Catch up with us this week as we discuss the Knicks’ historic win and poke fun at men’s emotional attachment to sports. Then, we dive deep into our hottest takes from the Summer House Part 3 reunion and review Episodes 1–4 of In the City... Finally, we break down Not Suitable for Work, Mindy Kaling's newest series on Hulu, and share our predictions for the rest of the season.

Julia

Hey, petty viewers. This is Julia and Sarah. And we're here today to talk about some petty things, but also we're going to discuss Mindy Killing's new show, and we're going to talk about the reality TV show that everyone's talking about. Summerhouse.

Sarah

Summer House, yes. We're going to wrap up Summer House. Um, but let's talk about what's been going on in our lives first. First of all, what coffee are you drinking today?

Julia

Well, I am drinking this banana ice latte. I'm such a fiend for this coffee shop. It's called Early Bird. You you love a banana. I love a banana. I love a blueberry.

Sarah

I love funky flavors. I keep it pretty basic. I'm just caramel ice latte. Usually I do hazelnut. What coffee shop? Casablanca, you know. This one here in Wilmington.

Julia

So Sarah lives next to this amazing coffee shop called Casablanca, where they've shot the Summer I Turn Pretty.

Sarah

Summer I Turn Pretty is filming their movie right now in Wilmington. My friend just saw the two moms in the bakery shop, and she was like, Oh, aren't you dead? Like the mom. Well, obviously, like the actress is alive. Maybe that's like a giveaway for the movie that she's gonna be in the movie. Well, like she probably is gonna come back as a ghost.

Julia

As a ghost? I guess they'll just do flashbacks, maybe. I don't know. Moving forward, we like to thank everyone actually for listening to our first podcast, Batch from Hell.

Sarah

I was so happy to see everyone who supported us. I was surprised, like a lot of our friends and family listened. So thanks everyone.

Julia

And then uh the Knicks won. So, you know, I'm in New York and we we're celebrating our win. This is like the most hype New Yorkers have been, I feel like, in a while. I went to the city for the last game, the game that they wanted. Was it crazy? It was insane. You know, now I'm just representing New York, and people might call it me being on the bandwagon, but who cares?

Sarah

It brought everyone together. We need something to all come together and be excited about.

Julia

I do have to say in the Knicks, like they were playing this man named Wembea. Can't say his name. Wembi. Wem Wembi. His name is Wembi. And when they won, I think everyone in the Knicks was like, fuck Wembi.

Sarah

I think that they call him that as a nickname, right? His full last name is like Wemba Nayama. No, no, it's it's just Wem, it's Wembi.

Julia

It's it's definitely Wembi. I googled it and it's longer than that. Well, I think the Y and the A are silent. I do have to talk to you about Josh's love for the Knicks. The men are happy. The men are happy. So, Josh, my husband, he is the most nonchalant person you'll ever meet. I love him, but he's very stoic. Do you know the the day before my wedding, there was an earthquake. Stoic, like nonchalant, very calm. The morning of my wedding, I got a message saying we we have pictures of Julia sleeping with a man named Justin. And I'm panicking because I'm like, this No, no, no.

Sarah

Not just you got the message. Multiple people got this spam message, and I'm panicking. Maybe we need to do an episode on like all the things that happened leading up to your wedding, because it's honestly iconic.

Julia

It's so iconic. Though I was panicking, I remember calling you that morning and I'm like, Sarah, did you see this? Josh is gonna panic. And I called Josh Ross was like, turn off your phone, don't listen to it. Nonchalant. When I walked down the aisle, he actually was laughing a little bit at that because my mom almost ate shit. Also, nonchalant. When the Knicks won, I swear to God, I think I think a tear almost fell down his face. He was smiling with joy. He was so happy. He was like 33 years. I've been a loyal fan for 33 years. Yeah, when he was born. When he was born, now they've finally won. He's like planning to go to the parade at 4 a.m.

