SPEAKER_17

Welcome everybody to Vichet Mueller Field on a typical Iowa summer day here in July. I'm Mike Skaggs, joined by John Tritz, and we're going to be bringing you the game between the 14th ranked Healing Crusaders and the number 10 ranked Council Bluffs, Lewis Central Titans.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Mike, this is really an exciting uh game for a couple of reasons. First of all, it's a prelude to next year because Lewis Central is going to be coming into the Missouri River Athletic Conference. So we'll be seeing these guys in two doubleheaders next year. So Lewis Central smartly has gotten some games with some of the city schools to kind of get an idea of what they're coming into. Secondly, this is a great ball team. They're 28-5. They've got some numbers that are very similar to East that we played the other night. I know they're 10th ranked, probably haven't played as tough a school, uh schools, excuse me, but they have a 349 team batting average, and they have an ERA. I think what did I tell you earlier, Mike? I think it was like one 1.66 team ERA, which is unheard of. They got several guys that that haven't given up and earned a run that uh this year. So looking forward to the matchup. This is a great matchup for the Crusaders going into the playoffs, and it'll kind of see where we're at right now.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, absolutely. Uh looking forward to a great game guy. Chance to see two good teams here. And Healing, of course, is continuing to get ready for uh state tournament time starting on Friday from East High School. And they've got a game tomorrow night in Denison, a reminder we will be doing that game. Before I go much further, I want to give a shout out to uh Jeff and Emily Knapton down in Lincoln, uh, a great family that I've had a chance to get to know here in the last couple months. And uh Jeff's getting ready for and awaiting a bone marrow transplant later this month or in August. And uh if you've got time, folks, uh say a prayer for him out there and hopefully he can get that transplant done and and get back uh being healthy and and doing all the things that he loves to do. We uh got two of the top in the tops in the state in this game. JJ Hope, he's tied for third in 3A with uh 50 hits, he's five behind the leader, and they've got uh Blake Fort, who is tied for third with 46 RBIs. He's only six behind the leader in four A. So uh a couple of uh quality players out here uh in state rankings as far as that goes, and uh should be a good game. Looking forward to it. Uh sorry the JV game ran a little bit long and they're going through infield right now. So I'm gonna go ahead and go through the batting order and lineup so we can be sure and get that in before we get going. For the visiting Lewis Central Titans, they'll lead off with Brooks Bond. He'll be playing shortstop. He comes in with a batting average of 500. Batting second, playing center field with a batting average of 400 is Caden Neppel. Batting third, playing first base, Blake Fort, he's hitting 400. Drew Heller, batting fourth, playing left field, he comes in with a batting average of 394. Batting fifth, DH and pitcher will be Brody Burrows. He's hitting 363. Batting sixth and playing second base, Owen Dufik, he is batting 302. Batting seventh, Connor Hathaway, right field, batting 323, batting eighth, and playing third base is Aiden Buckles. He's comes in hitting 190. And Brody Applegate batting ninth, he's catching, he comes in hitting 128 for the Crusaders, leading off JJ Hope, shortstop, batting 394. Tommy Carroll playing center field, batting second, hitting 274. Batting third and hitting 418 is Caleb LeFavor, uh designated hitter. He is uh DH for Jonas Jensen tonight. Well, we had Noah LeFaver up here. He's now he's disappeared. Batting fourth, Peyton Erickson batting 269, playing catcher. Batting fifth, hitting 314 is Nathan Gaswent playing right field. Pitching for the Crusaders tonight will be Dylan Knapp. He is batting 287, he'll be batting sixth. Batting seventh will be Vickery, he's batting 263 playing third base. Batting eighth will be Mason Moravic hitting 185 playing left field. And batting ninth will be Chase Beck playing second base. He is hitting 222. Dillon comes into tonight's game, he started seven games. He has a record of three and four. He's pitched 39 innings, the teams are hitting 288 against him. He's given up 47 hits, 30 runs, 24 earned. He's walked 16, he's hit 12 of the 55 that Healand has hit this year. 31 strikeouts and has a team uh an ERA of 431. That's going to be a key tonight, is not hitting batters.

SPEAKER_05

Hitting batters can't let them on on the base pass. They're very similar to us, Mike. They get on, they're extremely aggressive on the base pass. We're talking about JJ Hope. Uh, when he gets on, he's a leadoff hitter. JJ's got 33 out of 35 stolen bases this year, which was phenomenal. And as a team, we're 84-97. We're pretty aggressive on the base pass. And when I say that, now we're pretty aggressive. Then you go over to Lewis Central. Lewis Central is 131 for 139 in stealing bases. You talked about Bond hitting 500. Bond's got 24 out of, he's 24 out of 25 in stealing the bases. And Dufek, they kind of do what we do. They put somebody at toward the bottom of the lineup and somebody toward the top that can run. And Dufick as well is 24 of 26 in stolen bases. Very similar teams. They get guys on, they're gonna run.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, they're definitely gonna test uh Peyton Erickson behind the plate tonight. We know what Peyton can do back there, and it's gonna be important to keep that ball in front of him and important for Dylan to get off to a good start. Can't uh can't get himself into trouble and and try to work his way out of it, get guys on. Obviously, you know, those two guys, as many stolen bases as they have, if they're gonna get on first base, it that's gonna distract Dylan from uh focusing on the on the hitter at the plate, and that's gonna be huge uh to to be able to stay on top of it and and get ahead and account and get some outs.

SPEAKER_05

Let's look at the last four games, Mike, that uh that we have played, and you and I talked about it last week how important last week was. And two the two games against AL and two games against East. Uh I know the two games against East, we lost both of them. Didn't quite turn out we would have loved to have gotten a split, but what a huge first game. Actually played toe-to-toe with them, probably should have won the game, had opportunities in the fifth and sixth inning. And in the second game, we actually didn't play a bad game. They beat us nine to nothing, but uh got some good pitching from uh from Mason Moravic and just a couple miscues and they kind of jumped on that. But the AL game as well, uh lost the first one, but we came back and won a really good game in that second game. And these are the type of games that we're gonna have if we want to make it to state.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, it's not gonna get any easier uh from here on out. And uh Healing's gonna have to they're gonna have to focus on doing the things that they're good at and improving on things that uh I've kind of been biting them here lately. Uh one of those is get guys on second and third with one out, two outs, and not being able to drive them in. That was that was to me the big difference in game number one against East. Is they had probably the bases loaded twice, and I know a couple times guys on second and third with one out, and just not able to push them across.

SPEAKER_05

No, that's and and that's kind of been a recurring theme over the last probably three weeks. We've had opportunities. Um, we just need to put a full game together, and tonight'd be a perfect perfect night to start that.

SPEAKER_17

Absolutely. Some other some other things to keep uh folks aware of out there is Lewis Central comes into this game averaging 9.9 runs a game. Crusaders average six point three, runs against for Lewis Central. They give up 2.2 runs a game, and healing gives up 5.3. So they've got a pretty potent offense and uh obviously a really good defense, and their pitching is is really good. And as I was going through that batting order and those those numbers, uh you get all the way through number seven, and I mean it's it's almost like uh the East High lineup.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, yeah, they're they're uh they're very potent, and I'm sure I would not be surprised if East doesn't have a couple of their coaches in the stands tonight because they're probably gonna see Lewis Central either in the semi-summer finals.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, I would think so, and and I know they they did, if I remember right, they did play Lewis Central earlier in the year. And I think Lewis uh Central was swept by East, but uh that was earlier in the year, and I'm sure that I'm sure both those teams are setting up their pitching staffs to uh make sure that they're able to throw their best uh whenever they meet up with each other. So that's gonna be a good one. Uh tomorrow night, like I said, we are coming on from Denison. John and I make the trip down, and first pitch is supposed to be seven o'clock. The JV is playing before that. Uh we hope to get on as close to seven as we can, but they've got lights in Denison, so they won't cut the JV game short unless it's absolutely necessary. So uh just plan on 6 45 pregame and 7 o'clock first pitch, and then Friday we will be coming to you from East High School for the first game against Storm Lake. That game is scheduled for 7 o'clock. It will follow the East first round game. And we plan on coming on at 6 45 with first pitch at 7. Uh, hopefully we can keep as close to that as we can. And I was informed today that as long as Healand is hosting in the playoffs, the games will be at East High School. So if you want to get out and watch them play, uh Friday night at East, hopefully they can get that win, and then the one following that, I believe, is Monday, and that would be at East as well.

SPEAKER_05

It's just a beautiful venue out there. East High School. Just a beautiful venue out there. They they redid the field, they've got the turf field like we do in the beautiful upfield, so it'll be a lot of fun.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, and that was uh that was a pretty good setup. I I like being down that first baseline. I thought that was good. There won't be uh Iowa baseball won't be doing YouTube, I don't believe, so maybe we can get back against the concession stand and and be behind home plate.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we'll have to take a look at that when we get out there, Mike. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_17

And your winter, number 22, going through the lineups right now. Let me see if we're gonna. Looks like we're gonna be doing the national anthem. When they get ready to start that, we are gonna take a two-minute break. I'll let you know here in just a second, Grace, whenever we're done.

Hello, listeners. I am Father Travis Crotty, the chaplain of Bishop Healen Catholic High School. As we prepare for this athletic competition with the Crusaders, we want to take an opportunity to offer a pregame prayer, keeping in mind the safety and the enthusiasm of all sporting events for the safety of our own students and those of our opponents. Let us pray in the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Thank you, listeners, and go, Crusaders.

SPEAKER_03

And now, back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_17

Just finish up the national anthem here, and let me tell you, he's multi-talented, folks. He's running the scoreboard. He is keeping score, and he is also singing the national anthem. That was Chad Erickson. He did a phenomenal job. That was a great.

