We now interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to bring you this broadcast of Crusader Sport. We would like to thank the donors, benefactors, and sponsors that make this broadcast possible. We now send you straight to the action on your Catholic Radio Station, channel 88.1 FM, AFHC Punk of Sioux City, K-O-I-A-Storm Lake.

SPEAKER_08

Welcome everybody to East High here in Sioux City. I'm Mike Skaggs, joined by John Tritz. Found the one shady spot uh along the first baseline, and we're set up and ready to go for what should be uh a good doubleheader today, John.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, you really did a good job here, Mike. This is really nice over here on a hot, humid day, and we've got some breeze, and and uh I'm really looking forward to this. Been looking forward to it since the last time we played them. Two reasons they wanted to see this field. Uh they've done a really nice job actually. Morning side put this infield in, did a really nice job on uh setting this thing up. And then again, I wanted to see us come back and and battle East High School. Uh really good baseball team, number one ranked in 4A. Uh what a great test for us going into the end of the season and into the playoffs.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, this is uh definitely, like you said, a a good test for us. And you know, the last time Healing played East, it's it's a good thing. Uh for tonight's game. And like you said, East comes in number one. They uh come in with a record of 35-2. They're 25-1 in the Missouri River Activities Conference. And interestingly enough, their two losses are both walk-off losses. Abraham Lincoln walked them off earlier in the year, and then Battle walked them off on Saturday. So uh they've and they've rolled pretty much over everybody else.

SPEAKER_11

Listen, they're they're a beatable team, Mike. I mean, I'm gonna reel off a few snaps from them uh here in a second, but they're beatable, and we've got a team, and you and I know it. We know what the potential of this team is. When they're clicking, defensively, they're as good as anybody in the state. Offensively, it's just about getting some timely hits, and having Caleb La Favor back in the lineup, is gonna help us. A, it brings in that power hitter, that kid that can get RBIs, and B, it's gonna allow us to move a few guys around uh to utilize our speed. You know, a couple of them at the bottom of the lineup and a couple of them at the top of the lineup.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, absolutely. It was uh good to see that Caleb, after having a couple weeks off, you know, getting ready for the MLB combine and being out there in Arizona, it did not affect his batter side at all. I mean, he came in Tuesday night, hit the ball really, really hard, had that great double down the right field line. Everything else, though, that shortstop for NEL played him perfectly because I think every other ball he hit was in the vicinity of that shortstop, and he was able to get him out, but they were all hard-hit balls. There was nothing soft about what Caleb did on Tuesday.

SPEAKER_11

No, his his stroke was there and and didn't miss a beat.

SPEAKER_15

Um, for us to be successful tonight, though, Mike, we're gonna have to be able to paint.1. Enjoy great food like Siouxland Choice Awards Best Chicken Wings, which are cooked to perfection with just the right amount of sauce. You can enjoy delicious pizza and appetizers as well. Mary Queen of Peace, pray for us.

SPEAKER_06

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_11

Chamberlain is in the top uh five category in pitching, and he'll throw the first game.

SPEAKER_08

Uh in a career, which I think he's well over a hundred now, and that's another stat that you know John and I have lamented on uh over the last couple games. That we we probably lead the state in hitting teams, uh hitting other batters, and hopefully that is not the case tonight. But like you said, East will crowd that plate, and and that's probably why they've been hit as many times this year as they have, because they're they're right there on top of it.

SPEAKER_11

And Nathan's gotta own the inside corner, Mike. For him to be successful tonight, he has got to own that inside corner. He can't be afraid to go in on these guys.

SPEAKER_08

No, he's he's gonna have to do that, and he's he's a confident young man, and it's gonna be important for him to establish himself right away and not uh, you know, not get by, Christy and Dave here from Sneakies.

SPEAKER_04

Having friends over to watch the big game, you're gonna need some serious munchies. Just call Sneaky's Carryout at 2520522 to make it a great tailgate with delicious chicken, ribs, hot wings, fresh-made salads, and homemade dressings.

SPEAKER_19

SPEAKER_04

SPEAKER_19

Friends, football and great food from Sneaky's for the win.

SPEAKER_06

And now, back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, he would, and he's uh he and JJ are in the top 16 on the 3A Mr. Iowa baseball watch list. So, you know, we've like you talked about, we've we've got talent and we have the ability uh to compete with East and beat East. It's just gonna be a matter of of doing what we need to do uh to be successful. Tuesday we saw one of the teams in their side of the bracket. Monday we're gonna see another one. And speaking of next week, folks, add this to your list. We have added the Dennison Schleswig game on Tuesday night. That'll be a 7 o'clock first pitch, so pregame will be 6.45. Again, that was added uh yesterday. Want to let everybody know about that, and also the first round playoff game for Healen will be next Friday, July 10th at 7 p.m. It will take place at East High. East will play at 5 o'clock, and Healan will follow. So that 7 o'clock is not set in stone, but plan on that, and we'll do our best to keep everybody updated as the day goes on and the game goes on so uh we can get everybody and you can get full coverage of that first playoff game. So Tuesday, 7 o'clock at Denison, and then next Friday, 7 o'clock out here at East High. Let's go ahead and take a two.

Hello, listeners. I am Father Travis Crotty, the chaplain of Bishop Healan Catholic High School. As we prepare for this athletic competition with the Crusaders, we want to take an opportunity to offer a pregame prayer, keeping in mind the safety and the enthusiasm of all sporting events for the safety of our own students and those of our opponents. Let us pray in the name of the Father, and of the Son, of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Thank you, listeners, and go, Crusaders.

SPEAKER_06

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

Welcome back here to East High, folks. We are back. The coaches are out with the umpires, uh, going over some pregame instructions. So I'm going to go ahead and go through the lineups and the batting order here for you. For the visiting Bishop Healing Crusaders, they come in with a record of 23-12, 19-7 in the Missouri River Activities Conference. Leading off will be JJ Hope playing shortstop, batting 417. Back in his familiar second spot in the batting order is Peyton Erickson playing catcher, batting 278. Batting third and DHing is Caleb Lefaver batting 443. He is DHing for Hendrick. On the mound for the Crusaders, Nathan Gas went batting 327. Batting sixth is Dylan Knapp playing center field, batting 302. Batting seventh will be Mason Moravic playing first base. He comes in with a batting average of 182. Batting eighth, Chase Beck playing third, batting average of 224. And batting ninth for the Crusaders, Jonas Jensen playing left field, batting 263. For the East High Black Raiders, here comes that murderers row lineup, folks. Batting first, playing shortstop. Cal Jepson batting 505. Batting second, playing right field, Kasen Claiborne batting 473. Batting third, playing left field, batting 479 is Callan Cook. Batting fourth, playing second base, Bodie Colling, batting 394. Batting fifth, Logan Cherkis playing catcher, he's batting 289. Batting sixth and pitching will be Cal Chamberlain, he's batting 394. Batting seventh and playing third base will be Lincoln McCaffrey. He's batting 367. Batting eighth and playing first base will be Frankie Steuss, he's batting 338. Batting ninth and playing center field will be Quentin Ashcraft, he's batting 286. You know, on most teams, 289 and 286 are really good batting averages, but on this, you're you're way behind your your teammates. I mean, it is it's solid from top to bottom.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, Coach Miller, uh, when they played West the other night, he said his number eight and number nine, actually, excuse me, number seven and number eight hit back-to-back jacks. And he said, you know, in order for us to have a serious chance to win it all, he said the bottom of his order had a huge and you know the way it ended.

SPEAKER_08

I mean, I just feel like the Facebook page put it out there, some carriage put it out there. I probably watched that YouTube video, I don't know, fifteen or twenty times. No, I didn't it didn't show that, it showed everything going out there. Obvious, but I'm not sure that th those two umpires would have called that that night.

SPEAKER_11

No, no, no. No, it uh looks like we're gonna Oh, they're they're doing their lineup here now, Mike, and I think they're I'm assuming they're gonna do the national anthem tonight, unless they do it in between the second game.

SPEAKER_08

But it looks like they are. Everybody's taking their hats off. So let's go ahead and take a two-minute break for the national anthem, and we will be back.

SPEAKER_06

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

Welcome back, folks. We're out here at the newly renovated East High Baseball Field. Pitcher is just getting out there to finish his pregame warm ups. The pitcher for Sioux City East tonight is Cal Chamberlain. He started seven games. He has a record of the Metro.

SPEAKER_16

Change your life.

SPEAKER_06

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic Radio Station.

SPEAKER_08

JJ Hope steps in to lead things off for the Crusaders. I'm getting a couple messages that we keep cutting in and out. Everything shows connected, so we're going to do the best we can to bring you the best broadcast we can. Here's the first pitch. That pitch high and outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

unknown

Good eye.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the windup in the pitch. That pitch is inside for ball two. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Peyton Erickson awaiting his turn. Good eye by JJ. I mean, he hasn't missed by much, but uh Chamberlain looks like he's trying to go on the inside corner.

