SPEAKER_11Welcome everybody. I'm Mike Skaggs, joined by John Tritz. We're here at Harlan Rogers Complex in Fort Dodge. We're going to bring you the matchup between the Healing Crusaders and the Fort Dodge Dodgers.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, what a what a great complex, uh, Mike. There's a reason why these guys have have held the state tournament here for so many years, this complex, second to none, probably in the Midwest, and we're playing right here on the main field at Harlan Rogers. Uh great atmosphere for the Crusaders against a great uh ball club in Fort Dodge.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, it's uh we we finally have an air-conditioned press box, John, and it's truly air-conditioned. So this is awesome. That's good. We're excited to do this for shifting gears from baseball. We did that uh all season long and appreciate everybody that listened. But uh, we're here for softball. And uh John, you played softball for a lot of years, so you you're the expert. You're gonna have to you're gonna have to carry me tonight, but uh fill everybody in on what you've learned as you've been walking around. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I've you know I've been looking forward to this all year, uh Mike being able to watch the Crusaders play softball. It's it's something that I did after playing baseball for so many years. So uh it this is music to my ears, getting to be able to come out here and and do this game. Uh, first of all, for Coach Andy Adams uh with Fort Dodge uh Perennial Powerhouse, folks. I mean, they're in the state tournament 25 straight years, uh, I believe was the number I heard, or in the regional finals for 25 straight years. Coach Andy Adams has a strong hitting team. She told me this is the strongest hitting team that she's had in 25 years. Uh they play a lot of small ball and uh they like to get their girls on, and then they got a couple girls that can just flat out swing and hit the ball. Uh the main girl in uh in El Adoster, uh, folks, she's hitting 595. She's got 12 home runs, 71 RBIs. That's the girl that they're trying to get their kids on to get her up to bat. And obviously, she's cleaned the bases several times. Uh they like to play clean, they're uh clean defensively. Um they play a huge schedule, they play all the perennial uh powerhouses, talking to their coach. They they don't skip anybody, they play Valley, they play all those teams. Um looking forward to watching her team, and this is just a great opportunity for the Healing Crusaders to play here and play this kind of team. And for Coach Kylie Luke's, uh, what a great season she's had. Uh talked to her a little bit before the game. They got an exceptional uh catcher in Moody. Um we're gonna see Fitzpatrick on the mound tonight. Uh just you know, two two great ball players. And uh, you know, and for her, I talked to her and she said in order for them to win this thing, they got to keep it close. They got to be able to field the bunts. We like to play small ball as well, and we got a couple girls that can just flat out hit it. Uh Pitcher Fitzpatrick, she likes to throw the screw ball, she likes to throw drop ball, she works east to west. She'll throw that rise ball periodically, Mike. And um, but really uh talking to her dad and and one of the assistant coaches, Coach Fitz, said she just really likes to throw that screw ball. I'm really looking forward to seeing some of these girls tonight. We've been talking about uh eighth grade Dan and Brink girl. Uh she's got to be leading the state and hitting. She's hitting 712 folks, and for anybody that's been around baseball or understands baseball, that's an unheard of number. She's got 42 hits and 59 at bats. Um just incredible. Eliana Ross, another one, 378, just hits the heck out of the ball. Uh of course, Emma Moody, we talked about her hitting 336. Aaron Fitzpatrick hitting 358. Um Shannon Cleary hitting 451. Uh, and Sophia Lane hitting 388. We've got some girls that can put the bat on the ball, and as a team, we're hitting 345, of course. Uh just exceptional uh for a team Sioux City's caliber. Uh Coach Luke's just said this this season, senior leadership has been absolutely incredible, has really kept them close. We haven't seen 32 wins, Mike, in I think 10 to 15 years. So just just great ball.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, she had uh I I'd had a few conversations with her over the last few days, uh, mainly setting up uh being able to come over and broadcast this game, and she said that uh this is the most wins that Healing Softball has had in the past 15 years, and of course they earned the Missouri River Activities Conference uh championship this season. She said the team has celebrated a lot together, and but they've also uh faced some adversity, especially here in the last week or so. Uh and through every challenge, they've continued to lean on one another and play for something bigger than themselves. And I know in the interview you did with her earlier in the season and the one that I saw at Coach's corner on TV, she talked about that a lot, that they're playing for something bigger than themselves. And I think that's been a main focus of what she's tried to bring into this program and and instill in these girls. And uh, you know, a lot of these girls they've they've played at Healand before, so what she's done with this team, a lot of these returnees to get 32 wins and and have the most wins in 15 seasons at Healing is pretty impressive. And she told me this morning, she said, as as far as she knows, Healand has never beaten Fort Dodge. So uh, you know, it's gonna be a tall task for them, but uh they're ready for it and and they're up for it. And you know, it's easy to tell kids that hey they they put their uniform on the same way you do one leg at a time. But I mean when you get here you see all the all the state banners out along the outfield fence, and uh it's it's it's a pretty impressive uh sight and can be a uh daunting experience for a young team.
SPEAKER_02Like we talked about on the way up here, Mike. You just got to take the Fort Dodge off the uniform. You can't look at the name. You've got to go out and play your game. Play small ball, keep the defense uh clean, you know, limit your errors, and make the you know, when they're butting, they're a bunting team for Dodge. And in fast pitch, I mean it's a quick game. You get some left-handed slappers that can put that ball down, they can get first base in a hurry. You've got to be able to field and throw in one motion. Literally, you don't have time to bring that ball up, cock, and throw. You've got to you gotta you gotta field clean and throw in one motion to keep them off the base.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, absolutely. I've I've watched a lot of college softball over the last few years. What's the softball? Following Mike White and the Lady Longhorns, and and it is it's a fast game, and like you said, if if if it's hitting the infield, you've got to get it over quick because teams are girls are flying down the uh baseline there.
SPEAKER_02Yep. Yeah, we're announcing the announcing the players here right now, Mike.
unknownPositive comments and acts. What do you do?
SPEAKER_11The winner of this game, of course, will qualify for the state tournament that will be here in Fort Dodge next week. And like John said, it's pretty impressive complex, and and we had a chance to stop over and look at the uh Iowa Central and Fort Dodge St. Edmunds Field. And uh it's it's pretty nice over there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we got and and we got a lot of parents out here that made the trip over from Sioux City. You know, some people I know, a little shout out there to coach uh to Emory Moody out there. Uh Grandpa Fitzpatrick's also sitting down in front of us. The O'Hearns made the trip. Uh got to see Ron and John O'Hearn out there. Uh you know, the Moody's Dan uh and Melissa Moody are out there. Uh just thank you for coming down and supporting Bishop Heal and girls softball today, folks.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, it's great. Uh good crowd drove over, and a lot of Crusader fans down in front of us and a lot off to the right. I mean, I'm I'm excited to do this. First time I've I think it's the first time I've ever seen the Healing Girls softball team play, except whenever we were back to back up at Lamar's and and we did a quick, I don't know, inning or inning and a half of calling the softball game while the baseball game was in a break. So that's how quick softball is. I was able to get a whole inning of softball in while the baseball was in a break.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, I got a what got a chance to watch them uh a little bit against Spencer, got to watch them a little bit against North, uh a full game actually against North and a full game actually against East. We've got a good team, Mike. They're fun to watch. Uh they put bad on ball, uh they're fast, uh they're quick. Uh Elliot Annovaras uh at third base is as good a third baseman as you're probably gonna see. She's quick, uh, she's got a good arm. She she plays that position, and that's the key position. Uh, in when you're playing a team like Fort Dodge, you better have a good third baseman that can field the ground ball and field that line drive, you know, when they decide to slap. And the same thing with your first baseman. You've got to be able to play play it and pick it up clean.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, and this is this is a young healing team, so if they can continue to build and bring players in, they're gonna be good for years to come. And who knows, maybe next year this game can be in Sioux City instead of having to travel.
unknownEveryone please rise.
