SPEAKER_05And welcome to Corber Field, high above the campus of Northwestern College here in Orange City. As tonight, the Bishop Healing Crusaders have traveled to Orange City to take on the MLC Floyd Valley Dutchman in a battle of two and three squads that are looking to stay relevant in 3A District 1. The Crusaders are looking to bounce back from a last second 32-30 loss to an undefeated Sioux Center team this past Friday. Well, the Dutch are looking to rebound from a 38-21 loss at the hands of Algona in the opening week of 3A District 1 football. The Dutch, much like the Crusaders, have built their offense around a strong arm of a senior quarterback, in this case Trysen Groendike, who has engineered the most productive passing offense in District 1 at over 190 yards per game. Veteran coach Grant Hegstad has the Dutch in somewhat of a rebuilding year with a full squad of underclassmen on the field. Very much a case where those seniors are mixed in with underclassmen for the Dutch. The Crusaders come into the game looking to push their record back to 500, find themselves in really what is seems to be a must-win situation as they find themselves battling for what appears to be the number two spot in District 1, with four regular season games remaining. Senior quarterback Eli Milkey once again spearheads an offense that has had to rely heavily on his passing game while trying to get some more consistency in their running attack. A talented receiving core led by Grant Wickham, Prince Wegba, Jesse Moss, Jake Knapp, and Asir Matumble will need to be productive tonight while at the same time look for Coach Lafleur and his staff to try and establish the run, to try and balance out that offense. When they do go to the run, look to uh look for the Crusaders who rely heavily on junior Dylan Knapp and the legs of quarterback Eli Milkey. They are the key cogs in the Healing running attack. The Crusader defense will have the difficult task once again of containing one of the best passing games in the district and keeping the talented Dutch offense on the sidelines. Alongside the voice of Healing Baseball, Mike Skaggs, Mike's filling in tonight for Travis Morgan and Grace Top back at the KTH studio. I'm Bob Gary, and once again we're honored to bring you Crusader football here to our listening audience wherever you may be. You're listening to the Dave Peppin' Real Estate pregame show. We want to also thank our other pregame sponsors. They include Bob Rose Point After and North End Zone, Heinmann Family Dentistry, Cruise Financial Group, Missouri Valley Land and Cattle, Rooley Family Chiropractic, Staber Meats, Shram Electric, and Mr. Matt Lawler with FM Wealth Management. KFHC, KOA Radio, and Bishop Healan. Again, want to thank all our loyal listeners for taking time out of your Friday evening to join us for your for our coverage of Bishop Healen Football. And of course, we want to send out a heartfelt thanks to all our fine sponsors who underwrite Bishop Healan Athletics here on Catholic Radio. Without your support, our radio coverage of Healing Athletics would not be possible. We want to have a shout out as well to Mitch Albers, the fine MLC Floyd Valley A. D. for allowing us the privilege of calling the game tonight. It's a beautiful setup here at uh Corver Field, and uh we're excited to bring you what should be a very good football game. Well, Michael, welcome aboard. First of all, it's good to have you aboard, and uh we should have a good one tonight.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, we should. I'm uh I'm very jealous. Baseball did not have this kind of accommodations everywhere we went. We were down along first and third base lines and carrying our own tables and everything else, so this is really nice. But uh looking forward to tonight's game and it it should be a good one. Two good passing attacks, and like you said, Healing really needs to get that running game going. They've got speed in the backfield. If they can uh get some holes opened up for Dylan, uh he's showing on the baseball field his speed and and he can do some damage if he can get outside.
SPEAKER_05Well, we've really seen Mike uh that that passing offense is really starting to click for the Crusaders. Um and what a bevy of nice receivers. Uh a lot of speed. Uh when you look at Matumbo, you got good size at six foot five, just just a lot of weapons for Eli, and it seems like he's kind of getting on page with with most of that receiving core and probably look uh tonight at a team that uh sees the pass a lot in practice, that being the MLC uh Floyd Valley Dutch, but by the same token, uh they may not see the type of speed that we offer, especially in uh Wickcombe and Wegbaugh Yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER_08And I I remember going back to the first game of the season, just the progression of this passing attack. First game of the season. I mean, he guys were right there and they just weren't able to connect, and as time goes on, they've uh they've been able to really really gel and and do a great job. I'm really excited to uh see the improvement from last week into this week going up against uh MOC Floyd Valley and and two good passing attacks.
SPEAKER_05We could be here for a while. Absolutely. Uh you hope some of those completions are made to keep that clock running, but uh it it should be a good one. I and I think you know, in talking to to Coach Lafleur last week, they were disappointed in the fact that their defense just could not get off the field against a very talented Sioux Center team. And I would imagine that's been a real strong point of emphasis. And in many ways, their strengths match up very good to our defensive strengths with the defensive backfield that we have. So it should be an interesting interesting one tonight. And uh, you know, look for the look for the line of scrimmage again to be the big factor in turning the turning the tide here, and I think uh I think the Crusaders are gonna have a little bit of advantage there. But just uh as you take a quick glance at statistics and things, the record's the same at two and three, uh mainly a passing attack. There's it this is a lot of similarities between these two teams. I I just think the schedule that the Crusaders have played really uh really bids well for them uh being successful tonight.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, absolutely. You know, they've they've gone up against these two is obviously really good and uh they just uh you know they competed well with them. I w I wasn't there, but I I heard about it and uh you know they can't can't stay down about that. They've they've done a good job bouncing back from that and uh had a really good game against North a couple weeks ago and you know last week they were right there. They they had every opportunity to to pull that win out and and probably surprise a lot of people and uh just weren't able to do it. Uh Sioux Center was able to take the ball down the field and get that field goal at the end to win it.
SPEAKER_05So as you as you look ahead though, really the the playoff pitcher looks like this. The the teams that get into the playoffs really are based on your district performance, not so much uh in fact not at all of the first four games of the year and uh putting the Crusaders already at 0 and 1 uh well it's not entirely a must-win. It it appears that way that uh you know it's a district that in all likelihood will get to two teams, possibly three, into the into the playoffs, but boy, with four games to go after tonight, uh there there is there's a a lot of work that needs to be done, and it's it's truly one one game at a time for the Crusaders if they want to stay in the hunt to get a playoff position later in the year.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, none of the none of the teams below Sioux Center can really afford to lose another game. And uh Healens, like you said, they've got to go one game at a time, focus on this one, get this win, and then get ready for next week, and and the same thing, and just get through the season and and then get ready for the playoffs.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, once again I'm Bob Geary, joined by Mike Skaggs tonight. We're lit we're you're listening to the Dave Peppen Real Estate Show here on Catholic Radio, our other pregame sponsors along with Dave Peppin include Bob Rose Point After and North End Zone, Heinmann Family Dentistry, Cruise Financial Group, Missouri Valley Landing Cattle, Ruley Family Chiropractic, Staber Meats, Shram Electric, and Matt Lawler with FM Wealth Management. When we come back tonight, we'll have tonight's starting lineups and football action from here in Orange City as the Crusaders once again have made the trip to Orange City to take on the MLC Floyd Valley Dutch. We'll be right back.

SPEAKER_00You're listening to FM 88.1, KFHC, Ponka Sioux City, and KOIA, Storm Lake, Siouxland Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_02And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_05And welcome back, everyone. It's Crusader Football Tonight, once again on Catholic Radio as the Crusaders take on the MOC Floyd Valley Dutch from here in Orange City. Again, our pregame, as always, is brought to you by our friends Dave Peppen at Dave Peppin Real Estate, as long with Bob Rose Point After and North End Zone, Heinmann Family, Dennistreek, Cruise Financial Group, Missouri Valley Land and Cattle, Rooley Family Chiropractic, Staber Meets, Shram Electric, and Matt Lawler with FM Wealth Management. Both teams, Mike, are back on the field here. We're waiting for the refs to call the captains out. And here, real quickly, are your starting lineups, and we'll go with both teams starting offense. First of all, for the MLC Floyd Valley Dutch, they stand at 2-3 on the season 0-1 in District 1 play. Their quarterback is number 4, Tryson Groendike. He's a good one, 175, 170-pound senior. The halfback is Lane Potterbaum, 155-pound junior. The fullback, the man that'll get the majority of the carries tonight, is number 12, Cargan Miller, 170-pound junior. The wide receiving core looks like this. It's number six, Hudson Klein Hesling, 170-pound junior. Albert Van Z, 185-pound senior, and uh Tucker Don, excuse me, Tucker Dug Dugan, 195-pound junior. And Tucker has uh been the main target for Mr. Groendike throughout the course of the year. Up front, they've got Molter, Ceres, Voss, Lancaster, and Roos, uh a little bit undersized in that line. They've got three players that are 200 pounds or less, and so that might be an advantage for the Crusaders. The Crusader offense, again, they stand 2-3 on the season in 0-1 in District 1 will be highlighted by Elijah Milkey, the 225-pound senior quarterback. Dylan Knapp, and Brody Schram should man the backfield. Asir Matumbo will man the tight end spot for the Crusaders. Grant Wickham and Prince Wagba will be two of your main targets as wide receivers. Up front, it's Max Asoff, Aldo Gonzalez, Mark Max II, uh Keaton Schweitzer, and Nolan Mickey. Handling the kicking chores for the Crusaders is Reed Herbolt, and for the Dutch it'll be William Evans as we get ready to go. It looks like uh the Crusaders are gonna get the first crack on offense tonight as the Dutch will be kicking off. Should be a good one tonight, uh Michael.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, it should. Uh Crusaders are going. I always wanted to say this left to right on your radio dial.
SPEAKER_05Can't say that on the baseball diamond, can you?
SPEAKER_08No, you can't. Uh you can just say, Man, I wish we had air conditioning.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, just uh I tell you what, a beautiful facility here at Corver Field. Again, it is the home of Northwestern College, so it's uh it's a very much a college setup, but uh we've got several radios here tonight, uh the coaching staffs, all of their individual boxes. It should be a good one. So we're ready to go. Our first quarter kickoff is brought to you through the generosity of our first quarter sponsors, Mills Shalmer, Pittson Associates, and Lifeforms. As we get ready to rock and roll here, putting uh foot to ball will be William Evans, the senior, and back deep for the Crusaders, as they are throughout the course of the year. It looks like it's gonna be uh JJ Hope is the primary guy as they're gonna squib kick it near the out-of-bounds line, and this is gonna go out of bounds. So we're off the bat here. The Crusaders are gonna have good field position as the kick goes out of bounds. Our other first quarter sponsors tonight include Wall of Fame, Graphics Inc., Tri-State Dental Care, Sneaky's Chicken, People's Bank, North Risk Partners, McClintock Insurance, Christy Smith Funeral Homes, and Drilling Morningside Pharmacy. So the Crusaders are going to take over at their own 35-yard line by way of the penalty as they take the field here. Beautiful evening here in Orange City.
SPEAKER_08Never really understood that. Trying to squib kick it and get it over the sideline. You're better off just getting it up in the air and taking your chances.
SPEAKER_05A lot of respect for JJ Hope back there. As the Crusaders break huddle now, they'll be in a shotgun formation, backs to either side of Milky. Two receivers to the left, one to the right. As Milky's going to maneuver Matumbo back into the tight end spot. He sends uh JJ in motion. They're going to kick it out to JJ. A little one-man screen there. He breaks a tackle or two. He's going to get 11 yards on a first down. Really nice productive play on first down for the Crusaders as JJ Hope gets the 11-yard pass from Milky.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, that's a play that's become very popular in college. Uh that first uh swing pass to the outside and see what you can do with it. Just get it to your receiver and let him do the work.
SPEAKER_05Ball's on the right hash mark now, spotted at the 46, first and 10. Fresh set of downs for the Crusaders. They're going to go empty backfield, shotgun formation for Milky. Three receivers to the left, one to the right. He's going to drop back, quick two-step drop. Now he's looking deep. He's got a receiver buzzing down there, but it's going to be intercepted there as he overthrew his intended receiver, and the ball's going to be picked off by the Dutch at the Crusade at the Dutch 11-yard line. So deep nice defensive play there. And I believe making that play for the Dutch.
SPEAKER_08Uh Hudson Klein Hessling made that interception there.
SPEAKER_05And so the Crusaders try to try and go deep early on here, and uh first turnover of the game belongs to the Crusaders with that INT. So the Dutch is going to take over from deep in their own territory, ball spotted just inside the 12-yard line here as uh Crusaders uh look sharp on that first play, but uh throw the INT on play number two. Again, the quarterback for the Dutch tonight is uh Thryson Groendike. He's uh experienced quarterback that's uh really done a lot of nice things through the air here as they break huddle, shotgun formation, wide receivers to either side, one solo back. Groendike, a couple steps back, throws a little crossing route, it's completed uh to number 10, and that's uh Grantly Samuels. I think he goes by junior Samuels, and he's gonna get five yards on that opening completion. So both quarterbacks are successful in their first toss of the night, second down now and six for the Dutch from the Crusaders 16 yard line.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, safe play there by MOC. Just uh get what you can get out of that. Uh tight end did a nice job coming across the middle and and making that catch.
SPEAKER_05Again, second down and six for the Dutch, ball spot at the 16-yard line, wide receivers to either side, slot back right, shotgun formation. Growendike's gonna go up the middle, and he's gonna be corralled right away. Nicely defended by the Crusader defense. That was led by uh number nine, Aaron Liszt. Made the first contact there. We'll give him one yards out of generosity there, but uh it's gonna bring that third down and five now for the Dutch. Ball spotted at the Dutch 17-yard line. Again, they're moving right to left. Uh purple uniforms with white numbers. They pop really nicely. Crusaders in the road whites, gold lids and gold pants. Here's uh here's kind of what we looked at, uh, what uh Coach LaFleur hoped to happen last week. Let's get off the field here on a three and out. Uh, we were not able to do that last week. Let's see if we can do it here against the Dutch. Third down to five, shotgun formation, double receivers both sides, pressured out of the pocket. Grondike's gonna throw it across the middle, and the receiver dropped it. A beautiful touch pass right into the middle of the field to Hudson Klein Heslink, and uh he couldn't handle it, so it's a punting situation for the Dutch.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, too bad he couldn't have dropped that interception that he had earlier.
SPEAKER_05Really, and you know, rolling to his right, he dropped that thing right into a lot of traffic. So here's an opportunity with uh the always dangerous JJ Hope back deep. Handling the kicking chores for the Dutch is gonna be uh Goendyke standing near midfield is Hope. A lot of pressure on the kick. He gets it off. Hope's got a lot of room, fields it at the 46, cuts up the middle, breaks a couple tackles, and it's gonna be brought down at the Dutch 37-yard line. So great field position here for the Crusaders as they start series number two. Once again, tonight's second quarter is brought to you by our friends at Mills, Shelmer, Pittson Associates, along with Lightforms, Wall of Fame Graphics Inc., Tri-State Dental Care, Sneaky's Chicken, People's Bank, Northrisk Partners, McClintock Insurance, Christy Smith, Funeral Homes, and Drilling, Morningside Pharmacy on your Security National Bank. Early on here, it's 0-0 here as 946 remains here in quarter, number one.