Sarah

Like, no, like they get so excited for sport. They credit themselves. I know deep down Mark is the same way because Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup. I know hockey's not as popular, but he's obsessed with hockey. So both our fans are happy right now, and we're gonna hold it over their head. If they're in a bad mood, we're gonna be like, Aren't you happy? Aren't you happy this week? Shouldn't you be doing the dishes?

Julia

You must be elated.

Sarah

But have you seen the coach of their team? No, I don't know their coach. Okay, I'll show you a picture, but his name is Rod the Bod. Rod the Bod? Yeah, he used to be like a player back in the day. He's got a nice bod. That's the only thing I know about that team. I'm looking this up right now.

Julia

Show you me a picture of a man with scoliosis. No, I can't. He looks good for being like an older gentleman. I don't know what they do in hockey, but everyone looks ripped. I know. Um, anyways, what's what's been up with you, girl?

Sarah

I just wanted to say happy pride to everyone. It's June, it's Pride Month. Happy Pride to all the baddies. And if you're homophobic, I hope you're miserable this month. And ever. Okay, I'm gonna start with Summer House. So we just had reunion part three wrap up, and it was just confirmed that West will not be returning to the Summer House this next season.

Julia

Yes.

Sarah

Are you happy about that?

Julia

Yeah, I kind of am. He's kind of a little fuckboy, and I feel like does he even have a job?

Sarah

He has a podcast, and it's like a sports podcast with this girl that we all refer to as like MAGA Barbie. What? Yeah. Julia, okay, Julia doesn't know all the deep lore on Summerhouse. I unfortunately know all these details, so she's being brought up to speed. We've got her watching in the city, so she's gonna be in the know, but in terms of all the deep lore, I will be your expert there on Summerhouse. Um, so yeah, Wes is not returning. I think we're all happy about that. No one wants to see him on our screens anymore. It was pretty obvious that he was gonna get fired because on his podcast, he said, I hope the next go go to game six so that it's airing during the next episode so no one watches. And I was like, he's getting fired. Because that's pretty ballsy to say. Like, the network is not gonna be happy with you if you're basically promoting people to not watch your show. Yeah.

Julia

Yeah. Yeah, the network is definitely gonna fire him, but like what episode is he referring to, like in the city, right?

Sarah

So no, so now they're uh releasing an a bonus episode after the reunion. So I'll talk about that next week. That's big news there. I would have predicted that. The big thing that stood out to me in part three of the reunion was when Wes said that he started developing feelings for Amanda when he saw her super happy and glowing after she broke up with Kyle, and he basically like took credit for that. I feel like that's such a weird that makes it seem like he is like into himself. I don't know. He's just very narcissistic, and I feel like he's an energy vampire. He attaches himself to people who have that's how I see him, because he did the same thing to Sierra when he first came into the summer house, he attached himself to Sierra because she was like had a great aura, and now he tried to do the same thing with Amanda.

Julia

During the summer house season, I did see clips of Wes being really touchy-feely with Amanda, and I even though her and Kyle were still dating, and I feel like if I saw that on TV and we were on the cusp of a divorce or we were working through our things, I would be like, Oh, so this has been kind of going on for a while. I I feel like it didn't just happen post-school. I feel like there's been certain like things going on that we don't know.

Sarah

It's been it's been building for a while. They definitely had at least an emotional affair at the very least. He was inappropriate with her, the way that he would touch her. It was weird. I mean, the whole cast is kind of like incestuous in that way.

Julia

Yeah, it's like being in a college dorm.

