We now send you straight to the action on your Catholic Radio Station, channel 88.1 FM, KFHC Ponka Su City, K-O-I-A, Storm Lake.

SPEAKER_07

Welcome everybody to Crusader Baseball. I am Mike Skaggs, joined by John Tritz, and we're out here at East High on a nice sunny day, and we're on the opposite side of the field from the last time we were out here when Healand faced East. So the sun's beating down on our back, and it's going to be a little bit of a warm one for a while, John.

SPEAKER_04

It's going to be it's it's a hot one, and it's going to be even hotter on that field turf. Uh, for those of you that don't know, East High's got a brand new infield here, and uh it's field turf, so it's got the plastic on the top basically. So it's about 10 degrees, probably hotter coming off that uh astro turf, so to speak, uh, than it is on natural grass. So it's gonna be a hot one, Mike. I agree. Astro turf, good one, John.

SPEAKER_14

That goes way back to week, but our kids.

SPEAKER_07

Uh yeah, we sorry we're on a little bit later than we thought. The first game between uh East High Black Raiders and the West Wolverines ran just a little bit longer. West jumped out to a one-on-one lead uh until the bottom of the third when the East Bats started to kick in. They scored three in that inning, and then in the bottom of the fifth, they were able to score eight runs to run rule west and and end the Wolverine season. And uh wasn't the way that West wanted it to end, but you know, we watched them four times this year, and West was a good ball club. They've got some good young kids, and I think they're gonna get better as as as the years go by.

SPEAKER_04

And let's make no bones about it. They came out and battled, yeah. They had the lead through two innings, one to nothing, and it was only a three-to-one ball game going into the fifth inning, Mike. Yeah, I walked up.

SPEAKER_07

I went grabbed something to eat, and I walked up, and it was one to nothing in the top of the third, and I was like, what is going on here? But yeah, they so congratulations to West. Great job, great uh great showing, even though they uh lost 11 to 1, but uh they came out and they battled like John said.

SPEAKER_04

They did, and congratulations to East, they'll move on and play next Wednesday night. Uh good luck to them in the in the 4ay uh districts as they go on. This is gonna be a good ball game, Mike. We're didn't exactly get being a number two seed a lot of favors because Storm Lakes comes in here 12-1 and they won their conference, the Lakes conference, with a I think a 10-2 record, if I'm not mistaken. Uh good ball club. They're gonna throw their ace at us tonight, Mike. He's 4-2 with a 2.38 ERA. Uh we're gonna see some good pitching tonight, and as we should. And uh it's gonna be a tough game. It's not gonna be a cakewalk by any means.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, it's it's that time of the year where you're gonna get the best uh of everybody that you're gonna face, and we've seen a lot of good pitching here in the last couple weeks. So it's not anything new to the Crusaders to face some quality pitching. And yeah, Brock Edwards, he's got eight starts, he's got a four-and-two record. He's pitched 46 innings, teams are batting 171 against him. He's given up 37 hits, uh, 26 runs, only 15 of those have been earned. Uh does have a control, a little bit of a control issue. He's walked 19 and hit 14. He can pitch for us.

SPEAKER_04

He can we I don't think he's hit our numbers, but yeah, he can definitely pitch for us.

SPEAKER_07

And uh 66 strikeouts with an ERA of 228, like John said. So 66 strikeouts and 46 innings is uh by my calculations with the public school education, that's pretty good.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, almost 1.5. I think I did it in my head. 1.5. Anyway, he's gonna be a tough one. And but let's look at the Crusaders. Uh, we needed a game, Mike Mike, to get us kind of jump started. We had two really good games. We were really disappointed that we lost to Lewis Central after we saw a really good pitching performance by Nathan Gaswent that night. We had opportunities to win that ball game. We didn't, but a high-ranked 4-A team that's gonna give everybody fits in their district. So that was a good game. Then we turned around, went down to Denison, and finally the thing that we've been talking about that we needed to see Healing do, they did. They've got guys in scoring position and finished. And folks, this time of the year, it doesn't matter what your record is, you want to get hot at the end of the year. We had a really good game at Denison. We finished, we we knocked guys in, we had guys at the bottom of the order that were just ripping the ball. Uh, even when they weren't hits, they were hard hits. So that's got to be encouraging and exciting for the Crusaders going into tonight.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, absolutely. Chase Beck had his first first home run of the season, and I know Grandpa LaFleur wasn't there for that, so maybe he needs to stay away so so Chase can rip the cover off the ball. But uh no, like you said, Tuesday night was you know a fun game. Healing got they did get behind. They they scored a run to take the lead, then they got a couple runs behind, and then they just uh you know the bats came to life. It was the top and the bottom. Uh we were getting guys on, and uh something we got to get back to is when JJ gets on, he he needs to manufacture his way around the bases. Yeah. And Dylan needs to get back to that too. Dylan did a lot of that earlier in the year where he'd walker get a single, and three pitches later he's standing over on third base, and then a pass ball or a base hit, and Dylan scores. So we're gonna need some of that as as we go down the road.

SPEAKER_04

I totally agree with you. And and uh we've talked about our guys. Uh let's let's just talk a little bit, Mike, real quick, while they're out there taking infield. We look at our infield and we've got speed all the way around. Uh with JJ Hope, Chase Beck. Uh is that Jonas at first? I've been in Victory at third. Solid infield, outfield. I'd put our outfield against anybody's uh Carroll, Knapp, and Gas went out there, especially with the arms. Uh we've seen several guys thrown out at third and home over the course of this year uh with these guys.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, and and uh Nathan showed his arm up in Lamar's when he was out in the far right field corner and threw a dart to third base that uh had the runner from our perspective, but umpire said the tag was a little high.

SPEAKER_04

So uh let's let's let's talk about our catcher. We've talked about him all year. He got hot with the bat again on against Dennison and and fundamentally, Mike, uh I I it's hard pressed to find anybody that I've seen this year fundamentally as good as him.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, he is he's been really solid. And based on the timing of this question, you're probably gonna know the answer. But who do you think leads this team in RBI's? It's probably Peyton Erickson. Peyton Ericsson, he's got the only one. He's actually tied with Brody, but since Brody's out, um, you know, it was yeah, I saw that today. I was like, wow, that's been a quiet move up the ladder for him and and uh to to get to that position.

SPEAKER_04

So and anything you can, you know that old saying, anything you get out of the catcher from from the batting part of it, that's all bonus, right? No one knows that better than John Tripps, who played catcher for a hundred years. Oh yeah, you get all bonus when you get out when you get production out of a catcher. But uh I'm excited about tonight. And guess what? We're gonna see uh for the first time in quite a while. I'm trying to think back when the last time Caleb LeFavor started a game, we're gonna see Caleb on the mound to begin the game tonight.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I uh I had I had the wrong information earlier in the day. I highlighted the wrong guy, but I did too. Uh Caleb Le Favor is gonna come in. He started three games, he's got a record of two and one. He's pitched 22 and two thirds innings. Teams are hitting 0.089 against Caleb. He's given up three runs, two of those earned. He's walked five and hit six. He has struck out 32 and has a.62 ERA. So when he's on, he's on, and and uh, you know, last couple times we've seen him, he's come in a little rusty. I mean, he came in against the East bases were loaded, it was a tough situation. He got what he needed, he got the ground ball to first base, but the throw home wasn't in time. Uh and healing lost that first game uh to East that they very easily could have won.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, and and you're right, Mike, that's a perfect word to use. Uh, and you and I talked about it on the way down to, or on the way back from Denison, or on the way down, I don't remember, but but we were talking about it, it really is. It's just it's just he hasn't seen live batters. So Rusty's probably a good word for that because uh b because he hasn't uh seen live batters for probably a month. So this will be huge for him to get up here throw. He's got of course we got the draft coming this weekend, and we'll know Caleb's uh fate here probably by Sunday, I'm guessing.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, big uh big weekend for the LeFaver family uh as he awaits uh hopefully a phone call and uh from a major league team, and and then his family will have some very tough decisions to make. Uh Caleb does come into this game, according to Iowa baseball, is the top pitcher in 3A in the state. And Dylan, as he has been, I mean not Dylan, JJ, as he has been for the last few weeks, he comes in as the number five ranked infielder, not just shortstop, but infielder. So I'll let you do the math on that, John. There's you know five positions in the infield, and uh he's in the top five, and there's a lot of three A schools. So uh JJ uh awesome. We love watching him play, and we've got him for another year, as I learned last week, so that's big.

SPEAKER_04

We've got a young man that just walked by, my neighbor, and wanted to say we congratulated your West High Wolverines earlier. He played a really good game, left it all on the field, and and we're real proud of the West uh team tonight. So good job, Lane. Nice job, young man. Yep. Thanks for stopping by.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah. Let's go ahead and get through the the batting order in the lineups here, and then we'll take a break for the national anthem. For Storm Lake. Leading off will be David Gonzalez Santos. He comes in batting 493 and he'll be playing catcher. Batting second will be Bobby Bachman, 275 hitter, playing left field. Batting third will be Trey Bocher, batting 394, and he's shortstop. Batting fourth will be Brock Edwards batting 309, and he will be pitching. Kel Phelps is batting fifth. He comes in hitting 222 and he's playing second base. Playing right field for Storm Lake is Azil Garcia batting 286, batting seventh and playing third base, Carson Taylor hitting 209. Batting eighth, Drew Hogreef batting 263. He'll be manning first base for them. And batting ninth and playing center field, Rylan Richardson batting 234. For the Crusaders, leading off JJ Hope playing shortstop, batting 400. In left field, Tommy Carroll batting 273, batting second. Batting third and pitching, hitting 419 is Caleb Lefaver batting fourth and catching. Peyton Erickson hitting 282. That average has really come up the last time. Really come up, absolutely. Nathan Gaswent batting fifth, playing right field. He's batting 299. And Dylan Knapp playing center field, batting sixth, hitting 299. You got Jackson Vickery batting seventh, playing third base, and he is hitting 192. Mason Moravik batting eighth, playing first base. He's hitting 188. And batting ninth for the Crusaders playing second base will be Chase Beck.

