKER_19

Here's the pitch. JJ fouls that down toward third base. Count remains. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he he definitely is not going to overpower you. He throws about the same speed as that second pitcher in the last game. We just need to dig in, keep our weight back, and take what he gives us. He likes to throw that curveball. It kind of stays high and then breaks at the last minute. Take that thing to right field.

SPEAKER_19

Werheim looks in, starts his wind up. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_02

Just like that, Bo, just missed it.

SPEAKER_19

JJ reaches out, able to make contact and foul that off. Keeps the count at one ball, two strikes. Here's the pitch by Wehrheim. JJ pops that up on the infield. First baseman over, makes the play for out number one. And that will bring Tom Carroll to the plate.

unknown

Centerfielder, number eight. Tommy Carroll.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Tommy's been solid. Kind of moving around. Got him in center field this game.

SPEAKER_19

That first pitch to Tommy outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Really be nice to get a run or two here in this inning and cut into that lead. Tommy pops that foul down the first baseline. First baseman working to settle under it. And he's able to make the catch for out number two. First baseman for North is busy this inning. He's been involved in the first two outs, and that'll bring Brody Shaner to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, both our guys have been sawed off a little bit, right at the handle. Kind of lazy fly balls over there to first base.

SPEAKER_19

Crusaders 18-8 on the season, 15-4 in the Missouri River Activities Conference after game one win. Here's the pitch. Inside for strike one or ball one. One ball, one strike. Dylan Knapp do up next. Here's the pitch. Hit hard past the third baseman.

SPEAKER_02

That could be trouble. See if he can get double on that.

SPEAKER_19

That's going to be two for Brody. He slides safely into second base.

SPEAKER_02

That's a good call. That's a good call. He's underneath that tag. Great, great, great aggressive running by Brody and uh good play by the left fielder getting that ball in. That was a bang banger.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah, he had to go a long way to get to that ball. So it's good arm, good throw into second base, and that was close. That'll bring Dylan Knapp to the plate. Dylan on the mound this for this game for the Crusaders. He's got a chance to help his cause with the base hit and try to drive a run across.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, like I said, we only need to give one at a time. Uh we got seven innings to do it, and we're gonna get plenty of chances against against this guy.

SPEAKER_19

Gonna head out and have a conversation.

SPEAKER_02

Well, he knows Dylan. Dylan's a contact hitter, and he's been has been uh swinging uh you know a pretty aggressive bat as of lately. He's been hot, um, and he knows that. And he's talking to the catcher about hey, we got first base open here. We don't need to get crazy and give him something too good to hit.

SPEAKER_19

We're heim looks in, checks the runner at second base, and deals to the plate. Low and inside for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Gas win is due up next.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Dylan, like you said, has a really good chance here to do something, help his cause.

SPEAKER_19

Here's a pitch. Pitch drops in there for strike one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Well, this is deja vu, Mike. That's that hanging curveball. Uh it looks almost identical to McLaren's in the first game.

SPEAKER_19

Checks the runner at second, deals to the plate. That bounces in there for ball two. Two balls, one strike, two outs. Runner at second base, Crusaders trail four to nothing here in the bottom of the first inning.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, two outs. Uh what do you do with two outs? Situation baseball. Um got a guy out there at second base, getting a good lead. Here's the pitch. That's a nice hit.

SPEAKER_19

Oh, second baseman able to get over and make a great play on that.

SPEAKER_02

Wow, great play by the second baseman.

SPEAKER_19

Dylan out, second to first for out number three. Crusaders get a man on second. They leave him stranded. We head to the top of the second inning. Crusaders trail four to nothing. See you back here in one minute.

SPEAKER_12

SPEAKER_16

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_19

We are back. Crusaders trailed this in four to nothing in the top of the second. North sent eight batters to the plate in the first inning, was able to score four runs. They will send the nine, one, and two hitters to the plate. McCormick, Mogenson, and Weirheim.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's important here. This is an important inning for Dylan. You got to stay the course. Get out of this inning. Keep them down to four runs. Our bats are going to come alive against this guy. He's throwing strikes, throwing pitches we can hit, and we'll we'll manufacture some runs. But the main thing is we got to keep it right here.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah, we can't afford to get any farther behind. And McCormick steps in here from the left left side of the plate. Dylan starts his wind up, delivers outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, nice pitch by Dillon.

SPEAKER_19

Second pitch. That pitch is popped up out into left field. Moravic back. Gets under it for out number one. So McCormick flies out to left field, and that will bring Moganson to the plate. He was hit by a pitch his first time up and scored a run.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and he was way ahead on Mogenson when he hit him. Dangerous, dangerous uh player. Uh he'd want to get him, keep him off the bases. Ooh, just about got him again.

SPEAKER_19

Pitch high inside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he wants to come on the inside corner on them and and uh just getting away from them a little bit.

SPEAKER_19

Pitch by Dylan in there for strike. One ball, one strike. Wehrheim is due up next.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I like the location. Coming on the inside corner. That's that square. He tried button.

SPEAKER_19

One ball, two strikes. One out here in the top of the second. North Star's lead, four to nothing. Dylan delivers to the plate, bounces that one in there. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'd like to see him come back on that inside corner.

SPEAKER_19

There's a pitch. Hit out to Geecy at second base. He feels it cleanly, throws over to first for out number two.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, one thing we know that Cal has, Cal has some serious range over there at second base. He's got a great first step, and we know we know how fast he is. He's got some some great wheels, so he can cover a lot of ground.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah, it's good to see him out there at second base. Weirheim steps in. He grounded out short to first his first time up. Here's the pitch. Line just out of reach of Cal at second base. Weirheim on with the single, and that will bring Trey Henry to the plate. Hit by a pitch his first time up and also scored a run. Two outs, one on for the North Stars here in the top of the second inning.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you got to be really careful with Henry. Um me, myself with him, I like working him on the outside. He likes to uh he likes to quick step and stride toward third base normally, um, which leaves that outside corner uh on the black of the outside corner leaves it wide open.

SPEAKER_19

Taten Kinneman, courtesy runner out there for Wirheim at first base.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's where he's setting up.

SPEAKER_19

Dylan bounces that first pitch in there for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Dylan checks runner at first, deals that pitches outside for ball two, two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Dylan's really trying to get to that outside corner, and it's just overthrowing a little bit.

SPEAKER_19

That pitch low and outside, ball three, three balls, no strikes to Henry. Nillis is due up next. Nillis doubled his first time up, drove in two runs. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_02

That's down the line. Yeah.

