SPEAKER_13

Batting fourth will be Walton. He'll be the right fielder. Batting fifth will be Craig. He'll be playing third base. At first base will be Becker. Batting eighth. Seventh will be Garst, and he will be in center field. Designated hitter will be Donner, and he'll be hitting for Tyler Hallström, who'll be playing second base. And the pitcher for Council Bluffs in game two will be Evan Lang.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, the Umpires just got a chance to look at the Umpires Mike downstairs, and they're just getting their gear on right now. I think we got a few more minutes. Let me tell you, it is a morgue out there as far as the heat goes. I just stepped out uh and it's hot in this press box, but let me tell you, I'm sure JJ enjoyed being up here because it's about ten degrees cooler.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, he he had had a big smile on his face. He's uh good kid and enjoyed the opportunity to have him come up and and give us uh give us an interview. And I don't know why, but I thought he was a senior. I was asking him where he's going next year, and he looked at me like I was crazy, which I am, but uh so we've got him for another year, so that you know that's exciting and uh very excited about uh his future and and the future of Healing. They're solid, solid in the middle of the infield and all across the infield with uh with what they've got and and uh you know, like we said, coming into that first game, he led the led the state in hits in 3A. Uh unfortunately he was unable to uh get any hits in that first game to add to that lead. So looking for great things out of JJ here in game number two.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he he definitely uh the thing about JJ, I mean he could go 0 for 3, but he makes contact. He makes contact good every time at bat, even when he doesn't get a hit, he's hitting the same way. You don't see any anything deficient on him, like he's dipping or or he's pressing or any of that. JJ is JJ every time at bat. And so it wouldn't be surprising at all for him to come out and go three for three. And and having those kids come up here and doing these interviews, Mike, that's terrific. He do a great job kind of taking over and helping him through the interview, and and but it's it's huge for these kids down the road as they grow and uh as they go out on their own.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, he's uh you could tell he was a little bit nervous when we got started, but uh he he went right into it and uh you know comes from a good family and just just happy to have him as as part of the program.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we've got senior night here, folks, and and anybody that's been through senior night. Uh what a very special night for the Crusaders and for these seniors. Um first person up or the Harpino's.

SPEAKER_13

Uh he was at Morningside University, Bruce.

SPEAKER_03

Zach Carpano Sr. Heck of a football player going to Morningside to continue his his football career.

SPEAKER_13

Who's next?

SPEAKER_03

I'm trying to see who's next. Uh looks like Nathan Gaswin is gonna be next, Mike.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, that's I mean Peyton Erickson. Peyton Erickson, yeah. They're going to numerical order. Yeah, that's one thing that uh you know Healan does have is they don't have a whole lot of seniors this year, so they they'll have a uh good nucleus coming back next year.

SPEAKER_03

So we're extremely young. Uh hats off to the Ericksons. They flipped uh some wonderful kids through Bishop Healan, just got a chance to talk to their dad. Um the older brother just was popping at 93 through one inning in his first outing and is headed down to Indiana. He's playing some summer wooden bat league. Um so good things for Peyton's older brother.

SPEAKER_13

Nathan Gasswinch next.

unknown

They last season our first team all coming.

SPEAKER_03

What a great senior season Nathan's having as far, especially out in the field, bringing his batting average up.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, he's he's really improved that as a season has gone on, and uh just a good kid, always has a smile on his face and always has positive attitude. And you know, it you see him after a game when things didn't go right and he says just wasn't my game, uh we'll get him next time and and just moves on.

SPEAKER_03

He's the he's the uh poster child for being a team player. If there is one, that's Nathan Gaswin, and uh does whatever it takes to win a ball game. Trying to see who's next up here. Caleb Lefaver, of course, we've we've talked uh until we're blue in the face about the accomplishments of Caleb Lefaver three times at the season what he's done and probably gonna be extremely high uh round draft pick in the upcoming draft on July 11th.

SPEAKER_13

Yes, got wonderful parents in Jeff and Kathy, as do all of our seniors at the University of Iowa. You're right, Mike. Only four seniors, it looks like and if uh you know if if things don't fall the the the right way for Caleb with the draft, he has signed with the University of Iowa, and of course he'd be joining um Jaron Bleaker over there. So Healing would have uh two Division I uh baseball players in the same baseball program across the state.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, University of Iowa has tapped into Bishop Healing over the last handful of years, and Tyler Cropley uh Hogue, uh where that was a pitcher, Bleaker, that was a pitcher. Uh we've we've sent some healing kids there in the last handful of years.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, it's been uh great representation and and you know a lot of a lot of healing kids have gone on and played uh college baseball, and uh you know not everyone's a D1 player, but they're they're all ball players, and uh they they go to programs, they go to good programs and and make a name for themselves there. Let's go ahead and take a two-minute break and we will come back.

SPEAKER_10

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_13

As we get ready, uh coaches and umpires are out at home plate and uh having conversations.

SPEAKER_03

You know, I talk a little bit about something, Mike, about one of the reasons why we send our kids to Catholic schools and everything. You know, these boys went down Saturday and played at Carlisle and Dallas Center Grimes and got back really late. And Sunday morning at Cathedral Mass, Coach Wesselman had the whole team sitting up front at 10 o'clock mass at Cathedral. And these are the things that as a Catholic school that that we can do. I mean, these are the things, these are the differences. Uh you ask, why do I send my kids to Catholic schools? Well, that's one of the reasons is that we can do that and and not feel uh you know like we're doing anything wrong. We can get together as a team and pray, we can get together as a team and go to church, uh all those wonderful things, and I commend Coach Wesselman for doing that and bringing those kids to church on Sunday.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, absolutely. Uh, because like you said, they played two games over in in Des Moines on Saturday, and it wasn't the coolest day of the year. I mean, it wasn't as hot as it was today, but uh I also learned uh yesterday that the bus that they used the big bus has no air conditioning. So the JV had to have they had to go down to Council Bluffson back in that heat with no air conditioning. You're kidding me. No, it was uh so I mean that's another testament to you know this team and and the leadership of the seniors that you know they played two games in the in the hot sun and had to make that drive back from Des Moines. Uh you hope it was a little cooler than it was yesterday for them on the bus. And then they get up, like you said, and they uh went to Massa Cathedral and they had a uh the whole team was was out to you know Brad and Heather Gaswin's house for a uh team bonding opportunity. And uh it's just uh it's great that we have parents that that are willing to do things like that for these kids. And you know, the gas wins they came from Akron. They could have uh they could have just stayed on the outside and and said, let us see how things go. But I remember last year from the very start, I mean they jumped in and said, Hey, we've got a house that uh is big enough to hold all these kids, let's have everybody out to our house. And I know they did it several times. I was fortunate enough and lucky enough to be uh invited out there a couple times and beautiful place, and and you know, last year's parents were a great group of parents, and and this year a lot of those parents are still here, and you know, they're very complimentary to you and I. They appreciate what you and I do, they appreciate Catholic radio and the opportunity that Catholic radio gives uh to family members who can't make it to games, to grandparents who aren't able to make it to games, uh family members that are across the country that they're able to tune in and listen to uh our broadcast. And now that you know you've got Game Changer, so now the family members can uh watch Game Changer and unfortunately listen to us two two different ways, but uh it's I mean it's great, it's a great opportunity for these kids to uh to have their games broadcast on the radio. And I know we talk to a lot of coaches throughout the season and even parents, they wish they had something like what we have.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and the gas ones, and I've talked to to Brad and Heather, and and they're all in, absolutely all in, and and don't regret the move one Iota, and and and have had nothing but but praise and about all the things that Nathan's been able to go through since he's been here.

SPEAKER_13

We are ready to get started here. Aiden Lefavre on the mound, he's got a record of three and one. Teams are hitting 307 against him. He's given up 42 hits, 21 runs, 20 earned, walked 11, hit six, and struck out 28 with a ERA of 4.38. And here's the first pitch. That breaks in there for strike one, no balls, one strike. Lincoln up first, he'll be followed by Adler and Clark.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's that slow curve that uh Aiden has that that comes across that outside corner.

SPEAKER_13

That pitch on the outside corner for strike two. You know, we we talked about uh during the interviews when we were off air how quickly game one went. And Aiden doesn't waste a whole lot of time out there between pitches. So here's pitch, doesn't quite break enough. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

The thing about Aiden is it's a lot like Dylan. I mean, Aiden's had some really good outings, and then he's had some, you know, uh eighth grade moments, as I like to say.

SPEAKER_13

You know, hasn't looked as sharp, but that's grounded out to Beck at second base. He feels it, throws to first. Errant throw there, bounces off the runner. He's able to go down to second base. So error on Chase Beck. We'll get things started for Council Bluffs here in the top of the first inning. If you're just joining us, Council Bluffs won game one, seven to one. Crusaders looking to get a little redemption here in game two and build some momentum for the big double header against crosstown rival, the East High Black Raiders, on Thursday.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's that's just an uncat uncharacteristic play by Chase Peck right there. That's just kind of a slow roller over there that you gotta make, and and he's beating himself up right now, you can see it. Yep. He's over there and and kicking himself. He knows he should have made that play, and and he will. He'll make the next one. But right now we've got to deal with this. We got a guy on second base. Aiden did everything right, three beautiful pitches on this first battery, which is a huge, huge sign.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, but Chase has got to let that one go and just move forward. Aiden checks the runner at second base. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss, strike one, no balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's that curved ball. Come across on the inside corner. And I was talking to his dad about that. You know, I was asking him what the difference between his curveball and his slider is, and he said, actually, his slider, he's got a natural uh movement after this pitch, I was pitch is high for anyway. He's got a natural cutter, Mike, that goes to the outside that looks like a slider. And he said uh both the boys have that pitch. And I oftentimes call that thing a slider, but that's a cutter on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, and it's a very good one. Aiden with the long look in here, deals to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

Just missed.

SPEAKER_13

Just missed on the inside corner, two and one. That that just missed on the inside reminds me when we went downstairs between games. The Kevin that was behind the plate in game one, he said, so what was the booth review? And uh he said that that called third strike to Nathan was a knuckleball. Oh my god. And it caught the inside corner. He said it was there. That is lined hard back up the middle. They're gonna have a play at home. Dylan feels it. Here's the throw home. Oh Jonas cut it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we might have had a shot if he doesn't cut that.

SPEAKER_13

Might have had a shot at that one. So Council Bluffs jumps out one to nothing here in the top of the first inning. Adler with the RBI single, and that will bring Clark to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

You know, that's generally called. Uh Jonas comes across the first base, and he's the relay, and the catcher's yelling, you know, cut four, cut four, cut four, or let it go. So, you know, I'm assuming that Peyton called for a cut hold.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch runner goes. Swinging a miss, strike one. So Adler takes off down to second base, reaches safely. No balls, one strike to Clark. No outs here in the top of the first. Not the kind of start that the Crusaders were were wanting here in game two. That pitch just misses.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, just a little high.

SPEAKER_13

One ball, one strike. Walton is due up next.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, good pitch out by the fist. I mean, normally he gets he gets you chasing on that pitch, but uh uh a good hold.

SPEAKER_13

Aiden checks a runner at second base. Here's the pitch. That's pass to diving Cal Geecy at third base. Great effort there by Cal. That will score Adler from second base. Clark in with the RBI double. Abraham Lincoln leads this one 2-0. We're still in the top of the first inning.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that first run will go in as uh as an unearned run for Aiden. Uh first guy got on on an error, and and that's what starts it. I mean, you get things like that. Yeah, it only takes one miss Q to get an inning rally going, and and and AL has that right now. And Aiden's got to put out the fire here.

SPEAKER_13

Courtesy runner will be Drake Arterburn. So runner at second base, no outs, two runs in. Walton steps in.

SPEAKER_03

Not to start that Coach Welsman wanted, and and he's looking out there, and they're getting on the guys. Let's go, boys. Let's get a little pop, a little pep in our step.

SPEAKER_13

Great diving effort by JJ out of shortstop. Gets passed him out into left field. Runners at the corners. No outs. That will bring Craig to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, JJ just missed that. I mean, he wouldn't have had a play either way. But uh great, great effort.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, Council Bluffs came into game one. I'm sure it's changed since game one, but they came in with a team batting average of 338, so they're a good hitting ball club.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think JJ kind of knocked a w knocked a wind out of himself there a little bit.

SPEAKER_13

That's it out to Dylan center field. He's on his horse, makes the catch. That will score the runner from third. Clark scores to make it three to nothing. Walton unable to advance. That will bring Becker to the plate. Swingin' a mass runner goes. Chase at second. So Walden is at second base.

SPEAKER_03

He's getting a good lead off at second base. I wouldn't be surprised to see him move to try to move him over to third here.

SPEAKER_13

One ball, one strike. Garchis do up next. Aiden taking a long look in here. He comes set. Checks the runner at second. Here's the pitch. Bounces that one in there. Two balls, one strike. From here it looks like Aiden's got a fresh haircut out there.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he had that. He was sporting that over at Sergeant Bluff, Mike. I remember uh commenting on it then. Nice curveball outside just missed.

SPEAKER_13

Outside, three balls, one strike. Runner at second base, one out, three runs in for Council Bluffs here in the top of the first inning.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we gotta hold him right here. I mean, we gotta put out the fire. Got Jason and JJ holding them off with the full count.

