SPEAKER_07We're back here in Sergeant Bluff. We're getting ready for game number two between Healan and Sergeant Bluff. Sergeant Bluff won game one, eight to two. Coaches are out having their conversations with the umpires and exchanging lineup cards, so we'll be ready to go here shortly. For the Crusaders, their batting order will be leading off JJ Holt playing second base. Batting second, Peyton Erickson. Batting third will be Tommy Carroll playing left field. Batting fourth, Dylan Knapp. He'll be back in his natural position as center field, so I won't mess that up this game. Dathan Gaswin will be in right field. Alex Rodriguez will be the DH. He'll be DHing for Aiden LeFaver, who will be on the mound. Batting seventh will be Cal Geezy playing third base. Batting eighth will be Chase Beck playing second, and batting ninth will be Jonas Jensen playing first base. So we get another chance to see that infield that they showed us in game two against uh West the other night. A lot of speed, a lot of good gloves, and a lot of athleticism out there.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely. Uh like we were talking about, Mike, in between the games, we didn't see any errors on our Heatland defense. There were a couple, uh, I know a couple chances that maybe we we could have gone a different direction, and one of those being um that play to home plate. We had just looked to me like maybe Geecey just got that ball a little bit stuck in his glove there and went to second step. Still got the out, allowed a run, and and they had a five-run lead before that anyway. So um, but we're real happy what we're seeing with Cal Geecy at third base, and he's really starting to come into his own at the plate two for three uh in that first game. Uh last week he got a chance to hit in the second game against or excuse me, Tuesday night against West, and he had a couple really hard, one base hit and then a really hard hit to left field. So it'll be huge uh for him to get hot at the plate, being at the bottom of the order and with the speed he has. And then we talk about Jonas. I mean, my look, my lord, Jonas has just been uh playing an unbelievable defensively. He's got great speed, and then we're seeing starting to see him hit the ball, and it took him a little while to get his back going, but now we're starting to see him make contact. This is huge going into the playoffs to get our whole lineup clicking at the same time, and and we need to do that in the second game.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, it needs to start now with that loss in the first game. On the mound for Sergeant Bluff here in game two will be Zach Van Otterloo. He has a one-and-two record, 17 and two-thirds innings pitched. First pitch to JJ misses for ball one. Batting teams are batting 219 against him. He's given up 23 hits, 31 runs, 29 of those have been earned. He's walked 22, hit two batters, and struck out 16. He has an ERA of 1-1, 11.49.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, one thing about Van Adelie, we saw him the first time, Mike, and and he throws, he's got a really good curve ball. Uh keeps the ball around the plate. Uh sneaky fastball on the outside corner, usually.
SPEAKER_07JJ fouls that one off down the first baseline. Oh, first baseman not able to hang on to it.
SPEAKER_05I think he thought he was gonna hit the fence, Mike.
SPEAKER_07So count goes to one ball, two strikes, and JJ survives on the dropped ball by the first baseman there.
SPEAKER_05And that's where you got to make him pay. I mean, something like that. This you give give a guy an opportunity like that, especially with a kid like JJ.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, that's like the drop third strike where you're able to run it out and get on first base. It's a basically a free out. Two balls, two strikes. Peyton Erickson and Tommy Carroll to follow. Yeah, JJ had a good first game, three hits. Left-handed pitcher. JJ pokes his bat out, pops that out to the second baseman under it for out number one. And that will bring Peyton Erickson to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, just a little bit out of his zone. Um, probably ball four if he lets that ball go, but you know, you never know. Uh this umpire, I if he's got an outside strike zone, we don't know yet. We haven't seen enough pitches.
SPEAKER_07Well, this is one that we've had before that keeps us guessing. So we may be a little delayed with the ball and strike call. Pitch low for ball one, one ball, no strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Peyton's due for hit here. He's due to hit one of those line drives.
SPEAKER_07Swing and a miss. Fooled him on that one. One ball, one strike. Again, healing loss game one, eight to two. This is very important that they get a win here in this game number two. And Otterloo taking his time on the mound. Here's the windup and the pitch. Low for ball two. Two balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Peyton sneaking up to the plate, trying to get a little closer. Nice hit.
SPEAKER_07Nice hard hit ball right over the third baseman's glove for a single. Erickson reaches. That will bring Tommy Carroll to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Peyton really needed that. Van Adelou tried to go in the inside corner on him, and Peyton really turned on that.
SPEAKER_07And here goes double H. Hendricks Heaton out the courtesy run for Peyton.
SPEAKER_05You know, by the time it's all said and done, Mike, we are probably gonna say Henrik Heaton's name more than anybody else on the team.
SPEAKER_07I would imagine. If you and I are fortunate enough to do this for the next three, four years, I think we're gonna say his name quite a bit.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he's we uh he he gets a he gets the opportunity to run quite a bit.
SPEAKER_07Van Otterloo checks the runner at first. Here's the pitch. Bounces in there for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Dylan Knapp awaits an opportunity.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we we we did a good job getting base hits last game and hitting the ball. We just we just didn't hit him at the right time, and it'd be really huge here to get to get a little hit and run going, and and Tommy come through with a guy in scoring position, hopefully here.
SPEAKER_07That pitch way outside for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Checks him again, and here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it was interesting to hear Coach Taylor talk about the east to west, and you know, you and I talk about it inside outside, basically the same concept and how they how they work that Ben Otterloo checks heating at first.
SPEAKER_07Here's the pitch. Good cut by Tommy. Swinging a miss, strike two, two balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Tommy went through a period there in the middle of the season uh where he just goes flaming hot and kind of cooled off here a little bit, and like to see him get back on that streak.
SPEAKER_07Here's a pitch, heat and goes, and that hits him. Carroll reaches on a hit on a hit by pitch, so we've got runners at first and second with one out, and that'll bring Dylan Knapp to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Dylan, uh Dylan could put that ball in the gap. Fouled off.
SPEAKER_07No balls, one strike. Dylan would be followed by Nathan Gaswin. Healing two on, one out here in the top of the first inning.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, one thing Dylan does is he's great inside out hitter, uh, takes ball. They're playing him straight up. I mean, he but he's primarily uh uh center field to right field you know hitter. At pitch high for ball one, one ball, one strike. Good inside out with the fist coming through, the barrel following, takes that ball to right field quite a bit.
SPEAKER_07Van Otterloo with the check back at second. Pitches at pitch high. Two balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Van Aderloo's throwing a lot of pitches here in these first uh four batters, gets himself in a hole a little bit.
SPEAKER_07Well, in the first inning they threw a lot of pitches, and it turned out to worked out well for them. Let's hope it's reversed this time. I hope so. Checks the runner at second, and here's the pitch. Just underneath it. Dylan pops that one up to the second baseman out there. He's gonna settle under it for out number two, and that will bring Nathan Gaslin to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I think Nathan would he uh have two hits in the first game and um hit the ball really well, and he's hitting the ball really well. Uh got his average up to 338, probably got it up higher than that in that first game with two hits.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, if he's not careful, he's gonna be north of 400 here pretty soon.
SPEAKER_05He's swinging and Van Adeluz, he he's giving these guys something good to hit, uh throwing it right around the zone. Wow, he tagged that ball. Woo! Just missed it. Foul ball.
SPEAKER_07And you can tell by his body language he knows he missed it. Yeah, that thing just uh that had three-run home run written all over it.
SPEAKER_05That'd been out there in the left field bleachers, if there were bleachers out there, but it went foul.
SPEAKER_07It would have been out where Harry Carey would like to sit, huh? Holy cow. Wind up in the pitch. Yeah. Just misses one ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, this is the guy with the delay strike, so you gotta re you're right, you gotta really kind of follow him to see if he calls a ball or a strike.
SPEAKER_07There's a pitch. That's in there for strike two. Yeah, Nathan knew it.
SPEAKER_05Now, here we go. Nathan, Nathan with two strikes. This is what he likes. He does this quite a bit, folks, and we've seen him come through many times. Let's let's hope this is another one.
SPEAKER_07Here's the pitch. Got under that. Don't know anyone's gonna get to it. Catcher over there. Nope. Catcher not able to make the play, so there's two opportunities for the Crusaders where Sergeant Bluff has not been able to field a foul ball and record an out. So time to make them pay.
SPEAKER_05That's got to be your first baseman. That he's got to take that command of that ball. That's a tough play for the catcher to come all the way down the first baseline and make that catch.
SPEAKER_07One ball, two strikes, a count to Gasland. Arod on deck. Van Oderloo checks heating at second, and here's the pitch. High. Two balls, two strikes. Already up to 23 pitches in the inning for Van Otterloo.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he's I mean, and he would have had a lot less. They make those two plays, but here we go. Let's make the most of the opportunity that we that we were given. Oh, he just missed it. Here's another chance for the catcher.
SPEAKER_07He's able to make that one. Gaswent pops out to the catcher for out number three. And that will retire the side. Crusaders get two on, unable to push anybody across. We're gonna head to the bottom of the first. No score. Talk to you in 60.

SPEAKER_17And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_07Welcome back, everyone. We're headed to the bottom of the first. Batting order for Sergeant Bluff here in game number two. Leading off will be Warren. He will be he's the catcher. Batting second will be Wesher. He is short playing shortstop. Merrill batting third is first baseman. Right fielder Knifeel is batting cleanup. Batting fifth is Hayes. He's the DH. It appears he is DHing for Van Otterloo, the pitcher. Batting sixth playing second base is Anderson. Batting seventh playing center field is McCormick. Batting eighth playing third base is Christians. And batting ninth is Frankel playing left field. Aiden LeFavor on the mound. Aiden so far this season. This is his sixth start. He has a record of 2-1. He's pitched 28 innings. Teams are hitting 291 against him. He's given up 34 hits, 18 runs. 17 of those have been earned. He's walked nine. He's hit six batters, and he has struck out 22 with an ERA of 4.25. Let's hope the hit-by-pitch streak ends here in this game for Crusader pitching.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Aiden had an uncharacteristic uh outing his last uh time, kind of like uh the first game for Dillon. Aiden was uncharacteristically, he couldn't find the zone a little bit, was high, um, got hit around a little bit. Um what we're normally used to seeing with Aiden is he keeps the ball around the zone. He's got a really good slider. I call it the LeFavre slider. It looks just like his older brothers, um, just quite not with the velocity yet.
SPEAKER_07That first pitch on the outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike. Sporting a pretty nice new haircut, too. Here's the pitch. Just outside. One ball, one strike. Wesher is due up next. Wegger is due up next. It was written as Wesher on the sheet here. That ball hit foul down the first baseline.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he did that in the first game. He he's a pole hitter. Um likes to take that inside pitch, and he he's good at it. Where he struggles is that outside corner. And I'd like to see us that backdoor that backdoor slider on the outside corner. It looks like that's what he's throwing right there. Oh boy, I don't know how you don't call that, but that was a beautiful pitch. Two balls, two strikes. That was an absolute beautiful pitch. Looked like a paint at the corner.
SPEAKER_07Here's the pitch by Aiden. Just missed for ball three. That brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Wegger waiting his opportunity to come to the plate. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike three. Aiden gets that first batter to strike out, and that'll bring Wegger to the plate.
SPEAKER_05You can tell right now, Mike, that that Caleb's a lot more in his zone and feeling feeling like Caleb Lefaver we're used to just on the first batter, just on that first batter. I mean, he's got the ball low, he's hitting his spots, playing inside, outside baseball.
SPEAKER_07Here's first pitch to Wegger. Inside for ball one, one ball, no strikes.
SPEAKER_05That was a good slider. Uh inside corner just missed. That pitch just misses. Two balls, no strikes. Well I'd come back on. I I like pitching the inside corner to Wagger. He likes to take the ball to right field.
SPEAKER_07That pitch catches the outside corner for strike one. Two balls, one strike. Merrill due up next.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Peyton's worked him outside. He's gonna go back there again. Yeah, nice. Swing and a miss, strike two, two balls, two strikes. How's that good slider that Caleb likes to throw?
SPEAKER_07Swing and a miss, strike three, back-to-back strikeouts for Aiden here in inning number one. That will bring Merrill to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Aiden's coming out here like he's got something to prove, and that that last game was a little bit of a fluke, and and so far so good for the for the nice young eighth grader.
SPEAKER_07There's the first pitch. Breaks in there for strike one. No balls, one strike. Just misses that inside corner.
SPEAKER_05Umpire gave up on that one. I think that caught the inside corner. He kind of stood up before that thing landed in Peyton's glove.
