SPEAKER_05

Still between games here out at East High, getting ready for game number two. It's gonna be tough to uh compete with game number one. The the drama uh and all that that went on.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that was fun. I mean, we got we got uh Mr. Gaswin over here coming. Yeah, I think he's given us a hundred, just you and me, just for talking up his son during game one. So yeah, great game by your son. Yeah, yeah, great game. What a what a fun game to watch for all the people out here, Mike. Uh I mean you couldn't ask for a better night. Nathan Gaswin had complete control of his pitches tonight. Chamberlain had complete control of his pitches tonight. Everybody, I mean, the inside out baseball. If you're a true baseball fan that just loves to see strategy almost like a chess game, tonight was the night to do it because both coaches had to really think and really utilize every uh pawn, so to speak, in the chess game. They'd use all their pawns to get this one through. And and East just happened to sneak that one in the seventh inning. Um fun game, number one ranked East, number eight ranked Healing. You wouldn't expect anything less.

SPEAKER_05

No, you wouldn't. And both both coaching staffs earned their paycheck tonight with uh game number one. That was impressive performance by both teams, and like you said, a lot of moving parts, uh having to think here, having to think there, and everything worked out in East's favor in that first one. So we're gonna hope that here in game number two that it will go a different way, and the Crusaders can get that win.

SPEAKER_02

Could have used that uh Ethan Erickson up to the plate in that game. What a good interview uh from Ethan in between games. What a great kid, great family.

SPEAKER_05

Um, he's a great young man. I I truly enjoyed watching him uh the last couple years and uh so much fun and very well spoken, and he wants to be a pediatrician when he uh graduates, and he's gonna go one more year at uh Iowa Central and hope to get a lot more playing time and and then see where things take him from there.

SPEAKER_02

Well, just shout out to his mom. I as we call her Mrs. Erickson at IC. She's been uh taught my two of my grandsons out there and I'm ready, I think. They have my granddaughter. So just an absolute wonderful asset to Bishop Healing schools, and I think she's been teaching in our system for 25 years. So um we wouldn't make it if we didn't have people like Ethan Erickson's mom in our system.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I mean we've great great staff at all the schools. Uh I know that uh I like to brag everybody likes to brag on their kids, and I like to brag on my two daughters. Alicia is in the uh athletic office, keeps things running there, and if you don't believe me, just ask Jay and Andy, and they'll tell you that that office doesn't run without here. And then of course Mary Kate Blander, my daughter, uh married to the JV coach Jeff Blanner, and you know, she's a counselor there and and you know knows a lot of these kids, works with them, does a great job, and they all look up to her, uh, and they appreciate everything that that uh Alicia and and Mary Kate do, and uh I know that that healing does as well.

SPEAKER_02

It takes special people. Uh my wife uh works over there in the uh admin building, and those people over there, Tommy Betts, John Flannery, uh the whole crew over there, Evet Setsman, uh Marisa, they all do such a great job. And then my wife taught in the system for seven years over at IC, back when we were first married, and and gotten to know just the wonderful people that uh that employ at Bishop Healing Catholic schools.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, it's uh it's a great environment, and you know, I talking to Jonas's dad before game one, he he could not say enough great things about the healing system, and you know, he said his mom has been teaching Bible study over at uh modern day for I think 25 or 30 years, and uh he said that whenever the incident with Noah uh during preseason happened, uh everybody in the Bible study group was aware of it, and you know, obviously praying for him, keeping him in their prayers, and uh thankfully he recovered from that extremely well. I mean, you look at him, you can't even tell anything went on. I mean he and he he's a good kid, uh great attitude, upbeat, and it's just it's great to see him out here. I mean talking to you my son-in-law Jeff, who was there when it happened, uh, there was I I didn't think there was any way that kid was gonna play this year, but that's not easy to do, Mike. No, yeah, I mean, you know, first couple games when he came in, he he kind of had a face guard or something, and and I don't know. I didn't get a chance to ask his dad if it was obstructing his vision, or he just said, I don't want to do it. Um obviously it's not a sign of weakness, but uh tough kid and great fan. That's first time first chance I've had to talk to his dad. There, you know, I think Jonas's first start, they were sitting down the front row at BC, and of course we're up there in the sweatbox and don't get a chance to talk to the fans, but uh just great guy. I I enjoyed that conversation and looking forward to more great things from Jonas over the years.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's it he's he's just been a huge asset, and and and like we've always said, you know, off the air, and then we we say it on the air. I mean, playing sports at Healand is just the icing on the cake. You know, you send your kids there uh for that great faith-based education that we get. Um, you have an opportunity to be around people that think and and act like you, and you want your kids to be challenged, and there's no better place to be challenged both spiritually and educationally than at Bishop Healand Catholic schools.

SPEAKER_05

So you're absolutely right, and um some of you know, some of you don't. I grew up down in Austin, Texas, and I did not grow up Catholic. I had some friends that were Catholic, and I was I I was jealous of of what they had, and and you know, I I had a good friend, Randy Wright, that went on to play quarterback for the Green Bay Packers for a while. Every time he'd go up to the plate, you know, he'd make a uh sign of the cross in the dirt, and I just thought, you know, that's really cool. I think that's neat. And then I met uh who became my wife, and I converted to Catholicism, and um, you know, there was no doubt. I I went to public schools, obviously didn't go to Catholic schools or private schools down in Austin, and there was no doubt whenever uh it was time to start sending our kids to school that uh they were gonna go to Catholic schools, and you know, we've never looked back. I mean, we sent I've I've got five children, four of them went to Healing, one went to Mount Michael down in Elkorn. It was a you know uh prep school for boys, and that that was a great experience for him. Very glad we did that. And just can't say enough great things about the opportunities that Healing provides uh spiritually, academically. Uh you know, their test scores are way up there over you know area schools, other schools in the state, and it's it's just a great thing. And then when you throw in you've got Catholic Radio, which is is a nice carryover and supplement to you know what Healing does. And we can't we can't thank Ann Reed and and Tim Swedeen enough for putting their faith and confidence in you and I to carry these games.

SPEAKER_02

Um it's been a blessing. It it's it's been an absolute blessing to be able to do this this summer, uh, to be able to do it with you. Um you know, to give them this opportunity, and and and we've got a few minutes, so it's just a great opportunity for us to promote Bishop Healing and to promote the things that they do. And and uh, you know, you and I can go on and on and on about the teachers that have made a difference in our children's lives, and and a lot of them that made a difference in my life going through there that you know, like Brendan Burchard, Coach Burchard, Mrs. Augustine that's uh retired after 50 years, uh just the great teachers that have given up so much to be able to teach like they want and to be able to teach faith in their class.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, absolutely, and it uh you know the strong families too. I mean, I this is my second year to be around the program, so a lot of these families I know from last year, and I know you know you know a lot of them coming into this, but uh you know you you see these parents, and I remember two years ago at state tournament when Caleb was pitching, I think it was a championship game or semifinal game, and I looked over and his mom was sitting as far away as she could from everybody. And I mean she and and dad, I would have if it was me, it would have been reversed. I would have been the one sitting way down, and you know, but she's sitting down there and she, I mean, every pitch, she's leaning forward, she's leaning back, she's trying not to bite her nails and and do all that stuff. And I went down and I said, after the game, after they won, it was easy for me to say, I said, Mom, you just relax, he had it. And she goes, It doesn't matter, it's it's hard. But uh the things that those parents have done uh last year when I did these games uh with Tony Michaels, uh the way they embraced Tony and I. I mean, Brad and Heather had us out to their house a couple times with the team when they didn't have to. And I mean, like tonight, Heather writes a note and says, What do you guys want between games? So she went and got us dinner. Uh the parents are always looking out for us. Hopefully they'll look out for us after the game because we got a lot of stuff to carry out to the car. Um I hope you didn't I hope you didn't park far away. I didn't. Uh but it it's just great. I mean, I've enjoyed it and uh just happy to be able to be a part of the Catholic school system and and just all the great stuff that goes with it. We are starting the they're doing the lineups for East here as we talk. So let's go ahead and take a two-minute break and we'll come back.

SPEAKER_05

Thank you everybody for sticking with us through the break. Uh, thank you to Ethan Erickson for joining us for an interview uh between games. We appreciate that, and we're getting ready to get started here. Uh batting order for healing. JJ Hope leads off playing shortstop. Peyton Erickson bats second at catcher. Caleb LaFaver will be DHing. Tommy Carroll batting fourth playing left field. Batting fifth playing right field, Nathan Gaswent. Batting sixth and playing center field, Dylan Knapp. Batting seventh and playing first base will be Jackson Vickery. Batting eighth and pitching Mason Moravic and batting ninth, playing third base will be Chase Beck. For East High, the pitcher this game will be Bodie Colling. He comes into this game with a record of 6-0. He's got seven starts. He's pitched 32 in the third innings. Teams are hitting 2-11 against Bodie. He's given up 26 hits, only 12 runs. Seven of those have been earned. He's walked 12, hit 2, and struck out 46. He has an ERA of 1.52. So again, another solid pitcher on the mound for East High. And you know, like we talked about before game one, they're they're solid from top to bottom at just about every position. So you've you get a win against these guys, you you've earned it.

