John Merrill Kirkman shares a powerful message about fear, faith, and becoming stronger through Jesus Christ. Fear may tell you to stop, shrink back, or believe you’re not enough—but scripture teaches that God gives power, love, and courage, not fear. Using examples from David and Goliath, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Philippians 4:13, this episode reminds listeners that courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s moving forward with Christ beside you anyway. The growth you’re looking for may be on the other side of the thing you’re most afraid to face.

Fear, the great enemy. This is John Merrill Kirkman with Walking with the Savior Podcast Daily Episode. Fear shows up in all of our lives. Sometimes it whispers, you're not ready. Other times it shouts, This is too much. And if we're honest, there are moments when fear feels overwhelming. Like what Eleanor Roosevelt described as facing something that feels like an impossibility. But over time, she discovered something powerful. Every time you face fear and live through it, you become freer than you were before. The scriptures teach this same pattern. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1 7. Fear doesn't come from God, but strength does. Think about David standing before Goliath. He didn't wait until he felt fearless. He moved forward while feeling afraid, trusting that God would help him. And because he stepped forward, he discovered something he couldn't have learned any other way. With God, Jesus Christ, he was stronger than he thought. That's the pattern for us too. Fear is not a stop sign. It's often a signal that growth is right in front of us. The real danger isn't fear itself. The real danger is stepping back from it, avoiding it, letting it shrink who you're becoming. Because when we avoid fear, we lose confidence. But when we face it with faith, we gain strength. Be strong, Joshua 1 verse 9 says, and be of good courage, for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. Notice that promise. Not that fear disappears, but that God, Jesus Christ, walks and goes with you. So the next time fear shows up, don't wait for it to go away. Turn to Jesus Christ. Take one step forward. Do the thing you think you cannot do. As you do so, you'll be able to say just like Eleanor Roosevelt taught, quote, I live through this, I can take the next thing that comes along. End quote. And even more powerfully, you'll be able to say, like Philippians 4 through 13, with Christ, I can do all things. That's how faith grows. That's how courage is built. And that's how we become who Jesus Christ is calling us to be. Thanks for checking out Walking with the Savior podcast.