SPEAKER_02Yep, look right.
SPEAKER_11We're going to the national anthem, so let's take a two-minute break and we will be back.

SPEAKER_06And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_11Welcome back to Harlan Rogers Complex. I'm Mike Skaggs, joined by John Tritz, getting ready for the Crusaders and the Dodgers to compete. I'm going to go through the batting order for the Crusaders here. They come into this game with a record of 32 and 8. Leading off and pitching will be Aaron Fitzpatrick. She's hitting 358. Batting second, playing third base will be Eliana Ross. She's batting 378. Batting third and hitting 388 playing second base is Sophie Lane. Batting fourth and playing shortstop is Sophie Dannenberg. She's hitting 712. Batting fifth and playing center field, hitting 451 is Shannon Cleary. Batting sixth, Emma Moody, catcher. She's hitting 336. Batting seventh and designated player is Alexander Dannenberg. She's hitting 203. Batting eighth and playing left field is Isabel Laffin. She's hitting 287. Batting ninth, playing first base, Brooke Raymer come in hitting 311. And batting 10th playing right field, and the flex player is Kaylee Fulton hitting 211.
SPEAKER_02And heart and prayers go out to the Raymer family. Like to get that out of the way right now. Keep their family in your prayers. Um terrible loss for her and their family and their and their father. So I'm sure the whole community and the healing community uh prayers and and uh we're thinking about you tonight in this game.
SPEAKER_11That pitch in there for a strike. No balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_02Well, he's got that delay, Mike. And he's very deliberate with it.
SPEAKER_11So it's you think there's a seven-second delay, it's gonna be a ten-second delay here. That pitch fouled off for strike two. No balls, two strikes. Eliana Ross and Sophie Lane will follow.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'll start. Looks like she's got uh I've seen a rise ball out of her and and and a drop ball so far. Just kind of watching her warm up. She likes to throw that rise ball. Yeah, great, great eye by Fitzpatrick.
unknownVery good team, 32 and 8.
SPEAKER_11Here's the pitch. Pitch is low. Two balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, great change up by Allstott. Uh better, better holding up by Fitzpatrick. She was able to keep that weight back.
SPEAKER_11There's the windup and the pitch.
unknownNice.
SPEAKER_11Fouled off out of play. Count remains two balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_02That's a good at bat for Fitzpatrick. Taking two good, really good cuts.
SPEAKER_11Aaron steps back in. And here we go. Here's a pitch. She pops that foul into the ball. Catcher unable to make the play up against the fence, so we'll stay at two balls, two strikes.
unknownNumbers on the back.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, great job by Fitzpatrick. It looks like I'll stop. That's the second changeup we've seen, which is such a huge effective pitch in fast pitch softball, Mike, because they bring that ball so quick and they throw so hard. A lot of times that change up just gets you lean and a lot more so in softball than it does in baseball.
SPEAKER_11Fouled that one off. Count remains, two balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, great at bat by Fitzpatrick.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, she's doing a great job. Hey John, I see one of your relatives downstairs.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_11Imagine that. Halfway across Iowa, and you have a relative.
SPEAKER_02Shout out to Sister Barb and Sister Nancy.
SPEAKER_11Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_02Great.
SPEAKER_11That pitch inside for ball three. Counts full to Fitzpatrick.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, great eye by Fitzpatrick. Looks to me like Allstock trying to come inside on her, hit that inside corner.
SPEAKER_11And here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_02There we go.
SPEAKER_11Pitch high for ball four. Fitzpatrick draw draws the leadoff walk, and that'll bring Ross to the plate.
SPEAKER_02Folks, that's just great at pat by Fitzpatrick. Very patient at the plate, kept her weight back. And that's the key in fast-pitch softball. You got to have quick wrist, you've got to keep your weight back.
SPEAKER_11That's the 11th walk of the season drawn by Fitzpatrick. Ross will step in. She's got 31 RBIs on the season. 45 hits, 25 singles, 17 doubles, and three home runs.
SPEAKER_02I'm trying to see who our pinch runner is, Mike. I can't see the number on her on her jersey here.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, she needs to she needs to turn one more time and look at the outfield fence so we can see who it is. Eliana Ross steps in. Looks like number 11, John.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Eliana Ross hitting hitting uh I think 378 or three excuse me. Uh hitting 378, Mike. I'm trying to see what I'm saying eight, Eliana Ross.
SPEAKER_11That's Savannah Lor down at first base as a courtesy runner.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_11First pitch fouled off for strike one. Four Dodge. Four Dodge having a meeting of the mines out in the circle.
SPEAKER_02Eliana Ross. I mean, she looks like a ball player, man. She's she just looks confident. She's got a great arm just watching her in warm-ups alone. She's got a great arm. She's got a real powerful swing. Steps up in the plate. I love it. She's trying to catch that ball before it breaks.
SPEAKER_11Here's the wind up in the pitch. She swears the ball. Beautiful bond. Bunts it to the third baseman. Fitzpatrick down to second base. Ross out on the sacrifice. Six to three. That's first out. That'll bring Sophie Lane to the plate. She steps in, hitting 388.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just a great bump by Ross. I love it. You and I talk about small ball all year, Mike, and just a beautiful bunt putting Fitzpatrick in great position. And we got some situation baseball. You know, that chess match we talk about.
SPEAKER_11First pitch in for strike one. No balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, good cut by Lane. Real nice strong cut. Just missed it.
SPEAKER_11There's a look in and the pitch squares to bunt. Bunts out foul. No balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_02Not a bad bunt, just kind of rolled side, just a little bit left of the chalk line there, Mike. I like it. I like it. Got something going on. I don't know what we got going on.
SPEAKER_11Laura left early, so she is out. It's out number two.
SPEAKER_02Boy, that's a tough call. That's a tough call in fast pitch softball. You really because you're you're guessing.
SPEAKER_11Here's the pitch. Pitch fouled off. Fouled back out of play. No balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it looks to me like I mean Coach Luke is not happy about that call. And I don't blame her. That's a tough call to make because you're you're guessing that her foot's off that base when the when the pitcher releases, you can't leave the base until the ball's out of the pitcher's hand.
SPEAKER_11Here's the windup and the pitch. And they're low, ball one. One ball, two strikes. Sophie Dandenberg do up next. And the pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike three. Lane goes down swinging for out number three. Crusaders go down in order to start the game. We'll be back in 30 seconds for the bottom of the first.

SPEAKER_06And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_11We're back here at Hard on Rogers Complex. The batting order for the Fort Dodge Dodgers leading off, playing shortstop, hitting 432 is Hope Allstott. Batting second, playing center field, hitting 485 is Terran Ripentrop. Batting third, Ellie Doster playing catcher, she's hitting 595. Batting fourth and the designated player is Grace Nichols, she's hitting 494. Batting fifth, hitting 495 is Macy Wills playing third base. Batting sixth is Kaylee Zimmerman hitting 374, she's playing first. The pitcher is Aubrey Alstott, she's hitting 382. Here's the first pitch to Hope Alstadt. Outside, ball one, one ball, no strikes. Batting eighth is Meg Marsh. She's hitting 341, playing left field. Here's the next pitch. That sails over the catcher's head. Two balls, no strikes. Batting ninth is Emerson Lara. She's hitting 352, playing second base. And batting ninth, playing right field, hitting 325 is Melina Meyer. Two balls, no strikes, no hope all start. That pitch in there for a strike. Balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, beautiful pitch by Fitzpatrick. Nice drop ball in the outside corner.
SPEAKER_11Here's the wind up in the pitch.