SPEAKER_13

Three balls, two strikes. Hayden takes a long look, checks the runner at second base, checks him again. Here's a pitch to the plate. High for ball four. Becker draws the walk, puts runners at first and second with one out, and that will bring Garst to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

And now we gotta force out at any base other than home. We got uh third, second, and first are all options. So anything on the ground, and here comes Coach Taylor, he's taking the timeout, bringing the guys in, and and I know what he's doing. He's going out there and and he's and rightfully so. He's he's they're probably gonna get a little chew out here. Not uh they're patentating here. Let's go, boys. Let's let's get up. Let's get a little pep going here and and uh let's get out of this inning. In a nutshell.

SPEAKER_13

I'm sure that's not the words, maybe, but Garst was one for three in the first game and scored two of the seven Abraham Lincoln runs. Yeah, in baseball, when a coach goes out there, you never see them get in a kid's face like you see on the football tier football field, basketball, anything like that. It's it's it's almost like a gentleman's game, which we know that's what golf is, but it is.

SPEAKER_03

That was a little pet me up. I mean, I and good I I think that's the right thing to do. Coach Taylor got out there. You don't want this thing to get out of hand, and you just came off of a game where it was kind of a lackluster effort, and you you got to get these kids fired up. I mean, coming coming back from three is nothing, but you let this thing get out of hand in the first inning, Mike. Then you're in a just a huge uphill battle.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, absolutely. Gars steps in here from the left side. He's got runners at first and second with one out. Three runs across for Abraham Lincoln here in the top of the first. He squares to bunt. Beautiful bunt goes foul. That was in the perfect spot. It just it took that cue ball English and went in foul territory. So no balls, one strike to Garst.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he's gonna have to have Cal. It's kind of that what that does is that makes Cal cheat in a little bit more. You want to take that away from him. I wouldn't be surprised to see him probably lay that thing down again.

unknown

Oh, I'm good.

SPEAKER_13

Aiden looks in, he comes set, checks the runner at second. Here's the pitch of the plate, squares again, on the outside corner for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, there's that movement on that fastball that Aiden has that uh just kind of cut to the outside corner.

SPEAKER_13

Designated hit a hitter Donner is due up next. Again, thanks to all the listeners on Sioux Lane Catholic Radio and also you folks on Game Changer. Checking the runner at second. Batter asks for time.

SPEAKER_03

Aiden's having a little trouble getting that pitch. Uh batter's right up on the plate. It's a good opportunity to come to the inside corner.

SPEAKER_13

Here's a pitch by Aiden. Outside. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, good waist pitch. It's a good waist pitch. You're up on the count.

SPEAKER_13

Aiden takes a long look in. He deals to the plate. Just off the plate. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, good job by Peyton trying to bring that ball in. I mean, he framed it there on the outside corner. It was a little out.

SPEAKER_13

Check the runner at second, and here's the pitch. That's popped up to Dillon out in center field. He moves over to his right and fields it for out number two. And that will bring designated hitter Donner to the plate. 0 for 3 in game one. Looking to get things going here with the bat. Lang the pitcher would be due up next.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, this is a big at bat for Aiden. And it's a big at bat for Healing. I mean, let's put out the fire here. Let's go to bat and uh let's uh start scratching away at these.

SPEAKER_13

First pitch in there, first strike. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think Aiden's been doing some double duty too, Mike. I think he's been playing some J V baseball, doing some position playing, if I'm not sure.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, he did play some positions uh on Saturday. Did a great job at the plate, swung the bat really well, no balls, two strikes. And shout out to Jeff Blanner and that J V team. They uh they lost to East 5-4 in the second game of that tournament. And I mean they were right in it, and the game was called due to time. Um they they really represented themselves well. Here's the pitch. Foul back. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, the the the pipeline for Healing Baseball is good. We've got some good young players. Umly losing four seniors, Mike, going into next year. I mean, the outlook looks good. Uh got some kids that are gonna mature in the offseason, get stronger. I mean, I'm I'm excited for the future of Healing Baseball.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, it should be fun, but we've got a lot of baseball left this summer. So check the runner at second. Batter asks for time. No balls, two strikes, two outs. Runners at first and second. Abraham Lincoln has pushed three runs across here in the top of the first. Aiden taking his time here, checks the runner at second, and here's the pitch. And you'll never guess, folks. Another hit by pitch that'll load the bases. So Donner reaches on a hit by pitch, and that will bring Lang the pitcher to the plate. We would love nothing more than to get a base here, base hit here, and help his own cause.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's a tough one to lose. I mean, you're up on the count early uh on that battery and then uh that's just a curveball that just uh I don't know if it's just his release point or if it just didn't break, but one of those that just didn't break and got him in the back.

SPEAKER_13

Aiden coming from the full wind up here. Here's the first pitch. Swing and a miss for strike one. No balls, one strike. Ninth batter in the inning for Abraham Lincoln. I'm not sure who she was, but I want to thank the Abraham Lincoln mom who was out picking up trash between game one and game two. Keeping the ballpark looking clean.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, the ballpark looks absolutely amazing.

SPEAKER_13

It's just beautiful. Aiden with a long look, starts his wind up, and here's the pitch. That's popped up out of play. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Boy, this is the most foul balls I've seen hit over to the right side of the field in a long time.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, there were a lot in that first game, and there was a lot here.

SPEAKER_03

Man, yeah, you want to you want to try to sneak something in here, Mike. Go in the outside corner, or nothing too good, but that's a good pitch right there.

SPEAKER_13

That's it out to Nathan out in right field. He'll settle under it for out number three. But Council Bluffs is able to push three runs across in the top of the first inning. They'd lead this one three to nothing. We will come back in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_09

What makes your home home? Is it a favorite reading corner? A growth chart on the door frame, a bunk bed that doubles as a fourth. Home is that feeling of warmth and safety, a place where you belong. At Security National Bank, we put thoughtful care and attention into helping you find your place. Not just any place, but your home. Because home matters. Security National Bank. Everything matters. Member FDIC.

SPEAKER_15

At our pharmacy, you are far more than just another prescription number. You are a customer friend. Greenville Pharmacy is a proud supporter of Bishop Healing Athletics and Siouxland Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_10

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_13

We're going to head in here to the bottom of the first inning. Crusaders trail this one 3-0. They will send JJ Hope, Caleb LeFavor, and Tommy Carroll to the plate on the mound for Abraham Lincoln here in game two. Evan Long, he's a senior. He has a record of 1-0. He's pitched 12 and a third innings. Teams are hitting 291 against him. He's given up 16 hits, 13 runs, 10 have been earned. He's walked six, he's hit three, and he has struck out six with an ERA of 5.68.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, definitely hit a ball just by watching him in his warm-ups. Throws a lot like the first uh guy in the first game. Looks like he hits his corners, a lot of curve balls.

SPEAKER_13

We just got to come out and be aggressive here. We got to get guys on and and do something with them when we get them on.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Mike, we don't have to do it all at once. You know, we we can just nip at this thing and and and scratch a run here, scratch a run there. I mean just get ourselves back in the ball game. Well he airmailed that one. That thing, that thing went way over JJ's head.

SPEAKER_13

That's a good start. No balls, one strike to JJ. Our between game guest. Here's the pitch. Fouls that one back right at us. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, good job, uh JJ coming up, giving us some time.

SPEAKER_13

Pitch on the inside corner for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Here's the pitch by Lang. Way inside. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he likes to throw that curveball. Trying to work it on the inside corner on JJ. Snuck one by him. Here's the wind up in the pitch. Nice.

SPEAKER_13

That's hit hard out the center field again. Hard hit right at the center fielder. Still hitting the ball hard. We just cannot get it to fall. One out here for the Crusaders in the bottom of the first. That will bring Caleb Lefaver to the plate. Caleb hit the ball really well in game one. He just hit it right at the shortstop every time.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I mean, nothing came off the bat soft. Everything was hard hit. Shortstop really playing him to go to the middle.

SPEAKER_13

That pitch lined right at the Council Bluff's dugout. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I like the mentality of Caleb when he comes up to bat. I mean, he doesn't get wasted any pitch because that first one he swings at a lot. That's a trouble, right?

SPEAKER_13

Oh, fouls that one down the third baseline, so the only place left for him to go is down the middle. No balls, two strikes. Yeah, it's it's it's good to see too, and obvious that the layoff didn't affect his his batting eye. He's he's been right on uh when he hits it. He makes good solid contact. Here's a wind up in the pitch. Way outside, ball one, one ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and and Caleb, when he gets on, he's got deceptive speed.

SPEAKER_13

So that is line down the first the first baseline, right fielder over, not able to get to it.

SPEAKER_03

There we go.

SPEAKER_13

Caleb in with a double. That's what we need to get started here, folks.

SPEAKER_03

Situation baseball now. We got a guy on second base, and and what do we need to do to manufacture a run? And now you got the pitcher thinking here a little bit. And like I said, we don't have to get it all back at once, one at a time.

SPEAKER_13

No, I I take one here and cut that lead to three to one and then and then build on it.

SPEAKER_03

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_13

Crusaders come into this game with a record of 22-12 and 18-7 in the Missouri River Activities Conference. Tommy Carroll steps in, he squares to bunt, bunts it perfectly. That's gonna be hard. That's gonna be hard. Just gets Tommy Carroll. Pitcher to first. LaFaver able to go to third on the sacrifice. Two down, that'll bring Peyton Erickson to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

Boy, almost. He gets that one or two more feet to the left, Mike, and that's a base hit all the way. That's that's just a perfect bump by Tommy Carroll.

SPEAKER_13

Peyton one for three in game one. Now would be a good time to get hit number two for the evening. Should Peyton extend the inning, Nathan Gaswent would be due up next. Here's the pitch by Lang. There we go. That's behind him.

SPEAKER_03

And that's exactly why that was so important, Mike.

SPEAKER_13

Caleb able to score from third. That cuts it to three to one. Deficit for the Crusaders, and it's ball one to Peyton Erickson.

SPEAKER_03

And there you go. That that that's where that pays off. Tommy Carroll bunts him over to third base. Uh small ball, and you never know what happens. And and pass ball, wild pitch, and there we go. Now we're back in the ball game.

SPEAKER_13

One ball, no strikes. That pitch is high to Peyton for ball two. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Peyton did a really good job at the plate in the first game, made good contact. Here's the pitch. There we go.

SPEAKER_13

Oh, just that soft liner to the third baseman for out number three, but the Crusaders are able to push one run across in the bottom of the first. We'll head to the second Crusaders Trail, three to one. We'll talk to you back here in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_10

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_13

Back here, Mr. Mueller Field headed top of the second inning. Council Bluffs will stand to the top of the order Lincoln, Adler, and Clark to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

Now let's get a few more of our sponsors in here quick. Mike, we've got Jimmy Johns, J and J Coins and Collectibles, I'm on Communications, Heineman Family Dentistry, Ros Cobe and the Heidman Law Firm, Gretkin Family Eye Care, Greg and Christy Yoakum, Greenville Pharmacy, and Folk Brothers. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healand Baseball and Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_13

So Lincoln will step in. He reached on an error and scored a run in the first inning. Here's the first pitch. That's inside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Go through the substate one for a bracket here shortly. Here's the pitch. That pitch is outside for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Aiden working quickly. Here's the windup in the pitch. That pitch is outside. Three balls, no strikes to Lincoln. Adler would be due next.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's that curveball that he likes to work on, either the inside or outside corner. He's just missing outside.

SPEAKER_13

That pitch in there for strike one. Three balls, one strike. Bit of a delayed call by there by the umpire.

SPEAKER_03

I don't I think initially he was going to call ball and then he called a strike at the last second.

SPEAKER_13

That's hit between short and third. JJ not able to get to it. So Adler reaches for the second time in game number two. He's at first base. I'm sorry, Lincoln reaches for the second time in game tonight. And that will put a runner at first base with no outs. And Adler will step in. He singled his last time up and scored a run.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, here we got a nice uh situation for a double play ball. Aiden just needs to manufacture a nice ground ball. Keep hitting that outside corner.

SPEAKER_13

Throw over to first. Lincoln back in plenty of time.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, one thing. Coach has been really aggressive for AL on uh usually taking off on the first or second pitch. I wouldn't I wouldn't look for them to change it at all.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Just inside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Starting starting to get a colony of flies up here in the press box. It reminds me of Amberyville horror. That one scene where all the flies were on the window. Here's the pitch. Way outside. Peyton fakes like he's gonna throw down to first base. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's a curved ball that just kind of took off on Aiden. Good job by Peyton.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Just misses for ball three, a little high. Three balls, no strikes. Runner at first, no outs here in the top of the second inning. Hayden deals. That pitch outside for ball four. Four pitch walk for Adler. That will put runners at first and second with no outs, and that'll bring Clark to the plate. He doubled his last time up and scored a run.

SPEAKER_03

This is huge. Aiden Hayden just got to take a deep breath. Peyton kind of went out, talked to him a little bit there. Uh take a deep breath and just start uh playing catch with Peyton. Get that ball in there. We've got a manufacturing out here. We got guys on first and second, so we've got to force out at any base.