SPEAKER_08Good start by the healing defense on that.
SPEAKER_05There's Knapp busting it off the left side. He's going to get 8-9, close to first down yardage there. As he went off that left side of the line there, just a simple uh simple uh draw play there to Knapp. Good good production there through the ground on the first carry of the game for uh Knapp. And uh boy, I tell you what, he's developed into a nice running back for the Crusaders that moves the bot moves a spot to the 28-yard line of the Dutch. Second down now and one ball spotted left hash mark, white side of the field to the right. Prince Wagbaugh is gonna go wide right to the left side is Wickcomb eye formation for the Crusaders. As uh they're gonna fake it, drop back. Milkey is pressured and is gonna get uh gonna get uh knocked down for first down yardage, but I believe he may lost the ball in second turnover of the game as Milky got first down yardage, but uh gave up the ball, and already the senior quarterback with a couple of turnovers here early on. Four plays for the Crusaders early on, two turnovers. Not what the doctor ordered here on the road at uh Orange City. 858 to go here, 0-0 as the uh Dutch are gonna take over from their own 27-yard line.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, as he was scrambling there, he was kind of holding that out there like a loaf of bread, and whenever he got into the pile there and got hit, you could see the ball pop out. And uh defense is probably gonna have a conversation with him at some point about we need some sustained drives, keep us off the field.
SPEAKER_05First and ten now, high formation for the Dutch. Wide receivers to either side, under center, goes Groendike, he drops back, he's pressured, tries to throw it away, and uh sat in the pocket. That might be a consideration for a grounding there.
SPEAKER_08There wasn't a receiver anywhere close. Coach LaFleur's asking.
SPEAKER_05He did manage to get it past the line of scrimmage, but he did not get out of the pocket, and uh looks like they're just gonna call the basic incompletion, so early on here.
SPEAKER_08Good pressure by the defense there though.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely, and I think that's gonna be a key tonight. Uh there should be an advantage up front with that Crusader defensive line versus the uh line for MOC Floyd Valley. So they break out a second down and ten now. Ball spotted at their own twenty seven yard line, shotgun formation, Groendike with one uh back to his left. Now they go motion left to right. They're gonna give a sweep and uh penalty flags. R over the field. Looks like it's going to be a false start for the Dutch. It's going to push him back and make it a second down and 15. 850 to go here in quarter number one. Still goose eggs on the scoreboard on your Security National Bank. Again, we're bringing you covered from here at Corver Field and MOC. Orange City as the uh Dutch trying to capitalize on uh being the beneficiaries of two tournaments very early on here in the first three and a half minutes of the game.
SPEAKER_08I like that. They use a relay guy to bring the play in. He goes out there and gives it to them and then runs off the field.
SPEAKER_05Four receivers to the left on the shotgun. They're gonna run a little uh quick screen out, and uh nicely defended by the Crusaders. In fact, they'll get maybe one yard uh out of that uh situation there. The screen went out to uh Tucker Dugan and uh Tucker's able to get again a couple of yards on it and will bring it up second down or believe it's third down now.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, third and fourth. Yeah, Whitcomb did a good job getting out there and and holding his guy up to block and then fight that off and get in to make the tackle.
SPEAKER_05Kind of seeing early on, Mike, that the speed advantage I think it belongs to the Crusaders around the perimeter, and uh I also think there's a pretty good advantage inside. So if the Crusaders can hold on to the ball, I think good things are gonna happen tonight. Third down now and 13. Grondike drops back, he's gonna throw it deep. It's gonna be picked off. And uh bringing it back up the field off the pick to the 27-yard line, back to the original line of scrimmage. Great, great job there by the Crusaders. That's Dylan Knapp with the INT and sets up the Crusaders in great position here as our third turnover of the game. Two by the Crusaders, one by the Dutch here, with still 749 to go in the first quarter. Uh, I think that's going to be a point of emphasis on both teams. He was not even close on that throw.
SPEAKER_08No, he wasn't. Dylan was the only uh open receiver back there about the 50-yard line, and he was able to haul that in and go down. Yeah, we've had four drives, three turnovers, and one punt.
SPEAKER_05Here we go now. Crusaders first and ten from their own 27-yard line. Eye formation, two receivers to the right. It's Wickham and Wagbaugh to the right. They're gonna spin, handoff to Knapp. Knapp goes up the middle, nice little run there. He's gonna give five on that carry.
SPEAKER_08They're doing a really good job opening holes for Dillon tonight.
SPEAKER_05And what I like about Dillon is those lateral jumps he does in the middle of his run. He does a great job after initial contact. Nice run on first down, well spotted at the Dutch 22-yard line now. Second down and five for the Crusaders. Let's keep it uh let's keep it simple and push it in the end zone here, midway through quarter number one. Matumbo in motion now sets up tight end right, wide receivers both sides, eye formation. There's knapp again going off the right side. He's gonna get yardage up near the first down, and it looks like they're probably gonna give him first down yardage there. So three runs already, 19 yards for Mr. Knapp. It moves the s moves the sticks and gives the Crusaders a first down inside the red zone at the Dutch 18-yard line.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, if you can average six yards a carry, then uh you're gonna move the ball and hopefully we can continue to hang on to it and push this thing into the end zone and get a lead.
SPEAKER_05Working as the fullback for the Crusaders is number 15, Jesse Moss. Of course, Knapps lining up as the I back, eye formation, two receivers to the left, tight end right, under center for Milky as he calls the starting count. He's gonna spin, ball fake, looking for a receiver, throws it upfield, completes it near the goal line. Are they gonna give him the touchdown or not? There, he reached it across. It was Wickham with the ball, and we're gonna give him 16 yards. It's gonna be spotted at the one-yard line. Beautiful throw there by Milkey rolling to his left, spotted Wickham in the deep corner. We're gonna move that back to the two-yard line. So first and goal for the Crusaders, 15 yards on that completion. Two completions now for Mr. Milkey, 26 yards on the night, and gives the Crusaders a first and goal from the two.
SPEAKER_08He could not have placed that ball any better.
SPEAKER_05Knapp to solo back. He's gonna take it off the right side, goes off one tackle, and great job by the interior part of the MOC defense there. No gain for Knapp for a while. Looked kind of promising off that right tackle, just couldn't get it done. Uh Crusaders tried to overload that with their uh bigger guys and uh didn't work as the uh MLC Floyd Valley Dutch Rise of the Occajan. Second down and goal now from the two. 535 to go here in quarter number one. Crusaders on the move inside the red zone, second and goal from the two-yard line.
SPEAKER_08I think I'd fake that into a bootleg.
SPEAKER_05I mean he and they're gonna go Milky with the sneak, and they're gonna give him touchdown or yardage there. Again, that's the nice thing about having a six foot four inch uh quarterback and get that big reach in there, and uh nicely done. Nice drive there. They capitalize on the turnover to get the two-yard touchdown by Milky. And uh that puts the Crusaders up early here, six-nothing with five sixteen to go, is on to handle the extra point duties as he's done so well all year is Herbold. Crusaders shift into their formation. Handling the uh holding duties tonight will be uh bridges, max two with the snap. Snap is good, holds good, kick is up, and it's right down the middle. So the Crusaders move up 7-0 here, 5-16 here from Corver Field. We're gonna take it back to the studio for a 30-second timeout. When we come back, we'll have the Crusaders kicking off. It is Crusader Football here on Catholic Radio, the home of Crusader Athletics. We'll be right back.

SPEAKER_02And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_05And welcome back, everyone. Crusaders with a five-play, 27-yard drive, fine pay dirt with 516 to go here in the first quarter. Milky with a two-yard touchdown run, Herbold added the extra point, 7-0 Crusaders. As the Crusaders get ready to kick it deep for the Dutch, back deep will be number two, Elber Van Z, as well as number six, Hudson Klein Heslink. They are dangerous receivers. They'll handle all the returning chores tonight for the Dutch. As the Herbolt gets ready to put uh foot to ball here as he's gonna kick it from the home 40-yard line, gets a good leg into it. It's gonna be fielded near the three-yard line by Klein Heslink. He's gonna go all the way across the field, makes a good cut, and gets the ball all the way up to the 31. Good tackle there for the Crusaders by number 44. That of course is uh Finnegan Peck. Finnegan Peck as well as uh Bergen on that tackle. So good field position here. In fact, the best field position the Dutch have had tonight as they'll start from their own 32-yard line. Once again, on your Security National Bank scoreboard, it is the Crusaders seven and the Dutch nothing.
SPEAKER_08One thing I will say is nice. There's not a three-minute and twenty-five-second break uh between every drive.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, those TV timeouts just kill you. Tight formation, wide receiver to the left, they spin, they handoff, they're gonna get two yards on the carry there for the Dutch, uh handling the the carry chores there, I believe was um Kegan Miller for the Dutch. It's gonna bring up second down now and eight. Miller with his first carry of the night, pushes the ball up to the 35-yard line. Ball spotted on the left hash mark. Wide side of the field to the right as the uh Dutch break huddle. Looks like they're gonna settle with Growendike back. Miller to his right in the backfield, shotgun formation, twin receivers, tight right, one wide to the left, to the left is Van Z. Now they're gonna move things around. Calls his count, gives a little reverse here. Nicely defended by uh the Crusaders, but he breaks a couple of nice tackles. It was a really good run. He turned about a four-yard loss into uh two-yard gain with the carry there was uh Hudson Klein Heslink. Again, we'll give him two and brings up a third down now and five.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, Aesoff had him in the backfield, just wasn't able to hang on and get him down.
SPEAKER_05Max Asoff might be one of the toughest linemen in the state of three in the 3A um division of the state to block. He seems like he spends a lot of time uh basking in the glory of the other team's backfield. Third down now and five. Crusaders trying to get off the field, 341 to go here in the first quarter. They lead 7-0. Two receivers wide right, one to the left. Shotgun formation. There's a little screenplay set up, but it's defended beautifully by the Crusaders. Hanging there was, I believe, Brody Schram, and he sniffed that thing out just like he should. Loss of two on that completion, and it's gonna bring another punting situation for the MOC Dutch. Boy, you can see that thing setting up, but uh Bro Brody just hanged uh hung in there and took him down, lost to two fourth down now and nine for the Dutch. Going back to punt will be Groendike again, deep for the Crusaders will be uh JJ. Ball's up in the air, really nice kick. And it's gonna bounce and go deep into the Crusader territory near the Crusader 12-yard line. What a punt there for the Dutch and uh gets uh flips a flips a field there. So the quarterback uh Trice and Groendike with a beautiful kick there. Crusaders are gonna start off deep in their own possession, uh in their own uh part of the field at their own 12-yard line. 246 to go here in quarter number one. Moving along pretty quickly here, Michael. That's good.
SPEAKER_08It is a little bit faster than we thought it was. It was gonna be with all the passing, but turnovers help speed things up.
SPEAKER_05First quarter tonight again brought to you by our signature quarter one sponsors. They are Mills, Shell Homer, Pitts and Associates, as well as Lightforms. Crusaders break huddle now, wide receivers to each side, eye formation. Milky will go under center. Knapp sits in the eye there. He's gonna go off the right side, gonna get a couple of hard-earned yards there, maybe up to the 15. Looks like they're gonna spot the 14. We're gonna give uh two yards on that carry, second down now and eight for the Crusaders. That's the uh fifth carry of the night for Knapp. He's got uh five carries, twenty-one yards unofficially, second down and eight for the Crusaders, moving left to right on your radio dial here as darkness begins to descend on Corver Field on this beautiful fall day. It was great to see the sunlight today.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, it was very nice to see the sunlight. I'm sure a lot of people were wondering what that was in the sky.
SPEAKER_05Milky shotgun formation. He's got an aft to his side, two receivers wide each way. He's gonna throw a quick out route, and that's off the mark. Uh tender receiver there was uh JJ Hope, but uh falls incomplete, so it's gonna bring down a third down now and eight for the Crusaders from deep in their own territory at their own 12 or at their own 15 yard line.
SPEAKER_08You know, back to Dillon, he's not the biggest kid in the world, but he's strong and he runs hard. Uh that even though that last run of his was only two yards, he fought really hard to get those two yards.
SPEAKER_05Big first down, uh big uh third down situation here with 159 to go, just under two minutes to go here in the quarter first quarter on your Security National Bank scoreboard. Crusaders facing a third and eight from their own uh we'll call it 14 yard line. Two receivers wide right. Now they're gonna low overload to the right side, and there's gonna be penalty flags there. It looks like it's gonna be a movement infraction on the Crusaders. Uh except uh no, it's not gonna be the case. There's gonna be a timeout on the field, so waiting for the referees to see who they who called that timeout.
SPEAKER_08Looked like we did.
SPEAKER_05And we're gonna keep it right here. Once again, uh gives us a chance to thank our first quarter sponsors, and tonight they are Mill Shelmer, Pitts and Associates, and Lightforms, along with Wall of Fame Graphics Inc., Tri-State Dental Care, Sneaky's Chicken, People's Bank, North Risk Partners with Clinton Talk Insurance, Chrissy Smith Funeral Homes, and Drilling Morningside Pharmacy again on Security National Bank scoreboard with 158 to go here. In the uh first quarter, it is the Crusaders 7. And the Dutch nothing. Crusaders again facing a third down or third down and eight from their own 14-yard line coming out of the timeout there. So obviously that coaching said I saw something they didn't like with that play call and decided it was worth the timeout to uh get things corrected.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, there's a big play here for our offense and their defense.
SPEAKER_05Spread formation, wide receivers, two to each side, shotgun formation, and there's gonna be a uh movement infraction there is I don't know if the center didn't get the call there, but a lot of movement. It's gonna push the Crusaders five yards back. So now it's a third down and uh we'll call it 13 for the Crusaders inside their own ten yard line. Again, uh two receivers wide each way. Shotgun formation. Milky gets a snap, drops back, has time, looks deep, has an open receiver, and great catch at the thirty yard line by Wickham, but they're gonna say he was out of bounds. Well, that might have been one you'd call back to New York and challenge, but uh high school ball, you don't have that luxury. So an incomplete pass, really nicely delivered there, and Wickham made a great effort to try and catch it right at the 30, but uh he goes for not as it's out of bounds, and now the Crusaders are gonna have to punt. Herbolt stands three yards deep in his own end zone, so it looks like the Dutch are probably gonna get pretty good uh field position here off this punt.
SPEAKER_08They had to have think thought it that he was bobbling that ball because his his feet were definitely in.
SPEAKER_05Herbolt gets a kickoff. It's gonna bounce near the 35 yard line. It's gonna roll dead near the 39-yard line. So the Dutch are gonna start off with great field position here at the Crusader 39-yard line. So they're starting in plus territory here on this drive. They've steadily got better field position with each drive they've had. Let's see if they can capitalize here with 142 to go in the first quarter. Again, it's the Crusaders on your Security Bank scoreboard. Crusaders up 7-0 as the Dutch break huddle. Late entry into the uh into into the play, high formation. Grondike goes under center, wide receivers wide each way. There's a quick pitch out to the right side. He's got he's got room. Nice run there, and they're gonna give him 11 yards on that play. That was Cargan Miller with a nice run there. That's his best production of the night. As he's gonna pick up a first down. So Miller now with two uh two runs for 13 yards, pushes the ball to the Crusader 29 yard line, first and ten now. All right, now they're gonna mark him a little bit short there. We'll give him nine yards on that. Second down and eight. Or second down and one, excuse me, for the Dutch.