SPEAKER_02There we go.
SPEAKER_11Fouled off out of play for strike two. Two and two.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's that screw ball that coach uh Fitzpatrick was telling me that his daughter throws there. Just a beautiful pitch. Outside corner. I mean, you look at their lineup, Mike. They're hitting 448 as a team. It's incredible.
SPEAKER_11Pitch just misses for ball three. Count is full to Hope Allstott. Terran Ripentrop is due next. Here's the pitch. That's fouled off out of play. Count remains. Three balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, another good pitch by Fitzpatrick. She's going right after him. She's got good velocity on her pitch. Throws that drop ball. Screw ball. Haven't seen that rise ball yet. Really keeps that thing on the outside corner, inside corner.
SPEAKER_11Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_02Beautiful pitch.
SPEAKER_11Line back up the middle. All start reaches with a single, and that will bring up Terran Rippentrop.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's just a good hit. That's a beautiful pitch by Fitzpatrick on the inside corner.
unknownCenter fielder, Terran Ribentrop. Terran 485. No homers and 37 runs battered in.
SPEAKER_11That's the sixth, I'm sorry, the 56th single of the season for Allstott.
SPEAKER_02And they will run. Fort Dodge will run. They'll hit and run.
SPEAKER_11Squares to Bunt. Pitches high for one for ball one. One ball, no strikes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Emma Booney gets her gets it gets a great jump on that. And she gets that ball in there coming up. She's cocked and ready to throw that ball. Great pop.
SPEAKER_11Here's the pitch. Swinging to miss, throw down to second. Great stop there to keep that going in the center field. One ball, one strike. All start down at second base with stolen base.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, here's that uh we call this uh this is a she's a slap hitter, she hits from the left side, Mike, and you'll see this a lot.
SPEAKER_11Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_02That beautiful bond.
SPEAKER_11Third baseman fields it. Everybody is safe. Allstott down to third, rip and trap over at first. Runners at first and third with no outs for four dodge here in the bottom of the first inning. Score is tied zero to zero.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's that slap hitting. Uh you come from the left side, and a lot of times you see a lot of teams with a lot of left-handed batters, and that's the reason why they they can either lay it down or they can slap either way. They got wheels. Ella Ross fielded that clean. Thought maybe she had a shot at first, but tried to get the girl back at third. Not not a bad move by Ella.
SPEAKER_11Ellie Dodster steps in, she squares. Ellie that pitch outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes.
unknownSo now the Dodgers and runners in second home.
SPEAKER_11And Ripentrop heads down to second base. So they've got runners at second and third with no outs here in the bottom of the first. It's Patrick ready, and she deals. Ellie Long that is hit to the that's gone. That's a three-run home run for Ellie Doster. Fort Dodge jumps out to a 3-0 lead here in the bottom of the first inning.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you got to keep it out of her wheelhouse. She got 12 home runs already on the season. That's number 13 and 74 RBIs, Mike.
SPEAKER_11That was a no-doubter.
SPEAKER_02When that left the bat, you knew it was out of the park. Yeah, that thing cleared by 15-20 feet easy. That's okay. You just take a deep breath in. If you're Fitzpatrick, you just got to take a deep breath in, uh, 0-0 ball game, and just and just start fresh here. Got to get out of the inning. You got to play our game.
SPEAKER_11Designated player Grace Nichols steps in. She comes in hitting 494.
unknownCleared the fence probably by a good 10 to 15 feet out left center field.
SPEAKER_11Here's the pitch by Fitzpatrick. Pitch high and inside. Ball one. One ball, no strikes. Macy Wills is due up next. Here's the wind up by Fitzpatrick. That pitch fouled off out of play. Strike one. One ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, great pitch on the outside corner by Fitzpatrick. You just gotta keep threading. You gotta manufacture a ground ball. Let your defense do the work here.
unknownCheck her out on Facebook today.
SPEAKER_11Here's the wind up by Fitzpatrick. She deals. That pitch misses low and outside. Ball two. Two balls, one strike. Yeah, definitely not the start the Crusaders were hoping for, but there's still a lot of lot of softball left.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely.
SPEAKER_11Here's a pitch.
SPEAKER_02That's out that's got room.
SPEAKER_11Two balls, one strike. Right. Tried to make a play on it, wasn't able to get to it.
SPEAKER_02Kind of landed in a weird spot over there. Actually, it landed on the ground on the other side of the dugout.
SPEAKER_11You know, that fence kind of kind of embraced that pitch lined out to right field for a single. First four batters for Fort Dodge have reached here in the bottom of the first, and that will bring up Macy Wills to third baseman. Yeah, that's the 24th single for Nichols on the season.
SPEAKER_02Just got to keep coming at them. Got to keep the ball down and out. Keep the ball away from the barrel of their bat. Got these left handers here, they're going to be coming, and uh and a lot of them are slap hitters, Mike, and and what they do is they come and they're running up, and they have to the front of the box before if they're out of that box, then they're out. So they'll start in the back and they'll run, they'll kind of come up. And you just got to keep the ball away from them because their right foot's gonna be away from the plate, heading down towards first base. Got to keep it out of the reach of the barrel of their bat.
SPEAKER_11Aaron checking with their infielders. Will steps in here.
SPEAKER_02And here's the pitch. There it is. Good throw by oh, just hit the hit the run around the slide.
SPEAKER_11Nichols steals second. That first pitch was strike one, no balls one strike.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, good job by Emma Moody coming up, throwing. She had really good pop time on that, got the ball down there, and just hit the runner as she was sliding.
SPEAKER_11There's a pitch by Fitzpatrick. That's hit out to right field. Right fielder. Oh, she fall falls down, trying to make the catch. One run will score. Great. And that is an inside the park home run for Wills. That makes the score five to nothing here in the bottom of the first.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you I think you gotta, I think you gotta call that an air, Mike. And then and then uh she obviously ran cleared the bases, she just kept running. Uh we had it. She had a clean catch on that. She just fell down and she was going to make the catch, and the ball just kind of landed in her hit her glove and bounced out. Yeah, good good time out by the coach.
SPEAKER_11Alexand Alexandra Dannenberg is gonna come in. She's got 17 starts on the season. 14 and 3 record, two saves. Teams are hitting 249 against her. She's given up 96 hits, 53 runs, 36 of those have been earned. She's walked 39, hit two, and struck out 100. She's got an ERA of 2.65.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and Danabring comes from the left side, Mike. Something a little different. Looks like she's got a really good rise ball there, and and uh just from watching the warm-up here, got good spin on the ball. Really good spin. Looks like that that's her change up there. Likes like she likes to mix that in.
SPEAKER_11Looks like we've got some position changes out there. I'm trying to keep up with here. It looks like Ellie Duster went out to right field.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just a real costly mistake out there. Um looks like she just tripped. I don't know if she if she tripped on something or uh and just fell as she was going to make that catch and um cost the Crusaders a couple runs, and just gotta we gotta refocus, regroup, get out of this inning.
SPEAKER_11Looks like Fitzpatrick is has moved to second base. Callie Zenmerman steps in here. And that pitch hits her.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, first pitch. I think she kind of threw uh looked to me like uh just a slow, either a changeup or a slow slider, and uh just kind of got got off when she released it. Kind of slipped off the tip of her fingers, hit her in the back.
SPEAKER_11Aubrey Allstott will step in. So every batter has reached base for four dodge to start this game.
unknownAubrey Allstott.
SPEAKER_11Here's the wind up in the pitch. That's foul toward the healing dugout. No balls, one strike.
unknownAlexandra Danenbring is 14 and 3 with a 2.65 ERA.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Danenbring really really has a nice pitch, comes, got a good release. He's got uh good width, got a great record, good ERA.