SPEAKER_05

I think he might be hired for the rest of the season, Mike.

SPEAKER_17

Absolutely. I know who I can find, who I can ask to sing national anthem at NAI stuff now.

SPEAKER_05

This is exciting stuff. What a beautiful night. Get out here to Briar Cliff. Breeze is starting to pick up a little bit, a little earlier. It was just kind of dead, and it was really humid out. Breeze is starting to pick up. Flags are blowing out left field, so anything up in the air will uh really take off. I'm looking down the left field line and lots of people under the trees in the shade. So just a great night for baseball folks. Come out, you're gonna see a really good ball game. Uh Lewis Central, Bishop Healing, both ranked, uh, both going into the playoffs. Want to have a good outing here tonight.

SPEAKER_17

Finishing up warmups here, and we're gonna get started in just a second.

SPEAKER_05

I know she's listening from drilling out there, one of our fine underwriters and sponsors.

SPEAKER_17

And speaking of that, if you want to get behind the Crusaders on their tournament trail, you can reach out to the folks at Catholic Radio, and they can get you hooked up. It's very affordable to support the Crusaders as well as Catholic Radio.

unknown

I got a meeting on the point and I got a file behind.

SPEAKER_17

Looks like Brooks Bond is going to step in to get things started here. He'll step in from the left side. Again, he's playing shortstop and comes into this game hitting 500.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, just a great contact here. Mike gets on base and has an on base percentage of 638. So I mean, this guy almost seven out of every ten at bats, he's on.

SPEAKER_17

Well, let's hope it's 0% tonight.

unknown

I hear you.

SPEAKER_17

Dylan's ready. He's gonna start his wind up here, and here's the first pitch. We're underway. Pitch just low for ball one. One ball, no strikes. That ball's hit hard out to right field. That's gonna drop in there. That's all the way to the fence. Bond is in with a leadoff double, and that will bring up Caden Neppel. That's the 17th double of the season for Bond.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he turned on that first hitch. You know, I think you and I talk about that a lot of times that first hitch is a destination all over it.

SPEAKER_17

So Neppel steps in from the right side. That ball's head hard down to victory at third. Over to first for out number one. That will bring out Blake Ford. Bond is able to advance to third on that play.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, great job by victory keeping that ball in front of him. Making the play over to first base. Bond just jumped as soon as he threw the ball. He had a great jump. Probably could have got him at the second if he would have faked it.

SPEAKER_17

Catches that outside corner for strike one. No balls one strike. Drew Heller is due up next. Popped out to left field. Catch is made out there. No chance for a play at the plate, so Bond will score on the sacrifice fly. Lewis Central leads this one one to nothing. That will bring Drew Heller to the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Good job by Neil and though, focusing on the batter, just working on the out. Uh not letting Bond at third base bother him. That's a huge out. That's two outs. You're limiting the beautiful pitch on the inside corner.

SPEAKER_17

That pitch in there for a strike.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, you're limiting the damage that could have been done in this first inning just by focusing.

SPEAKER_17

Pitch bounces in there for a ball. One ball, one strike. Pitcher Brody Burroughs is due up next. Ball's lined hard out to center field. That'll drop in front of Carroll. Single by Heller will bring up Brody Burrows. Two outs here in the top of the first. Lewis Central pushed to run across. They lead one to nothing.

SPEAKER_04

Number 16, Brody Burroughs.

SPEAKER_17

Brody is a big kid.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Lewis Central's got some nice looking athletes.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, third on the team in RBIs with 30. Pitch bounces in there for a ball, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Three out of the first four batters.

SPEAKER_17

Dylan throws over to first. Burroughs steps back in. Dylan comes set. Here's the pitch. Runner goes.

unknown

Oh, just a little high.

SPEAKER_17

Throw high down to second base. There in time, but it was just a little high. So Heller with a stolen base. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

That was a tough pitch for Peyton. He had the curveball on the outside. He had to go reach for it a little bit, so not able to come up, throwing, get that ball out of the glove like he normally has to do.

SPEAKER_17

Dylan delivers to the plate. Here's a pitch. That pitch is way inside for a ball. Two balls, one strike. Owen Dufik is up due up next.

SPEAKER_05

Kind of John got JJ holding them on.

SPEAKER_17

Here's a pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike two. Two balls, two strikes. Two balls, two strikes, two outs. Runner at second base. Lewis Central leads this one one to nothing. We're just getting started here in the top of the first inning. Here's the pitch. Popped out just over JJ's head at short. Gonna have a play at the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Beautiful throw.

SPEAKER_17

And he's out.

SPEAKER_05

Beautiful throw.

SPEAKER_17

Heller thrown out at home on that for out number three.

SPEAKER_05

Mike, that's just how you run it. Peyton Erickson set up the relay throw, and he's yelling four, four, four all the way. Mason Roberts throw one. Balance are right. They're just a gorgeous play at home for the playoffs.

SPEAKER_17

Fantastic. Uh Lewis Central pushes one run across in the top of the first. We're going to head to the bottom of the first. We'll be back in 60.

SPEAKER_18

SPEAKER_03

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_17

Crusaders trail this in one to nothing. They will send up JJ Hope, Tommy Carroll, and Caleb Lefaver.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we switched uh microphones here, Mike, so anybody out there listening to the ballgame, please shoot me a text uh if you can hear me.

unknown

Your voice.

SPEAKER_17

Finishing the warm-ups here, and JJ's gonna step in from the right side to try to get things going here for the Crusaders in the top of the first inning. Bottom of the first, I'm sorry.

SPEAKER_04

Number five, the shortstop.

SPEAKER_05

JJ strike one on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_17

Pitch high for ball one. One ball, one strike. Gotta get JJ on to get things going here. There's a pitch. Fouled off at the plate. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, let's be honest. I mean, we go as JJ goes. I mean, JJ gets on the m uh we know we generally have him at second base, Mike, and a lot of times at third.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the wind up and the pitch. Fouls that off into the net, right above the Lewis Central dugout. Count remains one ball, two strikes. Here's the wind up and the pitch. Got him looking for strike three. Out number one for the Crusaders. That'll bring Tommy Carroll to the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, that's that outside strike zone. You know, we made that comment before. We've seen this guy several times this year. He has a wide outside strike zone. Guys are gonna have to come up, they're gonna have to step closer to the plate, and they're gonna have to be aggressive on that outside corner.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the first pitch, Tommy. Fouled off into the net for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

And as any good catcher, this Lewis Central catcher, he spotted it right away. I don't know if you saw where he lined up, Mike. But he was about six inches outside that outside corner.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. Fouled off down the third baseline. So we've got it both ways here. Now let's hit it back up the middle. No balls, two strikes to Tommy. Caleb LaFavor is due up next.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, just a solid year for Tommy Carroll. Fielding, hitting. Uh just a great freshman year, and just a good looking ball player.

SPEAKER_17

Swing and a miss for strike three. First two Crusaders retired on strikeouts. And that will bring K Little a favor to the plate.

SPEAKER_05

You can see where Burroughs stone Mike. I mean, all three pitches on that outside corner. And they spotted this right away.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, Burroughs has struck out 32 this year with an ER ERA of 1.27, so he's a quality pitcher. Here's the first pitch. Outside for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Pitch low for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Caleb gets on. Peyton Erickson would be due up next. Here's the pitch. Bounces in there, gets away from the catcher. Three balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Caleb just having just a great year at the plate. Sees the ball well. We commented last week at uh East. Hasn't missed a beat. He was just pounding the ball.

SPEAKER_17

Burrows looks in, starts the wind up, and here's the pitch. Inside corner for strike one. Three balls, one strike. Burroughs starts his wind up and the pitch. Ball hit between first and second. LaFaver reaches on with a single, and that'll bring Peyton Erickson to the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Peyton got himself going against these Crusaders. Nice catcher. Couple hits out of the right field. Peyton! Erickson.

SPEAKER_17

Peyton will step in here from the right side. Burroughs checks on LeFavor over at first. Here's the wind up in the pitch. That ball hit between short and third. Back-to-back singles for the Crusaders. Runner in scoring position with two outs, and that'll bring Nathan Gaswent to the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Uh has just had an absolute terror when he's up to the up to the plate. He's brought his average all the way up over 300. Mike has been one of our more consistent hitters, so opportunity him for uh for him right here. Bring in some runners.

SPEAKER_17

Cal Geesey, courtesy running for Peyton Erickson over at first base. So we've got a little bit of speed out on the base pass there with Cal. Burroughs takes a long look in here at Gaswent. Checks second base. And here's the pitch. Pitch way outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Dylan Knapp would be due up next.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we got some great situation baseball here, Mike. Favor out there at second base. Gets a great leadoff, very deceivingly fast, especially with those long legs.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch by Burroughs. That's grounded back up the middle, right to the second baseman. He steps on the bag. And that will retire the Crusaders. They get two on, unable to push anybody across. We're going to head to the top of the second. Crusaders trail this one one to nothing. We'll be back here in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_03

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_17

Heading to the top of the second here. Crusaders Trail 1 to nothing. Lewis Central will send Owen Dufeck, Connor Hathaway, and Aidan Buckles to the plate. Reminder, everyone, uniform and use sports drive at Bishop Healan. Drop off your gently used uniforms, that shorts, shirts, skirts, anything that has to do with the uniform and or healing gear. And sports gear to the main office. And on August 12th, it'll be a night where you can come in and you can go through and find stuff. It's absolutely free. That will be between 6 and 7 on August 12th. Here's the first pitch. That pitch in there to Dufic for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, nice job by Dylan Knapp.

unknown

Concentrating getting that strike on it.

SPEAKER_17

That ball bounced out to JJ. It's short. Throw over to first. Gets away from Jonas at first.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I don't know if that was an error on uh JJ or if that was on Jonas, Mike. I couldn't quite see where the throw was from six.