SPEAKER_19

That hit was down the line by Henry. Moravic scoops it up, able to get it in.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good job by Moravic getting to the ball quick and and uh keeping keeping that guy at second base.

SPEAKER_19

Well, here comes Nilis. Very dangerous hitter, Homered in the first game. Drove in both North High runs and has a chance here to do some more damage to the Crusaders. Doubled in the first inning and drove in two runs in this game.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's definitely added to his uh state leading doubles. He's had two, what, three? Uh three today, I think. Or is he just I think he just had that was his second one.

SPEAKER_19

Runners at first and second for the stars with two outs.

SPEAKER_02

Huge bat. Gotta keep keep Nilis off the bases. Get that third out.

SPEAKER_19

Check the runner at second. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_02

Hey, that thing might come back. Nope.

SPEAKER_19

That pitch fouled off. That's some serious English on it.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my gosh, that's the end of the bat with like a cue ball. Heading down to first base and almost wiggled its way back in.

SPEAKER_19

So no balls, one strike to Nillis. Shrunk the catchers do up next. Dylan checks the runner at second base, deals to the plate. That looped out. JJ Hope makes a leaping catch out there for out number three. Stars get two runners on, not able to push anything across. After an inning and a half, stars lead four to nothing. We'll see you back here in one minute.

SPEAKER_19

We're back, game number two between the Crusaders and the North Stars. We're headed to the bottom of the second. Crusaders trail this one four to nothing. They'll send the hero of game one, complete game winner, and had the game winning base hit. Nathan Gaswent, Peyton Erickson, and Jensen to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

That's a good chance. Get you just some quick uh supporters of Bishop Heel and Baseball, Heinemann Family Dentistry, I'm on communications, J and J coins and collectibles, Jimmy Johns and Keller Williams real estate agent Tammy Bertrand.

SPEAKER_19

First pitch into Nathan in there for a strike. No balls, one strike. One ball, two strikes. That was close. That was borderline. Here's the pitch to Nathan. Way outside. Ball two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's got to protect. Takes a little step toward the plate. Just missed it. Just underneath it.

SPEAKER_19

Pops that one out between first baseman gonna take charge of it. Able to make the play for out number one. Three of the four outs. First baseman is he's been actually been involved in all of them, but he's had three pop-ups over his way.

SPEAKER_02

Well, that one should have been the second baseman's, but he had a beat on that right when he hit it, and he wasn't giving up on it. He said, That's mine. Get out of the way.

SPEAKER_19

That will bring Peyton Erickson to the plate. Wind up in the delivery. Here's pitch. Outside corner, strike one, no balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he loves to throw that curveball, just loops in there, caught that outside corner.

SPEAKER_19

Again, if you're just joining us, the Healing Crusaders won game one, three to two. And they currently trail this one four to nothing. Peyton hits that out to the shortstop, throws it over to first base for out number two, and that will bring Jonas Jensen to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, this is an opportunity for Jonas. He's gonna get some good pitches to hit. Opportunity for Jonas to get going. Uh secure his position over there at first base.

SPEAKER_19

That pitch in there for strike one. No balls, one strike. Moravic would be due up next. Here's the pitch. High for ball one, one ball, one strike. Thanks to Grace Tot back at the studio for keeping us on the air and keeping everything running smoothly. We appreciate all that she does. And Jack Stevens, when he's out here taking pictures for Facebook and Siouxland Catholic Radio. Hi to Ann Reed. We know she's listening, making sure that John and I are doing things right. Tim Swedeen. Tim Swedeen, absolutely. We know Tim's out there listening. That ball bounces in there. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we couldn't work for a better group of people, Mike. And giving us the opportunity to do this is just dicing on the cake.

SPEAKER_19

Tim must be on vacation because we haven't seen him at the ballpark in like a week. That'll retire the Crusaders in the bottom of the second. We will head to the top of the third. North Stars 4. Healing Crusaders nothing. We'll catch you back here in one minute.

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_19

Welcome back. We are headed to the top of the third inning. North Stars lead this one four to nothing. They will send Schrunk, White, and Whitney to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Opportunity again here to get a few more sponsors in uh Cruise Financial Group, Lawler Fixtures, Liberty National Bank, Lightform, Modern Day Parish, McClintock Insurance, Meyer Brothers Funeral Home, and Mills Shellhammer and Pitts. Thank you for supporting Bishop Healing Baseball and Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_19

Shrunk reached his first time up on that awkward play where Nillis was hit going from second to third and dead ball. Nillis was out, and Shrunk was awarded first base. That ball hit out to JJ at short. Fields it cleanly. Over to Jonas at first base for out number one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good play by JJ. Ball hit right to him. Almost identical spot that he at uh that he hit the first time up at up the plate. He hit it right in about the same spot, only it hit the batter or hit the runner.

SPEAKER_19

That'll bring Nolan White to the plate. He singled his last time up and scored a run. Pitch by Dylan. Swing and a miss, strike one. No balls, one strike. Pitch. Outside corner, strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Dylan's finding his zone. He's finding his spots. Uh Peyton, they're on the same page. And he's moving quick like he normally does.

SPEAKER_19

Whitney do up next. Dylan steps off. Collects himself. Here's the wind up and the pitch. Pitch outside for ball one. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I just overthrew that one just a little bit, uh, trying to aim for that outside corner. Just got away from him.

SPEAKER_19

Whitney steps back in. Dylan starts his wind up, delivers. Another pitch outside. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no harm, no foul. Just a good waist pitch. Back even on the count.

SPEAKER_19

Pitch by Dylan. That's a swing and a miss for strike three. Out number two and inning number three. That'll bring Whitney to the plate. He singled his last time up and was stranded at second base.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Dylan's really doing a good job finding his finding his zone.

SPEAKER_19

That pitch popped up out of play foul for strike one. No balls, one strike. Erickson would be due up next. Dylan Deals. Pitches outside. One ball, one strike. There's the pitch. Dylan working quickly. Hits that out to JJ at short. JJ feels it. Throws over to Jonas at first for out number three. That will retire the stars in order in the top of the third inning. We'll head to the bottom of the third. We'll be back in one minute.

SPEAKER_16

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_19

Welcome back, everyone. We are heading to the bottom of the third Crusaders trail this one four to nothing. They will send Mason Moravic, Chase Beck, and JJ Hope to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Well, it sounds like runs to me, Mike. I mean, he's throwing first pitch for a strike every time. Uh except for that one, right? It has a little high ball one on Moravic, but we got to be aggressive at the plate.