SPEAKER_11She looks in and starts her windup. Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, good job by Emma Moody.
SPEAKER_11Pitch high for a ball, one ball, one strike. Meg Marsh is due up next.
unknownThey won ten in a row, sixteen in the last seven.
SPEAKER_02Emma Moody just does a great job behind that plate. Going inside out, framing the ball.
SPEAKER_11Pitches high for ball two, two and one.
SPEAKER_02Playing her straight up. Eliana Ross. She's she's working her way in.
SPEAKER_11Here's the wind up in the pitch. Where's the bunt? Bunts that down the first baseline. Raymer feels it. Nobody at first base to throw it to.
SPEAKER_02Great play by Raymer.
SPEAKER_11Runner Zimmerman trying to reach all the way to third on that, and she is thrown out. That's out number one.
SPEAKER_02Great job by Raymer. She didn't have to play at first base, and and and the girl at first was going to second. Uh just kept running, thinking third wouldn't be covered, and Eliana Ross got back there quick to make the play, Mike.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, very heads up there by Brooke. Meg Marsh will step in. She's hitting 341 on the season.
SPEAKER_02And here we go. Got the first out. Just got to keep going at them. Manufacture a ground ball here. We've got a force out at second base.
unknownThird baseman, Eliana Ross.
SPEAKER_02Eliana Ross in. She's playing, she's playing close.
unknownLeft-handed pitcher, Alexander Handling, not yesterday catcher. Here's the pitch to Marsh.
SPEAKER_02That pitch is bunted foul. And this is what they do, Mike. You know, they're a bunting team. They bump for hits. This is why their batting average is so high. Is they're putting it down and they're saying, hey, you can't field it and pick it up clean and get it to first base before we're down there. They got quick, fast girls. Uh love to put the ball down and trying to make the Crusaders make a play.
SPEAKER_11Marsh steps back in. No balls, one strike, one out. Pitch outside for ball one, one ball, one strike. Again, Fort Dodge has scored five runs here in the bottom of the first inning to take a five to nothing lead. Here's the wind up and the pitch. High for ball two. Two balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_02Like the pitch, kept that ball up. About the number high. Good pitch by Danenbring. Just missed.
SPEAKER_11Wind up in the pitch. That's in there for a strike. Two balls, one strike. Two balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Danenbring's bringing it.
SPEAKER_11Emerson Lara is due up next.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, good drop ball.
SPEAKER_11Alexandria walks in, and here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_02Grover just pitch. There's a nice throw.
SPEAKER_11Good throw, just not able to make it.
SPEAKER_02Beautiful throw. Beautiful throw, and she slid around it. All the way back side of the bag, Mike. Get her hand on.
SPEAKER_11Emma Moody with the great throw down. It was there in time. Just a great slide by the runner. That last pitch was a ball to Meg Marsh. That makes the count full. Three balls, two strikes. Here's the pitch. That's ball four. Runners at first and second. One out here for Ford Dodge. They've already pushed five runs across here in the bottom of the first. Five runs on six hits. One error on the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_02So here we go. You know, now we got to force out at any base. Try to get something up the middle, maybe turn that double play. Either way, you've got to get that force out. Ross has given up third base coming in. Danenbring at shortstops moving her way over to cover third in case of a bunt.
SPEAKER_11Here's the pitch. She squares. That pitch low for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Everybody moving back to their position.
SPEAKER_02She got room. She's got room. Oh, just couldn't get to it.
SPEAKER_11Aaron Fitzpatrick gave a good run at it there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just out of her reach down the right field side in foul territory over there by the fence.
SPEAKER_11That pitch punted right after the pitcher. Gotta get the play. There you go. Beautiful play. Throw over to first. She's out. Sacrifice by Laura. Advances the runners to second and third. That's two outs.
SPEAKER_02Great job by Dan and Bring. Picking it up. I think she thought she had a play at home, but just great reaction to get the girl at first. Get that out. Two outs.
SPEAKER_11Runners to second third, two outs for four dodge. Melina Meyer steps in. Here's the pitch. Pitch in there for strike one. No balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, great pitch on the outside corner. Caught the black on that.
SPEAKER_11Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just a little bit high. Looks like she threw trying to throw that drop ball.
SPEAKER_11One ball, one strike to Allstott.
unknownSecond and third, two out.
SPEAKER_11Here's the pitch. Bounces in there. Emma Moody makes a great stop to keep that from getting to the backstop. Two balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, she throws that uh kind of her changeups, kind of a uh just a slow reacting slider where she spins the ball off her hip, Mike. And that one just just caught her hip and just didn't get the release, and obviously it hitting the ground before the home plate. And here's the pitch. There it is, same pitch.
SPEAKER_11Beautiful outside. Three balls, one strike, two outs. Runners in second and third. Fort Dodge has five runs across here in the bottom of the first.
SPEAKER_02Gorgeous pitch.
SPEAKER_11Ball four. Allstott walks to load the bases.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just a little bit outside, Mike. Dannenbring. Now you got bases loaded. You got a force out at any base. You know, so it's not not necessarily a bad walk. I mean, now you you bring up that force. You can go home, you can go third, second, first. Uh whatever's the easiest and closest, you got to take that out.
unknownNow she's got the base.
SPEAKER_11Ripentrop steps in, singled her first time up.
unknownEliana Ross.
SPEAKER_02Eliana Ross playing about halfway.
SPEAKER_09Now Rippentrop falls for time.
SPEAKER_11Patter steps out. Now we're back in, ready to go. And here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_02Beautiful. Looks like a uh slider up up top. Uh rise ball. In baseball, they call that slider, and in in uh softball, that's the rise ball. Sliding the upside corner there.
SPEAKER_11Swinging a miss, strike one, one ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_02Here's another one of their slap hitters. Starts in the back of the box, Mike. She's using the whole box, comes all the way back as far as she can, and then she'll start running up. That's how you do it. Beautiful field.
SPEAKER_11Let's hear what makes the catch for out number three. That will end the inning for Ford Dodge. They push five runs across on six hits and one heel and error. It's five to nothing after one inning. We will be back in 30 seconds.
SPEAKER_03What makes your home home? Is it a favorite reading corner? A growth chart on the door frame? A bunk bed that doubles as a fort? Home is that feeling of warmth and safety. SPEAKER_06And now back to your Crusaders courts on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_11Top of a second back here in Fort Dodge. Crusaders trail five to nothing. They will send Sophie Dann and bring Shannon Cleary and Emma Moody to the plate.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, tough first inning for the Crusaders, Mike, but some of it was uh self-imposed. Had a couple miscues that really cost the Crusaders two runs for sure. Uh had the girl at second base uh on a on a throw by Emma Moody, just a beautiful throw on one and where she slid around the tag. Uh we'll just clean that up and start playing some clean, clean softball, and we'll be okay. Dannenbring came in, did a great job pitching, Mike.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, just just need to start finding some positives. Yep, absolutely. And build from there. Not gonna get all five runs back at one time.
SPEAKER_02I mean Fort Dodge sends these left handers up and and anybody that's been around the fast pitch game, I mean a lot of especially the young kids are teaching these kids how to bat from the left side and become slap hitters. And Fort Dodge does a great has a does a great job of that as a great example of of taking those left handers, utilizing them, and and just creating situations, and that's really what it is. It's just situation baseball or excuse me, situation softball. Switch gears, John, switch gears.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, big shout out to Corey Webster. Thanks for listening. I know he followed us uh during the baseball season, tried to help us with some elect electrical issues a couple times. That first pitch outside to Dannenbring for ball one, one ball, no strikes. That pitch in there for strike one. One ball, one strike. Yeah, change up to Danen Bring.