SPEAKER_13

Council Bluffs comes into this with a record of 21-8 and 19-6 in Missouri River Activities Conference. Here's the pitch. He squares way high for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, looks like Coach Coach Britsky's gonna play a little small ball here, and I you know I like that. He wants to get those guys to second and third, and and it doesn't matter who he's got up to bat, he'll bunt. We've seen that. He did that in the first game.

SPEAKER_13

Here's a pitch by Aiden squares again. Offers it that one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, good pitch. Nice slider on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_13

Walton is due up next. John's gonna save some flies' lives here. Aiden steps off. Peyton's gonna go out and talk to him. In the 4A substate one bracket, Sioux City East will face Sioux City West on July 10th at 7 p.m. At Iowa Western Community College, Lewis Central will play Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson. And the other in that bracket is Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln will face Sioux City North.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's looks to me like that uh that could come down to East and Lewis Central. Nice bunch.

SPEAKER_13

Bunts that out. Hayden fields it, throws over to first for out number one. One to three sacrifice. We'll move the runners up to second and third. Yeah, I'm a little confused because there's only three games. So either part of the bracket's missing.

SPEAKER_03

No, I think what happens there, Mike, is is East just has to win one, goes right to the championship, and then that lower bracket has to win two. To get to the championship. That's kind of the way I'm looking at that.

SPEAKER_13

Man, you're kind of a Cliff Clavin. You know a lot about nothing.

SPEAKER_03

That's pretty impressive. I'm full of a lot of useless information.

SPEAKER_13

That's what my wife always used to tell me. You're like Cliff Clavin. You know a lot about nothing.

SPEAKER_03

Oh.

SPEAKER_13

And that hasn't changed.

SPEAKER_03

I feel like norm, but uh here's a wind up in the pitch.

SPEAKER_13

It does not break in there like you want it to. Two balls, no strikes. Runners at second and third, one out. Council Bluffs leads this one three to one. We're just in the top of the first second inning. Here's the pitch. Outside corner. First strike one. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, good pitch. Caught the black on the outside corner. Nice job by Peyton Erickson framing that. I mean, just the benefits of having a kid like Peyton.

SPEAKER_13

There's probably some listeners that think you and I need the services of Dr. Frazier Crane. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_02

Ooh.

SPEAKER_13

Just inside. Three balls, one strike. Craig would be due up next.

SPEAKER_03

Ball got away from Aiden there. Guy in third base just he thought about coming.

SPEAKER_13

Infield has pulled in a little bit. Yeah, that bracket for East is not going to be easy. No. Lewis Central's 26-3. Abraham Lincoln's not a bad ball club, and they've beat East once this year.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we'll see Lewis Central on Monday night, so that'll be a huge game. I'm sure there'll probably be some East people out here watching that game, actually.

SPEAKER_13

That'll bring the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Runners at second and third with one out.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we got situation baseball here. We got guys on second and third for AL and one out.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike three. That's a huge strikeout for Aiden there for out number two. That will bring Craig to the plate. He flew out to center field sacrifice his first time up.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, just a huge out for Aiden. I mean, now you guys, we can bring our infield back to regulation. Everybody was in on that last at bat, trying to prevent a run from scoring.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the first pitch. Grounded foul just past Cal down at third base. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

It's interesting listening to JJ talk about they got a spray chart in the uh dugout on kind of how to face each batter on where to play. And you you know it's kind of Mike, we were getting back to, you know, you asked about the shift. And in a way, it's kind of an internal shift for these guys. That's trouble.

SPEAKER_13

No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so like JJ w he can cheat, and I and I know what he was talking about when so he knows that this guy has a tendency to take the ball up the middle or the right field, then he'll just cheat, and he'll cheat one or two steps with a lean toward towards center field, and then and the same thing if he's got a pole hitter.

SPEAKER_13

Give a shout out to Bob and Laura Gesey. I know they're out there listening. Here's the windup in the pitch. It's a soft liner. Chase Beck makes a diving attempt. Lincoln will score from third to bring the score four to one. Council Bluffs. Adler advances to third, and Craig reaches with the RBI singles. So runners at first and third with two outs. That'll bring Becker to the plate who walked his first time up.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, just an unlucky hit for uh for Aiden. He did everything right there. The guy just kind of sawed it off and and looped it over the second baseman's head, right in between second, and and and Gasland's playing shallow and and so he had to just absolutely put that thing perfectly.

SPEAKER_13

Well, one I know it didn't work out the way we wanted it to, but one thing that I like to see on that is you know, after the first inning on that throw, Chase was kind of down on himself, but he gave maximum effort on that and laid out to try to catch that ball.

SPEAKER_03

So that was 110%, absolutely. I agree with you, Mike. You just gotta forget about that stuff, move on, go to the next inning.

SPEAKER_13

He's out there, looks like he pinged himself up a little bit, but he's still out there. That's it out to Dillon in center field, takes about seven steps back, able to make the catch to retire the side. Becker flies out to center field. That'll end the inning, but Abraham Lincoln able to push another run across, will go to the bottom of the second inning. Crusaders trail four to one. We'll be back in 60.

SPEAKER_10

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_13

Back here, bottom of the second inning, Crusaders trail 4-1. They will send Gaswint, Nap, and Beck to the plate. Try to get things started here and get a run or two back.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, good person to have leading off in Nathan Gaswin. He's been hitting the ball well. Yeah. Oh, just missed that one. It's gonna stay in.

SPEAKER_13

That's fair. That's a fair ball.

SPEAKER_03

Holy cow.

SPEAKER_13

Just inside the first baseline. Boy, I that's that's the advantage I have from here. I can see it. You can see everything down the the third baseline. So single by Nathan Gaswin to get things started. That'll bring up Dylan Knapp.

SPEAKER_03

That's that vintage inside out hit, Mike, that we were talking about that Nathan does so well. Fist come through first, barrel follows. You can't play him straight up because we've seen him hit it right down the left field line, now the right field lines.

SPEAKER_13

Dylan steps in here. First pitch is inside for ball one. He had squared a bunt. So it looks like we're gonna try a little small ball ourselves. Try to get Nathan down in scoring position. Dylan was one for two in game number one. Squares again. Bunts that beautifully down third baseline, and it just went foul. I thought third baseman was gonna grab that before it went foul. One ball, one strike. Chase Beck would be due up next.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, on this field turf, you know that's just from a natural spin. Everybody thinks, well, hit the lip of the field where there's no lip. It's all one continuous carpet. It just got a different color to it. So I mean the spin on the ball is what takes it foul on that.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Pops that up and out into short right field. Right fielder able to make the play for out number one, and that will bring Chase back to the plate. Chase did not bat in game number one, so here's a chance for him to do a little damage here in game number two.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, let's get Chase moving here, get a couple hits. I'm sure he'd like to.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. On that inside. Delayed steal by Gaswent. And he's in there.

SPEAKER_03

Nice job by Nathan.

SPEAKER_13

That was a very delayed steal.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, good job. Coach Taylor said he was going to be aggressive today, and I like it. I mean, you got to get him down there somewhere. You've got to put him in scoring position.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Nice. Get out to the shortstop. Nathan decided to take off for third. Now he's in a bit of a rundown.

SPEAKER_03

Oh.

SPEAKER_13

And he's out at second base.

SPEAKER_03

Thought maybe he got underneath that.

SPEAKER_13

For out number two. Beck reaches on the fielder's choice. And that will bring up Aiden Lefaver. A little too aggressive there. I mean, that was that was hit right to the shortstop. There was really no reason for Nathan to take off other than some aggressive base running trying to make something happen. And unfortunately, it was a negative outcome.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, a good job by the shortstop going to third on that play. And uh getting Nathan uh in pickle.

SPEAKER_13

First pitch to Aiden in there for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Chase able to get back in time.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Chase hit that ball hard. I mean, again, we're just hitting it right to them.

SPEAKER_13

Aiden hits that over into foul territory. Abraham Lincoln, first baseman, makes a leaping attempt over there right at the edge of the dugout and not able to hold on. One ball, one strike. Great effort there by on his part to try to make that play.

SPEAKER_03

You know, and he did everything right there too. You found the fence, find the fence, and then you uh you try to make a spectacular play, and he just missed it. We got something going on. Aiden taking a long look down to third base.

SPEAKER_13

Lane checks the runner at first, and here's the pitch. Runner goes. Yeah, he's out there. Chase Beck will be in there safely. Runner at second, two outs. Bottom of the second inning, Crusaders trail four to one, trying to get a push or run across here.

SPEAKER_03

Here's a chance for Aiden to help his cause, you know, get something in the gap, get something through the infield. Chase Beck's got some good wheels over there to score.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_03

I just missed it.

SPEAKER_13

Fouls that one into the netting down the first baseline. One ball, two strikes. Yeah, he had a couple nice hits on Saturday in that JV tournament that were into the gap. So pretty much the same situation he's in right now.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, this is big at bat. You know, you you you cut this thing in half, make it four to two.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Way outside. Two balls, two strikes. If Aiden can get on, Cal Ghisi would be due up next. Chase dancing around out there.

SPEAKER_03

Nice. Good eyes. Good at bat by Aiden.

SPEAKER_13

Well, that turns out to be a walk for Aiden. Runners at first and second, two outs. Cal Geesey. Steps up to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

Here's our boy. Hendrick Seaton.

SPEAKER_13

Hendrick Seaton's heading in to courtesy run. Cal was one for three as first in the game number one. He'll step in here looking to get a base hit and extend this inning. Four to one, Council Bluffs. We're in the bottom of the second inning.

SPEAKER_03

I mean any way to get on Cal. You got uh JJ Hope coming up. Uh nothing better than to have him come up with bases loaded. And got Cal with some serious speed, and he's taking a look down there. Wouldn't be past him to see him lay one down the third baseline.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch to the plate. Swing and a miss. Strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, good cut by Cal. Just a little bit. Up there by his fist. Good pitch by the pitcher. Got him chasing that one.

SPEAKER_13

Lang turns and throws to second. Great job by the shortstop out there to scoop that up and keep it from getting into center field.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that and you know the center fielder was doing a great job backing that play up, and that's how you do it. And that's how you prevent that guy from going to third if it gets by him.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, that was Lincoln out there at shortstop. He can pitch, he can play the field. Yep. Solid player for Council Bluffs. That pitch is high. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, talk about a solid infield. AL's got a solid infield all the way around.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch to the plate. Outside corner for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Two on, two out. Bottom of the second inning.

SPEAKER_03

Now Cal's got to do it with two here now. You got two outs. Got two strikes. You got to protect the plate. He's got quick wrists, so anything close, he's got to be swinging at.

SPEAKER_13

Lang deals. There you go. Cal fouls that off out of play. Another souvenir for across the street.

SPEAKER_03

The ball's a little up in the zone, but you know, I mean, it's not that high that you don't protect. And Cal did a nice job protecting.

SPEAKER_13

One ball, two strikes. Cal steps back in. Lang checks backpack at second. And here's the pitch. That pitch is high. Two and two.

SPEAKER_03

That's one of those ones. If you've seen that enough times, maybe maybe you just turn around and let that thing hit you in the back.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Oh man. Mine that right to the third baseman. He hit that hard, folks, but it was right to the third baseman for out number three. So the Crusaders leave two runners on in the bottom of the second. We will head to the top of the third. Crusaders trail four to one. We'll see you back here in 60.

SPEAKER_10

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_13

Welcome back to the top of the third. Council Bluffs will send Garst, Donner, and Lang to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, these are three tough outs for the Crusaders and a very important inning for Aiden Lefaver. He's got to really come up, be big for us this inning, and guys got to make some plays. We got to keep this 4-1 ball game, Mike, and again just try to cut into it in our next at bat.

SPEAKER_13

Garf steps in from the left side. He flew out to Dillon in center field his first time up. Grounds that out to second base, and nobody's covering first. Ball gets away as Aiden tries to cover. So Garst reaches. Throw over to first, gets away from Jonas over there. Not far enough for the runner to advance. Again, our next broadcast will be Thursday afternoon from East High. Game time 5.30 and 7.30. And pre-game will be right around 5.15. So if you can't make it out there, tune in. And if you are planning on going, get there early. Because it'll be packed. No balls or one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we need to manufacture a ground ball here and work ourselves into a double play. Infield's kind of playing both towards second base.

SPEAKER_13

Throw over to first. Got him leaning, but he's back in time. He was leaning as if he was gonna go, but was able to get back in plenty of time.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they have no trouble playing aggressive baseball. Coach Tyler, he's uh he's very aggressive at the base pass.

SPEAKER_13

That pitch fouled back. One ball, one strike. Yeah, as a team, they've stolen 96 bases this year.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they're they're very aggressive. Coach Bitsky is he's been and he's been aggressive all night, and I don't look for him to change on any of these guys.

SPEAKER_13

Runner goes. Yeah. Peyton not able to get that from glove to hand in time. So Gartst gets into second base, so runner at second base with no outs. Two balls, one strike. Yeah, they've got 96 stolen bases and 108 attempts. So uh they're not afraid to run.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we got to get back to sharp baseball. We're right now we're just we're just not playing sharp baseball. You know, our movement, our our body language, everything. We just just got to get ourselves up here, get out of this inning. Yeah, this guy, yeah, you know, let's we don't need to deal with him. Let's get let's just get this out here.