SPEAKER_08Picking JJ Holpe in on that last tackle.
SPEAKER_05Shotgun formation for the Dutch, wide side to the left, two receivers to the left, backs. Growendike comes out, he's got a lot of pressure, can't find a receiver's receiver had lots of room to run there, but once again the Crusaders uh opened the floodgates there and put a lot of pressure on Grondike, and he throws it incomplete at the feet of number 12, uh Keegan Miller. As Cargan Miller now uh building a little more instrumental in the offense here. Maybe expect him to handle this uh third down and short for the Dutch. Dutch break huddle, high formation. Grondike's gonna go under center, calls his count, spins and pitches to the left side. Great defensive play by the Crusaders, making initial contact for the Crusaders was Prince Wagba, and then that linebacking core led by Finn Pack cleaned it up, and then I think they're gonna say it was a loss.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, uh it looks like a loss is one, and they're gonna have to snap the ball one more time before the end of the quarter. Give a quick shout out to Sophia, Cecilia, Eloise, and Claire. I know you're listening, and enjoy the rest of the game. Or go to bed early so Mom can enjoy the evening.
SPEAKER_05Fourth down and one. Looks like the Dutch are gonna have to snap it before the end of the quarter here. Uh fourth and a long one. They're gonna overload the left side, quarterback sneak by Grondike, and boy, he's gonna be right on the first down marker. It's all gonna depend how the uh linemen choose to mark this thing. On the road, typically you get those first down calls, and that's gonna be the case. So big uh big fourth down conversion there as Grondike gets the necessary two yards, and that's gonna end our first quarter. Big thanks to our first quarter sponsors. As always, Crusaders on your Security Bank scoreboard lead the Dutch seven to nothing from here in Orange City. After this 30-second spot, we'll be back for the start of quarter number two. It's Crusader Football Tonight on Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_02And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_057-0, but the Dutch find themselves with a first and ten at the Crusader 29-yard line. Great field position for the Dutch here as we start the second stanza. Tonight's second quarter is brought to you by our premier sponsor. That is Keller Williams real estate agent Tammy Bertrand, along with Liberty National Bank. I'm Bob Gary alongside Mike Skaggs tonight from Orange City here, bringing you football coverage. If you tuned in looking for the uh Travis Morgan voice, Travis has got uh hockey action back in Sioux City tonight, so uh he'll be back with us next week. But it's good to have Mike aboard as we start the second quarter here. Dutch break huddle. They've got uh receivers wide to each side, Groendike ball fakes, tries to flip it into the left side, and uh nobody there. In fact, uh I think the only receiver that was even close was one of his offensive tackles. As uh Crusaders have continued to put heavy pressure on uh Groendike. He has just not had time to sit back and throw. That's another incompletion for Groendike. In fact, he's only got five yards on the night through the air.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, they're not giving him a chance to get back there and get comfortable and get set. Uh Aaron Lis was in putting the pressure on that one, and he just had to throw that into the ground.
SPEAKER_05Again, this is a this is a team that averages over 190 yards through the air, so they're they're not accustomed to being held down this long. Second down and ten now. Crusaders put pressure once again. Groendike's gonna break the pocket, gets a nice run. Uh things shut down pretty quickly, though, as they're gonna give him two yards on that run. As uh once again they're just not giving him any time in the pocket. He broke it off the left side, two-yard gain on that. Third down and eight now for the Dutch. We're just starting quarter number two, 1133 to go here from Corver Field. Again, the Crusaders up 7-0 on your security bank scoreboard. Big third down for the Crusaders to try and uh stop the Dutch. I would guess it's probably four down territory for the Dutch here inside the Crusader 30-yard line. Wide receiver to the right, that's the wide side. There's a little trap action. They're going to uh fake the trap, quarterback draw, and that sniffed out nicely. And guess who did it? Max Asoff. Max with uh the stop, no gain there, and it's gonna bring up a fourth down now, and actually they're gonna lose one on that. And it's gonna bring fourth down and ten for the Dutch as they're gonna run it in. Looks like the Dutch are gonna go for it here inside the Crusader thirty yard line. Big fourth down situation here for that Crusader defense. Look for the ball to be in the air.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, it'd be about a fourth. 46 yard field goal from here. And I was watching their kicker in pregame, and he not even close to that range. So they've got no option but to go for it here.
SPEAKER_05One back, shotgun formation, two receivers to each side. There's pressure again. Groendike's got a break pocket. He's rolling to his right. He's going to be pressured and thrown down by Aaron Lis. Great job, Aaron, of throwing him for an eight-yard loss, and that's going to turn the ball over at the 36-yard line. So Aaron Liss coming through on the blitz forces the uh change of possession. The Crusaders are going to get great field position at the 36-yard line.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, absolutely. Max was in there. I had the initial pressure, and Groendike was able to get away, but Liss was right there to finish things off. And Healing defense is doing what they couldn't do last week. They're able to stop him and get off the field and get the ball back.
SPEAKER_05It's really been a difficult night tonight for uh Groendyke. He's just had no time to throw the ball. So here's the Crusaders now. Fourth possession of the night. They're going to go with a shotgun formation, empty backfield, two receivers to the left side. That's a short side, two to the right. As Milky's going to drop back, good protection, nice pocket. He's going to throw deep. He's got a receiver open there, and uh Matumbo just can't get to it near the 38-yard line. Uh Matumbo had a step on his defender, but uh the ball was just a little bit out of his range, incomplete, second down now, and ten from the 36 yard line. So neither quarterback, Mike,'s really been able to to to find the mojo you just yet.
SPEAKER_08Um this doesn't turn into an air Aaron Rodgers, Mike McCarthy situation from last night for MOC. Grondike is getting absolutely no time to to set up and and throw.
SPEAKER_05Here's the Crusaders. Now second down and 10. Three receivers to the right. Milky's gonna drop back. Again, good pocket, throws it. He's got an open receiver down deep. It's gonna be garnered in. Great catch there at the 38-yard line. I'm trying to see who who that was. Oh JJ Hope. And that's 14 plus uh 14 plus 12, 26 yards on the Hope carry or hope reception there. JJ already with 37 yards on two completions. Uh really nicely timed route there. 52 yards through the air now, puts the ball inside plus territory at the 39, 38 yard line, excuse me, of the Dutch. Crusaders quickly out of the huddle. They've got Wickham wide to the left. Wagbaugh to the right along with Moss. They send Matumbo in action in motion here, roll to the right, steps in and throws and goes right through the hands of Jesse Moss. There, a little bit firm on that throw, second down now, and ten for the Crusaders. Again, four down territory, you would think, inside the 40-yard line of the Dutch. 9 30 to go here, second quarter. Big thanks to all of you tuning in tonight. It's always a pleasure to bring uh Crusader football to all of you on these Friday nights. A beautiful fall Friday night, uh richly deserved after uh a couple of weeks of cloud cover and rain.
SPEAKER_08Absolutely. It's like we said earlier, it'd be nice if we could open the windows a little bit, but we'll we'll take the weather no matter what.
SPEAKER_05Second down and ten. Milky pump fakes, breaks a tackle, now flips it. And uh boy, they caught it. Yeah. Milky got over the line of scrimmage, flipped it to his receiver. His receivers finally dragged down at the two-yard line, but uh that's all gonna be for Nod as Milky just got over the line of scrimmage. Trying to see who he flipped that to. I think it might have been uh might have been Javon Bergen who was a beneficiary there, but the officials are gonna convey near the thirty yard line, and uh I think he was clearly over the line of scrimmage. Again, this is one of those situations where you don't have the luxury of a review. If any part of your body is still in front of the line of scrimmage, that's a g that's a uh legal play, but in this case it's uh all for naught as there's gonna be penalty yards marked off, so it was a 38-yard gain down to the one, and uh that's gonna go in vain here as the ball's gonna be spotted now at the forty-two-yard line. Also, I believe a loss of down on that. So third down now and thirteen for the Crusaders. Big possession here as they try and uh add to this seven to nothing lead here with 9.15 to go under Security National Bank scoreboard, three receivers wide to the left, wide side of the field. Milkey handles the snap, puts it up top. He's got a receiver deep. Great catch by JJ, and JJ's gonna go down all the way to the seven-yard line, thirty-five yards on that completion. JJ Hope. Wow.
SPEAKER_08Man, he got off the ground on that. He showed some elevation. Good job bringing that in, and then uh yards after catch on that were were huge.
SPEAKER_05He has been the principal receiver tonight for Milky. Already three catches for 72 yards for uh JJ Hope. Ball's gonna be spotted at the six. So first and goal for the Crusaders inside the red zone at the six-yard line as they're trying to attack one more on here. They lead seven to nothing with eight forty-two to go here in quarter number two. Crusaders break huddle. They're gonna go back to that eye formation. They got Moss at the fullback, nap at the I back. They spin hand to nap off the left side, and he's got nothing there. And right there to meet him was number 35 for the Dutch. That was uh I don't have Dutch, I don't have 35 on the roster there.
SPEAKER_08We and there was a flag on the plate, we were off sides. So that'll back us up.
SPEAKER_05That was Burke Yule for the Dutch uh with uh that met uh running back deep in his own in the backfield uh but it's uh Crusader's gonna get first down all over again as a five-yard penalty, he's gonna push it back to the eleven. First down and goal once again. Ball spot at the 11-yard line, 815 to go here. Ball's left hash mark, eye formation. Knapp up the middle, goes off the left side, is gonna get uh we'll give him four yards on that carry. Nice little run there off the left side. Unofficially, six carries, 25 yards for Dylan Knapp. Going to bring up second down now and goal from just inside the seven-yard line as the Crusaders are gonna run the play in here. Ball spotted left hash mark, wide side of the field to the right as the Crusaders move right to left on your radio dial. Trying to stuff another one into the end zone here, 740 to go in your second quarter. Crusaders already up 7-0. Eye formation now, three receivers to the right. They spin, they avoid the blitz. Knapp with a great job of avoiding the tackle, yards after contact, gets the ball back to the five or to the five-yard line, two-yard gain on that. That looked like it was probably going to be a loss there as the Dutch dialed up a perfect blitz, but uh Knapp was able to avoid that, get positive yards now. Third down and five from the Dutch five-yard line. So be interesting to see if uh the Crusaders can't push it in if they go with the field goal here to go up two scores.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, Lane Potterbaum, he was back there waiting for the handoff. You're right, we were lucky to get any positive yardage out of that because he was right there when the handoff was made.
SPEAKER_05High formation. Milky goes under center, receivers to each side. Now they put McTumbo in motion. They're gonna overload the left side. They're gonna spin the handoff to Knapp. Knapp's got nothing as once again that Dutch defense is all over it. Uh no gain for Knapp, and it's gonna bring up fourth down and goal from the five, and one would guess that we'll probably see the very confident kicker for the Crusaders, Reed Herbold. Reed's had a good season so far. He's hit on uh, I believe three or four on his field goal attempts this year. This one's gonna be spotted at the twelve-yard line, left side, left hash mark. So got a little angle going on this one. Snap is good. Ball's place, kick is up and right down the middle there. Great kick there by Reed Herbolt as he knocks home the 22-yard field goal. So it's 6 06, halfway through quarter number two. Crusaders tack on another three and they lead 10-0 on your Security National Bank scoreboard. We'll be right back after this 30-second spot. It's Crusader Football here on Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_02And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_05Back everyone, you're listening to Second Quarter Action here from Corver Field at Orange City. Tonight's second quarter of Crusader Action is brought to you by Keller Williams Real Estate Agent Tammy Bertran and Liberty National Bank, along with Myra Favor's State Farm Agency, Lawler Fixtures, the Bargain Center, Service Masters, Sulan, Roz Cobe, and Heidman Law Firm, Soho Kitchen and Bar, and Tim and Deb. Timmins, the Crusaders, with that 22-yard field goal go up 10 to nothing here, halfway through second quarter action. Crusaders are about ready to put uh foot to foot to ball here from their own 40-yard line as they kick off back deep for the uh for the Dutch, and the ball's not gonna get deep there. It's a pooch kick that lands near the 10. Really a nice kick there, and uh the Crusaders cover it well, leading the charge for the Crusader deep. Was uh Frelick, and we'll see if they're gonna call that down.
SPEAKER_08It's our ball too.
SPEAKER_05It's healing balling ball with the fumble was Hudson Klein Heslink, and uh about three different uh Crusaders were all over that. I think Finn Peck was out there. Uh we saw uh Raiden Frelick out there in the mix, and uh boy, that's a big turnover as the Crusaders are gonna get the ball inside the red zone at the Dutch 19-yard line. Don't be surprised if uh the Crusaders don't go for seven right on this first play here and try and get the ball to one of their outstanding uh wide receivers here. They lead 10-0, 5.59 to go here in the second quarter. They're gonna break huddle, ball spotted left hash mark, two receivers to the right. Wickham, the lone receiver, wide right. In the backfield is Knapp. Now Wickham's gonna come in motion across the lineup. They give a little trap play to Dylan Knapp, and Dillon's gonna get three yards on that carry. Yards are suddenly coming very hard for Dillon there. Uh they motioned from right to left and then went back against the grain with a little trap play. Give him three yards on first down, second down, and seven for the Crusaders. Again, ball spotted just outside the 16 yard line.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I don't believe they've thrown Grant or Whitcomb's way yet tonight.
SPEAKER_05Play comes in for the Crusaders. Still plenty of time on the play clock, 13 seconds. Shotgun formation, naps off to the left of Wick of Milkey. He's gonna fake it. Milky rolls to his left, finds a receiver up the field, caught nicely by Moss. Moss is gonna get all the way down to the four-yard line and get first down territory, first and goal, great catch there by Moss, and uh he's gonna get 11 yards on that, and the Crusaders once again are deep inside of Dutch territory.
SPEAKER_08Huge yards after catch on that. He had a good hard run after making that uh spinning reception.
SPEAKER_05Let's see if the Crusaders can punch it in now. Ball spotted. First and goal from the four. Solo back is nap. Milky goes under center. He ball fakes, a little bootleg action, throws deep in the end zone, and Matumbo drops the ball. Beautiful pass, just could not complete it. Very, very well designed bootleg action, faked it to nap, rolled to his left. Matumbo was wide open and just couldn't handle it in the back of the end zone. Second down and goal now from the four.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, you're right. He was wide open. They couldn't have put that ball in there any better.