SPEAKER_17

That'll bring Hathaway up. Lewis centralized a runner at second base with no outs here in the top of the second inning. Hathaway steps in here from the right side. Dylan with a long look here. Checks runner back at second base, and here's the first pitch. That pitch outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, there's that slider on the outside corner, Mike. Peyton's recognizing that outside corner as well, sitting out there.

SPEAKER_17

Long look here by Dillon. Checks runner at second base, and here's the pitch. That pitch way outside for ball one. One ball, one strike. Again, we'll be on the air tomorrow night from Denison. Approximately 6.45 pregame and 7 o'clock first pitch. That will all depend on the length of the JV game before. Here's the pitch. Outside corner strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, beautiful fastball on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_17

Dylan is set. Checks the runner back at second base, and here's the pitch. Bounces in there for ball two. Two balls, two strikes. Lewis Central brought a good crowd up here tonight. JV won game their game today, 12-7. They'll end the season tomorrow in Denison. Here's the pitch. Checks his swing. That brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Runner at second base, no outs.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, good slider on the outside corner like that pitch. Almost had him going. He checked his swing. I mean, he was about about one-third of the way there. Just wasn't able to hold it back.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. That pitch fouled back. Count remains. Three balls, two strikes. Brody Applegate is due up next.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, this is a big outing for Dylan. We're gonna need Dylan on the mound somewhere in the playoffs, Mike.

SPEAKER_17

And that pitch hit it hard out the left field. Moravic settles under it for out number one. So Hathaway is retired on the flyout, and that will bring up Aiden Buckles.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we're gonna, like I said, we're gonna need Dylan somewhere.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, absolutely. And like you said, we're gonna we're gonna need all the arms we can get uh when the playoffs start. Dylan checks a runner back at second base, checks him again. Here's a pitch. That pitch over Buckle's head for ball one, one ball, no strikes.

unknown

So hopefully he has a game between the five.

SPEAKER_17

Dylan comes set, checks the runner at second, and here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_05

Beautiful.

SPEAKER_17

In there for strike one. One ball, one strike. If you are at the ballpark, listen to the game. I highly recommend the pork chop on a stick. Kelly Quinn from Soho is down there cooking them up, uh helping raise some money for healing athletics and healing baseball, and they are phenomenal, folks. So if you get a chance, go try it. That pitch outside for ball two, two balls, one strike. Best five dollars you're gonna spend today, I guarantee you. Dylan checks the runner second a couple times. Here's the pitch. It's grounded out to JJ. It's short. Throw over to first in time. Out number two. And that will bring up Brody Applegate.

unknown

Now batting for the Titans. The catcher. Number 18. Yeah, great job.

SPEAKER_05

Great job by uh by Dylan. Getting that second out. This is a huge out right here, Mike.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, you don't want to bring uh Bond up with runners on base. That pitch inside for a ball, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_05

It's actually been a really good inning for Dylan. I mean, other than that, air should have been out of this inning. Been throwing really good pitches.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch by Dylan. And that's behind him. Great job, Peyton, keeping that from getting to the backstop. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, slider. Tried to come on the inside corner with it. He just lost it. He lost a grip and went behind the batter.

SPEAKER_17

Well, he had the inside corner. It was just way inside.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_17

Nice play. Grounded to Dylan. He bobbles it around, throws over. Out number three. That'll retire Lewis Central here in the top of the second inning. We're going to head to the bottom of the second Crusaders Trail one to nothing. We'll talk to you back here in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_03

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_17

Welcome back, heading to the bottom of the second inning. They will send Dylan Knapp, Jackson Vickery, and Mason Moravik to the plate. Good inning there by Dylan. I have him unofficially at 29 pitches, so off to a good start.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, much better than his last two starts, Mike, coming through the first two innings. Really, other than that leadoff double by Lewis Central on the first pitch, he's really throwing a really good game. And nothing more to help his confidence come up here and get uh get a nice single. Dylan, the other guys, 13 for 14 on stolen bases this year.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the first pitch. Oh my goodness, that pitch was in the middle of the left-handed batter's box for a strike. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, the guys, like I said, Mike, they're gonna have to get a little bit closer.

SPEAKER_17

They're gonna have to get a lot closer to get that strike because it is it is way out there, folks.

SPEAKER_05

And is any good pitcher? Uh he's going for it. He he he's recognizing it.

SPEAKER_17

That pitch high for ball two, two balls, one strike. Yeah, the second the first ball was in the almost the exact same spot. Here's pitch. Fouled into the net. Two balls, two strikes.

unknown

Great cut by Dylan.

SPEAKER_05

Dylan's one of those kids, Mike, that a lot of the stuff that he does just doesn't show up on the stat sheet. Great center fielder, makes just great plays that for a lot of kids would be doubles and triples.

SPEAKER_17

Here's pitch. Way outside. Full count. Three balls, two strikes. Again, Dylan can get on and he can manufacture his way around the bases. Let's get this inning off to a good start here. Here's the pitch. Fouls that off out of play. Misses the Lewis Central vans that are parked right out on the street.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Dylan took a step a little bit closer to the plate. I like seeing that. He knows.

SPEAKER_17

Caught looking for strike three. That is the third strike out of the game for Burroughs, and that will bring up Jackson Vickery.

SPEAKER_05

Burroughs doesn't overpower you, Mike. He's just nipping at the decent curveball. Uh likes to throw inside, outside. Doesn't waste a lot of pitches. But as far as velocity goes, probably middle of the road of what we've seen.

SPEAKER_17

That pitch outside for ball one. Yeah, the this velocity we're seeing tonight doesn't come close to uh Bodie Colling on Thursday night. No, that's here's pitch. That pitch hit out into right field. Still a tough play for him. He's looking right into the sun. Even with sunglasses on, struggled a little bit making that catch, and that'll bring up Mason Barovic.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we talked about that before the game, Mike. Right field, first base. That's gonna be trouble tonight. That sun is really bright, and there are not a lot of clouds in the sky tonight.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the wind up by Burroughs in the pitch. Mason hits out into out into right field. Right fielder able to get over and make the play, so the right fielder busy in that inning. Mason first pitch swinging. He flies out to right field for out number three. We're gonna head to the top of the third Crusaders Trail one to nothing, and we'll talk to you back here in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_03

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_17

Beckett Blatchford is out on the mound, and Dylan Knapp moves to center field. And Tommy Carroll heads over to left field. So Bond will step up to face Beckett Blatchford for the first time. He doubled his first time up and has scored the only run for Lewis Central.

SPEAKER_05

Let's get a few of our sponsors in here. Mike, underwriters for Bishop Healing Baseball, Catholic Radio, Bargain Center, Barkley Asphalt, BCU Catholic Connections Scholarship, Bob Rose Point After North End Zone, Bush Dry Cleaners, Catholic Charities, and Central Bank of Sioux City and Storm Lake. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healing Baseball and Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_17

Bond will step in here from the left side. First pitch by Beckett. Outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we've seen Beckett come in and throw some really good innings for us this year, Mike. Usually he's he's good for about two to three innings of strong baseball, and let's hopefully tonight that's what we're gonna probably get out of him. Looks to me like maybe they're doing a committee type thing tonight.

SPEAKER_17

One ball, one strike. Becca takes his time here, starts his windup, and here's the pitch. That has popped out. JJ Hope giving Chase, not able to make it. Tommy Carroll try makes a diving attempt for it, unable to pull it in. So Bond is on for the second time, and that will bring up Caden Neppel. Tough play there for Tommy. He had to go a long way to get that.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he almost had it. It was in his glove, Mike. I think when he hit the ground, it just bounced out. Just a great dive. Nepal. Good chase, that ball just kind of hung up there.

SPEAKER_17

Nepal reached on a fielder's choice his first time up. Beckett checks bond over at first base. Throw over. Back in time. Well, John, I think I know what you'd be doing if you weren't calling baseball tonight. You'd probably be home watching World Cup.

SPEAKER_05

You're absolutely right. You know me, Mike. I love soccer and I love uh the World Cup. Gotta get behind the United States. They're having a great year.

SPEAKER_17

Well, I've got it on my phone, so we can kind of keep up with it as we're watching the game here. Bond with a pretty sizable lead out there at first base. He goes, here's a pitch. Throw down by Peyton.

SPEAKER_05

Got him. Oh!

SPEAKER_17

Just under the tag.

SPEAKER_05

Boy, I tell you what, I thought he had that glove down. So does JJ.

SPEAKER_17

So Bond with the steal. Count as one ball, one strike to Neppel. Runner at second base, no outs.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Bond got a great jump. And uh just amazing that Peyton even had a chance at it.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. That's in there for a strike. One ball, two strikes. Blake Fort is due up next.

SPEAKER_05

Looks like to me that we're we're given the right side of the field here a little bit, Mike. We got second and short.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_05

Beautiful pitch.

SPEAKER_17

Got him. Strikeout looking. Beckett Bladford strikeout on Neppel looking, and that's the first out. That'll bring Blake Fort to the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Nice slider on the inside corner. Snuck that baby in on the blast of the inside.

SPEAKER_17

Ford hit the sacrifice fly out to left field that drove in the lone run so far. That pitch bounces in there for a ball. One ball, no strikes. Drew Heller would be due up next.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Coach Metz for the Lewis Centro. He's aggressive. And he said he's gonna be aggressive, and and they've they've taken off every time they've gotten a guy on first. Wouldn't be surprised to see him take off from second to third as many times as they've tried stealing bases.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, but this the success they've had, I would yeah, I would imagine they're gonna give some shot. Beckett steps off the mound here. I'd like to give a quick shout out. Every ask everybody to keep uh Ann Reed and her family in your prayers. If you would. Ann works at the Catholic Radio Station, uh does a great job keeping things running there, and we appreciate all that she does for John and I and just keep her and her family in your prayers. That pitch bounces in there. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, great job by Kate and blocking that uh fastball on the inside corner, just got uh got away from Beckett, got in the dirt.

