Scheduled program to bring you this special broadcast of Healing Crusader Sports. Catholic Radio would like to thank all our amazing donors, sponsors, and underwriters that make this broadcast possible. Now it's time for Crusader Athletics right here on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders. And welcome. Hello, everybody. Travis Morgan alongside Bob Guerra here with you on 88.1 Catholic Radio, as it's the Lamars Bulldogs, as they walk into town against your Healing Crusaders, ranked sixth in class three day. Gonna be a great night for football. A little warm, Bob, but all in all, not a lot of breeze out there either. You got the Healing Crusaders looking for that first win of the season after dropping a game last week against SBL, and then you have the boys from the ice cream cap of the world trying to grab a lot of momentum and go 2-0.
SPEAKER_02Well, you know, Travis, first of all, it's great to be back in the friendly confine and air conditioning. Nice and cool space. It was a little bit uh warm last week.
SPEAKER_06But you dropped about 15 pounds last week, and you looked great when the game was over.
SPEAKER_02And uh I I just want to lead off by uh by apologizing. We had some a lot of technical issues toward the end of that game last week and didn't get the post-game. So we're actually uh Travis met with uh John earlier this week and uh got our coach uh Coastal Fleur and he kind of recapped last week. So we're gonna kind of do it a little bit backwards. We're gonna give you a little recap from last week before we kick into our traditional pregame show. But it's always great. And uh Lamar's healing always brings out the best in these two teams. And you hope the hope the old adage that your biggest improvements between game one and game two is in fact the case tonight for the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_06Well, let's let's let's take it to the uh the tape then here. With I did have a chance to talk with head coach John LaFleur about last week's loss a little bit, what they saw, what they liked out of that loss. You can learn a lot from a loss, Bob, and then a little bit about what they got seeing uh what they're gonna see tonight when they take on the Lamar's Bulldogs. It's all right here, and let's throw to the tape right now where I talked with John. Always good to catch up with the healing head coach John LaFleur. We weren't able to do it last time with some technical difficulties at the end of the game. Uh John, let's go back. I know we don't want to go back too bad, but you know, let's let's go back to last week a little bit. Top five showdown, you and Sergeant Bluff, home opener or season opener at on the road against Sergeant Bluff. But you know, this was a game that people are gonna look at the score and go, oh, it was kind of lopsided. It really wasn't though. It was three big plays. Um but between that it was uh a really tight football game, and it just kind of seemed like time was uh sensitive in the second half and just kind of got away with away from you a little bit.
SPEAKER_04Sure, yeah, yeah. First and foremost, uh uh hats off to Sergeant Bluff. They're they're a really really good football team. They're gonna win their share of games. Yeah, they're they're gonna be tough in their class, they've got a really good one coming this week. They got a Lewis Central, but uh Coach Smith does a really nice job down there, always well coached, always pretty well disciplined. You know you're gonna be in a for a dog fight anytime you play them. And uh, you know, I thought our kids competed pretty well. Uh but obviously didn't come up on the right end. Made some I th made some mistakes. Uh credit to Sergeant Bluff, they forced those mistakes. Um, but you know, some missed tackles, a couple of a couple of assignment miscues that uh you know I think we can do better. I think it I think pretty evenly matched teams, obviously, but they made the plays and we didn't, and that's just kind of how the ball goes, you know, how the ball game goes.
SPEAKER_06Having JJ Hope go out like in like the first series of the game probably didn't help you guys. I mean we're not making excuses here, but uh if you're gonna play a team like Sgt. Bluff, you need all the bullets in your gun. And and he's a big bullet.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we'd like to have all our horses in the stable. Yeah, but uh you know it is what it is, and you just go and play. And and I think that's you gotta learn the kid has uh the kids on the team have to learn some resolve and learn how to you know how to deal with adversity. And that adversity struck early. Um they handled it well, we didn't. So, you know, looking back on it, that's on me. I gotta be a better coach. I gotta learn teach those kids how to do a better job to overcome those type of things. Uh, you know, but you know, we get to look forward to playing a really good team this upcoming weekend, and uh, you know, we'll we'll see uh how well we've uh uh coached up our mistakes and how we overcome that adversity.
SPEAKER_06They always say you can learn a lot, almost you can learn more from a loss than you can a win in a situation that did you did you learn a lot with watching the tape?
SPEAKER_04Oh absolutely, absolutely, and hopefully that's translated to the kids as well. You know, uh we we spent a lot of time watching film, trying to correct them, and and uh you know we'll we'll see how well they they are, how coachable they are, I guess. Um because I think we have a pretty good idea of what we did wrong and what we did right. And there was a lot of good things too, you know. And uh, you know, I was some young kids played some ball that hadn't played a lot in the past, and you know, it's uh we're off on the right foot. Obviously, you'd like to get a win, but uh you know, we're gonna move forward, watch that one, and and uh you know, see what happens this week.
SPEAKER_06What did you like out there? I mean, the offensive line seemed like they played well in the at the beginning of the game and and and they protected well and things like that. So I mean there was and you were you you kind of knew that going in the the offensive line, the guys up front were gonna be pretty pretty solid. Uh I think you've kind of got that hit that on the head, if you will.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I think so. You know, offensive line uh did their job. We could be better for certain. Um we need to run the ball better, there's no doubt. Uh I thought we I thought our pass protection was pretty good, actually, on the offensive side. Uh but you know, and and Eli threw the ball, I thought, fairly well. Um we just a lot of communication errors and and we'll clean those up. Uh on the defensive side of the ball, I actually thought we played pretty well defensively outside of uh the biggest plays. You can't give up big plays. You know, you're gonna get beat that way. But I thought we held their rushing attack. It's that rushing attack is as good as anybody's in the state. And to hold them to uh, you know, not a whole heck of a lot for them. Um I think they did I think the kids executed their job there. But once again, you know, you gotta you gotta play a complete game and not just ninety percent of a game. And that other 10% is the one we're really focusing on to make sure we get better.
SPEAKER_06The offense seemed like it we were commenting on during the game, it just seemed like it was taking a lot of there was some miscommunication or taking a lot of time to get the play in or read the play. That's something you you're probably gonna clean up, but can you talk tell us about what maybe was some of those that that issue that was going on there?
SPEAKER_04Well, we yeah, it certainly was, you know, and and I think a lot of it went back to JJ going down. Um because you know, we're we have we think we have some depth, but when literally when one guy goes down, your depth just gets thrown out the window. And and so, you know, we've got a good idea of personnel groupings that we want to go with when we w w but you know, literally then if JJ goes down, then we're like, okay, so we gotta get this kid here, this kid here, he's moving in there, this this place, and this uh and this uh personnel package, and you're like the dominoes things get chaotic in a hurry. Yeah. And so we'll simplify, we need to simplify and and that's that's once again on me as well, not being prepared enough to recognize that if we have something happen like that, that you know, we need to just simplify and make it simple, let the kids go out and play fast and not think. Okay.
SPEAKER_06Well, so we've learned a lesson from week one, and we've moved on now. Uh week two is now upon us, and you got Lamars, and you know, when you think of uh the rivalries that have developed over the years uh, you know, here at Healen, it was always known as uh Healan and East, and that was pretty much the the granddaddy of them all. And then you've thrown in over the past uh decade or two, you develop something with Sergeant Bluff, and you definitely develop something with Lamars. And so you get in the three big ones, your three big rivals bing bang boom, right in a row. You move on to Lamar's, and what do you expect to see from the Bulldogs here this Friday night?
SPEAKER_04Well, you know, a lot of people hate us, evidently. So, that's okay. My grandfather always used to say if if uh people are talking about you, that means you're doing something, you know. So uh uh, you know, Lamar's watched some film on them from what they did uh with Constable SAL last week. Uh pretty impressive. Uh they've there's they're starting a new quarterback. Uh it's uh he's a sophomore, he's pretty shifty, he did some nice things. They're they're pretty darn big up front, particularly on the defensive line. I think they go like 335, 280, and 250. I mean, it's that's some big kids, and they can move a lot of things. There's a number 55, his name escapes me on the defensive line, but that kid is uh he's a player, and and some of these big time colleges around should be looking at him. I think he's 6'5, 280 pounds, and he can he's he's impressive. So uh we'll have our hands full, no doubt. It's gonna be a big test for our offensive line to go up against kids of that size and that stature. And um, you know, and then offensively for them, they uh talked about the quarterback a little bit. I think their running back number 16 is is pretty outstanding, does a really nice job, tough, hard-nosed runner. And then they've got and sorry about not having the names, but I I learned numbers much better than names. That's fine. Number six is uh is really explosive. Uh he gets in there and they want to get him the ball, and and uh you know they're they're gonna do some do some things uh with him when he's in the ball game. And and then when they need the tough yards, uh number 56 is uh their uh big right tackle. Uh and once again, name escapes me, but you he won't he won't escape you when you see him on the field. He's 6'3, 290 and just mauls people. So I don't know where Lamar is. They must have been eating all the ice cream. I was gonna say they have been full feed ice cream all summer. But they have some large kids that that can move and play football really effectively. So uh, you know, we're gonna have our hands full, but uh really relish and welcome the challenge.
SPEAKER_06You think Lamar's is one of those teams that is maybe taking a step uh in the right direction this year and and and be maybe becoming a problem here a little bit more than what they happened in the middle of the year.
SPEAKER_04It certainly looks like and I they uh they obviously have some really big shoes to fill. The the Sitzman kid that was a quarterback last year was really awesome. Yeah, real tough. He was good. He was he really made that thing go, and then the Augustine kid that was their I think their tight end splitting type of guy, really, really good. So, you know, I think their offense is still maybe not completely where it wants to be, but it looks like they certainly have some really really good pieces with that running back and wing back, and I think that young sophomore quarterback's gonna be pretty good. He just needs experience. And uh, you know, they're starting, they only have one I think one full-time starter left or coming back on the on the offensive line. So as those guys play and as they mature and get experience, they're obviously gonna get better. Coach Big Doll usually does a really good job up there. So uh, you know, we don't have a gimme on the schedule, honestly. And and but that's where we want because you know ultimately you wanna you wanna you wanna play the best uh to be the best, and that's where we gotta be. So we're you know, really looking forward to seeing uh how much we can improve over week one and uh fix mistakes and go out and execute.
SPEAKER_06What concerns you the most after watching the tape with Lamar's? What what are the dogs? What uh what about them concerns you the most?
SPEAKER_04Uh we've got to be able to run the ball, and it it looks like they're gonna be tough against it, and we didn't run the ball very well last week. So I'm certain they're probably licking their chops saying, hey, we're gonna shut down this Bonnet Healing rushing attack that we've had for the past few years. And it's gonna challenge our kids to make sure that they understand that that's what they're probably thinking, and we need to be able to go out and run a ball. So, you know, maybe a matter of wills going against each other, and uh we'll see what happens. But uh you know, we we can't be we we just gotta we have to be balanced essentially. We tried, you know, some of the game last week was uh we got uh we got behind a little bit, had to throw the ball more when we wanted to um stay balanced and do the right things, and you know, we'll see what happens. Talk about Milky a little bit.
SPEAKER_06You know, this is his first his uh first really true start. I mean, he started obviously one game last year and and played in some spot duty stuff, but he's got the keys to the bus now this year. Um going into this football game, confidence is that's important for these for quarterbacks, obviously. How do you get him confidence here early?
SPEAKER_04Well, that's a big game for him. You know, uh he's a he's a Lamar's transfer, he was a Lamar's public kid uh for his first year. So yeah. So I think anything it's gonna be to temper his enthusiasm a little bit. Okay. Make him play under, you know, within himself, not not trying to do too much. I was a little concerned with that last week. I thought he did a pretty good job, actually. He didn't he didn't try to make the big play, he just you know took what was there. You know, uh Sergeant Bluffer did some things to take some things away from us. But uh I think he's gonna be really good. The more he plays, the better he's gonna get the opportunities gonna, or the better he's going to get, the more opportunities he's gonna get to the guys on the outside in the perimeter. Um you know, we've got some guys, even with JJ being down. Hopefully, uh we plan to hopefully have him back here this Friday. Um but with him being down, we still have a lot of guys on the that we can get the ball to. A Prince Weigba, Grant Weag, uh Grant Weagba, or excuse me, Grant Grant Wickham. Yeah, yeah, yeah. See, my names, my names are not good here. Uh Dylan Knapp, uh Tommy Carroll. I mean, yeah, uh Siramatumble. You we got a bunch of kids that can catch the ball and do something good things once they get it in their hands. So you know, um we'll uh you know just rely on Eli to just make the easy play. Yeah. Don't try to do too much.
SPEAKER_06You obviously probably didn't experience the Lamar's um rivalry when you were in school because they were they were smaller than you um at the time. But you've you've got a taste of it now, you know, with with with you being the head coach and you being around Sioux City for quite some time. And I you know, I think it kind of started it with with with baseball and basketball and then trickled over into the football side of things, you know, from my my years covering the sports. Um what is that rivalry like uh with Lamars? Can you talk about just what that one means? Because you know, obviously the East rivalry is what everybody talks about, but but when you get kind of the down and dirty of it, you know, there there's a lot of there's a lot of history here, big time history between uh Lamars and Healing.
SPEAKER_04You know, and good rivalries become when there's you know when they're competitive. And and they've you know it's been a very competitive rivalry. We've each of us have had our fair share of wins over the course of the few years. Um you know, uh there was some baseball stuff that I'm not 100% certain how that all went down. Uh I've heard stories, you know, um that would fuel anybody's fire, probably, uh one way or the other. Yes. And I think it's just kind of just smoldered since then, you know. And uh I I don't get into it too much, honestly. You know, each and every team we go out and play is is a rival, so to speak. Outside of East, of course. But um, you know, uh but other than that, you know, hey man, we gotta go out and play. And and that's what we're telling the kids. It doesn't matter, you know, we gotta go execute, do our stuff, and uh and we'll we'll see what happens. But uh you know, the the rivalry is good for fans and and for people to talk about and all the internet and online and TikTok or whatever else they're just kidding about. The bloggers and the TikTokers. There's way more people talking about high school football than I ever imagined, let's put it that way. And uh uh so but you know, hey, uh we'll let all that stuff go on on its own, and we'll go out and try to just play football the way we know how to do it.
SPEAKER_06Coach, good luck tonight, and uh, we look forward to talking to you after the game. All right, I appreciate Travis, as always. Head Coach John the Fleur, we're back with more right after this here on 88.1 Catholic Radio. You're listening to Crusader Football. And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders. Of course, that was the post-game show that we had to pick up on Tuesday that happened on Friday because of some some technical difficulties. We want to thank our premier post-game sponsors, Knights of Columbus Agent Neil Pfeiffer and Tim and Misa Squidin, of course, and in addition to our post-game uh premier postgame sponsors, Tsubody Shop, Culligan, Two Center Sprinkler, Two City Sprinklers, Two City Symphony Orchestra, Queen of Peace, Trinity Heights, New Crib of Inspection, Sunnybrook Dental, and of course Security National Bank Scoreboard always always in the mix as well. Bob, you heard John talk about uh the fact that that offensive line from Lamars only has one starter back on it. They are gonna get to know Mr. Max Asoff in a hurry tonight. Uh they may only have one start now this w this year. They're gonna need all the experience they can get to handle him.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And uh, you know, that but they're also big kids. I mean, they they've got some they've got some outstanding size there, and you know, it's uh it's one of those things where I'm I'm sure there's a lot of focus with John being the line coach to say we run the ball good because our line is good. And last week, obviously the numbers weren't all that great, 76 rushing emerges just isn't up to the standards that we've seen the last few years. And so I would imagine that as John said the focus is gonna be really on getting that, especially in the early downs and putting yourself in situations where Eli can be a little more comfortable with run pass options and not have the the you know second and long, third and long situations.
SPEAKER_06To be fair though, partner, it's not like they were playing the Omaha School for the Deaf last week either. I mean, let's face it, Sergeant Bluff Luton is gonna be one of the best teams in class 4A this year. You saw them last week. Our opinion has not changed on them one bit. They are big, they are fast, they are good, and they are legit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and they're uh the word that came to mind was cohesive. I mean, this this did every element of the game very, very well. And uh it's you know, if you if you've watched Coach Smith for years and years as we have, uh it's not a surprise at all. And you combine that coaching excellence with the talent level they have, it's it's not a surprise they are what they are. Now they get a tough one tonight with Lewis Central. Yep. I mean, that's that is gonna be uh a banger game down there, and I'm I'm really curious to see how that weighs out because Lewis Central figures to be uh a pretty strong team in 4A.
SPEAKER_06But when you play the what you played last week in Sergeant LaFluten, and now you now you come to the maybe Lamar it's gonna get a little easier for you this week. I mean, let's face it, Lamar's is not a Sergeant LaFlutin kind of quality qual quality squad like they have.
SPEAKER_02No, but they're they're very well coached. But they're always great.
SPEAKER_06You know, uh and they have athletes.
SPEAKER_02Coach Vigdal does a great job and and his kids buy into his system. Um, you know, it left an outstanding quarterback, and and we're seeing it to a degree too. It it's it's tough to replace those quarterbacks. I mean, it's you know, a lot of it too comes down to the communication from the sideline to the huddle and the huddle into the other kids, and uh all that kind of matriculates as the season goes on and should get better in theory, but uh you know, they're gonna they're gonna be wound up. I mean, we've got a couple of kids that uh may or may not have been at Lamar's at one point. That could raise the energy level just a smidge in there, but uh, you know, it's you kind of touched upon this. This rivalry goes back a long time in every sport, and uh they're they're gonna come ready to play, and I would expect just a very, very good ballgame.
SPEAKER_06One of my favorite Lamar's healing moments in a rivalry game, and you probably remember this. It was it was when the it was in the it was in the old pit, and uh now of course the name's gonna forget me, but uh the the little little little point guard, super good, uh went to Breyer Cliff. Um lives in Colorado now. Anyway, uh but super good good point guard was fouled hard by Star by by Lamar's this and this was it it was already getting really physical. And Shane. Uh Shane Sh uh Shane um Graves Graves and Shane was absolutely hammered going into the wall. And he got up and he looked right at the guy who fouled him and clapped three times right at him and goes, Alright, we're gonna play like that. And from minimum out, Healan owned him. And it was it it it the rivalry kind of started with all that, and it was it was just really there was a lot of things and baseball and whatever, but at the end of the day, you gotta love a football rivalry because you can hit people. And here's a chance.
SPEAKER_02And I it goes back to like when my son would have been about 2007, 2006, 2007. I mean, they went on the way to the dome.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You know, they knocked us off, knocked up Harlan, and you know, this is this that's a program that's had some success in the past. You know, that's uh a lot of those ages suddenly their kids are coming up, and you know, success kind of breeds success. So I would expect uh a very competitive game tonight. I I'd also expect that we clean things up quite a bit tonight, and uh I think a lot of it's gonna come down to communication and maybe simplifying things a little bit uh tonight to make things run a little bit smoother.
SPEAKER_06Talk about Grant with him a little bit and and his impact last week. We knew how we knew he was a very good football player coming in this year. He was able to make plays even when he wasn't making plays because they had to uh essentially create penalties, uh commit penalties to stop him uh on third and long situations and and even on second and long situations, whatever it was. Uh Grant really made his presence felt last week, uh offensively and defensively, but really offensively, you really saw him uh kind of step to the forefront and they really had to do a lot to contain him.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and uh, you know, not only him, but you know, our entire receiving court. I mean, we were just fingertips away from several really big plays that you would that you would hope as the season goes on that we find a way to complete those. But uh Grant on both sides of the ball does so many good things. And you know, I think tonight a real key for us, I don't know if John touched upon this or not, is I I think getting our linebackers more involved. Right now, our leading tacklers are coming from the secondary level. And we need we need to get those kids more involved. And a lot of that is a lot of that is uh those boys up front occupying the the offensive line of Lamars and letting those linebackers kind of float to the ball and get some tackles there. So I would expect to I would expect to hear the name of our linebacking court a little bit more tonight. Uh once again, you're listening to the Dave Peppern pregame show here, ahead of tonight's ballgame against Lamar's. Our other pregame sponsors along with Dave Peppern include Bob Rose Point After and North Enzime, Heinman Family Dennistry, Cruz Financial Group, Missouri Bennett Landing Cattle, Ruley Family Chiropractic, Stabermeats, Shram Electric, and FM Wealth Management, Mr. Matt Laller. As always, a huge thanks goes out to all these great sponsors who interrupt Healing Athletics and make all this possible for you and I and all our listening audience.