SPEAKER_05So second down now and goal from the from the four-yard line. You gotta believe that uh Coach LeFleur and staff want to punch this one in. They don't want to settle for another field goal here. Up 10-0 with 5-05 to go in your second quarter. Crusaders break huddle. Tight formation with wings to the right side, two res two uh running backs, blanket uh Milky. Milky rolls to his left. There's penalty flags as he gets it to Wagbaugh, and Wagbaugh gets it in near the end zone inside the one. But uh believe the Crusaders are gonna be called perhaps for an illegal formation there. Referees are conferring. Checking with MLC to see whether they want to take the penalty. They're actually gonna spot it back at the two. That surprises me a little bit. It looked like Wagbaugh got a little deeper than that. Waiting for the White Hat to make his call. And the ball's going to be pushed back five yards from the original spot spot, which will put the ball near the nine-yard line. Second down and goal now for the Crusaders with another opportunity to push it in the end zone with 458 to go here in quarter number two. Shotgun formation, wide receivers too wide for both sides. Now they're going to overload the right side with JJ Hope. Roll to the right is Milkey. He breaks a tackle, fakes the throw, gets inside, and he's going to get all the way in to the end zone. Great run there by Milkey. Nine yards on the touchdown play. He had receivers all over the place, but he tucked it away, rolling deep to his right side. Got it in. Second touchdown of the night for Milky, and that puts the Crusaders up 16 to nothing with 451 to go here in the second quarter. PAT pending. Big thanks to Myra Favor, State Farm Agency, Lawler Fixtures, the Bargain Center, Service Masters, Sulan, Roscobe and the Hydman Law Firm, Soho Kitchen and Bar, Deb and Tim Timmons, as well as our premier sponsor, Keller Williams Real Estate Agent Tammy Bertrand and Liberty National Bank. They are your second quarter sponsors as we're getting ready for the extra point. Here's a snap. Ball set down. Kick is up and right through the end zone. And it's perfect. Once again, Crusaders 17. The Dutch nothing. 451 to go here in quarter number two. After this 30-second spot, we'll have once again another kickoff as the Crusaders make hay on that turnover and push it in. 17-0 Crusaders. We'll be right back.

SPEAKER_02And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_05Welcome back, everyone, as the Crusaders are getting ready to kick off. Just marched it in on a short drive here. They recovered a fumble off the last kickoff at the 19-yard lines. Five plays later, the Crusaders are able to push it in. Nine-yard milky touchdown run. Puts the Crusaders up 17-0 as the Crusaders little pooch kick that's going to land near the 22-yard line. They're not going to take it deep. Great coverage there by the Crusaders. Big hit given at the 26-yard line. Let's see who made that hit. That was number 24 for the Crusaders. That was Tommy Carroll laying the wood to the uh Dutch receiver there. The ball's going to be spotted now at the 28-yard line, and the Crusaders uh defense, Mike, has just been, I guess, super dominant. The Dutch have just not been able to manufacture anything on the offensive side.
SPEAKER_08This is exactly what the coaching staff, I'm sure, harped on all week long, and this is uh the type of performance that uh they were hoping for uh after last week.
SPEAKER_05There's a quick toss out to the right side by the Dutch. They overloaded that with receivers and uh Max Aesoffs there to limit the gain to just uh in fact no gain on that completion. Ball was thrown out to Pottebaum, Lane Pottabaum with the reception, but uh nothing going for Lane there. Just been a tough night through the air, only five yards unofficially through the air for Grendike tonight, second down out and ten after that completion. Max Asoff sniffed that thing out and knocked him down right away. Second down and ten. Grondike goes under center, eye formation. He spins, ball fake, kicks it out to his running back. He's got some space there, nice gain on that. Let's give him eight. Really nicely uh nicely calibrated play there as Cargan Miller gets the uh pass, and Miller gets eight yards out of that. It's gonna bring up a third down and two for the Dutch. Again, kind of using the Crusader aggressiveness against him there.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, they did. That uh Healing been putting a lot of pressure on Grondike uh all night long, and they took advantage of that, and he was able to uh get some tough yards there.
SPEAKER_05Let's see what they draw up here now. Third down and two. Eye formation. He spins, he ball fakes, drops back, he's got pressure. Now he's got a little open space, throws it up the field, and it was nearly interception, then caught. Great catch there by number 10, Junior Samuels, as he's gonna push the ball up to the uh from the 35-yard line up to the 48-yard line, so 13 yards on that completion. Uh boy, it was a 50-50 play there. It looked like JJ Hope might grab the interception there, but uh Samuels was able to pull away and give the uh Dutch a first down near midfield at their own 48-yard line. 305 to go here in quarter number two. High formation for the Dutch. They spin, they toss it back to Miller. Miller's got some blockers out ahead of him, and there's penalty flags all over the place as Miller gets eight yards on the carry. Let's see if uh perhaps we got a holding call on that. Or maybe I saw things on the I thought I saw a flag there. Apparently I did not. I wonder if he just threw his beanie there to mark something. So give uh Cargan Miller eight yards on that. Nice run there. He's got three carries, 19 yards now. Second down and one inside plus territory at the Crusader 43 yard line. Ball spot. Ball spotted on the left hash mark. There's wide receiver to the left, uh, double tight here, eye formation. Uh they might ride Miller here a little bit as they've moved the ball into Crusader territory here with under three minutes to go. They spin, hand off to Miller. Miller goes off the left side, and let's give him uh five-yard line. Five yards on that, and now it is a first down. Really starting to establish some uh some mojo on that offensive line is the Dutch here as the ball clock clicks down under two and a half minutes to go. Ball spotted now at the 38-yard line. Fresh set of downs for the Dutch in plus territory at the Crusader 38. Once again, a big thanks to our premier second quarter sponsor, Tammy Bertrand of Keller Williams Real Estate and Liberty National Bank. As the Dutch break huddle. Ball spotted left hash mark, wide side of the field to the right. They're gonna send two receivers to the right, one to the left, shotgun formation for Groendike. He's got Miller in the backfield with him. Quick out route here, sniffed out right away. Nicely done by Whitcomb and Baker to knock it down for no gain.
SPEAKER_08A little bit of a blitz there by Healen, and he had to get rid of that ball quickly. And Whitcomb and Baker were right out there to keep him from getting any yardage.
SPEAKER_05Van Z with that catch for the Dutch. Uh no gain on that. Looked like they had things set up. We're gonna see a timeout on the field here with 206 to go. We got time for a 30-second spot when we come back. The Dutch with a second down and 10 from the Crusader 38. We'll be right back. It's Crusader Football here on Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_02And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_05Alongside Mike Skaggs, I'm Bob Gary here from Orange City. Second down and 10 for the Dutch from the Crusader 38-yard line. And boy, I tell you what, you got to be careful with those out routes with Whitcomb and Wagbaugh out there because they sniff those things out really well. Don't be surprised to see an INT on one of those later in the game here. Second down and 10 now. The Dutch are going to push it back. A little double reverse action. Van Z. He's got an open field. Wide open field to the left side. He's going to get all the way down near the 20-yard line. 18 yards on the double reverse. So out of the timeout, they're able to draw up some uh some trickery as Van Z is going to get 18 yards on that carry and push the ball just near the red zone at the 21-yard line of the Crusaders. 155 to go here. Clock is stopped with the first down.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, everything was bunched up on this side when they made that first handoff, and then they did the pitch back, and that uh opposite side of the field was wide open.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we're kind of lucky to get that off. I thought they might sniff that out. But uh first and ten, they've moved the stakes. First and ten from the Crusader 21-yard line, trying to cut into that 17-0 Crusader lead. 155 to go here in the corner, as uh Grondike's gonna drop back, steps up in the pocket, and he's gonna be knocked down for a loss there. We'll give the Crusaders a sack there. That's Finn Peck on that sack along with Milky Well. Excuse me, along with Mickey on that. Uh so as Mickey and Peck with that sack there, it's gonna bring up a second down and eleven from the Crusader 22-yard line. And once again, uh MLC is gonna utilize the timeout, gives us a chance to thank our second quarter sponsors one more time. They are Tim and Deb Timmins, proud grandparents of Noan Mickey. Mickey just got uh part of that sack there. Soho, Kitchen and Bar, Ros Cobe and the Hydman Law Firm, Service Master of Sioux Land, the Bargain Center, Lawler Fixtures, and Myra Favor, State Farm Agency. They joined Tammy Bertrana, Keller Williams Real Estate, and Liberty National Bank as your second quarter sponsors. Once again, halftime is rapidly approaching in our halftime show. We'll have uh Tim Swedeen, the executive director of Catholic Radio, will take a few minutes and talk to you guys about some some of the upcoming events here on Catholic Radio. But uh before then, we've got uh minute 47 to go as the Dutch try and cut into this Crusader 17 and nothing lead.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, they've uh not been able to do it through the air, so they've decided we're gonna try to do it on the ground on this drive and uh been pretty effective with that so far.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, unofficially I've got them down for 47 yards of total offense, so it's just been tough going, but uh the Dutch find themselves uh knocking on the door here just outside the red zone now. Second down and 12, ball spotted left hash mark, wide receivers to each side, three receivers right side. Grondike drops back, he's got pressure, and he's gonna be slung down. Great pressure there once again by Finn Peck as the ball comes loose, but I think the ball was already down, and that's gonna be a five-yard loss, and now you might see the Crusaders start utilizing some of their timeouts for the chance to maybe get the ball back here. Five-yard loss by the quarterback Growendike. Ball spotted now at the twenty-eight-yard line, and uh that in fact I believe is gonna be the case. They haven't marked it up on the board as to who took it yet, but just looking at Coach LaFleur over there, he acted like maybe he was the one that was gonna take that timeout, uh, waiting for the official scoreboard here to register just who had that timeout. In any case, it's gonna be third down and seventeen. Ball's gonna be spotted at the 28 yard line. In fact, it was uh the Dutch that took that timeout, so they're gonna try and draw something up here, third and long, trailing 17 to nothing, 96 ticks on the clock left here. Again, our halftime tonight, our uh Sioux City Musketeers halftime. We're gonna have uh a recap of tonight's uh first half as well as some comments from the executive director of Catholic Radio, Mr. Tim Swedeen. It's great to have all of you aboard tonight. As always, big thanks goes out to all our sponsors. Um quick congratulations to the uh Bishop Healing golf team as they were crowned conference champion yesterday at Lamar's, um led by Jack Shetler as they have been throughout the course of the year. Jack with an outstanding 67 to get runner up individually, but uh Crusaders move on to district play in golf on Monday. So here's the Dutch now, third down and long, pressure in the backfield, and he is gonna near he's gonna go down. Yeah, he was had Mickey all around his ankles. He was trying to keep upright and throw the ball, and finally he just decided he better tuck it away, and it's a huge loss all the way back to the 37-yard line as the clock ticks away 112. Doesn't look like the Crusaders are gonna take a timeout here. It's gonna be fourth and long. We'll call it fourth and twenty-six. So on that loss, it was minus nine on the quarterback sack, and a rough night on the ground for Groendike. He's got seven carries for negative 17 yards. We're under 50 seconds to go here, fourth down and long as the Dutch are gonna come to the line of scrimmage, look for some kind of Hail Mary action here, perhaps, with 40 seconds to go. Two receivers to the right, and now there's a uh movement on the Dutch line of scrimmage, so it's gonna bring up a fourth and thirty-one. Now you gotta consider with the potential here. I I'm not so sure the Dutch won't punt this. I think this would be kind of there's just not a lot of plays, Mike, in the playbook for fourth and thirty-one.
SPEAKER_08No, there's not. I I had a feeling before the uh illegal motion that maybe they were gonna do a pooch kick the way Grondike was acting back there, but this looks like a full-fledged punt.
SPEAKER_05And Grondike is their punter, and uh JJ Hope is back at his inside his own ten-yard line. Looks like he's gonna field it. He's got a little space here. Cuts to his right. He's got uh he's got some open field there, but we're gonna get a hold called on the Crusaders there as they had the uh the runner for MOC kind of bunched up near the 24-yard line, and maybe got a little too aggressive with their hands there. So this is gonna be uh brought back. Hope was tackled near the 40-yard line, but uh the Crusaders are gonna get the ball probably somewhere near the 15-yard line, and it might even be a little bit deeper than that. So we're we're sitting right next to the uh Crusader coaching staff, and I think they're already headed down to I don't think you're gonna see the Crusaders try anything extravagant here, deep in their own territory, leading 17 to nothing with 10 seconds to go here in the second quarter. As always, a big thanks to our great sponsors for our first half, as again we're just on the verge of completing half number one, and Crusaders are gonna head to the locker room, up seventeen to nothing here as they just take a knee, and the final ten ticks of the quarter come to fruition, and the Crusaders now will head to halftime. 17 to nothing as they try and even their record at 3-3 on the season and one and one in the district. Again, the Crusaders 17. The Dutch nothing here from Orange City. It's Crusader football this fine evening from Orange City. We'll be right back after we hear a word from uh our some of our great sponsors as well as uh executive director of uh Catholic Radio, Mr. Tim Swedeen. We'll be right back.

SPEAKER_00You're listening to FM 88.1, KFHC, Ponco Sioux City, and KOIA, Storm Lake, Siouxland Catholic Radio.
SPEAKER_09Well, that sure was an exciting first half between the Dutchman and the Crusaders. This is Tim Swane, Executive Director of Sioux Land Catholic Radio. Our alliances at the station are so important to us. Bishop Healand Schools, the Diocese of Sioux City, Bradcliffe University, the Mars Galen Catholic Schools, Mary's Choice, Holy Spirit retirement. We intentionally engage most everything Catholic in this community. We do this by being involved with Catholic events and building partnerships with the local Catholic entities. Catholic is not a definition. It is a tradition, a history, a legacy, it is our mission. Our station offers EWTM programming, Bishop Helen Sports, and local faithful programs like Life Plan with Deacon Bart Zavaletta, Father Knows Best with Father Mark Stoole, Faith in Action with Joanne Fox. We are a media and broadcasting outlet. It is not lost on us that Bishop Fulton Sheen, a hero in our media industry, was beatified within the last few weeks. We celebrate the recognition and honor that this groundbreaking bishop is receiving. Listening to Life is Worth Living on television and radio is a cherished memory for so many Catholics. Please note that we can hear Life is Worth Living every weekday at 320 on this station. This time of year, the station is particularly driven towards community outreach. We broadcast and engage Bishop Hele in many ways, primarily athletic. But these are the mostly at the secondary level, not the primary. For the second year in a row the past week, members of our team visited every local Catholic elementary school, giving them a book on St. Gabriel, a small Jesus figurine, and a project to work with the students in every second grade. We are working with the teachers at the elementary levels to get a greater presence and give interested students a chance to express their faith values. Over the next several weeks, we are going to be in the parking lots of the Catholic elementary schools locally, giving out coffee and pastry to parents as they drop their children off for school. Again, youth is an incredible focus of what we're trying to do. In addition, Deacon Bart Zavaleta, a deacon in the Diocese of Omaha, is coming to Healand to present to a group of students on October 16th. Deacon Bard is the voice behind our life plan show that interviews students about their faith journey. This groundbreaking event will hopefully provide leverage to continue this process locally. KFHC is adamant about securing the future of Catholic faith, and it lies in today's youth. We know we do not exist without the general support of you, our listeners. Twice a year, we have a pledge drive that supports our operations and ensures our viability. Our fall pledge drive is November 10th through November 12th, and we are doing remotes from Bit Briar Cliff University, the Diocese of Sioux City, Bishop Healand Schools, and all Saints Parish in the Mars. We interview local people about their faith journey and we ask you to contribute to our sustained operations. Please save these dates and be a supporter by listening. And if your heart moves you, please support us financially. We are humbled that you turn your radio tuning to our station, and we are always refining and improving the air quality. Please listen to us in your car, on your computer, on your phone, or even download our app. The management at the station is incredibly grateful for your support in both listening and giving financially. Thank you so much for being with us. And now back to Grace for some of our wonderful sponsor ads.