SPEAKER_19

Pitch outside for ball two, two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Moravik always has good at bats. Uh even when he's out, he usually takes it the full count. Always gets a good look.

SPEAKER_19

Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. Two balls, one strike. Other than the double by Shaner, Healand has not been able to get a runner on base this game.

SPEAKER_02

No, no. And uh, I mean they didn't they didn't put a hit up there for us, but I know we I know we got a double on that one.

SPEAKER_19

There's Mason pops that one out to second base. First baseman's coming over to take control again. He must not have a whole lot of confidence in his other infielders.

SPEAKER_02

He does not have confidence in the second baseman because he's taking charge from the get-go.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah, he was virtually all the way over to second base by the time he he made that catch. That'll bring Chase Beck to the plate. He'll be followed by JJ Hope. We're in the bottom of the third. Crusaders trail this one four to nothing.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we're just a little overanxious on this guy. There's another fly ball.

SPEAKER_19

That pitch popped up down the first baseline. First baseman over trying to settle under it. He makes the catch in foul territory for out number two.

SPEAKER_02

Gosh, how many is that for him?

SPEAKER_19

One, two, three, four, five of the eight outs have been pop-ups to the first baseman.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we're we've got to be a little more patient, keep our weight back, and drive that ball. And we don't you don't need to you know take it out of the ballpark. You just need to get a nice little single in between the gaps.

SPEAKER_19

JJ steps in. First pitch to him is low and inside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

You know, take what the pitcher gives you, take it to the opposite field. Um he's gonna give you a strike around the zone. That's that pitch right there. That pitch in there for a strike. One ball, one strike. That's the one that's been getting us that curveball just loops it in there on the inside corner.

SPEAKER_19

Werheim with the wind up and the pitch.

SPEAKER_02

That's gonna be trouble.

SPEAKER_19

JJ bounces that out. First baseman or shortstop is able to make the play over to first for out number three. Crusaders go quietly in the bottom of the third inning, one, two, three. We'll head to the fourth. North Stars lead four to nothing. We'll be back in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_17

SPEAKER_16

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we got to get through this inning. We have yet to jump on the North pitcher. We're getting pitches to hit. We just got to be more aggressive when we come to the plate and just jump on that first pitch. And he's given it to us. He's throwing right across. And we're just we're just, you know, we're not aggressive enough yet. We will be. We got plenty of time.

SPEAKER_19

First pitch in there for ball one. That ball hit out to Carroll in center field, tries to make a diving catch, not able to hang on to it. So Erickson reaches on the single, and that will bring McCormick to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, McCormick likes to stand on the plate. Comes in. Number three. We went to the outside corner with him last time, and he poked that thing out in the left center. I think he got to come in. I don't think he can catch up with it. And I don't think he's going to swing at that inside pitch.

SPEAKER_19

Here's the pitch. Outside corner strike one. No balls, one strike. Dylan strikes a runner. Here's the pitch. Swinging a mess. Strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's that inside corner pitch. Down right at the knees. He struggles with that. He strides away from the ball.

SPEAKER_19

Dylan Deals. That ball hit out center field. Tommy Carroll racing back. Able to get under it to make the catch for out number one.

SPEAKER_02

Carried a little farther than I thought. Tommy's playing a little shallow, but that thing still carried.

SPEAKER_19

Erickson remains at first base. That'll bring Moganson to the plate.

unknown

Yeah. Moganson.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they're back at the top of the lineup. It's extremely dangerous here. And Moganson will look down and see what Chase Beck's doing. Tried to lay one down the last time.

SPEAKER_19

Here's the pitch. High for ball one. One ball, no strikes. He was hit by a pitch in the first inning and scored a run and grounded out second to first his last time up. Dylan checks the runner at first, deals the plate. Outside corner, strike one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good pitch by Dylan. Painting the black on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_19

Dylan deals.

SPEAKER_02

Boy.

SPEAKER_19

Almost the exact same spot. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's what Dylan's saying. I think he wanted that. I mean, that looked like the exact same pitch. What's the chess missed?

SPEAKER_19

Dylan checks runner at first, delivers the plate. In there for strike two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good job of inside, outside by Peyton. First two pitches were outside. First three pitches were outside, and then he comes back with that inside corner pitch.

SPEAKER_19

There's the pitch by Dylan. Faldoff out of play down the first baseline. Count remains. Two balls, two strikes. Runner at first, one out. Dylan with the long look in here. Delivers.

SPEAKER_02

There you go.

SPEAKER_19

Got him looking for the strikeout. That's out number two. Erickson at first base. There's two outs for the stars. They lead this one four to nothing. We're in the top of the fourth inning.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. That's a good job by Dylan, kind of getting into Mogenson's. Kind of got into his head there a little bit. Working outside, outside, outside. Then he came back twice on that inside corner.

SPEAKER_19

That'll bring the pitcher Weirheim to the plate. He hits that hard out to JJ, bounces off his chest. That was a hard hit ball.

SPEAKER_02

Very hard hit ball. That thing took a wicked bounce.

SPEAKER_19

That might leave a mark. That puts runners at first and second for the stars, and that brings the very dangerous Trey Henry to the plate. Pinch runner for the Stars will be Taden Kinneman. He'll be running for Weirheim.

SPEAKER_02

He drove that ball down the third baseline. I think you still gotta stay away from him and keep the ball in the outside corner. Curved ball. Nice pitch.

SPEAKER_19

Swing and a miss. No balls, one strike. Millis would be up next should the inning be extended.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we gotta get out of this inning. Two outs. Gotta force out at any base.

SPEAKER_19

Dylan Deals, here's a pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

That's that pitch I'm talking about right there, Mike. That little hooker right there on the on the outside corner, just catching the black. He strides away from the plate, which makes it really difficult for him to reach that pitch.

SPEAKER_19

Dylan checks the runner at second. He deals. That ball popped up out into center field. Dylan Knapp settles under it for out number three. So the Stars put two runners on, unable to push anybody across. We'll go to the bottom of the fourth. Stars lead four to one. See you in 60.

SPEAKER_18

SPEAKER_16

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_19

Back here, heading to the bottom of the fourth.

SPEAKER_02

There you go.

SPEAKER_19

Right fielder takes a couple steps, able to make the catch out in right field for out number one. That will bring Schainer to the plate. Really important for the Crusaders to get a run or two here in this inning. They're running out of outs.