SPEAKER_17

Back at long look here, he checks Bond back at second base, and here's the pitch. Just misses three balls, no strikes.

unknown

Bond gets way out there, man.

SPEAKER_05

He he gets a great lead, and gotta give him a second look down there. He's gonna get a great jump.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, he was about halfway to third base by the time Beckett let that pitch go. Here's a pitch. That pitch in there. Inside corner, strike one. Three balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Coach Taylor's coming out. He sees something here. I bet he's, you know, Mike, I bet he saw what we saw, how far uh Bond's getting.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

He's telling Beckett that right now. He's looking back there once and then looking at home, and he's not looking a second time. You gotta be able to freeze that runner. If you don't freeze that runner, you just got free reign out there.

SPEAKER_17

Home play dump parts starting to stroll out that way to break the meeting up. Again, we'll be on from Denison tomorrow night, 6.45 pregame, 7 o'clock first pitch, hopefully. And then Friday we'll bring it to you from East High. We'll follow the East High Black Raiders first round game. So approximately 7 o'clock, 15-minute pregame show before that. Hopefully, it'll be as close to 6.45 and 7 as it can be. Crusaders win that. They would play again on Monday, I believe. And they should host, and that would be at East High as well. So everybody's back where they need to be. Coach is in the dugout, Beckett's on the mound. Looking in for the sign. He comes set. And here's the pitch. That pitch low and ball four. Runners at first and second for Lewis Central, and that will bring Drew Heller to the plate. He was he singled his first time up and was thrown out at home on that great play by Morovic to Peyton Erickson.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, slider by Beckett just on the inside corner. Just missed. Now we got a force out at any base other than home. We can turn the double play here, Mike. Anything on the ground.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the first pitch. Just misses on the inside corner. Ball one. One ball, no strikes.

unknown

Number 20. Yeah, good pet.

SPEAKER_05

Good pitch by Beckett. Inside corner. I thought it might have caught the black, but I mean he's right on the plate. His feet are right on the white of the line on the inside.

SPEAKER_17

Here's a pitch. Bounces in there, ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Pitcher Brody Burroughs is due up next.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, no room for arm. Well we got one open base, but yeah, you don't want to load the bases here and and bring Burrows up.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, Burroughs has 30 RVIs on the season, so throwback. Back in plenty of time.

unknown

I don't mind that play.

SPEAKER_05

You gotta freeze him, you gotta keep him closer to second base. Anything hit in between any of the fielders out in the outfield, he's scoring with the lead that he's got. So take a couple looks back, throw like he just did. Anything you can.

SPEAKER_17

Beckett looks in, and here's the pitch. For out number two.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Jonas come back. Fond come around first or third base and had quite a lead going toward home, and Jonas come back on him. Just about got away from victory.

SPEAKER_17

That'll bring Brody Burroughs to the plate. If we have any Lewis Central parents, fans, family members listening to us, welcome, and we'll do our best to provide you with a good broadcast here. So Burroughs steps in, he's got two runners in scoring position. Chance to really help his cause with the base hit here.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, this is a big out. Force out at any. Excuse me. Guys on second and third. I forgot we got him out of first. Mike almost got ahead of myself here. Guys in second and third, want to keep him off the base pass. Anything we got to keep it in in the infield, got to knock it down. Anything on the infield, we've got to knock down.

SPEAKER_17

Beckett throwing from the full wind up here. Starts his wind up, and here's the pitch. That's lined hard. Right to JJ Hope. Makes a jumping catch out there. And that is gonna retire the side. Two runners in scoring position for Lewis Central, unable to do anything with it. Heading to the bottom of the third Crusaders Trail one to nothing, and we're gonna talk to you here in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_03

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_17

It'll be Chase Beck, JJ Hope, and Tommy Carroll.

SPEAKER_05

Chase Beck kind of really came out of his little bit last week against D set. Really, really nice advantage, Mike.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the first pitch by Burroughs. That ball hit hard.

unknown

That's deep. That's deep.

SPEAKER_17

That is all the way to the fence, folks. Chase is on his horse. He's going to stop at second base. Leadoff double for Chase Beck to get things started for the Crusaders here in the bottom of the third. That'll bring JJ Hope to the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we talked about this out at East. How sometimes these really good pitchers, they're around the plate, and that first pitch is a lot of times the best pitch to hitch. Chase Beck absolutely turned on that. Extremely impressive. I love it.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, hit that to the gap and was able to get it all the way to the wall. JJ steps in. He struck out looking his first time up. Burroughs checks Chase back at second. Here's a pitch. JJ squares as if to bunt, pulls back. Ball one. One ball, no strikes. Tommy Carroll do up next.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, just a solid hitter. JJ's got to really protect that outside corner. Burrows is gonna, that's where he's gonna paint it on. JJ's gonna stay out there.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. JJ Squares bunts that beautifully. Burrows has got to feel that he can't do it cleanly. JJ Hope on with the single. Crusaders runners at first and third with no outs, and that will bring up Tommy Carroll.

SPEAKER_05

That's just that's vintage JJ. I mean, look down third baseman with deep. Tommy Carroll. Put it down where he had to make the pitcher make that play, and from the right, as a right hander coming over there, that's a tough play.

SPEAKER_17

I would imagine that JJ is going to be in motion here at some point. Put some pressure on Burroughs. JJ with a really good lead out there. Here's the first pitch. Throw over to first. JJ back in time.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, this is this is just great. I mean, great chess match between Healing and Lewis Central here. First and third with speed at first.

SPEAKER_17

That pitch just misses for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Now you set up a great hit and run ball. Burls is behind in the count.

SPEAKER_17

Burls with the long look. JJ goes. That ball fouled out of or down the third baseline.

SPEAKER_05

Tommy just missed that. Great swing.

SPEAKER_17

One ball, one strike. JJ would have been in second base safely. He had a good jump and was about three quarters of the way there before the pitch ever left the pitcher's hand.

SPEAKER_05

Well I just love the aggressiveness. I mean you got the hit and run on, and with wheels. I mean, Tommy hits that thing in a gap. We're scoring two runs there.

SPEAKER_17

Burroughs comes set. Here's the pitch. JJ goes again. That pitch on the outside corner for a strike. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Here we go. Now you got to protect the plate. You got to get a little bit closer. Maybe choke up a little bit. You got two guys out there, uh, Mike. Anything in the gap, anything through the infield, we're scoring two.

SPEAKER_17

One ball, two strikes. Runners at second and third with no outs here in the bottom of the third inning. And the pitch. Low and outside. Ball two. Two balls, two strikes. Caleb Lefaver is due up next.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, the hard part about this, Mike, that pitch right there, as far out as it was. I mean, you don't know if he's gonna ring you on that. That's the hard part.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch by Burroughs. Foul into the netting. Count remains, two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, good job, Tommy. Staying active, getting a piece of that thing, making Burroughs work.

SPEAKER_17

Burroughs comes set. Checks both runners. And he's gonna bring it to the plate. Here's a pitch.

unknown

There we go. Nice job.

SPEAKER_17

Tommy Carroll hanging in there. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, good curve ball by Burroughs on the outside corner. Trying to nip at that black on the outside corner. Tommy did a good job staying alive.

SPEAKER_17

Two balls, two strikes, two runners on with no outs for the Crusaders. They currently trail one to nothing. Looking to at least tie the here's a pitch. Hats it out to center field. Yeah, that's gonna score one. That's gonna score one. JJ tags from second. He's on his way to third, and he's in there safely. Beck scores to tie the game one to one. JJ heads down to third base. And Tommy Carroll with the RBI sacrifice brings in run number one for the Crusaders, and that will bring up Caleb Lefaver.

SPEAKER_05

Tommy did his job. I mean he got the ball out in the air. Not very many people can tag from second to third on a ball at medium center field. JJ Holt just did it.

SPEAKER_17

Burrows, here's the pitch. Fouled off by Caleb. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

Inside pitch.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, trying to take that down the first baseline.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, I mean, Caleb's such a good hitter. He's setting them up here. Because he'll come back on the outside corner after that, Mike, which he's setting up right now.

SPEAKER_17

Here's pitch. That pitch is low. One ball, one strike. Peyton Erickson will be due up next. Caleb singled his first time up.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, just it's such a dangerous hitter.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. That's lined out into left right center, and that will bring JJ Hope in from third. Caleb LeFavor with the RBI single. Crusaders take a two-to-one lead, and there's one out with Caleb at first. And that will bring Peyton Erickson to the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, just a great job of inside out inning by Caleb LeFavor, getting the fist to come across that plate, uh, across the plate first, followed by the barrel of the bat. Just great job by Caleb Le Favre.

SPEAKER_17

Peyton singled his first time up. Here's the pitch. Outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Is it me, Mike, or have we been much more aggressive on the first couple pitches in this game?

SPEAKER_17

I think we've been much more aggressive, and it's it's helped.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I mean these guys are taking cuts.

SPEAKER_17

Driving in runs with score with runners in scoring position, which is gonna be crucial. That pitch outside, two balls, no strikes, that's gonna be key the rest of the way for absolutely.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_17

If you've got a chance to score runs, you've got to do them with guys in scoring position. Burrows with a long look, checks Caleb over at first. Here's the pitch. Peyton pops that over toward first base. Into the netting. Two balls, one strike. Nathan Gas went due up next.