SPEAKER_08

JJ grounds that down to third base. Feels it cleanly. Throw over to first for out number one. I like that. Good swing. Getting ready for Peyton here. He steps in. Chamberlain starts his wind up, and here's the pitch. That's in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, Chamberlain's Chamberlain's gonna keep that ball knee high. And the only time he'll go up a little bit is when he's wasting the pitch, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

Here's a wind up in the pitch. That pitch outside.

SPEAKER_11

That was the first time we've seen his curved ball. Tried to come on the outside corner with it.

SPEAKER_08

One ball, one strike. Here's a pitch. On the outside corner, strike two. One ball, two strikes. We're right outside the healing dugout here down the first baseline. Got a great view. Got some great parents behind us and on both sides of us. Outside, ball two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, Chuck and Sue Hogan. Gotta give them a shout-out sitting right behind us. Terrific Healing supporters. And grandparents of Dylan now. Just one of those pitches tough to lay off.

SPEAKER_08

Chamberlain looks in. Here's the first pitch. Caleb grounds that out to Colling at second base. Over to first for the out. That'll retire the Crusaders in order in the top of the first. We're gonna go to bottom of the first. No score. We'll be back in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_06

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

Heading into the bottom of the first inning here, Crusaders went quietly in the first inning. Three up, three down. East will send Cal Jepson, Kasen Claiborne, and Callan Cook to the plate here in the bottom of the first.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, we just gotta be patient with Chamberlain. We had two guys made decent contact. He's gonna give us pitches to hit. He throws a pretty good fastball, Mike, and our guys just be a little more patient. But you know what? I wouldn't be afraid to swing at that first pitch because he's gonna give you a strike. He's gonna throw that thing somewhere around the zone.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, absolutely. And as I sit here, this is almost the same spot that I sat last year with Tony. And I remember the first time around we played him. I think he scored five runs in the first inning, and the Crusaders are able to battle back and win that game. So I prefer not to get down five to this team.

SPEAKER_11

Outside on the outside corner, something away from him because he tagged that first pitch last time we saw him for a triple out to the left center field.

SPEAKER_08

So Jepson steps in from the left side. You'll hear stepping in from the left side a lot for me tonight with his east lineup. Here's the first pitch.

SPEAKER_11

I like it.

SPEAKER_08

That pitch outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, nice, nice curveball. Tried to come on the outside corner with him, Mike. I like that pitch.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan with the wind up and the pitch.

SPEAKER_11

Oh, he called it.

SPEAKER_08

He said he went around on that one. One ball, one strike. Yeah, Nathan, Nathan just needs to play within himself. Here's the pitch. Let's hit out to center field. Dylan Knapp under it. Makes a catch for out number one. So that's a good start, much different than the last time we played him for Healing. And that will bring up Casey Claiborne, who did not play the the in the Here's the first pitch. Just misses for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_11

That's a good pitch by Nathan. Curveball in the outside corner. Just a little bit low.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch by Nathan. That's in there for strike one.

SPEAKER_11

One ball, one strike. Nobody does that better than Peyton Erickson right there, Mike. That frame job is unbelievable.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch by Nathan. In there for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Nathan looks in, starts his windup, and here's the pitch. That's grounded out JJ Hope at short. He feels it. Throws to first for out number two. Six three put out there. That's two down for the Black Raiders, and that'll bring Callan Cook to the plate. Up next to the Black Raiders, number three. Callan Cook.

SPEAKER_11

He's just so smooth, Mike. He's just so smooth. I can't. He's just fun to watch.

SPEAKER_08

Sorry, folks, I missed it when Claiborne was up. He stepped in from the right side. Now Cook is stepping in from the left side. So that's two of the first three are left-handed batters. Here's a pitch by Nathan. Just outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Here's the wind up in the pitch. That bounces in there for ball two. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

I like it. Keep that curved ball low. Make him chase it. I like it. It's a good spot for that.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the wind up in the pitch. And that hit him. Hit Cook on the foot, so he'll try it down to first base. First base run of the game for either team.

SPEAKER_11

In the z or you know, outside of the zone on the inside corner. They will not move. So and they lead the state, and and a couple of their guys, or one of them broke the national record.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. Squares. Does not offer. That's ball one.

SPEAKER_11

This is where we need to be tough. We got two outs. We can't let anything start to generate. Gotta force out a second base here.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan checks the runner at second. Here's the pitch. Fouled off. One ball, one strike. Nathan checks the runner at first base, throws over. Back just in time. Not bad. I don't mind that. One ball, two strikes, two outs. Runner at first base. Cook reached on a hit by pitch, brings us to 55 on the season. Nathan deals. That brings the count to two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, that didn't miss by much. We're over here on the first base side, but boy, Peyton didn't even move his glove. That thing was right where Peyton wanted it.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan checks the runner and deals to the plate. Another pitch that just missed. That brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes on Colling.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, that Nathan's a little distraught. I don't blame him. He's going inside outside on these guys, and Peyton's not moving his glove.

SPEAKER_08

On the year, East has had 338.

SPEAKER_11

This is a huge out. I know it's in the first inning, but just a huge out to set the tone for the rest of the game.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan checks a runner. Here's a pitch. Runner goes. That ball hit out to Dillon in center field. He's back. He's under it for out number three. East gets a runner on by virtue of a hit by pitch. He's stranded. We've played one. We're going to go to the top of the second. No score. Catch you back here in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_06

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

Heading to the top of the second inning, the Crusaders will send Tommy Carroll, Nathan Gaswin, and Dylan Knapp to the plate to face Chamberlain.

SPEAKER_11

He's been taught well, but he's going to keep the ball around the zone, so you've got to be ready to swing.

SPEAKER_08

Carroll steps in here. Here's first pitch. And that's in there for strike one. No ball is one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, curveball in the outside corner.

SPEAKER_08

It's wind up by Chamberlain. That fouled off toward the heel and dugout. Count remains, no balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, it's a good job fighting that off. Looks to me like when when uh Cal changes that grip in his glove, he's going fastball, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_11

Outside. If you watch his glove, every time he changes the grip, when he's standing up, he's going fastball.

SPEAKER_08

One ball, two strikes. Here's the pitch. Tommy Carroll swings. Goes down swinging for out number one. That will bring Nathan Gaswin to the plate.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, this Nathan's been on a tear as of late. As good a two-strike hitter as we we know, we've talked about it. The thing about Nathan, he's he's the funniest guy to watch at the plate because he could look like he's going for the moon, and then the next thing you know, he's taking that ball down the right field line.

SPEAKER_08

First pitch to Nathan outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Two put outs out there.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, Chamberlain does a really good job keeping that ball low in the zone.

SPEAKER_08

Here's a pitch. Dylan fouls that off out of play down the first baseline. That'll bring the count to no balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, that's a good cut by Dylan Knapp. Outside corner fastball. Just missed it.

SPEAKER_08

And the pitch to Dylan. That pitch high for a ball. One ball, two strikes. Chamberlain with the long look here. Doesn't like the first two signs. Takes a third one. Here's the pitch. Dylan fouls that off toward the third base dugout.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, let's start this thing with two, Mike. We were just talking before the game how many runs we've scored with two outs. So it's a great chance to get it started here.

SPEAKER_08

Got him looking for strike three. Crusaders go three up, three down for the second consecutive inning. We will go to the bottom of the second inning. Crusaders tied with East currently. 0-0. We'll be back in one minute.

SPEAKER_07

SPEAKER_06

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_11

Huh? Nothing. Noah's gonna be a good one himself.

SPEAKER_08

He's like his brother. Unofficially, I had Nathan with 16 pitches in that first inning, so pretty effective. East was able to get one runner on by virtue of a hit by pitch, but uh no damage done by the uh East High Black Raiders. So Turkis will step in from the left side to get it started here in the bottom of the second. Here's the pitch. That pitch lined out to right field. Tommy Carroll over in front of it. So that's first hit for either team. So Cherkis on with the single, and that'll bring Cal Chamberlain to the plate.

SPEAKER_11

Now East High is very aggressive on the base pass or on the base pass, Mike, and would look for them to probably either do a steal or a hit and run here on the first couple pitches.

SPEAKER_08

So got Sully Weimer. Courtesy running for Cherkis. Chamberlain steps in from the left side.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, Nathan doesn't need to change up much.

SPEAKER_08

First pitch to Chamberlain. He squares. Apparently.

SPEAKER_11

No, that's gotta be a that's gotta be a strike. Gotta check that.

SPEAKER_08

Apparently he didn't offer, according to the umpire, so one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_11

You gotta Yeah, you gotta check that.

SPEAKER_08

They did. The umpires, the umpires behind us didn't agree.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Understandably.

SPEAKER_11

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan checks, squares again. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Just kind of went. Set that backspin on it.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan comes set, checks the runner at first base. Runner goes.