Sarah

Yeah, like they all they're all very touchy-feely inappropriate, but obviously things were going on way before they announced their divorce this January, especially since then they were all of a sudden serious, yeah, starting in February. Like that doesn't happen in just a couple weeks. But I what I really wanted to talk about about this whole thing is how race plays into this whole situation. A lot of black women, including Sierra, have talked about their experience, how they're often seen and tokenized by men. You know, they're fetishized, they're seen as a conquest, but they're not actually viewed as a serious long-term partner. And that's basically exactly what happened to Sierra, if you look at how Wes treated her and also Jesse. This past season, Jesse was making jokes about wanting to hook up with Sierra, and he was, yeah, he was like, Oh, I would do it as a joke, and it really hurt her feelings. And she pointed out to him, like, hey, like, I'm not a joke, I'm not some object. If you actually wanted to date me, take me on a date. Yeah, that's really weird. It's weird, and they tokenize her. She's like currently one of only two black women on the show. She was the first black woman on this cast, so she's had to pave the way and have a lot of these tough conversations. And she talked about how ever since she's been on the show, she's faced a lot of criticism for dating white men, and she's been very careful about how she moves in everything with West. She doesn't want to be embarrassed, which is exactly what happened in the end. So after West comes back into her life at the end of this season, he repeatedly kept saying, you know, I don't want to be monogamous, I don't want to be in a relationship. That's not something I want right now in my life. And now that he's with Amanda on this past episode of the reunion, he said, Oh, we're monogamous, we're together. And it feels like he has this level of respect for Amanda that he did he never had for Sierra.

Julia

Okay, first of all, I think he's like a troll. I think he's not cute, and she's of a goddess, she's stunning, she's gorgeous, and then Amanda is also beautiful, and that's a hard compliment for me to give. I don't really like her, but she is beautiful, beautiful and insecure. And it's just crazy that he's getting these women, and I'm like, what does he have?

Sarah

We don't know because his nudes leaked, and apparently his dick is very small. That's sad.

Julia

Like, you can't even digmatize me. Are you kidding? So yeah, we don't we don't know. It's always these like white men that are just like cute. You're calling him Midwest. See, he is from the Midwest, yeah. Oh, so he don't even got family money like that.

Sarah

No, I think he's just charismatic. He's like a very typical narcissist where he comes across as charismatic and he convinces you he cares about you and he makes you feel special. And that's how he like pulls people in. Yeah, it's really gross. I don't like that. I don't like him. Yeah, so I'm happy he's getting fired. So, Amanda, she's not the victim in this. I will say I am a little concerned by how it feels like he's isolating her now that they're dating, like he's isolating her from all her friends. She and him, I don't know if you saw the clips, but they look like zannie'd out in the reunion. Did you see? Whatever they're on, they're on a really high dose of it. Yeah. While I also completely hold her accountable for her actions, I feel like things are not going great there for her mentally. And I don't like that he seems to be isolating her. Um, not great. But yeah, Amanda, she chose less over her friendship with Sierra. She chose to be with a man that she knows treated her friend badly. So what does she think? That she's the exception, that she you know what I mean. That's stating that she thinks she's gonna be treated differently than Sierra.

Julia

I definitely feel like part of it is yes, post post-divorce is hard and it's a really hard place to be mentally. But I also felt like she was done with this relationship from the beginning of the season, a long time ago. I feel like she was done.

Sarah

Yeah, because first of all, you can tell with the timing of it. I think they were dragging it on so that it could unfold on in the city. Because as you see them transition to in the city, she's already moving out, she's already got a place lined up. I think everyone thinks that you can tell they're so done with each other.

Julia

They are. Do you remember that one episode of In the City where they go on a date? And I'm like, this just seems like me going on a date with a friend.

Sarah

Yeah. They both ask each other if they're still in love. And it's like so awkward. Yeah, you can tell it's forced at this point. Who do they think they're fooling?

Julia

Yeah.

Sarah

We're not dumb.

Julia

And I also don't feel like Kyle, I can't really see Kyle with anyone. Is that is that mean to say? Like, I just don't think I can see him with anyone.

Sarah

He almost feels like he's just a TV personality. Like he's not a real person. He's just, I think they're both obviously better off not together, but we know that they broke up a long time ago. We're not stupid. And then the other thing I wanted to say was I felt like Andy did not do a good job in these reunions. He didn't ask the right questions. They were focused so much on pinning down the timeline of when things started between Wes and Amanda. Yeah, that's interesting and salacious if there was overlap with Kyle. But to me, it doesn't matter. Even if it was years from now, I still think it's fucked up what they did. Even if it was years from now that she was, you know, broken up with Kyle. Yeah. And years from Sierra and West hooking up, you still don't go after your friend's ex.