SPEAKER_02It is a good three to four second delay on this umpire'st strike call. Oh, yeah, it takes a little while for us to kind of see what what he's calling. There's a tough hit. That's tough. That's a beautiful hit.
SPEAKER_11Center fielder races in, able to make the play for out number one. And that will bring Shannon Cleary to the plate.
SPEAKER_10Center field number 10, Shannon Cleary.
unknownCleary 451.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Cleary hitting 451 on the season. Really had a really nice season for the senior. 37 hits and 82 at bats, Mike. There's beautiful pit.
SPEAKER_11Oh, just missed. Soft liner. Shortstop was able to get over and make the play for out number two. And that will bring up Emma Moody the catcher. She comes in hitting 336. Had a really impressive first inning with some of the stops. And some of the throws down. Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_02Outside ball one. One ball, no strikes. Yeah, Emma just having a solid season, hit 336 on the season. Great job behind the plate. So everything you're getting out of her, that's just extra. I mean, just having a great year.
SPEAKER_11Oh, geez. Hit it hard right at my center fielder. Crusaders go up three up, three down here in the top of the second inning. We're gonna head to the bottom of the second. We'll be back with you in 30 seconds. Crusaders trail five to nothing.

SPEAKER_06And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_11Welcome back to Fort Dodge. We're heading the bottom of the second Crusaders trail this one five to nothing. Fort Dodge will send Ellie Doster, Grace Nichols, and Macy Wills to the plate here in the top of the second.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, of course, Doster in the first inning uh cleared the bases with that bomb out the left center field, which cleared the fence by a good 15-20 feet, Mike. You got to be careful with her. Can't give her anything in her wheelhouse. Uh you gotta really work either low inside or keep that ball low outside.
SPEAKER_11Give a shout out to Alicia Porsche, who runs the athletic office there at Healing, and also to Sophia, Cecilia, Charlie, Eloise, and Clara. Hi Clara, I finally answered you. Uh thank you guys for listening. So Doster will step in here.
SPEAKER_02Homer in the first inning. Three run Homer. I mean, just a dangerous hitter. It's got to be, I'm I'm guessing she's got to be leading the state in in in hits and RBIs. Just having a great year. Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_11First pitch in there, high ball one, one ball, no strikes.
unknownDodgers off with a great start, scoring five runs on the first. They batted 11.
SPEAKER_11Dan and Bring really came in and settled things down. Yeah, she did. Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_02That bounces in there again. Ball two, two balls, no strikes. Yeah, that's that changeup she's throwing. Uh just kind of catches her hip as it's coming through there and losing the grip. Yeah, and this is dangerous. I mean, you're two and oh on her. You've got to come for a strike, but you gotta be careful on where you put that thing. Here comes the pitch.
SPEAKER_11That one outside, bounces in there again. Three balls, no strikes.
SPEAKER_02Grace Nichols do up next. Yeah, trying to throw that change up again, trying to catch her off guard.
SPEAKER_11Pitch high for ball four. So four-pitch walk. Doster trots down to first base, and that'll bring Grace Nichols to the plate. She singled her first time up and scored.
SPEAKER_02Now we're gonna have a pinch runner for Doster. It looks like uh number ten for the Dodgers. That looks like Brooklyn Gilland.
SPEAKER_10Doesn't he play a rate? Grace Nichols.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Leonard Ross playing, playing way in.
SPEAKER_11Another left-handed batter, so you figure she's gonna be one of those slap hitters. Yep. Here's the first pitch. She squares to bunt. Pitches high.
SPEAKER_02Ball one, one ball, no strikes. Macy Wills do up next. Yeah, Danenbring. That's five straight balls for her. She's got to come in. Just gotta look for Emma to see where she's got that glove and and just paint it. Emma's sitting out there on the outside corner.
SPEAKER_11That pitch is in there for strike one. Inside corner, beautiful pitch. Nichols steps back in.
unknownAlexander again right on the center.
SPEAKER_02Here's the pitch. Yeah, Nichols to me doesn't look like she's uh from the left hand, but looks to me like she can either lay it down, uh slap the ball, or she can do a straight up hit. Looks to me like that's what she's doing here, Mike. She's a tall girl. Looks like she's got some power from the left side.
SPEAKER_11Moved up in the box here, so maybe she's not gonna try to slap. She's either gonna bunt her or full swing. Here's the pitch. Good pitch. Oh, just missed. Just missed on the inside corner. Three balls, one strike. We're a little off to the right of home plate, but as always, it looked good to the uh to us.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and you can't make you cannot make mistakes to this Dodger team. I mean, they're they're that good.
SPEAKER_11Nichols steps out. She steps back in now. She's ready to go. Dan and Bring looks in, starts her wind up, and here's the pitch. That pitch lined out to center field. That's off the wall.
SPEAKER_02She stroked that ball right off the top of the fence. That thing didn't leave about 10 feet off the air, Mike. That was a line drive right off the fence.
SPEAKER_11Yep. Long single there by Nichols. Runners at first and third. That'll bring up Macy Wills. She had the inside the park home run, aided by an error when the right fielder lost her footing out in right field.
SPEAKER_02She hit it and just kept running. Yeah, here we go now. No outs. We got force out at second. Got the girl on first. Look for them to do a double steal here, and well, at least a steal from first, hoping to get a double steal out of it if Emma throws down. There she goes.
SPEAKER_11Squares to bunt. I don't know if they really say for strike one. No balls, one strike.
unknownI don't know if they really call it.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, this is a huge out. I would imagine Nichols is going to be down to second base here in the next pitch or two.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean, Coach Adams is going to be aggressive. I there's no question about it. Here's the pitch. Just misses on that inside corner. One ball, one strike. Boys all of a sudden tighten that zone a little bit, Mike. Looks to me that I mean that looked good from here. I'm going to have to go back to the old.
SPEAKER_11That was on the inside corner for ball one. Wind up by Dan Bring. Here's the pitch. Yeah, sure.
SPEAKER_02Wills is a prototype slap hitter. She she gets that, she starts in the back of the box, keeps the bat out in front, brings it back, and then runs. If runs toward the front, trying to make contact before she's out of the box. Here's the wind up in the pitch. Throw home, not in time. You're gonna check third. I would be checking third on that. I thought she left early, but that's just me. Let's see if Coach Luke's seemed to think sees the same thing I did.
unknownSo one away that rank Callie Zimmerman to play.
SPEAKER_02Nope.
SPEAKER_11So Wills fly. Doster scores. That makes a score six to nothing. One out with Nichols at first base. Now we've got a force out at second base. Zimmerman steps in. She was the first batter that Dandenbring faced, and she hit her. She was thrown out at third. Here's the pitch. That's fouled off down the first baseline.
SPEAKER_02Strike one. No balls, one strike. Yeah, just another one of these left-handed hitters. Fourth Dodge brings to the brings to the plate. Aubrey Allstott is due up next. Yeah, she's way up in the box, Mike.
unknownPitched by the bigger.
SPEAKER_11And here's the pitch.
unknownShot right over the head.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just missed. Uh Danen Bring just missed, just right over a glove.
SPEAKER_11Singled for Callie Zimmerman. That'll bring Aubrey Allstott to the plate. She singled her first time up.
SPEAKER_02Aubrey every every every base except home.
SPEAKER_11Six runs on eight hits for Fort Dodge and one crusader error. No runs, no hits for Bishop Healing.
SPEAKER_02She's throwing good. She's putting that ball in there, keeping it tight. Here's the pitch. On that outside corner for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Man. That ball's either got to be high or low because that thing to me looked like that thing right on the black of the plate.
unknownThat's the most valuable asset.
SPEAKER_11Here's the wind up and the next pitch. That's it down to Raymer. He gets past Raymer at first base. Got to play it home. One run will score. Throw home, not in time. Gets to the backstop. Another run will score. Another one's going to score for the Dodgers.
unknownAnd it's now eight to nothing.