SPEAKER_11

Peyton Erickson ball right in front of the plate, picks it up, does a great job getting rid of his helmet, throwing that thing over to first.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, great job there. Weimer able to go down to second base on that sacrifice. So McCaffrey steps in from the right side. Nathan taking a long look in here. Comes set. That pitch in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, good first pitch. Curveball in the outside corner, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

East with the runner in scoring position by virtue of the sacrifice bunt. Nathan deals to the plate. That pitch in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes. One out here in the bottom of the second inning. Nathan very deliberate here. Long look. Here's the pitch. Runner at second goes. Swing and a miss. Throw down. Just in there. Able to slide under the tag.

SPEAKER_11

He had an unbelievable jump. Great throw by Peyton, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, McCaffrey did go down. Yeah, that was that was the jump that got him there because that was a perfect throw by Peyton. Here's first pitch. Swing and a miss. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, big out here.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan looks in. Here's a pitch. Beautiful. That pitch in there at the knees for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, he's just got to keep it right there, Mike. Low, right at the knees. He either got to come on that inside corner with that pitch or try to sneak it on the outside low.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan with the pitch. We'll strand a runner at third base. So again, get a runner on, unable to push him across. We're going to go to the top of the third inning, folks. It's zero to zero here out at East. We'll be back in one minute.

SPEAKER_06

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

We're back. We're heading to the top of the third inning. Crusaders East Tide, Tide 0-0. Healing will send Mason Moravik, Chase Beck, and Jonas Jensen to the plate here to get things going.

SPEAKER_11

Chance for a few of our sponsors here, Mike, Bargain Center, Barkley Asphalt. Bishop Healan Baseball and Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_08

Chamberlain looks in, deals first pitch. That's in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, Mike, we gotta come up and be aggressive with Chamberlain. He's right around the zone, knee high.

SPEAKER_08

Here's pitch. Mason gets that down the third baseline. Great job there by Mason Moravik. He's rounding first. He's halfway to second. Decides it's best to go back to first. So there's the first hit of the game for the Crusaders. Moravic on first base with no bounce. That'll bring Chase back to the plate.

SPEAKER_11

Alright, when I say we gotta be aggressive, up comes Mason and he good inside out hitting. Hands coming through, barrel following it right down the left field line.

SPEAKER_08

What are the lottery numbers for the weekend, John? You've been on fire here the last couple of games. I don't know. Chamberlain checks Moravik at first, deals to the plate. That pitch outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Appreciate you guys listening and everything you do for Catholic Radio and for John and I. That pitch inside the corner, one ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Gotta protect here now. You're down one and two.

SPEAKER_08

Chamberlain checks the runner. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. Chase Beck goes down swinging for out number one. That'll bring Jonas Jensen to the plate. Had a chance to visit with Jonas' dad before the game, and he's very happy that Jonas made the move from South Sioux over to Healing. And we're happy to have Jonas here too. He's a great kid, and it's good to see him out there after his uh early season scare. He his dad told me that uh his brother kind of went through the same thing at one point, squared the bunt and the ball popped up and hit him in the face.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, that's that's crazy to have something like that happen to both your sons. That's that's crazy. He's got his camera up here getting him all around the zone, does not get behind on a batter very often.

SPEAKER_08

Chamberlain checks the runner, deals to the plate. Fouled fouled off, held on to by the catcher for out number two. That'll bring JJ Hope to the plate.

SPEAKER_11

Wind's blowing in out at East High School. A rarity out here. Usually this wind is just hollering, going out, but it's actually the win what wind we have is coming in. Just a hard hit.

SPEAKER_08

He's got through. That ball. Just a number that was able to get past the third baseman.

SPEAKER_11

That took a weird bounce, Mike. I gotta give him a hit on that. It's a weird bounce. I know it was hit right to him hard. I want to see what they're gonna do up there. I they haven't marked it yet, but in our book, I think you gotta just gotta take his time. Just took his shin guards off here and rushed up to the plate. Get a deep breath in. You got you got two guys out there.

SPEAKER_08

First pitch is high for ball one.

SPEAKER_11

You got a smart runner out there at second with decent speed. You got got wheels at first base. Anything. There we go.

SPEAKER_08

That's it out to the second baseman. He fields it. Throws over to first for out number three. We are gonna take a break and reset our equipment, and we'll be back as quick as we can, folks. No score after two and a two and a half innings.

SPEAKER_06

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

We're back here at East High. We're heading into the bottom of the third inning. Score is tied 0-0. East will send number nine hitter Quentin Ashcrab to the plate, and then back to the top of the order, Cal Jepson and Casen Claiborne.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, bear with us, folks. If if you if our uh sound comes in and out over the radio, we're working on it. Uh we've got somebody helping us here, so we're gonna try to call the game best we can. And if it breaks up here and there, uh just let us know and uh we'll try to fix it in between the innings.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan ready to deal. Here's the first pitch.

SPEAKER_11

Nice pitch.

SPEAKER_08

That's in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, Nathan's got great control of that uh curve ball on the inside corner, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, he's really really feeling comfortable out there. This best start in a while. That pitch just high for ball one. One ball, one strike. Again, Healens heading into the playoffs starting next week. If you're interested in becoming a postseason sponsor, please give the folks at the radio station a call, and they will get you set up to help these Crusaders get over to Cedar Rapids. Wind up in the pitch by Nathan. That pitch fouled off over the East dugout. Two balls, two strikes. Again, the top of the order is due up after Ashcraft. It'll be Jepson followed by Claiborne.

SPEAKER_11

You gotta keep the ball low here, Mike, and I come back on that curveball on the inside corner. It looks like Peyton looks like that's where he's going, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

Here's a pitch. That pitch grounded over the first baseman. Off Mara He just I maybe too took his eye off the ball at the last second, and uh at least he was able to keep it in front of him and keep Ashcraft uh to his uh first base. Jepsen flew out to center field his first time up. Steps in here from the left side. Here's a pitch. That pitch is in there for a strike, no balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Dangerous hitter, you know. I'm sure he's looking down third base. He can lay one down at any time, and he hits with power, so you got to really be careful how you pitch Jepsen.

SPEAKER_08

That pitch hit foul down the first baseline.

SPEAKER_11

No balls, two strikes. That's not a bad location for him, Mike. That low inside pitch. Uh all that all that is is a hard hit strike. You just gotta come back. Maybe he sneak that ball down on the outside corner. Low. He's gonna be looking for that same pitch.

SPEAKER_08

Well, Jepsen keeps stepping out, and I think that's uh causing a little angst on both sides. So hopefully we've got that straightened out here. He's gonna step back in with a count of no balls, two strikes. Ashcraft at first base. Nathan checks the runner at first base. He's got the sign. And here's the pitch. That pitch is popped up into the infield. Nathan feels it off the mound. Goes back, got the double play at first base. Nathan to throw over to Nathan Moravic for the double play.

Basis loaded here for the Black Raiders. Chamberlain draws the walk.

SPEAKER_11

I mean, this is an opportunity for Chamberlain to help his cause and a hot and a better opportunity for Nathan. There we go.

SPEAKER_08

First pitch to Chamberlain in there, first strike. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Good pitch on the outside corner, fastball.

SPEAKER_08

Sorry, we were off the air shortly, folks. Hopefully we can stay on. Technology's a beautiful thing when it works. Here's a pitch by Nathan. Good pitch. That pitch fouled off. No balls, two strikes. East leads this one one to nothing. They've got the bases loaded with two outs.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah. Nathan's up 0-2 on Chamberlain. You can't give him something in his wheelhouse. You got to really nip the corners here, Mike. Something lowing in, something lowing out. Anything out of his reach.

SPEAKER_08

Here's pitch. Let's hit out to Dillon Centerfield. He's headed back. He's going to make the catch for out number three. There we go. East able to push one run across here in the bottom of the third to take a one-to-nothing lead. We will be back in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_06

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

Back here at East High, heading to the top of the fourth inning. Crusaders will send Caleb LaFaver. Tommy Carroll and Nathan Gass went to the plate. They trail one to nothing as we head into the top of the fourth.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, everybody's seen Chamberlain one time through, Mike. You know he's going to be around the zone, so you got to come up aggressive.

SPEAKER_08

North high after last year. And Healing does have two hits against him, so I mean they're they put the bat on the ball and done a good job.

SPEAKER_11

Absolutely. I mean, we're just missing.

SPEAKER_08

LaFaver steps in here. He grounded out second to first the first time up. Shout out to Kathy LeFavre off to my left here. Here's a pitch.

SPEAKER_11

That was a curved ball that just slipped off his fingers, I think.

SPEAKER_08

That was a welcome back to Sioux City, Caleb.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Chamberlain ready. He's ready to deal. Here's the pitch. That pitch way outside for ball two. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, Chamberlain, he's he's pitching Caleb smart. He knows that Caleb could tie this game in one swing.