SPEAKER_06Another, I think, right side last week, you look at the maybe the rushing attack wasn't quite up to snuff, but one one guy that really did coat the rock at a pretty good level was Heitree. You know, here's a kid that transferred into Healing, uh, Landon Heitree the Jr. running back, really showed some great patience and a burst. Um, he I think he could have a big night tonight.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I I would agree with that. I I I was very impressed with him when he we saw some good things. And I would expect that you're gonna see uh Riley Lowry kind of have a little bigger night, a little bigger impact. He didn't touch the ball as much as maybe we would have expected, but uh Heitree was certainly a bright spot in that running game last week. And uh I mean I think you can rest pretty assured that uh the focus on the running back was a major theme of this week's practices is and uh I I would expect to see uh that part of our our our our offense get going tonight.
SPEAKER_06And Wegman, I think Wegman needs to get more involved in the web. I think they're gonna try to Get to him a little bit more as well. He was he caught a touchdown the only touchdown last week, but I think it was his only catch. But there's a big talent there in Grant Wig or in Prince Wigba that could really make a difference.
SPEAKER_02Well, I think of Sid Matumbo, too. Get him maybe a little more between the hash marks in the middle of the field. We had him split out a lot last week. It sounds like we're going to run maybe some tighter formations this week. So I'm guessing you're going to see him operate more in the middle of the field.
SPEAKER_06What's the one thing that you looked at last week that concerns you most about tonight, Buffalo?
SPEAKER_02Well, I think it was just I think it may be just at times the communication side and the inability to get things in. And I quite honestly, I was very surprised that our defensive backfield gave up the big plays they did, given the experience we had coming back. But again, a lot of that was JJ Hope being down. So you know that's there's there's always things to clean up. It is very early, and again, it's a very competitive schedule, and good teams like Sergeant Bluff expl exposed things like that, and they certainly did last week.
SPEAKER_06Especially early in week one. Alright, we'll take a quick break. When we come back, we'll have more of the Dave Peppin pre-game show. We'll have our starting lineups, our captains and all that stuff, and tell you who's receiving, who's taking the ball, and all of it. It's all next. It's Lamar's. It's it's the Lamar's Bulldogs, and it's the Elan Crusaders. It's next right here on 88.1 Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_12You're listening to FM 88.1 AFHC, City, and Land Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_06And now back to Crusaders Reports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voices of the Crusaders. We got Tom Betts just to my right on standby in case something happens. And something happens, Tommy B always right here. He goes, maybe you should stand up. I am standing up, Tom. I am standing up and I'm looking you in the eye as you sit. That's that's the way it is.
SPEAKER_02Have food, bets will travel.
SPEAKER_06Have food, bets will travel. Amen. Tell you what, coach, uh, you know, it's just a great night for football. It's a little warm, but it the the the student section got it right with beach night. They're all dressed in in uh in bikini gear and everything else, and and and and they got the the straw hats on and and the the Hawaiian shirts, everything else. It's it feels like a beach night to me.
SPEAKER_02Hey, kudos to the band dressing all black out there. Great job with the national anthem here just a minute ago, and they've got this crowd jacked and ready to go, and uh it should be a fun one. Again, you're listening to the Dave Pep and Real Estate pregame show along with Dave Pep and our other pregame sponsors, Bob Rose Point After and North End Zone, Heidman Family Dennistry, Cruise Financial Group, Missouri Valley Land and Cattle, really family chiropractic, Staber Meat, Shram Electric, and Matt Lowler with FM Wealth Management on your Security National Bank scoreboard. About two minutes and ten seconds to go until we get our uh captains out there for our coin toss. All right. Uh here's your projected offensive starters for tonight. First of all, for the Bulldogs, one and oh. And again, they are coached by Ken Vigdal, a veteran in the coaching world. Uh number four is their quarterback, Jordan Koprood. He's 165 pound sophomore getting his second start. Uh their halfback's a good one. It's number 16, Joaquin Hernandez, 190-pound senior. The other wing back is Christopher Sanchez, another running thread at 165 pounds. He's also a senior. Uh Efren Cabango is a uh 170-pound Z-back. He'll line up all over the place. He's a senior. Noan Graggy is a 190-pound senior, and Colin Murphy is a 205-pound senior. A very experienced uh skill set for Lamars. On the offensive line, it'll be Edel, Susamil, Westhoff, Albrecht, and Cruz. Uh, handling the kicking is Jordan Luna for the Bulldogs. Again, they're 1-0 on the season. For the York Crusaders, tonight's offensive starters look like this. Elijah Milkey will be making his second start. He's a 225-pound senior. He's number five on your schedule. Dylan Knapp will line up as one of the running backs. The other one's Landon Hightree. Uh, your tight ends, Assir Mutumbo, a 235-pound senior. Your White House are a really strong pair, and Grant Wickham, 175 pounds, as well as Prince Wagbah, 175 pounds. Both of them are seniors. And the big group up front includes Max Asoff, Aldo Gonzalez, Max Two, Keaton Schweitzer, and Nolan Mickey. Your kicking deal duties are going to be handled by number 27 Reed Herbolt for the Crusaders as we get to our coin toss at center field here at Memorial Field. And uh boy, it's a nice crowd filtered in on a hot night.
SPEAKER_06It looks like the Sergeant Wff, or the Sergeant Buff pregame show has thrown me all sorts of messed up. All right, so Lamars wins the toss. They'll defer to the second half, which means the Healing Crusaders will receive. They'll go from left to right on your radio dials and dial it in, folks. Time to load up, and let's go get some here. As it's number six, Healing, hosting the Lamar's Bulldogs from the Ice Cream Capital of the World partner.
SPEAKER_02Boy, it should be a good one here. It's great to be back home tonight here at Memorial Field. And uh big crowd on hand tonight, big crowd, uh all the festivities. Uh great job by the band, as we mentioned earlier. Uh, kids are all fired up for three three-day weekend, and uh as we all are.
SPEAKER_06Aren't we all? The uh crusaders tonight dressed in their navy jerseys with the white numbers and the gold pants, and of course, the classic, the iconic gold helmets. The Bulldogs all in white with the black helmets, white jerseys, black numbers and letters, and the white pants as well. As we get ready to kick it off, they'll be kicking away from Hamilton Boulevard from right to left up your radio dial. And it is going to be number 21, Jordan Luna. We'll be doing the kicking honors here for the Bulldogs to get us started tonight here at Memorial Field, 1-0 Lamar's versus 0-1 Healing. It's the rivalry game, it's the part of the three-part series of rivals to start the season for your Healing Crusaders, and we're about ready to go and kick it off.
SPEAKER_02Luna.
SPEAKER_06Kick going to be taken by Knapp at the 15. Pass the 20. 25 cuts up the middle, has some room, and out near the 40-yard line. They bring him down to the 38. So a nice return for Knapp. Good starting field position for the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_02Uh nice touchdown saving tackle there by Drake Peters of Lamar's 150-pound sophomore, and uh Peters doesn't get him. He's to the he's to the shed there. So great return, great starting spot, 38 uh 38-yard line for the Crusaders tonight's first quarter. Is brought to you by our premier sponsors, Mills, Shelmer, Pitts and Associates, as well as Lightforms.
SPEAKER_06Even breaks the huddle. They're gonna go single bet single back set out of the shotgun with Milky. And then to his left will be Dylan Knapp. Two wide receivers to his right, two to his left on first and ten. First play of the football game here. Handoff up the middle to Knapp. Breaks a tackle, can't quite squeeze away from the second guy, though, as it was Ben Regan uh Reganitter who stopped him for a gain of just about a yard and a half. We'll give him two, and it'll be second and eight.
SPEAKER_02Um, John, Coach LaFleur couldn't say enough about those defensive pet those defensive tackles for Lamar's. There are a couple of big kids there, and you're gonna probably hear their names a lot. Uh Paul Dietloff, as well as uh a really good one in Chase Hammond's at 285 pounds.
SPEAKER_06285 pounds a big boy.
SPEAKER_02He doesn't look like 285 either. He carries it well.
SPEAKER_06He's lean 285. Trips wide receivers to the right, shotgun formation for the Crusaders. Milkey back to pass on second down, looking over the to the left, and he's just a little bit wide. He was looking for Prince Prince Wegba. It falls incomplete, and now brings up that interesting third and eight situation. This is where you don't want to be.
SPEAKER_02Right, and the real positive there was the time he had to throw the ball. I mean, he had a nice pocket set up for him and just was a little off, uh little off kilder with that. Nice defensive back. Now they uh they'll play as many as five defensive backs back there. They like they like it a little dime package back there. So the passing game, uh especially the short passing game, probably is not gonna be as initially open as maybe we saw last week.
SPEAKER_06Third and eight. We'll see what the Crusaders have drawn up here on this opening drive. 11-11 to go here. No score. Third and eight from their own 40. He's got three wide receivers to his right, and one wide receiver to his left. And there's gonna be some laundry on the field, and we're probably gonna have an illegal procedure problem. Delay of game. And this is the issue we had last week as well, partner, was the this the long time it takes to get in and out of the huddle and what's going on. And I think there was some confusion. It looked like Matumbo hadn't had an issue of what side he was going to line up on by the time he got over there. Uh some valuable seconds strained off that clock.
SPEAKER_02Gives us a chance to thank once again our first quarter sponsors, our signature sponsors, our Mills Shammer, Pittson Associates, as well as Lightforms. In addition to them, it's Wall of Fame, Graphics Inc., Tri-State Dental Care, Sneaky's Chicken, People's Bank, North Risk Partners, McKintock Insurance, Christy Smith, Funeral Homes, and Drilling Morningside Pharmacy, with the 1111 on your scoreboard, on your security national bank scoreboard, is all knotted up at 0-0 as the Crusaders face a third and eight from their own 40.
SPEAKER_06And the good news was John LaFleur's Johnny on the spot there and called timeout before they throw the flag. So they'll take the timeout instead of the penalty. So the bring up third and eight, so a chance still a chance to get it here. Three wide receivers to the wide side, which is the left side of the field. And now Milky redirecting his running back to his left. He's got Matumbo as the lone wide receiver to his right. One-on-one coverage, looking left though, going up top. Wants it all, has a man wide open on the field, and he can't get him. Wakeball was running all by himself with a 20, and Milky just overthrew him. Oh, if he could have that one back, partner, he'd do it in a heartbeat.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely. And uh, you know, that's one of those passes that Eli's got to learn to maybe put a little more air on it. Yeah, he boy throws a beautiful ball, but it tends to be very line drive oriented. And you know, let's sew it up there and let Prince run under that. But uh good stop for Lamars on their first defensive possession, three and out for the Crusaders as going back to punt for the Crusaders is Reed Herbold, the 155-pound sophomore.
SPEAKER_06It'll be Cabango and Peters back deep to return it here. High punt right down the middle of the field, and they'll fair catch it at the 30. So a nice putting nice job of punting there by uh Herbold as he booms one right down the middle of the field. Good coverage on the cup on the play there, two partner. They got down there and had him cut had him surrounded right away.
SPEAKER_02You know, he'll take that 30 to 35 yard punt with no return all the time in high school ball. I mean, and uh really nice high arching punt there by Herbold. He's a nice kicker for the Crusaders. So here's Lamars to get the first look at it. Uh again, their quarterback is a sophomore making his second start here.
SPEAKER_06So uh some big wide receivers, though. Some very tall wide receivers out there for him. Two wide receivers to his right, one to his left out of the shotgun. Then a handoff up the middle to his go-to guy, and that's Joaquin Hernandez. And Hernandez finds it tough sledding as the the guys in blue swarm him for a gain of about a half yard. Lucky to just get back to the line of scrimmage there, as they'll give him about, like I said, half a yard will bring up second and a long nine.
SPEAKER_02And uh Hernandez toted the rock a lot last week. Yeah, he's definitely their go-to back, so it's good to see him stop there on first down. No gain, second down and ten for the Lamar's Bulldogs out of the shotgun set again, two wide receivers to the wide side left.
SPEAKER_06Handoff again to Hernandez, and Hernandez finds a little more room this time as he weaves his way forward for a pickup of five. We have him six, and I'll bring up third and four. So a nice job there of Hernandez of finding the room. It was very patient run there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, a nice little inside trap there coming from the right side to the left. Uh ball spotted directly in the middle of the field, third down and five for the Bulldogs here. We're just under 10 minutes to go on your security bank scoreboard. No score as of yet here in week two of Iowa High School football.
SPEAKER_06From their own for 35. Snap back, handoff Hernandez again, right side, looking at the first down, and I think he's just right at the sticks, and they're gonna give it to him. It was a second effort falling forward by Hernandez to get the extra half yard he needed, and they're gonna give it for him, and he's got a first down, and that means he uh a fresh set of four here for the dogs.
SPEAKER_02A really nice cutback there at the at the initial line of attack. There, it looked like the Crusaders had him bottled in there, but uh he cut back against the grain, got the necessary five, and gets the first first down of the game at the Crusade, or excuse me, at the Lamar's 40-yard line.
SPEAKER_06923 to go here, first quarter. No score. Opening drive for the Bulldogs from their own 40. First and 10. They're gonna go under center this time for the first time. Handoff, Hernandez right side, and they grab him and bring him forward. Somebody got his face basket appeared, and everybody missed it somehow. It's gonna be a pick up of three, though. And I'll bring up second and seven. I it seemed like he got his head jerked around there. Maybe it wasn't.
SPEAKER_02High tree and Baker were in on the tackle there. That will call to gain a three for uh Sanchez. Hard-earned three on that. Uh four rushes already for Mr. Sanchez, Joaquin Sanchez uh or Hernandez, excuse me, were uh 13 yards.
SPEAKER_06So this time they go shotgun formation. Two to the right, one to the left. Two running backs with him on the left. They're gonna throw for the first time. Has a man near the first down sticks, and he's gonna give it to him. A quick slander to Colin Murphy goes for about seven, and it's gonna be first down dogs as they enter Healing territory at the 49. A quick hitter to the right, to the left side goes for a nice pickup.
SPEAKER_02Give him uh 11 yards on that reception. Nice throw there by the sophomore quarterback. Once again, first down yardage for Lamar's. They got a nice little drive going. It started at their own 30-yard line. They now cross midfield into Crusader territory at the Crusader 49.
SPEAKER_06Breaks the huddle again here. Once again, Copperude, the quarterback, the sophomore, motions man from left to right, fakes the handoff, breaks a tackle in the backfield, looking for the corner, and he's absolutely gobbled up. And guess who? Grant Whitcomb closed the door in a flash. Came up, made the play on the quarterback, I mean, designed quarterback keeper, and they just found out Grant Whitcomb's probably not the one, the guy, not the side you want to run to there.
SPEAKER_02No, he looted one uh one defender in the defensive backfield, but uh Grant just said nope, my friend, this is going down. Second down and 11 for Lamar.
SPEAKER_06Great play by Whitcomb. And Lamars breaks the huddle now back on their side of the 50, just inside of it. Sophomore quarterback Jordan Caparoon out of the shotgun formation. Sends a man in motion from left to right, back to pass, looking, has single coverage on the left sideline, going at Whitcomb and jumps up and bobbled the ball. Now Whitcomb came down with it out of bounds, but they said he was out of bounds. That was one heck of a battle between wide receiver and defensive back.
SPEAKER_02In a lot of respects. First of all, a great back shoulder throw by the quarterback. Uh Whitcomb was there step for step, and I think probably got the interception there, but both the players landed out of bounds. So exciting play goes for not third down and 11.
SPEAKER_06Colin Murphy, the wide receiver there, and him going right at it. That was a great battle the whole way down the sideline. They were jostling for it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it would have been interesting to see how they called that. Yes, sir. I think it was kind of a mutual catch there. Probably should have gone the way of Lamar's, but uh great defense for there by Grant.
SPEAKER_06So that'll bring up third and eleven now from the 50. 7-13 to go. First quarter, no score here. Shotgun formation, fake the handoff. Now they're rolling. Here comes the pressure. Can they get there? No, he throws behind the wide receiver, and that'll bring up fourth down, but now we got a late flag coming, and it's gonna probably be a roughing the passer. They they got a little bit extra there on Jordan Copper after he threw the football, and they did it right in front of the referee partner.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you just can't uh make those little mistakes like that. Uh you you're getting them off the field, and now you give them another first down. That's gonna march into Crusader territory, and it's gonna be spotted right at the 35-yard line.
SPEAKER_11Massive penalty.
SPEAKER_02Nice drive continues here for the Bulldogs. 7-0 six to go here, quarter number one, no score yet on your Security National Bank scoreboard. Again, our premier first quarter sponsors are Mills, Shellhammer, Pitts and Associates, as well as Lightforms. New life for Lamar's as they get a fresh set of downs here, first and ten from the Crusader 35.
SPEAKER_06Copperude out of the shot, gun two wide receivers to the strong side, right. Two running backs to back there with him. He won shows blitz. They're coming, they're bringing everybody. I think John LaFleur blitzed on that play, and it's a big loss of five. Max Asoff back there, and there was a whole host of guys. I think Lamars was completely caught off guard by that blitz.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Bodie Schram as well, along with Max Asoff there. A big loss of four four yards here on that run. As so far, Copperot hasn't had a lot of success in the running side of things. No, sir. As uh where they're gonna face a second down now and 14 ball spotted at the Crusader 39. A real time-consuming drive here. Already we're nearing 10 plays on this drive for the Bulldogs.
SPEAKER_06Boy, Finnegan Peck, and everybody they just peered, peeled their ears back and just came. So here we are, under center this time is gonna be Copperot with a single setback right behind it. Man in motion from left to right, one wide receiver each way, and the hard count. Hard count gets Matumbo to jump off sides, and that's gonna give him five back. So the sack goes for not as they get it right back on the uh on the encroachment penalty.
SPEAKER_02Well, this this uh drive has had the blessing of 20 yards of penalty time already for the uh Bulldogs. So again, that's one of those areas you want to you want to improve on in game two.
SPEAKER_06A great moment there by Coach LeFleur and Matumbo. He just just looked at Matumbo and just keeps doing the waves to him off the sideline over here. Over here, come here, come here. And he puts his hand on his shoulder, and you see him go, why would you do that? Okay, have a seat, sit down for a second, let's go back to it. And John walks away, never yelled. That's just it was some tough love for the young guy.
SPEAKER_02Well, he almost jumped again.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he did. Second and eight, handoff to Hernandez up the middle, follows that big offensive line, but the Healing defenders stop it before it gets too much momentum, but still a pickup of about four, and that's gonna bring up a manageable third and a long five. So from their own 25-yard line, excuse me, 30, 32 yard, 31 yard line. I've changed that seven times, 31-yard line. Healing the Crusaders need to step up here on third down and see if they can get a stop.
SPEAKER_02You might think you might expect this to be four-down territory here. Yeah. This drive continues to roll 525. They've chewed up a lot of the first quarter here. The Crusaders with a quick three and out to start the game, and it's all been it's been all Lamar's since.
SPEAKER_06This drive had ended, but then a roughing the passer penalty kept it alive here just a few minutes ago. And now the flag's not gonna fly because Coach wants to take a timeout. Lamar's wants a timeout, we'll take one with him. When we come back, it's a big third and five here on the opening drive for Lamar's. We'll have it when we turn right here on 88.1 Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_06And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders. Short 14 on though. Not shocked here if they keep it on the ground because of the four down territory. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02No, I'd I would fully expect that uh you'll probably see uh Hernandez with a carry there. Or two. Perhaps. They've had a little they've had some some luck with the little misdirection stuff. Uh you know, the ball sitting just right of center here. Wouldn't be surprised if they see that little inside trap coming to the wide side of the field here. Big uh big down for the Crusaders. They've, as you said earlier, they had a chance to get off the field earlier, and uh personal foul penalty kept the drive alive. And let's see what Lamaris has in store here. Third down and six for the Bulldogs.