SPEAKER_11Brings the score eight to nothing for Dodge. Yeah, here in the bottom of the second inning.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the play the throw from uh single out to right field, throw home. Obviously, just went run over Emma Moody's head back to the back stop, uh, and their runners just kept going.
SPEAKER_11Allstott reaches on a single and advances all the way to third base on the overthrows.
unknownAnd all the way, by the way, the third on the play.
SPEAKER_11Eight to nothing here in the bottom of the second inning, one out with Allstott at third base, and Meg Marsh steps in.
SPEAKER_10And the Dodgers scored five in the first, and three here in the side.
SPEAKER_11Marsh steps in. She walked her first time up. And here's the pitch. Bunts and offers. Attempts to bunt and offers at it.
SPEAKER_02No balls, one strike. Yeah, and Coach Luke's is right. I mean, they lay the ball down. Uh I mean every one of them comes up, and they're either going to lay the ball down, only a couple of them are swinging away. Wind up in the pitch.
SPEAKER_11On that outside corner for ball one. One ball, one strike. Emerson Laura would be due up next.
unknownA lot of people wondering what the winners mean.
SPEAKER_11Here is the pitch. Bunted out to the first baseman. Overthrows the catcher. Run will score from third. Here's a throw out to second. Runner in there safely. So Marsh reaches on a single. Advances to second, and Allstott will score from third. That makes a score nine to nothing Crusaders here in the bottom of the second inning.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, beautiful bunt by Allstott and just uh went to make the play. Uh Raymer fielded it clean, threw at home, and it just got by the catcher back to the backstop.
unknownSecond base number 12, Emerson Lara.
SPEAKER_11Emerson Lara steps in. She sacrificed pitcher to first her first time up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Alania Ross in. Raymers in. Here's the pitch, squares the bunt.
unknownShows front.
SPEAKER_02Dodgers get right steal third and good throw by Emma down to third base. And runner slid around it. Marsh slid around that tag again.
SPEAKER_11And Emma even double clutched and was still able to get it down there.
unknownDodgers will look for their attempt farm.
SPEAKER_11Coached her a freshman year in volleyball, and she she's a good athlete. Yeah, she is. Yeah, just outside a little bit. Outside. One ball, one strike.
SPEAKER_02Be back to the top of the order with Hope Allstott. I mean, Fort Dodge puts pressure on you. They bunt the ball, they make you field it, and they're just gonna they're just challenging you, is all they're doing. Trying to make you make a play.
SPEAKER_11They came in as a number three team in the state, and it shows why. That pitch high for ball two. Two balls, one strike. Crusaders came in, ranked number 11.
unknownLast game, the Dodgers had an 11. Alexander Dan and Bring.
SPEAKER_11Dan and Bring looks in and she starts her wind up. Here's the pitch. Misses outside.
SPEAKER_02Two three balls, one strike. Yeah, good frame job by Emma on the outside corner. Just it was a little bit outside, but great job turning her glove, trying to get that call in the black.
SPEAKER_11Dann bring starts her wind up, and here's the pitch. That's ball four. Runners at first and third. Top of the order. Allstott steps in. She is singled and walked and scored a run.
SPEAKER_02I mean, you and she's another one of their slappers, comes from the left side.
unknownShe's gonna show the buttons.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, switch hitting. Yeah, she's way back in the back of the box. Oh yeah. She's a pitch by Dan and Brain, and there's the left side. And that pitch in there for a strike. Okay, that that's interesting. I love that that strategy. So she came in showing from the left side and and basically did a fake slap so that the girl could steal down to second base, kind of shield the catcher from looking.
SPEAKER_11Now she's back in on the right side, and here's the pitch. Outside. One ball, one strike. Terren Ripentrop would be due up next. And the pitch. That's line the gap out between left and right and center. Allstott reaches on a double. And that's a two RBI double. Meg Marsh and Emerson Lara score. Yeah, great piece of hitting. That makes a score 11-0. Ford Dodge here, and we're in the top of the second inning. That'll bring Terran Ripentrop to the plate.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, great piece of hitting by Allstott inside out, taking that ball in the gap. Cleaning the bases. Now here she's on second base and Crusaders, good timeout for them. Go out there. Gotta calm everybody down, just get out of the inning, start fresh.
SPEAKER_11I'd like to thank the Healing Girls Softball Program for helping sponsor tonight's broadcast. Ripentrop has singled and scored a run and flew out to left field her two times up. Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_02Great throw by Emma down to third base. Allstott takes third on the steal. Yeah, good job by the backing that play up and and uh keeping uh Allstott from scoring there.
SPEAKER_11Five runs in the bottom of the first, six runs in the bottom of the second for four Dodge. They lead this one 11 to nothing. That pitch is bunted to the third baseman. Throw over in time. Run will score. And that brings the score 12 to nothing.
SPEAKER_02Good job fielding that ball by by Ross, throwing it over to first getting her, getting her at first, and and uh Allstott was coming all the way.
unknownRBI for ribbon drop. Second out of the ending of the Dodger.
SPEAKER_11So that'll bring Ellie Doster to the plate. Three run home run and a walk her two times up. She has scored twice.
unknownEllie in this game. Three run home run in the first inning. And walks or something that we don't know to do.
SPEAKER_11Base is clear. Here's the pitch. High for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Two outs here in the bottom of the second. Fort Dodge has pushed seven runs across to take a 12-0 lead.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you gotta keep the ball low on her, keep it on the outside corner. Or jam her, either way. There's a beautiful pitch. Boy. Outside. Two balls, no strikes. Yeah, a little bit, a little bit outside for Doster. I thought it might have caught the corner, but like you said, Mike, we're a little bit right of the plate.
SPEAKER_11There's the pitch by Denvering. That pitch fouled off out of play. Two balls, one strike. Grace Nichols is due up next. And here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_02That pitch way outside. Ball three. Three balls, one strike. Yeah, tried to come with that change up on the outside corner.
SPEAKER_11Look in by Dan and Bring, and here's the pitch. That aligned foul down the first baseline. Brings the count full. Three balls, two strikes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, good pitch on that outside corner. Kept it low. Main her chase it. Trying to keep it out of her out of her wheelhouse of her of her swing. She's she sits way back on the plate and to the outside of the line. So she's way Off the plate. Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_11She lines that out to that's all that's off the fence out in right field. She's running in there for a double.
SPEAKER_02Well, she just got great power, Mike. I mean, she she looked like she just checked swing that thing, and that's off the fence.
SPEAKER_11Grace Nichols will step in. She has singled twice and scored two runs.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, she put that ball in the gap on one of her base hits.
SPEAKER_1112 runs on 11 hits for Ford Dodge. Two Crusader errors. No runs. No hits for the Crusaders through two innings. There's the wind up in the pitch.
SPEAKER_02Outside, ball one. One ball, no strike. Yeah, there's that rise ball in the out outside corner. Nice looking rise ball by Dan and Bring.
SPEAKER_11Here's the look in and the wind up, and here's the pitch. Yeah, a little bit low on inside, Mike. Misses inside. Two balls, no strikes. Macy Wills would be due up next. Here's the pitch by Dana Bring. That's popped up on the infield. Beautiful. There we go. Nice play by Eliana Ross. She makes the catch at third base. We'll keep it here between innings. After two, it is 12 to nothing for Dodge.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we're gonna get some of our sponsors in here, Mike. SPEAKER_11And thank you to the Bishop Healing Girls Softball Program for sponsoring tonight's broadcast. Healan will send Alexandra Dan and Bring, Isabel Laffin, and Brooke Raymer to the plate here in the top of the third.