SPEAKER_05

Opportunity to score more rounds here. We got one out. Two guys that have been making contact, uh Peyton Erickson and Nathan Gaswin.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch by Burroughs. Lefaver goes. Throw is high up. Into center field. Caleb with the stolen base. Runner in scoring position. Three balls, one strike to Peyton. Again, Nathan Gaswin is due up next.

SPEAKER_05

Here we go now. We got a little chess match. Got Caleb out there in the scoring position. Burrows is a little itchy here. He's a little nervous.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. Fouled back. Brings account full. Three balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Did you see what I see there? Burls isn't even looking at it. Burls is he's coming to a set, Mike. I mean, Caleb could take off here. Watch Burls. He's not looking back at all. I mean Caleb. Let's get a leadoff. I'd take off. He's not looking at all.

SPEAKER_17

Here's a pitch. That pitch high for ball four. Erickson draws the walk, puts runners at first and second with one out, and that'll bring Nathan Gaswin to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Now heading for the Crusaders.

SPEAKER_05

The right fielder. Number 25. Nathan Gaswin. I'm sure Coach Taylor's look, he's down there at third base. He's gotta be seeing that. I would not be surprised to see a hit.

SPEAKER_17

Cal Gee into courtesy run for Peyton so he can get his gear on and keep things moving.

SPEAKER_05

That's just put some serious speed at first base, so anything in the gap.

SPEAKER_17

Burrows with the pitch.

unknown

Good cut.

SPEAKER_17

Fouled back at us for strike one. No balls, one strike. Dylan Knapp is due up next.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Nathan turned on that one. Just missed it.

SPEAKER_17

Belgium up one to nothing, ten minutes into the first half in the World Cup. Checking the runner at second. Burroughs with the pitch. That bounces in there and gets away. Everybody moves up one base, and now we've got two runners in scoring position, second and third with one out. And it is one ball, one strike to Nathan Gaswent.

SPEAKER_05

Nathan's got the ducks on the pond out there, two guys on, guy on second, guy on third. Opportunity to blow this thing open a little bit.

SPEAKER_17

Long look in by Burroughs. Starts his wind up, and here's the pitch. It's on that outside corner. I'll be generous with that call. One ball, two strikes. Here's the wind up in the pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike three. Two outs for the Crusaders here. Two runners in scoring position. That'll bring Dylan Knapp to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Now out of the Crusaders. The center fielder, number 22. Dylan Knapp.

SPEAKER_17

Burroughs throwing from the full wind up here. Here's the wind up and the pitch. Inside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike. Should Dylan get on? Jackson Vickery is due up next.

SPEAKER_05

Well, I'd like to see that bunt down the third base again here, Mike. Third baseman's playing way back. Do a little kind of the suicide squeeze here.

SPEAKER_17

Here's a pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, even with two outs, you'd really catch them off guard.

SPEAKER_17

Dylan steps out. Steps back in, ready to go here. Burrows with the pitch. Outside. One ball, two strikes. Burroughs very deliberate here between pitches.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he's going real slow.

SPEAKER_17

Dillon goes down looking for out number three. But the Crusaders push two runs across in the bottom of the third. We're going to head to the top of the fourth. Crusaders lead two to one. Come back and hear us in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_04

SPEAKER_03

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_17

We're back here for the top of the fourth inning. Crusaders lead this one 2-1. Lewis Central will send Owen Dufic, Connor Hathaway, and Aidan Buckles to the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Christy Smith Funeral Homes, CNOS, Dr. Ryan Meese, Consulok Supply Company, LLC, Culligan, Cybercloak Technology LLC, Dave Pepin Real Estate LLC, Drilling, Morningside Pharmacy, Dunes Dental for Kids, Empirical, FM Wealth Management, Matt Wally, Fuller Brothers, Greenville Pharmacy, Greg and Krista Yoakum, and Gretgen Family ICare. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healand Baseball and Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_17

And thank you, Grace Todd, back in the studio for keeping things rolling back there. So we can stay on the air and bring everybody these Healing baseball games. Blatchford still on the mound. He starts his windup and here's a pitch. High for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, a really good inning. Last inning came in and really settled in.

SPEAKER_17

Dufick reached on an error his first time up. That pitch inside. Two balls, no strikes. And the pitch. Yeah, about the only place left that's got any sun is out in right field.

SPEAKER_05

Looking at Peyton. Peyton playing around with his glove. He might have he didn't break that well.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch by Blatchford. That's lined out to the gap between right and center. That's gonna get all the way to the warning track. He's going for three. Relay in. JJ slips as he turns to make the throw. It would have been a triple anyway. So Dufick in with the leadoff triple. And that will bring Connor Hathaway to the plate. He flew out to left field his first time up.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, just a really nice inside out hitting by Dufek. Takes that ball to right center field, and that thing just rolled and rolled and rolled all the way to the deep part of the field. Relay. JJ wouldn't have had a shot at him. Wisely held up, even though he kind of slipped there a little bit.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, he was three quarters of the way to third base by the time JJ got the ball.

SPEAKER_05

So see what Coach Metz does here. He's been playing pretty aggressive so far. He's got a guy on third base.

SPEAKER_17

Hathaway's gonna step in. Infield playing back. Here's first pitch. Catches that inside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, good inside breaker by Beckett. Looked like it was coming right at the batter and swung in there and caught the black.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. Outside corner for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Aiden Buckles is due up next.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, come back on that inside corner. Now he's leaning over the plate for that outside.

SPEAKER_17

There's the pitch. Drops in front of Tommy out in left field. RBI single for Hathaway. Ties the score at two to two. And that will bring Aiden Buckles to the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, just kind of a curveball that just kind of hung there, Mike. It didn't really do much and got it up in the plate. He was able to turn on that thing and take that out the left field. Good piece of hitting.

SPEAKER_17

Buckles grounded out short to first, his first time up. Pitch fouled off for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

Gotta manufacture something here. We got a guy on first base. Love to see a ground ball here. Get him out of second with a possible turn for a double here.

SPEAKER_17

Hathaways two for two on the season in stolen bases. That pitch bunted beautifully out to Beckett. Throw over to first in time. Sacrifice by Buckles.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, good small ball by Coach Metz there. Now by it for the Titans. Getting their guy down in scoring position now. Crusaders got a buckle down here. Applegate.

SPEAKER_17

Applegate steps in. Grounded out. Pitcher to first, his first time up. One out here in the top of the fourth. Score tied two to two. Bladford trying to keep it at that. Beckett steps off. Gets ready to reset. Checks the runner back at second base. Here's the pitch. Just misses for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, just a little bit low on that pitch. Nice pitch. Just a little bit, you know, about knee high, a little bit lower than the knees, but right where you want it.

SPEAKER_17

Top of the order is due up after this. Here's a pitch. And that left-handed batter's box for strike one. One ball, one strike. Checks the runner back at second base. Checks him again. And deals to the plate. Turned on that. That pitch hit foul. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Gotta get a shout out to Mr. LaFleur, Dan LaFleur out there watching from his vehicle tonight. Uh hope all is good, my friend, and great hit by your grandson in that second inning. Third inning, excuse me.

SPEAKER_17

Applegate steps back in. Back at deep breath out there on the mound. Comes set. Checks the runner at second base. And here's the pitch. Gets away from Peyton. Bounced in there that wild pitch. Two balls, two strikes to Applegate.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, that's that slider. Hit the ground before it got to Peyton. Had a little back spin on it and just went underneath his arm there.

SPEAKER_17

Brooks Bond is due up next. Here's a pitch. He got him for strike three. Applegate strikes out for out number two, and that will bring Brooks Bond to the plate. He has doubled and scored a run and singled.

SPEAKER_05

Brooks on. Yeah, he did a really good job inside out hitting last time, taking that ball to left field. Tommy's playing him a little more shallow this time than he was last at bat. Out in left field, kind of giving him that left field line.

SPEAKER_17

Grounded back to Beckett out there. Throws over to first. In time for out number three. Bonds grounds out pitcher to first. That'll retire the side. Lewis Central brings one run across in their half of the fourth. We are tied two to two, heading to the bottom of the fourth inning. We'll be back here in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_03

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_17

Heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, scores tied two to two. Pitching change for Lewis Central. They brought in Charles Shabin. He is a right hand junior. He's got a record of four and three. He's 34 innings pitched. Teams are hitting 190 against him. He's given up 23 hits, 12 runs, 9 earned, 17 walks. He's hit seven batters and struck out 39 with an ERA of 1.85.

SPEAKER_05

I think all their pitches are under two, Mike. I don't think they have anybody above two. But uh, you know, I it we and it's safe to say we've played a little bit, probably tougher competition. One of the reasons why Lewis Central's coming into our conference, I'm sure from a competition standpoint, it'll just increase their play.

SPEAKER_17

Crusaders will send Vickery, Moravic, and Beck to the plate here to get things started in the bottom of the fourth.

SPEAKER_05

That's going to be trouble.

SPEAKER_17

That's grounded out to the second baseman, throw over to first just in time for out number one. First pitch swinging. Vickery goes down second to first, and that will bring up Mason Moravic who flew out to right field his last time up.

unknown

Now batting for the Crusaders.

SPEAKER_17

Actually, it will be Beckett Blatchford who will be in.

SPEAKER_05

Beckett's uh hitting for himself on this one.

SPEAKER_17

Steps in from the left side. Pitch outside, ball one, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he has a lot more velocity than the last pitcher, so just something to get adjusted to. Gets her a little bit quicker.

SPEAKER_17

That pitch in there for a strike, one ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, nice fastball on the outside corner.

unknown

Oh boy.

SPEAKER_17

Again, if you're at the ballpark and you're hungry, go grab pork chop on a stick. It's amazing. Here's the pitch. Outside corner, strike two. One ball, two strikes.

unknown

I mean, Mike, you're you can't even describe it. That that thing is so juicy. It's one of the best pork chops I've had.