SPEAKER_13

Aiden checks the runner. Here we go. That's hit out. JJ backs up, settles under it, makes the catch for out number one, and that will bring Lang to the plate. Garst unable to advance. So one out, runner at second base. We're here in the top of the third inning. Crusaders trail four to one.

SPEAKER_03

That's what I'm talking about right there, Mike. I mean, get aggressive, uh get that first out, just go after the batter.

SPEAKER_13

Lang flew out to Nathan Gaswin to end the first inning. Hayden checks the runner back at second, comes to the plate. Good breaking ball, but bounces in there for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Here's the pitch. Nice pitch. It must have been just high for ball two. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I don't know where that was. That that that was a beautiful pitch on the outside corner about case a little less than just underneath his belt there.

SPEAKER_13

Got him. They got him at second base. Great throw down by Peyton Erickson. Beautiful. Chase back slides over and tags him out for out number two.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about right there, Mike. That's some good sharp baseball. Nice play by Peyton Erickson.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, he danced off a little bit too far and paid a price for it. Two balls, one strike. So now we can focus on laying here at the plate, try to get out of this inning. Three up, three down.

SPEAKER_03

That's just what the doctor ordered right there.

SPEAKER_13

Pitch. That's grounded. JJ able to slide over.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_13

Oh, just missed him, folks. JJ had to go deep in the hole to his right, and that was a bang bang play at first base. That was a fantastic play by Jace Hope. Chase Hope. JJ Hope.

SPEAKER_03

Boy, that just, I mean, we're talking inches. That was a great play to his right side. He has to go down to his knee to make the grab, turn up and throw. Yeah, and we've really seen an improvement on JJ's uh arm strength over the season, and that just showed it right there.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, that'll bring Lincoln to the plate. Yeah, that would have been one of those in college where uh first baseman probably would have put his hands to his ears and said, let's let's check that replay. Yeah. That was really, really close, folks. Hayden checks the runner at first base, deals. That pitch fouled back. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I don't look for Coach Vitsky to be uh any less aggressive. I mean, even with two outs, yeah, he's shown that he'll he'll let everybody every one of them the the guys in his lineup he'll send them. He's got speed up and down the lineup.

SPEAKER_13

Aiden Deals that's lined out over JJ Hope at short.

SPEAKER_03

Going to third.

SPEAKER_13

Going to third. We're gonna have to play a third, folks.

SPEAKER_03

And he's out. Beautiful throw by Dylan now.

SPEAKER_13

Great, great job. So that will retire the side on a great throw from center field. Uh Cal Ghisi down there at third base. He caught it, made the play for out number three. We're gonna go to the bottom of the third Crusaders trail this one four to one. We'll be back here in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_10

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic Radio Station.

SPEAKER_13

Getting ready for the bottom of the third inning here. Again, hard hit ball right at somebody.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but anyway, uh if if you're really watching the play, Cal Geezy did an absolute outstanding job of he just kind of stood over the base, which makes the runner think that there's no play at third base. And so when that ball gets there, he immediately just catches it and puts the glove down. That's taught. That's not that's not natural instinct. That's taught and just an exceptional job by Cal.

SPEAKER_13

Here's first pitch to Caleb. Singled his first time up. And his courtesy runner, Heaton. No, he Caleb scored the run. So he sing doubled his first time up and scored a run. The only run for the Crusaders. That pitch on the outside corner. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, nice fastball outside corner. He's kind of changing it up on uh Caleb. He went curveball, curvedball his last at bat, and I noticed fastball, fastball here. Another one.

SPEAKER_13

I noticed the right fielder's playing a lot closer to the line than he was first time.

SPEAKER_03

You just can't. With him, he takes the ball all over the field.

SPEAKER_13

One ball, two strikes. Pitch outside. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we there's probably no better uh patient hitter than than Caleb Lefavre as far as taking it to different directions of the field. He's he's extremely patient and really looks for the gaps.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Bounces that out to the shortstop.

SPEAKER_03

There we go. Got away from it.

SPEAKER_13

And there's an error there. Caleb reaches for the second time tonight on the error by the first baseman. And that will bring up Tommy Carroll, who sacrificed his last time up.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, this is exactly you know what they've been doing to us all night, Mike, is they've been finding ways to get on, either by error, hit by pitch. Now let's take that error that they have and let's manufacture a run and get back in this game.

SPEAKER_13

Deals to Tommy. That pitch outside for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Boy, he works fast as pitcher.

SPEAKER_13

Tommy fouls that off out of play. No balls, two strikes. One out. Crusaders trail four to one here in the bottom of the third inning. They lost game number one, seven to one. Here's the pitch. Hit hard out to center field, right at the center fielder for out number two.

SPEAKER_03

Boy, I tell you what, this is just this deja vu. I mean, I know you've been hearing from us talk like this all night about how we're but it's I mean it's true. We are just hitting the heck out of the ball, but we're just hitting it right to him. Good piece of hitting by Tommy Carroll. I mean, you can't, you know, don't be down on yourself on that. You put the barrel on the ball.

SPEAKER_13

Peyton Erickson hit a hard shot down to the third baseman. His first time up. Here's the pitch. Behind him for ball one, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, just about hit him. Just over his shoulders. He had a duck.

SPEAKER_13

Throw over. Caleb back in time.

SPEAKER_03

Catcher threw down to first page trying to get him. He's you know, he's got Peyton up the bat. He says, hey, anything you can do, I can do better.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Inside ball two, two balls, no strikes. Again, thank you to the parents and family of the Council Bluff team for listening in. Hope you're enjoying the game. And thank you to the folks on Game Changer for tuning in as well.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's an opportunity here. Two outs. I look for us to try to move him down to second base here, Mike.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. That pitch outside. Three balls, no strikes. Nathan Gaswin awaits his turn.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, we've been talking about timely hitting. You know, teams have been doing it on us all year long with two outs, and we've done it to some other teams with two outs, but you know, let's keep this thing going. Let's keep this inning going. Let's produce a couple runs, and that's why they make three outs, boys and girls.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Outside corner for strike one. Three balls, one strike. Some more bright news for the Healing team as I noticed that Brody is actually in uniform tonight. Still has a cast on his hand, obviously, from the broken thumb, but uh he was in street clothes the last uh few games that we've seen. Caleb goes. And that was ball four. Runners at first and second with two outs, and that'll bring Nathan Gaswin to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

Here we go. Got a guy in scoring position. And uh here we go. Nathan likes to take that ball to right field, we all know, but then we've seen him just turn on it and take it down the left field line. So you never know with Nathan. He's um you can't describe how he hits. He's an extremely good two-strike hitter.

SPEAKER_13

And as I call his name out for being in uniform, Brody Shaner heads down to first base to courtesy run for Peyton Erickson here.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I had a chance to say hi to Brody uh before the games, and he said, I said, You're in uniform today, and he said, Yep, says uh pinch running. So I said, All right.

SPEAKER_13

Good good for him.

SPEAKER_03

Get him back.

SPEAKER_13

First pitch to Nathan is high for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Runners at first and second with two outs here in the bottom of the third. Crusaders trying to push some runs across and cut into this lead.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, this guy he likes to throw a curveball for a strike, so it's trouble. Dang it.

SPEAKER_13

Oh, he Oh, second baseman misplayed it. Uh error by the second baseman will load the bases.

SPEAKER_03

Here we go.

SPEAKER_13

And that will bring Dylan Knapp to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

Great opportunity for Dylan. He's been hitting the ball hard all night, so let's hit it where they aren't, Dylan.

SPEAKER_13

Dylan flew out to right field his first time up. So the Crusaders have the bases loaded with two outs. Need some timely two-out hitting here.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, just get up there, relax, Dylan, and and take what they give you. And I mean, this would be a huge, huge at bat for Dylan.

SPEAKER_13

I'll take a pass ball that gets away from the catcher to get at least one run in here.

SPEAKER_03

Anything.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the first pitch. Outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, curveball the outside corner. That's painted the black on the outside. Nice job by the catcher framing that thing.

SPEAKER_13

Lane checks the runner at second. Here's the pitch. Gets away. Caleb comes in and scores the second run of the game for the Crusaders. That makes it four to two. All the runners move up one base. So we've got runners at second and third. Two runners in scoring position. Dylan Knapp at the plate. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

There we go, Mike. We've got guys on second and third. Got the tying run on second base. The go-ahead run at the plate.

SPEAKER_13

Check it. Gas went back at second. And here's the pitch. Outside corner. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he's he's really working that outside corner on Dylan. And wouldn't be surprised to see the catcher go in on this one. Nope, he's going same spot.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Dylan fouls that off. Count remains. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, good job by Dylan.

SPEAKER_13

Two on, two outs. Crusaders have pushed one run across to cut the lead to four to two. Trying to do some more damage here in the bottom of the third. Here's the pitch. That pitch is high. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, good good patient at bat by Dillon. It's got him even now. Two and two.

SPEAKER_13

Long look in by Lang, checks the runners, and here's the pitch. He did not offer. No. That will bring the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Two on, two out. Crusaders trail this one four to two, but they've got a chance to do some serious damage here.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he's gonna come with that curveball in the outside corner, Mike.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch to Dylan. Swing and a miss. Dylan strikes out to end the inning, but the Crusaders are able to get one run back. We're gonna head to the top of the fourth inning, Crusaders trail four to two, and we'll see you back here in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_10

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_13

We're back here. It's gonna be the top of the fourth inning. Abraham Lincoln will send Adler, Clark, and Walton to the plate. Bottom of the third was another case of getting some guys in scoring position and not be able to push them across.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you know, at least we scratched one across, Mike, and cut that in half. So now we're down 4-2 with four more bats to knock into this lead. Looks like Aiden's kind of settled in here a little bit, had a nice inning last inning. Actually, he had a nice inning in the second inning, too, but uh we made a couple miscues. Um, well, one in particular, uh, to kind of keep that inning going. So, but a really nice sharp play by Peyton Erickson coming back on the runner to get that out. Uh I mean things like that. Things that we're used to seeing in the Crusaders. And and and like you said, maybe that's what it takes to kind of get us jump started, and we come back, score a run, and just let's keep it going.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, let's hope so. Adler steps in here. Here's the first pitch. Bounces that one in there for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Adler has scored one of the four council bluff runs here in game number two. Was over two with a walk in game one. Here's the pitch. Just misses ball two, two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, good pitch on the inside corner, just a little bit high.

SPEAKER_13

Aiden deals. That pitch high for ball three. Three balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

And now, you know, Aiden's got to battle back here. You don't want to lose this guy.

SPEAKER_13

You got here's the pitch. There we go. Catches that outside corner for strike one. Three balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you gotta keep battling back here. I mean, you don't want this guy on. They do they move the ball really well when they get guys out. There we go.

SPEAKER_13

That's grounded down to Jonas at first, takes it unassisted for out number one.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that sun is really coming down on that right side of the field.

SPEAKER_13

Jonas and Gaslin and Yeah, even Chase there at second if it's if it's hitting the right spot. So uh got to keep the ball down low if it's headed over that way. Clark will step in, doubled, and sacrifice pitcher to first. He has scored one of the four links runs in game number two. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_03

You call that a ball?

SPEAKER_13

Uh yeah, low ball one, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but I mean I didn't miss much. That looked like to me like it was right at the knees.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. That pitch breaks in there for strike one, one ball, one strike. Kind of a delayed call on that strike. I was wondering if we were watching a different game. Here's the wind up in the pitch. Outside. Two balls, one strike. Here's the wind up. Nice. Outside corner strike two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, really caught the black on the outside corner. So he's gonna come in and he's gonna step in, and which he is. He's stepping a little bit closer. He's gonna try to take that outside corner away.

SPEAKER_13

That hit hard foul down the third baseline. Count remains two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that curveball just kind of hung there, and he was able to turn on it, take that ball down left field, just missed the uh just foul. So kind of a mistake that Aiden was able to get get away with here. Now you gotta come back and and paint that outside corner or or cut her in.

SPEAKER_13

That pitch gets away from Peyton, brings the count full. Aiden with a long look in here, and he deals. That ball popped up. JJ Hope's gonna settle under it out there at shortstop for out number two.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, good job by Aiden. He came back on that first batter, was down 3-0 on the first batter, and battled back and got the out. And same thing here. Although he got ahead in this guy and then and then got it down to a 3-2 again, another full count, but able to get out of it. And these are the things that have to happen for you to kind of give yourself a chance to get back in this ball game.

SPEAKER_13

There's the first pitch. That pitch is high for ball one, one ball, no strikes. That pitch in there for strike one, one ball, one strike. Craig is due up next.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he's got kind of this this uh really squatty stance in there to try to minimize the strike zone. I mean, that's really a strike. I mean, you gotta look at the batter when he's standing straight up, not when he's in his uh stance where he's squatting really low.

SPEAKER_13

Two balls, one strike. Here's a pitch. At pitch, fouled off out of play down the first baseline. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

You know, as an umpire, that's the first thing you do. You look at the you look at the batter, and and you you can't look at his at his stance because a lot of those guys try to minimize the strike zone by getting down low. You've got to look at him when he's standing straight up, and that's his strike zone.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Gets away from Peyton back to the backstop. That'll make it full count. Three balls, two strikes, two outs here in the top of the fourth. Crusaders trail this one four to two. Trying to get a split of this doubleheader. They lost game one, seven to one.