SPEAKER_02Crusaders trail 12 to nothing. Yeah, we've hit her pretty good. We've hit her solid. Last inning, all three mate, great connection. Just hit it right to him. Here's pitch.
unknownAubrey Allsotten.
SPEAKER_02That pitch low for ball one. One ball, no strikes. I mean, she throws, she's got decent speed, she's got good location. She's not going to overpower you, Mike. You've just got to come up there, you've got to be ready. She's going to give you something to hit. Here's pitch outside. Ball two. Two balls, no strikes. Yeah, good at bat so far by Danabring.
SPEAKER_11Comes in hitting 203. 11 singles and four doubles on the season.
SPEAKER_02Here's the pitch. There we go. That's going to be a good one. She's another one. Jeez.
SPEAKER_11Another hard hit ball that the left fielder runs over and is able to make a catch.
SPEAKER_02She went a long way to get that one, John. Boy, that ball was hitting the gap. I thought that was a for sure double. And she went a long way and caught that thing on the run. Beautiful play. Yep.
SPEAKER_11Healing's hitting the ball hard. They're just can't even say they're hitting it right out. It's just four dodges making some great plays out there again to the ball.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Danabring tagged that ball.
SPEAKER_11Isabel Laffin will step in. Left fielder. Here's the pitch. She squares if she's gonna bunt. That pitch is outside for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Brooke Raymer do up next. Crusaders have not had a runner-reach base tonight.
SPEAKER_02Here's the pitch. Bunts that foul. Good idea by Laughing. I don't mind that. Trying to take that bunt down the first baseline and make them make a play. A little bit of their their out of their playbook. Yep, find a way to get on. Yep. And that's fast pitch softball in a nutshell, folks. Small balls huge, and then try to get runners on base and then clear clear them with some of your big hitters. Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_11That pitch just misses for ball two. Two balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_02I'll agree with that, miss, John. Yeah, that with that one looked like it was right on the corner. But you know what? I mean, like you said, we're up here. We don't know if that was high or low, but here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, nice cut. Fouls that down the third baseline. A good. Again, really good contact. Yeah. Good cut by laughing. Two balls, two strikes. One out here in the top of the third. Crusaders trailed this from 12 to nothing. Here's the pitch. Yep. Got her looking for strike three. Great change up. That's out number two. Second strike out of the game for Allstott, and that will bring Brooke Raymer to the plate.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and that's how you freeze them. She just threw that change up and just froze her.
SPEAKER_11Brooke steps in here looking to get the first Crusader hit of the evening. Here's the pitch. Pitch inside corner for strike one. No balls, one strike. Brooke steps back in, she's ready to go, and here's the pitch. That's changeups for that one floats across for strike two.
SPEAKER_02No balls, two strikes. Yeah, you really got to keep your weight back. She throws that, she's thrown that change up to every batter here, the last three of bats. And here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_11Swing and a miss, strike three, two consecutive strikeouts for Allstott. Crusaders that retired again in order. Three up, three down. We're gonna head to the bottom of the third inning. Crusaders trail this one 12 to nothing. We'll be back in 30 seconds.
SPEAKER_07Missouri Valley Land and Cattle Consultants started up in 1987 by Mike and Virgin. They specialized in buying and selling cattle. You can reach Michael Vachure at 712-251-4232. They're located in Dakota Dune, South Dakota. You're listening to FM 88.1, KFHC, Ponka Sioux City, and KOIA, Storm Lake, Siouxland Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_06And now back to your Crusader Sports on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_11Back here at Fort Dodge, we're headed to the bottom of the third inning. Crusaders trail this from 12 to nothing. Aaron Fitzpatrick is back in the circle for the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I got to give a shout out to uh the Fort Dodge staff that's been great to us. Uh Coach Eldridge, uh the AD out of Fort Dodge, Mr. Yoster, the dad of head coach uh Andy Adams. Thank you so much for the hospitality you've given us. Uh coach, of course, uh Coach Eldridge, uh, the dad of the legendary uh basketball player Ellie Eldridge out of Pocahontas High School. Those of you remember her uh breaking the state record and scoring back in I think 2017. Um and just a wonderful basketball player went on and played at Missouri State. So thank you so much for your hospitality up here.
SPEAKER_11Got Alexander Dannenbring over at first base now. And trying to see who is out in right field. I can't get it. Yeah, I can't get the number. We'll try to get that for you. We want to make sure that if they're in, we want to get them recognized.
SPEAKER_02That sun really, really looks like it's just settling on the right fielder. She's got her sunglasses on, still having trouble seeing out there, Mike. Yeah, I can't see that number, Mike.
SPEAKER_11I'm gonna say it's number 12, Kennedy went, but I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_02I think it is. I think that is the number, but those front numbers kind of they're tough to see.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, you know, they put the big number on the back for old guys like you and I that can't see very well. That big number needs to be on the front as well. Umpire's making sure he gets all the changes passed along to the Fort Dodge coach. Had a great chance to visit with uh Kylie here over the last couple months, and uh just I think she's I think she's gonna take this program to uh heights that it's been a long time since they've they've been there or maybe where they've never been before. She positive attitude, she exudes a lot of energy.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely, she does. And this is, you know, I mean, let's say it for what it is. This is just a great experience for the Crusaders. I know we're down 12-0 and right now in the third inning against a really good Ford Dodge team, but these are the teams you've got to play, these are the teams you got to face and see what the competition is at this level in order for yourself to improve. And you gotta cut and you gotta schedule these teams next year. I mean you've got to come right after them. And she know she now knows just by seeing it tonight, you know what it's gonna take to get to this level.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, that's that's absolutely true. And uh this is this is a good way to measure yourself, and and we're young and and they're learning they've got a little bit of ways to go, but that first pitch grounded out to second baseman, throw over to first for out number one. Yeah, beautiful play by Sophie Lane over to Dan and Bring, and that will bring up Callie Zimmerman plate. She was hit by a pitch and singled and scored a run her two times up tonight. She'll step in from the left side.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, good pitch by Fitzpatrick.
SPEAKER_11Here's the pitch by Aaron fouled off. Fouled back off the catcher's glove, no balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_02You know, and let's say for what it is. I mean, you got nerves, you're dealing with nerves as well, Mike. You're coming into this into a situation. We haven't been here for a while, and just a great opportunity. And and it looks like Fitzpatrick's throwing real well. First two, three pitches coming in, coming back in. She's she's she's dialing in now.
SPEAKER_11That one bounces up there for ball one, one ball, one strike. Again, Crusaders trail 12 to nothing here in the bottom of the third inning. Here's the wind up in the pitch. Beautiful change up. Oh, just missed. Must have been high. That's ball two. Two balls, one strike. Yeah, I like that pitch. Aubrey Allstott would be due up next. Boy, look how far. I mean, she's up as far as you can go.
SPEAKER_02Swinging a miss. Two balls, two strikes. Yeah, to see these left-handed slappers. I mean, the way they utilize the you know the box is just incredible. Way up in the box. Here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_11Just misses outside. Three balls, two strikes. One out here in the bottom of the third inning. Fort Dodge comes into this game with a record of 37 and 4. Looking for a win so they can play at home next week in the state tournament. And that pitch bounces in there for ball four. Zimmerman draws the one-out walk, and that will bring Aubrey Alstott to the plate. She is single twice and scored a run.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Alstott hitting 482. Uh another one. She she goes from the right side, but she's got some power. She's also uh plays small ball. She's one of their combination players that can go either way here. Uh hit for power, but also bunt you know with decent speed to get down to first base.