SPEAKER_08

That ball is roped out to left field.

SPEAKER_11

Taking the fist through there, Barrel following it and taking it to right field. Okay, let's get a nice lead out there at second base. There we go.

SPEAKER_08

Tommy Carroll hit by the pitch. Crusaders, first two men on. Yeah, we don't we don't need to tell people. Folks, you you know when you when you call about your computer and the first thing they ask you, is it plugged in? We were plugged in, but I've got to use a power strip out here, and the power strip was not turned on. So uh now you're stuck listening to us for the entire rest of the evening without any breaks. I'll blame it on John. I think he bumped it off.

SPEAKER_11

I'll take it.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan steps in here with the chance to help his cause. Here's first pitch. And Nathan hit by a pitch. Crusaders have loaded the bases with no outs. And that will bring Dylan Knapp to the plate.

SPEAKER_11

For those of you that just caught up with us, just to kind of go over this inning because uh we've been in and out on the broadcast. Caleb LeFaver, great job on his first at bat. Took the ball down the left field line on an inside out hitting. Just a beautiful piece piece of hitting by Caleb LeFaver. He gets a double. We got a hit by pitch to Tommy Carroll, put us at first and second, and now a hit by pitch uh to Dill to Nathan Gaswin, putting us at bases loaded with Dylan Knapp up. Huge opportunity for the Crusaders. Coach Miller's out there talking to his folks, getting them all pumped up here, saying, All right, let's go here. I'm sure having a little conversation with this pitcher here. Just throw strikes.

SPEAKER_08

Well, John, if we were in the Boy Scouts, we'd pick up a technology badge after today.

SPEAKER_11

Well, in in yours in our defense, this you can't see if this light's on or off, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

So all right, bases loaded here. No outs for the Crusaders. They trail this one one to nothing. They've got a chance to tie this and possibly take a lead. Dylan Knapp steps in. Here's a pitch. That first pitch in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

unknown

Let's go, Dylan.

SPEAKER_08

Chamberlain's got no place to put anybody, so let's see what we can do with this here. He starts his wind up, and here's the pitch. That pitch in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

You gotta come up aggressive. You gotta come up aggressive. It's a big opportunity for the Crusaders to put some some runs across.

SPEAKER_08

Chamberlain with the long look. He deals. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike three. Dylan struck out looking the first time, struck out swinging the second time. That's out number one. Base is still loaded for the Crusaders here with one out in the top of the fourth inning.

SPEAKER_11

Now Mason got our first hit last time down the third baseline.

SPEAKER_08

Now would be a good time for Mason to get hit number two.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, you've got to produce a run here. You got to produce a run.

SPEAKER_08

Steps in from the left side. Here's a pitch. Pitch right across at the knees for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

That's a good location. That's a tough pitch. Borderline right at the knees, maybe a little low, but that's a tough one.

SPEAKER_08

Here's a pitch by Chamberlain. Outside, ball one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Shout out to my good friend Tim Huber. He's listening to the ball game. Timmy, if we're coming through loud and clear now, give me a shout-out, will you please? One and one on Mason.

SPEAKER_08

Here's a pitch. Right down the middle for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Chase Beck, do up next.

unknown

I think so.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, anything on the ground, anything in the air is gonna score. They're playing regulation. They're gonna give up this run at third base here.

SPEAKER_08

Chamberlain with the pitch. Moravic strikes out looking for out number two. That'll bring Chase Beck to the plate. And you can't you cannot squander opportunities like you have right here. And like we talked a little bit earlier, Healand has scored 58 runs this season with two outs, so they have the ability to do it, and now it'd be a good time to get number 59 and 60.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, great chance for Chase Beck to atone for that ball down the third baseline.

SPEAKER_08

Chamberlain with the wind up in the pitch. Swing and a miss for strike one. Good cut there by Chase. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

I like that. Chase being aggressive because you're gonna get that first pitch, Mike. He does not waste very many pitches. He's around the zone constantly. Caleb is way off third lane.

SPEAKER_08

Long look, here's the pitch. That pitch in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Now you gotta protect your down 0-2.

SPEAKER_08

Here we go. Gets through. LaFavor scores from third. Healing is tied this game at one. RBI single for Chase Beck. That brings LeFavor in. We are tied at one-to-one here in the top of the fourth inning. That will bring Jonas Jensen to the plate. Base is still loaded. Base is still loaded with two outs.

SPEAKER_11

Great inside out hitting by Chase Beck, and that's just what he needed, Mike. He needed that hit in the worst way and got it at a huge, at a huge chance and a huge opportunity.

SPEAKER_08

59th run scored with two outs for the Crusaders in this uh during this season. Let's get 60 and 61 here if we can, folks. Jonas steps in. He's he struck out his first time up, grounds that out to Colling at second base. He's over, he feels it for out number three. The Crusaders are able to tie this game up in the top of the fourth. We're headed to the bottom of the fourth. Score tied one-to-one. We'll see you back here in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_16

SPEAKER_06

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic Radio station.

SPEAKER_08

Back here in a tie game. One-to-one here as we head to the bottom of the fourth.

SPEAKER_11

Thank you so much. Catholic Charities, Central Bank of Sioux City and Storm Lake, Christy Smith Funeral Homes, CNOS Dr. Ryan Meese, Council Oak Supply Company LLC, and Culligan. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Feeling Baseball and Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_08

All right, McCaffrey's gonna step in. He struck out his first time up. That's in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, good curve ball in the outside corner by Nathan.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan working quickly with no runners on base. Here's second pitch. That's in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, Nathan's got great command of that pitch right now, Mike. All that is is he changes the speed up a little bit, but just a sinker and a slider on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. Nice pitch high for ball one. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

That's a good waist pitch. I think he was trying to get that thing up by the numbers, just a little higher than that. But a good waist pitch.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan with the wind up. Here's a pitch. Fouled back to the net. Count remains. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, he got another pitch up there by the numbers, Mike. And I like it. Two in a row up there that he's thrown. Love to see him come back with that slider on the outside corner. Keep it low and let him chase it.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan with the pitch. Here we go. That's foul down the third baseline. Stays one and two. Frankie Steuze is due up next.

SPEAKER_11

Got that up in his zone a little bit. He was able to turn on it. Just another long strike. Got to keep the ball low. Inside corner on the black or way outside on the low on the low side.

SPEAKER_08

Here's pitch. That pitch fouled back into the net. Count remains one ball, two strikes. Everything that went on in the last inning, I lost count of the pitch count. So Nathan's still in good shape as far as how far he can go.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, neither pitcher is thrown a lot of pitches, probably about normal.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan with the wind up. He deals. Like it. I like that. Pitch outside. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

That's a good pitch. That's a good waist pitch. Kind of kept it low on the outside corner, trying to get him chase it.

SPEAKER_08

Again, we'll be back on the air Monday from Bishop Mueller Field. Crusaders will take on Council Bluffs Lewis Central. Swinging a miss. Strike three. McCaffrey goes down swinging for out number one. That'll bring up Steuze.

SPEAKER_11

Mike, that's exactly what we were just talking about. That curveball in the outside corner, keep it low. He showed him up, up, up, and came back with that low outside corner curveball. Beautiful pitch.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, great job there by Nathan and Peyton working together on that. Yeah. That'll bring Frankie Steuze to the plate. He struck out his first time up. Monday will be a 6 p.m. first pitch, and pre-game will be 5 45. Just inside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, Peyton didn't move much on that. Setting up inside. Good job, Freyman.

SPEAKER_08

And a reminder also, we decision made yesterday. We are going to travel to Dennison on Tuesday. That pitch in there for a strike. One ball, one strike. We'll bring you the game with Dennison Schleswig on Tuesday. First pitch, 7 o'clock. We'll be on around 6.45. So looking forward to getting down there. Can't go to Cronks anymore. They closed that years ago, but that was always a fun place to go.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, that. And that's a good venue out there. Dennison's just a really nice ball field, and usually you got a good ball team, so that'll be fun. That'll be a lot of fun to go up there.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, good competition for the Crusaders as they get ready to head into the state playoffs next Friday.

SPEAKER_11

Here we go, one-two. You got to be careful. Can't give them anything too good to hit here, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

Here's a wind up by Nathan and the pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike two or strike three. That's out number two. Nathan strikes out the first two batters of the inning, and that'll bring Ashcraft. He reached on an error his first time up and then was part of that double play pop-up when Nathan got the pop-up from Cal Jepson and threw over to first for the double play.

SPEAKER_11

Nathan's doing a really good job of spotting his ball. He's finding Peyton. He's keeping the ball low and out of the zone when he's getting ahead. Just a great job of pitching by Nathan as as of right now. Just great job.