Julia

What bothers me about Andy is that he never asks like hard-hitting questions. Sierra was like, Well, you wouldn't do this to your other friends. Yeah. And then Amanda was like, You're right.

Sarah

He babied Amanda and West. He always treats men so differently, too. He will not go hard on the men. I've seen him go hard on women, other housewives, and reunions, and he did not go hard at all at them. And honestly, Lindsay is coming for his job. Did you hear when Lindsay was like, I don't think we learned anything? I didn't learn any new information. And he looked pissed.

Julia

He was like, Should we start over? Lindsay Hubbard is always the biggest shit starter, but also funny at the same time.

Sarah

Yeah, I like her.

Julia

I've grown to like her.

Sarah

I think she's a great reality TV star. She is. She's she makes her a great reality TV star. Okay, so transition to in the city. In the city is mostly centered around Lindsay, I would say. It's Lindsay and her friends. And she's giving major Samantha Jones from Sex in the City vibes. I was thinking that exact thing, and then her date said that to her. Really?

Julia

The Dustin guy?

Sarah

No, not Dustin. Frank. Okay, Dustin is is grossing me out. Do you like him? I think he's a big thing. Dustin is the country star, right?

Julia

Yeah, I don't really like country for her. I cannot see her with a country star. And the fact that she's so into him, I'm like, ew, girl, you could do so much better. He kind of looks like a murderer. It looks like he owns farms and he kills people on those farms. I don't know. He does some crazy shit. That's what I'm saying. I just don't understand. That unless Frank Frank is the milk guy, right? Yeah, yeah, the milkman. He looks like he could kill someone, but like in a sexy way, in a mobster way.

Sarah

He seems more worth it to have a fling with. She said that they didn't have a good banter. But do you need to talk much? You don't have to talk much about something up. No, you don't. What's her relationship status like there? I don't understand. She's single. Her thing is she was engaged to Carl from Summer House, and they had this big falling out right before their wedding where they canceled the wedding. And then shortly after she was with this guy, Turner, who is, I think he's a finance guy, like really well off. And she got pregnant really quickly into the relationship. And then they broke up pretty much once she had the baby. So she's a Melf now. They never got married. No, they never even moved in together or anything. I'm happy for her. She really wanted to have a kid. So she feels like you know that's something she doesn't have to worry about or feel pressured timeline-wise. But yeah, that was kind of the quick thing, also. I love her mom friends. The mom friends are the funniest.

Julia

My favorite so far is Georgina the Derm. Georgina the Derm is really funny and very approachable. There's this one guy. Who is who is the guy that owns the bar? Gavin. Gavin. And so Gavin was talking to Georgina, and I think he was like flirting with her. And then she was like, kids are a mess. And she just kept talking about her kids and how hard it is. And she wasn't even realizing that he was flirting with her.

Sarah

Gavin, also, I think he was flirting with Lindsay too at one point. I think he tries to go for all these women, and they're just not even not even giving him the time of dive. So Petty Queen highlight Lindsay when she pulled out the list in her phone of everything that Danielle has done to her over the years. So to give you a little backstory, Danielle used to be on Summer House and they were best friends. But she was the kind of friend that would always make these passive-aggressive comments and say things where it seemed like she was jealous or judgmental. And so I think over the years, Lindsay just got tired of her shit. And I'm on her side about that. I agree. Danielle's kind of a hater. So she brought up on the list all of the things that Danielle has done to her over 10 years.

Julia

I loved that. When I watched that, I felt like Danielle was like, that's my best friend. And Lindsay was like, no, I don't really fuck with her.