SPEAKER_07One ball, one strike. Pitch high for ball two, two balls, one strike. Knife will do up next. Here's the pitch. Way inside for ball three. Three balls, one strike. Two outs here for Sergeant Bluff in the bottom of the first. Early in this game, we have no score. Here's the wind up in the pitch. Way outside ball four. Merrill draws the walk, he'll trot down to first base, and that'll bring Knifel to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he just missed on a couple of those. Uh they were good pitches, just missed on the inside corner. Um don't change much. Uh now you got a guy on first base. You've got to come from the stretch. Just keep doing what you're doing.
SPEAKER_07Here's the pitch. In there for a strike. Knifel was over three in game one with a walk. No balls one strike. Hayes is due up next.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Knife likes to get a little close to the plate. I wouldn't I wouldn't be surprised if we don't go on the inside corner on him here.
SPEAKER_07Throw over first. Back in plenty of time. Merrill jumps way out there with the lead. Here's the pitch. That pitch fouled off. No balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he's definitely got his slider working tonight, Mike. You know what the Lefavers do, both of them do really well, and Aiden's no difference. He's he's got a really nice slider that that has a little bit more speed, then he kind of changes it up with a. I gotta ask Jeff about it if that's a curveball or a slider that he kind of changes the speed up with. It's got a little more of a loop, but uh it kind of looks like the slider, and it but it it throws batters off because it's coming in a little slower.
SPEAKER_07Shout out to his brother Caleb and his mom and brother out there in Arizona.
SPEAKER_05Pitch. Good pitch.
SPEAKER_07Good morning, good afternoon, and good night. Caught him looking for strike three. Sergeant Bluff gets one man on and strands him after one. No score. We'll be back in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_17And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_07Welcome back, everybody. Thanks for listening. We're headed to the top of the second. Crusaders will send Rodriguez, Giecy, and Beck to the plate. Jonas would be batting cleanup, so there's some speed coming up, and we need to get them on base and and make them pay.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we need to get something going here. And Rodriguez, you know, he's a good first ball hitter. And oh, just missed it. It's gonna be a fly up.
SPEAKER_07Pops that up over out foul to the third baseman. He's able to make the play. Rodriguez pops out to third for out number one.
SPEAKER_05Gotta give a shout out to my sister Patty Lord coming in from Omaha, and my sister Mary Claire, who's here from Cincinnati, back for a wedding. My sister Terry's daughter Mary's getting married, so my whole family's back. So it'll be a fun weekend with uh with the Tritzes.
SPEAKER_07Be a big wedding. Yeah. Cal Geese steps in. First pitch in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Cal had a really good first game. Just gonna get better and better as the season goes on. Wind up by Van Otterloo in the pitch. Just missed. Oh, he that's gonna be trouble, Mike. That may drop in there.
SPEAKER_07That's gonna drop in. That drops in. Geecey with the single. Hey. Drops it in between short and the left fielder. So Geecey on first base with the single, and that will bring Chase Beck to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Well, hopefully his dad's listening, because in the books, that's gonna go in as a frozen rope single, Mike.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, man. Well, if you're listening, that was a smoking hit out there.
SPEAKER_05Hey, that makes up for all the hard hits that you hit two people. You you deserve a hit like that.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, absolutely. And and Jeff Lefavre, before we, I think before you were back up here, even before we were on the air for his interview, he had a lot of uh kind words to say about Cal and the type of ball player he is. So give a shout out to Jay Wright. He's listening out in Michigan, headed to his nephew's wedding. So everybody's got weddings this weekend. Oh my lord.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Nice piece. Oh my lord.
SPEAKER_07Shortstop makes a great diving play out there. And whoa. They are saying that was a double play, and I think that that's not gonna get changed.
SPEAKER_05Sure look like Well, the first base, the home plate umpire's walking down kind of like he's waiting for him to ask him.
SPEAKER_07Sure looks like Chase was safe over there at first base.
SPEAKER_05How do you that is past the base by about a foot? That was they're coming out and arguing that. I don't blame them. Coach Wesselman's all the way out to the home plate here.
SPEAKER_07Great stop by the shortstop on that. He had to go way to his left to make that play.
SPEAKER_05So he's going over right now. The first base umpire and the home plate umpire are talking about it.
SPEAKER_07I'm not gonna put it down as a third out yet after what happened in the first game.
SPEAKER_05They're waiting here. Let's see. Now they're not gonna change it. They're not gonna change it.
SPEAKER_07Can I give an explanation here? We're not gonna get the explanation. We're just gonna see that they're not they're not changing the call. So that's out number three. Crusaders retired one, two, three in the top of the second. Still no score. We'll head to the bottom of the second and look forward to seeing you back here in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_17And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_07We're back here ahead to the bottom of the second inning. Sergeant Bluff will send Hayes, Anderson, and McCormick to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, you're talking about giving a shout-out to Jay Wright, and you know, he had uh Jeff LaFavre up here talking about pro baseball and and uh Jay's nephew uh can't think of his first name uh name, but uh the young Wright kid from Sergeant Bluff here that's in the minors right now.
SPEAKER_07First pitch in there for strike one, no balls one strike. Aiden struck out the side in the first inning. Sandwiched around a walk. That pitch fouled off.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Aiden's really got it going on right now, Mike. I'm I'm sitting right over, for those of you, I'm right over the plate here behind uh home plate, and and he's really got that ball breaking.
SPEAKER_07No balls, two strikes. Here's the pitch. Just misses inside for ball one.
SPEAKER_05One ball, two strikes. I like that pitch. That's that that's that inside out sweeper to the inside corner.
SPEAKER_07Aiden starts his wind up, and here's the pitch. Fouled off. Count remains one ball, two strikes. Anderson is two up next.
SPEAKER_05Hey, we didn't get our uh chance to go get our hot dog in between games, Mike.
SPEAKER_07When we go on the road, we gotta pay for him. We're not treated as well on the road as we are at home. Here's the pitch. Nice pitch.
SPEAKER_05That's grounded out to get over there, get over there.
SPEAKER_07Oh, Chase tries to make a spinning throw and not able to get it to Jonas at first base. That that was kind of in no man's land. Jonas started after it and then realized I can't get to it, so he headed over to first. And Anderson will reach on the error by Chase at second, just on the throw.
SPEAKER_05On the throw, yeah. I think that's a base hit, but uh that'll bring McCormick to the plate. Yeah, on the throw, you're right.
SPEAKER_07Well, we have nicer accommodations, but we don't get free food. We go to Briarcliff, our accommodations aren't aren't quite as good, but we get free food, so that's kind of a trade-off. Good pitch. Good pitch.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, the whole idea that Chase even got to that ball, uh the range we've got uh defensively, I mean, it's just it really is solid. We do not beat ourselves defensively, folks.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, here's the pitch. Swinging a miss, strike two. Yeah, that's the people may be getting tired of hearing about it. But the speed we have on the infield and the ability to get some of these balls that are hit in the hole is pretty impressive. I mean it some of them turn into outs and some of them save, keep a guy at a single instead of a double. Aiden looks in, here's the pitch. High for ball one, one ball, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that's that's he just hung that thing just a little bit. Uh the release was a little a little high and and it stayed high. The chairs up here are nice too.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, that's well, everything's brand new.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, the girls were in extra innings. I don't know how that first game turned out, Mike, but they had the lead in the extra innings.
SPEAKER_07Runner goes, swing and a miss. There we go. Peter. And they got him at second base. Just gorgeous. Strike them out, throw them out there, folks, for your unconventional double play.
SPEAKER_05Great release by Aiden getting the ball out of out of his hands quick to home plate, and uh, and an even quicker release by Peyton getting the ball down to second base. And those of you that that have caught, you'll understand what I'm talking about.
SPEAKER_07One ball, one strike to count to McCormick. Good pitch.
SPEAKER_05That pitch in there for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Yeah, he's cooking right now. He's cooking. I like it. And he and he's going fast. This is this is what I when Aiden's on, he moves fast. There's the pitch.
SPEAKER_07That's grounded out to Beck at second base. It'd be a root. Scoops it up over to Jonas for out number three. That will retire Sergeant Bluff in the bottom of the second. We're still scoreless as we get ready to head to the top of the third. Come back and see us in 60.

SPEAKER_17And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_07Thank you, everyone. We appreciate everyone that's listening out there, and we're heading to the top of the third. Crusaders will send Jonas Jensen and then the top of the order, JJ Hope and Peyton Erickson to the plate. Jonas will step in from the left side. So we got lefty on lefty matchup here.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Jonas made nice contact his last at bat in the last game. Ripped that ball. Uh got got it past the second baseman out into right field. Like to see him continue that.
SPEAKER_07Here's the first pitch. He squares the bunt, pulls back. Ball one, one ball, no strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, now he's got the third baseman thinking here, and and Jonas can take that ball down to third baseline. He's gonna go for a long ways.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, here's the pitch. In there for strike one. One ball, one strike. Crusaders come into this game with a 20-10 record on the season, 17-6 in the Missouri River Activities Conference. Squares again, pulls back, two balls, one strike. Jonas squares around again and pulls back. Never saw okay, three balls, one strike. Wasn't quite sure what he was gonna call on that one. Here's the pitch to Jonas.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_07That brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05That would have been a perfect one to take down that left field line. That was on the outside corner. Yeah, that third baseman is playing way over. Yeah, but he's he's he's he's just right for the picking over there. Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_07Way outside, ball four.
SPEAKER_05Good eye by Jonas.
SPEAKER_07Jonas draws the walk.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, good at bat. Good at bat.
SPEAKER_07Trots down to first base, and that will bring JJ Hope to the plate. JJ popped out to the second baseman his first time up.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, here, you know, so here's our situation. You know, we got speed at the bottom of the order, Mike. You get him on, and now you got speed at the plate. I mean, there's so much we can do from uh from a baseball standpoint. Hit and run, steal.
SPEAKER_07Van Outerloo checks Jonas over at first. Here's the pitch. Outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, let's see what Coach Taylor's got. I think he's over there giving a signal. Yeah, I mean, I'd be really surprised if we don't have a hit and run either on this pitch or the pitch after this.
SPEAKER_07Van Outerloo checks the runner at first. Deals to the plate. JJ ropes that down the third baseline. That'll put runners at first and second with no outs. And that will bring Peyton Erickson to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Here we go. I mean, this is deja vu, Mike. I mean, we've had this situation. We've got guys on first and second, and now's the time. We've got to start producing. Uh Peyton had a really nice at bat, his first time up. I'd like to see him do that same thing. Uh be aggressive and keep that shoulder up.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, Jonas walked to lead off the inning, and JJ Hope followed up with a single. So two on, no outs. Crusaders here in the top of the third inning. Van Otterloo deals. Peyton squares bunts a beautiful bunt right out in front of right out in front of home plate. Crusaders have runners and two runners in scoring position now. Second and third. With one out.
SPEAKER_05Beautiful bump by Peyton. Put it right in the middle of the dirt around home plate. The only only play that the catcher had was to go to third or to first, and that was a tough play anyway.
SPEAKER_07That will bring Tommy Carroll to the plate. Gonna have an offensive timeout here. I had to say offensive, so it didn't sound like I was saying offensive. Carroll scored a run in game number one, reached on a fielder's choice, and was 0 for 2 after that. So he's got his instructions now.
SPEAKER_05I'm sure what Coach Taylor and Coach Welseman are saying to him is here's Van Otterloo's right around the plate. He's giving you something to hit on the first pitch. Don't be afraid to jump on it. Here's the pitch by Van Otterloo. Swing and a miss, strike one. That's exactly what that conversation was about, Mike. Be aggressive at the plate.
SPEAKER_07Jonas with a good lead at third, and the pitch. Bounces in there, gets away from the catcher. Jonas is in. Jonas with the first run of the game for the Crusaders. They lead this one one to nothing, and JJ Hope able to advance down to third base. So still have a runner in scoring position 90 feet away, and the count is one ball, one strike to Tommy Carroll. Yeah, Jonas was there in a minute. Like boom. Yeah, you're not gonna, you're not gonna you're not gonna time him on a calendar when he's running. And Otterly with the pitch. In there for strike two. One ball, two strikes, one out. JJ Hope at third base. Crusaders have one run in so far. Yeah, let's get him in, Tommy.
SPEAKER_05I mean, get that ball in the air. Do what you gotta do. Let's get him in.
SPEAKER_07And Otterloo with the delivery. There we go. Tommy hits that down in third baseman. Third baseman looks home. Throws the first for the out. Carroll is retired for out number two, but JJ Hope scores on the play. That will make the score two to nothing Crusaders. And that will bring Dylan Knapp to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, but that's exactly what you do. That's your job. You get up there, hit a fly ball, do something, put the ball on the ground. Anything is gonna score JJ. Anything on the ground in the infield is gonna score him.