SPEAKER_03

Here we go again. Full count. Uh Aiden's worked uh worked everybody better this inning to full count.

SPEAKER_13

Aiden with the long look here. Uncharacteristic long look. Here's the wind up and the pitch. That's it.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, just out of his reach.

SPEAKER_13

Just out of reach of a diving JJ Hope. Walton reaches with the single. Great effort there by JJ. That'll put a runner at first base with two outs, and that'll bring Craig to the plate. Sacrifice fly to center field his first time up and singled his second time up.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, just. Strong looking kid. You got to keep it out of his wheelhouse. Ooh, got him. Got him.

SPEAKER_13

And Aiden picks the runner off at first base for out number three. That will retire the links in order. And we'll go to the bottom of the fourth, Crusader's Trail 4-2. We'll talk to you again in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_10

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio sports.

SPEAKER_13

They're going to send Chase Beck, Aiden Lefaver, and Cal Geese to the plate to get things started. Try to cut into this lead or take a lead. Here's the first pitch.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, here we go, Mike. I mean, this is a huge inning. We got to manufacture a run here and get back in this game and make it a one-run ball game.

SPEAKER_13

First pitch is high for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

This is the bottom of the order, so I mean we need to do something with this. Good swing by Chase.

SPEAKER_13

Swing and a miss there. Strike one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he just missed that. Nice base hit. Well, it'd be just what uh just what we ordered here.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, like we talked about. We need some seeing eye singles. That's what we need here.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we've been hitting the heck out of the ball. We just can't get that thing through, and we're hitting it right to them.

SPEAKER_13

Two balls, one strike to chase. Lang delivers to the plate. That pitch in there for strike two. Two balls, two strikes. That pitch there is probably the most inconsistent the umpire's been. It's it's sometimes it's strike, sometimes it's a ball.

SPEAKER_03

It's yeah, just that it's that waist high strike, is what it is. Here's the pitch. That's gonna be strike three.

SPEAKER_13

Got him looking for strike three.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Beck goes down looking for out number one. That'll bring Aiden LaFaver to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think he was looking for a fastball, and he threw a curveball and cut that outside corner.

unknown

I did not.

SPEAKER_13

Aiden walked his first time up. He'll be followed by Cal Ghisi.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we kind of started something a little bit his last at that. And here we go. And you've got number eight and nine in the order. Let's get on and let JJ give JJ a chance.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the first pitch. In there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he's throwing that curveball for a strike every time. And we've got to be a little more aggressive up there and start jumping on that first pitch.

SPEAKER_13

Lang deals. Oh that pitch outside for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that one that one was definitely a little bit outside, Mike. And now you got yourself in a hole, you got to protect. Let's go in the same spot.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

But the left fielder able to settle under it for out number two. That'll bring Cal Geez to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

Well, here we go. I mean, two outs. Let's start something with two.

SPEAKER_13

Cal lined out hard to the third baseman his first time up.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, nice at bat by Cal last time. Worked it to, I think I think he had a 2-2 count and really did a nice job protecting at the plate.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the first pitch. Hits that out to right field again. He can't. He was able to find it. So the Crusaders go three up, three down in the bottom of the fourth inning. We're going to head to the top of the fifth. Crusaders trail four to two. We'll be waiting for you in 60.

SPEAKER_16

SPEAKER_10

And now back to your Crusader sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_13

Got a pitching change for the Crusaders here. Jackson Vickery takes over for Aiden Lefaver.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Aiden did a nice job, settled in there, Mike. Threw a lot of pitches, but was able to get out of those jams. Probably should have had just three runs in the first inning with uh 0-0-0 after that, but we gave up a run in the second inning. On I think uh they got on on an error and kind of a miscue and then scored. But really good job by Aiden. I mean, solid effort. I'm sure Coach got got out of him what he wanted. And uh now Vickery, who came in and did a nice job in the last game in the seventh inning. So let's see what uh Vickery can do, see if he can keep him keep him shut out and give ourselves a chance.

SPEAKER_13

Council Bluffs will send Craig, Becker, and Garst to the plate. Craig is singled and sacrifice fly to center field his two times up. Pickering steps on here. Here's the wind-up in the pitch.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, he went.

SPEAKER_13

Appeal down to first base, and the first base umpire says no, he did not offer, so it's one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, he definitely went. That's I don't he must not have seen it. There's no no question he went.

SPEAKER_13

Well the sun's in his eyes down here.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that that's a tough call. I don't I'm not gonna here's the pitch. Not gonna lie.

SPEAKER_13

That pitch fouled off across the street. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, with that sun and down first baseline. That's it's tough to see it. And I imagine it's tough for him to see that as well. But here we go, one on one.

SPEAKER_13

Well, from Peyton's angle, he was sure that he went around.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, there's no question, but here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_13

Just high for ball two. Two balls, one strike. Shout out to Grace Tott taking care of things back in the studio for us. We appreciate her every game that she's working for us.

SPEAKER_03

And Jack Stevens as well. Jack went down and got our scorecard or our uh lineup card for us today and has been taking pictures uh for Catholic Radio. Does a great job. Check him out there on the Facebook page.

SPEAKER_13

Ball four. Excuse me, ball four. Craig draws the walk. He'll try it down to first. That'll bring Becker to the plate, who has walked and flown out to center field his two times up.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we need to just kind of work that inside outside corner, Mike. Um get manufacture a ground ball here. Try to get a double play, but at least get that lead runner at second base if possible.

SPEAKER_13

Pick redeals for plate. Outside, ball one, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Peyton's. Peyton's going out, talking to him a little bit. That's five straight balls. And he's not missing by much. Just gotta tweak something here a little bit.

SPEAKER_13

Check of the runner at first. And here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_03

He turned on that one.

SPEAKER_13

Turned on that one, hit it foul. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

All that is is a long strike, Mike. So we're right back in here. It's one and one.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, unfortunately for us in these two games, if we'd have hit that, we'd have lined it out to the third baseman.

SPEAKER_03

No doubt.

SPEAKER_13

One ball, one strike. Runner at first. Council Bluffs leads four to two. We're in the top of the fifth. Throw it first, back in time.

SPEAKER_03

Well, you had him.

SPEAKER_13

That pitch outside, two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

I'll show you how to get rid of him, Mike. We got we got a little nuisance fly here. We're gonna try to get rid of.

SPEAKER_13

Mike, uh doing a little big game hunting here between pitches. Here's a pitch. Throw down a first, back in plenty of time. Three balls, one strike. Garst is due up next.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Garst has been has had our number here, so this is important. Work a double play ball here.

SPEAKER_13

Come back and here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_03

Boy, what do you did? Must have been.

SPEAKER_13

Full count. Three balls, two strikes. Sumpire doesn't give much of a signal, so no, I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know how that misses. I really don't know if that was a ball or a strike, Mike, to be honest.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. We know that was a strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Strike out for the first out of the inning, and that will bring Garch to the plate. Flight out to center field and reached on an error. His last time up.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Garch likes to just he he he has this half swing, is what he does. He he kind of just sticks the bat out there and he uses his speed. He's got great speed down the line. And this is gonna be a tough out, but it definitely an out we can possibly manufacture a ground ball to work to second base and impossible double play. I mean he hits a lot of ground balls.

SPEAKER_13

Thrower to first, runner back in time. Here's the pitch. Delayed steal, throw down to second, and he's out at second base. Great throw down by JJ Hope for out number two.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, great release by Peyton. I mean, he he was able to recover. The ball got away from him just a little bit, got up, guy tried to steal, and just a beautiful throw down to second base.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, it actually helped when it got away from him because the runner was going back to first when he saw it got away. He took off.

SPEAKER_03

There's that snatch.

SPEAKER_13

Yep. It's effective for him.

SPEAKER_03

He's a tough out. He just sticks the bat out.

SPEAKER_13

Single for Garst. That puts him down at first base. That's huge now that throw out down at second because it keeps a runner out of scoring position. So two down for Council Bluffs here in the top of the fifth. They lead four to two. They've got Garst at first base, and that'll bring Donner to the plate. Hit by a pitch and popped out to short his two times up in this game.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, with Garst speed, I wouldn't be surprised. See if Coach Gilkey sends that guy down. He's been very aggressive all game.

SPEAKER_13

Throw over. Garst back in time. We've done a lot more throwing the ball over to first base this game, I think, than we have all season.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, victory's been right around the zone.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, called it. Outside corner.

SPEAKER_13

Strike one, no balls one strike. Peyton says thank you on that one.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that was one of those ones. Caught the outside corner and uh it might have been a little bit low, but we'll take it.

SPEAKER_13

Pitch outside, ball one, one ball, one strike. Lang is due up next.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think Peyton's thrown out four guys today, and he's had a really nice day as far as throwing runners out.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. It's high. Fakes throw down to first. Two balls, one strike. He's trying to catch him sleeping.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, now Vickery's got to come back here. He's got to work, he's worked himself into a 2-0 count here, so you now you've got to battle back. Gotta hit your spots.

SPEAKER_13

That pitch is inside.

SPEAKER_03

A lot of people sitting up under the trees, Mike, down the left field line.

SPEAKER_13

I can't imagine it's any cooler down there than it is anywhere else tonight.

SPEAKER_03

No. Yeah, it's just kind of dead. These flags are are just straight down.

SPEAKER_13

Throw over? Back just in time. That was close.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, now you gotta battle back down three-o. Just play catch with paint here.

SPEAKER_13

Throw over? Back in time. Jackson checks the runner deals. And it hit him.

SPEAKER_03

He didn't even try to get out of the way though. I I that's one of those ones. That ball was not that far inside, Mike, and he just kind of turned and leaned, and he's wearing the gear on his elbow. So I I don't know.

SPEAKER_14

I I remember why.

SPEAKER_03

Peyton's arguing that with a little bit with the umpire. I think he's saying the same thing.

SPEAKER_13

That'll bring Lang to the plate. Singled and flew out to right field is two times up.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, now you got a bear down here. You got guys on first and second, and can't really afford to give up any more runs here.

SPEAKER_13

No, bit needs to end here. Turned on that one, and that is hit foul. Another long strike. No balls, one strike. Yeah, if they did away with all that hardware, I bet these guys would work a little harder getting out of the way.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's the thing. And then they're seeing it. It's at the next level and in college and it it's in the pros.

SPEAKER_13

Pitch. Outside corner strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, nice pitch by by Mr. Vickery there on the outside corner. Good curve ball. Get him down 0-2. Yeah, work that outside corner, Payton.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, he's here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_03

Got by him.

SPEAKER_13

Gets away from Peyton. One ball, two strikes. Runners will advance. Two runners in scoring position now. Second and third with two outs. Crusaders trail four to two. Cannot afford to give up any more runs.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Jackson was trying to paint that outside corner, maybe a little bit outside. Hung on to the ball a little too long on the curved ball, and it got away way to the to the right of Peyton. Would have been a tough block for him. But now you got two guys in scoring position. You gotta settle down here.

SPEAKER_13

There's a pitch. Just high for ball two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you got two and two. Nice. Got a couple of things.

SPEAKER_13

It out to JJ. It's short. Throw over to first, and he's out. So six to three ends the inning. No runs for Council Bluffs there in the top of the fifth. We're gonna go to the bottom of the fifth. Crusaders trail four to two. We'll catch you in 60.

SPEAKER_10

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_13

Heading to the bottom of the fifth inning. Crusaders trail this one four to two. They'll send up JJ Hope, Caleb LeFavor, and Tommy Carroll to get things started here in this inning.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, this would be a great chance for us to dig back in here. Get the top of the order. Let's go back to the end of that last inning. What a huge play by JJ. There's only one kid on the field that can make that play. That ball was way to his right. He feels that thing and just has a great throw over there. I mean that that saved us two runs there, Mike. And let's see if we can turn things around here.

SPEAKER_13

Need to get it going here. That's bottom of the fifth. Time's running out for the Crusaders. Top of the order up, and here we go. First pitch. And JJ squared a bunt, and they said he offered at it. So that is strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know how you make that call from over there, but JJ doesn't like it. I don't like it. I think he got the I think he got his back back. That's okay. Now you're 0-1 here.

SPEAKER_13

Just here's the pitch. In there for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, now you gotta protect. You're down 0-2. He might try to sneak one in here, Mike.

SPEAKER_13

There's the pitch. And that hit him.

SPEAKER_03

That's how you do it. It's just let you let it hit you.

SPEAKER_13

JJ hustles down to first base. That'll bring Caleb Lefaver to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

And it really, you know, and it doesn't matter how you get on, Mike. You get on. That's what the on-base percentage is in this in these stats. And I look at that a lot of times before I look at the batting average. That tells me who's getting on, who's not.

SPEAKER_13

Caleb steps in. He has doubled and reached on an error. He scored both Crusader runs tonight. Between innings, I looked down. I saw a parent with a shirt on that said, Dead President's game. So it must be when they played Thomas Jefferson. Because they had a picture of Jefferson and a picture of Lincoln on the on the front of it. I thought that was interesting. JJ back in plenty of time.

SPEAKER_03

A lot of chirping going on out there. I love it. They know JJ. I mean, they know the wheels he's got.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Outside to Caleb for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that was a straight pitch out. That was a called pitch out by the catcher. They they threw that ball up and out to give the catcher a better chance to throw JJ out.