SPEAKER_08

Here's first pitch. That pitch fouled off toward the east dugout. No balls, one strike. Yeah, this is this is the Nathan Gaswent that we saw a lot last season. Yep. You know, first first year with the Crusaders, and it's the Nathan that we we know is in there. He's just he's had some issues being able to find the plate at times and and struggle a little bit, but I mean he's on fire tonight. He's he's doing a great job.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, the key is just finding the zone, finding your inside outside pitch. And the key is stay concentrated and and just keep finding Peyton's glove. Don't worry about the batter. You just find that inside outside where the catcher's lining up.

SPEAKER_08

Here's a pitch. Checked his swing, two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

That was a good pitch, uh, right at the fist. I like that. That that's actually a good high school strike in most umpires' books, but a little bit high.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan Longlook, he's ready to deal. Here's the pitch outside, three balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

And you got to battle back here on them now.

SPEAKER_08

And at least from our angle so far, John, it seems like I mean this this umpire does not have a strike zone that goes out into the other batter's box. It looks like it's the plate and the corners, and that's it. That pitch in there for strike two. Full count on Ashcraft. Jepson awaits.

SPEAKER_11

He's calling a great game, actually. I mean, he's about as good a zone umpire-wise as we've seen this year.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I don't remember seeing him before. He's doing a great job. Here's the pitch. That's grounded back up. Passed Hendrix Heaton at second base. So Ashcraft reaches on the single, and that will bring Cal Jepson to the plate.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, Miller's got to be happy with Ashcraft on that at bat. He battled, battled, battled. Nathan did a good job coming back after being down 3-1, but just a good piece of hitting. Stuck his bat out and got it up the middle.

SPEAKER_08

Let's go 2-5.

unknown

He got it.

SPEAKER_08

Jepsen flew out to center field and popped out to Nathan Gaswin. It's two times up, so he steps in here. Extremely runner at first base, two outs.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, you got to be careful with Jepson. You can't give him too anything too good.

SPEAKER_08

Peyton able to keep that in front of him as it bounces in there for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, you got to come back. Come back, come back that same pitch. Jepsen's gonna be aggressive at the plate. Give him something low, down by the knees.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan checks the runner at first base. Deals to the plate. That's hit hard between first and second. Tommy Carroll comes up. And the throwback in. Nobody's covering second base. So Jepson able to advance to second base on that.

unknown

Number nine.

SPEAKER_08

And Ashcraft able to get all the way to third. So runners at first and third with two out for the Black Raiders here in Casey and Claiborne steps in.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, that's a huge mental miscue by the Crusaders there.

SPEAKER_08

Claiborne singled his last his last time up and scored the only uh Black Raider run.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, we had nobody covering second base, and that's just some basically some inexperience out there, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

Yep, absolutely. So Claiborne steps in here with runners at second and third and two outs. Here's the first pitch. That's in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

You know, I've said this a thousand times here, but again, this was a huge out. Two outs. Want to keep this thing one-to-one.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, base here. Base hit here could score two runs.

SPEAKER_11

Jeppson's speed. That's no question. Anything out of the infield is gonna score two.

SPEAKER_08

There's a pitch by Nathan. That is foul. Long strike. Strike out strike number two. No balls, two strikes to Claiborne.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, the thing with Claiborne, Mike, he leans a lot. He leans over the plate, so you've got to keep the ball low and outside on him, or that's gonna be the end result. He gets his barrel on the ball. But if you get him chasing on his outside corner, especially when you're up on him, he's got 0-2 count right now.

SPEAKER_08

Claiborne just a junior. Again, he's committed to Minnesota to play football.

SPEAKER_11

That's a big presence, isn't he? A big kid.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan with the long look in here, and he comes set.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, Peyton's on that outside corner.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. Outside ball one. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

He did exactly what we just talked about. Slider on that outside corner tried to get him to chase it.

SPEAKER_08

Callan Cook awaits. As expected, a great crowd here on both sides.

unknown

The Navy blue.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan with the pitch. Grounded to Beck at third. Throw over to first. In time. Out number three. Great, great scoop there by Mason Moravic at first base to retire the side. Black Raiders put two in scoring position, unable to score. We're going to go to the top of the fifth. We're still tied. One to one. We'll talk to you in 60.

SPEAKER_08

Heading to the top of the fifth inning here, folks, we are at East High. The score is tied one to one. Healing's going to send up the top of the order. JJ Hope, Peyton Erickson, and Caleb Lefaver. Give a shout out to Coach Andy Osborne. I know he's either on his way to Fastoria to see his mom for the weekend or is uh already up there. So give a shout out to him. Had a chance to visit with him on Saturday at the JV Tournament and always pick up a lot of knowledge when Coach Osborne's around.

SPEAKER_11

There isn't anybody more knowledgeable around Sioux City than Coach Osborne. And that's the absolute truth.

SPEAKER_08

That pitch on the outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

JJ's just missed his first couple about putting that ball down the line. Love to see him do that right here.

SPEAKER_08

Squares doesn't offer. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

I like it.

SPEAKER_08

Grounded out third to first is first time up and singled his last time up. Here's the windup by Chamberlain and the pitch at pitch high for ball two. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Shout out to our good friend Kevin Foss, our spiritual director up there at Healing High School. Came over and gave us a nice little shout out.

SPEAKER_08

Wind up by Chamberlain.

SPEAKER_11

Good.

SPEAKER_08

JJ puts that down. Just beat. The throw just beats him. For out number one. That'll bring Peyton Erickson to the plate.

SPEAKER_11

There's the experience of Chamberlain out there. Just a really good athlete. I mean, any other pitcher that's on the mound, JJ beats that ball out. But just a really good job by Chamberlain playing his position.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, good job there with the spin and throw to first. First pitch to Peyton. Inside. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, Peyton's seen Chamberlain for four years here, so he's not gonna fool him.

SPEAKER_08

Here's a pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike one. One ball, one strike. Caleb Lafaver, do up next. Wind up in the pitch. Outside. Two balls, one strike. Again, Healens first playoff game will be next Friday. Scheduled first pitch is 7 p.m. It will take place at East High School after East opening round game. Here's pitch.

SPEAKER_11

Here we go.

SPEAKER_08

That ball hit hard out to Colling at second base. He fields it over to first for out number two, and that will bring Caleb Lefaver to the plate. He grounded second to first his first time up and doubled his last time up and scored the Crusader run.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, great job of hitting by Peyton. Nice inside out hitting the second baseman. Hit it hard just right to him.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, again, we're putting the bat on the ball. That first pitch to Caleb in there for a strike. No balls, one strike. Chamberlain ready to deal.

SPEAKER_11

Just missed it.

SPEAKER_08

Caleb fouls that off for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, that left fielder didn't learn his lesson the last time up. He's still giving him that left field line, and nobody can put it down the line better than Caleb Lefaver.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the wind up and the pitch. Inside. One ball, two strikes. Tommy Carroll on deck. Chamberlain ready, he steps off. Steps back on, Caleb steps in. Here's the wind up in the pitch. That pitch inside. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Chamberlain tried coming on that inside corner with a high curveball.

SPEAKER_08

Caleb calls time, steps out. Steps back in. Here's the windup and the pitch. Hit hard down the first baseman. He's able to field it. Unassisted for out number three. Crusaders go quietly. We're gonna head to the bottom of the fifth. We're still tied one to one. We'll talk to you back here in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_08

We're ready to head to the bottom of the fifth inning here at East High. Score tied one to one. East will send Callan Cook, Bodie Colling, and Logan Cherkis to the plate.

SPEAKER_11

Dave Pepin Real Estate LLC. Drilling, Morningside Pharmacy. Hello to my sister Barb who works for Drilling, the Drilling Boys. Dunes Dental for Kids, Empirical, FM Wealth Management, Matt Waller, Folk Brothers, Greenville Pharmacy, Greg and Christy Yoakum, and Gretken Family Eye Care. Thank you so much for sponsoring Bishop Healing Baseball and Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_08

Callan Cook steps in here from the left side to get things started. First pitch by Nathan. Swing and a miss, strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, that's where you gotta be. That's where you gotta be with him. You gotta be low on the inside corner, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

I'm really impressed with Nathan's performance tonight. He's doing a great job moving the ball around and keeping these east hitters off balance.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, he's got a great control of that curveball. There's another one.

SPEAKER_08

In there for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

And that one he just changed the speed of his fastball. That was just he just took something off that one.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. That's fouled off down the third baseline.

SPEAKER_11

That's one of those, oops, got my bat in the way of the ball.

SPEAKER_08

Channel 9 Sports Guy Bobble Dett. So, folks, if you're paying attention and you're working at the station, give him a hard time when he gets back. Here's pitch. That ball is hit down to Moravic at first base. Toss it to Nathan for out number one. Great job there. By Moravic to scoop it up. Great job and Nathan to get over.

SPEAKER_11

That's not an easy play by any means. No. That's tough. And Nathan did a good job.