SPEAKER_07Dylan squares that first pitch in there for strike one. No balls, one strike. And Otterloo looks in, starts his wind up, and here's the pitch. And inside corner for strike two. No balls, two strikes. And Otterloo with a long look in. Now he starts his wind up and here's the pitch. Bounces that one in there for a ball. One ball, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, they're they're working the inside corner on Dylan and Dylan just just be patient and take that thing inside out and take it to right field. Wind up in the pitch. Yeah, yes, Messi. Pops that foul that's going to be in play.
SPEAKER_07First baseman's able to make the play over there. Crusaders able to push two runs across in the top of the third. We'll go to the bottom of the third. Crusaders two, Sergeant Bluff zero. We'll talk to you again in one minute.

SPEAKER_17And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_07We're here at Sergeant Bluff. We're heading to the bottom of the third inning. Crusaders lead this one two to nothing. Sergeant Bluff will send Christian Frankel and then back to the top of the order, Warren to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Now let's get some more of our sponsors for uh Bishop Healing Baseball in here. Kellen Williams Real Estate, Agent Tammy Bertrand, Cruz Financial Group, Lawler Fixtures, Liberty National Bank, Lightform, Modern Day Parish, McClintock Insurance, and Meyer Brothers Funeral Homes. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healan Baseball and Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_07Christian steps out. Now he steps back in. Here's the pitch by Aiden. Lined hard back up the middle, right past Aiden's glove for a single.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that's one of those pitches that he probably liked back. Kind of hung that curveball over the middle of the plate and uh slapped that thing right up the middle.
SPEAKER_07So Christians reaches on a single. He is down at first base and that will bring the left fielder Frankel Frankel to the plate. Aiden looks in here. Checks the runner at first. Here's the pitch. Outside, ball one. One ball, no strikes. Aiden so far at 34 pitches heading into the third inning.
SPEAKER_05I mean, a little situation here. You got a guy on first base. Uh good hitter at the plate.
SPEAKER_07Squares around, fouls that one off. One ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Coach Nelson, he's giving some signals here. We got something, something brewing here. Yeah, he wants to get one of these runs back for sure, so he's gonna try to get him to second base any way he can, and even if he's got to sacrifice Franco.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, and they showed in the first game, they're not afraid to put pressure on healing.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_07Swing and a miss, strike two, one ball, two strikes. In that postseason bracket for the Crusader softball, they will play on July 11th. It'll be a home game, and they'll play the winner of Spencer and Lamar's. The other side of the bracket is MOC Floyd Valley. And they've got Lamar's. Lamar's can't be playing in two places at once. So MOC is playing somebody. I'm not sure who it is according to this bracket. It's not right. But the winner of that game would play Fort Dodge, and then the two winners on the 11th would face each other for a chance to go to the state tournament.
SPEAKER_05Now they manufactured the ball. Uh the ball got away from Peyton, just it bounced to the left and he couldn't see it. And then by the time he went to see it, the runner took off, and and when Peyton went to pick it up, he I think he's got his cleat caught in uh in the turf.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, something happened because he stumbled back uncharacteristically. Uh pitch just misses for ball three. Three balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. No, I don't missed high, if anything, because it was down right down the middle of the plate.
SPEAKER_07Aiden with a long look in here. Deals. That hit hard out to JJ at short. Runner at second, not able to advance. 6-3 put out. And that will bring Warren to the plate. He struck out his first time up.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, good play by JJ. Ball hit right to him. Again, you know, when you're holding the guy on at second base, normally that ball might have got through, but because JJ's playing over closer to second base to hold the guy, the runner on, the ball was basically hit right to him.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, that's one of those times where that pays off for you. It does. You're right. Aiden deals. Low for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Wegger would be due up next.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, these are those, Mike. This is these are those new lights. I don't know if you're if you if you notice you can't see the lights in the outfield. Um this is what I think Keelan's gonna. This is kind of like the lights we're gonna, I think we're gonna get at Memorial Field. Boy, that's trouble. That ball hitting the air out the gas went in right field.
SPEAKER_07He's able to make the play for out number two. Christians remains at second base with two outs, and that will bring Wegger to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, the well, what they're designed to do is be more friendly for your residential areas, and it doesn't make it look so bright around, other than right on the baseball field.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, because uh there's there's some houses right across the street from the complex here. Yeah. So Wegger steps in with two outs. Christian's down at second base. Here's the pitch on that outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he got Wagger on, I think, on three straight curved balls. Sliders, excuse me, sliders on the outside corner, his last at bat.
SPEAKER_07Ayton with the long look in, and here's the pitch. Swinging amidst strike two. No balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05He's really got him fooled on that pitch. Wager's really struggling on that. That's that outside corner slider.
SPEAKER_07No balls, two strikes, two outs. Runner at second base. Healing leads two to nothing. Here's the pitch. That ball lined over JJ's head, out at short. Dylan Knapp comes up. Christians will score from second base. That'll make the score two to one. Wegger reaches on the R with the RBI single, and that will bring Merrill to the plate. Merrill walked his first time up.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, nice hit by Wagger. You know, it was a good pitch by Aiden. I mean, he's fooled him on it four times and just kind of left it, left it up, but uh Wager did a nice job and got the ball out into left center.
SPEAKER_07There's the pitch. Merrill was trying to lean up into that just a little bit to try to get hit, but he he's a pretty skinny dude, so he'd have to lean way up for that one. That's the ball one. One ball, no strikes. Aiden with the pitch, runner goes. Swing and a miss. Strike one. One ball, one strike. So Wegger takes off down to second base. He's in there safely. One ball, one strike, two outs. Crusaders lead, two to one. We're in the bottom of the third inning.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I just got just got out of Peyton's glove. Just dropped in the front. He didn't have a didn't have a shot at Wagger after that. Peyton giving him the signal here.
SPEAKER_07Merrill asked for time. He's granted his request. Now Aiden comes set, and here's the pitch. That pitch fouled over our head for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Aiden, long look in. There's a wind up in the pitch. Reaches out and puts that perfectly between short and third. We're going to have to play at the plate here, folks. Ball bounced up off Peyton's glove. The throw was there in time. Yeah. He would have Wegger would have been out at home plate. Ball just took a funny hop off the turf, and that ties the score two to two.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it just got out of his glove. I mean, that he correls that ball in. He's out at home plate, no question.
SPEAKER_07Merrill reaches on a single, advances to second on the throw home. So Sergeant Bluff has two runs in. Runner at second base with two outs, and that'll bring Kneifel to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we've got a new ball game here now. 2-2. It's huge. Let's get out of this inning.
SPEAKER_07No balls, one strike to Kenifel. Hayes is due up next. Here's the pitch. Outside, ball one. One ball, one strike. Kneifel struck out looking his first time up. Aiden checks the runner back at second. Here's the pitch. That's fouled off down the line. Cal Geezy scoops that up. One ball, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, they're they're really getting close to the plate. They crowd the plate, and and they're just challenging Aiden to go for that inside corner. Um he's tried a few times with that slider and has got him got him looking and caught him, but be nice if he sneaked that fastball down low, right at the knees. Long look in by Aiden on this one.
SPEAKER_07Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_05That's that side. Beautiful.
SPEAKER_07He struck him out looking. That's the second time, and the batter Yeah, he argued that last time. Kneifel did not agree. Yep. So that's out number three, but Sergeant Bluff is able to push two runs across. We are tied, heading to the fourth. We'll talk to you again in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_17And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_07We're getting ready to get things started here in the top of the fourth inning. Crusaders will send Gaswent, Rodriguez, and Geezy to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we got some more sponsors here to quickly get in here. Mike Mill, Shellhammer, Pitts, Missouri Valley Land and Cattle, Mollet Industrial Group, My Jeweler, Myra Favor State Farm Agency, Neil Pfeiffer, KOC Insurance Agent. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Heeland Baseball and Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_07Van Otterloo looks in as Gaswent steps into the plate, checks the swing, and fouls that one off. No balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that's one of those ones where you, oops, I didn't mean to swing, and the ball just goes off the edge of your bat there.
SPEAKER_07No balls, one strike. Nathan popped out to the second baseman his first time up. So wind up in the pitch. Bounces in there. One ball, one strike. Thanks again to Ann Reed and Tim Swedeen for all they do for Catholic Radio and giving John and I the opportunity to bring these games to you. Here's the windup in the pitch. Oh, he just missed it. Got under that one. That might be trouble. Nope. Looks like shortstop's going to get out there in time. Nathan pops out to the shortstop for out number one, and that will bring Alex Rodriguez to the plate. He popped out to the third baseman his first time up. When you look at the Sergeant Bluff logo, you have to wonder if they kind of had to get a little bit of permission from the Cardinals because it looks a lot like theirs without the Cardinal.
SPEAKER_05It does.
SPEAKER_07I mean if you look out on the scoreboard, it does look like the Cardinals logo because you can't see the little B. It it looks like it it could be the St. Louis Cardinals, but here's pitch, swing and miss, strike two. No balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Alex just needs to stay aggressive. Just underneath it on that last pitch. Let's keep that head in.
SPEAKER_07Here's the windup by Van Otterloo way outside. One ball, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's a good waist pitch by Van Otterloo trying to get Alex to chase him on the outside corner, but he was way out on that one.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, this logo reminds me when we were up at MOC. They had a D on their hats for Dutch, obviously. That hit sharply down in third baseman. He scoops it up, able to make the play over to first base. That looked like a lot like the Detroit Tigers D on their hats. So Rodriguez has retired third to first, and that's two outs for the Crusaders. That will bring Cal Geecey to the plate. He singled his last time up.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, you were talking about uh early in the year when we were talking about shifting, and one thing Coach Nelson does is he does that quite a bit. I mean, you noticed where the third baseman was playing Alex. He was right down the line, so he was playing Alex the pole. That's normally a base hit right down the third baseline because it's right on the line.
SPEAKER_07But yeah, and the third baseman even bobbled it a little bit and was still able to get uh Alex on the play. Here's pitch to Geeesey, swing and a miss for strike one. No balls, one strike. I'd like to see Cal get on and put some pressure on this defense.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I mean, with two outs, I mean you got. Yeah, who knows? Who knows what you can do?
SPEAKER_07Yep, swing and a miss, strike two. No balls, two strikes, two outs. We are tied two to two here in the top of the fourth inning. Crusaders scored their two in the top of the third, and Sergeant Bluff scored their two in the bottom of the third. Here's the pitch. Just missed it. Got under that. That's gonna be trouble again. Short stop.
SPEAKER_05Just got there.
SPEAKER_07Race is out there to make the play for out number three. Crusaders retired. Three up, three down in the top of the fourth. We'll go to the bottom of the fourth. We're tied two to two. Look forward to seeing you back here in 60.

SPEAKER_17And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_07Welcome back everybody to Sergeant Bluff. I'm Mike Skaggs, joined by John Tritt. We're heading to the bottom of the fourth here, score tied two to two. Sergeant Bluff will send Hayes, Anderson, and McCormick to the plate.
SPEAKER_05A lot of people in their chairs sitting along the wall that goes around the perimeter of the home plate, and then a lot of people in the bleachers. That ball. That ball popped up foul. Oh, just out of reach.
SPEAKER_07Hit off the roof of the Sergeant Bluff dugout. No balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Got a lot of people down the left field line, third base, sitting in their chairs. A lot of people down the first baseline sitting in their chairs. Looks like down there.
SPEAKER_07That's a great night for baseball. It really is. Good to see the support that uh Healing and Sergeant Bluff gives to their baseball teams and softball team that's going on behind us. That pitch in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Aiden at 54 pitches here and heading into the bottom of the fourth. Here's the pitch. That pitch was high. One ball, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we've had two just beautiful nights to play baseball, Mike, uh, Tuesday night in the mid-70s tonight. I think, what is it? About the same, maybe a little warmer.
SPEAKER_07Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_05Nice.
SPEAKER_07That hit hard past the diving Cal Geese down there at third base. Tommy Carroll fields it. Throw in. Hayes in with the double. That will bring Anderson to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that ball hit right down the line, just over the third base, literally uh state fair. Uh Gesey didn't have a shot at it.
SPEAKER_07No, I don't even I don't even know if the old Brooks Robinson would have been able to get to that ball. That was that was screaming down the third baseline there.
SPEAKER_05Yep.
SPEAKER_07Cowell laid out for it and tried to make a play. So Anderson steps in here. Fouls that first pitch off. No balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, now they got a guy in scoring position out there at second base. Uh Coach Nelson, yeah, he's not afraid. We've seen him. He's not afraid to lay a bunt down to put him in scoring position. Uh, you know, for a sacrifice fly.
SPEAKER_07Anderson struck out looking his last time up. Aiden has five strikeouts so far on the evening. Here's a pitch.
SPEAKER_05Good pitch outside corner.
SPEAKER_07Swing and a miss. No balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that's that slider. It looks like it's gonna just stay right over the middle of the plate and then just dips at the end. Yeah, gorgeous looking pitch. Now he's he's taking a step in because he doesn't want to miss that again. This is when you go back on the inside corner, Mike.