SPEAKER_02

You've earned it. And then and I talked to Coach Miller before the game, obviously, and I asked him who their number one was, and they all laughed and they said one A and one B, and they were talking about Chamberlain and Colling. So we're seeing basically two number ones on any given night based on the opponent. They'll throw either one of them.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, so JJ Hope's gonna step in here to face Colling here in the top of the first inning, just getting started. Thank you folks for joining us. That pitch in there for strike one. One ball, no strikes. Hopefully, this second game lives up to game number one, and Crusaders can pull out a win here. Fouls that one off out of play. Counts quickly, no balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Whatever win there was, Mike, is gone because it's gotten really muggy and the flags are are are not even moving.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the wind up by Bodie and the JJ checks the swing on that. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Good job by the home plate umpire checking with the first base. I didn't think he went, but it was pretty close either way.

SPEAKER_05

And as always with the doubleheader, you've got a different man behind the plate, so everybody's got to adjust to a new strike zone and a new philosophy. So we got two balls, two strikes. I don't want to take anything away from the guy behind the plate in game number one. He did a phenomenal job. And that play to end it was a tough one. JJ six is bat out, loops that in there. Claiborne makes the catch out in right field for out number one. That'll bring Peyton Erickson to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I think the humidity has gone up about 10% since game one. That win quit.

SPEAKER_05

That first pitch to Peyton misses for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Yeah, it is definitely got warm here. Here's the pitch. That's gonna be trouble. Grounded down to third. Fielded. Throw over to first for out number two. Crusaders quickly go two up, two down. That will bring Caleb the Favor to the plate. Caleb had a great first game, great double down the third baseline.

unknown

Yeah, I hit the ball.

SPEAKER_05

Scored the only Crusader run. Yes, he's he's been hitting it well since he came back. One ball, no strikes. Definitely did not lose his uh batter's eye. Wind up in the pitch, fouled off at the plate. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, great cut right there.

SPEAKER_05

Caleb's grandma's sitting to our left here.

SPEAKER_02

Grandma Dorsey to Jackson, Nebraska.

SPEAKER_05

That pitch fouled off. That got the catcher, and he's we're gonna have the courtesy umpire walks out and takes his time, and the catcher's gonna walk this one off a little bit. One ball, two strikes to Caleb. Tommy Carroll is on deck.

SPEAKER_02

You're absolutely right about the home plate umpire last game. We had a great game. Great zone. Called a wonderful game, and and had to have been a fun game for him to call because you have two pitchers right around the zone.

SPEAKER_05

I can tell you what kind of delay we have. We talked about Caleb's grandma, and five seconds later she looks over and smiles and waves. That pitch in there, low, two balls, two strikes. Here's a wind up in a pitch. Swing and a miss. You don't see that very often, folks. Caleb Lefavor strikes out to end the inning. Crusaders go in order. One, two, three. We're gonna head to the bottom of the first. No score. We'll talk to you back here in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_12

SPEAKER_15

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_05

Heading to the bottom of the first inning here, East will send up Jepson, Claiborne, and Cook to get things started. And John pointed out between innings when I said you don't see that very often, the Caleb strikes out. That's only the fifth strikeout of the season for that young man. So he's got a good eye, he's a tough batter, and he's a tough out.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Now let's talk a little bit about Mason Moravik out here, Mike. Uh we've seen Mason come in on several occasions and just do a great job of getting us out of some jams. Gets the start tonight. He's a competitor. Uh gonna be a little bit different kind of pitcher that East saw in the first game. I mean, he doesn't have quite the fastball that Nathan has, but he what he does have, he has a lot of stuff, and he does a really good job of hitting corners inside and out.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, but the the one thing that he'll definitely need to avoid, which is is kind of an Achilles heel, but he's been able to work his way out of it. Is he can't get the first two guys on. He's he's got to keep guys off the base pass. He you can't let East get a couple guys on and then hope that you can get them out. You've you've got to you've got to take your opportunities when you can. So Jeffson's gonna step in here to get things started in the bottom of the first.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's gonna look down third. He always does. He wants to see where Chase Beck's playing him.

SPEAKER_05

There's the first pitch by Mason. That's in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good off-speed pitch on the inside corner.

SPEAKER_05

Again, if you just joined us, East walked off game number one. They won that one two to one in the bottom of the seventh. Here's a pitch. Just misses. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Now he didn't miss by much. That was felt high. Inside corner.

SPEAKER_05

Great pitching performance by Nathan Gaswin in game one, and Caleb LaFaver came in to try to extend the game and wasn't able to get it done, but valiant effort on both. That pitch swinging and miss strike two. One ball, two strikes. Mason with the wind up in the pitch. That's high. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, not a bad pitch by Mason. Little waist pitch. Trying to see if uh get Jeffson to climb up the ladder on that one. Come back with something off speed, try to get him to chase something. Mason pitch.

SPEAKER_05

Mason to step off. Redo the sign here. Mason's ready. Here's the wind up and the pitch.

SPEAKER_02

And oh boy, that didn't miss by much.

SPEAKER_05

That just with a bunch of U's before the ST. That just missed for ball three. Three balls, two strikes. I thought he was gonna ring him.

SPEAKER_02

He kind of stood up like he was gonna call it.

SPEAKER_05

I don't think I've seen either one, either one of these umpires at all this season. Swinging a miss, he got him. Strike three. Throw down to first. There's out number one. Jepson goes down swinging. That will bring up Casey Claiborne.

SPEAKER_02

Just like we talked about with uh with uh Caleb LaFaver striking out. You don't see Jephson strike out very much either, and uh good pitch by Mason Moravik. Right before the pitch, we said like to see him throw something that he chases, and sure enough, throws that curve ball low and outside and got him to chase that.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, as surprisingly, that's the 14th strikeout of the season for Jephson, so it's still a low number, still a low number. First pitch to Claiborne is a strike, no balls, one strike. Mason looks in here, starts his windup, and here's the pitch. That's hit hard out to left field.

SPEAKER_02

Just missed it.

SPEAKER_05

Tommy Carroll just missed it. Going to second. Oh, Clayborne in with the double. Tommy Carroll just missed that at the morning track.

SPEAKER_02

Boy, he did. It just he got that glove up in the air and it just missed it. Would have been a tough catch, but uh he had a good beat on it, got a good jump on it, and just over his head.

SPEAKER_05

Cook steps in here with runner at second base and one out. He'll be followed by Colling. Mason taking his time here with the long look in. Checks Claiborne at second. Here's the pitch. Bounces in there for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, real important. Just keep going after him.

SPEAKER_05

Mason comes set. He delivers to the plate. Bounces that one in there. Ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Ball gets away from Peyton all the way to the backstop. Claiborne advances to third. East has a little something going here in inning number one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, real important. He's got to get out there, refocus that pitch just a little bit in front of the plate. Tough one for Peyton to catch.

SPEAKER_05

Cook will step back in here from the left side. Mason comes set. Deals. Nice pitch. Pitch in there for a strike.

SPEAKER_02

There's that slider on the outside corner, Mike. Two balls, one strike. I mean, that's sign of a really good pitcher. I mean, he just threw two of those into the ground and comes back with the third one for a strike.

SPEAKER_05

Here's a pitch. That ball lined over. Chase Beck at second base. Nathan Gaswin feels it. Claiborne will score from third. East jumps up one to nothing here in the bottom of the first. Cook at first base with the RBI single, and that'll bring Colling to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Peyton's out here talking to Mason, trying to settle him down here a little bit, saying, okay, just gave up one. Let's come right back at this guy and work at it. Got a double play situation here with the guy on first base. Try to manufacture a ground ball somewhere in the infield here.

SPEAKER_05

Umpire goes out and says, that's enough. Let's get back to playing baseball. Again, Colling steps in with runner at first. One run, RDN. Mason checks runner at first base, deals to the plate. Starts Bodie starts to square and pulls back. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Cook getting a big lead.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch. Just misses outside. Two balls, no strikes. Definitely a different strike zone than game number one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's a nice pitch on the outside corner by Mason. Had to have been outside because it looked pretty good where he caught it.

SPEAKER_05

There's the pitch. That one's in the exact same spot for strike one. Two balls, one strike. Mason checks her runner at first. Deals the plate. Runner goes. Throw down to second.

SPEAKER_02

Got him.

SPEAKER_06

They got him.

SPEAKER_05

Thrown out at second base. Great throw. Great tag by Chase Beck. No, I'm sorry. That's Hendrix Heaton with the tag. Hendrix Heaton. Great job by Hendricks on that.

SPEAKER_02

I'll tell you what. Peyton's pop time, and we talked about it last game, his pop time has drastically improved. He's got a little thing on the side of his mask there, Mike. Every time he throws a runner out, there's a little deal on there that he keeps track of. It's on the side. His mom kind of pointed that out for me. So that the other night he got to add four notches to that little thing on it.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he filled it in substantially. After the games on Tuesday.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Colleen walked there and I got a pinch runner. Number, trying to look there for you, Mike. Number five.

SPEAKER_05

Number five is uh that is Sully Weimer again. So Turkis is gonna step in here with two outs. Runner at first base, and East has pushed one run across. They lead one to nothing.

SPEAKER_02

That's big big a bat here for Mason. Put out the fire here.

SPEAKER_05

Mason checks the runner. Here's the pitch. That just missed for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

That pitch looked good. Uh Peyton didn't have to move very much.

SPEAKER_05

I wish we had the view that Iowa baseball has behind the home plate. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that'd be nice. But I used to tell by Peyton. I mean, Peyton does a really good job of letting the umpire know. If he missed one, you can you you watch. Peyton turns his head and he'll let him know.

SPEAKER_05

Nice ball. Fielded by Vickery over at first base. Great play. Cherkis grounds out. First base unassisted.