SPEAKER_06And something's going on over there on the sideline because the they have a wide receiver that's getting taped up or something with his elbow, but now he's ready to go. Extended that timeout about 15 or 20 seconds longer than it had to be, and that was Colin Murphy. Who's gonna be set aside one on one coverage over here against Whitcomb under center, man in motion from right to left this time. They're gonna handle it on the jet sweep, picks. Up his feet a little bit, falls forward, and Healing stops him short of the first down, but that's going to bring up fourth and a yard, and you guarantee that the dog's going to go for it here. He kind of needed to keep him back there a little bit of a ways to make that fourth down play a little tougher. It's not going to be very tough for fourth and one part.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Cabongo with a little wing back reverse there. Really tough running. I mean, he got uh two of those four yards really on his own efforts, and this brings up a big fourth and one. Let's see if the Crusaders can stand up and push him back here.
SPEAKER_06Watch for the hard count now, too. He's had some success here with that hard count and drawing guys off. We'll see if they go back to it and then run the play. So here he is, sophomore quarterback Jordan Copperood, 165 pounder, under center this time. And hard count, and he got his own guy to move this time. This time, Kabongo is the one that jumped. He's so good he got his own guy to do it.
SPEAKER_02Well, I'll tell you what, uh, along with Mill Shelmer, Pitts and Associates, and Lightforms, our other first quarter sponsors, as they are throughout the course of the year, will be Wall of Fame Graphics Inc., Tri-State, Dental Care, Sneaky's Chicken, People's Bank, North Risk Partners of Clintock Insurance. It's Christy Smith, Funeral Homes, and Drilling, Morningside Pharmacy. Again, your Security National Bank scoreboard. It's all deadlocked at zero with 418 to go here. And uh the Bulldogs now facing a fourth and uh we'll call it a long six from the Crusader 31-yard line.
SPEAKER_06Much, much, much more interesting situation now, partner, because fourth and six is definitely not fourth and a la and a half a yard. So we'll see what Lamaris has drawn up here on fourth and six to keep this opening drive alive tonight for them in this contest between the Bulldogs and the Crusaders. Cop Root under center. Play action pass now looking, has time rolling, has a man at the 25. 20 has the first down inside the 15. A big play on the play action pass, and that is gonna bring them right into the red zone, partner.
SPEAKER_0218 yards on that completion to Hernandez out of the backfield. Uh really nice little pitch and catch there.
SPEAKER_06Got a crusader down.
SPEAKER_02The ball's gonna be spotted near the 13-yard line. Again, a nice, nice throw by Koprood there. 18 yards on that completion. He's now two completions for 29 yards, and again uh Hernandez out of the backfield gets that catch.
SPEAKER_06It appears that the tie tree, I believe, is down on the sideline who was in on the tackle. And that's one of their top running backs, obviously, for Heal. So hopefully he's okay. We'll take a quick break. We come back, we'll have the rest of the drive right here on 88.1 Catholic Radio. You're listening to Crusader Football.

If you want quality workmanship, dependable schedules, and a commitment to your success, you can call RJ Tide Construction. RJ Tide is a proud sponsor of Healing Athletics and Siouxland Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_06And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders. But here we go. First and 10 now for Lamar's handoff, and Hernandez chugs his way forward. And partner, he is a tough boy to bring down. He just keeps his feet going. A lot of that Roger Craig in him, if you understand what I'm saying, we're just he constantly keeps his feet moving forward and he's hard to just actually get to the turf.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it looks like it's going to go for not, though. There's going to be a holding call on that. That's a big call against Lamar's here on this drive because he got uh got eight yards on that carry and set him up very nicely inside the 10-yard line. But the ball's gonna be spotted now back at the uh 23-yard line for the uh Bulldogs are gonna face a first down 20 now with 318 to go.
SPEAKER_06This has been an unbelievably long drive for Lamar's. Not quite as long as the Sioux Center drive where they took the entire quarter last year, first quarter. But here's one that they've chewed up a lot of clock, and it's only first down.
SPEAKER_02Well, on a hot day, hot night, too. That's your defense is out there for a lot of plays. Well well over ten plays already on this drive.
SPEAKER_06Copper hands off up the middle, not going anywhere. Fumble on the football, fumble on the play. He then says they got it. Lamar says they got it. It's the classic tale of two teams saying no. And Hewan says they've got it. They're they're chuckling and they do uh give it away. He won't fell on the pig.
SPEAKER_02I think Nolan Mickey might have got in there and uh disrupted that. Uh great job, Nolan, and uh that stops a very promising drive here that extended well over uh 10 minutes, and the Crusaders are gonna get their second possession of the game as they're gonna take over at the 21-yard line.
SPEAKER_06Although Gonzalez is also in that mix, so the big defensive front strips the ball and Healen dodges a bullet. Now the offense takes the field here. We'll see if they can score in their second possession. They didn't get a first down on their first possession. Now they're looking for something here. Three wide receivers to the left, two to the right for Mickey. Out of the shotgun formation. Four-three defense here for the dogs. Fake the handoff. Mickey up the middle, puts his head down and falls forward after a pickup of seven. So a nice run there by Mickey, and we've seen that from him in the past, and I think tonight we might be able to see that a little bit more.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and you want those positive yards on first down because that brings your whole arsenal into play. And by the way, that last Lamar's drive was 13 plays and resulted in no points. So uh a little bend but not break for the Crusader defense as we're gonna get uh second down now and call it a uh long four for their long three, excuse me, for the Crusaders ball spotted at the uh at their own 27-yard line.
SPEAKER_06216 to go here, first quarter, no score here, as it's an eye formation set this time. Mickey under center, handoff, right side, they gobble him up right away. Oh my goodness, big number 58, and that is Ben Regan Reganiter, the the 200-pound linebacker was not fooled at all. He came through and just got him, and he was also helped there by Chase Hammonds, and that defensive front is making it hard, tough sledding here early for the running backs to get going from Helan.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no gain there. Uh early on, the just nine yards of total offense for the Crusaders in uh, I believe that's five plays now. So need to get something going here. Third down, and uh, we'll call it five. Look for uh old number one here. Yeah, look for Milky to try and find one of those quick receivers and get a little pass and catch here.
SPEAKER_06He's got Prince and Whitcomb out and another wide receiver out to the left. And now the flags fly again. And was that delay again?
SPEAKER_02Yes, it was.
SPEAKER_06And that offense continues to struggle at the line of scrimmage. So third and five, or third and six, turns into fourth and eleven.
SPEAKER_02Well, they've replayed the down, replay that's gonna be third and eleven.
SPEAKER_06Excuse me, I'm sorry. Replay the down. So here you are. Trips wide receivers left, one to the right. It's Prince Wegbuddh, the single set to the right, and of course, it's Milky out of the gun. Linebacker shows blitz here for Lamars. Now he backs off, now he comes. It's picked up, rolling to his left, tucks it, Milky spins around, still on his feet somehow at the 25, down to the 30. He's close to a first down, and he might be about a half yard short. He is really close to it.
SPEAKER_02You know, I think you show confidence to your team and hammer this out here. You do it? 45 seconds to go there. He's about third and a football. Should be fourth and an inch.
SPEAKER_06And it was, yeah. No, no, now it's fourth.
SPEAKER_02They're gonna give him the first. We got all kinds of things.
SPEAKER_06They got three, they got three, they got a four, they got a one now.
SPEAKER_02Is it a first down? It's like a looks like a math quiz. I'm failed. Well, now there's gonna be the first conference. One more shout out to our first quarter sponsors tonight. They are Mills Shelmer, Pitts and Associates, as well as Light Forums, along with them, is Wall of Fame Graphics Inc., Tri-State Dental Care, Sneaky's Chicken, People's Bank, LeClintock Insurance, and North Star Partners, Christy Smith Funeral Homes, and Drilling Morningside Pharmacy. First and ten for the Crusaders. Uh they'll give him ten on that.
SPEAKER_06How about that run? That'll work.
SPEAKER_02Man, that was a very elusive run. Well done.
SPEAKER_06It looked like he was trapped, nowhere to go, and all of a sudden he pulled the Houdini and he was out of there. Pretty impressive.
SPEAKER_08First, first operator.
SPEAKER_02First, first down of the night for the uh Crusaders.
SPEAKER_06Comes with 28 seconds to go in the first quarter. So clearly, Lamar's is game, my friends. Eye formation for the Crusaders. Milky under center. Whitcomb the Lone to his right, pitches it right, has some room. Five and dropped down immediately there as Murphy came up and stopped the ball carrier. It was Jevan Javon Bergen who had a clear path, but boy, it was a great tackle in the open field by Murphy.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you lose that one tackle there. Uh great job by Grant Wickham with downfield blocking there. I think uh Javon might have taken it to the house there. Really, the Little Mars Bulldogs rallied pretty good on that run. That looked pretty wide open. Just a little sweep to the uh short side of the field there, get some six, and uh it looks like it's gonna be the last play of the quarter. So, but as always, a big thanks to all of our great sponsors for this quarter action. Uh, as we tick down in the Security National Bank scoreboard and head off to our some of our ads from back back at the studio. It is zero to zero here. We'll be right back.

SPEAKER_06And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders. Welcome back to Memorial Field. Travis Morgan and Bob Geary here with you. As the Healing Crusaders with their second drive of the football game, but it doesn't come till late in the first quarter. And a big run by Milky to produce a first down on a third and long. Kept the drive alive, and now they're at second and six. Second and four, it looks like, actually.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we've uh we've yet to see Milky complete a pass here. Uh total offense for the Crusaders in that first quarter was 13 yards all. By way of the ground game. So uh again, uh let's focus on getting a little more here. First down drive, our first down carry there uh by Javon Bergen resolved in a seven-yard gain, so that's an encouraging sign.
SPEAKER_06And Bergen's got a lot of run here early tonight for the sophomore. He's showed up and they're giving him a shot to run the football. We'll see what they got cooked up here. Second and four now. 12 minutes on the clock as we start the second quarter. And of course, High Tree, the tailback, down with an injury here early, and they're gonna run quarterback keeper on the right left-hand side, and he's swallowed up in a dangerous play there. Is this boy his knee and his leg kind of got caught behind him, and luckily it was able to pull out of it. But it's a small pickup. Bring up third and now short for the Crusaders. But positive yards, always a good thing, partner.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely. So uh, you know you're ahead of the you're ahead of the game, ahead of the sticks here when he got a third down and short. Ball's gonna be spotted at the 39-yard line. Again, the Crusaders going right to left on your radio dial here. Ball spotted on the left hash mark. Let's see what uh the coaching staff draws up for the Crusaders here as they break huddle with 12 seconds to go on the play clock.
SPEAKER_06They had a mass exodus in there, in and out. Pretty much the entire team came in and came out. Now they're down to four in the play clock. Got to hurry up. Handoff up the middle. It goes, and I think he's got the first down. Yes, he does. That was a nice job of running the football by Dylan Knapp as a second effort got him the first, and that's just what he needed. And could the drive is alive.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely. And the more success you have with those, the more the more the play action comes into play down the road here. Again, your second quarter tonight is brought to you by Keller Williams real estate agent Tammy Bertrand, as well as Liberty National Bank. They are your second quarter premier sponsors.
SPEAKER_06Eye formation set this time. One wide receiver each way. Milkey under center turns, fakes the handoff, looking, going deep, gets absolutely blasted, has Whitcomb all alone, and he overthrew him. He had to get rid of it right away, though, because the pressure was coming, and Nolan Grage was breathing right down Milky's neck, and he took a shot right when he threw it.
SPEAKER_02That's your that's your play action set there. Nicely defended there by the Bulldogs. Once again, we're just a fingertip away from a long touchdown completion there. Wickham was alone. As Wickham was flying free in the backfield, second down and ten now for the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_06So so many times so far this year, and that and that that ball though, you you you wanted some more air. That was the one. That was the one. He put a lot of air under that one, and just too much. And I think it was before he was forced to absolutely just kind of throw it up because the pressure was there and it was coming.
SPEAKER_02Boy, Eli's got a strong arm. Yes, he has to be. He got hit when he threw it. He had white shirts clawed all over him on that. Uh second down and ten.
SPEAKER_06Out of the gun here again. One wide receiver each way. He's got a single setback to his left. Milky barking out the call here on second and ten. Quarterback draw up the middle, and he's wrapped up right at the line of scrimmage, nowhere to go. As that was Christopher Sanchez, the senior wide receiver DBE, come up and made the play. And he read it the whole way, nothing doing third and ten. So third and long here again. We'll see if they want to use his legs or go to Wickham.
SPEAKER_02I kind of like the setup of that play. It's just uh a great defensive play there by an outstanding defensive back in uh Christopher Sanchez, who's had a lot of tackles on the season. In fact, he's one of their leading tacklers on the year. And he's the smallest guy in the football field.
SPEAKER_06He is by far the smallest. I bet he's 5'8, maybe. And he's out there making plays. All right, they break the huddle. Three wide receivers to the wide side right, one wide receiver to the left. Milky out of the gun on third and ten. From their own 42. Milky rolling, buying time. Now he stops and gets absolutely popped. And down he goes with a big loss of about 10. And that's one of those we saw it last week as well, where he you thought he could get a escape out of it, and there's no escape in that one. And it's a big loss, and that's bring up fourth and 20. Bay will punt the ball away from their own 34.
SPEAKER_02Well, I think in a lot of ways that was a coverage sack because there was just nobody to throw to. Initially had really good time to throw the ball throw the ball, just couldn't find anybody open, uh, ended up swallowing the ball and taking an eight-yard loss. So, once again, to punt for the Crusaders is their outstanding punter, Reed Herbolt.
SPEAKER_06Sanchez back as is Cabango. Ball takes a bounce, the 35. Now inside the 30, and that's with the down it at the 30-yard line. It's down by Javon Bergen. So no blood yet so far here with 9-01 to go here in the second quarter. As the dogs and the Crusaders are scoreless, and both have put together decent drives. Nothing to show for.
SPEAKER_02Once again, here uh second quarter is brought to you by Keller Williams Real Estate Agent Tammy Bertran and Liberty National Bank, along with Myra Faber's State Farm Agency, Lawler Fixtures, the Bargain Center, Service Master of Siouxland, Roscobe, and Heidman Law Firm, Soho Kitchen and Bar, R.A. Scott, and Tim and Deb Timmins. Again, they are the grandparents of Noel and Mickey. Thanks to those uh outstanding sponsors for underwriting uh our quarter tonight. Here come the Bulldogs.
SPEAKER_06Copperot out of a gun, fakes the handoff, keeps it right side, looking for some room, comes up, and he's absolutely blasted by Prince Wegba. Prince Wegba had that thing red, partner, and he came up and said hello.
SPEAKER_02Kabango uh has been met rather viciously all night there. He loses two, but uh there's a holding call on it, so they're gonna march it back ten and put the uh Bulldogs behind the sticks here. It's gonna repeat the first down, but it's gonna be first and twenty from uh near the 20-yard line. 8.55 to go here in quarter number two on your security national bank scoreboard. Uh still no score. Really not a lot of offense.
SPEAKER_06And uh it's kind of been a sleeper so far, folks. Not gonna lie to you. It's been hard to hard to call so far, not a lot going. But whether they get 10 or 50, it doesn't matter for us. We call it the same way every time, baby. So here they are breaking the huddle. Copperot out of the gun again. Single setback right behind him with two wide receivers to his left, one to his right, gonna hand off running back left side. It's looking. He's got the corner, but here comes Prince Wegba, who jumps up and goes for a ride on the back of Joaquin Hernandez. But Prince Wegba just kind of jumped on his shoulders, and then Hernandez just kind of kept on going.
SPEAKER_02Really a pretty nice job by Hernandez to keep those feet. Keep that motor going there, and we're gonna give him three yards. Uh, seven carries, 21 yards for Mr. Hernandez thus far in the ballgame. He has been uh by by a long measure their uh main cog in their running game tonight as they now face a second down and 17 from their own 22-yard line.
SPEAKER_06And the dogs need to hurry here. Under 10 seconds to go here on the play clock, down to six, down to five. They're gonna have to hurry up under the they're gonna get under center here. They just get it off. Handoff Hernandez, right side, and he's met right away. They tried to hurry up to the line of scrimmage, they had to. Nothing doing, though, and as Finn Peck was the first one there, and Finney got in and just broke it up immediately.
SPEAKER_02Really nicely done by Finn there.
SPEAKER_06That'll bring up third and sixteen. So the Crusaders doing their job here defensively on this drive as Lamar's hasn't had much of any success here on this round.
SPEAKER_02No, they've they've kept it pretty conservative. Uh by a long measure, uh, they control the play clock tonight. We're about halfway through quarter number two. And uh time of possession. The majority of snaps have certainly been in the favor of the Bulldogs. But as of yet, no score here on your Security National Bank scoreboard. Third and 15.
SPEAKER_06Copper out of the gun. Sends his running back to the motion to his right, and they're gonna take a timeout. We'll take a quick one with them, a 30-second timeout. When we come back, it's third and sixteen. We'll see what happens when we return right here on 88.1 Catholic Radio. You're listening to Crusader Football.

SPEAKER_06And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders. And welcome back to Memorial Field. Travis Morgan and Bob Gary here with you right here on 88.1. Third down and 15 now is what's facing the dogs. No score, 652 to go in the second quarter. And I wonder what they're gonna have dialed in here on third long.
SPEAKER_02Well, it's gonna be interesting to see if the if the Crusaders don't bring a little heat from that linebacking core. They've had some success with the blitzes early on. And again, when you have a defensive backfield as experienced as the Crusaders, you can do some of that things, and don't be surprised if they don't bring the bring the kitchen here.
SPEAKER_06And if you're also the coach on the other side of the field, you're not too excited about throwing the football on a down where you know they're throwing the football when you have the defensive backfield of Healen sitting there with Whitcomb. Uh, you want her to go if you say, throw the left side of the field, boy. Don't go throw wherever one is, throw the opposite way. So here we go. Under center is Lamar's on third and fifteen. Turn, hand to Hernandez left side. Not a lot there, and they kept it very Conservative here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, very conservative.
SPEAKER_06Very conservative. And Healan stops him. And that was big number 55 for Healan. Nolan Mickey was right in the mix of it. 240 pounds of mean. And they're going to force the Lamar's Bullogs to bring their punter in and punt it away.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so give an assist to Aaron Lis on that one. Yep. And now we see the first look at uh the punter for the uh when again that's uh Joaquin Hernandez gonna handle the punting chores.
SPEAKER_06That's everything. Ball is away, end over end backspin kind of punt, fair catch called for at the 40 by Wegba, and that's where Healing will start. So not a lot of action here in the first quarter and a half, partner, as both offenses kind of sputtering here so far, and maybe that just good defense.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think it is a combination of good defense, and uh there's been some untimely penalties for both uh they've kind of stuffed both teams on some of their drives they've had. Uh, you know, I think at halftime that's gonna be a major of uh major point of contention is let's clean things up and and get things going. But uh boy again, we're just missing some of those big plays. It's open. You know, one of them's gonna pop for us here pretty soon. So let's hope this is the drive. 6'10 to go here, quarter number two on your security bank scoreboard at 0-0 now back to Travis and the call.
SPEAKER_06Milky out of the gun, has three wide receivers to his left of the song side of the field, one to the right. That's Wegba to the short side. Back to pass. Milky steps up in the pocket, avoids the pressure, looking over the middle, has a man. It's Whitcomb at the 25, 20, down to the 15. It's a great pitching catch. And the Healing Crusaders are in the red zone for the first time tonight with 6-0-2 to go here in the second quarter.
SPEAKER_02Boy, that was a really nicely delivered ball. Uh, Whitcomb with the 43-yard catch. And that is the first completion of the night for Mr. Milkey, and it was a beautiful one that puts the ball inside the red zone at the uh bulldogged 15-yard line. Now let's stuff this thing in with 556 to go here in quarter number two. That was a bullet, coach. That was an absolute nicely thrown ball. You know, and that's where that line drive arm really comes into play. I mean, it was it was very much a seam pass down the middle and uh nicely delivered and uh equally well caught by Wickham.