SPEAKER_07Anderson steps back in. Aiden looks in. Wind up the pitch. Pitch is high. One ball, two strikes. McCormick was due up next. Aiden checks the runner at second base. Deals to the plate. Outside. Good stop there by Peyton to keep that from getting to the backstop. Two balls, two strikes. Score tied two to two here in the bottom of the fourth inning. Peyton checks the runner at second base. Long look back at second base. Throws back. Everybody back in time.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he's got some good speed, and he'll get it. He gets a good leadoff over there. That's not a bad deal. Going back.
SPEAKER_07Check on the runner at second. Hayden comes home with the pitch. That pitch is popped up down the first baseline. Jonas giving Chase. Just out of play. Count remains. Two balls, two strikes. No outs here in the bottom of the fourth inning. Hayes down at second base with the leadoff double. Hayden comes set, checks the runner. Here's the pitch. That is trouble. That lands just inside the first baseline. Gas went out there. Fields that Hayes will score from second base. That makes a score three to two. Sergeant Bluff. And back to back doubles in this inning. Anderson down at second base with the RBI double, and that will bring McCormick to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, just good inside out hitting by Anderson. Got that ball. Got that ball. They're gonna kind of screw ball over there over the first baseman's head, down the line, into right. Field.
SPEAKER_07That some fireworks go off out there. I don't know what that was. Celebrating that that uh RBI double there.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, kind of. I thought, do we have lightning? I'm like, there's no way we have lightning. Yeah, we got a three to two lead, and those of you that didn't uh hear the first game, uh Sergeant Bluff took the first game eight to two uh just on some timely hitting. And uh Crusaders left quite a few runners on base but just couldn't finish. So here we go. They got a 3-2 lead, got a guy in second base in scoring position, no outs here, Mike, and and I'm I'm sure Coach Nelson's gonna try to find a way to get him over to third base here.
SPEAKER_07So McCormick will step in, grounded out second to first, his last time up. Here's the first pitch. He squares the bunt bunts that beautifully. Aiden's got one play over at first base, throws to Beck covering from second, and sacrifice one to four for out number one.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, and that's exactly what you need to do. I mean, so many coaches are afraid to do that in today's game. You bunt him over there now. You got you got speed at third base for coach Nelson, a ball on the ground, ball in the air, uh scores him from third base, and and and rightfully so. We're there we go. Got him at home. Yeah, beautiful play.
SPEAKER_07Beautiful ball bounced out to JJ, he throws home, and Peyton Erickson able to put the tag on. Knock that run down at the plate. That's two outs.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that's just gorgeous play by JJ. Got that ball out of his glove quick. Beautiful play by Peyton on the on the sweep tag, making sure that he got him before that hand got the home plate.
SPEAKER_07That'll bring Frankel to the plate. He grounded out short to first his first time up. Here's the pitch. Pitch high for ball one. Peyton fakes fakes the throw down to first base. Christian's back in plenty of time. Really impressed with Christian. He only moved up to Varsity a couple weeks ago. And he swings the bat really well. Here's the pitch. That's lined out to center field. Dylan Knapp feels that out there, gets it back in. Sergeant Bluff has runners at first and second with two outs. And that will bring the top of the order to the plate. Warren steps in. He is struck out and flown out to Gaswind his two times up.
SPEAKER_05Really need to hold him here to one run in this inning. Yeah, they got guys in first and second. We've got a force out at any base. So anything in the infield, you're just going to go to the closest base. Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_07Nope. Gets past Peyton. Runners will move up 90 feet. So now there's two runners in scoring position. Here in the bottom of the fourth, Sergeant Bluff has pushed one run across here. They lead three to two.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, and you got two guys in scoring position here. Yeah, you gotta you really gotta battle here. We gotta we gotta prevent these two guys from getting in. Want to keep this a three-two ball game. What you don't want to do is make this a three-run game going into the fifth inning.
SPEAKER_07Here's the pitch. In there for strike one. One ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, little league ball must be just getting over here. I get a lot of these kids coming from their little league games starting to come to the game.
SPEAKER_07Wind up by eight and here's the pitch. In there for strike two. One ball, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05That was a good backdoor slider. Uh started over there on the on the left side of the uh of the batter's box and just snuck in there on the black, the outside of the plate.
SPEAKER_07Pitch foul sharply down the third baseline. Count remain one ball, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05Got him one-two. You gotta be careful here. Okay, you don't want to give him something too good. You gotta try to nip and tuck on that corner. Maybe come on the inside. Here's the pitch. Swinging a miss.
SPEAKER_07Strike three. Warren goes down swinging for out number three. Sergeant Bluff pushes another run across here in the bottom of the fourth. They lead this one three to two. We'll talk to you again in one minute.

SPEAKER_05Yeah, let's get some more of our sponsors in here. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healing Baseball and Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_07Van Outerloo looks in here. That ball hit sharply out to center field. He's going back, he's on his horse. Gets under it for out number one. Very hard hit ball by Chase there out to the outfield.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that ball gets up in the air, gets above those lights. And it's hard for us to see it.
SPEAKER_07I'm sure the outfielders don't have a problem, but so Jonas steps in here with one out in the top of the fifth inning. Crusaders trail this one three to two.
SPEAKER_05I see Jonas get on here and give.
SPEAKER_07Takes account one ball, one strike. Low. Two balls, one strike. JJ Hope in the on deck circle.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, one thing you gotta be careful with as a catcher is to try to show up the umpire and he's holding that ball there for two or three seconds.
SPEAKER_07Three balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_07Work to walk out of it. Gets walk number two here. So healing has a runner down at first base with one out, and that'll bring JJ Hope to the plate. He popped out to the second baseman and singled and scored one of the two Healing runs.
SPEAKER_05I mean, we could score quick with Jonas at first base, JJ, JJ up. I mean, JJ's gonna get some pitches. I'd like to see him jump on that first one. That first one that he's gotta come in for a strike.
SPEAKER_07And Otterloo checks Jonas over at first base. Here's the pitch. Misses for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Peyton Erickson do up next. Check on the runner at first. Throws over. Jonah back in plenty of time.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Jonas trying to figure out the left-hander's move over there now that he's seen it.
SPEAKER_07A little bit bigger lead over there now. Here's the pitch by Van Otterloo. That pitch is high. Two balls, no strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, this is a good pitch right here to hit and run on. And he's gotta come with something good to JJ.
SPEAKER_07Shux Jonas over at first. Here's the pitch to the plate. Way outside, ball three. Three balls, no strikes. Peyton Erickson due up next.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I guess JJ will be looking all the way here. I'd be shocked if he even swings with this one. Three and oh count. Van Otelu's struggling to find the plate here.
SPEAKER_07That pitch in there for strike one. We got a lot of fireworks going off over to our right here. Three balls, one strike to JJ. Jonas down at first base after drawing the walk. Here's the pitch. Outside ball four. Back-to-back walks. Crusaders have a runner in scoring position with one out, and that brings Peyton Erickson to the plate. Peyton singled his first time up and sacrificed pitcher to first his last time up.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Coach Nelson calling a timeout here, trying to settle his pitcher down, throwing seven out of or eight out of his uh last nine pitches have been balls. And I think he's just trying to. What do we got going on here? Are they gonna make a move? Yeah. Yeah, they're gonna make a move. They're they're bringing in uh let's go ahead and take a one-minute break.
SPEAKER_07We'll figure out who's coming in, and uh we'll be back in one minute.

SPEAKER_17And now back to your Crusader sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_07We're back here. The new pitcher for Sergeant Bluff here in the top of the fifth inning is Jack Zelaney. He's got a 1-0 record. He's pitched 22 in two third innings. Teams are hitting 175 against him. He's given up 17 hits, nine runs, all have been earned. He has walked nine, he's hit one batter, and struck out six. He's got an ERA of 2.78. So Peyton Erickson will be the first one to get an opportunity to face young Mr. Zelane here.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I think Coach Nelson didn't uh kind of had a short uh leash on Van Otterle. Um but I get what he's doing here. He's trying to win this ballgame, and he's he's bringing in somebody I think he knows can throw strikes and maybe get a ground ball for a double play.
SPEAKER_07Here's pitch runners go. Here's throw down to third. It's high. Everybody is safe. So Jonas down at third. JJ Hope at second. No balls, one strike to count to Peyton Erickson. Chance here to drive in a couple runs with the base hit.
SPEAKER_05That's a gutsy move by Coach Taylor calling the double steal. But when you got that kind of speed on, you can't blame him.
SPEAKER_07Here's the windup in the pitch. That pitch high for ball one. One ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, now just got to put something in play. Get that run back here. Anything on the ground, anything in the air is going to score Jonas from third base here.
SPEAKER_07Long look in, and here's the pitch. That's hit hard out between first and second. JJ Hope on his way. He's in safely. Two-run single for Peyton Erickson. Puts the Crusaders ahead in this one four to three.
SPEAKER_05It's absolutely great hitting by Peyton. He waited, took the curveball inside out, drove that thing to right field.
SPEAKER_07And there goes our buddy, double H. H squared, Hendrix Heaton down to second base. Good job by Peyton. Crusaders lead this one four to three. They've got one out, and another runner still in scoring position. So doing in this game what they weren't able to do the last game, and that's get runners across, and they've got them in scoring position.
SPEAKER_05It's just what the doctor ordered for Peyton. He's had a good game. He's hit the ball hard. Even the one he he flew out, he hit it hard. Two line drives. He needed that. And he needed to produce, and he did.
SPEAKER_07Celini checks the runner at second, and here's the pitch. That pitch inside to Tommy Carroll for ball one. One ball, no strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, now we got an opportunity here. Got Hendricks down at second base. Situation baseball. You know, Coach Nelson's trying to think what Coach Wessman's doing here.
SPEAKER_07Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss by Tommy. One ball, one strike. And the World Cup game, U.S. and Turkey are tied one-to-one. Long look back to second base. Here's the pitch. Way outside. Ball two. Two balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Jack. Zelane trying to aim that ball in the outside corner. Look like he just overthrew it. Yeah, Tommy's just poised for a nice base hit here. I mean, he's he's due as well.
SPEAKER_07Here's the pitch. Swinging a miss, strike two. Two balls, two strikes. Speaking of soccer, how about 39-year-old Lionel Messi? Yeah. Five goals in the World Cup. Well, 41-year-old Ronaldo. Doesn't look like either one of them are slowing down at all.
SPEAKER_05No.
SPEAKER_07Here's the pitch. Gets away from the catcher.
SPEAKER_05There we go.
SPEAKER_07Heaton will head down to third base. So 90 feet away is another insurance run for the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_05And that's huge because Tommy's been hitting the ball in the air and creating fly balls. And anything he hits in the air now's going to score Hendricks from third base. So that's a huge miscue by Sergeant Bluff. Now you you got numerous ways you can score Hendricks in here.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, that pitch was a ball, brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes, runner at third, one out. Here's the pitch. Carroll hits that down to the first baseman. He's going to come home with it. I got him. And Hendricks is out at home. Yeah. He's retired for out number two.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Hendricks didn't get a great jump over there. And uh by time he first baseman made that play, good play at home plate, Brian, Sergeant Bluff.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, good good play defensively by the Warriors, and that will bring Dylan Knapp to the plate. He has popped out to the second baseman and popped out to the first baseman both times up. So Dylan's due to to produce something here for swing and a miss for strike one. No balls, one strike. Again, Crusaders have pushed two runs across here in this inning to take a four-three lead. That pitch outside ball one. One ball, one strike. Checks the runner at first. Here's the pitch. That might be trouble. I think it's going to be foul. Just foul.
SPEAKER_05One ball, two strikes. Yeah, just missed that down the down the right field line. Shout out to my uh two daughters and my wife heading back from Omaha. They were down there visiting my youngest daughter, Carly, on her birthday. So Rachel, Andrea, Lisa, my wife, and my grandson Parker, I think, are all heading back. Hope you're listening and enjoying uh Crusader baseball.
SPEAKER_07Happy birthday to little Carly Berger. I remember when she was uh what a sixth grader playing high school baseball in Summer League over at South Sioux. Two balls, two strikes, two outs. Just a few years ago, wasn't it? Yeah, it wasn't that long ago, John. We're still young. That was a long time ago. Oh man. Fun to watch. Yeah. And I know when she went great and I talked to a lot of people I know down in Omaha, and I said, you go got to go watch that kid play. That pitch fouled off. Two balls, two strikes, just hangs in there. Yeah, and they uh they texted me back and said she was everything you said she was. So she was fun to watch.
SPEAKER_05Well, thank you, Mike. Yeah, she's and she's still enjoying it now. She's coaching and and uh teaching uh kids to do the stuff stuff she was able to do, hopefully.