SPEAKER_02

That was actually a good piece of hitting by Tommy. Took that ball to right field, inside out. Nice line drive hit, but the right fielder playing imperfect, shallow, and he's playing down the line.

SPEAKER_19

Beckett Blatford steps in.

SPEAKER_02

Let's see if he can continue.

SPEAKER_19

If he's gonna get a hit, I'm gonna guess it's a line drive over first or third, because that's his last couple have been that. First pitch, strike one, no balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you gotta get something going.

SPEAKER_19

Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we just cannot seem to get our timing down on this guy, and and he is by no means overpowering us.

SPEAKER_19

Swing and a miss, strike three. Blatchford strikes out for out number two, and that will bring Dylan Knapp to the plate. Another change that they're proposing for Major League Baseball is college players will be able to leave after year number two instead of year number three.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I think at the JUCO they can they can do that, but at the three at the four year they gotta go three, correct?

SPEAKER_19

I believe so.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_19

That wouldn't be till 2028 if it goes through. That pitch to Dylan is high for ball one, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, let's get this started with two outs. I mean, the always dangerous Dylan Nap gets on.

SPEAKER_19

That pitch in there for strike one, one ball, one strike. Gas went would be due up next.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, when Dylan gets on, it's out of it's almost an automatic triple because he's he just always seems to get over there.

SPEAKER_19

Bounce it off down the third baseline, brings the count to one ball, two strikes. Long look in here. Here's the wind up and the pitch. Way outside, ball two, two balls, two strikes. Wareheim starts his wind up and delivers. Pitch way outside. Ball three brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes, two out for the Crusaders here in the bottom of the fourth. They trail this one four to nothing. Wind up in the pitch. Dylan able to fight that off. Foul it off toward the north dugout.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I think if he doesn't swing, it hits him.

SPEAKER_19

Count remains. Three balls, two strikes. Long look in. Here's the pitch. Swing and amiss. Strike three. That'll retire the Crusaders in the bottom of the fourth. One, two, three. We'll head to the top of the fifth. North Stars lead four to nothing. We'll be back here in one minute.

SPEAKER_16

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_19

We're headed to the top of the fifth inning. The North Stars lead the Crusaders 4-0. North will send Nillis, Shrunk, and White to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

We've got some more underwriters and sponsors of Bishop Heeland Baseball to get in here. Mike, uh Prime Bank of Sioux City, Queen of Peace, Trinity Heights, Rooley Family Chiropractic, Shram Electric, Security National Bank, Service Master of Siouxland, Sioux Body Shop, Sioux City Musketeers, Sioux City Sprinkler, Sioux City Symphony and Orchestra, Sneaky's Chicken, Soho Kitchen and Bar, and St. Augustine Indian Mission. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Heelham Baseball and Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_19

Nillis doubled his first time up, pops that one up into short center field. JJ Hope settles under it for out number one. Battled the sun a little bit there, able to make the catch. That'll bring Shrunk to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, that's a huge out getting Nillis out. I mean, he's been hot. He's got two or three doubles on the day, home run, several RBIs. Just a huge out.

SPEAKER_19

Based on the first two times up, I'm going to guess that Shrunk is going to hit this toward the shortstop. First pitch in there for a strike. No balls, one strike. And I lied. He hit that hard down the first baseline over Jonas' outstretched glove. Gas went fields, it throws it back in.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, reached out, got that outside pitch, took it to right field. Good piece of hitting.

SPEAKER_19

Shrunk at first base with one out. That'll bring White to the plate. Courtesy runner will be Tatum Henry for the North Stars.

unknown

Right fielder, number five, Nolan White.

SPEAKER_19

I don't think North is going to be happy with this 4-0 lead. I think they're going to try to manufacture another run.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you got you got to. I mean, you've got to be aggressive.

SPEAKER_19

Throw over. Henry back in time.

SPEAKER_02

You have nothing to lose. You got to be aggressive. You've got to put this game away. That's the mindset that Coach McLaughlin's got to have. And for us, Jay, you know, uh Dylan is settled in. He's finding his zone.

SPEAKER_19

That pitch outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

You know, he's really been working good inside, outside. He's got his slider working. I mean, he's really been the Dylan that we're used to, other than that first inning where he gave up four runs.

SPEAKER_19

Throw over, runner back in time. Dylan checks the runner at first, deals, runner goes. That ball fouled off. One ball, one strike. One out here in the top of the fifth, runner at first. Stars lead four to nothing. Dylan comes set, checks the runner at first, delivers the plate. Another pitch fouled off. One ball, two strikes. Whitney do up next.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's kind of throwing that ball about waist high. Uh right on the outside of the plate. Yeah, they come back maybe on the inside corner here, Mike. Uh jam him a little bit. He's seen back-to-back outside pitches. Got to kind of get it in his head here a little bit. Dylan Deals. That's exactly where he went.

SPEAKER_19

Pitch fouled right back at us. Count remains. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Now you got him thinking. You you go on outside, outside, inside. You know, and now the batter's thinking, okay, uh, am I gonna see a fastball outside corner, inside corner, or am I gonna see that sweeping curve ball, which which I think that's what Peyton just called.

SPEAKER_19

Here's a pitch. Runner goes. Throw down to second.

SPEAKER_02

Good. Oh, did he drop it?

SPEAKER_19

Wow. Well, we're a long way away.

SPEAKER_02

So I think he dropped it. I think I think he had him. I think he had him at second, and and the ball got underneath his glove.

SPEAKER_19

Pitch two balls, two strikes. Runner at second base for the stars. One out here in the top of the fifth inning. Dylan checks runner at second base, delivers the plate. Pitches high. Brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Whitney do up next. Healing cannot afford to give up any more runs in this game.

SPEAKER_02

No. No, not the way. Not the way they're throwing the ball, the pitcher, and and we're just not getting a good look at his pitches.

SPEAKER_19

Here's the pitch by Dillon. Swing and a miss, strike three. That's a huge out. That's out number two. Whitney will step to the plate with a runner at second base and a four-to-nothing lead here in the top of the fifth.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, just an absolute huge out for Dylan. Now you got a force. Well, nope, you got the guy on second base here. I thought we had a guy on first, but I was wrong. I was gonna say a force at any base, but Dylan checks back at second.

SPEAKER_19

Pitches. Pitches outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Erickson would be due up next.

SPEAKER_02

Coach Wesselman's gonna go out. He sees something. He's gonna probably just settle Dylan down there. Looked like he was aiming that just a little bit much and overthrew that outside corner.