SPEAKER_06They're gonna go out of the sh out of the I formation set now. Pitch it left. The big sophomore. And that's Bergen, who pounds his way forward, not much there. That I formation set worked a ton last year, Bob. It's just that that was kind of their bread and butter. This year they've tried to go to it, minimal success, but you know, you think you still got to stick to it and keep everybody honest.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, once again, Sanchez on the tackle there, along with uh uh Reganator for the uh Lamar's Bulldogs and uh holding Bergen to just a two-yard gain on that. Uh again, one of those uh plays that look fairly promising coming off the pitch, but uh good closing by the Lamar's Bulldogs. Second and eight now inside the 15-yard line of the Bulldogs.
SPEAKER_06Eye formation Knapp dotting the eye. They're gonna pitch it to him this time, looking for the right side, looking for the corner, and they're gonna run him down, and he gets the corner though, and gets it able to turn it up a little bit and gets a pickup of three. A nice piece of running by Knapp as they had him hemmed in and he was able to put his foot in the ground right at the last second, go forward and head north and get something.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely. Brings up a third down. What you kind of like with this, Travis, is the ball's gonna be spotted on the right hash mark. So the white side of the field's the left side, which you have a left-handed quarterback. Uh don't be surprised if you don't see uh see uh Mr. Milky roll out to his left and try and find one of those outstanding receivers streaking down the middle of the field.
SPEAKER_06He's got two wide receivers to his right, one to his left is Whitcomb. Whitcomb's got a lot of space to work one-on-one coverage-wise on the left-hand side of the field. Milke out of the gun. They're gonna bring a man in motion from right to left and false start on the offense, and they had exactly what they wanted there. Because they had Whitcomb in one-on-one coverage, and the cornerback was playing so far off of him.
SPEAKER_02And again, uh, you know, we touched upon this earlier. There's untimely penalties have really uh really have really limited some of these drives for both these teams this far. So it's gonna be now a third down and the 11. Ball's gonna be spotted back at the 16-yard line. Remember, we had a first and ten from the 15, and now we're facing third and the 11.
SPEAKER_06Here we go, Milky out of the gun, three wide receivers to the strong side this time, two to the right. Empty backfield for Milky out of the gun on third and eleven, back to pass, has time over the middle, finds his man inside the five, down just near the three. A great piece of pitching catch there again, as Milky with a quick hitter finds his man, Jesse Moss for the first down. Big pickup there, partner. First and goal, Crusaders.
SPEAKER_02Just enough to get that uh Jesse Moss with a nice catch there, 11 yards on that completion, and better yet, a big first down for the Crusaders now as uh Mr. Milkey passes the half-century mark through the air. Three completions for 54 yards and a first and goal from the five for the Crusaders. 323 to go here in the quarter.
SPEAKER_06And good news, Landon Heitree checks into the ballgame for the first time since being banged out, banged up here on his left knee. We'll see if there's any ill effects or if he's good to go right now. On first and goal, handoff Heitree up the middle, looking for his first touchdown, and he falls forward just short. He's tripped up at the last second. And that was Ben Reaganter who came in and shoestringed him right as he was hitting the jets to go in.
SPEAKER_02Boy, three yards on that. That looked like it might go to go pay dirt. Second and second and two now. Boy, this is where you like a big quarterback. I would not be at all opposed to taking him right up the middle.
SPEAKER_06Second and goal from the two. Empty backfield set. Milky out of the gun. They're gonna call a timeout. They didn't like what they saw. We'll take it with them. A quick 30-second timeout. We come back, we'll see if Healing can draw first blood. It's no score here in the second quarter. You're listening to 88.1 Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_13Hi, this is real estate agent Hammy Bertrand with Keller Williams servicing all of your residential and commercial real estate needs in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota. My husband Rick and I proudly support Hillan Catholic Radio and our Bishop Healing High School Athletics. Mary Queen of Victory, pray for us.
SPEAKER_06And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders. 233 to go here, second quarter, no score. He won looking to take the lead right now and get it done on second and goal. And you like quarterback, you like quarterback keeper a lot.
SPEAKER_02I like keeping it simple here. Take that big six foot three-inch uh quarterback and run him right in the middle behind this big line.
SPEAKER_06Alright, here you go. It's gonna be Milky under center. You got High Tree, the lone setback behind him. Man in motion from right to left is Whitcomb. Hand off High Tree up the middle. He's gobbled up and thrown straight down for a loss. Maybe a gain of maybe back to the line of scrimmage. He's gonna get back to the line of scrimmage. That's gonna bring up third and goal from the two. So Hightree, no luck on those two, those two runs. And now you got third and goal from the two with 227 to go.
SPEAKER_02You know that last time they put uh they put Milky uh underneath center there for the snap. I just didn't see him in the shotgun here and get a little momentum up and take this thing right up the middle. But uh he's gonna go under center.
SPEAKER_06What you want and what happens is two totally different things. That's why I'm here and they're there. Milky under center. High tree, the lone setback. Fake the handoff, gonna roll left, has a man wide open in the end zone. Touchdown, Healing. Or that play. Jesse Moss was wide open. They sold out for the run to stop High Tree again. And this time, Moss was boy, he was there, was not somebody within 10 yards of him.
SPEAKER_02Very well executed there.
SPEAKER_06Great play fake by Milky, who sold it brilliantly, rolled them out to his left, and once he looked up, boy, Moss was standing all alone in the corner of the end zone by himself. And that is the first point of the football game in 6-0 healing.
SPEAKER_02Let's add that extra point here. On to do the kicking is Mr. Herbal to try and add uh add an extra point to that touchdown. Again, that touchdown half point 2-10 to go here in quarter number two. Crusaders up 6-0 on your security bank scoreboard. Snap good.
SPEAKER_067-0 kick good. And Herbal makes it a 7-0 football game, and the Halen Crusaders are on the board first with 2-10 to go in the football game. It's 7-0 Halen. Nice little drive by the Crusaders as they picked up a big third down conversion there at midfield. And that was the difference. On third and 11, they got a big conversion with Milky going to Whitcomb, and from there, they were able to convert some nice plays, get it inside the red zone, and of course the one to Moss to even get the first down was also massive.
SPEAKER_02Say that fast, Milky DeMoss.
SPEAKER_06Milky DeMoss in a hurry.
SPEAKER_02Really, really nice executed play on third down and goal from uh just inside the three-yard line. Really nice completion there. Crusaders go up 7-0. Reminder uh Crusaders are back on the air next week as we make the short trip across town to take on the East High Black Raiders in uh one of the uh one of the top rivalries across the state. Uh again, uh East High team is very loaded and uh very well respected in the big class. Uh that'll be next week from uh from Morningside as the uh Crusaders will travel over to take on East High. Again, pregame coverage uh will be at 6 30 next week, and uh tip our uh kickoff will be at 7 o'clock as the Crusaders take on East High next week.
SPEAKER_06So Alan grabs the lead, 7-0 here with 2-10. I uh if you told me that we'd have seven points with 2-10 to go, I'd have told you you're a crazy man. That'd be the only the only point scored so far. Uh I didn't see that coming. Defenses have played well tonight.
SPEAKER_02Yes, they have. But again, uh it's been at times uh the mistakes that have that have really shut down as much as the the defense, but uh big big possession there by the Crusaders. Nice kick by Herbert.
SPEAKER_06Herb with a boot taken at the one-yard line, brought out to the 20-25. Lookout 30, 35-40, and he's pushed out of bounds at the 46-yard line. A great return out there by Grant Jane uh Jayas. And Herbull and Wegbaugh, Herb, the kicker made the play to stop the touchdown because he had broke through. And he was off to the races. They're gonna knock him out of the 50.
SPEAKER_02That's a pretty generous mark.
SPEAKER_06That is a very generous mark.
SPEAKER_02Wow, okay. I had to kind of laugh. Reed 221.
SPEAKER_06Whatever it takes.
SPEAKER_02Reed didn't look too anxious to make that tackle.
SPEAKER_06No, he didn't want to make that tackle. That's right. Out of the gun. Back to pass, throws left, has a man in the flat. He's overthrew him. He was looking in the direction of Sanchez, but they were not able to connect. That'll bring up second and ten. I mean, they they knocked him out of like the 40, 46, 47, and they gave him three just for the effort, evidently. So, right at the 50 is where the dogs start this drive now on second and ten. With 155 to go.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
unknownSecond down and 10 for the bar.
SPEAKER_02Big thanks to Myra Favor, State Farm Agency, Lawler Fixer, the Bargain Center, Service Master of Sioux Land, Roz Cobe, and Hydman Law Firm, Soho Kitchen and Bar, Rari Scott, and Tim and Deb Timmins. They join Tammy Burtrand and Liberty Bank as your sponsors for second quarter.
SPEAKER_06Handoff up the middle with nothing there. The defense swarms him. Big number 73, Max Asoff, making his presence felt as he swarms the ball carrier there. No gain, third and ten. And that that heven defense is starting to get better as the game has gone on.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, ASOF and Mickey are kind of starting to uh flex their muscles in the interior part of the line. And uh again, a passing situation here. Looks like Lamar's is not in a big rush to get this playoff near midfield here. I was kind of surprised. Uh don't uh be surprised if the Crusaders don't send a send a few bodies here on a passing situation, third and ten.
SPEAKER_06We'll look forward here as Asoff and Mickey gonna pin their ears back and come. And the ball is loose, and healens on it. The exchange was not good. There's all kinds of confusion out there, and Johnny on the spot.
SPEAKER_02Big number 73.
SPEAKER_06Amen. Big number 73, Max Asoff grabs himself some pig, and now the Healing Crusaders are in business at the Lamar's 48. Huge turnover for Lamar's. Wow. Costly. So now you got a chance if you're Healing with a minute eight to really get some get something going here and going with some massive momentum.
SPEAKER_02Well, you get the feeling in a game like this, a two-score lead is a pretty big lead. It really is. It's let's see what the Crusaders have in mind. Of course, with the arm that uh Milky has, uh everything comes into play here.
SPEAKER_06So here you go. Milkey out of the gun. Three wide receiver, two wide receivers to each side. Gonna fake the handoff, play action, throw left, has a man at the 40. Great block by Wegba to less him to turn him loose inside the 30. How about the block by by Prince Wegba there, partner, to set Moss free for about another extra 10.
SPEAKER_02Great downfield blocking. We noticed that earlier. That gain goes from the uh 48-yard line down to the 28. So we'll give him 20. And uh Mr. Moss has suddenly become the favorite target. Yes, sir. Of Mr. Milky.
SPEAKER_06And healing going hurry up, no huddle offense here. Three wide receivers to the right, one to the left. Milky under the gun. First and ten from the 28, 53 seconds to go, second quarter. Fake the handoff. No, they're gonna give it to him, and he's wrapped up and dropped immediately. That was Chase Hammond's, and that was nothing. And Healin has to take a timeout because of it. We'll take one with him. When we come back, it's the rest of the fourth quarter, 44 seconds to go. Can Healan take a two-score lead into halftime? We'll find out when we come back, right here on 88.1 Catholic Radio. You're listening to Crusader Football.
SPEAKER_10Heyman Family Dentistry produces great smiles that win every time. And our clinic is here to help. Josh is a proud graduate and supporter of Bishop Healing, and Dr. Heyman and his team offer everything from cleanings and fillings to crowns and implants, all at their convenient morningside location. Trust Heinem Family Dentistry for care that keeps your smile in the game. Go Crusaders! Hyman Family Dentistry is a proud supporter of Zoo land Catholic Radio and Bishop Healan Athletics.
SPEAKER_06And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders. It's second and 12, 46 ticks to go here. Second quarter. Healing moving the football, and we'll see if they can capitalize off that Lamar's turnover. Right now off the uh the fumble by Lamars. Milky out of the gun. Three wide receivers to the right. Back to pass. Looking, has time. Now he's gonna roll. Gonna keep looking. Gonna keep looking. Buying more time. Throwing just short and meh. Has Whitcomb out there at the 10? No, it wasn't Whitcomb. Who was that? That was uh that was Knapp. And he had him at with the defensive back, came right in the last second and did a great job defensively of getting his paw in there and ripping it out.
SPEAKER_02Really, really a nice uh close on the for the Damar uh for the uh Lamar's defender there to knock that away from Knapp. Well I kind of would like to see Milky keep it there. He had a lot open territory ahead of him. Yeah, and they're probably looking at needing to get uh maybe another seven or eight yards to come in field goal range here with 37 seconds left here in your second quarter. Again, the Crusaders up 7-0 on your security bank scoreboard.
SPEAKER_06Healing with no timeouts left here as well on third and twelve. Back to pass. Milky looking, pressure coming, throwing it up in the corner of the end zone is too far. And he paid the price as Milky got absolutely decked back there when he let it go. It's fourth and twelve. And hey, you know, I remember the old Roger Janssen trick here. You throw one up and maybe you get a flag, maybe you don't, but you take a shot and see what happens.
SPEAKER_02You know, right now they'd be looking at a 47-yard field goal. I think they're gonna probably go for it here on fourth down, try and get a first down, clock the ball, and then get your kicker in. Yep. Now again, uh Milky with a with a really nice pack of receivers here. They just got to make sure they get first down yardage here on fourth and eleven.
SPEAKER_06So here you go, Milky out of the gun, two wide receivers each way. He's got nap back there as a single setback with him. Man in motion from left to right is Moss. Back to pass, looking right. Here comes the pressure. He avoids it, steps up, still has time, cuts it back across the field, and he's decked. Decked by Nolan Grage, and he never saw Grage coming, and Grage just leveled him. So it's a turnover on downs for the Crusaders, and Lamar's Bulldogs defense holds, and they dodge the bullet, and they dodge that whole uh the very costly turnover turns into no harm, no foul.
SPEAKER_02And uh Lamar's is gonna take over 24 seconds to go again at halftime. Uh we've got uh special guests up here in the booth as Mr. Tim Swede, the executive director of Catholic Radio, is gonna talk to uh Bishop Heal and President John Flannery.
SPEAKER_06Our old our old buddy Timmy. Timmy Sweetie. Shotgun formation, handoff. Hernandez up the middle, picking his way forward, has a first down, dragging defenders out near the 50. Oh, that was number 16. Yeah, Hernandez did a great job of keeping the feet turning, and he is a just a hard, hard running back to bring down. First down, they're in absolutely zero hurry, but now Lamaris takes the timeout.
SPEAKER_0211 carries for 35 yards for Mr. Hernandez. Again, our second quarter, and a big thanks to these and all our great sponsors, our Tammy Burtrand with Keller Williams Real Estate as well as Liberty National Bank. Myra favors State Farm Agency, Lawler Fixtures, the Bargain Center, Service Master of Siouxland, Roscoe, and Heineman Law Firm, Soho Kitchen and Bar, R. E. Scott, and Tim and Deb Timmins again on your Security Bank scoreboard. It is the Crusader 7. Lamar's nothing. 16 seconds to go here in your first half. Lamar's with a first and ten from their own 46-yard line.
SPEAKER_06So if you're Lamar's, are you taking a shot right here? I mean, you're calling timeout, so obviously you're doing something. You know, you're not wasting it.
SPEAKER_02As you said, you know, maybe maybe you'll get a downfield penalty or something here. Uh I think you'll see the Crusaders probably be in kind of a pre-vent defense with that defense with that back five and uh try and keep everything in front of them here. Really hard fought first half. I mean physical. Yeah, it's it's been physical, and uh really the the the two defensive defenses have set the tone. Uh neither team's really been able to get any uh consistent attack on the offensive side of things.
SPEAKER_06So we'll see if Lamar's decides to put the ball in the air here and get something close. They're under center right now. Sophomore quarterback Jordan Copper. Under center, one wide receiver each way. Single setback is Hernandez behind him. Healing trying to force the issue. Here comes the blitz. They're gonna throw it. Single coverage deep. Look out because Wickham's got the ball and he can return it. He's at the 20, 25, lookout, got a block. 25 out to the 30. Now look out. Here you go. 35, 40, and there's a flag flies down as I think they're gonna get something over. Obviously, it's something there's a flag, but well, it's gonna be a horse colour.
SPEAKER_02Is it gonna be a horse colour or a face mask? It's gonna be interesting to see if we get one untimed down here with uh zero seconds left here on your scoreboard, I believe. The Crusaders will probably get an untimed down.
SPEAKER_06Wickham, they're gonna need Whitcomb's all worn out, though. He's on the sideline with a knee down asking for some water, and he's he's dead tired after that return.
SPEAKER_08During the return, personal found, illegal blind side block, return team, the penalty of deep fine.
SPEAKER_06Illegal blind side back on the return team, which means the half is officially over. And that's where it ends. We go to halftime 7-0 Crusaders over the dogs. Our halftime show is straight away, as soon as we come back with these words from our sponsors, you'll listen to Crusader Football right here on 881 Catholic Radio, the voice of the Crusaders.

SPEAKER_06And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_10And we are here at halftime of a game that I think will be a very good game. The last few minutes of the first half became very competitive. It was very back and forth until that point. As with the start of every school year, the most important thing that we have is a conversation with John Flannery, president of the system. John, thank you for joining us this evening.
SPEAKER_09Hey, what a great night, Tim. Thanks for the invitation, and it's so awesome to look out and see all these crusaders here tonight.
SPEAKER_10It is. We have a very exciting time for Bishop Healing right now. Obviously, enrollment is way up. Laurie Dorian and I talked about it this summer. You've had a great increase. Where did we end up? Where do we see we're going to end up as far as total students?
SPEAKER_09I'm not quite ready to make that announcement, but it's it's going to be pushing a hundred uh system-wide that we're going to be up this year. So it's really amazing and exciting. Um the one unfortunate thing I want to make sure that I mentioned too that's part of our enrollment growth, and that's the the closing of St. Mike's South Sioux in uh in South Sioux, Nebraska, and how Father Nick Meyer and uh Laura Crow down there, how gracious they were during this transition. And we've just picked up a lot of St. Mike's South Sioux kids who want a Catholic education, and and that's been to our advantage, but certainly not something we were hoping for. But uh what a great opportunity for us to grow and to continue to provide uh mission-driven education here in Sioux Lynn.
SPEAKER_10Well, obviously, the state of Iowa's helped with the ESAs. That is a huge program that we hope will continue for a long time, and that's made Catholic education very affordable for a lot of people, which is very important.
SPEAKER_09School choice has been tremendous in Iowa, and uh truthfully it's we've had school choice in Iowa. Um there are lots of families that don't send their kids to their local public schools. They put them on a bus and they send them 20 minutes away or 30 minutes away, or if you have the means, you pack up and you move your kids from in town to the edge of town, and Sioux City's seen that too, without going into detail. But we've had school choice through open enrollment in Iowa really for decades. Right. And just the last three and a half years we've managed to include, you know, the non-public schools and in particular Catholic schools and Bishop Heelan. And so it has been tremendous. I continue to be grateful to the governor and the legislature uh and several of our local representatives for supporting school choice and how amazing it's been for our families, really, and the difference it makes to a single mom with two kids who's working two jobs and what opportunities it's provided for her to send her kids to a Catholic school. So with growth come challenges.
SPEAKER_10Yes. You and I have talked about that there is some conversation on underway related to some potential construction. Speak to that, if you would, please.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, um, everybody who's in our database should be getting a mailing here in the next uh ten days or so. We are in the process of a feasibility study. That feasibility study is being run by Steyer Group, which is a Catholic fundraising group out of Omaha, Nebraska. They'll be on site doing some work uh and helping us gather information from alums and parents and grandparents and donors and and and people in the parishes and anybody who's really supported Bishop Healing over the last several decades. And so that feasibility study will determine what we can do, what we want to do. We are looking at some improvements at Memorial Field, some of them that are necessary from a liability standpoint, some things that are kind of at the end of their shelf life that we need to replace, right, but also some other things here at Memorial Field that are not liability driven, that are just things that we feel like will take us to the next level. And then also as part of that feasibility study, we're looking at an addition to the high school and what that would mean to our growth that we're experiencing, and also maybe some of the things that were under underbuilt in the first uh pride campaign, so to speak, as Catholic school was looking, and they were saying, Oh, we're not gonna maybe be as big as we'd like to be in 20 years, but now with school choice, we are gonna be bigger and we are gonna have more opportunity to serve more students and serve more families. And so there'll be two pieces to that feasibility study. Again, one would be some memorial field enhancement improvements and and adjustments, um, and then number two would be West Wing addition to the high school that will provide some more classroom spaces, new media center, some resource room, possibly an auxiliary gymnasium and some other things that'll be a part of that.