SPEAKER_11Aubrey steps in, and here's the pitch by Fitzpatrick. Squares to bunt. Outside for ball one, one ball, no strikes. Of course, Crusader baseball team knows what it's like to play a state tournament in your hometown. Sioux City was able to host a state baseball tournament last year for the first time, and hopefully we'll see that back over our way in the next few years. Yeah, great. What a great experience last year in Sioux City. Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. One ball, one strike. Yeah, I learned that week why I like coaching basketball better because it's air conditioned when you're doing that. It was it was a hot week out at Explorers Park, but it was it was a good time. Great having everybody from across the state come to see us. Here's the pitch. She squares the bunt. Bunts at down the first baseline. Unable to field it cleanly.
SPEAKER_02So Allstall reaches. Yeah, great great bunt down the first baseline. Caught Danenbrink. Dannenbrink was actually going back to first base to cover, and that ball laid right down to the first baseline. She had to come up, and she had no shot at her at first.
SPEAKER_11Runners at first and second here in the bottom of the third. One out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, now you got force out, Mike, at uh any base here. Anything on the ground. Go to the short base. Eliana Ross coming up.
SPEAKER_11Here's the pitch by Fitzpatrick. In there for strike one. No balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, beautiful pitch by Fitzpatrick.
SPEAKER_11Marsh has scored a run tonight.
SPEAKER_02Emerson Lara is due up next. He steals. There's a pop-up.
SPEAKER_11Popped up. Emma Moody over to make the play. Makes the catch. Runner from second. Heads to third. Moody in the first baseman.
SPEAKER_02Collided there in foul territory, but Emma was able to make that catch. Yeah, everybody advanced on that. Yeah, that kind of caught Emma a little bit off guard. She kind of lost her balance. Wasn't able to turn and make that throw to third. Emerson Lara steps in. Yeah, I think she when she kind of ran into her, I think she some of her equipment got loose there. Looks like she's readjusting her helmet.
SPEAKER_11Lara steps in. Fitzpatrick starts her windup, and here's the pitch.
SPEAKER_02Come out of this inning clean.
SPEAKER_11Pitch low, ball one, one ball, no strikes. Top of the order, Hope Allstott would be due up next. And here's the pitch. Out gets away from the catcher. Here she's one run will score. That makes the score 13 to nothing for Dodge. Runner at third base with two outs. Two balls, no strikes, the count to Lara. Aaron looks in and starts your wind up. Here's the pitch. Fouled right back. Two balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Fitzpatrick really coming in here dialing in this bottom half of the third inning, Mike.
SPEAKER_11Shout out to Grace Tot back in the studio for keeping things running smoothly. And Ann and Tim, thank you very much for the opportunity to come over and do this game. That pitch high. Three balls, one strike. Lara steps back in. Runner at third base, two outs. One run across here in the inning. That's it right back up. That's hit off Fitzpatrick. Beautiful play. Field by the second second baseman. Great play. Throw in time. So that is a 1-4-3. That's your typical 1-4-3 put out, John.
SPEAKER_02That was a great, you know, you and I talked about fast pitch softball. One thing you can't do is when you field the ball, you can't come up and bring the ball back in, cock and throw. You got to come, it's got to be one motion. And Sophie Lane, great job right there picking that ball up off the ricochet and throwing over to first.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, you definitely don't have time to think. Let's go ahead and take a 30-second break. We'll be back.
SPEAKER_01For years, Prime Bank has been paying you for your everyday banking. And now we've made our UPIC banking account even better. Choose between a UKIC points account and earn points to redeem for merchandise, gift cards, and more. Or a UKIC Act account to pay you for everyday banking. And now at Prime Bank, it's even easier to earn a higher annual percentage deal on larger balances with our UKIC interest account. At Prime Bank, you can earn even more your way.
SPEAKER_06And now back to your Crusaders courts on your Catholic radio station.
SPEAKER_11Welcome back to Fort Dodge. I'm Mike Skaggs, joined by John Tritz. Crusaders back to the top of the order here in the top of the fourth. They'll send Aaron Fitzpatrick, Eliana Ross, and Sophie Lane to the plate.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, this is fun. This is this is fun. I mean, it I this is a good experience, uh, great atmosphere. Just a great crowd out here from Fort Dodge at Harlan Rogers Field. Folks, if you've never seen this facility, just an absolute unbelievable softball softball facility in the state of Iowa.
SPEAKER_11Again, hit hard, but right at her. Oh, jeez.
SPEAKER_02She absolutely roped that ball. That was a reaction catch right there, Mike. Oh my gosh. Smash unassisted back to the pitcher for out number two. You know, and that's why you wear that those pitchers, you see them wearing that face mask, like she does. That ball almost hit her right in the face. Man.
SPEAKER_11I'm sure it's not the first time it's happened, but you bet her life flash before her eyes on that one. First pitch, Sophie Lane, swinging a foul back, strike one, no balls, one strike.
SPEAKER_02Crusaders trying to get a run on to extend this game.
SPEAKER_11Alstott steps back in the circle and starts her wind up. Here's pitch. That is popped up. Third baseman able to make the play. That's out number three, and that will end the game. Crusaders fall to Fort Dodge 13 to nothing here in the substate final. What a great season by the Crusaders, Mike. Great season by the Crusaders and great battle. Absolutely. Finish the season 32-9. I know there's going to be some girls who are disappointed, probably more so the final score than anything else. Like you said, they they hit the ball hard. Sometimes it was right at Ford Dodge. Other times Fort Dodge just made great plays in the outfield to uh to keep the Crusaders hitless and off the base pass.
SPEAKER_02And folks, we're not just saying it about these girls hitting the ball tonight. We we tagged the ball, we hit the ball in the gaps. They just made great plays. Two running catches by the outfielders. That line drive back to the pitcher there. That's as hard a hit as I saw all night. And she just made a reaction catch. But let's say what it is. Ford Dodge, what a great ball club. They do the things, the little things it takes to win championships. They've got a ton of slap hitters and they do it well. And then they they extend things with the power from Doster and a couple of their other players to clear the bases.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, they've they they're a quality team, and like I said, they're number three in the state for a reason. And I'm sure the the pairings for the state tournament will come out here later tonight, and it'll be interesting to see where they're seated. I don't know how the number one and two teams did tonight, but uh great experience coming over here. I enjoyed calling softball, learned a lot from you, John. And uh thanks again for everybody that was that listened tonight. Thanks to everyone who listened during the season. Rob and Roz Cove. I don't know if you're listening, but if you are, thank you for being what is probably our most loyal listeners all season long.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and you'd like to just a few more of our sponsors just to get in. Uh, this is kind of a short game, for inning game. Would like to acknowledge a few more Mill, Shellhammer, and Pitts, Neil Pfeiffer, KO State, KOC insurance agent, Prime Bank, Security National Bank, Sioux City Musketeers, Tim and Lisa Swadin. Thank you for sponsoring Bishop Healin Softball, Bishop Healing Baseball, and Catholic Radio. Mike, it's been a pleasure working with you this year. Congratulations to Coach Kylie Luke. What a great season for the Bishop Healing Crusaders. Something to build on next year. And this is where you want, if you're going to end it, this is where you want to end it. Harlan Rogers Field.
SPEAKER_11Absolutely. And uh enjoyed working with you, John. I've learned a lot, and I know our I know our listeners have. You've you've educated a lot of people. And uh hopefully John and I will be back next year to bring you uh Healing baseball, and uh maybe every once in a while during the non-baseball sports seasons, if they need to fill in, uh if we did an adequate enough job, maybe they'll give us a call. If you don't hear us between now and baseball folks, they must not have thought we were very good. So uh but we enjoyed it again. I appreciate everybody listening, appreciate all the compliments that you guys have given us uh online, uh on Facebook, and in person. We really appreciate it, and we've enjoyed bringing this to you. And we will talk to you again next May. Have a great uh rest of the week and see you soon. Thank you, Mike.