SPEAKER_02

Great job by Jonas.

SPEAKER_05

Scores one run in the bottom of the first. We'll go to the top of the second. Crusaders trail one to nothing. We'll be back here in 60 seconds.

It's very affordable and give us a great opportunity to bring the games to everyone out there. First pitch, Tommy in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Just snuck over here, my granddaughter Molly.

SPEAKER_05

Tommy fouls that off out of play for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Pops that up out of play.

SPEAKER_02

Good job by Tommy.

SPEAKER_05

Battling here at this at bat.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely. Now Collie's just a lot like Chamberlain. He's he doesn't he's not off the plate much, Mike.

SPEAKER_05

That pitch bounces in there for ball one. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Except for that one.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Except for that one.

SPEAKER_05

Nathan Gass went on deck again. Nathan, great pitching performance in game number one. Yep. Appeal down to first as he did not go. So two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's he's not comfortable back there right now. So this umpire having a little trouble finding his zone, but I'm sure he will.

SPEAKER_05

Wind up in the pitch. Yeah, fouled off to Nathan in the on-deck circle. Fields it cleanly. Tommy steps back in, and here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_02

There we go.

SPEAKER_05

Fielded. Throw to first for out number one.

SPEAKER_02

Good piece of hitting by Tommy Curly. Battled. Make good contact. Nice hard hit to second baseman. Just missed it. Anything right or left, he's he's hitting the gap on that.

SPEAKER_05

Nathan Gaswin steps in to face Bodie Colling. First pitch to Nathan in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Good inside corner pitch by Colling.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch. Pitch fouled off. Hit the net pole. Made a nice hollow echo sound there for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good two-strike hitter and Nathan Gas one here.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch. Pitch bounces in there for ball one. One ball, two strikes. Wind up by Colling on the pitch. That ball hit hard out to center field. Catch made out there for out number two.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, you are gonna have to really, really hit that ball hard for that thing to go tonight because this humidity is just really just it just keeps the ball up there, Mike. You've got to hit the barrel and you've got to hit it hard if you're gonna get it over the outfielders' heads.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, and that was hit hard. It was just right at him. So Dylan Knapp's gonna step in here. That first pitch in there for strike, no balls, one strike. Swing and a miss by Dylan, strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Good cut by Dylan, just underneath it.

SPEAKER_05

Dylan asks for time. He steps out.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, smart move by Dylan. Pitcher's taking his time out there.

SPEAKER_05

Bowdy works quickly. Here's a pitch. Foul back. Count remains, no balls, two strikes. There we go. Fouled off at the plate. Count remains, no balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, one thing Dylan Knapp does is he does a great job with that inside out hitting Mike, and he's a great uh two-strike hitter because he he finds a way, gets himself a little closer to the plate, protects.

SPEAKER_05

Here's a pitch by Bodie. Swing and a miss, strike three. Crusaders go quietly in the top of the second inning. Three up, three down. We're gonna head to the bottom of the second. We'll be back in 60 seconds to bring you that that half inning.

SPEAKER_15

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_05

Welcome back to East. We're gonna head to the bottom of the second here. East will send up Chamberlain, McCaffrey, and Stoos to face Moravic here. East leads this one one to nothing.

SPEAKER_02

Actually, a really good first inning by Mason. He Mason did what we've seen him do all year. Gets himself in a little bit of a jam, Mike, and he always finds a way to get himself out of it. Could have been a potential big inning by East last inning, and Mason did a nice job getting out of it.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he was able to keep it to one run. Now we're gonna see what he can do with the six, seven, and eight hitters for the Black Raiders.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's real important for Mason. He's just got to keep him off balance, and he's got a really good curve ball, and he throws it at two different speeds. He throws a slow curve and then kind of a little quicker slider, and he's just got to really be able to utilize that tonight because these guys will sit on the fastball if you can't. If you can't get that in, they'll just sit on the fastball.

unknown

Chamberlain.

SPEAKER_05

Chamberlain will step in to face Moravic for the first time. Mason starts to wind up here, and here's the pitch. Bunted foul. No balls, one strike. Unofficially, I had Mason at 17 pitches in the first inning.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, the main thing for Mason is, you know, keep us in the ballgame, give us a chance. He's a, you know, we we've utilized the word many times bulldog, and we've used it for him quite a few, and that's what he is. Beautiful pitch.

SPEAKER_05

That pitch in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's that slow curveball I was just talking to you about, Mikey. He can throw it fast, he can throw it a little bit quicker, and he can throw it slow like that one.

SPEAKER_05

Wind up by Mason in the pitch. Fouled back. Count remains, no balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he came back with that little quick slider, a little bit uh more speed on it, and it breaks really low to the outside corner.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch. That's high for ball one. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I like that pitch. Not a bad pitch. Try to get it up at the numbers and see if they'll chase it.

SPEAKER_15

Oh, I already checked it.

SPEAKER_05

Chamberlain steps back in. Gets that out to JJ at short. JJ Fields, throw over to first. Great job by Vickery at first base.

SPEAKER_02

Beautiful play by JJ Hope. Having to come in, catching that ball, and throwing on the run to a speedy Chamberlain going down the line.

SPEAKER_05

McCaffrey will step in to face Mason for the first time in this game. Here's the first pitch. It's high for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Steuze is due up next. There's a pitch. That is foul down the first baseline. One ball, one strike. Again, we'll be back on Monday. Pregame 545. First pitch with Council Bluffs Lewis Central at 6 o'clock from Bishop Mueller Field. Here's a pitch.

SPEAKER_02

Nice.

SPEAKER_05

Got that in there for strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Just a great setup pitch. Mason went fastball, fastball, Mike. First two pitches. Sets him up. Comes back with that slow curve on the outside corner and got him got him looking.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch. High ball two. Two balls, two strikes. If you haven't had a chance yet to come out and see this Crusader baseball team, Monday would be a great opportunity. And as they continue to prepare for the first round playoff game next Friday. Yep, they're 26 and 3 last we saw. Nice. Swing and a miss. McCaffrey strikes out for out number two.

SPEAKER_02

There's that hanging curveball. We talked about Mason Moravic having two speeds on the curveball. He has that slow hanger and then he has that quick slider on the outside corner. Through that slow hanger, chest high, got him right at the numbers.

SPEAKER_05

That'll bring Steu to the plate. Ashcraft is due up next. Mason starts his windup, and here's a pitch. High for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Mason deals. Swing and a miss. Strike one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Mason's really got his pitches working tonight, Mike. He's got a little more velocity on that fastball than we're used to seeing.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch. High for ball two. Two balls, one strike. Ashcraft in the on-deck circle.

SPEAKER_02

He's got great command of his curveball tonight. I'd like to see him come back with that curveball for a strike here. There's a pitch. There it is. Oh, just miss.

SPEAKER_05

Just misses. Three balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good pitch, though. Good pitch. It didn't miss by much.

SPEAKER_05

Pitch inside for ball four. Steus trots down to first with the walk, and that will bring Ashcraft to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

This is a huge out because you got Jeffson waiting in the wings.

SPEAKER_05

Mason has two strikeouts so far through one and two thirds innings. Pretty good lead over there by Steuze at first base. Mason checks him. Here's the pitch. Just misses for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Matter of fact, I mean, it's not missing by much. It's coming across that plate just under his knee.

SPEAKER_05

Here's a pitch. Nice. Fouled off.

SPEAKER_02

That's a good comeback pitch. Fastball in the outside corner.

SPEAKER_05

One ball, one strike. Mason comes set up. And here's the pitch. That pitch fouled off out of play for strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Here we go again, Mike. Two setup pitches. High fast balls up in the zone. Now get him on a back breaker on that curved ball in the outside corner.

SPEAKER_05

Mason checks the runner at first. He comes to the plate. Fouled off again. One ball, two strikes, two outs, one on. East leads this one one to nothing in the bottom of the second.

SPEAKER_02

Shout out to the Chikette family. Andrea, Paul, Molly, Elijah, my grandkids. Just got out here after Molly's big softball game.

SPEAKER_05

So here's a pitch.

SPEAKER_02

Beautiful. Oh boy, you've got to ring him on that. Beautiful pitch. Beautiful pitch.

SPEAKER_05

Somehow that missed. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe a little bit high, but but boy, that's a good high school strike in my books.

SPEAKER_05

Here's a pitch. Nice play by Henri. Great play by Beck at second base. I'm sorry.

SPEAKER_02

That's Heaton.

SPEAKER_05

That's that's Heaton. I'm gonna get it right before the night's over. That's Hendrix Heaton, folks. Great. Great sliding stop out there at second base to record out number three. We'll go to the top of the third. It's one to nothing. We'll talk to you in 60.

SPEAKER_15

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_05

Back here for the top of the third inning. I'm Mike Skagg, joined by John Tritz. Crusaders will send Vickery Moravic and Beck to the plate. Crusaders without a base runner or a hit so far through two innings.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Vickery's just having a solid game out in the field tonight, Mike. Really nice play over at first base, good stretch over at first base.

SPEAKER_05

And to Hendrix family, I apologize. That's twice I've screwed that up, and I'm not going to do it again. Let's wind up in the pitch. That pitch outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Pitch high for ball two. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Colleen's got he's got a lot of velocity, doesn't he, Mike? He brings it. He brings it.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he throws hard. Here's a pitch. That's in there for strike one. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, knee high in the outside corner. He's gonna give you something to hit though, boy. You just gotta come up there. You gotta be aggressive.