SPEAKER_07Selaney checks the runner at first. Here's the pitch. Dylan fouls that back.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's been a huge at bat for Dylan. I mean, he's I think he's on like number eight pitch. Yeah, he's this kid. He's still full count, or no, two and two still, but he's fouled off about three.
SPEAKER_07Two's are wild this inning. Two balls, two strikes, two out, two runs across for the Crusaders. They lead four to three. Laney checks the runner first. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss by Dillon for strike three. Dillon strikes out to end the inning, but the Crusaders push two runs across. They take the lead four to three. And we will see you back here in one minute.

SPEAKER_17And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_07Back here, headed to the bottom of the fifth inning. Crusaders lead this one four to two. Aiden Lefaver is still out there on the mound. He's got six strikeouts so far in this game. And Sergeant Bluff will send Wegger, Merrill, and Knifeel to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, this is a huge inning. This is 2-3-4, I believe, for Sergeant Bluff. And they've been producing big inning, big inning for Aiden right here.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, get get through this inning and keep that lead and get back up and Sergeant Bluff enters this game with a 16-13 record, 14-9 in the Missouri River Activities Conference. Here's the pitch. Just misses inside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it didn't miss much.
SPEAKER_07Wegger scored one of the three Sergeant Bluff runs in this game. Struck out his first time up. Yeah, I had a nice hit that that last at bat. There's a pitch that bounces in there. Two balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_05That was one of those ones that you just kind of held on a little too long and it uh got in the dirt.
SPEAKER_07Wind up by Aiden in the pitch. That pitch is high.
SPEAKER_05Three balls, one strike. Yeah, this is dangerous here. You gotta come back on him. You don't want to put Wagger on. He's got he's got some speed.
SPEAKER_07Aiden at 75 pitches so far. There's a wind up in the pitch. That pitch is high for ball four. Wegger draws the leadoff walk. He'll trot down to first base. That'll bring Merrill to the plate. He has walked and singled his two times up.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, this is this is uh Nelson Coach Nelson will hit and run with these this group. Uh you got Merrill who's who's their best hitter, uh makes good contact. And you got Wagger with some wheels over there, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it on the first or second pitch here.
SPEAKER_07There's a first pitch by Aiden. That's in there for strike one. No ball is one strike. Aiden comes to the plate. Carroll field that out in left field. First two men on for Sergeant Bluff here in the bottom of the fifth. That will bring Kneifel to the plate, who is struck out looking both times up.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Coach Welsman's going out talking. See what we got planned. We got guys on first and second for Sergeant Bluff here. This will be a chance for me to get a few sponsors in here, Mike. Uh let me get the sheet out here while we're waiting. Yeah, we're at uh Sioubody's shop, the Sioux City Musketeers, the Sioux City Sprinkler, Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, Sneakies, Chicken of Sioux City, Iowa, Soho's Kitchen and Bar, St. Augustine Indian Mission, Staber Meats, and Sunnybrook Dental. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healing Baseball and Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_07JJ Hope will be the new pitcher for the Crusaders. JJ comes in with a 1-0 record. He's pitched seven and the third innings. Teams are batting 324 against him. He's given up 11 hits. 11 runs, 10 of those earned. He's walked nine, hit one, struck out six, and he has an ERA of 9.55. So JJ comes in here in a bit of a jam, and I'm be interesting to see what they do with the rest of the infield. I saw Hendrix head out there.
SPEAKER_05So Hendricks is probably going to go over to second. I'm guessing they're moving uh Chase over to shortstop, Mike, and they'll keep Gesey at third.
SPEAKER_07Looks like it the way they're uh sitting out there behind behind home plate in the infield. So well, no, it looks like the way they're lined up, Chase is still at second base, but anything can happen. We'll let you know exactly what it is whenever we get back to uh to playing here.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, they did that is Hendricks out there, isn't there? I'm looking up. I'm surprised he's not taking some ground balls. Yeah, he's going over to second base.
SPEAKER_07Like he's heading to second, Cal heading over to third. Chase will play short. So JJ Hope comes in to try to get healing out of this bind here in the bottom of the fifth inning. Crusaders lead four to three. No outs for Sergeant Bluff. First two men have reached, and Knife is gonna step in.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, JJ's gonna make sure he's got the signals right with uh with Peyton, and they're discussing what they want to do with him right now. We got a force out at any base. Uh Coach Nelson's gonna try to manual. He got zero outs here. Uh guys on first and second, and he's got to get these guys in scoring position. Wouldn't be surprised to see him lay one down here, get him over there.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, absolutely. I could I could see that taking place. Get those two runners in scoring position, give you an opportunity to tie this game. So JJ steps up here. Let's see what he can do. Here's the first pitch. Run it runner from second goes. Throw down. Did he call him safe? He called him safe before he was ever there. He was not safe, folks.
SPEAKER_05Holy cow. There go, yeah, he got it. You have to go out there.
SPEAKER_07There comes Coach Welsman, and he's that the umpire out on the field didn't even move. He just stood there and uh great throw down by Peyton. And Cal was standing there with the ball and tagged him before he ever got his hands on the base.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, the umpire's trying to explain to him what he said. But he he was calling him safe before before he even slid.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. Yeah, he was a good two to three steps off the bag whenever Cal got the ball and tagged him. I'm really finding it hard to believe that they're gonna let this stand because home plate umpires listening to the explanation, but he had a much better angle at it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, you gotta boy, you're gonna, and I'll tell you what, if they change this call, then you're gonna see Coach Nelson go nuts. But the right call is he was out in third. He was out by a mile, actually.
SPEAKER_07Yep. So they're gonna continue to talk. And I'm sure the second base umpire is saying out.
SPEAKER_05Now here comes Coach Nelson.
SPEAKER_07And that, folks, that is the right call.
SPEAKER_05He's mad.
SPEAKER_07That is definitely the right call. He was out at third base. He was out.
SPEAKER_04He was out at third base. Nelson's hot.
SPEAKER_07The whole plane umpire's gonna get to find out.
SPEAKER_04Oh, here we go.
SPEAKER_07He's probably gonna find out what Coach Nelson had for lunch today.
SPEAKER_04They're gonna be that close. Oh, he's you know, the He's following him down the line.
SPEAKER_05He's uh He's gonna I'll tell you what, he's on the edge. He's telling him to go get in the box right now. He's gonna throw him. If he doesn't go in the box. He just politely told him to go sit in the corner. Mr. Umpire, I think excuse me, Mr. Umpire. What uh I think I got a little description here. Yeah, yeah. I think that's what was said.
SPEAKER_07Uh yeah, and I mean understandably he's gonna defend his player, but he had the same view that we had, and he knew that his guy was out.
SPEAKER_05Oh, I'm sure I'll see him after the game on the way out, and I'll say he'll give me that smirk.
SPEAKER_07So Merrill went down to second on all that hullabaloo and confusion. So Kenifel steps in, he is struck out twice. He's in there with a count of no balls, two strikes. And I'm gonna tell you right now, if he strikes, if he gets caught looking on a pitch that he disagrees with, it might be the last time we see Knife tonight because he is he's rubbed his mouth the first two times.
SPEAKER_05He won't he walked all the way over there last time with him, the umpire did.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, and after after what Coach Nelson had just had with his discussion, I can almost guarantee you this umpire is not in the mood to hear anybody complain.
SPEAKER_05This is good base, but I've been waiting for this all summer, Mike. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_07JJ checks the runner back at second base. And here's the pitch. Swing and a miss, strike three. He can't argue that one. No. Good morning, good afternoon, and good night, Mr. Knifel. That's out number two. That will bring Hayes to the plate with a runner at second base, two outs. Crusaders lead this one four to three. Chance to get out of a huge bind here in this inning. Turkey just took a two-to-one lead over the United States. JJ checks the runner at second base. He's gonna deal to the plate. That pitch in there for strike one. No balls, one strike, and he did not agree with that call.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, so now you got the fans, obviously, are in the now they're getting into it. Yeah, just a mess. And and I'm gonna go, I'm gonna tell you something here. Um you very rarely, matter of fact, it's it's you're probably something you don't do, and that it the you don't go to the home plate umpire for a play at third base. No. Um for him to admit that he didn't see the play two things. It means he was out of position, number one, out in the field, and that he didn't see it.
SPEAKER_07One ball, one strike, two outs, runner at second base. Crusaders lead this one. Peyton calls timeout.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we got something going on. Fans are chirping with each other. This is gonna k this is gonna get fun.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, it's it's an unfortunate circumstance of really youth and high school and college athletics today.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Peyton's going out. Uh there's a little discrepancy. I think Peyton called uh might have called the curveball, and and JJ threw a fastball, but they're getting it straightened out.
SPEAKER_07So Peyton's back where he needs to be. The umpire's behind him. Hayes steps in, one ball, one strike, two outs. JJ trying to work his way out of a jam here in the bottom of the fifth inning and keep the Crusaders in front. Here's the pitch. Inside. Two balls, one strike. I'm sure tongue in cheek, the Sergeant Bluff parents are probably saying that was a strike.
SPEAKER_05Oh, you got a whole group of these kids that are sitting right below us, and they're they're having fun, they're hollering. Oh, it's all good. It's all good. I love it.
SPEAKER_07Here's the pitch. That pitch is high. Three balls, one strike. Anderson is due up next.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, this just uh Hayes doesn't hurt you. You don't want to make a mistake and let him get something that he can hit in the gap. You got some got some speed down there at second base.
SPEAKER_07Big pitch here for JJ.
unknownGood.
SPEAKER_07Swinging a miss. Good scoop by Peyton. Strike two. Peyton able to keep that ball in front of him, keep the runner from advancing to third base. So that'll bring the count full on Hayes. Three balls, two strikes. Runner at second base, two outs. Crusaders lead four to three. One of the guys way back on Sioux City Radio used to say, Hug your radios, Crusader fans. I'm pulling them all off the night, Johnny.
SPEAKER_04You are. Oh.
SPEAKER_07JJ checks the runner at second. He turns, throws back.
SPEAKER_05Runner safely back in. You know, we haven't seen JJ in a while, and I like what I see him so far. I mean, he's throwing some decent pitches, throwing strikes. He's got a little velocity on the ball.
SPEAKER_07Full count. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. Mama Mima, Papa Pia. That's a strikeout. Out number three. That'll retire Sergeant Bluff in the fifth inning. They get a couple runners on, unable to score. We'll head to the top of the six. Crusaders lead this one four to three. We'll be back in 60.

SPEAKER_17And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_07We're back here in Sergeant Bluff, headed to the top of the sixth inning after a very eventful bottom of the fifth inning. Crusaders will send Nathan Gaswent, Alex Rodriguez, and Cal Gesey to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it was really nice seeing our bench just come out and high five and JJ and everybody. And we needed that. We needed that inning.
SPEAKER_07First pitch in there to Nathan. That's in there for strike one. No balls, one strike. Yeah, that was can't say enough about that play by Peyton and Cal. I mean, throw down by Peyton. He put it right on target and Cal got it. Oh, that's a little two-hopper back to the pitcher by Nathan. That was a for out number one.
SPEAKER_05That was a darn it. I didn't mean to swing swing and ball just tapped off the bat.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, absolutely. We're gonna have Jackson Vickery step in here to bat for A-Rod. But yeah, I mean that, you know, big big on Cal's part down there. Just second game at third base so far, and and able to field that and just put the tag on and then just stand over there and watch the show.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Yeah, he he did everything right. And uh I mean it was the right call. Bottom line, it was the right call.
SPEAKER_07Yep, it it definitely was. No balls, one strike. Calgeese is due up next. I can just about begin to guarantee you this umpire's ready to be done.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah. You know, I mean, you know, he was in the middle of the controversial call at first base in the last game. Yep.
SPEAKER_07So Yeah, he hasn't had his best night. Let's just put it that way. No. Here's the pitch. Two balls, one strike. One out. Top of the sixth. Here's the pitch to Vickery. That pitch is in there. Two balls, two strikes. Crusaders lead four to three. We're in the top of the sixth inning.
SPEAKER_05I mean, Jack uh Zelaney gives you something to hit. He's throwing that ball right down the middle.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. Pitch floats in right by his chin for ball three. That brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. That bounces in there for ball four. Vickery hustles down to first base with a walk, and that will bring Cal Geecey to the plate. Cal has singled and popped out to the shortstop his two times up.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I just got underneath at his last at bat. Dipped a little bit. And uh see if he can get that back on track. A little outside. Oh, he called it.
SPEAKER_07Pitch. No balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, but I thought that ball was a little outside, but uh borderliner and and must have caught the black on the outside of the plate.