SPEAKER_19

Whitney singled his first time up and grounded out short to first his last time up. Conversation at the mound is over. Everybody's heading back to their spots. One ball, no strikes to Whitney.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I think that was Coach Wessman going out there and telling Dylan basically this is what I want to see. Um we got an open base here. Don't give him anything that he can turn on. Uh maybe nip and tuck a little bit on the corners. Try to manufacture a ground ball in the infield.

SPEAKER_19

Dylan takes a long look in here. He comes set. Checks runner at second base. Here's the pitch. Outside ball two. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you gotta let's see where Peyton sets up on this one. I guess it's gonna go the same place.

SPEAKER_19

Here's the pitch. Fouled off out of play down the first baseline. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's definitely what Coach Wesselman was doing. He was going out there and saying, do not give him anything that he can turn on. All four pitches so far have been on that outside corner.

SPEAKER_19

Here's the pitch. Inside. Three balls, one strike. Up and in.

SPEAKER_02

It's a good, you know, it's a good waist pitch. Something he can't turn on. Maybe get him to sucker for it.

SPEAKER_19

Dylan comes set, checks the runner at second base. Here's delivery of the plate. That is popped up out of play. That'll bring the count full. Three balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Boy, that was a dangerous pitch. That thing Dylan might have got away with that one. That thing was down the middle. Fouled out. Now you gotta come back. Let's see if Peyton. My guess is he's gonna go back to that outside corner, Mike. Let's see.

SPEAKER_19

There's a pitch by Dillon. Swinging a miss, strike three. Struck him out.

SPEAKER_02

Beautiful pitch in the side corner. Beautiful.

SPEAKER_19

Strands a runner at second base in the top of the fifth. We will head to the bottom of the fifth. Crusaders trail four to nothing. We'll catch you in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_16

And now back to your Crusader sport on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_19

Welcome back, everybody. We head to the bottom of the fifth inning, Crusaders Trail 4-0. They will send Gaswent, Erickson, and Jensen to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, if we're going to do anything, Mike, we got to do it right now. I mean, we got to start right here. We got three at bats left.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah, whereheim's throwing a one-hitter against us. He's only given up the double to Schayner in the first inning. That first pitch high for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Here's a delivery. That pitch low and outside. Ball two. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

We get the leadoff run around here.

SPEAKER_19

Wind up by Weerheim in the pitch. Fouled off. Strike one. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

He's throwing that curveball, and you know, we're just missing it. You just gotta be patient. You gotta be real patient with this curveball and just take it to where. You know, if it's on the outside corner, you take it to right field. If he tries to sweep it on the inside, you pull it down the left field line.

SPEAKER_19

Bounces that one in there for ball three. Three balls, one strike. Peyton Erickson do up next. Here's the pitch. That's pitch is inside for ball four. Gaswin draws the walk. He's at first base. It's the first base runner we've had since first inning.

SPEAKER_02

So yeah, that's that's a good at bat by Gaswin. Uh patient. Uh didn't didn't swing at anything high.

unknown

Peyton, Erickson.

SPEAKER_19

Erickson's gonna step in here. Doesn't look like we're gonna courtesy run for Nathan. Look in by where I'm here's a pitch. Outside corner, strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he just kind of freezes our guys. He throws that thing, and when he went, and he's kind of tall, so when he when he releases it, it looks like it's really high, and then it just sweeps in.

SPEAKER_19

Thrower to first, gets away from first baseman, not far enough for Nathan to advance. Jonas is due up next. He'd be followed by Moravik and Beck. Should we have the opportunity to extend the inning that far? Wearheim deals. Pitches high. Ball one, one ball, one strike. Gaswin down at first base. We're in the bottom of the fifth. Crusaders trail four to nothing.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I I'm looking over Coach Taylor. I'm not so sure he's not gonna get aggressive here. And uh and and let Gaslin go on a maybe on a pitch on a hit and run here, maybe.

SPEAKER_19

Throw over to first. Gaswin using his cat-like quickness to dive back in safely. Here's pitch. That pitch bounces in there for ball two. Two balls, one strike. For those of you who have seen Nathan play cat-like and quickness, or not in his vocabulary, but he plays hard. He's got a big heart and he's a competitor. Um pitch to Peyton. Swing and a miss, got a piece of the umpire there.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's taking a little time. Catcher's doing his job, going out talking to the pitcher. Letting the umpire get a little breather.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah, I think that yeah, this is uh this is an unofficial timeout.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that that's a gut check. He's hurting. He must have got it right in the stomach? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah. Let's just say he's hurting, folks.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's Catholic radio. We better keep that one up to us.

SPEAKER_19

He's tough. He said, let's play ball. Two balls, two strikes to Peyton. Jonas on deck. Peyton being the catcher, he's apologizing. Please don't take that out on me now later on with these close pitches.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they're giving him a little more time. He's still not a hundred percent.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah, the base umpires out there having a brief conversation with the pitcher and the catcher. Nathan down at first. There's no outs here in the bottom of the fifth. Crusaders trail four to nothing, trying to claw their way back into this game.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, two and two. This is huge at bat.

SPEAKER_19

Here's the pitch. Bounces that one in there for ball three, brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Here we go, Mike. Situation baseball right now. I mean, this is huge. Full count. Got a chance to put guys on first and second here.

SPEAKER_19

Wehrheim looks in, throws over to first. Nathan able to dive back in safely. Those cat-like reflexes of uh he there he looks like a puma over there diving back in. I want to let you let me get in trouble with this with Heather, yes. Nathan goes. That pitch is popped out to second base. Gaswin's gonna be doubled up. Hit and run there.

SPEAKER_02

Just jammed, jammed Erickson, got him on his on the handle of the bat, and just a little blooper. Right to I mean, that's a base, probably a base hit if he's not stealing, Mike. Because that ball was would have gone right over second base, but because he was stealing, the second baseman was just waiting for it.

SPEAKER_19

That brings Jonas to the plate with two outs here in the bottom of the fifth. Pitch on the outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike. Moravic do up next. Should the inning get extended. Swing and a miss by Jonas. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Jonas needs to take another step toward the plate. They're throwing him on the outside corner, and and he's stepping away from the from the plate there a little bit. Just take there he goes, take another step, a little bit closer.