SPEAKER_05

Here's pitch. Nice that ball. Oh, hit right at the first baseman. He's able to field it. Vickery goes down unassisted to the first baseman for out number one. That'll bring Moravic to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, nice job of inside out hitting by Vickery.

SPEAKER_05

Bodie Deals. Pitch high for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I've been watching him. About 80% of the time he throw that he throws that fastball, first pitch.

SPEAKER_05

Fouled off. Out of play. One ball, one strike. Chase back, do up next. Here's a pitch. That pitch outside for a ball. Two balls, one strike.

unknown

Love that.

SPEAKER_02

Nice. That's trouble, Mike. Oh, nice play by Jephson.

SPEAKER_05

Jeffson able to race out there and make the catch for out number two.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, just like JJ Hope. Jepson's got a lot of range. I mean, he had no business making that play out there, and you got two guys with those kind of wheels that playing shortstop. You're gonna get those kind of plays tonight.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, absolutely. Almost a collision out there, but they were able to avoid it. So that'll bring Chase back to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Big hit for Chase in the first game, knocking in our only run.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch by Cowling. Oh, Jeffson bobbles that off his glove. He's looking at the ground like that was the problem, and I'm not sure that it was. So Beck reaches on the air by the shortstop, and that will bring up JJ Hope.

SPEAKER_02

Time to see one of those gappers by JJ, huh? Wouldn't that be nice? Yeah, they're playing him to right field. Center fielder's moving way over. Right fielder. I mean, they're they're giving him the right field line.

SPEAKER_05

First pitch. Fouled off for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

They're giving him the right field line, they're giving him left center, Mike, and we've seen him put it in both spots. Kind of interesting. Right fielder and the center fielder playing so close together.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch. Jeffson. That's two in a row. That is two errors in a row by shortstop Jephson. That'll put runners at first and second with two outs, and that'll bring Peyton Erickson to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Good job. Uncharacteristic of uh Cal Jepsen making two errors in a row. You don't you you won't see that probably the rest of the year, Mike.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, you don't see you don't see Caleb La Favor strike out very often, and you don't see Jepson make one error, much less two very often.

SPEAKER_02

No, no. Hey, gives us a chance, a good good opportunity for Peyton Erickson do a little damage here. You got situation baseball, Mike. Here we go. Second, first and second. He's a fastball pitcher and Peyton's a fastball hitter.

SPEAKER_05

Here's first pitch. He's there for strike one. No balls, one strike. Colling checks runner at second. Here's a pitch. That pitch way outside. Ball one, one ball, one strike. Caleb of favors do up next.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, there's no question. They're trying to paint that outside corner on Peyton. Peyton just needs to take another step in. Another step in. Yeah, they're going on that outside corner with him.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch. Just missed it. Fouls that one off out of play. Brings the ball, the count to one ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'd like to see uh sket bases loaded here with Mr. Lefavre coming up to the plate. Sure be nice to have runners in scoring position.

SPEAKER_05

Long look in by Bodie. He comes set and checks the runner at second. Here's the pitch. Swinging a miss. Fooled him on that one. Erickson goes down swinging for out number three. That will end it for the Crusaders. Put two on, unable to push anyone across. We'll go to the bottom of the third. East leads this one one to nothing. We'll be back to talk to you in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_15

And now back to your Crusader sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_05

As we head into the bottom of the third inning, Crusaders trail this one one to nothing. East will send Jepson, Claiborne, and Cook to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, get out here, folks. You're seeing two gems. We saw a two-to-one baseball game in the first one on a walk-off sacrifice, whatever you want. A fielder's choice basically by East in the bottom of the seventh to win at 2-1. And right now we're seeing a gem, two to one, or excuse me, one to nothing. East has got the lead, but young uh Mason Moravic's out here just throwing a heck of a ball game going into the bottom of the third.

SPEAKER_05

Begin our schedule for next week, Monday. We will be on the air at 5 45. 6 o'clock first pitch against Lewis Central. And on Tuesday, a game that was added to the broadcast schedule. John and I will travel down to Denison for the matchup with Denison Schleswig. Pregame 6.45 and first pitch 7 o'clock.

SPEAKER_02

You know, that's my old area, Mike. Uh Fed FedEx. Oh, you're gonna know everybody down there too. But here we go.

SPEAKER_05

Here's a pitch. So should I take the afternoon off from work so you can show me I gotta stop at all the old spots.

SPEAKER_02

Beautiful curveball by Mason to strike one on that first minute.

SPEAKER_05

And then Friday will be here at East High for Well, he got that that hit hard out to Nathan Gaswin. He's there and that's a home run for Cal Jeffson. He's gonna circle the base as that makes the score two to nothing. Nathan went all the way to the wall and looked up and was unable to make the catch.

SPEAKER_02

Didn't make it over by much. About five feet.

SPEAKER_05

That makes the score two to nothing here in the bottom of the third inning. That will bring Casey Claiborne to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

He's got that ball up in the air, and and and trust me, tonight it's gonna take a lot to get the ball out.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the first pitch. High for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Cook is due up next. Claiborne doubled his first time up and scored the first East Black Greater run. Here's a pitch. That ball popped out to right field. Gas went over, settles under it for out number one. Blocked off by the healing dugout. So just gonna have to go by reaction of Easton Healing whenever there's play out in right field. Cook steps in, he singled his first time up and was thrown out at second base.

SPEAKER_02

Good job by Mason Moravic coming back, settling in. Just forgetting about the guy before Claiborne and just concentrating on Claiborne.

SPEAKER_05

That first pitch in there for a strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, curved ball in the outside corner, Mike. Just a really nice pitch by Mason Moravic.

SPEAKER_05

No balls, one strike. Here's the wind up in the pitch. That pitch high and outside for ball one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Keep that ball low and outside. There we go.

SPEAKER_05

Nice grounded down to victory at first. He feels it, steps on the bag unassisted for out number two. And that will bring up Bodie Colling, who walked his first time up.

SPEAKER_02

This is what we see with Mason. We've seen it time and time again. I mean, he gave up a nice home run from Cal Jepson, but he's focused, refocused, and has gotten himself out of a jam. He's got two outs here.

SPEAKER_05

That pitch outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Mason steps back up, wind, and the pitch. That pitch has popped out of play. Over our heads. One ball, one strike. Cowling steps back in. One ball, one strike, two outs. East is pushed to run across here in the bottom of the third. They lead two to nothing.

SPEAKER_02

Nice pitch.

SPEAKER_05

Swing and a miss. Strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Put that ball high and up on the outside corner where he couldn't catch up to it. Great job by Mason.

SPEAKER_05

Jerkis would be due up next.

SPEAKER_02

Come back with that same pitch.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch. Fouled off down the third baseline. Count remains. One ball, two strikes. Long look in by Mason here. He starts his wind up, and here's the pitch. That pitch popped up out of play. The count remains one ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Peyton's doing a really good job controlling Mason. Working on the outside corner, coming back on the inside corner. I mean, this is how you want to do it. You want to set the batter up. Mason's doing a really good job with number 10 here. Setting him up. Went high, high. Come back low on the outside corner. Now you got him thinking. He's still got a pitch to waste here, Mike. Maybe something high up about chest high.

SPEAKER_05

Everybody back here ready to go. Here's the wind up in the pitch. Throw is high. Cowling reaches on the error. That's three errors by her two shortstops.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, uncharacteristic of JJ on that throw. He made it, he cleaned it. Clean fielding and had to kind of hurry his throwing number five. And just got it up in the air. Just kind of sailed up.

SPEAKER_05

That'll bring Cherkis to the plate. He grounded out unassisted to first base. His only time up.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, great job by Mason. Got the ground ball that he needed on that one. Now she's got to come back.

SPEAKER_05

Checks the runner at first, throws over. Good move. Just gets back in time.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Mason's got a really good move over to first base.

SPEAKER_05

If you'd like to help sponsor Healing Baseball and Siouxane Catholic Radio during the playoff run, give the folks at the office a call, and they will get you taken care of. Ball bounces in there for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Nice job by Peyton blocking the ball, keeping it in front of him. Very affordable to sponsor the postseason run, and you'll also be supporting Catholic Radio. Here's the pitch. That one bounces in there. Colling able to get down to second as it bounced away from Peyton. So runner at second base with two outs. Two balls, no strikes. To Cherkis.

SPEAKER_02

Here we go. Right now they got situation baseball for East. Two outs. They're looking to score. Do some damage with two outs just like we've been able to do.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch. Another one in the dirt. That one bounces in there. Cowling, or I'm sorry, Weimer. Takes off down to third as that one bounced in there and got away from Peyton. So it's three balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Weimer's got some good wheels. He got a good jump out there, and as soon as that ball went in the dirt, he was taken off for third. Yeah, Peyton's going out, trying to settle them down here. Three and oh. Got an open base here at first. Worst case scenario. We create a force out at second base.

SPEAKER_05

Chamberlain is due up next. Yeah, this umpire has no interest in being here for a long time tonight. He virtually followed Peyton out to the pitcher's mound.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he knows what's going on. He knows what Peyton's doing. Peyton's trying to calm his pitcher down. You don't want to give him something too good that he can hit.

SPEAKER_05

Mason Deals. That pitch is in there for a strike. Three balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's that good curve ball on the inside corner. Kind of kind of throws him there a little bit.