SPEAKER_07It's alright. See Bob and Laura hanging out down the third baseline there outside the fence. Here's the pitch. That's way inside for ball one. One ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we got to teach our players just to stand their ground and stay there and let that ball hit them.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, don't don't don't push your knee out. Just stand there and let it come to you because it's it's far enough inside. It'll hit you. Here's the pitch. He squares. Oh. And that's called for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Cal looks a little frustrated with himself. On that one. Here's the pitch by Zelane. There we go. And he didn't have to, he didn't have to. He didn't move. Hit by pitch.
SPEAKER_05Zelane's not throwing. That ball wasn't thrown hard enough to hurt you. So he just stood there and let it hit him. Just like I just ordered up, Mike.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I'm I'm sure Cal will go home and say it, Mom, it hurts really bad.
SPEAKER_05He says I I heard John from the press box saying just stand there and let it hit him.
SPEAKER_07Yep. Here's a wind up in the pit squares. There we go. Nice bunt by Beck. There we go. Battle advance runners to second and third, and that will bring up Jonas Jensen. Runners at second and third, two outs. Crusaders have a chance to put an insurance run or two here on the board.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I like that. Yeah, I mean, get the guys in second third. Now you got two guys in scoring position. Yeah. Opportunity for Jonas to do something very special here. One thing, Jonas' got to be aggressive at the plate.
SPEAKER_07Good time for a pass ball. There we go. That's gonna score one. He's in there safely.
SPEAKER_05That is awesome.
SPEAKER_07Vickery scores from third base on the pass ball. That makes the score five to three Crusaders.
SPEAKER_05And Mike, that and that's right there white why small ball is great. You get guys in scoring position and you don't know what's gonna happen. You get that guy over to third, you don't know what's gonna happen. Yep. And and that's a perfect example.
SPEAKER_07And Cal able to get to third on the pass ball. So now they've got still out over the shortstop. Nice piece of hitting by Jonas there. Cal Geecey scores. That makes the score six to three. Two runs for the Crusaders here in this inning. And we're still going. RBI single for Jonas Jensen. He pumped up over there, Mike.
SPEAKER_04Look at those. He gives the double fist.
SPEAKER_07That'll bring JJ Hope to the plate. I was looking to see if Jonas's family was out here. They were in the front row Tuesday night, and hopefully they were here and got to see that one. That pitch outside, ball one. One ball, no strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it was just beautiful inside out hitting. Uh taking that ball to right field or to left field. He's a right-handed hitter, so took it the opposite field into left center.
SPEAKER_07JJ steps back in. Zelini checks the runner at first. That pitch bounces in there. Two balls, no strikes.
SPEAKER_05Okay. Well, they got him at one and one. I don't think that's right.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, unless I miss the No, now they've got O-1.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, they got there. Yeah, something's not right here. No.
SPEAKER_07It's two pitches and they both bounced in there, so it's got to be two and oh. But here's pitch. That pitch gets away. Jonas will take off down to second base. So JJ with an opportunity to drive in another run. They've got the count 2 1 on the board.
SPEAKER_05I think it should be 3 0. I think you're right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_07I think it's 3 0, but I've got it in the book at 2 1. One. We'll just either way.
SPEAKER_05JJ gets a gap or here. We're scoring a run.
SPEAKER_07We'll see what happens after this pitch. Here's the pitch, the plate, and it's inside. It was two and one. That's three balls, one strike. Erickson do up next.
SPEAKER_05Trying to think when he's he must call that one in the dirt.
SPEAKER_07He must have called that a strike. I never saw him signal a strike, but three balls, one strike. Here's the pitch. There's a he lines that over shortstop. Jonas is on his horse. He's going to score from second base. Yeah, you're not going to be able to do that. RBI. And JJ, as JJ does, he took off to second base on the throw home. So JJ has the RBI single and gets the second on the throw home. That makes the score eight to three. No. Six to three.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I think.
SPEAKER_07We've scored three. Seven to three Crusaders.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_07I gotta stop trusting the guy.
SPEAKER_05Well, I'm looking over there. He's got six, but I think you're right, Mike. It's seven to three. We scored. I've got to stop.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, because we had we had four and we scored three. So I went to school in Texas, but I know that four plus three is seven.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Our Sir Jethro Bodine Mathematics is uh I was ciphering really good there.
SPEAKER_07I I was able to only do it all on two hands. Yeah, now he's got seven to three. All right.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we're we're we got it. We're we're on.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. That'll bring Peyton Erickson to the plate with the chance to drive in another run here. That pitch high, ball one, one ball, no strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Peyton did a great job his last at that, and and matter of fact, just really come out of it this game. Three hard hit balls, two for two for base hits. Here's the pitch by Zelane.
SPEAKER_07Catches that outside corner. One ball, one strike. Carroll on deck. JJ Hope out at second base. Here's the windup in the pitch. There's another set. Lineback over second baseman and JJ Hope. Folks, if you've been paying attention, you know what he's doing. JJ scores from second base. That makes a score eight to three. Nice piece of hitting there by Peyton Erickson. Crusaders have pushed four runs across in this inning, and they're still going. Let's see who the courtesy runner is going to be. It's going to be Frelick.
SPEAKER_05I'm going to tell you, the last two at bats have been actually two of the best at bats I've seen Peyton all season long. Kept his weight back, took what the pitcher gave him, and drove it uh into center field and into center right. Um his last two at bats, uh, three RBIs. Good for him.
SPEAKER_07Very early in the season, I had that conversation with him. He said, I just need to start hitting the ball. And he went on a streak where he's hit the ball really well and kind of fell off, but he's he's really stepped it up tonight. Yeah. Tommy Carroll steps in. We've got Ryden Frelick down at first base as a courtesy runner.
SPEAKER_05Now I'd like to see uh we need to see Tommy start getting kind of getting out of his funk here a little bit, start putting together some ropes, some base hits.
SPEAKER_07Tommy fouls that first pitch off. No balls, one strike, two outs. Runner at first base. Crusaders have pushed four across in this inning. They lead eight to three. Here's the pitch. Uh drops in there on the inside corner for strike two. No balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that was either a couldn't tell if that was a changeup or a looping curve ball, but he just really changed the speed on it and just kind of looped in.
SPEAKER_07Jack of Frelick over at first. Here's the pitch. Tommy hits that out to short. He's got to go way over to his right, bobbles it a little bit. And Tommy beats that out. That is pure speed single right there, folks.
SPEAKER_05Yep, absolutely. And that's a and that's a base hit. That was that was uh picked up clean, fielded clean, and a good throw. He just beat it out.
SPEAKER_07That'll bring Dylan Knapp to the plate with runners at first and second and two outs. Dylan had a chance to drive in a couple more runs here.
SPEAKER_05Sometimes that's all you need, Mike. You need that just that that base hit to get that in your head. You know, uh baseball's so mental and uh it's so hard to get out of a funk, and sometimes it's just something like that that can just do it.
SPEAKER_07Yep, Dylan 0 for three in this game, popped out to second, popped out to first, and struck out. So young Mr. Knapp is due for a base hit here. Celini checks the runner at second. That pitch, throw down to first. And everybody back safe. I think that hit Tommy as it was coming in there. So it's two balls, no strikes. Ninth batter in the inning for the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, this is not gonna help Mr. uh Jack Zlaney's uh ERA for this inning.
SPEAKER_07That pitch fouled off. Two balls, one strike. Checks the runners. He's gonna deliver to the plate, and Dylan fouls that one off out of play. Two balls, two strikes, two outs, two on. Got twos everywhere.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Dylan, uh Dylan nearly needs something here. Here's the pitch. There we go.
SPEAKER_07Oh, just a little bit early on that one. Just foul down the third baseline.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that's that hanging changeup curveball he throws, and he just roped it in this foul.
SPEAKER_07So everybody goes back. Two balls, two strikes, two outs, two on. Check of the runner. Here's the pitch. Good. Fights that one off. Count remains. Two balls, two strikes. Crusaders have been able to push four runs across here in the their half of the sixth, and they lead this one eight to three. Here's the pitch. Fouls that one out of play. I like everybody yells duck, but then everybody looks up. Never quite understood that one.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, good at bat for Dylan. Making this guy work.
SPEAKER_07Fouled that one off.
SPEAKER_05I can't tell that hit the umpire or umpire's walking.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I can't tell. I thought he was out of baseballs, but the way he's kind of walking around.
SPEAKER_05Or he's he might be giving the catcher a little time, maybe, maybe to hit the catcher. Excuse me. I mean, yeah, I mean Dylan steps back in. Two on, two outs. And we still got guys out here. Two outs, doing a lot of things with two outs. Here's the pitch. Oh.
SPEAKER_07Swing and a miss. Fooled him on that one for strike three. Yeah. That'll retire the Crusaders in the top of the sixth. They push four runs across to take an eight to three lead. We'll head to the bottom of the sixth, and we'll be back with you guys in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_14You're listening to FM 88.1, KFHC, Ponco Sioux City, and K O I A, Storm Lake, Siouxland Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_17And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic Radio Station.
SPEAKER_07Welcome back, folks. We're headed to the bottom of the sixth inning. Crusaders lead this one 8-3. Sergeant Bluff will send Anderson, McCormick, and Christians to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we've been waiting for that last inning for all night here, Mike. I mean, we've been capable of it. As a team, we're capable of that.
SPEAKER_07First pitch, swing and a miss, strike one, no balls, one strike. JJ came in that last inning, was able to work his way out of a jam and hold Sergeant Bluff scoreless.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I like what I see out of JJ so far. Here's the pitch. You know, the thing about it is, Mike, he's not trying to fool anybody. He he's got good velocity. He's hitting his corners, throwing a lot of fastballs, mixes in the curveball.
SPEAKER_07Here's pitch, swinging a miss, strike two, one ball, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, but the main thing is he's just hitting spots. That's all he's doing. Peyton, they're working, as Coach Taylor says, east to west. We say inside outside, but that's really what they're doing. They're just working inside outside.
SPEAKER_07Here's pitch, swinging a miss, strike three.
SPEAKER_05Out number one. Peyton's been pumped up, man. He's having a good game. He's hitting, he's just throwing guys out tonight. Just like I said, just what the doctor ordered for Peyton to have a night like this. Yeah.
SPEAKER_07That'll bring McCormick to the plate. Another thing I love about having Cal Geesey in the lineup is it gives us one more guy out there with the old-style stirrups and baseball pants pulled up the right way.
SPEAKER_05I'll tell you what, anybody that's played baseball, uh Cal Geese's got the perfect infielder's glove. Anybody that that played second base or third base, what I'm talking about is it's a smaller glove, and it's almost just a little bit bigger than your hand. It's not much bigger. And it's so you can get the ball out of there quicker. And uh, and that goes probably back to his dad and his his grandpa. They were both good ball players. It's probably his grandpa's glove.
SPEAKER_07It could be. Here's first pitch, swing and a miss, strike one, no balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Well, I'm so old, Mike. I was the assistant coach, one of the volunteer assistant coaches on the team when his dad was playing back in '99.
SPEAKER_07Oh, geez, you are old. Here's pitch. That pitch outside for ball one. One ball, one strike. Christians is on deck. He's had a good night at the plate. There's a wind up by JJ in the pitch. Yeah, just don't overdo it, JJ. Here, just get back to what you're doing best. He's feeling a little bit. He's got a couple, he's had a couple strikeouts.
SPEAKER_05Yep. Yeah, just get back to playing catch with Peyton and just throwing that ball in there. Make him hit it. Got a five-run lead here.
SPEAKER_07JJ working quickly. Here's the pitch. Just misses three balls, one strike. He didn't miss much on that one. Just a little high and out.
SPEAKER_05Excuse me.
SPEAKER_07JJ with the delivery. That's in there for ball four. That was right across the plate for ball four. So McCormick draws the walk. He'll try it down to first base, and that'll bring Christians to the plate. He has singled and reached on a fielder's choice and scored a run tonight.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that was a good pitch by JJ. One of those ones that, yeah, hopefully umpire gives him one here because he definitely deserved that one.
SPEAKER_07JJ with the pitch. That pitch fouled off out of play. Strike one. No balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, now you got situation here. You got guy on first base. We got a force out at second. Um you want to manufacture a double play ball, anything to short, second, even a hard hit to third. You got a chance at a double play.
SPEAKER_07JJ steps off. Steps back on. Everybody's in where they need to be. JJ, a long look at the runner at first base, and here's the pitch inside. One ball, one strike. One out, one on. Crusaders lead this one eight to three, and we're in the bottom of the sixth inning. JJ checks McCormick and deals. That's in there for strike two. And he is really delayed with his calls. Yeah. One ball, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he he really is. You really gotta you don't know for like three seconds if it's a ball or a strike.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, so for the poor folks at home with a five to seven second delay, it's a really long time. Pitch fouled off out of play. Peyton gives chase, not able to get there. Count remains. One ball, two strikes. Crusaders scored two in the third, two in the fifth, four in the sixth. Sergeant Bluff scored two in the third and one in the fourth. JJ checks McCormick at first, throws over. McCormick back in plenty of time.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I don't think McCormick's going anywhere, but you never know with Coach Nelson. So I mean, and it's alright. It gives him a chance to work on his move over there. Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_07That pitch way outside. Two balls, two strikes. Frank will do up next.