SPEAKER_13

Throw over. JJ back in plenty of time. So first game went really quickly. The start of this game was going really quickly, and now that we've decided to play catch between pitcher and first base, things have slowed way down. JJ goes. That pitch fouled off at the plate. One ball, one strike. JJ had it stolen. If that pitch isn't fouled off.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Got a little bit of the catcher there.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think so.

SPEAKER_13

He's he's walking around shaking his hand and slammed the ball down to the ground when he came up and did a little bit of walking around out there. Now he's back there, ready to go. Throw over. JJ back in time. Might even try the old hidden ball trick to try to get JJ out over there. Swing and a miss by Caleb. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, took a lot off that pitch. Nice slow curveball or a changeup. Looked to me like a curveball, but didn't have a lot of break.

SPEAKER_13

Throw over JJ back in time. Throw over again. JJ back in time. Feels like Groundhog Day. Oh my gosh. All we need is Bill Murray to pop his head in.

SPEAKER_03

He's hoping to tire JJ out so he doesn't run.

SPEAKER_13

That pitch is high for ball two. Two balls, two strikes. Tommy Carroll is due up next.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's another pitch out. That was another called pitch out by the catcher. They thought JJ would be going there, so now you got two and two. Oh. Umpires warning our bench to keep it down a little bit.

SPEAKER_13

Alright, we'll step back in here. Two balls, two strikes. JJ Hope at first base, no outs. Here's the pitch. Oh. That's Caleb turned on that one, but hit it foul. Far and foul down the first baseline.

SPEAKER_03

He absolutely smashed that thing. That thing's still rolling across Rebecca.

SPEAKER_13

Count remains. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I look for a hit and run here.

SPEAKER_13

JJ back in plenty of time. JJ goes. That pitch is outside. JJ's got it stolen. JJ Hope down at second base. Count is full on Caleb Lefaver. Three balls, two strikes. Tommy Carroll do up next.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, here we go. You got the right guy at the plate. You got uh JJ at second. And uh this is situation baseball now, folks. We got JJ down there. You got a good uh good hitter at the plate. Anything through the infield scores, JJ.

SPEAKER_13

Abraham Lincoln dug out, chirping at Caleb there. He steps out.

SPEAKER_03

And no. Now you got them both chirping. The umpires looking, he's checking both.

SPEAKER_13

This is like being at a healing east game right now. I love it. Here's the pitch. That pitch is outside, he walks him. Runners at first and second with no outs, and that will bring Tommy Carroll to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Tommy does a nice job of uh sacrificing the guys, so I I wouldn't be surprised to see him bunt him over here, Mike. But we've also seen Coach Taylor do a double steal, too.

SPEAKER_13

We're gonna have a pitching change, and that will bring uh is it number 12? Uh here took the ball.

SPEAKER_03

That would be Drake Adderburn. Drake Adderburn. Let's see if that's him. Looks like that's gonna be that's gonna be him pitching.

SPEAKER_13

Yep, it sure is. So while we've got this pitching change, let's take a 60-second break, and we'll be back to finish this bottom of the fifth inning.

You're listening to FM 88.1, KFHC, Ponka Sioux City, and KOIA, Storm Lake, Siouxland Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_10

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic Radio Station.

SPEAKER_13

Welcome back, folks. We're here in the bottom of the fifth inning. Crusaders have two runners on with no outs. They trail four to two. Tommy Carroll will step in to face the new pitcher.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Drake Arterburn is the new pitcher, Mike, and just by watching him warm up, looks a lot like the guy that was in there before him. Not overpowering fastball. Throws a kind of a hanging curve. Looks like he throws that hanging curve for a strike. So really not a lot different other than maybe his release. Tommy got a good look at him while he was warming up.

SPEAKER_13

So yeah, after watching this AL team, East better become better come ready to play if they've got to face him. Here's the pitch. JJ goes. Double steal. Nobody's covering second. JJ slid into third. I think if he'd have stayed on his feet, he might have tried to score. Runners at second and third with no outs. We've got a chance here, folks, to I love it.

SPEAKER_03

I love it. We were just talking about this in between innings, Mike, on what we would do. Tommy Carroll's a good bunner, and we've seen him sacrifice, but we also know we got such good speed, it wouldn't surprise us to see a double steal and boom.

SPEAKER_13

Yep. Quote a long time radio broadcaster. Hug your radios, Crusader fans. We need some runs here. Here we go. Here's the pitch. That gets away just a little bit. Two balls, no strikes to Tommy Carroll.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he's having a little trouble finding the plate here.

SPEAKER_13

We'll take that. I'll take a pass ball to cut this to a one-run lead.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Tommy's got a really nice job here of uh opportunity, excuse me, of bringing a couple runs in here.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Yeah. Breaks that one in there for a strike. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's that curveball. That's his go-to pitch, Mike. That's his strike pitch.

unknown

That's really rare actually under the circumstances where that's going to happen.

SPEAKER_03

I look for him to throw another one.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. That pitch high for ball three. Three balls, one strike. Again, runners at second and third. No outs here in the bottom of the fifth. Crusaders trail four to two. Looking to cut into this lead and possibly tie it. Here's the pitch. That pitch breaks in there for strike two. Three balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

I think Tommy was looking for that curveball. Threw that fastball in for a strike. Here we go. Base base or a full count. Guys on second and third.

SPEAKER_13

Infield is in. Here's the pitch. Outside corner got him looking for strike three. Definitely can't afford to be doing that when you're trailing four to two. That'll bring Peyton Erickson to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that got that fastball in for a strike on his last two pitches. He'd been struggling with that the first couple, so looks like he's found it.

SPEAKER_13

Peyton Erickson will take his chances here.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you got to find a way to get in. Anything.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the first pitch to Peyton. Outside ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

You know, we've seen some weird things here with our guys. We've got such good speed. I mean, even a sacrifice here, Mike, a suicide squeeze, uh, anything. Got to get a run across here.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Bounces in there for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. In a game this close, something I've noticed here the last couple innings is there's a lot more umpires have showed up in the stands.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. That's on the outside corner for strike one. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they they figure they they paid their seven dollars. They got to get their money's worth.

SPEAKER_13

Absolutely. Just a fun high school baseball game here on Tuesday night. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_03

Oh man.

SPEAKER_13

That pitch way outside for strike two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, he knows that that that thing was way outside. But you know what? I mean, here you go. Now you're two-and-two. You got to protect the plate. Anything close. He's going out. Going out there.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_03

That's gonna score a run.

SPEAKER_13

Grounded weakly to the pitcher. He's gonna throw to first for the out.

SPEAKER_03

Almost overthrew it.

SPEAKER_13

Almost overthrew him. That'll make the score four to three. Caleb LaFaver advances down to third. JJ Hope scores the run. That will bring Nathan Gaswent to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

He did his job. You know what? I mean, we had to get a run in there. He had to make this a one-run game. And you know, I mean, that you can't waste two guys down a second and third no outs. Now you got the hot hit and uh Nathan Gaswent up.

SPEAKER_13

He is singled and reached on an error his two times up, so now's a good time for another hit. That pitch in there high for strike one. No balls, one strike. Both batting orders are really confused as to as to what they should swing at, what they shouldn't swing at at this point. That pitch bounces in there for ball one. One ball, one strike. Dylan Knapp awaits his opportunity. Nathan can extend the inning here. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_03

Just missed it.

SPEAKER_13

Got under that. It's out of play. Lands harmlessly in the grass outside. One ball, two strikes. Crusaders have pushed one run across here in the bottom of the fifth. They trail four to three. Caleb Lefaver down at third base. Would dearly love to bring home run number four. Here's the pitch. That bounces in there. Oh man. Gets away not far enough.

SPEAKER_03

He thought about it. Just not quite out of his reach.

SPEAKER_13

Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Good hustle by the catcher getting out there and getting the ball and keeping that thing from letting Caleb score.

SPEAKER_13

Long look. Here's the pitch. Bounces in there. Not far enough away. That brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Two outs. Runner at third base. Yeah, it's getting just enough of the catcher that it's not getting far enough away for us to be able to score.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's two in a row.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. That's up. High for ball four. Gas went, draws the walk. That puts runners at first and third with two outs. That'll bring Dylan Knapp to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

Right here, man. Let's do the delay double steal, Mike. I I I mean, we gotta get Caleb in. You know what? I think they know we're gonna do it. Look at he's coming out. He calls a timeout, and that's exactly what the pitching coach is doing. He's coming out and says, they've done this before. Our biggest concern is getting rid of this horse fly that's been in it. It's sitting in kind of likes you, Mike. He just likes to sit right in front of you. You get him? Yep, you know what they're right.

SPEAKER_13

You know where they say flies like to land. First and third, two outs. We're in the bottom of the fifth. Crusaders trail four to three. Dylan Knapp steps in to try to tie this game.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we got something. I mean, Coach Taylor is working something. I mean, this is a perfect perfect opportunity to do it. And what I'm talking about on a delay, we'll wait till this pitch.

SPEAKER_13

Pitch way outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

What I'm talking about with the delay is a lot of times with two strikes, uh, you you get yourself in a pickle and hope that run scores before they tag you.

SPEAKER_13

That pitch is high for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Crusaders have pushed one run across here in the bottom of the fifth. Cut the lead to four to three. Trying to tie this game up with a base hit or a pass ball. Here's the pitch. Whoa. Okay, that ball was low and outside for strike one. Two balls, one strike. That almost looked like it bounced in there.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, that was low. But you know, now get guys in motion here.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss by Dillon, strike two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, here's that two strikes, and I wouldn't be surprised to see us do it here, Mike.

SPEAKER_13

Chase back awaits an opportunity here in the bottom of the fifth.

SPEAKER_03

You gotta manufacture a run right here.

SPEAKER_13

There goes Nathan. That pitch fouled back.

SPEAKER_03

It was on. He was trying to get him to come off and throw at him.

SPEAKER_13

So Nathan will trot back to first base. Count remains two balls, two strikes to Dylan.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he's got to take off a little sooner. Just a little sooner.

SPEAKER_13

It almost looked like they were just gonna let him go. They didn't even make an attempt. There he goes. There he goes.

SPEAKER_03

There it is. This is what you want. They just let him.

SPEAKER_13

And he's in.

SPEAKER_03

Ah, dang it.

SPEAKER_13

Caleb thrown out at home. Nathan able to steal second base, but to no avail. That'll be out number three. Crusaders score one run in the bottom of the fifth. Scores four to three as we head to the top of the sixth. We'll come back and talk to you in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_10

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_13

Jackson Vickery back out on the mound for the Crusaders here as we head to the top of the sixth inning. Abraham Lincoln will send Lincoln, Adler, and Clark to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, let's talk about a few more of our sponsors here. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healan Baseball and Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_13

Lincoln steps in, reached on an error and singled, and has scored two of the four links runs here in game number two.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he's the one that gets that real low, low batting stance.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the first pitch in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, good good curve boy by Vickery.

SPEAKER_13

Want to thank everybody again for listening on Sioux Land Catholic Radio and also on Game Changer and all the Abraham Lincoln parents and family who have been able to tune in tonight. Hope you've enjoyed the broadcast. No balls, two strikes. Here's the wind up in the pitch. Outside for ball one. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, a good waste pitch on the outside corner, uh a little bit out. But you know, you're just trying to get him to chase something out there. And now you got him one and two.

SPEAKER_13

Jackson with the wind up. That pitch high for ball two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it had to come over high because he cut where he caught it. It was a definite strike.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. There you go. Got him on the outside corner looking for strike three. Out number one here in the top of the sixth inning. That'll bring Adler to the plate. He has singled and scored a run. And out unassisted. Ground ball to first base. Hickory looks in. That pitch high for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Peyton doing a good job here working that outside corner. Setting up out there.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

That pitch. I'll call it the way I did before. Outside for strike one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, both both catchers are doing a nice job recognizing that this is what he's calling. And he's and and we're gonna we're gonna take full advantage of it and sit up out there.

SPEAKER_13

Fouls that down the first baseline. One ball, two strikes. Clark is due up next. For the Crusaders in the bottom of the sixth, it'll be Knapp, Beck, and Aiden Lefavre. Here's the pitch. Hi. Two balls, two strikes. Clark due up next. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_03

You want to do? No, you didn't go.

SPEAKER_13

Brings account full. Three balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he definitely didn't go on that one.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. That pitch is high for ball four. Adler draws the walk, trots down to first base. That'll bring Clark to the plate. He has doubled and scored a run. Grounded out pitcher to first and popped out to JJ at short.

SPEAKER_03

Jackson's having a little trouble with his release point on that last batter. A lot of pitches high. He's got to get back into his rhythm. Just keep that ball low. Manufacture a ground ball here. You know, either outside curve ball, low fastball at the knees, anything low.

SPEAKER_13

Runner goes.

SPEAKER_03

There we go. Got him.

SPEAKER_13

And he's out at second base.

SPEAKER_03

Peyton's just having a great night, isn't he?

SPEAKER_13

He is. That pitch was very high, folks. Peyton had to reach up and get it, stand up and throw, and it was there. I don't know if he had a chance to get the newspaper, but he at least had a chance to drink coffee out there at second base.

SPEAKER_03

Peyton's release time tonight has just been incredible. And I've talked about it before. Pop time.