SPEAKER_05

Mason steps off. Cherka steps out. Now we're back ready to play. Mason comes set, starts his windup. Here's the pitch. Bounce that one in there. Ball four. Output runners at first and third with two outs, and that'll bring Chamberlain to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, you don't like to see the walk, Mike, but it's not a bad thing. Creates a creates a force out at second base. So anything in the infield can go to the short, to the short bag, shortstop and go to second. Second goes shortstop, or excuse me, second can go to second. Anything over on the left side of the field you can go to first.

SPEAKER_05

Chamberlain grounded out short to first his last time up. Mason comes set, and here's the pitch. Pitch just misses for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, just missed on the outside corner. Nice fastball. Perfect height on it, knee high. Umpire and Peyton are having a little conversation, so maybe Peyton thought that might have caught the corner on the pitch.

SPEAKER_05

Runner at first goes. No throw down. That'll put runners at second and third with two outs, two balls, no strikes. To Chamberlain. McCaffrey would be due up next.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, the only bad part about that takes our force out away, Mike. Now you got guys in scoring position. Here comes the chess game right here. What are they gonna do?

SPEAKER_05

Pitch by Mason. Got him in a pickle. Got him in a rundown. Just able to get back in under the tag. They had him. Three balls, no strikes. The count to Chamberlain.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's a big no get right there. You had him, you had him dead on arrival. He was right in the middle, had a great pickle on him.

SPEAKER_05

Even as late as JJ was getting over there, it was still a very Very close play.

SPEAKER_02

Yep.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the windup and the pitch. Tie for ball four. Bases are now loaded with Black Raiders, and that will bring McCaffrey to the plate who struck out his first time up.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good timeout for Coach Taylor's gonna go out and talk to his infield here. Wasn't happy with that play on that uh hot box that we had between third and home. He's gonna probably just go calm uh Mason Moravic down here. I mean we got an air at the start of the two-out rally here, got the guy on, two back-to-back walks, had third out here between second and home base. I mean, you just got to get them all settled down. We got to come out of this inning without any damage.

SPEAKER_05

To take a 2-0 lead. Healing trying to keep it at 2-0 to come to bat in the top of the fourth. Again, much, much different performances by the Healing Crusaders than the first time these two teams met.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, absolutely. Mason's actually throwing an absolute gem right now. He's throwing a really good ball game. Just like Marie Mason Moravic does, he somehow gets himself into these jams. And let's hope hopefully, like uh the history repeat itself here and himself get himself out of a jam.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, but we've said many times I prefer he doesn't get into these jams, but I know he does, and he seems to find a way to get out of them. Let's see if he can do it again. Here's the first pitch. That one bounces in there for a ball. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's got a battle here. He's got a battle.

SPEAKER_05

No place to put McCaffrey. Bases are full of black Raiders.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we got a force out at any base.

SPEAKER_00

Come on, Mace.

SPEAKER_05

Moravic deals to the plate. Bounces that one in there. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, back-to-back curve balls by Moravic, Mike. Both a little short. He's got to find the strength, come back with the strike here.

SPEAKER_05

Moravic deals. That pitch fouled off. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, nice low pitch inside corner, right at the knees.

SPEAKER_05

Aerodic long look in. Come set. Checks the runner at second and throwback. Not quite in time.

SPEAKER_02

He's got a huge lead over there at third base.

SPEAKER_05

Mason comes set here. And the pitch. Oh. That hit hard down the third baseline. Caught the runner. Caught the runner down there. That brings it to two balls, two strikes. He tried to hop.

SPEAKER_02

He didn't hop high enough. He hung that curveball in the inside corner. Turned on it. Now sneak that one on the outside corner. Sneak it. Come with that backdoor curve ball, Mike. I'd love to see it. He's seen inside, inside, inside here. Or jam him, or jam him up by the fifth. Either one.

SPEAKER_05

Mason steps off. Yeah. Bases loaded with black Raiders. Two outs here in the bottom of the third. Each leads this one two to nothing. Dealan trying to get out of it. Here's a pitch. Throw down to first. Gets away. That'll score one run. Here comes that's gonna score two. Two run score on the ball that got away from the first baseman. That makes a score four to nothing East High. Chamberlain all the way over to third. Count on McCaffrey is full. Three balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that ball just got away from him and went to put the tag down, just got underneath the glove. Right out in the right field.

SPEAKER_05

Peyton getting set back here. McCaffrey steps out. Arabic with a long look here, folks. Steps off. Here's the pitch. Sit out to Carroll in left field. Makes the catch at the fence for out number three. East pushes three runs across in the bottom of the third. We'll go to the top of the fourth. Crusaders trail. Four to nothing. Talk to you back here in 60.

SPEAKER_15

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_05

Welcome back, everybody. We're headed to the top of the fourth. Crusaders trail this one four to nothing. They will send up. Caleb LaFavor, Tommy Carroll, and Nathan Gaswent to try to get something going here against East. That pitch low for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Nathan in there for strike one. One ball, one strike. Bodie deals. That ball grounded out to nobody there to cover first. Throw gets away. Caleb unable to advance. Collision of the first.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he beats that out either way. Baseman there.

SPEAKER_05

Base hit there for Caleb. That's the first hit of the game for the Crusaders. Puts the runner at first with no outs, and that'll bring Tommy Carroll to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, you got to rule that a hit, and I'm hoping that they do as well because granted, even with the bad throw, but there was nobody there, and he beats that out. Let's get something going here.

SPEAKER_05

Caleb takes the lead over at first. Here's the first pitch to Tommy. Inside for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we've got to be aggressive on those first two pitches. Colleen's coming straight at us with fastball well over 80% of the time, Mike, and he's putting it in there for a strike.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch. Foul back out of play. No balls, two strikes. Gas went and do up next. Colin comes set, checks the runner at first. Here's a pitch. Outside corner. Tommy Carroll goes down looking for out number one. That'll bring Nathan Gaswin to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, Collie's just raring back, throwing fastballs. We haven't seen very many curveballs from him. Every now and then he'll sneak one in, but bottom line, he's throwing about 80% 85% fastballs.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I I think he's the hardest pitcher, hardest throwing pitcher we've seen this year.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's just coming at us.

SPEAKER_05

Throw over. Caleb back in plenty of time. Dylan Knapp is on deck. Here's a pitch. That's on that outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's he's doing a good job going inside out. Now he hit the outside corner on that pitch. I look I look for him to go back to the inside on Nathan here.

SPEAKER_05

Here's pitch. Caleb goes. Swing and a miss, strike two. Caleb in safely to second base.

SPEAKER_02

Here we go. We've got some situation baseball. We got a guy in scoring position. Got good hitters. Nathan Gass went up at the plate right now. You got Dylan Knapp coming up.

SPEAKER_05

No balls, two strikes, one out. Caleb Favor led this inning off with a single. Went down to second on with a stolen base. Here's the pitch. Nice. Foul back. Good job by Nathan. Count remaining no remains. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Chance for us to get back in this ballgame, start clawing away one run at a time.

SPEAKER_05

Bodie checks Caleb at second. Here's the pitch. Outside. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

That's that rare curveball that he threw. Broke there at the last second on the outside corner. Just low.

SPEAKER_05

Checking the runner at second. Here's a pitch. Pitch fouled off out of play.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good job by Nathan.

SPEAKER_05

Count remains. One ball, two strikes. Making Collier work. Yeah, I saw a cook warming up between innings. I don't know if that was just for fun or you know, this has got to be toward the end of the season for them.

SPEAKER_02

They might be just trying to get three, four innings out of these guys. Trying to get some, you know, get them. Yeah, get a lead. I mean, this is the second game. They've got the conference championship wrapped up. This game really means nothing to East other than dragon rights over the Crusaders.

SPEAKER_05

Colin checks LeFavor at second. That pitch on the outside corner for strike three. Gaswing goes down looking. For out number two, that'll bring Dylan Knapp to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good opportunity for Dylan to come out of that slump a little bit. Knock a run in, get himself going here again.

SPEAKER_05

Here's pitch. Swing and a miss, strike one, no balls one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, just behind Allen. Just a little bit underneath.

SPEAKER_05

Jackson Vickery is on deck. Long look in by Bodie here. Here's the pitch. Fooled him on that one. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Good curve ball by Colleen on the outside corner. We don't see it very often, but very effective on that pitch.

SPEAKER_05

Colin checks the favored second. Here's the pitch. Outside corner. Three caught-looking strikeouts for the Crusaders in the top of the fourth. We're gonna head to the bottom of the fourth. Score East Four, healing nothing. We'll come back here in 60.

At Security National Bank, we put thoughtful care and attention into helping you find your place. Not just any place, but your home. Because home matters. Security National Bank. Everything matters. Member FDIC.

SPEAKER_15

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_05

Got the fan favorite sweet Caroline going there, and everybody's into it. We're headed to the bottom of the fourth. They'll send Steuze, Ashcraft, and the top of the order Jepson to the plate. Crusaders trail this from four to nothing.

SPEAKER_02

Let's go back to that last inning, Mike. And Mason deserved a better outing on that. Two outs. He had nobody on. We create an error, get a runner on base, couple walks, and then we had Weiner dead to rights there between third and home, get third out. We don't get it. So they go have an error and throw to first. They score two runs. So other than the home run, they get two, basically two unearned runs.

SPEAKER_05

Yep. Yeah, this could very easily be a two to nothing game.