SPEAKER_05Gaswin playing a little shallow. Uh Dylan about normal. Tommy Carroll playing a little deeper.
SPEAKER_07Here's the pitch. Bounces that in there. Three balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, JJ's just got to settle down here. Come back, go after this guy. Let him hit it. Make him hit it. Give him something good.
SPEAKER_07JJ with the pitch. That's ball four. Back-to-back walks for Sergeant Bluff here. Puts runners at first and second with one out, and that'll bring Frankel to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Peyton's going out. Give him talking to him a little bit. Come on, JJ. Just calm down, throw some strikes. Nope. We've got to force out at any base. Anything hit back to so if it's hit back to Geese to the if he has to go to his right, he'll just take that third first. Anything to Gesey straight up or to his left, we'll go for the double play down in, you know, second base to first. Anything up the middle, we're going for a double play up the middle.
SPEAKER_07JJ steps off and Peyton goes out to have a little conversation. Again, our next broadcast will be next Tuesday from Bishop Mueller Field. Crusaders will take on Council Bluff's Abraham Lincoln. Pregame 345, first pitch around 4 o'clock.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, those will be huge games.
SPEAKER_07Oh, the good thing about it, by the time they play on Tuesday, the postseason pairing should be out. So they may not have an effect on how things could look. But here's the pitch. That pitch lined out to center field. Runner at second had to hold up, make sure it wasn't caught. So that'll load the basis for Sergeant Bluff here in the bottom of the sixth inning.
SPEAKER_05Good piece of hitting. Good piece of hitting by Sergeant Bluff there. Not so sure why that guy was holding up. I didn't, I think that was a hit all the way, but hey, that's good for the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I think he was, I think he played it overly cautious because Dylan was deep enough that he wasn't going to get to that ball.
SPEAKER_05No. Yeah, Coach Wisely's coming out here and saying, okay, this guy at third means nothing. Let's get the double play up the middle unless it's hit straight at Geecey to where he can just step on third base and go to first. But let's just get the out. Let's get you know the second out. Yeah, if you're coach Nelson here, you got you got situation here. You you got bases loaded, you got an opportunity to knock this thing down. And I mean you got the tying run in the circle on deck, and and you can make this a ball game here with one hit. Anything in the gap's gonna score two or three guys here.
SPEAKER_07Yep. The nice thing about it with five-run lead is one swing is not gonna tie it for you.
SPEAKER_05It's not gonna tie it, but but then all of a sudden now you got a ball game.
SPEAKER_07Warren will step in. He is struck out twice and flown out to right field.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, ball's hit back to JJ. He's got to come home. He'll go home first. Cal's playing right at the grass. So Cal's gonna come home, it looks like.
SPEAKER_07JJ with the pitch. Catches that outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike. So when they when coach was out there having his conversation, the whole infield's in. When you were an umpire, uh did you get a little frustrated when you made that walk all the way out there? And right when you get there, they say, okay, we're done.
SPEAKER_05No, you're you don't they're they're gonna take what the umpire gives. So he's gonna go out there and he's gonna talk to his guys as until the umpire comes out. That's just kind of the unwritten rule. And he's got kind of an inside monitor clock up in his head saying, okay, I'm out, I'm gonna give him so much time, and then I'm going out. One ball, one strike, pitch outside, ball two, two balls, one strike. No room for him, JJ, here, so let's get some strikes. Let's let's let him hit it here.
SPEAKER_07JJ pitching from the stretch with the bases loaded. Here's the pitch. That pitch is inside. Three and one. No place to put him. Do up next is Wegger.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I mean, we're at the top of the order. This is dangerous. We're in dangerous territory here because you've got good hitters for the next four. Next four guys.
SPEAKER_07JJ with a long look here. Steps off. Warren steps out. Now everybody's ready to go. Warren steps back in. JJ looks in. Here's the pitch. At pitch is high. He walks him. That'll drive in a run to make this score eight to four. Now you got the tie in run up the plate here, Mike. Bases are still loaded. With one out. That'll bring Wegger to the plate. He has struck out singled and walked.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, now all of a sudden JJ's just he's kind of fallen out of the of his zone. He's there we go.
SPEAKER_07That's a big pitch, swinging him as strike one to Wager.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he kind of got, you know, he was in a rhythm in that first inning, inning and a half here. And he's just kind of got out of his rhythm a little bit.
SPEAKER_07JJ comes set, the pitch. That's in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05Good pitch by JJ. Keep that ball low. Oh, this is a huge, huge bat. For both teams, actually.
SPEAKER_07JJ takes his time with a long look in, and here's the pitch to Wegger. Oh, just high. That pitch is high. One ball, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05Didn't miss by much.
SPEAKER_07JJ comes set, and here's the pitch. That's hit under Jonas' glove at first. One runner will score. Station to station baseball by Sergeant Bluff there. That makes a score eight to five. Bases still loaded with one out.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that ball just got under Jonas' glove.
SPEAKER_07And that will bring Merrill to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Such a dangerous hitter. Now you got their top hitter up. You got bases loaded, and you got one out.
SPEAKER_07He's walked and singled twice tonight. And huge, huge at bat here for both teams. Base is loaded, one out. Sergeant Bluff has pushed two runs across here in the bottom of the sixth. Healing still leads eight to five. That pitch fouled off for strike one. No balls, one strike. Not as comfortable a lead as it was when he started this inning.
SPEAKER_05No. I mean, you gotta manufacture something here. You gotta get a ground ball.
SPEAKER_07Here's the pitch. That pitch. Fouled off down the first baseline for strike two. No balls, two strikes. It'd be nice to fool him with one here and get the strike out.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I'd like to see him throw a slider or a curveball here. Something, something he's got to chase, but but you don't want to get out of the reach of uh Peyton.
SPEAKER_07JJ Deals, here's a pitch. That's it down to Jonas at first, bounces off of him. He's able to field it, throw it to JJ, get the out at first base, but that will bring another run in. That will make the score eight to six. Sergeant Bluff has runners at second and third with two outs.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, you got the tying run at second base here. I mean, how huge is this out here, Mike? And you got a hot hitter on deck with Hayes. I believe that's Hayes in the hole in the on-deck circle.
SPEAKER_07Knife is struck out looking twice and struck out swinging his last time up.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he's been very frustrated at the plate.
SPEAKER_07There's the first pitch. Swing and amiss, strike one. No balls, one strike. Sergeant Bluff has pushed three across here in the bottom of the six to cut the lead eight to six. Here's the pitch. Just missed for ball one. One ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_05I don't know. I didn't miss by much, if anything. It had to been low.
SPEAKER_07Hayes is due up next.
SPEAKER_05Those that uh just coming on and listened to us, uh Sergeant Bluff took the first game eight to two, and Crusaders have a lead here eight to six in the second game. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss, strike two. Good pitch. Here we go, Mike.
SPEAKER_07One ball, two strikes, two outs. Runners at second and third. Crusaders lead eight to six. We're in the bottom of the sixth inning.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, this is a big pitch here. I mean, just go after him. There we go.
SPEAKER_07Swing and a miss. He struck him out. That is four strikeouts on the evening for Mr. Knife, and that will retire the side. Sergeant Bluff pushes three across. We're going to the top of the seventh. Healing eight. Sergeant Bluff six. See you in 60.

SPEAKER_07First pitch of Nathan fouled off. No balls, one strike. No balls, two strikes. After a good hitting first game, Nathan has popped out to the catcher, popped out to the shortstop, and grounded out pitcher to first. So here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_05That's that efus ball that he had. That's basically all he's doing. He's just throwing an ethos ball in there, Mike. And I don't want everybody to look up the word ethos, but what that is is basically he's just lobbing it in there.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, one ball, two strikes. Here's the pitch. There we go. Nathan hits that between oh, shortstop makes a great diving stop, not able to field it cleanly. Nathan on with the single to get things started for the Crusaders here in the top of the seventh.
SPEAKER_05Oh, Nathan, sometimes, you know, sometimes it's just not pretty, Mike, and and it just works.
SPEAKER_07It just works. I'm being as polite as I can be when I say this, kid, guys. If if you haven't met Nathan, he's a country boy. And I mean, he just if you if you watched him walk and you talked to him, you'd say there's no way he's an athlete, but he's a true athlete. Oh my lord, he's a delight to be around such a nice kid and always has a smile on his face. Uh that'll bring Vickery to the plate. Vickery walked his first time up and scored a run.
SPEAKER_05You don't have a choice in the Gaswin family. You're a hard worker, man. Absolutely. You know Grandpa and you know the boys and their sister, trust me.
SPEAKER_07And as much as much as dad watch loves watching him play baseball, he cannot wait for the baseball season to be done and get an extra hand out there and get and get some work done before Nathan leaves two weeks later to head off to college. So that's right. I'll miss that family whenever whenever baseball is done. Two balls, no strikes. Here's a pitch to Vickery. That's in there for a strike. Two balls, one strike. Cal Geecey is due up next.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, let's make something here. We need to get this insurance run. We need another run here. I I'm not comfortable with two right now, Mike, so let's uh let's get a third insurance run in here.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. Here's the pitch. Squares.
SPEAKER_05Oh, I like the idea though.
SPEAKER_07Found that back. Two balls, two strikes. Yeah, I like that. USA has tied Turkey two to two in the World Cup game.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, the game means I think we tie them. I'm I'm not sure. Do we did we win our our pool or is this?
SPEAKER_07I think we can win with the with at least two. We win the pool. Yeah, we're moving moving on either way. It's just if if you win your pool, obviously you get a better draw in the next round. But uh if if my daughter Mary Kate or Alicia are listening, text me and tell me exactly what's going on.
SPEAKER_05So we're either we're either a number one or a two seed out of our pool.
SPEAKER_07That last pitch in there was a ball, three balls, two strikes. There we go. And now we've got runners at first and second with no outs. Vickery draws the walk. Gaswin will trot down to second base.
SPEAKER_05You got a hot hitter coming up here.
SPEAKER_07Yep, bringing Cal Geezy up. We've got he's got a single, popped out to the shortstop and hit by a pitch last time. And it's a wonder he's still walking as hard as that pitch was. Uh and score to run his last time up. He'll take that eas hit by pitch every every opportunity he gets.
SPEAKER_05Love to see him hit that gap or here.
SPEAKER_07Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_05That called strike, yeah.
SPEAKER_07Delayed strike call. No balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's a good pitch on the outside corner.
SPEAKER_07Selaney up to 62 pitches. Here's the pitch. That pitch drops in there for strike two. Cat a little frustrated with himself on that one.
SPEAKER_05Well, I mean, you you don't know what it he just lobs it. He's just lobbing it in there, and then you're just it just freezes you.
SPEAKER_07Here's the pitch. That pitch bounces in there for a ball, one ball, two strikes. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05It's like a it's it it's the only way I can describe it, it's like a slow pitch softball.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I was just gonna say it's like being a Chautauqua Park. You look for him to lob it in there and and take four or five steps back. So if it's hit, it doesn't take its head off. Here's the pitch. There it is. That pitch floats in there. Two balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, good at bat for Cal here. He's got him back even.
SPEAKER_07Chase Beck do up next. Runners at first and second. No outs for the Crusaders. They lead eight to six here in the top of the seventh. Here's the pitch. He hits that. Yeah. Second baseman slides over, makes the play second to first, but Cal pushes two runners into scoring position with that sacrifice. That'll bring up Chase Beck.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, good piece of hitting by Cal. Uh inside, outside. Um took that ball to second base, in between second and first, so he didn't have a play at second. So now you got two guys in scoring position.
SPEAKER_07That'll bring Beck to the plate. He has hit into a double play, flown out to center field, and sacrifice.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_07Pitcher to first. We're gonna have another pitching change. Let's go ahead and take a two-minute break, and we will be back.

SPEAKER_17And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_07Welcome back, everybody. We're in the top of the seventh. Crusaders have two men on with one out. They lead Sergeant Bluff 8-6, and the new pitcher for Sergeant Bluff is number one, Kyler Tyndall. He has a two-and-one record with one save. Teams are batting 200 against him. He's given up 13 hits, eight runs, seven have been earned, six walks, two hit batters, and nine strikeouts. His ERA is 2.94. Lefty coming in.
SPEAKER_05Zelane threw about, I think what was he up to? He was close to 80, I think.