SPEAKER_19

Werheim shakes the signs off. Now he's happy with it. Starts his wind up. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike three. Jonas strikes out to end the inning. The Crusaders get a man on, but he's forced out at second with a double play. And we'll head to the top of the sixth. Crusaders trail this one four to nothing. We'll catch you back here in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_16

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_19

We are heading to the top of the sixth inning here at Bishop Mueller Field. North Stars will send Ericsson McCormick and the top of the order Mogatson to the plate. They currently lead four to nothing.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Dillon's really settled in since that first inning. I think they have five hits total. I know they have four on the up on the scoreboard, but I think they have five. Oh, they don't have any on there. But uh I think they've got five hits, and four of those came in the first inning.

SPEAKER_16

Leading off the top of six, third baseman, number 23, Tim Erickson.

SPEAKER_19

Erickson steps in. He grounded short to first, grounded out short to first his first time up, and singled his last time up, was stranded at second base.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Dylan's done a really nice job since that first inning. Uh short innings. Think he only got himself in a little bit of a pickle uh a couple innings ago. Um other than that, he's really been finding his outside inside.

SPEAKER_19

Wind up in the pitch. Just missed outside for ball one. One ball, one strike. Outside corner by Dylan. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, just a gorgeous pitch. Outside corner, fastball. Yeah, he's really settled in. He's battling like like the like the pitcher we know he is. Here's the pitch. Yeah, swinging him at strike three. Beautiful curved ball outside corner. Peyton made sure the umpire saw that he caught it and it wasn't in the dirt.

SPEAKER_19

One out for the stars here in the top of the sixth inning. That'll bring McCormick to the plate. He'll be followed by Mogenson.

unknown

He's the number three, Holly McCormick.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he came inside on him last time, got him to fly out. I'd like to see that same pitch. Fastball lone in.

SPEAKER_19

That first pitch. Fouls that off, out of play. Strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, come back with that. Come back with that slider on the inside corner.

SPEAKER_19

Pitch fouled off out of play down the third baseline. No balls, two strikes. See if we can sneak one by him here for the strikeout.

SPEAKER_02

Now so far the pitches have been up around the belt on on both uh both pitches. So I'd like to see him come come back a little bit lower, keep that thing down and in. There you go.

SPEAKER_19

Good morning, good afternoon, and good night. That's a strikeout. Second strikeout of the inning for Dylan. Two down for the stars. That'll bring Mogans into the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's really shut him down ever since that first inning. Just done a great job. I mean, you're getting exactly what you want out of him. He's, you know.

SPEAKER_19

That's the second time Mogenson's been hit by a pitch in this game. That'll put him on first base. He's hit by a pitch twice, grounded second to first, and struck out looking. He has scored one of the four North Star runs.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Moganson does a really good job of. Instead of trying to get out of the way of the pitch, he turns uh so that it hits the shoulder. Um I mean that's that's not you that's taut. It's not easy to do, but but uh he gets hit a lot. I was looking at his stats, he gets hit quite a bit. Um trying to think how many that was. He's been hit.

SPEAKER_19

That's a seventeenth time he's been hit by a pitch.

SPEAKER_02

And that's taut. That's you know, and like I said, till they call that Mike, uh that's it's a good play.

SPEAKER_19

Werheim steps in with two outs. Mogenson over at first base, throw over to first, he's back safely. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Dangerous, top of the lineup uh Mogansen. Uh one through four basically are just huge outs. Any way you can get them.

SPEAKER_19

Dylan deals. Runner goes. Yeah. Pitches outside. Ball one, one ball, one strike. Yeah, he didn't have a shot at him. Mogenson down at second base. Two outs here in the top of the six. North Stars lead four to nothing.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and how how big is this at bat now? And now you got Moganson in scoring position with his speed.

SPEAKER_19

There's a pitch by Dylan. That pitch hit out to right field. Nathan's giving chase. It's out of play. Brings the count to one ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

I like that uh slider that Dylan throws on the outside corner. He's had several players chase that thing. Like to see him throw that here again. And it doesn't have to be a great pitch, just maybe a little out of his reach. Got him one and two.

SPEAKER_19

Dylan looks in, checks a runner back in second. He's ready. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_02

Just outside.

SPEAKER_19

Outside. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, not a bad pitch. I like that pitch. Trey Henry do up next. Yeah, we don't want to get to him. Not with guys in scoring position.

SPEAKER_19

Dylan looks in, checks runner back at second, and deals to the plate. Yeah, Morgan's going. That pitch is foul. Count remains. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Nice play down the third baseline by Coach McLaughlin stealing it from Chase Beck as he was going over there. Yeah, come back in. Come back in on the inside corner. He's got two and two.

SPEAKER_19

Dillon checks the runner at second. And here's the pitch. Outside corner. Got him looking for strike three. That'll retire the side for the stars. They get a runner on. Not able to push anybody across. We're going to head to the bottom of the sixth, folks. It is four to nothing North Stars. Healand coming to bat. Back in 60.

SPEAKER_16

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_19

Time running out for the Crusaders here in game number two of this doubleheader. They won Game 1 3-2 with the walk-off in the bottom of the seventh. Here in the bottom of the sixth in game two, they will send Moravik, Beck, and Hope to the plate. Crusaders have one hit, and they've only had two base runners.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, this is huge. This is it. I mean, this is the it's now or never, Mike. I mean, we got six outs, and we really haven't touched him the whole game.

SPEAKER_19

Swing and a miss for strike one. No balls, one strike. Here's the wind up in the pitch. Way outside. Ball one. One ball, one strike. We're heim with the delivery. Swinging him at strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

We just cannot drive that curveball he's throwing. And it's just whatever it's doing, it's fooling the heck out of our guys.

SPEAKER_19

And there's the pitch. Oh. Got him looking for strike three. That's out number one. Moravic goes down looking, and that will bring Chase Beck to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

I don't think he was going to call that. I think the catcher went up to throw it like it was strike three, and then the umpire called it.

SPEAKER_17

Number four.

SPEAKER_02

Excuse me. It's a big at-bat for Chase. Need to get a runner. We need to get a run bad. We need to get something going. First pitch was a ball.

SPEAKER_19

Second pitch inside for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. JJ Hope, do up next.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he'll come back with that curveball for a strike. That's his go-to pitch.

SPEAKER_19

Here's the pitch by Wehrheim. That is line back up the middle. That's some good hitting by Chase. That'll put a runner at first base for the Crusaders. That'll bring up JJ Hope.

SPEAKER_02

Good piece of hitting, just keeping his weight back. And that's what I'm talking about. Given what the pitcher, you know, get whatever the pitcher gives you there, taking it and driving the ball. He drove it out to center field. Just exactly how you teach it. Hit it right back, right through the pitcher's head there.

SPEAKER_19

JJ popped out to the first baseman. There's another hit.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe.