SPEAKER_02

Mason has thrown a really good game. I I and I want that to be known. He has thrown an excellent ball game. He he did everything that he was supposed to do in that last inning to get himself out of that. And that just that stuff happens. That's just baseball. You know, you have an error, and sometimes so let's see how he reacts. Come back. He's got to treat this like a zero-zero ball game. He's got to come back and just keep doing the things that he was doing.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, absolutely. It's a tough lineup like we've talked about all night long, and he's done an admirable job getting through this, basically only giving up two earned runs. Here's first pitch. Bounces that one in there for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Unofficially, I have him as at 65 pitches. Mason deals to the plate. That ball hit hard out to Hendricks heating it second, bobbles it a little bit, throws over to first for out number one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, great job by Hendricks staying with it. Ball caught him on the chest, bounced down in front of him. He just stayed with it, picked it up, threw it. Hendricks has really grown up right in front of our face here, Mike. The second baseman we saw early earlier in the year, still a little raw. Looks like a seasoned veteran out there right now.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, and how about a pat on the back to me for remembering that Hendricks was out there at second base that time.

SPEAKER_02

Cliff Clavin, all of a sudden, out there.

SPEAKER_05

That pitch by Mason in there to Ashcraft for a strike. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Another beautiful pitch. No balls, two strikes. Hats off to Mason coming out, just firing bullets, staying within his game, doing what Mason does well.

SPEAKER_05

Gaswin runs it down. Got a chance.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, nice. Just in there. Beautiful play by Gaswin to second base. Just about had him.

SPEAKER_05

Ashcraft in there with the double. One out. That'll bring Jepson to the plate. He is struck out and Homer tonight in game number two.

SPEAKER_02

Just a dangerous hitter. You got to keep the ball out of the zone with Jepson. You cannot give him anything over the middle of the plate. Got to come down low on him, inside or outside.Anywhere where he cannot extend the bat.

SPEAKER_05

Here's first pitch. Just misses for ball one. One ball, no strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's good fastball in the outside corner, and I like that. That's the location you got to go after him on.

SPEAKER_05

Mason long look in here. He's ready, checks the runner at second base, and here's the pitch. That bunted out in front of the plate. Mason, no place to go. Jepson, home run last time, bunt single this time.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I said that the first time he came up to bat. First thing he does every time he comes up to bat, Mike, he looks down third baseline to see where he's playing. You just never know with him. He's got such good wheels. He can lay it down, he can hit for power. He's gonna be a great shortstop at the next level for Western Kentucky. He's just a tough out, period.

SPEAKER_05

That'll bring Claiborne to the plate with one out and runners at first and third.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, this now Claiborne's a guy you really got to keep the ball low on, Mike. Can't give him anything in his wheelhouse. Throw over to first.

SPEAKER_05

Jeffson back in time. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_02

That's up, just missed it. What do we got here, Mike?

SPEAKER_05

I don't understand what's what just happened there. He called a balk on him.

SPEAKER_02

And we're not arguing it, so I don't I don't know what the deal is. Either he my guess is he didn't come set. That's the only thing I can think of.

SPEAKER_05

Ashcraft will score from third on what apparently was a balk.

unknown

Got him! Yeah!

SPEAKER_02

Oh boy, I thought he had him. I thought he had him. It was a bang banger at third base. Jeffson got a great jump, but uh even a better throw by Peyton Erickson right on the bag.

SPEAKER_05

One ball, no strikes to count to Claiborne. Here's a pitch.

SPEAKER_02

Two balls, no strikes. Nice pitch by Mason. Just a little high.

SPEAKER_05

Mason looks in here. Jepson down at third base. East is pushed to run across here in the bottom of the fourth. They lead five to nothing. Here's the pitch. Sit out to JJ at short. Fields it. Throw over to first. Out number two. Jepson will score from third to make the score six to nothing.

SPEAKER_02

Good piece of pitching by Moravik.

SPEAKER_05

Cook will step in with two outs. Mason with the wind up and the pitch. Nice pitch. That's in there. One ball, one strike, two outs, two across for the Black Raiders here in the bottom of the fourth. They lead six to nothing. There's the pitch by Mason. That's in there for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Cowling is due up next.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I can't say enough about the job that Mason Moravic's doing. I mean, it's six-nothing right now, Mike, but this is not a six-zero ball game. Gotta find the fence, find the fence. Nope. Yeah, just a little bit out.

SPEAKER_05

Chase gives Chase, unable to reel it in over there, is out of play.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, I don't know if he didn't come set. They called the balk, but that's out number three. We're out of the inning. This is really to me, it feels like for Mason, two-nothing ball game, maybe three-nothing ball game, but he's throwing a heck of a game. Here's the pitch. Nice. That's popped up. That's Peyton's. That's Peyton's. Peyton's got it. All the way. That's how you do it, boys.

SPEAKER_05

Out number three. Two runs across for East. They lead six to nothing. We're gonna head to the top of the fifth inning. Come back and see us in 60.

SPEAKER_15

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_05

They will send Jackson Vickery, Mason Moravic, and Chase Beck to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Shout out to my cousin Annie Greer, now Annie Foto. Been married 45 plus years to Rick Foto, and they generally are down in the Phoenix area and are back for the Summer Steam grandkids. Shout out, they're out here watching Crusader Baseball. So said they wanted to come out and see uh East and Healand, both highly ranked teams, and they got to see a good one in game one on a two-to-one uh seven inning uh affair, and then seeing a good ball game here.

SPEAKER_05

Vickery steps in to face Colling. Jackson grounded out unassisted to first base, first time up. See if Healing gets some base runners and try to get a little momentum going here. Here's first pitch. Nice hit. He hits that hard between first and second. Good job of hitting by Jackson Vickery. He leads things off with the single that'll bring Moravic to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Take that ball to right field. Kept his weight back. I mean, and that's the one thing you got to do, Mike, especially with a guy like Cowling. You got to keep your weight back, and you gotta be aggressive on this first pitch. Jackson Vickery jumped on it.

SPEAKER_05

Colling steps off. Now he's back, he comes set. Here's the pitch. Mason squares didn't pull back in time. That's strike one. No balls, one strike. Yeah, let's make no bones about it.

SPEAKER_02

Colling is coming after you. He's coming after you with a fastball. You're gonna get it. And you just gotta be aggressive because he's gonna put it right around the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch. That pitch in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Chase back do up next. Reached on an error his first time up. Here's the pitch by Bodie. Another, that's four straight. Caught looking strikeouts for Bodie Cowling. That's out number one. That'll bring Chase Beck to the plate. He'll be followed by JJ Hope.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's Colling is definitely a guy. I mean, you gotta be up there and you gotta be ready to swing, Mike. And he's around the zone. He he's finding the corners.

SPEAKER_05

Here's first pitch. That's in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he puts that thing about bell tie, about every pitch. Doesn't keep the ball real low.

SPEAKER_05

Swing and a miss, strike two. No balls, two strikes to Chase Beck. Vickery led this inning off with a single. He's down at first base.

SPEAKER_02

Got JJ Hope coming up. Love to get Vickery in scoring position here.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch. That pitch high.

SPEAKER_02

One ball, two strikes. Almost air mailed that thing right over his head.

SPEAKER_05

Pitch by Colling. That pitch is high. Two balls, two strikes. You gotta have quick rest. Swing and a miss. Strike three. That is five consecutive strikeouts with a single bunched in there. That's out number two. That'll bring JJ Hope to the plate. Chase walked over in the old get smart comment. Missed it by that much.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he took a couple really nice cuts at it. Collins Collins really dialing right now.

SPEAKER_05

First pitch to JJ is ball, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's throwing hard and he's and he's right around the zone.

SPEAKER_05

First pitch. Swing and a miss. Pat slips out of JJ's hand.

SPEAKER_02

We got Miss Molly here. Molly, how'd you do in your softball game tonight? Good? Did you win? Did you get a base hit? Awesome. Molly Chikette. Kindergarten softball, Mike. Her first go-around, right?

SPEAKER_05

One ball, one strike to JJ Hope. Here's a pitch. Vickery goes. That's a beautiful jump. Vickery in there safely with stolen base.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, here we go. Now you got two and one count on JJ. Got a guy in scoring position, Mike. Got a chance to get a run here. Kind of claw into the lead.

SPEAKER_05

Two balls, one strike to JJ. Pitch, that pitch high. Three balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good eye by JJ. Collie knows he's a dangerous hitter. He's kept the ball high trying to get JJ to chase it, and he just hasn't chased it. It's got a three and one. Help to throw a good pitch for JJ to hit here.

SPEAKER_05

Crusaders retired. JJ grounds out short to first. That'll retire the side. We're going to go to the bottom of the fifth inning. Crusaders trail six to nothing. We'll be back in 60.

SPEAKER_15

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_05

Heading to the bottom of the fifth inning here. East will send up calling Cherkis and Chamberlain. They lead this one six to nothing.

SPEAKER_02

Mason Moravic's still on the mound for the Crusaders, and I know I talked about it last inning, but really Mason's been throwing a good ball game against a really good hidden team here, Mike. He's done everything he in his power to keep this a two to three nothing ball game. Just a couple miskees by the Crusaders to allow I think 300 runs there in the well between the third and fourth inning there.

SPEAKER_05

So we're gonna see if what he can do here against Cotling Cherkis and Chamberlain.

SPEAKER_02

Peyton is really we are talking about pop time, Mike. Peyton's pop time in the last two weeks. I I don't know what he's been doing, but I mean it's always been good, but he has really increased it, and his throw is so accurate lately, just been beautiful.

SPEAKER_05

First pitch.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good bunt.