SPEAKER_04

Monster game on Tuesday night for Chase Beck. It's good to see him. Hopefully he can continue that tonight.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, time for him to get hot. Time for really time for everybody in the lineup to get hot. We talked, you know, early in the year we talked that the bottom of the order needed to start hitting the ball, and they did, and the top of the order kind of fell off, and then it reversed itself. The top of the order came alive like they're supposed to, and then the bottom of the order kind of struggled, but seemed like everybody's doing a really good job, and uh we you know we can't say it enough. Caleb Lefaver, he he hasn't lost his batter's eye. He is still putting the bat on the ball solid every time he's up.

SPEAKER_04

And you were talking about JJ Hope, and you know how I feel, Mike. You and I have talked, I think he's the best shortstop in the state, uh, Barnon, um, at least in our class. I I know there's a young man over there at East High School who probably argue with him all over, and that would be a great battle between him and Jepson. But uh let me tell you, I mean, he's doing some great things. I talked to his dad the other night over at the little league game where his little brother was playing, and and I know, you know, I said, what sport does he want to do? And he said he'd love to do baseball, but um, you know, right now there's you know, he hasn't made any choices. But uh, let me tell you, if there's some colleges out there, I tell you what, he'd be a great great JUCO player where he can develop even more uh and go somewhere big, but just a great athlete.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, if if you're a college and somehow you're listening to this broadcast, you've got to come out and check out JJ Hope at Shortstop for Healing. Uh speaking of Healing athletics, the Healing softball team will play tomorrow night at 7 o'clock at Riverside Park. They'll take on Spencer in their first round.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, that's a tough matchup.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, Spencer is they beat us early in the year at the girls. Well, and then you talked about us being number two seed, not getting any favors. Heal's ranked above them or seeded above them, and they didn't get any favors. They're starting out with a really, really solid team. Spencer's 28, what did you say, 28 and five? Yeah, something like that. Yeah, it's it's uh that's gonna be a battle, but uh Healing's got a good young team, and they've done a really good job this year. And uh shout out to their coach Kelly and and everything that, or Kylie, that's and everything she's been able to do, and uh just really impressive first year.

SPEAKER_04

Shout out to Jack Stevens, who's behind was behind us taking pictures. Did he have his wine shirt on the page? He did plugged in. He did. He's all plugged in tonight.

SPEAKER_07

So as bright as it is, I don't know if I'll be able to see him. My eyes have get adjusted to the sun. While I am at it, we've got a couple minutes, give some shout-outs here. Start out with uh happy anniversary to uh JV head coach Jeff Blander and his wife Mary Kate. Today they're celebrating their fifth anniversary, and she's so happy to be married for five years. She made me and my wife a dozen cinnamon rolls. So she made you cinnamon rolls on your anniversary. She made some for him, but she said, Well, you know, mom and dad have had a rough couple weeks with family in town, so I'm gonna make them some cinnamon rolls.

SPEAKER_04

Was that part of the dowry?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, that was part of it. Yep. Okay, and the nice thing about it is she made us a dozen cinnamon rolls, and I found out at dinner that her grandkids are coming over, so I have five grandkids, and we probably won't get any of the cinnamon rolls.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, that's great, that's great, Mike.

SPEAKER_07

And then on a on a more serious note, uh, shout out to Ann Reed and her family. Uh her mom passed away uh a couple days ago. Ann is really instrumental in a lot of the things that go on at Catholic Radio, and uh she's been great to John and I. She's given us a lot of advice.

SPEAKER_04

You and I wouldn't be here, Mike, if it wasn't for Ann Reed and uh Tim Swedeen. So we thank you.

SPEAKER_07

We appreciate both of them. And uh Ann, if you're listening, uh our prayers and prayers of the healing faith will go out to you and and your family. And uh as I look over, I want to give a shout out to uh Doc, another JV coach. Uh keep keep his wife in your prayers too. She's dealing with some uh some health issues that that they're battling to try to get corrected. And you know, Emily and and Jeff Napton over in Lincoln, uh, he's awaiting that uh bone marrow transplant. So keep everybody and all those people in your prayers, anybody that that you know of that uh dealing with any kind of adversity, uh physical, mental, job, uh anything like that, family, uh say a prayer for them, and and and that'll go a long way in making things better for everybody. Coaches are finishing up their meeting here, and we're gonna we'll do they'll announce a starting lineup, so let's go ahead. We can go ahead and take a uh three-minute break, and then we'll come back.

SPEAKER_19

And now, back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_07

Welcome back here to East High. I'm Mike Stags, joined by John Tritz. They are just finishing up the starting lineup for the Healing Crusaders, and then we will move on to the National Anthem. So we'll stay here for that this time.

SPEAKER_04

Well, I'm wondering, they will do the because they did the national anthem before the other game. Will they do it again? I'm guessing they will.

SPEAKER_07

We'll find out here in just a second. Everybody's running out.

SPEAKER_04

Yep, yep. Here we go. We got a really special shout out to Noah LeFaver and Rhett Taylor, who are down in Des Moines playing a little ball themselves. And sorry you can't be here, Noah, to watch your brother pitch and uh and hit and hopefully win a game for us tonight. But uh hope you're enjoying the broadcast out there.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, as hot as it is, uh Noah, we could probably use you. John may go down here in the heat, and I'll need somebody to fill in for him. But we'll do the best we can. If if that happens, we'll grab uh Kathy Lafaver. We'll get here her over.

SPEAKER_04

Here on the radio, but yeah, it it it where we're where we are, Mike. It it is hot, but the sun's starting to go down, get behind those clouds a little bit. It should be an enjoyable evening.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, we're have some fun here. Uh should the Crusaders win, uh, their next game would be Monday night here at East High at 7 o'clock, which means, and there's no game before it, so that means we would be on at 645 with first pitch right around 7 o'clock.

SPEAKER_04

Storm Lakes got three ball ball players here, Mike. It uh could give Caleb the Favor some problems uh hitting uh David Gonzalez Santos, the catcher, 493 hitter, uh 598 on base percentage, obviously a good hitter. Brock Edwards, a 309 hitter, 412 on base, and Trey Beck uh Bocher. I think they pronounce it Botcher. I was talking to the coach, uh 394 with the 450 on base percentage. Those three guys, you get after that, and it dips. They're hitting 290 or 288 as a team. So those three guys are way up there, and then the rest of them are down, obviously. And 288 is a team, and but they do get on base, they're gonna run. They're they're 61 of 66 stealing bases when they do get on base. So they're aggressive, just like we saw with Dennison the other night.

SPEAKER_07

They'll challenge, they'll challenge our pitchers, and they'll definitely challenge Peyton, uh, who has shown that he's up for the challenge. Uh most of this season as he's thrown out quite a few runners. Oh man. Come very close to throwing out a few more. And warm-up pitches are done, and Storm Lake will send David Gonzalez Santos to the plate to get things started here in the top of the first inning. A lot of chatter from both dugouts as we're getting started here. Wind up in the pitch. First pitch high for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, real important uh for Caleb Lefavre to get a really good start. Here's the pitch. That pitch is inside for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Working that inside corner on Gonzales.

SPEAKER_07

Healing in the white uniforms with the blue pinstripes and the blue HC on the jersey with the gold trim. Swing and a miss. Strike one. Two balls, one strike. Wearing the gold caps with the white lettering and the blue bill. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Swinging a miss, strike two. Two balls, two strikes. Yeah, Caleb saw that he he went for that last one that was at the fist, fist high, and he brought the second one right back, same spot. That pitch has popped up. Foul out of play. Count remains. Two balls, two strikes. Yeah, good pitch outside corner. That's three fastballs in a row by Caleb Mike. That one on the outside corner. Love to see him come back with that slider that he throws for a strike. And he can bring that inside or outside.

SPEAKER_07

We are sitting along the third baseline right outside the heel and dugout. Here's a wind up in the pitch. Got him looking for strike three. That's out number one.

SPEAKER_04

Ask and we shall receive right there. There's his slider, and it froze Gonzales.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, and uh this umpire, I think, is gonna give us a little bit of fits because it sounded that was a little bit of a delayed strike three. I mean, it was I think he was winding up for the deep voice and the crank of the arm. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss, strike one. No balls, one strike. Caleb looking much sharper than he has the last couple times. He's been out on the mound.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, this is important. Here's the pitch. A little bit outside.

SPEAKER_07

One and one. Trey Bocher would be next.

SPEAKER_04

Swing and a miss, strike two. He's just throwing gas tonight, Mike. Absolute gas.

SPEAKER_07

Caleb looks in, shakes the first sign off, starts his windup, and the pitch. Outside, ball two.

SPEAKER_04

Two balls, two strikes. You know, I don't mind that. He's he's he's trying to nip that black on the outside corner, and as good pitchers do, work inside out. Here's the pitch. Got him looking for strike three.

SPEAKER_07

That's two strikeouts in a row for Caleb Lefaver. Yeah, that's that slider again, Mike. Two outs here in the top of the first. That'll bring Trey Bocher to the plate. Steps in from the right side, hitting 394. Wind up in the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Swing and a miss, strike one. No balls, one strike. So he's been going fastball, fastball to the first two batters. He comes back with a slider on this guy on the first pitch. Here's the pitch. Yep. Went around again and strike two. No balls, two strikes. Beautiful slider. Kept that thing down in the dirt, made him chase it. Good slider.

SPEAKER_07

Caleb trying to strike out the side here in inning number one. Wind up in the pitch. There you go. Right there for strike three. Good morning, good afternoon, and good night. Three up, three down, all strikeout.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, I haven't seen us this pumped up in a long time, Mike. This is good to see. Healing will come to bat in the bottom of the first.

SPEAKER_07

Tied zero to zero. We'll be back in 60.

SPEAKER_03

SPEAKER_19

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_07

Getting ready for the bottom of the first inning here at East.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, just watching Edwards throw. He's got two different uh angles that he releases up front, comes down low with that kind of a sidearm thing, and then over the top. Got good velocity. Haven't seen him throw his curveball for a strike yet in warm-up, so that that could be an issue.

SPEAKER_07

He does like to walk batters and likes to hit batters. So we'll take whatever we can get tonight to get on base and push some runs across and get this victory and get ready for Monday. Caleb struck out the side in the top of the first inning, two strikeout looking and one swinging.

SPEAKER_04

Shout out to Mary Claire Clark and Carly Berger listening from Cincinnati, Ohio, Mike. Hello to my daughter out there and my sister. She's out there doing a little recruiting out in Cincinnati right now. I was gonna ask you that. What's Carly doing in Cincinnati? Yeah. But uh said we're coming in loud and clear. Good. JJ Holtz steps in here.