SPEAKER_02And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_05And welcome back, everyone. You're listening to the Sioux City Musketeers halftime show here on 88.1 FM, KFHC KOIA, Catholic Radio, where the Crusaders lead the MOC Floyd Dutchman, uh, Floyd Valley Dutchman 17 to nothing. In addition to our halftime sponsor, the Sioux City Musketeers, other halftime sponsors include Bush Dry Cleaners, Dr. Ryan Meese of CNOS, Jimmy Johns, the Vision Professionals, Advanced Thompson Vision, J and J Coins and Collectibles, Wilmus Duo Best Hardware of Sioux City and South Sioux City, St. Augustine Indian Mission, and Russ and Tina Bertrand and RJ Tide Company. On your Security National Bank scoreboard, once again, it is the Crusaders up 17 to nothing here in first half action. Again, it is halftime here from Orange City. Real quickly, the stats for two pretty powerful offensive teams. Not a lot of statistics here for the Crusaders, 41 yards on the ground with 12 carries. They were led by a knapp with nine carries for 30 yards. In the air, 99 yards on 5 for 11 throwing by Milky again 140 total yards for the Crusaders unofficially in half number one for the MLC, Floyd Valley Dutch, 27 yards on 13 carries, just uh 2.1 yards per carry for the Dutch, 26 yards through the air on 7 for 12, throwing by their outstanding quarterback Groendike. He also had one INT, 53 total yards. So uh the Crusader defense has done their job tonight, Mike, uh, and it's really been maybe not quite the game I expected. I thought there'd be a little more uh a little more pinball action, the ball in the air, and uh a little more action offensively.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I we talked about it on the way up, and I thought the same thing too, but the pressure that the Healing defense is getting uh on Grondike, uh getting into the backfield and not giving him a chance to settle his feet and and find his receivers and you know, a little bit of a good turnaround for Healing the first two drives they had. They they turned the ball over and they've able put 17 points on the board and should have twenty-four. Uh that pass that was dropped, wide open pass that was dropped in the end zone. But other than that, the defense has just been fantastic tonight.
SPEAKER_05And we can we kind of suspected that maybe the Crusaders would have the advantage at the line of scrimmage, and that has certain certainly manifested itself. Uh Groendike's just not getting any time to throw the ball, and he's had to break pocket. In fact, uh unofficially I've got him at uh seven rushes for minus 17 yards, and that might be generous to him. Uh he has just been uh been under pressure the entire night. Uh really their only action has been uh uh a double reverse that got them positive yards and and some quick out routes, but uh again the Crusader defense has been quick to stop most of those. So a really nice defensive effort by that Crusader defense here in half number one, bouncing back from I think what was probably a disappointing uh defensive effort last week against a very good Sioux Center team. But uh kind of taking a moment here, some of the things that are going on at Bishop Healing.
SPEAKER_08I just got this uh back to golf real fast, though. Yeah. Was that did the coach have anything to do with that that performance?
SPEAKER_05The coach coach the coach got him there safely in the van.
SPEAKER_08That's about all that coach does. And then got him to was Bob still open when he got the biggest.
SPEAKER_05Got him to Bob's drive in for uh for a victory celebration, but a nice job by the golf team yesterday. And and again, they got district action back at Lamar's on Monday. That is a loaded field, uh several central Iowa teams. Uh Dallas Center Grimes, who's probably the number one golf team in 4A, is gonna be at Lamar's. Uh Dowlin Catholic will be there, Waukey will be there, uh a good uh East High team, a good AL Council Bus AL team. Uh of course the Crusaders will come in with some positive stuff there, but uh you're gonna have to go low there to make the state tournament, which will be held in Davenport uh a week from Monday. So congratulations to that MRAC golf team. Also, congratulations go out to the girls' tennis team, which is having an outstanding season. Uh wish I could give you more details. I left my notes on them at home, but uh I just I do know that both individually and as a team, uh they're making their march toward uh tennis state. Uh I believe the qualifier to get to state as a team is going to be held this upcoming week. So congratulations to the girls on an outstanding year. And this also from uh Todd Rohrig, the outstanding cross-country coach at Healand. Uh Todd said they had two events this week. The first one was in Glenwood on Monday, running in the rain. And uh in that uh Monday event, Ella Otten placed fifth, and Ellie Toff was 21st in the varsity girls in the JV race. Uh Kinley Keegan won the girls' race, uh, JV action down in Glenwood. On the boys' side of Glenwood, uh Alex Amaro placed 12th in the varsity meet, and Micah Bissell placed second in the JV meet. Uh yesterday they stayed a little closer to home over in South Sioux City in that event. Uh Alex Amaro was the runner-up in the varsity race. For the guys and for the gals, uh Ella Otten placed 12th, and Ellie Top was 20th in the varsity girls race. Uh Todd also wanted to mention that the middle school boys and girls teams are both running well this year. Their next meet for the varsity boys and girls will be on Thursday in four Dodge. So once again, Todd's doing a great job with that cross-country team. So lots of lots of successful stuff. And uh we also need to mention what a volleyball win last night for the Crusaders as the 12th ranked Crusaders came back from a two to one deficit to win to come from way back in the fourth game and then win it in a five-setter as uh they upset the uh number ninth ranked uh Sergeant Bluff Luton Warriors on just an outstanding night of volleyball at uh at the O'Gorman Fieldhouse last night. So congratulations to Coach Westhoff and the girls there on a big comeback win. And uh things looked kind of bleak there in the fourth set, but uh Crusaders uh found a way to hammer it out and then controlled the fifth set uh to win a big one there with uh ranked two ranked teams playing each other. Great great crowds, by the way, there last night. Both both uh student sections were outstanding.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, both and it looked like they were trading hostages. Looks like some of their students were being brought over to our section, our students were being taken over there. But yeah, the girls really fought uh through what, like you said, was a pretty dismal looking fourth set. It looked like they were gonna lose uh three sets to one, and uh they just dug deep and and were able to come back and send it to a fifth set, and then just really rolled over them. For those of you who don't think you're gonna be able to go to sleep tonight till you know who the guest picker is gonna be on game day tomorrow, it's gonna be Caitlin Clark.
SPEAKER_05That's a shock.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, there's there's a big sprout. They're not playing basketball anymore. She got eliminated, so she's got some free time. But so she'll she'll be doing that. So now if that's what you were waiting up for to see what game day was gonna announce, now you can you can turn it to something else or uh keep Listening to us and and we'll bring you the second half action. Should be a fun second half.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely. Congratulations to the Hawks on a big win last week and uh man getting game day there. It's gonna be a wound up uh wound up atmosphere in Iowa City tomorrow as uh as they're uh taking on a very good Ohio State team. I was a little surprised.
SPEAKER_08Fourteen and a half point spread seems like an awful lot in that game with Iowa at home, but uh You have to wonder what it would be if it was at night, because you know Ohio State doesn't like coming to Iowa City at night. You'd have to wonder if it if the spread would be different, but uh I was my family asked me earlier in the week, and I just you know what, if if I'm wrong, they'll just say, Well, we know you're stupid, but I told them Iowa's gonna shock the world. I think Iowa can beat them.
SPEAKER_05The uh and one more note, uh I believe it's Catholic Radio's plan as the as the as the volleyball team gets a little deeper into into the seasoning and near the playoffs, that we're gonna try and bring you some coverage of uh Crusader volleyball um when they get to playoff time. So uh stay tuned for more information on that. We'd be excited to bring you that. It's it's a really nice group and uh they've had a great season, so we'll be trying to give coverage to as many of our healing programs as we can here on Catholic Radio. Once again, you're listening to our Musketeers halftime show, Crusaders up 17 to nothing. Still about five minutes left here in halftime. Our other halftime sponsors include Bush Strike Cleaners, Dr. Ryan Miser, CNOS, Jimmy Johns, the Vision Professionals, Advanced Thompson Vision, J and J. Coins and Collectibles, Wilmus Doabest Hardware in Sioux City and South Sioux City, St. Augustine Indian Mission, and Russ and Tina Bertrand and RJ Tig Company. On your Security National Bank scoreboard, it is the Crusaders 17. And the Dutch from MLC Floyd Valley, nothing. We're going to take it back to Grace to give us three or four more ads. When we come back, uh we'll set the stage for half number two from here in Orange City. Again, it's Crusader Football Tonight on Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_02And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_05And welcome back, Crusader Nation. You've been listening to the Sioux City Musketeers halftime show here on 88.1 FM, KFHC, KOIA Catholic Radio, Crusaders lead MLC Floyd Valley, 17 to Nuts, and our other halftime sponsors have been Bush Dry Cleaners, Dr. Ryan Mees of CNOS, Jimmy Johns, the Vision Professionals, Advanced Thompson Vision, J and J Coins of Collectibles, the two uh two hardware locations for Wilmust Do It B Do It Best Hardware in South Sioux City and Sioux City, St. Augustine Indian Mission, and Russ and Tina Bertrand and RJ Tide Company. As always, a big thanks to all our great sponsors who make all of our coverage possible. Just a quick update on what's coming up on the football front next week as the Crusaders will make the uh long trip to Webster City. Again, uh next week coverage here at 6.45, kickoff at 7, as Travis and I will make the long venture to Webster City next week. Uh Webster City currently stands at 1-0 on the uh season, are in the district, and 1-4 on the season. They had a big 21-7 win over Humboldt, and they are taking on Sioux Center tonight. My guess is that uh Sioux Center will probably take that ball game, and then the Crusaders will finish the season out at home as they'll have to take on Humboldt in two weeks from tonight, and then finish the season out with a good all going to team. So uh Crusaders long road trip again next week. Uh if you uh don't want to make the trip, uh please tune in to us on Catholic Radio. We're always excited to bring in Crusader football each and every Friday as the Crusaders try and make a push into this year's 3A playoffs. Well, we're uh marking down here, just about 15 seconds left. Uh both teams got out of the uh out of their locker rooms in a timely manner. Uh nice performance here by the MOC band and their dance team as they entertain this really nice crowd here at uh MOC at uh homecoming at Northwestern College when uh Mike and I pulled into the pulled into the uh stadium tonight. There were all kinds of uh dressed up people taking all kinds of homecoming pictures, so big events going on. I would imagine they were honoring their Hall of Fame candidates here uh as they'll have Hall of Fame action here from uh Corver Field tomorrow, Northwestern College. But a big thanks again to the great people here at Northwestern College as well as MLC Floyd Valley Mitch Albers for allowing us this opportunity to call tonight's ballgame. So we're ready for a kickoff here to start quarter number three. It'll be the Crusaders kicking it deep. And it's gonna be fielded near the six-yard line by the Dutch as they're gonna bring it all the way across the field. They got a little wall set up on the left side. The ball's gonna go near the 30 and pushed out of bounds at the 31-yard line where the Dutch will start their first possession, trailing 17-0 with just 11.50 to go here in your third quarter. Tonight's third quarter is brought to you through the generosity of our premier third quarter sponsors. They are Folk Brothers and Prime Bank. Alongside Mike Skeggs, I'm Bob Geary. Grace Top back at the studio. It's always a pleasure to have you with us for Friday night football here on Catholic Radio as the Dutch are going to start this possession. Moving left to right on your radio dial. The referee's gonna spot the ball in the left hash mark at the 30-yard line as they'll start possession number one of the second half, trailing again 17-0.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, we went away from the pooch kick that we'd we'd done most of the game and decided to kick it deep.
SPEAKER_05Dutch break huddle. They've got three receivers to the wide side, which is the right side, one back. That's Miller to the right side of the quarterback. Quick pass out to Miller. He's got a lead blocker out there. He breaks the tackle, he's gonna get about ten yards. Nicely done there for the uh running back for the Dutch. In fact, that was Van Z with that catch. As we're gonna give him uh ten yards, maybe eleven yards on that reception. That's his second reception of the night.
SPEAKER_08Those quick passes are what they're gonna have to start using because that's the only way they're gonna have time to get anything going.
SPEAKER_05And the Crusaders really had that defended pretty well, but Van Z was able to break a tackle and get some extra yards there. First and ten Dutch. Crusader at their own uh 41-yard line. There's a snap. This pitch goes out to Cargan Miller. Miller's going around the left side. He's gonna be tripped up and brought down near uh after a four-yard gain. Uh trying to see who Dylan Knapp was able to get in to trip him off the trip. Let's uh let's give Miller uh four yards on that carry. So a couple productive plays here to start the half for the Dutch. We're inside the first minute of the uh third quarter here as the Dutch have progressed the ball up to their own 45-yard line. Second down now, and we'll call it seven. Wide side of the field to the right side. They got two receivers each way, shotgun formation, grownd a couple steps back, steps up into the pocket, finds his receiver open for first down yardage inside Crusader territory at the Crusader 49-yard line. Nice pitch and catch there. Once again, it's Van D Van Z with the catch. He now has three catches for 13 yards on the night, and it's moved the uh Dutch into plus territory at the Crusader 49 yard line. So good start, uh Mike, for the Dutch here on their first series of the third quarter.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, good job there by Grondike, just biding his time and letting his receiver get uh work his way open and get that completion.
SPEAKER_05And that's really the only success they've had tonight is those is those short passes. He just does not have a lot of time to throw. So Dutch are gonna be late getting the play in six seconds, five seconds, and the Dutch are gonna be forced to waste a time out here very early in the third quarter. That's kind of a coach's nightmare when you're trailing, but uh big play for them, first and ten now from the Crusader 49-yard line. It gives us a chance to thank our third quarter sponsors. They are Falk Brothers and Prime Bank, along with Catholic Charities, I'm on Communications, Barclay Asphalt, Moder Day Parrish, R. E. Scott, and Gretken Family ICAR is on your Security National Bank scoreboard with 1024 to go in the third quarter. It is the Crusaders 17 and the Dutch nothing. Looking uh at the schedules as well, this uh MLC Floyd Valley team after taking on the Crusaders tonight will make the trip to Humboldt next week. So the Crusaders will uh venture off to Webster City. Well, the uh Dutch are gonna make the road trip to Humboldt, so long trips for both those teams next week. District is pretty spread out.
SPEAKER_08Yes, it is. It's uh too bad they can't spread those road trips out just a little bit.