SPEAKER_13

That pitch high for ball two. Two balls, no strikes, two outs here in the top of the sixth.

SPEAKER_03

I've talked about the pop time, and Peyton's pop time on that was probably two or under. Just a great job.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. That pitch. Curves in there, fouled off. Out of play. Two balls, one strike. Walton is due up next. Here's the wind up in the pitch. That pitches outside. Three balls, one strike. Seeing a really good quality team tonight here in Abraham Lincoln. And we'll see another one on Thursday, and then we'll obviously we'll see another one again on Monday to end the regular season.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we we don't see an easy one all the way to the end here, Mike. I mean, these are we knew this was coming. This was gauntlet week. Three extremely good teams.

SPEAKER_13

That's grounded out to JJ at short. Feels it cleanly, throws over to first for out number three. That will retire the side for Council Bluffs in the top of the sixth. We're gonna head to the bottom of the sixth. We'll come back and talk to you in one minute.

SPEAKER_10

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_13

Got another pitching change for Abraham Lincoln here in the bottom of the sixth inning. It will be number five, Alex Franco will take the mound, and he will face Dylan Knapp, who was up when the third out was made in the last inning. And he'll be followed by Chase Beck and Aiden Lefaver. Alex comes in with a record of 0-0. He's pitched nine innings. Teams are batting 250 against him. He has given up eight hits, three runs, all earned, five walks, hit four batters, and struck out seven as an ERA of 2.33. So time's running out for the Crusaders here. They've got six outs left.

SPEAKER_03

I got to give a shout out to my my sister Barb. She she reminds me every time I say drilling pharmacy as a sponsor that I'm supposed to, you know, mention her because she works there, you know. So my sister Barb, shout out to you and and uh hope you're listening and enjoying the ball game.

SPEAKER_13

That first pitch misses for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, great opportunity for Dylan to get on here. Just manufacture a way to get on.

SPEAKER_13

Catcher's asking why that wasn't a strike, and it's because the umpire didn't call it one.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we got some confusion here. Yeah, the pitcher.

SPEAKER_13

One ball, no strikes. Dylan steps out as the umpire motions to both dugouts that it's one ball and no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know what's going on here. Coach Wilson's saying uh He's not saying he he offered it that. He definitely pulled that back.

SPEAKER_13

Well folks, we're not exactly sure what the count is. That one bounces in there, we know that one was a ball.

SPEAKER_03

I I think he said I think the first baseman said he that he went for that and or that he offered, and he definitely did not offer.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, his bat didn't even move.

SPEAKER_03

No. So it's one and one. It looks like it's one and one, Mike.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the wind up in the pitch. Catches the inside corner for a strike. So it looks like it's one ball, two strikes to Dylan. Here's the pitch by Franco. Fouls that pitch back. Just gets a piece of it. Count remains. One and two.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it looks to me like Franco's got that real slow curveball, and then it's got kind of a sneaky fast uh fastball on the outside corner on that last one.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. If his pitch in there for ball two, two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he really hung that thing, just kind of looped it up there. Yeah, I'd look for him to paint that corner with that fastball again. That's where he's going.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Bounces that one in there. Three balls, two strikes. Full count on Dylan Knapp. Chase Beck awaits an opportunity to step in and try to do some damage.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, this is a huge at that. We got to produce something at the bottom of the order here.

SPEAKER_13

So wind up and the pitch. There we go. That's it between short and third. That'll be a single for Dylan Knapp.

SPEAKER_03

That's a good piece of two-strike hitting by Dylan Knapp, just what the doctor ordered. Beautiful piece of hitting, Dylan.

SPEAKER_13

Leadoff man reaches. And that will bring Chase Beck to the plate. He has reached on a fielder's choice and struck out looking his two times up tonight.

SPEAKER_03

And we've seen it all night long. When we get speed on first base, these pitchers get real itchy over here, and they they'll throw back six, seven times.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, see. Here he goes. Yep, right away. Yeah. Dylan was taking two steps off, and Franco was throwing over already.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they've they've done their homework. This coach is he's he's done a good job. He he knows who can steal, who can't.

SPEAKER_13

Have to see how Franco handles. Oh and throw down to first base. Dylan heads down to second. He's going to third. Now he's headed for third. Here's the throw. Dylan is in safely.

SPEAKER_03

And that's how you produce it right there, boys. You can't teach speed.

SPEAKER_13

So they were going to throw down to first and try to get Dylan. They threw behind him, and the throw got away from the first baseman, went all the way to the fence, and Dylan's able to get all the way to third. So Crusaders have a little bit working here in the bottom of the sixth inning, trailing this one four to three with Chase Beck at the plate. Count as one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

And this is what we do, Mike. This is this is Healing baseball and Crusader baseball, especially this year. We've got speed, and when we get speed on, we can do things. And Dylan, this is a perfect example. Now we're just gonna sacrifice.

SPEAKER_13

Pitch inside for ball two. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

This is a huge bat for Chase Beck. Yeah, just a huge bat for him.

SPEAKER_13

Infield is in a little bit. That pitch is high for ball three. Three balls, no strikes. Aiden Lefavre is due up next. He would be followed by Cal Ghisi. Crusaders trying to get some runs across here in the bottom of the sixth inning. Here's the pitch. That's in there for strike one. Three balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, right now the only thing he's being able to get across for a strike's been that fastball. It's not gonna overpower you.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch by Franco.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, just missed it.

SPEAKER_13

That is hit foul out of play. Everybody will head back to where they were.

SPEAKER_03

You know, you got zero you got no outs. You got speed at third base. I mean, even with two strikes, I wouldn't be surprised to see him lay something down or you know, man try to manufacture a run that way.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch by Franco. And that hit him. Get on any way you can, John. We've said it many times.

SPEAKER_03

You know what? Doesn't matter if it's a 20-mile-an-hour EFUS ball that hits you or a 90-mile-an-hour fastball.

SPEAKER_13

Runners at first and third, Jackson Vickery is gonna step in here to bat for Aiden Lefaver.

SPEAKER_03

Here's the game within the game, Mike. You got guys on first and third, and coach knows how aggressive we've been. So now you got an itchy pitcher out there anyway. And you got a guy on first. He knows we're gonna probably try something here.

SPEAKER_13

Yep, Franco checks the runner at first, throws over.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, Chase just gets back.

SPEAKER_13

That was close, folks.

SPEAKER_03

That was close. Yeah, we don't need that. Yeah, we need we need to keep him on.

SPEAKER_13

And yeah, we need base runners. We don't need outs.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, these guys have been told to kind of throw over there right when we're going out and taking our second step. They're timing this thing.

SPEAKER_13

Franco checks. Here's the pitch, bounces in there for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Cal Ghisi is on the on in the on-deck circle.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he's he's definitely itchy. Look at him out there. He's he's nervous as all get up about that first base.

SPEAKER_13

He that pitch in there for a strike. One ball, one strike. No outs, runners at first and third. Crusaders trail this one four to three. We're in the bottom of the sixth. Trying to salvage a split of this doubleheader after losing game one, seven to one. Here's the pitch. Squares does not offer. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

I like it though. I like it. Sacrifice bunt. Now you got two and oh.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, especially if you can push it up the first baseline.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that first baseman's been holding him on, so he's out of position. Yeah, first pitcher's gonna have to field his position.

SPEAKER_13

Franco checks the runner at first, checks him again. Here's the pitch squares. That pitch. Drops in there for strike two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's that. Yeah, that thing hung there. You gotta get that thing down. Now he's gonna make contact.

SPEAKER_13

Chase goes. That ball is hit out to right field. That lands in front of the right fielder. Gets past him. One run scores. Chase Beck. He's being held up. RBI single for Jackson Vickery. That will tie the score at 4-4. And Chase Beck is at third base. Great job on with no outs.

SPEAKER_03

There we go. Great job on a hit and run.

SPEAKER_13

That was an excellent job right there. And that'll bring Calgeese to the plate. And we know the Cal's got wheels.

SPEAKER_03

You got decent wheels at third base, and Beck. Not sure about Vickery's wheels over there, but what are you?

SPEAKER_13

They're bringing a courtesy runner in, and that is going to be as we wait. That's going to be Hendrix Heaton. Hendrix headed down to first base. He'll courtesy run for Jackson. Runners at first and third. No outs for the Crusaders here. In the bottom of the six. They have tied this game four to four. Runner at third base looking to do some more damage.

SPEAKER_03

Chance for Cal to do something special tonight. Right here.

SPEAKER_13

Franco checks the runner at first. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_03

Just missed it. Got it.

SPEAKER_13

Cal pops that at left fielder's making a long run for it. Able to get under it for out number one.

SPEAKER_03

Well, that thing just kind of hung up there. That should have been the shortstop.

SPEAKER_13

That'll bring JJ Hope to the plate. JJ hit by a pitch his last time up and scored a run. And he's flown out to center field and grounded out second to first. So JJ with an opportunity to put the Crusaders ahead here.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, you got your probably one of your top two contact hitters on the team up. And they're bringing the infield in. JJ's definitely can spray that ball in the gap.

SPEAKER_13

Franco checks both runners. Here's the pitch. JJ squares. That drops in there for strike one.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's that Ephesus curved ball. I mean, you just got to sit back and you've got to get at least one of those things every at that.

SPEAKER_13

So no balls, one strike. The other thing we've got to start worrying about here is darkness.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, this is huge. This is huge. We've got to get him in. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_13

JJ bunts it beautifully down the first baseline. And Chase Beck will score from third. That is just that's textbook bunting right there by JJ Hope. RBI bunt single for JJ Hope. That'll put runners at first and second with one out. Crusaders now lead this one five to four, and we've got Caleb Lefaver in the batter's box.

SPEAKER_03

I love it, Mike. I mean, you just can't you can't relax with JJ at the plate. You don't know what he's gonna do. And just a beautiful bunt. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, it was like a drag bunt in softball. He was almost ahead of that ball by the time it hit the ground.

SPEAKER_03

And and he was hit, he was bunting for a hit the whole way. I mean, no question.

SPEAKER_13

First pitch to Caleb. He hits that hard out to right field. Right fielder able to get under it and make the catch. For out number two. Again, Caleb has hit that ball hard tonight. He has just not been able to get it to fall.

SPEAKER_03

Gee, man, trust me, he stroked that thing.

SPEAKER_13

That'll bring Tommy Carroll to the plate with two outs. Crusaders have pushed two runs across here in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a five-four lead. Be huge to get another run here if they can.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, yeah, one run is is it's it's nice, but two would be a little more comfortable going into the seventh inning.

SPEAKER_13

That pitch on the inside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike. JJ Hope at first, Hendrix Seaton at second, two outs. Franco checks the runner at second base and delivers. That ball hit right to the second baseman. He's able to field it. Toss over to short for the third out. But the Crusaders push two runs across. They now lead this one five to four. We're heading to the top of the seventh. Hurry back in 60.

SPEAKER_10

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_13

We have a new pitcher here as we head into the top of the seventh inning. Now pitching for the Crusaders is JJ Hope. Hendrix Eaton moves to second base and Chase Beck slides over to shortstop.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I like this move, Mike. We've seen JJ twice and we talked about it. He comes in normally when he comes in, especially the first three batters, he's extremely tough. So I like this move.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, we'll see if it pays off here. Oh, thank goodness I see the missing giraffe down in Texas has been found.

SPEAKER_03

Only in Texas.

SPEAKER_13

I mentioned that to my grandkids, and for the next hour, it's how did a giraffe escape? How come they can't find that giraffe? So I can tell them that it's been found and all is good. Walton will step in to lead things off for Council Bluffs here in the top of the seventh inning.

unknown

Number two, TJ Walton.

SPEAKER_03

This is a big first out, to be honest. I mean, this is number four. What, four, five, and six, Mike, I think, for them. I mean, this is this is a big out. He's a tough out.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, this is huge. Crusaders were able to push two runs across in the bottom of the six to take a five-to-four lead. Try to hang on here and salvage the split in this doubleheader.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's a huge win. It's to be a huge win if we can get this. And you and I were talking about this before the game. This is the kind of game we need. We need to pull one of these out.

SPEAKER_13

Here's first pitch by JJ. Walton squares. That pitch is way high for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, JJ just needs to get out there and just pretend he's warming up with Peyton and just throw some strikes.

SPEAKER_13

That pitch high for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Really don't want to put anybody on base and put that tying run on base with the go-ahead run at the plate. Here's a pitch by JJ. That pitch is high for ball three. Three balls, no strikes. Craig is due up next. Wind up by JJ in the pitch. At pitch is high. A four-pitch walk. We'll put Walton at first base with no outs, and that will bring Craig to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you gotta go out. Just talk to him a little bit. Yeah, I mean, and when he in his warm-ups, Mike, I mean, he was really just throwing them right in there for strikes. He just needs to do that. Just just uh try to try to just keep that batter out of your focus and just throw to me. That's what Peyton, the message to Peyton should should be. Just throw to me.

SPEAKER_13

Throw over to first, and Walton is back in time.

SPEAKER_03

And in coach, if Coach is gonna do anything here, he's he's gonna he's gonna try to bunt this guy down. There he goes.

SPEAKER_13

That pitch is high. Fifth consecutive ball for JJ to start this inning. One ball, no strikes to Craig.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I give him one or two more pitches here. And I and you gotta go out and talk to him. You just gotta calm him down.