SPEAKER_07

Here's the first pitch to JJ. Sails over his head for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Yeah, that thing got airmailed a little bit. I think we're close enough to heal the dugout. We probably don't need to tell the folks at home what's going on. They can tell by the reaction. One ball, no strike.

SPEAKER_04

We are definitely close to the dugout. That pitch high for ball two. Yeah, this is huge. JJ, of course, is just it's just a huge. Like I said, he gets on first base. He scores over 80% of the time. Just a bigot bat.

SPEAKER_07

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

That pitch in there for strike one. Two balls, one strike. Yeah, good pitch on the outside corner.

unknown

Here we go.

SPEAKER_07

There's the windup and the pitch. Got grounded out to the second baseman. Fields it cleanly, throws over to first for out number one. JJ retired. Second to first. First out. That'll bring Tommy Carroll to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, good at bat by JJ. Good inside out hitting. Hit it right to the second baseman. Got good wood on the bat.

SPEAKER_07

First pitch again, high for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Look in and the pitch. There we go. That's a nice. Oh, he's gonna drive it.

SPEAKER_07

Carroll reaches on the air by the second baseman and puts a runner at first with one out, and that'll bring Caleb LaFaver to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, hit it just to the left of the second baseman. Nice hard hit, and and uh second baseman obviously just couldn't field it. I mean, he had to run a little bit, but I didn't think it was out of his reach too much.

SPEAKER_07

They are really shifted over. The second baseman is almost in the normal first base position here on the field.

SPEAKER_04

So well, we we know what he can do when he sees this, Mike. He can take it the opposite field as good as anyone.

SPEAKER_07

First pitch to Caleb.

SPEAKER_04

Outside, ball one, one ball, no strikes. You know, sometimes you don't realize how tall Caleb is until he's we're ground level with him.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I feel like land of the giants, and I'm not a giant. Here's the pitch. That pitch is high for ball two, two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, they have really got the shift down. This is they're really playing him to pull the ball, folks. Short steps almost over the base. Here's a pitch.

SPEAKER_07

That pitch is outside for ball three. Three balls, no strikes. RBI leader Peyton Erickson do up next. Check the runner at first. And the pitch.

SPEAKER_16

That's out.

SPEAKER_07

Pitch high for ball three go. Lefaver draws the four-pitch walk, and that will bring Peyton Erickson to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

There's nothing better. Playoff time. The amount of games that are within the game is just so awesome. It's just such a chess game. So here we go, first and second, folks. One out. You got Peyton Erickson up. You got some speed at second. Speed at first. Jonas is at first now. He's courtesy running for Caleb. We've been aggressive all year on the base pads, and I don't look for us to stop by any means.

SPEAKER_07

Check the runner at second. And here's the pitch. Inside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

A curveball. Here we go. Tommy's got a decent lead.

SPEAKER_07

Check the runner at second, and here's a pitch. In there for strike one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, good pitch by Edwards on the inside corner there, Mike.

SPEAKER_07

Check Carroll at second base. Coming to the plate with it. Here's the pitch. Pitch low for ball two. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Edwards really worried about Carroll down there at second, looking back a couple times. Trying to freeze him. Here's the pitch. Oh, just missed that one.

SPEAKER_07

Rounded foul down the third baseline. Two balls, two strikes. Nathan Gas went. Two up next.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, two and two now. Gotta protect the plate.

SPEAKER_07

Long look back to second base. Here's the pitch. Way outside.

SPEAKER_04

Ball three. Brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Yeah, there's that change of uh direction with his arm or his release point where he brings the down mic, throws that curveball almost waist high.

SPEAKER_07

Comes set and checks the runner at second. Here's the pitch. Ooh, that hit him.

SPEAKER_04

Boy, that sounded pretty solid, too. Peyton's a catcher, he didn't feel it. I think he's got a little gear on. He's got that elbow gear that those kids seem to wear now.

SPEAKER_07

Storm Lake coach headed out to have a conversation with his pitcher. Nathan Gaswent steps in.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Peyton Erickson been giving us some really good at bats. Really good at bats. This would be a good time to get some of our sponsors in right now, Mike. Brad and Heather Gaswent, Roger and Anita Gaswent, John and Lisa Tritz, Mike and Ann Marie Skaggs, Jeff and Kathy LeFavre, Dave and Rachel Vicker, Cole and Leah Knapp, Chad and Angela Erickson, Legacy Financial, Don and Lisa Clays, and Tim and Lisa Swadin. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Heeland Baseball and Catholic Radio. Yeah, thanks.

SPEAKER_07

Thanks to that list of sponsors. They're sponsoring the playoff run by the Crusaders. And it's not too late to get in and be a sponsor, folks. You can email the station, call the station on Monday, and they will get you set up. Nathan Gassman steps in with the bases loaded and one out. First pitch in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Just make contact. Put the ball in play. Wind up in the pitch. There we go.

SPEAKER_07

He does. Minds in the middle of the short step head. There we go. Just the score of the first two runs for the Crusaders. Healing takes a two to nothing lead here in the bottom of the first inning.

SPEAKER_04

Great piece of hitting by Nathan Gaswin. So Storm Lake has the infield in bases loaded. They're obviously going home. They're not playing regular distance. And what does Nathan do? Gets a shot right where the catcher would have been if he would have been playing normal distance. So there's just about a massive collision out here because Jonas took off from second base right away.

SPEAKER_07

Don't know where he was going to go, but he took off for second base, had to stop, and the shortstop was right there. The third baseman was there.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, just good piece of hit by Nathan. Here's the pitch. Oh, I like it. I like it. Not a bad idea.

SPEAKER_07

Fouled that off for strike one. No balls, one strike. One out here in the bottom of the first. Crusaders have pushed two runs across to take a two to nothing lead.

SPEAKER_04

Time to do it again. Third baseman still playing way back, Mike. Try it again.

SPEAKER_07

Shayner at second. Courtesy running for Peyton Erickson. That pitch in there for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Dillon's got to protect. Down 0-2.

SPEAKER_07

Here's a pitch. Swing and a miss for strike three. Dylan goes down swinging for out number two, and that will bring Jackson Vickery to the plate. Vickery steps in with runners at first and second and two outs. Got good speed at second base.

SPEAKER_04

I look for a double steal here, Mike, within this at bat.

SPEAKER_07

Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, nice curveball in the outside corner.

SPEAKER_07

Check of the runner and the pitch. Fouls that one off out of play. That would have been right into that tree that they cut down too. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, they're so I was talking to their their AD a little bit before the game, and they're trying to do kind of what Dennison has that where the key people can go out and sit on the terrace side. That's why they cut those two trees out. Check the runner at second. Yeah, he's going, Mike. There he goes.

SPEAKER_07

One run scores.

SPEAKER_04

I told you we've been aggressive. Great time for the double steal, and they do it.

SPEAKER_07

RBI single for Jackson Vickery. That makes a score three to nothing. Gas went all the way over to third base on that. So we've got runners at first and third with one out. And Mason Moravic steps in.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, you can just see, you can see Gesey over there, just kind of kind of deaking him a little bit. Excuse me, that wasn't Geecey. That was that was Brody, wasn't it? Yeah. That was Brody. I'm gonna give him credit due. Brody Shaner on that. First pitch Moravik fouled back for strike one.

SPEAKER_07

No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_05

Here we go, punishment, punch. Here we go.

SPEAKER_07

Longwork in here, checks the runner at first base. Really keeping an eye on Vickery over there. Here's a pitch. Swing and a miss, strike two. No balls, two strikes. Chase Beck coming off that first home run game from the other night is in the on-deck circle. Check of Vickery. Vickery slowly takes off. I like it. I like it. They're gonna, and he's gonna go all the way to second on that. He was trying to draw a throw and get in a pickle, and Stormlake, I would say, wisely decided, just let him have the have the base. So now runners at second and third. No balls, two strikes. To Moravik. Here's the wind up and the pitch. Oh, swing and a miss. Strike three. Mason goes down swinging for out number three, but Healan pushes. Three runs across in the bottom of the first. We're gonna go the top of the second. Crusaders lead this one three to nothing.

SPEAKER_19

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_07

Storm Lake will send Brock Edwards, Cale Phelps, and Azil Garcia to the plate. Edwards will step in here. Lefaver struck out the side in the top of the first inning. Unofficially having at 12 pitches. Wind up in the pitch. Air mills that one in there for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

That one got away from him just a little bit.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, nothing like what we saw in the first inning, that's for sure.

SPEAKER_04

Here's the pitch. Oh. That's right in there for strike one. One ball, one strike. Yeah, he's he's really working that inside, outside, hitting uh Peyton right where he's setting up. And the pitch. A little high. Another pitch high for ball two. Two balls, one strike. That slider that just kind of didn't break.

SPEAKER_07

Caleb working quickly. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike two. Two balls, two strikes. Give a shout out to Rob and Roz Cove. I know they listen to just about every baseball game that's on the radio. Wind up in the pitch. Fouled off. Count remains. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, this is this is the hardest I've seen Caleb throw in in quite a while. I mean, he's he's really throwing some gas tonight, Mike. And he delivers.

SPEAKER_07

Swing and a miss, strike three. That is four consecutive strikeouts for Caleb LeFaver. That will bring Cale Phelps to the plate, second baseman for Storm Lake. Here's the wind up by Caleb and the pitch.

unknown

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_07

One ball, no strikes. Peyton didn't have to do anything about that when it hit the backstop so hard and rolled back out to Caleb.

SPEAKER_04

I don't think I've ever seen that.

SPEAKER_07

No. Here's a pitch. That pitch low for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Wonder if Morningside needs to put in a little extra padding to make sure it comes out. Oh man. Here's a pitch. Inside.

SPEAKER_04

That one misses for ball three. Three balls, no strikes. Now you just got a bear back. Bear back here. A deep breath. Here's pitch. There we go. Oh.

SPEAKER_07

Just outside for ball four. Storm Lake gets her first runner on by virtue of a walk, and that will bring Isil Garcia to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Now Peyton having a couple words with the ump. I don't think Peyton thought that was outside.

SPEAKER_07

Peyton's probably like, come on, give me a break. I had they hit me in the arm when I was battling. Here's the first pitch by Caleb. In there for strike one.