SPEAKER_08

Basically, it's it's the exact same play as earlier. He he fielded it this time, kept his head down, was able to get the out. That'll bring Bodie Colling to the plate. He flew out his first time up. Nathan taking his time here. Here's the pitch. That pitch in there for a strike. No balls, one strike. You never know. I bet it's fun. Here you go. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_11

Nice pitch.

SPEAKER_08

Fouled off.

SPEAKER_11

Great job.

SPEAKER_08

Colin got a piece of the ball, and the ball got a piece of Peyton Erickson. So we're no balls, two strikes. Logan Cherkis is on deck.

SPEAKER_11

Boy, here's a perfect opportunity right here, Mike, for him to come with something slow on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_08

Bounces in there. That's a good pitch. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

That's a good waist pitch. A nice slow slider on that outside corner kept it low. Still ahead of him, one and two. Keep the ball down below the knees.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_11

Up, got it up here.

SPEAKER_08

That's it out to Tommy Carroll in right field. He's running in, settles under it for out number two. So Colling flies out to Tommy Carroll in right field. That's two outs. That'll bring Logan Turkis to the plate.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, Tommy's so solid. Doesn't matter. I mean, he can play left, he's played center, he's played right. I mean, he can play any position in the outfield. He doesn't make mistakes, Mike. It's one thing about you can say about him. He is he is fundamentally sound. Yeah. Thank you. Yeah, he's he's doing an umb unbelievable job behind the plate, framing that ball.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, Peyton, you you can always count on me like that. First pitch was a strike. That pitch hit weekly out to Nathan. He throws over to first, and that's out number three. East retired in order here in the bottom of the fifth. We're gonna head to the top of the sixth. We're still tied one to one. Come back and see us in 60.

SPEAKER_06

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

Well, everybody listening at home in the car on the phone. If you're not out here, you're missing a great game. This is this is the type of game we expected the first time these two teams met, and things just didn't go the Crusaders' way. We're tied one-to-one as we head to the top of the six. Brilliant pitching performance by both teams. Both teams have had opportunities to push runs across, and the defense has found a way to get out of it and prevent those runs from scoring. So we're going to send Tommy Carroll, Nathan Gaswin, and Dylan Knapp to the plate here in the top of the six. See if we can't get a run here and get a lead for Nathan as we head to the bottom of the six later on. Chamberlain with the first pitch. That's grounded. Colling has to go a long way. No other way to put it. That was a great play by Colling. He he fielded that behind second base and made the long throw over and the scoop at first base for out number one.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, you gotta have a you gotta have a cannon for an arm to make that play. And Colling made that play uh backhanded behind second base and turn and flip that thing. Great job by Colling for East Eye.

SPEAKER_08

First pitch to Nathan in there for a strike. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Chance for Nathan to help his cause here.

SPEAKER_08

Swing and a miss, strike two. No balls, two strikes. Dylan Knapp do up after Nathan.

SPEAKER_11

He was a little behind on it that, but that's okay. Usually he'll come back with the same pitch, and then he makes him pay.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. High for ball one. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

We've said it a thousand times, Mike. There's probably no better two-strike hitter than Dylan Knapp.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch to Nathan. That hit him.

SPEAKER_11

Second time.

SPEAKER_08

That got him in the knee. That's two in a row. Hit by pitch there. That'll bring Dylan Knapp to the plate. One out here in the top of the sixth inning. Gonna send Ryden Frelick out to courtesy run for Nathan as he walks off that hit in the knee.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, Dylan needs to get that hitting going here again. Get back on a little bit of a streak.

SPEAKER_08

Chamberlain checks runner at first. Here's a pitch. And that hit Dylan. Two pitches in a row. We've got a little something cooking here in the top of the sixth inning, folks. That'll bring Mason Morobic to the plate.

SPEAKER_11

Mike, you and I talk about it all the time. On base percentage. Doesn't matter how you get over there. I mean, you get hit by a pitch, walk. Doesn't matter. We got guys on first and second and haven't got a hit. Actually, we haven't put the other than the first out. Don't know if we've even swung, other than now, Nathan did have that one.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, Nathan did. Nathan Nathan was late on that second strike.

SPEAKER_11

But yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, we got we got two guys on. Mason squares. Runners charge. Mason pulls back. That pitch outside for a ball. One ball, no strikes. Healing dugout. Getting a little rowdy over there. Encouraging Mason on here.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, the infield other first baseman's in. Third baseman's up on the grass. They're expecting a bunt here.

SPEAKER_08

Mason squares again, pulls back. That was in there for a strike. One ball, one strike. If you get a chance, stick around between games. We're gonna have uh special Healing legend on for a little bit of an interview. Find out what's been going on with him since he left Bishop Healand. Chamberlain checks back to second base. Here's the pitch. That low and inside. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Here we go. Situation baseball right here, Mike. We got an opportunity guy on first and second. Got to get a good lead. We got we got good speed at second base. Anything through the infield.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. That's high. Three balls, one strike. Chase Beck, do up next.

SPEAKER_11

Great at bat by Mason so far. Really seeing the ball well. He's gonna get something good to hit here, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

Chase had the RBI single his last time up. Swing and a miss, strike two.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, he just missed it. Good cut by Mason.

SPEAKER_08

Three balls, two strikes. Runners at first and second for the Crusaders with one out. We are tied one to one here in the top of the sixth inning.

SPEAKER_11

What a great ball game. What a great ball game so far.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch by Chamberlain. That falls bounced out in front of the plate. Chamberlain feels it, tosses over to first. Runners will advance. Now we've got runners at second and third. Two outs. That will bring Chase back to the plate. RBI single his last time up.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, good chase. Good chance for Chase to do some more damage. I mean, he's he's come up to the plate all three times with guys in scoring position, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

Yep. And took advantage last time and need to take advantage this time. I'm looking right down the third baseline. That'd be a perfect place to rip one. Chamberlain steps off.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, they're playing him to go right. Second baseman's moved over. Right fielder's hugging the line a little bit, a little bit over.

SPEAKER_08

Chamberlain winds and deals. Swing and a miss by Beck for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Nothing wrong with that cut. That was a beautiful cut by Chase.

SPEAKER_08

High drama out here at East High. Score tied one to one. Crusaders with a chance to take the lead. Here's the pitch. Outside corner, strike two. No balls, two strikes. Scored their only run with two outs. Now's a good time to score another one. Long look in by Chamberlain. He starts his windup. There's the pitch. That's outside corner. Beck goes down looking for strike three. Crusaders get two men in scoring position, unable to push anything across. We'll go to the bottom of the six, still tied one-to-one. We'll talk to you in 60.

SPEAKER_08

Welcome back, Crusader fans. We're heading to the bottom of the sixth inning here at East High. Score tied one to one.

SPEAKER_11

Got a chance to get a few more of our sponsors in here, Mike. Roz Cove and the Heidman Law Firm, Heinemann Family Dentistry. I'm on Communications. JJ Coins and Collectibles. Jimmy Johns. Keller Williams Real Estate Agent Tammy Bertrand. Cruz Financial Group. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healand Baseball and Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_08

Cal Chamberlain steps in here to lead things off for the East High Black Raiders in the bottom of the sixth inning. Gaswin has four K's on the night, and Chamberlain has seven. So again, an extremely well-pitched game and great job defensively by both teams to keep this a tie game. That first pitch just missed for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Umpire just leaned down, toad Peyton. He I know exactly what he said. He said I missed that one. He just that's one of those ones as an umpire, you know you missed it, and and he did. That was a strike on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_08

Unfortunately, that doesn't do us any good. I know, I know, but that's it was nice for him to admit it. So here's the pitch. That pitch fouled off. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, he immediately went right down to Peyton's ear and said something into his ear. And and I've been there. Been there, done that, so I know what that feels like. One and one. Good chance. Good job by Nathan coming back.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_11

Gotta let him out. Bunted foul. Nice job.

SPEAKER_08

That'll take the count to one ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, I think that's the second time he's tried that. Second time that thing's rolled just down the line and then goes foul.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I'm trying to remember. I don't think I've seen a team take as long to walk back from first base to home plate as these guys do.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah. I come on that inside corner, Mike. He's he's he's Nathan starts his wind up and

SPEAKER_08

And here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_11

Nice pitch.

SPEAKER_08

That is popped up. JJ Hope. Over. He's under it. Short left field for out number one. Chamberlain pops out to JJ Hope. That will bring Lincoln McCaffrey to the plate. He has struck out both times tonight.

SPEAKER_11

Does anybody cover more ground than JJ Hope? I mean, that thing was in left field.

SPEAKER_08

And it's good, it's a good thing he was there because I don't know as even as fast as Jonas is that he could have got it got in and got that. So huge play by JJ there. First pitch here. That is popped out to center field. Dylan takes about eight steps in, makes the catch for out number two. So just what healing needs. A quick inning here so far for Nathan Gaswent. That'll bring Frankie Steuze up. He has struck out both times so far tonight.