SPEAKER_19

Great effort there by the shortstop to keep that from going to the outfield. There we go. Crusaders have a little something going here in the bottom of the sixth inning. They've got runners at first and second with one out, and that brings Tommy Carroll to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good. It's time for Tommy to just get a solid piece in the barrel of the bat. He's due. He's definitely due.

SPEAKER_19

Here's the pitch. Hits that hard out to the shortstop. Fields it, throws to second. Over to first in time. For the double play, and that will end the inning for the Crusaders. They get two men on, not able to score. That will take us to the top of the seventh inning. The stars lead this four to nothing. Come back in one minute.

SPEAKER_16

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_19

We're back. We head to the top of the seventh. They will send Henry, Nillis, and Shrunk to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's just been uh it's been one of those days for the Crusaders. I mean, the first game got 10 hits, but only he was able to produce three runs, and and we got the big goose save going here now, Mike. And and our bats have really just kind of cooled off this game.

unknown

Center fielder, Hubert.

SPEAKER_02

Dylan Knapp, other than that first inning, thrown a thrown a masterpiece. I mean really done a good job.

SPEAKER_19

Henry hit by a pitch in the first inning, scored a run. He singled his second time up and flew out to center field his last time up. Hits that one hard and foul out of play down the third baseline. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you've got to keep the ball low and outside on him. And that ball just didn't break. Kind of came across the middle of the plate. And Dylan knows that he got away with one there, and he just got to come back. Keep that ball down and out.

SPEAKER_19

Dylan steps off, looks in. Here's the pitch. That pitch has popped up out into left field. JJ drifting back, gives way to Moravik out there for out number one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good job by Moravic calling him out. That was JJ's ball. That's the rule of thumb. Shortstop goes out and out and out until he hears somebody say it's mine. And uh great job by Moravic.

SPEAKER_19

Nillis steps in. He's doubled, drove in two runs. Flew out to JJ at short twice. So had a home run in the first game. This is a big, big at bat right here for both teams.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's just huge. I mean, this is the guy that can hurt you in a lot of different ways.

SPEAKER_19

First pitch bounce in there for a strike or for a ball, two balls, no strikes. Here's the pitch. Outside, ball three, three balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'm sure Nillis has the green light here. Uh so you don't want to give him anything too good. Thank that.

SPEAKER_19

And that is hit hard. That's over Mason's head out there. He fields it off the wall. Gets it back in. Nillis with another double.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you can't give him that pitch. That thing hung, and and he just about jacked that thing. That hit hit right at the bottom of the fence.

SPEAKER_19

That'll bring Shrunk to the plate. One out for the North Stars here in the top of the seventh inning.

SPEAKER_02

Well, no harm, no foul here. You got him on second base. We got one out. We've got to keep him there.

SPEAKER_19

Andrew Klein going into courtesy run for Nillis out there. Shrunk will step in. He has number seven, Clean. He's the one in the first inning who hit the ball towards short and hit Nillis, who was out. He's also grounded out short to first and singled his last time up.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he took that ball to right field last time on a good piece of hitting on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_19

And this would be a bad time to hit it to right field in the air.

SPEAKER_02

That sun is right on him.

SPEAKER_19

Right in Nathan's eyes out there. Here's the first pitch. Outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Dylan just stays so so composed. You know, he gave up that hit and he just looks unaffected by it. He's in there, he's confident.

SPEAKER_19

Checks back at second base, and here's the pitch. Just outside for ball one. One ball, one strike. White would be due up next.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's seeing where Paige has to be.

SPEAKER_19

And that's off defense, folks. That's gonna be a triple. He's trucking for three. Kling scores. Make the score five to nothing, and Shrunk in with a triple. Exactly what the Crusaders did not need. Tatum Henry will go out to run for Shrunk, and that will bring White to the plate with one out here in the top of the seventh. Stars have added a run. They lead five to nothing.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, another good piece of hitting by Shrunk. He took that ball in the outside corner and just drove it. Got it up in the air, and and that thing just just carried.

SPEAKER_19

Swing and a miss, strike one. No balls, one strike. Whitney would be due up next.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Dylan needs to just get out of this inning. Just finish tough with these last two batters. Here's the pitch. Yeah, good pitch.

SPEAKER_19

Chased a bad one. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, come back with that same pitch. Nice slider. Unreachable. Got him fishing for it. Infield's in. Thrown the grass. Got to prevent another run from scoring.

SPEAKER_19

Here's a pitch by Dylan. It's short. Throws it home.

SPEAKER_02

There you go. Nice. Play at the plate. He's out. Great play by JJ and even better job of keeping his composure and holding his own on Peyton Erickson. Had a collision there at home plate.

SPEAKER_19

Peyton's getting himself together out there. That was a great play. JJ had to come in and scoop that up and throw on the run. Made a great throw to Peyton at home plate. He was able to get it and put the tag down. So that's two outs for the Stars. They've got a runner at first base. They've pushed one run across here in the top of the seventh, and they lead five to nothing. Whitney steps in.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, just absolute phenomenal play by both players there. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_19

Swing and a miss. Strike one. No balls, one strike. Get this out and let's build on that great play there. And let's get six runs in the hour half of the seventh and get another walk-off.

SPEAKER_02

I've seen it.

SPEAKER_19

Here's the pitch. Throw down to first. Oh boy, gets away from Jonas. White will head down to second base, so the stars have another runner in scoring position. It's one ball, one strike to Whitney. Erickson do up next.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, now this is this makes this at bat even that much more important. Now you got a guy on second base, a scoring position. You can't let anybody else score.

SPEAKER_19

Dylan comes set, checks runner at second. Here's the pitch. Whoa, that was a rocket over toward the North dugout. Just about took two people out. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, just those open dugouts, man. They just.

SPEAKER_19

Those kids standing up there without helmets on. It's of course as fast as that ball would have been coming. I don't know if a helmet would have helped or not. No. Yeah, big pitch. Dylan comes said. He checks the runner at second base. Comes to the plate. Nice.

SPEAKER_02

That's going to be troubled. Let it roll. Let it roll. There you go. Smart.

SPEAKER_19

Nice job. Chase Beck was going to scoop it up. Jumped over it. Let it roll foul. Count remains one ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

That's some serious discipline there. 99% of the guys would have tried to pick that ball up, make a play. And he knew he knew he didn't have a play at him, so just let it roll.