SPEAKER_10So this is all very exciting. But I I want to encourage the listeners out there, if you have opinions, fill out the survey. Make sure that you tell people what your thoughts are so that all the input can be evaluated as these decisions are made.
SPEAKER_09Absolutely. And the survey will go out and it'll be a paper survey, but it's also a QR code. The QR code will get posted to our social media pages and to our website and that kind of thing as well. So absolutely, Tim, to your point, whether you're excited about any of this prospect or whether you think we don't need any of this is somewhat irrelevant. We want your we want your opinion uh as to what you think Bishop Healing Catholic Schools needs to do next. We you know, and and so we we are looking for that input and we will put all that together and determine where we head from here.
SPEAKER_10This has been an exciting game. It's an exciting start to the school year. John, thank you so much for joining us today.
SPEAKER_09Tim, we are Bishop Healing is so grateful for our partnership with Catholic Radio 88.1 KFHC. We love it, and we look forward to continuing to do great things and continuing to live our mission. That's harder and harder in a secular world, and so uh if we can keep our eyes on on uh why we're here and uh the the teachings of Jesus, uh we will win every day, so regardless of what happens.
SPEAKER_10Fantastic thought, and I can't emphasize enough how important the partnership is to the station. Grace and Jack, I'm gonna send it back to you, and then we will send it back to the game for statistics. Thank you so much for being with us this evening.

SPEAKER_06And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders. And welcome back to Halftime here at Memorial Field. Travis Morgan and Bob Geary with you. 7-0, the Healing Crusaders are in an absolute knockdown, drag out, heavyweight fight where they're just throwing bombs and nothing's really landing Bob Geary, but it's going to be a it's a hot night, and you can tell that these two teams are just here to slug this thing out. And there's not a lot of big plays. It's just they're going to line up and go.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's it's uh it's a pretty vanilla first quarter, uh, our first half. Uh Lamar's with uh 29 yards rushing, 29 yards through the air, 58 total yards on 21 plays. Uh for the Crusaders, uh 30 yards on the ground, 77 through the air on 24 plays for 107 yards. So uh combined uh roughly 160 yards of total offense in this game, and uh both teams have kind of been saddled with some untimely penalties. Uh a lot of things to discuss in the old locker rooms, uh, but uh you know part of the credit needs to go to the defenses. They they've really bottled up the things that each team wants to do, and now it's a matter of making those proverbial adjustments here at halftime.
SPEAKER_06And John said that look, the the thing that concerns him the most is them stopping the them stopping the run, and that's what he's talking about. Lamar's doing that to Healen because they could stop it so well last week. They have the defensive front to stop the run. Uh and so far they've shown that they really can bottle the healing the Healing offense up. It's gonna have to I I I really feel that if Healan's gonna pull away or really kind of take advantage of it and score some points, they're gonna have to do it through the air.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I I would agree. And you know, there's again uh just some missed opportunities with the deep throws for the Crusaders where they've had a chance to maybe uh stretch the field and put some put put some more points on the on the uh on the scoreboard. But uh, you know, again, uh some good defensive plays by both the secondaries have kept this thing pretty tight at 7-0. Again, you're listening to the Sioux City Musketeers halftime show here on 88.1 FM KFHC KOI Catholic Radio, where the Crusaders again lead the uh Lamars Bulldogs 7-0 along with the Sioux City Musketeers. Our other halftime sponsors include Bush Dry Cleaners, Dr. Ryan Mises, CNOS, Jimmy Johns, Vance Thompson Vision, the professionals, LLC, J and J Coins and Collectibles, we must do a best hardware in South Sioux City and Sioux City and St. Augustine Indian Mission again on Security Bank scoreboard, 7-0 Crusaders. And uh while we're talking about our halftime sponsor, the Sioux City Musketeers, they got a little action going tonight.
SPEAKER_06Little action going tonight. I just I just texted to see what the score was. They're at the IBP I Center, and I gotta tell you, Pop when I left the IBP I Center, it was absolutely packed tonight. There for a preseason game, I can't remember the last time that we've had a crowd like that for a preseason game. The parking lot was massive, it was full, the stands were full, it was loud. Uh the announced starting lapse and everything that it was it was popping, and uh I think a lot of people are starting to get really excited about hockey around this town, and and it's gonna be it's it's here now, and it's gonna be here uh it full time on the 26th uh September.
SPEAKER_02Well, perhaps with a heat index of near 100. Being inside on the ice doesn't hurt the cost. You just need to run that hockey season during the summer.
SPEAKER_06I tell you what, man, I I'm gonna I'm gonna throw that the league this year. I'm like, hey, let's let's let's go from July. Let's start at July, shall we?
SPEAKER_02No, it should be an exciting one. Uh always great to to see the see the what the young men for the Musketeers do. And uh as always, we encourage you to get out and watch them any chance you get. Again, uh big thanks once again to our sponsors here at Halftime, the Musketeers, as well as the Bush Dry Cleaners, Ryan Meese of CNOS, Jimmy Johns, Vance Thompson Vision, Jane J. Coins of Collectibles, we almost do a best hardware of South Sioux City and Sioux City and St. Augustine Indian Mission. A big thanks as always to uh for the good work that Tim Swedeen and all the great people back at the studio do uh tonight. Uh we've got Ann and and Jack on you know pushing the buttons back there, and it's it's uh the people behind the scenes what makes this click, and uh we're so fortunate to have them and have the fine support of both Bishop Heal and Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_06We're gonna take a quick break. When we come back, we'll uh run down some things before we get the action started for the second half of play. But a quick two-minute timeout here. When we come back, we'll have the second half of football for you as we get ready to tee this thing up. It's gonna be a great second half. Healing looking for the first win of the year. Lamar's looking to go to two and oh. It's all right here when we come back, right here on 88.1 Catholic Radio. Oh, wait, go ahead. 88.1 Catholic Radio. You're listening to Crusader Football.
unknownWell, I know it's more.

Monday, September 28th, from 6.30 to 8 p.m. at Modern Day Parish.
SPEAKER_06And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders. And welcome back to Memorial Field. Travis Morgan, Bob Gary here with you on 88.1 Catholic Radio. You know, a 7-0 game and not a lot to not a lot of big plays or anything like that, Bob, to talk about. This is just kind of a punch-counter punch kind of thing. But you mentioned it earlier when Healing's going on a drive. You get up by two scores now if you're Healing. That's kind of that's a lot of scores here in a game like this where there's not a lot of points being scored.
SPEAKER_02No, it's uh you know, it's just just the feel you get out there. I think if you can get into double digits, it's right, you've got a pretty good chance to win this ballgame. And uh, you know, it's it's always interesting when they come out at halftime when when it's been uh kind of a point counterpoint, no with nobody getting any energy going on offense, what they do differently to to get that energy going. And you know, I I still think uh the best way for the Crusaders to move the balls through the air. You know, and while those running backs evolve, uh you know, you just got so many weapons there. I I'd like to see a little more emphasis maybe on the f on the shorter passes, get to get the ball in the hands of the guys like Prince Winkba and and uh Wickham Wickham and uh Javon Bergen outside uh you know outside the hash marks and let them roll with it.
SPEAKER_06And it seems like we have we have missed big plays, but the short ones that the last two weeks that we've completed have worked pretty darn well. And uh maybe quit hitting trying to hit the home run and just just pick them apart a little bit. Yeah, that's that might be a great philosophy. Now, defensively, are you changing much at all here if you're either team? I mean, you're just kind of lining up and going at them.
SPEAKER_02No, I think you know, on you know, the big emphasis on first down, take away, you know, hold those first down gains to one, two, three yards instead of six or seven, and uh really force Lamar's to throw the ball, because I think that then that go plays into our strength with our defensive backfield. But uh, you know, I thought we made some great adjustments the second quarter. That that first quarter, you know, it was a nine-minute drive for Lamar's. It didn't result in points, but ate up a lot of clock. But uh the second quarter really the Crusader defense came to play.
SPEAKER_06Now, you are a hundred and sixty-five-pound sophomore playing quarterback at the varsity level. You you gotta be good, you got and you and you better be pretty tough. I gotta tell you, John was pretty complimentary of Jordan Copperude when he was talking about him in the pregame show. And here we've we've seen tonight why. He's a this sophomore can play a little bit, boy. He he's just gonna get better as he goes. By the time he's a senior, he's gonna be a thorn in our side partner.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I I would agree with you there. He's you know, and and handling uh uh rivalry like this in a crowd like this, he's done a great job. And uh I've been you know, I've been pleased pleased with Milky too. I mean, we've just missed missed connections on a few long plays, but he's he's made some things happen when things have broken down, and uh, you know, I think both these quarterbacks will probably have a pretty strong second half.
SPEAKER_06Is this a kind of game though where you see the guys of Mickey and ASOF on that defensive front starting to take over as the game goes on because of because it's so hot and it it just it's just becoming an absolute war in the trenches? Those two guys are just they're so good. As the game kind of wears on, they get better.
SPEAKER_02I thought they we saw a touch of that in the second quarter. You start calling those names a little bit more. Yeah. Uh it's but it is a warm day, and uh, you know, these kids are going at it hard and a lot of plays, um, and just not a lot of yards, but we'll see what the Crusaders have in store here. Looks like uh Lamar's they uh won the toss and deferred, so they're gonna get the ball to start the half here. They're gonna go on left to right on your radio dial. This is our third quarter tonight in our second half kickoffs brought to you by Folk Brothers and Prime Bank, along with Catholic Charity, Simon Communications, Barclay Asphalt, Modern Day Parish, Friends, Plumbing and Heating, and Gretken Family ICare under Security National Bank scoreboard at half. It's 7-0 as we get ready to roll here in quarter number three.
SPEAKER_06You know, partner, I was wondering why in the world I was able to see the numbers and the and the things out there so darn well at this point. And my good friend Tommy Betts goes, Traff, it's the lights. Brand new lights this year here at Memorial Field. Nothing but the finest for us here at Healing. They don't come cheap. They don't come cheap. They don't, my friend.
SPEAKER_07That's just shiny $500.
SPEAKER_06That's about a half million dollars shining down the field, baby.
SPEAKER_02We'd also like to add a new sponsor to us, Russ and Tina Bertrand and RJ Tide Company. Welcome aboard, and it's great to have you as one of our great underwriters here at Catholic Radio. For sure.
SPEAKER_06All right, so here you go. Right to left, 7-0, even to start the third quarter. It's gonna be Herbal to kick it away from the 40. Approaches, swings delayed, high kick, end over end, taken at the 15, pass the 20, pressure comes, breaks a tackle, breaks another tackle, still keep going, and gets his way out past the 35. Flags fly near the 30, and I'm gonna guess they're gonna get a holding penalty.
SPEAKER_02That's typically what you see in that situation. Flag lays near the 30-yard line, and let's take him back a little dead here. Very rarely is it on the kicking team. I've been rocking the back. I've been impressed with uh Lamar's return game, though. They've they've been on the edge of breaking him several times here tonight.
SPEAKER_08We can't see with those lights on, guys. They need them off. They need them first. Thank you.
SPEAKER_06First time the coaches haven't been able to see the lights on. So we're in the booth here and the lights going on and off. It's it's very interesting.
SPEAKER_02It's like the disco days are back.
SPEAKER_06Those are yours, and those are more your your time frame, but you know.
SPEAKER_02That was only three. Well, wait a grass. Balls at the 14-yard line for Lamar's. Is they're gonna start the second half deep in their own territory.
SPEAKER_06Was the disco scene that hopping in Madison?
SPEAKER_02Well, he was hopping.
SPEAKER_06Out of the shotgun for Lamars to start the half. Handoff to Hernandez up the middle. Keeps his feet going, and he's not gonna get a whole lot as the defense closes in on him real fast. And guess who we're talking about? Aesoff and Mickey. We just talked about those boys right there. And how about number 66 for the Healing Crusaders as well? And that was Sebastian Pratt, Seabass getting in there and making a play back.
SPEAKER_02And it's good to see the young sophomore kind of get involved in that. Uh a little cross buck action there as they as they cross those two backs, gaining two, second and eight for Lamars here from uh just inside the 20-yard line.
SPEAKER_06Quarterback Kaparude out of the shotgun, looking left, throwing a bullet, has his man off his helmet, and that pass was right where he wanted it. Colin Murphy couldn't bring it in, and the senior, we wish he had that one back because he had some room if he catches it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and I think uh we see Murphy with that knee brace. I'm I'm guessing that he's kind of rounding back into shape from that knee injury, and he's really been the principal target tonight on a lot of throws here for Copper, and and wisely so. He's a nice receiver.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, big two hundred and five pound, six plus six foot tall, you know, he's a big drink of water out there at the wide receiver position. Now third and eight for the dogs on their first possession here of the second half, trailing seven nothing to Healing on your Security National Bank scoreboard. They can bring the corner blitz. Here it comes. They're gonna everybody back there, and they throw him for a big loss inside the 10. It was it was Brody Schram who came and got the sack. But are they gonna get healing for being offsides?
SPEAKER_02Well, I think it's gonna be declined. I think I think it's gonna be a holding penalty and and decline just.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, they're gonna decline the holding penalty. And they probably would have stopped it if they were offsides anyway. So it doesn't matter.
SPEAKER_02That's a big loss. Ten yards on that loss for the quarterback. He's now got negative 16 yards on the night.
SPEAKER_06And that is a that's a sophomore mistake. That's the one that'll get you. So they're gonna be punting for their own end zone now. On fourth down from their own 10. That means that Hernandez will be standing inside his own end zone about a yard deep. And back to return will be looks like Wegba, and it's gonna be Knapp standing at the 50. Punt is away. It's a really good one. Taken at the 45 by Knapp. 40, 35, 30, a little shake and bake. Still going, breaks three more tackles and still on his feet inside the 35 to the inside the 25 near the 20. A great return by Knapp as he refuses to go down. And Healen is knocking on the door right away in their first possession.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it looks like the ball's gonna be spotted at the 22-yard line near the left hash mark. Now they spot it back to the 23, but great, great field position. Set up by a great defensive stand by the Crusaders there and forcing the issue on the punt. So let's see if the Crusaders can put a little distance here, leading 7-0 with 1039 to go here in quarter number three.
SPEAKER_06That was just sheer will there, partner.
SPEAKER_02Yes, it was.
SPEAKER_06There's somebody that had his jersey, and he just kept pulling, and that jersey kept giving.
SPEAKER_02I tell you what, Dylan Knapp's a tough kid. Yes, sir. He's got a good motor, and he's gonna line up in the top of the eye for the Crusaders here as they got first and ten from the Lamar's 23-yard line. Ten seconds left on the play clock.
SPEAKER_06Knapp under center on the eye formation. First and ten. Handoff to Knapp. Left side, a little wiggle to him, and he doesn't get a whole lot. Nice job defensively there by Cabongo as he comes up and makes the play. Didn't fall for the shake and bake, just went right for his legs and took him down, but he still picks up about two. That'll bring up second and eight.
SPEAKER_02You know, you're getting near the red zone. You know, you just want positive yards on each uh on each play here. Second down and eight now for the Crusaders. Wide side of the field will be the right side as the Crusader uh break huddle with uh 15 seconds to go here. Plenty of time to look over what they got and uh set up in that eye formation, two receivers to the right.
SPEAKER_06Two receivers to his right, eye formation set. Nat Napp that's dots the eye right up the middle, has some room, and then he's trackled and big 75, grabbed the back of him at the last second, and that was Paul Detloff who grabbed him. And Paul Detloff is not a small feller. 335 pounds, and once he grabs a hold of you, you're pretty much done running.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we'll give him seven yards on that carry, brings down uh brings up a third down and a short two here. Ball spotted inside the 15-yard line, near the 14 with 930 to go on your security bank scoreboard. Crusaders trying to add to this 7-0 lead here in the early moments of the third quarter.
SPEAKER_06Crusaders break the huddle. Third and two from the 14, knocking on the door. We'll see if they can take a 14-0 lead on this drive. Quarterback stink up the middle, has the first down and a whole lot more. Still going. The offensive line pushes behind him, and Milky gets a pickup of about five. So he only needed three. He got all that, and then some first down Crusaders. It's gonna be, I think I can put it right at the 10 or right before. So we'll see if the Crusaders can take a two-score lead here with 9-0-2 to go here in the third quarter. It was a big return by Knapp that put Healan inside the 50 to start the drive at about the 25-yard line. Since then, they've just kind of chewed up some yards, and now it's first and goal. Knapp out of the eye. They're gonna toss it to him, left side, looking for the corner, has a block, has another block, big contact at the five, falls down near the two, and it's gonna be second and goal after a gain of eight. It's gonna be second and goal from the two. So Knapp once again getting that corner, and he's able to use his size to get down and get his nose dirty and get an extra couple.
SPEAKER_02Really nice uh lead blocks there on that play. A little sweep action and to get that much space inside the 10. It's nice to see. Ball's gonna be spotted just inside the four. Second and goal for the Crusaders as the clock ticks near eight minutes to go here in the third quarter. Our premier sponsors for tonight's third quarter include Folk Brothers and Prime Bank. Let's see what the Crusaders draw up here on second down and goal from the four.
SPEAKER_06Into the football game is high tree at tailback. He'll be to his right. And he's gonna have big number eight to his left. Pitt, quarterback keeper left side, and he is in. Touchdown Milky on the quarterback keeper left side, had a wall, had some blockers, and he waltzes in for six. And the Crusaders add to that lead. It's now 13-0 guys in gold.
SPEAKER_02Really a nice drive set up by a great return there by Knapp. Getting got the ball started uh inside the 30-yard line of the Bulldogs, and the Crusaders marched in there on six plays, and uh with the PAT pending, it's 13-0 Crusaders here near the midpoint of quarter number three. Herbal then to do the extra point.
SPEAKER_06And holding will be Creon Bridges. Snap back is good, hold is good, kick is up, kick is good. It's 14-0 healing with 7.50 to go in your Security National Bank scoreboard. We'll take a break. When we come back, we'll see if the dogs have an answer. You're listening to Crusader Football in 88.1 Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_06And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders. And welcome back to Memorial Field. Healan kicks it away, and that ball taken at the two, pass the 10, 15, outpost to 20, and they good job on the recover on the uh coverage team there. They've given up some yards on the previous returns, not so much on this one, Bob Year.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that was a that was a nice job. They kind of pinned the pinned the Bulldogs on their own sideline there. Uh uh Raiden Frelick there with part of that tackle. Good to see Raiden out there, one of those young crusaders as uh Bulldogs start their second possession of quarter number three from their own 25-yard line.
SPEAKER_06Copperot under center, turns, hands to Fernandez Hernandez off the left hand side, and how about that? Seabass there again. The sophomore making his presence felt, and he's fired up, Bob Geary. He's feeling it.
SPEAKER_02He's a load of boy.
SPEAKER_06He is.
SPEAKER_02He is a he's a big one, and you know the the coaching staff's excited about him. He's got a voter. He got to grow into the position. Looks like we've got our first cramp of the evening. It gives us a chance to thank our third quarter sponsors. They are Folk Brothers and Prime Bank, along with Catholic Charities, I'm on Communications, Barclay Asphalt, Moder-day Parish, Men's Plumbing and Heating, Greken Family ICare, and Russ and Tina Bertrand, and RJ Tide Company. So big thanks to them and all our great sponsors, Security Bank Scoreboard. Halfway through, or roughly halfway through quarter number three, it's the Crusaders up by two touchdowns, 14 to nothing.
SPEAKER_06If you are Lamar's, are you having some sort of sense of urgency right now, knowing what you know?
SPEAKER_02Well, I think you do. Uh I think you right now the the the success they had between the tackles the first quarter just isn't there. It's gone away. So now you've got of uh you know you got to do some different things, and again, it's not a real big quarterback. Uh when you get into the passing game to look to look over and see things, and uh Crusaders did a nice job of uh dialing up some occasional uh yeah yeah they brought corners, and if you bring if you're bringing corners, it means you've got a lot of faith in what you're doing. So it's a hot night here, as uh not at all unexpected to see some cramping going on.
SPEAKER_06We'll take a quick 30-second time out. When we come back, we'll have the the drive for the oh, he's up. Never mind. Hold on one second.