SPEAKER_11

Folks, you got to get out here. I mean, you're we're we're witnessing just an absolute gem by both teams here. Great game to come out and watch. If you're on your way or you're driving, you're hearing us, come on out to East High School. We're witnessing just a great ball game.

SPEAKER_08

Here's first pitch. That's in there for strike one. No balls, one strike. And if you do come out, I can highly recommend the loaded nachos, folks. I had them Saturday and they're phenomenal. Here's pitch. Swinging a miss, strike two. No balls, two strikes to Steus. Ashcraft is due up next.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, good piece of pitching so far by now he's way ahead. Don't give him anything too good to hit here, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. Just missed outside. One ball, two strikes. Like to give a huge shout out to Grace Tott back at the studio. Her technical issues earlier. She did a good job keeping things going the best she could while we figured out what was going on. That grounded foul remains one ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, and Jack Stevens, our other uh worker that sometimes fills in down there. He's out here usually taking pitchers. Does a great job of keeping Catholic radio on Facebook, putting the pitchers on there.

SPEAKER_08

You notice he's wisely staying away from me and you. Here's a pitch by Nathan.

SPEAKER_11

Nice pitch.

SPEAKER_08

Inside. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

I don't mind that pitch, Mike. He came up and in on him. And just a good waist pitch. Now you gotta come down low. Come down low with something. Down there right by his knees.

SPEAKER_08

Here's a pitch. That's trouble. That's it out Tommy Carroll in right field.

SPEAKER_11

That's trouble.

SPEAKER_08

Tommy makes the catch. I couldn't see, but folks, from what the angle I saw it, it had to be pretty close to right at the fence.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, you got to go right there. I got a good look at it, Mike. Got it right on the warning track. Great job by Tommy playing him.

SPEAKER_08

Great job. Great job. I know I got everybody in the dugout standing up, and I got everybody in the bleacher standing up. Folks, we're gonna head to the top of the seventh inning. We've got a tie score one-to-one. We'll talk to you back here in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_06

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

Starting top of the seventh here, Jonas Jensen steps in. Squares to bunt, bunts that foul. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, not a bad move by Jonas. He's got such good speed going down the line, and he just missed that thing. The tough part about laying one down on East is Chamberlain. It plays the right side of the infield so well. You really you almost got to take it down the first baseline, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

Here's a wind up in the pitch. In there for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Top of the order will do up after Pip Jensen. It'll be JJ and Peyton Erickson.

SPEAKER_11

This is a good opportunity for us to do some damage here, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. Outside, ball one. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Gotta protect the plate. Anything close.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the wind up and the pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike three. Jonas goes down swinging for out number one. That'll bring JJ Hope to the plate. For the Black Raiders when we get to the bottom of the seventh, they've got nine, one, and two coming up.

SPEAKER_11

And that kind of funny is the same as us. 9-1-2 going into the seventh for both teams. It's an opportunity here. JJ can do something special here. He's seen him three times.

SPEAKER_08

He scored their run in the third. Healing scored theirs in the fourth.

SPEAKER_11

Just missed it.

SPEAKER_08

JJ sends that foul out of play for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, JJ just missed that thing. Boy, they're not letting him in the lay one down. Third baseman's in.

SPEAKER_08

Here's second pitch. Low and inside. Ball one. One ball, one strike. Peyton Erickson waits his opportunity here in the top of the seventh. Score tied one to one. That pitch right down the middle for strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_13

Come on, let's go.

SPEAKER_08

Not sure how much time we'll have between games. I'm guessing close to 30. That pitch inside, two balls, two strikes. We'll try to get an estimation on time so we can let everybody know. But again, we'll have an interview between games. We'll take a break and then have an interview with the Healing legend and bring a game two. Here's a pitch. Inside. Here we go. Here we go.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, Jepson wanted that pitch, but definitely inside. JJ's got a great eye.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_11

Boy, just missed it. Dang it.

SPEAKER_08

Hit well out to center field. Center fielder settles under it. Yeah, just makes the play for out number two, and that'll bring Peyton Erickson to the plate. Ashcraft brings up number 12. He has struck out and grounded out to second both the other two times he's been up.

SPEAKER_11

Good piece of hitting by JJ. Just missed it, just got underneath it.

SPEAKER_08

Peyton's due for a base hit. Get a nice double out of him with the courtesy runner and got Caleb Lefaver on deck.

SPEAKER_11

You know, I think Mike, I just I think you got to jump on this first pitch, Peyton, and they've been throwing him a strike, and a lot of times it's that curveball. They like to throw that curveball to him on the first pitch.

SPEAKER_08

So Peyton steps in. Chamberlain Deals. Here's a pitch. He gets on it.

SPEAKER_11

He roped it.

SPEAKER_08

Oh man. Claiborne runs to his right to make the play for out number three. Erickson hits it well, flies out to right field. We're headed to the bottom of the seventh inning. We're still tied one-to-one. We'll talk to you back here in 60 seconds, folks.

SPEAKER_06

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_08

We're headed to the bottom of the seventh, folks. I'm laughing because Kathy Lefaver brought us food and Noah dropped off a $10 bill. I didn't know what that was for until Kathy came up and said, I think that's mine. So we're headed to the bottom of the seventh here. East will send Ashcraft, Cal Jepson, and Caseon Claiborne to the plate. We are tied one to one.

SPEAKER_11

East would like nothing better than to get this guy on with Cal Jephson coming up to the plate.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, it'd be interesting to see if he does get on how aggressive they are on the base pass.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, we got it. We gotta go right after him.

SPEAKER_08

With Jephson at the plate. So Nathan's ready to go. He starts his wind up, and here's the first pitch. Outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Now the folks out here were treated to a real gem tonight.

SPEAKER_08

Pitch in there, fouled off. Out of play. One ball, one strike. Ooh, and that hit a car or somebody by the reaction of the crowd. All I heard was an ooh. Here's pitch. That's lined out to Dylan. That ball's gonna drop. Ashcraft takes a wide turn. Ashcraft leadoff single. East high as for leadoff runner on with no outs, and that will bring Cal Jepson to the plate. He's flown out to center, popped out to the pitcher, and singled in his three at bats.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, that last at bat, that ball just kind of dropped right in between those two. Couldn't have placed it any better.

SPEAKER_08

No, that that looked like that went where it looked like Peyton's was was going at the end of the last inning.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, it did.

SPEAKER_08

So Nathan checks a runner at first, and here's the pitch. Inside, ball one, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, I don't think they're gonna be real aggressive with him down there, Mike. When you got Jepson up to the plate, a good hitter, they're gonna let him do his thing. We just gotta we gotta challenge Jepson. We gotta try to hit into a double play ball here.

SPEAKER_08

Nathan checks the runner at first. Here's pitch. That's hit hard out to right field. Carroll feels it.

SPEAKER_11

Got him. Oh!

SPEAKER_08

Ashcraft took a wide turn to throw into second, and the umpire said he was back in. Uh he's closer than we are, but let's just say that was close, folks. That was very close.

SPEAKER_11

Let me tell you, I haven't seen, I never see, I never see JJ upset, ever. No. JJ knows he got him. He's still upset. Yeah, JJ got it. He knows he tagged him, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, he knows he knows he had him.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Got a conversation here at the mound. Got to stand up here, John, for Nathan Gasman. What a performance by that young man. That's the kind of pitcher tonight that we knew he was. Fantastic job by that young man.

SPEAKER_11

Unbelievable job by Nathan.

SPEAKER_08

Obviously disappointed he's coming out, but he can't be disappointed in the performance that he had.

SPEAKER_11

No, that's the Nathan Gasman we're used to seeing. And that's the kind of kid we know, the bulldog out there, the kid that hits inside outside. Just a great job. Great job tonight.

SPEAKER_08

That's gonna bring Caleb Lefaver in to try to hold this at a one uh tie game and send it to extra innings.

SPEAKER_11

This is interesting.

SPEAKER_08

Got a lot of moving parts going on here, folks. We're gonna try to keep up with it as things get moved around. Looks like Jonas is gonna come out. Hendricks is gonna come out. Nathan is going out to right field. Tommy Carroll will move over to left. Zach Harpineau is at third, and Chase is over at second. So I think we've got everybody covered as far as changes.

SPEAKER_11

Is that Zach over third or is that Vickery?

SPEAKER_08

Oh, is it Vickery? It's Vickery. I'm sorry. Yeah. You're right. Jackson Vickery over at third base. Big moment here for both these teams. Runners at first and second with no outs for East. And Caleb of Favor in to try to keep this a tie game and send it to extra innings.

SPEAKER_11

Unbelievable job by Nathan Gaslin. Can you can you ask for any more? Number one ranked team, East High School, with 389 batting average coming into this, and he shut them down basically.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, he did, held them to one run, and again, they had opportunities to score runs just like we have, and Nathan was able to get out of trouble and keep it a uh one one-to-one game. And now uh let's hope old reliable Caleb Lefaver can come in and send it to extra innings.