SPEAKER_04

No balls, one strike. Yeah. Storm Lake. They'll be aggressive here, Mike. They're not afraid to take off when they do get runners and you know on the bases. Throw over. Ooh.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, gets away from first baseman. Moravic chases it down. They're gonna send him to third. We got he's got gas went with the arm. There's the throw. Got him. The relay go. Gas went to hope to victory for out number two.

SPEAKER_04

Great job by Nathan. What do you got there? Nine, six, five? Nine? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, because I would say nine to nine to three five, but I don't think he touched it. No, here's pitch.

SPEAKER_07

Swing and a miss. Strike two. No balls, two strikes. Two outs here in the top of the second inning. Crusaders lead three to nothing. Here's the wind up and the pitch. High for ball one. One ball, two strikes. Good waist pitch.

unknown

No, you can do it. You can do it.

SPEAKER_04

Uncharacteristic throwback to the pitcher by Peyton.

SPEAKER_07

That's and the wind up and the pitch by Caleb. Bringing him in strike three. That is three up, three down for Storm Lake in the top of the second inning. We'll head to the bottom of the second Crusaders lead. Three to nothing. We'll be back here in 60.

SPEAKER_19

And now back to your Crusaders court on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_07

They will send Chase back and then back to the top of the order. JJ Hope and Tommy Carroll here to get things started for us.

SPEAKER_04

First pitch into Chase, swing and a miss, strike one. Yeah, nice curve ball by Edwards. Chase being true to form has been really aggressive on that first swing. I don't mind that. Catches that inside corner for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Now you gotta protect. Just gotta kind of take a little step closer, choke up a little bit. Here's pitch. There we go.

SPEAKER_07

Fouls that pitch off. Count remains, no balls, two strikes. Let's go one four again again. Should this lead hold up? The Crusaders will play Monday at 7 p.m. here at East High. Right down the middle for strike three. Beck goes down looking for out number one, and that will bring JJ Hope to the plate. Grounded out short to or second to first his first time up.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Edwards came back with that curveball in the outside corner. Really got a nice curveball when he's getting when he gets that thing going.

SPEAKER_07

Wind up in the pitch to JJ. Inside ball one. One ball, no strikes. Wind up and the pitch. Fooled him on that one. One ball, one strike. Way out in front on that swing. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss, strike two.

SPEAKER_04

One ball, two strikes. Yeah, Edwards got a pretty nice looking curveball slider combination when he wants when he gets that thing going. Here's the pitch. There we go. Good protection by JJ. Count remains. One ball, two strikes. Yeah, JJ's such a tough out. Such a tough, he's hard to strike out. He doesn't strike out very often. Here's the wind up.

SPEAKER_07

Fouls that pitch off. Hangs in there. Count remains, one ball, two strikes. Tommy Carroll, who reached on an error and scored the first Crusader run, is due up next. Oh, nice cut. Swing and a miss, strike three.

SPEAKER_04

Well, you don't see that very often, Mike.

SPEAKER_07

JJ Hope goes down swinging for out number two, and that'll bring Tommy Carroll to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Tommy Carroll, just a solid player. I mean, all the way around. Hitting, fielding, doesn't make a lot of mistakes. Just a real solid ball player.

SPEAKER_07

Strike one. No balls, one strike. Here's the pitch. Just misses for ball one.

SPEAKER_04

One ball, one strike. That's a sidearm. Sidearm slider that he throws, Mike. Kind of comes down by about waist high. Here's the pitch. He rope that another one.

SPEAKER_07

Lineback up the middle to the center fielder. Carroll for the second time tonight.

SPEAKER_04

He's at first base with two outs, and that'll bring Caleb LeFavor to the plate. I'm telling you, ever since Tommy switched that bat, he got a new bat. He must have got a new bat because he switched that bat after about three games ago, and he's been making a lot better contact with the ball.

SPEAKER_07

Caleb LaFaver steps in, walked his first time up, and scored a run. Sergeant Bluff is up seven to nothing on Carroll in the bottom of the third inning. So if these two scores hold up, it'll be healing to Sergeant Bluff on Monday here at East High. Check of the runner at first. He's going. Throw down. High.

SPEAKER_04

Carroll in there safely with the stolen base. Yeah, Tommy got a really good jump. Yeah, now you got the guy in scoring position here. You get the ball out of the infield. Here's the pitch. Good cut. No balls, two strikes to Caleb. Here's that chess match we're talking about. You got guy on second. Got Edwards a little bit nervous. Here's the pitch to Caleb. There's a rope down the line. That's gonna drop, Mike. Nope. Just foul. Boy. So many bad spots we don't have, Mike. Don't have that.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, we've got to rely on Coach Taylor to put his hands up and hold the runner or tell him to keep going. So everybody will step back in. Boy, I thought that thing was gonna drop when it left. It was hit hard. Check of the runner, and here's the pitch. And that one's not gonna go. Left fielder makes the play. LaFaver flies out to left field to end the inning. Crusaders get one on, unable to push them across. We will head to the top of the third inning. Crusaders lead three to nothing. We'll be back in one minute.

SPEAKER_19

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_07

Top of the third inning here at East High. Storm Lake will send Carson Taylor, Drew Holgrief, and Rylan Richardson to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, for those of you out there that haven't got a chance to get out here quite yet, get an opportunity to come out here and watch uh Cave Blafaver throw, throwing darts tonight, um, absolute gas, and and uh really seems to be in a zone other than the one walk as I think pretty much shut him down on strikeout, strikeout. You have six strikeouts, Mike? Five of the six outs of the strikeouts had that oh had to throw to third.

SPEAKER_07

Had that play that went so smoothly, you got to wonder if maybe they don't practice that. Let's overthrow first base and see how quickly we can get it to third. Right. So Taylor will step in here, comes in hitting 209. Caleb with the first pitch, swinging a miss, strike one, no balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Coaches are moving them over. They got moving Kerr a little bit more over to center, and here's the pitch. Just misses for ball one. One ball, one strike. I mean, you got to look at the spray chart, and I would be thinking we would be leaning to the left side or right side of the field. That pitch in there for strike two. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_07

And the pitch. Swinging a miss. Strike three. Another strikeout for Caleb Lefaver. That makes six through two and a third innings. That'll bring up the first baseman, Drew Hogreef.

SPEAKER_04

Of course, that's six out of seven. The one being the walk and then the throw out at third. Other than that, nobody's made contact with him tonight, Mike. I mean, he's first pitch high for ball one. One ball, no strikes. He's just rearing back and throwing gas tonight.

SPEAKER_07

Pitch by Caleb. In there for strike one. One ball, one strike. I can see him standing over there. I don't know if he's listening. We give a shout-out to Eric Blum. I know he listens to us a lot during the season when he's not at games. That pitch fouled off. One ball, two strikes. Sergeant Bluff is now ahead. Ten to nothing in the bottom of the third inning. Here's the pitch by Caleb.

SPEAKER_04

Swinging a miss, strike three. This young man's on fire tonight. Beautiful slider on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_07

Seven strikeouts and two and two thirds innings for Caleb Lefaver. That will bring Ryland Richardson to the plate. Here's the first pitch. Outside ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

You know, and the better part is he's really working east to west, working the inside, outside corner. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_07

Bad pitch in there for strike one. One ball, one strike. Top of the order, and David Gonzalez Santos would be due up should Richardson reach.

SPEAKER_04

Another strike there for Caleb. Yeah, Peyton's not even moving, Mike. He's setting up and he's popping that glove. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_07

Swing and a miss. Eight out of nine. Eight strikeouts for Caleb Lefaver through three innings. Storm Lake goes in order. We're going to go to the bottom of the third inning. Crusaders still lead this one three to nothing. We'll talk to you again in 60 seconds.

You're listening to FM 88.1, KFHC, Honka Sioux City, and KOIA, Storm Lake, Siouxland Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_19

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_07

Welcome back to East High. We're headed to the bottom of the third Crusaders lead three to nothing. They'll send Peyton Erickson, Nathan Gaswent, and Dylan Knapp to the plate. Give a quick shout out to Alicia and Eric Porsche listening in from home. They've got a free night. The kids are at my house. So Alicia's enjoying a little baseball on the radio. Appreciate your listening, Alicia. First pitch to Peyton, swinging a miss. Strike one.

SPEAKER_04

No balls, one strike. Yeah, there's that curved ball in the outside corner. Good pitch by Edwards.

SPEAKER_07

Starts his wind up and the pitch. Just misses. Ball one. One ball, one strike. Erickson hit by pitch his first time up and scored the third Crusader run. That pitch outside. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we talk about on base percentage in the last few games. His on base percentage is jet, just jump big time.

SPEAKER_07

Here's the pitch. That's in there for strike two. Two balls, two strikes. Need us to move over, Mom. Mom's over here getting some video of the at-bat.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, you gotta protect here. Two and two. Here's the pitch. Fouls that one off out of play. Count remains. Two balls, two strikes. Yeah, that's that's a good job by Peyton protecting the plate. I mean, anything close, you've got to be swinging and fouling that thing off, making Edwards work.

SPEAKER_07

Peyton steps back in. Here's the wind up and the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Just missed it.

SPEAKER_07

Pitch popped up out to short, shortstop coming in. Under it for out number one. And that will bring Nathan Gaswin to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, he just got underneath that mic. Just missed it. I like the aggressiveness of our batters. They're coming up there. They're looking at that first two pitch to swing and to hit. Something that we talked about a few games back. We'd like to see more of, and we've definitely seen that tonight. Yep, they've uh they've done a good job with that.

SPEAKER_07

Arod steps in. Pitch fouled off for strike one, no balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that means to me, that means Gaswin's probably out there warming up.

SPEAKER_07

Here's pitch, swing and a miss. One ball, one strike. Arod strikes out. And that will bring Dylan Knapp to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Edwards has really got this. He's got this slider, uh kind of a slider, and then he's got a slow curve ball that he throws, and there's not much difference, but there's a little difference in the speed. That pitch hits Dylan.

SPEAKER_07

So Dylan gets on with the hit by pitch. And that will bring up Jackson Vickery. Dylan down at first with two outs. Give a shout out to Andrew Skaggs and Nettie Knapton over in Lincoln. Listen to the game. First pitch, ball one, one ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Well, I had one down there for ten years, Mike, so I know how you feel.

SPEAKER_07

Actually, it's kind of grown on me since he's been down there, but it's still not my favorite place.