SPEAKER_17

I know what I'm ordering next time I go to Soho. That's for sure. Here's the pitch. Outside corner. Beckett goes down looking for strike strikes out for out number two, and that will bring Chase Beck to the plate. He doubled his first time up and scored a run.

SPEAKER_05

Very aggressive on his last at battery chase. I like seeing that.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. There we go. Foul's that first pitch off for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I just missed. Just underneath it. I like it though. He's up there looking. He's looking to swing.

SPEAKER_17

JJ Hope is due up next. Wind up in the pitch. That's right across there for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Well, he's just rearing back throwing. I haven't seen a curveball yet, Mike. That's throwing nothing but fastballs. Setting up on that outside corner.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike three. Crusaders go quietly in the bottom of the fourth inning. Three up, three down. We're going to head to the top of the fifth. Score tied two to two. We'll be back to visit with you in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_03

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_17

Heading here to the top of the fifth inning, we give a shout out to loyal listener Rob and Roz Cole. Appreciate you guys listening and always being there to listen to Catholic Radio. As we head here to the fifth, Crusaders have a pitching change. Alex Rodriguez is in. He's got a 3-in-1 record, 23 in two third innings. Batting average against him is 250. He's given up 23 hits, 16 runs. 11 of those have been earned, 13 walks. He's hit eight batters and he has struck out 10 with an ERA of 325.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we've gotten some solid innings out of Alex Rodriguez. We've seen him come in and just really do an outstanding job putting out the fire. He's had a couple spot starts, done a really good job. And again, it looks to me like we're pitching by committee tonight. Everybody's getting a couple innings in, it looks like, that uh needs to work and trying to get their get their reps in tonight. Couple more sponsors here for Bishop Healing Baseball. Roz Cove in the Heidman Law Firm, Heidman Family Dentistry. I'm on Communications, JJ Coins and Collectibles, Jimmy Johnson, and Keller Williams real estate agent Tammy Bertrand. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healing Baseball.

SPEAKER_17

Neppel steps in. He reached onto Fielder's choice in the first and struck out looking in the third. He'll be followed by Fort and Heller. That pitch line between short and third for a single. So runner at first base for Lewis Central with no outs. That'll bring Blake Fort to the plate. He walked his last time up and sacrificed to left field his first time up.

SPEAKER_05

And I'm sure true to form here, Mike. Uh coach Matt Matt will be very aggressive on the base path here.

SPEAKER_17

Throw over back in time. The USA has tied Belgium here in the thirtieth minute. It is one to one. Throw over. Back in time.

SPEAKER_05

I like that, eh? Going back over to first base. Two to two ball game here.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. Just misses on the outside corner. Two balls, no strikes. Lewis Central scored one in the first, one in the fourth. Crusaders scored both errors in the bottom of the third. Seven hits for Lewis Central, five for Healan, and Healan has one error. Throw over back in time. And here's the pitch. Outside corner for strike one. One ball, two strikes.

unknown

Yeah, he didn't like that pitch, but I mean, he's been calling it all night, Mike.

SPEAKER_05

And you can't be surprised when he's gonna ring them up. So it's just a good strike tonight. I mean, that's that's where he's calling them, and you gotta come up. Gotta be ready to hit that.

SPEAKER_17

Checks a runner at first. He starts to go and does not. Pitch for a ball. Three balls, one strike. And Belgium just took the lead two to one.

SPEAKER_05

Just like that. That didn't last very long now, did it?

SPEAKER_17

Three balls, one strike. 2-2 score here in the top of the fifth inning. Here's the pitch. It's grounded out to second. Throw over for one. Not in time with the relay.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he got down the line quick. That was a great turn by Beck and JJ O.

SPEAKER_17

So Fort reaches on the fielder's choice. And that will bring Heller to the plate. He singled his first time up, thrown out at home, trying to score, and grounded out unassisted to first base his last time up.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, one thing about Lewis Central, they got some speed. They get down the line quick.

SPEAKER_17

Throw over.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, they're looking to hit and run here. He's got a huge lead over there at first.

SPEAKER_17

He goes. Throw down. Peyton bobbled it just a little bit, trying to get it out of his glove. I think he would have had him if he hadn't done that.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he had uh that cost him about a half a second, and that's all you need.

SPEAKER_17

That first pitch was in there for a strike, so no balls, one strike. Runner at second base with one out here in the top of the fifth. We are tied two to two.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, this changes things. Now you got a guy in scoring position, so you gotta be knocking things out. Anything reachable in the infield, you've got to knock it down.

SPEAKER_17

That pitch in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

unknown

Yeah, great curve ball by Alex on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_17

Strikeout here would be huge. Arod toes the rubber and looks in. Checks the runner at second and deals to the plate. Swing and a miss, strike three.

SPEAKER_05

That's a huge out, huge out by Alex Rodriguez.

SPEAKER_17

Out number two for Lewis Central here in the top of the fifth. That'll bring Brody Burrows to the plate.

unknown

Number 16, Brody Burroughs.

SPEAKER_17

He singled and lined out to JJ Hope at short, his two times up.

SPEAKER_05

363 hitter. Makes good contact.

SPEAKER_17

Let's hit down to Jonas at first. Great job over there. First base unassisted for out number three. Lewis Central strands a runner in scoring position. We're going to go to the bottom of the fifth. We're tied two to two. Come back and visit us in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_03

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_17

Bottom of the fifth inning here at Bishop Mueller Field. Be JJ Hope, Tommy Carroll, and Caleb LeFavor.

SPEAKER_05

What about our helper here, Noah LaFavor, Mike?

SPEAKER_17

Noah's back?

unknown

Yeah, Noah's back. Getting a lot of help from Noah up here.

SPEAKER_17

JJ struck out looking his first time up, singled, and scored a run. That pitch high for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, just a tough out. JJ, JJ Hope is just a tough out.

SPEAKER_17

That's popped out into right field. Right fielder is able to settle under it for out number one. And that will bring Tommy Carroll to the plate. He struck out and sacrifice fly to center field is two times up.

SPEAKER_04

Left fielder.

SPEAKER_05

Huge piece of hitting by Tommy Carroll the last time, getting that sacrifice fly.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the first pitch. Grounded foul down the third baseline. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

First pitch. Every batter. I mean, he's he's coming with it. He's not he's not trying to fool you.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. Way outside. One ball, one strike. Again, we're here in the bottom of the fifth. Crusaders and Lewis Central tide two to two. Here's the pitch. Fouled back. One ball, two strikes. Okay little favor, do up next. Here's the pitch. Inside. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, that's that slider on the inside corner. We don't see him throw it that often. Like to throw that fastball inside and out, working east to west.

SPEAKER_17

Wind up in the pitch. That's inside for ball three. Three balls, two strikes.

unknown

Here we go. Here we go.

SPEAKER_05

Just gotta protect the plate here.

SPEAKER_17

That pitch way inside for ball four. Carroll draws the walk, he'll trot down to first base, and that'll bring Caleb LeFavor to the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, they're gonna give they're gonna give Caleb that gap between left and center. Caleb LaFaver! Probably play him more to pull, and and you and I know if you're doing a legitimate spray chart on Caleb, you really you gotta play him straight up because you can put it anywhere.

SPEAKER_17

Absolutely. Caleb, of course, was at the MLB combine a couple weeks ago, and the draft is this Saturday and Sunday, so keep an eye on that and see where Caleb may end up. First pitch on the outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike. Exciting time ahead for him and his family, and I'm sure they're gonna have some tough decisions to make here in the next couple weeks.

SPEAKER_05

Just a great opportunity for Caleb and his family.

SPEAKER_17

Checker the runner. Here's a pitch. That's inside, gets away from the catcher. He's having a hard time finding it. Carroll. Big turnaround second base. Wisely decides to go back. Tommy Carroll down at second base. There's one out here in the bottom of the fifth. We're tied two to two. Caleb LaFaver at the plate with the chance to drive in the go-ahead run.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, that's just a huge, huge gift from Lewis Central. Get that ball in the dirt. Tommy gets down to second in scoring position. Changes everything here.

SPEAKER_17

Caleb calls time and steps out. Now he's back in, ready to go. Shaven checks a runner at second base. Here's the pitch. Way outside. Two balls, one strike. Peyton Erickson do up next. Peyton is singled and reached on a walk his two times up. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, really good cut by Caleb there.

SPEAKER_17

Shabin looks in here. Two balls, two strikes on Caleb. Long look in here. Checks Carroll back at second base. And here's the pitch. Carroll advances to third base, and that will bring Peyton Erickson to the plate. Chance to drive in a run.

SPEAKER_05

He really turned on that, Mike. Just missed it. Hit it right to the second baseman. But again, everything he's been hitting has just been right off the barrel.

SPEAKER_17

Just had the misfortune of hitting it right out of him most of the time.

SPEAKER_05

Yep, absolutely.

unknown

That's better.

SPEAKER_17

Shaven checks. Carroll at third. Peyton fouls that back into the net. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, really good cut by Peyton. Been seeing the ball a lot better at the plate.

SPEAKER_17

Base hit here would give the Crusaders the lead. Here's the pitch. Way outside. One ball, one strike, two outs. Runner at third base. We're tied two to two in the bottom of the fifth inning.

SPEAKER_05

He's got that slider he likes to throw, but can't throw it for a strike, so you just got to really sit on that fastball.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. That pitch is high for ball two. Two balls, one strike. Again, the Crusader baseball JV and Varsity will head to Denison tomorrow night. We'll bring you the Varsity game right around 7 o'clock. Grounded out to the shortstop. Throw over to first. Erickson retired short to third, and that will retire the Crusaders in the bottom of the fifth. We're going to head to the top of the sixth inning. We are still tied two to two. We'll visit with you in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_03

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_17

Top of the sixth inning for the Crusaders or for Lewis Central. They will send Dufik, Hathaway, and Buckles to the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Alex threw a really good game. Mike just beautiful. I'm sure Coach just trying to get some really good quality innings out of these guys going into the playoffs. And Alex threw a really good one last one. So let's see if we can get another one out of him.