SPEAKER_05First and ten now, the Dutch as a shotgun formation, quick out route there is sniffed out and thrown down right away. The completion went to uh Hudson Klein Heslink, and uh right there to make the tackle was Prince Wagba, and they're gonna say maybe a gain of one yard there. Oh, and on top of that, we're gonna get a roughing the passer call. So, first of all, Klein Hesling with the one yard reception. Mark that down, and now they're gonna march 15 off, and that's gonna push the ball down to the Crusader 32-yard line. So a productive start to this drive. This drive started back near the uh 30-yard line for the Dutch, and now they've moved it near the Crusader 30-yard line at the Crusader 32-yard line. First and 10. MOC Floyd Valley. 10 07 to go, clock is running. Ball spotted right hash mark, wide receiver to the right, two to the left, slot to the right as well, one back. They send motion and play here. They're gonna roll to the left. Looks like it's a a keeper for Groendike, and he's gonna be smothered for a two-yard loss there, as Mickey, as well as uh Liss on uh ASOF, all three are on that uh ill-conceived play there, another two-yard loss for Van for Groendike, uh, minus 19 on the night on the ground, ball spotted at the 34-yard line of the Crusaders, second down and 12.
SPEAKER_08I think I take that play out of the playbook for the rest of the night. It's not working too well for him.
SPEAKER_05Ball spotted just inside the uh left hash mark, why one receiver to the left, double tight, high formation, definitely a running situation here as they pitch it to Miller, and he is smothered. What a job defensively by the Crusader defensive backs as they came up. That was Baker as well as trying to see if that was and Liszt. Yeah, Baker and Liszt smothering him for a four-yard loss. Uh just nothing going on that play for the Dutch. Third down now, and we'll call it 16 from their own 38 yard or from the Crusader 38 yard line. So very similar to what we saw at the end of the first half. Uh they pushed it deep into Crusader territory, and that Crusader defense has responded well. Yeah, they had uh 12 guys in a huddle there. Uh it's been kind of a uh mixture of errors here as far as getting plays in and getting the right formations in. So they're gonna lose another five, so that's gonna bring up a third down and twenty-one with eight twenty-seven to go here in the third quarter. Balls push back now to their own four to the Crusader 43 yard line.
SPEAKER_08So Yeah, the extra player didn't even try to hide it. He just he sprinted straight to the sideline. I w I think I'd have tried to line up in a formation and slowly got my way off the field.
SPEAKER_05I think he's hiding from the coach right now, though. Yeah. Empty backfield, wide receivers everywhere. Here comes a blitz. Finn Peck putting pressure on, and he's gonna go down. Finn and his group of his friends all pound down. Grondike the quarterback right at midfield. Again, a huge loss for the Dutch there. Uh they're gonna spot at the Crusader 48-yard line. So Baker, Asoff, and Lis were in their minus nine on that sack. As Grondike's uh running uh numbers continue to go into the negative. Grondike's back to punt now. JJ is back near his own 10-yard line. As JJ Hope's gonna let it bounce. Now he's gonna pick it up on the bounce, fields it near the 11. He's gonna get back up near the 19-yard line. So some positive yards there. Nice punt. Places the Crusader back inside their 20-yard line where they'll take over for their first possession of the night's third quarter. Again, tonight, our third quarter. If I can find my uh there it is. We'll hold off on that as the Crusaders come to huddle. Tonight's third quarter brought to you by our premier sponsors, Folk Brothers and Prime Bank is. Crusaders break huddle now. First and ten from their own 19. First possession of the third quarter. 722 to go here. They lead 17 to nothing. Matumbo goes in motion. Three receivers to the right, they're gonna give it to Knapp. Off the right side, Knapp breaks a tackle. He's gonna get four yards, good positive yards there on first down by Dylan Knapp. Unofficially, 10 carries, 34 yards for Mr. Knapp tonight. Second down now and six. Ball spotted at the Crusader 24-yard line. They're gonna run a little tempo here as they uh come right over the ball and try and get things going here. Trying to get a little rhythm going here right away into the third quarter. Again, they lead 17 to nothing here at Orange City. Calls a starting count. They're gonna overload. Now there's a s there's a jet sweep, and it was defended very well. Nice job breaking the tackle by the Crusader uh receiver, and uh boy, did they blow it dead?
SPEAKER_08Yeah. I I guess they figured that three healing linemen pushing him forward was enough, and let's blow the whistle.
SPEAKER_05So JJ Hope came on the speed sweep out of out of motion action there. We'll give him uh two yards on that for Hope. His first carry of the night brings up now a third down and three for the Crusaders. Ball spotted left hash mark just outside the 26-yard line, two receivers wide right. Now they're gonna shift formations. They're gonna put Wickham in the backfield and slide uh Wickcomb out of the backfield. Really a nicely conceived play as he caught it just three yards up and got good positive yards from the 26 to the 36. Really a nice little play there. You just don't expect that running back to come out of the backfield like that. Very nice. Second, just a second reception tonight for Whitcomb for 25 yards, and the Crusaders get a fresh set of downs.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, when Dillon came out here wide and took off down the field, the defenders went with him and left that wide open.
SPEAKER_05Looks like it could potentially be a two-point play later in the season. I can really like the action on that. One receiver wide right, two to the left. Now they're gonna shift. Hope goes in motion, inside handoff goes to Knapp, and he's tripped up. Nicely defended there by number uh seven Lane Pottebaum for MLC as he's gonna throw Knapp for a two-yard loss. I'll give MLC some credit on the on the defensive side. They they've really been able to keep our running attack pretty much limited tonight.
SPEAKER_08And we were lucky on that. Two men went in motion at the same time, and the officials didn't call it, but uh MLC coaches were definitely letting them know that they missed it.
SPEAKER_05Second down now and 12, right hash mark, three receivers left. And now they're gonna move Wigba to the running back position. Let's see if they try and slide him out of the backfield. That's exactly what they're trying to do, but they instead hit JJ Hope across the middle, and JJ with a great catch and push. He gets all the way to midfield, so give him 16 yards, and now we get late action there as penalty flags fly all over the place. Uh we're gonna get an unsportsman like conduct on somebody there, but first off, Hope with a 16-yard reception. That's his fourth reception now for 88 yards, and we'll kind of wait and see what the officials come up with on the penalty front there. There was some extracurriculars, and it looks like it's gonna be some unnecessary roughness, dead ball by the MOC Floyd Valley Dutchman, and that's gonna push the ball all the way near the 25-yard line of the Dutch. Ball's gonna be spotted at the 26. So first and ten Crusaders as they try and build on the 17-0 lead. 432 here to go in the third quarter. Crusaders with a fresh set of downs inside plus territory at the Dutch 34 yard line.
SPEAKER_08Good drive going here uh here in the third quarter for the Crusaders to try to build on this lead.
SPEAKER_05Three receivers wide left. Now they're gonna shift, so they're they're showing this uh action where they get one of their receivers in the backfield and flood him out, and now they're gonna get fake the handoff. Milky is going to uh keep the ball, bootleg action and uh a lot of action for two yards there, but we'll give uh Eli a couple there. Eli tonight with two touch two rushing touchdowns, one of nine yards, one of two. He's accounted for all the uh touchdowns, and uh add to that is uh add to that is a 22 yard uh Herbolt uh field goal in the first half. 337 to go here in the here's a not sure what's uh what's happening there. We've got uh looks like we're gonna get a timeout action there by the Crusaders. They didn't get the set they wanted, and uh we're gonna take a quick 30-second timeout with you with uh 329 to go here in the first half. It is or in the third quarter, excuse me, it is the Crusaders 17 and the Dutch nothing. We'll be right back.
SPEAKER_12People's Bank knows that game day is always exciting. One thing that all of our Crusader teams have learned is the importance of teamwork. That's a key success in banking too. People's Bank employees work with you to make it a team effort toward your financial goals. You can stop at our Sioux City Morningside or North Sioux City locations. Here's wishing you the best from the team at People's Bank. Go Crusaders, People's Bank, where values matter. Member FBIC.
SPEAKER_02And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_0529 to go in the quarter. Crusaders facing a second down and eight now from the Dutch 34 yard line. They're going to line up three receivers to the right. Shotgun formation. One to the left. The blitz. Quick out pass is completed there. Nicely defended by the Dutch. Crusaders are going to get five yards on that completion. Quick little out route to JJ Hope. JJ has been the man of the night here. Five catches now for 93 yards. As the Crusaders continue to push the ball down toward the goal line. Second or third down now and five. Ball spotted at the 31-yard line. Probably four down territory here for the Crusaders with under three minutes to go here in the third quarter. They lead 17-0 under Security Bank scoreboard. We've got a stoppage in action there. I think they're trying to reset the play clock. Big thanks to Catholic Charities, I'm on Communications, Barclay Asph, Modern Day Parish, R. E. Scott, and Gretkin Family ICare. They join Folk Brothers and Prime Bank as our third quarter sponsors for tonight's action. Again, the Crusaders will be back on the road next week as they'll travel to Webster City as they look try and push their season mark to 3-3 tonight. I guess the stoppage in play. We had a MLC Floyd Valley player that was down and he was able to run off the field. So everything's back in action now. Third down and five. Big third down here for the Crusaders as the clock runs. 255 to go here. Lots of shifting on the Crusader formation. Once again, they're going to move Wickham into the backfield. Three receivers to the left. That's the wide side. Whitcomb's going to come out of the backfield. He's got a little down and up, and uh ball goes incomplete. Nicely covered there by Potabom of the Dutch. It's going to bring up a fourth down and five now.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, that was that was a tough, tough throw to try to make.
SPEAKER_05Tried the little wheel route there, uh hoping that they'd buy it on Wickham coming out of the backfield, but uh really good coverage there by Lane Pottabaum, the 155-pound junior for the Dutch. Fourth down now and five. Crusaders uh trying to keep this drive alive here with uh two and a half minutes to go here in quarter number three. Three receivers to the short side, one to the left side. Here comes a blitz, picked up nicely by the Crusaders. Ball's tossed in, completed. Wagbah and wow, Wagba with breaks three, four, five tackles, touchdown. Prince Wagba from 31 yards out. My goodness, caught the ball about the 17-yard line, had to have broken about five to six different tackles, and he goes in for Pay Dirt. Crusaders 23. The Dutch nothing. Wow, what a great passing catch there. Prince Wagbaugh with the touchdown.
SPEAKER_08Well, you said it he needed to break out tonight, and uh he broke out a little bit there, five or six tackles and able to get into the end zone to make it 23 to nothing.
SPEAKER_05Give uh give the Crusader, oh, Crusaders fake the two-point or fake the kick and throw it into the corner of the end zone. And I believe they're gonna call him out of bounds as they tried to toss it up to Montumbo. He caught it, but uh he had a foot out of bounds, so the two-point conversion fails, and the Crusaders lead 23-0. That last play, Mike. What a great job picking up the blitz by Dylan Knapp.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, Dillon saved that play because uh that linebacker was on the snap coming through the line, and if Dylan hadn't picked him up, then uh it'd have been a sack for a loss.
SPEAKER_05So that touchdown happened with 231 to go here in the third quarter. Again, the 26-yard touchdown pass to Wagbaugh from Milky to Wagbaugh. And the two-point conversion failed, but the score now pushes to 23-0 Crusaders. Again, a big thanks as always to our third quarter sponsors as we keep it right here as we're waiting for the kickoff. Again, the Crusaders hit the road next week for uh Webster City. Well, the Dutch are gonna make uh a little bit shorter trip up to Humboldt as 3A District 1 action continues. Uh hard to believe it's uh the season's over halfway done, and uh we're moving uh all more and more closer to uh crunch time there and uh what might be uh hopefully will be playoff time for the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, every like we talked about at the start, every every game's important and uh got to win one at a time, and and hopefully you can get into the playoffs.
SPEAKER_05Herb olt uh kicks it, ball's fielded at the eight-yard line. This time they're gonna go straight up the the right sideline. Then Crusaders once again with great special teams play. About six different Crusaders are in on the tackle there. Ball's gonna be spotted at the 25-yard line. Nicely done there by the Crusaders. Prince Wagbaugh coming off that touchdown catch the uh leads the tackle on special teams there. Twenty-five-yard line. Again, that's something you see is a lot in 3A action and down on down where kids just don't get off the football field. Uh they're in offense, defense, special teams, they they do it all.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, absolutely. The uh the lower classes definitely have that, and and healens had to do that you know a a lot over the years. I've been watching them since 87, and it's it's a pretty consistent thing for them.
SPEAKER_05First down play is a sweep, and that is going nowhere. Uh Hudson, Klein Heslink with the uh sweep is gonna lose four yards on that as once again the Crusader defense is all over. When they go wide, Mike, the the the speed of the Crusaders is really evident, and uh it's just hard for them to make make hay with that. So four-yard loss for Klein Heslink on that brings up a second down now and fourteen.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, our line's able to string it out, and then our our safeties and and backs are able to get out there and and prevent any positive yardage.
SPEAKER_05Our deep, our our deep six, uh I tell you what, they tackle very, very well. Second down now and fourteen. Passes up in the air, completed. It's gonna be a completion of six yards for the Dutch. Nice pitch and catch there. Trying to see who made that catch for him. Waiting for him to turn around. We may not see that. Number seven, so that was Padobaum with the catch there. Again, six yards on that completion from Grondike to Padabom. 44 yards now through the air for the Dutch. Third down now and eight for the Dutch. Grondike drops back, pressure, and he's gonna go down hard. Crusaders all over him with the tackle there is Bodie Schramm, and Bodie just shot out of that linebacking spot, threw him for an eight-yard loss, and uh Bodie's kind of made his presence known here tonight. Another big loss for the quarterback unofficially now. I've got him at minus 36 yards on the night. Uh it's very likely that this uh Dutch team will not have positive rushing yards tonight.
SPEAKER_08It it sure doesn't look that way. Got uh JJ and Dillon are back.
SPEAKER_05Grondike with again another nice punt. It's gonna be fielded right at midfield. That's JJ Hope. Moves left, goes right. He's got some room. He got the corner inside the 20. 15. He's gonna be brought down near the 13-yard line. Once again, a great return by J.J. Hope. And uh sometimes wondering about the the wisdom of kicking to Mr. Hope because he can make some things happen. Great return, fielded it near midfield, took a couple steps to his left, found a wall to the right, and he's gonna get the ball all the way down to the 13-yard line. Crusaders are gonna start this possession deep in MOC territory with just eight seconds left here in quarter number three. Again, the Crusaders up on your security bank scoreboard, 23 to nothing. Yeah, that was a kind of pick your poison. Picked it kick to Dylan or kicked to JJ. So here's the Crusaders, tight formation, wide receiver to the right, one back, shotgun set. Looks like they're setting it up for Knapp to go off the right side. He cuts back, nice run by Dylan Knapp. Let's give him five, maybe six yards on that carry, and that's the carry that's gonna end tonight's third quarter with the Crusaders leading the Dutch 23 to nothing, second down now and four. When we return for our fourth quarter, it is Crusader football tonight from Orange City. You're listening once again to Catholic Radio and Crusader football, where the Crusaders lead the MLC Floyd Valley Dutch 23 to nothing after three quarters. After the 32nd spot, we'll be back to see if the Crusaders can push in yet another touchdown. We'll be right back.