SPEAKER_04

I look for us to be really aggressive here on the base paths. Oh, there he goes. Throw over to first base.

SPEAKER_07

You gotta go to three. You gotta go to three here. Dylan was on his way to second anyway, and the throw got away from the first baseman. So Dillon down at third base with two outs.

SPEAKER_04

And then there's so many things here that could happen. So you get a one-on-one count. We talked about that, I think. The other day you said it'd be nice if we got a pass ball, and what do we get? We get a pass ball. So this just opens things up having Dillon over at third.

SPEAKER_07

Well, I'm not too proud to beg. Let's get another pass ball.

SPEAKER_04

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_07

Here's the pitch. Pitch outside. Ball two. Two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, good pitch here for Vickery to turn on.

SPEAKER_07

Moravic is due up next. Here's the pitch. That's in there for strike one. Two balls, one strike. Wind up and the pitch to Jackson. High. Three balls, one strike. Crusaders lead three to nothing. We're in the bottom of the third inning.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, he's got to come. He's got to come to Vickery here. There's a pitch. There we go. There's that pass ball.

SPEAKER_07

Throw not in time. Dylan scores the fourth run for the Crusaders. Crusaders now lead. Four to nothing.

SPEAKER_04

Vickery drew the walk, and he's down to first base. And that's going to shin overcee. We're getting quite a bit of that tonight, Mike.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I'm headed to Casey's to buy some lottery tickets after this is over.

SPEAKER_04

And as for that pass ball, and we get one. But that's that's what speed gives you right there, Mike. I mean, you get him on base, we talk about it. Dylan can manufacture a way to get the third. He does it quite a bit. And there you go, you set yourself up, you get the scoring opportunity.

SPEAKER_07

Pitch outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Mace Moravik, son of son of Tony Moravic, and Punky Moravic is the grandmother, I believe. Shout out to them.

SPEAKER_07

Check the runner and the pitch. Outside, ball two, two balls, no strikes. Chase back, do up next. Check the victory and the pitch. There we go. Ravic squares does not offer. It's three balls, no strikes. Again, Healing has pushed one run across here in the bottom of the third, and they lead four to nothing. Here's the pitch. Here we go. Outside ball four. Corey Edwards wanted that pitch. Vickery will trot down to second base. Crusaders have runners at first and second with two outs. Chase Beck at the plate.

SPEAKER_04

He threw Chase Beck four straight curveballs last time. Well, excuse me, three, and then he threw that waist fastball. But so he's going to see a barrage of curveballs here. First pitch. Outside, ball one. One ball, no strikes. And sure enough, that first pitch, there's that curveball. Just got to keep his weight back.

SPEAKER_07

Check of the runners. And the pitch. That's in there for strike one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Mike, good hit and run pitch.

SPEAKER_07

Check of the runners. Delivers to the plate. Squares to bunt. There's a good bunt. Oh. The bang bang. Just beats Beck down at first base. Crusaders retired in the bottom of the third. They've scored one. They lead this four to nothing. We'll be back in 60 seconds.

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_07

Headed to the top of the fourth inning. Crusaders lead this one four to nothing. Storm Lake will send Santos, Bachman, and Bocher to the plate. Threw some players in the blender, and we've got some changes here, folks. Nathan Gaswin is on the mound for the Crusaders. Caleb LeFavor moves over to third base. Jackson Vickery moves to first.

SPEAKER_04

Tommy Carroll out in right field and Mason Moravik in left field. Now this is interesting. We have not seen Caleb at third base tonight, but let's talk a little bit about his first three innings. Obviously, the rust got taken off tonight because he looked absolutely sharp.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, as as you said many times, and we got a text from someone, they straight gas is what he was throwing tonight. So it was it was it was good to see that, and hopefully we get to see him pitch for the Crusaders again. But if this is the last time we got to see him, he went out on a very high note. And if we can get the Nathan Gasman, we've had the last boutings, it's gonna be tough.

SPEAKER_04

Oh that pitch too misses for ball one. Well, if that's any sign, that's that's the Nathan we've seen hitting that inside outside corner, Mike. Here's the pitch by Nathan.

SPEAKER_07

One ball, one strike. Santo struck out looking his first time up, and here's the pitch. That's it out to Moravic in left field.

SPEAKER_04

Makes the catch over his head for out number one. Boy, not an easy catch with that sun, Mike.

SPEAKER_07

No, that's he's good thing he's got sunglasses on. He wouldn't have seen that one. Boy, he he got a great jump on that ball. Great jump. Bachman will step in. He struck out looking his first time up.

unknown

Right there, right there, work into it.

SPEAKER_07

So Caleb had eight K's in three innings. Grounded out to second baseman. Tosses over.

SPEAKER_04

Beautiful.

unknown

Beautiful.

SPEAKER_04

Pop number two. Yeah, Nathan's doing what Nathan does best, man. He's he's hitting corners, keeping the ball low, and getting them to pop up ground out.

SPEAKER_07

Nathan steps on, he's ready to go. Wind up in the pitch. Fouled sharply over toward the Storm Lake dugout for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, good slider on the inside corner.

SPEAKER_07

Nathan's ready, and here's the pitch. Outside ball one. One ball, one strike. Nathan Deals.

SPEAKER_04

Fouled off back to the net. One ball, two strikes. Yeah, chest high fastball. Love that pitch. Got kind of a tall, lanky kid here. Come up there with the numbers. He couldn't catch up with it. Good pitch by Nathan. Here it comes. Pitch. Just misses inside. Ball two. Two balls, two strikes. Yeah, that's that slider inside. He can throw that thing inside out. Tried to catch him on that inside corner with it. Come back at the belt again, Mike.

SPEAKER_07

Nathan working quickly in the pitch. Fouled off out of play. Count remains two balls, two strikes, two outs here in the top of the fourth. Crusaders lead four to nothing.

SPEAKER_04

Gonna come on that outside corner with the slider. Let's see where Peyton sets up. Here's the pitch. There it is.

SPEAKER_07

Got him looking. Strike three. Three up, three down for the Storm Lake here in the top of the fourth. Beautiful slider. We're gonna go to the bottom of the fourth. Crusaders lead four to nothing.

SPEAKER_19

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_07

Crusaders coming about here in the bottom of the fourth inning. They will send JJ Hope, Tommy Carroll, and Caleb LeFavor to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, let's get some sponsors in here. Mike for Bishop Heel and Baseball, Brad and Heather Gaswent, Tim and Lisa Swadin, Roger and Anita Gaswent, John and Lisa Tritz, Don and Lisa Clays, Mike and Anne-Maurice Gaggs, Jeff and Kathy Lefavre, Dave and Rachel Vickery, Cole and Lena Knapp, Chad and Angela, and Angela Erickson. Legacy Financial. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healing Baseball and Catholic Radio. You were going to call her Angelic, weren't you?

SPEAKER_07

She has been an angel the last few years cooking up at uh Bishop Mueller when the Crusaders are at home. First pitch to JJ outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Chad's gonna give me a hard time about that, isn't he? Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

He better agree with you in front of her. Here's a wind up in the pitch. Nice rip to right field. Oh, right to him. Right field to be able to get under it and make the play for out number one.

SPEAKER_04

Boy, that was a beautiful piece of hit by JJ Hope. Great inside out, hands through, barrel follow. Everything right except right to the player.

SPEAKER_07

Tommy Carroll steps in, reached on an error his first time up, and scored a run and singled the last time. That pitch, swing and a miss for strike one.

SPEAKER_04

Tommy was going for the moon on that one. Here's the pitch to Tommy.

SPEAKER_07

Just misses ball one. One ball, one strike. Caleb LaFaver do up next.

SPEAKER_19

Hey, start us off again, kid. Let's go. Let's go, T Barrels.

SPEAKER_07

Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Two balls, one strike. Yeah, Tommy looks really solid up there. Looks comfortable at the plate.

SPEAKER_07

Wind up in the pitch. Grounded foul down the third baseline. Yeah, just missed it. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Pitcher takes a long time. Get reset. That pitch fouled off. Good piece of protect on the plate by Tommy right now. He's got his weight back, keeping that weight.

SPEAKER_07

Sergeant Bluff now leads 13 to 1 over Carroll. Here's the pitch. Fouled off again down the third baseline.

unknown

Straighten one out for me, huh?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, this is this is pitch number nine, I think, for Tommy on Edwards here. Good at bat. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. There's that sidearm fastball.

SPEAKER_07

It's out number two, and that will bring Caleb Lefaver to the plate. Walked and scored a run and flew out to left field his last time up. In there for strike one. No balls, one strike. Pitch to Caleb. Outside. Ball one. One ball, one strike. Peyton Erickson do up next. Pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Bounces that one in there. Two and one. Yeah, Edwards likes to bring that arm down, come from the side periodically. It's a good pitch when he gets that thing in the zone, but lost control of it there. Wind up. Inside ball three, three and one. Same pitch. You can tell he's being really careful with Lefavre.

SPEAKER_07

Here's the delivery to Caleb. That was strike two. Full count. Three balls, two strikes, two outs. Nobody on. Crusaders lead this one four to nothing in the bottom of the fourth inning. Here's the pitch. Oh, just shot him. Swing and a miss. Strike three. Crusaders go three up, three down. In their half of the fourth. We're gonna head to the fifth. Crusaders lead four to nothing. We'll be back in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_19

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_07

Top of the fifth inning coming up here.

SPEAKER_04

That's just an that's that's crazy numbers, Mike. Yeah, that's less than one every, I think, 11 or 12 at bats.

SPEAKER_07

Here's the first pitch. Just misses ball one. One ball, no strike.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I like that. Nice curved ball. Tried to catch the inside on the black on the inside corner. Good pitch. Just missed it.

SPEAKER_07

Here's the pitch. That's a good foul out of play. Don't say heads up because everybody looks up. And they take it right in the eye.

SPEAKER_04

You know, when Nathan's confident, you can see it because he'll go with that curveball slider on the inside corner, and he's not afraid to throw it. Here's a pitch. Just misses outside. Two balls, one strike. And that's what we've been seeing from him the last three games. Really hitting that inside, outside corner.

SPEAKER_07

Caswin delivers. Inside ball three. Three balls, one strike. Now he's got to battle back here. Storm Lake thus far has only had one base runner, and he was thrown out at third. Here's the pitch. Fouled off out of play. Brings the count full.