SPEAKER_13

JJ deals to the plate. That pitch is bound bunted out in front of home plate. JJ feels it, throws to first for out number one.

SPEAKER_03

Not so sure I wouldn't have been taken there.

SPEAKER_13

You know, he's thrown five or six straight straight balls and then Yeah, as as difficult a time as he's had to get get the strikes across. So that'll put Walton down at second base. So the tying run is at second, and Becker steps in.

SPEAKER_03

There we go. Game within the game, Mike. Got uh guy on second base. You know what's what's coach uh coach gonna do over there for AL.

SPEAKER_13

That pitch fouled off for strike one, no balls one strike. Becker has walked in the first, flew to center in the second, and struck out his last time up.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it was a big pitch for JJ. Get that get ahead of him. Got him 0-1.

SPEAKER_13

Be nice to come back and get a big strike out here. Peyton needs to do everything he can to keep the ball in front of him, keep that runner at second.

SPEAKER_03

That pitch has popped up behind us out of play.

SPEAKER_13

No balls, two strikes. Garst is due up next.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we know what Garst has been doing. He's been a tough out, so this is a huge one right here.

SPEAKER_13

JJ looks in for the sign. And he comes set. He checks the runner at second. And deals to the plate. Bounces that one in there. Runner goes. Oh, and that gets away from Cal. We're gonna have a play at the plate. And it's not gonna be in time. So Walton scores from second base on the throwdown to third. They got past the third baseman. That'll tie the score at 5-5. And the count is one ball, two strikes on Becker.

SPEAKER_03

Well, true to form, uh coach. He's been aggressive, and there he was. He I'm shocked that he sent him to third.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. That is hit out to right field. Gas went back up, gets under it for out number two. And that was that looked like a bit of a delayed steal, too, John. He was looked like he took off a little bit late.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, because it took Peyton off guard a little bit.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, that'll bring Gars to the plate. He'll step in from the left side. He flew out to center field, reached on an error, and singled. So it's a brand new ball game. It's five to five here in the top of the seventh inning. First pitch fouled off. Strike one. No balls, one strike. For the Crusaders, when they come to bat, it'll be Erickson, Gaswent, and Knapp in the bottom of the seventh inning. Here's the wind up and the pitch. Just low for ball one. One ball, one strike. I'd like to see Healan come out with a win in this one and not have it called due to darkness after the seventh inning. Here you go. That pitch just low for ball two. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I agree with you, Mike. I mean, we worked worked too hard to get that lead, come back in the game, and and it'd be really nice to ink one out here.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch by JJ. That is fouled off at the plate. Two balls, two strikes. Two outs here in the top of the seventh. Abraham Lincoln has pushed one run across to tie it five to five.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Garsh is a big out. You don't want to get him on. He's been spraying the ball. He's taken it to left. He's dribbled it over to first base.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Just misses outside. Full count. Donner would be due up next. Here's the pitch. That pitch is inside for ball four. Garst draws the walk, he'll trot down to first base. So there's a runner at first with two outs, and that'll bring Donner to the plate. Been hit by a pitch twice and popped out to JJ at short.

SPEAKER_03

I look for Coach Bretzky to be really aggressive here. I mean, he's got nothing to lose. Tie ball game, they got a guy on first. I look for him to take off here and either a hit and run or a steal.

SPEAKER_13

He squares to bunt. That pitch is in there for strike one. No balls, one strike. Peyton is definitely ready to throw down to first base if that runner gets too far off.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

JJ checks the runner at first and deals to the plate. That's on the outside corner for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we gotta end this thing right here.

SPEAKER_13

Get a strikeout here, and let's go to the bottom of the seventh and finish this thing. JJ checks the runner at first. Here's the pitch. Swinging a miss. Strike three. He got him, folks. That's out number three. Abraham Lincoln pushes one across here in the top of the seventh. We are tied five to five, headed to the bottom of the seventh inning. Hurry back and let's win this one.

SPEAKER_10

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_13

We're back here at Bishop Mueller Field. It's the bottom of the seventh inning. Score tied 5-5. The Crusaders will send Peyton Erickson, Nathan Gaswint, and Dylan Knapp to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

Sounds like runs to me, Mike. Right there. Let's get a run here. Let's push something across and let's end this game.

SPEAKER_13

That's definitely what we need. As I look at the rankings in 4A, Sioux City East is still number one. Lewis Central is number eight. In 3A, Waller Catholic is number one. Harlan is third. Carlisle fourth. Healing is eighth. And MLC Floyd Valley is 13th in this week's poll. Peyton Erickson steps in. Franco still on the mound for Abraham Lincoln. Peyton fouls that off. First pitch for strike one. No balls, one strike. And it's starting to get dark here, folks, so we need to finish this here and not take a chance on having this game called as a tie.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I like the cut by Peyton. Good aggressive swing on the first pitch. Yeah, you know you're going to get something.

unknown

Boy.

SPEAKER_13

Franco airmels that one. It's one ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's just a curveball got away from him. He uh, I mean, you're gonna get that pitch at least once every at-bat. And folks, it's a it's as slow as curveball as we've seen.

SPEAKER_13

Here's a pitch by Franco.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he just missed that one.

SPEAKER_13

Pops that into foul territory over toward the healing dugout. Third baseman able to get under it for out number one. So that'll bring Nathan Gaswin to the plate. He is singled, reached on an error, and singled.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Nathan's just had a typical Nathan day. I mean, spreading the ball all over the place. He's had good at bats.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the first pitch. Swing and a miss, strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

He just missed that one. Beautiful swing by Nathan.

SPEAKER_13

He knows he did too. You can tell by his body language.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that was his pitch.

SPEAKER_13

Here's a pitch by Franco.

SPEAKER_03

Here it is.

SPEAKER_13

He turns on that one. That's down the line. That's gonna be two. That's gonna be two, folks. Nathan Gas went rumbling into second base with a double, and that puts her the winning run at second base. And that will bring up Dylan Knapp. Dylan has a chance to end this.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, now if you're if you're a coach, I mean the smart move here, and I'm not gonna speak for him, and but if I'm coaching, the smart move here would be put Dylan over to first base. And and because Dylan means nothing. And all that does is give you a gives you a you know a sack or uh excuse me, uh an out at any base.

SPEAKER_13

Yep. Dylan would be followed by Chase Beck unless he's able to end it here. Here's the pitch by Franco. That pitch bounces in there outside. Does not get far enough away for Nathan to advance. So one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Franco's a does a great job keeping the ball in front of him. He's a he's a good catcher, Mike, and we've seen some good catchers in this conference this year.

SPEAKER_13

Franco checks Nathan back at second, and here's the pitch. That one bounces in there for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Chase Beck, do up next.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I'm surprised he doesn't just put him on at first. You're down two and oh.

SPEAKER_13

I mean here's the pitch. That's in there for strike one. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, anything through the infield. Outfielders are playing in because they know anything through the infield uh scores. So they're they're playing shallow.

SPEAKER_13

Strike two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, here you know what do you do here? You you just throw a fastball by him on the outside corner. Do you come back with that curveball or do you try to sneak that thing back in again?

SPEAKER_13

Branko checks the runner at second, bounces that one in there.

SPEAKER_03

Here we go.

SPEAKER_13

Full count, three balls, two strikes. Chase back awaits an opportunity.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, this is a big pitch. And you know, and if you're their coach, you don't want to give them something too good because there's a big gap between first and second.

SPEAKER_13

Here's the pitch. Fouls that one back. Stays alive. Three balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_03

That's that fastball. Tried to go the outside corner but got it up a little bit. Good job protecting the plate by Dillon. It's been a good at-bat.

SPEAKER_13

One out here in the bottom of the seventh. Score tied five to five. Crusaders took the lead in the bottom of the sixth, and Abraham Lincoln was able to tie it in the top of the seventh. Franco checks back. Here's the pitch. And that hit him. We've got runners at first and second with one out, and that will bring Chase back to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

Oh man, this would be huge for Chase. This would be absolutely huge for him. I mean, we know what kind of fielder he has, and he's got a chance to redeem that that error in the first game, Mike, and right here and get something rolling.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, he was he was down about as far as you can get as a as a ball player in that first game, whenever he made that error in the first inning. And this would be a great way for him to end his night.

SPEAKER_03

Absolutely. Chance to win the ball game, hit something. I mean, and we've seen him when he gets hot, man, he can he strokes it.

SPEAKER_13

Franco checks the runner at second, and he pitches.

SPEAKER_03

Boy, I thought that hit him.

SPEAKER_13

Just missed him inside. One ball, no strikes. It was close. It looked like it might have got him, but high drama at Bishop Mueller Field on a Tuesday night. Check of the runner at second. He squares. And that pitch is outside. Nathan with the delayed steal. And he's under the tag. They said Nathan made it under the tag out there at third base.

SPEAKER_03

Here comes the coach. He's calling timeout. Yeah, he doesn't like this call. He is not happy. Yeah, he's not happy. And then Kevin's coming over there. He's gonna talk to him. He's gonna say he's saying, didn't tag him, coach. Went underneath the tag.

SPEAKER_13

And you know things are starting to possibly go your way whenever Nathan Gaswin's able to steal bases.

SPEAKER_03

He's got deceptive speed, I'm telling you, man. He knows how to do those delay steals. Yeah, he does them so good.

SPEAKER_13

Well, that conversation ended much like we thought it would, and much to the dismay of the Abraham Lincoln coach. So that put runners at second and third. One out here in the bottom of the seventh inning, score tied five to five. And it was a close play at third. It's hard to tell from where we're at. And you know, we they're gonna walk chase to load the bases, and that'll bring Hendrix Eaton. That'll bring Hendrix to the plate.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Hendrix got an opportunity here. I mean, that's a smart move by Coach. Load the bases. Now you've got to force out at any base, and he's gonna bring his infield in because everything's got to come home.

SPEAKER_13

Gotta have a conversation out there. Again, a reminder we will be back on the air Thursday from East High. Game time 5.30 for game one and scheduled 7.30 for game two. Pregame will be 5.15. If you're planning on going out, you're gonna want to get there early because that will bring a lot of people. It'll be a large crowd. And if you're not able to make it, tune in and we'll be happy to bring you the action.

SPEAKER_03

I'm anxious to see the new field.

SPEAKER_13

I don't know about you, but uh I saw it on Saturday, and it it looks pretty good. You know, like I told you, where we're gonna be sitting along the first baseline, yeah, they moved the stands over because they added some stands. Yeah. And we're gonna have parents right on top of us.

SPEAKER_03

I haven't seen it. No press box, I take it. Is there a press box?

SPEAKER_13

Not room in the press box for us. No room at the end.

SPEAKER_03

Boy, what what an opportunity here for the eighth grader to end this game, huh?

SPEAKER_13

Yep, here's first pitch in there for strike one.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Cal Geecey is due up next.

SPEAKER_03

Boy, I I I think you you know what, Mike. I think you lay down a suicide here. Do it, do it to a squeeze bunt. Why not?

SPEAKER_13

No balls, one strike to Hendrix Eaton.

SPEAKER_03

Why not? There he goes. There it is.

SPEAKER_13

There it is. And that scores the winning run. Suicide squeeze to end the game. Nathan Gaswin scores from third base. Great job, Johnny. Great job with the call. The eighth grader comes through with the suicide squeeze sacrifice bunt, and the Crusaders walk this one off. They win the game two, six to five. What a comeback and what a way to finish. That was a great job by everybody in game number two. And take your hats off to Council Blus Abraham Lincoln. They played hard and what a tough way to lose game number two. They won game one seven to one. Heal was able to fight their way back and get the win in game number two, and they win it six to five.

SPEAKER_03

This is exactly, Mike, what we we talked about this going into the second game, in between games, uh off the air. We said Healan really needs to put together a game where they come they have some key hits and they have a good game where they either come back from behind or win a close game against a good team. And folks, Abraham Lincoln is a good team.

SPEAKER_13

They they are a good team, and I'm I'm telling you, folks, they beat East earlier in the year, and it would it's not a fluke. They are a good team, and and they have the ability to do some damage uh when they get into the playoffs. So uh looking forward to uh a good rest of the season for Abraham Lincoln and looking to see Healing build on this come from behind wind here in game two. Great job by Hendrix Eaton putting the bunt down and scoring the run.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that for an eighth grader to be put in that situation, and and we're looking out there, and I'm thinking all he's got to do is make contact. Let's let's try it. And sure enough, there there he comes. Yeah, absolutely. Gaslin takes off. I'm not so sure Gaswin might, he he would have been close at home plate.

SPEAKER_13

It it would have been close, but uh yeah, that was uh the Richter scale was definitely feeling Nathan Gaswin coming down the third baseline on that one. Great finish for the Crusaders. They win this one six to five. Thank you everyone for listening. Hope you enjoyed it. Uh, Council Bluffs fans, hope we did a good job for you. Thank you for listening on Catholic Radio, and thank you for letting us carry it on Game Changer as well.

SPEAKER_03

Thanks again, Mike, for for working.

SPEAKER_13

Way to call that last play there, John. Um we're gonna call it a night here from Bishop Mueller. Crusaders get to split. They win the second game six to five. We will talk to you on Thursday from East. Have a great couple days, folks.