SPEAKER_17

Yep, we're here in the top of the six. We're tied two to two. And Dufic is going to step in. He reached on an error his first time up and tripled his last time up and scored the second run for Lewis Central.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Dufic's just a really dangerous hitter. Somebody we really got to pay attention to. He gets on a lot like Bond. And they do this on purpose. They put him toward the bottom of the order. 24 of 25 stealing coming into the tonight, so you really got to keep him off the bases.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the first pitch by Arod. Pitch high for ball one.

SPEAKER_05

One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_17

Wind up in the pitch. There we go. Drops that one in there for a strike. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

Painted that outside corner. Back-to-back sliders for Rodriguez.

SPEAKER_17

Wind up in the pitch. Two balls, one strike. Here he comes to the plate. Just a little up. Just a little up and in. Just misses inside. Three balls, one strike. Hathaway due up next.

unknown

He's got to keep in the show.

SPEAKER_17

Here's a pitch. That pitch has popped up. Peyton back to make a play.

SPEAKER_05

And he does it the net for out number one. That's how you do it, boys. Right there. Get rid of that helmet. Find the ball. Find the fence. And just stay your position. He couldn't do it any more perfect than Peyton just did it right there.

SPEAKER_17

No, and I don't think I don't think Peyton was too worried about the fence or the wall. If he had to run through it to get it, he would. That's just his mentality.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he's he's he's fun to watch. He's just fun to watch. And and I've just been blessed all season long to be able to watch this. Just fundamentally the probably the best I've seen all year.

SPEAKER_17

Hathaway steps in, he's flown out the left field and singled his two times up. First pitch in there for a ball, one ball, no strikes. Arod with the long look, starts his wind up, and here's the pitch. Beautiful. That drops in there for strike one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he's really got his curveball working good, Mike. He's he's hitting that corner, going inside, outside.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch by A-Rod. Drops that one in there for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Aiden Buckles is due up next.

unknown

That's correct.

SPEAKER_17

A Rod with the wind up in the pitch. That's grounded out to JJ. It's short, fields it, throw over to first, in time for out number two. Hathaway retired for the second out, and that will bring Buckles to the plate. He grounded out short to first and sacrifice his two times up.

SPEAKER_05

Great play by JJ Hope and great stretch by Jonas over there. Jonas just playing a heck of first base tonight.

SPEAKER_17

And I don't know that too many people were more happy to hear that JJ's just a junior than I was last year or last week when I asked him that question. Well hey, Rod likes to drop that pitch in there, let me tell you. But no balls, one strike. I you should have asked me. Well, I know, Cliff. Mr. Claven, I should have asked you. You'd have known. Here's pitch. That's lined out to Tommy Carroll and left. Diving catch. For out number three. So Lewis Central goes in order. In the top of the six. We're going to head to the bottom of the six. Score tied two to two. Come back, folks. We need you to end this game. Let's go.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we need to really manufacture a run here, Mike. Get a run, get down there in the top of the seventh, and just finish this game off.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the windup in the pitch. Good cut. Swing and a miss, strike one. No balls, one strike. Just a great cut right there. Just missed it. Nathan struck out his last time up. Here's the pitch. That's it out towards second. Thought he was going to bottle it there for a second. Makes the play over to first. For out number one, and that will bring up Dylan Knapp. He has struck out looking his two times up tonight.

SPEAKER_05

Well, I'd love to see some back-to-back double here between him and Chase Beck. Or is that Vickery and Vickery's?

SPEAKER_17

Vickery's.

unknown

Dylan Knapp.

SPEAKER_17

Let's just get Dylan in scoring position and see what we can do with Vickery and Blatchford coming up. Here's the wind up in the pitch. He squares to Bunt. Pitch way inside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_05

I like the idea. Third baseman was playing back. Now you got to got him moving up. He's a little itchy over there now.

SPEAKER_17

Wind up in the pitch to Dylan. In there for strike one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Shaven likes to work fast, likes to throw that fastball, kind of like throw that curveball for a waist pitch.

SPEAKER_17

Dylan bunts that foul down the third baseline. Brings the count to one ball, two strikes. One out here in the bottom of the six. We're tied two to two. Dylan steps back in. Here's the wind up in the pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike three. Two outs for Healen here in the bottom of the sixth inning. That's going to bring Jackson Vickery to the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, slider by Shaven on the outside corner. Really got Dillon fishing for that ball. Just a good pitch. Here we go, two outs. Let's get this thing started with two outs, Mike.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the first pitch. Outside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike. Should we need the bottom of the seventh, the Crusaders would bring up the top of the order. Pitch outside. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Shaven's just rearing back. He's just throwing fastballs, throwing heat. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_17

Just misses. Two and one. Blatchford is due up next.

SPEAKER_05

Actually, it'd probably be A Rod with A-Rod in the game. Yep, A-Rod is on deck.

SPEAKER_17

I was gonna call that a strike, but the catcher couldn't hold on to it, so now it's three balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

Boy that I mean you just gotta come up there. You gotta come up knowing that he's got that the potential of him throwing that pitch on the outside corner, and he's gonna call it for a strike like that.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. Inside corner for strike two. Brings the count full to victory. Rodriguez is due up next. Going inside. Shaven with the pitch. Got him looking for strike three. Crusaders retired in order in their half of the sixth. We're gonna head to the top of the seventh, all tied. Two to two. We'll bring you the end of this one in 60 seconds.

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_17

Caleb LaFaver out on the mound for the Crusaders here as we head to the top of the seventh. Looks like be a pinch hitter possibly for Lewis Central. Looks like it'll be Ethan Helms stepping in. He's got a 314 batting average on the season.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, good chance for us to see Caleb here a little bit tonight. We haven't uh got a chance to see him pitch too much over the last couple weeks, and chance for him to come in at the beginning of the inning and and uh throw to a few batters. I'm sure they're trying to get one or two innings out of him tonight. Um get him ready and also get him some reps before the draft.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, came in uh Thursday night against East. Yeah. In the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded and got what he needed. He got a ground ball down in the first baseman, but the throw home was just not in time.

SPEAKER_05

So yeah, there's a chance for him to get some pitches in. Let's uh a few more of our sponsors here, Mike. Heinman Family Dentistry, Cruz Financial Group, Lawler Fixtures, Liberty National Bank, Lightform, Modern Day Parish, McClintock Insurance, Meyer Brother Funeral Home, Mills Shellhammer Pitts, Missouri Valley Land and Cattle, Mollett Industrial Group, My Jeweler, and Myra Favor State Farm Agent. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healing Baseball and Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_17

Well, this is the game we hoped for and the game we expected between these two teams. Can't ask for more. We're tied two to two with starting the seventh inning here, and Ethan Helm will step in, pinch hitter. Here's first pitch. He fouls that out of play for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, that's a good start for Caleb throwing that first pitch strike on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_17

Brooks Bond and Caden Neppel. Next two do up. Here's the pitch. That pitch high. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

That's that curve ball. Just uh just didn't get snap on it. A little bit high on the inside corner.

SPEAKER_17

Wind up in the pitch. That's in there, strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, LaFaver coming in here with a point three two ERA, Mike.

SPEAKER_17

Swinging a miss, strike three. Out number one. That'll bring Brooks Bond to the plate. He doubled and scored a run. He singled and grounded out pitcher to first is three times up.

SPEAKER_05

That's just huge. Seeing that first batter for Caleb and the way he threw there, very encouraging. Hitting his corners, hitting his spots, inside out.

SPEAKER_17

First pitch. Outside ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he likes to throw that slider for a strike. I'd love to see him come back with it.

SPEAKER_17

Inside ball two. Two balls, no strikes. That's hit hard out to right field. Up against the fence. Gasland feels it. Just not able to set himself. So Bond with the triple. He's down at third base with the go-ahead as the go-ahead run. And that will bring Caden Neppel to the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Bond just really turned on that ball, got it over Caleb's head. Legit triple. Great play by uh Gaswin on the throw, but uh just not enough time to get Bond at third base. It's gonna have to really settle down here.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. Inside for ball one, one ball, no strikes. That had some heat on it. That had some heat. Up and in. Here's the pitch. High for ball two. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Caleb's got a bear down here. Anything on the ground, bonds coming. I mean, there's no no question. He's gonna be aggressive.

SPEAKER_17

There's a pitch by Caleb. And that hits him. That'll put runners at first and third with one out. And that will bring Blake Fort to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Now batting for the Titans, the first baseman. Number one, Blake.

SPEAKER_05

Got a force out of second base here, Mike. And infield's got to come in. We're gonna play the play at home, looks like.

SPEAKER_17

Important to keep that ball in front of Peyton out here. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_05

Let's see how aggressive Coach Metz is here with the runner on first base.

SPEAKER_17

He's gonna send him right away. There he goes. First pitch outside, ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Caleb's release just a little bit high there.

SPEAKER_17

Runners at second and third with one out. Score tied two to two. That pitch misses. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he's right on top of the line. There's no way he's gonna be able to hit that inside corner, Mike.

SPEAKER_17

Caleb steps off. Now we're ready to go again.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Port's just he's hugging that line on the inside corner.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. In there for a strike. Two balls, one strike. Drew Heller would be due up next. Here's the pitch. High for ball three. Three balls, one strike. Lind up in the pitch. That pitch is fouled off. Brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Runners at second and third with one out. We're tied two to two.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, good pitch on the outside corner. Fastball. Got an open base at first base, so.