SPEAKER_05

That's gonna be a tough play. Mason fields it. Oh throw overthrows first base, and Collingwall head into second on the air.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's a good job catching us sleeping a little bit. Uh we were playing deep on third base, and Colin did a good job of recognizing that and putting that down the third baseline. Mason's got to do a good job here now. He's got a battle.

SPEAKER_05

Mason looks in here. Long look in. He comes set. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss, strike one.

SPEAKER_02

Good curve ball. No balls, one strike. Yeah, caught that on the inside corner, look like Mike.

SPEAKER_05

Calling out at second base, reached on the bunt single, went to second on the overthrow to first. Mason checks the runner at second and deals to the plate. That pitch high for ball one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good job by Peyton framing that ball. I said no one does it better. Does a great job.

SPEAKER_05

RBI single by Cherkis. Goes down to second on the throw home. That will make the score seven to nothing. East high here in the bottom of the fifth inning.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, great job by Nathan Gaswin making a play out of that. We almost got him at home plate.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, that's a close play at the plate.

SPEAKER_17

And Curtis run for Cherkis at number 15. Hayden Bakos.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they're going out. And I'm trying to look to see if we've got anybody throwing in the bullpen, Mike, and I can't see it. I can't see.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we're blocked off. Yeah. Chamberlain will step in here with no outs. One run across for East High here in the bottom of the fifth inning. They lead this one seven to nothing. Here's the pitch. Low for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Nathan or Mason's just got to stay within himself here. And just keep pretending he's got a 0-0 ball game out here and just throwing his game. And I know he's giving up seven runs here, but three or four of those unearned.

SPEAKER_05

Nice pitch. That pitch in there for a strike. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Nice slider on the inside corner.

SPEAKER_05

He comes set. Here's the pitch. That bunted beautifully. No play anywhere. Chamberlain bunt single. That puts runners at first and third with no outs.

SPEAKER_06

Chamberlain brings up number one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Chamberlain's been trying to get that thing down all night, Mike. I think that's about the sixth time he's tried to lay that ball down. Finally got one.

SPEAKER_05

Finally got it.

SPEAKER_02

Perfect, perfect spot. We had no play on it.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we weren't we weren't gonna get him.

SPEAKER_02

No. Nope. Now we got a situation here. We got a force out second base. Got to play at home. I'm guessing 7-0 ball game. We're gonna play straight up. We're gonna go for the double play up the middle here and try to get a couple outs.

SPEAKER_05

First pitch in there for strike one. No balls, one strike. There's the pitch. Runner goes. Throw down not in time. That puts runners at second and third with no outs.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, great jump. They got a great jump. That wasn't on Peyton. Peyton had a good throw down to second base. They just had a really good jump off of Mason on that one. Now they got guys in scoring position here. Drops that one in there for a strike. Beautiful backdoor curve ball on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_05

One ball, two strikes. Stews is due up next. You can tell East is playing to try to end this here in the bottom of the fifth.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they're being very aggressive. They want to finish this. Well, you got some serious clouds starting to come in. If you look out there, it started to get dark, and I know we got some severe thunderstorms around 10 o'clock tonight. Thunderstorm warnings, anyway. 10, 11 o'clock.

SPEAKER_05

John Tritz, your local meteorologist.

SPEAKER_02

I know. I'm around to Mars all of a sudden.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch. Beautiful. Swinging a miss.

SPEAKER_02

I like it. Good job.

SPEAKER_05

Strikeout for out number one.

SPEAKER_02

One thing you're you're gonna get from Mason Moravic all the time. Doesn't matter what the score is, you're gonna get 100% from him. He's gonna continue to come at you. He's gonna continue to throw his curved ball, fastball, try to nip those corners. Does a really good job. Real proud of the kid actually for tonight.

SPEAKER_05

First pitch. Just misses for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Mason looks in and he deals. Good swinging a miss. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

You know, Mike, I don't know. Sometimes I tell you what, I don't know if I like sitting out here on the baseline amongst all the people or up in the press box. This is kind of nice out here. I mean, we've done this a few times. This is, I think, our third time doing this. And uh it's it's really enjoyable and it's just a different look of the game.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch by Mason.

SPEAKER_02

Nice pitch. Oh, well, I don't know where that means.

SPEAKER_05

Nice enough. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Had to have been a little bit outside because that dropped in perfect height. Peyton's not real happy.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_02

There we go.

SPEAKER_05

Swinging a miss.

SPEAKER_02

Two balls, two strikes. Beautiful pitch by Mason.

SPEAKER_00

Joe Mason. Joe Mason, one more.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch. Just misses full count to Steu. Mason with the long look in. Here's the pitch. That pitch popped up to the outfield.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I want to see this.

SPEAKER_05

If this Dylan racing in. Dylan wants to play it home.

SPEAKER_02

There it comes.

SPEAKER_05

Dylan makes the catch. Here's the throw the plate. Nope. Not in time.

SPEAKER_02

Mason's got a chance at third. Oh, just missed.

SPEAKER_05

So runner will score from third to make it eight to nothing. Two outs here in the bottom of the fifth. East leads this one eight to nothing. Ashcraft will step in. Ground it out to second and doubled his last time up.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we've got some lightning over here to the left of us, Mike, coming in. Yeah, I'm sure East wants to get this inning. They'd love to push another two across, but probably just want to get it over with.

SPEAKER_05

Swinging a miss, strike one. No balls, one strike. Mason looks in and deals. That ball hits sharply down the first baseline. That will score a run from third to make it nine to nothing. Ashcraft with the RBI single, and that'll bring Jepson to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Coach Wesselman calling a timeout, going out to talk to his young pitcher. Here comes Alex Rodriguez coming in, Mike.

SPEAKER_05

Arod's gonna come in.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, if I can get some of our sponsors in here while we're switching pitchers here. Let me uh get my glasses on here real quick. Some of our underwriters and sponsors for Bishop Heeland Baseball and Catholic Radio, Time Bank, Queen of Peace, Trinity Heights, Rooley Family Chiropractic, Stram Electric, Security National Bank, Service Master of Sioux Land, Sioux Body Shop, The Sioux City Musketeers, Sioux City Sprinkler, Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, Sneaky's Chicken, Soho Kitchen and Bar, St. Augustine Indian Mission, Staber Meats, Sunnybrook Dental, Tim and Lisa Swadin, Tri-State Dental Care, Vance Thompson Vision, SCProp LLC, Wall of Fame and Graphics Incorporated, Wilmut, Do It Best Hardware, Sioux City in Sama Su City, Nebraska, and Rims Plumbing and Heating Incorporated. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Heelin Baseball and Catholic Radio. Nice uh ovation for Mason um Mason Moravik. Mason, he really did thrill well tonight. I know it's nine to nothing, Mike, but four of those are probably unearned. He he never stopped battling. Even when he had the they had the big lead, he's up there, he's throwing strikes, he stayed within himself, throwing curveballs and fastballs, and I know it sounds like a broken record, but if you're out here and you actually saw the job he did, he really did do a good job against extremely good hitting ball club.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he did. He uh held his own, did an admirable job. Uh had some errors behind him, had some uncharacteristic plays by the defense, but uh he's not gonna be happy about his performance, but I think maybe tomorrow, the next day, if he thinks about it, it's uh he didn't pitch that badly. I'm gonna give another shout out to Grace Todd for everything she does back in the studio. She sits there and pays close attention to what's going on because when we go to break, by the time we turn the sound up, she's already got the commercials going. So great job by her. She's gonna be a junior at Bishop Healing this year, and uh just appreciate all that she does. And thank you to everyone listening, either here at the game, at home, in your car, on your phone, through the app.

SPEAKER_02

An opportunity for Alex to come in here and get some pitches. He'll more than likely be throwing Monday or Tuesday, so there we go.

SPEAKER_05

Jeffson pops that behind third base. Chase Beck makes the catch for out number three. We are gonna head to the top of the six. Let's take a one-minute break and we'll be back.

SPEAKER_03

SPEAKER_05

Back here for the top of the sixth inning. Crusaders trail this one nine to nothing. They will send Peyton Erickson, Caleb Lefaver, and Tommy Carroll to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, this is an opportunity for some of our guys to get some good cuts, get against a really good pitcher, and somebody we're probably gonna see something like Colin, either in the you know, we're gonna see other teams' best pitcher. And if we see MOC, we you and I have seen MOC, and they've got two guys that throw just like Colin does right here.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, absolutely. So Peyton's gonna step in here. He grounded out third to first and struck out his two times up.

unknown

They don't like the drive anymore.

SPEAKER_02

There we go.

SPEAKER_05

Hits that one, lines that one over the second baseman's head. Peyton Erickson leads off with the single.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good job by Peyton. That will bring the hitting.

SPEAKER_05

That will bring up Caleb Lefaver.

SPEAKER_02

You know, again there, I mean, you just you got to be aggressive on the first pitch. He's throwing it for a strike. It's a fastball. Peyton sat back on that, kept his weight back, good inside out, hitting, taking it to right field.

SPEAKER_05

Jonas and a courtesy run for Peyton down at first base.

SPEAKER_02

You know, I got a chance to talk about it in between pitches here, Mike.

SPEAKER_05

First pitch by Bodie. Here's that's grounded foul. Yeah, these guys, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

These guys are coming up swinging. I had a chance to go out and watch uh Jeff LeFavre teach uh hitting my to my grandson. I dropped my grandson off, so I stayed and and uh if you see these Lefavre boys' swings and how they swing, and and you'll understand why if you go up and actually watch it. Just a beautiful clinic by Jeff LaFavre today with these young kids.