SPEAKER_02We're gonna keep her right there.
SPEAKER_06Like it was Aldo Gonzalez right there that was cramped up.
SPEAKER_02You know, and Aldo's one of those linemen, it's going both ways.
SPEAKER_06So it's no comb hot dogs. It's a hot night tonight, real difficult.
SPEAKER_02You and I had to carry a buck 40 around. Carrying carrying 200 plus is a whole different ball game, buddy.
SPEAKER_06You are not wrong there, my friend. Huskers taking on Mohio tomorrow. Your thoughts?
SPEAKER_02I'm excited, you know. A lot a lot of uh a lot of uh hype about the new quarterback and uh always is hope springs eternal until that first kickoff.
SPEAKER_06Handoff, right side, another gonna option left, little pitch to the tailback, and he's met out there by Prince Wagba, who stopped it immediately. You know, we've ooh, there's a late flag there, and I think they're gonna get some extra curriculars on healing. I really don't think a late flag comes in, and they're gonna get a little extra hit on the end of that thing. They blew it dead, and I think they threw him down.
SPEAKER_02I tell you what, Prince Wagba came from that secondary and just laid a lick on him.
SPEAKER_06Well, and that was a tough play because a little option pitch, he had a pick one, and he played it perfectly. He let him pitch it, and he went over and got him, and that was a great job of closing the real estate in. They're gonna get Hytree for a little extracurricular activity there. And now now High Tree's gonna get a little extra curricular activity from John LaFleur. And it and it's the son, we don't need to do that. Little pat up, little pat on the numbers and say, have a seat here for a little for a few plays, and I'll get you back in.
SPEAKER_02And Mr. High Tree knows a lot of those Lamars players very well, so it's not at all a surprise there.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_02First and ten from the 45 for the Lamars Bulldogs.
SPEAKER_06Little play action pass, rolling left, throwing, little flick of the wrist, and a little tackle eligible there. Play, and it goes the big number 71.
SPEAKER_02And you gotta look when that sends you down to the score sheet.
SPEAKER_06Yes, when Oliver Rutledge is making a play and catching balls, you gotta search through your sheet there. Find that number on your on your uh on your score code.
SPEAKER_02Nice gain on first down, five yards, ball spotted directly in at midfield, second down and five for the Bulldogs. Ball spot at the left hash mark right wide side of the field to the right. As Lamar looks over to their coaching staff, and now they're gonna break huddle.
SPEAKER_06They're gonna go out of shotgun formation, one wide receiver each way, one running back behind him. Handoff up the middle. It's Hernandez, puts his head down and rumbles, and he's got some room. He might go. 30, 25, 20, 15, 10, 5, touchdown dogs.
SPEAKER_02Just like that, we have a game.
SPEAKER_06Hernandez breaks one for some big yardage. He goes for 50. And just like that, we got a football game again.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely. And uh tell you what, he's a nice looking running back. He is a load. He is tough to bring down on first contact, and that time uh was hit at the initial line of scrimmage and broke a tackle and showed some good speed there.
SPEAKER_06I was gonna say when he got past there and it was a foot race, that defensive backfield to heal and is pretty fast, and they weren't catching him.
SPEAKER_0214 rushes now for 87 yards and a touchdown for uh Mr. Hernandez.
SPEAKER_06So that will bring on the field goal unit to try to make this a seven-point game. Kick is up and the kick is good.
SPEAKER_02Jordan Luna adds the extra point. And with 6-12 to go here in quarter number three, it's now the Crusaders 14 and Lamar 7 on your Security National Bank scoreboard.
SPEAKER_06The dog's answer. We'll see if the Crusaders have an answer for the answer. Right when we come back, you're listening to 88.1 Cavic Radio. This is Crusader Football.

SPEAKER_06And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders. And welcome back to Memorial Field. Travis Morgan, Bob Geary here with you on a hot night, and we got a hot game in front of us. After a 50-yard touchdown run by the Dogs, it's 14-7. Healing maintaining that lead. And now they're there to get it back and see if they can make it happen offensively again. Ball skips into the end zone, they'll bring it out, and the Crusaders will start their possession here at the 20.
SPEAKER_02Barely into the end zone. I don't shave that close. Wow.
SPEAKER_06And that took a back spin, a little back spin, backspin back. The whole press buck was like, ooh, ooh, ooh. That could have gone badly. Yes, it could have.
SPEAKER_02But uh nonetheless, Crusaders will take over from their own 20-yard line here now, leading just 14-7 here with 6-12 to go, or excuse me, 6'11 to go here in the third quarter.
SPEAKER_06Folk Brothers are sponsor here.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely, our third quarter sponsors are Folk Brothers and Prime Bank. They are your premier third quarter sponsors. Those and a host of others make all this possible. We love it. It's Crusader football, first and ten from the 20.
SPEAKER_06It's going to be Milky out of the gun. And of course, to his left will be Dylan Knapp. Fake the handoff to Knapp. Throwing left. Little short pass. Ball is deflected in the air and almost intercepted. They got lucky there. And we called for it earlier, Bob. We said the intermediate short passes are there, and we'll see if that works. And they're they're trying it, and that one just tipped. And boy, anytime a ball is tipped in on a short little intermediate pass like that, you just kind of hold your breath.
SPEAKER_02Brings you get flashbacks to the old trip tip drills back in high school. Amen. That's right. Pull that baby up there and go get it. Yes, sir. You know, he's got a strong arm. You got to get those hands ready there when those short passes. Second down and ten now. 6'05 to go here in quarter. Number three, Crusaders up seven on your Security National Bank scoreboard.
SPEAKER_06From their own 20, Milky out of the gun. Trips wide receivers to his left, the strong side of the field. Back to pass with time. Good protection. Steps up. Now gonna throw it. Now he's gonna run it, and he's gonna get thrown for a big loss. And I gotta tell you, number 55, and he has been in the backfield. Chase Hammonds has had himself a football game tonight. And he just got himself another sack. Oh, no, that was number 58, excuse me. That's Ben either way. Regnator has also been all over the field. Those two boys have been in the backfield a lot.
SPEAKER_02That is a very good uh tackle combination. Loss of five on that sack there. It's gonna bring up third and fifteen. Crusaders have the ball spotted at their own 15-yard line here. So third and long from uh Shadows to their own goal post here with 553 to go in the third quarter. Let's see what uh the Crusaders dial up here.
SPEAKER_06Not what Hein had in mind because now Lamar's has got some momentum after that touchdown, and you go three and out and give them the ball back, they're feeling pretty good about themselves, and all of a sudden this things could get really tight. Out of the shotgun formation again. Back to passes Milky looking over the middle, little screen up to the middle of the field, and he's got some blockers and he's got some room. Can he cut it back? He does, he's got the first down and a whole lot more out past the 40 to the 41, and that was Dylan Knapp, who did a lot of damage right there. He caught the middle screen and he did a lot with it once he caught it. Great piece of running there in the open field, Bob.
SPEAKER_02Perfectly timed there. Very nice play there. 26 yards on that reception for Knapp. That puts uh Mr. Milky over 100 yards on the night with 103 unofficial yards through the air. Big first down for the Crusaders to get him up near midfield.
SPEAKER_06Great job by the offensive line to get upfield. He had some blockers that were really hauling upfield to make him get a couple extra there. Good job of blocking downfield by the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_02And a good job by Dillon to break that first tackle.
SPEAKER_06Under shot uh eye formation. They're gonna run play action again, rolling to his left, throwing, has a man on the field, and there it wasn't May. It was Matumbo who was all along the 45, hit him in the numbers, and he dropped it. And you hate to see it because that young man could use a little confidence. Absolutely. And he just let it hit he he was so open and hit him in the numbers, he was looking to score that thing.
SPEAKER_02That's a tough break. That's uh that's a 160-pound cornerback's worst nightmare. 225 pounds rolling down on you. But uh this gotta this couldn't hold in really nice. Nicely delivered by Eli there. Uh really, really nice pass.
SPEAKER_06What they're gonna tell him next week or tomorrow in film is catch it with your hands, big boy. Don't let it hit your chest. And that's lesson learned, and he'll take that one and put it in, put it in the back of his mind. And they're gonna send Gonzalez off. He must be bleeding or something, I don't know. Or he's got an equipment issue.
SPEAKER_02Also, want to thank Catholic charities. I'm on communications, Barclay Asphalt, Moder-day Paris, Rens, Plumbing and Heating, Greken Family ICARE and Russ and Tina Bertrand and RJ Tig Company for their sponsorship. There's a nice sweep to the left or left side and uh shut off at the point of attack.
SPEAKER_06Not much doing. It was Drew Reaganetter, the younger Drew Regenerator, the older of the Reaganators, with the big tackle there.
SPEAKER_02It's kind of a kind of a fun football name.
SPEAKER_06Yes, Reganator. Uh he throws Bergen for no gain, loss of one, actually. That'll bring up third and long again. So they've converted third and long once on this drive. Now they have to do it again, and we'll see what Mr. What Mr. Milke can do with his arm. My guess is unfortunately he's he's got he's kind of closer to the left-hand side. Not a lot of room to roll to his left-handed side, but we'll see what happens here. Out of the gun. They go three wide to the short side of the field. Nap to his right, back to pass, out of the gun, looking, still looking, throwing, has a man, and it's Whitcomb at the 45. 40, look out, he might go. 30, 25, 20, 15, 10, 5 house. It's a house call, but unfortunately, we have laundry on the field. And this one might be coming back.
SPEAKER_0259 big ones on that uh touchdown pass. But once again, uh great job by Milky of avoiding the pass rush and finding uh Wickham.
SPEAKER_06They're gonna get an eligible receiver downfield on Nolan Mickey.
SPEAKER_02You know, and that's a tough situation because the quarterback breaks possible. He was running, you're never quite sure what he's gonna do.
SPEAKER_06And uh it just goes to show though with Wickcomb, he doesn't need much. Boy, he does not that like that inner those intermediate passes need to be almost a staple because there's here's a kid that can really take it a distance. He doesn't need anything. The smallest sliver, and he can make it into something big. And you and you could just sense it too. The whole crowd knows it. He caught the ball with some space, and everybody was like just on the edge of their seats right away.
SPEAKER_02Really nicely done. Let's see if we can do it again. So this brings up third down and 14 now for the Crusaders. 351 to go here in quarter three. Again, the Crusaders up by seven, fourteen-seven on your security bank scoreboard.
SPEAKER_06From their own 36. Here we go. Can they convert again on third down? Milky back to pass out of the gun. Flags fly. And maybe they got them to move a little bit. No, they're gonna get they're gonna get false start on the offense, backing them up five more. So went from third and fourteen to third and nineteen. It's not getting any easier, man.
SPEAKER_02Kind of making the march back to Hamilton Boulevard, and that's not a good sign going this way.
SPEAKER_06It's like the movie uh Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. You're going the wrong way. How do we know? How do they know where we're going? Yeah, how do we know?
SPEAKER_02Well, here we go. Third and nineteen.
SPEAKER_06Third and nineteen. Not many plays in the playbook here.
SPEAKER_02He kind of have to go to page seven for that one.
SPEAKER_06There's only six pages in the book, so you do the math.
SPEAKER_02So Mill.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. That's right. You're the bottle cap. You're the straw. He's got two wide receivers to the right, one to the left. And you better hurry up because you got three seconds of the play clock. Now two, now one. They're not going to get off in time. They do get it off in time. Amazingly, he's going to throw it up. He's got a man near the first down sticks, and the ball is incomplete. The defense came and knocked it away right at the sticks. And Healan will bring on the punt team. And I can't believe they didn't get him for delay a game because that clock was zero before that thing was snapped. They got away with one.
SPEAKER_02Now we could use a big punt here and uh get that defense to ratchet things up again. As this uh the tide in this game has switched here in the middle part of the third quarter with uh the Bulldogs scoring that uh on that long touchdown run and cutting it just to a 14-7 game.
SPEAKER_06So Herbold will do the punting duties, and he's standing inside his own 20. Punt is away, end over ender, takes a bounce to the 40, skips forward to the 35, big healing bounce, past the 30, and out near the 27-yard line. So a nice piece of punting there by Herbold, and he's been pretty solid this year getting that thing away.
SPEAKER_0242 yards, no return from that punt. Uh, nicely done there as the Crusaders uh defense is gonna take the take the field. Once again, a reminder that we're back on the air next week. Pregame 6:30, kickoff 7 o'clock as we move across town to Morningside to take on the uh the East Side Black Raiders in uh what should be another classic showdown between two longtime rivals.
SPEAKER_06And Lamar's quickly on the ball here to get this drive started with all that momentum, handoff up the middle, and I'm guessing Hernandez still going. How does he stay up? He had he was mumbled up and just kept turning and they kept moving the pile, and all of a sudden he broke out and somebody brought him down, but not before he picked up about seven yards. And right now, Bob, this offense has got it going on the ground.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely. Uh Trent Baker on the tackle there for the uh Crusaders. But another big run for Mr. Hernandez as he's clicking near 100 points or 100 yards on the night. Well, King's like, feed me the rock, I'm hot.
SPEAKER_06Out of the gun. Turn, hand to Hernandez, right side. Bounces off one tackle, bounces off two tackles, still going, and he's got the first down. So the Healing defense is not wrapping him up, and they're just kind of they're they're hitting him, they're not wrapping, and he's able to, if a guy like him now, as this game gets gets further in, he is gonna become a problem if you're not gonna wrap up.
SPEAKER_0216 carries, 99 yards on the night unofficially, for Mr. Hernandez. 237 to go here. First and 10 for Lamar's.
SPEAKER_06Out of the gun. Handoff to Hernandez trying to find a hole. He's got one, gets five. So he's going at about five yards a clip right now for Mr. Hernandez, and the only bad part about that is it's good for a while until your running back gets tired at five o'clock. And uh but Mr. Hernandez has got it working right now.
SPEAKER_02You gotta be really careful here because they're they're gradually getting that defense piled inside the inside the uh hash marks there. And this is a prime uh play action pass situation here for the Bulldogs.
SPEAKER_06It's Copper Root out of the shotgun on second and five. They're gonna run option left. They get pitch it, man. Pitch pitch has it, and he's hit there by Wegba and knocked out of bounds near the sticks. I think he's gonna be about a yard short. It's gonna bring up third and about one. Maybe they got him out a little earlier than that.
SPEAKER_02On the 49s, Cabango with that carry there. We'll give him three on the carries.
SPEAKER_06So Lamar's in a hurry up right now on third and short. Turns, hands to Hernandez, cuts it back, makes one guy miss, and then falls forward for the first down. He's brought down there by High Tree. But not before he grabs the first down and puts Lamar's inside Healing territory.
SPEAKER_02Clock ticks under a minute and a half left here in the third quarter. Lamar's on the on the move here, trailing 14-7 on your Security National Bank scoreboard.
SPEAKER_06You can feel it and you can see it, Bob. Their sideline is fired up right now. The crowd is into it, and just kind of the sense of momentum on Healand's side where they're starting to drop their heads a little bit and they're getting tired. Handoff Hernandez cuts it back, makes the first guy miss, and gets through for a pickup of four. So Hernandez just continues to chew up time and chew up yards as they get closer and closer to that goal line down there. It's not a very big pickup, but he's made the first guy miss consistently here in the second half.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Gonzalez and uh Mickey on that tackle for the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_06Handoff Hernandez again up the middle, this time straight forward, and he's met, but not before he picks up about six.
SPEAKER_02Really nice uh second level tackle by Dylan Knapp there to stop him in his in his tracks. If he misses, it's gone. Unfortunately, it was five yards after he got to the through the line of scrimmage, and he just keeps right on rolling here. Third down and two for the Bulldogs.
SPEAKER_06I don't think anybody's gonna be happier to see that quarter come to an end than than than John LaFleur. Yeah. His guys need a break right now in the worst way. And all likelihood the last play of the quarter. Handoff Hernandez stumbles his way forward, breaks the first tackle, and then he's met, and that was Whitcomb who came up and made the stop. He had the help.
SPEAKER_0221 carries, 120 yards for Hernandez there.
SPEAKER_06And ASOF was in on that play, too. And that's the end of the quarter. So as we head to the fourth, folks, if you got a seat belt, click it. Because buckle up. We got a heck of a ride coming for you. Oh, there's six seconds left. They didn't run it out. And that's because they got ASOF down there working on him with the cramp. To thank our third quarter sponsors again here, Bob Geer there.
SPEAKER_02All right, our third quarter is brought to you by our premier third quarter sponsors, Folk Brothers and Prime Bank, along with Catholic Charities. I'm on Communications, Barclay Asphalt, Moder Day Parish, Ren Plumbing and Heating, Grekin Family Eye Care, and Russ and Tina Bertran, along with RJ Tig Company. A big thanks to them and all our great sponsors, Wonderwrite Healing Athletics here on Catholic Radio. We can't thank you enough for your great service to the community and uh helping us bring you Crusader Athletics through the course of the year.
SPEAKER_06It's a very interesting game the way this is played out because it feels like Healen has done the most damage and has been in control of this football game for the most of it. And now all of a sudden you look over the scoreboard, it's 14-7. And Lamars has the football and they're moving it. And Healing hasn't had an answer here in the second half.
SPEAKER_02No, they haven't, and that's going to end the third quarter as they click the clock. And uh we're gonna start the fourth quarter with a first and ten for the Crusaders or for the uh Bulldogs at the Crusader 35 yard line.
SPEAKER_06As I said, if there's a if you got if you got a seat belt, click it up, baby, because we got the fourth quarter coming, and it is gonna be a dandy. The ride continues for the fourth quarter straight ahead. 14-7 Healing trying to hang on to this thing. We got one quarter left. Join us for the rest of it as we come back. You're listening to 88.1 Catholic Radio. The fourth quarter is next, right here on Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_06And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders. Welcome back to Memorial Field as we start the fourth quarter. Handoff to Hernandez right side, and this time not a lot going. That's the best job they've done at stopping him here so far the second half. High tree got in there with some help with some defensive lineman. It's a gain of one. That'll bring up second and nine from the 34. 1135 to go. 14-7 healing on your Security National Bank scoreboard. And watch out because the dogs have been rolling on offense here so far in the last few minutes of this game.
SPEAKER_02It's really really been their hand edge, though, as he's uh he's just finding all kinds of room up the middle here.
SPEAKER_06This time play action, Hernandez. They're gonna throw it and it is incomplete. And they went away from they went away. You said they're gonna try to play action here in a minute. They did. They didn't take it deep though, they just went down there and probably third and nine. Do you go away from the run there on second down and long?
SPEAKER_02I I don't think so, but uh we got uh 134 or excuse me, 34 yards on just nine throws tonight for the Bulldogs. Along with Meyer Brothers Funeral Home, Cyberclove Tech LLC, Empirical Foods, Greenville Pharmacy, Brower Cliff University, Catholic Connection Scholarship, Dunes Family, Daniel for Kids, Mai Jeweler, and Greg and Chrissy Okam, and uh had some great news on a former Crusader today, didn't we?
SPEAKER_06Boy, I'd say something. If you saw the video, if you're on social media and you watched the Arizona video of Quinn Olson, now two years ago, Quinn Olsen playing quarterback for the for the Healing Crusaders, and he ripped it up. Boy, he had one of the most impressive years we've had at quarterback in a long, long time. And but he wasn't getting a lot of looks. He wasn't getting a lot of looks. Arizona gave him a shot, and we all said, whoever gives that young man a shot is going to get a gym. And yesterday the coach went on, did a special video about this high school quarterback that came in, has a 3.9 GPA, does all the things right, and is made to made the starting defense at safety, and just happened to be on scholarship as of the day. What an unbelievable story for Quinn Olsen, and congratulations to Quinn. You know, an unbelievable human being, an unbelievable student, and a great athlete, and couldn't happen to a nicer kid and a kid that deserves it more, Bob.