SPEAKER_11

Now, if you're coach Miller, you you gotta this changes things having Caleb come in because now instead of being aggressive, he's gonna probably try to bun him over, my guess.

SPEAKER_08

I would imagine, yeah.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, I mean with Caleb in there, maybe someone else you would just let him swing away.

SPEAKER_08

But yeah, Claiborne steps in. He's grounded out twice and singled and scored the only run. Here's the first pitch.

SPEAKER_11

That's up in the air.

SPEAKER_08

That's fouled off out of play. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

Changed up speed on Caleb throwing him that slider.

SPEAKER_08

Caleb comes set, checks the runner, and here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_11

Good pitch.

SPEAKER_08

Just misses for ball one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_11

That's that slider on the outside corner, Mike. I like it. Changed the speed way up, trying to get trying to get Claiborne to kind of sucker for it and stretch the outside corner.

SPEAKER_08

Here's a pitch by Caleb. Just misses. Two balls, one strike. He's not missing by much on these pitches, folks. He is right there.

SPEAKER_11

That ball's knee high. I mean. You gotta call that. I mean, you don't want to go any any higher than that. You want to keep that ball knee high.

SPEAKER_08

Here's the pitch. Outside, ball three. Three balls, one strike. Callan Cook is due up next. Caleb long look in here. He comes set. Checks back at second, and here's a pitch. Bounces that one in there for ball four. East has the bases loaded here in the top bottom of the seventh inning. Score tied one to one. There are no outs. And that will bring Cook to the plate.

SPEAKER_11

No place for him now, Mike, and got a force out at any base. Here we go. Situation baseball. Infield's got to come in. I mean, you have no room. Everybody's got to come home on this.

SPEAKER_08

Yep, definitely have to cut down that run at the plate. One to one, bottom of the seventh. Base is loaded, no outs. Here's the pitch. Inside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

unknown

Come on, Caleb.

SPEAKER_13

Let's go.

SPEAKER_08

Great moments are born from great opportunities, and this is one right here. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_11

Two balls, no strikes. I mean, now you gotta come. There's no room for a mic. You gotta come, you gotta come with it.

SPEAKER_08

Yep, obviously a great hitter's pitch here. Here's the pitch. That's grounded. Down to first. Throw home. And the throw did not beat him at home. What's he calling?

SPEAKER_11

And he's saying he didn't touch the plate. He's saying he didn't touch the plate. He he had his foot on the plate. Here comes West Coach Wesselman.

SPEAKER_08

We'll see how this turns out. I think I know how it's going to, folks.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, they're they're still discussing this at home plate, Mike.

SPEAKER_08

Looks like East is going to get the walk-off win two to one in the bottom of the seventh.

SPEAKER_11

But folks, what a great game.

SPEAKER_08

That was a great game. Great game by two really good teams. Great pitching performance on both sides. Nathan Gaswin pitched his heart out tonight and did exactly what we know that he can do.

SPEAKER_11

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_08

Both teams had opportunities. I mean, this very easily could have been a 7-4 game, you know, 9-7, something like that. Bases loaded with no outs, one out, two outs, and just weren't able to push runs across on either side. But uh East was able to get their third win of the season over the Crusaders. And now it's time to regroup. What a tough way to lose, though.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah. Tough situation for Caleb coming in with guy in first and second, no outs. Uh walking that first one. And they had him at home plate. I I don't know what else to say. And I think the umpire is telling the coach Wesselman that his foot was off the plate. I'm looking straight at it, Mike, and there's no way his foot was off the plate.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, his foot wasn't off the plate, but yeah. I mean, you know, great job by Mason down there at first base. I mean, he fielded it, knew exactly where he had to go, mate. Made a perfect throw home, and uh either not in time or or Peyton's foot was off the plate. But uh again, great game by both teams, and and hopefully game two will match this one, and if not better, and hopefully the Crusaders can walk out of here with a win.

SPEAKER_11

This was fun. This this is fun. This is I tell you what, uh probably the best game, or the last two games we've we've done, probably the two best games of the year for Healen as far as pitching, defense, uh, and you know, creating situations.

SPEAKER_08

That's a definite true statement right there, John. Let's go ahead and take a five-minute break and we'll come back and we'll have an interview with uh Healing Legend and get ready for game two. Thank you for listening, folks. We'll talk to you in a bit.

SPEAKER_06

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic Radio station.

SPEAKER_08

Welcome back, everybody, out to East High. Again, if you just joined us or were with us the whole time. Great performance by both teams. Great pitching performance by Nathan Gafslin and Cal Chamberlain. Can't ask Nathan to do any more than he did. And as promised, we have a healing legend joining us here at half uh between games. I always call it halftime. It's baseball, it's between games. Ethan Erickson has decided to join us, thankfully, so we can fill some time. But Ethan, how you doing?

SPEAKER_10

I'm doing great.

SPEAKER_08

What'd you think about that first game?

SPEAKER_10

Man made gas man. You know, he just really shoved it, shoved it. You know, he he was throwing hard all night, controlling the box, and he's just working hard, you know, kid he is.

SPEAKER_08

No, that was definitely the Nathan that we remember from last year. I mean he's had some some bumpy roads here this year in the first game against East. Obviously didn't go the way Healing wanted either game, but I know Nathan wanted to get a little redemption tonight and show that he's a better pitcher than what he showed that first time around. And I I think he went well above whatever he was hoping to do.

SPEAKER_10

Oh yeah, no doubt. He definitely did. He compared to that last game, you know, he was just confident, he showed up, he he got his work done, you know, and he really, I mean, as Nate's close friend, you know, just seeing him compete up there and having fun and doing what he loves to do, you know, and seeing he can be successful. That's nothing better than I can ask for.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, that's awesome. It's good to see you. I turned around and saw you. I said, Well, we gotta get that guy down here. So let's talk about what's gone on with you since uh you left Healing. You first year in college under your belt, where'd you go and and where you want to be when you grow up?

SPEAKER_10

Well Well, I uh ended up at Iowa Central in Fort Dodge, and now I'm uh I'm headed back for another year, gonna hopefully hit some home runs and hopefully etch myself into that history, you know. Uh we ended up uh fourth in the country this year. Uh first in almost every offensive stat line there was, so super great team, super great environment. Uh and then I'm still I'm gonna be a pediatrician.

SPEAKER_08

So you're gonna be a pediatrician, good for you. And uh yeah, I I tried to follow along as the season went on, as uh you know what was going on with you guys. Did you get many opportunities to play?

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, I traveled a lot, got got 10 at bats and had some good contact. Just kind of it's hard to break a lineup like that when you got uh in right field, you got uh uh McNeese commit and then first base uh Iowa commit. So I mean, but this year, you know, I'm hoping for getting my work done. I've been working hard, getting getting my work in, so that's all I can ask for, that's all I can do.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, you I mean you definitely went to a program that's got some history, and uh, you know, I know you well enough. I know there's no doubt that you're gonna put in the time and do what you can to to get in the lineup and and spend more time uh doing that. And I know from uh my good friend and yours, uh Tony Michaels, you're playing some wooden bat uh baseball this summer. How's that going for you?

SPEAKER_10

It's pretty good. Um spent some good time so far, been about a month in uh leading the league in RBIs. I was I got four home runs out of uh I think I'm second in the league in that, and then my team, you know, we're just working hard, kind of kind of in a slump for wins, but you know, it's it's a good time. It's I just try not to break bats, you know, and try not to spend too much money.

SPEAKER_08

How big a difference is it uh between uh the loaded aluminum bat and the and the old uh wood bat?

SPEAKER_10

Honestly, when you catch it, it's not too much different, but when you get sawed off in your hands, you know, there's no worse feeling than that, you know, or just breaking your bat, your your heart breaks every time. So I've only broken one so far, but I'm hoping that's the only one.

SPEAKER_08

Well that's good. Just so you know, Tony keeps me updated. He said he he went to your first game and said double E had a home run, and I think you were two for four. And uh has he been to many of them? I I know he's he moved down there to for work and to be closer to his parents, and I figure, you know, he spent a lot, I think every game last year before the game, you you guys had a little private chat session off to the side, and I tried to jump in a couple times, and Tony pushed me away and said this between Ethan and I. But um we enjoyed watching you last year and and you know obviously uh glad that things are going well for you. We'd love to have you in the lineup here. Uh too bad that high schools don't have five and five, and and we could have kept you around a little bit. So I appreciate you stopping over. I know that uh that wasn't what you planned. And you're one of the more talkative interviews we've done this year with kids, so I appreciate that. Yeah, of course. I've never known you to be a shortage uh of words, and I think that probably comes from your mom more than your dad. Yeah, I guess so. Well, thanks again for stopping over, Ethan. Appreciate it. Good luck the rest of the summer and good luck next year. We're gonna go ahead and take a four minute break, and we will be back, folks.

SPEAKER_15

And Central Bank.