SPEAKER_19

So Whitney will step back in with the runner at second base and two outs. Inside corner. Got him looking for strike three. Gorgeous pitch. That'll retire the side, but the stars push another run across in the top of the seventh. We're going to head to the final half inning. Crusaders trail five to nothing. We'll be back in one minute.

SPEAKER_16

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_19

We're here in the bottom of the seventh inning. Crusaders will send Blatchford, Nap, and Gaswent to the plate. Crusaders need at least five to keep this game going.

SPEAKER_02

First pitch in there for a ball. We just have not been able to solve him all game long. That curveball just just loops in and we've been popping it up. We just have not been very patient with it. And uh Chase Beck was the first one I saw that just that took what he gave him and drove it into center field. Talking about Beckett filling in for Shaner's, we think Shanner might have got hurt when he slid into second with his hand up to check on that after the game. Here's the pitch. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_19

Outside corner for strike three. Caught looking for out number one.

SPEAKER_02

Nope, that that's that's two and two. Oh, two and two.

SPEAKER_19

I thought he well he when he held it up before, he showed one ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's we're gonna have to go get you some new new glass. Now we got strike three.

SPEAKER_19

I knew what I was talking about. Caught him looking either way. That's first out of the inning. That'll bring Dylan Knapp to the plate. Crusaders down to their final two outs, trailing five to nothing here in the bottom of the seventh.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you get a pitcher like this, and the longer he goes, the more confident he gets.

SPEAKER_19

That pitch to Dylan in there for strike one.

SPEAKER_02

No balls, one strike. And he's dialing right now. I mean, he's just in a zone. He's he's just not fancy, he's just throwing strikes. And we do a lot of we've been doing a lot of that.

SPEAKER_19

Dylan pops that foul. Just out of play. No balls, two strikes. Again, our next broadcast will be next Tuesday from Bishop Mueller Field. Face the West High Wolverines. We'll pre-game at 3 45. First pitch for game one around four o'clock.

SPEAKER_02

Now one thing we gotta we gotta take into consideration here, Mike. This is game number five. In three days. I mean, we've been playing a lot of baseball.

SPEAKER_19

Here's the pitch. Gets that down to the first baseman. He fields it cleanly. Takes it himself. For out number two. Crusaders down to their final out. Trail this one five to nothing. We'll keep it here when the game's over. We'll do a post-game recap and look forward to next week.

SPEAKER_02

Not a bad piece of hit by Dylan. He took that ball. A good piece of inside out hitting, stood back, drove it down the first base, just happened to hit it right to him.

SPEAKER_19

Gaswin steps in, he's popped out to the first baseman and walked. That first pitch in there for a strike.

SPEAKER_02

Just a wonderful game. McGregor in the first one called a beautiful game, too.

SPEAKER_19

Here's the pitch. Fouled back right at us for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Looks like it could be a quick inning at this rate.

SPEAKER_02

Erickson do up next. I mean, it's been a quick game, actually. We're gonna be under two hours. Unless we play. Two outs. Got our rally uh microphones on.

SPEAKER_19

Put those on backwards so people don't have to listen to us. That's right. One ball, two strikes. Two outs here for the Crusaders in the bottom of the seventh. A trail five to nothing. Here's the pitch. One ball, two strikes. Nathan steps back in. Werheim with his wind up, and here's the pitch. Low and outside, ball two, two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Nice patience by Nathan. Nice patience.

SPEAKER_19

Werheim starts his wind up, and here's the pitch. Way inside. Ball three. Three balls, two strikes. Erickson do up next. And the pitch. Outside corner for strike three. And that'll do it for the Crusaders here in game number two. They dropped the second game of the doubleheader five to nothing after winning the first one three to two in walk-off fashion. Not really a whole lot we can say. They had three hits in the game and and really never threatened.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good job by Dylan Knapp after the first inning. He found his zone and kept kept us within reach after giving up the four runs in the first inning. But we really couldn't s solve Weirham. I mean, gotta give him kudos the way he pitched tonight, Mike. He threw a masterpiece, uh kept us off balance all game. Uh didn't throw much different than the first pitcher through that looping curveball. And I how many fly balls did we have tonight? I mean, six out of the first eight uh were caught by the first baseman. Yep. So uh just you know we got to look at the positives. Game one, we get ten hits. We manufactured a run in the seventh inning, got the win. We came out a little bit sluggish in this second game, maybe took North for granted after taking three in a row from them.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah, yeah, definitely. And and we you know we talked about it at the start of game one and and all during game one. North is North has got some quality players over there, and they've got great leadership on the coaching staff. And they're gonna they're gonna do some damage, they're gonna hurt some people the rest of the way.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, for us, we just got to regroup, okay? Uh it's our fifth game in in three days. Uh guys are a little tired, and you can tell, I mean, that we didn't have that zip coming in and off of the field, you know, that we normally have. Guys were just walking a little bit and heads were down, and and coach will get back there. We'll get back in the cage, uh, take some cuts tomorrow uh and Saturday, and come back next week. We got West uh doubleheader here, and uh just come back and get a couple wins uh next week.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah, absolutely. They've definitely got some things to work on. They've and like John said, we've got a doubleheader Tuesday at home against West, and then on Thursday, we'll travel out to Sergeant Bluff for a doubleheader. And looking forward to four games next week that we get to do on the radio and appreciate everybody that listens.

SPEAKER_02

I want to talk one more thing about, you know, we talked a little bit earlier about uh about the pitching and about finding that number two and three. And and to me, Dylan just did he did a terrific job, you know, take away the four runs, did a good job of solidifying himself there as a as either coming in right off as a relief or number two. Now we just got to find a couple more, come in, get some nice job by our pitchers. Uh, and Tuesday will be a good chance again, like we talked, for some guys to come out and show us what they can do to maybe work their way into that number two and three position.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what the the pitching rotation will be on Tuesday. I mean, they're playing a West team that they're they're not a bad team, they're at the bottom of the conference. Uh it'd be interesting to see if if coaches decide to go with with some of the guys down the line on the pitching staff and give them an opportunity and then save uh you know Nathan and Dylan possibly for Thursday night uh out at Sergeant Bluff. So uh a lot of a lot of questions leading into next week and a lot of things to look forward to and get ready for.

SPEAKER_02

Thank you for letting me work with you again tonight, Mike. I really enjoyed it.

SPEAKER_19

Appreciate it, and we appreciate everybody that listens. And tune in next week. We'll be here at 3 45 on Tuesday for pregame. First pitch around 4 o'clock. We'll talk to you next week. Go, Crusaders. Have a great weekend.