SPEAKER_02Great family, too. So boy, I couldn't be prouder of Quinn than uh go Arizona.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, go go Cats. So here we go. Third and nine for the dogs from the 34. Down by seven. Ball is loose on the ground. No, they pick it up, and it's he's got it, and he's got the first down and a couple more. It's Cabongo. It looked that the ball was it looked the ball came loose. I don't know, man. I don't know if the ball the ball came loose or what happened, but the ball was in the air for a moment. Cabongo came up with it, and he ran it for a first down. And now somebody's injured again on the far sideline. Looks like a Lamar's player is hurt over there. No, it is a Crusader.
unknownWhere are we at, guys? We're on the 23.
SPEAKER_06And they got the first down, so it's gonna be first and ten for Lamar's.
SPEAKER_02Ball's gonna be spotted. It looks like the 20 just outside the 22-yard line for the Bulldogs. 11-04 to go. Just a one-touchdown game with the Crusaders up 14-7 here. And uh now you're starting to see the heat kind of take its effect with a lot of the players, and uh understandably so. It's it's been a warm night and a hard-fought uh contest here.
SPEAKER_06Let's take a one-minute break. When we come back, we'll have more. Right now, injury timeout here on the field. This is 88.1 Catholic Radio 14 7, Healing here in the fourth.

SPEAKER_06And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders. And here we go, welcome back. It's second and nine for Lamars from the 19. Ten minutes to go, 14-7 healing on the Security National Bank scoreboard. Handoff Hernandez. And that guy just is slicker than just slick. He was able to get away from the first the first defender and somehow pick up a couple extra yards. They had him in the backfield again, partner. Really?
SPEAKER_02They had him in the backfield again. Really a perfectly timed blitz by the Crusaders. They blitzed right into it, even with that. Hernandez was able to pick up two. And once again, we've got a player down on the field as the heat is starting to take its effect.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it really is claiming a lot of guys here on every play.
SPEAKER_02Waters a must. I would imagine you're seeing that across the state tonight. Uh hydration breaks uh plenty. Third down and eight here for the Bulldogs. Boy, what a what a big possession here with 1026 to go in in the ball game. Crusaders holding on to just a one touchdown margin here.
SPEAKER_06Obviously two-down territory.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Crusaders again uh will be uh making a short trip across town to take on the East Side Black Raiders next week. Pregame 630 and game time seven o'clock. Travis and I will have the call here from the morning side.
SPEAKER_06That's a big injury, though, Bob, because right now the guy they're helping off the field is Hernandez.
SPEAKER_02Well, if anybody has a has an excuse to have a tramp, it's Hernandez.
SPEAKER_06You are correct, partner. That is how many toasts does he have?
SPEAKER_0223 carries, 123 yards.
SPEAKER_06He has done some serious damage tonight, and that kid has done everything right. And unfortunately, if you're Lamar's Bulldogs, your workhorse has just taken a seat with the most important play coming up the ballgame so far for you. It's third and eight from the 20. 10-22 to go here, fourth quarter. Healing holding on to that seven-point lead. The best running back for Lamar's now, out for at least one play. We'll see what they do. They're gonna fake the handoff, gonna go to the air. Up top, near the end zone, and he's just in and just incomplete. Wegba, great coverage, one-on-one. Even if he caught it, Wegba was gonna be right there to deflect the ball away. He was on him like ugly on an eight, my friend. It was he was right there.
SPEAKER_02Very nicely covered there. As it's gonna bring up a fourth down. Let's see if uh how much confidence they might have in their kicker. Still enough time here with 10-05, maybe, to cut into this seven-point lead, but looks like the Bulldogs are gonna roll the dice and go for it here on fourth and eight.
SPEAKER_06Great piece of coverage by Prince there in man-to-man coverage. Was able to knock that just even if the pass got there, he was gonna be able to make that play.
SPEAKER_02I think you're gonna see him take a timeout here, and probably not a bad timeout to give Hernandez maybe a little chance to heal up a little bit here before this crucial fourth down and eight. Uh with that, we're gonna take it back to the studio. Once again, with 1005 to go here in the ballgame. Crusaders up 14-7. A fourth down and eight from the Crusader 20. We'll be right back after this 30-second spot.

SPEAKER_06And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders. And welcome back to Memorial Field. Travis Morgan, Bob Gear here with you. The play of the night is right now. Fourth and eight from the 20. And Hernandez is back in the game for this play. And they're going to need him for it. Fourth and eight. This is big. The Healan Crusaders need a stop here. And Lamar's has to get it. Here you go. Fourth and eight from the 20. They're going to try that little reverse play again, and this time Healan's all over it, and there's nowhere to go. And Healen holds.
SPEAKER_02A really nice little uh inside inside reverse there to the short side of the field, and they just ran out of space, Travis. Cabango is able to pick up three yards, but it's well short of the first down. Big stop by the Crusader defense there. They tried they tried that reverse.
SPEAKER_06It worked well the first time. Full me once. So healing now, but now if you're healing, you got to do something with it here. Give your defense a chance to rest a little bit and run some time.
SPEAKER_02Still uh ticks on the old clock here. 9.57 to go here in the fourth quarter. Again, the Crusaders holding on to that one touchdown margin 14-7 on your security bank scoreboard. They're going to start with the ball at their own 18-yard line.
SPEAKER_06Eye formation set with Bergen, the deep back. Two wide receivers to the right. Handoff to Bergen. Tries to get his way forward and get to the left and not not doing anything there. Draw down by number 50, 35. 57 there. That was Sano who came up and stopped him. And they just that defensive line has done a great job tonight of stopping that Healing defense, a Healing rushing attack.
SPEAKER_02Well, and Coach alluded to that. That's a big line there. And uh they're certainly uh living up to what he talked about there. We'll give them generously a gain of one there, second down and long nine.
SPEAKER_06They break the huddle with the eye formation set again, and once again, it's the sophomore running back, Javon Bergen, dotting the eye. Two wide receivers to the right. Fake the handoff, rolling to his right, looking. Milky has a man, and Kabong, or excuse me, it was uh Matumbo was looking for the catch, and he's gonna just short it a little bit. That that one really had trouble written from the beginning as he's rolling to his right. There was pressure, it didn't look good from the get-go.
SPEAKER_02Well, and he just don't like to throw against the grain in that situation. That's a dangerous one, but uh falls incomplete. Third down and ten here for the Crusaders. Let's see if they can draw something up to grab a first down here. 909 to go in the ballgame again, 14-7. Crusaders.
SPEAKER_06We'll see if Mr. Milkey has some magic left here on third and a long nine. He's gonna have knapped to his left, two wide receivers each way here from their own 18. Man in motion from left to right. Is Moss looking left, throwing, has a man. It's Prince Wakebutt, and he almost slips out of it for a big yard touchdown, but he just gets tripped up by the shoestrings, but he's got the first down, and that's a big one, my friend. Prince comes up big with a catch, and boy, was he just about a half inch from breaking that thing for a big touchdown. They got him by the shoestrings and he went down.
SPEAKER_02Really a nice play design because they cleared the they cleared that side of the field out and gave Prince uh man-to-man coverage there. And Prince responded with a 12-yard catch and run there and gives the Crusaders a big first down here as the clock ticks under nine minutes to go.
SPEAKER_06And Milky threw a dart there, boy.
SPEAKER_02Yes, he did.
SPEAKER_06All right, so a fresh, fresh set of downs here now for the Crusaders as they go I formation again. Handoff, left side, and that's gonna be Bergen again. And Bergen once again is fighting for everything he gets, which isn't much. Give him a yard again, and that's to bring up second and nine. Now a flag comes in late, and I think we have some talking going on. Where Bergen took his helmet off, one of the two. We'll see what happens here as the refs discuss it, and they're gonna get back to us.
SPEAKER_02Fourth quarter tonight is brought to you by. Let me get my notes here. Uh, central bank is our premier sponsor along with Central Bank. It's Meyer Brother Funeral. Oh, it's a big one. Meyer Brother Funeral Home, Cybercloak Tech LLC, Empirical Foods, Greenville Pharmacy, Briarcliffe University Catholic Connection Scholarship, Dunes Family Dental for Kids, Mike Jeweler and Greg and Christy Yoakum has uh big 15 yard penalty as leveled against uh Lamar's Bulldog for unsportsman like conduct and uh they get kabongo and that uh puts the crusaders back up now to the forty seven yard line as they near midfield here with four. With 848 to go, leading by seven.
SPEAKER_06What a huge penalty. Massive penalty on Cabongo. And now the Crusaders are right at midfield near it. Fake the handoff on the reverse. Has a man. It's Prince again, this time near the first down again. What a horrible spot. What a horrible spot. They gave him a half yard short. Kid caught it for a first down and look about like a look like a little bit more, and they're going to mark him a half yard short. That's all right. All right. So it's second down and a half yard. As a nice pitch and catch. And boy, we talked about Prince getting involved a little bit more this uh at the beginning of the show, and he has been that tonight.
SPEAKER_02And that is probably his best asset as a quarterback is those tight throws like that. As hard as he throws and as clean as he throws it. And uh great catch by Prince there.
SPEAKER_06Boy, Whitcomb's got single coverage down here at the bottom of your screen. Fake the handoff. No, they're gonna give it to him. Knapp up the middle, has some room to run, still rumbling, and he's got 10, got 12. And Knapp gets a big one here, and Hewan's starting to take control now offensively and starting to get a foothold. And they got things rolling here, Bob Geary. And you think momentum is carrying them, but also just the fact they can pin their ears back and go on that defense. Everybody's getting a little tired, and that that benefits the offense.
SPEAKER_02That's probably the most impressive run of the night as far as the blocking as well as the carry by Knapp. There, big first down. Crusaders move inside the 35-yard line. First and 10, Crusaders, 7.5 to go here in your ballgame.
SPEAKER_06Three wide receivers to his right, two to his left for Milky. He's the only person back there. On first and ten from the 34, 7.24 to go. Quarterback keeper. And almost gets the ball ripped out. Nolan Grage came over and did the smart thing, went right for the football, and Milky did a good job of putting his other hand on it and putting it, tucking it away. That's just a great job by the quarterback.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and I like the play call there. Yeah. You know, you had a lot of action there, a little play fake on the sweep to the right side, but uh really again good defense by the interior part of the Lamar's defense.
SPEAKER_06And that ball security by the quarterback, that was really key. Because they went for it.
SPEAKER_02No gain on that play, second down and ten. 651 as the clock ticks down. Crusaders up by a touchdown on your security bank scoreboard.
SPEAKER_06From Lamar's 34. Healing marching and trying to close this thing out and put a nail in the coffin. They're only up by seven. Milky under center this time of the eye formation. Handoff. Left side, and that goes to Knapp. And Knapp trying to get loose. Gets about four yards. They're going to give him three, and that'll bring up second, third, third now, and seven. So third and seven on the on the play. Big play coming up now because now you want to get close to make that fourth down manageable and keep that clock rolling. Because if you you can, if you're healing right now, you can if you put one together, you can pretty much run this thing out.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely. And uh kind of getting on the fringes of field goal zone here. Uh they're gonna need a few more yards here. Big third down and seven for the Crusaders. Again, ball spotted just outside the 30-yard line of Lamar's.
SPEAKER_06Trips wide receiver to the right, gonna send Knap in motion to the right as well. Milky looking, throwing, has a man. Oh my goodness, and he's decked, and they could have got him for the flag, and they did. Yes, sir.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that was a launch there.
SPEAKER_06Cooper pick. Cooper pick absolutely drilled Moss, but then you can't stand over him and celebrate, and that's exactly what he did. He hit him, stood over him, and taunted him, and they're gonna get him for 15. And that, my friend, is a massive penalty.
SPEAKER_02And it might have been a head-to-head contact as well. I don't uh know for sure what they're gonna end up with here. You can get one for one three either way. That was a violent collision.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_06It was it was an absolute shot he took, and for Napter for Moss to get right up. Yep, they got him for the head contact of a defenseless player, and that's 15. And that was you're looking at fourth down right there. It was gonna be fourth and nine, and now it's an automatic first down and 15. So that puts Healen now at the 16-yard line with 551 to go and gives him a first down, two massive penalties here on this drive alone by Lamar's.
SPEAKER_02Yes, because that was vicious. That was a vicious hit there.
SPEAKER_06He got him right under the chin with the top of his helmet, and his helmet actually popped up over his head.
SPEAKER_02One of the uh really good things they've done in c in all levels of football is take away that head-to-head contact. And uh that was certainly uh that was a text back textbook case right there.
SPEAKER_06Yes, sir. Eye formation set, gonna pitch it out to the right hand side, the sophomore running back, and that's Bergen. And Bergen tries to tiptoe his way forward and get something, but not a lot there as the guys in white stiffen up. And now, if you're if you're Lamar's right now, you're not you're looking for turnover or just forced field goal in that best case scenario, really.
SPEAKER_02Well, I think any points for the Crusaders right here are gonna be huge as the clock ticks down under six minutes. Actually, five and a half minutes to go here, second down now and nine, and really a pretty good job by Bergen just to get back to the line of scrimmage and get one yard there. Ball spotted right in the middle of the field. Crusaders in no hurry coming out of that huddle.
SPEAKER_06After this play is run, they'll be under five minutes to go in the football game. Eye formation, and it's gonna be Knapp, the deep setback, Moss, the fullback, in front of him. Play action, rolling to his left, looking, stopping, now looking, and he's got some time to throw back to the right side, looking, and he's just in and out of the hands of Moss. He was a little high. Moss had to high point it and go way up for it. The ball was pretty uncatch and uncatchable, but it was a good job by Milky just to buy the time to get away. I thought he was gonna make the mistake and get sacked back there, and it almost happened. So third and nine now.
SPEAKER_02Again, I wouldn't mind seeing that that little screen type action here and just uh get a few positives. Keep it in play, you know, keep the clock running. Yeah, you know Lamar's is gonna come with her ears peeled back here. It's definitely a passing situation, third and nine.
SPEAKER_06Look for Wickham here on a slant, possibly as well. Here you go. Out of the shotgun. Milky back to pass, looking right. Now stepping up, has all the all the room in the world to run. He tucks it in and keeps it, and he's short of the first down, but it's gonna bring up fourth and a long one. Milky, if he'd have tucked it sooner, probably scores a touchdown. The whole press buck yelling, run, run, run.
SPEAKER_02It's an interesting situation here. Fourth and two. Uh you know, you got a pretty good field goal kicker, and a 10-point lead would be pretty big here, but it looks like they're gonna roll the dice and try and pick this up here. Get behind the hogmollies.
SPEAKER_06Get behind the old hog mollies and let them do their thing. Here you go. So a huge play in the football game, biggest so far. It's fourth and two. From the eight, four minutes to go in the football game. Milky out of the gun. Nap to his right. They tried the hard snap and they got him. They got the timeout first. Oh my goodness. Yes, they did give the timeout.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think.
SPEAKER_06Lamar's called timeout.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, John called it out.
SPEAKER_06Or John called timeout.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_06Healing calls timeout, and they got him to jump. Well, either way.
SPEAKER_02Well, I think they wanted to see. I I'll be real surprised if they don't try and kick a field goal here in this situation.
SPEAKER_06All right, we'll take a quick 30-second timeout. When we come back, we'll have the big play. You know, let's just keep it here. We're gonna keep it here. We're not gonna go anywhere. We're not gonna go anywhere here.
SPEAKER_02One more shout out to our fourth quarter sponsors. They are central bank. They are our premier sponsor along with Central Bank, our other sponsors for this exciting fourth quarter, include My Brother Funeral Home, Cybercloak Tech, LLC, Empirical Foods, Greenville Pharmacy, the Catholic Connection Scholarships at Briar Cliff University, Dunes Family Dental for Kids, My Jeweler and Greg and Krista Yocum. A big thanks to them and all our outstanding sponsors, the Wonderwrite Healing Athletics here on Catholic Radio. We got a big field goal coming up for the Crusaders to try and put a little spread in this thing. 14-7, Crusaders 4-0-2 to go here. It's going to be a 25-yard kick off the left hash mark. Herbold back to do it.
SPEAKER_06Snap is not very good. The hold was outstanding, and the kick is good. Wow. What a hold by Creon Bridges, partner. That ball rolled back to him, and he was able to grab it in front of him and pop it up just in time for Herbold to get his foot on it. What a great hole!
SPEAKER_02Great job. 24-yard field goal. Moves this moves the spread now to 10 to or excuse me, uh 17-7-point spread here with 357 to go and uh take it back to the studio for a quick 30-second timeout. We come back. Uh Lamar's is gonna try and answer.
SPEAKER_06Let's see if the dogs have an answer. You're listening to 88.1 Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_21Since 1891, Prime Bank has been part of your story. Standing beside farm families, cheering on small businesses, and helping young families find home. For generations, you've counted on us for stability, growth, and the safety of your money. Because it's never just about banking, it's about people. We're your neighbors, and neighbors take care of each other. Prime Bank, learn more your way. Number FDIC.
SPEAKER_06And now back to Crusaders Reports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voices of the Crusaders. A lot of things went wrong, and a lot of the Crusaders did it right. Saron Bridges was the holder. The ball rolled pretty much rolled back to him. He was able to get it up, prop it up, and then Herbal was able to knock it through from a tough angle in left hash to give the Crusaders a 10-point lead, Babbo.
SPEAKER_02There are no pictures on the scoreboard.
SPEAKER_06There are no amen. Kick is deep, taken at the two. They're going to bring it out. And he's met there by Finnegan Peck. A nice job there by Finnegan Peck, and he adds some help by number 24, Tommy Carroll. So a nice job defensively by the Crusader kickoff team.
SPEAKER_02The Finn and TC bring him down there. Ball's going to be spotted at the 25-yard line. 75 yards away from Pay Dirt. Crusaders up 17-7 here with 350 to go in your ballgame, trying to snap their initial win of the 2026 season here. It's been a hard-fought one with Lamars.
SPEAKER_06They got to go a long way to cut it to three. Back to pass, looking. Here comes the pressure. Asoff misses him and he spins away from another, and then a host of Crusaders wrap him up. A nice job there by Copa Rude, the sophomore quarterback, just to get out of trouble and get four. But time isn't at time is of the essence right now if you're wearing white. And the dogs need to get going. They got now a long way to go from their own 28. Back to pass. Here comes the pressure rolling, still looking, still rolling, throwing to his left, has a man, and it is caught at near the 40. Are they going to say it's complete or incomplete? Did it hit the ground first? It hit the ground first. Croppen did a nice job of rolling to his left and throwing, but just one hopped it to his wide receiver.
SPEAKER_02Boy, I tell you what, it's anytime you put it in the air around Wagba or Wickham, you kind of got to hold your breath.
SPEAKER_06You do. You do, boy. Those boys can flat out close in a hurry. And the worst part is if they get it, there's a really good chance they're going to house it.
SPEAKER_02Boy, Copper's he's going to field this game tomorrow when he wakes up.
SPEAKER_06And so is Hernandez. All right, so Copper Root out of the gun. Two wide receivers to the left, one to the right, man in motion from left to right. Now they're going to throw. Deep. Has a man down the middle of the field, and it is almost caught and almost intercepted and dropped. Great job by Trent Baker to Trent Baker came up and popped him and jarred the ball loose to make sure he couldn't catch it, but it was a great throw by Copper. He put it right on the money. It is not the quarterback's fault on that one.
SPEAKER_02So fourth down. He can't catch him. No.
SPEAKER_06If yard, he passed. Yes. So here you go. Here's your ballgame if you're Lamar's. You gotta have it here because you're going for it on fourth down inside your own inside your own 25.
SPEAKER_02I think they're gonna punt it, Travis.
SPEAKER_06They are gonna punt it away. Why would you punt it right now?
SPEAKER_02Well they're probably gonna live with their timeouts here and try and they punt it away, nobody back to return it.
SPEAKER_06Wisely so. Ball takes a bounce inside the 30 now at about the 27-yard line. So under three minutes to go, 259 to go. They punt it away, and so 259 to go, and Healing can close this thing out with a couple of first downs.
SPEAKER_02Yes, they can.
SPEAKER_06Now, Lamar's has two first downs to give. But a couple, like I said, maybe even one first down pretty much does it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And you just get the feeling uh get a steady dose of Dylan Knapp, right?
SPEAKER_06Yes, sir.
SPEAKER_02Yes, sir, you do. It's just kind of a rough night through the air for Lamars. Uh three for twelve with an INT, just 37 yards through the air. And, you know, unfortunately, they're a team that lives off the ground game. Yeah. And you get a spread like this where they're forced to throw, it's a hard to come back. It's a tough deal.