SPEAKER_04

Three and two. Good pitch by Nathan. Fast ball outside corner. And Peyton took one. Umpire doing what the umpire should be doing. Kind of circling the plate, giving giving Peyton a little time.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I can't tell if Peyton's smiling or wincing, but knowing him, he's a tough kid. He's probably smiling.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, no, the ump ump's doing a good job. Came over here, said he needs some more balls, and I don't think he really did, but he's let Peyton get a little time to walk that off. I think he got it on the hand, Mike.

SPEAKER_07

Everybody's back in, ready to go. Nathan ready to pitch. Here it is. That's ball four. Just a second base runner for Storm Lake tonight. And that will bring Phelps to the plate. He is the one who walked the last time up and then was thrown out at third base. Trying to steal on the ball that got away from the first baseman.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, they're gonna pinch run for Edwards, it looks like. Uh number. Boy, I can't see the number. They don't have him on the front. Yeah, I'll have to wait till we until he turns around here, Mike.

SPEAKER_07

Nathan checks the runner at first base. Here's the pitch. Just misses low for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Check the runner. Here's the pitch. That's it. Beautiful. Great catch by Tommy Carroll out there.

SPEAKER_04

He had to go a long way to make that catch. That's a hit any other night. Tommy got a great jump on that. Caught that thing right on the foul line, Mike, and he had to run a long ways for that. Yeah, out number one.

SPEAKER_07

That is only the fourth out that's been recorded that hasn't been a strikeout. Nathan checks the runner at first base. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

That's in there for strike one. No balls, one strike. Just paint in that corner. Payton doesn't even move his glove on that one. Great job, frame.

SPEAKER_07

Check the runner and deals for the plate. High for ball one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, tried to get him up there by the numbers, see if you can get him swinging on that one.

SPEAKER_07

Nathan Deals for the plate. That's popped out. Chase Beck's gonna settle under it for out number two. And that will bring Taylor to the plate, who struck out his first and only time up. Update from Sergeant Bluff. They now lead Carroll 13 to 4.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, good piece of pitching by Nathan. And the good part about it, he's probably only thrown eight eight pitches this this inning, keeping his numbers down. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_07

Outside, ball one. One ball, no strikes. Gasmint checks the runner at first base. And he's just hit him.

SPEAKER_04

And that hit him. Yeah, just caught him on the arm.

SPEAKER_07

Runners at first and second for Storm Lake with two outs, and that will bring Drew Hogreef to the plate. He struck out his first and only time up.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I gotta come right back to that same pitch inside corner. Can't be afraid to go right at him again here. Oh, I see. Must must have been from one of the kids out there playing behind the fence. The ball got thrown over.

SPEAKER_07

Two outs for Storm Lake. They've got two on. And Hogreef steps in.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, huge, huge a bat here. And Nathan just needs to keep coming back. Come back inside corner, outside corner. Forget about that last bat.

SPEAKER_07

Ready to go here. Nathan steps on the rubber. Checks the runner at second base, and here's the pitch. There it is. That pitch in there for strike one.

SPEAKER_04

No balls, one strike. Yeah, I like that. Came right back at him. Now you can do some things here. You gotta get you get the get the batter guessing here. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_07

Swing in a minute for strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Well, he called him going around. There we go. Don't give him nothing in his wheelhouse here. Maybe that slider on the outside corner, Mike. Long look in. It checks the runner at second base and deals to the plate.

SPEAKER_07

Just misses outside for ball one. One ball, two strikes. Nathan ready to deal. Here's the pitch. Beautiful pitch. Got him looking for strike three. Storm Lake puts two runners on, unable to push anybody across. We're headed to the bottom of the fifth inning. Crusaders lead four to nothing. We'll talk to you again in 60.

SPEAKER_19

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_07

Welcome back. I'm Mike Skaggs, joined by John Tritz. Healan will send Peyton Erickson, Nathan Gaslint, and Dylan Knapp to the plate here in the bottom of the fifth.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, a few more of our sponsors here. Mike, Liberty National Bank, Lightform, Mill Shellhammer Pitts, Neil Pfeiffer, KOC Insurance Agent, Prime Bank. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healen Baseball and Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_07

Peyton steps in, hit by a pitch his first time up and scored a run. And popped out to the shortstop his last time up. Here's the first pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Third time around for these guys, seeing Edwards. They know what he throws. You've got to keep your weight back. You're going to get that curve ball, and he throws that thing for a strike. You keep that weight back. Take it to right field.

SPEAKER_07

Pitch outside for ball two. Two balls, no strikes. That's going to be trouble. And it's grounded out softly to the third base. Got it. And that away.

SPEAKER_04

Peyton Erickson with wheels beats that out down to first base. I mean, that goes in the book as a frozen rope single, Mike. That was a pinstripe streak heading down the first baseline there. Yeah, just a little dribbler down to third base. You know, sometimes you need those after the hard-hit ones that get caught.

SPEAKER_07

So Brody Shaner goes down to courtesy run for Peyton Erickson. Nathan Gansman will step in. He had a two RBI single his first time up.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Brody's the one last time took off from second base. That great lead and just showed excellent speed between second and third base to score that run.

SPEAKER_07

Bounces in there for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, this is a good pitch right here for a hit and run. I don't know if Coach Taylor will be aggressive on this one or not. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_07

Two balls, one strike. Dylan Knapp do up next. Brody back in time. He was going on that one.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, he was. He was really lean and pitch. That's a low that's a low throw back to first base. I think they got him, but throw was up high, and Brody was able to get underneath it.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, he was way out there with that lead. Throw over again. Back in time.

SPEAKER_04

It's a good thing he's about 6'3 or 6'4. That's another one. Didn't realize how tall he was until I was standing next to him. I can say that about a lot of people though, Mike.

SPEAKER_07

I wasn't gonna say anything, John. Here's the pitch. Shaner goes. Yep. That pitch in there for a strike. And well, he's out at second base. He must have slid off the bag there just a little bit. Yeah, the ball key was in.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it looked like he was in. Ball was perfect. I mean off a bounce right into the guy's glove, and he didn't move the glove, and that's the only thing I can think of, too, is he must have bounced off the base. Pitch of Nathan was a strike, so it's two balls, two strikes. Oh my! He turned on that one, Mike.

SPEAKER_07

It's fair. All I can tell you is it's fair because he's still running. I couldn't see how far it went.

SPEAKER_04

That thing hit the top of the f- Looks like it hit the top of the fence and bounced back in.

SPEAKER_07

I got that I got that feeling reaction from the dugout. Almost a home run for Nathan Gas when he doubles off the top of the fence, wall, whatever you want to call it out there.

SPEAKER_04

And that'll bring Dylan Knapp to the plate. Yeah, we talked about it. He is such a he's such a funny hitter. You don't know where to play him because he turned on that one left field, and you know, you you lean to the left thinking he's gonna hit it over there, and he'll poke one down the right field line or left center. Jonas going in to run for Nathan.

SPEAKER_07

So Nathan comes out to rest up to go back out and pitch this next inning.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, he turned on that. Great job hitting by Nathan Gaslin.

SPEAKER_07

So Dylan steps in, struck out his first time up, hit by a pitch his last time up, and scored a run. Here's the pitch to Dylan. That's in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Jackson Vickery do up next. Yeah, Dylan's gonna get that same pitch. Checks the runner at second.

SPEAKER_07

And throwback to second. Jonas back in plenty of time. Again, reminder the Healing Girls softball team plays Spencer tomorrow night at 7 o'clock, and that will be out at Riverside Park.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, get out there and support the Crusaders. What a great season they're having. Here's the pitch. Outside, ball one. One ball, one strike. Yeah, he come just just like we just said, he came right back with that curveball. He's I wouldn't be surprised to see him throw it again, Mike. He's trying to outgast Dillon here.

SPEAKER_07

Long look, checks the runner at second, and here's the pitch. Swinging a miss, strike two. One ball, two strikes. Yeah, kept that ball up in the zone. Bottom of the fifth. Crusaders lead this one four to nothing. Checks Jonas at second. And the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

That bounces in there. Two balls, two strikes. Yeah, you gotta protect here. You gotta get close to the plate, choke up a little bit. Anything close.

SPEAKER_05

Checks Jonas back at second. Here we go.

SPEAKER_07

And here's the pitch. That pitch foul down the first baseline. Oh, he almost made a play at that mic. First base made a long run, slid and tried to catch it, hit off his glove. Would have been a great play on his part. Yeah, great effort. So we'll reset. Two balls, two strikes, one out. Jonas Jensen at second base. Courtesy running for Nathan Gaswin, who hit one off the top of the fence. Check of the runner. And throwback.

SPEAKER_04

Jonas back in plenty of time. Now, this is what speed does, though, right here, Mike. I mean, Jonas's got some serious wheels, gets a great leadoff. He's got Edwards a little nervous up here. I mean, he's getting a look at that mammoth leadoff. That pitch high. Three balls, two strikes. Yeah, that's that fastball. He's throwing it high the last two pitches.

SPEAKER_07

Check if Jonas down at second. And here's the pitch. Oh man, he broke that. Oh, and Jonas doubled up at second base. Dillon flew out the center field, and they were able to double Jonas up at second base for out number three. Boy, Dillon rope that ball. That will retire the side for the Crusaders in the bottom of the fifth inning. Healan leads us in four to nothing. We will be back to share the sixth inning with you in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_19

And now back to your Crusader sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_07

Crusaders lead four to nothing. Storm Lake will send Rylan Richardson. David Gonzalez Santos and Bobby Backman to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Is there a limit? Are they trying to keep him at 40?

SPEAKER_07

I think that's the plan. I unofficially have him at 26, so I'm guessing either way, this is going to be the last inning that we're going to see from him tonight.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, not unless he gets a three-pitch inning, which we saw in Denison, I think. Or a five-pitch inning.

SPEAKER_07

Richardson steps in. He struck out his first and only time up, and here's first pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, beautiful pitch. In there for strike one. No balls, one strike. Yeah, he's really got it working tonight, inside out. Hitting those corners. Here's the pitch. Misses outside. Ball one. One ball, one strike. You know, I don't mind when they miss and they miss low like that. That's a good pitch because you're trying to get them to kind of sucker for that pitch.

unknown

Oh!