SPEAKER_02And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_05As always, a big thanks to our friends at Catholic Radio. Great work, Grace Todd tonight back at the studio. I'm pleased to be joined by Mike Skaggs tonight, pitching in as uh Travis has some hockey action tonight back at back home. Uh as we get ready to start the fourth quarter, the Crusaders with a second down now and six from the nine-yard line. As they try and push in another touchdown here, they lead 23 to nothing as we start fourth quarter action. Our fourth quarter is brought to you by our premier sponsor, Central Bank. Crusaders right hash mark. They overload left side. They're going to pitch it to Dylan Knapp on the left side. Dylan dances, but he's got nothing going there. In fact, he's going to lose the yard. Again, great uh great work by the MOC Floyd Valley linebackers as they were able to cut down Knapp to a one-yard loss. It's going to bring down, bring up now a third down and seven from the ten-yard line for the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_08They're utilizing ASOF as a man in motion. I'm I'm wondering if we might see a big man touchdown at some point tonight. So here we go.
SPEAKER_05Ball left hash mark. Wagba is gonna go wide to the left. Tight slot formation to the right. In fact, two slot backs over there. Shotgun formation. Knapp sits in the backfield. Looks like they might be trying to run right up the middle with Knapp as they set that up. That was Bodie Shram. In fact, that was either Shram or Finn Peck. One of the two. That was Shram. Uh up the middle there. Bodhi gets uh two yards on that carry. And it's gonna bring up fourth down. So here to attempt the uh 26-yard field goal is Herbold. He's been perfect tonight on his attempts on PATs and field goals. Let's see if he can add to that. Snap is good, hold is good, kick is up, and it's right down the middle. Nicely done there by Mr. Herbold. He's been a nice addition to this Crusader team. Reed Herbold with the 26-yard field goal pushes that lead to 26-0 early in the fourth quarter. Again, our fourth quarter sponsors tonight include Greg and Christy Yoakum, My Jewler, Dunes Family Dental for Kids, Briar Cliff University Catholic Connection Scholarship, Greenville Pharmacy, Empirical Foods, Cybercloak Tech LLC, and Meyer Brother Funeral Homes. They joined Central Bank as our fourth quarter sponsor. 1035 to go on your Security National Bank scoreboard. It is the Crusaders 26 and the Dutch nothing. That field goal happened at the 1035 mark here of the fourth quarter.
SPEAKER_08Wow, you gotta wonder uh how the Penn State fans are feeling. They lost last week and now they're losing to Northwestern tonight, 24-7.
SPEAKER_05Wow. There was a lot of uh a lot of the uh betting professionals were saying that was kind of uh Penn State lock tonight. Uh I believe Northwestern opened up their new brand new football facility tonight.
SPEAKER_08So I saw some video and pictures of that. They did a really good job with that.
SPEAKER_05I'm sure it's an energized crowd there and Northwestern with a big win over uh Wisconsin last week. So tell you what, uh he's done a nice job. I I'm really impressed with the coaching he's done there since Fitzgerald left. So here's the Crusaders now ready to kick off. The Dutch stand back inside their own ten-yard line. Herbold kicks it deep. It's gonna bounce and be fielded at the three-yard line. The Dutch are gonna try and bring it all the way across the field, and I don't think that's gonna work. No. As uh Gavin Lusink is smothered down at the seven-yard line, and uh he just could not make it to the point of contact there.
SPEAKER_08He had to bring it this way because he didn't have any blockers on the other side of the field.
SPEAKER_05And there wasn't a lot of blockers on this side of the field, so they're gonna end up spotting it just outside the 10. So first and down, first and ten for MOC, deep in their own territory. They already trailed 26 to nothing with 10-26 to go here in your ball game. Big thanks as always to all of you who have tuned in tonight. It's great to bring you Crusader football each and every Friday night. Wide receivers to both sides, shotgun formation, quarterback drops back, drops it down, and Prince Wagbaugh is there to seal off the short gain. The pass was completed to Pat Potabom, and he's gonna lose one on that. As Prince Wagbaugh was right there to uh make the tackle. Grondike again completes that pass, just not able to accumulate much in the yardage front, just 43 yards tonight on 16 attempts for Grondike. Again, he averages over 190 yards a game through the air. So kudos to that Crusader defense.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, we've done a really good job shutting that passing attack down.
SPEAKER_05Four wide receivers out now as Grondike's gonna run the draw, and he runs the draw right into the Crusader interior part of the line. That's Aldo Gonzalez there to shut the Grundike down on no gain. So third down once again and 11 for the MLC Floyd Valley Dutch.
SPEAKER_08That healing defense is just having fun now. They can pin their ears back and just go after them and uh they're smelling blood and MLC's not enjoying it as much as we are.
SPEAKER_05No, I don't be surprised if there isn't a uh pick off here. You know, it's it's just really difficult. And well, MLC's having a hard time getting plays in on time here. They're scrambling out of the huddle five seconds, four seconds, they're barely gonna get this play off if they in fact do, and they do get it off. Groendike stepped back, throws it up in the air, and there's no one even close to that as uh once again he got pressure. Max Asoff once again is out there uh giving his condolences to the quarterback. Just a just a hard night. Uh that that that uh got intentional just is not able to got intentional grounding here on that one. Yeah, he just never got out of the pocket and threw it in no man's land. That's a loss of down and a spot foul. So the ball's gonna be spotted at the three yard line. And it's gonna be fourth down now for the Dutch, fourth and uh the first down markers at the twenty-one, so uh Groendike is gonna have to punt from deep in his own end zone, and uh the always dangerous um Mr. JJ Hope sits near his near the uh Dutch forty yard line. And man, he's got uh he's got both heels right on the end of that end zone.
SPEAKER_08It's he is right there.
SPEAKER_05Crusaders are gonna come after him and uh he gets it off. Low kick, big bounce, gonna be fielded by Hope at the 38-yard line. He goes to the left side and he's gonna be smothered down there. Nice tackle by the Dutch. That's number 44 for the Dutch. That's uh Logan Van Ravenhorst gets down there on good coverage, and uh Crusaders now are gonna take over from their own, or excuse me, from the Dutch 35-yard line. So great field position here. Crusaders with a chance to kind of put the nail in the coffin here with another touchdown if they can get it done. 841 to go here in the game. 26-0 Crusaders as they start first and ten from the Dutch 35-yard line. Tight formation, one receiver wide to the right. That's Wagbah. There's motion now. They're gonna overload the right side and give it to Knapp right up the middle, and uh now that line is starting to kind of lean on the Dutch. Knapp with a five-yard gain there. 42 yards on 14 carries tonight for Dillon. He's pretty much right on his average for the year. Second down now and fives. The Dutch try and scramble some defensive substitutes in. Crusaders were gonna go without the huddle, and now they're gonna huddle it up. Plenty of time left on the play clock, still about 17 seconds left on the play clock. 809 to go on the game clock, second down and five. Ball spotted right in the middle of the field at the 30-yard line. Tight formation Crusaders shotgun for Milky. Now they move Monsieur Matumbo to the right side. They're gonna overload that right side once again. This time uh Knapp's gonna get five yards, but they're gonna get a legal procedure call, and it's gonna bring up a second down and ten.
SPEAKER_08It's actually Riley Lowry that's out there running the ball.
SPEAKER_05Oh, is it Riley now? Good. It's good to see Riley back because coming up a little gimpy after that last run was uh Aaron Andrews is in the ball game for the Crusaders. He's gonna hobble off after that penalty now. It's gonna bring back a second down and ten from the 35-yard line of the Dutch, 749 to go left in your ballgame. Milky uh gathers up the troops in the huddle, ball spot in the middle of the field. They're gonna send uh Wickham wide to the right side, wagball wide wide to the left, eye formation. They're gonna pitch it out to Lowry. Lowry turns the corner, nice gain there, and let's give him seven yards. So it's good to see Mr. Lowry getting back in the action. He's just battled the injury bug all year. And uh Riley showed some really good things last year in some spot duty, and it's good to see him back out there. Looks like he's running pretty full speed there. Third down now and five for the Crusaders. Ball spot at the 30 of the Dutch. Probably four down territory here as the Crusaders break huddle. They're gonna stay with that eye formation. Lowry sits at the top of the eye. Up front is Moss as the fullback. Motion action is Wickham. Ball fake. They're gonna bring it back, and uh he drops it right down the middle. Metumbo with a nice catch that time. Gonna be spotted down after a 17-yard gain to the 13-yard line. So nicely executed play there. They made the play fake to Lowry, rolled to his right and threw back, and Metumble with a nice catch there. 17 yards on the catch. Unofficially, 1806 yards through the air for Milkey. There's a pitch on first down. Lowry goes wide ride. He's going to be smothered for a one-yard gain. Second down now and nine. Ball spotted at the 14-yard line of the Dutch.
SPEAKER_08Matumbo just sliding across the middle there and worked his way open and able to make that reception.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, the big thing with the Sears is this, you know, catch the ball, buddy, because boy, for a big guy. He moves really, really well, and he's a nice target. Wide receivers to each side now, high formation. There's the Gibbia Lowry on an inside trap off the left side. That closed up quickly. A one-yard game for Lowry there. It's going to bring up third down now and eight for the Crusaders. From inside the 15-yard line, they're going to mark it at the 13. 6.15 to go here in your ball game. Ball's right in the middle of the field. We'll see if the Crusaders try and stay with that running game or if they try and put in the air here and try and grab six. Crusaders break huddle. They're going to send uh both uh Wickham and Wagbaugh to the left side. Wickham lines up in the slot. Wagball outside. Here's a roll. There's a wide open receiver. It's gonna get down all the way to the one yard line. Great job by the Crusaders again. He had all kinds of options off that left side. The action trying to see who caught that ball. Moss did.
SPEAKER_08He's at Moss out of the backfield. And settled in that open area and able to make that catch and good hard run down to the two-yard line.
SPEAKER_05First and goal for the Crusaders. They hand back to Lowry. He's going to be pushed down close to the end zone. I think they might have got him in. No, they're going to mark it at the one-yard line. Nice little line surge there. Got him close, but it's second down now and goal from inside the one-yard line.
unknownThere.
SPEAKER_05Second and goal. They overload the right side. They're going to hand off on the right side, and Lowry's tripped up. Great defensive play there by Potabaum as he shot in from the defensive backfield. Got to the ankles of Lowry and held him to no gain. So third down and one. Clock continues to tick. Under five minutes to go here. Crusaders trying to add to that 26 to nothing lead. They face a third down and goal now again at the one-yard line.
SPEAKER_08Shram out there is going to set up in the backfield on this one.
SPEAKER_05I think you're going to see him hammer uh Shram in. Or he might push Milky in, one of the two here. They're going to hand it to Bodie. Bodie cuts in, goes over top. Touchdown, Bodie Schram. Took to the air and rocked it in. Good to see for the kid that uh does a lot of the blocking. Doesn't often get the uh get the love with the ball in his hands. He got the two-yard touchdown there, and that pushes the lead to 32 to nothing. Crusaders here with 422 to go in your ball game. Nice uh bounce back for the Crusaders tonight coming off that tough loss to Sioux Center last Friday back in Sioux City.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, they've got a that coaching staff's gotta feel really good about this defensive performance tonight and offensively as well, but the defense really stepped up and turned it around from last week.
SPEAKER_05Kick is up for the extra point, and it's perfect again as uh Herbolt's just been spot on with his kicking tonight, two field goals for Herbolt Herbolt and uh three successful PATs. Once again, a two-yard Bodie Shram touchdown pushes the Crusaders up 33-0, 422 to go here in your ballgame. We're going to send it back to the studio for a 30-second spot. When we come back, it'll be the Crusaders kicking off once again. You're listening to Crusader football here on Catholic Radio.

SPEAKER_05Welcome back, everyone. You're listening to the fourth quarter sponsor provided tonight by our premier sponsor, Central Bank. As the Crusaders get ready to kick off after scoring to go up 33-0, balls in the air. It's going to be fielded near the four-yard line by the Dutch. He's going to bring it up to right side. Tries to dance around. Finally is going to be brought down by the Crusaders near the 23-yard line. Big thanks to Greg and Christy Oakham, my jewelers, Dunes Family Dental for Kids, Barcliffe University Catholic Connection Scholarship, Greenville Pharmacy, Empirical Foods, Cyberclub Tech LLC, and Meyer Brother Funeral Homes. They join Central Bank as our fourth quarter sponsors. Remember that uh on the postgame show right after tonight's production, uh, we should have Coach LaFleur come up and have a few comments on the game. Uh Crusaders with a great defensive effort tonight. Here's the Dutch now, first and ten from their own twenty-three. They hand it up to middle, and uh he is uh hit very violently by Dylan Knapps there as Dillon came out of that uh that free safety position and put the lead to the uh running back for the Dutch. That was Miller with the run and uh second down now and seven. So three yards on the gain there for Miller.
SPEAKER_08I'll be curious when this is all done unofficially what uh what the total offensive yardage is gonna be for MOC. It's gotta be close to zero.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's it's just been a tough night. That's really been one of their more productive plays of the night, that that three yard gain there. Empty excuse me, one back, shotgun formation, two receivers each side. Grondike drops back, three-step drop. He's flooded out, little up and go route, and covered by Wickham, nothing there. And uh probably Grondike probably should have tucked that and ran. I think he would have got first down yardage there. Instead, he tried for the deep route. He had Van Zor Van Z, excuse me, down the right side or left side and uh threw it incomplete. So once again, incomplete, and it brings up a third down now and seven for the Dutch. 323 left in your ball game. The Crusaders up comfortably 33 to nothing here at Orange City as they look to try and even that schedule at 3-3. And the big thing for uh Coach LaFleur is we've got to get above that 500 mark, and next week they're gonna have that opportunity at Webster City. Third down now and seven. Drop back Grondike flips it out to the right side, and there's this nothing there. All over that was uh the Crusader defensive backfield, and that was uh Tommy Carroll. That was Tommy Carroll making the quick tackle there. No gain again for Van Z there. And it's gonna bring up a fourth down. Let's see if the Dutch leave that offense on the field, and they are, in fact, I believe. Though you're never quite sure when the when your quarterback's the punter, and now he's gonna drop back.
SPEAKER_08They're gonna punt it.
SPEAKER_05I think they've probably seen enough. This yards have been so hard to come by as Grondike kicks it in the air. Nobody back for the Crusader. Ball's gonna land near the 35. It's gonna bound all the way down to the uh twelve-yard line of the Crusaders. So nice kick there by Grondike. In fact, he's had several good kicks tonight for the Dutch as uh Crusaders will probably see a few new uh few new people out there for the Crusaders up 33 to nothing here, just 302 to left in your ball game. As always, a big thanks to all of you who have tuned in to tonight's coverage. Uh it's been great having Mike with me tonight. Uh I've enjoyed it. It's always always good when we get the W's.
SPEAKER_08Keep tuning in, folks, the rest of the football season and tune in basketball season and then make sure you're around for baseball. It's gonna be a great uh great year for Crusader Athletics.