SPEAKER_06So they break the huddle and it's going to be an I formation with Knapp, the deep back, one wide receiver each way. Dylan Knapp, left side, and they gobble him up for a gain of one. So if you're the dogs, that's exactly what you're looking for. A short minimal game on first down, call a timeout, make them earn it. Maybe you can get the ball back, but you don't have a whole lot of time to work or timeouts once you walk away from it.
SPEAKER_02You know, and you can understand the punt with uh, you know, fourth down and fourth down and nine deep in your own territory. I mean, you know, it's a chance you gotta take as a as the Bulldogs here. They just gotta they can't afford to give up a first down. A first down essentially ends the game.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, it's a killer. But let's be honest, this is a this is a football game where I thought coming, you we I think we see I thought we'd see some scoring, and we haven't seen much. I think it really speaks volume for both these teams' defenses, but both those teams off the defensive lines are so good and so tough. Running the football against these teams this year, there's not a lot of teams that are gonna do it against them.
SPEAKER_02I mean, and you knew that coming into the season. I mean, that's uh those first three games for for the Crusaders with uh with the physicality of last week with SBL and the physicality we see today. And you're gonna see easier next week. You're gonna see an exceptional group of skilled players next week in these Black Raiders. And I believe they're in uh they're in the Des Moines area tonight.
SPEAKER_06They got they got D1 kids up and down the line there that catch the hand of the football. Yeah, they are loaded. So Healand now on second and nine with 253 to go. Now Lamaris has one time. They only stop it one more time, and then the clock continues to roll for him. Milky out of the gun. Nobody in the backfield. They're gonna run quarterback keeper right side, and he's gonna be thrown for a loss. Nice play there by Drake Peters as he comes up and takes Milky for a one-yard loss. And that'll bring up third and ten as they stop the clock. Another timeout, and that's their final timeout. So if you drew it up, this is how you draw it up for Lamar's. You got two stops, he used two timeouts, you got them at third and ten, and now got to hold them here and then hope for the ball back, and then you gotta hope for a miracle from there.
SPEAKER_02One more shout out to our fourth quarter sponsors. They were they have been Central Bank, Meyer Brother Funeral Home, Cybercloak Tech LLC, Empirical Foods, Greenville Pharmacy, Brower Cliff University, Catholic Connection Scholarship, Dunes Family Dental for Kids, Mai Jeweler and Greg and Christy Yoakum. Big thanks as always to the great people back at the studio tonight. We've got uh Jack and Ann working back there, and uh big thanks, Jack Stevens, as well as always good work of Ann, Ann Reach.
SPEAKER_06And's a legend. Oh, yeah. Anne's a legend. Legend in these parts, I say.
SPEAKER_02We're not easy to keep on track. Ann does her very best. Big thanks to them for the fine work they do.
SPEAKER_06Somebody's got to drive this ship, partner. It sure ain't gonna be us. Ann does a terrific job back there.
SPEAKER_02More like an old 78 LTD out of control.
SPEAKER_06With very few with limited brakes, no shocks. Just kind of hopping up and down the road. Here you go. Third and ten.
SPEAKER_02Four drops of gas.
SPEAKER_06Amen. Just barely getting by. Milky under center this time. Handing that. Gonna play action it. Looking deep. Has a man over the middle. It's Wegbutt and he one hops it short. And that stops the clock.
SPEAKER_02Now the strategy, you know the strategy to punt that ball looks pretty good right now. Yes, it does. You're out of timeouts, but 242 to go left in the ballgame. You can get the ball near midfield.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, you only wasted about 15 seconds there.
SPEAKER_02So here you go. That's the 18th passing attempt tonight for the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_06So back is Herbold again, who's done a terrific job tonight of punting and flipping the field a little bit. And now back for the dogs, they'll stand at their own 45. Punt is away. It's a high spiral. They're gonna let it bounce for some reason at the 42. And Healen downs it right at the 40. So surprised they didn't field it there. To let more time just kind of tick off the clock. So Healand's defense can put a stop to this whole thing pretty quick right here. 232, fourth quarter, 17-7, Healing on your Security National Bank scoreboard. And the dogs have to find a miracle if they want to win this thing. But crazier things have happened, and we've seen it right here on this field.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely.
SPEAKER_06So sophomore quarterback Jordan Copperood. The sophomore 165 pounder has done a great job tonight for them, them dogs of keeping them close. And then he's gonna go up top now. What into double coverage, and the ball is thrown out of bounds in a way, and that's incomplete. That'll bring up second and ten.
SPEAKER_02Really a Sanchez an invoke play anymore as that back shoulder sideline route. Uh, you see it pretty much at every level of football, and they tried it there, and and Copper throws that really nicely, but uh that falls incomplete. Double coverage by the Crusaders, second and ten, two twenty-five to go in your ballgame.
SPEAKER_06The shotgun formation, two wide receivers each way from their own 40, 255 to go in the ballgame. Over the middle, looking gonna be picked off at the 40. Look out 50. It's Knapp 45, 40, and that's gonna be your ballgame. Knapp's gonna close it out for the Crusaders with a pick, and probably a pretty fitting thing. Yep. Knapp has done a terrific job down the stretch here in the fourth quarter of getting some big runs when they needed it. And Knapp seals the deal with an ASCII, and the Crusaders are gonna get their first win of the football season and move to one and one.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely. Nicely played there, and just a just a tough situation for the young quarterback. You gotta throw it. Yeah, you get you gotta throw it down there and take a chance. And uh again, that's a that's a strong Crusader back back four there, and uh a strong game for them tonight holding the uh Lamar's Bulldogs at just 37 yards through the air.
SPEAKER_06What victory formation for the Crusaders. And they're gonna take a timeout.
SPEAKER_02Stay tuned after the ballgame for our post-game show, and we promise we will get on the air this week with our post-game and get the get the comments from Coach Lafleur as uh we head into Labor Day weekend. I think with a with a Crusader W the way it looks here with just 2.14 to go, but uh few things to be done before then. Uh Bulldogs are out of timeouts here. Crusaders with just one timeout left. Ball spotted at the Lamar's 41-yard line, a big interception there by uh Dylan Knapp. Uh, once again, a great all-purpose night for Dylan. Big return to set up one of the touchdowns, uh, big INT there, and uh always, always a little bit of a workhorse with the ball in his hands.
SPEAKER_06Gonna be a lot of ice packs popping in the locker room after this bad boy tonight. It's been a it's been a physical downhill game all night with and hats off by all means. So Joaquin Hernandez, number 16 for the Bulldogs. That kid pretty much did everything there was tonight, and he was fantastic. Toad of the rock 23 times tonight on a hot, humid evening. It's a lot of carries in this weather and against this defense. Eye formation, hand off to Bergen, left side.
SPEAKER_02Nice job of covering the ball up there.
SPEAKER_06Great, great job of the sophomore to understand the situation. I'm not here to house this, I'm here to just run the clock out.
SPEAKER_02Well, he's had tough yards tonight, too. I mean he's had every call between the tackles, and uh his uh his numbers aren't real eye popping, but again, he's taken some hits and held on to the rock, and that's a big thing here. As the clock ticks down, a minute forty-eight to go here. Crusaders in no rush, eighteen seconds left, so they'll snap this thing roughly about a minute twenty-four to go, second and eight for the Crusaders again. They're inside. The Lamar's 40-yard line.
SPEAKER_06Victory formation here for Healen is Milky under center. He's surrounded there by Wegba and Bergen. They got the knee. And with 122 to go, they got to snap it a couple more times here, and it's going to be a ballgame.
SPEAKER_02This is one of those situations where you really like having an experienced center as well. Yes. Very few poor connections by way of uh center snaps. And uh that's a tribute to Max.
SPEAKER_06Two-way player that can flat out do it on both sides of the football.
SPEAKER_02We're under a minute to go here. 55 and clicking. They're gonna snap this ball just over 40 seconds to go, and then that's pretty much gonna seal the deal.
SPEAKER_06Milky right now, under center, with two snaps at it, one backs away. Just take a knee there, son. Yep, no need to do that, Max. Or Milky. He's old quarterback stood back there and danced around a little bit.
SPEAKER_02He wanted to get under that six 40-second play clock there.
SPEAKER_06And then finally took the knee, but the pressure was coming. And if you're if if you're the you're the head coach, you don't like that in one bit. That's not something you want to see your quarterback do. But that's a wrap. That will wrap it up with track and field after the game. It'll be zeros here in a moment. Both teams hit the uh the field to say congratulations and good luck the rest of the way. That'll do it. Healing wins it. 17-7 in their home, their home opener tonight, their first home game of the season, to move to one and one, and the dogs fall to Healing to go to one-and-one as well. When we come back, we'll have our halftime show. We'll talk with John McFleur, get his thoughts on this one, and put a pretty bow on this one as the boys from the ice cream capital of the world are gonna go home and eat some ice cream probably after this one. Put it on all the wounds. Put it on the joints. Put it on the joints because it it was a rough and physical one out there tonight, boy. And they'd love to see it. All right, healing wins at 17-7. We're back with our halftime show, or our post-game show right after this. You're listening to Crusader Football on 88.1 Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_06And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders. And welcome back to Memorial Field. Travis Morgan and Bob Geary here as the Healing Crusaders get it done in an absolute just knockdown, drag out, fight kind of game. 17-7. Healing wins by 10. The game was in doubt until late in the fourth quarter. You had two teams that were just not willing to back away. They got it on the ground, and nobody really wanted to go through the air, Bob. Just pound it out, grind it out, and let's see who can who's left standing. And at the end, Healan was left standing 17-7.
SPEAKER_02That was an important win for the Crusaders. You know, you you looked at this first three games and go, you know, we got to get one of those three at a minimum, and uh puts us in good position. Uh, next week it's a big task with the East Side Black Raiders as we got uh just two more games before we start district play. And and John made reference to that. I mean, it is a tough schedule. Every one of these games, they're gonna throw their stuff at you. And uh they Lamars did tonight uh kudos to Lamar's. Uh their defensive effort was outstanding. And uh boy that Hernandez, their running back, uh what a workhorse he was on a tough night that's hot, it's humid, and boy, he took a lot of hits and just kept on chugging.
SPEAKER_06Lamar's is gonna be a tough out this year for a lot of football teams. Uh the only downside with Lamar's right now, Bob, that I can see is they they can't really throw it very well, but boy, they can run it and they can play some defense.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, in this day and age, it's hard to be, you know, one-dimensional. Yeah. You know, and uh the but that they got they got the type of defense that's gonna keep you in ball games. And as long as their their rushing attack works, uh they're gonna they're gonna be all right. 17 to 7 is your final tonight's postgame is brought to you by Knights of Columbus agent Neil Pfeiffer, as well as Tim and Lisa Spadine. Our other postgame sponsors include Sue Bodyshop, Culligan, Sioux City Sprinklers, Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, Queen of Peace Trinity Heights, New Crib Inspection, and Sunnybrook Dental. Again, your Security National Bank final, 17 to 7 uh from life from Memorial Field here. Great crowd. Uh you know, game kept everybody in it. Uh it was good to see the Crusaders pull off the W. They moved to one and one on the season while Lamar's falls to one and one after winning their opener against CBAL.
SPEAKER_06I think the the the big difference tonight was that Healing def with that was that Healen defensive line uh late in the game. With it's it kind of seemed like Lamar started to make a move, and then ASOF and Mickey kind of started to get going a little bit near the end when they had to and and and put a stop to things, clamped it down a little bit, and when when that rushing attack of Lamar started to get going, and you thought maybe they're taking over the football game, to be honest with you, late there late in the fourth quarter, mid-fourth quarter, and then boy Mickey and ASOF made some plays, as did Finpeck, and and they got back on the track and and kind of stopped it. But just a a really weird game to call tonight, you know, like just not a lot of big plays, not a lot of excitement. It was just kind of a a punch-counter punch kind of thing, and where in the end, you know, it was it's like Lamar just kind of run out of time, you know, and and you look up the scoreboard and he went up by 10.
SPEAKER_02Well, and and statistically it it hold out holds out that it was a very close ball game. Uh unofficially, I've got Lamar's for 170 total yards, 133 on the ground. Of course, 123 of those came by way of Hernandez, just 37 yards through the air, uh, two interceptions for Coparut, as well as uh one fumble uh for the Crusaders unofficially, 198 yards. Uh Milky was 7 for 18 with a touchdown for 124 yards through the air, 33 rushes for 74 yards. So again, these are unofficial stats, but uh the stats pretty much uh tell the story of how close a ballgame this was.
SPEAKER_06It was, it was. Now we welcome in head coach of the Healing Crusaders, John McFleur. Coach, first thing I'm gonna say is can we give some kudos to Saron Bridges for the hold on the field goal? Uh what with that that field goal, it was 27 yards, and pretty much everything was going against you at that point of the snap where the the the snap was not very good, the hole was amazing, the angle was horrible, and the kick was amazing to get you that 10-point lead on a late special teams play. Kind of kind of indicative of the game. It really was. It really was.
SPEAKER_04Um really, really ugly, but somehow managed to get it done. Yep, find a way. And I guess, you know, um we'll be happy to get the win. Yep. And um and that's about all I can say about that. Yeah, we uh we we're so far from being where we need to be, and and uh that's on me, and I gotta get them where they need to be.
SPEAKER_06It seems that this this team though, it really the defensive line that you got you know, Mickey and ASOF tonight were very good. They were they were very good in in points, but it at at some point it just seemed like Rodriguez or uh Hernandez had an unbelievable game at running back for them, had momentum, and then penalties kind of killed them, and killed both of you guys really. Penalties were a big were a big part of it tonight. It was a it was a tough night out there.
SPEAKER_04We we it's uh like again once again, I gotta I gotta coach these guys better. We can't we can't continue to beat ourselves that way. And uh and it was a tough environment. Um, you know, it was hot, it wasn't all that. Um but and it was hot and humored for them as well. So we can't, you know, uh we've got a we got worn down, we've got to get in better shape. Um we didn't tackle well that second half, and I think we still felt sorry for ourselves a little bit. That'll change. And uh we'll make sure that we're not gonna feel sorry for ourselves and we'll be in better shape. Um and because we have to be, because we have an extreme extremely really good opponent to take on this coming week. Yeah. So and uh everybody knows who it is, and um, you know, we'll we'll uh we gotta get our guys healthy and and ready to go.
SPEAKER_06Good news is good teams find ways to win even when they're not playing well. You found a way to win tonight. That's gotta feel good. You gotta win.
SPEAKER_04It feels good to win, absolutely. I don't know if we're a good team yet, um, but we found a way to win. You know, uh we could be a bad team that found a way to win. Sometimes that happens too. I don't think we are. I think we got kids that uh that can do some good things, but we we just gotta we gotta we gotta see more improvement.
SPEAKER_06What did you like tonight? Did you like anything tonight? Uh I mean there was uh I mean you did a couple things well, I'm sure.
SPEAKER_04Uh the kid made a field goal and uh um I guess that's pretty good. And um I don't know, no one died. So um I guess uh the interception that was a nice interception. It was a good pick that that nap. That was a nice way to seal the game. Yep. But you know, just even simple things like you know, I gotta burn a timeout there late because we call a kneel-down formation, but we don't have time to kneel down, we've got to run a play, you know, and and and so and the kids took it upon themselves thinking they're gonna kneel down. So we gotta communication's gotta be better, and it and it truly starts with me. Yeah, I gotta get my my coaches on on the same page as what we where we need to be to translate that to the kids. Yeah, so I gotta coach better, and uh I I promise you that I promise people out there that I most certainly will.
SPEAKER_06I think Lamar's is better than what we thought, maybe thought they were. I mean, you you you knew they were pretty good. Uh I think Lamar's is gonna give people a lot of fits this year, though. I think they're good football team.
SPEAKER_04Their uh their defense is really good. Yes, they're honestly. Their front four is very good. They got some they got some size and and they can move a little bit. Um you know, I think offensively they've got some piece as well, and and they're better, they were better this week than they were last week, too. Yeah. So um, yeah, they're they're gonna they're gonna do a good job. Coach Figel's uh has a really good team over there, and they always are really well coached. So um, you know, we're gonna put that one in the pass, we're gonna watch in the morning, correct our mistakes, and move forward to uh look forward to next week over at East.
SPEAKER_06Coach, appreciate the time. Always a pleasure talking to you. And uh, hey, one and one, got that one out of the way, and now it's East Week. Here we go. Can't wait. Can't wait. Thanks, guys. Appreciate the coverage as always. John LaFleur, head coach of the Healing Crusaders with the first one in the season. And like you said, they kicked a field goal and nobody died. So I mean that's that's that's a great thing. That's a that's a that's a but inspiring words from a man who knows how to coach. Inspiring words from a man who knows how to coach. You got I tell you, you know, what I love about John LeFleur is he will never come back here and say that his team played great when they did not play great. He will never and he will never put the blame on the kids. He will always point the finger at himself no matter what. Some kid could could have a late hit with five seconds after the whistle blows, and he blame it on himself for not teaching the kid not to do it with five seconds with the with the with the with the with after the whistles blow. That's just the John LeFleur way. And he's always gonna take the blame for it. But I I I gotta tell you that I love always talking to him after the game's over because you're never gonna get you're never gonna get smoke. It's it's gonna be the dead honest truth. And tonight you got it, and you you heard Coach. He they got a lot to fix, Bob Geary. They and they better fix it in a hurry because next week East is not gonna let up. East is gonna have their foot on the gas the entire time and they're gonna be waiting for him.
SPEAKER_02Well, and you see, you know, Travis, you see a lot of pieces that I think are gonna fall into play. Yeah. And it's sometimes I think we're a little too hard on ourselves. We're quick to forget that uh how what we lost from last year, and really we've had uh kind of reinvent the whole offensive system. You know, it was I don't want to say it was easy last year, but you turn and hand the ball to Casey Thomas and then keep it with Conley once in a while, and and that was a system that worked awfully well. But uh, you know, this year neither though neither one of those guys are out there, and uh a a lot of new pieces, and uh they don't always just fall together just like that. It it takes a while, and uh, I think you're seeing that. I know the as coaches you're always frustrated when the when the the things you like to do aren't working.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh I think the big thing is somehow we've got to find a way to get that running game going.
SPEAKER_06I'll tell you this though, but what maybe we're not looking at and and maybe rightfully so or not rightfully so, but I think people gotta remember, too, tonight there was no JJ Hope. Again, they've almost played two full games without JJ Hope. JJ Hope, like we said, is one of the best players in the state. And to not have him in your lineup hurts uh in a major way. They also lost High Tree right away tonight as well. And he was limping and didn't return to the football game after two possessions. He was your leading rusher going into tonight as well. So, you know, they've had some big injuries here early. You like to see both those guys healthy when they go play East next week, and and believe me, they're gonna need JJ Hope next week when they play Seuss to the East because they need that speed to counteract East speed because they East has got it in spades, partner.
SPEAKER_02Well, it's one of those things where that one little piece puts all the other pieces out of this joint, and uh, you know, especially defensively with the skill skill level we'll see next week, uh it's gonna have to be a tremendous defensive effort by the Crusaders uh to hang around that ball game. And you know John will get him ready to go. And the I I don't think you have to do much uh bulletin board talking in this game and uh from either side, uh both teams will be fired up. Again, our postgames brought to you by Knights of Columbus Agent Neil Fife and Tim and Lisa Swedeen. Your final here from Memorial Field was uh 17-7. The good guys with the win as the Crusaders move to one and one, the Lamar's Bulldogs fall to one and one. Our other postgame sponsors, Sue Bodyshop, Culligan, Sioux City Sprinkler, Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, Queen of Peace, Trinity Heights, New Crib Inspection, and Sunnybrook Dental. And uh again, Security National Bank Scoreboard, Crusaders with the win.
SPEAKER_0617 7, you heard it here. Crusaders get the W tonight. Next week, it's East. It's going to be a great one out at Olsen Stadium. Thank you for joining us tonight. On behalf of Bob Geary, everybody back in the studio. I'm Travis Morgan. Have a great Labor Day weekend, everybody. We'll see you next Friday night, right back here on 88.1 Catholic Radio for East and Healing. Thanks for joining us.
