John Merrill Kirkman shares a powerful reminder for anyone who feels like they’re falling short spiritually, emotionally, or personally. Drawing from the teachings of Elder Jeffrey R. Holland and Ether 12:27, this episode explains that God doesn’t expect perfection before we come to Him—He asks us to come as we are. Instead of seeing yourself as a failure, this message encourages you to see yourself as someone who is growing, learning, and becoming through the help of Jesus Christ. You are not failing—you are becoming.

You are not falling short. You are becoming. This is John Merrill Kirkman with Walking with the Savior Podcast daily episode. Elder Jeffrey R. Holland taught, quote, around the church I hear many who struggle with this issue. I'm just not good enough. I fall so far short. I will never measure up. As children of God, we should not demean or vilify ourselves. No. End of quote. That message hits deep because so many people quietly carry those thoughts. But here's the truth: those thoughts don't come from God. God doesn't motivate through shame, he invites through love. In the scriptures, the Savior teaches in Ether 12 27 If men come unto me, I will show unto them their weakness. Then will I make weak things become strong unto them. Notice what he doesn't say. He doesn't say, fix yourself first, then come to me. He says, Come to me with your weakness, and I will help you grow. A positive mindset in a gospel sense isn't pretending you're perfect. It's remembering that you are in progress with divine help. His help, Jesus' help. When you catch yourself thinking, I'm not enough, replace it with the truth. I'm a child of God, I'm learning, I'm growing. Christ is helping me. That shift matters because the way you see yourself affects how you approach God. If you see yourself as a failure, you'll pull away. But if you see yourself as a son or daughter who is learning, you'll keep coming back to him. And that's the goal. Not perfection today, but connection with the Savior every day. So don't beat yourself up trying to become better. Walk with Christ and let him make you better.