SPEAKER_05It is. It's uh and and so much thanks go out to our great sponsors as well as Catholic Radio for giving us this opportunity. First and ten Crusaders now from their own 13 yard line. As uh we're seeing a new quarterback in the ballgame for the Crusaders. That's uh Saron Bridges as he spins and hands off for a short gain there for the Crusaders. That was Lowry once again. Um let's give Lowry uh one yard on that carry. Second down now and nine for the Crusaders. Clock continues to tick. 240 to go in your ball game. They're up comfortably 33 to nothing. Ball spotted at the uh 13-yard line of the Crusaders. Bridges under center, eye formation behind him, two receivers to his left. He spins, pitches out, Lowry goes on a sweep wide to the left side, gets some positive yards, we'll give him three on that carry, second or third down and seven coming up for the Crusaders as they try and ice this thing as we approach the two-minute mark. Ball spotted at the 17-yard line. Third down and six here from Moorne City. A big thanks once again to the fine people at MLC Floyd Valley for allowing us the privilege of calling the game tonight and uh great setting here. Wonderful press box. It's uh it's a great place to call a high school football game. Eye formation for the Crusaders, two receivers to the right, ball spotted on the left hash mark. Bridges under center, pitches far to his right, great cutback by Lowry. Gets the ball up near just pass the 20-yard line to the 21. We'll give him three on that carry. It's gonna bring up a fourth down now and uh two. Let's see if the Crusaders keep that offense on the field, and they are in fact gonna go for it here with just 82 seconds left in your ball game. Uh a little success there. Great cutback by uh Riley Lowry that time. Uh good to see Riley back at full speed. That's gonna that's gonna help uh give uh Dylan Knapp some breaks uh in that running game for the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, that's true. It'll give him a chance to get a breather every once in a while.
SPEAKER_05Looks like Coach LaFleur is gonna run that clock down all the way to one and take a timeout and then make his decision as to how they want to handle this fourth down. Yeah, I think you're gonna see the punting group come out. Uh I think they're you know, let's protect that goose egg there. They're they're up 33 to nothing. Uh the g the kids and the coaches, they love those shutouts and protect that here as they're gonna send the punting group on as Reed Herbolt's gonna come out and do the punting.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, that defense has earned that shutout tonight, so do everything you can to keep it.
SPEAKER_05Fifty-six seconds left in your ballgame. Crusaders 33. MLC Floyd Valley nothing. Again, the Crusaders are back on the road next week as they will travel to Webster City. Uh Webster City no score tonight as they were taking on a very good Sioux Center team. Uh they would have been uh prohibitive underdogs in that ball game tonight. So here's the Crusaders looking to snap it. Fourth and two, snaps up high. They're gonna have to fake it. Now he runs out, gets the kickoff. Nice job by Reed of handling that, and the ball's gonna be spotted near midfield. So Herbold handled that beautifully. High snap rather than take a chance on getting it blocked. He flooded out to his right and did the uh the old Aussie kick and got the ball up near midfield where the Dutch is gonna take over with 48 seconds left in your ballgame to try and put some points on the board. Again, a big thanks to our fourth quarter sponsors, Central Bank, Meyer Brother Funerholm, Cybercloak Tech LLC, Empirical Foods Foods, uh Greenville Pharmacy, Bruth University, Catholic Connection Scholarship, Dunes Family Dental for Kids, Mai Jeweler, and Greg and Krista Yochum. Here come the Dutch now, near midfield, first and ten. They spin, handoff, nothing going there. That Crusader defense continues to just bottle up the middle. As uh with the run there was Potabaum, and uh he gets, well, we'll give him one yard out of generosity. Second down now, and nine for the Dutch. Thirty seconds left. Uh they'll probably run one more play here. I think they're content with this 33 to nothing loss.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I think there's a one-second differential between the game clock and the play clock. Looks like they are gonna try to run one. I thought maybe they just let it run down and call it a night.
SPEAKER_05So Miller and Potterbaum line up in the I formation behind Groendike. Growendike turns, spins, hands off to Miller, and Miller's gonna lose two on that, and that is gonna be your final play of the ballgame as the Crusaders move their record to 3-3 on the season with a convincing 33-0 win over MLC Floyd Valley here at Orange City. Big thanks to all of you who tuned in tonight. Stay tuned for our post-game show. As always, a big thanks to uh all our great sponsors who make all this possible. When we come back, we'll have our Knights of Columbus and uh Mike and or excuse me, Tim and Lisa Swedin postgame show. Once again, your final from here at Orange City. It is the Crusaders 33 and MLC Floyd Valley Nothing. We'll be right back after a word from some of our great sponsors for our post-game show. It's been a pleasure to bring you Crusader football this fine evening. We'll be right back.

SPEAKER_02And now back to Crusader Sports on Catholic Radio 88.1, the voice of the Crusaders.
SPEAKER_05And welcome back, everyone. You're listening to our post-game show. Our postgame is brought to you by our sponsors, Knights of Columbus Agent Neil Pfeiffer, as well as Tim and Lisa Swedeen. Tonight's final score from Orange City was 33 to nothing Crusaders. Also, a big thanks to Stu Body Shop Culligans, Sioux City Sprinkler, Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, Queen of Peace, Trinity Heights, New Crib Inspection, and Sunnybrook Dennel. They are your sponsors for tonight's postgames as we await for uh Coach LaFleur to uh address his team and then he'll come up and talk to us a little bit. Um got a nice message from Bill Burrows. Thanks, Bill, for reaching out. Uh the uh girls' tennis team will play in Spencer tomorrow for a trip to state. So good luck to uh the girls' tennis team as they move on to play Spencer for a trip to bring the uh girls very successful girls tennis team to the state tennis tournament. Again, the boys uh golf team will be in action on Monday as they uh attempt to make it to state with a very uh loaded district in Lamar's. Again, your final here from Orange City, 33-0 Crusaders. Uh Mike really just uh just a dominant defensive ball game, a lot of short field touchdowns and scores for the Crusaders. Uh it was really defense that set the tempo for tonight.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, it really was. They uh never never really gave the MOC quarterback a chance to get settled in and and get his feet set and be able to throw the ball. I mean, he's averaging close to 200 yards a game, and uh we held him to probably a fifth of that if if even that. So uh great performance by that defense, and uh the coaching staff's got to be pleased after last week not being able to make any stops and when they needed them, and uh offense putting 33 on the board is is huge too. It's it's a good foundation and and way to build for the rest of the season.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, unofficially, I've got uh the Crusaders with 257 yards of total offense, 196 through the air, 61 on the ground. For MOC, just a tough night. Six yards on 23 carries on the rushing side, 43 yards through the air, 49 total yards. Again, these are unofficial numbers, but uh tell you what, when you can dominate the line of scrimmage and have the kind of speed around the perimeter that the Crusaders do have on that defensive side, uh it's a nice recipe for a shutout. And they in fact they got it tonight, a good bounce back for the Crusader defense after giving up 32 points last week to a very good Sioux Center team. So we move forward to next week as the Crusaders will travel to travel to Webster City. And uh again, uh you get the feeling that every night's gonna be one of those mess must-win situations, and uh that'll certainly be the case. A long road trip, those are never easy, but uh I'm sure Coach LaFleur and his fine staff will get the kids ready to go. As I believe John's trying to make his way up here, it's a long climb up to the uh up to the perch here at uh little easier climb to make when you win. Absolutely at co corridor field. So we're gonna be joined here in just a second by uh John LaFleur after a nice bounce back win, uh 33 to nothing. Uh coach, first and foremost, uh really kudos to a great defensive performance tonight. Uh unofficially I had them for about 49 yards, and that might have been generous.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, the kids uh happy with the way they play defensively for sure. Did a few little different things in there, got some different guys up, and uh I think we played well offensively, not bad. Um, but we need you know, we need to get better every week, and I think we're getting there, but we've got to get better.
SPEAKER_05Well, you know, Trison Trison Grondike is a nice quarterback. I mean, he came into the game averaging over 190 yards a game, and you guys just gave him zero time to throw the ball, and when he was able to complete anything, if there were this short out routes, which kind of falls right into your hands. You're your secondary tackle so well. I mean, not only do they cover well, but boy, there's really sure tacklers.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I thought uh we we've focused on that pretty heavily uh all through the season. Uh obviously we got some really talented kids on the perimeter out there, and uh, you know, just they executed, did what they were supposed to do.
SPEAKER_05So and your kids are kind of in that situation where uh you get the feeling it's almost must win each and every week, and uh it's great to see when your kids have that that they they bounce back with the positivity of a night, especially when you you know turn the ball over two of your first four plays. Uh, you know, it's easy to get the dauber down and maybe not perform up to your level, but uh I thought Milky really responded well after that. And a couple of nice wrinkles, uh moving some of your wideouts into the backfield and putting the pressure on their linebackers to cover them out of the backfield is a nice wrinkle offensively.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that that that that definitely presents a problem for defenses and uh you know if we can get JJ or Grant or Prince or whoever that is coming out of the back ring or a little swing, that's uh that's difficult, you know. Um I thought, you know, uh we wanted to start fast and I think maybe they thought fast for them. I don't know, but you know, we'd you don't want to turn the ball over twice. Um but yeah, like you said, we responded. I thought they played well um in spite of giving the ball away twice. And kudos to the defense to stop them, you know, when you give the ball away twice like that, um and you know, kind of answer the call. So that's what we're that's what we did and uh happy with it and you know, just uh looking forward to Webster City, you know.
SPEAKER_05Well it's good to see Riley Lowry out there, look like he's a little more full speed and you know, give give you a chance to maybe give Dylan Knapp some breaks there. Dylan goes pretty hard on both sides of the ball. Yeah, he does. And and Riley can do some really nice things around the perimeter.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, Riley went in there, I thought ran really well. He ran hard and got downhill, and that's what we you know, we need to do that. We're not maybe necessarily moving the people up front like we want to, and we and we'll work with that. But uh, you know, some of it is on our our backs as well as be able to put the foot in the ground and get downhill. I think Riley did a nice job. Dylan does has been doing well. Dylan's learning some patience really uh as far as running the ball and kind of let things develop, and it it's it's been nice to see that happen. You know, we we don't have a guy that's ran a ball a lot and uh up until this year, obviously, and I think those guys are getting better every week, and that's that's all we can count on.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's it's kind of impressive those jump cuts he makes, you know, when he gets into the secondary, and he's you know he's ran for tough yards this year. It hasn't been easy going for him. So what do we know about Webster City as we look ahead to next week and put this in the rear view mirror?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it's the old single wing. Uh it'll be ugly grinded out on grass, probably mud football, and uh they're gonna run it and run it and run it and then run it some more. And uh, you know, they're uh it's it's very difficult to stop, a lot of a lot of moving parts in the backfield, a lot of deception. We're gonna have to play execute and uh play assignment football. If we can do that, we'll have a chance. But uh we we just you know we're gonna work on through the course of the week work on us getting better and just uh simple things like blocking and tackling and execute.
SPEAKER_05And kind of the kind of an un unsung hero Reed Herbold has just done such a great job kicking.
SPEAKER_06I can't tell I can't tell you how happy I am to have Reed there. You know, it's it's it's almost automatic if we get in within about a thirty five to forty yard field goal, he's just on. And his kickoffs have been outstanding. We're we're we're kind of letting him uh or or dictating where we want to kick the ball and what he puts it right. Right there every time. So it's uh you know uh it it's been nice. It it's helped our kick return or our kickoff coverage a lot, I think, with his execution. And uh yeah, he's he's outstanding. The kid puts a ton of work in too. Really proud of him.
SPEAKER_05Well the you know, the field goals were tough and you know they were shorter field goals, but tough angles, and I tell you, he's split the uprights on everything tonight. He's he's solid. He's solid. It's good to see him at Tumbo catch that ball over the middle and hold on to it, and tell you what, he's a weapon when he gets it when he gets it in his hands.
SPEAKER_06He's you know, he's big and he's strong and fast and all of the above, and if we can just continue to kind of you know gain a little bit of peace of the offense with him, I think we become even more diversified and and tougher to stop.
SPEAKER_05Well, John, a nice nice bounce back win, and uh, you know, it's kudos to the kids for you know it's always big when you can put that goose egg up and kudos to that defense and your staff. Great job preparing the kids and uh moving forward to a whole new uh you've seen a lot of passing here in the last few weeks. This is gonna be a little different.
SPEAKER_06It'll be uh it'll be ugly. Probably a quick game, but that's okay. And hopefully as long as we end up on the right side of the scoreboard, we'll be happy.
SPEAKER_05It's a quick game with a long trip. So that's right, that's right.
SPEAKER_06So uh, you know, that and that'll be a challenge too. We haven't done it necessarily our first out of town trip, and then we gotta go back to back weeks with uh you know a two and a half hour, two hundred and four forty-five minute road trip. It's it's something new, and we'll see how these guys respond to it. And uh I know they'll be well coached over there. Coach Howard is uh still around the old uh war horse that he is, and his son-in-law is over there now as the head coach. And uh it you know, they'll play tough and physical, and we're gonna have to bring that same amount of physicality.
SPEAKER_05As always, John, thanks for coming up and go hawks tomorrow. Big game there.
SPEAKER_06You bet, you bet. We'll uh we'll see if we can get as lucky as we got last week because uh we were lucky, but uh you know, now at least we're at home, I guess.
SPEAKER_05So preparation builds luck, my friends.
SPEAKER_06That's true, that's true, and luck still helps.
SPEAKER_05All right, congratulations, John, always, and thanks thanks for coming up, my friend.
SPEAKER_06You bet, thank you.
SPEAKER_05That's John LaFleur uh on the on the uh tail end of a 33-0 Crusader victory tonight to move the Crusader record to 33-0. Once again, uh shout out to our post-game sponsors. They have been Knights Columbus agent Neil Pfeiffer, as well as Tim and Lisa Swedeen, Sue Body Shop, Culligan, Sioux City Sprinkler, Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, Queen of Peace, Trinity Heights, New Crib Inspection, and Sunny Book Dental. Well, Michael, it's great having you aboard tonight. Uh good luck, charm. Big win for the Crusaders, move to three and three.
SPEAKER_08I enjoyed it. I was uh told the family I was a little nervous coming into this. They said, Don't worry about it. No one no one cares what you have to say anyway. So uh I appreciate it. I appreciate uh Tim and and Ann back at the studio giving uh I know we talked a lot about it during baseball, but just giving me the opportunity to be be able on the radio and be a part of of Catholic Radio and bring these games to uh to the Healing family and and Catholic Radio does so many great things and if you know it doesn't doesn't take a whole lot to support it. I mean, you know, anything you can you can do to to support it and give them a chance to expand their outreach is is very important and uh looking forward to uh possibly doing some more games down the road and then uh definitely baseball season when it rolls around.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely. Well, we love making the call. It's uh it's awesome that Catholic Radio and our great sponsors allow us this privilege. So for uh Grace back at the studio once again, Grace, outstanding work. Uh we're so appreciative of everything you do there, as well as the great people at Catholic Radio from IceGegs. I'm Bob Gary. Have a great weekend, everybody. Uh be safe. Enjoy the sunshine after a well deserved bout of rain, and uh until next week when we head to Webster City. Good night, everyone.