SPEAKER_07

Popped up, Caleb. He's got room. Peyton Erickson runs a long way. Just misses that in front of the Crusader dugout. One ball, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Great effort by Peyton. That's a tough play. You got an unforgiving fence you're gonna run into, and you're kind of unsure. But he did a good job getting there and sliding cleat first in. Try to make that play. Yeah, he had a lot of help from his teammates there.

SPEAKER_07

It's how close he was getting to the fence. So Richardson steps back in. One ball, two strikes. So that slider here comes. Yeah, beautiful. That is popped up. JJ Hope calls everybody off, makes the catch for out number one. And that will bring David Gonzalez Santos. He struck out and flew out to left field.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, this is this is the big out right here. I mean, solid hitter hitting 493 coming into this game. 568 on base percentage. I mean, this is a big out. You get through him. You really only got two other guys that make really good contact. Here's first pitch.

SPEAKER_07

Outside ball one. One ball, no strikes. Pacman is due up next. Here's the pitch. That bounces in there for ball two.

SPEAKER_04

Two balls, no strikes. Yeah, he's Gonzalez. He's a solid looking kid. I mean, he's a big kid. That ball caught Peyton right there in the inside of his thigh, Mike. A little gingerly there.

SPEAKER_07

Nathan starts to wind up, and here's the pitch. That's high for ball three. Three balls, no strikes. Again, if you just joined us, table of favors started and struck out eight batters in three innings. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

That pitch in there for strike one. Three balls, one strike. Yeah, beautiful pitch on the inside corner. You got to be careful with him. You don't want to give him anything that he can get the barrel of his bat on. So I'd stay on that inside corner. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_07

Just misses ball four. Gonzalez reaches for the first time tonight on a walk, and that will bring Bachman to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, he didn't miss by much on that, just a little high. Could have gone either way on that pitch. Now you got Gonzalez on first. One thing that Nathan does better than anybody, he manufactures factures ground ball. So love to see one here, maybe get us in a double play situation.

SPEAKER_07

Nathan checks Santos over at first, checks him again, and here's the pitch. That pitch fouled off out of play for strike one.

SPEAKER_04

No balls, one strike. Good pitch on the outside corner. Kept it about knee high.

SPEAKER_07

Nathan ready to go here. Looks in for the sign. Check the runner at first. Come set. And the pitch. Outside, ball one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Slider just a little bit on the outside corner there.

SPEAKER_07

Just Nathan with another long look in here. Check of the runner at first. Steps off.

SPEAKER_04

Nathan steps off, will reset. Yeah, he's got him a little buffaloed over there. He doesn't like. One ball, one strike, one out.

SPEAKER_07

Crusaders lead four to nothing. Throw over.

SPEAKER_04

Santos back just in time. Yeah, Santos gets a really big lead.

SPEAKER_07

Nathan deals to the plate. There's that hit. JJ hoping short off his glove. He had to go way to his left to get that. Off his glove. JJ disappointed with himself on that. So that'll put runners at first and second. With one out here in the top of the sixth inning. That'll bring Bocher to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

JJ was just trying to make the play before he the ball was hit right there to his left. Perfect ball for a double play, and he knew it. He was trying to make the play before he had the ball in his glove. Bobbled it.

SPEAKER_07

That was that ground ball you're talking about that Nathan was able to produce.

SPEAKER_04

Yep. That's perfect. It was a perfect hit ball for a double play. Here's the pitch. I mean, sometimes you just got to call a spade a spade, and if you talk to JJ, he's gonna kick himself after the game.

SPEAKER_07

That pitch fouled into the heel and dugout for strike one. No balls, one strike. Edwards is due up next. Here's the pitch. Bounces in there for ball one. One ball, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Well, now you got a battle here. They got guys on first and second. They got situation baseball here, Mike.

SPEAKER_07

Here's the pitch. In there for strike two. One ball, two strikes. Again, should this score hold up and the score in Sergeant Bluff remains what it is? It will be Healing and Sergeant Bluff on Monday night at 7 o'clock from East High School. Check the runner at second. Checks him again, and here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Outside. Two balls, two strikes. Yeah, Nathan looked like he lost his balance when he was coming down on his plant. Curveball just got away from him a little bit or so.

SPEAKER_07

Checks the runner at second base and deals. That's in there he got three. Beautiful pitch. Got Bocher looking for out number two, and that will bring Edwards to the plate.

SPEAKER_05

Two on, two out.

SPEAKER_04

309 hitter coming into the game, one of their three guys that we were talking about. Between Gonzalez Santos, uh, Trey Betcher and Edwards here. These are the three guys, Mike. Here's the pitch. Oh, beautiful inside slider. Strike one, no balls, one strike. That's just such a tough pitch to hit. You really freezes the batter.

SPEAKER_07

Batter steps out.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Yeah, Nathan had a little trouble seeing the signal.

SPEAKER_07

We'll get reset here. Batter steps back in. Nathan checks the runner at second base. Here's the pitch. Topped up. Popped up. JJ Hope comes in, makes the catch at shortstop for out number three. Storm Lake. Two runners on. Can't push anybody across. We're going to head to the bottom of the six. Crusaders lead this from four to nothing. We'll talk to you back here in 60.

SPEAKER_19

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_07

Headed to the bottom of the sixth inning, Crusaders lead Storm Lake 4-0. They will send Vickery Moravik and Beck to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

We're going to give our sponsors one more time. The tournament sponsors here, Mike Brad and Heather Gaswent, Roger and Anita Gaswent, Tim and Lisa Swadin, Don and Lisa Clays, Legacy Financial, John and Lisa Tritz, Mike and Anne Marie Skaggs, Jeff and Kathy LaFaver, Dave and Rachel Vickery, Cole and Leah Knapp, and Chad and Angela Erickson. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healand Baseball and Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_07

And there's still time to sponsor the Crusaders on the tournament trail. You can email the station or give them a call on Monday, and they will get you all set up and add it to the list. Here's the first pitch to Vickery. Low for ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's this is this is huge here. Bottom of our order. See if we can get some damage done here.

SPEAKER_07

That pitch in there for strike one. One ball, one strike. Vickery is reached in both of his previous plate appearances. He singled in the first and walked in the third. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Boy, he tanked on that.

SPEAKER_07

Left fielder backs up about five steps and makes the play, but he did hit that hard. Man. Out number one. That'll bring Mason Moravic to the plate. He struck out his first time up and walked his last time up.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, good job of staying back on his back on his back foot, keeping the weight back and taking that curveball. I mean, they're gonna get it at some point, Mike. You're gonna get that curveball. Here's the first pitch. Yeah. In there for strike one. No balls, one strike. And right on cue. There's that curveball outside corner. That's his go-to pitch for a strike. Ooh, quick pitch. That was interesting. Almost shot putted that thing.

SPEAKER_07

Chase Beck, do up next. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Boom. There he goes.

SPEAKER_07

Shortstopped head. Moravic reaches with the single. Runner first base for the Crusaders with one out, and that'll bring Chase Beck to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

He'll be followed by JJ Hope. Yeah, this is this is huge. Bottom of the order. Guys are almost putting wood on the ball on the wood on the ball, getting the barrel right there.

SPEAKER_07

I'd like to see him get down. I'd like to see Caleb get one more bent. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Check the runner, and here's pitch. That's way outside for ball one. One ball, no strike. I know we talked about it in between the innings, Mike, but Edwards has got to be getting close to his pitch count. Yeah, I've unofficially got him at 96.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. Checks Moravic at first and deals. Oh my! Chase turns into that one. Oh no no no we got we got a pickle here. Nope. Nope. Everybody safe. Oh man. Chase Pennick just missed home run number two there, folks.

SPEAKER_04

That was a moonshine out there. Dan LaFleur got to see that one. He actually was at the game tonight, so that's a muscle. Boy, he has been right on cue the last two games, three games. Been really swinging a hot bat. At the right time.

SPEAKER_07

JJ Hope steps in. Runners at second and third with one out. Crusaders lead four to nothing. Here's the pitch. Way outside. Ball one. One ball, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

There's perfect chase back sitting back on that curveball, just like we talked about. Just keep the weight back. You're gonna get the pitch.

SPEAKER_07

Long look in and the pitch. Way outside, ball two, two balls, no strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Tommy Carroll do up next. Yeah, here we go. Two guys on. These two runs would be huge going into the seventh inning because get a little more breathing room than the four we currently have.

SPEAKER_07

Here's the pitch. Fool JJ on that one. Swinging a miss, strike one. Two balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's that curved ball. I'd look for him to come back with that. JJ may be setting him up on that one. Here's the windup and the pitch.

SPEAKER_07

Hit him up the short stump. That was a hard hit ball. JJ Hope reaches with the single, and that makes a score five to nothing. Runners at first and second. Still only one out. He reached on an air and scored a run his first time up. Single and it struck out. Yeah, just hitting the ball hard.

SPEAKER_04

When he hits it, he's hitting the ball hard. I can see him continue that here.

SPEAKER_07

Check of the runner at second and the pitch. Tommy Squares wants it. Tough play. Carroll sacrificed pitcher to first. That moves the runners up. That puts runners at second and third with two outs, and that will bring Caleb Lefaver to the plate.

SPEAKER_04

I love it. I mean, you give yourself up. Tommy's been been swinging a hot bat, but that's a perfect example of you. You got to do what's what's good for the team. And what's good for the team right here was to get these two guys in scoring position with your best contact hitter coming up. And you asked in between innings, you said really like to see Caleb get one more chance at this, and here we go. Caleb's got another chance to do some serious damage. So Edwards night is done.

SPEAKER_07

And they will bring in center fielder Ryland Richardson. Edwards will go to second. And Kale Phelps will go to center field. So while we've got the new pitcher warming up, let's go ahead and take a one-minute break and we'll be back.

SPEAKER_07

Back at East High, we've got runners at second and third for the Crusaders here in the bottom of the sixth. They lead five to nothing. Caleb LaFaver, do up next.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Edwards did a really good job for Storm Lake. Now I know why he was four and two coming into the game with the 2.28 ERA. I mean, he's tough. He is a solid pitcher, and and we did a really good job tonight making good contact when guys were in scoring position off of him.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, he was he was down on himself out there at second base when he made the switch, but he's got nothing to be ashamed of.

SPEAKER_04

No, absolutely not.