SPEAKER_07He'd gotten up there. He'd had a couple batters that really worked him.
SPEAKER_05It's a good move. You're bringing in a lefty. You got to try to put out the fire here by the Crusaders. You can't give up another run.
SPEAKER_07First pitch to Beck.
SPEAKER_05Oh.
SPEAKER_07Outside for strike one.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, you called that one.
SPEAKER_07No balls, one strike. Infield is drawn in. Try to cut down the run at the plate. Here's the pitch. That pitch fouled off out of play. One ball, one strike. Yeah, nice swing by Jonas Jensen do up next. Had a big single the last time up. Pretty excited down there, pumped up after that base hit.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I'd like to see Chase get that get a nice rope in the gap. Be good for him to get it get a couple RBIs in. Look at look at it. Look at it. Look where he's a dark.
SPEAKER_07Here's the pitch. Way outside.
SPEAKER_05Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_07He didn't call that a strike, did he? No, no. I was looking at board shows one ball, two strikes. I think it's two and one, but here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_05He fouled that one off and then he called the first pitch. Strikes that, yeah. That was a huge out.
SPEAKER_07Chase strikes out for out number two. That'll bring Jonas to the plate.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, big bat for Jonas. You've got an opportunity to bring some more runs in.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, got a chance to get some insurance runs here for the Crusaders as they're trying to get a split in this double header. Like John said, they lost the first game eight to two, trying to come back and win this one.
SPEAKER_05Oh, it hit him. He's out. Yeah, darn it.
SPEAKER_07He was not in fair territory, though. Home plate umpires saying Nathan was. He was hit down the third baseline. And Nathan was in foul territory, and the ball hit him. And they're calling Nathan out. So that'll be out number three.
SPEAKER_05That's a tough call. That's a tough call.
SPEAKER_07Coach Taylor wisely voiced his opinion and then walked straight to the dugout because don't know what else to say on that one, folks. We'll go ahead and keep it here as we get ready to go to the bottom of the seventh.
SPEAKER_05The only thing I can think of in defense of the home plate up is that if that ball was fair and it hit him anywhere in fair territory, then he's out. What Coach Taylor's arguing is that he was outside of the line and the ball hit him in foul territory. He can't see if that ball's on the line or or what have you.
SPEAKER_07So Yeah, it's I mean, and you you've done it, and I've done a little bit of officiating.
SPEAKER_05It's not easy. It it's not, and that's a tough, that's really a tough call. But if it hit him anywhere in ter fair territory, it's the right call, and he's out. Bottom line is here, we got a two-run lead. We're in the bottom of the seventh inning. JJ just needs to throw strikes, um, and we need to get out of this inning.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, they're gonna Sergeant Bluff is gonna send Hayes, Anderson, and McCormick to the plate. Yeah, Hayes reached on an error his first time, he doubled and scored a run and struck out.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Hayes is dangerous. He's got some he's got some wheels, and uh you really got to get him right away. You you can't put him on base.
SPEAKER_07So we get ready to head to the bottom of the seventh here. Hayes is gonna step in to face JJ Hope. Two-run lead for the Crusaders looking to finish this one off and get the split.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, the thing is, I mean, let's see where, you know, if you're Cal, you gotta kind of play up. You gotta you gotta give him a little respect on speed and and the opportunity he might lay one down.
SPEAKER_07There's the wind up and the pitch outside. One ball, no strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, JJ's been having a little trouble finding the zone here. Let's see if he can get back going here.
SPEAKER_07There's the pitch. That pitch is outside. Two balls, no strikes. Yeah, they're gonna and and I couldn't see who it was, but between innings, someone came in from the bullpen to so someone has been throwing down there. We just I just don't know who it was. Right. Here's the windup in the pitch. That pitch way outside for ball three. Three balls, no strikes. Really can't afford to put any runners on here and get bring that tying run to the plate. Here's the pitch by JJ. That bounces in there for ball four, four-pitch walk. That'll send Hayes down to first base, and that will bring Anderson to the plate.
SPEAKER_05That's gonna be it, I think, for JJ. Here comes Coach Wesselman. Um I'm trying to see who we had out there, and might be Moravic, but I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_07Anderson has struck out twice and doubled. Yeah, yeah. Looks like Mason's gonna come in. Hendricks is headed back to the dugout. So Mason's gonna come in to pitch.
SPEAKER_05I mean, this is what Mason does. I mean, guys, folks, uh Mike and I have seen this several times this year. Mason's come in and with jams, and he's been our go-to guy in this situation, and and here he is.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, he he thrives in times like this. I mean, it's as he airmelts that first pitch. I always like it when relievers come in and do that because it gets the other team a little pumped up and the fans a little excited, but uh yeah.
SPEAKER_05Mason on the year, he's he's he's uh been in seven games. Uh he's 2-0 with his record. Uh he's got 18 innings pitched. Uh teams are hitting 207 off him, giving up 19 hits, nine runs, three of those earned, 13 based on balls, uh, one hit by pitch. And then he's got a 1.12 ERA, and he's got 22 strikeouts in those 19 innings. Uh best way to describe Mason is he'll give up a little something, he'll give up a hit, uh might come in, might have a jam, but he always finds a way to work his way out of it. Uh he's a bulldog out there. We've described him like that. Uh, and he's a competitor, so this is nothing new for him to come in with the situation baseball here.
SPEAKER_07No, you're absolutely right. And uh if history is any indication, it's gonna be an interesting rest to the bottom of the seventh inning out there.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yep. I like the move. Uh JJ was having a little little trouble finding the zone the last probably four batters, five batters. And this is a good move. A good move. Bringing, and you're bringing in a left-hander, somebody they haven't seen.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, well, you got that JJ got that leadoff strikeout in the sixth inning and and kind of got pretty amped up over that, and I I think it became a distraction for him. So to reset everything, there are no outs here for Sergeant Bluff in the bottom of the seventh. Hayes on first base with the four-pitch walk, and Anderson will step in. Anderson ready to go, he steps in. Mason comes set, checks the runner at first, and here's the first pitch. Outside for ball one, one ball, no strikes.
SPEAKER_05I'm trying to see. Uh, did we leave Hendricks in at second base, Mike? No, he came out. JJ's back at short, and Chase moved over to second base.
SPEAKER_07Here's a pitch. That pitch inside. Almost hit him. Two balls, no strikes. Didn't miss by much.
SPEAKER_05And here we go. You know, down, he's got a 2-0 account, and I'm guessing he's got he does not have the green light. I'm gonna guess that Coach Nelson's gonna make him throw a strike.
SPEAKER_07That pitch in there for strike one. Two balls, one strike. McCormick is due up next. Here's the pitch by Mason. That pitch fouled off out of play. Two balls, two strikes. One on, no out. Crusaders lead eight to six. We're here in the bottom of the seventh inning. Got some high drama going on. Mason checks the runner at first, deals with the plate. That pitch way outside. Brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Can't afford to put this runner on or this batter on.
SPEAKER_05This is a big pitch. You don't you bring the lead off uh you put the tying run on and the lead run up to the up to the plate.
SPEAKER_07Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss, strike three. That's out number one for the Crusaders here in the bottom of the seventh. That will bring up McCormick. He grounded out second to first, reached on the sacrifice, and walked his last time up and scored one of the three runs for Sergeant Bluff in the bottom of the sixth.
SPEAKER_05Well, he's a he's a definite pole hitter. Um I'd work him on the outside of the plate.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, and with us holding the runner at first, that opens that up between first and second. That pitch high and inside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Christians would be due up next, and uh he's had a good night in both games, so he's one that we don't want to face with runners in scoring position.
SPEAKER_05No, absolutely. You're you're absolutely right.
SPEAKER_07Mason delivers, catches that outside corner for strike one. One ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_05You know, one thing about Mason, when he misses, he misses. He misses, and then he comes back and just he just tags that corner and just catches the black. Here's the pitch. Oh, there we go. No, no, no. That's not a that that hit the bat. He fouls that one off. One ball, two strikes. He was going down there like he was going to first base, like he got hit.
SPEAKER_07Well, one ball, two strikes.
SPEAKER_05You know, the old rule, the hands part of the bat when you when you swing.
SPEAKER_07Well, that that's the rule, but some sometimes you always don't you don't always get the rule. One ball, two strikes, one out. Runner at first base. Crusaders lead eight to six. We're in the bottom of the seventh.
SPEAKER_05I can see Peyton paint that outside corner, throw that curveball in the outside corner.
SPEAKER_07Here's the pitch. There it is.
SPEAKER_05He got him got him looking. Strike three. That's out number two. Right where I want outside corner. Good job, Peyton. Painted that thing.
SPEAKER_07That'll bring Christians to the plate. He is singled, reached on a fielder's choice, and walked. He scored two of the six runs for Sergeant Bluff. That pitch low for ball one, one ball, no strikes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, this is definitely a guy you got to go after. Uh he's he's he finds a way to get on base. He, you know, and you and I talk about it. It's not always about hits, it's just about getting on base, and he finds ways to get on base.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, Crusader's definitely not out of trouble here. Here's a pitch. Just misses ball two. Two balls, no strikes. That will bring Frankel to the plate, should Christians reach.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, come on, Mason. Now you just gotta bear down. You just gotta bear down. I wouldn't be surprised to see uh Nelson get aggressive.
SPEAKER_07That's on the outside corner for strike one. Two balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_05One thing Mason does not do, well, he does not put anything down the middle of the plate. He is on the corner inside out, as good as anybody. That's up. That should end it. Let's see.
SPEAKER_07Jonas settles under that for out number three. Crusaders hold on in game two to get the split. They win this one eight to six. Great job in game number two by the Crusaders to overcome not being able to drive runners in when they're in scoring position. They were able to do that quite a bit here in game number two.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I can't. Let's first of all, I can't say enough about Mason Moravic coming in in a situation like that, guy on uh goes goes up 2-0 on his first batter, battles back and gets him out one boom, boom, boom, one, two, three. Uh great job by Mr. Moravic.
SPEAKER_07Yep, uh good job by Crusaders here in game number two. Uh put some pressure on the on the Sergeant Bluff pitchers whenever they got guys on and forced them to kind of lose their focus on on who was at the plate. Yeah. And and really got in their heads. It was it was great to see.
SPEAKER_05We did a great job of situation hitting with guys in scoring position, Mike. Something we haven't we haven't been doing a whole lot of, and we finally put that inning together in the fifth inning, or excuse me, the sixth inning, where we uh where we punched in four runs, um, had had good at bats, uh, and we needed that going into this weekend.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, they do. They've uh two big games on Saturday. They play Carlisle, who I believe is ranked number four in 3A, and they'll also face Dallas Center Grimes, and then they come back on Tuesday, got Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln at home, and then they travel to East next Thursday, finish the regular season on Monday, July 6th with uh Council Bluffs Lewis Central. So, I mean there's a lot of quality baseball left for this this baseball team uh here in the regular season before they start the tournament.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, this was a huge win, folks. We needed this win, uh, especially going in if seating is coming out this weekend. I think, Mike, you said uh it's coming out uh this weekend or first part of another.
SPEAKER_07I think uh uh Alicia, who stays on top of it there at school, she told me that it would be uh Monday the 29th that it should come out. So uh hopefully by the time we are on the air on Tuesday, we will know what the tournament trail is gonna look like for the Crusaders. And you know, we got to enjoy the state tournament in Sioux City last year. This year we're gonna have to travel to over to Cedar Rapids if we get that far. And um either way, it it'd be it's gonna be a fun postseason for these Crusaders, and they've got some kids stepping up, and I think they've got the infield solidified. I mean, they've got first, second, and third and shortstop set with a lot of speed, a lot of quickness.
SPEAKER_05Now defensively, we're we're yeah, we're right where we need to be defensively. That is not gonna be the issue if we lose.
SPEAKER_07No, it's not it'll it'll be it'll be not being able to get guys out at the plate. It'll be the the pitching that uh no that's that's right, yeah. Is is could could be the issue. I mean, we've you know we've got Mason. He he comes in and makes it interesting. Dylan Knapp's done a great job here lately. Uh, you know, we're gonna get Caleb back. Uh he'll be back this weekend, and then we're gonna have him next week going into the playoffs.
SPEAKER_05So uh that's gonna be huge.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, absolutely huge. I think our pitching will turn out to be in decent shape, and it's just gonna be a matter of when we've got to bring a reliever in or someone in to throw an inning or two, is how are they gonna perform whenever they do it? So a lot to look forward to over the next uh 10 days, and we appreciate everybody for listening. Thank you very much, Grace. Back in the studio. I know it's late and you're ready to get home because you were up early this morning, have a meeting with us. Uh thanks to Ann and Tim. We appreciate all you guys do. Everyone, have a great weekend, and we'll talk to you next Tuesday from Bishop Mueller Field.