Sarah

She's over her. She was over her at Danielle. And Lindsay's dynamic has always been that Lindsay is the queen and Danielle's her friend. And she's kind of a little jealous of her. And Danielle needs Lindsay to be on these shows. So I think coming into In the City, Danielle's like, that's my friend, and willing to apologize because she wants to be on the In the City. Let's talk about Whitney and Kenny. So Whitney's from The Bachelor. I don't really remember her. She's living in New York now with her boyfriend Kenny. Kenny is definitely the villain of the season. Immediate ick from him when he was like to Lindsay. I'm getting I hate men vibes. Gross. I feel like he listens to Andrew Tate or something.

Julia

Probably. I I I don't really like Kenny. And I actually knew Whitney before she was on the show because she's a social media influencer. You followed her? I followed her, and there's that entire girl group out in like LA with Sammy Clark, like all these influencers that work out and are really holistic.

Sarah

So she's giving up her whole livelihood to move to New York with him. And the whole conflict with them this season is that Kenny is going around to his friends saying, I don't know if I really feel the spark. And then once she confronts him on it, he basically is just saying that they twisted his words or that they're just trying to spread gossip. And I feel so bad for her. I feel like I really want to see her arc be her becoming more confident and standing up for herself. Because as of now, she's still completely defending him, even though he's disrespecting their relationship to her face and to her friends. Yeah. It's embarrassing.

Julia

It's sad, and I feel like maybe she is a little bit Lululu in terms of being like, oh, we gotta give him some space because his mom died, so he's not ready to propose yet. She's kind of giving traditional like trad wife. Yeah. I want her to just leave Kenny and start her own thing and be her own person without associating herself with a man. I hope that's her character arc eventually.

Sarah

Right now she's this tiny little little deer. But don't worry, Lindsay's got him. She's not afraid of this shit. She knows how to handle men like this. Do you know Andrea? Well, I don't know Andrea. Okay, so Andrea, his first season, he was on Winter House. He came on, and Paige was single at the time, and they had like a little romance. This was while she was still just first talking to Craig. And in another universe, Andrea and Paige are together. Really? Yeah. They were really cute together, and he would bring her coffee in the morning, and he loved her. And they're both so good looking. Paige is so beautiful. He's happily married now, but yeah, in another universe, they ended up together. You have to watch that, those episodes. It was really cute when he was like going for her. But she was dating Craig. I know, that's what I'm saying. If Craig didn't come in and fuck it up, they would have been together. I think overall I'm really liking this show because it's a lot better than a lot of other Bravo shows because it's in New York City and people are fashionable. They're in a cute spot. Yeah, it's great so far. I wasn't gonna watch, but you convinced me. I'm glad you're jumping on the Summer House in the City bandwagon and you can get to know all these characters.

Julia

We were gonna talk about Mindy Kaling's new show, Not Suitable for Work, which Mindy, if you're watching this, I will be on your next season of whatever you're doing. That is like my goal in life is to be a Mindy Kaling show because I feel like I am Mindy Kaling. Yeah, it feels like she's writing these characters about you. Yeah, exactly. So Not Suitable for Work is about friends living in the city. It's kind of like modern-day friends. You have the three roommates that live across, which are the guys that you have Kel, you have Josh, and Davis. I think Kel is really cute. Kel is really cute. Kel was on White Lotus. Oh, he was? Oh, was he the son? Yeah, he was the son. Do you remember? I just realized that. I know. I forget. I forget. And then Davis has this little Instagram, TikTok account where he does like funny videos. And then across the hall is Abby, played by Ivantica, and AJ, played by Ella Hunt. And they all have really good storylines. Um, you have Cal who was in med school and dropped out after like the second day is done. And then you have Josh who is a Nepo baby but is white savior complex. And Yes. He's annoying. He's annoying. He's like the typical like we went to school with those people. Do you remember? And they'd be like, Well, that's socially incorrect. And I'd be like, fuck you. You're white. Like, no offense, Sarah. No offense.