SPEAKER_05

Pitching there inside for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Tommy Carroll is due up next. Here's the pitch by Colling.

SPEAKER_02

He's grounded out to second. Yeah, beautiful double play ball.

SPEAKER_05

Just gets Caleb at first base. Caleb grounds into a double play, two down for the Crusaders.

SPEAKER_02

Because Caleb hits the ball so hard, he hit it so hard to the second baseman, and just uh an easy turn for the Black Raiders. And Caleb has such deceiving speed down the line. He actually made a play out of that.

SPEAKER_05

That'll bring Tommy Carroll up. Another piece nice for Russell. First pitch out to Jepson. It's short. Jepson feels it, fires over. Crusaders go quickly and quietly in the top of the sixth. We're gonna go to the bottom of the sixth. Crusaders trail nine to nothing. We'll see you back here in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_15

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_05

Heading in the bottom of the sixth here at East High. Black Raiders lead this one 9-0. They will send Claiborne, Cook, and Colling to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Alex Rodriguez came in and did a nice job. Got Jeffson to pop up to third baseman to get us out of the inning. Again, really nice job by Mason Moravic. Not the score not indicative as to how well he really pitched. Crusaders just need to kind of build on this and get something positive. We had some really nice at bats, really the last inning. Hit the ball extremely hard on Colling.

SPEAKER_05

Claiborne will step in. To face Rodriguez for the first time this evening. Rodriguez starts his wind up. Here's the pitch. Puts that one in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good pitch by Alex.

SPEAKER_05

Rodriguez winds and deals. That's in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, beautiful job. Two pitches, stand within himself.

SPEAKER_05

Inside for ball one. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, really nice, get a nice one-two-three inning here, Mike. Get something positive going for us going into that seventh inning.

SPEAKER_05

Crusaders lost a thriller and a heartbreaker in game one, two to one with a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh. Yeah. And they trail this one nine to nothing here in the bottom of the sixth.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, easily uh one of the best games we've seen all year.

SPEAKER_05

Outside, ball two, two balls, two strikes. Cook and colling to follow. Pitch fouled back. Stays two and two.

SPEAKER_02

Good curve ball in the outside corner by Rodriguez.

SPEAKER_05

Claiborne steps back in. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_02

Just got underneath it.

SPEAKER_05

High out to Dillon center field. Back to the warning track. Makes the catch for out number one. One down for East here in the bottom of the sixth. Cook steps in.

SPEAKER_00

Up next for the Black Raiders. Number three.

SPEAKER_02

The Clayborne's just been underneath it all night. I mean, that's about the fourth fly ball to center field, I think, we've seen from him. Just missing it.

SPEAKER_05

Yep. So Cook will step in. Low for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Wind up by Rodriguez, here's the pitch. Floats that one in there for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Arod looks in and he starts his windup and the pitch.

SPEAKER_02

Nice pitch. Outside corner, fastball.

SPEAKER_05

That's in there for strike one. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, beautiful fastball in the outside corner by Alex Rodriguez. Good velocity.

SPEAKER_05

Arod starts his wind up and he deals. That hits sharply over second base. Cook reaches on a single. He's down at first base with one out, and that will bring Colling to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, opportunity here. Got a force out at second base. Love to see Alex manufacture a ground ball somehow. Left side of the field. They're going to second. Try to turn it.

SPEAKER_05

Rodriguez checks the runner at first. Yeah, Chase is moving in. Here's the pitch. Bounces in there. Throw down to first. Not in time. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good snap throw by Peyton Erickson down to first base.

SPEAKER_05

I think Cook will be going here in the next pitch or two. They want to get him in scoring position.

SPEAKER_02

Well, yeah, they want to end this game right here. They don't want to have to go seventh.

SPEAKER_05

There's the pitch. One ball, one strike. Rodriguez taking a long look in here. Checks the runner at first. Here's the pitch. Beautiful. That's in there for strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Beautiful curve by by Alex Rodriguez. Outside corner. Caught him looking.

SPEAKER_05

Checks the runner and deals to the plate. Swing and a miss.

SPEAKER_02

That slider on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_05

Colling strikes out for out number two. That'll bring Cerkis to the plate. Rodriguez steps off. Here's the pitch. High for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Alex's got good command of his pitches tonight. He's got the slider working.

SPEAKER_05

Rodriguez deals. Pitch inside and low for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Surprised Cook hasn't taken off second base yet.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you're you're kind of in that fine line as the unwritten rule of kind of sportsmanship a little bit, but I mean I understand it if they want to end the game.

SPEAKER_05

Cook heads into third base. Cherkis down at first. First and third, two outs. That'll bring Chamberlain to the plate.

SPEAKER_00

Chamberlain.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, I'd love to see Alex just get out of this inning. I can make him go seven here. Yeah, they're telling him not to throw down the second if he steals. I don't think I I don't know. I'd be surprised if Miller has him steal, but we'll see.

SPEAKER_05

Rodriguez looks in, checks runner at first base. Runner first goes. That pitch in there for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they didn't need no attempt at him.

SPEAKER_05

Like a bat flying around under the lights out in the outfield out there. He needs to stay out there.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Here we go. I mean our infielder's a regular position.

SPEAKER_05

Here's a pitch. That pitch fouled off out of play. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'd like nothing nothing better, Mike, than see Alex get out of this inning and make them go seven. They want to end this thing right now, but that'd be a feather in Rodriguez's hat if he can get out of this inning. That'd give him a scoreless one and a half innings.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_02

Nice pitch.

SPEAKER_05

Foul back.

SPEAKER_02

Beautiful fastball in the outside corner by Rodriguez.

SPEAKER_05

One ball, two strikes. Two outs, two on here in the bottom of the six. Crusaders trail this one nine to nothing. Rodriguez is set, and here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_02

Five ball out.

SPEAKER_05

That's popped up into short. Carroll makes the catch for out number three. That will retire the side. We're gonna go to the top of the seventh inning. Crusaders trail, nine to nothing. We'll be back with you in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_15

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_05

Back here, heading to the top of the seventh Crusaders trail this one 9-0. They will send Nathan Gaswent, Dylan Knapp, and Jackson Vickery to the plate.

SPEAKER_02

They've all seen him twice. They've seen Colin. They know they got to be aggressive on the first couple pitches because he's going to throw them strikes. And Colin wants to get out of this game. He wants to hurry.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch. Foul back. Strike one, no balls, one strike. Good aggressive cut by Gaswin. Here's the pitch. Fowled off for strike two. Two balls, or no balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_02

Another good cut by Nathan.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the pitch. Bounces in there for ball one. One ball, two strikes. Colin starts his wind up here. And here's the pitch. Swinging him at strike three.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's just power. Power versus power right there, Mike. He just reared back and threw fastball and got it just got to pass Nathan on that.

SPEAKER_05

Dylan Knapp steps in. He struck out swinging and struck out looking is two times up.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Dylan knows what's coming. He's got to be ready to hit. Yeah, that's the rare curveball that we see uh Colleen throw.

SPEAKER_05

Here's a pitch. Two of them. That pitch outside. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's back throwing back-to-back curveballs. That's the first time I've seen him do that all night.

SPEAKER_05

Vickery is due up next. Here's the pitch. That pitch high. Two and one. Pitch by Colling. Hi, three balls, one strike. Here's the pitch by Bodie.

SPEAKER_02

Just missed it.

SPEAKER_05

Dylan pops that up to the second baseman. Settles under it for out number two. Healing down to their last out. Jackson Vickery will step in.

SPEAKER_02

Nice job. Just missed it. Dylan just got underneath it. Got good barrel to the ball, but but hit the top half of that barrel and got it straight up in the air.

SPEAKER_05

Vickery steps in, had a single his last time up. That pitch in there for a strike. No balls, one strike. Here's the pitch. That pitch. High and outside for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss for strike three. Crusaders go one-two-three in the top of the seventh. That's the ball game, folks. Healing loses this one nine to nothing. After winning or losing game one, two to one in the thriller. They lost that in the uh walk-off on the bottom of the seventh.

SPEAKER_02

Saw some really good things tonight, Mike. I know this last game was nine to nothing, but let's talk about the positives. Game one, obviously, a thriller. We did uh so many just great things that I think are just a prelude to what we're gonna see in the playoffs with good pitching, good defense. The second game, Mason Moravic came out and threw a really good ball game. I mean, he really did. Colleen for East, he's the real deal. He's a true number one pitcher for East, and he threw a great game for them, but I don't want to take anything from Mason. He gave up seven runs, seven, eight runs, but a lot of those were unearned, and he stayed within himself and really battled even when they were down.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, that like you said, a lot of positives. Uh healing show, they can compete with uh the best teams in the state, so it'll be interesting to see how they'll see another one Monday night. Get ready for Lewis Central on Monday night. Uh we're gonna try to avoid the rain here, folks, so we're gonna keep this short. Uh, we will be back on the air Monday at 5.45 from Bishop Mueller Field. Pre-game at 5.45, first pitch at 6 o'clock. If you get a chance, folks, come out and support this baseball team as they get ready to start the tournament trail next Friday. Appreciate everybody that uh joined us. Thank you, Grace Todd. Thank you, and thank you, Tim. Uh thank you to the Healing parents for taking care of John and I between games with food. Uh, we look forward to talking to everybody on Monday and go Crusaders.