SPEAKER_17

Caleb starts his wind up. Here's the pitch. Outside. He walks him. That'll load the bases. Bases loaded with one out here in the top of the seventh. Score tied two to two, and that will bring Drew Heller to the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Now Peyton going out here talking to Caleb. You've got bases loaded. You got force out at any base. Anything in the infield, you're coming home. Infield's playing in. This is a huge out here because you get him, and then we can go back to regular depth on the infield with force out at any base.

SPEAKER_17

Wind up in the pitch. That's tapped out toward Caleb. No place to play. Bond will score from third. It's now three to two Lewis Central, and the bases are still loaded with no outs. Yeah, he just with one out, I'm sorry.

SPEAKER_05

Just tapped that thing up in the air. It's almost like a bump, Mike. Didn't go very far, and Caleb just didn't have play.

SPEAKER_04

Number 16, Burroughs.

SPEAKER_17

Burroughs steps in here with the bases loaded and one out. Here's first pitch. High for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Caleb's got a row back. He's got to come after Burroughs here.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike one. One ball, one strike. Owen Dufik is due up next. Caleb starts to wind up. There's a pitch. Just misses outside. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

And we don't have any room for him here, so he's really got to come after him here. Force out at any base. Infield's in.

SPEAKER_17

We'll take that strike. Two balls, two strikes. One out. Base is loaded. Lewis Central has pushed one across here in the top of the seventh. They lead three to two. Here's a pitch. Foul back. Count remains. Two and two.

SPEAKER_05

Here we go. We get the chess match going on. We got infield in.

SPEAKER_17

Burroughs steps out. Now he's back in, ready to go. Caleb starts his wind up in the pitch. Just fouled off. Stuck his bat out and got a piece of it to keep the count at two and two.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, beautiful slider on the outside corner, Mike. He just stuck his bat out, uh remained alive here.

SPEAKER_17

Wind up and the pitch. Hit out to JJ. It's short. Beautiful play. Throw home for one. Got the lead runner.

SPEAKER_05

Great job by Peyton. That ball's in the dirt. He he digs it up, keeps foot on the plate. That makes two outs. Now our guys can go back to regular distance. Now you got to force out at any base.

SPEAKER_17

Base is still loaded with Titans. Two outs here in the top of the seventh. Crusaders trail this one. Swing and a miss or fouled off. Strike one. Crusaders trail this one three to two. Again. In the bottom of the seventh. Crusaders will send Rodriguez. Well, it's hard to tell if it'll be Rodriguez or not. We know it'll be Beck and Hope. That pitch breaks in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, beautiful slider. Kept it a little bit up in the zone. Caught that outside corner for a strike.

SPEAKER_17

Caleb starts his wind up, and here's the pitch. There you go. Good morning, good afternoon, and good night. Strikeout looking for out number three. Lewis Central pushes one across in the top of the seventh. We're going to head to the bottom of the seventh, folks. It's a 3-2 game. Don't go away. Come back and do whatever you have to do to pull the Crusaders through in this one.

SPEAKER_03

And now back to your Crusaders courts on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_17

Mason Morobic will get things started here for the Crusaders in the bottom of the seventh. I'm Mike Skaggs, joined by John Tritz. Bottom of the seventh inning, Crusaders trail 3-2. Need one to extend it, two to win it.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, this is it right here, Mike. Here's first pitch to Mason.

SPEAKER_17

Good swing by Mason. Fouls that pitch off. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

What a great game. I mean, a gem out here. 3-2 ball game going into the bottom of the seventh. Lewis Central put one across in that top of the seventh. Take the lead here.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch by Shabin. Fouled off again. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he's just rearing back, throwing. Trying to hit the corners.

SPEAKER_17

Mason steps back in. Shabin working quickly as he has the entire time he's been in there. Here's the windup in the pitch. That pitch high for ball one. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he just comes right after you, Mike, and just got to be aggressive at the plate and got to protect. Going on that outside corner here.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. Way outside corner for strike three. Caught looking. Moravic goes down. One down. That'll bring Chase back to the plate. He has doubled and scored a run and struck out.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, that's the thing though. You got to come up and you got to protect that outside corner because he's calling it and he's he's giving six, seven inches. And it it's been a strike all night.

SPEAKER_17

There's the first pitch. Swinging amiss, strike one. No balls, one strike. Good cut by Chase.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, they're playing him to pull here. Center fielders moving over.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. Inside. One ball, one strike. JJ Hope is due up next. Crusaders have two outs to play with here. Here's the pitch. That pitch is low for ball two. Two balls, one strike. Chase with a really well-placed double in the third inning. Get things started. Just missed that one. Fouls that pitch back. Two and two. Yeah, just missed.

SPEAKER_05

Good cut. Yeah, you got to get up there. You've got to protect that outside corner because that's where they're going to go because he's calling it. That's where he's setting up.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. Yep. Yep, outside corner. Strikeout looking for out number two. Crusaders down to their final out. JJ Hope will step in.

unknown

Now that in for the Crusaders.

SPEAKER_17

To try to keep this game going for the Crusaders.

unknown

JJ Hope.

SPEAKER_05

Here we go. Down to the last out. Top of the order. Gonna have to do it here, Mike.

SPEAKER_17

Here's first pitch. Inside, ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_05

Shabin just setting him up. He came way in on that thing. He's gonna come back on the outside corner, trying to get JJ a little bit off the plate.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch. That's hit out into right field. JJ takes a wide turn at first. Holds up there. So the Crusaders still alive. Two outs here in the bottom of the seventh. Tommy Carroll steps in. Let's do this thing with two.

SPEAKER_05

Let's do this thing with two. We've we've done it before. We've seen it. Tommy's just got to got to do his job and keep the inning going.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, let's let's at least get one. That way, if we have to end it, we end it in a tie. Not a loss.

SPEAKER_05

That's right.

SPEAKER_17

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_05

That's gonna end it, boys. Oh, he's bobbling.

SPEAKER_17

Tommy grounded it back to the pitcher who bobbled it, able to throw over to first for out number three, and that will end. The game. The Crusaders dropped this one three to two, but there were some positives. They got some good pitching performance by three or four pitchers tonight.

SPEAKER_05

Great game. I mean, you you played the 10th ranked team in 4A, uh, Lewis Central. They're 28 and 5 coming into the game, 29 and 5 now. They threw two guys that uh two of their better pitchers. Um they just had some timely hitting there in the seventh inning, got the triple from Bond, and that was the difference in the game.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, we talked early on how how important it was to keep Bond off the base pass. And uh good hitter and and dangerous out there on the base pass, and he showed that with that uh huge triple to to lead off the seventh inning.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he's legit. I mean he's a five hundred hitter coming into the game, Mike, and he's legit. He had three hits tonight, tagged the ball twice, um, got the triple to start the seventh inning, and and they're a good team. They're a really good team, and and so is Healing. I mean, 3-2 against this team, this was a great game, and like like we talked, we got uh three pitchers, two innings each, and we got Caleb Lefavre, we got him an inning in, so they all got work tonight going into the playoffs, and that was the main thing tonight.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, that's gonna be key. Pitching is gonna be the key for this team uh as they continue down the road here. Uh Crusaders lose this one three to two. They drop to 23 and 15 on the season, uh, getting ready to head into the playoffs. Uh they've lost four of their last six. So, I mean, morale-wise, tomorrow night is a really huge game.

SPEAKER_05

Tomorrow night's a huge game.

SPEAKER_17

Very important for the Crusaders to good performance and and find a way to get that win and and head into the playoffs on a winning note and and not with a little bit of a uh stretch of not being able to win games.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, that's uh like we said, you know, we had a little bit more timely hitting in the early part of the game and then kind of it got away from us. We had one good inning in the looks like the third inning, I think, was when we scored the two runs, right, Mike? And then we just couldn't put anything together after that. I mean, we had a couple guys on, but but we couldn't get those hits after we had them on.

SPEAKER_17

Not yeah, not able to do anything with it. Uh again, that's been the Achilles heel for these guys the last three or four weeks. And uh hopefully they can get it corrected because uh I know people are getting tired of hearing us say it, but they're gonna have to find a way to get those runners in scoring position in when we get to the playoffs. You know, Friday it may not be a big deal, but hey, you play you that's why you play the game. Anybody can beat anybody, and I I don't want to act like they can just show up on Friday and win. They're gonna play a Storm Lake team that you know they're gonna come in and want to prove something, and they're gonna be hungry, and they'd love nothing more than to shock the you know the Healing fans in the state by knocking off the Crusaders. Uh so they're gonna need they're gonna need to play their best uh starting tomorrow night and all the way forward.

SPEAKER_05

That's a huge game tomorrow night. It really is.

SPEAKER_17

It's important. Uh John and I are gonna go home and get some rest because we're gonna make the trip to Denison tomorrow. Again, the JV plays at five. Varsity is scheduled for seven. We'd like to tell you we'll be on at 6.45 with 7 o'clock first pitch, but uh baseball does not always run on a clock, especially at this level. If you're in college or the pros and they've got the clock, but uh we'll do our best to be as close as we can. I wish there was a way we could update you as things are going along, but I know Grace will be back in the studio, and just as soon as we can get going tomorrow, uh we'll get going. We'll have some tidbits of information, and maybe John and I will go early and we'll do a restaurant review of someplace down in Denison that that we can we can share with everybody. So appreciate everybody listening again. Uh keep Ann Reed's family in your prayers, uh keep Emily and Jeff Napton in your prayers. Anyone you know that that needs a prayer, just say it for them and let's keep everybody healthy and happy and let's move forward. And we will be back with you tomorrow from Dennison. Everybody have a great evening, and we'll talk to you tomorrow.

SPEAKER_05

Thank you, Mike.