Sarah

I'm not offended. He's just constantly virtue signaling. Remember in his interview, he was like, and we're on Lenampe land. But then he had to use his dad to get the job.

Julia

Yes. It's white guilt. It's white guilt. And then you have Davis, who is like every finance guy that I dated in my early 20s.

Sarah

He is funny though. He's growing on me a little bit. At first, I thought he was just gonna be the bro and annoying, but he's he's becoming endearing to me because I feel like he's trying really hard. So he has a crush on Ella, but Ella has like her boss, which is played by Jay Ellis, who I'm a huge Jay Ellis fan.

Julia

If you guys haven't watched him in Insecure, you need to watch him on Insecure. He's just an amazing actor. I guess Minnie just knows to cast him as the love interest. Yeah. Because he is very good looking. He's your hall pass, right? He's my hall pass. I tell George that all the time. I'm like, just so you know, this guy's my hall pass if I ever see him. Another example of you being just like Minnie Kalin. It's so crazy. He's crazy. Minus the fact that BJ Noviak is not my baby daddy. But yeah, the story is like modern-day friends. You have Abby, who is played by Ivantica, who is this fashion designer, stylist, girly pop.

Sarah

Her storyline so far has mostly been that she's crushing on her actor client that she's styling, which has been cute. But I feel like so far in the first four episodes, we haven't seen too much from her. And then you have AJ.

Julia

She works in finance and she has a crush on her boss, which I feel like AJ is going to end up with Josh. Because in the first episode, spoiler alert, they were each other's first. And I feel like they constantly have moments where they're clicking.

Sarah

But also Davis likes her.

Julia

Yeah. I don't think they'll end up together.

Sarah

Other than the fact that brewing romance between AJ and her boss, she kind of bothers me. But spoiler alert, at the end of the fourth episode, they kiss. Yeah. I thought, I mean, it might be toxic of me, but I was into it.

Julia

I was rooting for it, but I definitely feel like someone's gonna get fired and it's not gonna be her.

Sarah

Can we talk about the um scene where she was having the dinner party? That was really funny.

Julia

And he kept eating oysters because he loved her so much or whatever.

Sarah

Yeah, so they she was having a dinner party to try to impress her boss. Uh-huh. And both both Davis and Kel thought that they were being invited over, you know, as dates. So Kel, I think the point is that he also has a crush on um on Abby, but they haven't really leaned into that too much yet. So they both think they're being invited over for romantic reasons, but she's really just trying to impress her boss. They don't give a shit about them. And Davis keeps eating shellfish, even though he's so allergic. He's literally dying, he's sweating, bringing out in hives, stabbing himself with an epip. And then the boss at the end shows up and the driver's like, is this the right building? And he's like, Yeah, no, I'm just gonna leave. That was so funny. I liked that.

Julia

Medicilling shows. She does a really good job bringing all these characters together and still having them have their own storyline.

Sarah

I really like the premise so far. I think that we're starting to see more shows of like young adult age instead of like high school, where they're in their 20s, figuring out their careers, their relationships, their jobs. Like, give me more of that. My main criticism is why do they always have such nice apartments? Their apartment is very unrealistic.

Julia

They would be living in like a shithole. Yeah, a shithole in Astoria, and like they have no bugs, no lass.

Sarah

It's okay. The the characters are cute. We're liking how it's set up. I think the jokes are really good. It feels like it's it's relevant and modern. It's not trying too hard. So next week we'll try to catch you up on episode five of In the City and not suitable for work. And we'll dive more into the details of that. But we're really liking the setup so far for both shows. Next week is also the reunion for Real Houses of Rhode Island. So we'll touch on how we feel about season one of Real Houses of Rhode Island. I think it was a pretty good, strong first season. Excited for that reunion. We'll have fun at the Knicks parade this week.

Julia

Yes,

Sarah

Oh my god. Remember this week to stay petty, stay petty and be assertive.

Julia

That's our new motto.

Sarah

Yes, love you guys. Love you.

Julia

Bye.