SPEAKER_07

Here's the first pitch to Caleb. High for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Peyton Erickson do up next. Here's the pitch. Inside corner for strike one. One ball, one strike. Got an umpire behind us who didn't agree with that call.

SPEAKER_04

Here's the pitch. That's trouble. That's trouble. That's down.

SPEAKER_07

Caleb LeFavor doubles. Two RBIs for Caleb LeFaver on that double. That will bring the score to seven to nothing Crusaders. Caleb down at second base with only one out.

SPEAKER_04

Mike, that's why you cannot play him. Everybody looks at the spray chart on Caleb LeFavor thinking he's going to pull, pull, pull. And they go over there. Nobody can go opposite field when they want to, probably as good as Caleb. He does a great job inside out with his fist. Took that thing right over the third baseman's head down the line. Two run score.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, what a what a night for Caleb. Struck out eight in three innings and just had a two RBI double in what could possibly be his last at bat for the Crusaders, depending on what happens this weekend. Here's the pitch to Peyton. That's in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, good curved ball in the outside corner there.

SPEAKER_07

Nathan Gass might do up next. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike two.

SPEAKER_04

No balls, two strikes. Yeah, curveball in the outside corner again. He's got him down 0-2. He's either going to throw a waist pitch up high or can probably come back with that same curve thinking he can get him to chase it a little bit.

SPEAKER_07

Pitcher comes set and checks the runner at second. Here's the pitch. Fouls on and off. Count remains. No balls, two strikes. Peyton hit by a pitch in the first inning and scored a run. Popped out to the shortstop. Second time up and singled his last time up.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, good job protecting by Peyton. And this is what you got to do. I mean, got to keep that weight back, protect the plate. Here's the pitch. Boy, he just missed that one. That's high fly ball to center.

SPEAKER_07

And Peyton flies out to center field for out number three. Crusaders push three more runs across. They lead this one seven to nothing as we head to the top of the seventh inning. Come back and visit in 60 seconds.

SPEAKER_19

And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.

SPEAKER_07

I just did a serious no-no between innings, folks. Hopefully it doesn't come back to haunt us. Pitching change, JJ Hope comes in to finish this game off for the Crusaders. Hendrix Teaton goes to second base. Chase Beck goes to short. Nathan Gaswin goes back out to Rome right field, and Tommy Carroll moves back over to his home in left field.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, great job by Nathan. I mean, we've seen Nathan now. That's 13 innings, Mike, in the last week and a half, I think, of just solid, solid pitching. And uh that's a good sign for the Crusaders here as we move hopefully on to the next round.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, he only threw by my count 45 pitches, so that makes him available for Monday night. Storm Lake will send Kale Phelps, Hazelle Garcia, and Carson Taylor to the plate to try to put a couple runs across and cut into this Crusader lead.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we talked about it. You know, for us to keep going in the playoffs, we need JJ Hope, and we got an inning out of him at Dennison. He looks solid. Here's first pitch. That pitch is high for ball one.

SPEAKER_07

One ball, no strikes. Phelps reached on a walk and was thrown out 965 in the second and flew out to right field his last time up. That pitch inside for ball two.

SPEAKER_04

Two balls, no strikes. Yeah, just a little high on his release right now. He's coming. The ball's coming up by about number high right now. He just needs to follow through. Just play catch with just play catch with Peyton. Here's the pitch. There, just like that. That pitch in there for strike one. Two balls, one strike. Yeah, beautiful pitch on the outside corner.

SPEAKER_07

JJ in the wind up and the pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike two.

SPEAKER_04

JJ's coming, throwing some gas tonight, Mike. Two balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_07

JJ starts his wind up, and here's the pitch. That pitch fouled off. Count remains two and two.

SPEAKER_04

I like it. He's not messing around. He's just coming with the heat tonight. Wind up by JJ and the pitch. There we go. That's a great sign. We saw it at Dennison. He came out, started like this. Another job. Just rear back and throw it. Let our defense make the plays. You got a seven-run lead. That's the 12th strikeout for Crusader pitching tonight.

SPEAKER_07

Garcia steps in. He struck out and flew out to second baseman. No balls, one strike. Swing and miss, strike two. No balls, two strikes.

SPEAKER_04

Carson Taylor, do up next. Yeah, kept that ball low outside corner.

SPEAKER_07

Working quick. Here's the pitch. Swing and miss, strike three. 13 strikeouts for Crusader pitching tonight. That's gonna bring up Carson Taylor. He's the last hope for Storm Lake here in this game.

SPEAKER_04

This is a huge, huge sign for the Crusaders when JJ's throwing, and this is as hard as I've seen JJ throw in in the appearances that he's made this year. That pitch.

SPEAKER_07

This is for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Here's the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Swing and a miss. One and one. Great job by Peyton on the outside corner there, keeping that mit there, focusing.

SPEAKER_07

Wind up by JJ in the pitch.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, window.

SPEAKER_07

Swing and a miss. Strike two. Are we going to start this game with three strikeouts and end the game with three strikeouts here, John? JJ starts the wind up. Here's the pitch. Oh. That pitch fouled off.

SPEAKER_04

Count remains one ball, two strikes. I don't think he's trying to hide it, Mike. I think he's saying, I'm not throwing a curveball tonight. I think he's throwing basically about ten straight fastballs here.

SPEAKER_07

JJ with the wind up and the pitch. Oh. That pitch way high for ball two. Two balls, two strikes. Well, in his defense. Taylor is tall. He's just not seven five. No. JJ starts his wind up and the pitch. That pitch fouled off. Count remains two and two.

SPEAKER_04

Crusaders lead here seven-nothing, two outs. Just come right at Peyton here. JJ, let's finish this thing. Here's the wind-up and the pitch.

SPEAKER_07

No, got it in for strike three. That's it. Started the first inning with three consecutive strikeouts. You can say it right now, Mike. Ended the game with three consecutive strikeouts. For those of you who may not been keeping up at home, that's a combined no-hitter for Healing pitching tonight. That is awesome. Just a beautiful game. Great job by the Crusaders pitching tonight. It was great. Now they rest up a little bit and get ready for Monday night. They'll probably face Sergeant Bluff based on the last score I received. So it'll be the Crusaders and Sergeant Bluff here on Monday at 7 p.m. pregame at 6.45. If this is hopefully it's not. We have no idea what's going to go on for Caleb this weekend. It's a big weekend with the draft. But if this was possibly the last time we'll see him in a Crusader uniform, he left us with some memories. I mean he struck out eight and three innings, uh, had a two RBI double, his last at bat. Just great kid, great family, and and wish all the best to uh Caleb uh this weekend, and then they've got some decisions that they're gonna have to make as to whether or not uh he's gonna go pro, he's gonna go to college, uh, what the story is. But uh crusaders proved tonight that they're focused and ready for the playoffs.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, they they they continued everything that they were doing up in Denison, getting guys in scoring position, hitting the bottom of the order, stroking, stroking the ball extremely well. Chase Beck continues to have a hot bat, but let's talk about Caleb. You know, we we talked a little bit, maybe there was a little rust on there, hasn't seen live pitching or excuse me, live hitting in in quite a while, but he came out and there was none on it tonight. He was throwing gas tonight. Uh love to know what he was hitting on the on the gun tonight. Uh he had to have been in the in the mid-90s on some of those fastballs tonight, Mike. Yeah, there was there was no rust. There was definitely some WD-40 put on him. Well, let me tell you, Nathan Gaslin had to have been right around 90 tonight as well. He's in at least high 80s, 90, because he was throwing gas as well.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, that's the that's the Nathan we've seen the last few games. Yeah, that's it. That's the Nathan we're gonna need. And you know, hopefully uh we get to see some more of Caleb. And if those two are gonna pitch like that, if Caleb's back and those two are gonna pitch like that, it's gonna be they're gonna be a hard out in the playoffs.

SPEAKER_04

It's i if if we've got both those guys through these playoffs, our hitting starting to come around. I mean, if you look at it, the bottom and the middle to the bottom of the order did the damage tonight, Mike. Absolutely. And um, and it was huge. And that's what we need if we're gonna go and make a deep run uh in these playoffs, is is for the bottom of the order, middle of the order to do, you know, make contact, get some runs, so that that top of the order, you know, when they come up and they and they just continue to do what they've been doing all year.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, the uh with the exception of Caleb's two RBI double, uh five of the seven runs tonight were produced by the bottom of the order. Yeah. Uh getting on base, driving the runs in. So that's a positive sign. We've we've talked about it until we're Crusader blue in the face, but that's what they need to do, and they need to keep that up.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, and and you talked about Caleb uh eight strikeouts out of it out of nine outs. Well, the only out that wasn't a strikeout was his walk that he manufactured by throwing it into the right field and Gaswin throwing him out at third. So, really, there were no outs that he had other than that that weren't a strikeout. He just was on tonight. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Uh, one of the most more impressive performances that I've seen in the two years that I've been uh doing Crusader baseball on the radio and got a lot of young fans over here waiting to read the guys, future Crusaders.

SPEAKER_04

We got Jack Hope, JJ's little brother. We've got uh a couple of the Vanderloo boys hanging out with them.

SPEAKER_07

We will be back on Monday at 6 45 from East High. Crusaders will face Sergeant Bluff. If you're not doing anything Monday night, folks, come on out. If you do have something planned, change your plans and come out and support these guys. And let's see if we can't get another win on Monday, and then this is gonna be fun.

SPEAKER_04

Sergeant Bluff, this is this is it. Sergeant Bluff Healing. I'm can I mean, can we say it enough? I mean, it's a huge rivalry, and here we go next next Monday night. Yep, it'll be a big crowd.

SPEAKER_07

If you want to, if you're coming out, you're gonna want to get here early if you want a place to sit. But there's a lot of spots up on the hill. But if you want to be down close to the field, uh you're gonna want to get here early and get a good seat. And John and I are gonna we'll be right here along third baseline again, uh, ready to bring you guys the action. Thank you, Grace Todd, back in the studio. We didn't thank you enough tonight. Nope. Uh Ann Reed, we're still we're keeping you in our prayers. Tim Swadin, thank you for everything you do. We appreciate all of you folks that listen to Crusader Baseball. And if you can't make it to the game Monday night, tune in, have your friends turn in, turn tune in, have your family tune in, and we'll bring them Sergeant Bluff and Healing on Monday night. Thank you, Mike. We'll see you Monday.
